I am Mewtwo, the result of an experiment to make the world's most powerful pokèmon. When my creators sought to control me, I broke out and left to find my origins, as well as the limits of my strength.

>Last time, we searched for the Silverock gym leader and instead found an old man who claims to be the ex-gym leader and has some issues with the current one. We accepted his challenge to a battle, but let Vulpix fight first...

I close my eyes and reach out with my thoughts to get a grip on Durant's location. The snow provides little resistance and I'm soon able to find it. Keeping track of Durant, I pulse <Its coming up from beneath you. Dodge right and hit it with a confuse ray in 3, 2, 1... now!>

Vulpix leaps out of the way in time, but as Durant bursts from under the snow, it launches a cloud of rocks, dirt and ice into the air as well, hiding it from sight and blasting Vulpix with the shrapnel. Vulpix sees a glimmer of metal in the cloud, and launches a confuse ray at it, only to find that Durant is no longer there and instead is right in front of her, slicing at her with its metal legs as it scuttles past, rust forgotten.

I can feel Vulpix wince as the claws connect. Thankfully, when it comes around for a second attack, I'm able to pinpoint it for Vulpix to hit with a second confuse ray. Durant staggers slightly, but keeps on coming and connects a second time leaving Vulpix almost visibly unsteady. <Do you want to swich out?> I ask her, but she stubbornly refuses thinking <I have to be able to beat an old, weak pokemon like that one.>

Now that Durant is confised, Vulpix can go back to chipping away with Icy winds and evading Durants pincers. The next time Durant attempts to Dig, it hits a harder than normal rock and crashes, allowing Vulpix to direct several shards of Ice down the hole, causing Durant to freeze and get recalled. The old man states "The thing about steel types is that they aren't always strong and slow, as my next pokemon will demonstrate. Before I do though, I'd recommend calling back that vulpix. Even I can see it's wobbling."

There's a fierce determonation pouring off of Vulpix right now, but what the old man is saying is correct. Vulpix is perilously close to fainting right now.
>>
I ask Vulpix <You look like you are about to faint, do you want to keep fighting?>

I can feel a fire in Vulpix's thoughts as she replies <I'll crush whatever gets in my way, or faint trying.>

I tell the old man <I'm her friend, not her master and she wants to keep battling.>

The old man replies "That's a good perspective to have, just remember that as a trainer it's your job to make the tough decisions because your pokemon often can't. Now go, Luke!"

A tall blue and black pokemon bursts out of the thrown pokeball, and using the flash of the pokeball as cover, it dashes in close and unleashes a rapid series of punches and kicks upon Vulpix, who can only muster up a small shard of ice before being overwhelmed and sent flying back.

She lands in a snowdrift unconcious but unhurt as Lucario adopts a cautious stance, blue scarf flapping in the wind as snow falls in gusts between us.

The old man says "There is no trying, nothing can outspeed Luke. What pokemon are you going to send in next?" As he says this, I notice that he's lost his slight hunch and is moving a lot more than he was before.

I step forward to take Vulpix's place and announce <I'm the next challenger.>

The old man sighs and says "It's pointless, all but the most powerful psychics and martial artists don't stand a chance against a pokemon, and Luke is one of the strongest pokemon around. If you don't have another pokemon then I've won and there's no point embarassing and potentially injuring yourself."

<You misunderstand.> I retort. <My name is Mewtwo, and I have the potential to be the worlds strongest pokemon. I sought out the gym leader in order to beat them and prove my superiority.>

The old man laughs and says "Pure strength is meaningless, but this battle just got even better. Lets do this Luke!"

I've seen Luke's speed and I'll have to move before he does in order to hit him before he hits me twice.

It seems like nobody else is here, so calling votes now. 1st dice is mewtwo, second is Luke.
>>
A cloud of snow is kicked up as Luke starts dashing forward, fist cocked back and readying a punch. I start forming a ball of fire to burn Luke where he stands, but his fist crashes into me before I can launch it. There's a follow up kick that chains into a flurry of punches, but thankfully I'm able to blunt his attacks significantly by using my mind to anticipate his attacks and throw his fists slightly off course.

When I've finished forming the flamethrower, I take advantage of the gaps in his defence left by his reckless attack, and jam the fire straight into his chest. His body glows red with the heat until his eyes close and he crashes to the ground with a hiss as the snow around him starts melting until he gets recalled. My chest is still sore after the barrafe of fists, but other than that I feel fine.

The old says "Well done, but as I was saying, raw strength isn't everything. Sometimes other tactics are required. Go Klefki!"

