This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Chunin named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of trades skill set have brought you far. You're a Chunin of notable talent for your age. You're currently sparring with an fellow Leaf Shinobi named Roku. He nearly defeated you during the Chunin Exams.

You can feel the sweat collecting on your fingertips as you remain still. Moments like these make you hate the sound of your own heartbeat, rushing blood in your ears thundering loudly. Whenever you're in a fight like this, your senses fire up to the highest capacity they can muster. Repeatedly throwing yourself headlong into danger has hardened you in a way that Roku isn't familiar with. He doesn't know the same struggles of leading a team, and being responsible for everyone's lives.

In the distance, there's a red glint. Roku fires off another of his blood wave techniques. A pillar of light flashes in front of you, destroying a swath of clones in a direct line forward. You have to roll and tumble out of the way to avoid the blast. The grass where you had been a moment before is burnt black. It probably wouldn't be fatal to get hit, but it'd hurt enough to knock you out.

Now you can see him through the hole in your clone wall. His hand is outstretched, and smoking. He's bloody from being pierced by numerous needles, but as far as you can tell the poison hasn't effected him. It's possible he removed it, but you have no real way to confirm right now. Roku scans the crowd, and you guess he was just taking a random potshot.

There was no choice but to drop your bells when you rolled, and his attack burnt much of the wiring anyways. It's possible he's been training to counter everything you did to him since that day.

What are you going to do?

>A. Use the Roof Tile Shuriken Jutsu to attack with rocks from your crowd of clones. He doesn't know you can do this move. Attack with kunai once he's off guard.
>B. Attempt the Chakra Scalpel Jutsu, and use Shunshin to dash in suddenly from cover. If you can preform the technique successfully, you'll seriously surprise him.
>C. Attempt False Sense: Fatigue. If he removed the poison, it could trick him into thinking that he didn't get all of it. The poison and this genjutsu have similar effects. You've never attempted it in a combat scenario however, and it could be unsuccessful.
>D. Use the Summoning Jutsu.

You have to pause for just a moment to remember the handsigns, and you lightly mimic the motions for a second to be doubly sure. Then suddenly you put your hands together and fire off the False Sense: Fatigue Jutsu. This technique is a bit more powerful than your other Genjutsu, and also considerably more subtle. While Roku is looking for you, you let go of an invisible blast of your own energy.

It races across the field at a moderate speed. Normally it'd be much too difficult to hit a target from this far, but your cover gives you the breathing room you need.

It successfully connects, but you're unsure just how effective it'll be. You'll have to be patient and find out.

Roku steps forward, and sighs. "This is a ridiculously troublesome move that you have, you know..How am I supposed to find you in this crowd?? Poisoning people and then hiding is probably a really effective tactic against almost anybody.."

Roku grins. "But did you forget that I'm also a medical shinobi? I've already removed the poison. You might as well come out instead of just killing time trying to think of a plan."

You grumble. This guy sure loves to trash talk. Why is it that every enemy you meet keeps spilling all the info for you? Now you know he certainly isn't poisoned, so if he tires it's your Genjutsu.

What are you going to do?

>A. Challenge him to a no weapon's Taijutsu match. Your Genjutsu should give you the advantage as the fight drags on.
>B. Antagonize him by firing Water Bullets from your current position. Give him the message that you can wait here all day.
>C. Throw a handful of kunai, and rush him down with your wakizashi. It's time to go on the offensive.

Had to help with some stuff briefly. Post incoming.

You let loose several Water Bullets. The projectiles race towards him at high speed, in a small concentrated cone of fire. Roku's head snaps to the direction the attack came from, and he twists his torso to spin out of the way of each attack.

He calmly glances over in your general direction. At once you start to run to the left and slip through clones, so he doesn't have a read on you. Unexpectedly, he sprints directly forward into the crowd. Roku yanks out one of the needles in his body, and slaps his palm against the cut, drawing out more blood. He slings his hand horizontally, creating an explosive wave of red light. This time it fans out in a crescent, instead of a direct blast. The horizontal slash doesn't travel nearly as far, but a large swathe of your clones were just destroyed briefly. You have to hit the ground running to save yourself.

In a panic, you look back. You lock eyes with Roku, your reforming clones filling the space between you again. He's discovered you.

There's only a brief moment of pause to act. The longer you can last against him, the more your Genjutsu will take hold. You have to have faith that the effects will start to appear soon.

