Shinobi Quest #57

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last Thread, Tsuki Norihime got a letter from her father discussing a variety of topics, and finally travelled to the moon.

(Warning, the first few posts will be reposts from “Conversations” Paste, for those who didn’t see/read it.)

You lean back, getting comfortable on your puppet throne; honestly, it isn’t *that* uncomfortable.

Slowly, you begin to ascend- thankfully there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of wind here, so any potential hazards during your flight can be ruled out. Briefly, you imagine making such a ascent back home, but shuddering and sinking lower in your seat. Whipping winds, variable temperatures, high speeds- flight back home has a lot of variables to consider.

Your new seat *does* offer you a rather unique view of this inverted world; despite it’s odd sloping shape and impossible geometry, it’s quite beautiful- especially from on high.

Your wide smile fades into a mischievous grin. These Otsutsuki- they sealed Kaguya away for being a goddess, but proceeded to build themselves a miniature world where they can look down upon the world below… not unlike gods themselves?

People have such amazing capacity for hypocrisy, truly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A short time later, your throne drifts to a stop outside the large temple complex you had seen from below. Up close, you can see it’s grand stone facade, carved into the floating mountain that houses it. Interlocking arches lines the entrance, and above, a large stature of a horned man gazes outward, grim-faced and promising judgement to the masses below.

You still can’t help but smile.

An entire army of Toneri’s constructs line the pathway to entrance, all bowing deeply.

This is a showing of respect you can get used to~

Welcome, Tsuki Norihime, to the Temple of Hamura.” Toneri’s voice echos from his puppets.

“Happy to be here, I suppose- do you have the refreshments I was promised?” You retort, still sporting a coy grin.

“Er- yes, of course. Please, follow the guide inside the temple. I await you in the dining area.” He responds.

“Very good- lead the way, then.” You say, tilting your head towards a new arrival- a puppet like the others, but dressed in white, ceremonial robes.

The construct beckons you forth, and you follow it a few paces back as it leads you into the temple proper.

You’re lead through a sprawling opening hall, decorated with spiritual ornamentation and decorations. Depictions of the horned man, who you assume to be Hamura, are nearly everywhere; accompanying them are smaller depictions of what you assume to be lesser historical events for these people, dating back across their history. Despite nearly a thousand years to themselves, this is all they left behind? The thought baffles you, especially when framed in the context of your own world’s history.

In a thousand years, warring daimyo and their vassals cut out swathes of the land that would eventually become the Great Nations; from this vessel, the Shinobi villages were born. Each daimyo can track his lineage to the origin of his family line, and there are tales upon tales from those times. In contrast, these folk seemed to be inordinately focused on one point in their past- the accomplishments of their great ancestor.

Hamura- likely Hamura Otsutsuki, one of Kaguya’s two children.

It’s not a small leap of logic to make, although it carries implications. If these moon folk are all descended from him directly, as seems likely, it’s quite the pedigree- even if you care little for their reputation, they are descended from divinity, even if that divinity was stolen.

In your thoughts, you had stopped paying direct attention to your surroundings- and you nearly run into the stopped puppet as a result. It, like it’s brothers, is now bowing, it’s arm outstretched to hold open a door.

Inside, a large window dominates the far wall- the view of the world below, and the castle floating across from the temple, is breathtaking.

“It is quite beautiful, isn’t it? I’m afraid I haven’t seen it myself since I was a young boy.” a soft voice says from across the room.

A small boy, no taller than yourself, sits at the end of a long table. The table itself is immaculately set with fine silver tableware and snow white table linens. The boy’s hair is a stark white, his delicate features obscured slightly by a dark veil. Across his collarbone are several black magatama, seemingly written into his pale flesh.

“I welcome you to my home. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me- I apologize for my earlier rudeness.” He says, rising from his chair.

You feel your face warm, slightly- he’s rather pretty, for a boy. Sakura and Ino would likely be foaming at the mouth over his looks. But where did the malleable kid from before vanish to?

“No need to apologize- I would respond similarly to an invasion of my home.” You respond politely- omitting the the fact that you did that very thing nearly a month past.

“Yes, your home… I do have many questions for you about that place- but I forget myself. Please, take a seat; my constructs will attend to us.” Toneri says, gesturing to an empty seat at the other end of the table.

“...Yes, of course. I thank you for your gracious hospitality.” You say, slowly walking to take your seat.

As you do, Toneri claps his hands twice- a parade of puppets emerges from the entryway, bearing many entrees, snacks and, thankfully, tea.

Did he prepare all of this himself, or did the puppets? Morso, how is he controlling them he’s…

“Let me guess- You’re wondering at my ability to control these constructs with such skill despite my blindness? I suppose it would be somewhat shocking for someone from the world below- it’s the Tenseigan.” He says, pointing to the glowing orb hanging just above, fixed in the sky.

“My ancestors spent generations sealing their powers into the Tenseigan, and as a result it allows us unparalleled control over our environment. Tasks like cooking, cleaning- any other daily tasks, really- are quite simple using this power. These constructs are just facet of what it can do.” He explains.

“Really? You have absolute control over the environment? Why do you remain here, then?” You ask as the constructs set your tea down.

