In a time of global crisis, the elite international task force Overwatch formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. For a generation, the heroes of Overwatch protected the world, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and finally disbanded. Without them, world conflict and terror rose again. Governments weakened by strife ceded power to mega-corporations and private security forces. Some omnics returned to war with humans, while others remained peaceful but faced fear and violence. Overwatch was goneā€¦but the world still needed heroes.

You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. Recently you encountered the re-formed Overwatch: a grand title for two ex-agents, Winston and Tracer, operating as outlaws out of an abandoned Watchpoint. Despite their down-and-out-status, or perhaps because of it, you were inspired to join them. You left your old life behind to become the first recruit of the new Overwatch.

Now you and Tracer are travelling the globe, defending the people of the world from harm and searching for potential agents to rebuild Overwatch. The world needs heroes. Maybe you can be one of them.

Previously on Overwatch Quest:

The Watchpoint is under attack! You and the team were settling in for a movie night, your first social event, when the main generator stopped, the alarms went off, and something exploded. Whoever's invading the base, they're ruining your chance to hang out with Tracer and Mercy! Oh, and they might kill you all, blow up the Watchpoint, and end the new Overwatch before it even really begins. That's important too.

The boom of a second explosion resounds through the air, then a third.

"Detecting breaches," says Athena. "Launch gantry. Server mainframe. Laboratory. They've done something to me in the mainframe, I can't -- kzzt -- zzzttzz --"

"Athena?" you say. No response. "Damn. Okay. Winston, how far are you along on those defense upgrades?"

"I've installed security cameras throughout the base," he says, pulling up the feed on his datapad, then scowling in frustration. "Which are currently hacked and unavailable. I installed new electronic countermeasures against the type of attack they used last time, but this is something new. Recognize this?" he asks you, showing you the symbol that's appeared on his pad.

An all-too-familiar purple skull. "Oh. Yeah, I've had run-ins with her before. We better assume the cameras are toast for now. Anything else?"

"Security doors for the vulnerable rooms. They should have automatically closed and locked when the incursion was detected."

"That's good, but if these guys have breaching charges that can blast through a cliff, we have to assume they can get through those doors too." You try to think over the situation. "How many do you think they are?"

"They sent six operatives and an agent last time," says Winston. "Some kind of ghost in a black hood. He was dangerous enough himself. They've probably sent a stronger force this time ..."

You notice out of the corner of your eye that, as Winston mentions a "ghost in a black hood" Mercy visibly reacts in shock, then forces her emotions under control. Okay, that's something you'll make a note of for later, but you've got other things to deal with right now.

Watchpoint Gibraltar Status:

Defenses: 1
Security: 0/1 (Hacked)
Soldiers: 0

Tech Sector:

Engineering:

Agent Roles:

Overwatch agents are assigned to four roles, roughly categorizing their weapons, skills, and specialties.

Offense agents have high damage potential and either range or mobility, making them excellent scouts, duelists, and objective takers.

Defense agents excel at guarding locations, denying ground, and restricting the enemy's actions.

Tank agents are the front line of combat, protecting allies and disrupting enemies. They have high survivability and abilities that protect themselves and others such as shields or crowd control.

Support agents heal and strengthen their fellow agents. They improve team performance and increase survivability, but are the worst fighters and work best when paired with teammates.

Prepare your defenses:

Offense: Seeker, McCree, Tracer
Defense: Bastion
Tank: Reinhardt, Winston
Support: Mercy

Something tells me that this will take a while to debate on.

For starters, I think Bastion should go to either Hangar 18 or launch, those sound like flatish, open areas perfect for a killzone.

How far are some of these places anyway? Good to pair the faster characters with areas that are far away.

That's the door between the Hangar and Launch Sector. Here's the Hangar, with the parked Aurora.

Right now you're in the Launch Sector, in a room just off to the right of the first picture. Each area is farther away according to that list, so Tech is the farthest away.

Actually, no. Original configuration. Once Reinhardt has his armour, we can get him to go down to the Launch Sector, since Mercy and Reinhardt sounds vicious. Once Reinhardt arrives, Tracer hauls that cute ass to the Tech Sector, since that's the comms, which is likely the main target. That's my new plan, it probably won't survive contact with the enemy.

"Mercy," you say. "You need to stay with Torbjorn. We can't let anything happen to him while he's still disabled. Tracer, can you stay here and keep them safe?"

Tracer nods. "I'll do me best."

"Bastion," you say to your robot buddy. "Can you help us out? Some bad guys are here. You remember where the Aurora is, right? I need you to go there and stop them from breaking anything. Can you do that, pal?"

The robot beeps affirmatively.

"Winston, can you go with him? You're like, the tech guy, it makes sense to me you should go with the robot."

The gorilla adjusts his glasses. "This is highly irregular, but ... what is science but exploration of the unknown? Come along, "Bastion". We'll see to the hangar."

"McCree, get Reinhardt to his armor in the forge. Keep him safe while he suits up. Then cover his back while he smashes things."

"Got it," he says. "You ready, old feller?"

"They shall soon feel my hammer," announces Reinhardt.

"That still leaves you," says Tracer. "What about you?"

