>Information

This quest takes place long before the events of The Last Airbender. Long before Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, or Yangchen. You play as a young Earthbender from a small village in one of the many Kingdoms scattered across the main continent. As a powerful villain strives to dominate the world, you will be forced to make choices that can stop it, aid it, or have no effect whatsoever.

>Rules

After each update I make, there will be a voting period of ten minutes. Once ten minutes have passed, whatever option has the most support will be the winner.

Write-ins are accepted, but only when specified If you see a write-in option, suggest whatever you like. If not, choose from the options I have provided.

Sometimes, rolls will be required. I will assign them, and they will operate under a d100 system. You will have three chances, and if one of the rolls succeeds, you pass. There are no crits, but I do take into account how much you succeed or fail by.

I reserve the right to veto certain write-ins, but will try to avoid doing so.

I hope you all have fun

After several hours, Lantana finally wakes back up, stretching and letting out a yawn as she takes a look at your surroundings. She frowns when she sees that Sansha has still not woken up, but doesn't dwell on it too much.

"How are we doing?" she asks Huo, who glances back at her.

"It's gonna be at least two weeks before we reach the city," he tells her. "Which reminds me, we're going to need a plan once we get there."

Lantana nods. "I remember enough of the city's layout to come up with some ideas, but Xiong's not going to make this easy for us. With three, maybe four people, this is going to be nearly impossible."

"Most of what we do is nearly impossible," you point out.

Lantana chuckles. "True, the day we met, you took down Jungo. Anyway, as far as this, I have an idea or two. There's a series of passages beneath the city, that's how we were able to escape when the city fell. If I know Xiong, he'll have them well guarded, but there's only so many people you can fit in an area like that. The thr-four of us could sneak in that way. Between us, we should be able to handle any guards. The passage should lead us to the palace, and we can fight our way to Xiong."

What about sneaking in disguised as refugees? As a large city in the region they must be swamped with them
>>

"That might work," you tell her. "But what if we tried sneaking in disguised as refugees? Such a large city in a region like this must get tons of them."

"Maybe," Huo says. "But there's a good chance that we'd just be turned away. And, we'd also have to find a village where we could buy disguises without you two being recognized."

"So then, we could just send you in to buy us disguises," Lantana tells him. "There probably aren't a ton of wanted posters up for you yet."

Huo shrugs. "I guess. Is that what you guys want to do?"

"I think that, before we make a decision, we should have a look at the city," you speak up.

"Alright, but that may make things take a bit longer," Huo warns. "Anyway, we have a few weeks to see if anybody has other ideas."

The next day, after another long stretch of travel, you and your friends stop to set up camp. You create earth tents while Huo gets a fire going, and Lantana sets up sleeping bags. Once all of that is done, you take Sansha off of Pengsong, and carry her to her tent, placing her in the sleeping bag and leaving her to get some sleep for the night.

You climb into your tent, closing your eyes and drifting off into sleep, only for your dreams to be interrupted by a blood-chilling scream in the middle of the night.

You bolt from your tent, finding Lantana and Huo doing the same. The three of you look at each other, then toward Sansha's tent, from which another scream emerges, making all three of you jump in surprise.

Rushing to the tent and bringing it down with Earthbending, the three of you kneel beside Sansha, who thrashes wildly in her sleep, tears streaming down her face.

"What should we do?" you ask.

Lantana bends some water from her canteen, attempting to heal Sansha, but it quickly becomes apparent that there's nothing she can really do in that regard. Putting the water away, she instead grabs Sansha by the shoulders, attempting to shake her awake.

"Sansha!" she calls to her friend. "Sansha, wake up!"

After a few seconds, Sansha's eyes shoot open, and she lets out a terrified gasp, looking around in confusion. When her eyes reach you, she seems to calm a bit, though her expression is sad.

"No," you tell her, giving her a hug. "You're alive."

You let her go, and Lantana hands her a canteen, which she begins to drink from desperately. She must be quite thirsty after days of being unconscious.

Once she's had a few minutes to recover, you and the others fill her in on what's transpired. When she hears what's become of Mauya, she immediately asks what the plan is for getting her back.

"Disguises didn't really work for Sei and I," she comments once she hears that idea.

"This will be different," you promise her.

Sansha sighs. "I really hope so. I don't want to lose anybody else."

Silence hangs over your group, until Lantana speaks up.

"We should all get some rest," she tells you. "We want to get up and get going bright and early, right?"

"No, thanks," Sansha says, standing up. "I'm really not that tired. I think I'm going to go for a walk."

With that, she walks away from the camp.

You decide to accompany Sansha, leaving the camp with her and going for a walk around the forest. She doesn't say anything to dissuade you, but she doesn't look thrilled, either. You imagine that there's little you can do to help her spirits at the moment, but perhaps a bit of company will be a small step in the right direction.

