"Black Hearts. Cold Steel. Dark Deeds."

These are the words of the Black Company, the infamous band of mercenaries that has been on one side or the other of every major conflict on the continent since its founding.
The Company has seldom cared who they fight for or the cause so long as they are paid, and paid well, when the killing work is done. Though they may be considered by some to be little more than glorified brigands, it cannot be said that the Black Company is not good at what they do.

Recently the Company has taken up a contract with a new employer, one more powerful than any that have come before. An employer with endless ambition, as well as the means and lack of moral scruples needed to pursue it. An employer that pays well...

>The first few posts will entail the minimal progress we made in the aborted thread last week.

In the meantime, to keep you guys entertained, give an indication on how lewd the writing should become during any potential intimate moments of Lieutenant Prince. I will up front refuse to write anything overtly detailed and explicit (mostly because it would probably be terrible and gross instead of entertaining), but it's up to you guys whether there is anything at all.

You are Lieutenant 'Prince'. A seasoned NCO of the Black Company that, through a cruel twist of fate, found yourself landed with an officer's commission. Now you find yourself in command of the 7th Kiregstrom Shocktroopers, a position with more responsibility and scrutiny than you ever wanted.

7th Kriegstrom Platoon
Comprised of the most well-armed and armoured troops, 7th Platoon offers the meanest, fiercest and, given the mortality rate, dumbest soldiers to be found in the Black Company. A more bizarre collection of fighting men and women has likely never been seen. Down-on-their-luck heroes with a magic swords and brooding pasts like Cairsun; escaped slaves with a penchant for magik like Nissar; disgruntled veterans of the Nuemunster Legions like Corporal ‘Jack’ Marcus; Scarred Wildborn ‘Smiles’ (because fighting is really all a Wildborn knows); aging Skald huscarls like Hirstun of Ligh that should have retired long ago. You even have a mute rotten undead warrior, ‘Mask’, which is one even you haven’t heard before. Nevermind the fekking Dragon.

They’re your men (and women). Mercenaries, that kill for money. Warriors, with the right degree of pride and stubbornness. Soldiers, that fight for the man next to them. You never wanted this position, deciding who dies where. Dark Father knows it’s only a matter of time before you get them all killed.

Recap
Following the fall of the Neumunster city of Sarsburg several weeks ago, your Employer has sent his unholy host spread throughout the entirety of the western and northern reaches of the Neumunster Nation. While the main part of the Company and the undead went west to Oxenfurt Bridge, you were tasked with the seizure of the northern town of Kresden.

Having taken Kresden mostly intact, at the cost of a few comrades to the ravenous Grenn, the rest of the province should follow in short order. For now though, you're busy stopping your own men doing more damage to the town in occupying it than they ever did in taking it.

”I liked what I saw last night, sir.” CPL 'White Bitch' Tara leans in with a hungry grin and whispers conspiratorially “You ever done it in a church?”

"Yes, yes I have." Well, technically not a church per-se but it probably counts. You ponder the CPL's offer for a moment; issues like rank, favouritism and sexual frustration are considered in turn. Father, it's been a while. Ah fek it, why turn down a willing and attractive woman? It will be on your terms though. "But we're not putting on a fekking show for the troops, Corporal. I'm staying at the manor. Report to my room tonight for your... debriefing."

You feel a smug sense of satisfaction at CPL ‘White Bitch’ Tara’s taken aback expression, to her credit she quickly recovers.

“Done. Was wondering when you’d grow some balls, ‘your lordship’.” She grunts, nodding at your shoulder. A thin trail of red is pouring from underneath your battered shoulder plate [HP: 19/25]. ”What happened there? Didn’t see that Dog-fek put so much of a touch on you.”

“Ach.” You shrug, then wince. ”That Cataphract got in a good one. I kind of let it lie for a bit."

”Idiot.” ‘White Bitch’ deadpans without affection. ”Get it seen to.”

It’s not so bad, a few days rest will see you right as rain. If you stick around now then you’re bound to be late for them town council meeting with the other LT’s.

”Actually, I wanted to talk to about Snake. He’s one of yours isn’t he?” You can still make the meeting on time easy enough, but that… behaviour beforehand needs to be addressed.

”Yeah, course I got stuck with the bleedin’ elf. Calls himself THE Snake. Fekkin wanker.” ‘White Bitch’ gives a noncommittal flick of the wrist. ”Damn fast little twerp though. Can carve a body up like a dwarven warmachine on speedo. Why?”

”A little unpleasantness earlier with the locals. Him and a few rangers had cornered a girl…”

”Fekking again? Why can’t the knife-ears pay for it like every other sorry bastard in this cohort?” The Corporal starts to spit contemptuously. She remembers that she’s in a church and thinks better of it. “He give you trouble?”

”Something like that. Nothing worth a Captain’s Court, but still…”

”You’re one of them Blackguards right?” You nod. ”Fekkin easy then, so is he. Challenge the noncey prick, beat him blue and be done with it. One, no issue of you being a tosspot and abusing rank powers. Two, the little shit learns his place. Three, the rest of this sorry lot will think twice before giving you lip as well.”

‘White Bitch’ grins as she finishes counting off her points on her fingers. A feat made somewhat less impressive as she didn’t need to utilise her injured arm.

> I want to set an example. Rape, murder, insurbodination. That won’t fly. I’ll beat it into them if I have to.” [Heart of Gold + 1; Courage]

The thing though is it's really a mix of the two. Having the town hear about the rape is a problem, yes, but it's relatively minor.

Insubordination about the rape is a big fucking issue though. You listen to your superiors, no questions asked. you don't get pissy and try to start something.

”I’m no fan of rapists and that sort of scum in the ranks, but that’s not the problem here.” You stroke your chin, the stubbles of missed hair annoying you. ”The problem is the disobedience. I’m going to put a stop to that. And I’m going to do it as fekking hard as it needs to be.”

”Huh, thought you were gonna go all preacher on me for a moment there. You’re right, them acting up is one thing. But it’s them acting up to you that calls for the beating.” With a lustful wink ‘White Bitch’ takes her leave. ”Best get to that meeting of yours. See you later, Prince.”

The Manor isn’t too far from the Temple, but you haven’t even turned the corner when the crash of breaking glass alerts you. Quickening your pace you see four more rangers, making a fekking nuisance of themselves again. You grit your teeth in frustration. Can’t they hold off for one fekking moment?

The four Zikashi sisters. Brown-skinned, hard, wiry women as deadly with their knives as they are with their massive warbows, on horse or foot. Even among the rangers they keep to themselves, laughing and talking in their own circle but content with sullen silence in the presence of anyone else. Only the eldest, with the war paint, ever talks to anyone. And she does so in single words where possible.

You never paid them much heed, but now they’re smashing and looting this shop. Which makes them your business. Currently the youngest, just finishing her transition from lanky boy-looking creature to full-bodied woman. Next to her a face-down figure dressed in upstreet townsman clothes groans, his head slightly bloody. And squatting next to him, biting down on a Gelt coin…

”Vendis FEKKING Durvano.”

You’re a little too surprised to actually be angry at one of your old team from 2nd Squad. ”What is this? And why the fek aren’t you on the walls with CPL ‘Jack’ Marcus?”

”Arrrr, Capn! It warms me sore heart to see ya so hale and hearty. The kindly Corporal has a billet in place now for the walls, I’m on in two hours.” The ex-pirate from the Sabari Isles gives you a winning grin, made all the more pretty with his missing teeth haphazardly replaced with gold or other cheaper metals.

