/qst/ - Quests

In a time of global conflict, the elite international task force Overwatch formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. For a generation, the heroes of Overwatch protected the world, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and finally disbanded. Without them, world conflict and terror rose again. Governments weakened by strife ceded power to mega-corporations and private security forces. Some omnics returned to war with humans, while others remained peaceful but faced fear and violence. Overwatch was goneā€¦but the world still needed heroes.

You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. Recently you encountered the re-formed Overwatch: a grand title for two ex-agents, Winston and Tracer, operating as outlaws out of an abandoned Watchpoint. Despite their down-and-out-status, or perhaps because of it, you were inspired to join them. You left your old life behind to become the first recruit of the new Overwatch.

Now you and Tracer are travelling the globe, defending the people of the world from harm and searching for potential agents to rebuild Overwatch. The world needs heroes. Maybe you can be one of them.

Previously on Overwatch Quest:

You contacted a woman tied to Overwatch's past and to yours: Fareeha Amari. Once the heir apparent of Overwatch, now a captain in Helix Security's global elite forces, she also happens to be an old flame of yours. You put aside your personal feelings to speak to her. She was the commander of the squad that defended the main breach at the Temple of Anubis, and you wanted to let her know the truth behind her comrades' deaths -- that Anubis had broken free by another method, and even now threatened the world. You also felt that if anyone could work "in the system" and help track down this rogue AI, it might be her.

You didn't mention the part about how Overwatch was starting up again, or how you'd somehow found yourself as its de facto commander.

You wonder what she'll say when she finds out that you joined Overwatch before she did.

When you informed the team about the Anubis fragmentation strategy, those fledgling leadership skills were called into play once more, and you gave an almost-heroic, nearly-inspiring speech to the team. For now, your plan is have Athena try to track down these Anubis fragments, while you and the team keep doing what you were doing: recruit more agents and protect the world, one crisis at a time.

Then you and the team took the night for a little R&R. Can't be saving the world every day, after all. You had a few drinks and some good laughs, and you have blurred memories of dancing with Tracer to Michael Jackson.

The next world crisis that you and the team are planning to jet off to as outlaw vigilantes is in Rio de Janeiro. The Vishkar Corporation development agency has reportedly received the go-ahead from the city to raze multiple favela neighborhoods for reconstruction. The outspoken musician Lucio has declared a free concert in a public square tonight as a symbol of the people's resistance. The city government has signaled its intention to back up Vishkar's dispersal efforts with riot police. If you don't do something, this concert could become a war zone.

Athena predicts another Talon attack to arrive at about the same time as the concert, so the team's going to have to be in two places at once. You decided to split everyone into mobile attackers and defensive heavyweights. Joining you in the Aurora will be Tracer, McCree, and the Shimada brothers Genji and Hanzo. What exactly the five of you are going to do when you arrive in Rio is something you haven't decided yet.

You and the team could infiltrate Vishkar's corporate tower in the city, searching for something to use against them: drone control codes, executive blackmail material, anything like that.

You could also try investigating the police station that will deploy riot police alongside Vishkar's corporate soldiers. That might be difficult since everyone on your team -- with the possible exception of Tracer -- is one variety of outlaw or another. But you also have two ninjas coming with you, so that might be another approach.

A different angle you might take is to try and track down some of your old criminal contacts in the Rio underworld. The Darkwire Club is usually crawling with hackers, scoundrels, and sociopaths. If you manage to find the right someone, they might be able to help you.

Or you could just wait until the concert, show up, and try your best to stop it from turning into a riot.

You contact the team and get their approval on your plan. Within a couple of hours, you and the agents you requested have shaken off your hangovers, boarded the Aurora, and shot off into the western sky.

You take some time to think over who you know that's still running in Rio, that you might run in to at the Darkwire. Blue Sally? No, she got busted in a raid by the Skulls, the Rio special forces police. Last you heard she was in a prison under the ocean. Two-Jacks? No, he got his brain burnt out by corporate ice. Hmmm. There has to be someone ...

In the passenger compartment, you can hear McCree doing his best to make casual conversation with the Shimadas. Ninjas have plenty of skills, but small talk doesn't seem to be one of them.

In the cockpit, there's an awkward silence between you and Tracer as she avoids your gaze. She might be still thinking about your less-than-respectable past -- or she might just be embarassed about her display of emotion last night regarding that.

>Bring up that conversation.
>Keep her focused on the mission.

>Talk about something unrelated.
>>
>>1130767
That's not bad. Changing to something like that. Especially if there's an awkward silence as neither of them say anything, so Seeker follows it up by just talking about something else.
On that, we're both in the cockpit, now wouldn't be a bad time to bring up teaching people/us to fly and how reliable autopilot or getting Athena to fly would be.
>>
>>1130750
>Keep her focused on the mission.
>>
>>1130807
This sounds good.
>>
"So I heard--" you start to say.

"I just want--" Tracer says at the exact same time.

You then simultanteously try to apologize. You meet each other's eyes and chuckle, lifting the tension a little.

"You first," she says.

