Cheering and laughing and clapping in the distance.

That's the wedding starting.

You, Karas and Tia crawl out of the broom closet you've been hiding, through the window, and glance around the garden nervously.

Not one guard in sight. You guess everyone's at the wedding, taking place on the other side of the palace.

Your dad knows you're coming. He'll focus on keeping Eskarin safe. The rest of your circle (Zareen, Starfall, Talon, Aexel and Valeriana) should already be there or nearby, in disguise.

And, in all this mess, Mikahil and Lynne are still AWOL. They were supposed to head over to House Iblan and make sure that that particular noble trading house wasn't going to get in the way of your little coup d'etat, but...

You bite your lower lip nervously. You can't help but be worried. They're late. Too late. Did something go wrong?

Maybe they just arrived and joined the others at the wedding?

It's clearly starting. People are cheering, string music is playing. It's taking place in the garden, as expected. You'd imagine there'd be a lot of guests, and a lot of guards to boot.

You exchange a few silent, nervous glances with Tia and Karas. It's now or never.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now, though not without difficulty.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
And now, on the day of your wedding, the Unconquered Sun Himself appeared to you and crowned you Princess of Creation, asking you to be an example for others in these dark times.
After securing the alliance of the nearby realm of Neck (or Okeanos, as they prefer to be called), you received news from your remote homeland of Gem: Rankar, the man who usurped your throne, holds your father and sister prisoner, and is about to marry her to his own son in an attempt to solidify and legitimize his power over the city.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Sup EF?

Actually, it doesn't have anything to do with Exalted Quest, but let me engage in a bit of shameless self-promotion.

My recent hiatus was (mostly) because I've been working with my good friend and amazing artist ReiDuran and started a small RPG module publishing gig. We wrote and published on DriveThruRPG a D&D module called "Arsenal of the Warrior Princess", and we're working on more!

Back to your (ir)regularly scheduled quest.

>>

In short: Maka and most of her circle got to Gem to take it back from Rankar, the dude who usurped the throne from her dad and caused her to self-exile to Tianna in the first place (the original reason a southern princess was in a remote western island given in thread... like, 4? don't feel like going back to check)

Rankar is about to marry his own son to Eskarin, Maka and Karas' little sister, in order to give more legitimacy to his claim on the throne of Gem. He's been very generous with money and has bought a lot of soldiers.

Under Rankar, the city seems to be prospering, despite all of his rather extravagant spending. It's not clear if he's using money from the treasury and slowly bankrupting the government, or if he has some kind of secret sponsor.

Maka and friends managed to secure non-interference from most of Gem's noble houses, meaning "if you want to try and kick Rankar out, we won't stand in your way provided that all of our privileges stay untouched and you don't drag us into it". One of the houses, Arbani, even supplied you with weapons, because its chief is an old friend of your dad's.

The only outlier is house Iblan, arguably the richest of them all. You didn't have time to contact them. Mikahil and Lynne went to check, but they've been gone for a while.

Also: something strange is going on in Gem's mines, with miners disappearing and reports of "armored ghosts with three glowing eyes" being sighted.

No one has any idea of what happened to your mother during Rankar's coup. She just vanished.

A peerless swordsman called Rekka, the Flying Blade is working for Rankar. No one knows why, exactly.

The daughter of the head of the Sahlak family, Arras Sahlak, supposedly Exalted. What's sure is that not only she resisted Maka's seduction attempts, but she seduced her back.
In Maka's defense, her rolls were particularly poor in that session.

Rankar seems paranoid and suspicious of something, and it's not you. Something's going ON, and it's terrifying him.

Finally: you best complete this coup d'etat without alerting the realm that there's any Anathemaing going on here. Remember, Gem is not self-sufficient and depends on shipments of food from the coast for survival, and the largest supplier is the Lap, a very loyal Realm satrapy. You do NOT want them to cut trade with Gem.

You, Tia and Karas slowly make your way through your mansion's garden, crossing it efficiently and silently, avoiding the few bored guard patrols around. They're mostly minding the outer wall, and pay little attention to the interior of the garden.

Following the noise, you reach the site of the wedding, and hide yourselves in the bushes for a better look.

Well, Rankar certainly didn't go cheap on this. A roof of multicolored, crisscrossing strips of silk cloth hangs overhead, woven between the windows of the palace and the outer wall. Under then, in the green of the garden, by an artificial pond, a grand gathering of all of the richest and most influential people of Gem is partaking of the best wines and finest buffet foods that money can buy, served by a host of maids and butlers in exquisite, impeccable outfits. In the background, a string orchestra is playing a cheerful, upbeat rendition of Through The Roses And The Lilies.

You see Rankar himself, sitting right next to your father on one of the many cushions scattered on the grass, chatting amiably with another man sitting next to him, a fire-haired young man wearing robes of office in perfect Realm fashion... maybe the Realm satrap? You don't know him personally, but he has the markings of a dragon-blooded, and Realm fashion isn't really common in Gem.

Your dad looks silent, but serene, but you know he's just trying to control himself.

In the crowd, along the sidelines, you can recognize Valeriana, infiltrated. You guess the others must be there somewhere, too.

The noise dies down and the music gets quieter as two figures emerge from behind one of your blind spots and walk up on a small wooden dais, hand in hand. One man and one woman, facing the festive crowd. You can only see their backs, but both are wearing white, with a blue cloak thrown on. The color of Venus, and of marriage.

Rankar stands up, and walks to the two of them, then turns about and addresses the guests. The music keeps playing, but quieter, in the background.

"My dear, beloved friends." He addresses them. "I thank you all for being here. As the Despot of Gem, it is my duty, and by honor, to officially sanction the union between my only son, and beautiful Eskarin." He smiles, gesturing at the couple, who bow at the crowd in response. "Under the witness of Venus, Incarna of love and serenity, pray tell me, my dear children. Do you..."

It's time. You stand up and make your way through the bushes.

The feeling of a needle-sharp blade point touching your back freezes you in place.

That's Rekka's voice. Neither you, Karas, nor Tia had detected his approach. Your brother and your husband roll away and draw weapons instantly.

In the background, the wedding goes on!

"...I remember you." The swordsman notes, eyeing you, then Tia, who looks like she's about to take his head off with one swipe. His gaze shifts to Karas. "But not you."

Karas grimaces. "I'd love to be able to meet you under different circumstances, believe me." His words carry the same sense of urgency that you feel pounding in your head.

"I will not let you ruin what should be this couple's happiest day." He replies, rather nonplussed. "Stand down and leave. Let's not make a scene here."

"I'm here to stop the wedding, Rekka." You make for turning around, but a light sword-jab to the shoulder informs you that he's not going to let you go that easily.

"Put the sword down, Rekka." Karas raises his own. "You can't take all three of us at the same time."

Tia doesn't add anything. She just snarls.

"This wedding doesn't involve you. It's Rankar and lady Eskarine." You can see him smiling with the corner of your eye. "Or are you going to tell me that somehow, this wedding DOES concern you?"

"It does." You proclaim.

