"Time to rise and shine, kiddo" a puff of smoke hits your face, nearly making you jump off the bed. Carla seems to still be fast asleep, however Duke is standing next to your bed, a cigar in hand.
The man laughs at your reaction and goes to sit on the nearby beanbag chair. "What are you doing here?" you rub your eyes and stretch "It kinda is my home, Phil" fair enough.
"I thought you'd show up last night..." your words trail off as you look outside before remembering you're in the moon. While you're pretty sure the place has a day and night cycle,
the only change you witnessed was in artificial illumination. "Well it's still technically night, if you go by the clock and street illumination settings" you nod, getting up from the bed in the most silent manner you can mange
"What do you want?" Duke frowns "Want? I came here to deliver on the stuff your little party asked, remember?" right, that. "That means you got everything then"
he cracks his neck and puts the cigar to his mouth, inhaling the cancerous smoke. "Yeah" a brief pause to let out the smoke before he continues "Kinda" you frown, all this wait and the best he can do is 'kinda'?
"What went wrong?" the man gets up and heads to the balcony. Opening the door he looks out to the well-lit metropolis. "I'm not trying to be dramatic or anything, but after I dug up stuff on you shit kinda hit the fan for me"
you walk up next to him. "How so? There's nothing wrong about me" he raises an eyebrow "Kid, you don't need to hide your game. We're in the same team. Problem is now my supervisors are out for my head for digging you up"
"Same team? I work security and that's all. What's that 'little secret' you referred to anyway, does it have to do with this? He nods and throws the remains of the cigar out from the balcony and onto the street below.
"Look, if you don't trust me with it that's fine but let's stop playing games. You are -" what a weird time for thunder to strike your ears "- Philips and you work for the same people as I do"
"No I don't. I have no clue what you're talking about" he shrugs "Well whatever you want then. Your new identities are on the living room table along with a computer filled with contacts and intel"
He shakes his head "Unitologists. Goddamn Unitologists. Always knew they would be trouble but the crap you've been sending me-" correction, Carla has been sending him "It's just insane"
"Welcome to my world" he pulls out another two cigars and offers you one.

"I want to find a guy who knew of the necros before they got into Heinlein" Duke furrows his brow before replying, "Is he a unitologist or... let me guess, someone they managed to lock up somewhere"
"Thinking the latter, we were lucky someone got a leaked report on him otherwise we wouldn't have heard about it" you take a few moments to consider what else you could do.
"Other than that I suppose I could try to fuel some kind of Anti-Unitologist movement" he laughs and points his cigar at you "Some kind of anti-cult? I didn't see the skills for that on your file"
"You'd be surprised at how good I am at learning on the go. That said, what else is on my file? I wasn't just acting, I really can't remember anything about working for EarthGov"
His face turns to one of concern, grinding his teeth a bit he proceeds "Look. I'll trust what you're saying is true. You were a special counter terrorism agent, most of your missions were filled with black lines"
"Black lines?" he laughs "Redacted stuff. You apparently acted in both conventional and infiltration operations. Recognized some of the details of your work in cases I read about. Top notch stuff"
"I don't remember being a secret agent" he shakes his head "You're not. Well not anymore anyway, got listed as deceased after the Heinlein incident" this is too much for you to consider.
How would you forget being some kind of elite cop? Your background was that of a regular tactical team member on Earth, not some ultra-elite counter terrorist whatever.
Mostly you just handled nutjobs taking some chick hostage or bank robbers. "So who should I talk to if I wanted to learn more about it?" Duke shrugs "My bosses would know,
but they're not exactly happy right now. Digging you up nearly cost me my job" strange, why would some dead agent matter.

This. Missed part of last thread, dang I need to go back and reread.
>>
"What do you figure has them struggling to keep me hidden?" the man leans on the balcony's guard, gesturing with his cigar "Sometimes it's not so much about who you are by what you're involved in,
you don't seem to know a lot by yourself but it's entirely possible something about your past is top secret" he shrugs "Don't think it was those missions you were in, I've looked at dozens like those before,
none ever made me get a personal call and a suspension before" you turn around to look at Carla. She's still sleeping snuggly, a bit of drool sliding out of her mouth. " "I might have been forcibly retired,
With the crazy shit I have seen... EarthGov being able to create localized amnesia is not the most difficult thing to believe" you lean on the wall and face Duke again "So did you find anything on the Unis?"
"Yep. It's in the living room's computer. Some indications they're involved in those recent abductions, a few strange fund movements, and a lot of chatter that suddenly died coming out of Titan"
"Titan? Weird that's where the patient guy is" he throws the second cigar's remains on the street "Can't be a coincidence, Phil". As much as you hate to consider it, he's likely right.
"Anyway, I'm heading out kid, got a house call to make" you can't help but raise an eyebrow, which causes him to give you a shit eating grin "That waitress has a sister you see..."
"Damn Duke, for an old man you're kind of popular" he laughs, pats your back and starts heading out "Perks of being a 'secret agent man' y'see?". You don't, but whatever suits him.
-
"Hm- Hey Phil, is that breakfast?" Carla comes to the living room, where you're setting up things for the party's morning snack. "Yep. Had a lot of time since I got waken up too early"
"What woke you up? Please tell me I didn't snore" you laugh "Nah. Duke came by, he's done his end of the deal" she takes a seat and starts serving herself a plate of grub.
The others start coming in soon after, everyone seems to appreciate the food.