>A. Use Shunshin to launch yourself over him in an arc, towards the trees.
>B. Use Shunshin and draw your Wakizashi. He might not be expecting you to suddenly rush him.

You stop, and suddenly stand up. Reaching down you draw out your short curved blade, and it glints just long enough to catch Roku's eye. Dashing forward, your shoulder hits him directly in the chest before he can react. The larger boy is knocked back a couple steps, and you take this moment to sling your weapon forward, intending to scratch the tip of his nose.

Roku weaves his head under your first swipe, and counters by slinging a right hook into your ribs. Pain shoots through you, but it's nothing that you're unable to handle. Raising your right hand high, you bring down the hilt of your sword with the intent of cracking him in the head. He swipes his hand in an outside motion, as if he were wiping a window. The motion seamlessly strikes his hand against your elbow joint, bending it with little resistance. Your swing is thrown off course and he steps to the side, just out of your range of attack.

You glance over, surprised. Roku looks cocky, however. While you have the edge in speed, he seems to have both superior technique and power. Not wanting to lose your rhythm, you step forward again and make a slash at his leg. He steps outside of the range, light on his feet, and steps in to strike while you recover. A stiff left fist hits your face, and before you can swing your sword again he steps outside of your range.

Blood trickles down your face. It's not that your Taijutsu is bad, it's just that his is good.

>A. Keep it up. Even if you have to take some punishment, your Genjutsu will tire him out soon.
>B. Throw your Wakizashi at him, and try to get even deeper into his range. Use your fists and try land light jabs. You might be able to close in with your superior speed.
>C. Retreat, and use the Water Bullet Jutsu again. Your chakra reserves are starting to deplete, however.

You know that if you back of now, the effects of the Genjutsu will start to kick in. Since he knows that he removed the poison, if he has time, he'll just break out of your illusion. You've got to keep on the pressure. There's no other way to win this fight than to get in his face and tough it out. But while you have the superior range and speed with your weapon, Roku's technique makes it quite easy for him to handle you.

You fear that a single mistake could knock you out. The bigger boy's swings swoosh through the air. You step forward and try to strike again, slashing for his midsection this time. He steps out and in, using your longer recovery time to quickly strike your face.

This time his first strike was simply intended to open you up for a larger, more powerful blow. Your face lulls back slightly from the impact, and you have to essentially tense your whole face to keep your eyes pried open. Sweat and grime stings at them, irritating your eyes so that tears come forth. A spattering of blood hits your face as you exhale sharply from your nose. You grit your teeth.

His right fist is pulled back entirely, and you're trying to get out of the way. You have a rough idea of the path it's going to take, and you put every last fiber in your body towards avoiding this shot. The punch comes at you, and you feel like you're looking down the barrel of a cannon as it gets closer and closer.

You keep turning your head, desperate to avoid the blow. The first knuckle barely whiffs against your cheek bone, as does the second. You manage to turn it into a glancing blow, but as the rest of his fist connects, your head is whipped to the side. The sense of elation you had a moment ago is gone, your neck stinging painfully from the whiplash. There's a cut on your cheekbone now, as well.

What are you going to do? You're a bit wobbly on your feet at the moment. But he has to be getting tired too!

>A. Thrust forward with the sword and try to stab him.
>B. Keep spinning, and try to sweep his legs out from under him with a kick.
>C. Tackle him, and hug him close. Prevent him from being able to reach his weapons, and try to wrestle him to the ground.

As you're turning, you bend down and plant your hands on the ground. You keep going, twisting yourself and dropping lower until your legs fly out in a whiplike kick, swiping Roku's feet out from under him. It's clear he wasn't expecting this sort of sudden force from you. While most of your normal strikes don't have anything special behind him, this technique is an invention of Rock Lee's own Taijutsu. Having practiced it near daily lends the motion to have an automatic, fluid cut to it. He's chopped down decisively.

You spin around once more as the kick completes, so that you're facing him. Your hands are still flat against the ground. Roku's shoulder hits the ground, and while he's not in pain, he is surprised.

He goes to stand up. All of your senses start to fire up. It's almost supernatural how you can sense it now. The anticipation. You've been presented with an opponent who's proven to be superior to you in both physical might and outright destructive potential. As he attempts to stand up, sheer joy rockets through your body.

Roku's legs wobble briefly, for just a moment. His body is refusing his command due to the impression of fatigue. He shudders again as his legs struggle to let him stand straight. Once he does, he'd probably be able to move fine. After a moment of recovery, he wouldn't even notice the fatigue.