“There is little for me down there that I don’t have here in the temple. The powers of the Tenseigan are not limitless- we can only harness so much of it at a time. It was easier when there were many of us, but as you have seen…” He answers.

“You’re alone here.” You finish.

“Yes. I admit this freely- I am the last of the Otsutsuki. I will not bore you with our thousand year history, although it is immaculately recorded, if you wish to learn. Until you arrived, these constructs were all I had to keep me company.” He says, taking a sip of tea.

You do the same, out of courtesy- it’s dark and somewhat bitter. Not exactly to your taste, but a fine brew nonetheless.

“The last of your line… what about your mother or father? No uncles, aunts or cousins?” You ask, testing your boundaries with Toneri.

He smiles sadly.

“My mother died in childbirth- and those still living at the time of my birth were nearly all old men. Most passed before my memories truly begin, and are hard to recall. My father was the last- and he passed on to the pure lands nearly five years ago now.”

“I… see. My mother also died during my birth- and I have no siblings. My father is all the family I have left in the world, though I’ve made many friends and associates.” You admit, hoping to build a bit of rapport.

“We are two of a kind, Tsuki- though you’ve been blessed with the good company of others. Unfortunately, these constructs make poor conversation partners.” He observes, taking another light sip.

Five years with nobody but yourself for company? It’s amazing he hasn’t gone insane…

“There aren’t any others on this moon? Even from outside your family?” You query. The focus of your mission isn’t Toneri, after all- there should be a colony of Rabbit spirits, Kaguya’s worshipers.

“There… are some. They aren’t human, however- and are dangerous. I would take the utmost caution to avoid them. I’ve spent a good portion of my free time trying to eliminate them- as my family has tried to for generations. They’ve dwindled alongside us, surely- it’s been months since I’ve seen hide nor hare of them.” He answers.

Dangerous? For someone who is the ancestral enemy to Kaguya and her followers, you suppose it’s possible- though they seemed desperate, not dangerous.

“You’ve been very forthcoming, Toneri- and you didn’t have to be. I really appreciate that.” You say, nursing your tea.

He smiles.

“Don’t praise me so highly just yet, Tsuki. I’ve answered your questions- and I have some of my own. Father took me to the world below once, as a child; through a portal that closed when he died. I haven’t been able to open it, no matter how hard I tried…. And so, I’ve sat alone in this place for five years.”

You feel the question coming before he says it- and there is a slight edge to his voice as he does.

“So, tell me- how exactly did you, a woman from the world below, make your way into my family’s realm?”

You quickly take a sip of your tea to give yourself cover while you think of an answer.

This is bad- his entire family line was dedicated to the sealing of Kaguya; if there was anybody in the world who understand what you’ve gone through, it would be him. But at the same time- you definitely used Kaguya’s powers to get here, and will likely need to use them at least one more time to get home.

How will he react to you colluding with his family’s ancestral enemy?

Keep your composure, Tsuki....

You’ve come this far- might as well be truthful about it.

“Well- It’s a really long story.” You warn.

“I don’t exactly have any appointments to keep, Tsuki. Please, go on.” He retorts, wearing a small smile.

“Alright- where to start…. My team was on assignment in a vast desert….”

------------------------------------------------------------------

So, you tell him. You have to stop multiple times to explain various aspects of your society- the shinobi system, the way the village is structured, the nations- you even draw him a crude map.

The explanation takes several hours, touching on everything from the mission in the ruins, the Zetsu, the discovery of the Egg, the initial nightmare- up to the discussions you had with her recently. You explain yours reasons for coming, Kaguya’s request, and your bargain.

Toneri hangs on every word, his expressions changing wildly throughout. Several courses are served, and dinner proceeds this way, with you doing a majority of the talking.

“So, here I am. A world away from home, joining the descendant of a deity for dinner, served by his staff of chakra-controlled puppets.” You finish, exhaling with relief. He’s the first person you’ve told about any of this, and it’s a giant weight off of your shoulders.

Toneri, however, is quiet.

“Destroy it.” He finally says, tone flat.

“Huh? You mean the egg?” You question.

“Any line of communication with her must be destroyed. There’s no telling when she might take control of you- or use you to free herself. I’m honestly surprised she’s even allowing you to speak with me.” He clarifies.

“Well, that’s fine and all, but- without this thing, I cannot get home.” You explain.

“You could always live here, with me.” He says offhandedly. “Although I’m sure you wish to return to your friends and family. Nobody wishes for this kind of solitude.”

You’d be embarrassed- if the subtext of the conversation was less serious.

“I haven’t made any contract with her- other than coming to this moon. I went out of my way to avoid it, actually. If I must destroy it, I’ll do it once I’m home.” You declare.

His expression softens.

“I do appreciate you being honest with me, Tsuki. If you hadn’t, I certainly wouldn’t be inclined to trust you. Logically, I should just destroy it now, using the power of the Tenseigan. My family has been guarding her remains for millennia- letting such a thing exist freely for even a minute disrespects the sacrifices my ancestors made.” He says.

“Logically, you say- how about illogically?” You say, trying to keep your cool.

You don’t want to be trapped here, no matter how cute he is. You have things to do- millennia of sacrifices or not. But if you refuse to give it over, he might use force- and you’re deep inside a place fully under his control.

Toneri steeples his fingers.

