/qst/ - Quests

Been a little bit since I've run this. I am back and ready to run more.

Previously
You touched a weird magic thing, your arm is blue now. Got to the college, killed a mutation. Learned about what your affliction could possible be.

i'm not going to kayaba this you fucks

Looped to your belt is the skull of the odd bird creature that the College previously requested you killed. Your party is making their way through the forest back to the college, which in reality is much more. A developed town sprawling around an academy.

In the distance, to the west, you hear clashing. The unmistakable electric feeling of magic can be detected in that direction, but you decide not to investigate at least until you return to the academy. Once you break through the treeline, you can't help but notice a rippling effect in the air at the threshold of the town. You cannot, however, determine what the use is.

Dismissing the curiosity, you decide you've stalled enough. The sounds of combat still continue, though slightly further out. The sun is low in the sky, and you only just realize how much time you spent on the trek to and from the river. You go to the Academy and show the proof of the kill, and they take it graciously.

Now that you've completed your mission, you have some more free time. What do?

Your party is just as intrigued by the sounds of clashing as you are, and you head back out into the forest towards the battle. Nissa appears beside your party once more after a short time walking without her. She gives a brief report, "I looked at the battle and it seems to be a moderately sized Crusader group fighting against a scouting party of a different elven tribe."

With that information, you press on with conviction. Where the crusaders go, you will follow, and you will show them the error of their bigoted ways.

You get through to the clearing without much issue, and the scene in front of you is violent and horrible. Bodies of crusaders and elves alike litter the grass, staining it red with their blood. There is a clear path defined by the bodies, at the end of which is a group of five crusaders fighting three elves, and the elves are losing badly.

>What do?

The crusaders don't expect a caster to show up.
Element of surprise, add +2 to any spell roll taken for the first two rounds of combat.

>>1042164
Oh I forgot my spell list. Whoops.

Arcane Bolt - Due to your mastery of basic arcane, you can cast this spell without a roll. You may roll, however, to add effects! Be warned, a low enough roll may result in a negative effect!

Barrier - Mastery of basic arcane, read above.
Due to Sparked Knowledge, your barrier shocks nearby enemies automatically.

Illusory Clones - Mastery of basic arcane, read above.

Rally - DC 10 + 2 per extra target

Lightning Javelin - DC 13

Combustion - DC 13

Invisibility - DC 16

The group of elves fights with very mixed results. One does quite poorly, one does above average, and one is doing exceptionally. (3, 16, 20.)

The crusaders do quite poorly in general, uncoordinated and seemingly recruits. None do exceptionally, and one does barely above average. The rest do quite poorly. (10, 3, 12, 8, 2)

One of the Crusaders falls from the damage taken, as the elves are coordinated enough to focus on one target.

You hold your hands in front of you as if grasping for something, and a web of electric strands appears. It crackles and arcs as it grows quickly to the size of a net that is large enough to entangle four of the Crusaders and damage them heavily.
Success! DC 12. Bonus effect, +1 target per 2 over DC. 18 achieved, 3 bonus targets, 4 stunned.

The crusaders are stunned this turn!

The Crusaders suddenly trapped in the net cry out in surprised, struggling against their seemingly impenetrable bindings. A small flame appears in the air in the center of the group, expanding rapidly and then exploding, the flames trapped in the confines of the net. When you dispel your spells, all that is left of the men are charred remains inside of blackened armor. Sadly, no rosaries to loot as they were burned up in the spell.

The elves look to you and nod in appreciation. They wear odd decorated masks, showing nothing but their eyes. They do not speak, but instead begin to gather what they can of their allies' remains then make their way into the forest.

"That was.. Odd." Syn spoke, looking at you with a surprised look. She wasn't used to you clearing groups of enemies at once, especially not in such a, well, hot manner. Literally, of course.

As you reflect on what had just happened, you realize that there was no mages around. Though, why did you feel such a strong magic source from this area? You glance down to your crystal orb and it has an odd dark glow to it. That.. Doesn't look right.

Four novice Crusaders killed. + 20 EXP
Level up!

Pick a perk.
Illusory Legions You can now create a second illusory clone with ease. Lowered DC in order to make them tangible and combat-ready.

With the odd glow of your scrying source, you can't help but feel uneasy. You look around the clearing but notice nothing out of the ordinary. You're on your guard, when another of the mutated tigers leaps from the foliage. This time, however, its fangs are coated in flame. It has odd orange marks extending through its mottled brown coat, glowing brightly.

When did these fuckers start using the elements?

Caught off guard, you barely have time to get out of the way. Seems you're in for another fight.

You go through the motions, by now very familiar with casting this spell. There's something so satisfying about using the unruly energy that is lightning so easily. You think of how successful your net generally is and get an idea, pushing just a little bit more energy into the spell then slinging it towards the enemy.

The javelin hits its mark easily. In addition to electrocuting the enemy quite heavily, rather than grounding, a small web of lightning netting spread from the feet of the creature onto the ground, effectively keeping it there.

Due to HD5's idea, you've unlocked Tether for your lightning javelin. You can now roll a second dice when casting that spell, and if the second roll exceeds the Electric Net DC, it gains a stunning effect.

The monster roars in agony as the magic keeps it tethered and continually sends shocks through it. Your team uses this to their advantage to attack.

The team go through their regular motions. Syn whipping at the creature, Izuka running in and hacking at it with his conjured weaponry. Kieran uses remains of nearby crusaders to attack momentarily, but his reanimation is shaky and they fall before they can attack more than once. Nissa fires arrow after arrow, easily filling out the elven stereotype.

Due to the overwhelming successes of your allies, in conjunction with your stun, the creature is near death. You draw one more javelin from the air, bringing it down on the creature with full force. The damage is too much and the tiger dies, convulsing heavily.

Izuka looks at you curiously, "And I thought you were an Illusionist." Mostly ignoring the remark, you look down at the blood coming from the creature. It has no odd coloration. Just in case, you kneel and touch it. The blood doesn't rush up like it did previously from the other one, but instead your aethertouched mark glows faintly. A small spark travels from your fingertips into the blood, which quickly travels up into the creature. The orange markings fade, giving way to blue.

"The headmaster wasn't lying." Syn spoke up. "It really does have to do with the spellplague. Though I'm not entirely sure what you just did, as long as that thing doesn't get back up and try to kill us, I won't argue."

You lead your party back to the town, with nothing very interesting happening. As you near, you can feel your energy dropping as the adrenaline begins to wear off. It seems your allies are in the same state.

You arrive at the inn and everyone breaks off into their rooms. Before you sleep, you reflect on your findings of the day. You are aethertouched. This has something to do with the spellplague. Some spellplagued creatures now have control of elements. Aethertouch seems to have something to do with said elements.

With no more information to go over, you sleep after documenting everything you recalled.

Please hold
>>
In your sleep, a voice comes to you. A deep and smooth, but somehow terrifying voice. You're unsure of the origin, or what it wants, or even why it's so terrifying. It just feels.. Unnatural. Malevolent.

When you awake, you cannot recall anything the voice said. Despite all your best efforts, all you know is that something spoke to you and you feel terrified. Shaking the feeling off, you get dressed and join your allies who have already awoken.

There is much to do in this town. You could explore looking for something interesting. You could go to the academy in search of knowledge. Or, you could venture back into the forest.
