Shinobi Quest #56

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last thread, Tsuki Norihime met with the Matriarch of the Aburame Clan, Kogoto, to broker an agreement between her clan and the reformed ROOT. After a discussion on the ethics of power and the nature of failure, Tsuki felt reinvigorated- her path forward seeming just a little more clear than it had before. After reporting her successes and teasing your elderly mentor Danzo Shimura, Tsuki returned to the Hyuga Compound to rest.

Her routine continued into the next day- after her hospital visit, Tsuki decided to begin tackling the promises she had made- first, with the Four Great Spirits, who had helped her out during the attack on Konoha. The nature of the meeting was unclear at first, until the spirits clarified- they objected to Tsuki’s associations with Kaguya, decrying her as a usurper, a demon, and a devourer of worlds...

“You call her a demon- a monster- a “Devourer of Worlds”. What exactly do you mean by that?” you question.

Kaguya Otsutsuki. One of several of species- one that long ago began to subsist themselves off of the fruit of the Tree of Life. Many such places exist- fewer, now. These trees are the source of life- and rarely, these sacred trees produce fruit. For mortal beings, this fruit imparts great power- and is the source of the chakra you humans are able to wield. However, the Otsutsuki were able to induce the creation of these fruits outside of the natural cycle- this abuse eventually drained their home planet of all life except for themselves. Like a plague of locusts, they spread throughout creation, searching for more trees- to gorge on the fruit that sustains them. Kaguya is one of these beings, Tsuki. A parasitic creature that would drain our planet of life to sate her own desires.

“She's from another world? A creature that consumes the life essence of an entire planet to sustain themselves? If I’m being honest… Seiryuu- this all seems a little far fetched to me.” You question.

It doesn’t matter if you believe us or not- She has already consumed the fruit of the Tree of Life once before. As she will readily admit- it is the source of her powers. Why would one such as her come here if that was not her original intention?

“She consumed it to defend herself!” You exclaim.

She would consume the life energy of an entire planet just to defend herself? Sure her residual powers would suffice- especially against humans who could not even utilize chakra.

Suzaku seems intent on driving this point home.

Her reasons do not matter- and more importantly, what will do when her power wanes? Those with power seldom give it up willingly, Tsuki.

These spirits… don’t seem like they are lying. Although the story is very odd, certain points match up with what Kaguya explained- and even before that, what Dr. Kasugi had explained about the tree motifs found across the world in various ancient sites.

The Tree of Life existed- and it doesn’t now.

“I’d like to talk to her about this. I do not feel that she is some irredeemable monster- and I cannot answer the questions you have brought forward. Only she can.” You declare.

A mistake, Tsuki Norihime! Her reasons do not matter! She has partaken of the planet’s very essence! An action more selfish than should even be conceivable!”

“Byakko- Your counsel was not asked for. I am a neutral party here, and will find the truth for myself. I am not in the business of making blind judgments based on subjective morality.” You chide.

S-Subjective morality! We are speaking of the very planet that sustains your existence! You would ask the demon why it practices evil, as if it’s answer will absolve it of wrongdoing? Absurd! I-

BYAKKO. ENOUGH.

CHILD OF NORIHIME, FIND YOUR TRUTH. RETURN TO US WITH WITH YOUR ANSWER, IF YOU ARE OF THE MIND TO DO SO.

We will be waiting, Tsuki.

Oh. So. Very. Patiently.

……..

You open your eyes. No voices- no angry spirits.

You’ve broken out it a sweat, though- and now you have a headache.

It seems nothing in this world can be simple.....

You rise, body aching. You certainly didn’t do anything strenuous, but those spirits- are they able to affect you so severely, from such a distance? Byakko particularly objected to your tone, although none of them seemed happy with your choice.

You sigh.

These spiritual beings, gods and the like…. They’re honestly becoming an annoyance. You’ll keep your agreements, because that's the kind of woman you are- but they’re on thin ice, as far as you’re concerned. Besides, the constant bickering gave you a headache.

You slide the door to your room open, only to be greeted by a cool, wintery breeze. Normally you would complain, but it’s actually quite refreshing.

Peering around, you’re able to find Hinata easily- a small crowd has gathered to watch her practice her Gentle Fist techniques. A small smile creeps onto your face- Hinata had often complained of Neji drawing similar crowds. Have the tables turned for the young heiress? Ohohohohoho!~

...Of course, it could be due to Neji’s absence. Either way, you don’t have enough time to conjecture on it- Fuu is going to be leaving by the end of the day, if Hinata is correct, and you don't want to miss her.

You…

No, you don’t have the time to wait. Surely Hinata can continue some other time?

You walk towards the practice area, undeterred. Slowly, you worm your way through the crowd of onlookers, until you reach the outer ring of the practice area.

Hinata is focused, the bulging blood vessels around her eyes being the telltale of her Byakugan being active. She should be able to see nearly everything around her, right? Calling out or whistling would be uncouth- instead, you silently wave, hoping to get her attention.