Copying the identities and files to a datapad you start walking around the room, pointing to each companion and declaring their new names and backgrounds.
"Patrick Mai-Wang" that's Samson "Massage therapist?" he shrugs and turns back to his coffee. "Benjamin Dover, that's you Julius" the old engineer frowns waiting for you to continue,
"Oh right, plumber" got the shitty end of the stick there. "Robert Lover" you pat Sarge's back "Retired military instructor" not so bad. "Myself Felix Uecker, a dentist" you do like to remove people's teeth.
Finally, you hug Carla from behind "And you are Jack Daniels" she laughs "You're joking right?" you kiss her cheeck "We've got Pat Mai-Wang, Ben Dover, Dick Lover, F. Uecker and you think Jack Daniels is bad?"
"God Duke is a fucking asshole" everyone seems to have a laugh at the shitty identities they've been handed. "Well while you guys finish eating I'm going to check out what data he's dug up"
-
The intel is mostly a big codex of people and places, financial information, and other data that went through EarthGov analysts and turned out to be relevant. You even find Terry in there,
listed as a 'potential danger to colonial stability'. Funnily you also find Schneider among the list of 'possible terrorist cell recruit', guess someone didn't dig deep enough to find he was in fact their leader.
Some things catch your eye there, such as the map of activity which you're pretty sure is still somehow connected to EarthGov's intel networks. One of the interesting bits is that you have a list of anti-unitologists as well.
Duke really did a good job despite his strange ways. On to the contact list you see more of the usual shady stuff, arms dealers, smugglers, forgers, ship dealers, mercenaries, assassins and the like.
You feel someone sneaking on you, so you spin back to see Carla standing behind you with a mug of hot coffee "What's the next step of your master plan, big guy?"
>We need to start recruiting more people for our 'cell'

"Right now? I plan on speaking to Duke's boss. Thinking you guys could investigate the abductions meanwhile" she takes a seat next to you "You think they have anything to do with what happened in Heinlein?"
"If not with that then at least they're somehow connected to Unitology. And I'm not the only one who thinks that" Carla nods and takes a sip of your coffee bare handing it back to you.
"That said, I don't think it'd be safe for you guys to act on it before I get back. Just investigate. Gathering data is also kind of your thing isn't it?" she gives you a toothy grin.
"On the other hand we could find more allies too. Maybe start up a cell to take down those cultists" you bet there's a big line of people they've wrong and who would happily throw their lot in with you.
Carla gets up and starts rubbing your neck and back "Whatever you decide to do just remember you're not alone. If you need backup all you need to do is ask" you just grunt in approval.
Duke should've given - her - the massage therapist background.
-
"You want to meet my boss?" well that's what you had just asked, but in case he's having hearing problems you repeat yourself. "No way. You've been declared dead, that would break your cover.
Besides, you yourself said that you're having memory issues. Have you considered that they'd dislike having you around knowing what you did if that wasn't part of their scheme?"
While he does make a point you also have to think of the resources you'd gain from working with actual permission from EarthGov. "Look, can you get a meeting or can't you?"
"I could try, you have to remember that they're raining fire and brimstone on my ass right now. Look if you're into investigating your own past there's bound to be other ways,
do you really want me to go through with this, kid? If anything it might ease things up on my side but on yours..."

"Tell you what, I'll give you a reply after I have a chat with my crew, that good with you?" he replies with a laugh. "Sure go ahead. Tell me how the 'I'm a secret agent talk' goes later"
Cutting off the call you head back into the living room. Most of your team mates are just lazing around when you ask that they join you for a little chat. They shortly after form a circle around the kitchen table.
Sarge is the first to speak up "What's the matter? Already planned a move for us?" you shake your head and sigh "You see, there's..." you consider whether or not to just come clean,
or to explain the situation while avoiding revealing your 'secret' background. In the end you opt for the latter, at least for now. "There's a chance that I could meet with Duke's boss, clarify somethings,
maybe even get real support from EarthGov. Problem is that could come back to bite us, specially if we try to unearth something they really wanted buried" your group nods and each one seems to ponder on their own.
"So is that all? You're asking if you should risk it or not, but something feels off" Sarge frowns and crosses his arms "It feels like you're trying to run us through a scenario without giving us the important details"
Doc pipes up, "I have to agree with Sarge. What exactly do you think they'd be mad at us for uncovering? Unitology? You don't think EarthGov and unitology are in this together do you?" you bite your lips in concern.
Should you ask them to give you space? Tell them it's personal? Or you could just open up about it. Either way risks both their trust and their opinions of you, though not by a lot. The memory loss would help explain it,
but to your own ears it sounds more like an excuse someone would make to avoid explaining their secrets. Specially a 'secret agent' of some sort, as apparently you are..

