You hear Jack and Griselda talk indistinctly in Griselda's office. Also hearing this is basically the entire Tankery team as well. Seems like everybody has a horse on whether or not the boys can keep the bombings up or not. Serafina puffs her cheeks out, glaring. “I hope they kick them off the ship entirely.”

“I hope we get to spray 'em with the hose!” Patton boasts. “Won't be so invincible outside of their planes!”

“Can anybody hear anything?” asks Serina.

“No, because Mulcahy is guarding the door,” says Iris. Mulcahy folds her arms, looking around at everyone. She may be your security liaison, but you decided to allow Griselda to borrow her just for this moment so that the team doesn't eavesdrop. She doesn't look the part of a bouncer, but nobody really wants to know if she's suddenly Oscar material on the inside either.

“This is tense,” says Winona.

“No. Really.” Ingrid looks at Winona incredulously. Winona rolls her eyes. “I thought it was pretty calming actually.”

I am very dissapointed in everyone last thread, and I hope that this is solved this thread by Gris and Jack and nobody moans about it.

With all that out of the way, I vote for more training and sidequests, especially since Nona had a new part for us to see.

Also I hope this goes better than my screening of GuP der Film at my theater. They got a bum Blu-Ray disc and it stuttered during the start of the second battle and then stopped completely near the end and we couldn't finish it.

Nah, it was dubbed. It was better than I expected based off of my minute and a half of watching the series dubbed. Lot of meh performances, but Yukari, Rosehip, Darjeeling, all of Kursk and Fukuda were good.

>>1099304
Because nobody wanted to hold any quarter during negotiations. The coach is right, we basically argued against a deal by saying 'do the same thing as before'

People were letting their emotions get way too far ahead of them in negotiation.
>>
>>1099315
Anyways, I'm going to just say we stop this discussion for now, we just started and would rather this didn't get heated at the beginning of thread.

I didn't like what happened, I wanted comprimise and that's about all that can be said.

Neat!

Yeah, it was bullshit that we got screwed out of a showing. We should fire off complaints to Cineplex and Sentai Filmworks.

For what it is worth, it's not likely the theater's fault. They get whatever they were given and the guy had little trouble running it the day before in testing. In this case, Eleven Arts and Sentai are probably the better targets. End of the day, I'm not as fussed. Got in for free because of a friend, so it's not the end of the world for me.

Wouldn't be against another showing though I doubt it will happen.

You keep on waiting around for another hour, deciding for now to take a vacation day to maybe help Winona work on her tank or help anybody else who might need you. But still, none of you hear anything useful from the position you're at, only now can you speculate what's even happening inside the room. Maybe they're arguing intensely, maybe they're coming to a polite compromise.

Maybe they're even kissing and making out in there! Eugh.

Finally, the two exit the office. “And get the fuck out of my hangar you fucking jackrabbiting fuckknuckled cumbag,” says Griselda in a very flavorful tone. Oh jeez. Things didn't go well it seems. Jack holds up his hands defensively, stepping out with a blank expression and without another word. Everyone watches him leave, then immediately crowds around Griselda. “What the-”

“What did he say?” you ask.

“Did he ask for the sponsors?” asks Iris.

“Are they gonna keep the bombing up?” asks Serafina.

“Did he ask you out on a date!?” asks Giap. Everyone glares at her. “... what? I- it's a legit question.” She twiddles her thumbs, blushing a little bit. “Nevermind.”

Griselda pushes everyone away, stepping out to the hangar. “No, nothing happened. We talked about the deal. We came to a solution. He stops the bombing entirely. They will keep practice to themselves, stop buzzing people, and they will leave LGA when the month is up.” Oh? “Elodie, Iris, I'll talk to you later about that. I am nursing the biggest headache of my life otherwise I'd tell you now. But for now, everyone fuck off out of the hangar. I have to teach the Survivalists how to drive a tank.”

Realizing what that means, everyone bugs out of the hangar immediately besides Griselda and the Survivalists. Denise waits outside for you, smiling. “Hey, Ellie! What shall we do today?”