Theres another flash of light as a pokemon is thrown out. There's a brief flicker and two silver keychains fly out in different directions. Both of them have a mischevous gleam in their eyes when they flicker again and I'm suddenly facing four Klefki's.

This might be a problem.

this is why you get a twitter.

> Create a snowstorm to filter out the copies from the real one.
As soon as we identify the real one, drop the snowstorm and directly grab the Klefki with telekinesis. Bash it on the floor or something.

>> Create a snowstorm to filter out the copies from the real one.
while also blinding it... yes it's an old hat trick at this point but it still gives us an advantage. Just try and keep track of it with your mind so you know where it is and then grab it with psychic, hold it, and finish it off with a flamethrower.
>>
I'm back and writing. Update in ~30 mins
>>
Those doubles of Klefki are going to affect my ability to hit it, so my first action should be to find the real one and hold it still, so I can hit it.

Plan formed, I gather the snow around me and start forming a swirling mass of snow and ice. Klefki stops duplicating and each copy launches a wave of electricity that washes over me and causes my joints to lock up.

As I unleash the snowstorm, I announce <That was a mistake, I don't need to move to win.>

The snowstorm flies through the copies until I hear the plinking of ice on metal behind me.

I reach out with my mind and grab the glittering menace and fling it in front of me. As it flies through the air, it makes an infuriating motion which clouds my mind with anger. It then hits the ground with a satisfying thud.

I pick it up with my mind again and draw it close to melt it's face with a point blank flamethrower. I drag it a bit too close in my anger and it blasts my face with a dazzling burst of light, which turns red as flames engulf both of us. I feel a little weak as the flames burn us both, but thankfully Klefki faints first.

"Well done." the old man says. "It's been a while since I've had such an interesting battle. Why don't we head inside? I've got some battling tips to help you battle that overconfident son of mine who calls himself a gym leader."

Whatever he says next is cut off by a psychic screech from somewhere in the town. Judging from the man's expression he either didn't hear it or is used to it.

>Pick up Vulpix and follow him inside.
>Leave Vulpix with the man and search for the source of the screech.

and use your own psychic powers to try and locate where the screech came from. We're a little winded right now so it would probably be smarter for us to catch our breath before we head out.

<Did you hear that? >

"These old ears can barely hear anything anymore. What did you hear?"

<I heard a psychic screech just then.>

"It's probably some kid pushing their psychic pokemon too hard at the gym. I may have my disagreements with the leader, but he does know how to handle his weakness."

That explanation doesn't seem quite right, but I don't have a better one and nothing seems to have changed when I mentally scan the area, so I put it out of my mind for now.

I follow the old man into the building and I'm greeted by the sight of a small, disused pokemon arena now in two halves, one converted into a lab, complete with all sorts of strange machines with blinking lights and screens showing various graphics, while the other half has been turned into a living room and kitchen.

"Welcome to the old Silverock gym, I'd apologize for the mess, but nobody else comes here anymore so I don't bother to tidy up." There's a note of sadness in his voice as he says this.

<What happened?> I ask.

"That no-good son of mine is what happened." he snarls. "One day he just up and decides that I'm doing a terrible job of being a gym leader, and he could do better. The next thing I know we're having a battle on live TV, to decide who should be the next gym leader. I'm winning until he pulls out this molten monster of a Pokemon he found in the mine and sweeps my team with it."

He stops for breath, before continuing. "And to top it all off he doesn't care about anything but strength. It's like he's completely forgotten what being a leader is all about!"

<What is being a leader about then? I was only told that you were the strongest trainers around.>

"Being a gym leader is like being a trainer for the entire town. You've got to help it grow and make all the tough decisions for everyone. You've got to care for each and every person and Pokemon before yourself. All he does is hide in his mine and call it a gym."

It's at this time that Vulpix wakes up, looks around, blinking and asks "Where am I and did we win?"

I tell her <We are inside the old gym, and yes we did. >

She replies "Good, but I wanted to see you fight."

<Know your limits and next time you might.>

>1/2
>>
The old man waits for us to finish talking before saying "I'm sorry about ranting like that earlier, all I meant to do was give you tips on beating the gym. He's rather focused on physical power and defense, so special moves are the best way to win, except he has two pokemon to cover that weakness. One is Bronzong, the other one is the molten pokemon I was talking about before. He has this annoying knack of predicting when his opponents are going to use a fire move and switching so that pokemon absorbs the hit. Once it's down, you should be able to beat him easily with flamethrower. He's also prone to making mistakes when he thinks he's won, so you could use that. Just take him down for me and I'll be grateful.

