/qst/ - Quests

You are a villainous sorceress, once the greatest apprentice to your master, the court wizard of the strongest kingdom in the realm. Great were your ambitions, but greater were his. He promised you a place in his new kingdom once you helped him take over, and so the two of you began to plan. But then, he betrayed you! On the verge of being discovered for the nefarious schemer he is by the captain of the guard, he sold you out to the royal family and put all the blame on you for his twisted magic experiments, playing the innocent! Another ploy for this own gain, for now he is even more trusted, and you doubly villified!

Narrowly escaping execution into exile with only the barest of essentials, you now find yourself in the large woods to the north, alone and armed only with your potent magic. It won't be hard to survive with your power, but now you are the most-hunted individual in all the lands of the kingdom! Everyone will be looking to collect on your bounty. The fools! You may be selfish and greedy, but the true villain lies at the heart of the royal court, protected on all sides as he plots to take over from within!

But for how long? For now you seek to avenge yourself upon him! He will suffer for the indignity, the betrayal! He wants an enemy? You'll give him one! You need resources! You need expendable minions! You need a lair! YOU NEED REVENGE!
>>
You are a beautiful, fair-skinned, raven-haired and buxom woman of both human and elfish decent, enough from both bloodlines to be nigh-irresistible, and your revealing outfit is catered to this advantage. Your talent in magic is strong and growing stronger, matched only by your greed, self-centeredness and hunger for vengeance upon your former master. But you are no fool, you know well the cards you have been dealt. For now you will have to survive on your cunning, intellect and beauty to build up enough resources to strike back at him, for he is in a much greater position than you, with influence, protection and magical artifacts aplenty. But it won't save him once you get back on your feet.

What is your name?

Sirena Le Doux, or simply Sirena; an apt name for one so gifted with such enviable assets.

Now, for MAGIC!

Choose three of the following schools of magic to gain your starting spells for this story:

Abjuration - Spells that protect, block and banish all manner of magic.
Conjuration - Spells that create, summon and transport anything and everything.
Divination - Spells that see, reveal and foretell minds and future events.
Enchantment - Spells that enhance, strengthen and imbue items with magic.
Thralldom - Spells that control, enslave and break weak-willed subjects.
Evocation - Spells that destroy, disintegrate and deconstruct anything.
Illusion - Spells that trick, deceive and amaze with images and sounds.
Holy - Spells of goodness, positive energy and virtues most true.
Necromancy - Spells of reanimation, death and defiance of it.
Transmutation - Spells of changing, transforming and altering things.
Restoration - Spells of healing, curing and purifying the body.
Elementalism - Spells of fire, water, earth, wind and lightning.
Shamanism - Spells of spirits, rituals and communion with those passed on.
Druidry - Spells of plants, animals and the natural world.
Alchemy - Potions of all kinds are not exactly a school of magic, but close enough.

These are only starting spells. We will learn much more as time goes on and our character progresses. Eventually, we will come to master many different disciplines of magic!

I'll count multiple votes for same schools, feel free to discuss or ask me questions.

That's definitely a good set if we wanted a trickster who doesn't outright control people's minds with thralldom.

>>909144

A full-on necromancer could be fun, too -- plenty of evil to be had there.

>>909145

That certainly would be a potent combination, mastering the physical aspects of changing things.

>>909148

A good set to match with >>909144's theme.

>>909149
>>909153

Not bad.

Necromancy: 3 votes so far
Transmutation: 2 votes
Illusion: 3 votes so far.

I'll give it just a little bit longer for any backers or additional votes.

And I just want to point out that anything we don't pick up at the beginning CAN be picked up later; this is just for a starting skill set and initial specialization.

taking from >>909142 but replacing abjuration with thralldom so someone can go on the offensive even if we don't. i'm picturing brainwashing a grizzled soldier or something to be our right-hand man
>>
Don't know why so many people like illusion.
Illusion just seems really too dependent on the situation to me.
>>
>>909177
Its versatile and pairs well with stuff like necromancy, I figure.
>>
>>909180
Don't know how it should pair up with Necromancy
Explain please
>>
>>909175
Thralldom is inelegant. It is a far greater feat to break a man with words and images pulled straight from his deepest secrets than simply flay his mind with brute force.

Besides, Illusion is a perfectly viable school to go on the offensive with. Illusory pain can still cripple, and a mind is only as alive as it thinks it is.
>>
>>909177
I'm more confused as to why people don't like transmutation. You can turn things into other things, it's super versatile.
>>
>>909182
You could disguise your undead minions, which is handy in cases where being accompanied by skeletons would be a problem.
Generally being able to disguise your troops is a good thing.
>>
>>909182
Make zombies appear like people
>>
>>909170
>>909172

That makes:

Necromancy: 4
Transmutation: 2 votes
Illusion: 4
Thralldom: 2
Divination: 2

So let's go with Necromancy and Illusion, and then narrow it down:

Vote:
>Transmutation

Again, this is just a starting roster of spells. As we gather resources, we will learn more.

And as for the salty guy who didn't get his name picked, there's ONE more thing to decide on after this, and that's the artifact that our (not-so-heroic) hero stole when she fled her master's tower in the kingdom.

I know you don't know me or anything about me, so everything I say is to be taken at face value, but I plan for this to be a sandbox with random generation.

So, our starting spell set will be Necromancy, Thralldom and Transmutation. I'll post the spell list after our next (and LAST) bit of chargen.

If you didn't get what you wanted, don't worry, other spells are locked away in books and scrolls and items of power that we can find, or we can be taught from characters we meet! Or we can force them to teach us, we'll see.

Remember, it's not WHAT spells you use, it's HOW you use them that determines how good of a villain you are!

You are somewhere in the woods. The trees are tall and thick, the moon is shining fully, and you don't know how long you've been running. It seems pursuit is lost, for now. So many guards, so many dogs, so many miles behind you... But you're still alone, in exile, deep in the dark woods and villified to the entire country.

And just a little upset.

"Damn that Mordrax! I could have ruled the kingdom by myself if I had known he would betray me. Poison in his tea, a pillow over his face, and he would have been gone! Then I could have done anything. Seduced the crown prince, or the king -- hell, the princess if that's what it would take! The kingdom would have been mine for the taking! Well, just you wait, just you wait..."

You pause when you hear something nearby.

We're trained in Illusion AND Transmutation. Why didn't we just become someone else for a while instead of running like some common thief?

We've clearly got some ways to go on this.

Current list of spells:

>Thralldom
Lesser Charm: Cast this upon a single target to gain a bonus in all conversations as you appear more charming, charismatic and beautifully alluring. You don't actually physically change, you're just affecting the mind of the target to make them THINK you are more interesting.

Lesser Suggestion: Cast this upon a single target to implant a suggestion in their mind that they have difficulty arguing against. The more self-harmful it is, the easier it is to resist.

>Illusion
Minor Image: You can create images about the size of a man, of varrying complexity. These are merely illusions, and can be passed through with no harm or obstacle. You can cast this upon others or yourself to make them appear different than what they are, but the effect is purely visual.

Prestidigitation: Fancy tricks such as sparks, light, shapes of light and more that are harmless, but fun to look at or serve as a distraction.

>Necromancy
Lesser Reanimate: You can reanimate lesser corpses: animals, small things, children. These mindless, shuffling corpses follow extremely basic commands, but tend to be forgetful. Lasts until the undead figure is destroyed.

Command Dead: You can command dead creatures to a degree but not entirely. Pre-existing undead are subject to this, as are ones you reanimate yourself. You can implement more complex commands with this spell, allowing the cohesion of groups. The commands will stay for a longer period of time than normal.
>>
>>909288
Yes, but we were being chased by guards and dogs. If our master especially wanted to find us, he'd already have scryed on and teleported directly to us (or summoned us directly back to him). Which, I suppose, means that our present survival and escape is some necessary component in his future plans.

Or perhaps that we're both supremely intelligent wizards with no common sense.

ACTUAL list of spells:

>TRANSMUTATION
Cosmetic Change: You can cast this upon yourself or a willing target to change minor details about appearance: hair color, eye color, skin tone, freckles, etc. It can make someone who is old appear young, or the other way around, but is purely skin-deep. Over time, unless re-applied, it will fade and the natural appearance of the target will grow back.

Darkvision: Cast this upon yourself to gain the ability to see in the dark, even complete darkness, for a period of a few hours.

You hear a slamming noise, like that of a window or door. 'Perhaps a carriage door?' you think. 'Or someone's home?' Then it comes again, and again... repeating at odd intervals, seemingly random.

Having already cast your spell of Darkvision, you crouch low to the bushes and sneak closer to the noise. You peer through the trees and in the distance see a building that is dark, with no lights in any of its windows.

Investigating more closely reveals why: it is destroyed, its roof caved in and half its walls demolished -- and it isn't the only one!

You stumble upon a small village, about seven or so buildings. There may have been more at some point, but you can't be sure. Stones and other things lie scattered about because the entire place is destroyed, ransacked, pillaged and thoroughly left to rot. The buildings are all in terrible condition, but might make good shelter.

