You and Goku arrive shortly after you heard from Piccolo there was an attack going on down there. And... Gods, was there ever. Buildings damaged and ruined, a pair of craters taking out city blocks, and even from high up, you can see bodies.

“Looks awful.” Goku comments, starting to descend with you. “But I can’t sense whoever did this. Think they’ve already run away?”

“Well, there is one option...” You check your Scouter. Power Levels... seem to average out below 10, a few anomalies, but nothing that you’d think would cause this kind of damage. “...and looks like they’re either hiding, or they’re gone.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.” you hear Piccolo’s voice call out, you and Goku turning to look towards him, noticing . “This feels wrong. I couldn’t sense them either, but it doesn’t seem like they’d just leave a job half-finished if they were trying to destroy this city.”

“What do you think this is then?” Goku questions.

Piccolo looks down grimly. “...A trap.”

“Hmnh. Fine, I’ll help.” he grumbles reluctantly, taking the Scouter. “Better than letting them get the jump on me.”

“What were you doing down here anyway, Piccolo?” Goku questions.

“I was meditating at a waterfall nearby.”

Goku looks to you and the two of you can’t help but chuckle slightly at that. “Meditating, right.”

“Anyway, if this is a trap, they might be trying to lure people away from certain places... like Capsule Corp.” Uh-oh.

“Or the Lookout.” Piccolo notes, a slight chill going down your spine.

“Ah, or Korin’s, Konpei’s, Kame House... gah, well, might not get backup for this. I’m contacting everyone I can and letting them know what’s up.” A number of telepathic conversations later, you’ve got your friends on alert. And with that... well, you breathe out “Samma Ditthi.” and try to sense the intentions of whoever is around. And all you’re getting is... this vague sense of someone seeking something. Seeking... Energy? Even focusing your Foresight, you can’t quite Scry out any exact locations... but you do get a lead.

Your husband crosses his arms. “Any place you think we should start looking, Maple?”

“I’ve gotten three vague directions. One to the north of the city, one to the east, and one to the west. There’s someone there at each point. Best I can tell, at least...”

“I’m going west, where are you guys headed?” you question.

Piccolo looks ahead. “I’ll take the last one. You two stay on your toes.”

You fly off in the direction of where you sensed... something. You’re not quite sure who it is, or what they’re planning, but you’ll need to stop this. Touching down, you end up in an area with less rubble... but more bodies. Some with fairly horrific injuries; one looks like a man whose head was torn clear off, another who looks like they were jabbed right through the heart. But the strangest ones are the people who show no clear injuries, but each one has a terrified look across their faces.

...Gods, this isn’t right. Out of the corner of your eye you spot what looks like a young girl in the fetal position hiding in the corner of a building, silent, pale from shock. Fairly weak, too, only barely sensing some Ki from her.

You start up the Spirit Bits, making a barrier around yourself just in case something tries to attack you, and then float towards the girl, calling out to her, “Hey, you need to get out of here! It’s dangerous. Are you able to move? I can help you if you need it...”

No response. You close in, still sensing her very weak Ki. Much lower than a normal human’s, she might be in shock. You look behind you and give another call of “Samma Ditthi.” And... you don’t quiet expect the first thing you get from it. Something about... a gangster? Mafia? Whatever it is it isn’t happy. But the second thing is exactly what you were expecting, and much closer than you were expecting it.

‘Energy.’

Energy... what energy?

‘ENERGY.’

“Kid, we need to get out of here now!” you call to the girl... then hear clucking noises as a chicken seems to run away from her, crossing the road in a panic.

And the chicken was the Ki you were sensing.

You barely react in time, thanks to your Foresight and having the Spirit Bits barrier up already, but you quickly learn why that something was demanding energy.

The girl lunges at you, grabbing your barrier and somehow draining it, and only giving you a moment to react before she attacks you. You take your stance. “You... who are you?”