“Oh? You want to hang out?” asks Ingrid.

“Yeah,” you say. “I got some time. Figure I can get to know you a little better.”

“Sure.” Ingrid smiles, then motions to Josephina as she wipes a mark off of Oliver with a rag. “Do you mind if Josie comes along too? She's uh... I try to include her when I can. She doesn't have too many friends outside our crew.” You nod. That's a shame actually. But you won't argue it.

Ingrid's choice of hanging out involves playing catch out in the park. She's changed out into some sporty shorts and a plain t-shirt along with a Giants baseball jersey, that of Madison Bumgarner. Whoever he is, he has the most sorry name you ever heard. It seems all that time in Tankery has definitely made her stronger, she can actually deliver the ball some distance now. Though her throws don't have a lot of bite to them. You understand though, this is for sport. Denise and Josephina sit by the side, snacking on some chips as they watch your bags. “Beautiful day for a catch,” says Ingrid.

“Yeah.” You receive the ball from her, then toss it back.

“Okay, hold on.” She sets her feet, planting them down firmly. “I'm going to give you a curveball!” Oh jeez. Here it comes now! She kicks her leg up, then immediately fires it at you. It softly lands in your glove. The only thing curving in that was your expectations for it. Huh. “Ha! You see any movement, Ellie?”

“Baby steps, Ingrid.” You lob it back to her. “But you're really growing. Last I remember playing catch you could barely throw the ball.” Ingrid giggles at that thought. At least she takes it like a champ. She lobs it back to you. “Maybe you could play for LGA's baseball team, get drafted by the Yankees or something.” Ingrid's smile drops a little, but she tosses it back in due time.

“Yeah, maybe,” says Ingrid. “I hear your parents are coming aboard.”

What? How did she hear that? “Where did you hear that?”

“Quartermasters,” she says. Oh. Them. “They gossip like they're babysitting toddlers.” You lob the ball back to her. “My mom is actually coming around to live with me too.”

“Is she?” you ask.

“Yeah, in a couple of days,” says Ingrid. Her smile drops completely. She tosses the ball back, this time a bit harder. “She's a really sweet woman, kind of distant but that's part of her work, you know?”

“Oh right, she's uh...” You purse your lips, trying to remember. “A mathematician?”

“A sabermetrics adviser,” she correct. “Basically she sees things other people don't. There's a whole layer to baseball that a lot of people miss, she helps with that by boiling the sport down to the basic numbers, finding the undervalued gems in the pool of rough cut diamonds.” You nod. “Was working with the Mets actually.”

“Oh? You like the Mets?” you ask.

She shrugs. “Mets are okay. I like them, my Dad works their concessions right now. But-...” She sighs a little, then tosses the ball back to you again.

“Something the matter?” you ask.

“Nah, nah. It's fine,” says Ingrid. She beats the inside of her glove, then grins at you. “Hey. Give me your best shot!” She kneels down, holding the glove up. “Come on! Right down the middle, I know you got some heat in there, Ellie!”

You take a deep breath, then set yourself much like a pitcher would. You raise the glove up to your face, looking over the leather right at Ingrid. She crouches down, ready to receive. Denise and Josephina look on in anticipation. Here you go. You kick your leg up, then put your whole body behind this pitch. Hips, legs, shoulders, arms, hands, fingers. You sling the ball forward.

Right over Ingrid's head. She looks up and watches it go dunk in the lake in the behind her.

“Oh my God, I'm so sorry,” you say quickly. You walk up to her. Ingrid laughs out loud, rubbing her eyes a bit. “That- I hope those aren't expensive.”

“They're a couple of dollars a pop, it's fine,” she says. “But holy shit! You got some distance!” She nudges you, grinning. “You'd make a decent outfielder.” You smile a little. “And hey, you do treasure hunting. Maybe in like a century, maybe your descendant finds that ball and realizes 'oh my god, this was the ball that Elodie threw into Lake de Grasse! Sacre bleu, hon, hon!'”

“Why are my descendants french?” you ask.