You spin your weapon into gun form. "Somebody's got to take the lab."
>>

The team rolls out. Tracer and Mercy split off for the medbay. You range ahead of the others as you enter the hangar, and begin running for Winston's laboratory, at the other end of the base. As you run, you activate your comm link and listen to your team.

"Baddies here," says Tracer, her voice crackling with interference. "Talon operatives, just in case we weren't sure yet. Takin' these wankers out. Give me the boost, Mercy!"

Winston says, "Nothing so far. Remaining vigilant." You hear the sound of Bastion transforming in the background.

McCree says, "All quiet fer now. Reinhardt's going down to his armor. Wait -- damn, here they come! Hurry it up, old man!" You hear McCree's revolver firing. "I'll hold 'em off, just get that bucket of bolts on already--"

You hear an explosion from back at the launch zone. "Err, that was some of the fuel," says Tracer. "Sorry about that. We're okay, though. Keepin' it up. Some of the baddies have energy shields!"

"What, like Reinhardt's?" you ask.

"Sort of. Smaller. They can't keep up with me. I got this, mate, don't worry."

"We cut off their launchpad team from the hangar," says Winston. "They've stopped trying. No breaches here yet. Should Bastion and I stay here or reinforce another area?"

"I don't trust them," you say. "It feels like a diversion. Stand your ground. We have to maintain security of the entire base."

"Roger," says Winston.

"McCree?" you ask.

"Doin' good," he replies. "Reinhardt's saddled up and takin' it to 'em. Ouch! I wouldn't have wanted to be that feller."

"Tracer?"

"Little busy!" she shouts over the rapid-fire sound of her pistols.

Okay. You don't have time to worry about your team anymore. You're here at the laboratory, and it's time for your own mission.

The blast door is sealed, but it's a model you're already familiar with from your former line of work, and you break through it without much trouble. Silently, you slip into the lab.

Inside you find a squad of Talon operatives, equipped with laser-sight rifles, basic body armor, and ballistic helmets with advanced optics. They're standing perimeter around the center of the lab, like they're guarding something. To figure out what's going on in here, you'll have to get past them.

No time for stealth or subtlety. You trigger your graviton boots and leap up to the second-floor catwalk, where you open up with a blast of fire from your gun. The operatives aren't expecting an attack from that direction, and two of them get tagged before they find cover behind Winston's equipment. Their laser sights swing ominously in your direction, and you duck behind the glass window of Winston's second-floor office, praying that the glass is bulletproof. It is, you see with a sigh of relief as the bullets impact the window, cracking but not breaking it.

You start reloading your gun when a chill crawls up your spine. You look over to see a sinister-looking cloud of black smoke flow up from the ground floor onto the catwalk. The smoke swirls, coalesces into a human shape, and materializes into a man in a skull mask and a dark hood. "You?" he asks in a gravelly voice. "Hrr hrr hrr. I'm going to enjoy this." From inside his jacket he takes out two gigantic shotguns, one in each hand.

"You're the new kid, right?" growls the skull-masked man. "Time for some hazing."

He pulls the trigger, but you're already gone, throwing yourself from the second floor onto the ground. You land, use your momentum to combat roll behind Winston's desk as shotgun pellets impact the ground behind you. Spinning your weapon into sword form, you attack the nearest Talon operative. He dodges with the reflexes of a well-trained soldier and cracks you in the chin with the butt of his assault rifle. You reel in pain but manage to grab his arm with your left hand and balance yourself. The two of you trade blows a second time before you're able to stab your sword into his stomach. The plasma blade sizzles and burns, and you withdraw it, letting the Talon soldier flop to the ground.

When you get a chance, you peek your head up above the desk. There's only two of the operatives remaining. You raise your gun and open fire, but you can't aim properly under this suppression. Your first barrage goes wide, and you're forced to duck back down to reload. "C'mon, c'mon ..." you mutter to yourself as bullets whiz overhead. You pop up and fire again. This time you catch both of your targets, and they fall to the ground.

"Nice shotguns," you call out to him. "You trying to copy Gabriel Reyes or something?"

He growls. "You have no idea what you're dealing with, kid." He slowly walks forward, shotguns ready. "Overwatch was dead. You should have let it stay that way."

While he's talking, you're searching the corpse of the Talon operative in front of you for some kind of weapon. These guys seem well-equipped, they must have something on them. He does have a grenade, which you quickly snatch up.

Actually I'm switching to just throwing the grenade, fuck it.
>>
You press down the activator on the grenade and throw it. It lands right at the man's feet, the little red light blinking rapidly. He looks down at it. "Hmmm," he says, thoughtfully. The grenade explodes in a dense blast of fragments.

"Yes!" you say, pumping your first.

The blast clears, revealing a cloud of dark smoke where the man stood. The smoke swirls, then races across the ground in your direction, around the side of the desk, and re-forms itself into the dark soldier. "Nice try," he says, levelling his shotguns at your face.

Dammit.