”It’s ‘Lieutenant’ or ‘Sir’, not ‘Captain’ Trooper. Unlike Nissar you have no excuse to fek up the rank names. Now what is going on here?”

He gestures to the broken windows and slightly battered shop, door knocked off of its hinges as further crashing ensues inside.

”Oh, this? Harhar, just a wee mite o’ rekkysiton.”

”Rekky… you mean -requisition-?”

”Thats the one, by thunder!” Trooper Durvano roars as he slaps his knee. ”By the mermaid’s muff I love these landlubber terms. Anyway, our mutual acquaintance Brento gave up a list of well-to-do townsfolk which might be of a particular interest.”

Brento, one of the less than upstanding members of Kresden society who provided your platoon with a hideout yesterday. You suspected something like this was part of the deal, but it seems no one had the gall to actually tell you. Trooper Vendis Durvano must see something in your scowl that shows you’re not in the mood for this. He holds up a palm placatingly.

”Easy, El-Tee. Turning a bind eye to some of Brento’s activities, provided he’s reasonable about it, was part of the deal of him harbouring us for the night. In return we get the pickings of those which might be the most useful for us.”

”And what would we find ‘most useful’.” You’re quite sure Durvano’s definition of ‘useful’ is likely restricted to tits and gold.

”Weapons, matey. Weapons.” The ex-pirate’s grin grows ever wider. ”This here shop holds prisoner the finest weapons in the county. Me and these here lovely little pretties sought to liberate them. For the good of the Company, you see?”

At this he reaches out to pat the eldest Zikashi sister on the should, but quickly retracts it as her hand shoots to a wicked looking dagger at her side. He smiles nervously.

”Ah, short tempers. And rude. And not much for talk. Fekking bitches actually. But other than that, yar they be quite lovely companions. Care to join us, chief?”

> 3 Success!

The ‘requisition’ is commenced with a lot less shouting, laughter and smashing than would probably be the case if a superior officer wasn’t present. As it is the Zikashi sisters methodically break every class cabinet in the respectable storefront, even those clearly unlocked or open. You and Vendis follow through, heavy boots crunching over broken glass.

As a mercenary you find yourself using sharp things quite often. Over time, you have come to recognise that it behoves you to familiarise yourself with the identities of those who make the –best- sharp things. Similar to how a cavalrymen knows his horses, you know your swords.

So you recognise where few would that the maker of these blades is very very good.

”Durvano, who does this shop belong to?”

”Fellow by the name of Flinn.”

”Flinn?” You try to stifle an undignified squeak of excitement. “Comenos Flinn? THE Comenos Flinn?”

”You know him?” Vendis Durvano asks half-interestedly as he looks over a gaudy piece of scrap-metal clearly designed to look good on a prince’s waist than in their hand. The Trooper is more interested in the impractical gold hilt than the finely honed blade.

”He’s only the human alive to study under the Albani Runemasters in our … lifetime… wow…”

Your rant trails off as you spot a beautiful specimen, tucked away in the corner. Trooper Durvano, no stranger to the look of pure greed, grins at your expression.

”Arr, you be the commanding officer, sir. First pick o’ the booty, says I!”

----------------------------------------------

Pick one. Only one is present, no handing off the other to subordinates.

Any Order inflicts a -10DC penalty (you issue it when you decide stances, My Blood For His etc).

So you could make 3 orders for a -30DC in personal combat. The Sword of Sovereignty basically makes the first order a DC freebie.

>Gained Sword of Sovereignty!
"Bit by bit, the bitter Corporal became the very thing which he had once so wholly hated. A Father-damned 'Officer'."

---------------------------

Tentatively picking up the intricately wrought sword, somewhere between a bastard-sword and a claymore, you experience an odd sensation. Similar to when you first donned the Cloak of Command.

For once you actually feel ‘commandery’. As if people should listen to you for no good reason other than because you’re the one saying stuff. You take your hand off the hilt and the sensation vanishes as quickly as it appeared. You again feel like the very mortal and very ordinary mercenary out of his depth.
If the rest of the Albani work is anything like this you should have looted a Runesmith while you were in Albani years ago, regardless whose side you were on at the time.

You realise Trooper Durvano has been talking to you for quite some time now.

”Sorry, what?”

”Yarr, I –said- the shopkeep outside had a few words to say with a wee touch of encouragement. He says your Comenos fella be away. His son Argyle be the one running the show for now, holed up in some place other side o’ town.”

”Ah, yes.” If you could get your hands on the master swordsmith, Supply would probably bend over backwards for the rest of your life…

”Where is Comenos then?”

”Give me a salty second, sir.” Vendis Durvano turns around and walks outside. You’re too busy admiring the blade to notice the muffled muttering, the soft thuds, a groan and then some more muttering. The ex-pirate comes back into the store with a sheepish grin, mercifully not displaying his lack of authentic teeth for once.

”Err, y'see… last anyone heard this Comenos sort was staying at the Swordmaker’s Guild.” Durvano rubs the back of his neck. ”In Sarsburg.”

”Ah.” Well that puts paid to that. If Comenos was among the few survivors that made it to the palace he certainly wasn’t advertising himself.

”And er… what about them, Captain? Er, sir, I means of course.” Vendis Durvano nods over at the Zakashi sisters.

Three of them are ululating their shrill victory cries as one swirls on top of a turned over cabinet, holding aloft a bunch of shiny (and empty) scabbards.

You swear being an officer is like dealing with children sometimes. Angry, dangerous children.

Taking and hold land for yourself would require you to not only break your contract with your employer (The Necromancer) but also usurp your position in the Black Company and defy Captain 'Cutthroat' Kiranova.

As Prince seems to be a 'Company-man' through and through (at least that's my impression, please let me know if you guys think that's incorrect) that would seem very out of character.

Convincing your Captain to take steps in that direction is certainly on the table though. While the Black Company books didn't really do much along these lines, mercenaries have been paid in land-rights for far longer than they've been paid in gold.

After the complete mess decimating the Company in Sarsburg, the Captain has been more apprehensive of their contract than before.

”Aye. I’ll give it a shot.” The look on Durvano’s face doesn’t put much faith in his chances.

You sigh, mentally preparing an explanation for Captain Kiranova as to why her nice new town was burnt to the ground by her own troops.

“Try to make sure they don’t kill anyone. Fetch SGT ‘Bad Hand’ if things get out of… hand.”

”Righto. Leave it to me, cap.” The Trooper says with a brave grin. ”Haven’t you heard? I’m quite the ladies man.”

You leave as the ex-pirate attempts to flirt and/or calm down the four hard, flint-eyed Ranger-women. Three of whom apparently don’t speak common.

”So… you girls hear that I was once nearly, almost a captain of my very own vessel?”

….

Placating dragons, sorting the dead, making time for the wounded and ‘requisitioning’ yourself a nice new sword. All in all it’s been a busy fekkin morning and you’re very late for this meeting with the well-to-do townspeople.

You didn’t want to give them the wrong impression, so you had them meet you and the other Lieutenants at…

Trooper Kid subtly flicks you an annoyed glance at your tardiness, but everyone else acts as if you’re right on time. After 10 years of making it to every briefing at least 5 minutes early, no one kicking up a fuss at you being late is a gratifying feeling you could damn well get used to. Even if it is out of pure fear. All the wealthy and mighty of Kresden are huddled on the ramparts, 20 men (and one woman) clutching their expensive coats that seem to do little to combat the gust of wind. The expressions of the crowd range from terrified to resigned. However you quickly identify the people that appear to be the ones actually chosen to do the speaking.