As she finishes her intense kata, she stops to take a slight breather- and as you expected, notices your presence. Silently, you point upwards at the sun, which already begun its descent in the sky. She nods once and turns, leaving the practice area- likely to change clothes.

The crowd grumbles slightly; they must have been expecting more of a show. That, however, isn’t your problem. Returning to your room, you quickly check your own outfit in the mirror, along with your hair- just in case. Thankfully, both are unaffected from your earlier stresses. You shoot yourself a wink and a smile- gorgeous.

Ego appeased, you head towards the entrance of the compound, to wait for Hinata. She doesn’t keep you waiting long, arriving wearing a slightly heavier version of her usual outfit.

“Sorry about that, Tsuki-hime; I wasn’t sure how long your “meditation” session would be.” She teases.

“I’ll have you know I feel alive and wonderfully refreshed!” You pout.

The pout eases into a small smile as Hinata laughs.

“We really should get going, though- Norihime girls keep a tight schedule!” You announce.

“While I agree, you do remember that you’re the *only* Norihime girl, right?” Hinata prods.

“Why, thank you Hinata- yes, I am the one and only. Surely there is nobody quite like me?” You prod back.

“I’m not sure the world could handle more than one Tsuki Norihime.” Hinata sighs playfully.

The laughter continues as you make your way into Konoha, heading towards where Fuu was staying.

You and Hinata are able to catch Fuu as she packs, with two squads of Takigakure Shinobi standing guard over her hotel room. None of them are especially friendly, and the two of you elect to wait in the lobby for Fuu.

“Seems like they took the warning seriously, at least.” HInata observes. “They could be a bit less curt, though.”

“It’s to be expected.” You say with a frown. “Two of their men died within Konoha’s walls, and their Jiinchuriki was nearly captured. Not to mentioned the state of Konoha currently. If they didn’t believe the initial reports, they surely do now after seeing it firsthand.”

“The mission comes first.” Hinata responds, watching several of the Taki shinobi keep watch. “As far they know, Fuu is still in danger. As far as we know, she might still be, especially once she leaves Konoha. Have you ever been to Takigakure, Tsuki?” She asks.

“No, but I know my father has. While they certainly wouldn’t show the bulk of their force to an outsider, it didn’t leave the best impression on him compared to Konoha.” You reply. “Konoha dwarfs them by more than a factor of ten. I really am worried about her safety… if the Akatsuki struck Takigakure in force, it would surely be obliterated.”

“Many of the smaller nations ally themselves with the Land of Fire for protection. Taki is one of the few that has it’s own Shinobi Village, so surely they have some unique abilities that allow them to defend themselves?” Hinata ponders.

“Hopefully. The world has become a lot more dangerous.” You sigh, brow furrowed.

Danzo might know about the capabilities of the Takigakure shinobi, although you’re sure that he, like you, would prefer to have her stay in Konoha, where it’s safer. If only it was an option…. But no, such a thing would be akin to denying Taki it’s sovereignty, and Konoha would be bereft of another ally. You haven’t been given the full report, but with the events of Ame and Suna’s betrayal, the tension between the nations is the highest it’s been since the previous Shinobi World War. Everything is teetering on a knife’s edge, and it would only take one wrong move to send the entire world tumbling once more into chaos….

“Ah, it’s Tsuki-hime! Hinata-chan as well! Fuu is so happy to see the two of you!”

Fuu’s energetic voice pulls you out of your nihilistic fog. The smiling girl nearly bowls both of you over, embracing you in a mighty hug.
>>
>>1050634
>
Might be a good idea to present her the possibility of coming back to stay in Konoha for awhile in the future, clearly for protection reasons. Wouldn't mind more Fuu in the quest anyway.
>>
>>1050661
I doubt her village will allow that. They almost lost her and will probably be more protective of her even more.
>>
>>1050661
Fuu is a good girl.
>>
>>1050676
If overtures are made for diplomacy between Taki and Konoha, they might be willing to let her later on, seeing as we fought perilous odds to save her and return her home when we could have easily let her be taken.
>>
>>1050691
That was the idea. Beside, if the proposition came from Fuu herself, it might be more convincing than if Konoha was to advance the request. Then again, it would be an idea applicable in the future, not something that we should ask her to do right away anyway.
>>
Maybe we should try and orchestrate a marriage with someone in Konoha for Fuu? That could be a way to keep her in Konoha. They would probably make us swear to give back Chomi once she kicks it though
>>
>>1050735
overtly aggressive/attempting to poach their war potential.

“Yes.. its great…. to see….. you too, Fuu.” Hinata responds struggling to free herself from Fuu’s tightening embrace.

After a few moments you both free yourself from her grip, and your conversation begins in earnest.

“So, have you finished packing everything? We wouldn’t want you to leave any of your souvenirs behind!” You tease. In her time Konoha after the attack, you and Hinata had taken the time to show her around, and in the process bought her several outfits, among other things. As she helped with the repairs, the villagers had given her several tokens of appreciation as well.