IT"S HAPPENING
>>
You duck and spin to the side just as he pulls the trigger. The world feels like it's in slow motion. You can almost see each individual shotgun pellet slam into the ground. You jump up and backwards, landing on the desk and dodging a second shot. Then you do a sweet backflip, jumping over a third shot -- while rotating in midair, you aim your gun at an upside-down Reaper and pull the trigger -- a barrage strikes him in the chest, and he staggers.

You land in what you hope is a cool pose. "Had enough yet, Hot Topic?"

He vaults of the desk and chases after you, firing one shotgun after the other. You weave between shots like a dancer. "Hold still, dammit -- hrrngh--!!"

"If I took off that mask," you ask him, dodging one shotgun blast after another. "Would you die? I bet it would be extremely painful, but you're a big guy--"

"For you!" growls skull mask, blasting away.

"A big guy for me?!" you ask, feigning shock as you dance away from his firing line. "Whatever you do in your personal life, pal, that's no business of mine--"

"Rrrraaaaargh!!!" he shouts. Click! Click! His guns are empty. He tosses them aside--

"Sorry pal," you say, levelling your own gun directly at his face, barely a foot away. "Get your own guns next time instead of ripping off a hero."

BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAM! You empty your entire magazine point-blank into the skull mask. The mask shatters, cracks, and drops to the ground. The man screams in agony, dissolving into a cloud of black smoke that begins to slowly drift away.

"Get out of my base," you tell the smoke cloud.

"Oh, I just kicked that ghost man's ass," you say, nonchalant. "No big deal."

"You wot?!" asks Tracer. "Reaper was there? Why didn't you call for backup?"

"Oh, ummm--" You don't want to say, because I wanted to impress you guys. "I had the situation under control, I didn't want to weaken any of our other defenses. How are we doing? Battle status?"

"Tangoes down. Launch sector is clear," says Tracer. "I've taken care of my guys. Took a few hits, but Mercy kept me going."

"All done here," says McCree. "Engineering is under control."

"We're fine here," says Winston. "They never attacked the hangar, but er, it's good that we had it defended, just in case." He sounds relieved to have avoided the fighting. From what you remember, Winston isn't a coward, but he doesn't like to hurt anyone, even Talon operatives.

"So we're done?" you say. "In the clear?"

"Looks like it," says Tracer. "Once Winston gets Athener online, we'll know for sure."

You squat down to collect the fragments of ghost man's mask. You're not sure if this will be useful for anything, but if nothing else, it will make a good trophy. "All right," you say to Tracer. "I'm on my way to the server room."

While the others reconvene and get their wounds attended to by Mercy, you and Winston head to the computer mainframe.

You rub your jaw and move it back and forth. It's not broken, just painful. In the end, that ghost guy -- Reaper, Tracer called him -- never even laid a shot on you. It was just that one Talon operative that landed a couple of good shots. You never know when a flunky is going to step up to the plate, you think.

"I can deal with this myself," says Winston. He has a datapad hooked into the computer and is trying to undo the hack on Athena. "You should get that looked at by Mercy."

"I'm fine," you say. "This is more important."

"Well, okay. It's true that Athena is vital to our operation." Winston sits down on the ground, shifts the datapad to one of his prehensile feet, and types with both hands. He scowls. "I thought that I had upgraded her security enough, but obviously not. I blame myself for all this."

"It's all right, big guy," you say. "I know the hacker who was behind this. She's good. Real good. Not much you could have done, I bet. What about about that spooky ghost guy? Do you know anything? I heard the rumors, but I never thought they were true. I mean, a Talon agent who can turn into a shadowy smoke cloud? The world is a weird place, but I didn't think it was that weird."

"Tracer and I have been calling him "Reaper,"" says Winston. "We've run into him a number of times over the past few months. We don't know anything about him, other than he's some kind of elite assassin, and he started working for Talon a few years ago."

"His guns look like ones Gabriel Reyes used to carry, right? The disposable shotguns."

"That's true," says Winston. "Reyes carried a shotgun replicator. Talon must have stolen the technology from us somehow."

"That makes sense," you say, wondering if that's really the whole story. "Oh, right. What happened with the Bastion?"

"He was quite cooperative," says Winston. "I asked him to set up in sentry form in a certain spot, and he did so. Then the Talon operatives from the launch zone tried to take refuge inside, so I told Bastion to fire over their heads and scare them off. He did that too."

"Nice," you say. "I've got a good feeling about that bot, you know? I think he could actually be a team member."

"That's quite unusual," says Winston, looking up from his datapad. "But not without precedent. Overwatch does, after all, contain the Earth's only talking gorilla, its only victim of chronology damage, its last remaining Crusader ... Overwatch is a good place for people who, er. Well. You know." He goes back to typing.

People who don't have anybody, you think. I get you, Winston.

You're a little afraid it might be too much, but this seems like the sort of situation to go all the way. It's a bit of a stretch, but you manage to wrap your arms around Winston from behind. "We've got each other," you tell him.

He freezes up a little. You wonder when the last time was he'd been touched other than in a battle. "Th-thanks, Seeker," he says, pushing up his glasses. He wipes at one eye. Is that a tear? "I-I've got this for now. Why don't you go see how the others are doing?"

"Okay, big guy," you say, figuring you should give him some space. "I'll talk to you later."