"The only way that that could possibly be true is if you were the previous despot's vanished heirs, but we both know that that's not true. Isn't it, Amata?" He replies, calling you by the fake name you had given him.

Karas is barely minding Rekka. He keeps glancing at the wedding, where the oaths are being exchanged right now.

"...I lied." You admit. "I AM Maka. What about it?" You turn around to face him, and he lets you do so this time. "What next? You call Rankar and sell me out?"

He grins. "Unlike you, I wouldn't be so rude as to interrupt a wedding."

"She's my sister and I don't approve of this wedding." You point out, stomping your feet with urgency. "It's my right to!"

"I understand." He nods, lowering his sword, but still on guard. "And yet, I have a job to do."

"Do your worst." You reply, leaping backwards into the bush.

Several things happen all at once.

First, just a moment before you fall through the hedge, Rekka's blade slashes at you, cutting through leaves and branches and missing your throat by millimeters. There was no in-between motion, no movement you could even see. He didn't raise his sword, get into stance, put strength into it and cause it to cross the space between you and him in a slashing motion. The movement was too fast for you to register.

Then, from his left, Tia crashes against him.

You see her common sword slashed in six segments by Rekka's flashing blade, which then ends its lightning motion by impaling her through the chest, all the way to the hilt.

A spraying geyser of blood explodes from Tia's back.
This does not slow her one bit. The last you see of the two of them, they slam into each other before rolling out of sight.

Then, you roll into the covered garden where all the guests are. Your entrance, crashing through the bushes with leaves and branches stuck in your hair, is quite dramatic, although not in a way you ever planned.

"...I do!" Is the last thing you hear before the entire garden falls deathly silent, with hundreds of eyes turning to you.

You struggle back to your feet. A second later, Karas also breaks through the hedge, sword in hand.

You try and get your confidence back, place your balled-up fists on your hips, stand tall, and issue your proclamation: "We object!"

"...Sis?" Is the one word you hear before the garden explodes into chaos. "GUARDS!" You hear Rankar screaming as ten soldiers break rank and get between the two of you and the rest of the guests. In the background, you see more of them making their way through the crowd, to reinforce them. You quietly hope that, in the confusion, your infiltrators hidden among the guests are doing... something.

Fortunately, you have the initiative. The guards are surprised and their ranks aren't quite close enough.

They are also underestimating you.

You charge into the mercenary group, ducking under the first spear swing, rolling, leaping over a second, and weaving between two of them trying to trip you from opposite sides. Before any others can gang up on you, you rush through and dash into the guests, who scream in panic and begin scattering clumsily before you.

The orchestra stops messily, the notes crashing against one another like a thirty-wagon pileup at a busy intersection.

The moment he sees you make it through, your dad stands up, leaving Rankar's side, and runs for Eskarin, like you agreed.

He was unguarded. no one was expecting this. In a flash, Askar reaches the wooden podium and grabs your sister. The groom gets in the way. There's a scuffle, but your attention is drawn elsewhere.

Rankar has drawn his own weapon, a wide-bladed sword, and points it in your direction, barking orders.

Some of the guests also draw weapons. Most run out of the way, letting their bodyguards do the dirty work. In a sudden flash of flame, the Realm satrap stands up, clothes billowing, and brings his hand to the handle of a slashing blade, eyeing you aggressively.

"Who in Malfeas' name are YOU?" Rankar sputters, his eyes widening as you approach him. "...Maka? Karas?" A flash of realization crosses his face. "What is the MEANING of this?"

You draw your sword with a flourish and bring it down, while leveling your flamepiece at his chest.

"I'm here to take the throne back for my father, you usurper."

He scoffs at you. "As if your own lineage hadn't usurped it from the previous Despot."

"Then, I'm USURPING it back."

He glances around, evidently wondering why the guards he summoned aren't at his side yet, and is greeted by the sight of Radiant Starfall dropkicking one on the face through the buffet table.

"...Who?" He narrows his eyes in her direction, as she sommersaults and lands perfectly atop the wrecked table.

"Just a mysterious magical girl of love and justice." She winks back at him.

As the non-combatants pull back, the garden turns into a giant brawl. You see Talon swinging one guard around, holding him by the feet, keeping the others at bay. As he makes way for the others, Zareen and Aexel run up to you and Rankar, kicking and punching the guards out of the way. Even Valeriana, lagging behind in the background, is holding off a mercenary with a chokehold from behind his back.

Karas reaches your side as well, and draws his own sword. "We can do this the easy way or the hard way, Rankar. Give up now and no one will have to get hurt too badly."

His back against the metaphorical wall, held at swordpoint and gunpoint, Rankar shakes with impotent rage. "...I..." His grip on the sword's handle loosens.

"Are you truly here to reinstate the previous ruler?"

The Realm Satrap approaches, Essence fire blazing around him, keeping the chaos at bay. His sharp eyes are burning, and his hand is on his blade's pommel.

"Y-your benevolence, save me!" Rankar falls to his knees. "I've always been a loyal subject to the Realm! It is your duty!"

"My DUTY is to the Realm's Scarlet Empress and none others." The fire-aspect's stern reply freezes him in place. "And she doesn't wish for her subjects in the satrapies to strife against each other. Stand down."

His hand twitches, He's ready to draw on you.

Wanted to do Argue, but pointing out hypocrisy to a Dynast is an exercise in futility.

Could even throw in something like, "The great houses of Gem remember my father's good rule. That they are not here to oppose me means that they support his peaceful return to the throne."

Also, NOW might be a good time to commit TGP as we pause a moment to take our most regal pose.

You lower the flamepiece just enough to signal that you're not yet willing to start a war with the Realm by pointing a weapon against one of its official representatives.

"The realm didn't help Askar when Rankar usurped the throne from him." You calmly point out. "Why now does it help Rankar as Askar seeks to regains the throne?"

"We would've intervened were it not for the speed with which Rankar committed the deed. Once the chaos cleared, he was firmly in control, and swore to uphold the satrapy. We saw no reason to object."

"So." You shrug. "It's not a matter of preserving the peace for you. It's enough if our coup d'etat is faster than you can react to?"

A smirk crosses the Satrap's lips. "Perhaps."

The fighting is quieting down already. A few guards have been knocked unconscious, but most have stopped fighting when realizing that Rankar was overtaken.

Like every good mercenary, they want to be paid first and foremost. Your father, sister, and the groom have disappeared, maybe ran or carried off to some other corner of the garden or inside the palace, and, with both them and Rankar out of the picture, the guards are clearly starting to question why they should keep fighting...

The Satrap eyes the sidelines, where the nobles from the houses have gathered, surrounded by bodyguards. With a word, they could have ordered them to join Rankar's forces, not just prolonging the fight, but also signaling their support and allegiance to the ruling Despot.

However, none of them has said anything. Their forces lay uncommitted.

"Well, was that fast enough for you?" You smile.

[HEART-COMPELLING METHOD] (personal)

[social + zenith = 5 3 9 9 7 5 1 6 5 4 9 2 9 10 6 = 7+1=8 successes]

The Satrap relaxes his grip on his sword ever so slightly. "Karen. Cathak Karen."

