/qst/ - Quests

You are a Paladin under the Church of the First Light, a group of deities worshiped for their domains of all that is considered Holy. You served your righteous cause with nothing less than complete devotion, slaying countless evil threats, saving the lives of thousands. By the end of your Career, for your many great deeds, you are granted the noble title of Baron by the country's king, a well as a small keep, with its own plot of land. You consider retiring, but in reality you will soon have another devotion in your life, greater than the First Light. The story starts here.

However, this story isn't about you.

It's about your daughter, whom you received not long after your noble upbringing. And before we get to her, we must decide who you really are.

What is your name?

Ah, yes. Authur Tannyth, how could I forget? Slayer of Dde'dri the dreaded Lich king, defender of the city, Brighton, the most chivalrous Half-Elf the country has ever seen!

Yes, Half-elf.
Ever since the resolution of the Human/Elf war little of a century ago, relationships between the two races have improved drastically. And you are such a case. Your father was a Human, your mother and Elf. But there are many subraces of both, so let's discover your exact heritage. (These options will create the statistics of your daughter, whom will follow your footsteps as a Paladin. We will be going by a very simplified 5e/Pathfinder system. As well as vaguely going by their lore.)

Father
>Barbarian of the Mountains: Large hulking man and woman coming from the snowy mountains. You will start with higher strength and some cold resistance developed from the harsh winters.

>Nomad of the Southern Desert: Tanned humans hailing from the sands. You will start with higher dexterity as well as having mild heat resistance to protect from the harsh sun.

>Tribesman of the Eastern Swamp: Savage people hailing from the dark marshes. These people have endured diseases and worse throughout their existence, and have developed a strong resistance. You get constitution and mild disease resistance to start.

Mother
>High Elf: Tall and pale elves, known for their innate arcane powers. You will start with a higher intelligence and have a cantrip to start with, with the potential to earn more.

>Wild Elf: Coppery elves from the forests, known for their connection to nature and toned bodies. You will start with more wisdom, a connection to nature that will increase over time, as well as slightly faster movement.

>Dark Elf: Ash skinned elves, whom lived underground and have sorcerous magic at their disposal. You will start with higher charisma, as well as gaining a number of spells common of Drow throughout your life. Your eyes will also have slightly better vision in the dark.

To be clear, we will be using the stats of a typical Paladin. Meaning Charisma will be the source of most of our Paladin powers.

Wow, seems to be a tie at the moment. I'll begin tallying after a few minutes

Your Father was a barbarian warchief, who raided nearby settlements for resources, woman, and power.

Your mother, a High Elf, was the first Elf he had seen. Interested in the exotic woman, he spent time with her, different from his slaves.

In a few months, they married and you were born. Tall, thick, toned, yet with a mind far ahead any others in the camp. You quickly became a source of pride to your father.

However, you wished for a different life. At the age of twenty, you left the camp against your father's wishes.

You soon would find a priest, on your travel, whom introduced you to the First Light. The priest also sensed a third blood in you. One of... a divine being.

Many generations ago, a celestial being became a part of your bloodline and its power has remained in your family ever since. Now, there are many types of Celestials in this world, which one is in you?

>Angel: This will make all of your holy powers that much more holier. Smites are meaner, Spells are improved, etc. We will also gain other powers through advancement.

>Azata: Celestial beings of beauty, song, and art. This will give Bard like powers to the family line, allowing some form of bardic inspiration, that can be improved through advancement. It will also make the Tannyth's have natural talents in many forms of art, as well as overall increased physical attraction.

>Peri: Redeemed angels that had once fallen, these fiery beings do whatever it takes to burn away their sins. This will give the Tannyth's a form of flame themed'rage', not unlike a barbarian.

It wasn't long after, you began you life as a Paladin. You were well known across the land for your divine power, destroying anything foul with extreme prejudice.
Forty years later, you retire. A hero, Noble, rich, you had everything you could dream of. Well, except for one thing... a wife.

In search for someone to spend the rest of your life with, you frequently attend noble parties and balls. None of the fair maidens catch your fancy...

Until you see... her.