Gerald something or other. Of the Guild of Furriers and chosen to represent the Kresden merchants.
Hans Ludwin, the bailiff’s son. On account of LT ‘Hawk’ having personally killed the bailiff last night.
And a holy man, Brother Kergin. Representative of the Temple. Out of all those present he seems the most calm and collected. He bears some resemblance to the Guard from last night that you took prisoner. Almost certainly a relative.

The one called Gerald is staring dumbstruck at the flying speck in the horizon. He turns to the young banner-bearer.

”Is that the-the-the uh, the…”

Trooper Kid gives a solemn nod in response.
Someone with foresight, probably Kid, brought out a covered bench from the gatehouse as a makeshit table for you and the other two Lieutenants. Grown men flinch as LT ‘Shaftie’ of the Rangers and ‘Hawk’ of the Infantry, rise from their seats upon your approach.

Since you wear it all the time, you sometimes forget the effect your Blackthorn Armour can have on the average man unused to it. It makes you appear a taller, if not actually make you taller, than most of the men present. They make way for you on the crowded ramparts, much more than is strictly necessary.

There are seats only for you and the other officers. The townspeople are left standing, no one dares say a word. You regard them for a moment and then speak…

-------------------------
(1) Write in:

>[How do you introduce yourself (and perhaps the Company/Employer) to the Kresden town representatives?]

----------------------

(2) Usually outside of imminent combat you speak to your fellow Company men without your helm. However, with the Cloak of Command it is entirely possible to speak with your Blackthorn helm on and remain perfectly understood. When addressing the townspeople you:

>Keep your Helm on. A bit of theatrical true, but a touch of dread will keep them well in line.

>Take your Helm off. It will reassure them to see a human face on their new masters representatives.
>>

>[How do you introduce yourself (and perhaps the Company/Employer) to the Kresden town representatives?]
"Hi, I'm Lieutenant Prince, of the Black Guard. We own your town now if you hadn't noticed."

>Take your Helm off. It will reassure them to see a human face on their new masters representatives.

I think being reasonable is a good idea. And by reasonable, I mean "we get what we want when we want and we don't hurt anyone or have our dragon burn all your crops then eat your children."

Greetings. I am Lt Prince of the Black Company. Your town is now under the control of the Necromancer, our employer. If he wanted you dead, that would have already happened. However, if you would prefer to serve the Necromancer in death instead of in life, that can be arranged.

There is an almost audible ripple of relief as you take off your helm, revealing the occupant of the terrifying suit of armour to be a normal mortal man and not a dread vampire or undead abomination of some sort.

”Greetings. I am Lt. Prince of the Black Company.” Your voice is amplified slightly by the enchanted Cloak of Command. ”This town now belongs to the Necromancer, our employer. I expect no problems. My superiors would prefer a town of –living- subjects upon their arrival, but I assure you the alternative is still certainly an option.”

You turn to Lt. ‘Hawk’ with a nod, who calls forth the concerned parties one by one.

The Guildmaster Gerald is seeking your permission to open the gates to refugees, both ways. The majority of those awaiting entry outside fled at the signs of violence but a few hard-cases still want in. He claims an equal number wish to return to their farmsteads in the countryside, unwilling to flee further since they fighting has made it this far anyway. You’re fairly certain that a large portion of those will simply flee further into Free Alliance territory, but you do need farmers and the like to return sooner or later if the Kresden countryside is going to be anyone use at all. There are also townspeople that claim to do business with Tassenland and Bern. It is with no small amount of shock and dismay that you confirm the town of Bern was razed to the ground over a week ago.

The bailiff’s son Hans is concerned with the refugees, townspeople and soldiers. There is food to last at least a month in granaries if food is rationed, but the biggest immediate problem is the upheaval. He urges that a ‘business as usual’ policy is best, while a state of heightened tension from curfews and shakedowns that your fellow officers are considering would only panic people and lead to resentment and… ‘mistakes’.

That the town has stockpiled food to last a month even with refugees pouring in speaks wonders of Neumunster organisation.

Brother Kergin is trying to negotiate the release of the guards taken prisoner. They’re commoners, the majority of which are those found to be told old, too young or otherwise not cut out for the Neumunster Legions. A ransom wouldn’t net a whole lot. So really it’s whether you feel like an example should be made one way or the other. The whole issue of Necromancy being absolutely abhorred and reviled by his faith is very carefully skirted around. Clearly he’s interested in securing the lives of the townspeople before taking up any moral objections, a practical approach you find quite refreshing after some of the zealots you’ve had to deal with. He also keeps looking at Trooper ‘Saint’ behind you, with an expression you can’t quite fathom.

And of course everyone is concerned about the behaviour of your soldiers. While most of the townspeople present are sensible enough not to push their luck with you, the bailiff’s son is outright demanding the punishment of whichever of your men was responsible for the recent rape and grievous wounding of a refugee girl from the nearby village. Guildmaster Gerald tries to shush the young man in a panic, begging your forgiveness. Brother Kergin grits his teeth as he admits that she was admitted to the temple shortly before this meeting, and that the wounding was ‘indeed horrific’. He looks like he wants to speak further but shamefacedly holds his tongue.

The young bailiff’s son Hans Ludwin stares at you with what they imagine is righteous anger. You don’t put much stock in that lasting long under the new regime.

We dont have to do jack shit for them. We basically own them at this point, but it will be better to make it seem, to the people who don't know any better at least, that we are a merciful, even gratious master. This will go long ways towards general good will in the people, and at the same time we don't actually have to compensate them for anything. At the end of the day, nothing will have actually changed, and the people will go to bed feeling as if the world has been righted under their feet.

It's basic politics and media/acting. Talk circles around your audience, and you can have them believing that shit tastes like prime rib.

Worshippers of the Dark Father generally ascribe to a "everything is shit" attitude. Basically; life is unfair, the world is unfair and nobody is going to go out of their way to make it less unfair.

There is some theological (complemented by physical) disagreement over whether that means a "might = right" approach is the most correct moral guideline.

Allowing these liberties means (essentially) that the town is less likely to outright rebel. It does, however, mean that passive-resistance (such as not reporting an obvious spy or not actively helping the regime) is much more likely.

This is for the duration of your stay.

0 = The resistance is organised, well-informed and dedicated. [Further ramifications]
1 = A poorly-planned revolt that is put down, messily. Take a casualty.
2 = Minor incidents during your stay. One of your own suffers a wound.
3 = Model citizens. Life continues as normal, mostly.

While conferring with your fellow officers the town representatives mutter nervously in apprehension. Lt. ‘Hawk’ runs a tight crew and is satisfied that the discipline you promise can be maintained. Lt. ‘Shaftie’ Adams is more… reluctant to assure you his Rangers will be punished for future infractions.

You deliver your mandates to the townspeople like a judge to a condemned man receiving a far lighter sentence than they expected. In fact some appear completely surprised at the lack of wholesale slaughter and live sacrifices that the Undead host is becoming so famous for. The release of the prisoners, as payment for damages already incurred, is met with warmth. Half of the guardsmen are cousins or guildsmen themselves pressed into service. The dead are already dead, but the return of the living does win over some.