"No, I was just going to tell a dumb joke about awkward silences," you say. "You go ahead."

"I just wanna say, I'm kinda embarassed. I've been thinking about this whole thing where you're ... you know. A criminal. It's not like I haven't worked with the reformed types before. McCree back there is a good example. I just wanted to talk to you about it when I wasn't three sheets to the wind." She sighs. "Guess that didn't work out ..."

"It's no big deal," you say. "Really. I can understand why it's weird. We can talk about it some other time. As long as you can trust me for now."

"That I can do," she says.

"Good to hear," you say, drumming your fingers on the console. You've figured out some of the basic functions of the co-pilot's chair over the past few weeks. "Hey, what do you say about teaching me how to pilot the Aurora? It would useful if more than one person could fly this thing, right? If you were out of commission, or if we had to split up on different teams. Uhh ... not that I want to split up on different teams, I mean I really like working with you, but ... uhh ..." Dammit, Logan. Why do you do this.

Tracer laughs. "I get what you mean. Hmm. Well, you're fast, got a good eye. Given a little time, I could probably make a pilot out of you. Yeah, let's go for it."

"Great," you say. "Looking forward to it." This will be a good chance to expand your skills and help out the team's transport logistics. The fact that you'll get to spend some quality time with Tracer is just a bonus.
>>
>>1130921
By the way, apparently we got our new armor. We should see who's faster.
>>
You glance back at the passenger area. Now that you think about it, everyone on this aircraft right now except for Tracer is some kind of outlaw. McCree used to run with the Deadlock Gang before joining Blackwatch, and the Shimada brothers were heirs to a criminal empire, even if they didn't directly participate. If you were going somewhere else, that might be a problem, but plunging right into the heart of Rio's criminal underworld, it'll probably be an asset.

"Speaking of my past among the world's less respectable," you say, turning back to Tracer. "My plan is for us to head to one of my old hangouts, try to find someone I know. If we're going up against Vishkar, we might need the help. There's a place called the Darkwire Club. Tends to collect rogues, hackers, and psychos."

"Maybe you should stay with the ship," you say to her. "Or go check out the concert square. You're kind of recognizeable."

She looks sidelong at you, displeased.

"Hey, don't blame me," you say. "You're famous, people know about you. I mean, usually that's great. I think you're important to a lot of people. It's just that in this particular case, walking into a den of thieves ..."

"You don't want a copper doggin' your heels," she says. "I gotcha."

"Me and the guys will take care of this. They'll be less conspicuous," you say about the cowboy, the cybernetic ninja, and the kimono-clad archer.

You climb into the back seats with the other guys. "Stop me if you've heard this one," you say. "A cowboy, a ninja, an archer, and a thief all walk into a bar ..."

"And?" prompts Genji. "What happens?"

"I'm not sure yet. That's what we're going to find out. We're going to a place I used to hang out in, the Darkwire Club. A real hive of scum and villainy. The four of us should fit right in."

"And why would we do that?" asks Hanzo, skeptical.

You look at Hanzo. You're not really sure why he agreed to come in the first place. You haven't yet talked to him about whether he's willing to officially join Overwatch as an agent.

Come to think of it, you're still not sure exactly what happened back in Hanamura. Hanzo seems to imply he was at fault for Genji's imprisonment.

Whatever it was, Genji must have said something to Hanzo that convinced him to come on at least one mission.

"I'm going to try to find someone I know," you say. "Someone who can help us. The people you find there specialize in doing jobs that defy the corporations, stealing things right out from under their noses. I'm sure at least one of my old friends will be around and willing to help us, for a reasonable compensation."

"Guess we could use all the help we can get," says McCree.

Soundtrack: Daft Punk - End of Line
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHGvaQMClEo

Darkwire, and the people in it, look pretty much like how you remember. There's a different set of fashion statements in augments, colors, and hairstyles, but the basics stay the same. Colored lights pulse in time to the bass-heavy thumping of synthesized music, a trio of barely-dressed dancers on stage gyrating more or less to the beat. The glowing-hair crowd dominates the dance floor, while a motley collection of savages and scoundrels collect in knots by the bars, at tables, or in corners.

The wireheads slump in chairs in the center of the room, their brains plugged into machines that look like square-shaped lanterns glowing with pink light. This is where the club gets its name, a certain habit which is only indulged in places like these.

Early on in humanity's dabbling in cybernetic brain implants, pleasure-seekers found ways of plugging directly into the brain's reward centers. They soon found out how dangerous a thing could be, even for seasoned hedonists such as themselves. Installing a "wire" -- an implant that directly stimulates pleasure in the brain -- is illegal just about everywhere, but there some who go through with it anyway. And there are places, like this, that cater to them.

The club serves more mundane tastes as well. Your three teammates take a table while you head to the bar and order some drinks for everyone. You're not actually sure yet if Genji can eat or drink, but you get him a drink anyway, for decorum if nothing else. The Omnic bartender pours you four glasses of glowing blue liquid.

