--------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been a hectic night. It started with a parachute jump that went awry, then the long trek to find your squad. And when you found them they had a very valuable person prisoner indeed, the daughter of the general in charge of the facility you were meant to raze to the ground. It took a bit of convincing, both to the commander of the operation and to your prisoner, but you were eventually able to set a plan into motion to draw out the enemy so you could strike the base when it was weakest. And the gambit worked, sure there were casualties but they were minimal when compared with how many people you could have lost.

As soon as you were inside the base, you began to deviate from the original plan, switching your attention from the panzerhund production line to the restrected bowels of the base. It took both brains and brawn, and not to mention a short crawl through the vents, but you managed to infiltrate the area without being found out. But that was where things started to get weird.

If the hallucination of a raven-haired angel didn't clue you in that there was unnatural things afoot, then the mere presence of an 'Occult Studies' section should have been enough warning. And while it took a bit of digging, you were able to gain entry into said section.

Now, while hallucinating of a beautiful woman might otherwise be considered a mark of combat fatiuge. In this tiny slice of controlled hell you found out that not only was it natural in a sense, but it was tied with something long thought eradicated from the world.

Magic.

And not the kind of magic that could be performed by any old schmuck with slight of hand to wow some poor idiot out of their change, the type that could render a person nearly indestructible. And could also be tied with the hallucinations of demons and living dolls.

You found that the Nazis had en entire SS division assigned tot he research and development of this newly re-discovered art. And they had used everything at their disposal, not even stopping at using prisoners as both test subjects and human sacrifices. And in your lust to damage the nazis as badly as possible, you tried to handle one of the artifacts that was kept in storage.

And for that you died in flames, only to be returned to your body with all of your wounds healed and the weapon in your hands.

And in the few seconds since you had been effectively reborn, you felt better, stronger, faster. Your blood pumped cleanly as your weapon seemed to pulse warmly in your hands. Reminding you of it's purpose, to cleave your foes in twain.

A calm, cursory glance at your arms told you that your return had not just booned you with a bitchin sword. But also a pair of silver vambraces, the top of the right one being adorned with a gemstone trapped beneath a thick overlay. Giving the image of a stylised star, artfully broken to give off a stylised take on a firearm's rifling. The overlay protecting the blue gemstone beneath it without compromising the look of the artwork. Additionally, you could feel the harness mounting a scabbard to your back, the entire assembly feeling rather light without having a blade held in it.

Your quick visual inspection complete, you cast a glance over at Kyouko, who seemed to be examining the gemstone affixed to the necklace that she wore. She noticed your look and looked up to lock eyes with you. You both gazed into each other's eyes, before smiling as you both realised that you were thinking the same thing.

You quickly bolted for the door, Kyouko giving you a few seconds to take the lead as you charged the metal door, it's deadbolt locked in place on the other side of the door.

Not that it mattered, as with a single diagonal chop, your blade cut through the door as if it was made of paper, before you slammed into the broken halves and smashed the entire thing open, your head snapping to the right as you looked over at where your comrades were cowering.

You couldn't help but smile as they looked up at you in awe, a move mirrored by the SS soldiers just outside of the vault.

You simply grinned hungrily as your new capabilities began to return to you like lost memories. You would have fun testing yourself on that poor SS squad...

>Charge them, give them no time to run.
>Throw up a barrier in the vault doorway and retrieve your Monitor. You have time to kill.

That means a barrier between our comrades and the SS, right? We need to prioritize their safety right now.

In spite of the knowledge that you could easily charge the enemy and cut them into ribbons before they even had a chance to get a hit on you, you knew that it would be child's play for them to toss a grenade at your comrades and kill them all. As such, you chose a more peaceful solution, even if it was only temporary.

You carefully focused your mind as the SS squad began to snap out of their stupor and raise their weapons. And as a brilliant blue flame erupted in front of your left eye, a large magical barrier was forced into existence in the vault's doorway. The circular ward glowing blue as it appeared, and blocked the spray of automatic fire from the SS squad. You watched for a couple of seconds as the bullets hit the shield and shattered as if they had just smacked into armour plating.

"E-Eugen? What... What the hell!" Logan yelled out as he took the brief respite to try and yank a piece of shrapnel from his face. Only for Kyouko to quickly make her way over to him and place her hand on his shoulder.

"Shut it and keep still, we're getting used to this shit too you know." You chided him as she closed her eyed, a few seconds later, Logan's wounds began to glow with a red light, before rapidly healing. A process that would have once taken months was reduced down to seconds as the shrapnel inside the wounds was expelled and the skin reformed, leaving only a few thin scars on his face. As the glow went out, Logan pressed his hand up against his face. And his eyes went wide when it came away without even a speck of blood on it.

"I.. wha..." Logan tried to speak, but his surprise prevented him from speaking properly as Kyouko did the same manuver on Guzman, placing her hand against his leg-wound and healing it in seconds.

While this was going on, you made your way over to Walker's body and put your fingers up against his neck, searching for a pulse. When you found nothing, you quickly plundered his remaining weaponry, quickly grabbing your old Colt Monitor and the few remaining magazines that you had. You also grabbed his sole remaining frag grenade.

As you stood up and gazed past the barrier, you noticed that the SS unit was quickly being re-enforced. You guessed that they were getting ready for an assault.