Already you can see the cogs turning in the more shrewd mercantile minds as thoughts shift from immediate survival to the future. After all, one man’s crisis is another man’s opportunity. Any right-thinking Neumunster citizen would remain forever loyal to the Emperor of course. But the Emperor is dead…

Not all are content with that. The bailiff’s son is still angry, though whether that is really over the girl or that he is forced to deal with his father’s killers is anyone’s guess. You speak to Brother Kergin, might as well get to the bottom of this sorry business.

”What happened to the girl?”

”They… after they had…” The priest doesn’t looks more weary than disgusted. But a sleepless night of treating wounded, whichever side they were from, might do that to a man.

”They cut her lips off.” Hans Ludwin spits the words. ”-After- your men were finished with her.”

You knew it was going to be bad. But the important thing is to deal with this in-house. The Company takes care of its own, even the very worst of its own.

”This is a Company matter. We have our own ways of dealing with this kind of behaviour.” You shrug, no mean feat in the Blackthorn Plate. ”Call it Justice if you will. The girl’s family will be compensated.”

The look on Hans Ludwin’s face indicates he very much doubts you even understand the concept of justice. But he remains silent.

With an unavoidably awkward cough Master Gerald timidly indicates he wishes to speak.

”Lieutenant Prince, you are –most- gracious.” The old man gives a stiff bow. ”We are fortunate to have one so… ahem, merciful in command. However, obviously we have concerns for our future wellbeing. First Weylan, then Sarsburg and now Bern. The Ne-… our new liege has a habit of massacring those he conquers. What assurances do we have that we will not share their fate even if we co-operate?”

”Our Employer is building a New World, Master Gerald. He would prefer living subjects to dead tools.” You never thought you’d be the one reciting cultist diatribe. Really the only reason you can’t blame these people for fleeing away from someone with the title ‘Necromancer’ is because similar threats loom in the North-West and South-West in the form of the Warlord and the Wild King.
You note the furrowing of Master Gerald’s brow at your use of the word ‘prefer’. Still, it’s better than what they were expecting. You take your leave as various junior attendants and NCOs hash out the specifics of curfew, prisoner release and travel permits. The satisfaction of everyone’s dead silence as you stand and walk out before the talk resumes almost overcomes the niggling concern over The Snake.

It used to be you got worked up over stuff like this. Some poor girl (or boy, some brothers and sisters aren’t picky) that didn’t hurt anybody, getting put through something like that for no good reason other than some men prefer cruelty to paying coin. But it’s happened too much, time and time again, for you to feel anything other the vague, tired distaste at the whole situation.

You know it was The Snake. The other two wretches may have had their fun, but there was always something cruel about the look in those fekking elven eyes. Doing that to her lips… now –that- makes you angry. That was because of you. Because you interfered. Maybe it was part of their way of scaring the victim from talking, or part of the sadistic fun, but deep down you know that hurting that girl like that was a way of showing insubordination.

And as an officer, naturally you just can’t fekking stand insubordination.

You have some time. You can hunt the perpetrator down immediately or wait until he shows up later today.

Cairsun. Wielder of the Morning Light, Breaker of Walls, Hero of Helmston. That muscled warrior-woman from last night called him the ‘Killer of Vin-Sherek’, ‘Betrayer of Wives and Murderer of Fathers’.

If even half the stuff they say about him is true then you’re talking to a man who has travelled the world and then some, leaving whispered stories in his wake everywhere. And if even a fraction of those stories are true, you’re looking at the sorriest bastard in the whole wide world. Though the identity of his true love change with the telling, from faithful baker’s daughter to exotic foreign princess, every story of his quest ends in failure, death and disgrace.
Most of the stories, the less morbid ones, include his death as well. But a few mention him travelling the earth as a soul lost to war, some even mention him joining a band of fallen warriors that fight for nothing worth loving. He takes the news of his promotion with apparent indifference as he feeds the falcon resting on his arm. When you mention part of his duties as a Knight-Taskmaster is to act as bodyguard he stops you.

”I will not take an oath. Never.”

”You don’t need to take an oath, comrade.” What’s with the obsession with oaths from these hero types? ”It’s just your job.
Cairsun nods, and smiles sadly at his pet bird.

”They say that the roses that now grow on Iskander’s Fields are so beautiful as to make men weep.” The living legend fixes you with the piercing eyes ever hero has in the songs. ”But I don’t weep. Do you?”

You’ve never been one to mope. Well, that’s not true. You’ve shed your own fair share of tears. Over women, over poorly-thought out wagers, over dead comrades. But your moping never lasted nearly as long as this tragic hero. Your outlook on the world is more cynical than dejected and hey, sometimes hitting things really hard does actually make stuff better in the short run.

“I cry for what's worth crying for, but Dark Father knows crying never got anyone anywhere. Try getting angry instead, soldier."
Cairsun regards you with his same forlorn look, something tells you he ran out of tears long ago. ”I tried anger. I tried it for so long I lost track of the seasons.”

You were expecting him to say something more. But the man just stands there. Eventually you shrug and take your leave, fairly certain he understands his role. At least he’s following you at a respectable distance. As you enter the Manor grounds you hear Trooper Saint’s voice out from the garden.

”So if I don’t have the right mark on the card, then I pick another one up?”

You see a deck of cards laid out and a few copper coins, pocket change to your men and a years wage for a Chevalisse serf. Sitting at a little garden table, playing in the fading sunlight, Trooper Kid is apparently teaching, as best as a mute can, the basics of Wendelt Fives.

”Oh! Lieutenant!” Trooper Saint blushes furiously as she scrambles to her feet, incongruously attempting to block your vision of the table. She looks like a young girl caught tasting her father’s hidden whisky.

You raise an eyebrow at the scene.

”Really? They never played cards in the Heigelen Guard?” From the wince on Saint’s face you realise you stepped on an obvious sore point. Or maybe they did play cards, but Saint was never invited. ”Anyway, it’s fine so long as the stakes don’t exceed one day’s pay. HEY.”

Trooper Kid sheepishly stops attempting to peek at Saint’s facedown cards while her back was turned. You give the androgynous scamp a severe frown.

”Gambling is fine, twerp. Cheating isn’t.” You shake your head, Kid is really taking to this skulduggery lifestyle far too naturally. ”I’m letting you off because you’re teaching Saint here but that’s it. Next time it’s a flogging.”

Trooper Kid grins and Trooper Saint ruffles their hair even as she tsk-tsk’s admonishingly.

”Hey. I mean it!”

Insubordination. Insubordination, everywhere!

You sit down and watch Saint fail miserably at cards, but your mind is elsewhere. You hear something about the new Grenn nearly biting Trooper Schuster’s face off in ‘training’ but it passes you by without comment. Without a word you stand up and stalk out of the Manor, intent of reducing the slime elf to a ruin before you have to stand next to him at Pietre Verdun’s cremation.

Behind you, Trooper Kid and Trooper Saint give each other a look before dropping their cards and following you out, Kid hopping as he fixes his greave up.

It doesn’t take you long to find them, not far from where they first cornered the girl. Not far from where better men than them fought and died a few hours ago. The culprit is standing with a mixture of Kreigstrom and Rangers, his back turned.

”SNAKE!” The hooded elf stiffens at your voice. ”Kreigstrom Knight-Vanguard ‘Snake’.”

They turn around, smile plastered over an insincere face with cold eyes.

”Lieutenant Prince, sir. How may I be of service?”