But right here, right now, his legs have shuddered, opening up the once chance you need to win this fight. You kick off with both feet, and though you have a bit of difficult seeing through your swelling eyes, your target has never been clearer. You leg go of your Wakizashi, as not to seriously harm him.

You take a full two steps forward, reeling back your right fist entirely. Roku's bent knees leave him just at your height. His eyes are wide and shocked. You know what he's thinking. "But I removed the poison!"

The breadth of your knuckles strike his jaw, snapping his head to the side with an explosive strike. His hands go high, and he's knocked back into the air for a second before hitting the ground. The skin on your knuckles was torn from such a huge strike, and your knuckles sting painfully.

You look around. Much of the nearby grass is burnt and black from Roku's explosive bolts, and there are senbon sticking out everywhere. Your nose might have a minor break in it, and your ribs are still aching from the body shot from earlier.

Taking a few steps forward, you look down. "You okay, man?"

Roku groans. You hit him in the jaw pretty damn hard. He doesn't say anything, but he gives you a thumbs up through a loopy haze.

You take a soldier pill from your pack and crunch it. It's not really necessary, but it's going to give you enough energy to heal the both of you with ease. Otherwise you might have to struggle to squeeze out the last few drops of your chakra, and that's never fun.

You start by restoring the skin on your knuckles, and reducing the swelling in your eyes. Then you go to Roku, and begin by handling the senbon wounds. Really, neither of you were hurt very much, but that's mostly due to the defensive nature of your fighting styles. At least, that's how you thought Roku fought. This time he was way more in your face, looking to put an end to it right away.

Chuckling, you sigh. All that did was make you feel cornered.

He comes to completely, and sits up. He's got a clear grimace on his face. "I can't believe this. It happened again."

You rub the back of your head sheepishly. "Hey, it happens to everyone every now and then, heh."

Roku shakes his head. "It's not just getting beat. It's getting beat when I already had the fight in my hands.."

He looks down at his palms and clenches his fists. "I've been working so hard to catch up, but it doesn't feel like anything's changed at all."

Beads of sweat drop down your forehead as you look around the burnt battlefield. "I wouldn't be so sure about that. It's clear you know not to mess around so much. But you can't always predict every angle. You were so sure that you'd cleared my poison, you didn't even check yourself for a Genjutsu."

Roku rubs his face. "Is that what was made my legs stop working? All of a sudden, all my stamina got sapped away from me. It was like I'd been fighting for way longer than I actually was."

You nod. "That's right. It's not that you haven't improved, it's that we're both improving. It makes sense it'd roughly turn out the same."

He grunts, and stands up. "The idea is that I catch up though. Ugh, my head..Thanks for the spar, at least. I'm headed home."

He waves, leaving at that. You shout, grinning. "It was great! We'll go again once I figure some more tricks out!"

----

Sorry to have to cut it shorter than I'd tonight folks. Happy to be back though. I have to go tell some people to knock it off but I'll be back shortly to answer some questions.

What's the point of taking a soldier pill, exactly? Those things aren't good for you.

Gotta make up for having a 12 year old body chakra pool

It's pretty limiting right now for you unfortunately.
>>
>>1055571
How soon will Roku tell his team about this? How smug will Mari and Lee be? How's our chakra pool growth coming along? Can we stock up supplies again before we go? WE get any stat ups or techniques learned? What was our deal with Roku for this match again I forgot?
>>
>>1055596
Sure but aren't we risking harming our long term chakra health by eating super ninja drugs all the time? In combat is fine but I feel we're abusing them too much in situations that don't really matter.
>>

We should really do some combat training tho

Kiba gives Akamaru a soldier pill before they do their whole deal almost every time if I remember. Like much things in naruto I don't think it was underused because it had some sort of downside, but rather, was forgotten about largely.

For immediate side effects I imagine they'd constipate you pretty bad.

>>1055602
Mari will be extremely smug, while Lee will probably just laugh mostly. He'll say that's why you're a chunin and Roku's a genin.

Your chakra pool is larger than when you started the quest, but not by too much. The real improvement is your chakra control, which lets you be multitudes more efficient.

As for supplies you'll be refreshed on all your generic equipment. As for techniques this session, you have mastery over False Sense Fatigue, now. I'll change it in the pastebin if no one else does by next thread.

As for the match, it started out as just a spar, but both of you were experiencing some pretty strong feelings during it. Your recent fears of nonperformance, and the current fear of losing to a genin, versus his desire to overcome the person to beat him.