"I'm a secret agent of EarthGov" Gomez spits out his drink while the others' eyes widen. Carla opens her mouth but you interrupt her before she can begin saying anything about the subject.
"Look. I didn't know it either" the group only becomes more confused, some look to each other while others shake their heads "Memory loss. Can't remember ever signing up. But well,
apparently that's who I am, according to the stuff Duke could dig up" this time it's Julius who responds first "I don't get it. If that's true then it just makes things easier for us, you could get real help.
Official help" you shake your head and look off to the apartment's window in consideration of all the pros and cons of the situation. "That's true, we could get some real boons from being with EarthGov,
or Duke's fears could be right, maybe they want to bury something related to me. Why else would they screw with him after he looked me up? Why else leave me on Heinlein with no memory of this?"
Sarge nods in agreement "Not only that but being dead has it's boons. If we turn up with any of our real identities it'd make some people start asking questions. Such as, how the hell did we get out"
"Yeah. We've gotta be careful with this, I ain't in favour of talking to that boss guy for all that matters" Gomez seems to side with the Sarge. "I'll be okay with whatever you decide,
but I'd rather we contact his superior" says Doc. Julius also remains adamant you should contact Duke's boss. Your girlfriend is the last one to speak up:
"Phil, I don't care who you were and whatever you choose will be fine by me", seems like you're the casting vote.

Carla and you entered a police department building dressed as security, while you chatted up some detective's secretary your girlfriend set the information encapsulated in a small program.
The code was set to deliver the data to multiple news stations' contacts, to intel brokers, to public chat forums and even to official government channels she could push her way into.
Timed to go off as soon as you left the planet you felt it was the best move you could make, as it would certainly shatter any good will the public had with Unitologists. If not outright cause them to be banned.
-
"And we're off. Wonder how long before churches start getting burned" you laugh "Watch out for that 'edge', Julius" he grumbles in response. "I mean, I hope the average joe unitologist won't be,
y'know, too far gone. That they'll see the bullshit for what it is" you sigh "It's just hope though. Seeing the cultists there in Heinlein my rational part-" as if "thinks they'll just get more extreme"
"I hope they do, just so I can finally shoot them officially" you have to turn to the intruder "Why the hell are you here again?" the fat man throws you a beer bottle "That little stunt of yours?
Government is after whoever did it. Now, I won't tell if you don't, but they told me to investigate the group so I guess here I am"
"And you say that openly?"
"Yeah. Pretty much"
"I can still you out the airlock"
"I brought beer"
Fine.
-
"Why did you call me Julius? I was in the middle of - something - with Carla" he points to the comm channel he's opened to the station "We're getting no response"
"That can't possibly be good, hey watch out!" a fucking gunship nearly crashes on your own ship, it looked almost out of control. A sudden communication call shows up on your screen.
"Get the hell outta here fast!" it's a tan-skinned woman with an eyepatch who cuts it off soon after. Suddenly the entire place begins to collapse, Titan Station is destroyed before your very eyes.
"I feel like we got here late" Julius turns to you wide-eyed "Did it happen again? Was it the goddamn unitologists - AGAIN?" he smashes his fist on the control panel.
"Calm down, mate, we should..."

Broadcasting your handsome face asking if anyone survived doesn't get you much, for a while. Eventually you receive a call from the same girl. There's a man next to her, looks a bit older than you.
"Give it up. No one else made it off" you sigh and rub your temples. "Alright then. Let me guess, did it have anything to do with unitologists and undead monsters?" they look to each other then back to you.
"Who are you again?" you check the fake identity pad affixed to the panel once again, to remind yourself of your new name "I'm Felix Uecker, captain of the Chosen Few, we came here hoping to find someone"
"Look, whoever you wanted to find is most certainly dead by now. Now how did you know about outbreak" you adopt a grim expression "This isn't the first station where this happened. We barely escaped off from Heinlein"
The man swallows hard, something from the way he looks at you to the tightening of his jaw muscles tells you he's not exactly comfortable with that piece of news. "Look, whoever you are you should come to New Horizons"
"Who are you with, EarthGov?" he pauses "Unitologists?" you laugh "Hell no. I'm with myself and my friends. We want to stop this crap from happening again, now, if there's anything you could share..."
After some silence they respond again "How can we trust you?" that's a tough one "You can't, but you should. If we are to do anything meaningful we'll all need allies" the comms shut off,
but shortly you receive a message asking to meet you in New Horizons