“I don’t wish to repay the respect you’ve shown me with violence. You did come to speak with me before finding the Rabbits, as well. I want to believe you’ll heed my warning, but…”

“I have no way to ensure it- and that’s the problem.”

The conversation has gotten rather tense- and you notice the presence of the puppets around you now more than ever.
“You might.” You say, trying to pique his interest.

His brow twitches, and he leans forward.

“How so?”

“Come back with me. You could always destroy it once we’ve reached my world.” You offer.

He rests his forehead in his hands.

“Maybe, maybe not. With the Tenseigan, I can guarantee that it will be destroyed- and besides, leaving this place in the hands of the rabbits is a mistake. There’s no telling what they would do with access to her remains.”

“I have no reason to believe it would be difficult to destroy- it actually seems rather fragile.” You explain.

“You haven’t tried, though- by your own admission. Why would a vessel she made for herself be so easily broken? And that still doesn’t deal with the Rabbit issue.” He retorts.

Yes, the rabbits. They seemed harmless, but from Toneri’s perspective, they are the enemy. Kaguya wants you to save them- and Toneri wants to be rid of them.

“They might die off on their own. They didn’t seem to be in good shape when I saw them last.” You remind him.

“Doubtful. Their numbers have dwindled to current levels because of the work of my family. Otherwise, they would have unlimited access to our food stores and machinery. They would replenish their society within a few generations, and essentially have won the conflict. I won’t let that happen.”

Ergh. Why is he so stubborn?!

“I- I see. Well, that certainly does leave us with few options.” You stammer.

“Indeed. I would know your thoughts, Tsuki Norihime.”

His voice is cold. He’s obviously determined what must be done- and you aren’t sure if you like it. He may be desperate to get off this rock, but he seems unwilling to forgo the burden his ancestors left him with.

“I could always bring you both to the other world- That way you are free from your burdens, and they cannot do anything to Kaguya's remains.” You offer.

“A tempting thought- but I wouldn’t trust those creature to run loose on the world below. We gave them so many chances, Tsuki- all they needed to do was stop worshiping her. To acknowledge her for what she was, and live in peace with us. Instead, they stubbornly stuck to their ways- and the words of their matriarch.” He explains.

“So… that’s a no?” You pout.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea. No need to take such risks when we could simply be rid of them. Without them here, I would be happy to travel to the world below.” He offers.

He’s not so easily convinced, then. A shame- you had wanted to both save him and honor your agreement with Kaguya- although having him around if you continued to associate with her might be problematic in it’s own right….

“I don’t mean to rush you, Tsuki- but I would have your answer. I would greatly enjoy a tour of the surface world- especially if you were to join me. Your aura is unique- different from any I’ve ever experienced before. There are others I would like to see on the surface as well… To be frank, I yearn for it. But my duty must come first- it must.” He says, reassuring himself.

Feh- his adherence to tradition and ancient pacts certainly isn’t something you can empathize with; though, he is doing it for his family. He’s had it rough- and now you offer him a route to freedom, with only one little roadblock.

But, is it worth it? The rabbits had seemed so easygoing and peaceful- some may be zealots, sure- but does that mean they deserve to perish for being the losers of the conflict? You know what Danzo would say- you know what Father would say- and you know what Kagoto Aburame would say.

But are they right?

You can see Hinata, Nori and Itachi’s opinions just as easily- there’s no way they would let that happen.

But none of those people are here now; just you and Toneri.

What is your answer?

1. Double down on the first answer- you’ll make it work!

2. Try to establish dominance over him. That malleable little boy must be in there somewhere!

3. Agree to wipe out the rabbits.

4. Feign agreement, then flee later.

5. Refuse outright, and flee.

I think we can do this
The rabbits aren't evil, they just want peace. Tonrei isn't bad, but he's been living in a mausoleum his entire life, to a civilization so long dead that there's basically no trace of them on earth against an enemy who really may not be that bad.

“W-well, hold on! The way it was explained to me, we could bind the rabbits to a contract- they wouldn’t be able to act without our influence!” You say, desperately trying to convince him.

“Tsuki… why are you so worried about them? They aren’t even human- and they worship a deity solely focused on her own personal power that nearly killed our ancestors. You said you were a shinobi, a warrior to protect her people. These creatures pose a threat as real as any other, I assure you… is the deal you made with Kaguya holding you back? You really shouldn’t worry about it- she certainly wouldn’t if the situations were reversed.” He chastises.

“I-I just wouldn’t feel right killing them all- I just wanted to broker a peace between the two of you.” You say, trying to keep yourself in his good graces.

“An honorable goal, if misguided. I’m sorry to press this choice upon you, Tsuki. To an outsider, I’m sure this all seems like madness… but in the same vein, to me, your wars on the world below are similar. Squabbling over land? Rights of rulership? Petty squabbling over the contrivances of man. Lord Hamura warned against such things- but he believed his brother Hagoromo would lead the world beneath into a golden age. It seems he may have been a little too optimistic.” Toneri says, standing from his seat.

“Please, take the night to rest. If you decide to aid me, I would welcome your company. If not- I understand. I will take matters into my own hands, so you need not bloody them. I do want to go with you to the world below, Tsuki. I feel like your people would benefit from Lord Hamura’s teachings… and I would surely learn much more of the wider world.”