The two of you travel in silence, with very little care for direction. Sansha doesn't seem to have a set course in mind, though you trust her to remember where the camp site is.

"I'm glad you're alive," you tell Sansha, not sure what else to say.

"I'm glad you're alive, too," she replies, her expression not changing, but her tone telling you that she's completely sincere.

You should hope so.

After a long, quiet, somewhat awkward walk, you and Sansha return to camp, saying goodnight and going to your respective tents for some sleep.

Travel continues over the next two weeks, until one evening, as the sun sets, you can make out a large, walled city in the distance. From your vantage point, you can spot spires rising above the walls, likely indicating where the palace is. You also spot a large crowd of people gathered at the city gates, some armed, but most dressed in normal clothing or even rags.

"We're here," Lantana tells you. "We'll make our move in the morning."

"Neither will scaling the wall," Sansha adds. "Unless Xiong's braindead, he'll have sentries posted."

"I still say the passages are our best bet," Lantana tells you.

Leaving Sansha to keep watch, you go to your tent, closing your eyes and falling asleep. Sadly, the peace doesn't last, and you find yourself lying on the ground, no sleeping bag beneath you, no tent above you, only ground and endless sky.

You see Lantana and Huo rising and looking around in confusion, but your attention is drawn to another figure, slowly approaching, their face and features covered by a dark cloak and hood. Despite this, you have a pretty good idea of who it is.

"Still running in circles?" a woman's voice asks from beneath the hood. "Such a pity. After all the trouble I went through, I was hoping the Avatar was a worthy enough nemesis to warrant it all. But this..."

Her head turns. "Hmm...no sign of the little Waterbender. Did she go and get herself killed? And what of the young Airbender? Did he finally see reason and stay behind?"

"What do you want?" you demand of Kalana.

"I've come to offer you a chance to walk away from this alive," she tells you. "Sei, was it? You're a capable bender. The warrior watching over your sleeping bodies possesses great skill. Even the young Waterbender is not without potential."

Her head turns, and she regards Huo. "You, I don't know, but I'll assume you aren't entirely worthless."

Huo rolls his eyes. "Thanks. You're Kalana, then?"

"I am," the hooded figure affirms. "Now, on to my point. I have found what I was looking for, and soon I will be coming for the Avatar. You don't have to die with her. Either capture her for me, or simply walk away, and your lives will be spared. And, if you swear allegiance to me, I'll give you a place of honor in my new world."

"She's really full of herself, isn't she?" Huo asks.

Kalana looks toward the Firebender, who cries out in surprise as he seems to briefly fade from view.

"What have you found?" you ask Kalana.

"Why, knowledge, of course," she tells you in an amused tone. "Knowledge that will not only allow me to rid the world of the Avatar, but to finally do what she has failed to do; bring it peace and balance. I have the power to create a perfect world. There will be no more warring kingdoms, no more greedy rulers exploiting their people. There will be one world with one ruler, and that ruler will guide the world into a brighter tomorrow."

"You won't win," Lantana promises. "You're deluding yourself into thinking that you're doing the right thing. But, really, you're no better than Jungo. You'll meet the same end he did."

Kalana laughs. "I somehow doubt that. But, what was that you said about me deluding myself into believing I'm doing the right thing? What do you call letting yourself believe that the Avatar has actually accomplished anything other than putting down the occasional conflict or starting others. The spirits entrusted you to keep balance in the world, and time and again you've failed. Now, the spirits have given me the power to succeed, and no matter how hard you fight, no matter how you refuse to see reason, I will bring peace and balance to the world."

She looks to you and Huo again. "You can join me. Together we can finally end the wars that have plagued mankind. We can put an end to the incompetence of the Avatar. We can create a better world. Will you join me, or will you stand in my way?"

Before taking your turn at watching over the camp, you tell the girl about the dream you had; from the visit of Kalana to the visions of her and the others meeting gruesome fates.

"So, she's found what she's after," Sansha says in a voice full of dread. "I hope we're ready when she comes for Lantana. "Anyway, there's no sense sitting around and worrying about the other nightmare you had. For now, just clear your head a bit. I'll see you in the morning."

She gives you a hug, then heads for her tent, disappearing and leaving you alone.

While Sansha and the others sleep, you ready yourself for the coming battle, training your Earthbending in an effort to make sure that your senses and skills are sharp, and that you are prepared for whatever comes.

Moving far enough away where you don't much have to worry about disturbing the others, you train as hard as you possibly can. You have difficulty focusing, the images that appeared before you while you slept refusing to completely relinquish their hold on your mind, even in its waking hours.

Your training suffers, but you aren't entirely hopeless. If nothing else, the training should be a decent warmup for when the battle begins.

