/qst/ - Quests

This seems kinda familiar, right gents? Haha! Ah, 1800 on a Tuesday and I'm running a late. The more things change, I guess

Anyway, don't know if this'll be a regular thing, probably not (Thank fuck, I'm sure some of you are saying! hahah!).

I'm going to link the storytime thread as the archive of the quest so far- the guys maintaining it have done an outstanding job, in my opinion, and have really gathered up everything and done an outstanding job in making it all accessible and pulling in the most relevant stuff from the threads.

https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/kant-o-celle-quest-a-kantai-collection-game-transcribed-from-4chan.345865/

I suppose that's all that's really relevant, so let's get this party going. See if I remember how to do this, even! haha!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It raining.

OF COURSE it’s fucking raining, you think. Of fucking course. It had to be something, might as well have been fucking rain.

You actually can’t bitch too much- first official op of the war and you came out smelling like roses. Four ships recovered from the oathbreakers, at least one of them destroyed in return, and one captured. You try not to dwell on the too Japanese commandos that won’t be going home too much.

You’re even partly successful.

Yamato’s already led her sister inside, with the throng of ships following them at a respectful distance, leaving you and the three German ships standing outside.

You look at them, they look at you- the meaning is clear enough. They don’t know where to go and are waiting to follow you. This ain’t what you signed up for, but right now you figure it’s fair enough. Someone will be along quick enough to take charge of them, you just gotta show them where to rack out.

Not that you’d know where. The shipgirl barracks whatever the fuck they call it is the old BOQ, renovated a bit and that’s it. There’s plenty of empty rooms, but you’re normally about as far removed from who goes where as you can be- shit, Settle probably doesn’t even know, that sumg fuck. You can see him grinning back there with-

Arizona.

Now, if anyone would know what the fuck rooms these girls are supposed to go in, it’d be her. ‘Course, you could also try to grab Yams and see if she knows of an empty room- you’ve gotta get your shit back from her anyhow, right?

[] Ask the mute. You’ve got her charades bullshit figured out well enough and she’d know if anyone does
[] Go get Yamato to tell you. She’ll know an empty room even if she has no idea where they’re supposed to go.
[] Fuck it. Find the first empty room and drop them off there. You’re tired too god dammit.

No reason to give Musashi more teasing oppurtunies than necessary, and going to Yamato's room is giving ammo. Ari leading also gets Musashi used to US ships faster.

I went to Pearl Harbor for the 75th Anniversary. I flew about 4,855 miles with pic related in my pocket, and then had it in my pocket for four days of touring Oahu. It got a little crumpled, but I was able to bring it aboard the memorial on Dec. 5. Nearly forgot to take pictures, too.

[x] Go get Yamato to tell you. She’ll know an empty room even if she has no idea where they’re supposed to go.

Deciding that rain sucks- and that soaked combat gear sucks even more- you head into the building, the three ships following you dutifully.

The duty desk- as usual- is staffed by one navy officer and one self-defense forces officer, both of whom look at each other before looking at you. You probably rank them both- well, maybe- but unless they know who you are, they won’t know that. Not like you wear rank pins into combat.

“What ya need?” The ensign- you just saw his pins- asks.

“Nothing, just showing these three where to rack out.” You respond, starting to turn down the hallway towards the stairwell- they’re repairing the elevators, and you never trusted those fucking things here anyway.

“Wait a second.” He says quickly, moving to get up out of his chair. “I’ve never seen them or you before in here. You’re gonna have to get someone to sign off on that, I can’t just let-”

“I’ll vouch for him, Ensign Marshall.” Yamato says, approaching from the other hall. “Lieutenant Beauregard is probably looking for me.”

“Sorry Ma’am.” He says, sitting back down. “You’re good to go, LT.”

You bite back a snarled response.

“You know where these three are supposed to sleep?” You ask, following your friend down the hall she came from.

She shakes her head. “I’m not even sure where Musashi is supposed to go. She’s staying in my rooms with me.”

“Empty rooms?”

“There’s some at the end of the hall. The last rooms down there. I think they’re even unlocked, so housekeeping can get in.”