“Ah, well, mostly.” She admits, somewhat embarrassed. “Fuu has so many nice things now… her new friends from home were somewhat taken aback. Everyone’s been so nice; and Fuu’s made so many new friends! It wouldn’t do to leave anything behind.”

You can’t help but smirk. Those poor Taki shinobi had no idea what they were signing up for…

“It most certainly wouldn’t, Fuu. Think how all your new friends here in Konoha would feel!” You continue.

“Y-yes! Fuu will endeavor to pack everything securely, and to not leave anything behind!” She reassures you- although this just elicits laughter from both you and Hinata.

“I’m just teasing you, Fuu. Really though, when are you going to come visit us again? Konoha won’t be as bright without you.” You say, changing the subject.

Fuu frowns.

“Fuu… isn’t sure. It took a lot of begging for Hisen-sama to let Fuu even come to the exams. After everything that happened…. Leaving again is probably out of the question.”

“Are you happy about going back, Fuu?” Hinata asks, lowering her voice.

She smiles sadly in response.

“Fuu… doesn’t have many friends back home. Most of the village is scared of Fuu.” She explains.

“Of you? But you’re so friendly and kind- how could anyone be scared of you?” Hinata asks. She seems legitimately angry over this- although you would be as well, if you didn’t already know the reason.

“Let me guess, Chomei, right?” You say, arms crossed.

Fuu just nods, still looking somewhat downcast.

“People are scared of what they don’t understand. The Tailed Beasts hold untold destructive power… that alone would cause it. Regardless, Fuu- you’ll just need to keep doing you best, alright? Don’t let them keep you down. You’ll always have Chomei with you, too!” You observe, trying to cheer her up.

Thankfully her naturally cheerful demeanor takes over, and she smiles.

“Promise you’ll come visit Fuu?” She asks. In her eyes, though, you can see it- she’s practically begging.

You answer….

1. Positively. This girl is your friend, and without her you might not have made it out of the attack on your home.

2. Realistically. Don’t deny her, but make it clear that you aren’t sure how soon you’ll be able to visit, for a variety of reasons.

A Taki branch of Ichiraku certainly would make for an excellent reason to visit.
Plus, visiting more allied villages will give us a better idea of Konoha's political situation and what it can do to improve/take advantage of those.

“Of course we’ll visit you, silly!” You exclaim loudly, taking Fuu’s hands in yours.

“Hinata and I are your friends, after all. We’ll find some excuse or another to come see you.” You continue, giving her a wide smile.

Her eyes begin to tear up slightly, before she blinks them away.

“Really? You really really mean it, Tsuki-hime?” She questions, her eyes shining brightly.

“Promise, Fuu. A Norihime always honors her contracts.” You say self-assuredly.

Fuu tackles you, squeezing you in a tight hug.

Hinata begins to fret, trying to pry Fuu off of you- but you just laugh. Fuu says she has many friends… but you’d wager that you two are the closest friends she’s ever had.

A few minutes later, once everyone is on their feet, the goodbyes begin.

“Fuu needs to finish packing… we’ll be traveling through the night to avoid detection.” She explains.

“You be careful, alright? Chomei too.” You say in a mock-scolding tone.

Fuu laughs, before giving a mock imitation of Chomei’s voice.

“Fortune is always on the side of the Lucky-Seven Tails!” She intones.

You and Hinata laugh again, then all say goodbye via a group hug.

“We’ll come see you as soon as we can, Fuu. Take care of yourself, and your Village.” Hinata says, sad to see her new friend leave.

“Fuu will do her best! Both of you do the same- build Konoha up bigger and better than before!” She exclaims.

The two of you salute, while still laughing.

“We’ll bring you back so you can see the new Konoha in all of it’s glory.” You say, giving her a wink.

She nods emphatically, before bidding the two of you farewell.

You and Hinata both wave goodbye, before exiting out into the cool afternoon air.

Honestly, the primary thing that irks me about the Beasts is how random they appeared, one day we're waiting for Danzo to train us, we doze off and next thing you know we're talking to four strange voices.

For what it's worth, our summons will likely mainly see use outside of battle due to how poorly summoning meshes with Tsuki's already chakra-intensive fighting style.

With that in mind, I'd recommend the rabbits on their virtue of supposedly specializing in espionage (or any other creature that can sneak or spy well, I suppose). Intelligence has always been a god-tier advantage to have in most situations, and our summons would give us a major edge in that department.

The walk back is somewhat somber. While you had only known Fuu for about a month, her energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and really helped brighten the village during one of it’s darkest times. Her absence will be felt- possibly by the townsfolk of Konoha even more than yourself.

Sensing the mood, Hinata tries to cheer you up, eventually resorting to bribing you with dinner. This peps you up a bit, and you both head back to the Hyuga compound to enjoy some good food.

----

After dinner, one of the Hyuga attendants walks over to the table, seemingly passing out mail.

“Excuse me, Lady Hinata, Lady Tsuki. I have a letter from Lord Norihime addressed to his daughter.”

You almost snort. “Lord Norihime”? That’s funny. When did they start calling him that?