Later, back in the movie room:

"Hahaha! You see?" You point at the screen showing your first-person replay of the battle earlier. "Right in his face! Kablammo!"

Tracer says eagerly, "Show it again!"

"Again!" shouts Reinhardt. "Again!!"

"Okay!"

Everyone else appreciated it the first time, and has since drifted off to discuss the evening's events. You, Tracer, and Reinhardt watch the replay for the seventh time. "Kablammo!" you shout again.

Tracer claps gleefully. Reinhardt shouts, "Glorious victory!"

"That's enough for now," you say, shutting off the video. "Don't want it to get boring. We'll save it for the highlight reel. I've got to see Mercy."

You walk towards Mercy's medbay, intending to get your cuts and bruises taken care of. As you walk, part of you is trying to think of more snazzy one-liners for your next battle against Talon. The other part is concerned with the battle part. Talon will surely try an assault like this again in the future. What are you going to do about it now?

You could leave, but where else could Overwatch find a base like this to sustain itself? You have so few resources right now ...

You take out your datapad and turn it on. "Athena, you there?"

"Hello, Seeker," she says, her logo appearing on screen.

"Glad to have you back with us," you say. "Doing all right?"

"It is a most unpleasant experience being hacked," she says. "But I am "all right." How can I assist you?"

"We need to talk about our defenses," you say, entering the medbay. "Talon's going to try this again. We did good tonight, but we can't rely on that in the future. We need to be ready."

"I agree," says Mercy, looking over. "Excellent work, tonight, Seeker. Do you need something? I thought G-- Reaper wasn't able to hurt you at all? You did those, er. What did you call them. "Badass moves.""

Did she start to say something other than "Reaper"? No, you're probably just tired. "He didn't," you say. "One of those punks hit me in the face. Guess you can never tell when a minion is going to step up and get the job done."

"All right, I'll get you patched up. Mask off, please."

You take off your mask and set it aside, noticing the crack. Need to get that repaired later.

Mercy leans in and examines your split lip. You wonder if you'll ever get used to her doing this. Tracer is cute and lively, but Mercy's objectively beautiful in a way that most humans don't even approach. According to the records, she's supposed to be 37 years old, but she doesn't look a day over 20.

"What do you think we should do about all this?" you ask her. "Talon, I mean. According to Winston, Reaper was here a few weeks ago with a smaller squad. Widowmaker showed up in Zurich to tell you to stop. Now this attack. They're not going to stop here. They're going to keep trying."

"It's not exactly my area of expertise," she says, holding a compact device near your face that glows with the yellow light of biotic healing. "But ... I don't think we should run."

"You don't? I mean, they're going to keep coming after us."

"That's right," she says. "They're going to keep coming, no matter where we go. We can only hide for so long. I'm only the medic, but ... I say that we make our stand here. That we fortify the Watchpoint and dare them to come back."

"That's pretty bold for a doctor," you say. "Isn't your concern supposed to be the safety of your patients?"

"When I'm in Overwatch, Seeker, the world is my patient. I have to do what I can to help everyone. And in this case, the way to do that is to stand up to Talon."

"That's ... noble of you, if not super realistic. But I get that. It's like you said. When you're a doctor, you have to be an idealist and a pragmatist at the same time."

"Exactly," she says.

Goodness--I leave for a couple hours to grab sushi and you people get essentially the POTG dunking on Reaper

A couple things--first, have Athena start running diagnostics through her systems at closest convenience. Same for Bastion, too--I doubt this was merely an extermination attack. If she's wormed an exploit into our systems, I'd like it isolated.

It's good that we're getting brownie points with the other heroes--Winston, especially. Big old softie needs a bro.

And on the topic of Sombra--we should tell Winston everything we know about her. It might not be much, but it might be enough to get a lead or two going, see where that goes.

For real, though--wicked save, guys. I was pretty sure we were gonna get ganked for a minute reading through that and Mercy woulda had to rez us.

You take your datapad off to a quiet corner of the Watchpoint. You plug in some headphones and turn on Lucio's singles. Lucio's a DJ in Brazil, equally famous for his huge following accumulated with only live shows, and for his outspoken anti-corporate political beliefs. He's been working on a album for two years, Synaesthesia Auditiva, supposed to be some kind of national epic for Brazil. You're not sure about that, but the two singles he's released ahead of time are super catchy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmDCt3JHNqI

Your foot taps to chill beats as Athena brings up a schematic of the Watchpoint.

"Okay, Athena. Let's figure this out."
>>
>>1052079
You could also say he got kicked off his high horse...Ok i lied that one was probably the best i would come up with.
>>
There are three ways to defend the Watchpoint. Each can protect you against certain types of threats, but not others, so a balanced approached is best.

Defense represents fortifications and gun emplacements, ways to protect yourself from a straight-forward physical assault.

Security represents electronic and information warfare, protecting against stealth and hacking, and predicting threats before they happen.

Soldiers are armed staff. They are versatile, capable of both patrolling to increase security and fighting to defend the base, but also have extra vulnerabilities.

