In every fantasy story, good always triumphs over evil. The heroes destroy the villains and get the girl. That's the way it's been for who knows how long.

This magical world filled with heroes, princesses, and adventurers needs to be reminded that sometimes evil can win, no matter what they do. You are a new adversary that threatens this world, though you've just started out.

So, that calls into question of what you are.

The Ayes have it!
-------
You forget how long you've been flying for now. Every time you think you've found a cave, it always turns out that the cave was too small to hold a good sized hoard, had little to no room to hold a princess, or was just way too cramped. Maybe mother was right, maybe you should have stayed with the family and plundered the country side. It was good eating, the locals paid their ransoms on time, and the king's daughters made for wonderful slaves.

But, what's this? Is that a good cave down below you? Good thing you flew over the...

>Desert, filled with sultans with caravans filled with gold and luscious princesses to capture.
>Mountains, its gold and jewel mines are close by too and the princesses are innocent.

The desert, if only its golden sands were just that. The cave you see beneath you is part of a fairly large oasis, so you'll never have to worry much about water. You land and you see that the cave seems to be very big on the inside as well and you see a fairly nice area where future princesses can be kept. This is a good place. You chuckle to yourself and lay down for a bit. The flight here was long and you need to rest up a bit.

After a few hours of rest, you awaken to hear a someone yelling outside.

>Mortals? In my lair? Not today!
>This is beneath me, probably a bandit is murdering someone outside.

You had just settled in and now you have these foolish mortals yelling outside your domain? Bah, this is why you used to eat them. It shut up the rest of them very fast and they usually never came back.

"Your father promised us a great deal of money, milady! And now I find that you and your family are broke? What good is a sultan without any money, eh?"

You sneakily look out of your cave to witness a group of heavily armed men throwing around a woman. Their tongues licking her skin as they laughed. The woman was dressed in very shiny and skimpy clothing, almost see through. Might as well not have been wearing anything at all.

"Please, my father still has money! He'll pay you whatever you want!"

The man in the white armor laughed and twirled his mustache.

"No, I think you're father can pay us with your voluptuous body!"

The woman screamed and cried as the men began to force her down.

Hang on, sultans and basically kings... She's his daughter... She must be a princess!

>Just going out there and killing them all wouldn't be fun. I'll turn into my human form and walk out (M/F)
>I'll just walk out and take her. What're they going to do, stab me with those little toothpicks?
>I'm a bit hungry... I don't NEED a princess right now. I'll just eat them all.

As one of the men takes off his pants, you walk out and grab the girl. It's very silent and the girl simply looks up at you. Her eyes are wide and you can feel her trembling within your hands. As you turn around you can hear one of the men manage to squeak out the word dragon. You enter the cave and put her in the special place you have in your cave and look out towards the men. The man in the white armor is trying to find the right words to say about what he had just seen. Instead, you can hear gasps and groans of fear coming from his mouth.

Not one man is moving.

>"Dragon, the word you are looking to say is dragon." go back into the cave.

You puff up you chest and feel fire beginning to swell in your chest. You can almost smell the fire swelling inside you. You growl out the words that will haunt them as they enter whatever afterlife they believe in.

"Dragon, I believe the word you are looking for is dragon."

Before a single word could be spoken in response, your fire burst forth. The roar of your fire drowning out any sort of scream that managed to exit their now charred throats. You laugh a little bit as one human that was hiding behind a tree tried to run out into the desert before you smashed him into the sand with your tail. It's good to feel the thrill of a small battle, even if there was no real danger to you in this instance.

Wait. Did you breath fire? Or did you breath something else?

>Yes, I breath fire.
>No, I breath a different element. (What element is your breath weapon.)

The spasm of the humans made for a very amusing spectacle. But, for now, you need to deal with your new princess.

You look back to her inside your cave. She is still in shock after seeing you breath evaporate a group of men.

"M... My-My thanks dragon... I... I'm in your debt... However... I must ask that you let me leave... So that I may report your deeds to my father... He will...He will give you much treasure."

Oh, she's still lying to you.

>If her family has no gold, then what good is she? Eat her.
>Well, she's more of a small trophy to me. I'll cast a spell on her or manipulate her to stay with me.
>Hm, she knows what treasures this land holds. I'll keep her head clear until she tells me everything I know and then we'll see.

She trails off and looks down at her necklace. Her eyes show that she is remembering something very close to her. Maybe a close relative died.