“Much appreciated, you may go.” Hinata says, giving permission for the attendant to carry on. She hands the letter to you. It’s bulging and somewhat heavy, and definitely addressed to you, in your father’s telltale script.

Wasting no time, you open the envelope, pulling out the actual letter along with several photographs. All of them have your father in them, in one way or another- in his trademark suit, along with a straight black cane he seems to be sporting.

The cane itself surprises you, as you no sign of a cast of any sort on his leg- as always, your father is a bit of an enigma. Shuffling through the photos, you see in him front of the Norihime Corporation Headquarters with some old men and Maru in a all-black uniform; One close up of him smiling to the backdrop of the skyline of the Capital; several photographs of a scale model of Konoha; and finally one with a man slightly younger than him at his side- both men are laughing at some unheard joke. The man is immaculately dressed in traditional garb, his long hair tied back, accentuating his sharp features. The picture itself seems to have been taken within lavishly furnished building; it certainly doesn’t look like Headquarters or Father’s penthouse….

Which means one thing- this picture is of Father and the Fire Daimyo.

You aren’t sure if you should be laughing or sighing at your Father and his natural need to show off.

Resting your head against your good arm, you settle in to read the letter.

To my brilliant and lovely daughter,

Greetings from the Capital my dear! In many ways, I hate this place as much as I love it, but such is the nature of these bastions of civilization. It reminds me of my younger years, running around making backroom deals and schmoozing with rich old men and widows to secure funding… I swear, this place doesn’t sleep! Your mother and I had such a good time here; but listen to me ramble! I wanted to write you to keep you up to speed on events they unfold.

First of all, I was able to secure the funding needed for Konoha’s restoration. The board of trustees were skeptical at first, but those old codgers have always listened to me in the end- piece of cake! Depending on how we choose to invest, I may need to pull money from other areas, but it will all work out! Business is going well, and I took the chance to look into any current contracts that might become toxic in the near future, and took the liberty of giving them the veto stamp. As always, I won’t go into specifics in case this letter is intercepted, but rest assured our family won’t be double dealing in the current conflict.

Also, I get to spend some time with my friend the Daimyo! I spoke to him at length about Konoha’s needs and the upcoming selection, and he’s as eager to be done with it as I am. We also spoke about some urbanization plans for outlying areas near the capital, making transportation easier- truly this man is a visionary! But, most of those things are for another time. I’ve been added to the selection committee for the Hokage by the recommendation of the Daimyo himself, as a “Representative of the People’s Interest”. Can you imagine Danzo’s face? Actually, tell him! I want you to tell me his exact reaction! Anyway, that’s enough about that.

Maru is doing well, though she does miss the quiet comforts of our home. She’s been a dear, scheduling all of my appointments and meetings while I’ve been here- Yoru Norihime arrives, and everyone in the Capital needs a piece of him! Most won’t ever amount to anything- people are often too low energy, or don’t have enough of a vision to capitalize on. Still, enough of them might bear fruit to make it worth it in the end.

Though, I do think this visit will need to come to end shortly. I’ll be back in town for the selection, after all. I’m going to send this letter ahead of me, so expert me back in a few days time after you receive it. There’s so many things for us to talk about, my dear! I want to take you with me when the time for the selection comes, so keep your schedule book clear! It’s time for the next Norihime to thrive within the environment our family is suited to best!

Looking forward to seeing you,
With lots of love and and an eye towards the future,
Your Father,

Yoru Norihime~

I don't know bro

Guysuke is actually pretty cool and i really want to get to know him more before we sweep him under the rug like most anons want to do.

I remember Rock Lee being an option, but him and Sakura might actually have a chance at getting together in this canon so i don't want to touch that yet.

Shino would be a weird pick, and while i'm in favor of getting to know him better i don't think he's really relationship material.

Neji is Dogservent Fuckboi tier.

Also i'm actually really keen on either Hinata or Tsuki getting in on that NaruDong. But at this point it's a long shot.

To be honest based on everyone's desires i'm thinking we might need to wait for some OC's.

Most of the village husbano's belong to some type of clan anyway, so we might have to wait awhile for our dream guy, or maybe not get into a relationship at all.
Being a Princess is hard.

Your father sure does know how to make molehills out of mountains. Illicit double-dealing and backroom bargains? The only person who would believe those things to be commonplace would be Yoru Norihime; now he wants to get you involved?

You audibly sigh, and fold up the letter. But as you do, another small smile creeps across your face. There is a certainly level of intrigue and mystique about it all- and a shinobi should excel in such an environment. The view of the Capital from father’s penthouse was quite mesmerizing as well, at least from what you remember as a small girl. Some fun mixed with business shouldn’t hurt, right?

(Tsuki’s opinion of this all is…?)

1. Like father like daughter- it’s both productive and fun. Such things are rare in life and should be taken advantage of.

2. It’s the family business- it would be counterproductive to avoid it, even if you aren’t as enthusiastic about it as Father might be.

3. You’d much rather focus on being a shinobi than father’s shady business. Let him run it how he wants, as his investment strengthens Konoha.