In the center of the village, a large oak tree stands, burnt to a crisp. Its trunk remains, as do some of its scorched branches. Whatever happened here happened some time ago; there aren't even corpses or fresh kills lying about. This town is old and dead.

The banging comes back, almost making you jump! It's nothing more than the wind causing the shutters of a window to open and close. Still, it drew you here, so perhaps you are lucky?

In the distance, a howl is heard. Not a dog's... a wolf's.

Perhaps not so lucky.

"What a fine place to have ended up," you mutter as you pick your way through the buildings. "One of the most promising pupils of Mordrax, hand-picked, one of the fairest in the land... sent running and hiding in the ruins of a forgotten village in the middle of the forest. What a--"

Suddenly, as you near one stone, a cat jumps atop it and hisses at you! But this is no normal cat, as you see with your darkvison -- half of its face and all of its body fat, along with most of its fur, is gone!

The undead kitty hisses at you. It is soon joined by several more of its undead kin, cats all. They stare at you with blank eyes or hollow eyesockets, mouths open, looking to feed.

You smile to yourself. What luck! Ready-made undead minions. With a wave of your hand and the casting of a simple spell of command, due to your knowledge of necromancy, it is a laughably trivial matter to take control of them.

The cats stop advancing and sit where they are, awaiting command.

"You didn't come about by accident, my little pretties. Take me to your master," you command the cats.

They all quickly turn and walk towards one of the buildings. This one is less destroyed than the rest, but no more distinctive. Had you not known better, you'd have walked by, assuming no one lived here.

You stroll into the home and find the cats encircling an old woman who sits on the floor. She has more lines on her face than cracks in the walls, and her eyes are milky white. Blind.

"Who goes there?" she whispers in a weak voice. "Who has come to visit?" Her shaking hands pet the dead cats around her, including one in her lap.

You tap a finger to your chin and think. 'She clearly knows nothing of current events. I could lie to her still, feed her another name, or remain anonymous. She is blind! She can't identify me, but I doubt anyone knows she is here.'

"Who are you, old one?"

"I have no name," she says with a cackle. "I did, once, but it has not been spoken of for many years! You may call me Elder Grey."

"What manner of mage are you? A witch? Necromancer?"

"I never cared for titles," she says, shaking her head. "Bah. Conjurer, evoker, diviner... I simply am!"

You smile. 'Not exactly an academic, this one.' You look at the cats. "And these cats are yours?"

"Yes, my lovelies, my beautiful lovelies," she says, feeling them with her hands as she pets them -- flesh, bone and all. She scratches the chin on one and it falls off.

"You reanimated them yourself, then?"

"I have always had them!" she insists. "Death finds them not, because I willed it so! They keep me company, keep me guarded from those awful children, bring me rats to eat."

"Well, Elder Grey, I am Sirena. I think we have much in common -- we know the same kinds of magic, don't we?"

"Yes, I can tell!" she says with a mostly-toothless grin. "My lovelies did not attack you. You must know what I know."

"Perhaps not all that you know," you say with a sly smile. "Perhaps you could teach me, hm? Some things I do not know?"

"I could, yes... I could," the old woman nods. "...If my lovelies approve!"

She leans down to her cats. One of them nibbles on her ear, which draws a curious look from you. After a moment, she leans back up. "Yes, they like you very much, and that means I like you very much! They have good eyes for these things, you know."

'What few eyes they have left among them,' you think with a smirk. "Before we move on, you mentioned something about children?"

Her face twists into a grimace. "Yes, the little devils! They come into my village, and throw rocks at my lovelies! They even kick them! No discipline, no respect!"

"They don't live here, do they?"

"No! Not far... a farm. Near the old mill, the lumber mill! The sons of the farmer. The old one tells them not to stray to my village, but they laugh! Call me hag, witch, vile names. They think it a game, and my lovelies monsters! Oh, what I could give to show them a true monster..."

"Perhaps I can do something about those children," you say, attempting to get in her good graces for the time being. "But later. For now, lessons, yes?"

"Yes," she nods, reaching for a candle. "Sometimes my pretties are hurt. Those nasty little devils break them. I can fix them, make them better again."

You look at one of the cats, which is clearly cobbled together from two cats. "Yes, I can see..."

"It is not difficult," she whispers, taking out a needle and thread. "Like sewing a blanket. I have quilted many a lovely in my time..."

"I do not doubt it."

She goes now into the ritual, showing you how it is done. You have studied similar principals of necromancy before, but this goes deeper, beyond the books. You have to admit, there is something refreshing about this form of learning, something tried and true.

'She's no Mordrax, but she knows a thing or two,' you admit to yourself. 'Still, definitely a step down. But in my position, I have little choice in who I learn from, so long as I learn.'

Movements of the hands, words of power, and, of course, dead flesh. As the night drags on, you learn quickly -- one of the things that made you such a good student was your excellent memory and aptitude to learn new spells -- and by the time the moon is at its peak you have learned your new spell.

>Necromancy
Corpse Stitch: You can sew a body back together, or parts of different bodies together, in preparation for reanimation. This can be done on a corpse or a reanimated subject, to repair or even enhance, but this ritual takes time and patience. Can only be used on one target at a time due to the focus it requires.

During your time with her, you learn of this place. It was once called Wineleah, and was a lovely little town, until it was ransacked by barbarians. Left to die, nobody ever returned to rebuild it, though she remained -- she was born here and plans to die here, always with her lovelies.

Eventually she goes off into the corner to sleep on a pile of hay with a tattered blanket. You yawn, feeling tired, hungry and sore from being on the run.

At least you doubt anyone will find you here.

'There must be SOMETHING useful in this town.' You prowl through a building, searching and finding rubbish. Building after building. Useless pile after useless pile.

In one building, however, you come across a bucket full of rolled-up parchments. You unravel and inspect them, finding them blank. Disappointing, but not useless. A student like you could always use parchments. You roll them back up and think. 'I'll need some ink, too. Might need to get creative with that.'

Not long after, the 'lovelies' return with prizes of their own which you inspect. One has a single dirty copper ring, nearly worthless. "Now, where did you get this?" you ask it, and it leads you to the back of the village.

Here you see an old graveyard, a rather small one full of unmarked graves. You smile and tap a finger to your lips. 'Umarked graves just means that they are free game and no one will miss them once empty.'

A skeletal hand sticks out of the ground. That, apparently, is where the ring came from. You lean down and lif the hand up, causing it to fall off of its joint. "Seems like death did you part," you smile.

Another lovely comes back with a fat mushroom in its mouth. Upon command, it leads you to a nearby field, full of mushrooms! "What luck," you say, bending over to pick one up. "Provided they are edible..."

As you bend over to pick up the mushroom, something falls out of your pocket. 'The coin!' you think. 'I had forgotten it!'

You pick it back up. It is covered in strange runes of a language you do not know, or perhaps it is not a language at all. Your knowledge of symbology is weak. But it was among Mordrax's collection. Is it valuable, you cannot say, but he owned it... and now it is yours.

Putting away the coin and deciding not to eat the mushrooms without experimenting first, or asking the old woman about them, you walk to the edge of the town and further on with the cats. To your delight, you come upon a tree of fruit. Apples, to be specific. Not in the most ready condition, but good enough. You pluck one and take a bite, relishing its juiciness.

You pick a few until you have a large armful, but then you hear a growling noise.

You turn around, and in your darkvision you see a creature approaching, sniffing the air. The creature is large, furred and has a snapping jaw. Not a bear, not a wolf, but a... wolverine.

A dire wolverine.

It growls again as it sniffs the air. It must smell you, you were running all day. But perhaps it cannot see you?

You bring an apple up to your chest and rub it on your bare skin, then under an arm just to be sure. You throw it away, making sure to cause some noise, which draws the attention of the animal. After a moment, it follows, giving you a chance to sneak back to the village.

You mentally note the direction the dire wolverine was in and sigh. 'Close. And me, with so little in the way of offensive magic... I need meat-shields, damnit. Minions. Not these cats...'

Well, with apples aplenty for the time being, you retire, munch on them and sleep, but not before commanding the cats to not gnaw on you in the night.

>Sleep...

The next morning, you wake up and stretch your arms. The old woman is up, tending to her cats.

Is Prestidigitation just visual only in this setting? Can Minor Illusion or Cosmetic Change be tied to objects? Do we automatically disbelieve our own illusions? How intact do corpses have to be for Lesser Reanimate, and what is our limit in terms of the number we can raise at once?

The greatest utility comes from spells when you know what their absolute limits are.

To begin with, we ought to have Cosmetic Changed our eyes, hair and facial structure hours ago to elude capture.

For now, I think just audio/visual. Smell and other complex things can come later. We know what our illusions are and we control them. Minor illusion can be cast on objects, cosmetic change is for living targets only. As for corpses, we cannot yet animate skeletons, so there needs to be something of a musculature remaining. As for a limit, let's say that it takes time and effort, which can exhaust someone, but let's have a nice hard cap of only reanimating one per hour at the moment. Once reanimated, they stay that way.

Generally speaking, while I'm basing this stuff on other works, it's looser and not as mechanically tight. I'll tweak it as we go. For now, I just work with the rule of common sense.