It's not long after you finish that you see Lantana emerge from her tent, looking around nervously until she sees you. You approach her, and she asks you a question before you can so much as say "hello".

"You saw her, right?" she asks in a whisper. "Kalana?"

Lantana nods. "Like I said, the passages should take us right to the palace, and we can fight through whatever guards he has to reach him. Once we find Xiong, then between the four of us, I know we can win."

"Why don't you sound so sure?" you ask her.

"Because Xiong was never somebody to go down easy," Lantana answers. "I'd be shocked if he didn't have a few surprises in store for us. We'll have to be careful, and keep our eyes open. We need to make sure that we're ready for anything, because knowing him, just about anything could be thrown at us."

"And we can't kill him until we find out where Mauya is, which makes things tougher," you add.

Lantana nods. "Exactly, this won't be easy."

"It never is," you point out. "But we'll be ready."

"Yes, we will," she tells you with a confident smile.

Stepping forward, you embrace your friend, who returns the hug, smiling fondly when the two of you break apart. Whatever happens, each of you knows that the other has their back.

"We should wake the others," you suggest.

Once the others are up and moving, Lantana hides Pengsong in the woods, and leads the rest of you to a cluster of rocks not far from the city. Stopping in front of the one in the center of the cluster, Lantana uses her bending to move the massive stone aside, revealing a hole beneath.

"It won't be well lit," she warns.

"Leave that to me," Huo says with a smirk, dropping down into the hole and using his Firebending to provide illumination.

One by one, you and the others follow Huo into the pit, and Lantana takes the lead, guiding you through the passages and toward the palace.

You keep your ears open for any sign of enemies, not hearing anything for some time. After a few minutes, however, you can hear some voices up ahead, and see some light coming from around a corner.

"We should find out what they know," you suggest.

"Good thinking," Lantana tells you, cracking her knuckles and stepping toward your new prisoners, who watch her approach with disdain.

"Man, you're even more stupid than you look," one of them comments once Lantana's right in front of them. "You really thought it was a good idea to come here?"

"Where is Xiong?" Lantana demands calmly.

"Where the Hell do you think?" the man asks irritably. "In the palace."

"How many guards does he have?" Lantana questions.

"I seem to have forgotten to count," the guard replies.

Frowning, Lantana makes a quick motion, and the guards groan in pain, presumably as the rock begins to press harder against them. Feeling more cooperative, the other guard speaks up.

"A few dozen in the palace," he tells her.

"That's it?" Lantana questions.

"Well-" the guard begins before his comrade shoots a glare in his direction. "Yes, that's it."

Lantana turns her palms upward, creating two flames and holding them near the men's faces.

"No," the guard answers. "The hunters are an elite group of Earthbenders Jungo created. Kalana's just been a little more effective with them. Two are in the palace, one's been here a while, and the other just showed up."

"Was this other hunter a woman?" Lantana asks.

The guard nods. "Yeah, she apparently just came from some huge battle."

"Absolutely," you tell her.

"What about these guys?" Huo asks.

"Leave them here," you answer.

Lantana shrugs, leading the way down the passages. You encounter a few more guards on your little walk, but they're easily dealt with. Finally, you reach a ladder, and Lantana leads the way up. You follow, and find yourself in a dark room full of junk.

"Storage," Lantana explains, heading for the door. "Xiong's probably in the throne room. We just have to get through a few small rooms, then head up the stairs."

"Alright," you tell her.

Lantana opens the door, and the four of you slip out, leaving the unconscious guards behind in the storage room, and creeping toward the next room. There doesn't seem to be any guards there, so you continue onward, stopping in front of an archway that leads into a large room, which you assume to be the main hall.

Lantana motions for you all to wait where you are, and spreads her arms out to her sides before bringing them together. You see two men thrown from either side of the arch, crashing into each other and falling to the ground in a heap. Lantana steps over them, making her way into the hall and looking in either direction.

"Here comes the welcoming committee," she warns, clenching her hands into fists and hurling a pyro blast into the distance.

You rush into the hall, finding six guards rushing toward you, one of whom is forced to duck beneath Lantana's fire. The others come running as fast as they can, each of them armed with swords and shields.

As the guards come running, you create a pit right in front of them. One hapless man doesn't stop in time, and screams as he falls forward into the pit, while the others stop dead in their tracks.

Lantana creates a second pit, this one right beneath the survivors, who join their friend in the darkness.

"Let's keep going," Lantana says, creating a bridge over the pit and rushing forward.

"Look out!" Sansha shouts, and Lantana leaps just in time to avoid a sword from skewering her.

The weapon clatters uselessly to the ground, but laughter comes from up the stairs.

Your blood boils. You know that laugh.

Slowly strolling down the stairs is the woman that helped kill Gava, and that nearly killed you and Sansha.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, she grins devilishly, drawing her other blade and readying herself for battle.