The more you think about it, the better it sounds. Money is both a path to and a requirement to retain power- and you wouldn’t be where you are today without your father’s fortune. It would be irresponsible of you not to learn your father’s craft as well as your mother’s.

“Good news?” Hinata asks, obviously curious.

“Definitely. He’ll be back soon, and wants me to go with him to the Capital for the selection. His writing implied that it would be happening soon.” You explain.

“I hope it goes well. The longer we’re without a Kage to lead us, the weaker we’ll look to the other nations. If only Lord Fourth had been able to name a successor, we wouldn’t be in this mess.... But I suppose nothing is ever that easy.” She muses.

“Do you have someone you’d like to see become Hokage?” You inquire.

Normally you wouldn’t ask… but Hinata might be a window into Hiashi’s opinion, and that would be valuable information.

She pauses to think for a few moments, before answering.

“Definitely not Itachi-sensei. The stress might kill him, and he still has a lot to teach us. Kakashi might be a good choice- he’s definitely skilled enough. Few shinobi would willingly go one-on-one with the former Kazekage and come out on top. A lot of people think the Fourth was grooming him to be his replacement, as well. He’d probably carry a lot of favor during the selection process. One of the two remaining Sannin might be a good choice as well, although Jiraya-sama is…. rather unreliable. Tsuande-sama has been away from Konoha since long before either of us were born… but she’s a Senju, the granddaughter of the First. She’d be another natural choice, if she was willing. There’s bound to be other names put forward as well, though I can’t imagine who they’d be.” She explains.

“You… didn’t really answer the question, Hinata.” You point out.

She blushes slightly…. and smiles.

“That would be telling, Tsuki-hime. Not that my opinion matters, anyway.”

Your post-dinner conversation covers a variety of topics, but that last exchange came off a bit odd to you. It’s been three seasons since you and Hinata were placed on the same team, and in that time, she’s never withheld information from you. The two of you have become close, of course- and you aren’t upset with her, but…

Whatever. You have a lot more pressing things to worry about than Hinata not wanting to share her preferred choice of Hokage. What a silly thing to be thinking about...

After bidding Hinata goodnight, you head to your room.

Setting father’s letter on the nightstand, you pace quietly around your bed, pondering the day’s events. Between Fuu, Hinata and Father’s letter, you have quite a bit to think about… but more than anything, the deal you made Kaguya and the words of the Four are forefront in your mind. Looking outside, you notice a nearly full moon rising in the twilight sky.

You catch yourself absentmindedly playing with the small porcelain egg tucked under your outfit. Regardless of Kaguya’s motives and intentions, you did promise to help the rabbits- and there’s the matter of the boy on the moon to consider as well.

Sighing, you prepare your sheets similarly to earlier in the day, for your conversation with the Four. Of course, you have no idea if that will work- you still aren’t entirely what’s going to happen.

Just focus your chakra into the egg, right? That’s what she said….

No, you’ve been putting this off enough- if Kaguya truly wants to help them, there would be no reason to give you incorrect instructions or mislead you.

Settling into your bed sheet structure, you pull the egg out from under your clothing, and cradle it’s small form in your hands.

Slowly, you begin to focus your chakra into the egg- but nothing happens.

Undaunted, you focus even harder, pouring more chakra into the egg.

Eventually the egg begins to glow, faintly at first- brighter as you pour more chakra into it.

By the time the egg glows are brightly as a small sun, you’ve worked up a sweat. She didn’t say it would be this exhausting…..!

The begins to shine so brightly you can see little else- it fills your vision almost entirely.

Your body begins to shudder and shake- just how much power is this going to require….?

As if to answer, the egg goes dark, turned off like a light.

The switch is so sudden that you’re eyes cannot adjust- everything is simply darkness.

A faint voice calls out, seeming to originate from the egg, but also every other direction.

It’s cold…..

Why is it so cold?

Your body feels heavy, but yet you’re floating aimlessly in… nothing?

Your eyes flutter open- but it doesn’t make much difference. Black emptiness surrounds you on all sides, but yet- it has no substance.

For what it’s worth, you do seem to be moving in a direction, even if that direction is unknown to you. As the fog recedes and your sense begin to sharpen, panic creeps into the corners of your mind.

Where are you? What was that technique? ….How do you get out?

You pause.

Panic is never the right solution, Tsuki. Everything can be explained…. In some form or another.

You did as you were told, and something opened…. and then what?

The voice you heard; the phrase that activated the technique…

Yomotsu Hirasaka.

It was faint, garbled even- like somebody whispering through a radio with poor signal.

But nevertheless…. Yomotsu Hirasaka.

Is it a name? A place? Is it…. where you are right now?

Too many questions, and yet-

1. You’ll figure this out on your own.

2. You need only ask. Reach out to Kaguya for guidance.

Feh- you must’ve done something wrong. You probably weren’t meant to pass out in the middle of the transportation technique… if that’s what it was.