"Our family is without a male heir and I am the remaining child of the ruling sultan. Our gold is being used to fund the war effort against the coalition of rebels. My name is Ferah Al'Menans, the last living heir to the Golden City of Sintra and my father would still give you much gold if you were to return me safe and sound."

She shakes her head and tries to back away even more.

"If I marry, then my family will no longer be the one who posses the power in the kingdoms. I will not marry you, dragon!"

She yells out the dragon part like it was an insult. Mother was right, humans are stupid. however, she is scared and young in terms of mortals. Maybe she could be persuaded to marry you or you could simply cloud her mind with your magic. She does seem sad at the fact that there is a war going on.

"I could end this rebellion."

She looks up at you and then turns around.

"Why would a dragon care about our affairs?"

Using your silver tongue, you begin to list off the reasons as to why you care, making yourself to be a good dragon. The half truths and empty words finally begin to get to her.

"And you'd promise to be kind?"

You chuckle as you see your words have done their work.

"I am a dragon, I never go back on my word. All that is required of you is your hand in marriage."

She is silent for a few moments before slowly nodding her head.

"I think I could convince father to allow you to marry me... Fine, I will accept these terms."

"I will show you where to go."

You motion for her to climb on your back and walk out of your cave. She recoils at the site of the crushed man in the dunes and whimpers as she smells the slight smell of burnt flesh. You stretch out your wings and begin to flap as you rise up into the air.
-------
After constant reassurances that she will not fall, you finally come to a place where she says the city is. You look to see it and it almost brings a tear to your eye. It is a large city, possibly the biggest you have ever seen and in the middle stands a magnificent golden temple. It is glorious and you can't wait until it is yours.

"That is where I live. I know a place where you can land."

Now, this place has probably has lots of defenses and might start shooting as soon as they see a young dragon flying close to the walls.

"I wish to speak to your leader. I have his daughter and I wish to aid him in crushing his rebellion."

The guards look back and forth at each other as what seems to be the captain sends a man back to the palace on horse back.

The guards immediately upon hearing Ferah's name bows to her. This Ferah holds herself as a proud woman, worthy of her title. However, you can still see her trembling simply from your presence.

"Your form... It's scaring the people. Can you... transform? I know dragons can do that, but I understand if you don't change."

"Fine." You say as you utter out a word in draconic. Your form begins to catch on firm as you begin to shrink. After a while, you appear in your human form. Though you have changed, your form is still alien to this people. Never have they seen white skin or golden eyes such as yours. Never have they seen such elegant robes outside of the highest courts. To them, you are still as frightful and alien as before. But, at least they don't have to worry about you eating them.

"Oh." Ferah gasps as you look back at her. You can see her blushing as she walks ahead of you. As she should, you're the most perfect being here.
----
You reach the palace gates and you can barely hold yourself as you touch the solid gold casing on the walls. This is beautiful, this palace must be yours.

"Dragon, father says that we must meet him in the dining hall. It seems that a feast is being held in your name."

Suddenly, a woman appears from the gates. Her armor is sleek and shows off her figure. She walks over to Ferah and embraces her.

"My dear sister... I am so glad you are alive. I thought I'd never see you again."

Ferah smiles as she closes her eyes.

"Linia, I missed you."

"Umbaroth? Such a strange name for man such as yourself."

Linia walks over to you and begins to look you over.

"Are you expecting a reward of some kind?"

You look at her and chuckle. If they're taller than someone, mortals think they have the upper hand. How wrong she is. Before Linia can say anything else, another man beckons towards Ferah and Linia.

"You are to bring the exalted guest into the palace unharmed. Please, my lord, come this way. The Sultan is awaiting your arrival."
---
You sit at the far end of the table as dancers and servants await your every need. The sultan is a large man, his cheeks only being hidden by his large beard. You never understood the reason why mortals grew such things.

"So, if you rid these rebels from our lands, you will marry my daughter?"

The sultan seems surprised by this.

"Then may this war end swiftly. I will give you whatever you require to destroy these rebels. And, in return for you assistance, you will marry my daughter Ferah."

Ferah nods and smiles at you. Linia, on the other hand scoffs and leaves the room. The sultan winces as she leaves.

"Forgive my other daughter. She is young and I think despises asking for help from an outsider, especially since our kingdoms have had bad experiences with the crusaders from the north."

The sultan stands and claps his hands.

"But, for now, we must discuss battleplans."