He gestures to the hall you entered from- farther down, you can hear a door open.
“I’ve taken the liberty of having the constructs prepare you a room. It wouldn’t do to have a guest stay in the cold during the night cycle- please, make yourself at home.”

He’s not being forceful at all…. This isn’t what you expected. If he would just listen…!

“Tsuki? Are you well?” Toneri asks, his inflection carrying a concerned tone.

This anon has the right of it. Toneri and the rabbits are entirely optional- and simply letting you get both by selecting the correct dialogue options would be silly. In this instance, you are dealing with mortal enemies spanning generations- there are limits to regular diplomancing. The dice simulating Toneri's response is more realistic than just handing you the correct path.

The justification is two thirds of humanity got whipped out fighting genetically engineered plantmen and the MC is incredibly greedy and impulsive. The amount of Muslims and that Christianity got a lot less followers and Hellenism came back just made polygamy easier to accept.

“Ah- yes, sorry. Just tired, I think. Thank you for your hospitality.” You say, rising from you seat.

You bow slightly in thanks. Not something you do normally- but he’s treated you well.

Toneri just laughs. It’s a faint, small thing- you get the feeling he doesn’t do it often.

“My- where did the forceful lady from earlier go?” He teases.

Your brow quirks unbidden- where does he get off teasing you?

“She can come back, if you’d prefer.” You say, your words a little harder than you meant them.

“Sorry, sorry- You’ve been wonderful company. If you require anything of me, I’ll be in the temple’s main hall for a time, consulting some records. Good night, Tsuki Norihime.” Toneri apologizes.

“Goodnight, Toneri Otsutsuki.” You respond.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A robed puppet leads you to your room. This entire place exudes an air of loneliness, and it’s nearly entirely dark. Makes sense, considering that Toneri is blind, but it’s still difficult to adjust to.

The room itself is finely furnished, if rather traditional in it’s stylings. At first you were worried about dust- but either Toneri keeps the rooms all clean, or some of his puppets cleaned the room while you were eating.

Honestly, his mastery over them is impressive- far beyond the puppeteer from Suna you had seen. Even Sasori’s puppetry had limits- and Toneri seemingly controls his with thoughts alone. He credited that orb in the sky- the Tenseigan. Quite the power source; you can’t help but wonder what else it would allow him to do if the need came.

You don’t particularly want to find out, either.

Sitting down on the bed, you weigh your options. Two are rather straightforward- and one might just be the stupidest thing you’ve ever considered.

You could escape- it would be easily, as Toneri obviously isn’t expecting it. You’d need to break the fall somehow- or wait for the floating stones to align themselves in such a way to make the jump.

Alternatively, you could let him kill the rabbits and be done with it. Kaguya wouldn’t be pleased- in fact, she’d likely be furious. But at the same time, you’d begun to question your association with her as of late- nobody ever has anything good to say about her. If you can’t destroy the egg, you could always pitch in the ocean, or something….

….Or you would be really, really dumb. If you could make a pact with the rabbits without him knowing, they could vanish without a trace. After bringing the two of you to the world below, you could summon them in as initially planned- though Toneri would still want to destroy the egg. He likely wouldn’t be happy if he found out, either.

You slump over on the bedside, the faint simulated moonlight spilling over your face.

Why does this have to be so hard?

You toss and turn on the bed for a while- you can’t come to a decision. Anybody you could ask now would be horribly biased, and you wouldn’t be satisfied with whatever answer they give you.

Moreover- it’s now night. You asked Hinata to leave you be for the rest of the evening- and it’s entirely possible that she’ll have other things to do in the morning. She won’t let you stay holed up in that room forever, though- and if she sees you aren’t there….

Damn. You only have what, a day? If you don’t return before the end of the day tomorrow, everyone will begin to panic.

Tch… you’ll just have to pick something and follow through with it. You don’t have enough time for conjecture- and certainly not enough time for regrets.

You’ll….

1. Let Toneri handle the rabbits, and disavow yourself from Kaguya entirely.

2. Flee now, and try to locate the rabbits' hideout. If you can form a contract with them before morning, and get out….

3. Double deal- attempt to fool Toneri by sneaking out and forming the contract with the rabbits ahead of him (somehow) without him noticing. Then transfer both of you back home- and then try not to let him find out…? Ugh.

>Confront Tonrei at the Castle Gates
“Tonrei please, this will be the last time I ask you this, please let the Rabbits go, I know you've been at one another’s throats for a long time but show me that your the more honourable man I took you for.”
>Gently hold his hand
“Show me that these teachings are more than words, show me they are action, show me your a man not an animal living for old hatred, show me your better than that!”
>Hold hand to our chest/heart
“Please Tonrei, please don't commit genocide on their kind when for the first time both sides have the chance to just walk away.”
>Release his hand
“I'm a woman of my word, don't make me break it, please. Let them go, come to Earth with me, start afresh and give your Clan a chance to live again rather than die out and loose the teachings you hold so dear to history.”

Im aware this is a tad cringey at some points but mother fucker i'm taking both these parties back to earth even if I have too blackmail, bribe or beat them into getting along, you fuckers work for Tsuki now.