“Desk has the key?”

She nods, turning into the stairwell. “I can go get it, if you want.”

[] Yeah, if you would.
[] Nah, how about you show these three where they’ll be sleeping, I’ll go get it.

[x] Yeah, if you would.

“Yeah, if you would.” You respond, nodding. “I’ll show these three where they’re sleeping and get them squared away, then I can get my shit back from you, if you don’t mind.”

She shakes her head. “Crab left a message for you, too.”

Oh boy.

“Ok, I’ll get it from you later. You wanna just come up when you get the keys?”

She nods, stepping past you back into the hallway. “You remember where my rooms are?”

“Yeah, third floor.”

“The empty rooms are all the way down past mine, at the end of the hall.”

“End of the hall, got it. C’mon, let’s get you three some beds.” You say, watching Yamato for a second before leading the way up the stairs.

“She seems nice.” Nurnberg comments.

You nod. “She’s good people. Deserves better than she’s gotten so far. Hopefully her sister coming back changes shit for her.” You leave off the rest of the statement- if it doesn’t get her into the fight, where she wants to be, you’re going to probably start training her on the low. Musashi proved you need the support sometimes.

The rooms are a corner suite. Nothing fancy, especially by civilian standards, but there’s a bedroom and a kitchen in there, so it’s as nice as anything they’re gonna get otherwise. You reach over to hit the lights and usher the two destroyers in.

They walk about two steps in and stop, looking at the rooms and then back at you, expectantly. Just what they’re expecting, you have no idea. Nurnberg, meanwhile, is looking through the rooms, turning on lights and getting a feel for the place.

[] They’re probably tired- show them the bedroom then bail. You can’t afford any more rumors anyway…

[x] See if they’re hungry or something- last food any of you had was on the flight back from Guam.

You’re about to say something when your stomach emits a chain of loud gurgling rumbles, tapering off into a drawn out-squealing that slowly fades away to leave three sets of eyes looking at you.

“You hungry?” You ask, getting nods from all three ships. They’re probably too fucking awestruck for words.

“Alright, dump-” You cut yourself off- they don’t have anything to leave in the room at the moment, so it’s kind of stupid to tell them to dump their crap and you’ll show them where to eat. Not that you’re sure any place is open this time of night, other than the mess. Well, that’s not entirely true, you know there’s some 24 hour joints in town, you’ve been to a few of them variously with Hornet, Tatsuta and her sister, and Yamato before, but you don’t know if you can get hold of a government card that quickly. Maybe if you hit up Naka…

“What sounds good?” You ask dumbly, scrambling for time.

“We don’t care.” Max responds. Well, at least she talks, you think. She spent most of the flight home asleep, and said all of three words after that. So she’s managed to double her count. Good on her.

“Whatever you want to get is fine with us.” Her sister- Lebe, her name comes to you after a second- confirms. “We don’t mind.”

Nurnberg nods, right as there’s a knock at the doorframe behind you. You twist in place to find Yamato dangling four sets of keys. “Three for them, one for me.” She explains, handing them out. “I’m supposed to be in charge of this floor, since I’m Goto’s secretary.”

You nod, watching the two destroyers turn the keys over in their hands, wonderingly. “Well, pocket those and we’ll go get some chow.” You say. Max nods, half to herself, putting the key in the top of her boot, while Lebe starts a bit at your voice before taking off her cap and sticking it in the inner band there.

“Good to go?” You ask- they all nod.

“Um..” Yamato says, behind you. “Do you think you should go eat like that? You can leave your equipment in my room, if you want...”

She’s got a point. Wandering into a place in town- or even the mess- in full battle rattle with a SMG hanging off your front probably won’t go over too well, and you ought to secure Fenrir, as well.

[] To hell with it, the chumps can fucking deal. Besides, no one’s gonna question it right now anyway

So some of us do have some writeups for you all, but we're not sure whether to go ahead with them or not--on checking with Ghost, he advised reposting anything shared here in the next main thread, and I'm inclined to agree.

So, well, here I am, putting it to you. I've got about an hour and could probably leave my stuff for someone else to post on my behalf, like Deme's done.