Time Space Ninjutsu- difficult to learn, and nearly impossible to master. Those skilled in it’s use quickly become exponentially more powerful due to the benefits it grants them; The Second and Fourth Hokage come to mind, although there are others who utilize it.

Was this one of Kaguya’s techniques? That would explain it’s severe cost in chakra- even now, you’re running quite low.

The real question is…. Do you have enough energy to get out?

You fumble a moment to find the egg, thankfully still hanging around your neck, albeit floating freely itself in this strange environment.

Clutching it tightly, you feel it begin to sap more of your chakra, like before. Slowly, but the need is there.

Finish what you started, Tsuki… You can’t stay in this place.

You being feeding chakra into the egg, and in response it begins glowing softly.

Your only source of light, you pour your remaining chakra into it, causing it to glow brighter and brighter.

The egg begins to pull you forward, seemingly acting of it’s own accord. Unsure what to do, you maintain the egg’s chakra feed, hoping that it will be enough to see you through to the end….

Then, a familiar sensation hits you- nausea. You feel like you’re tumbling end over end, rapidly- and you screw your eyes shut, trying to mitigate the effects.

Everything around you changes- and suddenly you’re flying forward at incredible speed. Your senses betray you, yet refuse to open your eyes to see what is happens.

Abruptly, everything ends- you’re laying on your side, cradling the egg. The only thing turning now is your stomach, which revolts against you…..!

~~~
After your stomach has emptied itself, you struggle to your feet. Surprisingly enough, you’re in an open field, with a brightly glowing sun above. Only… everything seems to curve inwards on the edges, creating bizarre, seemingly impossible geometry of an inverted planet. Entire landmasses and oceans are visible in the sky, centered around the shining orb in the center.
You.. need to sit down.
(Sorry, internet died for a hot minute there. Everything is back up and running now!)
You opt to sit and take a breather. As you take in your surroundings, you realize they are far more strange than you initially thought. Beyond the impossible geometry of this place, there also strange floating hunks of barren earth, with buildings of all shapes and sizes carved into them.
This.. is supposed to be the moon? What you had been shown was a barren wasteland; this place is practically verdant by comparison. Beyond the field you’re currently in, a vast forest is visible, not unlike the ones from your early dreams. Had it all been a lie? The wars of man, the rampant destruction? In the distant skies, you can even see similar levels of greenery upon the other landmasses.
Surely, this isn’t the hellscape you’d been sent to liberate Kaguya’s worshipers from….?
It *is* rather empty, though. You don’t hear any birdsong, and no wildlife to speak of…
------------
Hmph. Part of you was hoping there would be somebody here to receive you, but even after waiting patiently, nobody has arrived. Should you set out on your own?
Your stomach grumbles in protest- you’ll need to find some food here too, eventually. Maybe even shelter. Does this strange place experience weather?
Still so many questions…. but eventually, you decide to:
1. Wait. Surely somebody will have noticed your arrival?
2. Head off towards the forests. Can’t hurt, right?
3. Try to find signs of human habitation.
The survival classes you underwent at the academy covered many topics, but they always hammered come two points:
Your immediate concerns when in the wilderness are to create or find shelter, and to secure food and water.
According to what you knew of this place- and the buildings in the sky confirm it- people either live here, or at the very least, once did- the descendants of Kaguya’s second son.
Reason dictates that there should surely be signs of this civilization, even after all this time.
You begin your search in earnest, first locating a large rocky outcropping that juts upwards from the ground- a high point to get the lay of the land. As you climb, you notice something else- the gravity here is lighter than back home. You begin thinking of possible reasons for this, but eventually mentally shelve the topic for a later time- experiments can come after food and a roof over your head.
Scanning the immediate area from your new perch, you’re able to see what looks like an abandoned settlement far to the east, underneath one of the large floating mountains.
Specifically, the largest of them. Squinting to get a clearer view, you can make out a few details of the large structure that is carved into the mountain’s peak. It takes up nearly half of the mountain, and at what seems to be the entrance, a large statue of a horned man stands vigilant, peering down to the world below.
A horned man… although you cannot make out the features clearly, there is a resemblance to Kaguya there, even if it’s just the horns. You’d like to get up there to investigate… but you’ll start with the village underneath. Maybe that will hold some clues?
------
>>
Ugh. Well once again I won't be around for any possible contract vote. If it's possible, count my as a Kaguya vote. If not...well, give Moon Mom a chance, I'd really like to redeem her.
It would be a far more satisfying victory than defeating her and locking her away again.
G'night.
------
The trek to the village is uneventful, beyond the nearly oppressive silence and the lack of any animal life. The Orb in the sky hasn’t moved- does this strange, inverted planet revolve around it?
Hmm.