I've been dragged up here to the moon to put an end to a genocidal war between a blind boy and a bunch of talking space rabbits. And if that wasn't ridiculous enough the boy's decided that because the rabbits 'didn't take the options we gave them' the best solution is to ignore the alternatives that HE'S given in favor of continuing the war on behalf of his functionally-extinct clan."
>"I'm trying to prove a point here, to you, to Kaguya, to whoever will listen: if all we do is stubbornly repeat our failures instead of trying something different, things will never get better."

>>
>>1080712
I'm relatively sure it's a 90 or 95 maybe it'll be better depending how we word it. My issue is. Option 1 is a fuck no, option 2 will also require some moderate but not too hard rolls and 3 will be bat shit hard. So we may as well follow through with what we wanted before. Law of averages is on our side but also I feel words are the key. We'll know tomorrow.

If we fail we can try to save the bunnies anyway and bail....see Tonrei in like 5 years or so for the movie if we live.
>>
Worst Case Scenarios:

>"Last Chance Diplomacy"
We fail with that big speech and he goes all "I see, this is clearly too much for you stay here and i will deal with it" and flies off to kill the bunnies while we're held back by puppets.

All we really get out of this is a Apprehensive Toneri, but if we meet Kaguya later on she won't hold as much a grudge, seeing as we were restrained.

>"Operation: #BunnyLivesMatter"
The Rabbits barely manage to hold off Toneri and his puppets long enough for us to make it back, but he manages to make it through as well, and we pass out upon re-entry. Now this isn't a death sentence, i imagine an on-duty Hyuuga will notice a chakra signatures like Toneri and Moon Bunnies just suddenly appearing in their compound, if bunnies come with us they COULD occupy Toneri long enough for Hyuuga cavalry to arrive, though the rabbits might also be attacked by said saviors

We get a Rabbit contract, but we WILL be dragged in front of the village elders, and will have to explain everything, Kaguya might not be too happy with this result either.

>"Rabbit Season"
By some miracle the Bunnies beat back Us, Toneri, and his Puppets, make it to Kaguya's remains, revive her, and we beg for her NOT to kill us for going back on our promise to help both her and her subjects, most likely by double-crossing Toneri and sacrificing him to the Moon God.

We will most likely die to a vengeful god, if we do survive i doubt it will be in one piece, assuming we will be able to return and not just BAD END.

Oh boy. I wasn't around last night, friggin' Sunday night updates, but...damn. That was a hard DC for sure.

That said I do kinda feel like leaving it just up to dice wasn't the best call. Especially when so many people clearly wanted to try and broker a peace agreement. We could have done a situation similar to when we negotiated to the Aburame, when we tried to rise in the matriarch's esteem to get her support and cooperation. Then if we did win, or even if we lost, it would have felt much more sincerely won or lost.

I get that the DC was by far the easier way. Just coming in to read what I missed, I'm sad that the concerted desire to mend fences has been smashed down by the dice. It leaves an unfulfilled weight in my gut.

You’re going to keep your word. No matter what he says, you just aren’t ok with him just wiping the rabbits out.

Rising from the bed, you take a moment to gather your things- and attempt to plan out your escape. Toneri is blind- but he can still sense chakra, and that grants him a facsimile of sight. He also able to see through those puppets, to some degree; you’ll need to avoid them at all costs.

Your eyes have adjusted to the dim light, thankfully- but even now, it’s rather hard to see farther than a handful of feet when you’re indoors.

This is going to be rough.

But you’re a shinobi- this is your bread and butter.

You…

1. Go throw the main hall, trying to avoid Toneri and his sentries.

2. Find a window to escape from.

Still having second thoughts, you take a moment to write Toneri a letter, explaining yourself. Without any ink, you’re forced to use some of your blood- but at least he should be able to read it. He may not understand- nay, he probably won’t. You explain that keeping your promises is too much a part of who you are; you simply cannot stand by after giving your word to protect the rabbits, human or not.

You don’t hold it against him- and you really don’t want him to hold it against you.

You stop for a time, trying to consider how to end the letter. For poignancy, you make him a promise of your own- that you’ll deal with the rabbits in your own way, and that you’ll come back for him once you do.

You untie your hair ribbon, feeling your hair drop down to your waist.

It’s almost nothing- but it’s all you can afford to leave him.

Leaving the note and your gift on the bed, you slowly crack the door exiting your room, taking look around.

No puppets.

Breathing a sigh of relief, decide to try and find a window to escape from. Your room doesn’t have any that visible open- but the banquet hall did.

Stealthily, you creep down the hallway, keeping as close of a lookout as you can in the darkened hall.

Before long, you see the door to the banquet hall, and gently push it open. The room is silent, but thankfully filled with artificial moonlight. You stride over to one of the windows, before realizing there is a balcony access hidden behind the large, heavy curtains.

Easy enough.

The door gently glides open- and you’re greeted by cold night air.

He was right, camping would’ve been rather unpleasant….

Well, regardless, you need to get going. But how to tackle this? You could try to time the jumps, descending slowly jumping from rock to rock…

Or you could go the quick and dangerous route, diving into the sea below, using a technique to slow your fall.

You decide to….

1. Take the slow and easy path.

2. Take the fast and dangerous path.

Time is of the essence here- you don’t have time to wait for safe jumps.

You walk with purpose towards the end of the balcony, leaping atop the railing in a single bound.