Bidding the woman farewell for the time being, you explore at her behest to the south east. You don't want to go too far south, lest you leave the forest and rejoin civilization, but to your delight you learn that you don't need to go too far to find what you are looking for: water. Clean water! A river, to be precise. After getting a quick drink, you decide to clean yourself of mud and less desirable things until your skin is immaculate once more, then put your clothes back on.

You hear noise further to the south. Investigating carefully, as it is no longer night, you come upon a lumber mill by the river. It has a water wheel and a bridge that spans the river, along with a farmhouse not far away. You carefully note all that you can see: some men, likely a patriarch and his brother, along with an elder son. You can't tell which man the son belongs to, the familiar resemblance is powerful.

They work hard, chopping wood, felling trees, dragging the timber and using the saw mill to make logs and workable pieces. 'Country men,' you think to yourself. 'Simple, no-nonsense.'

Children, then. Two young boys, playing with a chicken. Their mother chases after them, and they run away laughing. 'Those must be the 'little devils'. And their mother. Hm, and a sister...' You see the sister now, a lovely young woman with matching sandy brown hair as the rest of the family.

They are completely surrounded by the woods. News probably hasn't reached them yet about you. Still, perhaps it would be better to be cautious?

Why on earth would a simple farmer decide to harm a poor girl like ourselves?
We can even make up a nice little sob-story about a village burned by bandits/barbarians/nasties.

Well it would probably work if our clothes werent such high quality (I assume), so a scared and traumatized girl of some minor nobility from far away, victim of the same as above.

Why bring a heavy hand when we dont have to?
>>
>>910081
>Why on earth would a simple farmer decide to harm a poor girl like ourselves?
I'm not in the risk taking business if I have no reason to. Taking a bit of time to raise some minions and then come back costs us nothing, thus I see no reason not to do it.
>>
>>910040
>Don't approach them for now
Visual disguises only go so far.

>Generally speaking, while I'm basing this stuff on other works, it's looser and not as mechanically tight. I'll tweak it as we go. For now, I just work with the rule of common sense.
Fair enough. It's just that being vague on spell effects makes it harder to know when a particular spell is applicable for a given situation.

For instance, if there was no limit on reanimation, we could easily have a jar full of undead fire ants as a weapon. If Prestidigitation extended to smell and taste, we could use it to poison people. If Minor Illusion could be used to project the image of a contiguous area of blackness, that would be a massive boon in combat. And so on.

But if we walked into those situations thinking that we could do something when in actuality we couldn't, we'd probably be rather upset. Conversely, if our magic can do things we don't know about, we might end up passing over or fleeing from situations that, in your estimation, we ought to have easily managed.

I'd rather be able to have a fall-back plan if things go tits up.

I see a lot of reasons, first and foremost it screams ´'stories of necromancer, just like the one you're looking for". Secondly there are two kinds of paranoia, the healthy kind and the unhealthy kind.

Assuming a bunch of labourers will start stabbing pretty girls for no reason is definetly the latter.

If we want to interact with them at all it will be easy as fuck to work them.
Without making us a threat, and remember, anything we raise can only follow the very simplest of commands. "Wait here and come if I scream" is probably far to complex, so if something would go down, due to our own stupidity in that case, we would have to leave and fetch them. Which wouldnt do anything about your pitchforks and sharpened broom handles

'Hm... Best not to approach for now. There certainly is plenty to look at, though...' You subtly lick your lips. There is something nice and attractive about dull country-grown stock: well-built, doesn't think too hard, not very experienced in the wider world.

Still, you probably look a might bit too suspicious. Your cosmetic spell does not extend to creating new clothing, and though you could use illusionary magic to make yourself appear more plain, that only goes so far, especially if you are touched.

Best to find a new outfit, perhaps. Oh, but you so enjoy your revealing, tight, impractical leather outfit...

You observe the family for some more time. They have a dog -- that could complicate things. Best to keep away for now. The lovely daughter and handsome elder son go inside with the mother and two children while the men stay outside and talk about something. She is still certain they are brothers, but is not sure who the father of the family is yet; one is bearded, while the other is more clean-shaven.

You slip away, having satisfied your curiosity... for now.

"Goodness me, how ever did you get there?" you say aloud. There is a sign hanging from his neck: "Deserter"

You smile. "Not very loyal, were you? Perhaps I can fix that."

Less than an hour and some dragging later, you are back in town with a workable corpse and a new length of rope! That could come in handy. You finish getting him into town and sigh. After dragging him inside and getting him onto a table ('I really NEED minions!') you begin the work of stripping him. You leave him in all except his underwear.

Looking this way and that, you lift up the remaining fabric and take a peak. "Oh. That's a shame." You set it back down and pat him gently. "There, there. I understand."

You take a brief trip to fill up your new bucket with water, then come back to clean the body. Hopefully, none of the cats will find him.

You return to Elder Grey and sit down in front of her. "What can you tell me about bodies? Human bodies. I want to reanimate more than just cats and small corpses."

She cackles. "You need only practice. The spells are the same, it is a matter of knowing how to apply them. And you must have the will."

"I have incredible will!"

"You may, but you lack the understanding," she says. "I do not doubt that you will not give up, but one can have the will to bash their head against a rock all day and all they will get is a headache! Or end up dead." She cackles again as she strokes her cat. "You must know HOW to apply what you know to a greater form, you must understand how that form works and what you intend for it! Only then can you master it!"

"So, how? Practice?"

The old woman points in the corner of her room at a shovel. "Practice."

You head upstairs and sit back in front of her. "Do you know of any others? Witches, warlocks, necromancers? Other than you."

"These woods are home to many things!" she says weakly. "But... I know of one that you speak."

After another day of tireless work, refusing to give up despite a major setback at one point, you perservere and are rewarded with your very first minion!

He isn't pretty, he isn't symmetrical, but he is big, cobbled-together out of the best parts you had available (along with a few other things, like a box of rusty nails and a boot) and strong. When you feel the power infuse into his body, you open your eyes and become practically giddy with excitement as the figure lets out an earthy moan and sits up.

"Fantastic!" you cry, inspecting your work. He's a good foot taller than you are, and should serve nicely as dumb muscle. Perhaps as a side effect of your lack of knowledge, he cannot independently operate himself. You must command him to do everything he does, otherwise he will simply remain where he is or doing the last thing he was doing, whether it was following you, digging or simply standing.

"At least you won't wander off," you muse.

But with the experience you gained here, you feel that the next one will be even better.

>Spell Unlocked
>Greater Reanimate
You can now reanimate adult corpses and those of roughly adult size. Your power will allow you to maintain five corpses at a time, and they will follow extremely basic commands, but tend to be forgetful. There is no range to controlling them; they last until they are destroyed. It takes roughly ten to thirty minutes to reanimate a single corpse.

With this done, you finally have some decent protection. He will make a sufficient meatshield and battering ram.

Will you name him, or are you not the sentimental type?

I plan to avenge myself upon Mordrax and then -- who knows? Take over the kingdom? Rule my own empire? Become a new goddess of death? I know not! But for now I will focus on revenge, and when I look back on this moment, I will look back on it as when my quest TRULY began! What do you think of that, Boris?"

He stares at you, blankly.

"Good boy."

>Lunch update!

After taking a night to rest, you wake up and head out with Boris. You take time to wash yourself off in the river, you and Boris both head south along the river's edge towards the lumber mill. From a safe distance, you spend some time observing the family and noting their daily morning routine. They are a happy and productive family, each with their own set of chores that they accomplish in a swift and regimented order. From cooking, to cleaning, to tending to the small number of animals they have at the farm, they all do their part, even the small children.

You'll also notice someone who does not resemble the family, perhaps a hired hand or a family friend? He also participates in doing the morning chores. Whereas their hair is a sandy blonde his is a dark brown.

You also notice the patriarch speaking to his brother quite often. You are now very certain that the bearded one is the father. You cannot tell what exactly they are speaking about, but they are certainly worried about something due to the look on their faces. You cannot be certain if it is you they are worried about, as they have not seen you, but it is always possible that news of you and your escape into these woods may have reached them in the time that you were gone.

After commanding Boris to remain still on the ground and using a minor illusion to turn him into a bush, you then don your disguise as a simple woman, which consists of the simple and dirty clothing you took from the corpses along with your Cosmetics spell to make yourself appear slightly more plain. Your hair is made a lighter shade and you change your eyes; even if they have heard of the runaway sorceress, they will not be able to tell your true identity.

You pick your target: the daughter. She is a lovely young woman, clearly recently bloomed into adulthood, with a simple yet pretty face. Attractive, in that country way; she certainly couldn't hold a candle to the women at court but you don't really care about that right now. What is important is that you don't appear to be too beautiful, in order to make yourself more relatable to her and thus more easily trusted.

You notice her carrying a load of laundry out to the river in a basket. After checking to ensure that Boris is in a location that no one will accidentally stumble upon, you wait for the right moment and approach her as she works.

"Excuse me," you say to her, attempting as best you can to hide your Noble Highborn accent.