“Cuz.” She shrugs, walking over to the bag. “I think that's enough catch for the day though.”

“Alright.” You hand off your glove to her. “Feeling alright?”

“Never better, why?” she asks.

“You seemed a bit um...” Denise hands you your bag, and Josephina helps Ingrid load hers as well. “I dunno the word, I want to be polite. It's-...”

“Oh, don't worry!” Ingrid looks at you, realizing what you mean. “Me and my Mom have an excellent relationship. We're just a bit distant as all. She has to work away from home, she travels with scouts a lot too. Heck, she personally scouts people sometimes but...” Ingrid shrugs a little. “I dunno.”

“Well, alright. I won't pry.” You smile at her however. “But if you need me, I'm around. Sometimes people need to talk, sometimes people need to listen, you know?” Ingrid takes a second to think on that, then she nods. She hefts up her bag, then the four of you start walking to the street.

Josephina says to you two, “Did you have a nice catch?”

“Yeah,” says Ingrid. “Sorry if we didn't-”

“No need!” Josephina motions to Denise. “Denise was actually telling me a funny story about her days as an investigator.” Ah, yes, her noir days. “Oui, I did not think of little Denise as a hard boiled Humphrey Bogarts type if I am honest.”

Denise smirks smugly, placing her hand on her ample chest. “I can play any role given to me at any time. I could even imitate Elodie!”

“Really?” asks Josephina. Ingrid also looks curious.

Denise nods, about to go full blast apparently, but your disapproving look silences her. “Ahaha... another time.” With that though, the two groups go their separate ways. But you feel that Ingrid and Josephina are that much happier spending some time with you and Denise at least.

You and Denise arrive at the garage where not only Winona and Athena are working, but also Huxley, Lisa, and Benny, along with a couple of other people are now working too. “Ellie!” Winona waves to you as she holds the lift for a massive engine being fitted to an enlarged and lengthened rear of the tank. It actually loses its rectangular form from above and is now more like a very full T. “Say hello to the Honeywell!” she says in a singsong manner.

“Nona!” yells Huxley. “Keep a hold of it! We almost got the bitch in!” Lisa and Benny jiggle and wrench the engine into place into the enlarged engine compartment. “Son of a fucking whore! Fucking... FUCK!”

Lisa looks up from other end of the tank. “Huxley, watch your language!”

“Fuck off, Lisa, this fucking engine-” There's a loud creaking noise as the engine starts to lower itself in. “Ah, okay, there we go, there we go! Let her down easy! Easy!” Winona slowly lets the crane lower down into the compartment. “Stop! Okay, Lisa, Benny, start wrenching this fat bitch in quick. Winona, I'll take over!” Huxley runs over to the crane, then holds it down for Winona to take a break.

“Isn't that the engine from an Abrams?” you ask.

“Yep. They're pretty common in Unlimited, but very expensive. But, my contact hooked me up at cheap cost! That engine was actually in a combat worthy Abrams,” she says. “Dunno why they scrapped it though.”

Athena says, “Conveniently... it was actually pretty cheap. Only a couple tens of Ks.” Oh? That's- actually incredibly cheap for a modern tank engine. “Ellie, can I talk to you in private real quick?” Athena leads you out of the garage, letting Winona tell Denise all about it. “Something's fucky about all this.”

“What do you mean?” you ask.

“Isn't it strange that Winona is getting all of these parts for cheap?” asks Athena.

“Well, now that you mention it.” You fold your arms, thinking on it. Mister Griffiths is pretty rich, he's pretty influential, hell he owns half the Boston Red Sox for crying out loud. “I mean, it makes sense that people would give her discounts based on her family, but there has to be a limit.”

“Mhm.” Athena places her hands on her hips, looking inside the garage. She goes over the new blueprints with Denise, who carefully examines it confusedly but attentively. “I just hope that whatever happens with her Dad doesn't shock her or anything. Winona strikes me as the type of girl that doesn't seem to realize life is good because her parents can make life good for her with just a bit of money. That's just me though.”

“What are you thinking?” you ask.

