You are Captain Kusajishi Riku, a shinigami who just can't seem to stop stumbling on new and disturbing problems.

The Soul Society is expanding? That's not the answer you expected, but it does make a certain amount of sense given what you know about what happened with Hell. Specifically, it reminds you of Kaoru's description of it: of Hell having been “pushed” rather than “pulled”. If other planes are expanding as well, or else interacting with one another due to what's happening in the Soul Society, it makes sense that not only would there eventually be sporadic cases of Hell crossing over with other planes but all of the planes crossing over with each other. This must have just happened to be the first time you've caught it.

You exchange a worried glance with Yoruichi. “We... shouldn't let anyone see that just yet.”

“I gotta make a call,” she sighs, quietly casting Kakushitsuijaku and kneeling with her palm placed flat on the ground. You're only privy to her half of the conversation, but you can more or less fill in the gaps with your imagination.

“So you're sure about this?”

“Can you produce a summary statement? Easy to digest, as little technical nonsense as you can get away with?”

“Okay, I get it.”

“Well, can you do anything to fix it in the next twelve hours?”

“So it does us no good to release the information now, and before you say it yes, I know I'm suggesting we sit on crucial information. But all of our Captains need a break, and right now they're getting it. So let Shunsui and the Central 46 know after you've taken some time to mull over the details and write a full report.”

“Hey, come on now. There's a reason you trust me with these sorts of decisions. Have I ever led you wrong?”

“That time didn't count.”

Yoruichi frowns. “Neither did that one.”

“... what was that? You're breaking up. I... I can't... hello? Hello? Are... Kisuke?”

Then she abruptly releases the spell. “If he asks we were going through a tunnel or something.”

“That's how I remember it,” you shrug. “Let's try and put on a show of calm, right?”

“We're Captains, acting is in our job description,” Yoruichi agrees.

The universe is slowly ending, and yet when you return to the beach you'd be forgiven for thinking that nothing had happened. Halibel watches in quiet amusement as Neliel starts trying to make her own sandcastle next to Menoly and Lilynette... much more solidly-built, but really little more than a squared-off tower. It seems like she can't figure out what to do with it next, while its neighbor has evolved into a sprawling pile of crooked towers and crisscrossing walls. It's almost like none of the builders has ever actually seen a castle before.

Of course you can't help but spare Shunsui a glance. He seems to actually be having a good time, and after the emotional roller coaster he's been on for the last few weeks you figure he deserves it more than most. The death of his mentor, the loss of his closest friend, his rise to the position of Head Captain, the revelation that his former Lieutenant Lisa was alive and well... he's had precious little to be happy about, but plenty of work to distract himself with. And come tomorrow he'll have one more thing on his plate.

Would you want to know? Would you rather be surprised with news this bad, or would you rather have a few hours to come to terms?

Shunsui finishes telling Starrk a joke and turns laughing to face you, even as Nanao rests her face in her palm in disbelief at the punchline. He notices that your eyes have lingered just a little too long, and his brow furrows at you in silent curiosity.

>Let him know that Kisuke will have something to report tomorrow, suggest he take the day to relax.
>Tell him, quietly of course, what Kisuke has suggested is going on. He should be warned.

You approach him, your face as passive as you can keep it in an attempt to disguise the seriousness of what you've just found out. Shunsui sets aside his small cup and crosses a leg.

“Something the matter, Captain Kusajishi?” he asks, his tone even and his words direct despite the blush of drunkenness already creeping into his cheeks. “You seem like your mind's somewhere else right now, like you're just not quite committed to this whole relaxation exercise.”

“Kisuke's going to have something important to report,” you admit quietly, watching your son sneak up on your daughter with his eyes exposed like an alligator. “We were just consulting on when to bring it up, decided it wasn't exactly pressing.”

“Rangiku was right,” he sighs, “you really don't like taking breaks from the action, do you?”

“Not really. These days I'm at my happiest when I'm getting something done,” you explain with a shrug. “You can thank Aizen for that... back when I was a Lieutenant I had no problem spending an afternoon doing nothing in particular.”

“Well, consider this an order from the Head Captain,” Shunsui counters, leaning back into his canvas chair. “At least for the rest of the day, stop doing that.”

“No promises, sir,” you try and joke.

“I mean it.”

After reassuring Shunsui that you're planning to spend the rest of the day relaxing, he allows you to leave. Of course, you made no promises as to how you would relax...

You could swim in the lake with your kids, maybe catch up with Gin, or perhaps finish cooking with the Shibas. You haven't seen Miyako recently at all, at least not since shortly after Ukitake's condition deteriorated after the loss of the divine presence that was keeping him alive. There are also two arrancar here who to the best of your knowledge have never unwound before, and who you honestly can't say you know anything about. Maybe getting to know them a little more personally will ease some of the friction there, left over from the hostile situations in which you captured them.

And then, there's Unohana. She promised you a match.

>Captain Unohana
>>
You're still not one hundred percent sure what to make of this new Unohana, and so you join her and her Lieutenant as they discuss volleyball of all things.

“I am certain we could play doubles,” Unohana insists quietly, her voice genuinely warm in a way that still catches you off guard sometimes. That's especially true given the way you remember meeting her all those years ago, before you knew anything about your history. “Your long arms would certainly be use.”

“Captain!” Isane protests quietly, looking rather sheepish about it at the same time. “My height is no joking matter!”

“I am quite serious,” Unohana persists. “I believe you would be excellent at it... wouldn't you agree, Lady Riku?”

“Good reach, long stride,” you muse. “That or basketball.”

“Now there's an idea.”

“I'm actually here to issue a polite challenge,” you admit, pointing your thumb over your back at a number of watermelons lying on a low bench near where Kūkaku is doing wonderful things to a rack of ribs. “I understand watermelon smashing is something of a tradition with kids these days... suikawari I think it's called?”

“Not a challenge for a Captain I fear,” Unohana smiles happily, “though I assume you have a plan to make it more interesting?”

“It could be a kenjutsu competition.”

After a few moments, Unohana's calm smile widens into a genuine and somewhat intimidating grin. “Now there's an idea!”

After setting up a trio of melons balanced precariously on low bamboo poles, and in the process attracting a rather large crowd, Unohana proceeds to swiftly draw Minazuki and cleave through all three in a perfectly smooth draw. The halves cling together, only offset my a centimeter or so each along straight, perfect lines, and your fellow Captain offers her blade to Shunsui to examine.

“Not a drop of juice on it!” he exclaims, and based on what you saw it's no surprise. The speed and force were phenomenal, and her technical execution was beyond critique.