It's not a very fruitful search. Most of the place was completely destroyed in the aftermath of the explosion. You find mostly scrap in your search, but eventually you come across a crate.
Once the crew votes to let it inside you all examine it together. It doesn't seem to have anything necromorph or unitology related, and it's vacuum sealed, heat insulated and lead lined.
You wonder if it's something incredibly expensive or a collector's item. To your surprise it is neither, well maybe the latter. A tripod-mounted machinegun that you're pretty sure would need a crew to carry around.
It would fit rather well with your special suit in case you decide to keep it, as you could probably lift it alone due to the servos. Upon further inspection you see that it's EarthGov property.
"Why would they have this lying around a space station?" one does have to wonder. "What if they knew something was going down or sent troops here?" you laugh at the idea.
"I don't think it was that" interrupts Duke "I heard that EarthGov has been arming it's forces recently. Like real weapons-race kind of deal, as if they were preparing for something.
It's in the report I sent you" really now? "I didn't see that" he grins "Yeah it was in page 217" you roll your eyes, why do people expect others to give a shit past the summary page and looking at catalog contents.
"Regardless, we should get the hell outta here before anyone comes check what happened"

´"Set course to Earth, Julius" he gives you a mock salute similar to the ones you used to with the commander in Heinlein "Duke, can you set up that meeting? This changes everything.
If stations are going to be hit like this so damn often we need to do something. And fast" he nods and heads out. The remaining companions look up to you for any other instructions.
"The rest of us, I guess we can just wait. I'll take one of you with me to meet with those two survivors, the rest can guard the ship in case anything weird happens" the group acknowledges your orders,
then each moves on to mind their own business. It's weird for you, giving orders, but someone has to and since you've always been leading the charge it's only natural you be the 'captain' of the ship.
You turn around and see that girl from the station, she's bloodied and pale. The scent of dead flesh enters your nostrils. "You aren't real" is all you say as you move straight through the hallucination.
-
"It's set for tonight, at the park. He'll be disguised as a civilian and will approach you" the man talks like it's only natural, though you can't help but frown at the thought "Why so?
I'll give myself away and I don't even get a description?" Duke sighs "He already knows what you look like anyway, plus you'll know him when you see him" what could he mean by that?
"Alright. We'll see about it" you make your way to the bridge. Julius is talking to Gomez when he sees you and abruptly interrupts their conversation. "Phil, the two survivors?
They're asking that you go to their gunship. Said you could only go alone"

"Fine by me. I'm going out everyone, so stay sharp and call me if anything happens while I'm gone" of course you do not leave immediately, instead taking the time to put on your Big Mean RIG.
It's got enough defenses to hold back anything two people could throw at you, specially with the reactive armour activated. Though you do have to be careful not to accidentally bump into anything.
Out of your own cargo hauler you start making your way to their ship. Or rather, it should be there according to the location they sent, but the dock is empty. Instead you see something on the ground.
You move closer to inspect it, it's just a flashlight. "That's the spot. Now, don't move, and tell us who you and what do you want with us exactly" it's the woman talking. The man remains silent next to her,
a seeker rifle in hand pointing it to your head. "I'm a survivor. Just like you" she lets out a soft laugh "If you say so. Who did you want to meet on titan?" you turn your body to face them but the man gestures for you to stay put.
"Just a psychiatric patient. Leaked information I got said he knew about those monsters before they even hit the station I lived in. I figure he or her would know more than anyone else I've met so far.
Other than crazy unitologists that is" the man looks deep into your eyes, the woman next to him is about to speak again when he chooses to for the first time.
"You've found me. I'm Isaac Clarke, and I'm a survivor of the Ishimura Incident" wait the Ishimura had an outbreak too? They said it was a terrorist attack. What else have the bastards lied about...

After a long time with the two survivors you learned quite a few things. First that the marker you had seen before was the definitive cause of the necromorph infestations,
explaining why the cultists had planned on sending it elsewhere. Second, you learned that it wasn't just Unitologists who wanted the markers, but EarthGov too had been building and studying these.
Knowing what Isaac had told you about the Ishimura and Titan you explained to him what had occurred in Heinlein. At the end of your long talk it was clear that there was more to fight against that just the unitologists.
This was a situation reaching the boiling point. War between EarthGov and their greed, Unitologists and their faith, and the Necromorphs and whatever the hell they wanted. With humanity caught in the crossfire.
You tried to persuade the two of them to come with you, telling them of your comfortable safe spot, resources and the people you had brought together in order to try and stop this madness.
At the end it was clear you wouldn't be able to convince the two to join your crew, specially after you let it slip to them that your shelter provided by the EarthGov agent, and you had a planned meeting with EarthGov.
Despite their decision to just vanish you had exchanged contacts, and provided them with a small amount of credits, enough for them to find a hideout more easily around here.
Maybe things could've gone differently, but you can't blame them for wanting nothing to do with this. You're not sure if this is the last you'll see of them, however, even if they choose to lay low for a while.
-
Back at the ship and after sharing everything you had learned with your companions the tensions on the upcoming meeting were high. Everyone was questioning whether or not to go ahead with it.
"Phil, it's way too dangerous. If they're also releasing those damn things how can we trust their help to stop it? How do you know they won't just shoot us for knowing they're the same as the Unis?"
"Those damned bastards are snakes and killers just like the cultists! We should just... just blow their damn-" you've got to get a handle of this before Julius lets anger take a hold of him.
"Calm down, easy. I know you've all got your doubts about this" even Duke nods at that "But we've gotta consider that we could find a way to show them that doing this is not the way,
that if they don't take down those damn markers we'll soon all be space zombies. I mean, we could strike out on our own but we could also try and find a way to bring them to our side"
The whole group takes a moment to consider the situation. Despite the anger and distrust of EarthGov they're still willing to listen to your words, after all you've been through.
"Look, we'll..."