“I'm thinking we ask Winona's Dad, and if he is manipulating things, we tell him to stop.” Athena shrugs. “That's entirely up to you though, and probably up to Winona too. I imagine she wouldn't be happy if she realized Daddy was bending the rules for her.” With that, the two of you step back inside. Oh, Winona. What will you do if you realize that the rules were bent bent just for your sake?

Winona looks to you all. “Hey, guys! So Ellie, listen. Since the Honeywell was a bit too big for the Panzer IV, we've had to widen the chassis a little bit. But in order to save a bit of money, I decided to actually just embiggen the engine cabin rather than the entire chassis. But, that does mean we might have to think about four tracks rather than two. Like a Scorpion tank.” A what?

“Yeah, that's fine, Winona. Listen.” She blinks, smiling to you, waiting for you to tell her.

“You ever think that things are a little too easy?” you ask. Winona blinks, her smile replaced by a contemplative expression. “I mean, think about it. Griselda has trouble maintaining our tanks as they are, from the factory as they were built. You're building a completely custom tank, and somehow you've spent less than a hundred thousand dollars I think. That is a real bargain, you know.”

“Well, you shouldn't say things are too easy,” she says. “That is when things get hard.”

“Just saying,” you say. You fold your arms, looking to the crew as they fix the engine in place. “It could be nothing but you know.” You shrug. “Just think about it.”

Winona nods slowly, then her eyes widen a little. “I'm gonna take a call real quick.” She pulls out her phone then steps out of the garage. You walk on over to the tank and see Athena, Huxley, Lisa, Benny, and Denise helping out in fixing it in.

“There we go!” Huxley pulls his blackened and greased up hands out. “I'd say she's fixed in and good to go. Now we just need to fix in the electrics. I imagine she'll want a powered turret instead of a handcranked one for the missiles. Then we can figure out transmission too.”

Athena nods. “Yeah. Once that's all in we can-”

“WHAT!?” You all look to Winona as she talks on her cell phone. “B- but, Daddy! This was supposed to be my project! I- I can't believe you'd go behind my back and do this to me! Wh- why would-... I know you love me, Daddy, please don't- Daddy! I-...” Winona sighs, pausing as she waits for her Dad's response. “I know, you try to make life easy for me, but- this was supposed to be something I wanted to do myself. I-... I can't just send all this stuff back now! Not after everything! … Well, Elodie told me.” Oh fuck. Everyone looks over at you. “Well, she didn't tell me per say, she said it seemed suspicious that things were so easy. I mean- Daddy, Christie spends millions on their Unlimited Program, I was even starting to get weirded out how cheap this tank was. C-... Daddy.” Winona grumbles severely. “I know, I know.” She sighs loudly, frustrated.

> - 50 MORALE TO WINONA

Huxley steps off the tank. “We should go,” he whispers. He, Lisa, Benny, Athena, and Denise make a hasty retreat into another garage.

“Yeah, Daddy.” Winona sighs, rubbing her forehead. “I know, I love you too, Daddy. Please, stay out of my things, okay? Okay. I'll let you know what we do with the Tank. Call you soon, Daddy.” She hangs up. She squeals a bit, stomping her foot angrily. “Ah! Mm!” She shoves her phone into her pocket and fumes around outside.

“Winona?” You step to her, calm and friendly. “Are you okay?”

“Ugh!” Winona stomps her foot again, pouting furiously. “Dad. Always trying... I know he loves me, so does Mom, they all love me. But it's like- I can't ever do anything on my own without them trying to intervene in my favor! You know, I was playing Little League once in school. Guess what Dad did to tip the odds in my favor!”

“What he do, bribe the umpires?” you ask.

“No! He hired Mo Vaughn, a retired baseball player to play for our team!” she says. What. “Turned the Little League game into a charity event so that even if I lost, we still won because we were raising money for cancer! You should've seen it, Mo was wailing on the other team's pitchers, he hit like twenty home runs! But that's beside the point, this happens every time I get close to wanting to do something myself and they- they ruin it! It... ugh...”