She looks up, surprised. "Who are you?"

"My name is..."

"...is Mary."

Her face seems to light up and she smiles. "Your name is Mary? My name is Merriam, but everyone just calls me Mary!"

'What luck,' you think. 'Of all the names I could have gone with, I chose the one she identifies with!'

"What are you doing here alone?" Merriam asks.

You put on your best sad face. "My home, it's... gone. Attacked! I... I think I may be alone, the only one..."

"Oh, no," she whispers, moving in to hold your hands. "Who was it? Those terrible goblins? The barbarians? It wasn't the dragon, was it?"

'Hmmm... There's quite a bit going on in this forest, it seems. More neighbors than I would have guessed.'

"I don't want to think of it! It's all so horrible!" You hug Merriam, easily scoring some more sympathy points. She hugs you back tightly and says, "Don't worry, Mary. It's safe here. Come, this way."

She takes you to her family and explains what happened. You are questioned very lightly about your home; you lie on the spot and remain vague.

"It must have been one of the communities to the northwest," the bearded father, Jon, says. "They live too damn close to the bad parts of the forest, and too close to the swamp."

He and his brother Jed own the mill. How father, Mark, lives with them. The young children, the boys Todd and Fred (or Toad and Frog, for they are always jumping around) are the only ones of their age. The dog is named Max. They are the Cutter family; how appropriate for their work.

You are fed good soup and given a warm blanket. The Elder son, Ben, is the one who hands you the bowl. A simple young man, hardy and strong; now that you are up close you can see what a fine young specimen he is, well-muscled and tall.

"Stop staring, Ben!" His mother, Jan, commands. "Go help your Uncle Jed!"

"Yes'm," he says, stealing one last glance at you before leaving.

You smile. 'He would be easy to wrap around my finger...'

"Do you have any family, dear?" the mother asks.

Well, ignoring the issues of necrophilia entirely, there's still the issue that the dick is essentially just muscle without any supporting bone. Without any blood going to it, it's just going to flop around uselessly. I'm more of the opinion that we should either go for living minions for hanky-panky, or learn how to make golems, then develop a golemized marital aid for our own use.

"I don't know what happened to them," you say, working up your best tears. "They... They... It all happened so fast, I... There were such screams!"

Merriam puts an arm around you as her mother holds your hand.

"There, there, it's all over now."

"I have nowhere to go," you whisper.

She takes the bait. "Well, you're welcome to stay for as long as you like, Mary." As Jan stands up, you notice a slight swell in her belly that you hadn't seen before from a distance -- she is with child, perhaps only by a few months.

'These country folk breed in large numbers. Good to know.'

"We should have someone take her to Bridge Town," Grandpa Mark says, sitting in the corner. "Where is she going to sleep? The barn with the animals?"

'Bridge Town,' you think and think hard. 'The name isn't familiar. Must not be notable.'

"We can use a spare blanket and let her stay in Merriem's room," Jan replies. "It's the sensible thing to do. What good will she find in Bridge Town? That place is a swindler's den."

"I can work around here, if you'd like," you say, though the idea revolts you. Working for OTHERS? But in your position, you must do what is needed.

Jan pats your wrist. "That's perfectly fine, dear. We have enough men around here for the heavier chores, but by all means you can feel free to help when you like."

You look up from the bowl. "What is Bridge Town?"

"A very cleverly-named place," Jan smirks as she sits back down. "Never heard of it? You really must be from up north, then. It's just downriver, by about a day. The town is built around a large bridge. It's a trading post, mostly, because the road running through it is a major trade route between the capital and the elves."

Your eyes widen. Now this is starting to sound familiar! Ever since the elves and the humans made peace a few generations back, when that human king and that elven queen bumped uglies and started the new line, trade has flourished between the two kingdoms. There are a few major trade routes, and one of them runs just along the eastern edge of the massive forest that separates their realms. Bridge Town must lie along this road.

"It's where we sell our logs and such," Merriam adds. "I sew dresses and blankets that I sell there sometimes."

"It's not place for a girl with no family, though," Jan points out. "Unless you're going elsewhere, staying in Bridge Town is a fast way to work the streets for money, used by men. Terrible thing for a girl like you."

"Yes, I wouldn't want that," you reply. While not completely above using your body to get what you want, professional prostitution is not on your list of things to end up doing. You are Sirena Le Doux, not some tavern wench or used brothel whore.

"And the mayor is a pig who cares only for money," Jan sneers. "He fosters the rivalry between our family and the Diggers."

"The Diggers?"

"Another farm," Merriam explains. "They own the local mine."

'Ah, of course they do,' you think, trying as hard as you can to keep from rolling your eyes. 'Diggers. These locals are so simple...'

"My father has a long history of fighting with their father," she goes on. "You see, there's this local well..."

Jan puts a hand on her arm. "Hush, dear. Let's not burden her with such matters; let your father worry about the Diggers. Mary, do you need anything? Clothes, a bath?"

'These folk are willing to give so much for nothing, the fools.'

"Thank you," you say again. You, who has feasted at the royal table at Mordrax's side, you who has tasted the finest wines and the most succulent of meats… are welcome at this simple country family’s table.

‘It’s a start.’

Less than an hour later, you are in Merriam's room with her, and she is brushing your hair. "You must have been outside for quite a while," she says, picking a leaf out of it.

"I was running for a long time, then didn't know where I ended up." You smile back over your shoulder. "I'm glad to have found this place, though."

"What might have found me?" you ask, curious about who else holds sway in these woods.

"There's dangerous things in these woods. Goblins, owlbears, wolves... and wild, awful men. It's dangerous to be alone, and unarmed. There's a guard tower not far from here, a forest post -- it keeps watch on things 'round these parts. We have a bell that we ring that reaches their ears."

'Guards. That could be a problem. But then again, they're just posted in some backwoods tower. But since the capital must know I fled into the forest, they could have been alerted... best to avoid any and all instances of running into guards.'

"You mentioned a dragon earlier?"

"Oh, that terrible lizard," she shakes her head. "He doesn't come this far south. A great green one he is, living in the Old Gate."

"The Old Gate?"

"Stories go that long ago there used to be a gate between the forest and the swamp. It was abandonned before we ever came here, smoked out they say. It's a temple, and that's where he lairs. Nobody knows too much about him or his servants. They say he likes pretty young girls," Merriam says with a shiver. "When I was a lass and misbehaved, Da would say the dragon would come and get me."

"Thank goodness that never happened," you smile.

She smiles back. "Hehe, that's true. You said you could read? I can read a little, too. Not much cause for it out here."

"I'm a quick learner. At least, I was before... my family..."

You have learned well to milk her for sympathy. She hugs you again, holding you close. "There, there, Mary. Maybe they'll come south if they're back?"

"I just fear so terribly that they're gone," you say as you hug her back. 'That's right, buy it, buy it...' "I'm so afraid I'll be alone forever now. I have no friends."

"I'll be your friend," she says warmly. "I promise."

"Thank you, Merriem! That means so much to me," you lie, but there is a small level of honesty in it; after all, you need friends at a time like now. 'Who knew making friends was this easy? I'm even starting to actually like her.'

"I don't have any women my age to be friends with," she admits. "You're the first."

"So, not a lot of farmers' daughters around, eh?"

"No, unfortunately. The Digger's have a little girl, but she's barely ten I think. They have plenty of nice young men though," she says with a blush.

"Who are these Diggers, and why was your mother so afraid to talk about them?"

Merriam looks at her closed door, just to be sure. "It's not my mother being afraid, she just is fed up with the situation. There's this well, see? It's a magic well, the water is said to cure things; make crops grow and help sick people get better. So the land the well is on is being fought over by my family and the Diggers. We have our mill, they have their mine, and our father and their father hate each other, so we compete. It's been like this for years..."

"Interesting..." You think as she resumes brushing your hair. 'A magic well? Rival families? A trading outpost? There may be opportunity here if the right person were to tip the scales of balance.'

"The only other farmers are in a small village further west of Bridge Town, out of the forest. It's sometimes dangerous living here, but we're closer to the trees, and the well."

"You said your families compete? To who?"

"The mayor, that pig... He technically owns the land, but whichever family pays him the most gets to use the well the most. It takes time to fill back up, so we can't use it all at once. The mayor takes his share of the magic well-water and whichever family is cushy with him gets their share, too. I don't doubt that he sells it at a high price in the town."

"You fancy him?"

"Well, I don't know... Maybe..." She giggles lightly.

In the later evening, you and Merriam walk around the farm. She shows you everything; the barn, the lumber mill, the guest quarters.

"Why won't I sleep in there?" you ask.

"It's occupied by our family friend," Merriem explains, pointing him out. You look over and see the four men hard at work; father Jon, uncle Jed, son Ben and friend Jonah.

'Awful lot of J's around here...' you note. "He's a family friend? Does he work for money?" You watch them as they hoist up a log and take it over to the saw, sweat glistening on their bodies, dirt caking their hard chests.

"He does take his share, yes. Keeps mostly to himself, but a decent man. Lost his wife and home to bandits, so I hear, but I never asked him about such things."