You strike a conversation with her, and quickly learn she's the daughter of a powerful foreign ruler. You spend time with her, talking on about a number of topics. As the minutes fly past, you can't hep but feel something is off about her... something dark.

It doesn't take long to pinpoint what this woman was. She was a succubus, you were sure of it. That fowl aura of hers, you had no idea why it took you so long to sense it! Rather than plunging your sword straight through her chest in the middle of the hall room, you decided to play her game until you were alone. you were settle like that.

Eventually the party begins to slow and the woman invites you to her nearby manor. It doesn't take a genius to realize what she's offering. You graciously accept.

You wake up with a start, in your own master bedroom, alone.

You search around your keep, but there's no sign of anyone besides your servants. Nothing was stolen, nor no one harmed. You later question a few of your fellow party goers, none of which remember the woman at all, and they insist that you left home alone to your manor. At this point you assume you jut had to much too drink at the party. Or your were seduced by a powerful demon, capable of great mind affecting magic. Nah, you're probably just a drunk.

You find the woman again at a party years later. Almost exactly the same as she was years ago, though this time she carried something against her chest. She notices you as you approach, offering you a warm smile as if you were long time friends. You question her on many things in a rant, but she responds not, instead offering you the same smile.

A high pitch cry from what she's carrying grabs both of your attention, she begins lightly bouncing it. It's a baby, but most certainly not human. It had foul abyssal features covering the frail creature's frame.

"Her name is Asheroth." The woman says abruptly. "Well, her true name technically. It's what binds us, represents us. It means beauty of light."

She looks up from the now calm baby, and gives you that same calm smile. "I didn't bother giving it a mortal name, but I don't think it wise for her to go around telling everyone her true name, so it may be in her best interest to be given a mortal one, as well. I thought it was only fair her mortal father would have the honor of doing so."

You look down at the baby again. It had two gold tipped black horns piercing form its forehead, a tanned skin tone, darker than your own, Jet black hair, a complete contrast to your blonde locks.

You're about to call her own her bullshit, but you catch the baby's eyes as they open. A deep blue that glows ever so slightly in the dark room. And those pointed ears. As quickly as you found differences, you begin finding all your traits in the held child.

Silent, you gaze back at the woman, still smiling. "Do you have one in mind or do you need some time?"

You stare at the woman a few moments longer, still in a mild state of shock. You suddenly blurt out the first thing you think of, Merethyl.

"After your mother? How noble. You know, you should visit her more. She's been lonely since your father passed."

Before you can even ask her how she knew your parents, the baby begins crying again, louder than before.

"You know, it's a common misconception that half-breeds don't have a soul, cursed from the blood of their hellish." She begins rocking the baby again, looking to you and offering you that same warm smile. "No matter what anyone tells her, regardless of my blood, she will always get her best trait from you."

The baby her seemed to clam down again and is not starting at you in interest, apparently just now noticing you.

"Her soul."

You swear for a moment you see a single tear slide fall from her eye, but in an instant the baby is in your hands, the woman nowhere in sight. But you aren't interested in her. You stare into the baby's eyes, seemingly lost in the precious orbs. Your decades of service is telling you that this is some type of trick, that you would fall prey to her down the road. But you knew this child was yours.

It had your mother's eyes.

Well, sorry everyone, but i'll have to close stop us here for today. With the Superbowl soon, I have to pretend to like football so I can still be accepted by my family. I'll resume some time tomorrow.
Also, with the choice we've made, these are the current stats of Asheroth. (The point system is 1-10, with 5 being dead average.)

Strength: 14 (Barbarian+abyssal heritage)
Dexterity: 10
Constitution: 10
Intelligence: 12 (We got them high elf brains, yo!)
Wisdom: 10
Charisma: 14 (Succubus are good at this.)

Anyway, see you guys tomorrow, we'll be raising this little demon.

It wasn't long after that you left the party, quickly heading back to your keep with the child in tow. Staying at the ball with a devilborn didn't seem like a smart choice, gods know what would happen. You arrive at the keep.