"All right, fellas," you say, returning and passing out the drinks. "Guy's night out tonight. I'm going to try to find some of my old friends. You guys watch my back, and maybe see if you run into anyone useful. For now, enjoy your first drink on me."

"Seeker," you say, figuring Silver will make the connection sooner or later. Your status as an Overwatch agent isn't known to the world yet, but when it is, she'll recognize it's you whatever name you're using.

"What are you up to these days?" she asks. "Anything you can talk about?"

"A little of this, a little of that. Staying busy out there. How about you?"

"Operating, mostly," she says. "I've got a lot of contacts built up, and acting as a go-between involves a lot less bullet-dodging."

"Why don't you buy me a drink and we can talk about it?" you suggest.

Silver eyes you askance, then relaxes and grins. "I forgot what a rascal you are around older women. Fine. I've got a table in the back."

You join her at her table with another drink, this one glowing purple.

"It just so happens," you say. "That I'm in need of someone who provides such a service."

"You always did have irons in the fire," she says, lighting another cigarette. "So that doesn't surprise me. What can I help you with?"

"I need information," you say. "Everyone knows about Lucio's rally tonight. We both know what's going to happen. Vishkar wants to bring down the hammer on anyone standing in their way, and the police will back them up. The Skulls might even get called out. Vishkar think they've got this all figured out, and once their thugs stomp on enough poor people and break enough bones, the poor will just go home and wait to be evicted. I'm not going to let that happen."

"Hmmmm," says Silver. "I can hear the venom in your voice. Yeah, I remember you really hate the corps. For most of us it's just a job, but for you it's personal, isn't it? You've really got a grudge against them."

"Never mind that," you say, although it's true. "I need to know about ...

"... Lucio," you say. "Where can I find him? What is he planning? Is this really just one big protest, or does he have something else in mind?"

Silver looks at you a moment, smoke curling lazily from her cigarette. "You understand I'm not usually in the practice of giving out valuable information for free," she says. "I'll tell you this much as a favor to a friend. Anything more is going to cost you."

"Understood," you say. "Go on. You know where he is?"

"I don't know the exact details," she says. "But it does seem like there's something more behind this concert. A bigger plan. Lucio was seen in the neighborhood recently. Right here in this club, according to rumor. He was asking a person in my line of work some very interesting questions about Vishkar Corp, and some kind of secret project they've got going on in the R1 Tower."

"What kind of secret project?" you ask.

She smiles and makes a "zip my lips" gesture. "Different subject."

"Okay, so ... where is he now?"

"Right now?" Silver consults a readout. "He obtained a full readout of the security in the building, and a timing of guard shifts, so ... I suspect he should be entering R1 any minute now."

"You mean ... you think he's breaking into the place? Alone? Maybe right now, as we speak?"

She smiles.

"Oh man," you sigh, sinking back into your seat. "This had to get more complicated."

"Don't underestimate the boy, Seeker," she says. "Or at least not his courage. He has some kind of plan. Whether he has the skill to follow through on it remains to be seen."

Damn. If what she's saying is true, you might need to act on it as soon as possible. For now, you stay focused on the current moment. The rest of that information might come in handy, and it still might be good to get some gear or hire someone to help you out with all this.

You check the Overwatch account real quick. Not much there, just a trickle of funding from grateful citizens in Kurjikstan and Japan. There's about enough in there to pay for one thing. You might be able to get more if Silver agreed to let you pay later, but that would probably require some persuasion on your part.

"Thanks for the information," you say. "I'm pretty short on shekels these days, so I'll have to accept your favor and leave it at that for now." Probably for the best. That info would have come in handy, but that's money you could be spending on staff or upgrades for the Watchpoint.

"Suit yourself," says Silver. "Come talk to me again when you're a little richer. Or feel free to pay me a social visit. As I recall, you're pretty cute under that mask. You can refresh my memory sometime," she says with a seductive smile. She pats the seat beside her. "I don't suppose I could tempt you to stick around for a few more drinks?"

For a moment, you genuinely consider letting Lucio, Vishkar, and the favela all go to hell. Then you sigh. "Sorry, Silver," you say, standing up. "Maybe some other time. Gotta put business first today."

You rejoin McCree at your table. "Where are the ninja brothers?" you ask him.

He shrugs. "They went off ta make their own inquiries. Thought I'd stay here and keep an eye on you with that silver-haired lady over there, make sure she didn't start nothin'."

"Thanks, but she's an old friend, I doubt she'd try anything like that. She gave me some information for free, in fact. I asked her about Lucio, and she thinks the guy has some crazy plan to sneak into the Vishkar tower. Something about a secret research project inside. Why he would do that just before his concert tonight? I have no idea. He must be planning something."

"But what in tarnation could he be thinkin'?" says McCree. "He must be after somethin' specific, right? You don't just up and decide, hey, why don't I break into a big ol' corporate tower and just mosey around, see what I can dig up."

"Yeah, he must have something in mind," you say. "But I don't know what. Weapons aren't really Vishkar's thing, at least not the kind you could use on a whole crowd of guards and soldiers. They're more into construction and electronics, that hard-light ivory tower wizard stuff they do."