You hear armored footsteps come from behind you and you see armored men with ornate helmets join you at the table. The servants clear the table and place a large map on top.

"Lord Umbaroth, these are my most trusted generals and advisors. Gentlemen, I present Lord Umbaroth, the dragon who saved my darling Ferah."

"Kereno, their most recent siege."

A tanned man responds without skipping a beat. The other generals quietly voice their issues with you ignoring them and not even acknowledging them.

"Nekzar, good to see that you still forget your court manners." A slender man says with a sneer.

"This Umbaroth fellow cares not about pleasantries and I do not either. We are in a war, so every minute we spend discussing foolish things like manners is every minute Kreza and Morzeer spend finding more ways to embarrass us in battle. Or has the comfort of your castle softened your mind, as well as your body, Hezta?"

Before the other man can respond, the sultan raises his hand.

"Please, continue your report, Nekzar."

"My lord, as you can see, the rebels have been able to push along these smaller towns because they know we will not abandon our larger cities. Your 'generals' simply want to defend their keeps rather than fight a war. However, the rebels are not expecting anything larger than our war tigers. So, if Umbaroth can spearhead an assault deep into their lines, we should be able to break them easily."

"We have over 1,000 Sanshira warriors that are camped outside the walls, however our numbers are growing slowly as more flock to defend their homes from the rebels. However, the rebels are being reinforced by 200 Gregon Crusaders as well as Lord Saltreg's personal guard."

As you listen you see one peculiar spot of high ground. It seems to overlook much of the city and could prove key to capturing the city. However, before you can speak, one of the generals violently shakes his head as you begin to point at that spot.

"No, it is forbidden to place troops in that area. The Desert Coven would curse our bloodlines if we ever set foot on that ground."

"It will be done then."

Some of the generals look at each other with angry faces. Nekzar, however, bows his head to the Sultan and leaves. Ferah whispers in her father's ear and he nods.

"If that is all, I'd like to spend time with my daughter's future husband. Leave us, if you would be so kind."

The generals and advisors bow towards the sultan and leave the room, not one glancing in your direction.

Not a good sign. But, why should you care?

"Now, please tell me, Lord Umbaroth, what land to you hail from?"

>I come from the deserts in the deep south. Desolate, the temples at least have many tribals that paid tribute to my mother's brood.
>I come from the Gregon Forests. I've dealt with all sorts of threats to my mother's brood and brought home much gold

"Ah, so you have experience with dealing with the crusaders! This is wonderful news!"

The Sultan stands up and smiles as he extends his arms.

"With you, my future son-in-law, our kingdom will be safe. My family's future will be safe. My daughters will be safe."

Ferah smiles as she stands up as well.

"Will you be leaving now or will you be staying the night."

He begins to laugh and walk out of the room. Ferah smiles at you and walks out as well.

"Thank you, Umbaroth, you've turned my expectations of your people on its head. I wish all dragons were just like you."

You smile as she walks out. However, you weren't thinking of her kind words. Instead, you were thinking of the golden palace and how easily it would be for you to simply eradicate these mortals and take this place for yourself.

You thin to yourself that the time is not right yet. At least you get to pretend that all this gold is your now. It will be, sooner or later, so might as well get used to it.

During the night, you hear a loud thump as some muffled yelling is followed by the gurgling of blood outside your door. Goody, assassins coming to kill you. You look over at the door as it slowly opens. A masked woman sneaks in and slowly approaches your bed. Two more sneak in and unsheath a pair of glowing dagger.

>Not messing around, I see. Time to transform and kill them all. The mortals must know the consequences of angering me.

Gripping at your wound, you say the magic words in draconic as you visualize your targets. In an instant, two of the assassins pause for a second as they begin to imagine themselves in a scenario in their past life. One looks at her hands and tries to wipe them off, panicking as she fell to her knees. The other one stood at attention and saluted, trembling before letting out a sob. The other assassin however, gripped her glowing daggers tightly to her and tried to fight off the illusions.

"The Goddess... Protects me... I will... Not... Fail..." The assassin struggles to say. Her voice is familiar however, you've heard it once before. You walk over to the assassin and tear off her mask to see good old Linia struggling to keep her wits about her.

"My father... Is a fool to believe... Your lies... He forgets our past... How dragons ruined this land for our people..." Linia tries to take a swipe at you, but recoils. He eyes begin to lose focus as she tries desperately to hold onto her mind.