I actually have two things for you guys--Nakatime material from a different perspective, and some porn. It's "canon" in that it happened, but I specifically wrote it to be easily replaced with a fade-to-black and fade-in to the next bit. Are you guys interested in either? Both? Save it for a proper thread? Let me know.

[x] Probably better to secure it in the armory anyway. We’ll head there first.

“Probably better secure it in the armory.” You state, earning a nod from Yamato. “And you said Crab had to see me.”

She pauses for a second. “He did, yes.” Yamato isn’t sure what to make of Crab- but then again, most people aren’t. It’s not every day you meet a stop-lossed warrant officer.

Which is what makes Settle’s calling him a Sargent even more funny- but that’s between Settle and Crab as far as you’re concerned, and Crab’s just as happy to collect pay and operate underneath the radar, same as you.

“Alright. Well, come on. Are there govs out front?” You ask, referring to the small fleet of vehicles kept for the shipgirls in the parking lot. They’re only rated for work on base, but you’re not worried about it- besides, you can sign out something hilariously impractical for the narrow Japanese streets if you need to.

“Mhmm. You want me to drive?” Yamato asks, kind of hopefully.

“Nah, I got it. let’s go.”

You head back down to the desk, singing out one of the SUVs sitting in the lot and jumping into the driver’s seat, having to adjust it so you can find a reasonably comfortable way to sit with your wargear all on. Not for the first time, you wish you could just summon and dismiss this shit the way the ships do.

The drive to the armory is short- and this time of night, there’s almost no traffic on the road, a welcome thing, considering how fast and aggressively you drive.

The armory- the original armory- was here just for the use of the base security element. Back when the war started, Crab took the building over for maintaining and repairing the shipgirls’ guns. Of course, that was before anybody knew they self-repaired the way they did- which left Crab with an amazingly well outfitted machine shop, a crew to run it, and precious little to do. He may bitch about it a lot, but the projects you give him are practically all he does beyond his own insane shit. Pulling up into the gravel lot, you notice the lights are still on- and you can practically feel the music hammering through the ground. Crab does like his woofers.

You get out of the suburban to hear the muted strains of Devildriver’s ‘swinging the dead’ pounding through the air. You turn as the rest of the doors open and the girls all pile out.

You’re not entirely sure exposing them to Crab right now is entirely healthy… but on the other hand, they’re going to have to meet him sooner or later.

[] Have them stay in the truck- you’ll just drop off your gear and be right back.
[] Might as well make sure they’re not too traumatized by him- let them come along.

Have Yams get in the driver's seat. For when we have to run from the crazy, saw-wielding crab.
>>
All right, on checking with Ghost, he's okay with me posting them now.

You might recall that when we last left the little cruiser that couldn't, she'd just finished bluffing Tatsuta, trying to get her to stay alive by dangling the threat of harming Tenryuu over her head, on pain of letting herself die. In the hall after leaving, Harder admitted that he'd heard everything, and Naka realized that it felt like ages since she'd been able to see his face.

A final warning: HERE THERE BE LEWDS. http://pastebin.com/76B2SNnG

Actual Nakatime can pick up after this without having to read it and lose nothing, if you're not of a sort. The next post will be what comes (hurr) immediately after.

In her sleep, Naka murmurs and turns over, wrapping her arms around you a little tighter.

In the dim light of the room, you pull her close again, gently brushing the hair from her face to see her expression. Peaceful.

You love her. You know she loves you. You know being with her is helping. You know it every time you go to bed together, spending an hour holding her to warm her cool little body, every time her heart starts beating again after you're done, how she lays a hand on her pale chest and feels it when she thinks you're not paying attention.

But she's still pushing you away, and it's killing you both.

You know it every time her fingers brush your face after that hour, feeling your lips turning blue, every time you see the silent apology and quiet defeat in her eyes when she finds a cut on your chest from her steely hair, every time she slips into the fugue and goes into something that isn't sleep. You know it every time she wakes up, sounding more drawn and exhausted than when she fell under, asking dazedly how long, or where, or when she is.