"I see..." You and she walk away for a short while. "I'm going to go handle some business," you tell her, and she gives you privacy, warning you not to go too far.

You then check on Boris. He's still there, lying still as a corpse, and disguised as bushes. You take a moment to redo the spells to make sure they last and then find a tree nearby to actually relieve yourself. Of all the lies you have told today, that's not one of them.

As you finish up and ready yourself, you head back and suddenly have a stone launched at you! It misses, hitting a tree. One of the little boys -- Toad or Frog, you can't tell -- runs away into the pushes, laughing.

'I see why the old woman doesn't like them,' you muse.

It's getting late. After a simple dinner, during which you occasionally catch the eldest son Ben staring at you (after which he immediately looks away or pretends he was looking at something else) you retire to bed.

Some pillows on the ground and a blanket are all they can muster up. But due to your earlier heart-to-mostly-heart, Merriam says, "If you like, you can take my bed, and I'll sleep on the floor."

You look at her bed. It could hold two people... if they were close together and comfortable being so. She has enough furs, blankets and pillows to certainly make the bed a more attractive option, but should you pursue it for yourself, or with her inside the sheets with you?

She's far from unattractive, but still, it may be too early to make such advances... it wouldn't be wise to press your luck.

Then again, you could have some fun.

"This isn't so bad..." you say, picking up the blanket. "But you know what would be better? If none of us had to sleep on the floor."

"Well, I only have the one bed," she says.

"Exactly. Let's just share!"

She blinks. "Well, you're not exactly my sister or anything..."

You reach over and take her hand. "You trust me, right?"

"...Well, sure I do," she replies honestly. She looks at your nightgown, borrowed from her own. "I didn't mean anything by it, it's just I'm not used to it, is all. Sharing."

"Ever had a sleepover?" She shakes her head. "It's fun! Come on, you'll see."

"O-okay." She crawls into the bed and you do the same, taking the blanket and pillows with you. She blows out the candle on her nightstand as you and she get settled in. Room is sparse, and so your legs touch. You take some initiative and pull her into a hug. Nothing complicated, just a simple embrace.

"Thanks for this," you whisper. "I really can't tell you how much I appreciate everything you and your family's done for me so far. I was worried I would be alone out there."

"It's nothing," she assures you, hugging you back. You can feel her heartbeat and her breath on your neck.

"It isn't," you whisper some more, snuggling close. You can tell she is getting nervous; that's alright. You decide to lay on the compliments a little harder. "You're one of the nicest people I've met, and you're wonderful in other ways, too."

"Aw, come on... I'm nothing special, now..."

"That's not true," you insist. "You're my friend, and that's very special to me."

You can feel your words working on her; she relaxes, followed by her leaning up and kissing you on the forehead. "Goodnight," she whispers in an excited tone.

'Yes... Even without using a single spell, I can work magic,' you think. 'This is going very well. Whether she is a pawn, a minion, expendable or something... more, I have done well for being on the run.'

As she falls asleep, you think hard about your next move. You're fairly certain that this family will trust you, so long as you don't rock the boat too hard... Merriam is in your pocket, this you can be sure of. Perhaps she will be enough for now, but you still hunger for revenge.

You must never forget: everything you do, every step you take, each breath you draw is in service towards killing Mordrax. Everything else is secondary, even what comes after. For now, you'll play your part, at least until better opportunity presents itself.

'Yes... I mustn't allow myself to get too distracted. Or attached...' You shift your arms slightly, feeling her back. As she sleeps, moonlight streams in through the window, illuminating her features. You stare at her for a while, feeling her leg rub gently against your own. The things you could do in this position... it is tempting.

'Pleasure of the flesh is sweet in the moment... but revenge will be sweeter.'

You close your eyes and sleep.

>Sleep...
>>
When morning comes, you hear heavy footsteps outside the door. Your eyes open to behold Merriam's sleeping face in the morning sun. The door rattles with a few knocks; it is her father outside. She wakes up.

"Girls, up and at it. Time for chores."

"Yes, da!" she says, quickly disentangling herself from you and blushing as she dresses.

You smile and dress in one of her borrowed dresses as well. It seems a nice day outside; slightly foggy.

Early chores are fairly simple. You quickly learn that life on the farm is nearly constant work, but your earlier observations from days previous gives you something of an edge! You know what some of their chores already are, and can anticipate their needs. Fetching eggs, laying out empty baskets, preparing candles, it's like you fit in already, alternating between helping your new friend and her mother.

Only you don't fit in, not truly. Inside, you really don't like this. You'd rather be studying new spells, plotting new ways to get revenge, creating more minions... but to fit in for the time being, you will take whatever steps need be taken.

As you round a corner, you nearly run into Ben. For a moment, his shirtless chest is all you see. "Oh, I'm sorry, excuse me," he quickly says, moving off.

You're no fool. He's hardly started working, and is already shirtless? In this morning fog? More like he wanted you to look and engineered this little run-in.

You smile. You rather admire that; it's a sign of him wanting your approval.

You head inside and help prepare breakfast, a simple yet filling meal. You eat with the others as the men chat.

"I'm headed into Bridge Town today," the father, Jon, announces. "We don't have a shipment ready, but I need to get word to a friend there."

"I could go," Jonah offers.

"I'd rather myself," Jon says. He looks at you. "Would you like to come along? Maybe someone you know is at Lake Town."

'That's precisely what I would like to avoid,' you think to yourself.

"I'll go," Ben immediately volunteers.

His father holds up a hand. "Hold it. Merriam, do you have any new quilts to sell?"

"Ben can come along, if that's alright," you say with a smile. The father seems to agree with you.

"I'd rather go with more things to sell," Merriam nods her agreement as well. Jonah shrugs and resumes eating.

Less than an hour later, and Ben and his father are saddling up the horses. You walk around the equine and approach the young man.

"It won't be a long ride," he says. "It's about a day's walk, but only an afternoon's ride. It'll be high noon when we get there!" He smiles.

"I hope the road won't be too bumpy," you reply as he climbs up. You take his hand and climb up behind him, sliding your arms around his waist. "Still, I had better hold on tight."

His father leads the way and the two horses and their riders leave the farm, heading southeast along the river. As you ride, you hold onto the young man. He's perhaps one or two years younger than you are, though easily a foot or so taller.

>every step you take, each breath you draw is in service towards killing Mordrax
On the road to Lake-Bridge Town you ponder the meaning of this phrase and slowly devise the ultimate plan for revenge.

You decide that by pursuing a simple and healthy lifestyle, you can increase your lifespan and overall quality of life. Meanwhile Mordrax will die of stress/old age/treason while you live happily with your new family. The best way to "devote every step and breath to killing him" is to devote every step and breath towards keeping yourself safe and happy while letting karma run its course.

"Well, I'll keep an eye on you while we're in Bridge Town," he says earnestly. "It can be not very safe for women there, so I'm told."

"You don't know how much I appreciate that. You're so thoughtful."

"Ah, yeah..." he smiles, slightly nervous. "I just thought you might not want to be alone, that's all."

You smile as you squeeze his chest slightly. "You must work so hard. Don't you ever relax? Have fun?"

"Sure I do," he swallows a nervous lump in his throat. "I like to go fishing, and hunt, and... I've thought about joining the guard, you know."

"You don't say..." you reply. 'He's not exactly the most interesting, but he's clearly interested. That's what's important. "Are you a good fighter?"

"I'm good enough to protect you," he says, trying to sound smooth. Cute, but slightly clueless, which is also somewhat cute. Still, best to play it up.

"Oh, I'm sure you are," you say without trying to sound sarcastic. "Please, stick close to me. I don't like being alone." Especially since you left Boris behind, but Ben will do for now.

As you speak with Ben, slipping in compliments and feeling his chest, his father suddenly calls for a halt. Both horses stop and you all look ahead and see a lone man in the road, wearing armor, with his back to you. He looks like a guard and you subtly hide half your face behind Ben's shoulder.

"Sir!" Jon calls out. "Sir, is everything alright?"

Slowly, the man turns. But he is no man at all -- or at least, not anymore. The undead night looks upon you three with dead eyes, then draws his sword.

Your eyes widen. 'An undead knight... what a fine work... whose is it?'

"Damn!" Jon says. "Quickly, around him!"

Ben makes to follow his father, but the knight is surprisingly swift for an undead. It slashes at his horse, missing but causing it to panic! Ben tries to control the horse but cannot -- perhaps it is the smell of the knight, but it rears up and you both fall off. The horse runs away.

The knight stares at you both. Ben quickly gets to his feet, taking out a hatchet from his belt. "Stay behind me, Mary!" he shouts, moving to stand between you and it. His father notices and turns around, making for you three.

You look around. There is no one else here -- no controller. You could command this undead with your spell, but you would have to be subtle about it... Your mind is torn between wanting to keep this potential minion and remaining seemingly innocent. Of course, that would be no concern if they were to both perish...