How are you going to upstage that?

>Match her performance exactly, for starters. Milk this for all it's worth.
>Draw two swords in one movement, cutting two melons at the same time.

You quietly retrieve Tenkotsuki from the small wooden building nearby where she sits next to a number of other familiar zanpakuto. Kobara no Tachi, the living embodiment of your rage and aggression, you leave where she sits: somehow you feel like Rosa wouldn't want you to use her blade for something so flippant, while Tenkotsuki realizes that this is a matter of pride.

The kodachi rests peacefully at your hip, detached since you are still wearing a swimsuit at the moment and have nowhere to tuck it into. You could try a two-step iai technique, or perhaps simply resort to one-upping Unohana in the most literal sense. But that would be boring, and boring a fellow master of the sword who's expressed an interest in your ability would be the worst sort of impression to make.

There is that...

With a smile, you push your thumb against the back of Tenkotsuki's cross guard.

“Sorry, Tenko,” you apologize quietly. “You're going for a bit of a ride!”

The pressure is almost instantaneous, a flick of your thumb propelling your zanpakuto from her sheath like a bolt from a crossbow that flies pommel-first into the point where watermelon meets pole. As Tenkotsuki turns a lazy arc you use hirenkyaku to catch up and grasp her hilt firmly with both hands, pointed at your target in a stance based on the classic 'hirazuki' thrust invented by Hijikata, before launching into Okita's unique twist on the move.

The first two strikes are for the shoulders: the target's right first, closing out a parry to the right side of your own body, then shifting your hand position just after your point makes contact to flip the blade over as you continue the thrust, changing the target to the target's left shoulder. Then you pull your own arms back as you step past the watermelon, simulating a beheading slash that you draw through fruity flesh as though it were a man's neck and your third choice of targets.

Not quite in the same instant as so many claim, but if properly deployed it'd be difficult if not impossible to block or avoid all three of the strikes coming in quick succession. And therein lies what gives it mythical status: it takes a truly exceptional swordsman to change the angle of their attack not once but twice during the attack, and while normally it might not end in complete slices of the watermelon the force of your strike and your skilled reiatsu control ensure that the first two splits propagate as if you'd cleaved straight through with normal slashes.
>1/2
>>
>>1072848
The watermelon's juices are already soaking into the sand as you turn to observe the effect, having split in five pieces: the first slash cut the lower left third or so of the melon away while the second split the remainder in half right up to the rupture left by the first. The finishing blow cut through the two thirds that were already split by the second strike, each cut remarkably clean given how they all formed.

As for the reactions, it's mostly shock on the part of anyone who didn't see each step of the process individually. The Lieutenants and some of the less extensively-trained Arrancar probably only saw a single fluid movement, which is the clearest indicator that you did it right. Gin however seems shocked because he managed to keep track of each step, given how his eyes are less narrow than they usually are. As for Unohana, she seems remarkably calm about the whole thing.

“So that was the Mumyo-ken I've heard about?” she asks, coming closer to hand over your sheath and examine the watermelon. “So much power from the glancing blows as well... truly impressive. In fact given my inexperience with hirazuki I doubt I could perform it myself.”

“It's two possible replacements,” you explain, “so it's not even really intended to make three cuts at the same time. But for us Captains, it's possible to do so without compromising each of the individual strikes' lethality.”

You sheath Tenkotsuki, but you notice that Unohana's left thumb is brushing idly against Minazuki's guard. “I still wish to fight you. More now than before, in fact.”

“Eh, what the hell,” you shrug. “Let's just do it now.”

Yoruichi, who until this point has been watching with general amusement, balks at the notion. “Seriously? Here and now?”

“Seriously,” you nod before turning to Unohana. “You realize that if you fail to hold back properly and maim me you're not leaving here alive, right? That even if it's by mistake someone's going to kill you on the spot for it?”

“I could see that being the most likely outcome, yes,” Unohana nods calmly. “Please understand, it was not my intention to kill you. I have not been the Kenpachi for centuries, and do not intend to take up the mantle again.”

“I do know that,” you agree. “But I also know that you've got a certain sort of instinct that isn't as easily given away as a title, an instinct you're allowing yourself to tap into again for the first time since before I became a Captain. I don't expect perfection, both in the sense of fairness to you and caution for myself.”

“I understand your concern,” Unohana sighs. “Very well. In an attempt to alleviate that concern, I suggest we limit ourselves to kenjutsu. No full-force zanjutsu or hakuda from either of us. Acceptable?”

You nod, accepting her terms. “Shurikenjutsu is out as well I take it? Since there's not exactly anywhere for us to hide daggers anyway?”

“If you're going to say that, it must also apply to your own kogai,” Retsu grins, her right hand resting on Minazuki's hilt. “Agreed?”

You shrug before readying yourself to draw Tenkotsuki. “You got me the kogai are out too.”

“Yoruichi, if you don't mind?”

She rolls her eyes, then removes the pin from her hairpiece. With a gentle underhand movement she tosses it into the air in a high arc, and your eyes register its eventual return to earth...

The two of you draw and close with each other quickly, but the one thing you misjudged was the reach of her blade. She launches her strike just a little bit before you do, forcing you to change the angle of your sheath and draw defensively at the last possible second. Then, as you part, it happens. Of all the dirty tricks, you find sand in your eyes. Even though you manage to resist the urge to clear your vision she has you distracted just long enough to launch a strike at your right shoulder.

Though you parry it, the sound of the impact is wrong: you realize too late that while you were blinded she switched her sword into her left hand and swung at you with her sheath. Minazuki's point is now trained at your belly.

“One point to me, I believe,” Unohana smiles.

Neliel of all people can't seem to tolerate what she just saw. “That's a dirty trick! Is that how all shinigami fight, with no regard for propriety or honor? Some warriors!”

“Any advantage in a fight is fair game,” Unohana counters, never for a moment taking her eyes off you. “She left herself open for something so simple in the way she lowered her head just before we parted. I expected a little better than that honestly, though I suspect her difficult footing has something to do with why that opportunity appeared.”

“It's been too long since someone punished me properly for losing my footing in soft sand,” you grumble. “I think since I was a Lieutenant.”

“It's because nobody else is quick enough to take advantage of an opening that brief,” Yoruichi shrugs. “And I haven't seen you do it in years. I'm just surprised as Captain Unohana is.”

“So we all agree, we're surprised,” you sigh. “Sorry about that, Retsu. Let's try that again, I'll try and put in a better showing.”

“I would like that,” Unohana agrees. “I know that was far from your best... truth be told even I was moving a bit more slowly than I expected.”