You fold your arms, sighing. “Well, at least you have parents who love you and want to see you succeed.”

“That-... I don't succeed if I don't do things myself! I don't want to be old money for the rest of my life! I don't want to go a big university because my parents paid for me to get in! I want to be rejected, I want to strike out every once in a while and- and this Tankery Unlimited stuff, they know it's important to me and they still...” She sighs, leaning over, looking at the ground. “Ellie, I'm tired. I just want to go goof off or something.” She huffs. “There's no point in this anymore.”

“Yes there is,” you say.

“How?” she asks sadly.

And as much as having the money helps, we're the ones who will be building, driving and fighting, not them. We'll be up against veteran schools who have spent millions on their machines.
You said this was your dream, are you really going to let it go just like that?

“As long as you get one person interested in Unlimited, as long as you finish this tank, you'll show them that was you, not them. Just you and us working hard. They may have the money, but we have the determination. Don't let this get you down, Winona. Don't even let it slow you down.” She looks at you, a heavy frown on her face. “Come on.”

Winona takes a deep breath, then nods, hands on her hips. “Alright, Ellie.” She smiles a little at you. “I guess we can do that. But...” She looks to the engine, and to the tank. “Everyone's gone now. Plus, engine's already in too I hear. I think we're done for the day.” You nod at that. “How about I treat you to some dinner.”

“Alright,” you say.

You and Winona eat burgets at one of the diners around here on LGA. Some baskets of fries sit between you and her, and your milkshakes as well sit ready to be drank incase you need it. Winona is absolutely filthy from the work she's done today. Denise sits next to you, digging in as well. “So how did things go with Griselda?” asks Winona.

“I don't know,” you say. “I hope they went well.”

“They better have,” says Winona. “I don't want to pay the boys any money after what they've done.”

You sigh. Boys. “I'm sure Griselda had something nice planned for them anyway.” It better not be any financial aid or something like that. You finish off your burger. “Maybe they get a shot at some free calendars or something.” Winona giggles a little at that. “Anyway, we should head to the hangar, it's gonna get late.”

“Yeah,” says Winona. She leaves a 20 on the table for the waitress, then the two of you stand up. “Just so you know though, Ellie. Thanks for helping me out with the Unlimited stuff.”

“It's fine,” you say.

“No. Really.” Winona places her hands on your arms, smiling proudly to you. “Not so many people like you in this world, believing in those who can't believe in themselves.” She sighs. “People like to say they're on your side but when the chips come down, they disappear. I don't imagine you would though.”

“Of course not. My parents would kill me if I ever left someone to hang,” you say simply. Winona giggles at that, then leads you out of the diner.

You arrive at the hangar. Stack, Josephina, and Ingrid are busy washing Oliver the Cromwell for his next practice tomorrow. “Where are the Survivalists?” you ask Iris.

“Outside making camp. They seem to think digging holes is somehow more hardy than what we do currently.” You roll your eyes. “We won't know what tank they'll take until tomorrow though. I was just about to check in on Griselda, see what deal she made with the boys in regards to our painting situation. Did you want to come with?”

“Oh?” Griselda sits at her desk, shuffling through papers. “You want to know the deal I made?”

“Yes,” you say. “It wasn't anything financial was it?”

“No,” she says. “We tried for a win-win situation though and the most we came to was a compromise.” Griselda places a paper down on the desk, glaring at you a little. “By the way, Ellie, what the fuck was up with you last night, asking that the bombings continue?” Uh. You blush a little. “Forget it. It's stupid anyway. The deal was that the boys stop the bombings, stop buzzing girls, keep practice to themselves, yadda yadda, all that.”

“And in exchange?” says Iris.

“In exchange, I help them seek out sponsors from other sources that are not LGA,” Griselda says simply. “And that the KDH Skycraft team also get to have homecooked meals by Giap and Penny the rest of the time they're here.” They've had Giap's meals. “Giap apparently cooks a really mean pho. Plus...” She leans back in her seat. “I did also promise them free issues of that calendar we're planning on making.”