"Maka. This is Karas. A pleasure."

Karas bows clumsily. "We're forgetting someone."

Rankar has disappeared from under your eyes. He seems to have skittered off during your confrontation, probably dived in the bushes.

"Besides, where is the prospective Despot, lord Askar?"

"Probably sorting things out between bride and groom." You wonder, not sure yourself. Only now the chaos is quieting down. Some of the guests are reaching for the crashed buffet table and helping themselves.

An elderly dignitary wearing distinguished robes of office calmly walks past Talon and his pike of knocked-out guards, picks up a still-sort-of-intact slice of cake from a shattered porcelain plate resting on the grass, and takes a bite out of it.

Just another day in Gem.

The Despot taps his foot. A couple of attendants creep up to him, carrying papers and seals of office. One of them, recognizing some unspoken cue, holds up a hourglass to him.

"You have a hour to get everything sorted out, prince Karas, princess Maka." He eyes the hourglass. "Past which, if the government of Gem is not in order, it will be MADE orderly. I'm sure you understand."

He turns and leaves, followed by his attendants

Because you've done such a good job getting your government in order after it's last ruler disappeared.
Just to be clear, don't actually say that.

You follow his steps out of the palace's main gate and down a road. It doesn't take a genius to know that he's heading to his own palace. To ready his own troops, just in case.

Realm heavy infantry with dragon-blooded officers.

Valeriana, her robes a bit messed up, walks up to you. She's panting and clearly still excited. A small bruised lump on her forehead. Still, she almost looks like she enjoyed herself. "It's messy. The nobles want to know what's happening, and the mercenaries aren't fighting but aren't disarming, and I'm pretty sure that if we told them to we'd have a far bloodier riot in out hands." She explains.

You know all too well that this is the crucial moment. The vacuum in power is evident, and nature abhors vacuum. If no one steps in to fill it fast enough and with a strong enough claim, some brilliant noble or mercenary captain will figure out he's got a shot at the throne. You can already imagine that runners and messengers are being sent all over the city.

Crisis management:
>Order the gates closed and put the palace on lockdown.
>Promise the mercenaries an extravagant sum of money if they take your side.
>Order everyone to drop their weapons and stand back.
>Ask the nobles to return to their estates.
>Do nothing and let the situation develop naturally.

>Go look for Tia and Rekka

You take a deep breath.

As much as you'd like to immediately run off and chase for Rankar, you can't just leave this boiling pot unwatched.

"Lock down the gate." You whisper to Valeriana, who quietly nods and walks off in that direction.

Then, you wave your arms and jump up and down a bit to draw the attention of the guests. The background noise of concerned chatter dies down a bit. "My dear and esteemed guests, your attention please!"

So many hostile, wary glares in your direction.

You take a deep bow. "I apologize for the disturbance. Please, everyone, we still have plenty of refreshments. Enjoy yourselves a bit longer while we get everything squared away."

"What is going ON?!" Asks someone in the crowd.
"Where is Rankar?"
"What happened to the wedding?"
"Who do you think you are?!"

"Please, all questions will be answered shortly. We are fixing the situation as we speak. There is no cause for concern."

You spot Old Man Arbani in the crowd as well, doing his best to calm the crowd. And... there's Arras Sahlak, too. The girl casts an alluring gaze in your direction, followed by a knowing now.

Is she amused by what you are doing? In any case, the signal is clear: "tread carefully".

"Is this a kidnapping?" Someone asks, brutally direct. "I want to go home. This party sucks."

You tug at the blouse of a nearby maid passing by in panic, pull her up to yourself, and whisper in her ear: "Bring out all the food. Wine, anything you have in store, right now. Do anything it takes to keep the people here calm, well-fed, drunk, and busy."

"Y-yes, ma'am." She nods, tears in her eyes, before scuttling off.

Karas, who had left your side for a moment to check the situation, walks up to you. "...I'm hearing one hell of a swordfight on the other side of the garden. Tia's going at it. I'm a bit afraid she could be losing it."

You bite your lower lip. You made it quite clear to Tia that no one must know you're Exalted. So, no obvious charms, no shapeshifting, or anything. But Tia is prone to... losing herself in the heat of the moment, and you know that well.

"I know." You mumble. "I'll trust her."

"I trust her too, but I'd still go and check."

"You do that." You don't think Tia went off the rails, but, in case she did, Karas is probably the only one in Gem who can fight her to a standstill.

Karas nods quietly and walks off. You snap your fighters and draw Radiant Starfall's attention. She bounces in your direction. "Yes?"

"Aren't you in high spirits." You note. "Rankar seems to have run off somewhere."

"I saw him scamper back into the palace earlier." She informs you. "Want me to grab him?"

"Please." You nod. "I don't want him to cause some dumb trouble."

And off she goes. You can tell she clearly just eyed the third-floor window, and was about to jump up there, then caught herself at the last minute. Instead, she walks around the corner and enters from the door, like a normal person.

The guests are still noisy, but the servants are bringing out the vintage wine and pretty much anything they had in store, so the situation is under control for now. Several of them, however, are noisily asking to be let go, or to see Rankar or even Askar.

And you have no idea where your dad and your sister went off to.

>Go and search them yourself.
>Send someone to look for them. (Who?)
>Dad can handle this. We need to stay focused here.

...Zareen is technically an assassin who never gave you the indication of knowing anything about how to handle high society.

"Alright, Talon." You slap his back. "You're up."

"...I'm up what?"

"Babysit this situation until i come back." You appoint him, much to his dismay, before running off.

"...Hey? Are you kid- WAIT-"

Dashing through the bushes, you leave the party area. Now, where could your dad, sis and her to-be groom run off to?

You make your way around the house and on the other side of the garden. There are several sprays of blood on the wall along your way.

Well, this is ominous.

As you turn the last corner, you come across an area of the garden that's been completely DESTROYED. Earth dug out, wall dented in multiple points, windows shattered and bars bent, trees broken...

And there's Rekka, crumpled up on the ground at the center of a crater, clutching his snapped-in-half blade in one hand and Tia's severed left arm, lopped off just above above the elbow, in the other.

Tia is a few meters away from him, in tatters, wounded to a point that any mortal would've been killed ten times over, still impaled through the chest by the snapped-off portion of Rekka's sword, one-armed and trailing blood. She's trying to hobble over to where the swordsman is lying, with Karas trying to hold her off.

"Maka!" He welcomes your sudden appearance. "Get your husband to calm down!"

You glance at Rekka. He's still breathing, but he doesn't look like he's going to stand back up anytime soon. Maybe ever again.

"He tried to stab Maka!"

"And Maka could've taken it." Karas replies, in a soothing tone. "Don't-"

With her one hand left, Tia grabs Karas by the collar, lifts him and throws him through the palace wall. He flashes past you screaming and explodes in a cloud of debris.

Great, more propriety damage.

>Let Tia kill Rekka

Tia we're fine thanks for saving us, but he was just doing his job so please leave him alone now. Also stop losing your arm so much.