You take a moment to gauge your jump- before breaking into a practiced, elegant dive.

As you begin to fall, you try your best to gauge your distance to the water below. The poor lighting doesn’t make for the best of conditions, so you’ll need to be careful on when you break out of the dive and begin to slow your fall.

You can see what seems to be a light in the far distance… a signal? Is it from the rabbits? But why? Did they know you were here?

As you ponder this, you can see the sea below you approaching rapidly. You’ll need to pull up soon….!

You need to reduce your speed- unfortunately, you don’t have one-handed seals mastered, so you free your broken arm from it’s sheathe as you fall- it still hurts, but you have no other choice.

As you fall, you take a deep breath, preparing the one technique that will slow you enough to survive the fall- “That”.

It’s far more difficult to concentrate due to the fall and your broken arm- and it takes longer to gather the chakra as a result.

The water is approaching quickly- and as soon as it’s ready, you fire!

The blinding blast of stellar energy surges forth, colliding with the ocean below. It’s force pushes against the water, before pushing the waves aside. Your fall begins to slow, but it’s putting horrible pressure on your body, and especially against your arm. As you near the surface, your arm finally gives way- and the beam of energy breaks off. You’re thrown off center, and barely have time to back into a diving position before you crash into the roiling sea.

Shit.

The impact is far stronger than you anticipated, and you’re briefly stunned as a result- it feels like you just hit your head against a wall. The world spins, and you aren’t entirely sure which way is up. You go limp, hoping to float to the surface, rather than swim in the wrong direction.

After a few moments, you break the surface, gasping for air. Your arm is throbbing- and so is your head. Everything else just feels a little numb.

Slowly, you paddle your face to the nearest beach. You shouldn’t be that far from where the rabbits are hiding- but you aren’t really keen on standing, just yet. Laying on the beach, you clutch your head, praying for the pain to stop.

It does eventually begin to ebb slightly- so you try and stand.

Slowly, you attempt to rise to your feet- but you promptly fall back on your butt.

Ugh- seems like you’ll need to wait for your head to stop spinning, first.

It takes almost an hour for you to feel well enough to stand. You’ve lost valuable time, you’re hurt- and that took a lot of chakra to do.

You’re surprised you’re able to use that technique without passing out anymore- but after all this time, you do feel as if your chakra reserves have deepened, and you’ve gained a modicum more control over the technique.

You’re still incredibly drained, though- and now you’re worried that you may not a lot of energy left to get yourself home.

You rise again, staggering slightly as you do. You’re slightly disoriented- but you think you know the way to reach where that light was shining… deep in the forest. With any luck, the rabbits will have seen that light- and be looking for you.

With any luck, Toneri wouldn't have.

Clutching your throbbing arm, you begin to trudge into the forest. Your clothes are filthy, soaked from the seawater and covered in a mixture of sand and dirt.

You sigh.

Hopefully you’re presentable enough to these creatures.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The forest is way too quiet- it’s unnatural. You know Toneri said the place was devoid of life other than him and the rabbits, but this is insane.

You begin to grumble.

You’re too tired to cover your trail, and it’s not like Toneri couldn’t find you anyway- he seemed to have a good idea of where the rabbits were as well.

You’ve spent nearly another hour trudging through these woods, and you haven’t seen any signs of life- let alone a colony of magical rabbits.

The absurdity of that statement catches you off guard- and despite yourself, you laugh.

This entire situation is crazy- you’re inside the moon hunting for magical rabbits that worship an ancient unknown god.

You take a moment just to keep laughing… only to realize you can’t stop.

Eyes wide with fear, you try to shut your mouth with your good hand- only for giggles to keep spilling outward.

“There are things worse than a swift death, human.” A slight voice says from the forest, out of sight.

“I know not why you’ve come to this forsaken place, but I suggest you turn around. There is nothing here for you other than a swift end.”

Out of the corner of your eye, you can see it- the source of the voice.

A small, anthropomorphic rabbit stands atop a tree limb, an arrow knocked in a small, bow- with a bead directly on you.

You keep giggling.

What is this infernal technique…?!

You’ve never tried to speak while laughing- and it’s quite difficult.

“I- I’m here- to-” You start, before immediately beginning to sputter and cough- and giggle.

This isn’t going to get you anywhere- you reach for the egg tied around your neck, tearing it off.

Thrusting it upwards, hoping the rabbit can see, you attempt to explain further.

“From- world belo- Ka-Kagu- ya” You giggle.

You drop to your knees- it’s beginning to get hard to breathe, and your lungs are on fire.

“You’re certainly trying hard to tell me something, aren’t you? And that thing in your hand- what is that?” The rabbit says in a somewhat amused tone.

Your sputter and giggle in response.

“...Fine, I’ll release it. Explain yourself, and hope it’s good- or I’ll make you into a pincushion.” The rabbit sighs, obviously not happy about the situation.

The rabbit snaps its fingers- and suddenly, your throat opens up, and you stop laughing.

You grasp at your throat, gulping down air- and sputter one last time.

“I was… sent from the world below to rescue you. By Kaguya.” You say between breaths.

The rabbit’s tone turns harsh.

“And why should I believe you? You turn up out of nowhere, claiming to be on a mission from our goddess? Like she would even choose a human for such a thing- I’d name you a blasphemer if I didn’t know the ignorance of your kind.” It spits.