"Whatever it is, it ain't important right now," says McCree. "We got to decide what to do about this."

Vishkar R1 is a massive pinnacle of steel, glass, and hard-light construction. It towers over its neighboring skyscrapers by the same magnitude that they eclipse the ordinary buildings below them. Mega-corporations don't go for subtlety these days. They have all kinds of ways to show everyone who's really in charge, and making the rest of the city live in their literal shadow is one of them.

You and the strike team -- Tracer, McCree, Genji, and Hanzo -- have gathered in the shadows of a remote back lot, looking up at the corporate monolith.

"So," says Tracer. "Lucio's somewhere in there, is he? I say we zip right in there and help 'im out with whatever it is he's doing."

"I advise caution," counsels Hanzo. "As I was recently reminded much to my chagrin, blundering into enemy territory without a plan can place one in grave danger. Yourself, or those with you," he adds, glancing at Genji. "What is the English saying? "Look before you leap.""

"But if we wait, it might be too late fer him," argues McCree. "We can't just sit around twiddlin' our thumbs while Lucio's in danger in there."

"Even if we follow him," says Genji. "There's the small matter of getting inside. We don't know what route Lucio took to get in. We must find the path for ourselves."

I'm willing to bet with all the activities they have enough security measures (guards, electronic surveilance, etc) that we'd notice an intrusion. That or wait out here. Maybe have everyone except McCree in the Auoura, so we can spot flashes and such in the building and ninja in (not McCree's strong suit), or we can spot him coming out either from the air or someone having a perceptive eye on the ground (McCree's strong suit). Of Course ask our experienced team mates what they think of our ideas.

"Let's wait and see," you say. "If we just go right in, I don't know if we'll actually help the situation. Maybe Lucio can pull this off without us. If he needs help, we can jump in then."

Tracer looks annoyed. "So you want to wait until the alarms go off, then break in?"

"It's not a perfect plan, I admit," you say, sweating a little. "But if we just go straight in, we might tip them off that something's up, and make things worse for Lucio. Let's just wait." Right now you wish you'd bought that information on the Vishkar HQ from Silver so you knew a sneaky way inside.

The team sits down to wait while you monitor the Vishkar feeds. McCree lights a cigar. Genji and Hanzo meditate. Tracer paces up and down restlessly.

A few minutes later your screen starts to fill with amber alerts. "Okay, something's happening," you say to the team, standing up. "Get ready to--" Before you can finish your sentence, the amber alerts change to red. "Uh oh."

You look up at the building to see the security protocols engaging. An alarm sounds. Hard light construct turrets start to phase into existence on the outer corners of the building. A huge set of blast doors begins to close over the front entrance.

"What now, genius?" Tracer says to you, her voice twisting with sarcasm.

"Hey, give him a break," says McCree. "It's not like Jack never made a bad call in his life."

"At least he knew when things had to get done," says Tracer, folding her arms.

"I ... I can still fix this," you say. "I have a plan. Everybody into the Aurora."

A few minutes later, the ship is approaching the rooftop of Vishkar R1.

"Let me do the talking on this one," you say.

The radio crackles to life. "Unidentified aircraft, this is Vishkar R1 Tower Control," says a male voice, tense with hostility. "State your identity and purpose."

You turn on your voice transmitter. Time for a gamble. "Tower, this is Lucheng Tiger-9 incoming," you say. You check your encryption codex for the latest hexadecimal code generated. "Code 9C8A9-T. We're here to help you clean up the mess."

There's a short delay. Tracer looks at you with a puzzled expression. You wink at her.

The radio comes back to life. "Tiger-9, We've got it taken care of," says the voice. "One intruder only."

"Come on, Tower," you say. "You really think this guy would attack alone? Use your head."

"Tiger-9, you know something we don't?"

"Orders from the big boss," you say. "You know the one I mean. She won't be happy if you keep yanking my chain like this, Tower."

Another delay. Tracer's face is growing more incredulous by the moment. You're kind of enjoying this, now.

"Tiger-9, proceed to landing pad 2," says the voice.

"Roger, Tower," you say. "Proceeding."

You switch off the radio and, not without some satisfaction, look at Tracer. "Not bad, right?" you ask, putting your hands behind your head.

She shakes her head and starts to guide the Aurora towards the second landing pad. "You're just full of surprises," she says.

When Jack was in charge, we all knew where we stood. We knew who had responsbility for what. Now things are weird." She unbuckles her safety belt and starts putting the Aurora into a rest mode where it can still get ready to take off shortly. "Now nobody's in charge. "Just ... stay focused on the mission for now," you say, trying to come up with the next stage of your plan. You wave your hand, thinking of a scene from an old movie. "You don't need to see my identification."

"Excuse me?" asks the squad leader. "I just said I need to--"

That didn't work quite like in the movie, but you brush past the man anyway with the superior air of authority that comes naturally to corporate goons with a scrap of authority. "We need to talk to that guy you have in custody. The boss wants info from him, and she wants it now."