But right now, she's asleep, slender arms around your middle, her heartbeat slowing again. It'll be gone by the time she wakes up, you know from experience. She whispers your name, a little smile playing on her cold lips.

God, even like this, she's so fucking beautiful.

You lie there, holding her close, brushing her arm lightly for you don't know how long. Then it happens. You can practically feel her stiffen, body going colder and deader, the light and life fading from it. Her eyes open--not a tired flutter, but as mechanical as raising a shade--and the blue lanterns beneath wink on. Your breath rolls over her nape, only to turn to scattering needles of frost. Her muscles relax just enough to bring her slack, lying like a frigid corpse as her fingers untwine and the girl you call Naka vanishes from the room.

Damn it. Damn it damn it damn it.

Worst of all--worst than seeing her fall limp, worse than wondering (again) if she'll ever wake up, and worse than the biting cold that goes deeper than bone to someplace you can't name--worse than all of that, she told you to get away from her. She made you promise.

And god fucking damn every little thing, you're gonna do it.
>>
>>1006480
'Just for an hour,' she pleaded, and you repeat to yourself bitterly, mocking yourself as you yank your hat on over a cloud of breath. 'I couldn't handle it if I woke up and I had...' You pause just long enough to lay your coat over her, now staring straight up into her ceiling, unmoving, unblinking, maybe unthinking. She's Down There somewhere.

And, disgusted with your weakness, you storm out of the room.

You were never one for walking. Walking time is thinking time, and thinking time just reminds you how fucking stupid and bullshit this is. And submarines, well, you think in four dimensions, with some of the best computers the Navy had to offer. You're good at thinking. You think at a sprint, and second by second, turning it all over again and again, your steps become a stomp. Finally, at the furthest dock out on the water of Yokosuka, with no more stomps ahead of you, you flop down bonelessly, ass hitting the pier a little harder than you'd like, and scowl out onto the sea.

You should BE in there, damn it. You should be doing something that isn't THROWING FUCKING ROCKS AT THE FUCKING OCEAN FULL OF ICY FUCKING FISHCUNTS THAT ARE KILLING YOUR FUCKING CRUISER.

You wrenched your arm hard, slinging the last stone, muscles already telling you what a bad idea it was. You ignore them, winding up for another--

Only to be arrested by the lightest of tugs on your wrist.

You turn, snarl already on your lips, to find an already-flinching little Jap. Ugh, one of those destroyers, that was exactly what you didn't want right now.

"U-um," she stammers, her hair a snaggly mess. "Excuse me."

"Get lost, squirt," you hiss, with all the meager restraint you can manage. You go to throw, and she tugs again.

"A-are you okay?" She persists, sounding way less okay than you are. "I-I just want to--"

"I said FUCK OFF," you growl lethally--wincing as you remember the look on Naka's face as you argued about this in the CIC not two days ago. "I'm not in the mood. Leave me alone, or I'll..."

"O-or what?" She squeaks, eyes teary. "You'll kill me? A-again?"

Your eyes widen. This girl--

Expended four torpedoes and one Jap destroyer.

"Ikazuchi." That was her name.

She gives a shaky little grin, finally letting you go to toss a wary salute. "Reporting for duty!"

You stare at her, eyes watery under her brown mop top, smaller even than Naka. With a huff, you turn back to the sea, looking away as she carefully folds her legs to sit beside you. "Whaddaya want?" You grumble.

"To help you," she replies earnestly. You side-eye her in silence as she picks up one of your rocks.

You scoff darkly. "You can't help me."

"You're worried about Miss Naka, right?"

You turn back to her, ignoring the thundering in your heart. "How'd you know?"

She giggles. "We all heard about your fight. Hibiki thought you cheated on her. Akatsuki thought you broke up with her. Inazuma..." She trails off as she sees the scowl on your face deepen by several magnitudes.

"She's not wrong," you tell her bitterly. "Though I guess..." Just saying it out loud hurts. "I guess she's gonna break up with me."

"...Why?" she asks gingerly.

"Because she's a fucking idiot," you roar, pounding the dock with your fist. "Because she's scared she's going to hurt me and so she'd rather just go commit stupidcide than listen to me or take my help or let me in."

