In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

+About+
Chapter Quest is set in Warhammer 40k universe where players control a nameless Chapter Master, leader of the Ghosts of Retribution Chapter - an autonomous brotherhood of genetically engineered warriors tasked with protection of mankind.

This quest is a mixture of traditional role playing and grand strategy. Main narrative is driven by the players rather than QM and doesn't have a pre-set "main storyline".

+Announcement+

Ave, brothers.

It’s been promised a long time ago, but it seems the time when the Chapter Quest returns comes at last. My absence was long, those of you who have endured are above and beyond any thanks I may offer. Your will to remain and wait sustained me and this project, this community. On my own, I would have failed and given up a long time ago. And because of this, for better or for worse, after all the hardships, I am glad to renew regular weekly Chapter Quest.

Nerial, your High Astropath, knocks on the doors of your cell. You felt him coming down the corridor long before his physical form reached your threshold. Your psychic senses have been more active lately, or maybe it's just the after effect of frequent warp jumps.
>Good morning, sire. A soulword, an important one. Heavy encryption, requires your personal seal. But the sender is clear. It's your progenitors milord, the Raven Guard.
You nod and follow your loyal servant to the Astropathic Chambers. You notice while walking that Nerial is having more trouble getting up the stairs than he used to, it seems he's getting old. While the passage of time doesn't concern you much, it twists and degrades all mortals around you, even extraordinary ones, like your astropath. Finally, you hold the printed soulword in your hands.
>Ave, leader of the heirs of Corax. The Raven Guard received your generous gift that was granted by your brothers to Leutenant Venn on Terra. I meeting was discussed, so I am writing to follow up on the promise that my brother gave. I will be arriving soon, but I would prefer my visit to Sector Deus to be discreet. Raven Guard have many friends, but even more enemies, and the gift which you sent us could kindle flames of envy and hatred. Please return me a soulword with coordinates where in Sector Deus you would like us to meet. I expect to arrive next year. Signed, Master of Shadows, Corvin Severax.
>>
>>1027019
>Esteemed Master of Shadows, I would be honoured to host the leader of my Primogenitors.

Select a random dead trade route system near Mormark? Sounds like he prefers keeping everything on the down low.
>>
>>1027019
I shall back >>1027030 but I would like a few worlds to be 'scouted' and used as decoys to keep all preying eyes away from it. So that the meeting if even discovered would have them not be aware of which world it would be happening on.
>>
>>1027019
Oh also, can we pay for juvenat treatment for Nerial? That should keep him going for another century or so.
>>
>>1027019
>Servus, brother of the shadows. We will welcome your visit with the discretion of a ghost. You are to meet us in orbit of planet Hefaistos, subsector Cryptus, orbital coordinates x 362,234, y 273,238, y 23,123. The planet is a boiling rock of magma, and far removed from anything of interest, so the chance of unwanted attention is as minimal as can be. Yet it is close enough to our liegeworld Varda, so that a vessel leaving on deep subsectoral patrol will not draw undue attention. I trust this is to your liking.

>Emperor preserve, Chapter Master.
>>
>>1027053
That's a good idea.

Would suggest mixing with >>1027039 to add decoy worlds.

Noted, good plan.
>>1027030
System AR-3369 seems like a good spot. Mere half a dozen hours away from Mormark, close enough to major shipping routes for quick escape, but enough far away not to be picked up by passing ships.
>>1027053
>>1027055
Hefaistos it is then. While there is no reply to your soulword, you assume that this is because Severax is happy with your decision.

>>1027042
His life is not in any danger. As long as you visit Mormark and Tombstone often enough, your medical facilities there are cutting edge, so they can keep him alive, even if his physical abilities will slowly deteriorate. Proper rejuv would require sending him to Tachion Primaris and spending somewhere between. 3 - 20W depending on what kind of procedures you would go for.
+++
Now that the meeting with Corvin Severax is arranged, what would you like to do with the rest of the year? Also, am I correct to assume that CM stays in Mormarkian orbit for now?
>>
>>1027065
>Now that the meeting with Corvin Severax is arranged, what would you like to do with the rest of the year? Also, am I correct to assume that CM stays in Mormarkian orbit for now?