>Shrink the barrier a bit and hose them down with the monitor, that ought to get them to fuck off.
>Drop the barrier and charge them with Kyouko. They shouldn't have brought guns to a knife fight.
>Fuck it, frag them.

I'm just saying, shield + Grenades sounds like a pretty awesome combo in general. Pretty much we should be able to gib anyone without bullshit magical powers.

And for those that do have them, we have the sword.

I also say let's keep wearing our helmet & body armour if we can get it, for dickass snipers and possible anti-magic bullets.

"Hey Kyouko... These guys are regrouping." You called out to Kyouko as you slung your rifle over your back and propped your Zweihänder against the wall as you began to pull the sleeves of your jacket out from underneath the vambraces that you now wore.

"Sure!" Kyouko replied enthusiastically, you looked back in time to see he stand up, spear at the ready.

"Grab some grenades first. We should soften them up before we get stuck in..." You recommended as you took Walker's frag grenade in your left hand and pulled out the pin, making sure that the safety handle remained in place so that the fuse wasn't activated until after you threw it. Kyouko gave you a funny look, but quickly grasped what you were implying. She quickly grabbed a stick grenade from Guzaman and joined you on the opposite side of the door-frame.

"I'm going to lower the shield. Once it's down we'll toss in our grenades and I'll put the shield back up. Once the grenades go off I'll lower the shield and we'll charge them." You explained as you picked up your sword with your right hand. Kyouko nodded at you in confirmation and unscrewed the cap on the bottom of her grenade, letting the primer-cord fall free.

"All right, throw on my mark." You stated, before beginning your countdown. "Three... Two... One... MARK!"

As soon as you said mark, the shield dissipated for a few seconds, just long enough for you and Kyouko to throw your grenades at the SS soldiers. As soon as the grenades passed through the doorway, you snapped your barrier back up. You had intended for this to stop both the force of the explosions, but also any snap-shots from the enemy squad. Thankfully however, the latter did not occur as the SS ran for the safety of the corner to escape from the grenades.

As the grenades went off, the force, and even the sound of the explosions was muted by the barrier that you had set up. The only sound coming past the barrier being a pair of muted thuds as the grenades went off. You watched as the explosions killed a pair of SS soldiers who didn't make it around the corner in time. Throwing their bodies into the wall as the shrapnel from your grenade cut deep into them. The bodies landed in a pair of mangled heaps, lifeless.

Unfortunately however, the armoured juggernauts managed to weather the blast, only coming off slightly worse for wear as you dropped the barrier and charged.

As you charged, you held your sword in both hands. You held the blade off to your side as you charged one of the juggernauts. As you reached it, you swung at the juggernaut with a diagonal slash, the blade moving from your side far quicker than a weapon of such size should be moved. The attack was for naught as your prey dived back at the last second, choosing a grievous wound, cleaved chest plate and halved machine gun over certain death. You glanced over in time to see Kyouko try and slash her spear over the chest plate of the other juggernaut, only for it to carve a large gash in the surface of the armour and little else.

"KILL THE INFANTRY! I'LL TAKE THE JUGGERNAUTS!" You yelled out to Kyouko as you surged forward with your next strike, yet again, the armoured soldier dived to the side, laying himself flat to dodge your beheading strike, but laying himself low as a result.

As you raised your sword over your head for a beheading strike, you heard the other juggernaut roar and try to charge at you, causing you to dodge out of the way to avoid being slammed against the wall. But as you dodged back, you brought your blade down to try and slash at the second juggernaut. You managed to hit him, but your striking angle was wrong and your blade skipped across the armour rather than penetrating it as the juggernaut ran past you, only to comically crash into the wall.

As the first juggernaut got up, the second one pulled himself free from the wall. You raised your sword into a ready position as the armoured giants shared a look, a pair of muffled clicks emanating from them as they conversed over internal radios.

>Go on the offensive, take the initiative before they take it from you!

Rather than wait for the juggernauts to charge you, you took the initiative and charged them. Your specific target being the most injured juggernaut. You quickly barrelled towards him with your blade at the ready.

Rather than try and dodge the attack, the most damaged juggernaut dropped into a low tackle and tried to counter charge you. Forcing you to bring your sword down into a brutal stab. Your blade jamming into the juggernaut's collar and cutting cleanly into the upper section of the juggernaut's chest, and going straight through the juggernaut's spine. The force of the impact arresting the momentum of your charge.

The second juggernaut took this time to charge you with it's fist raised. You quickly ducked down to evade the strike that would have caused you some serous damage. You quickly dived back, pulling your blade out of the corpse of the juggernaut as you moved out of the way of the strike. As you dived back, you pulled your Luger with one hand and fired your pistol into the juggernaut. The bullets cutting into your target's knees, but doing little else but stun the juggernaut for a few seconds.

A few seconds was more than you needed however.

You quickly returned your pistol to your harness and grabbed your blade with both hands. You then charged forwards and hacked at the juggernaut with your blade. Your blade hacking through the juggernaut's arm as if it was only a large log of wood. You quickly arrested the downwards momentum of your blade, before then stabbing forwards, stabbing into the crater in the armour that Kyouko had caused with her failed strike. You blade punching through the armoured chest plate and the enemy's spine. The blow ultimately immobilising the beast from the torso down.