“Maple Mahogany.” the girl calls to you in a monotone, emotionless voice, staring at you with cold, almost dead eyes.

You clench your fists. “First off, it’s So-”

“Target located.” The girl starts walking towards you slowly, Scouter starting to give you a reading... that keeps climbing. As you look over her... you notice that damnable [R><R] symbol on her rather strange outfit. “Surrender your energy.”

And... she doesn’t even dodge it. She just lets the attack hit her as she picks up speed. And Scouter is telling you that dropped her strength, but it somehow ends up climbing right back up. “That was not a smart move.”

You barely dodge her hand as she tries to grab your face, using your enhanced reflexes and superior speed to dodge under her and back away. “I see you’re probably Gero’s handiwork. So Towa finally give up trying to hide it and just ask him to make you for her? Because I’m noticing some... similarities. In fact you kinda remind me of Chiaotzu’s doll... mixed with bits of me.”

And she doesn’t respond to that, trying to grab you again. You manage to bat her arm away, kicking her in the gut and pushing away, flying for a bit to get your distance. She comes at you once more. “Your energy will be used for a better purpose, Tuffle. Surrender it.”

“I bet you said the same to the folks around here, didn’t you?!” you bark in response, moving through the ruined city. What a nightmare that must have been, a girl like this going around killing people... “I think I’ll keep my Ki, thank you very much.” You quickly contact Goku and Piccolo... who seem to have ended up with their own, similar problems. You sense Goku transform in the distance. That... is not a good sign.

She’s damn near relentless in her pursuit, and you’re on the defensive right now...

“Number 16 is with Dr. Gero. I am Number 19.” she replies in monotone, nearly grabbing your neck before you catch her arm and smack her in the jaw with your other palm, dashing away.

Okay, if Ki attacks are going to get eaten, and the MP Buster didn’t do much more than give a small blip, you’ve got another way to fight her. You draw your blade and let out a cry of “RAIOKEN!”

Dashing at 19, your now superior speed allows you to get some clear hits in on her... but none that leave any lasting damage. At one point you nearly bring your sword down on her face, only for her to catch it between her hands, an unflinching look on her face. And... you start to feel even your sword get lighter, quickly pulling it back. It returns to normal, but that did not feel right and you’re going to have to be even more careful now.

You’re still able to keep away from her, but even with your better speed she’s... barely even attempting to take this seriously. 19 fires a pair of beams from her eyes at you, aiming at your legs, and you only barely manage to dodge in time. “Pattern recognition improving. You can not outlast me.”

You sense Piccolo and Goku getting closer to your location, and from the sound of things, they’re fighting pretty seriously, and Goku might not be doing as well as Piccolo is. Not sure how long you can keep this up...

Okay, you’ve got a plan. Her next dash at you comes, and you counter with the Izumi combo, being extra careful to avoid her hands as you counter. You luckily push her away, then smirk. “You know, 19, that clown outfit doesn’t really work on you. Maybe you should try something else! CLOTHES BEAM!”

You throw the frilliest, prettiest dress you can manage at her. You then get a little... creative. You use just a little Fire magic to enhance your next punch, quickly using the opportunity the distraction gave you to smash your fist into her face, setting the dress ablaze! That... staggers her momentarily. Not as much damage as you’d have liked. “Target lo-”

“NOPE!” you fire a few clown noses at her, filling her vision them as they start to catch fire from the dress covering her face, and use the chance you have to teleport away, right to Goku...

...and right in time to catch him as he falls from the sky. He shakes his head and looks up at you. “Aheh, hey Maple. Nice save.”

“Seemed like you needed some help, monkey boy.” you chuckle to him.

“The both of you will need more than help to deal with what’s before you.” a smug, arrogant voice shouts from the sky. “A shame none of your other friends are here at the moment, but the two of you are enough for now. I’ve wanted my chance to get back at you all for so many years...”