Scraping together what remains of your personal fortune, you have enough money for 2 of these upgrades.
Defense Upgrades:

Defense Turrets: Basic automated machine guns.
Anti-Aircraft Battery: Defend against enemy aircraft and missiles.
Blast Shields: Enemy breach charges are less effective.

Security Upgrades:

Darknet Analysis: Monitor enemy activity and communications. May predict events before they occur.
Scanners: Improved threat detection system, perimeter + interior.
Firewall: Increased Athena defense vs hacking.
Hack Function: Athena can hack enemies.

Soldiers:

Hire foot soldiers for security staff, base defense, and in a pinch, fieldwork.
>>
>>1052813

We'll get more down the line. No extra soldiers mean we still keep a low profile. We also don't want Athena getting hacked again.

With Sombra with them any kind of mechanical defense is going be useless; our best bet should be to detect attacks ahead of time so we can dig in and prepare for them and of course you can't hack flesh.
>>
>>1052813
Anti-Aircraft Battery: Defend against enemy aircraft and missiles.
Firewall: Increased Athena defense vs hacking.

AA because we are on Gibraltar, an island. the fastest way to get to an island is air. if we force them the go the sea routes either through Spain or Morocco, its easier for Athena to know about it and we can counter.

As a collorary to that we need Athena up, so she need to be protected from hacking. We saw how bad our defences were during the attack, and a mook might get lucky again.

"The first thing," you say to Athena. "Is to get your firewall upgraded. I'm sure we both agree that you being hacked again is a vulnerability we don't need."

"Agreed. Maintaining control over electronic security is paramount. And as for myself, being hacked is an experience I'm eager to avoid repeating."

"Yeah, I can't imagine it's pleasant," you say. You think for a few minutes about what else to get. You can only afford one other thing for now. You come to decision and say, "I think we should get an anti-aircraft gun. I'm tempted to hire some soldiers, or buy you that Darknet Analysis function. But out here on the peninsula, the fastest way for anyone to get here is by air. I think we should prepare for that, and have a big gun ready to shoot them down before they can even get here."

Athena shows you a few schematics for anti-aircraft guns. "That one looks good," you say, tapping the screen. "A good old-fashioned ack-ack."

"Beginning scan of world black market," says Athena. "Any contacts of your own you might share with me?"

"For an ack-ack? Hell no," you say. "For the firewall, well ... no. I mean, yes, but I don't trust them. I could contact Hackercat, but I suspect that little pest would throw in a virus for my trouble."

"Forget it," you say. "I only use Hackercat when I'm desperate."

"What is ... Hackercat?" Athena asks you.

"To be honest, I don't know. I haven't figured out if it's a person pretending to be a cat, or a cat pretending to be a person. Either way, she sells black market program functions." You think a few moments. Part of you wants to change your mind. You'll wait and see how Athena does finding a quality firewall program on your own.

A different idea occurs to you. "Maybe I can get in touch with one of my old Russian friends. They might have some military salvage ...

"Oh, right. What about base upgrades? You've still got that equipment requisitioned for Mercy to build her a proper medical facility?"

"Correct."

"Hmmm. So once we get some more money, we can get some more security or upgrade the base. I'll have to figure out some way to boost our finances. I could just go out and, you know. Steal some. But I don't think the team would like it if they found out."

"Probably not. I will look into possible revenue sources."

"Oh!" you say, snapping your fingers. "I just thought of something. I bet I can put this together for cheap. What about a rec room, or a lounge? We can turn that movie room into a proper place for us to hang out. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. A televid, a bar, a game table ..."

>Yeah! It'll be great.
>On second thought, maybe not. We're an illegal paramilitary group, we should stay focused on the job.
>>
>Forget it.
>>
We should have Athena run a diagnostic scan on herself, whatever we do. First rule of hacking is always leave yourself a back door to get back in.
And piecing together the info about reaper to figure out who he is should totally be a roll at the end of the thread. Jack was also supposed to be dead and isn't. Reaper has the same style, height, build, weapons, accent and bad attitude as gabriel did. There are only a few people on earth who could make Angela slip like that. "Yeah! It'll be great. The mind and spirit need rest, as well as the body," you say. There, that sounds profound. She won't think you're just trying to get a bar on the base so you can have drinks with Mercy and Tracer.

"All right, this one I can figure out myself. Get a couch, a bar, some stools, maybe some arcade machines ... yeah, this will be fun. I bet everyone will enjoy having a place to blow off steam after a mission." You sigh and flop back onto the grass beneath you. "I could sure use one tonight, actually. I'm still keyed up after kicking Reaper's butt."

You stare up at the night sky. Despite being attacked in your own base tonight, you feel a sense of confidence. Things are looking good.

(Actually, I will mention that first one, just because it's an appropriate cliffhanger!)

There is something nagging at you. Just who is this mysterious "Reaper?" There are some odd similarities between him and Gabriel Reyes, the commander of Blackwatch, the old Overwatch's black ops section. Height, build, the shotgun replicator. But Reyes is dead, killed in the explosion of the Zurich headquarters ...