“Oh?” Iris tilts her head, curious. “We're not doing anything lewd are we?”

Griselda stares at Iris. “Do you want to do something lewd?”

“W-...” Iris coughs, clearing her throat, a light pink to her cheeks. “No, I was clarifying, Griselda.”

“Good. Just tasteful pin ups. Let the boys jack off to whatever they fucking want.” Griselda slaps more papers aside. “And in the end, it won't matter much anyway, it's a niche product intended to raise money within this school, not out of it anyway.”

“When are we doing the calendar?” you ask.

“As soon as the photographers come,” says Griselda. “Probably either tomorrow or Friday. I want Friday though, no practice that day to get in the way. I'm sorry I didn't run this by you guys by I just wanted this fucking thing out of the fucking way. I hope this isn't detrimental to either of you.”

Tasteful pinups are good. Lewd you can get anywhere.

“All in all, I think that's a pretty good deal. Could be worse anyway.” You fold your arms, looking down at Griselda as she works on her reports. “Question is, is it detrimental on you?”

“Pfft.” She rolls her eyes. “Please. I'm used to having to look for sponsors anyway. If they don't want me, and usually they don't, they might want an up and coming Skycraft team like KDH. Jack even offered to help me out with some of this paperwork but I told him to fuck off because I can barely trust him to do anything for himself. You know...” She places a paper down, looking at you two. “I think you two should be a little grateful that adults don't fuck everything up for us. We're in charge of our finances, of our actions in the team, of everything, and adults like Miss McPherson and the Roberts sisters, they're just there to monitor and train. I'd hate to be on some landlubber school.”

“You mean in,” says Iris.

“Yeah.” Griselda huffs. “Sometimes I feel sorry for Jack, he gets to play around with planes, but he doesn't get the kind of freedom we get. Whatever.” She shakes her head. “Anyway. I'm glad you two aren't hung up about it. Tomorrow's practice, so get some rest. Ellie.” You stand at attention. “Tomorrow, the Survivalists are going to take on the Jagdpanther, just completed restoration today. I was going to convert it into a Panther but we'll have to see how they do in there. SU-100 isn't ready just yet.”

“What about the swedish tank?” asks Iris.

“Meh. I'll figure out some use for it later,” says Griselda. “Ellie, tomorrow, please take care of the Survivalists for me. If you need help, Miss McPherson or the Roberts should be there to help too, okay?”

“Alright,” you say.

“Good.” She takes up her papers again, moving to work. Then she sees you two haven't left. “What are you two, Abbott and Costello? Do you need something else?”

I wonder if we can convert the 8.8 PaK 43 to the KwK version and use it on the converted Panther.
We'll need a Schmalturm, though. Didn't Winona have one of those?

Never built, probably not tankery legal as it would've required major modifications to the turret to fit the gun. Besides which there would've been just about no room left in the turret with the 88s breach to actually work the gun.

Griselda sighs when you say that, then says, “Fine. Pull up some chairs.” You smile at Iris, who simply shrugs and pulls up her own chair quietly. You grab your own. Pretty soon, the three of you have a system going for paperwork. You make the initial signatures, date everything, most of the actual paperwork stuff, Iris is on QC, then Griselda on final confirmation with her own signature. This process goes through pretty swimmingly, with Griselda taking quite a few breaks in between you and Iris doing much of the work.

Eventually though, you manage to get most of the paperwork. Iris yawns, then checks her watch. “Oh dear, it's almost 11 O'Clock. We better get to sleep soon.” Yeah, you should. You wipe your glasses a bit, then look at Griselda.

She's dozed off completely, sleeping on her desk. You and Iris glance at each other. Well, this sort of work is boring to those that don't like it. Though, you decide not to actually bother Griselda or wake her up. Instead, you grab her blanket from her cot that she has in the office, then drape it over her shoulders. Iris smiles, then pats Griselda on the head. “Good night, Griselda.” She turns around and walks out of the office.

You sigh as well, quietly. Then you move to the door. “Good night, Griselda.” You shut off the lights, and let her slumber soundly in the dark.