As the miller family comes to know and love you, you introduce them to ZOMBIE farmhands to help them expand their farm.
Grateful for your help, they decide to let you marry Ben and have Merriam as your secret lesbo lover and sometimes BISEXUAL threesomes
Finally you chose the TIGHTest LEATHER OUTFIT you can find to be your wedding dress, sparking a huge fashion trend that Merriam capitalizes on by selling leather dresses and lingerie, thrusting you and your new family into the lap of luxury.

The undead's sword clashes against Ben's hatchet! Despite his youthful strength, he is unable to overcome the undead knight's arm. Until, that is, his father rides up, taking out his own sword!

He shouts as he stabs the undead in the back from his horse. The undead stumbles slightly.

A plan forms in your mind. In that instant, you smile and come up with a scheme... a long-term scheme. Remove one chess piece from the board, embolden another... All while controlling the table.

After all, do chess pieces truly know who is picking them up, moving them and removing them?

You whisper your spell and wag your fingers. In the confusion of the fight, they can't possibly notice, and they don't. The undead is now under your control.

"Ben, look out! He's attacking your father!" you shout your command in the form of a warning.

The undead turns and hacks at the horse he rides, cutting its throat. The horse goes down kicking and the father rolls off.

Ben hacks at the armor with his hatchet. "Ben! He's going to knock you down!"

The undead swiftly smashes him in the face with the pommel of its sword. Ben falls back with a bloody nose.

"Jon! Get up, he's coming for you again!"

The undead turns to the father and their swords clash. You watch with rapt attention as you hold onto Ben, helping him up. "Go for his legs!" you shout, and the undead obeys. It cuts his father down onto one knee with a bright red slash on his other leg.

"NO!" Ben screams, running.

"Behind you," you whisper sharply. The undead turns and smashes him again in one smooth motion, knocking the young man completely off his feet. You look at Jon as he kneels and reaches for his sword. You look at Ben, seeing that he is knocked out. Then you look at the undead. "His throat. Do it!"

The knight looks upon Jon once, and then impales his throat with the blade. He withdraws it and faces you. "Run into the forest," you command the knight. "Find a rock and hide under it!"

The undead takes off running as best it can.

You run up to Ben and help him. "Ben! Oh, Ben, wake up!"

He slowly comes to. "Father... Father!" He looks around, seeing his slain father. "No, no, no, NO!" Scrambling over to the man, he holds his head against his chest. "FATHER!" He rears his head back and lets out a cry. "RRRAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!! FATHER!"

You embrace him from behind, holding tightly onto him. He is crying as he holds his dead father. It's good that he cannot see your face right now, nor its smile.

He reaches for his father's sword, and picks it up. Holding it aloft, you can almost see the gears turning in his head. "Father..." he mutters, making a solemn vow.

You hold onto his arm, allowing yourself to appear so intensely saddened by his plight.

Loading the corpse onto the horse, you walk the way home. He is mostly silent, and so you are as well, playing the supportive damsel.

"Oh Ben, what are we going to do? This is terrible..."

"We'll bury him," Ben replies, not looking at you. "And then I'm going to destroy every undead filth that walks out of its grave..."

"Ben..." you bury your face in his arm. "You can't. Your family..."

"They'll understand. We've been ignoring this problem for years... And it's not just the undead! Goblins, barbarians, monsters -- I'm going to take them all on!"

"You're angry, and confused. Let's just get you home."

Returning home is a sad occasion. The boys cry, as does Merriam. Jan weeps for her husband and their as-of-yet unborn yet orphaned child. You watch from nearby as Ben explains what happened to Jed, who covers his face and kneels alongside his brother. Jonah watches from nearby.

No one reacts in anger; even if the others had come, there is no chance that anything different may have happened. Merriam cries on your shoulder and you support her, holding her close. You're sure to remain emotionally strong, or at least give up the front of being so.

That evening, he is buried nearby. A simple burial, a simple headstone, everyone mostly silent. Now the issue of what comes next is at the dinner table.

"I won't allow it!" Jan says to Ben. "You're not leaving this house, not in this time!"

"I want to make a difference," he insists. "I want to do right by pa!"

"You'd do right by him by staying here and supporting your family!" his mother orders. That shuts him up, and he sits back. Jed, the now de-facto man of the house, takes her side.

"We need you here, Ben. If we can't keep up the mill, we'll lose the well to the Diggers. Your father wouldn't have wanted that."

He is silent.

"You should stay," you join their side. "Your family needs you. At least give it some time, Ben... Would your father want you to be this rash?" Ben's flustered state deflates somewhat, disarmed by you. He clearly is conflicted, but with everyone insisting he remain, he simply stands up and goes outside to vent, leaving his father's sword at the table.

Merriam stands up then and goes to her room to cry. You follow her, sitting with her on the bed and holding her, giving her a shoulder to cry on. She says many things, about not knowing what to do or what will come next, but you continue to console her all the same.

"Mary... is this how you felt? When you lost everything?"

"It hurt so terribly," you whisper, stroking her hair and hugging her. "So much, in so short a time..."

You stay with her for some time, eventually the two of you lie on her bed. Your shoulder is well soaked with her tears by now.

"I'm not good at this, Mary," she whispers. "Not like you. You took it better than I am."

"We're all different," you whisper back. "It's okay."

"I'm just so sad," she cries. "He was taken so early, I..."

"Shhh. I'm here. I'm here..." You hold her head against your chest as you keep yourself as something to focus on. "Pain gives us focus, Merriam... Nobody wants it, but we can use it. I know it hurts, now, but you can turn it into something great..."

She looks up, staring into your eyes. "What should I do?"

In this vulnerable state, she could be manipulated into all kinds of things. But what to do with her for now?

Alright, so idea, let's find ourselves a private space away from people and say "I am so sorry Mary, I haven't been entirely truthful. I was thrown out from my family just before the attack because they found out I had talent, magical talent, and that's why I didn't want to see if any of them had survived in Bridge Town. The talent relates to the dead. They couldn't abide having me under their roof and I just wanted so badly to go back to the way things were, to live on a farm and to love. But then this attack happened and I tried, I really tried Mary to take control of the knight, to prevent the attack. But I am not strong enough, I couldn't do it. I need a teacher to make it so that we can fight these things, so that something like this might never happen again to anyone and I want you to come with me, I cannot do it alone."

Just something to keep in mind folks; the best deceptions do not use falsehood.

For example, 'I know some magic', or 'I want to learn more, to accomplish what I feel so strongly about', or 'you are valuable to me', are all technically true.

The deception comes from the target deceiving themselves.

And when the deception is not a lie, it can also become reality.

That is the acme of deception.

"I don't quite understand..." she says.

"You know about magic, right?"

"Sure, in stories. But..."

"You can LEARN magic. From books, from things, from people. I know it naturally, maybe because I am part elf."

"What... what kind of magic?"

"A few different kinds... There are many schools of it, different practices. The magic of the elves, the magic of the druids, all sorts of things. I can do things related to the dead..."

Her eyes widen. "W-wha--"

"Shh. I wasn't responsible for what happened, Merriam, please believe me. But I wasn't strong enough to save your father, either." You lean closer, holding her cheeks. "But together, we could learn."

"I... I don't know..." she says softly. "My home, my family... Ben..."

"Ben should stay here, for now. Until your family gets on its feet. We could even find a way to use my magic to secure the well for your family; isn't that what you want?"

"We should leave, tonight," you tell her.

"Yes... I do..."

"Then gather as much as you can, in secret."

"But why can't I tell my family?"

"They would try to stop you, but you'll be alright. You'll have me, and I'll teach you magic while I learn. Understood?"

After a moment, she nods. "...Yes, I do Mary. But, Ben..."

"We will talk to Ben. He's the only one who would understand."

"Will we ever come back?"

"What we do is in service to your family. We're going to help them, and of course you will come back." You don't know how much of what you're telling her will end up true, but that doesn't matter now. Hell, she could die to a goblin's arrow and you'd bring her back as a corpse.

But that's slightly less preferable. Or is it? Corpses don't need to be fed.

She goes about getting things ready as you sneak outside. You find Ben skulking near the woods, talking to himself.

"It isn't fair. It isn't right! I should do something..."

"Perhaps you can," you tell him, and he whirls around.

"Mary? What are you doing out here?" he says in a softer tone.

"I'm taking your sister to go and learn magic with me."

"What?!"

"Shhh!" You look back at the house, confirming that nobody heard. You face him again. "I said, your sister and I are going to be mages. We're going to learn magic, and come back for you."

"Then let me come with you! I can protect you! I... I want to be an adventurer, a hero!"

"No, you... eager boy." You take a deep breath and lay on the bodily charm, giving him a smile. "I need you to stay here, Ben."

You lean up and silence him with a kiss, moaning into it as you do. You want to make it as convincing and alluring as possible. Predictably, he melts like butter in your hands, putting his arms around you as you tilt your head and lean into the kiss.

Inside, you feel a magical sensation building, tied to him somehow, and so you direct the natural flow of energy up to the connecting point: your lips. You have heard of this kind of spell before... many a vixen, siren and succubus have made use of it. And you just learned how to do it without even studying!

Who says you don't get anything out of practical experience?

If no suggestion is given, the effects will linger for a period of time, but eventually fade.