>>1055634

I can't die anons, there is still questing to be done.

Roku once bragged about how he had grown strong enough to beat you at the time that you had beaten Mari.

He was right, but he wasn't quite good enough to beat you as you are now.

Which one of the village genin would give us the most trouble in a spar and why?

I remember everone freaking out back in the Chunin exams that Sarada would whip us if we had fought her thanks to her sharaingan seeing through most of our Genjutsu and im pretty sure that's still the case.
>>
>>1056498
It's certainly Sarada. Nyoko could also overwhelm you with pure offense.
>>
>>1056608

Nyoko? Snow Princess?

...sorry, it's been a while.

>>1056618
yeah Ice princess. Her Ice would negate our water and her AOE and ice arena would make our clones useless.

Yes that's correct.

Speaking of forgetting characters I am getting a pastebin of each character together. I'll put it in the OP once it's done.

It'll be short. Just short physical description, name, village, and the names of a couple of their moves. Since there's so many characters though it'll be handy enough for a brief reminder.
>>
>>1056633
It would be much appreciated.

Also for fucks sake, I keep missing this quest. It's like trying to catch a unicorn,
>>

I too, keep missing this quest. Any way you could post a day in advance when you are gonna run, or at least a few hours prior?

Also thank you for going to update the pastebin. I personally would MUCH appreciate a character pastebin.

Also Mini, remember Takkun, i think his name was? The kid on Yasu's team who knew a lot of water jutsu and the puddle jutsu? He offered to teach us the Hidden mist jutsu IIRC, and we never took him up on that. Any way we could take him up on his offer soon and learn it?

(And Roku owes us some Taijutsu lessons that he learned from Lee, and he better make good on giving us gains.)
>>
>>1056608
Yeah i figured.
It keeps me up at night thinking about ways we can beat her.
The only thing i can think of is more ninjustu related tricks. Genjustu is useless, a taijutsu battle with her would be like ice skating up hill, and big flashy ninjustu is not our style.
We need to invest more time in finding more utilitarian ways to use water jutsu, we have the smarts and chakra control to discover something interesting if we tried.
I know i'll be looking more into it before the next thread begins.
>>
>>1056913
I'll post on the twitter a few hours before. I was thinking of doing so anyway to give people a chance to gather before the first vote.

And yes, I forgot about it. Possibly next thread you can do that.

>>1056930
Investigating tricky ways to use Water Jutsu isn't a bad idea.
>>
We really need to make a specialized technique to incapatitate those immortal jinshis. It can be brutal if necessary such as destroying the bones, brains or backbones
>>
>>1057487
neurotoxin should still work on them even if they are immortal. we should look into that
>>
>>1059803
That's not a bad idea anon.

remember, the path to making your own poisons is in Boil release, you get that by fusing fire and water.

If that's the sort of stuff you want to do I would look into unlocking the fire element.
>>

About Sarada, the sharingan doesn't let you see through obstacles, so the mist technique, or even just smokebombs, would negate it's usefulness. Or course we'll be blind too, but what do you bet a clan of OWLS knows a thing or two about fighting in total darkness?

Bonus points for blindfighting while using false-sound genjutsu, poison senbon, and a paralysis jutsu that only makes sound when it succeeds.
>>

>>
>>1059803

>>
So plan for next thread is to learn fire release so we can start experimenting with boil release. and also get some taijutsu lessons from Roku if we have a chance
>>
Absolutely game for boil release. Our clone has it, time to fight acid with acid.
>>
>>1063940
This gives me an idea.
Do you guys think they're us something like lighting release tags we could put on our senbon?
If so we can make a plan as such.
1.Use hidden mist to blind her
2.Get her nice and wet with water bullets or some other water jutsu
3.use our lighting embedded senbon to strike and taze her
4.Hope that's enough to win because that's all there is to the plan and i doubt it would work twice in a row

Another idea is tricking her into close combat and using substitution to replace our selves with a log covered in flash bombs, blinding her and giving us time to set up or go in.

>>1064006
We also need to talk to Takkun about hin teaching use hidden mist but that can be handled in a paragraph or two.
>>
>>1064048
Cant we use the machine that boruto used?
How is the tech development here? We should try to solo experiment
>>
If we learn that puddle technique from Takkun, I wonder once we learn boil, if we could make a variation of it to hide in Acid puddles. It might be able to turn Shozuku's use of Boil release against him.
>>
>>1064048
that's actually a good Idea. we should look into elemental tags

In this quest I've changed it so that learning combined elements isn't a bloodline technique, but something you can practice. It's just difficult and uncommon.