However, before the juggernaut died, it grabbed your arm and held you in place as it swung it's other, armour plated fist into your side. The fist hit you like a freight train, and you both felt and heard the snapping of your ribs. You barely stopped yourself from yelling out in pain, but rather you swore at the juggernaut in your native tongue.

"Fuck off you tin-soldier!"

With that, you yanked your Zweihänder out of the juggernaut, took a step back and raised it in preparation of the killing blow. Your beheading strike meeting little opposition as it cut through the juggernaut's neck. The force of the strike sending the head flying.

As the head rolled to a stop, Kyouko returned from around the corner, blood covering her prisoner jumpsuit.

"All clear over here!" She stated with a cheery smile, clearly enjoying her revenge.

"Good, did anyone manage to escape?" You asked as you went over to still kneeling corpse of the juggernaut that had wounded you and cut the straps on it's chest plate with your sword. The plate fell away, leaving the juggernaut's chest exposed, and the gemstone inlaid just below the sternum.

The cyan-blue gemstone swirling with deep grey swirls, reminiscent of storm clouds. The swirls almost entirely clouded the gemstone, leaving only a few patches exposed. You stared at it for a couple of seconds as you stabbed your sword into the floor and retrieved your pistol from where you had hastily stuffed it. You ejected the magazine with one hand and caught it with the other, before returning the spent magazine to one of the pouches on your harness. You quickly retrieved a full magazine and loaded it into the gun, and with a simple rack of the slide, you chambered a bullet.

"Not all of them. One of them managed to escape after I took a round to the leg." Kyouko reported, causing you to look over at her legs. And sure enough, you could see that there was a neat hole blown through her left calf, showing skin underneath. She noticed your glance and huffed. "Don't worry, I beat the guy responsible to death with his own arm before healing the wound up."

You continued to stare for a second longer, before nodding and gesturing to your noticeably dented side. "You mind hitting me up with one of those heals?"

She nodded and made her way over to you and placed her hand on the wound. Your side began to glow with the same red light as before as the broken bones began to shift back into place, the pain of the wound dissipating as she worked. As Kyouko healed you, she noticed the gemstone affixed to the juggernaut.

"Hey, you want to grab that? We could use it as a bargaining chip if we need to." She recommended as she took her hand off your side, her work complete.

You looked down at the gemstone, staring down at the swirling clouds of deep grey inside the gemstone. And the longer you stared, you found yourself feeling more uneasy about taking it with you. A scowl growing on your face.

"I think that I've had enough of dealing with Nazi magical bullshit for one day..." You replied, before raising your pistol at the gemstone and firing. Your pistol bucking slightly as the recoil kicked your arm slightly. The gemstone shattered as the bullet impacted it. The armoured corpse falling backwards from the impact. However, in the space left by the gemstone, the dark grey clouds remaining in place, before dissipating into the air like smoke.

You stopped and stared for a few seconds, before walking over towards the other armoured corpse. It took you a couple of times to roll the corpse, but you eventually managed it, and you pulled the armoured plate off off the corpse. Underneath it, you found the spherical gemstone underneath completely enveloped by the dark swirls in the first gem. Just like before, you raised your pistol to shoot it, only for you to pause as it began to change.

Suddenly, the gem turned completely obsidian black, the rolling clouds stopping and darkening into a single matte black colour. A pair of inch long, grey metal spikes jutting out of the top and bottom of the stone. This grey metal began to flow along the surface from the spikes, creating a pattern of embroidered thorns. This caused the gemstone to pop out of the inlaid spot on the chest. The gemstone rolled out of the body and rolled out towards you, eventually coming to a stop at your feet.

You stopped for a couple of seconds as you stared down at this new gem, before squatting down and carefully picking it up. You held it tentatively with your right hand as you starred at it for a few seconds, before putting the thing into one of your empty pouches and making your way towards the vault where your comrades were assembled.

"So, would either of you mind telling us what happened to you?" Guzman asked, his voice strained as he searched for answers.

"We don't have time for explanations. The Nazis have wiped out the rest of the task force and are making their ways here. We need to get out of here." Gilmore spoke up as he lead Strasse out of the radio room. You noticed that Strasse was staring at you in disbeleif, a note of surprise playing across her face.

"There's still that hanger... even if there's not an aircraft, we could hopefully make our way out that way..." Kyouko stated enthusiastically.

"That sounds like a plan, it sure beats holding out here." Gilmore replied enthusiastically, before then looking at you. "Unless you have anything else to do."

"Anyone want some magical bullshit from the artefact room before we blow it up?" You asked as you nodded towards the room.

"I think we're good, considering the insides of that room looks like the insides of an industrial furnace." Logan spoke up, before tossing you the demolitions charge. "You might want to grab one or two of them for RnD though."

"Maybe... though one or two fancy weapons won't be useful for RnD without information to back it all up." You replied as you made your way towards the blasted room.

"Already on it, I've got a some choice papers according to Strasse... if we get it back to command we can figure out ways to beat these nazi fucks at their own game." Gilmore reported as he gestured to a pack that Strasse was carrying on her back.

As you thought about it, you realised that Gilmore was right. If you did actually make your way back to the allies, then the egg-heads would want a research subject. And the only two people in your current state was you and Kyouko funnily enough. Even if the only way to make more people like you was to force them to interact with these objects, then there would at least be other people to act as test subjects.

As such, it would be better for you in the long run to grab some more of the artefacts. Even if the only people safe to touch the weapons were you and Kyouko.