If he really is exalted then he can probably heal himself with a bit of help from Zareen or Val since our real doctor isn't here, but Val can totally at least fix his sword. I really want someone who gave Tia a hard time on our side after this.
>>
"Alright, Tia." You stand between her and Rekka. "It's over. You won."

"I... I won. I know." She takes deep breathes.

"He was just doing his job."

"He pointed a sword at you."

"I'm fine. See?"

She slowly straightens out. "... I'm..."

You hug her, delicately. No sudden movements. "You did good."

You feel her muscles relaxing. Situation defused.

From the rubble, Karas emerges, a bit dirty and battered. "God damn it Tia."

"Sorry." She whimpers.

"Sorry doesn't fix buildings." He climbs down into the crater, and checks on Rekka. "Or people." He starts to carefully pick him up. He's not in good conditions. "I'll go get Valeriana."

"He'll be fine, won't he?" You ask.

"No idea." He replies, walking in direction of the gate. "He's a mortal."

You stare as Tia walks over to her severed arm and presses it against her stump, waiting for her regeneration to kick in for long enough to start to reattach it. "...Really? And he did this to you?"

"If I could've used all of my Essence and my Daiklave, he wouldn't have cut my arm off." Tia replies, offended.

You'd love to ask more about the details of how the battle went, but you don't have time. You still need to find your dad.

...Should Tia come with you? You might need her, but she was... very nervous about meeting your family.

>>
>>935902
Oh can we call over Val or Zareen to get Rekka stabilized and to take him inside somewhere?
>>
"Alright, Tia, clean yourself off a bit, then let's go."

She shakes around like a wet dog, spattering blood everywhere until she's sort-of-clean. "Where?"

"Looking for dad."

She freezes.

"He's not scary."

"B-but what do I say to him?"

You can't help but smile. "Let me do the talking, and don't worry." You enter the palace (from the Karas-shaped hole in the wall) and start your search.

The palace seems to have suffered just a few changes since you had to flee. The decor seems even richer and more expensive, with decorated silk curtains and crystal chandeliers and precious carpets covering every room.

You move through the main hall, and head upstairs, where you hear some noise. Shouting, banging around. It's coming from Eskain's room.

Definitely keep Tia close. And definitely barge in. :D
>>
You barge in. The door slams open, showing a rich but thoroughly trashed bedroom. Chairs and tables upended, books scattered everywhere, three people having a screaming match. Well, mostly two of them.
The third, a young man whom you've never seen before but, judging by his white dress, was supposed to be the groom-to-be, Rankar VI, is mostly sulking in a corner.

"YOU'RE A JERK!"

"You don't get to call ME a jerk, little princess! I'm the one trying to hold this family together!"

"And how good a job did you do?"

The two of them stop as you enter.

Finally, you see Eskarin. She's wearing a beautiful white and pink wedding dress, now slightly messed up and ruined by all the mess that's been going on. Her eyes are red and bloodshot, but she's holding back tears, and your sudden appearance manages to bring back a smile to her.

"...Maka! It IS you!"

"I missed you, Rin."

You invite her as she leaps into your arms, finally breaking down crying. "Makaaa!"

"What." You... suddenly get the creeping feeling that you're going to get dragged into-

You glance up to Askar. Hsi eyes are also bloodshot, but with rage. He's breathing heavily, and his balled-up fists are clenched with full force.

No, no, please, we don't have time for this.

"Dad is a jerk."

He slams his foot on the ground and lets out a scream. "You're NOT marrying this, this... this lowlife, Eskarin. I'm not going to allow this." He points a trembling figure at the man cowering in the corner. Looking at him better, you can see he's holding his head as if in tremendous pain, twitching. A smashed-up guitar lies in pieces on the floor around him.

"I WANT to marry him."

"You're being USED! You're smarter than this, Rin! FIGURE IT OUT!"

"All I can figure out if that all your talk about being able to marry whoever we want out of love was A BIG FAT LIE!"

"NOT THE SON OF RANKAR! RANKAR! THE MAN WHO TOOK MY THRONE, THREW ME IN A CELL, BROKE OUT FAMILY UP, HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT THEY DID TO MOM!"

"...Leave mom out of this." She lets go of you and turns around to face her father.

"I won't." He stomps his foot again. "I'm the head of this house. If you want to marry someone, he has to meet MY APPROVAL."

You hear Tia "eep" silently and hide behind you.

Eskarin runs off to Rankar Junior's side and ried to help him back up.

"Get away from him." Askar demands, imperiously.

"No."

"The Realm satrap is going back to his palace." You inform them both. "He clearly said that we have one hour to get things sorted and tidy, or his troops will step in. And we've got a bunch of cranky, nearly-rioting nobles down in the garden."

Askar takes a DEEP breath. "Fuck." He mumbles to himself, barely audible. He then lifts a threatening finger up to Eskarin. "Discussion's not over, missie."

He turns and storms off, out of the room and down the stairs.

Eskarin sniffs and tries to put up a smile. "...It's nice to see you again, Maka. ...Sorry you had to see this."

"Seeing you and that you're fine is all I really wanted." You reply, gently putting an arm around her shoulders, putting your forehead to hers.

[JUDGE'S EAR TECHNIQUE]

"Let me check that lump." You ask the groom-to-be, who raises his bruised head to face you.

What stares back at you is... Yeah he looks pretty scared. Also kinda cute, in that "harmless romantic musician prettyboy" way.

"...What?" He asks, a single question that probably has a million answers right now.

You think about it for a second. "...We're putting my dad back on the throne."

"Oh." He lowers his head. "I, um, am I...?"

"Nah, we're good." You help him back up.

"Of course, make Eskarin cry and I'm going to destroy you." You reply with a calm smile.

Rankar VI cringes.

"Let me introduce you to Tia." You present her. Still spattered in blood, covered in bloody scars, scabs and cuts, she stares back at the groom with a blank face.

Rankar VI cringes some more.

"Um." Eskarin mumbles, and lifts a finger to draw Tia's attention. "You have a, er..." She points at her chest.

Tia looks down, at the broken sword blade still sticking out of her. "Oh." She notices, and pushes it all the way through and out of her back with a finger.

A few seconds of silence ensue. "What?" She asks.

Rankar VI grabs your hand and squeezes it. "I swear that I will treasure your sister above everything else in the world."

"You do that."

Eskarin scratches her head. "I... understand the circumstances dad is going through, but Rankar had nothing to do with all that mess. It's unfair to blame him for what his old man did."

He nods. "My father is a hard man, but he's not a monster." He notes. "I'm sorry for what happened to your family, for what that matters."

"We can worry about all this later." You put that off with a wave of the hand.

After reassuring the couple that everything is going to be all right, you point out one simple fact.

"We need to show ourselves back downstairs. Make clear that everything is under control, and that there is no power vacuum in Gem. That everything is fine."

"...Or else what happens?" Rankar VI wonders.

"Or else Gem becomes a free-for-all, the nobles start fighting for the throne, then the Realm comes in and steamrolls everyone else, stamping out Gem's independence and remaking it as a completely subservient satrapy of the Scarlet Throne."

"Good point." They both nod.

As you make your way downstairs, you see- wait.