You watch as she trembles on the bed, gripping her shoulders and trying to hold back tears.

"Ferah, come back to me... No, I mustn't give in... I am Linia of the Holy Order of Kail, I will not fall to this illusion..."

Linia keeps trying to say the same thing over and over again until she finally slipped.

"You... Are a danger... Everyone must know that dragons... Cannot be trusted... The Days of Fire will return... If we do..."

Linia begins to cry out for Fareh and another woman, Senra.

"Not you too, Senra! Not both my sisters!"

>And you'd kill a dragon to show everyone that they cannot be trusted? You'd think I'd turn into my true form and rampage?

"Y... Yes... Everyone would know... That dragons are vicious animals... Cannot trust... Ferah, come play with sister... I love daddy..."

Lania's eyes are becoming unfocused. She's starting to fall deeper into the illusion. At this point she and her compatriots will do anything asked of them. They could prove as valuable allies, sneaking around and helping you create a power base within the city. On the other hand, they did try to kill you. And, if this was a suicide mission, might as well make them do just that. The window in your room has a long enough fall that it would kill them.

Lania is beginning to pray to her goddess while the other two have left the room, so to speak. You don't even know if their minds are even still there anymore. Unfortunately, the feeble minded are usually the first to succumb to this sort of spell. Lania, on the other hand, has held out for quite a long while. While she is a member of this Holy Order, she is also the daughter of the Sultan and you're not sure how'd he react to her attempt to assassinate you or her untimely demise.

>Let her go, the other two are mine for insurance.
>Let her go and her friends as well. Never forget my mercy.

You hear gasps of shock as the women look around to see you pushing their leader off your bed and crawling into bed.

"Leave me, I'll decide whether or not to tell your father of this in the morning."

Lania simply stands there and slowly walks out.

"Oh, and take the poor man's corpse. Don't want to make up an excuse for him."

Lania simply watched you as she slowly motioned for her two allies to dispose of the body.

"And Lania?"

Lania stops at the door and looks at you, her face showing calm but her eyes showing fear.

"Don't forget what I did today. I could have easily caused you to become a lowly harlot in a matter of second if I wanted to. Remember my mercy."

"I... I will..."

And with that, Lania leaves your room.

Damn, this is a good bed.

In the morning, you awaken to a servant girl bringing you a pitcher of water and a silk cloth.

"The Sultan awaits you in his royal stables. He wishes to see you off before you leave."

"I want you... Please accept me."

You push the woman away and climb into the water. You can feel your anger rising as she keeps coming closer to you. Before you can look back to yell at her, your heartbeat quickens. Behind the servant girl stands a mature woman, pale in complexion, her eyes a glowing gold. Her robes as blue as your scales and her hair as white as silver. She smirks as she kneels beside your bath and turns your head towards the front. You can hear the servant girl walk away, repeat the previous phrase until she leaves the room. The woman washes your back with such care that it reminds you of home. She sighs a nostalgic sigh.

"I remember when we would travel from town to town. I would always wash your back before we left the inns. You'd always complain about the bath being too cold or the inn keeper suspecting that we were dragons. You were such a clever boy, such a strong boy as well. I remember when we were surrounded on all sides by that blasted crusaders and you would just laugh and laugh as you tore their warmachines apart before diving head first into the ranks. I always worried that they'd be the death of you."

Mother grew silent and put her arms around you.

"If only your father could see you now. You are the pride of our brood. You do our family proud, my son."

You grab your mother's hand and hold onto it. It's silent for a few moments before you hear Mother giggle. She lays her head upon your back and you can feel her smile.

"I won't ask you to return, my son. This path is yours to travel with or without your brood. Just know that you will face death should you fight in Kereno. You know of the crusaders and their affinity to slay our kind. I only ask that you allow us to travel with you, at least until you cement your power here. Whatever your decision, know that your mark in history will be a great one. A mark that will cause all mortals to fear the name of dragons."

"It will be like old times, Umbaroth. Your brothers and sisters are watching from afar. They will come to your aid whenever you require. But, I will stay by your side until your reign is absolute."

Mother stands up and dones her hood.

"However, should the mortals find that you are not the only dragon within their territory, they will begin to plot against us. I will keep close, but out of sight until needed."

She walks to the doorway, stopping only to look back on you. You can feel her smile as she vanishes into the hallway. You can't help but look up into the blue sky and smile. Your plans will soon come to fruition and all you need to do is take some silly city.