As such, you made your way into the room. Your boots kicking up ash as you walked further in. You made your way up to the closest scorched container. Curiously, you wiped your hand over one of the containers, wiping off the ash. Inside, you spied one of the magical weapons, specifically the revolver. You carefully made your rounds, finding all of the weapons intact. If you had to guess, all of the weapons were intact, though you had no idea how usable they were, especially considering your new state.

"Hey, Eugen. You need any help in there?" Kyouko asked jovially, as if she was not concerned in the slightest at the impending assault from the nazi reinforcements.

>You decided to start out with the newest looking weapon. A revolver. You weren't the best at identifying weapons, but you could tell that it was certainly old. It sat inside a fetching, white, snake-skin holster. Sat along next from it was a musket of ivory and silver. A quick glance down the barrel showed you that the weapon was rifled nicely. The weapon's percussion-locked action was locked closed.

>Further down the line was a deep black bow. A number of barbs along it's limbs giving it an unclean and dangerous look. However with a lack of arrows, the weapon was useless. Sat just past it was not a weapon at all, but rather a small, circular shield. Intricate patterns along it's face showing off the craft of the armourer who made it. A pair of indentations for gemstones sat on the face of the shield.

>Just past the shield was a gauntlet of crimson and black plates. Said plates forming a number of large sections, including a large vambrace that reached up to the wearer's elbow. Aside from that, there was another indentation for a gemstone on the back of the hand section of the gauntlet. And just past this sat by far the largest weapon, and it was one that you recognised.

>In a break from the blades, a large, spiked club sat between the broken blade and the next batch of weaponry. This bat was made out of a very dark wood with inlaid arrowheads and barbed wire wrapped around it. Giving the weapon a terrifying look. Just along from it was the final sword, a fat-bladed rapier. It's silver and black frame possessing a silver circle that was attached to the sword's cross guard.

This should be everything, sans zweihander and glaive.

Yeah, you can divide them up so that everyone remaining has at least one artefact, but that increases the likelihood that at least one person transforms. You could have only 1 or 2 people carrying artefacts, which encumbers them more, but also reduces the chances of more people transforming into something like you.

And yes, Kyouko healed everyone that was injured.
>>
>>961619
Just out of curiosity, you are wording it like transforming is bad. Are there any possible negative outcomes from transforming?
>>
>>961637
In the current scenario? Yeah, there are a few:
>It takes time, how long it takes is unknown in character right now, but you can ask. Dependent on how long it takes you may have to fight against a large nazi assault force being forced to attack you. Said being force being lead by a pair of nazis that are willing to sacrifice as much as needed to get their daughter back, though you might be able to work something out.
>It's it's a randomised chance of if they are transformed or not.
>They might not chose to take the transformation, and this is VERY bad. It can lead to very bad results.
>They might not WANT to be transformed, this is also very bad.
>>
>>961680
Okay. Hmm. Have Strass carry them? and tell her if anything happens to roll with it?
>>

Woops meant to add that we take the revolver and vambraces.
>>
Ok then, now that we have that sorted, I'm going to call the thread here. We'll restart the thread tomorrow.

I still think it's a really bad idea, but if we're locked, we're locked I guess.
>>
>>961680
Can't we just put them into a bag so there is no skin contact? Its likely the people who moved them down here had to handle them and put them into their display cases, so odds are held them at some point, and they can manage to not get transformed.

So... gloves on?

I'd say take:
Gauntlet
Revolver and musket
Bow

Hand off a bunch of normal guns and ammo to our team mates and use up the rest of the ammo for the colt monitor so we can dump it.

The 5 people with you are:

However, only you and Kyouko should be able to carry the magical weapons because you already underwent the transformation. The others COULD carry the weapons, but they run the risk of being transformed.

Hmmm. well. Have Kyouko carry most of them, we can take the revolver, vambraces and shield.

So just to clarify, you want to carry the revolver, gauntlet and shield while Kyouko carries the other weaponry? Or do you want to give some artefacts to Strasse or another squadmate?

I'm good with dividing up the weapons among ourselves and Kyouko like that.

"Yes, if you could grab a bag and come in here please. I need someone to help me caddy the weapons out." You replied as you smashed the nearest container, this one containing the the gauntlet. You calmly snatched up the red gauntlet and examined it closer. With some dismay, you noted that the gauntlet was left-handed only, but none the less, you quickly fastened the red gauntlet over your left hand and moved onto smashing the next container in line. You noticed oddly that the gauntlet seemed rather warm, as if someone had only just took it off. You passed this over simply as residual heat from the inferno.

"Sure, what do you want me to carry?" Kyouko asked as she entered the room, a pack in her hand as you smashed open the container for the shield.

"Everything that isn't the revolver and the musket. Your spear has great reach and is more of a defensive weapon than my sword." You explained as you tossed the shield gently towards Kyouko, who caught it out of the air.

"Great, I'm the damn pack-mule for this." She grumbled as she stuffed the shield into the pack. You paid little heed as you broke open the container for the ebony bow, but rather than risking accidentally hurting your comrade by accidentally hitting her with one of the barbs. You instead left the weapon where it lay and made for the container that held the musket.

