You lay back in your chair and glance at the screens around your room.

You spent the night (and the greater part of the subsequent day) setting up cameras next to the streets of Ronin-Gai and Orient Town. They've been transmitting their footage to the laptop you bought. It took hours to set up, but it appears to have all paid off.

You noticed a few other abnormal occcurrences earlier. Such as a fight breaking out at that restaraunt you visited.

Kokonoe's voice resounds throughout the joint as you watch all reflect on all the things you heard the past few days.

She mentions, "I heard you encountered one of my colleagues."

>"Yes, ma'am."
>"You can thank Rachel for that."
>"Speaking of which, where've you been?"
>"How polite. Not even a 'good afternoon'?"
>"You heard accurately."
>"Yeah, but I didn't stick around."
>"What's your next assignment?"
>"What've you got for me this time?"
>"Are you ever going to teach me how to defend myself?"
>"I've been doing way more than that. Like setting up surveillance."

Wasn't as flawless as I thought.

"Blame Rachel," you retort. "She's the one who dragged me all the way out there to meet Makoto in the first place."

"Calm down," Kokonoe responds. "I just wanted to know how much you shared with each other."

"Well, she already knew about Terumi. Apparently, Rachel told her everything there is to know about him."

Kokonoe scoffs at that statement.

"Anyways, I didn't stick around. I worried about what kind of confusion it'd make," you go on.

Kokonoe takes her time to brood over that, answering, "It's just as well. Tsubaki was on her way down Ronin-Gai this morning, and could have crossed paths with Makoto and Kisaragi."

You feel like there are a few things she's been keeping hidden, actively refusing to talk about.

"Anyways, it's probably a good idea to not keep all our eggs in one basket."

You helpfully comment, "I've been doing way more than that, I might add; I've also been setting up surveillance."

"Huh," Kokonoe responds. "Where is it, how thorough is it, and what have you got?"

"Beside the streets of Areas 19 and 25," you respond. "There was a fight between Ragna and what looked like a Murakumo Unit that totaled a restaurant in district 25."

And a stray magical girl brandishing Muchourin.

"Speaking of which, what the hell are all these Armagus doing in one city?"

Kokonoe immediately answers, "Nothing important... except for Ouroboros."

"And, for the record, that would-be Murakumo Unit was Lambda–a lifeless doll I had one of my other subordinates, Tager, recover from the Ibukido ruins in Ikaruga," she goes on.

You wonder what the story behind that might've been.

"So, what have you got for me this time?" you request.

"I sent Tager after Noel a while ago," she responds. "I just wanted to let you know in case he runs into her. If he does, I want you to follow her."

"By the way, are you ever going to teach me how to defend myself?" you inquire. "I still don't know how to-"

She cuts you off, answering, "Eventually."

You know using seithr comes more easily to the furious–and the aggressive. You consider what Terumi's fighting style might look like–the way the balisong knives you were given require constant pressure and sudden force to effectively use.

Like teeth instead of carving implements.

Kokonoe's dismissive answer snaps you out of it.

"Thanks," you respond with wry but well-meaning vitriol. "Real informative."

"Speaking of which, where have you been?" you ask. "I didn't hear a thing from you yesterday."

She hurriedly answers, "Sorry. I've got other people to deal with. And I had to get some sleep."

>"Ah; yes. Sleep. I remember what that was like."
>"I'll be sure to meet up with Tager if I find him."
>"Where is Tager now?"
>"Anyways, I'll let you know if I find Noel."

Geistalt, you could have used first thread still. It would stay on the board for a week.

Sorry. And thanks for the advice. It's been ages since I've done this... and, from what I remember, threads freeze upon getting archived.

If they don't (anymore?), I'll be sure to post it in the last one... but I WILL archive all this to give this chapter a new summary.

I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the way archived threads freeze (reject any new comments, that is).

I am, however, frustrated.

Let me know which thread I ought to use.

"Ah; yes. Sleep. I remember what that was like," you comment.

"Hey, everyone has to get it sometime, kid," Kokonoe snarls at you, unamused.

"I, for one, hadn't slept in days. So, next time, go easy on the criticism sauce and think before judging others."

"Yes, ma'am," you answer. "But don't blame me when I end up biting it 'cause I don't know how to fight."

"Noted," she adds.

"Anyways, I'll be sure to meet up with Tager if I find him," you go on.

"No need to worry about that," Kokonoe responds. "He's in the same district as you right now. He was that big, mechanical lug who transferred Lambda back to the lab–if you saw him."

She goes on, saying, "And I only want you to follow her. If she sees you, try to stall her. The more time we have to apprehend her, the better."

"Got it," you reply. "And I think I've got visual," you add as you catch sight of an insanely buff, orange, goggle-wearing cyborg. He towers over literally everyone else in sight.

"Then what the hell am I doing talking to you?" Kokonoe facetiously answers back, laughing.

You wait around a few more hours. By dusk, you notice Noel wandering the streets. You draw another crude intervention ars, hoping to notify Kokonoe.

"I found her," you tell her. "Repeat: I have visual on Lieutenant Vermillion."

"Excellent work; where is she?" Kokonoe responds.

As she finishes that sentence, you see her and Tager stumble into each other.

"She just made contact with Tager," you declare. "They're just a few blocks away."

"Well, help him!" Kokonoe interjects.

>"Got it."
>Leave without a word, as quickly as possible.

Anyways, thanks for the encouragement./sarcasm. I might as well go full fanfic mode while I'm at it.

It's probably for the best, desu.
>>
"Got it," you reply, reassuring Kokonoe on the way out.

After about 5-10 minutes, you reach the street you found Noel and Tager on.

You find Tager kneeling on the pavement at an intersection, worn and beaten.

"I take it Kokonoe already let you know about me," you tell him, going on to ask, "Where's Noel?"

"Sorry..." he comments. "She got away..."

He makes a weary gesture with his right arm, pointing down the street to Kagutsuchi Port.

But Noel was already long gone.