"MAKA!" Mikahil stops short of climbing up the stairs, bending over, panting, short on breath like he just ran a marathon. He has a few shallow wounds and stains of blood on his clothes.

"...Mika?" You run down to help him. "What in Malfeas' name happened?"

You grab him and help him straighten up, leaning against the stairway's wooden railing. He tries to catch his breath and talk at the same time, and fails.

"Calm down." You try and point out. "Take your time, then tell us what happened." You lift an eyebrow, scanning the main hall downstairs and noting he's alone. "Where's Lynne?"

"We... split... up... to... find.... you..." He pants and wheezes.

"What happened at House Iblan?" You ask.

He breathes in and out deeply and several times, spits, completely drained, then tries to explain. "I've figured out how Rankar managed to have all that money."

That's one thing that you never figured out, actually, Rankar was spending cash like he had unlimited funds, and despite that the economy had grown instead of becoming unstable.

"What's going on, then?"

"He has help. Exalted help." He explains. "After sneaking a peek at Iblan's ledgers, I realized. He's got some sort of... accounting, management supergenius, someone who's woven charms all across Gem's economy..."

You turn to Rankar VI. "Did... did you know this?"

"...Dad has had a new advisor for the last few weeks, and I heard him praising her a lot..." He mumbles, confused.

"What do you know about her?"

"N-not much? I mostly avoided her? She was... Weird? ...Annoying?"

"So what?" You turn back to Mikahil. Did the Iblan house guards catch you?"

He grins. "They weren't normal house guards. They're... some sort of strange army, with weapons I've never seen before. I think they answer to Rankar, or to her advisor."

"Rankar..." You mumble. "...Where is Rankar?"

Rankar VI raises his hand.

"Not you, you dolt." You slap him. "Your dad."

"I have no idea."

"...He's gone to look for help. We need to-"

"...Starfall?!"

From the hole in the wall, lightning sparks and discharges erupt as a tall, striking woman levitates through it, six giant mechanical blades open behind her, radiating thunder and power.

"There they are!" The panicked voice of Rankar V echoes from the other room, and you can see him keeping through the hole in the wall, pointing his finger in your direction. "Destroy them, Integer!"

"I still maintain that the terms of our agreement were otherwise." The woman replies, hovering down until she elegantly touches the ground. She blinks in your direction. "Your son appears to be here as well."

"Well then, not him of course!"

Before you can react, Tia is already between you and the threat. Mikahil is pulling out his throwing knives, but he clearly needs a moment to catch his breath, and Radiant seems to be out cold despite her anima flare.

You quickly glance around. There's no way the people outside haven't heard the crash, but, for now at least, no one is watching. Only the two Rankars and Eskarin are here.

"Please stand down." The... Exalted? That Rankar V called "Integer" asks you, in a cool and collected voice. "I dislike violence."

"I enjoy it immensely." Tia replies as a challenge.

As do I. We can do SO much better for you than Rankar could. You know, Princess of Creation to... weird mecha-Exalt. Especially if your agreement was with the Despot of Gem, which Rankar is currently NOT.

>You should fight without flaring your Anima.
>Tia should fight all-out, even using Charms to her fullest.

So we can make them friends. Depending on how much Clarity she's in, logic will go a long way.

We could do that and 2C of AoDJ without flaring, just to be safe. Though Starfall kind of obviates that a bit.

Hell, we could summon the Crown for 1C. It adds one success to social stuff aside from being, y'know, the CROWN. So we should be able to banish it afterwards and not have any flare. Just sayin'

Considering we're talking to an Alchy for the first time, I am SO glad we have that already committed.

We can survive a fight without charms, even if we can't win, and having one of the heirs to the throne as an Anathema would cause more problems than beating this exalt would solve.
In her condition Tia might not have the luxury of not using charms though.

I'm okay with summoning the crown actually, especially if we can just turn it off afterwards.

No that comes later. When we can take our time, it's first contact after all. We want to leave a good impression.
>>

Or commit TGP and save a commit for the Crown to seal the deal. We have Tia here if things go sideways, though I don't know how badly she's hurt. We could also send Eskarin to go and fetch Karas. Get her out harms' way, to boot.
>>
>>936158
Let's just hope she doesn't have Programmed Catechism Rebuttal installed.
>>
"Wait a second." You step forward.

A lightning bolt arcs through the room and explodes one meter ahead of you, turning the carpet and parquet floor to ashes instantly. The runoff electricity washes over you.

"Don't move." She calmly replies.

"We can reach an agreement." You raise both hands in a nonthreatening gesture.

"Don't listen to her! Fry them!"

"I already have an agreement with Rankar V." She explains. "Negotiating a second agreement is a needless complication. I can just remove you and reinstate Rankar V as Despot."

[TERRIFYING GLORIOUS PRESENCE]
[social + zenith = 1 6 4 9 9 3 10 6 3 10 3 8 7 8 10 = 11+1= 12 successes]

"You're making two incorrect assumptions." You raise two fingers.

Lightning dances all around you, crackling, tearing up the entry hall bit by bit. It's closing up on you. "Prove it."

You glance back. Eskarin and Rankar VI are huddled together understandably terrified. Tia is ready to leap into action at a moment's notice, her muscles twitching.

"The first incorrect assumption is that an agreement with me is not going to be more profitable than an agreement with Rankar."

"The city of Gem is the city of Gem. Whether you or Rankar control it, the city will have the same social and economic characteristics. There is no difference for me to operate with you or with Rankar, And, since Rankar is already a proven factor, I will stick with him."

"That leads me to the second fact." You grin. "I am worth more than you believe me to be."

"Prove it." She challenges you.

Plus Coral, and with allies currently taking over the industrial powerhouse that is Skullstone. So, yeah. Anyway, the explanation follows well with the display, I think.

>>936187
Should be fine? TGP just cost us one personal commit, and the Crown is our last. We'll actually have to intentionally flare our Castemark, I believe. If I remember right, the basic Castemark fades before the next scene.

>>936189
Oh, yeah. If we're laying out cards, we can show that we have MANY to lay out.

My only real concern is what to do with Rankar afterwards. I don't want to kill him, but I don't want him running off to the Realm. Wonder if he'd be satisfied working as vizier under dad?

Well, he did make the coup entirely bloodless, so morally he isn't really a bad guy, and he seems to have the best interests of Gem at heart. Choices are either permanent house arrest (in luxury of course) or dad accepts him as a vizier/senior advisor as you said, but I don't think that'll fly well
>>

Hahaha. Let's keep that one close the vest for now. Don't want pissed off Siddies after us. Though we could mention we're really good at getting gods on our side, if she was wanting to make allies. Sorry for torching those Jadeborn we don't know about yet

There is also a long shot alternative of bringing him into our service in Tianna away from his power base in Gem.

Rankar never really struck me as a really evil guy or anything, just ambitious and power hungry.

We might be able to salvage him and put him to good use.
>>
>>936222
Yeah, I was thinking that, too. We're going to have a lot of places that could use administrating.
>>
>>936217
That's not a bad thought, but I think the Crown (and our twelve successes) might speak for itself. Besides, if we're not putting up AoDJ, we can save that 3B for AST. Just in case.
>>
>>936222
>>936226
Are you really suggesting we reward Rankar for trying, and succeeding, at overthrowing our family?