You plunge back into stormy silence, your own eyes starting to sting with tears you bitterly fight down. Arms curled around your front, you rest your chin on your knees, struggling to focus on taking the next breath.

For a long time, Ikazuchi says nothing. You actually forget she's there for a while.

"We're worried too," she murmurs quietly. "About Miss Tatsuta."

Right, Fatsuta almost caught it in that fight--maybe she did and it just hadn't caught up to her yet. You'd almost forgotten. And yet, that morning, you'd threatened to drop her like Little Boy. You don't know what to say to that.

Ikazuchi kicks her little feet and throws a stone, plunking somewhere out in the dark. "We were scared. But seeing Miss Tenryuu trying not to cry... that was the worst."

You frown. Crazy one-eyed sword bitch always did have this gaggle nipping at her heels, didn't she?

"So," she continues bravely, wiping her eyes at yet more tears coming unbidden. "We tried to cheer her up. And... well, you look like you need cheering up too."

You turn back to look at her as she wings another stone. Finally, with a huff through your nose, you pick up another of your own and fling it after.

"I don't know what I'm gonna do," you admit, staring intently out into the black water. "I can't find it, I can't shoot it, I can't kill it. All I can do is--is watch." Watch her get taken from you.

"'Let you in?'" Ikazuchi asks, winding up to hurl another stone--it glances off at a shallow angle, tumbling off her palm early.

"Release later," you tell her absently. "Don't let it tumble off your fingertips, this isn't baseball. Gotta snap your elbow for distance." She picks up another, and tries again, and you nod as it sails out and disappears into the murk. "Good. And... yeah. I think she's going to try to leave. Soon."

She frowns, peering into the pile intently, sifting through to find the perfect rock to hurl into the sea. "Is she mad?"

"No," you say emphatically. "No! She's scared. Scared of--of herself. Of hurting me. Of hurting anyone." Of hurting everyone. You're almost sure she was about to ask you to put her down, last time it came up. You're also almost sure you'd have thrown her out the window if she tried.

The destroyer pauses. "Does she want to go?"

You don't even need to say anything, lips tight as you shake your head. Of course not. How do you explain this to her? You can't tell her Naka's secrets. However you hate it, however much they drag her down, they're hers to hold.

"...Then chase her."

You look up, and she gives a nervous giggle.

"Chase her!" She repeats. "Sometimes, girls want to be chased. Akatsuki would love this..."

"Chase her, how?" What, dive into the ocean and punch the kraken in the teeth? "How do you chase someone who's trying to get away?"

"You're sure she wants to be with you?" she asks. You nod angrily. "Then just don't let her. Help her, be there for her. It's romantic!"

"How do I know when to chase her?" You ask. "She needs space, I can't just..."

She stands up, dusting off her skirt, and gives you a little pat on the hat, mussing your hair. "You're a nice man. You'll know."

With that, she throws one last stone, skipping three times before slipping out of view, and leaves just as quickly as she came.

Chase her, huh?

.....

A few hours later, Naka should just be coming out of her trance. Light is just peeking over the horizon as the sun rises, and you're just finishing your long walk back into the port. It's funny. When you first met her--when she confronted you in the lunch room, what feels like a lifetime ago, you remember your lip curling into a wicked sneer. You told yourself, 'I'm gonna get that bitch.'

And with the tape recorder in your back pocket, rolling the engagement ring between your fingers, you resolve that you're going to do just that.

[x] Have them stay in the truck- you’ll just drop off your gear and be right back.

You shake your head, causing all three of them to freeze. “Stay in the truck, I’ll be right back.” you order, getting you blank looks from the two little ones- nurnberg nods and climbs back in.

The destroyers though… They both start trying to stare you down, Max’s impassive look doing almost as much as Lebe’s pleading one. You shake your head again. “Stay with Yamato and Nurnberg, I’ll be right back out.” You repeat. Neither of them make moves to comply.

Unfortunatley for them, you’re impatient. You step over to them, both on the same side of the truck as you, and pick up Lebe first, planting her back in the seat next to Nurnberg, who reaches out to put a hand on her shoulder as you back out of the cab and turn to Max.