The village itself holds little in the way of direct evidence- and no food. The buildings are made of stone, seemingly solidly constructed; the sheer number of them that lie in ruins, though, tells a different story. This place was attacked, that much is obvious, but there are no signs of pillaging or bodies- so the attack must have happened a long time ago. The surround environment doesn’t seem to reflect any signs of violence, either.
One of the structures still standing does have a single occupant, however: a strange puppet, fully clothed, with elongated arms that reach down past it’s knees. It’s covered with dust, and the fabric itself is rather worn, showing it’s age. You know very little about puppets however- so you decide not to tamper with it. The last thing you need is to trigger some ancient trap from an abandoned puppet.
You poke around a few more places nearby, but nothing else really stands out. Looking up, you can see the underside of the floating mountain above. It’s subtle, but the hunk of rock seems to be moving- creeping along the skyline. You really are interested in what’s keeping them afloat- is it some sort of chakra-based technology? Although, maybe not- there certainly aren’t any people around to power them.
Grumbling, you head back to the town’s center.
Think, Tsuki… think! There has to be a way to get up to that temple!
As you ruminate on this, however, you catch something moving, just out of sight.
Dropping into a combat stance, you scan your immediate surroundings. Had something been following you this whole time?
You try to track it- but it manages to skirt just outside of your vision, it’s shadow dancing in and out of the shadows cast by the surrounding buildings, weaving closer and closer.
You’re tired. You haven’t eaten and you haven’t rested since coming here- you’re in no shape for a fight.
Eyes darting to the side, you shunshin atop one of the nearby buildings. You’re the only target- might as well try to deprive whatever it is of it’s hiding spots.
You take off towards the open field, your pursuer staying just out of sight. Your blood is pumping in your ears, a lonely percussion beat playing against the silence of this deserted world.
As you reach the border of the field, you spin on your heel to face your attacker- it tries to hide, but the reaction is too slow- it’s the puppet!
But why isn’t it engaging? It could’ve easily made several moves against you by now… is it simply observing you?
Testing your theory, you pause- and sure enough, the puppet ceases it’s erratic movements.
You can still see it, just out of the corner of your eye, as it sits there, watching you.
“Well, are you satisfied? You aren’t as stealthy as a real shinobi, you dusty relic! Ohohohohoh!~” You taunt to nobody in particular.
The puppet doesn’t respond.
You scowl. As fast as you can muster, you spin in place, trying to catch it dead on. This time, however, the puppet doesn’t move.
“Done already? You aren’t quite so threatening when you aren’t darting around everywhere, trying to scare a girl.” You scold.
The puppet rattles in response.
Before you can say anything back, the rattling is joined by a chorus of other rattles, from directly behind you.
Glancing back, you see them- a cadre of puppets, lacking all the dust and wear, descending from the sky.
Oh.
>>
>>1056276
IMO Reach relied too much on emotional gut punches and deaths borne of stupidity and and weird decisions. It was fine otherwise.
>>
>>1056292
I'd have loved it if reach was about the SPARTAN II red team that was every Spartan but blue team. All we got in the books was, they died. Why make new characters when they hadn't fleshed some out already? Black Team got killed by bullshit to tie up loose ends. Grey team similar. Funk playing a survival mode as a Mk3 head Hunter would be fun.
>>
>>1056313
I guess they didn't want to try to stick to the books much, and not be able to properly display the sheer presence and competence of an entire platoon of of Spartan IIs. Basically, they can't program the game-AI to do what they themselves can't comprehend. Hell, it would work better as a movie where 30+ total badasses all work together to create the most kick-ass action flick of all time.
>>
>>1056313
That would have been nice. Hell, a pretty cool idea for a halo game would be to play as one of the groups probably left behind on reach. A sort of linear Halo version of "This war of Mine" where you have to just try and survive as long as you can on a doomed planet with some base building and resources. Hell, make it multiplayer PvE and you have a game that could have some pretty cool procedural story telling.
Completely surrounded, you weigh your options. You have no idea what the combat potential of these things are- but even with the advantage they hold, they have not attacked.
The rattling ceases as all the puppets ready their weapons- and a voice emanates from all the puppets at once. It sounds like a young man, maybe only a bit older than yourself- although the voice distorted by whatever method the puppets use to carry the communication.
“Intruder- You stand upon the ancestral grounds of the noble Otsutsuki clan! We have warned your kind before not to trespass upon these lands- there is nothing for you here! If you do not leave immediately, these constructs will engage and fight without mercy!”
You restrain yourself from releasing a verbal lashing upon him… for now.
“Listen- whoever you think I am, you’re mistaken. Not only have I never been here before, I’ve most certainly never interacted with you or these “constructs” of yours.” You explain.
“Silence! You rabbits know just as well as I that we are the only living creatures remaining on the rock- you could at least come up with a more convincing lie!”
He.. thinks you’re a rabbit?
“You. Aren’t. Listening.” You growl. “I’m not from here. I came from the world below to this place.”
This catches the voice off guard.