>>
>>936243
Not if we imbue Eskarin with Essence.
>>
>>936234
You're assuming that we just give him a management position from the outset, I'm not saying to hire him as CFO in Tianna, i'm saying that straight up execution is rather permanent and we might be able to get something good out of the guy.

Imprisonment in Gem won't get him far away from his resources and potential supporters and does nothing to "punish" him.

Of course like I said from the outset it's a long shot.
>>
>>936246
That's hardly full proof
>>
>>936242
Hmm. I see. I can get behind that, then.

>>936234
Okay, I see your point. He is trying to kill us now, after all. First things first, I want to hear his side of things, especially if there's stuff we don't know. Then we can have an actual vote on what to do with him.
>>
>>936246
We should do that to Rekka and make him ours in the process

...

So... solar training time and get on his good side, once he exalts we'll have a powerful new ally?
>>
You call for the power sleeping within you and feel the Lesser Crown of Thunders blaze forth from your forehead and bathe the hall in a golden light.

Her own lightning pulls back and ceases.

"...I recognize that golden circle." She says. "That is one of the marks of the Solar Exalted."

Both Rankars are deathly silent. All Eskarin can say is "...Maka?"

"That I am." You admit. "I will not be a pushover."

Electricity gathers in Integer's wings. "I still have reason to believe I am more powerful than you."

"Maybe I am, but I have many more Exalted allies with me, as you've noticed." You explain.

Mikahil and Radiant Starfall are standing back up, the former flashing his castemark, the latter already burning brightly. Tia lets her own mark and tattoos shine through.

"Is it worth getting through all of us?" You ask.

"Y-y-you made your agreement with ME! INTEGER! YOU ANSWER TO ME!"

Integer glances sideways at Rankar, and her ice-cold stare silences him. "You seem to be under the mistaken assumption that I am working for you. That is untrue. You have been working for me. I merely have been very permissive with my oversight."

In cowering backwards, Rankar slips and loses his grasp of the edge of the hole in the wall. You hear a crash as he falls on the other room.

"Considering the current circumstances, I will at least consider your offer." She turns towards you, and the thunder and lightning stops.

You let the crown vanish. She didn't seem to recognize it, instead focusing her attention on the castemark. And even her knoweldge of it seemed purely academic...

She's clearly not a Dragon-Blooded, nor does she have a castemark on her despite having clearly- ait. She does have light and lightning gathering around her forehead, but rather than being a symbol, it seems to coalesce around a gemstone embedded in her forehead, half-concealed by her hair.

What IS she.

As if detecting your puzzlement, she steps forward. She's about as tall as you, and must be quite a bit more heavy. Each step she takes makes the ground shudder lightly. "My name is Border of Integer and Rational. I am an Orichalcum-caste Alchemical Exalted here in service to the Maker."

You smile pleasantly. "Not a word of what you just said made any sense to me."

"Your world also puzzles me at times."

"Hang on." Mikahil is still catching up. "OUR world? You come from A DIFFERENT WORLD?"

"In a manner of speaking. My world is dying. We are seeking to repair it. We need goods and materials that are not present in our world to do so." She succinctly explains.

This story is so insane that it can't be made up. You pinch your nose, tiredly, trying to keep on top. "So... you're here to get..."

"Iron." She starts listing. "Copper. Tin. Aluminum. Gold. Silver. Platinum. Jade. Orichalcum. Moonsilver-"

"Alright." You interrupt her. "I think I understand. Pretty much everything, right? You know, those things don't grow on trees here, either."

"I don't know what a tree is."

You are baffled for a second. What sort of world doesn't have TREES?

"...I meant that those are not particularly common substances here either."

"They are not, but your world is woefully inefficient. My project involves assisting you in making your world more efficient. Part of the net gain in productivity would remain to you. The rest would be used for repairing the Maker."

"Hang on:" You stop her. "Didn't you need it to repair your world?"

"That is correct."

"Now it's "the Maker"?"

"That is correct. The world is the Maker. The Maker is the world."

You're losing track of the conversation. That's about when Karas stumbles into the scene, running through the now-shattered front door. "Maka!"

...He's got his daiklave out. That's not a good sign.

You almost dread to ask. "...What's going on?"

"A bunch of flying girls in armor with huge guns have flown into the garden and kidnapped some of the guest!"

You take a deep breath. "Please repeat."

From far up in the sky, out of your field of view, a beam washes down and strikes the ground next to Karas. He leaps in, the explosion chewing up the pavement all around, and rolls into the palace. "I'M NOT MAKING THIS UP!"

You twitch. "Did they take dad?"

"No, but they grabbed Old Man Arbani and the Sahlak chick and a few others. The other nobles are screaming for a Wyld Hunt already." He glances up through a shattered window, trying to spot the shooter.

You glare at Integer.

"Not all Alchemical Exalted agree on the methodology of salvation." She calmly explains. "At least some elements advocate a hostile takeover of your world to secure the resources we need."

"And you've got nothing to do with them?"

"We share the same objective." She states.

"We can't really help you if your friends shoot at us and kidnap people we need!" You point at the garden furiously.

"I understand."

"No you don't understand." You step closer. "Are you going to help?"

"I am not supposed to directly interfere in other Alchemical Exalted's projects."

"They are interfering in yours!"

"Indirectly." She nods sagely to herself. "I am quite contraried by this turn of events, but I will still not act directly against my comrades. Still, I will accompany you and attempt to persuade them to cease their attacks."

"We better do that fast." You mumble. "Do you know the Realm?"

"It is a polity I have been informed about, yes."

"If we don't get everything squared out in half a hour, the Realm is going to come here in force. They are going to hunt us down."

"I do not believe that your Realm has the firepower to stand against our forces."

"Oh, you have no idea." You groan. "Are you going to help or not?"

"I'll show you the way." She sighs, hovering outside. You, Karas, Tia, Mikahil and Starfall follow her. Rankar V is... who knows where. Eskarin and Rankar VI are still with you, but they are NOT following what's going on.

The terrain outside has been torn open by a thick fight, it seems. Some wounded on the ground, and Valeriana tending to them. The others from your Circle trying to keep the situation under control. The skies seem clear.

Rekka, all bandaged up, is lying on the grass nearby, but he tries to stand up when he notices Integer. "Sifu...-"

"Lie down." She stops him. "You are wounded. Your assistance is not required under these conditions. Focus on recovery."

Feeling defeated, the swordsman falls back down. He eyes Tia warily.

"...You fought well." She mumbles. It almost sounds like she's feeling sorry about putting him on a stretcher.

"You're not human." Not a question.

"Sort of." She admits, walking past him.

You glance sideways at Integer. "Sifu?"

"In exchange for his collaboration, I introduced him to some styles of swordsmanship from my world, that were new to him." She explains. "The word "Sifu", in this culture, indicates the teacher in a traditional master-apprent-"

"I know what a Sifu is." You groan. "Nevermind."