Who’s summoned her outfit.

It almost sends your heart into your throat- but her weapons are all pointed well away from you, and she’s not moving, her arms folded across her chest, her look clear- she’s not getting back in the truck.

You smile down at her, almost- almost- admiring her blatant defiance, though all that weight can’t be good on her injured leg.

“So that’s how it’s gonna be, huh?” You ask.

“I’m going with you.” She responds, her voice even. “Lebe might stay, but I won’t.”

“Is that so?”

She actually hesitates a split second before nodding.

She looks shocked as you reach down to scoop her up, her outfit fading as you do so- judging by how wide her eyes get, that wasn’t her doing, either. You’ll ponder that later as you walk around the SUV to deposit her squarely in Yamato’s lap. “You sit there, I’ll be right back.” You state as you do so.

“But-”

“But nothing. I won’t even be a couple minutes and I trust Yamato with my life.” You respond. “That good enough?”

She nods after a second. “Fine.”

If you didn’t know any better you’d swear she was spoiled as hell.

You end up having to hammer on the door with the butt of Fenrir before the music turns down and Crab opens it, his welding hood up. “bout goddamned time you fag.” He says.

“I was fucking busy.” You say, stepping in. “The fuck do you want?”

“I got your shit.” He says, pointing to a pair of large black pelican cases. “You fucking owe me.”

You eye them both. “Is that-”

“I fucking built the things myself. They’re to your spec, within a couple millionths.”

“And the other one?”

“Same fucking deal, plus a couple things I figured you’d like. I got better toys. Hot saw with metal cutting teeth. Anyway, get your shit and get out, I’m busy.”

“I need to drop off my shit.” You say, heading back to the armorer’s cage.

“You want me to do those mods to your fucking toy while it’s here?” He asks. “I got some ideas to bring it in line with what you wanted.”

Naka's maximum range is 5,000 nautical miles at 14 knots. Harder's is 11,000 nautical miles surfaced at 10 knots. Harder only has to go slightly faster to keep up with Naka, while still maintaining a higher maximum range.

[x] Go for it.

You stop to think for a second before nodding. “Yeah, go for it.”

He points over at a steel worktable. “Leave it over there. Let me guess, you haven’t cleaned it since you last shot it either.”

“Well, I just got the fuck back from guam, so…. Fuckin no.”

“Figures. Fag. Alright, I’ll take care of it. If I can’t get it apart I won’t fuck with it at all. You can’t replace the barrel or the breech, right?”

You nod. “Yeah, both of those are fucking one-off.”

“Fuckin typical. Ok, fine, I’ll handle it. Want me to call you when it’s done?”

You nod. “If you could, it’d be fuckin nice.”

“Ok, fine. Now go back to chasing ass or whatever the hell it is you do.” He says, turning the music back up to ear-splitting volume.

You drop the rest of your equipment on the table in the arms locker- you and crab are the only ones in and out of there anyway, you figure, and you can tackle the mess later. He’s already turned back to whatever he’s working on as you leave, the blinding white light of the welding arc lighting the ceiling above you, casting odd, gigantic shadows of his welding hood.

Stepping outside is a welcome relief from the music- you like it loud, Crab likes it lethal. At least, damn near.

The truck is running, with music playing as you get in. A local station, some flavor of the happy J-pop bullshit you can barely tolerate. Both of the destroyers seem to enjoy it- though Max is clearly somewhat miffed at you. She can deal, you think.

Afterall, you’re not her father. Fuck that, that’s Settle’s gig.

“Ok, where to?”

“There’s always the mess hall.” Yamato offers.

“What about that place in town?” You ask.

She shrugs. “Do you want to go like that?”

“What do you- oh.” You say, looking down. The blood on your combat shirt where you got hit is still there, though the wound itself is bandaged. There’s a small spot of red on the gauze where it’s bled through, but it looks like it’s not still bleeding. You’re also covered in dirt and sand, and probably smell terrible to boot.

[x] Yep! Into town!

You think about it for a second, then shrug. Fuck the haters, right? “Into town!” You declare, stepping on the gas a bit hard as you turn out of the armory lot and make for the gate.