Well, after that brief embarassment you decide to go back to basics with simple kenjutsu.

Tenkotsuki swings up from your right hip, then across from the left, both strikes sliding off of Minazuki's blade as Retsu carefully parries each with minimal movement. She's remarkably sparing in her movements, economical and direct to the point of almost being predictable. Then she swings upwards to disrupt your attacks and place her sword in a tonbogiri stance, bringing it down on empty air as you sidestep.

“Very good,” she acknowledges as her follow-up swing meets your blade. “But basic, and honestly rather boring.”

“Thought I'd keep it simple,” you respond, bringing your own blade downwards towards her neck in a flowing ryūto parry. “Work our way up.”

“You were judging my responses,” she counters.

“Possibly.”

Retsu takes a single flash-step back and lowers her blade. “So have you learned enough.”

You resheath Tenkotsuki. “Want to see?”

“Possibly,” she smiles.

With a speed you find almost hard to believe Unohana crosses the space between you, not with shunpo but with the smooth, almost gliding footwork of a true kenjutsu master. Her first strike is simultaneous to her first step into your space and slides smoothly off your own blade as you raise it to parry and counter, Tenkotsuki wheeling freely in a fast arc above your head and slicing through the air towards her right shoulder. She ducks under your swing and aims her own weapon at your ribs, but you're able to adjust your own swing and meet her sword with a resounding clash of steel against steel.

You scowl at Retsu, and a brief moment of eye contact tells you that she's just as aware as you how awkward a position that last exchange left you in. So you both withdraw your blades and attack with renewed force, diagonal slashes meeting and sliding against each other as you each refuse to yield even so much as a centimeter of ground to the other.

Pushing with your whole body you use all the power you can reasonably muster to probe Retsu's guard and stance for weakness, shifting your balance and the weight of your force to provoke minute, near-perfect responses from your opponent. The deadlock is only broken when Retsu suddenly yields, using the split-second you're off balance to grab you by the arm and throw you over her hip in an instant. Even as you crash to the ground you roll out and onto your feet, and by the time your opponent can follow up you've turned to sweep her falling blade away to your right.

With a grin you check your own swing, bringing your right elbow in to your ribs and lining up for a powerful flat thrust. For just an instant you can see Retsu's eyes widen before she pushes off her toes and into the blind spot to your left, just in time for your weapon to shoot past her... more like a ballista bolt than a sword. But her response is one you're already familiar with, and as you shift your weight and raise your left hand you're able to disrupt her inevitable attempt at a riposte with a palm strike to Minazuki's hilt. Your back foot becomes your lead foot in an instant as you pivot, and relaxing your shoulder and turning your wrist puts your weapon back in line with her torso.

Then it's your turn to be surprised, as Retsu does what nobody aside from Yoruichi has ever had the guts to do in the face of your hirazuki.

She steps into it.

Her left wrist makes contact with the spine of Tenkotsuki's blade as you drive forward with your right foot and she frees her sword for the finishing blow, but if she thinks you're out of options she's rudely corrected by your own last gamble. You kick off with your left foot, following through with your momentum and turning the missed lunge into a flying knee to the gut that sends Retsu reeling backwards.

“Your style is just as eclectic as mine,” you sigh, the general understanding being that you've won that exchange... but only just. Had you not both been actively avoiding deadly blows it's difficult to tell which way things might have gone. But significantly, you get the feeling that short of actually trying to kill you Retsu was fighting to the best of her abilities this time. “Jigen-ryu's high stances and strikes with Sōsuishi-ryu's grappling techniques? The older forms of both too if I'm not mistaken.”

“To have performed tai sabaki so swiftly out of ukemi with a sword in hand... do you have some familiarity with Sōsuishi as well?” Retsu asks.

You shake your head. “Tennen Rishin-ryu has a grappling curriculum... or, it had one before its core members were decimated. The rest of it I owe to Yoruichi's training.”

“I see, so it was your hakuda training that allowed you to recover so quickly,” she nods thoughtfully. “I'd love to see those techniques at their full power some day, though I fear my own skills with hakuda would be no match.”

“Really my own aren't that spectacular either,” you openly admit. “Yoruichi's considered a prodigy for a reason, she'd be the better person to show you what truly top-level hakuda looks like.”

“One, don't sell yourself short,” Yoruichi insists as she steps up to your side. Unohana's stance relaxes, likely signaling that she's satisfied with what she's seen. “You were good enough more than a hundred years ago to help me complete shunkō, that places you in the top ten hakuda masters in history at worst. Of the living Captains I'd say you're second, with Suì Fēng probably being a tie.”

“Yeah, a distant second,” you remind her. “You're still the master, I'm still the student.”

“And two?” Yoruichi continues. “Don't drag me into this, I'm not fighting Captain Unohana for fun.”

“So, how did you feel about that exchange Captain Kusajishi?” Retsu asks curiously. “I hope you got as much from it as I did.”

Aren't pretty much all Arrancar zanjutsu-focus by virtue of their nature? The only exception I can think of is Apacci; the rest all seem to rely on their abilities.
>>
>>1073435
Nel used a lot of hand to hand techniques in canon.
>>
>>1073441
As did Ulquierra, but in both cases it felt more like a reliance on strong hierro rather than actual technique.

Nel is also a way better swordswoman than a brawler.
>>
>>1073441
there's also her signature ability to nom kido and cero spells into her mouth and then spit them back out. Which is rather odd since her release turns her into a centaur girl.
>>
>>1073435
Other than Ceros and that beast thingie, I honestly don't think I've ever seen Mila Rose and Sung-Sun use any other abilities. So an edge in their blade skills might just be enough to tip fights in their favor.
>>
>>1073474
Well Mila Rose uses a rhomphaia while Sun Sung uses an Urumi. It's gonna be hard for them to improve upon their zanjutsu.
>>
>writing
>>1073474
I can tell you for sure that Sung-Sun definitely has a special ability in SSQ, and it's pretty fucking brutal.
>>
>>1073489
Then what about Mila Rose? If Sun Sung has a special ability, and Apacci's specialization is firing and using different kinds of Cero in a Hollow-stylized version of Kido, what does Lion girl have that makes her feel special and confident?
>>
>>1073489
Other than the cloaking bit she did that one time in canon too? Well, I'm looking forward to that then.
>>
>>1073489
is it forcing a sun into existence after she has sung?
>>
>>1073474
Problem is, many arrancar lose their weapons when they release, so it makes more sense for them to focus on natural weapons rather than zanpakuto. I mean, by the time you need an edge, you might as well just release.