You hadn't the slightest clue in how to raise a normal child, let alone one like this. Did it have the normal needs of a mortal? How long would it take to grow? Dozens of similar questions race through your head as you stare at the child, the thoughts making you regret this more and more.

In the end, you decided to hire the services of a midwife. It was the best choice you could think of to retain your sanity. Though the question remained, what kind of woman did you want to help raise your child? Coin certainly wasn't a limiting factor, but finding one willing to raise the abnormal child would likely be... difficult.

I'll leave this one open due to the numerous possibilities that could be chosen. If you guys want me to list a few examples, i'll do so.

During these missions you learned she had always wanted to be a mother, but a hunting gone wrong early in life destroyed that chance. Kind, if a bit stern, perhaps this would be the chance she's been longing for?

You ponder your decision for quite some time, your eyes fixated on your child as you're lost in thought. Your eyes brighten for a moment, but then you immediately let out a groan. Surely there must be a better option, right? Yet, as much as you think further, you simply can't think of a better person.

Leilatha Venren, a half-elf like yourself, but with wild elf lineage. You first me the morally questionable ranger tracking down a rumored necromancer in the local forest. Along the way, you met a woman looking for the said Necromancer as well, not for a noble cause, but for a bounty, a large one at that.

A unique partnership soon grew from that chance meeting, later spawning many more cooperative missions, involving hunting creatures down, regardless of your different motives.

The woman was very skilled, you give her that, but was she the kind of woman you wanted raising your daughter?

You're sitting at your study when you hear a knock on your door. Strange, you don't remember having company today, unless... No, that's not possible.

You make your way to the door and open, immediately seeing that shit eating grin Leilatha always wore when she had dirt on you.

Before you can say a word, she squeezes past you trough the door, looking around the room before her eyes settle on you. "You don't contact me for seven fucking years and you have the balls to ask me to raise your little shit?" She mocks, the usual banter from the woman. But you're not interested in that, you ask her how the hell she got here so quickly, you sent a messenger hawk only twelve hour ago! "Treestride, buddy. There's a reason I planted that oak sapling here a decade ago. Now, where is the cum stain?"

"Huh... That... is not what I expected." The Ranger stares at the baby, with her arms crossed, as if examining it. "I ain't gonna bother askin' how you made her, so i'll go straight to the giant's balls, what's in it for me?"

You simply stare at her for a few moments, you've played this game multiple times throughout your life, now wasn't any different. "What's your pr-" Before you could even finish, "I want to live in the keep for life, and I want 10% of your monthly income." Here price is met with a sigh of your own. "Fine."

(Part one of post.)

Gripping the pole of the axe, you swing it forward, splitting the log in two. Winter was not too far off and you were one that always dealt in preparation, better to have too much than too little.

You set up a second log on the stand and pause for a moment, looking out to lake view. Fifteen years ago there wasn't any dwelling within miles of your keep, now you could see the glimpse of a village on the other side of the lake. How times have changed.

Leilatha puts her hand in front of you, staying silent. Her eyes dart across the lines of trees, eventually snapping toward the west. She gazes behind her and smiles.

"Alright, Horny, this is your chance. I hear an Elk about hundred feat to the south west, some kind of... large rodent, possibly fox, about seventy feet to the north, and lots of small rodents scattered in between. There's more larger game, but they're farther away so you'll have to track them. This is your first hunt you'll lead, so i'll let you pick the prey. If you get something big, i'll see about teaching you the language of the Fey you keep asking about."

You feel nervous, you've hunted, and killed small game with Leilatha before, but this is the first time you've made the decisions! You've had weeks to prepare, but you can't help but feel anxious. You have thoughts on making the sae bet and going for something small, but you think back on what your mother said. You heard her speak a tongue similar to Elven, but she claims that it's much older, outliving even the Elves. Learning something new always fascinated you, perhaps it'd be worth the risk to make mother proud?

What should be the target?

I made the intro like this, because I wanted to make chargen as interactive as possible while also allowing anons develop some backstory for the character.

While I do have a broad frame for the character's personality, i'm sure anons would prefer to fill in the rest, rather then me giving them a pregenerateed character.