It’s been a while since anyone has declared a Blackguard challenge in earnest. And even longer since it was used as a means of discipline.

Just about to post when you said this. Okay, since you remembered. Trooper Saint notices with a start the dried stains of blood on your armour. You undergo her scolding as she washes out your wound. Trooper Kid rolls their eyes as they sew it up. Apparently their customisation of the Black Banner made good practice for basic stitching like this. It's still damn sore but at least infection is unlikely, and some rest will do you wonders.

You note that Saint didn't (or couldn't) use the famed Healing Hands everyone says the Heigelen Guard can do.

”You can serve me by listening the fek up, elf Again, that deep-seated an irrational hatred of the elven race that Saint has mentioned before. You address the growing crowd, mostly Company men but also a few townsfolk with peering out their windows due to curfew.

”I’m challenging you, ‘Snake’. This elf is a rapist.” You point at ‘The Snake’, smile evaporated. ”I’m challenging him because he’s a rapist. Because he mutilated a young girl for some sick pleasure. Because he disobeyed a direct fekking order doing it!”

You pause for effect, letting your Cloak of Command carry your voice throughout the entire yard.

”But most of all, I it’s because don’t like the way you fekking smirk at me you insubordinate fekwit.”

”I, Prince; Kreigstrom Lieutenant and Son of the Fallen Father, challenge you Snake to-OOF”

The elven fekker is on you before you realise it, his upraised foot finding the soft spot where your chestplate meets your belt. It shouldn’t surprise you that the little shit isn’t inclined to give the benefit of finishing the formalities if he can get the slightest advantaged from a low-blow.

Can I vote in advance, if it comes up can we make the duel to the death? We gave him his chance once already and he disobeyed orders. Not out of necessity, not for his comrades, and he had the idiocy to not only not cover up his crime but to make a fekking POINT of it, mutilating his victim just to seal the deal.

I guess I want us to cut his lips off and tell him that's for the girl. And to then cut his throat and say that's for mutiny.

Also see if we can get Saint to try and heal the girl. Even if her powers don't come back, trying is worth it. Also we can give her Snakes lips as evidence we spoke with him about the situation.

Kriegstrom 7th Platoon, 2nd Squad Blackguard 'The Snake'
[14/15 HP]

-------------------

You have active:
(1) Runestone Regen = +1 HP Per Combat Round (stacks with Unbreakable)
(2) Sword of Sovereignty = No DC penalty from first Order in combat round
(3) Cloak of Command = Unlimited Orders, penalty still applies, +1DC for each skill point in Officer

'The Snake' has active:
He’s Fast! = Damage of 5 or lower is treated as NO damage.
Death by 1000 Cuts = The Snake will -always- inflict 1-3 damage per combat round.

(1)Attack
> Use Sword of Sovereignty (+5 DC)
> Use Ajiyimad Pistol (+30DC)

In Snake's defence (can't believe I'm saying this) his insubordination has been fairly tame. The act of cutting the girls lips, while horrific, may not be interpreted by all as an act of cruelty AND disobedience.

If it was anything approaching actual mutiny or barefaced disobedience you could hold a Captain's Court in Kiranova's absence. 'White Bitch's suggestion of a challenge was to get around the lack of hard evidence that Snake was being an insubordinate little shit.

I mean, this is the Good End for my opinion. Through OVERWHELMING POWER with our fancy new sword and spooky armour we have resolved the issue.

Let's cut off his balls and go see the victim.

That's kinda weird.
>>

No, that might imply we only neutered the elf. Cut off his head, wrap a fekking bow around it, and drop it on the girl's sickbed.

Without taking off the helmet, say "JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED. ENJOY YOUR HEAD."
>>
>>928068
Nah, we gotta give the balls to the son of the Guards or whoever that scrub was.

We should get Saint to try her healing hands schtick on the chick.

Or, hey! She needs a new life, Saint has made a new life, let's recruit a lipless girl into replacing Snake and show her the wonderful wide world of aggressive self defense, by pre-emptively cutting the balls off every elf she meets.
>>
>>928065
Too overt, remember that we're killing him for insubordination not the rape

>The Snake has been flayed! [-11/15 HP]
>An Example Has Been Made! [7/7 Discipline]

-----------------
I feel that these posts are well in line with Prince's current predicament.

Also, this had to be done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6gGcrjDmec
-------------------------

He’s as fast as lightning, darting in and out of your reach with ease. His sword licks the front of your helm, the back of your leg, the gauntlet over your knuckles. A dozen times he lands touches that would declare him the winner of any practice bout. But your armour holds. In fact, you don’t feel a thing.

You stand there and laugh. A deep, booming laugh that echoes from your Blackthorn helm across the courtyard. Men feel a shiver in their spine at that laugh, suddenly aware that the sun has almost fully set and darkness approaches. This laugh isn’t your laugh, something else is laughing with you. The Snake takes a hesitant step back.

You move so suddenly that the elf doesn’t even register the vice-grip you have on his arm until he hears the bone snap. You've definitely torn the wound in your shoulder open, but you have the damn knife-ears now. Your sword licks out and a shoe goes flying, leg attached and all. The Snake screams, a long wailing howl that trails away into a pathetic whimper.

“Mercy… please…”

But there’s no mercy to be found with you. And you’re not nearly done yet.

….

Several minutes later you lean back on your sword, panting in exertion. The thrill of the kill has you exuberant. This can’t end here, surely there’s another. Surely one more kill won’t hurt.

”Fekking hell, Prince… is that still you in there?”

Sergeant ‘Bad Hand’ is staring at you, hand gripping his Zweihander tightly.

You see something in your comrades face you’ve never noticed before. Fear. Where the rambunctious ‘Bad Hand’ have faced down whole armies, towering behemoths and drooling ravenous deamons with a laugh now he’s afraid.

Afraid of his own friend. Afraid of you.
He’s not the only one. All around comrades fail to meet your gaze. Half-hearted mutters of ‘he had it coming’ and ‘Blackguards rule is different’ don’t quite match up to the…. ruin of a corpse that you’re standing over.

Part of it is me just not wanting the people to try to come to us for solving problems among themselves. Like, do you want to bother your new overlords with your petty problems and maybe come out of it missing something?

On the other hand, or whatever detached member, it shows the people that we're serious about enforcing the law.

You know, the promise that we JUST made? That will have "Consequences" if we avoid it?

Snake is dead, let's get some political expediency out of it.

On second thought, no need to morbid about this in front of the lass. Just have someone tell her the deed was done.
The elf gets buried in the ceremony with our former Taskmaster. Yes, yes, he was scum and a fekking elf, but he was *our* scum and *our* elf, and he died a *blackguard*.

Talk to Bad Hand in private, after the ceremony.

The point where he was asking for mercy was kind of the threshold.

Honestly I thought we would just kind of expect him to block a strike that would actually cleave through him or something, not go all "Fuck yourself".

It would be nice for us to get a doubles that was GOOD for us for once, instead of "Haha lol overpowered enemies" or "Haha lol evil taking over your mind."

I'm not trying to fek you over here, but you are maxing My Blood For His in every single fight.

At no point was there any major argument to spare the elf torture or death. You think you were going to cut his lips off mid-combat or something? The grim example will have good repercussions as well, but you're going down a pretty dark path.

Many of your comrades will act less familiar around you, and your relationships with some will suffer. But they will now always obey almost any order instantly. You will receive no backtalk from anyone except those most familiar to you.