There's a few exceptions. Nnoitra favored his "sword" and didn't release unless he had to. Mila Rose retains a sword in her released form, so she can probably swing one pretty well. Halibel could use zanjutsu with her shark fin thing, though she seems to prefer ranged attacks, as would anyone who can control water better than Worm's Leviathan.

Nel should probably focus on lancing rather than swording.
>>
>>1073509
Nel would actually be more suited to cavalry tactics, Jousting, and horseback fighting.
Halibel would probably learn some German half-hand-swording and overall practice with two-handed great swords.
Mila Rose would probably learn best with knife fighting.
>>
>>1073509
Could equip her with that guaranteed victory spear thing once she releases. Should make short work of spoony.
>>
>>1073529
the Hapsburg Lance or the Lance of Longinus? Anon pls. Although that could work if we're going a hit&run recon on Aizen's base of operations.
>>
>>1073527
Mila rose is the lion, not the deer. Her sword is somewhat big for a knife.

You're right about Nel, though her speed means traditional cavalry tactics are probably irrelevant. Even unreleased, her sonido was to Nnoitra what Riku's hirenkyaku was to Byakuya when we rolled a nat 30 that one time. Released, she could probably match or exceed Yoruichi in pure speed.

Still, it makes more sense for Yoruichi to use the spear, because she can summon it out of nowhere and exactly as the situation demands it, whereas if you give it to Nel Aizen would see it coming a mile away and immediately work out a counter because he's essentially Darkseid with all the abilities of Batman, Doctor Fate and the Flash on top of his own.

“It honestly just made me more curious about how others fight,” you admit. “I've learned a lot and synthesized my own style, but in a sense I also stopped learning a long time ago. Maybe it was a mistake.”

“A feeling I'm familiar with,” Unohana admits, sheathing her own zanpakuto. “It's especially common when one hands off knowledge to another, or so I've found. My understanding is that you have trained several talented pupils in the last century?”

“And a lot of them are still fighting at my side,” you nod. “I'm proud of their accomplishments and honored by their loyalty.”

Unohana gestures for you to sit on a log at the edge of the woods surrounding the lake, and after spreading a pair of towels the two of you sit to watch the others get on with their recreation.

“I've never told you about the time when I was First Kenpachi, have I?”

You shake your head. “No. We don't really talk much, Retsu.”

“To both our loss I fear. I was the worst sort of killer then, terribly bloodthirsty with a skill with the blade to match. The name I took for myself, Yachiru, was a boast that I was versed in many schools of kenjutsu, mostly learned from those who I had killed. Assimilated into my repertoire while their original masters were forgotten to time.”

“When I wanted something I killed. When I was denied I killed in vengeance. When I got what I wanted I killed to cover my tracks. When I was bored I killed for sport. That is the meaning of the name Kenpachi, the sort of unending bloodlust that I voluntarily retired to the Second Kenpachi.”

“You would not make a good Kenpachi,” she concludes, watching her fellow shinigami with a distant expression. “But perhaps you would make a good Yachiru. The Kenpachis are united by their untamed bloodlust and love of battle, of killing. But since my generation they have lacked discipline to match, to truly temper their bloodlust into a useful tool. While your lust for blood is strong I understand your pride in technique is what drives you to improve your kenjutsu, and yet your bloodlust is tempered by proper discipline. In a sense you have reminded me of what Kenpachi Yachiru could have aspired to, had she not the heart of a criminal.”

You know how people get less good at learning things the older they become? To what extent does that apply to shinigami? Because even at a reduced rate, someone like Unahana should be completely incapable of change, unless the reishi age-stopping thing also applies to brain matter.

>>
>>1073629
I never said it'd be easy, but I also doubt it's impossible. Just very hard.

Also, both have admitted they've stopped learning, but expressed interest in expanding their skills. Ergo, they've already implicited admitted they're still capable of learning new things. So learning new things to change themselves is on the table.

Won't be an easy road, but it is there. Maybe learn the sword equivalent of tai chi, see if it can change Unohana's disposition. Or learn actual tai chi. Something similar, to try and change who they are by the skills they acquire and practice.
>>
>>1073629
I'll rule real quickly on this before I continue writing. Age-related changes to the brain slow drastically with most high-ranking shinigami, to the point where for all practical purposes it ceases entirely. Draw the distinction between that and the Sternritter.

Dementia and other actual disorders with a genetic component/risk factor are rare, but still occur.

“And so where does that leave you and Zaraki?”

“By the time I became a Captain, I was so used to killing that I practically heard challenges in my sleep. Then one day in the Rukongai, I heard a voice telling me to draw my sword. I did so of course and turned to find a child.”

“At first I refused to take him seriously. Then the little bastard stabbed me in the neck!”

“I take it you didn't like that?” you ask with an amused grin.

“Not at all. I beat him nearly to death before I realized that his strength had dropped so dramatically after stabbing me. He had adjusted his strength through the course of the fight to match mine, without even realizing it.”

“So that's why you were so relieved that he was receiving training,” you guess. “If he learns Shikai he'll have no choice but to grow stronger even if he doesn't have a strong enemy to push him.”

“Exactly. Though I must confess I do still feel as though I have an obligation.”

“Not to fight him I hope,” you shake your head. “If you force him to suddenly fight at your level to defend himself... he'll kill you, Retsu. You were Kenpachi once, you know that.”

“I do,” she agrees. “I also know that I have a more important obligation: to the Soul Society. Of the two I consider the latter to take priority, as I always have.”

You have one final question for Retsu before you return to the rest of your peers. “So do you have any advice for how I can prepare for Aizen?”

Retsu just laughs softly. “You and I are Captains, Lady Riku. We are beyond the advice of anyone but ourselves, so keep your own council on how to improve. And if you can't improve yourself enough, then do what all Captains do. Rely on your allies and subordinates.”

“You have many of those behind you. You're extremely fortunate.”

Food is ready not long after your discussion with Unohana, and you find yourself sitting among the Shiba clan. Gin and Rangiku sit a short distance away, the latter still wet and grumpy after Gin pulled her into the water like an eyeless albino crocodile, and Yoruichi is at the opposite end of the table due to her status as a Clan head. She really looks like she'd rather be at the same end as you and the Shibas though, instead of sitting next to Shunsui and Nanao who constantly argue back and forth across her. It's playful arguing of course, but Yoruichi still seems unamused.

“So how have things been, Captain Kusajishi?” Miyako asks carefully, passing you a roasted sweet potato.

“Ease off with the formality,” you reprimand her softly. “We may not have been born into the family but we're in it now.”

“Sorry,” she apologizes with a shallow bow. “I'm just not used to all this still. Kaien's encouragement made dealing with noble matters much easier.”