Again, you thrust the egg towards the creature.

“This- she speaks through this. It’s what allowed me to come here.” You plead.

“As far as I know, you’re another one of Hamura’s brood, come to hunt us. You wouldn’t be the first- although, you don’t look that much like them.” It retorts.

“I came to bring your family to the world below, to be free of this place. The matriarch- take me to your matriarch. She would understand.” You explain.

The creature just growls.

“If what you say is true- and I doubt it is- I should just kill you and take the egg. Our honorable grandmother could figure out what to do with it- without the assistance of some filthy human.”

Are all of them going to be this hostile? You suppose it cannot be helped….

“Fine- I submit myself to your custody.” You declare.

“You- what?” The rabbit says, bewildered.

“I’m surrendering. Secure me if you must- but please, I must speak to your matriarch. It’s important.” You say, attempting to be as non-threatening as possible.

The rabbit hops down from the tree branch, and walks over to where you’re kneeling.

It’s only about 3 feet tall, with grizzled fur and an eyepatch slung over one eye.

“Well, you definitely aren’t one of Hamura’s brood. Far too proud to ever try something like this- fine, I guess I’ll believe you.” The creature sighs.

“Get up and walk. We don’t have time to secure you properly anyway; do anything shifty, and I’ll kill you.” It declares.

You stand, holding your good arm in the air.

“The other one is broken.” You explain.

“Fine. Stay in front of me, I’ll tell you where to go.” The rabbit commands.

You sigh. You’re exhausted, and this contemptuous furball isn’t brightening your mood.

“Do you have a name?” You ask, trying to lighten the atmosphere.

“....Akuto. Not that it matters to you.” The voice from behind you says.

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Akuto. My name is Tsuki.” You say, trying to be polite.

“Hmph.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After half an hour of walking (owing to Akuto’s slow pace), you reach the outskirts of what seems to be the rabbit encampment. A bright string of lanterns illuminates the inside, based around a large tree.

“Akuto, you’re back!”

“What happened?”

“What is that?”

“Is that.. A human?”

“Why is there a human in the camp?”

Several small voices murmur to themselves as you and Akuto approach. Some hide- while others show himself in defiance of their fear.

Many look just like any other rabbit you’ve seen- except the eyes. The eyes of these creatures burn with a fierce intelligence not seen in their mundane cousins.

“Keep your distance, everyone.” Akuto calls out in a clear voice. “I’m bringing this one to Grandmother. She’s cooperated so far, so nobody spook her.”

Many of the rabbits just glare at you- you feel like you’re being watched from all sides.

Akuto leads you through the center of the camp, directly towards the large central tree. The inside seems to be hollowed out, and there is a great commotion coming from the inside.

"Watch yourself in front of Grandmother. She's kinder than most- but if Saishi or Oki think you're being disrespectful, they'll make you regret it." Akuto warns.

As if you're supposed to know who those names represent...

You just nod your head, and step into the tree.

As you enter the tree, you’re greeted by a large series of gasps.

The rabbits inside the tree look more like Akuto- several are bipedal, and beyond even that, certain ones stick out.
One is as tall as you, with long, lanky limbs and grey fur. Garbed in a simple robe and prayer beads, it’s glare is as cold as ice.

Another, a hulking beast of massive proportions is wedged in the back right corner of the room. Nearly as round as it is tall, this huge rabbit is stark white- and doesn’t seem to be particularly pleased to see you.

The two Akuto mentioned, then.

The inside of the tree itself is relatively well furnished, considering it’s location- although the furniture and decorations are obvious human-sized; likely taken from Otsutsuki settlements.

On the far end, you see a familiarly face- and elderly looking rabbit in face paint, dressed in red and gold finery. Similar to last time, the outfit is frayed and faded- but the paint is fresh.

The matriarch sits on a simple cushion, surrounded by several tiny rabbits- children, most likely.

Behind the matriarch, a dark shadow lurks- a bitch black rabbit with blank irises. It’s rather off putting- but none of the other rabbits react to it’s presence, as if they cannot see it at all.

“Seems you’ve brought us a guest, Akuto?” The matriarch asks, not unkindly.

“Yes, Grandmother- a human who claims to be from the world below. She isn’t Otsutsuki- that much is clear. However, the rest of her story is… well, I’ll let her explain it.” Akuto responds, seemingly still unsure of your story.

“Huh, lost your edge there, Akuto? Bringing back captives when you should be hunting? You’ll be the death of us.” The large rabbit guffaws, his large frame quivering.

“You’re one to talk, Oki. You eat as much as the rest of the herd combined- hell, you eat as much as the kits do in a day in one sitting.” Akuto fires back.

“Boys, enough.” The matriarch says- she’s soft spoken, but all the rabbits in the room immediately quiet at her command.

“So, child. You’ve come from the world below? Quite the trip to make- and not one to be made in ignorance. We saw something fall from the Otsutsuki’s temple- it looked like a falling star. Was that you?” She asks.

“Um- yes, that was me, Matriarch.” You answer.

“Hmmhmmhmm. Interesting. Please- call me Grandmother. Everyone else does- it’s easier that way.” She muses.

“Yes, Grandmother.” You respond.