... or is he? There's someone on this very base who has some kind of barely-explained power to bring the dead back to life. Mercy, bearer of the Ultimate: Resurrection. She also reacted strangely a few times when Reaper was brought up. Could it really be--

No. No way. Couldn't be.

Fate/Stay Again was a quest on the /tg/ that can't exactly be accurately described, but needs to be experienced to be understood.

Perhaps the best example of the quest's hilarity can be summed up in this quote from arguably the most (in)famous thread of the quest:

>>Shirou fails to fix a bike with magic
>>Shirou fails to fix a bike with his hands
>>Now Shirou's on fire
>>Flashback starts
>>Shirou's on fire there too
>>The fire burns almost as hot as our failures.
>>I can't breathe I'm laughing so hard

>>1054651

Arguably I don't think people would be that cool going about it. It'd probably look something like

>Talon operative and Seeker are sitting across from each other in the makeshift interrogation room
>Seeker, very cooly and serious as a sealed STI test results letter, plonks down a Gabriel Reyes action figure on the table
>"Have you seen this man?"
>Bewildered, the operative looks at the action figure, then back at Seeker
>Then back at the action figure, then back at Seeker
>Then looks at the double-sided mirror, then the door
>He is only now beginning to question his life choices as an Overwatch operative sits in front of him, hoping that he can distinguish the squished plastic features on an action figure for someone to which he is apparently under employment

The next morning:

A team of repair drones, directed by Brigitte and the recovering Torbjorn, begins work repairing the explosive breaches Talon blasted into the outer walls.

You help Winston scan Athena and Bastion for potential viruses or back doors left by Sombra. The scans come up clean. If she did leave something, you can't detect it.

Scans of Reaper's broken mask don't reveal any bugs or secrets, just armored plating. This is definitely going in the trophy room, you think. Do we have a trophy room? If not, we should make one.

You ask Athena to catch you up on world events.

The first thing she shows you is pictures of Mercy and Reinhardt, taken in action by civilians during the Titan mech attack in Kurjikstan. These pictures were dismissed as a hoax at first, but are now spreading across the web. The most popular one is a dramatic angle of Reinhardt with his shield raised, protecting two civilians from enemy fire.

Many still don't believe the pictures are real. Others are arguing over what it means. Is Overwatch back? Are they imposters? Either way, the people who survived thanks to their efforts have been emphatic in their support, and local public opinion has swayed in your favor.

In Japan, there is no further word from or evidence of Genji Shimada, cyborg ninja and ex-agent. However, Athena brings your attention to the Shimada clan.

"That's Genji's family who tried to kill him or something, right? Can you remind me of how that all went down?"

Athena shows you pictures of the Shimada Clan's corporate headquarters in Hanamura, Japan; a young Genji before he became a cyborg, a smirking, green-haired punk; and Hanzo Shimada, Genij's older brother, a stern, bearded man in traditional Japanese clothing.

"Genji was once the young scion of the Shimadas, criminal syndicate and ninja clan. When his behavior gave insult to the clan, they ordered his older brother, Hanzo, to kill him. He was only partly successful. Due to the efforts of our own Dr. Angela Ziegler, Genji's life was saved at the cost of extensive cyberization. He would later graduate Overwatch class 7 along with Lena Oxton and Winston and join the agency."

"Right, okay. So what's up with his clan?"

Athena tells you about some of the moves she's detected the Shimada clan making behind the scenes. Apparently their current power and influence is not enough. If the cards of their latest scheme fall into place, they may soon control the Japanese government itself from the shadows.

"Wouldn't surprise me if Genji found out, and was trying to stop them," you say. "What about his brother, Hanzo? Is he involved?"

"Unknown. After the incident with his brother, he left the clan. He has mostly lived off the grid since then."

The Junkers, Roadhog and Junkrat, are now the prime suspects in yesterday's bombing of Hyde Global's Sydney headquarters. Athena shows you a picture of a fancy corporate skyscraper exploding, alongside mugshots of the Junkers. Privately, you somewhat like the idea of blowing those fat cats in Hyde Global to kingdom come. They're scumbags like the rest of those megacorp slime. Maybe those Junkers aren't so bad. As long as there was minimized civilian property damage. You scroll down the article ...

In Rio de Janeiro, anti-corporate unrest continues to rise. Vishkar Corp is rumored to soon announce plans for new developments that will involve demolishing houses in the favelas and poor neighborhoods. The outspoken musician Lucio has already raised vocal objections on the people's behalf.

The last thing Athena mentions is a strange signal she's receiving from Ecopoint Antarctica.
The Ecopoints were bases establised by the old Overwatch to monitor global climate shift. This base was abandoned years ago, before Overwatch ever disbanded, when it was struck by a polar storm, completely burying the base. Apparently something is re-awakening there to the point where Athena's receiving a transmission. It's just a ping, it doesn't contain any information. But it still might worth investgating.

Japan is the important thing. Normally you have some sympathy for other criminals, but the Shimada clan is out of control. Something needs to be done about them. It also would be a good opportunity to find out what happened to Genji, and get him on the team. Maybe you'd even run into his brother Hanzo, who's apparently an archer of unparalleled skill. Might be awkward trying to have both brothers on the team, though, after that whole I-killed-you-because-dad-told-me-to thing.