"We'll go, I'll make sure that we have some reassurances that they won't try anything funny" the others seem interested in hearing about it but you opt to keep the details a secret for now.
It's imperative that this plan works or you might end up with a black sack over your head and lead in it. Plus you don't want to talk about anything with Duke overhearing.
You want to believe he won't help EarthGov against you after what you all learned from Isaac but you're not taking any chances. Specially when it's not just your life at stake.
Once everything is decided the others start leaving, though not all of them are allowed. You call to Carla and Julius, knowing they'll go on with what you have in mind.
Carla will help you set up an untraceable communications that you can drop on the meet up site, while Julius will make up a remote detonator system for Big Phil, with two detonators handed to you and to Carla.
Probably won't take too long to set it all up with the resources you have now, but it should still be done as fast as possible to make sure you're ready before the meeting hour.
-
Sarge and Gomez are dressed as security officers on Patrol. Carla is in an hotel room with her sniper and a detonator. Julius is driving a truck you managed to get on short notice through one of Duke's contacts,
with Doc on the back ready to give support if necessary. You're waiting near the meeting site, in a place where you can see if the man will approach. It's already very close to the time you had agreed on,
and yet there's no sign of Duke's boss. He could be waiting to see if you show up first, or he could just be the type to take his damn time. Your thoughts are interrupted by an elderly man going to sit on the bench.
He fits the description and picture, though from this range you wouldn't confirm it 100%.

"You scared the crap outta me you piece of shit! I thought you'd show up in person not some ghostly voice coming outta the goddamn bench. And yes, I am" you're not sure if he's like this all the time,
but if he is then you can't help but feel sorry for the people who work under him. "Alright, then if you are who you say you are, who set up this meet?" he shouts again, forcing you to turn down the volume.
"That fucking useless scumbag Duke, now quit the stupid questions and get to the point. You're Philips right? Where is your handlers?"

"Everything, I want the truth before I agree to coming because of all the shit that has happened. Its much bigger than us" he stutters, you can see from the enhanced visor he's still checking out the bomb.
The gunship is moving away and from what Sarge and Gomez report all the vans are beginning to leave. You notice for the first time how the man has something on his wrist, he must've been using it to issue commands.
"Can you be more specific?" you send a quick message for Carla and the others to begin moving to the truck discretely. "What did you do to me and my past and what do they know about the people changing into monsters?"
"They who?" you laugh "You know who. EarthGov" the man paces back and forth before settling down again "Look, we've been studying the markers because they could mean a source for limitless en-"
"Bullshit. All those things do is turn people into monsters. You and I know that, what about the crap you did to me?" he's now looking around trying to see where you might be "It's simple,
we've blocked parts of your memory and implanted a series of commands into your mind. You're an infiltrated agent, activated by a local handler once necessary. We use you to eliminate potential threats,
while also eliminating any accountability on our part" the way he says all that makes you disgusted "So I'm an assassin?"
"It's not as rough as that. You're a problem solver that is disposable or reusable. Most of your peers are already through their tenth identity, you're only in your second"
"And I agreed to this?" he pauses "Do you- Do you have any form of contact through which I can send you something?" you take some time getting Carla to work on it before getting back to him.
Soon a video arrives. This boss man had prepared it in advance, apparently. It's... you. You're talking to an interviewer. He explains every single detail of your new 'job'.
At the end you take it, sign the papers and head out of the office it was filmed in and into 'preparation'. You can't remember any of this, a probable side effect of their memory meddling.

>>
"I want to work together, but with the bullshit you've been pulling I'm not sure I can trust you" you take a deep breath before thinking of your next few words.
"So what were we supposed to do on heinelen?" the man takes a bit before answering "We suspected that certain elements were infiltrating the place. You were tasked with staying there until,
well, until your handler had decided it was time to set you loose on them" so you're just some attack dog to them? "Look, it wasn't anything personal, hell to you it was just a job, a way of serving"
"I was going to kill myself, did you know that? Until the monsters started crawling from the ducts I wanted to die, I don't want to forget what happened not this time"
"You... your handler should've been monitoring your mental state, if you were having any issues you should've"
"Who - was - my handler?" a hand touches your sholder, softly. "That's enough Phil"
"Doc?" he leans closer to your ear and whispers a couple of words. It's all it takes to make you black out.
-
"What-" you look around you, you're in the park. There's a gun in your hands, and you've... The man. The contact is dead. You shot him?
His head is blasted to nothing. You did this, but why? You don't remember how you got here or where you were before.
There are security guards approaching and they seem awfully pissed.
But you didn't - want - this, you never wanted to! Why couldn't you stop it? Why are you not in control?
Something flashes in your mind again, a young girl, dead, shot, soon more faces come.
The officers are getting closer and they've got their guns out.