There are, however, still the canon bloodlines that use these combined elements. Being a part of that bloodline just means you get it without the work basically.

Boil release is the realm of all chemical reactions when using chakra, so it's for making things like poison, or acids. Of course you'll also be able to make all your water moves boiling hot if you want.
>>
>>1068046
Cool I'm down with that, although i still don't get why we can't make poison without knowing boil.
I mean do all poisons require that knowledge or is it just required for high level, or experimental poisons.
>>
>>1068071
It's more required for high level experimental stuff. You could research regular poison making, but really the flower shop offers anything you'd be able to make, without you having to invest in equipment as well.

In the show there were actually some poison jutsu that were considered non elemental, just regular Ninjutsu. For the sake of consistency I wanted to include that branch of techniques under Boil release, since breathing poison and breathing acid are just different strength levels of the same type of technique.

With Boil release you'll be able to freely make and store poisons and acids.

Evening everyone. Today we'll be starting something a little different, in order to quicken the pacing of the quest overall. Similar to when you trained with Shikamaru, each choice will roughly consume the whole day. Due to Takeshi's obsessions, he's having difficulty relaxing.

Unlike before, there's no specific time limit. Every few days you'll have the option to visit and chat with someone, for sanity's sake. Speaking with Naruto could give you insight on your next mission if you were to choose to do so, but hanging out with your friends at times is also suggested.

In spite of your healing, you're still fairly banged up from that spar. For today you'll head home and rest, and get back to work tomorrow. On your way back, you quietly reflect on recent events. While you're still capable of clinching it out against your fellow Leaf Shinobi, knowing that there are enemies out there who can push you aside with ease causes a bit of persistent tension in your mind. Even though you're going about business as usual, you feel like it's not enough.

You get back from the training grounds and start to make your way through the outskirts of town. The more you work, the slower progress seems to get. While you are improving, it's not nearly at the rate you'd like. There are times when you regret not having the brute force necessary to finish off a foe. Not to mention the Chunin Exams are coming again. Normally, this wouldn't mean anything to you at this point. But as you look off into the distance of the city lights as the sun sets, you consider several facts.

The scent of food from a small diner nearby wafts through the cool afternoon air. Pretty soon it's going to be fall.

Your possibly broken nose aches, throbbing forcefully.

It's starting to feel like you've hit your limit, maybe. At least until you get older and your chakra pool increases.

You stop walking. Thinking this thought ceases all your mental faculties for a moment. Emotions well up inside you in a meandering, smoldering fashion. But one day, you'll feel the full effects of what this means. At some point, your classmates are going to pass the Chunin Exams. Because of their talent, their inherent attributes, they'll rocket right past you.

The idea of your accomplishments being forgotten about in their shadow isn't what upsets you.

It's all your hard work up to this point amounting to nothing.
>>
>>1068732
Suddenly you're running back to your house, fists clenched in a dead sprint. The pressures of your youth are setting in once again. Your heartbeat is a ticking clock, constantly reminding you of an impending future.

When you get home, you obsessively study your texts in order to relax. After getting a few hours of studying in and eating, you feel calm enough to sleep. Maybe it was just the testosterone from the exercise, but you were really fired up.

You go to bed, and wake up feeling fairly refreshed the next morning. You heal your nose again, reducing the swelling. Your ribs have several bruises, but that's nothing new.

After eating a small breakfast, you shower and get dressed. You step outside. The whole day is available to you.

As far as you know you don't have any missions coming up. What would you like to do?

>A. Go to the Training Field and practice Jutsu.
>B. Go to the Academy to study. Research the Fire Element.

>>B. Go to the Academy to study. Research the Fire Element.
>>
You arrive at the Academy fairly early in the morning, marching up the steps to the front door with a focused stride. There's one enemy out there who's made a point of harassing you lately, so you want to get to understand his style of fighting better. The waves of acidic liquid have shown that he can completely control the landscape of any battle, and make crippling blows with every attack.

The fear of getting hit by it is almost as bad as the actual substance. There's twisted scars on your legs from the acidic spray that has managed to get on you.

As far as actually learning the boil release, you're not too sure you'll be able to get a grasp on it. Combining two elements generally requires a lifetime of work. Whether Shozuku simply has the natural talent to bypass that, or the bloodline, you're unsure. Either way, comparatively, this would be a titanic undertaking. A decade of study, at least, is what they told you in school.