Of all the Company Lieutenants, you will now be the most authoritative. And the most feared. This path leads to further advancement.
>>

I don't really mind the Evil part of it, it's the "Not our own will" that was getting to me.

I mean we already abandoned orphans and shit.

Still think we should at least get Saint to try and comfort the girl. Saint likes to do shit like that. And it will keep her from walking in on us and White Bitch.
>>
>>928138
Atlantic Ocean, probably.
>>
>>928131
On the other hand, trying to stop a rape, and later punishing the rapist, is about as "white knight" behavior as you can get.

Prince has listened to conscience too. He saved Kid. He saved Saint. Both times at some risk to himself. The townspeople of Kreden are being treated with mercy and professionalism.

The world is not a fair place, and Prince has never claimed to be a hero. Sometimes getting things done requires sacrifice. Sometimes justice involves getting our own hands dirty. None of that has to mean that Prince must turn into a monster.
>>
>>928144
Yeah, but Snake is dead and he left a problem behind to be dealt with.

Maybe we can compromise by asking the woman he raped if she wants to confirm his body before we bury him?
>>
>>928138
Haha, damn I was hoping to save this for later.
>>
>>928144
You'll also note that I'm saying we can be both monstrous AND good. Like how I'm also advocating getting Saint to go help out the girl that got maimed. Heck, we can even say that even if she can't heal their bodies she can still help heal their hearts, and make how the victim reacts to seeing DeadSnake a lesson.

>(1)
It was established again and again that we were more angry about the insubordination (and poor reflection on the company) than the rape and mutilation itself. Your actions here carried that over in the strongest way possible.

>(2)
Making dark deals with fell powers is surely one way of 'dirtying your hands' isn't it? Prince would almost certainly be dead if not for a few of those MBFH buffs.
>>
>>928150
Yep, and being evil (self-serving) does not make Prince a monster, or else almost everyone else around him are also monsters.
>>
>>928152
Officer material, right here.

>>928155
>or else everyone else around him are also monsters.

Ignoring the few that literally are monsters, you might be on to something him.
>>
>>928154
Fair enough about (1).

I thought MBFH was a deal with the Dark Father, being a blackguard power. And he is more "grumpy grandpa" rather than "prince of darkness" as far as deities go.
>>
>>928144
>None of that has to mean that Prince must turn into a monster

You're right, calling on the aid of the insane, tortured god bound within the center of the earth that even the Company demon doesn't know still likes humanity does not mean that Prince WILL become a monster... but it's certainly more likely. There's always a price for power.
>>
>>928154
I mean, we pointed out we found the rape and mutilation distasteful as well, but yeah the big problem is that the guy disobeyed us.

MBFH is also just one of those necessary trade offs as well.

Still, might not hurt to make a show of "Justice" to the townspeople. Or maybe make it less about us being Cops and more about us personally keeping our word to do something about it, and to keep our men under control - so long as we don't have any problems.
>>
>>928159
There is some theological debate on that point. Worship of him is outright outlawed and treated as heresy in Chevalisse. Neumunster is bit more 'meh' but it's still viewed with suspicion.

Even then the question is whether the Dark Father is insane AND now hates all life, or just insane BUT still wishes to protect this world from the other Elder Gods.

It's a thin, mentally scarring line.
>>
>>928160
Define "Monster" though. Inhuman in his thoughts and actions, sure, but we've already done more "evil" acts in clear mind and dirty conscience for the sake of survival/expediency.

I mean, I for one WAS advocating mutilating and then killing the dude after beating him. Arguably WORSE than just having a bloodrage go down.
>>
>>928154
>A Heart of Gold +1 choice gets voted for

> By brutally slaying one of those under my command in a duel after clearly overpowering and incapacitating him

Road to Hell, Good Intentions etc.

> I shall make Japan great again!

> By killing all the Chinese!

Sometimes meaning well just isn't enough.
>>
>>928171
No good deed goes unpunished something something.

But seriously, that was to beat him into submission. I didn't even suggest the killing or revenge-mutilation.

At no point did I post the words 'Elf Balls'. That was ALL you guys. And no Prince didn't go that far, he just messed the corpse up berserk style. But the votes were there.
>>
>>928171
And we're a worse person how? I'd say Prince would be a worse person if he had intentionally walked into the fight planning to torture the dude to death, like some anons were calling for.

I mean, the whole "losing yourself to the fragment of the Dark Father" is certainly worrying, but I don't see how it's morally worse than the other shit we've done/talked about doing.
>>
>>928131
HOLY SHIT WE'RE BECOMING KIRANOVA.
>>
>>928171
Then don't be a goody two shoes
>>
>>928178
Define "worse", I mean, I wouldn't say we were a GOOD person. I wouldn't say we did a BAD thing either by killing this dude.

We're just kind of a murderer with sociopathic tendencies who nonetheless still has some humanity left within him, who just experienced a psychotic break where even those left him and now he's a little shaken by it.

Maybe we should talk more to our new Guard, who we just advised to get angry and said he had been there before, about maybe how to control our anger.
>>
>>928177
Anons' hatred for elves is well known.

Maybe we should go easy on MBFH outside of critical situations.

“We’re done here. Have a work crew ready his body for cremation.”

Scum yes, but he was still one of you. There is a moment’s hesitation, then half dozen soldiers rush from the crowd to follow your orders. With the results of the duel, the task is more difficult than it sounds.

As you follow the procession later you suddenly feel very sick. Something is very wrong here.

You give your 2IC a worried glance and ask.
”I’m… what’s happening to me?”

Bad Hand frowns straight ahead. He doesn’t say a word.

The Blackguards have their own separate ceremony, apart from the rest of the Company. And the rest of the dead. When one becomes a Blackguard certain promises are made, debts that one does not renege on. The flames catch the bodies quickly, the fire leaping and dancing in the defiance of the growing dark.

On the right lies Pietre Verdun. His face still unblemished and looking like he could wake up any moment. On his chest a sword, some family blade you suspect, is clutched. On the left remains what is left of 'The Snake'. His body is mercifully covered in a shroud. Someone cared enough to provide a half-decent one apparently.

”Our Father, who dwells in the bowels of the Earth, terrible by your name...

There’s a visible gap between you and the few Blackguards from the Infantry contingent. Cairsun and Mask don’t seem to mind.

”In Life, pain. In Death, release. Every breath a prison sentence, every life ended emancipation.”

You never get over how morbid this shit is. The tragic-hero Cairsun gives you his same old sad smile. He says something about the Roses again, but you’re not really listening.

”But still Rage. Rage against the fates, the heavens and the laughing Gods. Rage against the unjust, the pain and the sorrow.

Mask shifts his weight, placing a skeletal gauntlet on your shoulder. It’s the most human thing you’ve ever seen him do.

”Rage not for hope of release, but Rage out of spite. Rage, rage against the dying light.”

By now the pyres are well alight, the bodies rapidly incinerating.

”Dark Father we commend these souls to the Below. To fight the war against your tormentors, and one day release you.

By the Weeping Saints it would be good to know that there was something to this. A point to it all. To know that there was an after, if it’s its literally more knife-work under a different cosmic employer. At least you’d understand that.

But of course you don’t –know-. Maybe Below is just like what the Chevalisse cardinals say, a prison for the damned. Sinful souls like yourself perhaps, even if you hadn’t made some blasted deal with the devil.

Perhaps eternal torment is all that awaits you after death. Or maybe it’s just mud and maggots, endless oblivion. Who the fek knows? Page #136 maybe, but that’s not a question he’s inclined to answer.