From the thick of the crowd, a shocked Askar wades through you. He looks quite dismayed.

Once he's in front of you, he just gesticulates around himself, wild-eyed, for a good ten seconds, pointing at Integer, the sky, the nobles, the craters all around. "WHAT" He then utters.

Yeah, you couldn't have put it any differently yourself in his shoes. "...I can spend a good five minutes explaining it to you, but I'm not sure I get it either. Or, we can put those five minutes towards fixing this mess before the Realm moves in."

He opens his mouth and articulates mute sounds for five more seconds before giving up. "...ok."

Karas is a Dawn Caste and arguably your strongest fighter. At least on par with Tia.
Starfall is a Night Caste and ninja and a sniper (has an essence rifle).
Talon is a Changing Moon lunar. He's big and burly, but in reality he's not the "dumb brute" stereotype he looks like and is pretty balanced between brains, brawn, and social.
Zareen is a Wood-Aspect DB. She's been trained as an assassin, and she's skilled with a bow, handling poisons, and in covert ops.
Aexel is an Air-Aspect DB. He's a bookish scholar, a sorceror and a loremaster. His specialty is abstract and theoretical fields.
Valeriana is a Twilight Caste. She's an engineer, with a minor in sorcery and medicine. She is incredibly smart and knowledgeable, a skilled crafter, but not especially fighty.
Mikahil is a Night Caste. He's a diplomat and administrator, skilled at bureaucracy and management, and has some infiltration and combat skills.

That's why I advocated taking only Tia and the DBs. Shes competent without charms and they can use whatever they like, while Karas and Talon together could keep people safe without using charms, especially if someone got Rekka up.
>>

I hear you, and I'm tempted tempted, but look at it from Maka's POV. She just had this Exalt she knows nothing about tell her she could probably take her. She knew what a Solar was. So she can assume the rest of her friends are just a strong, which means a potential fight with several Celestial-tier Exalts. That needs to end quickly.

Also, for anyone familiar with Worm who would like more GLORIOUS ROBOT COMMUNISM, I can't recommend the quest Alchemical Solutions highly enough:

"Alright. Dad, you stay here and handle things on the palace grounds. Mika, help him out." You start giving directions. "Talon, Starfall is in the palace. She's a bit wounded, so take care of her."

"What?" He glowers. "Who hurt her?"

You glance sideways at Integer, who has a blank expression on her face. "I'll... explain later. For now, take care of her. Everyone else, cover the perimeter. Eskarin, grab your boy and take cover somewhere."

They nod eagerly.

You snap your fingers. "Zareen, you're good at this sort of things."

She approaches, bow in hand. "Yup?"

"You're with me, Tia and Karas."

"Who's our new friend?"

"Integer." The Alchemical introduces herself.

"Integer here's going to take us on a magical adventure." You explain. "To shoot flying armored girls out of the sky and save Gem."

"What are we waiting for?" She grins, pulling a fresh arrow from her quiver.

As a side note EF, do you have any thoughts on Non-Alchemical Exalts attune, or otherwise interacting, with the Alchemical type that corresponds to their Magical Material?
Not necessarily Maka and Integer specifically, just in general. You usually have interesting thoughts on these things.
>>
>>936475
Well, Alchemical are not ARTIFACTS, so "attuning" to them, in a practical sense, is meaningless.

Now, if you want to use it as a figure of speech for bedroom hijinks, that's a whole different story.
>>
>>936315
I found it.
Page 42 of Manual of Exalted Power - Alchemicals explains what happens when a chosen of Creation meats their Autochthonian counterpart.
>Solars: A Solar facing one of the Orichalcum Caste feels a stirring in his heart and becomes keenly aware that the Lord of Heaven Chose him to be a Lawgiver. In particular, the words spoken to a Zenith by the Unconquered Sun at the time of his Exaltation might quietly echo in the back of his mind. The next time the Solar sleeps, he is likely to experience vivid dream-memories of the First Age due to resonant agitation of his Exaltation. While their characters are in the presence of an Orichalcum Caste, the players of Solars who meet their Limit Break condition (see Exalted, p. 103) ignore one success on the associated Virtue roll. This effect can reduce a character’s Limit gain to zero points.
>Lunars: A Lunar in the presence of one of the Moonsilver Caste experiences a certain turmoil within her soul. She remembers why Luna Exalted her, and those things she has chosen to steward impress themselves upon her mind. When next she sleeps, she is likely to dream of the things she has triumphantly safeguarded, both in this life and in those before, and perhaps also of her Solar mate—even if she has never yet met that individual. While their characters are near a Moonsilver Alchemical, the players of Casteless Lunars ignore one success every time they roll their characters’ Wyld taint dice pool (see The Manual of Exalted Power—The Lunars, p. 201). All Lunar players who must roll their characters’ primary Virtue due to exposure to the full moon (see The Manual of Exalted Power—The Lunars, p. 121) ignore one success. This effect can reduce a character’s Limit gain to zero points.
>Sidereals: A Sidereal who comes in contact with an Alchemical of the Starmetal Caste feels her destiny as a servant of fate bear down upon her. She experiences vagueimpressions of the purpose the Maidens intended when theywove the Fateful Exaltation into her destiny—which might not coincide with the Sidereal’s own aspirations. When next she sleeps, the Sidereal is likely to dream of great destinies
throughout history relating to her caste—epic journeys, great romances, legendary battles, et cetera. She dreams of other Exalted she has known, both in this life and in others, and the roles they played in shaping the world. While their characters are in the presence of a Starmetal Alchemical, players of Sidereals who must roll their characters’ primary Virtue due to fate manipulation that runs contrary to it ignore one success. This effect can reduce a character’s Limit gain to zero points. Additionally, if the presence of other Sidereals would serve to aggravate Limit gain, each Starmetal present offsets the presence of one Sidereal (see The Manual of Exalted Power—The Sidereals, pp. 118–119).

But Gem doesn't have a sky.
>>
>>936517
>Dragon-Blooded: A Terrestrial who meets one of the Jade Caste is struck by a feeling of kinship. Memories of blood relatives might arise, and he gains a sense of connection to the rest of the Dragon-Blooded Host. If there is anyone the Dragon-Blooded considers to be a strong authority figure—perhaps one of his parents or a Seventh Legion officer’s taimyo—the Exalt is likely to dream of her when next he sleeps. Dragon-Blooded in the presence of a Jade Caste reduce the cost to activate their anima banner by one mote (this stacks with any reductions from Breeding) and entirely ignore the first Limit gain condition they experience in a scene.
>Abyssals: An Abyssal in the presence of an Orichalcum Caste feels a significant turmoil in her soul. The Black Exaltation roils, as though pressed to remember things best forgotten. She might feel a vague sense of loss and of longing to walk a path she knows not how to find. When next she sleeps, she is likely to be harried by visions of a previous incarnation as a Solar. The Soulsteel Caste causes no such emotional resonance…but they do produce a strange interference when the Neverborn attempt to impose their wrath upon their servants. When the player of an Abyssal rolls his Essence to vent Resonance (see The Manual of Exalted Power—The Abyssals, p. 113), the Exalt may forgo one success worth of punishment while still losing the associated point of Resonance. This effect cannot completely obviate an Abyssal’s Dark Fate, however. If the player rolls only one success, the Abyssal must suffer that punishment. Unlike other types of Exalted, both the Abyssal and Soulsteel Caste are aware of this interference. Upon reflection, both gain the impression that it is a benefit intended for something to which the Abyssals might be similar but ultimately are not and can never be.