The guard protests. "That doesn't mean I can just--"

"There's no time for this!" you shout at him. "This building is about to come under attack by that man's hired guns. We have to extract the information from him and secure the research facilities. You need to let us in immediately!"

"A-all right," says the squad leader. "You can come in, but my squad will accompany you."

"That won't be necessary, guardsman," you say. "My squad can handle this."

"I'm afraid I must insist," he replies. "You obviously aren't familiar with our security protocols."

The squad of guards eyes you warily as the leader turns back to the door he came from. He swipes his keycard to re-open it. "Follow me, sir."

For significant challenges, the first three rolls are the results of three smaller sub-events within the larger event.

McCree's shooting contest is a good example. You had to shoot three targets, and got 6, 1, 8 for that. So your first and third target went down nicely, but you messed up on the second one.
>>
We should ask Winston to design a stun gun for us desu.

>Tell him to bring you to the research facility and this "secret project".
It's obvious what he's after, we need to secure the project!

>>
Something tells me the secret tech is the sound weapon and skates Lucio uses in game.
Assuming he doesn't have it already
>>
We should start hitting targets of opportunity like corporate servers as well, since they may have leads on other crises, on anoobis or just stuff to sell.

on semi related note, this op may end up harming our PR if the corp spins the subsequent raid as response to this shadowrun and theft of valuable hardware.
>>
>>1136308
not if we help lucio with the concert
>>
Theoretically, couldn't we tell them to get someone to get Lucio, maybe sending a couple of our guys with them, and then take us to the research facility, since that's the target. Bring Lucio there, ostensibly so we can interrogate him and secure the facility at the same time, then gogogo from there?

Probably a hell of a stretch, though, if not downright ridiculous.

As the Vishkar security guards start down the staircase into the building, you look back at your teammates. They're shocked that you're getting away with this so far. You shrug at them and grin. It's surprising how far you can get with a good bluff sometimes.

"Bring us to the prisoner," you say as you and the team follow the Vishkar guards down the staircase. "We have ways of persuading him. Stuff that guys like you should keep your hands clean of."

"Understood," says the squad leader.

Your two groups move through the Vishkar hallways, a spartan blend of clean white and azure blue. A lot of it is made of hard light. Some of the lights are walls, and some of the walls are lights. It's hard to tell the difference in here.

The guards are cautious of you, their hands close to their weapons. You're not sure how many of them actually believe your story about being Lucheng enforcers. Either that, or you're just an intimidating-looking bunch.

One of the guards peers at Tracer. "Haven't I seen you someplace before?"

"Err ... I used to do shows on the telly. World Gladiator, Dash 'n' Cash, Sunday Night Combat, you know. You probably sawr me on the vids."

"Yeah, that was probably it," he says.

Good thing the corporations keep their employees -- subjects, really -- so isolated from the world outside their towers. A celebrity like Tracer can pass herself off as a mercenary with only moderate suspicion.

"It's just through here, sir," says the guard leader. "Protocol has only two employees in the room, so you'll have to leave your men here. I'll accompany you inside, sir."

>That's fine. Let's go now.

"Uhhh ... yeah, of course," says McCree. "I just love torturin' folk."

You turn to the rest of the team. "You guys stay alert. You know what to do if anything suspicious happens."

"Understood," says Genji.

The guard leader unlocks the security door for you. You and McCree step into a blank white room with a single occupant.

You and McCree step into a blank white room, spartan and sterile, empty except for a stainless steel interrogation table, two chairs, and the room's single occupant. The door slides shut behind you. For a moment, you wonder if this is actually a trap, and some elite Vishkar operative is going to reveal themselves. But nothing happens.

The person in the room is a short, lithe man with impressive dreadlocks. He's also got a swollen eye and a fresh set of bruises from where the Vishkar security set to work on him. You recognize him from the online vids. LĆŗcio Correia dos Santos, DJ, activist, and apparently part-time thief.

Lucio watches with a guarded expression as you and McCree step forward. "Gotta say you two don't look much like Vishkar," he says. "What's your deal?"

Wary of any recording devices that might be listening in, you take a seat opposite Lucio. "Lucheng security," you say, staying in character for now. "Not sure you realize just what kind of trouble you're in, mister. Stealing from a company like Vishkar is a very serious offense."

Lucio struggles against what you now see are nearly-invisible hard light restraints. "What do you call destroying people's homes, huh? Is that not a crime, making thousands of people homeless just to line your pockets?"

You try to think of some kind of subtle code you could send Lucio without alerting anyone in security. Morse code? No, that's probably too obscure. Maybe you could flash something on your helmet? You installed a basic screen on the front so you could project emoticons and simple words, just for laughs. You never used it for much other than trying to impress girls in clubs, though. You're not sure if "100% ok_hand eggplant" is appropriate here.

Before you have a chance to figure out how to do this, a crash comes from outside. Voices start shouting. Glass shatters. You hear energy weapons firing, returned by the distinct rapid-fire patter of Tracer's pistols.

"Okay, never mind," you say, abandoning the plan of staying in character. You vault over to the other side of the table, draw your sword, and cut through the light restraints. "Lucio, follow us. We're busting you out of here."