I believe due this year are Trianon and hunter squadron alpha finish tracking down the pirates who attacked the dominus convoy.
Also Tyrel Hagen's birthday.
Finally our investigator Hestrom tracked down D'anger and we were going to arrange a meeting with her.
>>
>>1027065
I would recommend and suggest Nerial, our High Astropath go to Tachion Primaris with a guard at the very least for the finest of Rejuv processes for the total of 20 Wealth. He has served us greatly and alas, we know not when age would strike so it would be best too add the 80+ years too him.

Persuade Eliam to come to the Iron Phoenix, we already told him we have the kids. If he's anywhere worth his salt as a trader he'll know we can't talk about this over a vox frequency, and we sure as hell aren't letting them off of Mormark. Also, get them literate and educated.

>Tyrel Hagen's birthday
You are invited to attend in two months. Do you attend yourself or send someone on your behalf? A gift of some sort would be appropriate, what would you like to give? Some suggestions:
a) Black and silver uniform made of genuine Terran silk (1W)
b) Personal light sports aircraft (4W)
c) Amusing xeno pet - legal among the nobility (7W)
d) Personal power field generator hidden in a beautifully crafted medallion (12W)
e) Nothing, we are Astartes, our presence is enough
Please roll d100 for attending the birthday or for whoever does this on your behalf.
>D'anger
You know that Tesalia D'anger is currently in Tartarus deep space station, she is there hiring various criminals, bounty hunters and toughest mercenaries money can buy. Your investigator, Wolfhound, thinks he can get a meeting with her by presenting himself as a:
a) potential client - someone rich (cost 1W)
b) potential ally - someone she can trust (give her enough hints to realise who you actually are)
c) someone not to be messed with (cost 1 Corruption - you might need to leave someone's head on her doorstep)
d) an enigma - leave her guessing till the last moment (lower chance of her agreeing to meet)
Please select one and then roll d100. You may want to give extra instructions.

Could we gift Hagen an archeotech laspistol recovered from Sector Corgus?

and strippers dressed in navy uniforms

As for D'anger, I think there's still some debate to be had. My current idea is that we meet, admit what we did and try and explain as best we can. Hoping that the explanation, coupled with the prospect of trying to oppose an entire chapter, will convince her to accept our apology.

Thoughts?
>>
>>1027115
Send Trianon. We can trust him to be clever and discreet and he is senior enough for his presence to be seen as an honor. Also it gives us diplomatic wiggle room by not being there if things go tits up
>>
>>1027098
Its rather suspicious.
Him coming to us, shortly after we grabbed the children....

>>1027115
a) potential client - someone rich (cost 1W)
Personally I think we should have her talk and get her thoughts, before revealing. Maybe pose as sorta-contact of her late father

>>1027115
I did a few side-tasks earlier.
http://chapterquest.wikia.com/wiki/Drawing_Board, those crossed out. Just as reminder...
Furthermore
Gather some insight about how anti-SM current eccleisarchy/Iron Monk sermons are/how prevalent anti-SM views are in society where IM has a stronger influence

Gather info regarding the current status of Espene Subsector dominus and Esboro subsector meridian for status of loyalist. Maybe these can be retaken with a quick strike. MIght be a good trainig for the newformed 8th company, but put them together with a more experienced. Keep in mind Esboro boss might remember bargain from somebody within the grave, so watch Malta for reinforcements

we need to gather information on the priests Kest *supposedly* killed. As they should be higher ranking, it should not prove difficult. Also allegiance of successors.

-Proposal-
Meeting with Kest, about his thoughts on the triachy religion.
>>
>>1027131
Trianon is otherwise occupied, I am afraid, hunting the convoy raiders
>>
>>1027126
No apologies. Make it clear it was "unfortunate" but we are the Emperor's Astartes and did what we had to. Being the generous sort we don't hold her blood against her and would work with her provided she doesn't do anything heretical or stupid like opposing us

Yes definitely. We should assign Hestrom to this. We should tell Canoness Engel about Dreifus' confession too, so she can independently investigate. Internal church strife is her jurisdiction after all.

As for meeting with Kest, I support finding out his views on the triarchy.