“Definitely not an Otsutsuki, are you?” She laughs. “What is your name, child?”

“Tsuki- Tsuki Norihime.” You state.

“Well then, Tsuki- why have you come to this empty world- and more specifically, what brings you before us? Little Akuto certainly thinks you have something interesting to say, or he wouldn’t have brought you.” She questions.

You hear Akuto shift behind you- doesn’t like being called little, does he? You file that tidbit away before explaining.

“I come from the world below, on a mission given to by the Goddess Kaguya- a mission to rescue you all from this empty world.” You declare- and the room erupts into uproar.

Some of the rabbits look confused, while the large one just looks angry. The slim on in the back has his eyes closed- and the one hiding hasn't shown any expression.

The matriarch herself looks quizzical, but doesn't appear angry.

"A bold statement, child. Few enough of your kind would even know of the Goddess's existence- let alone say they come at her request. Interesting- but I must ask. Do you have any proof of your claims?" She inquires.

"I... well, I have this." You say, producing the egg.

"It allows me to speak with Kaguya- or, a portion of her, anyway. It was through her I learned of this place- and of your plight. After speaking with her a number of times, she asked that I come to save you from your isolation." You recall.

"It showed me visions- visions of the past. Of your past- telling stories on a verdant green field to children not dissimilar from those around you now. Vision of the Otsutsuki's civil war- and the devastation it brought upon this planet. It seems, though, that it has recovered." You explain.

The matriarch's brow raises. "Stores told on a field of green, you say? Old memories indeed. Say- would you be able to recall that story?" She asks.

[Excellent Memory activates!]

"Uhm.. sure. It isn't short, so I apologize." You begin.

You begin to recount the Matriarch's tale from that night so long ago, doing your best to remember exact details...

Let's make nuROOT even creepier, give everyone the same mask, same form hiding outfit. Plain white bunny mask, black robes to hide our various body shapes. The Rabbits emerge from the Roots to drag you away.

If I can steal anons attention for a moment I strongly suggest we see Tonrei again soon. We don't know when deus ex will try to make us loose the egg and him going mad alone up there is beyond cruel. I say we give him about a week then we go back. We must not fuck up his psyche anymore that it already is.

Save him anons, save him.

how about those masks we made for the desert a while back? they covered the entire face, right?
>>
>>1084455
I'm actually keen to get back to him quick after his calm down period. Next visit we should bring him some eyes, im sure a puppet or even he can put them in.

Honestly there's been worse shitstorms in earlier threads, if that's what you're looking for. Cursed rolls are cursed, this thread.
>>
>>1084710
I wasn't talking about the rolls, I was talking about the choices people made.

>Didn't even write her note in braille.

How inconsiderate of Tsuki
>>
>>1085602
More like they want to get everything.
>>
>>1085615
Well, Tsuki did mention that he can see through his puppets.

>>1085623

Is trying for the golden ending a bad thing?

Also, what's with all the (1)s out of nowhere? Did someone link from the qtg or something?
>>
>>1085815
>Is trying for the golden ending a bad thing?

Can't always get what you want.
>>
>>1085831
We can try though. It's not like we wrote in the option of trying to convince Toneri.
>>
>>1085837
You know what'd be good ending?

Convincing Kaguya she needs to let this world be. She's got a whole mother complex going on, and if we convince her o the whole 'If you love someone let it go' thing, she might just up sticks and leave without any sort of final boss fight.

Which will confuse the shit out of EVERYONE
>>
>>1085837
Just kill him.
>>
>>1085837
>>1085853

Kill the wabbits.
>>
>>1085852
That's actually what the moonfags are angling for while the 4beastfags think its too dangerous and want to cut ties with her.

To clarify, she wrote the note in her blood. Toneri (as per the movie) can see chakra just fine without eyes, and can do some weird shit with his chakra to have a sort of blindsense.

tldr, Kishimoto bullshit. Tsuki's blood has traces of her chakra, meaning her could read it.
>>
>>1085909
>her could read it
Really rejuvenated those writing skills after a good night's rest, huh, Wargle?
>>
>>1086066
Toneri confirmed for reverse trap.
>>
>>1085865
Killing the rabbits has too high risks for what we're trying to accomplish, with as shit as our rolls have been, getting beaten is very real, plus if they get to Kaguya remains we're fucked; even if we do succeed when we eventually fight Kaguya in the end game she'll focus on us entirely because, y'know, we slaughtered her followers'

It just makes things harder for us then they need to be

So is the MC going yuri or het? We're talking about this quest sorta in /qtg/ and I want an explanation por favor.
>>
>>1092300
It's been firmly established since very early on that she's straight, by the preference of the regulars. Wargle also would prefer for her to remain straight, due to something something not liking the cliche of strong female friendships having to be romantic love.

One of the drawfags does like doing yuri of her, but that doesn't reflect on canon Tsuki, as much as /u/ wishes it would.
>>
>>1092374
Thanks senpai.

I might actually read this quest. Who knows.

I'm a drawfag and i've drew Tsuki taking all the dicks and one pic of her and her mom she never met banging but that's because i'm a waste of life and can somewhat draw. I never post because it'd derail a thread and/or cause a shitstorm for "why is the art not better?", "Draw her banging X" and so on...

Someday I might Do a strawpoll for lewd requests.