"Uhh ... don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining," he says, pulling the broken restrains off as he follows you to the door. "But now I gotta know even more, who are you?"

"There's no time to explain," you say. "I am you from the future!"

Lucio looks at you, confused.

"Sorry," you say. "I always wanted to say that. We're with Overwatch. Just stay low and follow us, and we'll get you out of here."

(Continued)
>>
You and McCree emerge from the interrogation room, weapons at the ready, Lucio following while staying low. You find your three teammates pinned down under a barrage of energy weapon fire from a dozen Vishkar guards.

Tracer sees you coming out of the room. "Guards had some friends show up," she calls out to you. "I tried givin' 'em the run-around, but they weren't quite as trusting as the first group."

Hanzo has already taken a hit, a painful-looking energy burn along his torso. He's sitting on the ground, ripping off a piece of his kimono to bind the wound, while Genji stands between him and the Vishkar security, deflecting the oncoming energy bolts with lightning-fast swings of his short sword.

That's a handy trick, you think, taking cover yourself. You wonder if he can teach you how to deflect projectiles like that, or if you have to be a cyborg. Your mag shield will probably have to do unless you get some fancy brain implants--

You duck as a burst of energy bolts comes in your direction, searing blackened holes in the wall right above you. Okay. Stay focused.

OBJECTION

You vault out of cover and trigger your boots, and Winston's Tesla core slingshots you forward into the air. The hexagon-tesselated shield crackles to life in front of you, sparking with electric discharges as the projectiles from the guard's energy blasters impact and burn out, barely a foot away from you. You laugh in exhilaration and fear. The force shield slams into two of the guards, knocking them out of your way like bowling pins.

You skid to a stop on the far side of the ranks of guards. Their sergeant shouts orders. One squad turns towards you and start firing, the others keep your team pinned down. It's great that you got their attention and all, but now you have to deal with the aggro you've drawn.

Choose 2. You can take the same one multiple times.

>Select an enemy (Guard Squad 1, Guard Squad 2, Guard Sergeant). You kill, disable, or disarm them.

OK, the vote has take out the sergeant and protect Lucio. If you get a 10, you'll also get the third-most voted option, take down the first squad of guards.

Staying under cover, you roll to one side and get your weapon ready in gun mode. When you judge the moment is right, you pop up in an unexpected location and vault over the barrier, firing a barrage of energy from your gun at the guard sergeant. Your shots fizzle in midair against a red-tinged force barrier, the sergeant's personal shield, but the last few shots from your gun overload it. You charge forward, spinning your weapon into sword form. The sergeant turns to face you, raising his blaster, shouting orders to his squad, but it's too late for him. With three quick slashes you cut him down. He drops to the ground, groaning but alive. You just disabled him, dealing out some painful but non-lethal wounds. Killing corporate dogs isn't something you take any pleasure in.

The guards start to panic. "He got the Sarge!" "Never mind that, the prisoner's escaping!" "Shoot him down!" They direct their fire at the unarmed Lucio, who desperately scrambles for cover. You try to insert yourself in the line of fire and block with your magnetic shield, but two of the guards turn towards you and start blasting, and you're forced to protect yourself instead.

"Look out, kid!" shouts McCree, pushing Lucio out of the way. One of the shots intended for Lucio instead blasts McCree's prosthetic hand. "Aaargh, gad dammit," he growls, dropping down behind cover. His broken hand fizzes and sparks.

You dash forward into enemy lines, followed by a blue flash as Tracer blinks in behind you. Together the two of you carve the guards' formation into pieces, isolating them and forcing them into cover. Unfortunately, just as you get a moment to catch your break, a nearby door slides open, and another squad of guards hustles inside and takes of firing positions.

"Everybody move!" you say, taking the team in the other direction, firing shots back at the guards. "Let's do what we're here to do and get out!"

(Continued)
>>
You blast the lock on a security door and yank it open. Tracer and the Shimadas enter behind you, followed by McCree and Lucio. You and Genji grab the door and force it closed, then drag some heavy furniture over to block the path.

"All right," you say. "We've got Lucio. Time to get the hell out of here,"

"Wait, hold on," says Lucio. "I can't leave yet! Not without what I came here for."

"Whatever it is," says McCree through gritted teeth. "It ain't worth yer life."

"No, you don't understand," protests Lucio. "Without this, that concert I set up won't be a protest. It'll be a massacre. Vishkar is gonna bring down the hammer, do you feel me? But I can change it!"

"How do you plan on doing that?" you ask him.

"Vishkar's little research project," he says. "They don't even realize it, but they made the weapon that's going to stop them. With that bad boy, I can turn the protest into a victory for our side. Maybe even push Vishkar out of the neighborhood completely." He tries to figure out how to convince you. "Look, I appreciate you folks showing up out of nowhere to help me like big damn heroes. But this is bigger than just me. This is about the people of Brazil, about their freedom, living the way they choose. I can't just run away and let them suffer."