You look up and see... a red haired man in a blue army jacket with red ascot, open and shirtless, cracking his knuckles and chuckling.

“FOR DAMN GOOD REASON!” 17 hollers. “I was humiliated by the likes of you. The Red Ribbon Army was forced to work with that coward Pilaf. But everything changes.”

Red Ribbon Army... Pilaf... oh wait! “You were the guy who didn’t buy the camels from Hassan!”

His shoulders slump slightly. “...that’s all you remember of me.”

“Yeah, you missed out on a great deal, buddy. Like, the best deal. Those camels have been loyal and helpful companions for years.” You grin wide, remembering it all like it was yesterday...

“For years I have waited to strike back at the likes of you for HUMILIATING me like that. And but a few months ago... heh, at least, by your time, Dr. Gero finally gave me that chance. I am no longer Colonel Silver. I am what that flamboyant fool was meant to be. Artificial Human Number 17, a warrior with limitless power!”

“You still missed out on the camels-”

“SILENCE!” he roars, firing a Ki blast down at you and Goku, only barely missing as the two of you move out of the way. “But even if my power is without end... that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy having just a little more. The two of you will surrender your Energy to me!”

Is Colonel Violet a Robotech now?

So, I've been thinking about how we might counter these ki-draining androids. Here's a few options I thought of:

>1.) Attack while android/cyborg is busy trying to drain another blast.

This is potentially dangerous, as any blast that can hold an android in place is sure to power it up enough to that it could dodge or retaliate quickly, not to mention that physically attacking something near a huge ki blast is inherently dangerous. But if successful, it might be possible to damage/disable the android's arms/ki draining thingy and have them take the brunt of the blast that they were draining.

>2.) Get small sharp/blunt objects, infuse them with ki. Fire large ki beam at android, have ki-infused objects ride the beam (and/or telekinetically propel them down the beam) and damage the android's hands as the ki blast gets sucked in.

This might need some approval from the QM.

The fight with #19 showed that it can't quickly drain the ki from Maple's ki-infused sword, instead opting to grab the flat ends between her palms and drain it from there. This might mean that, if #19 was dumber, she would have tried to catch the edge with one hand, which could have messed up the android's hands.

If we infuse objects with ki, that may make them immune to being disintegrated by our own attacks; if you look in DBZ, there's a lot of environmental objects that can get damaged just by a person powering up. But swords and the like seem to be able to withstand its user's aura/ki as long as it's infused with the same ki.

Using that train of logic, infusing some small blunt/sharp objects (i.e. rocks, bullets, glass) might protect them from the disintegrating effects of a beam attack. If that holds true, then firing them along with a beam would cause them to accelerate at the same speed as the beam that it's riding. If the android attempts to absorb said beam, it will funnel all the energy into a small point to be sucked into the little globe-looking things into its hands.

It is here that the ki-infused objects come in. Since they are physical objects and not ki, they would get sucked along with the beam, but not absorbed into the android; instead, they'd impact the android's hands with a pretty high velocity. Since androids can't drain ki-infused objects instantaneously, this could mean that said ki-infused objects could cause appreciable physical damage to the android's hands/energy draining thingy. Or maybe even clog up the line if the objects were small enough, would result in the ki attack going through instead of being absorbed.

Of course, there are also some other options:

Fuse with someone so we can get a huge enough powerboost to physically overwhelm the androids. The stronger Z-fighters in canon trained so much that they could fight off the androids so that they didn't need to fight cleverly.

Your Scouter tells you that 19 is closing in, and Piccolo seems to be moving closer to your position as he fights the other one of Gero’s creations. But on the bright side... you can sense Raditz, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Launch start to approach. No sigh of Krillin, Lapis, Lazuli, Acer, Chi-chi, Yamcha, or even Chuu Lee, but that might be for the best. Yamcha’s probably still at Capsule Corp, the kids are safe at the Lookout, and you can bet the others are heading off to serve as backup at some other places.