“Th-that isn’t possible! All the guarding wards remain in place- and the passage to the world below was destroyed long ago! Even if you had, it’s guarded by a series of traps and guardians- there’s no way somebody could make it through.” The voice stammers.
You hadn’t been aware a passage such as that existed- which means Kaguya wasn’t aware either. How long had it been inactive?
“I… didn’t come that way. I was utilizing a Space-Time technique for transportation and it resulted in me appearing here. I’m most certainly not a rabbit, either.” You explain, slower this time.
The constructs rattle and shake, but the voice is silent.
After a few moments, the voice returns.
“You… refer to ninjutsu? There may just be some legitimacy in your claims- but you must forgive me. My family has been guarding against the minions and machinations of the great evil for a millennia…. And I am the last of them. If I waver in this final hour, our thousand year vigil will have been for naught.”
“I do refer to ninjutsu. As I said, I’ve come from the world below. I would be happy to explain this to you in person, mister…” You say, trying to lead him your way in the conversation.
“...Toneri. Toneri Otsutsuki. I… don’t mean to be unwelcoming.” He relents. “It’s been a long time since my father passed- and I’ve had nothing but these constructs and books to keep me company. Please, allow my servitors to bring you upwards to my castle. However, be warned- if this is some sort of trick, they will strike you down where you stand, miss-”
“Tsuki. Tsuki Norihime.” You respond, cutting him off.
“Very well then, Tsuki. Please, join me above.”
Unlikely in this thread, unless something changes. Internet has been shaky, and slow wargle is slow, and keeps getting distracted/zoning out due to tiredness. I'll likely try to get more of the WORDS with Toneri out of the way, even after the thread ends, so that we can start the next one off with a band, and go right into massive shitposting wars.
Tell him that he may offer us tea and knick knacks, which he could choose to upgrade to dinner. We are hungry after allo
He can carry us if he wants. No puppets.
Servants to carry you everywhere? Not bad, even if they are puppets.
+1 to asking him to prepare tea and refreshments.
“I hope they’re gentle, Mr. Otsutsuki. I am a lady of distinction- I have no intention of being manhandled by your tools.” You announce, trying your best to put on airs.
First impressions are important- the boy has a castle of his own, no matter how lonely or paranoid he is.
“I assure you, no harm will come to you. The constructs will treat you with absolute care.” Toneri’s disembodied voice promises.
“Then I shall deign to have them escort me, with your word. Oh- and if you have any refreshments, that would be lovely. I’m famished- and your moon has little in the way of edibles. Tea would be lovely!” You pout.
“O-of course! I’ll have the constructs prepare us a meal right away.”
You sneer, knowing he cannot see you. This is too easy. Has this boy really been without human contact for this long? You almost feel bad for him.
The constructs contort themselves into a facsimile of a chair…. or a throne. The second one certainly sounds more enticing~
Warily, you approach, seating yourself open the puppet throne. It isn’t comfortable, but as the puppets begin to float, slowly carrying you to the castle above… you don’t really care.
Your smile is as wide as it can be.
Poor Toneri. He's going to end up wrapped around Tsuki's little finger!
>>
>>1056801
Look at our Tsuki, getting like a queen. The littlest cutest thing.
"FEELING like a queen". I hate my phone.
...moonboy would actually make a decent husband.
>>1056801
Aww, he's naive.
We need to be gentle with him, he's like a baby in terms of social ability.
>>
>>1056801
oh no Tsuki's gonna abuse moon boy.
We're gonna pause there for the night, as Wargle is a tired bastard and has been all day.
I'm gonna write up some of the Toneri/Tsuki conversation pieces, and toss them into the thread over the next few days, to minimize WORDS in the next full session, before I archive this thread.
So leave it as is, for now. <3
As always @Wargle for blathering idiocy
Next full thread will either be this weekend or shortly afterwards, but expect smatterings between tomorrow and wednesday.
Feel free to shitpost :^)
So ruthless teasing and flirting, got it
>>
>>1056851
Yes, but don't lie to him or be actually mean at all.
This is basically first contact, we're an alien race to him, more or less.
>>
>>1056834
...I'd be okay with that.
>>
>>1056859
Yah women are weird
>>
>>1056859
A little teasing should be fine though
>>
>>1056887
Oh sure, plenty of teasing and innuendo.
But don't be... all human at him.
You know, like a politician or a CEO or... dad.
Don't do that.
>>
We should say that we could possibly help him no longer be the last while,leaning forward suggestively, then as he stammers we back up and say we can hire help, we're a friend of the Hyuga and Uzamaki
>>
Late to the thread, but with someone new in play, who do we husbando? I'm fine with either Toneri, Neji, or maybe some other political marriage, honestly.
>>
>>1056955
>castle
>army
>the whole fucking moon
>the Tenseigan
Even from a pragmatic standpoint, Toneri easily hits a lot of the right notes for being a worthy suitor of the Norihime Heiress.
The real factor here is whether we're mutually interested or not.
>>
Still reading through the archives but wanted to stop by to say that I like he story Wargle
Tenseigan is on the exterior of the moon, we're inside right now.
Darn, missed thread again, well thanks for the quest Wargle. Side note if we do husbando Toneri do we steal him some hyuga eyes? Or Clone him some?
Also, I'm gonna be archiving the thread now. Let it go a little too long, but thankfully /qst/ is deadly slow.
Let the hate flow through you~
That's the good thing about /qst/ vs /tg/, here a thread can get up to the 1000's before dying