“What’s even open?” Yamato asks. “Cocos?”

You shrug- there’d been talk of a 24 hour schedule there, owing to how much business the shipgirls brought in- but it ain’t always your thing. You’d just as soon a good burger, but figure the odds. “There’s Nawlins.”

“Hmm.” Yamato says, thinking. They’re a BBQ and Beer joint- who did adopt a 24 hour schedule to accommodate the base better. It’s been paying off too- you know for a fact Hornet eats there pretty frequently, and Arizona will occasionally grab an escort and head there. Even if they eat there once a month, it’s enough to pay the bills for the extended operation time, and then some.

You’re stopped at the gate by the guards. “Sorry Lt, it’s regs.” the lead guard, a corporal, apologizes, taking your ID and looking in the SUV. “uh… actually, hang on, sir.” He says, holding your ID a second.

“There a problem, marine?” You ask.

He nods. “Yessir, there is. Admiral Settle phoned us about a half hour ago, you’re not to leave post.”

“What.”

He nods again. “Sorry sir, he said it was a security thing and you’d get it. He said if there was anything you wanted from off post, to let us know and we could send a runner, but you’re not to leave the base.”

“Anything?”

“Within reason, sir.” He clarifies quickly- there went the hookers and blow you’d have asked for otherwise.

[] Send a runner to pick up an order anyway, you can eat somewhere on post.
[] You can probably sneak off base anyway. Not from this gate, but there’s others.

If we can make the dumbasses questioning our requisition items go barking into a pit of troll dolls, I think we can justify feeding them a noodle cart. One super-dreadnought, one light cruiser, and two destroyers is practically a task force, and in those words and cost comparisons we can pull this off.

[x] Send a runner to pick up an order anyway, you can eat somewhere on post.

“Fine. Let us get an order together, have one of your guys draw a truck.”

“A truck, sir?”

“You know how much these girls can put away?”

He turns pale- the rumors, such as they are, aren’t all confirmed to everyone- most people aren’t aware of just how much a shipgirl can eat. Thank god, you think, that none of the carriers are here- Hornet can put away about six dozen double quarter pounders in the time it takes you to eat two. And the fries. And the drinks.

At least it won’t all go to her thighs, you think.

The runner- a private, with a fresh MCT haircut- was smart enough to bring a notebook. Kid must have worked as a waiter once upon a time- he takes the long order down just fine, reads it back, and then takes off, a government credit card secured in a pocket on his IOTV.

Leaving directions, you decide to all return to the German girl’s new rooms to eat. You and Yamato sit in the living room as they explore their new rooms a bit- Z1 and Z3 quickly laying claim to the bed, leaving Nurnberg the fold-out couch you’re currently on. She shrugs when Yamato apologizes, saying it’s better than she’s had in quite a while.

The corner rooms have a reasonable view of the docks, where you can see repair work ongoing to the steel ships moored out there, Yamato’s old drydock occupied by a tico. She looks at it for a while before turning away.

You’re about to ask if she’s alright when there’s a knock at the door. The destroyers- both exploring the kitchen- freeze at the sound. You file that one away- probably not a response you wanted to see- and move to open it, finding the runner there with a cart. He looks a bit harried. “This isn’t all of it, sir.” He says, helping to roll the cart into the room. “I’ll have to make another trip at least, maybe two.”

“That’s fine, marine.” You say, nodding. “Get to it, they’re gonna be pretty hungry.”

“Yessir.” He responds- probably hoping you didn’t catch him staring at Nurnberg and Yamato.

But you did. Oh, you did.

The Germans have all clustered around the cart- you have to hand Yamato the paper and foil trays over the destroyer’s heads. “You girls go sit down, we’ll get this.”

“We can help!” Lebe insists. “Let us help?”

She seems so desperate you nod, allowing her to take your place in pulling the trays from the cart and hand them over to Yamato, who opens them up and sets them on the counter, putting some on the table as she decides what they’ll start on. You’ll probably get a plate yourself- though you don’t even count on that.