You don’t remember walking to the Manor from the courtyard, you only switch back on when you hear two raised voices inside as you open the door. It sounds like Corporal ‘White Bitch’ Tara and Sergeant ‘Bad Hand’.

“Over what? Some fekking cut girl and a stink-eye? He –murdered- the man. One of us!”

“Elf. And it was a duel, ‘Sergeant Fekwit’. I saw the whole thing, Snake struck first and then simply couldn’t hack it.”

“Oh bravo, excellent choice of words.”

“Look he’s obviously not himself, you know the Blackguard’s can get weird after a while.”

”Well then YOU fekking talk to him, Corporal. Because right now, I can’t stand the fekking sight of him! Find someone to drink and something to punch.”

”You mean something to drink and someone to punch?”

You hear a muffled slam of the door, followed by the fading words.

”Fek off, I said what I meant, ‘White Bitch’!”

Clearly Sergeant ‘Bad Hand’ isn’t in the mood to talk about whatever is going on right now. In fact, he’s gone a sight farther into insubordination, but it will pass. You’ve had enough of examples for now. ‘White Bitch’ is still muttering obscenities as she walks past and notices you standing there.

”Huh. Heard all that did you?”

You nod.

The CPL gives the same sort of sigh any decent NCO reserves for slow recruits.

”Look, Prince. No one is going to look at you the same way. You scared them, you freaked them the fekk out is what happened there.

‘White Bitch’ shrugs. She manages to put a lot of expression into her shrugs, that kind of don't-worry-about-it-keep-it-together-sir shrug takes a lot of practice.

”And I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Hell, I find it kind of hot. The men have to view their leaders as something ‘other’. You know the price of that one piece-of-shit elf’s life? No one under your command, Kreigstrom or otherwise, will EVER step out of line again unless they have a deathwish.”

She has a point. But there's something else at play here. 'Bad Hand' caught a glimpse of it earlier and it had him on the backfoot. Whatever worries a mad bastard like 'Bad Hand' automatically terrifies you.

Besides she'll probably leap at the chance to fix a broken man if it means she gets an opportunity to preach.

Pretty evenly split and no reason that you can't ask both so I'll write it up.

Good to see Prince puts bros and potential cosmic/possession/corruption/other before flirting.
>>
>>928267
Nah, get the Saint to be the one to deal with the townspeople. Either she helps them out and feels that she can still have good results even if it means using less than perfect means, or they treat her badly and drive her further into our group.

Especially when she sees that they're happy we killed Snake.

Do you guys have any ideas on how to deal with the old gang? The rank and file can fear and obey without question as much as they like but how do we even reassure our own squaddies? Prince is going to end up one fucked up person/avatar of the father if he is abandoned by his friends. A group hug is probably out of the question.
>>
>>928294
Drinking? Maybe with a punch or two, with the old gang or with someone else?

Maybe just continuing to be ourselves and talking to them about it like adults?
>>
>>928269
No, there’s something else going on here. That wasn’t normal." There's something wrong with you, you know it. And it hurts that your old friend is angry at you over it right than trying to help. You've faced down Albani Warmachines and daemonic spider-giants side by side but he refuses to be on your side for this. This isn't just an absence of a sergeant from an officer, it's the absence of a comrade. A friend. ”I thought I could rely on ‘Bad Hand’ in a time like this.”

You bury your hands in your face at the table while the CPL is busies herself unclasping the gauntlet from her sore arm with a wince.

”The Sarge doesn’t view the Company the same way you and I do, Prince.” ‘White Bitch’ sets her swordbelt down by the table.

”You know he was raised in the Company from a babe, right? Some whore who didn’t know who the father was, just that it was one of our lot. As far as he is concerned, the Company is –everything-. He couldn’t care less about some farmgirl or Snake acting uppity, as far as he’s concerned if you’re Company you get a free pass. No one else matters.”

She fixes you a hard glare as she undoes the straps of her chestplate, it lands on the floor with a clunk.

”You hurt the Company tonight, Prince. I know it was the right decision in the long run, but ‘Bad Hand’ doesn’t see that. All he sees is his brother hurting ‘the family’.

A grunt as one boot comes off, followed by the other.

”We’re not a fekking family. Far from it.”

A mail shirt rattles as she hangs it over a chair. The linen shirt that follows makes much less noise.

”But it’s the closest thing he’s ever had to one and he’s mad and hurting. Give him some space, he’ll come round. You’ll see. As for that other stuff?”

‘White Bitch’ Tara stands unabashedly in a doorway with a towel slung over her shoulder, and little else. She gives another dismissive shrug.

”I never believed in that rubbish. You’re no loon, not in the way you’re talking about at least.”

Maybe I am reading too much into it? Currently being ourselves means going from polite to hacking elves to pieces and then act as if everything is normal. Bad Hand the most hard ass in the company and old friend is avoiding us and act as if we're becoming a lunatic, I imagine the reaction is much worse from the relatively well adjusted. Even more so if they don't buy into the whole family business, in which case they have even less reason to believe we won't bear down on them over a slight.

Yes but… why are you naked?” It does seem like the sort of behaviour that begs an explanation.

”This place has a bath.” She as she turns around, giving you a full view of… well everything really. A firm, muscled body that is still very obviously a woman’s in all the right ways. You often found yourself wondering (more than was appropriate) whether she had a matching white-lock of hair in the tuft of hair downstairs. You have the answer now.
Your eyes are drawn to other parts of her body, from nipple to navel. Scars criss-cross both her arms and one of her legs. Some obviously inflicted in battle and others…

”Can you believe it, running water? And hot? I swear Neumunster is like the Albani for normal-sized people.”

“Bad Hand is one thing. But what about the others? How they took it.”

”Lieutenant. Some of them are fekking scared of you now, and some of them know that tree-shagging-pixie got exactly what was coming to him. I’m done talking about work, alright? I am a scarred, twisted woman who gets off on all the wrong things. I find the fact that you’re bleeding –right now- arousing, okay? So will you please stop beating around the fekking bush about this, I’m halfway between horny and pissed.”

”Right, but you see there’s all this paperwork and…”

‘White Bitch’ Tara narrows her eyes dangerously. It’s the exact kind of look that says:
‘I swear to the Saints if this is some elaborate fekking set-up I will kill you, now or in your sleep later.’

I think we should use the "we're a family" line with Bad Hand.

It's because we're family we had to do that, as his superior we told a younger brother to not do a thing that would put our family in a bad light. Not only he decided to do it anyway, but he did it to spite us.

If we've let that pass today there's no telling what another member of the family would do the next day.
It's not pretty, it sucks and yes, it was harsh, but that is what family do. He's got the right to sulk and be angry, but he must understand that as the most senior family it's your job to teach the younger kids not to be little shits and punish them when they acts up.

>but that was too harsh.

Strike three was being a proper, sneering asshole about it

That's one good reason for every severed limb, isn't it?
I wonder if Bad Hand would have been more pleased with the result if we had gotten shanked.

I don't think we went too far, he clearly deserved death, not because of the rape, hell I'd be happy to dock his pay for a month if he'd just raped the girl.
Once he decided to cut her lips and left her alive that was clearly a "fuck you" sent to us and that is where the death sentence is the only thing that would left Prince keep the respect of the other troopers.

You cannot let insubordination pass when you're a superior officer, it'll get you killed.