The container was easy to break open, the glass shattering easily as you punched into the case with your new gauntlet. As the container began to shatter further, you simply picked up the musket in the same motion. The ivory and steel weapon feeling cold as you wrapped your hand around it's handle. Part of you was happy that you didn't chose this weapon. It weighed a tone and was a muzzle-loader, making it difficult to reload. Either way, you let the weapon hang in your hands as you made your way over to the revolver. Just like before, the container shattered easily, but as soon as you touched the weapon, you noticed something odd.

The weapon was warm, even through the plate-metal gauntlet you could feel the warmth from the pistol. You carefully put down the musket and touched the grip gaudy revolver with your free hand. Your hand feeling the exact same warmth as you did through the gauntlet.

You held the pistol for a couple of seconds, before noticing a small weight inside one of your pockets. You reached into the pocket with your gauntlet, and heard rather than felt the sound of metal lightly clanging against metal. You carefully pulled the object out to find that it was a fully loaded speed loader, 6 large calibre rounds gleaming as if polished.

You quickly ejected the cylinder from the revolver, revealing it to be empty. You quickly loaded the revolver and tossed the spent speed loader to the ground as you stuffed the revolver into your harness.

You calmly picked up the musket and looked over at Kyouko, who had managed to stuff a number of the weapons into the pack on her back. You quickly gestured over at the bow, which she noticed with a huff, before making her way over to it and slinging it over the pack, making sure that the barbed frame of the bow was facing away from her.

And with that, you both made your way out of the room, and back into the area where your comrades resided.

"Are we all done here?" Gilmore asked as you made your way over to Logan's discarded Thompson. You quickly salvaged the sling from the weapon and secured it to the musket, before slinging the single-shot weapon.

"Yeah, we're done here." You replied as you began to adjust your equipment, picking out the weapons that you wanted to use.

>Start off with the Monitor, once you run out of ammo with it you can simply discard it.
>Keep the Zweihänder out for now. You've been doing well with it thus far.

With a slight reluctance, you kept the Zweihänder secured inside the scabbard on your back. Instead electing to arm up with the monitor. The weapon resting comfortably in your grip, part of your reassured that you had the range to reach out and touch the enemy.

Another part of you however, hated the fact that you couldn't cut a motherfucker with the it.

"Good. Eugen, take point. You can use those barriers that you have to give us cover. Logan goes second, then Guzman, Strasse, me and finally Kyouko at the back." Gilmore ordered as you began to make your way out of the door frame. Your weapon held up to your shoulder as you searched for targets.

As the unit began to make it's way into the corridor where Kyouko had butchered the SS squad. The severed limbs and spilled guts flooding the floor with blood as you made your way through. You heard the sound of one of your squad metes dry-heaving as the sight and stench or the butchery got to them.

"Jesus Christ Eugen... is this what you did?" Logan asked as you reached the end of the corridor, making your way into less bloodied grounds.

"No... I killed those armoured soldiers. Kyouko did this." You replied calmly as you continued forwards, before adding. "It doesn't matter though, we can discuss the ins and outs of what happened to us and the morality of what we have done when we are away from this place."

The rest of the unit was silent for a few seconds, the only sound being the wet footfalls of your unit's blood covered boots as you made your way through the corridors. A few seconds later however, Guzman voiced what everybody aside from you and Kyouko was feeling at that moment in time.

"Fucking hell, I seriously hope that we won't come up against anything like you two..."

You remained silent at that, deciding that it would simply be easier to let it lie. And your decision proved to be the correct one, as when you approached the T-junction where the remains of the second armoured soldier lay, you heard the sound of rapid footfalls coming from the corridor deeper into the facility. As soon as you reached the T-junction, you didn't even bother to look as you poked your weapon out from around the corner and fired it on full auto. The weapon's once mighty recoil feeling much weaker then before. As your magazine ran dry, you threw up a barrier at the corner as you calmly made your way to the opposite side of the intersection, freeing up your space to Logan as you reloaded.

You took this time to look at what was facing you down the hallway. Down the hallway sat a squad of SS soldiers, you had managed to spray down a squad as they tried to run down the hallway, killing four and wounding another three. You gestured for your squad to quickly join you on the other side of the intersection.

"Anybody got a grenade?" You asked as the rest of the squad joined you, the plan to simply frag the SS off your tail for a bit seemingly being the best course of action.

"No, we used them all!" Logan replied as you dropped the barrier, both you and Logan spraying fire down the hallway to keep the SS squad down. "All we have is that demo charge."

You looked down at the demolitions pack on your side, it's yield of plastic explosives feeling like a great boon right now.

>Fuck them all, toss the demolitions charge at the SS troops. Hopefully it will collapse the roof, closing up the corridor.

You mulled over your options as your monitor ran through it's final magazine. As soon as it clicked empty, you rolled back into cover and threw up a barrier, blocking any incoming enemy fire.

"We'll keep it for now. For now we'll just head over to the hanger." You decided as you slung your spent weapon over your shoulder and drew the revolver with one hand and the Luger with the other.

"Kyouko, do you know how to get to the hanger?" Gilmore asked as you gestured for Logan to join you.

"Sure, we just have to head through that mess of supply crates. It should be on the other side of the room." Kyouko replied, before making her way out towards the mess of crates. While she wasn't as fast as you had seen before, she made up for it by summoning a barrier of her own to protect herself from incoming fire as she ferried Gilmore and Strasse away from the fighting.