Now, i'm clearly getting votes for both sides, so whatever decision I make is going to piss off some anons.

Now, I was planning on having a few more interactive events like this, to finish things off.

>>1137022
Normal daughter stuff, plus training with combat. I'm going to have a summary of her childhood when all this shit is finished. And no, this is about the daughter. She'll be an adult soon and going out and killing shit. Sorry, if that's not what you were hoping for.

Your mother steps to the side, holding her hand outward. "Show me what you got."

You walk at a fast pace to the southwest, your foot steps beginning to slow as you catch sight of the impressive beast. You've seen mother bring home Elk before, they were massive, usually feeding you for a week. But this one... this one was huge. It had to be at least six feet tall and the horns that sprouted from its head put yours to shame.

Focusing on your target, you approach as silent as you can. You're almost within range when your hear a snap come from a twig you stepped on. The Elk's muscles tense, it's head snapping up, frantically looking about the horizon.

Shit, you had little time to dilly ally, it was now or nothing, Crouching down, you pull an arrow from your quiver and notch it on your string. Letting out a breath, you let the arrow loose.

Soon, you and your mother are carrying back the Elk, with some difficulty of course. "Good shit, Horny. I'm a woman of my word, i'll teach you what you want to know."

"But Daddy, it was my favorite!"

You stare teary eyed at your longsword, now with a large crack in its center. Your father has started to teach you the art of a blade and you've grown to it well, you seem attached to the longsword at the moment, but there's so many more weapons out there to train with.

Your father chuckles, leaning forward, lightly taking the blade from you. "While a blade is certainly worthy of attachment, you musn't be filled with sorrow when it shows a scratch. In many ways it can be polished over, as if it never happened. Do you remember the words I've been telling you?"

You pause. Every night, your father would give you a syllable and ask you in the morning what it was. He wouldn't give you a new one until you remembered the rest you had learned prior. "Dali'a thi'm lajiam?" You repeat. He nods.

"Place you hand upon the crack of the blade and close your eyes. Rub your thumb against it's surface, and repeat those words. But say them with certainty, you are not asking, you are telling." You give you father a light nod, your attention returning to the blade. Nervous, you repeat what he said to the best of your ability, a metallic thwang ringing out as you do. You look down at the blade and any sign of damage that you had made had vanished, as if it was brand new.

"Daddy, I did it! I did magic!" The young demoness squeals with nothing less than pure excitement. Your father just smiles at you, reaching down to ruffle your hair. "You did well, beautiful. Now, return to your stance. You're not getting a sweet roll until you can parry the blade form my hand."

This is met with a prolonged groan.

You raise your shield and block the blow of the mace, causing a wave of pain to flush through your arm. "Oh, that hurt!"

"Of course it did deary, you have to lead the blow away with your shield, not take the full blunt of it." You father says in his oh so patient tone. "Now, I want you to try again, and this ti-" Your father stops mid sentence, his head immediately snapping to his right. You follow his gaze and see a woman walking on the cobblestone path, approaching the sparring circle your father had made years ago.

As she got closer, you could tell she was beautiful. Tall, graceful dark hair, strange clothes, you didn't know her in the slightest, but from the look on you father's face, he did.

"Hello Arthur, it's been quite some time. I'm sorry I couldn't come earlier, mother would have had an absolute fit if she found out." The lady turns to you and gives you a bright smile.

"She's grown so much... have you told her the truth?" This woman... she's acting like she knows you... what was going on? You turn to your father. "Who's this Daddy?"

Your father doesn't answer at first, his eyes never leaving the woman. It's not until seconds later he says:

"She's ____"

>Your Mother (Allow your daughter to know the truth and allow the two to interact.)

-your mother."

You turn back to the woman. She was a human, how could she possibly be your mother and where has she been this entire time? You have dozens of questions racing through your head, however the woman just smiles.

"I'm sorry I missed out on your life, little one. Your Father is a noble man, I knew he wouldn't steer you in the wrong path. Now, i'm sure you have plenty of questions..."