Your brow furrows as you step into the library. Who the hell has that kind of time?

Gathering up numerous texts, you start to pour over the element of your homeland. The most basic techniques and earliest historical references you can find. Without understanding the component of Fire, you'll never be able to access the Boil release.

Everything you're reading is more or less, as you expect, opposite to how Water works.

While water is all about understanding and controlling the flow, you find that Fire is more simply directing all your force through a focal point. Rather than trying to control and direct, you simply let it explode and take a life of it's own. But be careful not to commit too much chakra to any technique, as Fire release jutsu are known for being particularly draining.

Most of the jutsu you read about are the lowest ranks. The training exercises and D rank jutsu meant for Genin. This causes you to think of your classmates Rokuro and Masaki, who both already use two elements with ease. By now they're probably masters, considering the last time you saw them was the Chunin exams.
>>
>>1069082

Students come and go as you work, and the hours fly by. You take several short breaks, but dive right back into the material soon after. You make sure to run some laps around the school as well.

They say that mastering the element opposite to your nature is one of the most difficult undertakings for an average Shinobi. Most turn away from the hurdle, making some combined elements more common than others.

You read from the book that a common exercise for young Genin is to attempt to get a leaf to smolder, similar to a magnifying glass. You'll remember this the next time you go to the training field, so you can make your first venture into unknown territory. You could also ask a friend to help.

For now, you leave and head home. Your brain is so tired from trying to comprehend so much that you easily fall asleep early.

--

It's the next morning. You haven't heard any news as far as missions, so you've got the day to yourself again.

>>1069131
>>1069132
Seeing as the information is still fresh in your mind, you figure you'll attempt to get a foothold in the world of fire today. On your way there, the potential uses of a few simple fire jutsu run through your mind. It's much deadlier than a Water Jutsu of a similar caliber, for starters. That alone would mean your offensive capabilities would be considerably more efficient. At this rate, you're going to be a master of infiltration. With piercing weapons, slashing weapons, blunt weapons, and now fire. Poison helps as well.

You try not to dawdle on the possibilities of what you could do with the Boil release, preferring to stay grounded in reality for now.

Arriving at the training ground, you find a nice shaded spot to attempt the exercise. With a short hop, you reach up and grab an oak leaf. It's not looking too lively, considering the temperature is dipping. It's still green enough that it won't just go up easily, though.

Kneeling down, you hold the leaf a little more than a foot in front of your face, so you can focus your eyes on it.

You rest your other hand on your knee, and glare. For the Water element, it more or less came naturally, but how is this going to go down?

Currently, you're gathering your chakra at the tip of your fingers. Next, you'll have to mold and then release it. Generally doing handsigns would mold your chakra, but for this starting exercise you'll have to do it manually. This is so you can get a proper feel for the element, and control it appropriately when you release your more powerful jutsu. This is hardly the type that you want backfiring on you.

Staring at the oak leaf, you make an effort towards the book's instructions. You imagine the chakra in your fingers smoldering, and smoke twisting from the tip of the leaf. It's a slow process without handsigns, but you a tingling warmth in your fingertips tells you that the fire nature chakra is there and gathering.

It's incredibly minimal, however. The warm feeling fades away almost as quickly as it came. Could it be noticing it detracted from your focus?

Shuffling slightly, you reassert your attention the leaf and imagine the smoldering heat of embers. While you've always been natural at the evading and control aspect of Water, it's also fair to say you've never lacked aggression. It only comes out in your most desperate moments, when you know you need a bit of daring to win the fight. Sensing the right moment for it has always been your ultimate strategy, but the nature of fire is not to sit and wait.

It's only warmth, but the sensation is there. You repeat this process for several hours, fighting to keep the pulses of warmth alive. After a short break, you pause to think. Maybe you're just not in the right mindset.

Where do you want to look for inspiration?

>B. Think about Kichiro

Why not both? They both seem to embody fire pretty well. Hanto is the controlled steady burn of a log fire in a fireplace, still dangerous but contained, while Kichiro has the explosive nature of a wildfire wreaking havock everywhere it goes

If not then
>B. Kichiro

That's how I see them anyway
>>
>>1069482
>>B. Kichiro
>>

>>B. Kichiro

For a few moments, you close your eyes. Trying to think of someone you know who best embodies fire, you imagine Kichiro. He always has an air of aggression about him, and in a fight he resents doing anything but charging in head on. He was even powerful enough with his fire to ward of a Tailed beast. You heard a rumor that he'd broken both of his fists doing that, and he had to have surgery for weeks to be able to continue as a Shinobi.