Goku takes his stance, and you take yours. Well, sounds like he’s got the same energy absorbing things 19 had, so going to have to be careful...

“Goku, let’s outpace him! He might be tough, but he won’t be able to keep up if we work together.” You let the Raio-Ten’s purple aura flare around you, sparks flying.

Goku smiles and nods, then shouts, “Raio-KEN!”

17 seems to be able to keep pace initially, but while he might be a bit faster than you, you’ve got superior reflexes, and Goku seems to outspeed him entirely. The two of you work in unison, carefully focusing your attacks and keeping away from Silver’s reach. He’s smart, aiming for parts of your bodies that are harder to protect, but with you and Goku covering each other’s backs, you’re able to hold him off.

At one point he almost grabs Goku’s neck, but just in the nick of time you Clothes Beam a pair of strong, padded gloves on his hands. When he grabs, he can’t draw more than just the remaining residual magic from you making the gloves, and Goku’s able to kick him away, chasing after and slamming his knee into the back of 17‘s head. He tosses the glove aside angrily and stands tall.

“Goku! JAN! KEN!” you shout, bolting at the former Colonel Silver with Goku as the two of you, in unison, shout “Rock!,” your fists hitting him in the sides, “Scissors!,” next poking him in the eyes, causing him to cover his face and grunt in pain, “PAPER!,” and finishing it off with a pair of palm strikes to his gut, sending him flying.

17 crashes through a building, and that did look like it did some damage to him... but most of it just seemed to enrage him further. “If you’re going to make this difficult I’ll just take the energy from your fresh corpses!”

You and Goku barely manage to dodge a pair of beams from 17‘s eyes... and then you get an idea as you see them blast through some buildings, creating yet more rubble. You cup your hands together and build up Ki... but not a lot of it, focusing most of your efforts on instead pulling up some rubble with your telekinesis. Goku dashes to him and feints a few strikes, allowing you time to fire a quick, weak Kamehameha that 17 is sure to notice.

His attention is focused on Goku, but he seems to smirk and quickly bring up one of his hands, absorbing the Ki... and then getting pelted with the rubble, one lucky, fast-moving bit of rock slamming right into the Ki absorber and cracking it.

17 pulls his hand back in surprise, looking over the damage. He clenches his fist angrily. “Corpses it is then. Time I make the two of you realize how outclassed you really are.”

Right as he says that... you start to feel Piccolo’s Ki drop. Oh no...

You dash to Goku’s side quickly, right as 17 starts to walk towards him, slowly, with a malicious smile across his face... and you seem to notice lights in his eyes. “I’ll make this quick.”

You place your hand on Goku’s shoulder, then shout out “CLOTHES BEAM!” and materialize a set of Raditz’s armor right around 17‘s head. He seems to not even be phased by it and fires a pair of beams from his syes...

...but you’re already gone, you and Goku appearing right above Piccolo and the person attacking him, the two of you quickly dropkicking them, freeing Piccolo. Goku catches him as he starts fo fall, and to your relief, Raditz, Chiaotzu, Tien, and Launch arrive to even the odds a bit.

“Ugh. Remind me not to try that again.” Piccolo groans, rubbing his head.

“Ahh, just the people I’ve been waiting to see.” the fighter’s voice announces. You and Goku finally get a good look at... her.

Launch lets out s soft gasp. “You... you’re...”

“Been a while, ‘Officer.’” she addresses Launch mockingly, running her fingers through her long blonde hair.

“H-Hasky?!”

“Well, not anymore. You can call me Artificial Human Number 18.” the woman declares.

Launch clenches her fists. “Why? WHY?! You were making progress, you were-”

“Turning over a new leaf? Don’t make me laugh you condescending bitch! I was a complete goddamn screw-up, and it was all because of YOU. You and all your bastard pals. I...” Hasky looks down, sighing slightly. “...I almost fell into the same trap you did. But lucky for me, a few people helped show me a... different path. And I’m going to enjoy showing you how much better this path is!”