You quickly dropped your barrier from the doorway and made to ferry Logan and Guzman across, firing snap-shots as you went. Unlike Kyouko's, you managed to pull up two barriers. One over the doorway and one to protect you and your comrades from fire. You quickly managed to regroup with the rest of the unit in the mess of crates.

"Everyone here?" Gilmore asked sarcastically, it was pretty hard to loose track of people when there was only six of you. ""Eugen, take point with that sword of yours. Cut anything that's in out way."

You nodded as you returned your revolver to your belt and pulled your giant sword, the warmth of the blade's handle telling you that it wanted to be held. Wanted to be used.

>Try to find your way along the winding paths in the maze of crates. It may be easier for you to get lost, but it's quicker than cutting shortcuts through wherever you need to.

"On it, follow me. I'll lead us to the other side." You replied as you took the lead, you plan being simple. You would follow the winding paths in the maze of crates, but as soon as you reached a dead-end, you would break through it as quickly and brutally as possible.

You quickly started off at a slow run, allowing your comrades to keep up with you as you barrelled through the maze of crates. You quickly came upon your first dead-end, but rather than slowing down and finding a new way, you sped up. You quickly reached a blazing pace as you summoned a rolling barrier in front of, your plan to use it as a battering ram to smash the crates out of the way.

As you reached around five meters away form the stacked wall of crates, you forced the barrier forward. It impacted the crates, and smashed them to splinters. However, the move had also winded you, as some kind of back-lash force smashed into you and staggered your charge, slowing you down while you tried to stop your head spinning. The nauseating effect tiring you.

However, if you thought that you was the only person feeling the effects of the ramming, then you were wrong. As an unfortunate SS squad on the other side of the wall of crates suddenly found themselves launched off their feet. The tried to scramble to their feet, only for your comrades to gun them down.

You quickly picked up the pace, surging back to the front of the formation as you lead them to the hanger. Unfortunately for the SS, your squad was able to reach the large cargo doors that lead towards the hanger bay. You quickly ran over towards what looked like a maintenance door by the side of the cargo door and cut through the lock with your sword, the door swinging open as you held the door for your comrades, who quickly ran inside.

Inside the hanger, there was only one aircraft, and it was small. It's nose glassed over in the place of a more traditional canopy, reminding you of the standard He-111 bombers. It also possessed no propellers, eschewing them for a pair of jet engines in bulging pods under it's backwards swept wings. A pair of large pods, booster engines from the looks of them, were hung outboard of the engines. It didn't possess a bomb bay, but rather a small set of stairs that folded out of the side of the aircraft and lead up into the fuselage. Worryingly, it possessed no real armament.

"Up there!" Gilmore called you attention as he pointed to what looked like a command room. "We can open up the hanger from there!"

"That still doesn't solve how we don't actually have a pilot..." Guzman replied dejectedly as you slammed the door shut and began piling things in front of it.

"Now we do, got a pilot right here!" Logan yelled, you looked over in time as the dragged a man in a flight suit out from behind one of the crates, gun at the ready.

"That's even better! Everybody snap-to, we'll be out of here in no time!" Gilmore replied enthusiastically, and for a second, you saw everyone's faces brighten up, as if they had just spotted the light at the end of the tunnel.

Well, the nazi pilot didn't look so thrilled, but you didn't really care.

You simply nodded as the unit snapped into action. You turned your attention to the door that you had just moved through. You quickly made your way over to the makeshift barricade and set up the demolitions charge. You quickly reached into one of the pockets and pulled out a grenade fuse and jammed it into one of the bars of plastic explosives that was contained inside the demolitions charge. You carefully set up a basic tripwire charge so that if the barricade was disturbed then the plastic explosives would go off. You then took the remaining explosives in the pack and some assorted debris to cover it as you set it up in the middle of the large cargo doors.

As you finished setting up the detonator for the remaining explosives, you looked over your shoulder at your unit. You watched as Kyouko kept her spear pointed at the captured pilot while he brought the jet online. She called out translated instructions to Logan who bolted around the hanger to help prepare the aircraft for immediate launch. Gilmore and Strasse stood off to the side, the pair of them keeping up the act of holding Strasse hostage act in front of a security camera.

"Hey, boss!" Guzman called out from the command room. "Can you send Eugen up here? All of these controls are in German."

"Eugen, drop off the artefacts inside the aircraft and head up there." Gilmore ordered you as you finished hiding the demolitions charge. You quickly moved to comply. As you moved you noticed that the room that you and your unit now occupied was less of a hanger, and more of an underground runway. The long and straight room extending off for a few hundred meters. You noted thankfully that there didn't seem to be any other entrance ways further down the room.

As you reached the aircraft and looked inside of it, you realised that the aft of the plane was extremely cramped, with only a single pull-down seat in the back and a small area for cargo. Said cargo area now being filled up with the stolen artefacts and papers. You wasted no time in storing your equipment, the musket and your spent rifle being lashed in place. Leaving you with your sword, your Luger, the gauntlet, the revolver. As you made your way forwards towards the cockpit, you realised with muted horror that there was only three seats in the cockpit, One sat forwards of the other two, and was currently occupied by the Nazi pilot.

"Hey, Eugen. Are you alright?" Kyouko asked as she looked over at you. Her voice laced with concern.

"Call me paranoid, but I'm not too happy with the idea of trusting our lives to something so fragile." You replied as your rapped your hand agaisnt the side of the aircraft.