20W would grant him complete rejuv, effectively returning him to his 20s-30s physically, this is the best available treatment, restoring both interior and exterior, also improving quality of life without additional prosthetics, etc.
Do we have a go ahead for this from one more player?
>>1027098

>Dear Chapter Master, unfortunately due to differences in business practices I am at odds with Ursus family, which according to the Nobility registers holds your sovereignty over your Chapter, so I am afraid I wouldn't be able to deal with someone. However both you and your opportunities are welcome to visit my secure palace on Templos. Sincere regards, Eliam

Whilst at the party, or maybe afterwards, we should discuss the white emissary news with Hagen. Perhaps politely suggest that he 'promote' any Ursuses in the navy to desk jobs where they can't control ships.

I support this. Should allow him to reach about what, 300-350ish in total?
>>
>>1027115
We go ourselves, this is a high and important event amongst the sector nobility, we can really put on an image here. Take the Commander or a similar high-ranked officer of the Krieg unit we have loaned to us along, if it's possible to get him along from the battlefield, in addition to one of the leaders of the Order of the Ionian Tempest.

We come across as warriors who are also in their benevolence helping rebuilding Folkvangr, with plenty of allies. Kit ourselves out in our blingiest ceremonial armor and take only a small contigent of personal bodyguard, in addition to Trianion.

>>1027126
The archeotech laspistol is a great spoil from one warrior to another, no silk or noble's amusements, our way is war and we respect him for it.
Also I support Luigi on the D'anger matter.

>>1027132
We have to move at some point, and we already soulworded him. Him coming to us for 'business' prospects is better than moving the heirs anywhere or going to him. Or we could let the situation cool down a bit, but the man has been preparing for the situation for a long, long time, so we can use his network and expertise.
>>

Yes, it would be a worthile investment to ensure his health and well being remain up to par and useful for us. Experience and knowledge are such hard things to come by.
>>
>>1027140
I don't think a Rogue Trader would react well to that. They're notoriously 'fuck the police' types. Our righteous authority means nothing to them.

Respond to Eliam
>I am sorry to hear you will be unable to attend. As a trader of significant wealth and taste i was hoping for your opinion on a birthday present for Admiral Hagen's birthday. I have recently come across a pair of artisans who claim they can do exactly what i want. I am sending you a sample of their work with this courier.
Send a trusted courier with a mediocre grade medallion. Inside conceal two drops of blood: one from each of the Belisarius Twins. A clever man will have them tested and realize who they are. Let him make the next move on us
>>
>>1027174
I think we should avoid contacting Eliam for now. He doesn't want to come to us, and we shouldn't let any evidence of the kids leave the tombstone.

For now, make sure CM visits them regularly, ensure they are well taken care off and are being tutored properly.
>>
>>1027174
Dunno man, we already let him know we have the kids, his response is an obvious; "I literally cannot come here with Ursus anally probing me, I have a very very secure fortress here you can bring them to". We won't bring them there because that's a safety risk to get haemorrhoids from, any other correspondence that incriminates us is a risk as well, especially with Ursus on high alert because his most dangerous commodity in the Sector disappeared.

Yup. Essentially he won't need rejuv for another century and a half or so, but after that it becomes tricky as he's still human. Please then pay 20W. Two drops of blood provide enough plausible deniability on our front since no one could prove they aren't ancient and we can feign ignorance.

Tutoring Belisarius Twins: contact Kerius Dermont. Remind him what a benevolent overlord we have been. Inform him that we wish for him to provide tutoring to a pair of humans to groom them for ruling. He should educate them as if they were his own children being prepared for command including personal instruction from him when time permits. They are not to be mentioned ever to anyone outside Tombstone. We are trying to be polite here but this is not a request