Piccolo hastily explains to the newcomers about her ability to absorb energy, and warns against getting too close. Raditz takes his place next to his brother, Launch... just staring for a minute. You can hear her mumble under her breath “why” a couple times before Tien manages to get her to snap out of it.

Well, you have her outnumbered, but she just took in a lot of Piccolo’s energy, and you’re gonna have to fight smart over this, because you know 17 and 19 are going to get here soon.

Your thoughts of trying to keep this fight going seem to vanish as she not only moves right in the middle of your group quicker than anyone but you and Launch can realize, but manages to bring out a strong Explosive Wave that knocks all of you down. And before Goku and Raditz can react, she quickly grabs the two Saiyans by the face, knocking their heads together and starting to drain them, looking to Launch with a sadistic grin. “I’m debating on saving you for last, just to drive home the gap between us.”

Tien and Chiaotzu try to rush her, but she just dodges and causes them to smack into one another, quickly stomping down on Tien’s back. She laughs tauntingly... but instead of continuing to struggle, Goku opts to try a different approach, drawing his Power Pole and letting out a muffled “EXTEND!”

A hard thwack to the back of her head gives Goku and Raditz the chance they need to back away, Chiaotzu helping Tien up. 18 rubs her head and glares at him. “Clever bastard, but that’s not going to work again. In fact...”

She uses the greater power she got from the two Saiyans to move behind Tien and lock him in a full nelson, hand on the back of his neck. Launch shouts at her, “Let him go!”

“Ah, very protective of your man. But one wrong move, and I’ll do more than drain the poor bastard.” 18 replies, Tien’s Ki dropping steadily. Your Scouter lets you know 17 and 19 are approaching. This... this is bad.

But you might have something to fix it. You tap two fingers to your forehead, building up Ki. Only got one shot... You teleport right above Tien and shout “CLOTHES BEAM!,” covering Hasky’s face with a “BAD GIRL” shirt and her hands with padded gloves, managing to stop her draining Tien.

The confusion allows him to struggle free, elbowing the cyborg woman in the jaw and backing away to Launch. But with him free, that allows Hasky the chance to punch you in the gut, blasting the glove away with a burst of Ki and grabbing you by the neck. Ki starts to leave you as she squeezes. Every part of you feels like it’s on fire, as if someone is dragging your very essence out of your body, kicking and screaming.

It’s a thankfully brief experience, Goku trying for the Power Pole again. 18 catches it with her free hand... as Launch throws a gun at her. And then three more. The unexpected pelting by actual firearms, not their bullets, gives you the chance you need to bite her hand and break free, you quickly teleporting back to the others.

“...please tell me you haven’t forgotten how to actually use those things.” Hasky asks Launch dryly.

You tell everyone to hold on, and make a hasty teleport with your friends, locking on to the chicken you sensed earlier. Raditz and Goku power down, everyone taking a moment to breathe. “Well that’s an embarrassing way to start a battle.” Raditz grumbles. “Cheap shot and drained... agh, damn it all!”

“There’s no wounds from it.” Goku notes. “But that felt awful.”

“But now she’s gotten even stronger, and we’ll be sitting ducks out here if we don’t come up with a plan.” Piccolo grumbles angrily. You can feel the sting to his pride, but seems he doesn’t feel as bad about it after seeing you, Goku, Tien, and Raditz all go through it. Launch is... silent.

You tap two fingers to your forehead and appear back at the Lookout, right next to Mr. Popo. Peppa and Gohan seem to have gotten the Bio-man to calm down, reading a book to him before noticing you’re back, nearly tackling you and Goku.

You pat each of them on the head gently as Kami and Trip appear, Piccolo turning his head away. The aged Namekian waits a moment before speaking, letting you all settle. “That was indeed a close call. But it sadly is not the only thing we have to worry about.”