"Does it matter? We can project those barriers to block incoming fire." Kyouko replied as she looked down at your pistol.

"Do you want to borrow it?" You replied as you flipped your pistol around in your hand to offer it to her.

"Yeah, I't easier to hold someone prisoner with a pistol over a spear." She replied calmly as she took the pistol off your hands. She calmly stashed her spear in one of the seats at the back of the cockpit, before sitting down in the seat and securing herself in.

"You know, you might have to share that seat with someone..." You stated calmly as you passed her the remaining magazines, you had no need for them.

"Probably not... if we need someone to stay behind and keep Strasse hostage while everybody else gets out then only one person would have to share their seat." Kyouko replied calmly as she finished strapping herself in and pressed the muzzel of your pistol against the back of the pilot's head.

You simply nodded at this, before turning on your heel and making your way to the ladder up to the command room. You quickly climbed up, finding yourself facing Guzman. The pair of you shared a nod, before he moved past you and climbed down the ladder behind you.

You quickly made your way towards the console at the window overlooking the hanger. As you looked over the console, searching for the button to open the hanger doors, a voice boomed out through the room.

"Greetings, Allied Schweinehunds..." A cold, stern voice announced through the speakers in the hanger. "...I, am General Wilhelm Strasse. Head of the SS Special Projects Division."

While this announcement was meant to either scare or intimidate you. It simply caused you to search faster as the General continued to speak.

"No, all of us know that all five of you are cut off, with no way to escape from us. The only reason why you aren't already dead, is because you have one of our soldier's prisoner. And because I am a kind and benevolent officer of the German reich, I am willing to negotiate. If you are willing to negotiate, then your soldier at the console in the command room need's only use the intercom on the console. We are waiting on channel three." The General continued on, before the speakers went silent. A quick glance over told you that the intercom was right next to you.

>Talk with General Strasse, try and stall for time while you try and understand the comms.

In spite of the offer of negotiation given to you by the general, you knew that he was probably just stalling for time so that he could move his units into position. Or was stalling so that fighters could be launched from nearby airfields. So rather than give him the time he wanted, you instead began to work faster. Your eyes darting over the console as you searched for a way to open the hanger doors and keep them open.

Hell, if worst came to worst then you might have to find out just how dangerous the musket was.

Thankfully, you were able to find what you were looking for. A small button at the bottom of the panel labelled Emergency Hanger Bay Door Release, a small pamphlet on the side of the console informing you that the mechanism would activate a system of explosive bolts on the door, which would then cause it to roll out of the way. Without a second through, you hit the button.

As soon as you hit the button, the lights in the hanger went red and sirens began to wail as the doors at the other end of the giant room began to slide open. You didn't bother to wait, you sprinted over towards the ladder and began to descend as the loudspeakers in the room crackled into life.

"So be it then, cowards. Panzersoldaten! Clear the room!" The General yelled as you slid down the ladder. You hit the ground in time to see a large, armoured beast break through the makeshift-barrier you had erected. The metallic man was far taller, and more heavily armed than the armoured juggernauts that you had faced before. However, the armour didn't entirely cover the beast's body. The beast's former humanity could be clearly seen by it's exposed, leathery skin. In it's arms, the beast seemed to carry a large weapon made up of what looked like four MG-42s fused together.

You quickly threw up a magical barrier between you and the beast, not to protect you from the beast. But from the explosive trap that it had just triggered. The beast seemed perplexed by the barrier for a second, before your explosives went off. The force of the blast knocking the beast off balance as the shock wave ripped through the beast's leathery skin, and even blowing off a piece of armour. But unfortunately for you, the beast managed to regain it's footing as another beast just like it made it's way through the doorway.

You looked over at the jet to see that everybody was piling in, but it would take time for them to all get in.

>Go on the offensive, hold the Nazis back as your team gets away, even if you get left behind.

As the beasts began to file into the room, You quickly pulled the revolver and your sword as you threw up a pair of barriers, providing more cover for your comrades. The first panzersoldaten, the one that had taken the first explosion, gave a bestial roar before charging at you.

You waited for it to get closer, firing a pair of shots at the second panzersoldaten, your shots punching into the armoured giants face-plate. The barrage of shots punching into it's face and knocking it down. As the first panzersoldaten got closer, you shoved the revolver into your harness and grabbed your Zweihänder with both hands. As the panzersoldetan tried to take a swing at you, you ducked and quickly swung your giant sword into the giant's mid-section, your blade getting stuck as it slammed into the giant's guts.

The panzersoldetan tried to take another swing at you as you tried to pull your sword from it for another strike. This strike connected with your side and sent you flying towards the jet. You rolled for a few feet before quickly standing up. The enemy stared up as you as the sound of the jet's engines starting up.

You quickly surged forwards, your blade coming forwards into a stab, one that slammed into the panzersoldetan's face and speared through his brain. As you brought your blade out of the armoured giant's face, your attention was brought back to the door.

"HALT TRAITOR!"

You looked up to see the door occupied by a woman in what looked like an evening dress with the jacket of a high-ranking SS officer over her top. Her red eyes boring into you with intense hate. Carried in her right hand was a court sword, with a thin, rapier-like blade. She glared at you with her fiery-red eyes, giving you a hateful glare to rival any others. As the pair of you shared an intense glare for a few seconds. It was the only thing you could do.