A bright flash of light hits you and the woman in front of you has changed. Her skin is now the color of ash, with long black horns emboldened with gold piercing her forehead, not unlike your own. A thick spaded tail, hangs from her lower back, slowly swaying side to side. Large black folded bat wings arch from her back, reminding you of the gargoyle statues on the roof of your home.

You look to your father and he seems to be having the same reaction as you, stunned beyond words.

"Holding that costume becomes such a drain after a few days... Now, I don't have too long until i'm noticed, so shall we step inside and speak?"

hey QM I missed this particular session, but small piece of advice: don't let random low-effort posts give you the impression that you've made a mistake and need to immediately change what you're doing. you'll get tons of those in either direction if your quest is at all popular, so you can't please everyone.

that's not to say to ignore posts expressing opinions all the time, but only give them the weight they deserve. if someone writes a long piece explicating how they feel and why and backs it up, then maybe consider their point, but if someone says 'ey qm what the hell are you doing, doing this thing that I don't like' then tear up the letter and toss it into the fire
>>
>>1139808
A post doesn't need to be long to have more weight. I don't need a ten page essay stating how fucked it is that a Paladin waking up after planning to gut a succubus forgets what he did last night, then later meets the same succubus who claims to have bore his child, and then doesn't make it his life mission to skin the bitch alive and burn her on an alter.
God him/herself would have to come down and say "Its cool to bang the succubus." for me to believe a Paladin worth his salt willingly of his own accord fucked a succubus he just met.

Dear Sir,
I fully understand your problems with the background breaking the immersion for you. I understand that this development can be extremely disturbing to you.

I kindly ask you to think about the concept of quest being a type of collective game, where multiple players, as well as the story teller, create an experience together.

If you do not like the type of entertainment which is being offered in this thread, please do consider other threads that might be more to your liking.

"First of all, i'd like to explain things."

Your mother is sitting cross legged on a comforter, stirring a cup of tea.

"I didn't intend to torment you, Arthur. Our first meeting was supposed to be our last. When I found out that I was pregnant, I didn't quite know what to do. A hybrid would have never been accepted by my mother, so I decided to give her to you, for her sake." She goes quiet for a moment, silently stirring her tea, eventually taking a sip.

"Even now, me being here is risky for me. I can not stay for long, but I certainly can visit more often, that I can promise. However... Arthur, could you allow me to speak to Asheroth alone? I don't have much time left, before I depart."

You watch your father stare at the woman in silence, before his gaze eventually turns to you. Without a word, your father rises from the couch and departs, leaving the two of you alone.

"My have you grown..." Your mother stares at you for a moment, smiling. "I don't expect us to suddenly have a bond , however I would like to get to know you, to make up for my absence. I saw that Arthur was training you the art of swordplay, do you have any hobbies outside of combat?"

It started as simply being able to repair your own clothes, as adventurers like Dad and Mom had to learn, and it developed into learning more tailoring.

you know, I wasn't even talking about that, I was talking about the little hiccup when anons complained about what kind of post the QM wanted to put up. ya know, when someone didn't like the fleshing out of childhood

"Well, my mother taught me how to hunt and I do that quite a bit. There's plenty of game in the forests around here, so I rarely have to look for long. What started as merely mending tattered clothes eventually turned into a love for tailoring. I now make most of my clothing and some of my parents as well." You mother smiles at the mention.

"Oh, tailoring is a wonderful trade to learn! You can find business just about anywhere, i'm sure that will lead to wonderful things." She encourages, giving a slight nod.

"I have also begun playing the game of chess, getting quite skilled at it as well. I've started to beat my father more often than the alternative." As you continue speaking, your mother's smile suddenly turns into a frown, her nostrils flaring with annoyance. "She's started looking for me again, seems like this is where I have to depart. I hope to visit you again, Asheroth. I'd love to learn the rest about you." She gives a you a wink, and with a sudden flash of light she's gone.

Your father walks back in the room not a second later, sighing. "I assume she left? I can't sense her anymore."

You reply with a nod.

Your mother will visit you a few more times before you start training as a paladin. What would you want to be taught? Pick two.