You bite your lower lip. “I... kinda figured.”

“More foes are out there. Chuu Lee, Krillin, Lapis, Lazuli have engaged in battle with a powerful demon trio trying to do something with some of the Aquma.”

“That demon water stuff?” Goku recalls. “What’re they planning?”

“I am not quite sure myself. But in addition to that... I’ve felt a strange presence, something seems to have appeared near Gingertown. I can not make sense of its Ki; it does not seem to be a demon, nor anything natural. I feel like I should have recognized such a presence sooner, but with everything that’s happened...” Kami looks down in shame.

“Wait, what about Acer, Chi-chi, Yamcha, or Mark?”

“Yamcha caught a strange illness out of the blue. Bulma seems to know what it is, but until he is cured Acer, Chi-chi, and Mark have decided to try to guard Capsule Corp, Videl being there as well.” Trip comments. “I only recently got this message, I was going to pass it on to you, but you appeared just moments after I recieved it.”

Strange illness? Gods you hope it’s not related to whatever the demon trio are up to... You rub your forehead and try to think. Well... you don’t knof if they’d be of any help, but they did come back recently. “Nappa and Vegeta?”

Nappa meanwhile walks to the Saibaman, which almost seemed to be waiting by the palace like a puppy. Peppa glares at Vegeta, holding your leg defensively as he addresses your group. “So what have you fools gotten yourselves into?”

“Something that you couldn’t handle, I’m sure.” Raditz replies.

“Another tin can you couldn’t beat on your own?” Vegeta asks in a very telling way. Seems you know what he was doing here now. “Feh. Might as well show you clowns how it’s done.”

I did consider Violet for a time, but you've interacted with her even less than you did with Silver and Hasky. Plus Hasky has a bit more of a reason to accept the process to make her an Artificial Human.

Vegeta tried his hand at fighting Super 13, and actually managed to win. He then felt like he was on a winning streak, and decided to try his hand against your group. Vegeta really does not like Fusion now. He's used the Pendulum Room twice before, first to try and unlock Super Saiyan and second when you tried fighting Cooler there.

If he did see Darkness, he might fail the trial.

Towa has reminded Gero a few times that he's starting to live on borrowed time, and his creations need a bit more work if he wants to truly succeed. Gero's starting to put the finishing touches on his next few creations.

Launch is... kinda upset with herself. She started to blame herself for this, but knows that she's going to need to push past it and stop Hasky. Part of her really did hope Hasky was going to reform.

Things might not be easy in the next few threads depending on how it all goes.

Nappa is deeply concerned over that Saibaman's behavior, and what the blue, mutant Saibaman is doing there. The Green one likes him. The Blue one calls him the Big One.

A tall, green, figure on a rooftop with a heavily insect-like appearance, large wings and a “tail” of sorts coming out of its back. It seems to be looking for something. Some...one. It spots a person on the ground trying to run... and gives chase.

You share with him your memory of that to drive it home. “It might not be easy, but Fusion could give us an edge against this if we learn it. And we need to master it if we want to have any chance at winning... that.”

He’s silent again. “...That bad, huh?”

You nod. “First thing’s first, we need to find out more about this thing. Then we practice.”

He sighs and the two of you sit back down. “...we’ll get back at him for that, Bulma. I promise.”

She seems to have calmed down a bit herself, Pantea and Videl confused, but starting to pick up on the seriousness of the situation. You focus on the thing again. Looks like you missed the act, but the person it was chasing is... gone. Nothing but clothes behind. At Acer’s suggestion, you try to focus back on the Time Machine. And then... there’s an odd thing you seem to feel, a connection to it, but not anywhere close to the bug monster.

Your eyes light up when you see who it is... and then start to sense them. Bulma notices the change in your expression and asks, “What is it?”

You and Acer smile. “First bit of good news we’ve had today.”