Tracer bites her lip. "He's got a point. We gotta keep the big picture in mind. Things ain't looking good for those poor folks unless we can do something."

"Okay," you say to Lucio. "We're with you. Let's get this secret project of yours, then get the hell out of here. You know the way there?"

"Yeah, it's just a couple floors down from here," he says. "Follow me."

Lucio leads you down a stairway made of light and through a series of white hallways. You pass by offices and holographic displays. A few times your group has to duck into the shadows to avoid squads of guards dashing part. Fortunately they make plenty of noise, while your teammates, all experienced in stealth and commando tactics, are fast and crafty enough to stay hidden.

Something catches your eye as you pass it. A certain type of safe the executives often use as a convenient stash. "Just a moment, fellas," you say to the team, sidling over to the safe. You've busted open at least a dozen of these on your corporate treasure-hunting jobs. Reliable sources of easy money. You type "password" into the code matrix, just to see if it works. Not this time. You shrug, jack in to the safe, and run your de-scrambler function. Fortunately the safe's firewall isn't too strong, and it only takes you a few moments before the door opens with a satisfying click-hiss. You snatch the credit chips and data cards inside and stuff them into one of your many pockets as you hustle back to rejoin the group.

"Nice work," says McCree. "Couple extra bucks never hurt anyone."

Hanzo grunts, not impressed. His improvised bandage is looking bloody. "We have bigger concerns than petty thievery."

"It's funding for Overwatch," you say. "Every little bit helps."

Lucio takes you down a wide hallway with two rows of pillars on either side and Eastern art on the walls. He arrives at a large set of secure doors. "It's in here," he says, going to the keypad and punching in a code. "Past this checkpoint, there shouldn't be any more guards."

The doors slide open to reveal a pair of drones, each larger than a man. Spherical force shields snap-hum to life around them, and their guns warm up, preparing to fire.

"Well, shoot," says Lucio.

The group dives out of the way to either side as the drones open up with burst-fire energy blasters, filling the doorway with plasma. The drones speak to each other in loud, dissonant bursts of machine language. They stomp forward out of the research facility and into the hallway with you, one firing to each side. You and the team take cover behind the pillars, the drone blasters burning chunks of the stone away with each burst.

There's no way your shield dash can knock these things over, and it might not provide enough force to block those intense autofire guns. You'll need to do this some other way.

Your injured comrades are doing their best. Hanzo draws and fires his bow, despite the obvious pain it causes his wound, while McCree is doing his best to reload and fire his revolver with one hand. But with those two operating at reduced efficiency, Tracer's pistols and Genji's shurikens don't have the firepower to break down those shields. It's up to you to be the heavy hitter on this one.

You swallow your fear, spin your weapon into sword form, and break out of cover. You dash in a curve that bends around towards the shield drones. Their weapons track just behind you, blasting pieces out of the floor at your heels. Tracer blinks in dangerously close to one to distract it, leaving you to deal with the closer one. A shot from its blaster nails you and you stumble, but you turn the motion into a roll and dodge the rest of the burst. You roll back up to your feet and in a blur of motion, hack the shield apart. An arrow from Hanzo, bullets from McCree, and shurikens from Genji all follow up, slicing the drone to ribbons.

You got the first shield drone, but you're right out in the open and in the firing line of the second drone. Its blasters open up like thunderbolts. You trigger your EM shield, desperately trying to defend yourself, but it's not strong enough to repel firepower of that magnitude. Your shield is ripped to pieces. A blaster bolt slams into you with a searing jolt of pain, then another--

"Seeker!" Tracer shoves you from the side, knocking you to the ground.

Dazed, you look up just into time to see the drone's fire slam into Tracer, tearing her to pieces. You hear her voice cry out in agony. "No!" you shout, reaching out to her--

She disappears in a blue blur, with a whirring sound. A few seconds later she reappears nearby, uninjured. "Phew!" she gasps. "Just in time!"

Of course, the drone is still fine. It blares harshly at Tracer in its machine language, like it's trying to taunt her. It levels its guns at her ...
>>
>>1139734
Damn it, Tracer. You and your damn rewind. Going to scare the shit out of people like that.
>>
"The dragon becomes me! " Genji leaps in, drawing his katana for the first time. A blur of green energy spins around it, some kind of shape you can't make out. The ninja slashes once, cuts through the drone's shield. He dashes in a swift motion past the droid to the other side, strikes again as he turns around. The shield splits apart. The drone gets a tracking lock on Genji and fires, but the katana flashes into motion and Genji deflects the barrage straight back into the drone at point-blank range. The drone is shredded by its own energy guns.

Genji sheathes his katana. Green smoke rises from his hands. He bows to the shattered drones.

Dammit. He's got a better sword than you. That might piss you off more if you weren't bleeding all over the floor here.

Tracer leans down helps you into a sitting position, her eyes wide with concern. "You all right, luv?"

From the burning pain in your chest and stomach, you're not so sure. You press down on the hole in your stomach armor, trying to staunch the bleeding, getting your hands wet with your own blood. "Not really," you grunt. "But wait, what about you? I saw you get blown apart, but you just ... rewound yourself?"