That's depressing, you think to yourself, suddenly having been reminded of Kaien's officially unexplained disappearance. “It's been okay. Saw Isshin earlier, his entire family's doing well. Their youngest daughter just started seeing spirits.”

“That's kinda not what they wanted, I thought,” Kūkaku observes, passing you a small cup of shochu. “She gonna be okay?”

“She'll have the best possible instruction and guidance,” you assure her. “She'll be better than okay.”

“I wish we could just pop off and see him whenever we felt like it,” Kaoru sighs. “I miss Isshin a lot.”

“We all do,” her older cousin agrees. “But he made his choice and he's happy. We should be happy for him, that's how being a Shiba works.”

“I know. Still miss him though.”

“All the same, we're not permitted to travel around freely.”

“I'll arrange it, make excuses, or whatever,” you declare. “You're gonna go see Isshin tomorrow and that's all there is to it.”

“But...”

“Shut it, sis,” you insist, rounding on Kūkaku. “I'm telling you I'll handle the details. You deserve to see your family, and I doubt the Central 46 will approve the return of a Captain who resigned his post, so there's only one way this is gonna happen.”

Your adoptive sister shuts her eyes. “Alright, I get you. But if this comes back to bite you I'm not letting you take the fall.”

“How do you intend to 'make this work', Riku?” Kaoru asks. “I'm a Captain too you know. I've tried.”

“Nobody cares when I travel on my own initiative,” you explain. “It comes with the ability to rip holes in the universe at will, they won't question it for an hour or so.”

“So your plan is to just get away with it?”

“That's usually my fallback, yeah,” you shrug. “It's worked so far.”

“No wonder Kisuke hates you,” Kaoru shakes her head.

“Speaking of love hate relationships, how are things with the other families?” you ask, opening the question to the entire end of the table. “Last I checked there was some tension with the other houses?”

“Ever since the Ryodoji were banished there's been an obsession with Clan alliances,” Kaoru sighs. “I don't even know what they did to earn that enmity in the first place, but it's still a fear to this day that one or more clans might make a secret alliance to gain more power for themselves.”

“They allied themselves with the Quincy a thousand years ago,” Kūkaku explains, causing some heads even down the table to turn. “The standing of a Noble Clan is such that they could not simply be executed, so exile was the only option which remained. Except among Clan heads that's not common knowledge.”

“I don't see any relevance to us,” Kaoru shrugs.

“Some people think we're trying to do the same thing with the Shihōin,” her cousin replies, giving you a knowing glance. “Which of course we're not... isn't that right?”

“In any official sense yes, that's right,” you nod. “Doing things purely for the sake of power and influence just isn't my spiel anyway.”

“Other people don't know that,” Kaoru points out.

“And other people don't know the nature of my connections to the Shihōin, either,” you counter. “Yeah, I was Yoruichi's Lieutenant for eighty years and we're still friends, but beyond that our private lives are nobody's business but our own.”

“For some that's close enough for discomfort,” Kūkaku sighs. “Just be careful sis, I know you know how to do that when you put your mind to it.”

“You two have complimentary tattoos,” Miyako mutters, peering at you from behind a furrowed brow. “A sun and a moon...”

You laugh loudly, grabbing a nearby bottle and pouring it into your cup. “Who wants more sake?”

“That's shoyu, sis,” Kaoru snorts into her sleeve.

“Why is this even here!?”

Kūkaku on the other hand frowns to herself. “That reminds me, I wonder what ever happened to the Ryodoji?”

“I'm sure Yoruichi and I could look into the archival records,” you shrug. “But in terms of actually locating them, Kisuke's probably your guy.”

“I'll put in a request,” Kaoru nods.

Long after the sun has gone down, after the fire on the beach starts to go cold, Captains and Lieutenants start to trickle back towards the Seireitei in twos and threes. You say goodbye to the Shibas and Gin in particular, the former with the reminder that you'll be seeing them tomorrow, and to Yoruichi who makes a show of heading off for her own Division's barracks despite the fact that you know she's not going to be sleeping there tonight.

Finally, with a bright moon high in the night sky and a slightly frosted tinge to the air, you arrive at the Ninth Division where your guards welcome your party warmly. Kai and Starrk have both had way too much to drink and so they turn in immediately, while Halibel and her trio of Beasts initially see to returning Neliel and Menoly to their cells.

You stop them before they do so.

“Tomorrow morning I want to meet with the two of you,” you tell them. “What I saw today was hopeful, I want to see about moving you two out of those cells and into proper barracks.”

“I'm not sure what to say,” Menoly admits, while Neliel remains silent.

“Don't have to say anything,” you shrug. “I'll also want to see what each of you can do in terms of fighting... thank me, curse me, but do it after all is said and done so you won't regret doing it.”

“I understand,” Neliel nods sternly. “I look forward to the chance.”

“Get some sleep,” you nod, sparing Halibel a reassuring glance and receiving an all-too-rare smile in exchange.

It must be going on two or three in the morning by the time you pass out.

Morning comes uncomfortably early, with an insistent pounding on the front door of your private home.

“Rangiku!” you groan loudly. “Get the door, I'm not ready for morning yet.”

After a few moments you hear her reply. “Messenger from the Central 46, says it's urgent!”

“It's always urgent with them!”

“He has a sealed letter!” Rangiku shouts back.

Grumbling all the while, you roll out of bed and throw on the closest bits of clothing on hand. Eclectic but the fashion police won't be patrolling inside your house at half seven in the morning.

“What is it!?” you bark at the man, who visibly recoils at your sharp tone. “I've been trying to get some damn sleep!”

He hands you the paperwork, which you tear open... to find that it's an arrest warrant for Kuchiki Rukia in connection with an attack on Head Captain Kyōraku Shunsui late last night.

“This is a joke,” you frown, staring at the messenger.

“I'm afraid not, ma'am.”

The scar can't be healed because it's technically not a "wound", it's something that Rosa Rosette got when she died and that Riku started off with. The latter point is why Orihime can't reverse it to a point where it never existed, because it's existed as long as Riku has.

Also, in SSQ Orihime's powers have a time limit. She can't reverse the condition of an object to a state which existed before her powers did.