You pull back and smile at him. "Stay here, Ben. Wait for me to return with your sister, and you will be... greatly rewarded," you whisper into his ear.

"Y... yes... I will..." he swears.

"Good." You kiss him again, just for good measure. "Now, what are you going to do?"

"I'm going to wait for you..." he repeats. "And I'll be rewarded."

"Yes... You will. Do you want to know with that?"

You give him a pouty face as your hand gently strays between his legs, feeling what dwells there, painfully confined. His back straightens as you do this. "Sorry... maybe next time..."

"Ben!" Merriam calls as she runs over. He quickly gets his act together. "Ben... we're--"

"I know," he interrupts her. "You're leaving. I understand..." He looks at you, then at her. "Be safe, won't you both?"

You look at the supplies she gathered. The girl didn't pack well, but she grabbed some useful things. "We will," you promise him. The bother and sister hug tightly.

"I'm going to learn magic," she says to him. "And when I come back, we can avenge father... together."

"I'll be ready," he promises.

"You two finish up, I need to do something very quickly," you tell them. "Make your goodbyes important! I'll be back. Uh, relief and all that. You know!"

You get him up. "Go back to the town. Go to Elder Grey. Stay with her until I come get you."

The corpse understands the place of its birth. It begins walking in that direction, and so you hurry back to find brother and sister parting.

"Good luck, Merriam. I love you."

"I love you too, brother."

Ben gives you one last, longing look before heading back inside. You smile as you approach Merriam and put an arm around her shoulder, taking her into the woods.

"I promise you, Merriam, this is going to be an adventure. Don't worry."

"I-if you say so, Mary. But... it's going to be dark soon..."

"I have magic," you say, holding up a hand and casting a bit of light. Her eyes widen in wonder. 'So easily impressed...' "So don't worry. I can take us where ever we need to go. Speaking of which, tell me about some of the places around here...

I like your quest a lot QM.

Just found this. Not gonna lie, I'm super psyched to be the unrepentant villain for once.

So anons, how hard do you think it will be to 'discover' that Mordrax is responsible for the undead who 'attacked' us. Hell, it might not even be a lie, all things told.

Us having a 'affinity' for the dead will play into that. And as long as we show ourselves to be 'learning' our spells, we should be able to allay suspicion. It even gives us an excuse to kill other necromancers and steal their knowledge, because clearly we would never work with such disgusting refuse!

From there the epic tale of heroism practically writes itself.
>>
>>914473
I don't think blaming Mordrax is the way to go. Why would the most powerful wizard in the land have a random skeleton warrior wandering around some isolated woods killing peasants?
>>
>>914585
the undead could be leavings from experiments or stray members of an undead army he's building.
>>
>>914585
Kill drone hunting for us because we're a loose end and he can't be arsed to leave court?
>>
>>914603
The difficulty there lies in how much about our past we want to reveal. If we want to let Mirriam know that we're actually from the king's court it should be soon, but it shouldn't be too difficult to convince her that we were a bright eyes prospective apprentice who was then framed for all of Mordax misdoings when we started to 'figure out' his experiments.
>>
>>914603
Yeah, but then we'd have to change our story to Marriam again. So it would work but we'd have to wait a while and she still wouldn't trust us as much.
>>
>Build up a hero to slay Mordrax
>Be his constant companion and lover
>After slaying the evil wizard reveal we were the evil mastermind all along
>The Hero, dismayed at our sudden betrayal, decides he must 'vanquish' us

I'm swooning.
>>
>>914634
What we have to do then is make her understand that we were afraid because we were on the run. After she grows to trust us a bit more we can explain that, and add in how we feel responsible because we failed to stop Mordax. Granted it would be more drawn out than this, with a suitable amount of 'evidence' to back up our clams. We don't even have to say the skell was after us, just that it was probably one of his stray experiments.
>"Before he caught me I caught a glimpse of this and much worse"

It's a risky gambit, but if we build up her loyalty and amazement enough at us, then we should be able to pull it off given proper timing. The difficulty with that then lies with Ben, but since he's already head over heels for us, the details can be glossed over with appropriate applications of kisses and sex.
>>
One thing I've been wondering about is the viability of necromancy when facing other necromancers. Twice now we've been able to take control over other's creations and we're still untrained. If we plan on facing other trained powerful necromancers we'll need to have something other than corpses that can be taken over in the blink of an eye.
>>
>>914658
That's pretty crafty. I like it. You make an excellent evil vixen
>>
>>914675
Presumable those with higher levels of autonomy will be harder to subvert. Futhermore, each undead that we've taken control of was functioning outside of the presence or direct control of its/their master(s).

Though, becoming a sort of 'anti-necromancer' certainly has some appeal. It meshes well with our new heroic image, if we choose that route. Having more elegant undead of our own (taken only from the corpses of fallen evil foes of course, so that they may make amends for their past deeds) is still on the table.

>That's pretty crafty. I like it. You make an excellent evil vixen

Like I said, this plotline practically writes itself.
The only thing we need to do is find a suitably magical sword with some light or fire connotation and we have our own little hero party prepped and ready to go. It certainly doesn't hurt that we have an actual villain waiting to be exposed.
Honestly if Mordax attempts his coup it just makes our job easier and our cause more legitmate.

>Quick update before work:

Deciding that it would be better to downplay lights (due to the danger of being seen) and instead use Darkvision, you take a moment to cast it upon yourself and Merriam. "Stay still," you say to her.

She blinks, her eyes adjusting instantly to the dark. "Mary... I can't believe it! I can see in shadows and the dark, like it's all lit by the moon!"

"Just one of my simple tricks," you say with a smile. "Stay close to me. We can see in the dark, but not many other things can. This will allow us to move much more safely."

She takes your hand just to be safe. "I'm just so unsure... So much has happened... My father, and you, and leaving..."

"I know, I know. But sometimes these things happen. You find yourself having to run from everything you thought you knew and your plans of the future, your home and you're all alone..."

Her voice is sympathetic. "You really do understand, don't you?"

You look back with a smile. "More than you know."

After a while, you stop in a shaded place and take stock of her supplies.

She grabbed a blanket, some bread, some candles, some flint and steel for firestarting, a waterskin, a lantern, a hatchet and a single bedroll.

Not a bad start, but...

"You only grabbed one bedroll, Merriam."

"I couldn't find any others," she admits sheepishly.

"That's alright, we'll share it, like last night."

"R-right..."

Btw I came up with an idea:
We do have transmutation magic and are able to create undead from sewn up corpses
So how about we create some undead knights by stuffing muscle and some sensory organs into armor, transmute the flesh so it works like a human body and the armor will work as an exoskeleton. Essentially creating the Knights from resident evil 4.
Heck, we could even try to create some biological tools to help us creating better undead.
Or we make a more intelligent zombie, hive him precise fingers and more arms and get us a flesh weaver
>>
Here is a question. Do we still have the undead knight that murdered the dad under our control?
>>
>>915163
IIRC, the MC can control up to five undead creatures at this time, without any limit on range.

With your keen sight in the darkness, you quickly find a good place to sleep in the form of a cave. You both sneak up to it and peer inside; thankfully it is not very deep and is uninhabited. After clearing some space to make a comfortable surface on which to lie, you and Merriam bust out the blanket and sleeping roll.

"Mary," she says as you get ready for sleep. "I'm afraid."

"Of what?"

"It's just the two of us, and I don't know any magic yet. What if something happens?"

"I can protect us. I'm good at surviving bad situations. I survived my home, I survived the undead when it ran away, I even encountered a large beast in these woods and was able to distract it by throwing an apple and escaping. Just lucky, I suppose." You scoot over and hug her. "Stick around me, and you'll be lucky, too."

'Luck... Yes, I have been rather fortunate, haven't I?' you think, reflecting on your thus-far successes. 'Finding Elder Grey, then the success I've had in resurrection, and of course my manipulation of her family and the events... stumbling upon that undead knight... It all seems so convenient, now that I think about it. Could it be the coin? Or, perhaps, this is all just coincidence...'

Merriam buries her face in your shoulder. "I'm just so scared," she admits, holding onto you tightly. You are fast becoming her rock, a stable base to cling to. She is coming to support on you and your judgment more than ever; now that you are alone, you are all she has. "I've never left home without my father, or my brother... I... I think I want to go home."

"We just left," you say, rocking her back and forth, speaking soothingly and encouragingly. "Won't you at least give it a chance? Give me a chance?"

"I want to. Part of me does, truly... But I'm still so sad about my father... and what if something happens to us? What if something happens to my family? The farm, my ma, my brothers..."

'Such simple and small matters,' you think as you hold her shivering body. 'But it's all she's ever known. I suppose she cannot be blamed for not looking at the bigger picture, especially since she can only see it through such a small lens... the lens of her view on the world, and the lens I have allowed her to look through.'

"Shhh," you calmly whisper. "We live in a hard world, Merriam. Sometimes, terrible things happen. Those who are weak stay weak when they do, but those who are strong become stronger when faced with such things. You must become strong, Merriam. WE must become strong, and so must your brother. But more than that, you must trust in him to protect your family. You must trust in me to do the same for you, because I will."