"Just a handy trick I can do with my chronal accelerator," she says. "I'm fine, but you're bleedin' here, we've got to do something about this ..."

"I think I can help with that," says Lucio. "Bring him in here."

Tracer helps you get to your feet, and you stagger into Vishkar's secret research facility.

You say, "Tracer ..."

"Don't try to talk," Tracer says. She gets her shoulder under your armpit, drapes your arm over her shoulders, and helps you continue on into the laboratory.

You see some strange things in here. Half-assembled spherical drones, a blend of porcelain white and machine guts. A blue laser reflecting between a series of angled mirrors. A blue shape that keeps changing: pyramid, cube, sphere, and back again.

Scientists have some weird ideas, all right. You'll stick to engineering. That is, assuming you survive this to do anything else. From the amount of blood you're leaving on the floor, you're not sure about that.

"Woo!" shouts Lucio, pumping his fists in the air. "This is it! We're here!" He's stopped in front of a glass cylinder. Inside the cylinder is ...

"Pants?" you say. "Are you kidding me? We came all this way for a pair of pants?"

"They're a lot more than just pants," says Lucio. "There's a fancy name I can't remember. Sonic stimulant mobility harness? Something like that." He walks up to the glass cylinder, taps on it. He turns around and looks at Genji. "I have something for this, but doing it your way might make less of a mess."

Genji steps forward, takes out his short sword, and with a few swift strokes, cuts a hole in the glass large enough for Lucio to walk through.

"Thanks! Okay," he says, stepping inside and kneeling beside the pants. The sonic device. Whatever you're going to call it. "According to the info I got, this thing has healing properties. Once I get it working, I can heal your friend's injuries there." He plugs his datapad in to the device. "Just give me a minute here, I've gotta tell this thing that I'm the new boss."

McCree says, "Gotcha. We'll keep you covered." He looks over at you. "Just hang on there, pardner. All kinds of crazy medical tech around these days. Whatever this thing is, I'm sure it'll get ya fixed up right as rain."

"Thanks," you manage to say. "Let's hope he can do it before--"

The doors slide closed.

"Excuse me," says Hanzo. "Did any of us close that?"

"Weren't me," says McCree. "So ..."

Everyone turns to look at the doors.

Tracer and Genji are really the only ones that can do anything here--and if Satya's been smart about this, there's prolly a dozen or so sentry beam turrets in place around the room to lock us down while she cleans house.

So unless Lucio can get his gear up and pop his Ult with no preptime at all or RNGsus smiles on a Hail Mary, we're out and royally fucked.

Also remember no gameplay limitations. She can make anything out of hard light and probably in huge quantities too. Also I bet there are shield generators and teleporters spawning reinforcements. The only good thing about this is that symmetra prefers NOT to murder.
>>
>>1140006
Since the teleporter/ shield generator is her ult I think we can reasonably expect her to be limited to just one like in the game.
>>
>>1139950
We could try distracting to give an opening to one of the others who could actually do something.

Not necessarily stripping, but a bleeding man dancing a la "Star-Lord" could throw her off enough for say... Tracer to do something.
Or even shield sprinting out of a dance move. We need to buy time regardless.
>>
>>1140082
In times like these, there's only one thing we can do
Cue the music and do the carlton
Or it would be if we weren't bleeding heavily
We could try bringing up metaphysical philosophy and debate the nature of reality with her, maybe we'll give her an aneurysm
>>
If McCree has a flashbang ready we should be fine. That thing is hell on any single opponent. Remember, even with the shield generator her health isn't that great and she's up against 5 people with high damage output.

I still kinda wish Roadhog were here, though. He'd completely trivialize her. Chain, shotgun, done.

The teleporter she can spawn is built from the equipment she has in the field. We're literally standing in the middle of a Vishkar R&D lab. Symmetra is a Vishkar Architech.

Symmetra Currently Has:
> + Familiarity with Environment
> + Greater Resources to work with
> + Superior Intelligence and knowledge of Vishkar Tech
> +/- Autism

We Currently Have:
> + Numbers
> + Varied Equipment and Abilities
> + A Healer
> + Superior Combat Skill

Symmetra is pretty much a hard counter for Tracer and but Genji might be able to hit her pretty hard if he gets in close. Once Lucio heals Hanzo, he'll be able to put her on the ropes with his arrows. Seeker has some of the same weaknesses as Tracer but he may be able to mitigate Symmetra's advantages with liberal use of his shield and grav boots. McCree is hobbled in this fight since I doubt Lucio can fix his arm. Best place for him would be to get into cover and take potshots. Lucio should also capitalize on his agility to avoid getting hit and to get to everyone to heal them.

But this is really only if our objective is to defeat Symmetra. What we really need to do is escape.
>>
>>1140831

Lastly there are the two brothers over there. Both Japanese and also technically criminals, one a cybernetic-enhanced swordsman and the other a traditional archer with a modern twist. They seemingly have abilities that aren't inherent to their gear mind you..."