Even then, you can't imagine he's ever stopped wanting to do the same thing again. How does he do it? At first, you'd thought that his age was the only thing that let him do Fire jutsu. But as your friend grew, he proved again and again that he would throw down his life for even the pettiest of reasons. Or even the most noble.

Opening your eyes, you draw your focus on the leaf again. With fierce determination you rapidly draw the chakra to the tip of your fingers, and in moment's you're getting a consistent wave of heat. You're wasting a fair bit of it, but the longer you sustain the warmth the more fine your control is growing over it.

For the next several hours, you master this technique. All around you people come and go, but seeing your meditative state, they leave you be. As time goes on you waste less and less energy, and the warmth grows stronger and stronger. Soon you're capable of imagining that smoldering sensation, and it even begins to appear on the tips of your finger. Thin trails of smoke float from the edge of the leaf you're holding, and fade away above your head.

Beads of sweat drop from your forehead, and you sigh. "That was seriously way too hard..I guess I did it, though."

[Learning the fundamentals on your own like this gives you a more innate understanding of Fire Release.]

After getting a bite to eat, you head home and prepare for the next day. You think all about what sort of training you're going to accomplish, and who you could see to help with that.

You wake up early in the morning, at the crack of dawn. After a shower and a small breakfast, you start getting your things ready. Something seems off, however. You notice that for some reason the living room is strangely clean.

Looking around, you don't see your brother anywhere. His shoes are gone and his bedroom door is shut. He's probably at work.

You're in front of the door, ready to leave. Where do you want to go, though?

>A. Go to the Training Field and practice Jutsu.

Today, you'll see if you can take your buddy Takkun up on his offer of teaching you the Hidden Mist Jutsu. It's been quite some time since you've seen him, so you hope he remembers the deal.

You actually have been to his house before, when you were younger. It's been a few years, but you once went to a birthday party for him. Your brother helped you pay for a small RC car. Nothing particularly fancy, but everyone had fun taking turns. As far as you can remember, his house is in a suburban district more on the eastern side of the city. It takes you about an hour to finally track the place down. You recognize it by the light blue paint on the siding.

Trotting up a small series of steps, you knock on the front door and wait patiently. After a few moments, Takkun himself opens up the door. He looks rather sleepy, as if he's just woken up. He blinks. "O-oh, good morning Takeshi. How are you doing?"

You smile. "Great. You?"

He rubs the back of his head, and chuckles. He's probably only just gotten dressed. "Still half asleep. I was actually getting ready to head out after I eat some breakfast. You just happen to pass by?"

You shake your head. "I was hoping to take you up on that offer, to teach me the Hidden Mist Jutsu. I mean, it doesn't have to be today I suppose! Whenever you've got time.

He scratches his face. "Huh, sure. All I was gonna do was some solo training anyways. If you wanna come in for a second I'll be ready in a few minutes."

You nod, and enter at his invitation. Unsurprisingly, the house looks fairly normal. There are pictures of him and his parents around, and a trophy or two on some shelves. The television is playing the morning news, and Takkun offers you a seat on the couch. He slurps down some cereal and heads into the bathroom, coming out soon after.

As you're watching the news, they replay the video that the Jashinists put out for the world. News experts have been analyzing it and discussing it for a while now, but you know there isn't any useful information to be drawn. Looking at the video itself for the first time, you see Shozuku hiding behind a blank mask. Not only did this bastard kill a village full of people; he's inciting civil war.

The news is discussing potential effects on the economy of neighboring countries. Your head hangs low until Takkun's voice picks up behind you. "Ready! Let's go."
>>
>>1069961

You grin, and head out with him. It doesn't take too long to get to the training field. On your way, you and Takkun both exchange stories about your latest missions. Of course, you make sure to keep any of the really wild details to yourself. You wonder how many people do the same to you all the time, or if Takkun's leaving parts of his stories out right now as well.

He seems a little taller, about your height now. Overall your friend seems more confident and proactive. Spending time with Sarasu sensei seems to have it's benefits.

Once you arrive, he turns. "Okay! I don't think this one's gonna be all that hard for you. You've already got some experience with Water Jutsu, and Jutsu that operate over a large area. Your Paralyzing Bells and Haze Clones. The only reason I'm agreeing to teach you one of my most useful moves is because I know what you could do with it too!"