The look she gave you was unnaturally terrifying. It paralysed you, you found yourself unable to move, to breath, to hide. As if your body just decided not to fight back as it would only make your death more painful. You quickly steeled yourself as the raven-haired woman sized you up.

She gave you an almost playful smile as she raised her sword, as if to challenge you.

"EUGEN!" Logan yelled out from the jet, his voice carrying over the sound of the engines. "GET OVER HERE!"

>Fight the woman, if she wants a fight then you'll give it to her.
>Run for the jet, kneecap the woman as you leave.

Look over our shoulder as we run and wink at her and say "Later, Fräulein~"

You wanted to fight this woman. Plain and simple, some devious part of you wanted to hurt her, to bleed her of everything before finally snuffing her out. It wanted to prove to all that this nazi bitch was no match for you. It wanted to use her as a statement to the rest of the SS as to their fate at your hands.

However, that part vocal part of you was once again drowned out by the more sensible part of your brain. The part of you that knew that you would die if you stayed here. You knew that if you returned back from this suicide mission then the allies would have an edge against the nazis. And it was an edge that might even win the war.

That very same part of your brain also told you that your revolver still had one bullet that was yet un-fired.

You quickly dived backwards as you relocated both of your barriers to in front of the door, blocking reinforcements from assisting her. At the same time, you brought your right hand off of your Zweihänder and ripped the revolver out of it's place on your harness.

As you dived, you brought your sword up to block the incoming stab from the Colonel. Your blade striking hers and deflecting it with a shower of sparks. But as her blade went wide, you aimed the revolver and fired. The booming report of the pistol thundering over the jet engines for a second, before being replaced by a pained scream from the colonel as her left leg cane away at the knee in a shower of blood. As she hit the ground, she tried to take another swipe at you with her blade, only for you to jump over the blade and drive yours into her arm, cutting through tendons and forcing her to drop the weapon. Which you kicked away with your armoured boot.

With her weapon robbed from her, and her ability to move compromised, she looked up at you with a pained, but still angry glare. But in return, you simply smiled down at her at her and winked. "Later, Fräulein~"

And with that, you turned on your heel and sprinted for the Jet. The revolver entering it's position on your harness and you Zweihänder in the sheath on your back. Logan waited for you at the back cargo section of the aircraft, you climbed into the cramped section, finding it shared between you, Logan and Strasse. As you pulled the airstairs up, the aircraft began to move forwards. It picked up speed as you quickly strapped yourself into the lone folding seat, Logan choosing to strap himself into the cargo netting.

With a sudden roar, the aircraft seemed to lurch as it gained even more speed. You realised a second later that the pods mounted outboard of the engines were rocket boosters. As the implications of why they were there began to set in, you looked out of the small window built into the side of the fuselage in time to see the stone of the hanger-runway give way to the blinding light of the morning sun. You felt your stomach lurch as the aircraft rolled onto it's side and pitched up, executing a brutally sharp turn, and giving you a good view of the ground.

You watched as the pin-points of infantry and the larger dots of vehicles and panzerhunds passed underneath you as your jet continued to rocket away, very quickly however, the roaring subsided and was replaced by the high-pitched whine of jet engines as the RATO pods fell away.

Very quickly however, the aircraft levelled out, giving you a good view of the scorched and cratered mountainside. From what you could see as the jet passed over the mouth of the facility, your allies who had been defending the entrance had put up a brave and successful resistance, but they were none-the-less wiped out.

You sighed as you looked over at the assorted artifacts and papers, all held in place by cargo straps. You hoped that the sacrifice was worth it.

As you sighed to yourself, the tension leaving your body. You looked over in time to see Strasse un-clip herself from the cargo netting and make her way over to you. She smiled down at you, before undoing your safety harness. Before you could voice your protest at this, she sat down on your lap, facing towards you. She managed to deftly re-secure the harness around herself and tighten it so that she was pressing against you as she wrapped you in her arms. Logan chuckled at this while you stroked Strasse's hair and looked out of the window. The beautiful alps silhouetted against the morning sun as your aircraft climbed to cruising altitude.

For what felt like the first time in a while, maybe even since before the war even started. You smiled sincerely, a small chuckle escaping your lips as Strasse's breathing became slower and deeper. Small, cute little snores telling you and your friend both that your former prisoner had gone to sleep.

And with that, Arc 1 of Where Wolves Fear To Tread is over! And yes, that took much longer than I had hoped. But that's in part due to the fact that people liked it enough to actually read it and be a part of it. Now I must ask, would you want this to continue? Because my current plan is to finish off the current Pilot Quest arc before returning for Arc 2 of WWFTT.

Anyways, it's been fun. We won't be running this weekend due to Christmas, though right after we will be re-starting Pilot Quest. If you have any questions related to either WWFTT, Pilot Quest, or anything else, then just ask them. I'll answer them as soon as possible.

And before I go, have a merry Christmas in 2 days time.

Yeah, take a small break from this so you can plan more for the future of this quest. Just don't remove the werewolves.
>>
>>967867
Phew.

I actually rather like the idea of alternating between quests at the conclusion of an arc. Keeps things from looking too much the same over the course of the year.

Thanks for running and Merry Christmas, Thunderhead. Don't get subverted by dirty commie scum in the meantime.

Thanks OP and Merry Christmas!

This arc was satisfying as hell, but I'm curious if you'd tell us what'd have happened if we went the other routes.