There’s easily better than a hundred pounds of food there on the table by the time it’s all said and done, with paper plates and plastic utensils from Yamato’s room rounding out the settings.

“Dig in, girls. it’s only gonna get cold.” You say, smiling along with Yamato as the three hungry ships help themselves. Given the way they dig in- about like one of Crab’s fabled hot saws going through a side of beef- you’d say it’s appreciated.

It almost- Almost- makes you forget that Settle is gonna give you nonstop shit about this whole deal. But that’s alright, you got his range and heading- he’s got nothing you can’t counter.

Afterall, you do talk to Arizona. You know what she’s bought.

And that's it from me! Haha!

Brought back some memories, man. I kinda miss doing regular runs, but with school I can't figure out where I'd work them in. Shame.

For anyone wondering- IDK if this'll restart things or not. It's honestly something I wanted to run just because, catch a change of pace from my usual and maybe do something y'all would enjoy. Don't know if you did or not, but hopefully you had fun!

Anyway, if we start seeing regular KCQ again, I guess I'll see you guys there!

As always, gents, hope you enjoyed, and cheers!

>Keep in mind the Russian thing is something we're... developing. It is NOT "Hurr Russians bad"
Funny you mention that, because that was the biggest thing.

I outright stopped reading when I hit that. I sighed, tabbed away, and did something else for a half hour or so to build up the resolve to go back and force myself through it. Discovering that that segment was only a transition and not the remainder of the piece was a huge relief. I just, I got more than my fill of 'evil russians kidnapp magical little girls' from strikers 89 and pj witches. Way more than my fill. I'm seriously wondering if you used to have a little sister with magical powers who has stolen by russians and the experience left you traumatized. I'm sure you're a good enough writer to weave some explanation that makes their over-the-top behavior understandable, but that's after the fact. On its face, it was just groanworthy. If I wanted to read about max and lebe getting abused by military officials the sad panda has plenty of material in that vein.
It's just a pet peeve of mine with kantai collection stories, edgy fucks just flock to the idea. 'hurr bdurr shipgirl scrapping yards' doesn't win you any favors either.

...Anyway, like I said, everything else was great, I just got overly peeved by that.

The other thing feels more like an oversight that came from how long it took you to write- namely, how everybody acts super surprised about the Abyssals having ground troops. I'm guessing you wrote that bit before, you know, Iwo Jima. That place that's full of Abyssal ground forces that people have been fighting for a week or so by the time of Rebound. And also before the boarding action in Sunda Strait.
Like I said, just a minor continuity goof that stood out to me.

I also still think that posting it when you did, where you did, was a mistake- especially since people showed up to the thread who had never seen it before just like I was afraid was gonna happen.

If you don't want Russians to be depicted as awful people from an awful shitstain the size of a country, convince them to not be awful people from an awful shitstain of a country irl.
>>
>>1007334

That's all fair, yeah. Like I said, the biggest thing I know is the Russia thing- it is not lol, russia bad, but it's designed more to help lead into kind of a look at how the war is affecting nations- the emotional response it's eliciting, I guess. I don't wanna go too much farther into it here than that.

As for posting it on SB... I mean, to be fair, where else was I going to post it? At least, like this, a chunk of you guys knew about it, had a chance to read it- and there's always going to be guys who straight up aren't interested in writeups and would have asked about things anyway. Frankly I'm more interested in seeing what happens when Hate's rescuees finally meet Naka.

They were captured by the Abyssals, and Musashi even forced to fight for them against her will, so maybe they can help give Naka some perspective on her situation that others couldn't.

>>
>>1007731
I don't know whether to be excited or scared?

>>
>>1007709
It goes without saying Melp and the terrible twosome will be involved in anything related to Naka's condition.

Though I've actually come to see those two bints slightly differently after thinking on it. "Ships are themselves and the memory of their crews", and the crews of those two ships basically went insane with lead poisoning. Thus, Terror and Erebus are basically the equivalent of human children who injested or were exposed to high levels of lead and became violent due to how lead affects the human brain. So I no longer believe they are irredeemable, simplyvanother level of victim, though redemption will probably be hard to achieve with their current mindsets and actions.