Kinteros, a wealthy tropical pleasure world, greets you unlike any world you've seen in recent years. Neither scorching Mormarkian cold, nor deadly Vardan jungles gave you such unease as night party streets, full of almost naked, intoxicated bodies, caught in rythms of outlandish pop music. Bright neon lights, excessive decorations and general chaos make the streets of this world harder to follow than the deepest jungles. Your transport soon reaches the docks, where you board a party yacht that was clearly rented (or maybe even owned?) by Admiral Hagen. As you and your retinue appear on board, sexy servitor-dolls with curvy bodies and dead eyes approach you offering drinks, drugs and more. Krieger officers, who upon your order (though reluctantly) took off their masks, are clearly uncomfortable, but their purpose here is to look impressive and they are good at this. Both men and women part way to you as you wade through the crowd of people. Tyrel greets you with open arms and an open smile. You realise that not only he's happy to see you as an associate, but you are also the main curiosity of the night. Tyrel is a person who values being recognised by those of more noble birth and what can make him stand out more than having a Space Marine Chapter Master pay him a private visit on his birthday? You talk and laugh for a long time, then he leaves to mingle with others and you are forced to entertain a group of fascinated upper class ladies. However as night progresses you manage to slip away and meet Hagen one to one. You congratulate him, give him the archeotech laspistol which you men retrieved from Corgus Sector, he is genuinely impressed, then after he has a drink or two, you inconspicuously approach the topic of Ursus... You feel that this is a good opportunity to get a strong ally as Tyrel might be afraid to discuss such things over communications or in presence of others, but will you take the risk?
a) Openly invite him to join your plot
b) Try to make hidden invitation to join you without giving details
c) Just enjoy the evening with him and don't bring up anything unless he does

You leave Tyrel in company of some way too happy Baroness from some Tachionian mid-spire family. Her dilated pupils and unnaturally long tongue that she uses to scratch her cheek make you uneasy, but you assume that this is just some freakish fashion bodymod, rather than a mutation. Though with nobles, you never know. You leave your Kriegers to keep an eye on Tyrel and return to the main deck. The party seems to have moved downstairs, but you notice that a group of sex-dolls is walking as if with some strange purpose towards the upper deck. Something doesn't seem right, but causing a fuss at Tyrel's party would really make him unhappy. You try to call them or motion them to stop, but they ignore you. What do you do?

It seems they are not going towards where you left Tyrel. You follow them over a distance of a few dozen meters and then you notice them one by one jumping over board from the yacht. Do you do anything..? [You need to succeed AG test against them if you wish to get the initiative. They have AG of 45.] Alternatively, you feel a slightly stronger current of psychic energy. You could ignore what's happening around you for a moment and try to understand what is it you just felt.

[also please state whether you are wearing your full armour. I assume that you took off at least helmet for conversations, but it would have been quite appropriate to take off all of it, otherwise you should have been receiving penalties to charm due to intimidating nature, but we won't rollback it, just something to keep in mind for the future. However if you are in power armour, you will have some penalties for AG actions, so please choose wisely before stating.]

Look over the railing, where are they jumping? Just into the water?
Try and focus on the psychic presence.
>>
>>1027414
full armor, we feel kinda naked without it....
>You could ignore what's happening around you for a moment and try to understand what is it you just felt.
this

>We would be wearing only the FINEST Scout Marine Armor.

>Ignore what you are seeing to figure out what is going on currently.
>>
>>1027414
I assumed we would be in full armour. First i didn't think chapter masters ever left it really. Second we wanted to make an impressive show at a birthday party and it's hard to beat an Astartes in artificer armour. I agree we would have removed the helm and at most probably only a ceremonial knife which is still huge for a human

You concentrate on your inner self and feel the movements of the warp around you. And then things start to get clear. These meat-things, those dolls, they are now possessed and driven by some malicious force, that seems to be driving their soulless carcasses to do it's bidding. For a moment you even catch a glimpse of the person who is doing it - a dark haired woman, you can feel her standing a few kilometers away on a top of a skyscraper, projecting her power like an invisible and very delicate string to control those dolls. Then you hear the screams from the lower deck - as you run to the railing, you notice the last of the dolls grabbing onto the ledge and entering lower level through a window. At the same moment you feel that the witch cuts off the power flow which she's been sending - her work is done, the murder dolls are on the loose where they are supposed to be.

What will you do?
>>
>>1027440
Think very hard. Does she look like someone familiar?

Also murder the murderdolls
>>
>>1027440
"Shadow Guard to the lower decks, rogue servitors loose!"
Give our forces in orbit the location of the psyker.
"Deploy veterans and Librarian Damokleon. Surround and contain!"

Go kill the servitors ASAP. As soon as the danger is taken care of here, head for the enemy psyker.
>>
>>1027452
>>1027440
Oh and activate Ironhaunt to mess with the servitors functions!
>>
>>1027440
You and the krieg prioritize reaching and protecting the admiral and getting him off the ship. Send priority distress via armour vox and using your authority requisition and available craft and security forces to escape. Bring him to our ship and don't let him out of our sight, ostensibly because we want to protect him but also in case he is a heretic and we must turn him over. Immediately contact inquisition

Okay amendments. Alert the Kriegers, tell them to protect the lord admiral. Head down there and tear robutts apart.