I'm just imagining that we start carrying White Bitch and then we start bleeding, then the beneath us cracks open and the dark father climbs out and subsumes our body.

White Bitch then knocks him down and has her way with him.

It ends with the Dark Father crying in a corner before deciding it's safer back in his hellish torture prison, while White Bitch smokes a cigarette.

>3 ‘Success’.

I’m not usually a fan of post-votes for MBFH, and in the future I will flat out ignore calls for it unless the rolls themselves had a vote for MBFH. This was pretty unanimous though. You sick feks.

Man, screw you guys. I had a plan for the next thread and everything. But it looks like now it will be “The Company Hangover: Satan’s Baby Edition” or something. Bugger it all. I need time to figure out exactly what this entails. I didn’t factor in MBFH, in your current condition, being used for this.

I hope you understand that you are waking up in need of immediate medical attention, and maybe not just you. Saint’s fekking wept, you’ve gone and done it lads. This will probably be worse than the [All of the Above] option on your history with Captain Kiranova.

Thread is archived and I’m calling it there. I’ll be around for a bit to answer any questions you might have. Or just to talk smack.

------------------------------------------------

”You know in the hubbub of all this duel business I’ve completely fallen behind on the requisition notices for those swords we acquired earlier.”

”Prince…”

”In fact I should probably catch up on that. Properly filed forms are the lifeblood of the Company, doncha know?”

”Prince.”

”While we’re at it, you could help out with a few of the notaries after you have your bath it should only take a couple of-“

The punch cracks your jaw in a way that leaves you wondering if she broke something. Before you know it her mouth is over yours, tongue darting inside and exploring your gums hungrily.

”I fekking hate you.” She growls, but she kisses you like she means it.

You don’t even mind the painful bite it turns into, her own petty revenge. The bath goes cold long before you ever make it halfway down the hallway, but who cares? You can always run another.

You remember pulling her up by her shoulder-blades at one point and then hitting your head or something. Or she hit your head with something. But after that everything went black…

Buddy I can tell you right now -that- certainly isn't happening. Leg/cosmis-shattering orgasms aside, White Bitch isn't the kind of girl to let good sex lead to emotionally healthy situations like actual relationships. At least not right now she isn't.

>This will probably be worse than the [All of the Above] option on your history with Captain Kiranova.

>>
>>928461
Did I say it was going to be a healthy actual relationship?

Have you ever seen a kitten?

I love this quest.
>>
>>928482
Aright so I figured out which route each chick is.

>Saint
Good route. Do good things to get closer to her. This is most likely the absolute most difficult mainly because this quest has become an unofficial no good deed goes unpunished quest.

>Kiranova
Neutral route. Doesnt care too much about good/evil deeds, but she does like Prince, and I think that as long as we don't use My Blood For His for a while to keep corruption down, and we don't fuck up on rolls to flirt as bad as before, we should be capable of this route.

>White Bitch
"Evil" route. Not necessarily evil, but definitely gets off on bad shit. Not a fan of killing, but when you are an S/M in both extremes, you probably can't help but enjoy watching someone do that. Depending on how fucked we are next session, we can probably still fuck the absolute shit our of her and she would love it.
>>
>>928493
And ASGORGA overhears all of it.

>>928520

>>
>>928523
Shit sorry forgot that one.

>Band Route
Best route possible. You get all the girls regardless of such meaningless things as moral choices. The war is meaningless to one such as you, all that matters is the next performance. The ending of this route is all peoples coming together to find joy in your music. Effectively, the world becomes one, and you and Bad Hand are Bill and Ted, on your excellent adventure.
>>
>>928528
I mean, isn't the way we're going still good for the band route?

Its just that we'll be much beer suited for death metal.
>>
>>928482
It wasn't selling our soul to have mind blowing sex.
It was selling our soul to get the devil laid.

Honestly, it's that so many options in this quest can easily be tweaked from normal-ish, to YOU DID WHAT?!
Yes, they often bite us in the ass, hard.
Like the legless Jenny one is the only one that's turned out fine so far.
But the actions, reactions, and eventual repercussions are all written to be incredible amounts of fun.

It's hard to not take them because they're just so enjoyable. Well, unless the consequences are like peopers we really like die, then it'll probably be a split vote.
>>
>>928461
>This will probably be worse than the [All of the Above] option on your history with Captain Kiranova.

That was one of our best decisions.
Even though it led to an extremely bad series of decisions that ended with us getting promoted.

This sort of shit just makes the quest so enjoyable.
>>
>>928461

So I might have missed something related to this, but...

We were given a +1 health regen stone by Trooper Kid.

It gives "+1 Health per combat turn". Even if it only counts when we're in combat (I saw no mention of that) we still should've regenerated some during the fight with knife-ears.

I thought the primary reason we took it to begin with was for regeneration between combat so we could use MBFH more...
>>
>>928601
We had a single combat turn.

That made us forget about that little perk almost immediately.

I just realised that may be the most literal 'fade to black' scene ever.

>>928601
As >>928612 pointed it only took a single round to brutalise The Snake. The only damage you took was from MBFH II and Snake's auto-damage of 1. The regen stone effectively cancelled the latter out.

MBFH II is no joke. It's put's you on another level. But, as discussed, there's a price for that power beyond HP points.

Ouch. Prince just can't catch a break.

Is there anybody else in the Company who can do the same Dark Father-ian semi-magic we do?

Captain Kiranova's own bodyguard Knight-Commander is at least there, even if they are more Rip-and-Tear than you. He's notorious for lethal challenges and 'friendly fire' in combat.

Other Blackguard's might have some ability (equivalent to the basic MBFH) but none of them actually speak the Black Tongue fluently or are as far along as you.

I blame the Japanese anons for this. Their fetish for cuckoldry by large menacing figures of dark complexion is well documented. I guess two nukes and a generation of young men watching their mothers being fucked by swarthy American GIs can seriously screw up the psyche of a country.

Personally, I figured y'all wanted to fuck worst girl so I just wanted to fuck with her.

I was also the person who said we should just get her to do paperwork last thread. So happy another anon ran with that.

Personally I want to get Saint her powers of Healing and shit back, and create a power block capacapable of opposing the Cult because they are Chaotic Stupid.

But being blessed by their God more than them is an acceptable second option.

For that we need to cut down daddies influence on us, I think.
>>
Great thread as always.

I binged on the archives and what a great quest. Im kinda bummed that the troopie sidequests were dropped without any development.

Gotta find an erhu for Mask.
>>
>>932573
Nah. We just need to give Saint the opportunity to believe in herself. I still say we should get her to help the rape victim.
>>
>>935265
At the rate we're going, I'm betting that Saint is gonna end up like Cairsun the Morning Light, all tired and deranged from being around evil for so long

Or stronger in the knowledge that good and evil are merely points of view, and what matters is your confidence in the righteousness of your own choices.

I'm fairly sure that's not what being a paladin is even about. Unless QM confirmed otherwise?
>>
>>935474
Oh look at the moral relativist over here.

>>934275
We did have one until the players decided to switch to something more common for the band.

It was confirmed that her powers came from her faith in herself and she could regain them without returning to the Church.

So >>935507 hey if it works . . .

> Have you tried not playing D&D

Although isn't that how Paladins work past 3.PF?
>>
>>936079
5e is 'a paladin must follow his oath', nothing about believing in your own self-righteousness. 4e was about having the same alignment as your chosen god; deviate from that and god's gonna cut you down.