<I'm grateful for your advice. I'll head over when I'm recovered from our battle. I'm going to be motionless while doing so, so don't be concerned. >

I'm pondering my options while using recover to heal up when another psychic screech echoes from somewhere in the town and makes me wince. I'm able to make out something resembling words this time.

<S̭̣͍̈ͩ̾̿͒ͬt͙̞͗̎ͣͪ̊r̗̾ͩ̌̾̄ả̩̩̠̖͖̬̦̌n͓̗͉̼̉̿g̰̥̔͑̒̾̉͒ͅe̻̬̦̾ͬͤ̀ ͙͚̙̝ͯͩ̃͐̔̔ͮp̯͇̝̫͉̱r̳͐̓͛e̺̠̥̼̣͑̇͗͒͛̓s̹e̘̙͙̜̣̓͋̏̾ͨ͐ͅn͍̣͚̐c̫͎̪͔͙̱̞̍̋ͬe̗̩̯͛̐̎ͯ̿ ̩͉̺̤̝̩̰͂ͫ͛̓ͩ̚d̖̘̹͇͔̟͚ͪ̑͐̔͆̆ͪȅ̼̫̘̞̼͉̓t̯̪ͣ̆ͧe̺͎̥̥̤ͣ̎̄̈ͦͨc̺͉̠̝̃͗͐̾ͦ̒t̮̬̱͐ͮ̓ͅe̻̘ͮͫ̌ͨͣd͔̫͉̦̖̰̪͗͛̾ͨ,̩̞̘͈̩̬͖̓̍̈ͪ t͍̳̹͋ͨ̒̓h̳̩̟̲͈͐ṛ͖̜͑͐ͩ̃̇̍e͛ͯͮ̉͌̓ͧa̯̹̜̣͔̮̙̒ͬ̌ͯ̊t͚̝̝͚ͩ͒ ̣̪͇̮̮̏͊̆̍l͈̼̳̮͇̏̅ͧͤḛ̬̰̣͙̟̋̑̐̆ͭvẽ̦͖͉̦l͗̉ ̟͓͖̟̇ͯ̄̅͗̉u̻͉̳̞̐͋̏̇͌n͓̜̽k̗͚̿ͤ̀͑̚n̩̬͛̈ͤ̒͌́o͙͇͚ͭ͌̔̓̅w͉̟̭̲̤̄ͨ͛͐͗͗n̖̰̰͈͎̖̙͂̌>

Both Vulpix and the old man don't seem to have heard the screech. Both of them look at me slightly concerned.

I doubt the gym is going anywhere, and this might be important.

I can think of any number of things this could be, but I'd guess that it's a local legendary wondering what the fuck it's sensing.

I tell the old man, <I just heard another screech from somewhere in town and that takes priority. I'll head over to the gym afterwards.>

"Aren't you worried that people will react badly to a strange Pokemon walking into town?"

<It's not my problem, unless they make it my problem. In which case, they'll regret it.>

"Don't cause trouble or the police will be called in, and even you will have trouble against six pokemon at once."

<That sounds like it could be an interesting challenge.>

"If you were to start winning, they'd have to call in the gym leader and other trainers and eventually you'd be beaten, and someone might have the bright idea to throw a pokeball."

<Point made. I'll try to avoid drawing attention to myself then.>

"Good. Just let me know when you go to challenge the gym. I'd like to see that ungrateful whelp taken down a peg or two. "

<I'll do that then.> <Come on Vulpix, we're going.>

As we head down the winding path to the town, I reach out with my mind and try to figure out where the screech could have come from. I also give the town a detailed look over from above, in case the cause is hidden.

Most of the town seems fairly similar to before, however there are a few places that seem different from before, as well as some areas that seem suspicious.

Firstly there's a house on the east side of town that looks like it's on the verge of collapsing, even though somebody lives there and the surrounding houses are new. Secondly there's a mental blank patch around the fancy building in the center of town that wasn't there before. Finally there's a shining human presence arriving at the train station and a large crowd waiting for them.

> Check out the collapsing house

> Head for the fancy building with the new mental blank zone.

>See what the crowd at the station is about.
>>
I forgot to mention that the fancy building is in the middle of town, whereas the other two are on opposite ends, with the dilapidated building being on the close side.

Regardless of vote, roll 1d100 for sneaking.

I'm curious about that mental blank zone; that shit doesn't just spontaneously generate. Or so I assume, anyways.