You'd also really like to check out that signal in Antarctica, though. Winston is still busy working on his satellite, but despite that, you have enough agents to send out two smaller teams at once. However, you still only have one plane.

Perhaps you can use the Aurora to check out Antarctica, while you use civilian transport to send a team to Japan. Although that rules out Reinhardt for the Japan team, as you have no idea how to disguise that man. And Tracer's still the only one here who can pilot the Aurora.

You go back and forth on this, but in the end you decide to send Tracer to Antarctica in the Aurora, while you go to Hanamura. You have enough agents to take with you that you'll be fine, even though it might be weird doing your first mission without her.

Winston should probably stay behind to keep working on his satellite. That means you can probably afford to send Reinhardt with Tracer. He can't come with you, after all -- getting the big man incognito through a Japanese airport would be impossible.

You're pretty confident you want to bring Mercy and McCree with you to Japan, while you leave Bastion at the base. The only question is what Torbjorn should be up to. Maybe you'll ask the man himself later and get his opinion. You also haven't had a chance to properly introduce yourself to him, so two birds with one stone there.

You'll also have to mention to Tracer that it will be weird doing a mission without her.
>>
(OK, and because we haven't had enough contentious votes for tonight, it's time for one more!)

While you're still thinking it over, Winston calls you on the communicator. "Could you stop by my lab?" he asks you. "I've got an idea."

"I was working on a side project in my off hours," Winston explains after you arrive. He seems excited. "You call it the Barrier Shield. When I created it, the primary concern was power at that scale. So I took the reactor design from my Tesla Cannon and miniaturized it. It's a device I call the "Tesla Core." And here's the thing. As you know, we engineers love our redundancies. So I made a second one."

Winston takes out a spherical containment device, about the size of a plum. Inside is a tiny reactor that crackles with bright blue lightning.

"I've been looking over the schematics for your Ares M-Tech gear, and how modular it is. Ares Corp made a lot of their tech highly modifiable, so you could use one tool for different tasks, depending on how it was powered. That came in handy when we installed your Ultimate charger.

"But I think that we can take it to another level. With a little jury-rigging on our part, we can attach the second Tesla Core to a piece of your gear. Depending on what gear you select, it should have different effects. Installed in a weapon, you'd gain access to some form of electromagnetic wave flux, like my Tesla Cannon. In your armor, it would give you access to a hexagonally tesselated energy field, like my barrier."

"So ... you're saying I can amp my gear up with either lightning or a force shield?"

"That's the short version, yes."

"Let's get these hooked up to the graviton link in my boots," you say. "If what you're saying about the force field is right, I think I have an idea."

You and Winston spend the morning with your gravity boots on his work table, discussing the finer points of gravimetric analysis, electromagnetic field inhibitors, and graviton actuator engineering.

The two of you break for lunch. Most of the work is complete, it just requires testing.

Over lunch, you talk to Winston about ...

>The moon. Did he really grow up there?

"I'm thinking we might go to Hanamura next," you say. "Genji's probably still there, somewhere. What can you tell me about him? Athena mentioned you two were in the same recruit class?"

"That's right, we both joined up at about the same time. Genji, Tracer, and myself, we all went through Overwatch "boot camp" together. Those were good times. It's kind of a shame you missed out on that experience. Not that I'm complaining about your performance, you clearly don't need any sort of training, I just mean, er ... it was a bonding experience." He thinks it over for a moment. "At the time, Genji seemed fine, despite what happened to him. He was a rascal. According to his reputation from before the incident, he used to be much more than that. A "playboy" I believe the term is. But even at training camp, with his new body, he still told jokes, chased girls, did his best to enjoy life. It wasn't until later that he started to realize everything that he had lost."

"I think that's part of why we became close. All three of us had lost a great deal. We were all strange, outcast in some way. Genji had just become a cyborg. Lena had become un-stuck in time, and it took months of my research to build that chronal accelerator for her. And myself, well ..." He adjusts his glasses. "It wasn't long before then that I had just arrived here on Earth for the first time."

(Continued)
>>
"That's right," you say, thinking back. "You grew up on the moon. That's pretty crazy."

"Yes ... Horizon Lunar Colony, that was my home. At the time, the proudest achievement of Lucheng Interstellar."

Lucheng. Of course. You should've expected that name to come up in a conversation about the moon base, but still hits you like a punch in the gut. You force yourself to stay casual. Not going to go there now. Focus on the conversation.

Winston is continuing on. "... with myself, the scientists, and the other gorillas. I wasn't very old before I felt more at home with the first group than the second. Supposedly I exhibited unusually rapid brain development from the gene therapy, so that might explain that."

"What happened?" you ask him. "I remember on the news, something about a ... an uprising?" It's probably better to just attribute your information to the news and move on.

"That's one way of putting it. Several of the other test subjects responded abnormally to the gene therapy. Some had to be confined and restrained. Heavily restrained. Finally they broke free, and ..." He trails off, then shakes his head, avoiding bad memories. "I escaped. Alone. Came to Earth. I didn't know what I was going to do. But Overwatch, they -- they offered me a place where I could stay. It became my new home."