Well you've got no desire to see what the cops are gonna do to you. Armed maniac with a gun in the middle of a park? They'll definitely rough you even if you surrender.
Time to run like there's no tomorrow. The cops open fire but you manage to get away with just a graze on your shoulder. Once you've hit the alleyways they've got no way to keep chasing you.
It seems the physical conditioning really pays off, specially all your recent 'cardio' training. You keep running until you're a couple of blocks away. Getting into a building you start up comms.
The team should be answering, but no one is picking up. Not Sarge, not Gomez, not Carla, not Julius, not Doc. Why don't they pick the damn comms? Not the time to panic.
You need to decide where you should be heading next. Every thought in your head is stopped by a sharp pain that goes from one temple to the other, as if your head was being stabbed by a very long nail.
"What's the codeword? What's the codeword? What's the codeword?" it all comes out of your mouth without you willing it. It's like multiple thoughts are in conflict inside you.
After a while the crisis subsides, but you feel like you should be remembering something. Like there's an important detail you're forgetting. Something about how you got there.

You need to focus, it was something important and you know it. You try harder and harder, but the more you try to grasp at the memory the faster it 'runs' from you. Soon you're kneeling while clutching your head in pain.
It's like someone threw a flash grenade inside your head. A minute or two pass before you've recomposed yourself enough that you can get up. There's no one around you right now, but you peek through the door and see,
well, glimpse the security patrolling the alleys. Going up a floor you see that just on the street in front of this building there are dozens of officers and you're pretty sure that there are more nearby. This is really bad.
Looking at the stuff still on you, there's just your security suit that you used to blend in and the director's revolver. The murder weapon. For a second you think of just leaving and pretending to be one their own with your helment on,
but then you remember that there's still blood from the man you - someone who isn't really you - killed. After considering your options you to the decision to...

How could have not seen it coming, it's just absurd. Maybe he has a reason but right now you're way too pissed to give a damn. Now you've gotta find a way to meet up with the others and warn them.
Trying the comms again yields no results. Looking out through the second floor window you see the officers are still around. Damn, someone's opening a door nearby in the second floor hallway.

Better to wait and see before you run around like an idiot. It's just some punk dude, but you've gotta be sure he won't question the cop. He looks at you. Then down to his hand, drugs.
The punk asshole starts running down stairs, well he's screwed since he'll be running into a load of cops. Funnily he let his door open, think looks broken up if it's not closing on its own.
You could try and check if he's got anything you could use, if he's a crook he could have something or maybe you could just lay low there for a while. Or you could go up and see if you can make it through the rooftops.
Now that you consider it, could always try to make your luck by changing clothes in the punk guy's apartment and trying to go through the main entrance of the building.

Into the apartment you go. Lord, it's a stinking pile of trash. A rotten old couch that looks made of the shittiest foam you've ever seen. Old pizza sitting on a small table. The TV is on and they're talking about... you?
Looking around you see there's no one nearby, so you force the door closed then throw a large cabinet over it. Would be hard to get out in case of an emergency but so be it. Once you're done you look back.

You keep trying comms and failing. No one's picking up. While you try that you overhear the TV saying that an "unidentified suspect" commited a terror attack on a government official,
and that they are investigating possible ties with unitologists since the recent scandals have put the church under a lot of strain and investigation. Damn, maybe this whole thing has - one - good side at least.
Rummaging through the apartment's living room seems like the logical next step. You begin by opening the couch and- Damn. You've found something amazing. How does a common druggie even has this thing.
It's an antique shotgun, you've read about it. Applies a technology similar to plasma cutters, but scatters the superheated blast across everything in a wide circular pattern. Shame it's got such a short range.
You go looking through his stuff some more and find a med-kit, some shitty dirty clothes and car keys, which according to their ID and tracker seem to be to a car parked in front of the building.
Once more you try comms, this time someone picks it up. "Hey, Carla?" there's silence on the other end "I'll still need you to do your part, Philips. The central administration building, hurry" it's Doc, goddamn.
"Look Doc, come on, you should Know there are only five people I would care if you hurt so-" he shuts the comms off. Right then something catches your attention, like a muffled voice coming from the bedroom.

You take the time to change clothes, a crappy jacket and jeans over a plain shirt with a hole on the side and some blood. Packing your suit into a spare backpack and conceiling your weapons,
when the noise shows up again. Better to investigate it, it really does sound weird. Inside the bedroom everything is dark, though eventually the movement detector starts working and lights it up for you.
There's a blonde chick in a security uniform. She's tied up and gagged, someone took the time to rough her up a bit. Looking around you see a moon banner along with another jacket carrying the Lunatics' symbol.
Figures, the guys is probably one of those psychos. You move to take her gag off, but you realize she could scream thinking you're one of them. The lady seems younger than you, probably a rookie.
Deciding to explain you tell her you're not a lunatic, and ask her to nod if she'll let you come closer. She does.