>>1074493

>>
>>1074601
the problem for us is that Orihime has NEVER seen the face of Yamamoto ever. She probably doesn't know what he looks like aside from his photos and what not even through She got her powers before Yamamoto roasted himself.
>>
>>1074548
Wait a fucking minute......Couldn't Orihime heal OMG?
>>
>>1074548
Have we even rounded up the rest of the Regai?
>>
>>1074623
Why would that matter? She tried to "heal" Riku's scar despite having never seen her without it. I mean, she's reversing literal ghosts in time to undo shit that happened to them. None of what she does makes any goddamn sense.
>>
>>1074662
Other Divisions have been handling that peacefully. The Ninth can't do everything all the time all across the Seireitei, and the Reigai are coming in one at a time.
>>
>>1074654

Posible but risky. She could reverse him to a healthier state but he would still be old.

Besides Aizen would just kill him a few threads later even if we got a perfect roll.
>>
>>1074685
Are the Reigai coming in and surrendering peacefully? And did Kisuke give Shunsui the report on the results of us putting Reigai Yoruichi through the sim?
>>
>>1074685
To be fair, there's absolutely no real reason to assume that Mayuri doesn't have the ability to make Regai. The culprit had been in his division for decades, he could easily just be playing dumb.
>>
>>1074685

>>
>>1074548
Thanks for running. It's a pretty nice meaty update development-wise for a "beach episode".

Had to tap out again since the sun was already creeping up during the 2nd to the last part of Riku's conversation with Unohana.
>>
>>1074685
Did Retsu have fun in Riku's kenjutsu duel against her?
>>
>>1074729
Did we completely destroy whatshisface's mod soul? Also what happened to that machine that was going to merge the two of them and make them reasonably powerful?
>>
>>1074914
You mean Inaba? Yeah, we killed him. Inaba tried to kill Yoruichi and nearly did but Riku used the divine parts of her soul to retcon that shit and healed her back to full. Yoruichi then beheaded Inaba, and now we have his soul pill.
>>
>>1074729
Senna isn't a mod soul. She's memories. The villains of her movie are the exiled clan of nobles mentioned this thread, so something may happen to her pretty soon.
>>
>>1074982

>>
>>1074548
Damn, i missed the thread because i was sleeping.
What were everyone's reactions to our spar with unohana?

If we were fighting to the best of our ability, almost every movement should have been practically invisible to a lot of the people there, right?
That fight couldn't have lasted more than a few seconds, minus the talking.
>>
>>1074654
The problem is the amount of reiatsu involved and his current condition. Kisuke's not convinced she can do it and taking him out of stasis would kill him for sure.
>>1074705
They are, or at least the ones who have surrendered thus far have. Kisuke did in fact submit that report.
>>1074729
Rangiku is taking care to keep her well hidden, including from Riku. She's still alive.
>>1074807
At first she was disappointed, but then she started getting into it. That's what the crit ensured.
>>1074914
Yes and never existed. Some of the villains have been somewhat inspired by Riku's tendency for "organic" plans. Not a lot of complicated outside components like doomsday devices or plot rocks that could become points of failure.
>>1074938
In that case Riku overreacted. Yoruichi would have survived, she was just badly hurt.
>>1074982
When a movie or film character is introduced they'll have different motivations and sometimes different backstories than their original version. None of them are technically 'canon' anyway, so might as well take some liberty with them and change the story up.

Senna is a mod soul based on a shinigami. As for what that means for both of their characters and how that happened maybe some day you'll find out.
>>1075278
Since you were only fighting at full for sealed forms, everyone present could track some of your movements. Your hirenkyaku is difficult for anyone to follow, similar to how Yoruichi's is, but in this case it's your bladework that confounded a lot of people. Even to Shunsui it was a blur: only those whose movesets involve super-high-speed attacks, like Yoruichi and Gin, could see each movement clearly. Gin may even try to adapt the idea.
>>
>>1076955
Neat.
I'm really interested to know what they were thinking though, getting to see Kusajishi goddamn Riku and Unohana fuckmothering Retsu spar RIGHT in front of them.

>>1077015
There's a possibility some of them could be healed up, but it tends to take a while to earn that much trust. Dordoni in particular attacked Ichigo in canon right after getting healed.
>>
>>1076955
>Rangiku is taking care to keep her well hidden, including from Riku.

How come?
>>
>>1077023
We could start getting on good terms with them by telling them it's possible to heal their otherwise permanent wounds.
>>
>>1077026
Actually, couldn't inoue heal bambietta's arm as well?
Also, i wonder if we could like, "donate" our energy to inoue, to fuel OMG's revival.
>>
>>1077023
>Dordoni in particular attacked Ichigo in canon right after getting healed.
I was always unsure how much of that was a genuine attempt to beat him, and how much was to toughen Ichigo up. Some of what he says later seems to indicate that it was the later.
>>
>>1077023

Pffftahahahaha please tell me that was Gin!
>>
>>1077032

>>1077026

>>1077029
Also possible, though Bambi is kind of hard-headed about getting "too much" help and over-using Orihime's abilities is likely to draw unwanted attention. Aizen had a point in canon: that Orihime was considered enough of a threat for C46 and the Gotei 13 to warp their plans to fit her. And Aizen did the same, to his own ends.

Whether you really want to get her involved in that high a profile should be a carefully-considered question.

Yamada Hanatarō suddenly found himself nervous again.

It's his own fault really. Someone must have made a comment about the last time he was there that convinced Captain Unohana to send him back to handle the Ninth Division's infrastructural tasks. And so he's found himself ducking in and out of doorways to try and escape notice. Why does everyone around here have to be so scary? It's like they're real soldiers! A group of them pass and he ducks into a white-stuccoed storage room with a high round window and heavy wooden doors. Thank goodness they were open...

“What're you doing?”

A gravelly voice from behind sends Hanatarō leaping for cover behind a wooden crate. Its owner, a shaggy-haired man with chin whiskers stares at him questioningly. “You've got that sling around you... Fourth Division, right?”

“Yes!” he exclaims. “And... you are?”

“Starrk,” the stranger explains, turning away to rummage through a few boxes. “Ah, there we are!”

He produces a dusty bottle with illegible English lettering on its label, and within is a golden-amber liquid of some kind. He holds it out for you to grasp, and sets to work locating a pair of glasses.

“I knew she was keeping them here someplace,” he explains, without saying who either 'she' or 'them' are.

“Um... what exactly is this?” you ask tentatively.

The arrancar stares at you like you're the one who's crazy. “It's whiskey.”

“Whiskey?”

He nods, then repeats the word. “Whiskey.”

“What's it doing here?”

Starrk the arrancar sighs dramatically as you uncork the bottle, and he takes it to pour himself a small glass. “Whiskey came to Japan in 1923, courtesy of Taketsuru Masataka and his Scottish wife Rita. It first came to the Seireitei in the 40's, when Lady Riku and her brother Isshin took an interest in it... or so I'm told. This is a bottle from that first batch.”