I won't bother posting the GSP since it isn't relevant to this quest.
>>
>>936525
wait they even HAVE a passage related to that?
>>
>>936536
Well I WASN'T going to post it, but since someone asked
>Green Sun Princes: By default, the Infernal Exalted do not experience any emotional response to their Alchemical predecessors. Yet, a Green Sun Prince who possesses the Past Life Background is likely to have his dreams affected in the same manner as a Solar if exposed to one of the Orichalcum Caste. Moreover, while in the presence of a member of that caste, the Infernal’s Dodge MDV is considered to be two lower than normal for the purpose of Past Life rolls. Additionally, regardless of their Backgrounds, the Primordial nature of Alchemical Exaltation resonates with that of the Green Sun Princes. While in the presence of any caste of Alchemical Exalt, the players of Green Sun Princes who must roll Essence for violating their Urge (see The Manual of Exalted Power—The Infernals, p. 80) ignore one success on that roll. This effect can reduce an Infernal’s Limit gain to zero points, as her nature as a burgeoning Yozi asserts itself above her chains of servitude to her masters.

So basically, having an Alchemical of a type you resonate with around makes it easier to fight the Great Curse, or your exalt types equivalent, while also triggering memories of past lives.
Neat.
>>
>>936441
Fuck no. The author isn't running a quest, he just takes votes as suggestions for his shitty fanfic.
>>
>>936378
>"In exchange for his collaboration, I introduced him to some styles of swordsmanship from my world, that were new to him."
Also just thinking about it, everything he did that put him on par with a couple of Exalts was thanks to the Martial Arts he learned.

I want to see that in the hands of an actual Solar.
>>
>>936564
Basically, yeah. The Great Curse hasn't come up too often, but more First Age flashbacks might be fun.

>>936929
It's mentioned somewhere, in one of the expansion books, that Mortals trained by Exalts have a harder time Exalting than Mortals who perform slightly less impressive deeds but do so completely under their own merits.
>>
>>937026
I meant more teaching the MA to Karas or maybe even just Sammy
>>
>>937026
>more First Age flashbacks might be fun
I want to remind you on the conversation we had with mik about that, not too long ago.
>>
>>937042
>I want to remind you on the conversation we had with mik about that, not too long ago.
Then you should do so, because I don't remember such a conversation ever happening, or what his stance was, or what stance we took.
>>
>>937051
His was along the lines of 'I'd rather stop having visions of the monster I was' we quietly agreed.
>>
>>937061
I'm of two minds about that.
On the one hand, dwelling too much on the crimes of the previous holder of our Exaltation won't help anybody. We're not her, and we're not responsible for what she did.
On the other hand, there is a lot to be learned from those experiences that could help both us and others. The First Age had Technology and Charms that people today would never even think to create, just being aware of them would be enough to cause drastic changes to the worlds power dynamics.
All of this is just me musing of course. We voted on it, so Maka's stance on the matter is decided until something happens in quest that would cause her to reevaluate it.
>>
>>937107
>Maka's stance on the matter is decided until something happens in quest that would cause her to reevaluate it.
Something like the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine? A very long and concrete dream-memory? We've had that.
Also 112-114, somewhere there.
>>
>>937113
All I'm saying is we've changed our minds about stuff in the past.
It would have to be caused by something really big, but really big things happen in Exalted.
>>
>>937107
>just being aware of them would be enough to cause drastic changes to the worlds power dynamics.
I wouldn't go that far, but unless they have another Directional Titan in our inherited memories we don't need to go searching for more stuff.

A lot of what was around in the First Age isn't really applicable to the current age. The past in my opinion is best left in the past. Use it to learn from, but don't follow the same path.
>>
>>937113
>>937127
If I could throw my two cents in, while I agree about not dwelling too much about our past lives, the thread where we relived the Usurpation is my favorite single thread of the quest. That's why I thought it was neat that Alchemicals could trigger more of that kind of thing.
Maybe we could see a memory of before our previous exaltation went completely nuts, back when she still got along with her Circle and Lunar Mate. It would be interesting to see how Maka reacted to the bright side of the First Age, given that most of her experiences have been with it's less pleasant aspects.
>>

Ehhhh, from the synposis on rpgdrivethru it sounds like Preacher the RPG. Not really my cup of tea. To each their own though
>>
>>939490
Yes, they are.
Maka is one of the rare cases in fiction where her breasts are typically undersized in fanart, rather than the other way around.
>>
>>939490
Yes thank you, we're very proud of them.
>>
>>937157
I'm not sure I entirely agree about dismissing first hand accounts of First Age technology out of hand because it's 'the past'. That falls in with learning from the past. If any scientists or historian were offered the chance to Assassin's Creed shit and get a first hand account of their past lives and possibly see shit that went extinct or that hadn't remembered in history? They'd do it without question.
>>
>>937379
>It would be interesting to see how Maka reacted to the bright side of the First Age, given that most of her experiences have been with it's less pleasant aspects.
Even if we don't decide to try and explore our First Age memories for clues on how to gain an advanage in the present, I feel like this is something that should happen. Maka doesn't seem to have a great impression of the first age. And while it ended badly, there is a reason almost half the Sidereals fought to try and keep it.
>>
>>939499
>>939504
will they get bigger?
>>
>>939508
If we improve her Social Attribute again, yes. We currently have it maxed though, and, barring shenanigans, won't be able to increase it again for about a century.
>>
>>939505
My problem with that is two-fold.
The first is that we aren't Valeriana or Irene, if we see something from the past we probably won't have a clue to how it works or what it's even doing other than the most obvious.

The second is that it's kinda lame.
We were exalted for the things we did on our own, not because we copied what someone cooler did in the past. Val all on her own already moved boats from oars to sails before even finding us and has already moved on from there.

To be clear, I'm not against searching the past if we have to, but I don't think we need to barring various circumstances.
>>
>>939511
century in-game or rl

They double as Essence pools. We just have to increase essence again.
>>
>>939522
in-game.
Real life wouldn't be worth mentioning.

>>939523
I don't think that's true in this system, but I might be wrong. We could try upping our Mental at some point to check.
>>
>>939528
Maka's vast Essence pools are all the proof we need. Where else would she keep that much?
>>
>>941410
I misunderstood what you said.
I thought you meant we just needed to improve our Essence to be able to up our Stat limit. But there is no Essence Stat in EF's system, so I was disagreeing that that was how it worked.
Maka's actual essence pool is far too small for her to be using her breasts as storage, it would need to be at least twice as big for me to buy that theory.
>>
I just realized this is probably the last thread before Exaltedfag takes his annual Christmas and New Year break.
So I just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas before we fall off the board and don't see each other till 2017.