"I'll take off your gag" she nods, you can see tears rolling down her cheeks, her pupils look dilated and the bruises on her face are pretty bad. Moving closer you can see her nostrils open wide,
as if she's in panic. You take off the gag slowly, but immediately you notice she'll shout. She barely gets a noise out and you've covered her mouth with your hand. She tries to bite you but you hold firm.
"I'm... here to fucking... help you" the pain is pretty bad, she's not holding back. After a few seconds of it, she eases up and lets go. You slowly move your mouth away and ready the gag. She keeps quiet.
"Who are you?" she asks.

"I'm a fellow officer, just undercover, don't worry!" you see her eyes widen in fear "Please I'm sorry, I didn't know, please..." her words trail off as she starts hyperventilating. "Calm down kid, look I'm here to help you"
Stepping back a little you raise your hands and speak in a calming and slow tone "I don't know what happened, but I'm here to get you out. If it makes you feel better tell me what happened, that good?"
She calms down again and lets you approach to take off the ropes that bind her limbs. "I'm Officer Sarah Webster, they didn't tell me not to go there, they didn't... They sold me to them. Please I'm so sorry"
You've heard the surname before, you think. "Look, from what I'm getting you crossed the wrong people. Other officers, crooks? Then they sold you to the lunatics, is that right?" she nods many times before slowly getting up. Sarah has a bit of trouble walking,
but you help her up. "Alright, I'll at least..."

"I- I'll go with you. What's your name?" you sigh "Call me Felix for now, I'll explain later" she nods, newfound determination fueling her.
-
After she undressed and put on some of the gang's spare clothes you both were ready to head out. However, first you needed to decide on a destination. Doc had said for you to head to the administrative center,
but you could also stop by the ship to grab supplies, or even at the apartment to see if there's no one there at all. You never know, he could be trying to trick you again. It's a hard choice to make, but you have to.

You two go through the street mostly unnoticed, the guards figuring you're just more lunatic punks. Thankfully none of them see to recognize your little friend, or at least don't let it slip.
Once in the car, which happens to be a weird little japanese car, you start it's internal systems. It takes a while to boot up and thankfully there's no facial recognition or anything fancy like that.
The tiny car starts up and you make your way to the center. Sarah leans back, she looks in pain, probably from the beating she took. "You alright?" she winces in pain when touching her own cheek.
"I will be, I hope. Don't think I broke anything... I hope" you look her over. She's strangely familiar, and you're sure you've heard her surname before. Webster was it? You try to remember why.

your surnames are different, he is a hispanic man and you're kinda-" blonde, blue eyed "-you know. That and his sister is on Earth. Still a good guess right?" she raises a brow and goes to respond,
but opts to just nod and give you a half smile instead. "I suppose" you laugh "Oh come on. I don't know I just found your name to be familiar" this time she shrugs, though you notice it's because of her neck,
seems to be pretty stuff from being tied up like that for so long "Well, my dad was a detective, so you could've met him if you're really a cop too" you guess your story wasn't entirely convincing.
You decide to spend the rest of the trip quietly, listening to some music.
-
The building is pretty damn wide and tall. It reminds you of a big wall. You notice that the entrance is guarded but not very heavily, probably because most forces have been called to the manhunt.

"Stop or I'll shoot, stop!" you do so. "Look pal, you don't have to do this, it's not what it looks like" he laughs and goes for his comms while his revolver is slightly lowered.

"Look this is not the bomb you're looking for" you wave your hand on his face and he looks at you with a brow raised "We're infiltrated cops, you need to find the real terrorists, my fellow officer"
"I do? Wait what, you can't be c-" you throw him your bag and he kicks it open, letting part of a security RIG fall out. You raise a finger to your mouth as if asking for silence.
"Oooh I got it, so where are they?" pointing to a nearby bush you whisper to him "You'll need back up, these guys are no joke" he nods and runs up to the bushes while asking for help on comms.
Soon you see the entrance guards running towards the bushes. "How the fuck did you do that?" you guffaw "To learn, much you have, young one" she raises her hand in the universal sign of
'what kind of stupid reference is that?' to which you just reply with "He's a fucking rookie, they're essentially brain dead. No offense" she shrugs and raises her shotgun once more.
"None taken. Now where do we go?"
>Let's head for the main entrance, since it's cleared

You move in to disarm the bomb while Sarah guards the back of the truck. As soon as the security guards come back you see her carefully order each to drop their gun and lay on the ground.
Despite your efforts it's impossible to disable the bomb itself, but you do manage to break the remote detonator. Once that's done you and your companion rush to the front entrance before the officers can give chase.
Inside you find a building full of bureaucrats and other snobby types. It looks like some give you the stink eye but don't question it as you've already got through security.
The reception doesn't have anyone and security inside seems light. You receive a comm call from Doc "Meet me at the main office, the colony governor's" you try to respond but he cuts you off. Goddamn, you've got to rush.
You start making your way up only to notice something strange. Ducts opened up, seems like Doc really will be there. How does a doctor know how to sneak through the ventilation system of a government building?
Beyond you.