“This whiskey is sixty years old?” Hanatarō blinks, not really believing his ears. “And it was made here?”

The arrancar swirls his glass, sniffing at the liquid inside. “Yeah, and Riku doesn't want me trying it. But since I'm feeling especially self-pitying...”

He takes a sip.

“Eh,” he mutters. “It's not bad, but it's kind of...”

“Strong?” the Fourth Division officer offers.

Starrk shakes his head. “Tame. None of the flavors really stand out.”

“Try some?”

“I... really don't think I should be here!” Hanatarō insists, looking for the exit. “Sorry, maybe later!”

“Yeah,” Starrk mutters, glancing down at the glass in his hand. “Maybe later.”

The Fourth Division officer manages to escape easily enough, if not gracefully, and slinks past the Captain herself as she seems to give orders to a digging team who are putting in a pond of some sort in the inner keep of the barracks. Eventually he takes refuge in a nearby garden... only to find an even more terrifying spectacle underway. He dives into a bush as a busty purple-haired woman in a Royal Guard haori meets with none other than the Executive of the Onmitsukidō.

“Ah, here you are little Lady Yoruichi!” the Royal Guard greets the Captain as the latter strikes a wooden post. “Hard at work?”

“Kirio,” Yoruichi grunts in acknowledgment, changing her stance and striking a series of wooden arms sticking from the training device in rapid succession. “I train a little every day.”

“I'd like to help,” Hikifune smiles, withdrawing a small black rubber ball from her sash. “I managed to snag one of Captain Urahara's inflatable gigai, and made a few modifications I want to test out.”

Yoruichi stops her exercises and wipes her brow. “Okay, I'm listening.”

“This gigai is based on our own servants,” she explains, near-instantly inflating the device and popping a small pill into its mouth. The figure has no real features to note, and takes a combat position. “It's trained in several styles of unarmed combat, and doesn't have pesky independent thoughts or feel pain.”

“Want to give it a try?”

Yoruichi looks it over appraisingly. “Captain-class reiatsu?”

Hikifune snaps her fingers, and Hanatarō silently reels from the force being released. Then, in just as bad a shock, Yoruichi immediately matches it. In a blindingly quick exchange the Captain blocks and strikes simultaneously, targeting the attacker's joints and pressure points. When the mannequin doubles over Yoruichi wraps her arm around its neck and pulls upward sharply, snapping its neck before dropping it to the ground in a lifeless heap.

“It's not particularly clever,” Yoruichi smirks, before glancing down as the mannequin rises from the ground. Its joints distend and then pop back in place one at a time until it stands ready to face her.

“Did I mention it can reassemble itself?” Kirio asks nonchalantly.

Instead of being intimidated, Yoruichi grins wildly.
>2/?
>>
>>1084791
>dropped my trip because /tg/ posting
The exchange that follows is even more visceral, starting with the sensation of Yoruichi's release of even more reiatsu.

“Shunkō!”

Pale yellow energy whips at the Captain's haori as she overwhelms the mannequin, each strike cracking bone while each block stops the incoming strikes cold one after the next. Then she begins the gruesome task of dismantling her mindless foe, using her fingers like claws to sever ligaments and tear deep rends with each movement. Finally after tearing the mannequin mostly to ribbons Yoruichi delivers a brutal strike with her foot to the side of its knee, shattering the joint, and palms its face.

“Tessho?” Hikifune asks after Yoruichi smashes the mannequin's head against the ground and sets to work clawing slowly at its torso like a cat. “Well-executed, as to be expected from the princess of the Shihōin.”

“See, without preservation instincts and creativity it's not a good sparring partner,” she explains, the rending damage from her fingertips outpacing the mannequin's regenerative abilities. “But you have made me an interesting scratching post, even if it is a little weird.”

“So, trespasser,” Yoruichi continues as the mannequin finally runs out of reiatsu and deflates. “Are you just going to sit there?”

But almost as soon as the words leave her mouth Hanatarō is already in full retreat. The aura around Yoruichi's body disperses, and she glances at Hikifune in confusion. “Did I say something wrong?”

The elder shinigami merely shrugs. “Seemed like the skittish sort.”

Back at the storehouse the young officer finds Starrk still sipping whiskey, but now accompanied by a slender woman in a sleeveless white haori. This isn't Rukia, he realizes that much immediately, so by process of elimination it must be Mirai.

“Back so soon?” Starrk cocks an eyebrow as Mirai sips gingerly at her own glass, sounding much happier than before. “I thought you were scared of me or something?”

“Can I have a glass too, please?”

“What's with the change of heart?” Starrk asks, though he pours the glass without complaint only to watch Hanatarō cough as he sips too quickly.

“I realized it was safer in here.”

Mirai shrugs before raising her glass. "To safety in numbers."

Very few in the Ninth's combat squads couldn't make a mid to low seated position in another Division, and the Squad leaders could each make 5th seat or higher if they tried. As for those in reserve, logistical positions, or in full-time printing jobs they tend to be weaker.

It's not that they're especially stronger on average than any other Division it's just that the floor is higher for active combat duty.

>It's not that they're especially stronger on average than any other Division it's just that the floor is higher for active combat duty.

Absolutely unacceptable!
9th division needs a full reformation immediately!

Every single man needs combat training.
There needs to be a lower limit on power and skill just to remain in 9th.
We should start holding weekly training sessions where the entire division, regardless of other duties, gets together and is trained by us personally, even if we do nothing else that day.
There should be a checklist of feats that you need to be capable of, like using a particular bakudo and hado, being capable of performing certain zanjutsu and such.
Severe punishments for dereliction of duty, everyone should be expected to maintain focus and keep their minds as sharp as their swords. Perhaps regular schooling and a new tradition of shogi as the 9th's official board game.

We approve everyone who joins the 9th personally, right?
There's no way we should be letting someone decide who gets in here without us.
Surely we make regular scouting missions to the training academy to pick off any promising students before the other captains get them, right?

We're basically the seireitei's military branch, there's no way this could be seen as acceptable! Aren't we ashamed at the state of our men?
We've got so much experience, we should have published a book by now.
"Zanpakuto and how they work: A captain's guide to gaming the system"
And shouldn't we have taught our commandos how to use shunko by now?
Even if they don't possess the skill yet, they should be working towards completing it!

>WE'RE NEVER GONNA BTFO AIZEN WITH WEAKLINGS LIKE THIS
>>
>>1087920
>Outwardly, something about duty and propriety. Inwardly,

Does the thought make her proud in a motherly sense?