Have the shadow guard head to the witch's location Try and remain unnoticed if they can see her on the roof. Surround it and block exits.

Immediately begin deploying troops from orbit via thunderhawks. Reinforcements for the shadow guard and relief for the boat

Yes/No guys?
>>
>>1027452
>>1027440
Yes, agreeing with weegee, drop below deck and engage the servitors with our Living Lightning to paralyze them and follow up with our bolt pistol. Keeping Tyrael safe is our top priority, instruct the Kriegers to evacuate him asap.

Trip has some good points, but I assume that dealing with murder dolls is a priority for you. Also Shadow Guard is instructed to zero in on you just in case there are more nasty surprises, while troops from the orbit are sent to hunt the witch (there will be extra delay due to combat).

You hear screams from down below. How will you reach the enemy?
a) Jump up and smash through the deck down below (roll straight ST test, immediate attack if successful)
b) Run to the staircase and hope the stairs will keep your weight (roll Agility+20 to move as quickly as possible)
c) Jump overboard and try to repeat what murder dolls did - grab onto the ledge and jump straight into the fray (Agility -10, immediate attack if successful)

Roll d100

>>1027485
Hey Maleficar! No, unfortunately you have only a monoknife and a boltpistol - Ironhaunt is too bulky/scary for a birthday party

Space Marine first and foremost is a heavy-weight athlete. Even with ceremonial armour and relatively little weaponry, Chapter Master tops more than a third of a tonne. 300kg of steel and muscle, driven by cold anger and pure willpower, is not something a flimsy 30cm deck can withstand when you land after jumping up into the air as high as you can. With a force of a murderous thunder strike you break through the floor and come crashing down onto one of the sexbots, immediately crushing her pretty blonde head under your adamantium-reinforced boot as you release a volley of bolts into the other end of the room, exploding the well endowed chests and gentle necks of two of her sisters. Blood and gore cover the would be victims, which murder dolls were about to rip apart with their bare hands. You notice with the corner of your eye a couple of bodies already lying on the floor, but it seems you intervened just in time - a moment longer and this place would be a slaughterhouse. There are another 3 murder dolls with you in this room and 8 naked or half naked VIPs that were caught off guard in the middle of most primal acts. How will you go about dispatching them? [Three players, please state what you do to each of them and roll d100]

First send out a stunning wave of static to briefly disable their circuits. We just need a few moments to rip and shoot them into meaty chunks, make it so they're not chopping up any more sector nobles before we evaporate them.
Using three PR's for Living Lightning because we don't want to cause a hazard and just slightly bake them.

It's been some time since you were on the field personally, but it feels good to know that you haven't lost the skill. One of the murder dolls runs straight at you. You dodge her as if dancing, she doesn't even notice your swing and one of her arms leaves her body. She can barely turn around when you slash off her leg at the knee. Her body collapses under her own weight, but that won't matter to her, because her head leaves her body before it can hit the ground. That speed, that wonderful feeling when your blade hits the mark, you realise that you miss the actual hand to hand fighting more than you thought before. Training is just not the same.
>>1027549
While the head of the first murder doll is still rolling to the side you raise your bolt pistol while turning and shoot a single bolt at the servitor that is attacking a naked lady by the window. The bolt enter her head just beneath her left eye, leaving a pretty hole. To your surprise, it doesn't detonate. A dud? Droid shudders and jumps through the window and only then, a moment later, chemical reaction at the core of the bolt catches up with it like the vengeance with the enemies of the Emperor. It's headless body splashes into the blue waves below.
>>1027558
>>1027560
The last murder doll, sensing that her tortured existence is coming to an end, grabs a decorative sword from the mantle piece and charges you. You are without a helmet, with enough speed and servitor's enhanced strength, she could potentially ram it into your eye and straight to your brain. But that won't happen - your fingers crackle with power and you unleash a lightning discharge at the murder doll. She screams, screams even though you don't think she vocal cords, and then collapses into a heap of scorched flesh and prosthetics. [Auto success on willpower to resist 9 due to other critical success rolls].