You tell Sarah to kick it while you enter the adjacent room. It's a smaller one with a door leading directly to the one you should be in. You hear the sound of the door opening,
and take it as your cue to begin the flanking maneuver. To your surprise you find not only Doc but Carla too. She seems to be doped out of her mind, slumped over a char. Sarah is knocked on the floor, a dart in her neck.
Meanwhile Doc is sitting on the colony governor's chair, his gun pointed to your girlfriend's head. "Come on in. You've still got a part to play, Phil" he looks different than the Doc you knew,
as if his emotions are finally coming out. He motions for you to take the other chair in front of the governor's table. "When I heard about what EarthGov did in Titan. That was the final straw"
"What are you talking about?" he slams the table "They play with us. To them it's considered expendable to experiment on things that could end thousands, if not more if it got out"
You can't help but agree, yet why has he betrayed you? "Alright I agree with you, but why this? And why didn't you tell me before?" he gives a sharp and grim laugh
"Tell you that you agreed to be used as a tool, a weapon. That every time I checked on you the memories of what you did were seeping into your feelings, making you want to kill yourself?
Remember that third set of fingerprints, those were mine Phil. You're not the first one I had to handle, the first, she died on her third assignment. I had to make her commit a suicide bombing so-"
"Slow down there. I didn't come to get exposition on all your motives, I came to rescue my friends" he nods "Still, you should see it like I do. We need to end them, not just Unitologists, but EarthGov too"
"So that's why you chose that moment to reveal yourself?" he plays with his gun for a bit "Yes. I know you're among the few people I can trust will do whatever it takes to end this, but I need you on my side"
"And making me commit murder will help me like your opinions... how?" he gets up, you can see from his jaw clenching and his brow that he's starting to get angry. "You were considering joining forces,
with - them - even after knowing what they did. You were considering going to them. Now you can't, and now you'll help me take down one of their pieces" he motions to the governor.
>>
>>1037845
"You'll read from the script, it'll say you're a crazy unitologist and you want to continue the destruction you caused on titan, then you'll kill him" you raise an eyebrow "What does that accomplish?"
"Once that's done I'll activate the bomb, killing all of us and erasing every evidence of this. Coupled with the anti-unitologist sentiment you raised and with the data I'm about to release on EarthGov,
well, the war that'll come will end both of them" you raise your voice at that "Or it'll end all of humanity, you crazy motherfucker" Doc slams the table again and points the gun to Carla.
"You wouldn't understand. The memories for you aren't as real, they're more like ghosts aren't they? Can you remember a single one of them?" you pause "I-" he interrupts you, shouting: "Then - do - it!"

Have you ever considered how strange it is that humans place so much trust in their sense of sight? when we first evolved to have it, it was certainly useful to notice predators and prey, in our days of endless paranoia when we were driven by survival instinct and no higher intelligent thoughts. but our sight has evolved little over the years - we only see so far on the electromagnetic spectrum, the vast majority of things are invisible. We can only see in a small cone in front of us, and even within that cone our sight is flawed - the brain fills in the gaps. Details are impossible to grasp in peripherals, and many things that are visible when directly viewed fade into invisibility for our peripherals, and we don't even notice it. Going further, even direct sight is flawed, as evident by the thousands of optical illusion tricks and pictures. You can see a still picture as moving, or you can watch as things change color when they stay the same in reality.
In short, your sense of sight, despite being thought of as your most useful and reliable sense, is flawed.

And yet, people will always utter that one phrase, "I'll believe it when I see it."

Don't believe anything you see just because you see it. Phil knows this better than we do, anons.

What are you more afraid of? The fact that there could be something out there, watching us, that we cannot see? The fact that what you see might not be real? Or is it that, even if you could see everything, there might be nothing at all waiting for us humans, no matter how far we go?

I'm just a big fan of john dies at the end (and this book is full of spiders)
Beyond all the dick jokes, there's a lot of insightful questions it asks. And a whole fuckton of great quotes.

"There are two types of people on planet Earth, Batman and Iron Man. Batman has a secret identity, right? So Bruce Wayne has to walk around every second of every day knowing that if somebody finds out his secret, his family is dead, his friends are dead, everyone he loves gets tortured to death by costumed supervillains. And he has to live with the weight of that secret every day. But not Tony Stark, he's open about who he is. He tells the world he's Iron Man, he doesn't give a shit. He doesn't have that shadow hanging over him, he doesn't have to spend energy building up those walls of lies around himself. You're one or the other - either you're one of those people who has to hide your real self because it would ruin you if it came out, because of your secret fetishes or addictions or crimes, or you're not one of those people. And the two groups aren't even living in the same universe."

You might enjoy this particular excerpt.
Doc might benefit from hearing about it too. He doesn't know how terrible the strain of this incident will be. It will break humanity's trust in one another - for if you cannot trust your government, nor the the largest religion in the world, nor your neighbors since they may be members of neither, then who can you trust? This sort of event, in which both parties are simultaneously exposed, will only end up causing mass paranoia and hysteria, which itself will play directly into unitologist hands (and the marker's own plot)