>It's not that they're especially stronger on average than any other Division it's just that the floor is higher for active combat duty.
So then what's the Specialization and weaknesses of the 9th division overall? Better Tech, group cohesion, advanced army logistics, and fielding more active duty combat squads in exchange for lowered individual potential? What sort of niche/role would the 9th fulfill in a battlefield scenario? Logistics and frontline support?

>9th division needs a full reformation immediately!
to what? Shimigami Nazis? Anon pls, we fully reformed the division as soon as Riku got the captaincy. The 9th is already radical amongst the other divisions to the point where half the things they have is borderline illegal but they're able to get away with it because of technicalities! Like having Arrancar Allies!

>There needs to be a lower limit on power and skill just to remain in 9th.
9th division has one of the highest burnout rates among the 13 divisions. The burnout rate in and of itself is a "lower limit".

>Perhaps regular schooling
anon, they went through shimigami school in order to apply for a job at the 9th.
>a new tradition of shogi as the 9th's official board game.
Anon, you serious? 9th division members aren't that backwards! 9th division is the most "modernized" division among the 13 divisions. They field guns! They promote other hobbies to like Vidya gaems! Guitar! Gunpla modeling! or calligraphy! Some of them even play DnD!

>WE'RE NEVER GONNA BTFO AIZEN WITH WEAKLINGS LIKE THIS
We're not aiming to btfo aizen like that. We're ensuring Seireitei is better prepared to survive in surprise war scenarios.
>>
speaking of BTFOing Aizen, I'm looking forward to more of our Arrancar dunking on his.

In a sense, Unohana is kind of proud that he's becoming less pathetic.

Force size and organization is a tough sort of subject, since the databooks are a little screwy in that regard. Compare the figure of "just over 200" as the total size of each Division to the requirement that at least 200 Division members need to see you beat the Captain to become a Captain that way. It's not unreasonable to think that the whole unit has to turn out, but at the same time the rules for becoming a Captain seem to presume that a Division will have substantially more members than that. So an average Division has about 500 shinigami in SSQ, with most of those being combat and patrol troops and the other organizations like Kaoru's and Yoruichi's being smaller than that. The Ninth has 25 squads of 10 as its active duty roster, with 10 more squads held in reserve for training, low-risk assignments, and rotation. This is a lowish number because it's self-selecting: the 350 soldiers of the Ninth are seated-officer quality, while the average Division has some two hundred soldiers who are individually-wrapped snacks to anything much tougher than a regular hollow.

Then there's about a hundred and fifty soldiers in logistical, support, printing tasks, and even dedicated medical staff (not as good as the Fourth but still useful). Many of these were once solid fighters who have grown too old or been seriously wounded in action, which means the Ninth has the scariest chefs in the Seireitei for example.

In terms of burnout rates, it's not as bad as you'd think. There are a lot of injuries and deaths of course, but the Ninth is among the few Divisions that have a problem with its troops getting too old to fight.

Discounting the commandoes and higher units, how does the 9th stack up combat wise against other divisions?
>>
>>1088265
So to put it simply the 9th is basically the special forces division ala seals or green berets

>which means the Ninth has the scariest chefs in the Seireitei for example.
This amuses me greatly.

>Some grizzled grumpy bearded WWII veteran shinigamis yelling at customers from other divisions for disrespecting the food they cook.
>Some of them serve food in shinigami school. leads to inevitable cussing and rambling about how the youngsters have it easy
>muh "back in the war"
I wanna see an omake of some poor shinigami student being stuck with helping out a 9th division chef getting scared but inspired by the "war stories" the chef tells.

Wouldnt that be the 2nd squad? From what I remember they were the fully "haha time to operate" squad along with being soul society's officially sanctioned assassins.
>>
>>1089125
2nd Division more like Seireitei's Black Ops Division.
>>
>>1089125
They're straight up ninjas, Ninth is the tacticool division

I would argue that the best comparison is that the Napoleonic Imperial Guard. A formation of elite veteran troops that target the toughest enemies. Most modern Western militaries don't really have an equivalent, but the Iraqi republican guard is another good example.
>>
>>1088305
The Ninth would be able to handle Divisions with twice the manpower because their 250 frontline soldiers are extensively trained in more modern styles of engagement and their small units are designed explicitly to make as good use of the veterans' experience as possible.

>>1088332
Very much like Rangers in their roles and expected duties.

>BACK IN MY DAY WE ATE THE HOLLOWS AFTER WE KILLED 'EM!
>SPEAKING OF WHICH, I'D SUGGEST THE CHEF'S SPECIAL

The closest analogy is secret police. They're directly accountable to the Central 46 and have the ability to arrest anyone if ordered. The only thing that keeps them from going FULL Stasi is Yoruichi's oversight. The Central 46 gives her orders to assign to her subordinates, and sometimes she does actually reject the orders because it's either not clear that they followed protocol or a lesser sentence is technically acceptable.

That's one more source of political tension with certain Noble factions, and part of why a Shihouin-Shiba alliance is feared.

>One armed grizzled female veteran, her sword arm was nommed down to a stub at the elbow by a hollow during world war 1
>Burn scars on her face, looks like a scary mother comparable to an angry Captain Riku
>Makes a mean western breakfast and delivers them with the smile of a mother.
>No one dares to refuse her when she offers extra helpings.

Oh boy.... imagine the brick shitting, salt flooding, and flaming fallout when the C-46 and the nobles find out Yoruichi's a lesbian and married Riku FUCKING Kusajishi of all people.

Do you really think they don't already know or suspect that? They aren't that incompetent.

Who's stronger, gin or rangiku?
Gin's been on his own, but rangiku's been with us this whole time, and she's at least stronger than tosen was.
>>
>>1089432
they do suspect it, but it's not confirmed.
>>
>>1089571
It all depends. Gin would win the speed and agility contest hands down because of how Shinso behaves. Rangiku on the other hand is a pretty good dodge tank when she uses Haineko. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. But they will be a fucking menace when they decide to team-up.
>>
>>1089638
Plus her bankai is a lot like senbonzakura, but with more utility.
She's a LOT stronger than in canon, and gin probably is too.
I'd love to see an omake where they fight.
>>
>>1089571
Gin is better at direct attacks and mindgames. Rangiku is better at diversions and indirect/AoE attacks. Gin's reiatsu is a bit stronger. A fight between them depends on who releases Bankai first.

>>1089612
To be fair it's common knowledge in the C46 that something's going on there, just not that the thing going on is sex. The few people who care enough to realize that's a real possibility also choose not to share those thoughts.
>>
>>1089571
Gin wins a fight to the death, because lolshinso