"I can see why it means a lot to you," you say. You finish your sandwich and stand up. "Why don't we get back to work, big guy? I think we're ready to test this."

Hey guys what sort of build do we have, I always imagined lean and tall.

Aesthetic wise do you like tron lines? Glowy spirals? How about our spray? What is projected on our daft punk helmet?
>>
>>1060427
I imagined something like an olympic sprinter's build honestly. All about movement and speed.

I'm indifferent to the tron lines and whatnot.

As for our spray and our helmet projection, I have no real idea.
I assume they'd be whatever our logo is whenever we get around to making one.
>>
>>1060427
I've always imagined the opposite, actually. Short-ish. Compact. Powerful. Explosive bursts of speed and agility right out the gate, sort of thing.

I really like the idea of having some sort of display on our helmet that shows various simplistic emoji-ish faces and whatnot. So we can just have a smiley face on our helmet when we're bantering, or a shocked 'O' face when something unexpected happens. Something along those lines. Probably not going to happen, though.

And tron lines feel a little too sci-fi for us, to be perfectly honest. I prefer the more casual look with the hoodie and the helmet underneath and all that.

Didn't see that coming, I also seemed to forget that this board has actual dice when I posted this but it seems that you guys figured something out.

The same fate as most.
Waifus.

Hope for a swift update to grant us a reprieve from this latest shame.

Raven said that next update is comin on the weekend so sit tight.
>>

Fuck sake, man, Op starts updating as soon as something good comes up my life.

Anyone else think Seeker should have an Overwatch Longcoat in the same style as Morrison's? It strikes me as something thematically appropriate.

Does anyone else on the team know our real name?

Also, Raven said Seeker is "pretty as fuck" right? Anyone want to share some art for his face?
>>
>>1067001
Don't think we should have the coat since it would go against Seeker's whole thing of being agile and moving around. Loose clothing doesn't fit him.
For his face/body just imagine a slightly worse version of Nightwing
>>
>>1067016
Why's he need to be worse?

>>
>>1067032
We could also be dapper as fuck.

That'd be an interesting juxtaposition actually. Seeker dresses quite formally when in civilian clothes. He just likes looking dapper.

Pic related is about as far as I think he'd go to dress in a professional manner.
>>
>>1067056
Ah, but he's done Shadowruns against corps, right? That could call for disguises.

"No one looks at you twice when you wear a suit in a corp building."
>>
>>1067058
Even better, a janitors uniform with a little bit makeup to darken up the skin, hell I'd bet most would assume he didn't speak english with a disguise like that.
>>
>>1067064
Nah. As someone who has worked in high security buildings, Janitors Actually get some pretty impressive security screening. That, and Security was on good terms with the Janitorial Staff so they'd notice if a new guy showed up randomly. But that was just that building.

I just want a dapper Seeker dammit.
>>
>>1067077
We'll probably get a chance to decide our outfit if we ever end up dating one of the crew.
>>
>>1067077
This. I work at a real high up fortune 500 corporate offices doing IT. Everyone's required to wear a name badge with your photo on it, and the badge has an rfid chip in it with all your info.
Everyone knows the security staff on an appearance if not name basis, same with the janitorial staff.
If I needed to infiltrate? I'd create a fake identity and get legit hired on the kitchen staff. Nobody questions those guys if they're pushing around a catering cart. Clearly a meeting ran long and a VP wants drinks and snacks.
>>
>>1067135
Oh and they also get loading dock access. Very important for shadowrunning.
>>
>>1067086
We're probably going to spend some time in civilian environments. When we do, we should dress formally.
>>
>>1067195
Not too formally, Maybe adopt a somewhat gray man approach.
>>
>>1067202
See >>1067036

That's dapper.
>>
>>1067206
I personally just can't get on board with it.
>>
On another note, how did we learn to fight with a sword?

Did we never receive formal training and we've been winging it this entire time? If that's the case, do we want to train with Genji?
>>
>>1067219
Seeker learned his moves from all the martial arts films he watches, except he made it work.
>>
>>1067254
What, the flashy stuff explicitly made to create a show?
>>
>>1067260
Why not? Hell, with his moon shoes Seeker can basically recreate literally ALL the wire-fu ever!
>>
>>1067275
Eh, why not. But we need to upgrade our Moon Boots to a full suit of armor so we can pull off bigger stunts.
>>
>>1067219
Train with Genji, please and thank you.
>>
>>1067478
Isn't Hanzo a better swordsman though.
>>
>>1067692
That's one thing I heard: Hanzo is the better swordsman, while Genji is the better archer. The two of them swapped weapons specifially as a self-handicap.
>>
>>1067775
I'd like to think that because it's been so long since they swapped, they are now better than their counterpart at the weapon they switched to.
>>
>>1067692
He's better but has refused to use a sword ever since he fought Genji
>>

>>

Yes

He just got some minor atonement issues and refuses to use a sword after the Xbox incident
>>
>>1067001
Seeker would have a fanboy moment if he were to find Morrison's old longcoat in the Watchpoint storage rooms.

>>1074349
And then Tracer walks in.