He grins cheekily. "Sounds awesome. What's the first step?"

First he shows you the handsign's proper position. It's unique, requiring one arm to be placed high in the air while the other is kept near the center of your chest. From here you radiate water release chakra like a radio tower, trying to spread it evenly as far as you can instead of having it flow from a single point. It takes a considerable amount of time, but with his help, you're able to bleed mist into the air seemingly from nothing. The training field itself is coated in a deep covering of fog, changing the tone of the day. Once the training is done, you notice that your skin and clothes are very damp.

>A. Thanks, Takkun. Is there any of my moves you'd wanna know?

"Thanks, Takkun. If you ever need any favors, let me know."

He looks off, and nods. "Got it. I could use your help for some special training too, at some point. I've got a mission to go on tomorrow, though. Even though the Chunin Exams are coming, Sensei still wants us to help the community. He says that everybody slacks off from the actual work, and it's a hassle for everyone in the city."

You'd never considered that, but it makes sense. Genin are the ones who handle a lot of the landscaping and general maintenance. If everyone's preparing for the exams they're not going to be working.

He gets his things together and starts to head out. "I'll be splitting off from here. I've gotta be somewhere!"

The slightly smaller boy leaps off, and leaves you to walk home. It's a bit early in the day to be retiring, but you've been going fairly hard for the past few days. Tonight, it couldn't hurt to just kick back and read some comic books.

The sun's going down, and the air is getting cold. You can see your breath as you're walking home, and you put your hands in the pocket of your navy blue jacket. Even if it's fairly temperate around here, you'll have to wear some gloves. You'll have to buy gloves, you mean.

The ones you had last year probably wouldn't be great in a combat situation. Fingers are way too floppy. Tenten will probably be able to get you a fitted pair.

You step up to your apartment door, and use your key to open it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k3onazsn_Q

Putting a hand up, you rub your eyes and yawn as you step through.

"Surprise!!"

When you open them, you're surprised to be blinded by a bright light. All of a sudden your senses are assaulted by sound and confusion, various air horns going off and confetti being thrown on top of you. You blink several times, and your eyes are first drawn to a big banner hanging on a far wall.

"HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY TAKESHI"

You look down. All around, you can see your friends, family, and teachers, all packed into your fairly small apartment. Your brother is standing in the middle with a giant grin, and first you notice Naruto and Hinata sitting at your dinner table. Naruto's got his hands deep in a bag of barbecue chips, with Chocho's dad Choji right behind him trying to wrestle it out. Boruto, Sarada, Sakura, and Mitsuki are nearby as well next to the counter. Your Hanto and Mirai are both here as well, not to mention Tenten and her daughter Mari. Everyone laughs at your totally stunned expression, as it's clear you were completely unaware it was your own birthday.

In the living room on the couch, you notice Kichiro and Ai playing video games. Kichiro is mashing buttons in desperation while she calmly decimates him at the fighting game.

Shikamaru and Temari wave and greet you, and the Ino-Shika-Cho of this generation all run up to you. In the background you can see Yasu and Naota as well, surprisingly.

Behind you the door opens again, and Takkun steps in holding a cake. He's completely out of breath, and groans. "Shit, he beat me back!"

Everyone laughs at his expense. Apparently Kichiro was actually planning to keep you busy today, and Takkun was going to get the cake. However you visited Takkun surprisingly, causing everyone to be unable to find you while the sheepish Genin had to keep you occupied.

A smile draws across your face as the warmth fills up your whole body. You start to laugh, hard, and wash away a fair bit of tension.

That's all for tonight folks. I'll be around to answer some questions, though.

When you say were getting close, do you think we have around 15-20 threads or so before the timeskip? I have to be honest, i want to hold on to this time period for a good while before we get into adult ninja territory, so please don't rush for it.

And on a personal note after missing every thread for the past forever, i finally managed to draw enough attention to Takkun to squeeze the Hidden Mist Jutsu out of him, I feel liberated.

Hey Mini, can we learn some sensory jutsu? What is water style sensing like? Can we hone it enough that once mastered we can use water particles in the mist to detect people moving through it (all while they can't see us?)

So, when is Kakashi going to come chat us up, now that we've got the summons.

I was really confused about why we weren't teaching a jounin team/summoning rabbits. Then I realized that Laze runs FMA and Country died and I was reading Mini.

Thanks for the good session as always, Mini.

It's difficult to say just how much longer it'll be. 15 threads sounds reasonable.

more or less whenever she saw him first being a jackass