You brush the hair out of her pretty face and stare deeply into her eyes. "Do you trust me, Merriam?"

"I... I do, Mary, of course I do..."

"Then trust me now," you whisper, leaning in close. "Trust me..." She hesitates when your face draws close, putting up a second's worth of protest -- before your lips meet in a soft, tender and loving kiss. Closing your eyes and focusing, you feel her resistance fade as you begin to work your magic. This spell is not like the others; some require verbal words of power or motions of the hand. This one requires but a connection with someone -- in this case a willing kiss -- and soon, like her brother before her, she is powerless to resist you. This strange sensation is new to her, foreign, but not unpleasant. In fact, the more you apply the magic, the more she gives in, until all protest is gone.

You pull away. "You enjoy this, don't you?"

She nods, as though in a dull haze. "Yes..."

"You want more, don't you?"

"Yes, Mary..."

"And you trust me more than anyone, isn't that right?"

"Of course..."

"Good girl," you whisper before kissing her again. She tilts her head and gives off a light moan as you brazenly deepen it, tongues dancing against each other. Inside, you feel a thrill unlike any you've ever felt before! Manipulating both brother and sister in such a way, how lurid! The power you feel, to be the one in complete control, gives you a rush of satisfaction, a high of monstrous proportion! The fact that they are not undead adds to the appeal; it is one thing to control something that cannot think for itself, but to have so firmly gained control over something that can...

But you must control yourself. You pull away from her, and are delighted when she tries to follow, wanting more. You put up a hand to stop her.

"More later," you tell her, and her impressionable mind obeys. "Sleep for now."

"Yes," she whispers. You both crawl into the sleeping roll and snuggle close. She looks at you as your bodies entwine in the tight confines. "I've never felt like this before... I mean, with a boy, sure, but you and I are..."

"It's perfectly natural," you assure her, and she immediately trusts and believes you. "Don't worry about a thing. You can trust me."

As the two of you are about to sleep, a noise rings out throughout the woods in the darkness. Merriam holds you tight; it sounded like an axe chop.

You listen, but do not hear another.

"Stay still and quiet," you whisper. You raise a hand and cast a minor illusion over your bodies; you are close enough that you can both be concealed by the fake rocks you create.

You remain still and control your breathing. Merriam is afraid, but does the same. Outside, you hear footsteps growing nearer with each step, nearer abs nearer and nearer... they sound heavy.

Then a pause. The moment is tense, and Merriam shakes.

Then more steps, growing further away now. Eventually, they cannot be heard any longer. Merriam sighs in relief, and soon she is soundly asleep. You follow not long afterwards.

>Sleep...

Come morning, you and Merriam pack up and get on the move. She is shy, perhaps because of the new development in your relationship, and doesn't say much. She seems to have stopped questioning coming with you, which is good. A quick check that the coast is clear and you're ready to go.

I'm using a series of random generators I have saved on my computer. Depending on which one I use (they vary from serious to silly) high or low might be good or bad.

Here's the thing: when I ask for a random event/encounter, it's random. High or low, good or bad, these things are irrelevent with these generators (SOMEtimes. Some may be organized in a higher/lower fashion, but I always tend to switch which one I use). Sometimes I like to combine results if they mesh well together.

We haven't gotten into much of a fight yet, but when we are in combat, higher = better.

After walking for quite some time, you spy the river again. While it wouldn't be the hardest thing in the world to cross, it is rather wide and occasionally deep in some places. A bridge would be preferable.

However, the first bridge you come upon has a single man standing upon it, wearing a dark cloak and a tricorn hat. He notices you from a distance before you notice him, so there's little point in trying to hide.

You tell Merriam to stay behind you and let you handle the talking. You approach the bridge and the man bows his head. "A fine day to you, ladies." He opens his cloak as he bows, purposefully showing a hilted sword as he does. He straightens back up and smiles above his high collar. "I'm terribly afraid that there is a toll upon this bridge, and you are faced with its collector. I assure you, the price isn't too high, merely a few coins." He looks you up and down with a roguish smile. "Of course, we could always work out a discount..."

You smile and work up somee charm. "Might I ask who you work for? Or are you just an independant opportunist?"

He smiles and holds out gloved hands. "I must confess, my beautiful lass, I am far from alone. This river from the south up to this bridge is now under the control of Captian Treca of the Azure Serpent, a glorious river-ship. Rest assured that you will not offend if our reputation does not precede us -- we are rather new in the region."

"You seem quite bold to announce who you work for," you say. "What if we have guards accompanying us?"

He wags a finger. "Methinks you don't. But no matter; my only charge is this bridge. So long as you remain on your side of it, you will be unharmed on my honor and the honor of my captain. Try to pass without paying, however... and then things will get a little messy."

You narrow your eyes and look around. He seems to be alone, but that could only be a ruse. One man extracting a toll does seem rather simple to bypass, so there must be more going on...

>>

>>
>>915446
What's your hardon with giving the girl away already? She trusts us, but the kiss doesn't make her our slave. If you have a cuck fetish there's plenty of threads on other boards.
>>
>>915446
Sicknesses. We don't want those on our slaves/thralls. To costly to treat, too impairing.
>>
It's literally called evil quest, either you kill the guy or give something that he wants
>>
>>915449
>>915451
It isn't called Nice Sorceress Quest. Acting based on your own morals rather than the character's is completely nonsensical, why are you even here?
>>
>>915456
There's a difference from being Evil and from being a sadistic asshole. Whoring a friend out for a handful of coins is a super dick move. Just cause we're evil, doesn't mean we have to be stupid evil.
>>
>>915445

On that specific note, I've been meaning to draft something related to our main character's sexuality:

She is selfish. Right from the OP, this is a core character trait, and that extends to her sexuality. She wants to RECEIVE pleasure, not GIVE pleasure. If she's going to use her body, she's going to want something out of it, be it pleasure or some greater purpose.

While not entirely above certain things, like say blowing a dude, such an act doesn't really give her pleasure. She would only agree to it if the benefit far outweighed what is, in her eyes, demeaning and degrading. Sucking a dude off, titjobs, etc., these are things the other person enjoys and are more like work, and as established, she doesn't like to do work herself.

tl;dr: if she's going to fuck, she's going to want to receive equal or greater than what she gives.
>>
>>915456
It's caled being pragmatic. Why just alienate her already? She's potentially a valuable asset. Scare her off already and we're back to square 1.
>>
>>915456
I'm not about values
I just think we haven't influenced her enough to use her for such things
An obedient follower is pretty valuable since we only have her at the moment
>>
>>915462
This is my thought process as well. Morals nothing, it's just wasteful to use her on this. We're more clever than that.
>>
>>915458
That doesn't mean we can't convince our new friend to suck him off. Letting him fuck either of us is horseshit. Just crossing a bridge isn't worth getting a dick in you. Not about morals, simply not an even trade.
>>
>>915457
Our sole purpose in live is to learn more magic and kill that fat old wizard, everything else comes secondary
>>
>>915467
Literally every main character has a sole purpose. That doesn't stop them from doing side quests and picking up new companions.
>>
>>915420
>>915426
>>915442
>>915443

I'll need to get back to work (lunch is over) but when I return we'll be going with an attempted Magical Kiss.
>>
>>915467
that does nothing to argue against anons point.

We are already doing evil shit for our own sake, we have proven to be a scheming bitch who gets off on the idea of manipulating people.

Telling the person we have been working to go randomly whore herself out to the first guy we meet, after saying that we'l keep her safe.

Well suffice to say that it would utterly alienate her, and her brother as she'd go running back home crying.

Give the bastard a kiss, enjoy the fact that we can wrap people around our finger that easily and move on.
>>
>>915460
>>915462
>>915465
Asking her to do some unspecified sexual service for some guy won't necessarily scare her off if we frame it the right way, and as long as we can get to the necromancer guy it'll be worth it either way. Sure, she has the potential to be useful in other ways, but so did bringing Boris instead, and so does using her like this to meet the necromancer. Some people may not be playing this pragmatically but I'm not one of them.
>>
>>915484
The thing is, I don't see what having her sex him will achieve, that a kiss from us won't. Just kiss him. It's faster and has less chance of failure. If we ask her to sex him and she says "ew, no" and goes home, we still have to kiss him and we're down a meat shield.
>>
>>915458
How old is our mc anyway? How experienced in sex? Ever had a man?
>>
>>915484
Whoring her out when we have other more expedient options is not being pragmatic. It's being wasteful and capricious. Yes she may not immediately run away, but that would still damage the rapport we're trying to build and make Mirriam less useful in the future. Just using her up and throwing her away doesn't do us any favors in the long run.

You don't get a return on investment if you don't put in te effort to maintain it.
>>
>>915495
Well if the kiss doesn't work then I hope you'll be ready to use her as the backup plan
>>
>>915495
The way I'm reading it, our kiss requires certain prerequisites that may or may not be meet-able in this case. It isn't a completely retarded option like what others were proposing, but from my perspective still seems less reliable. I don't think having her abandon us and walk through the scary woods back home is a reasonable fear unless we just stand there like an autist and watch her go.
>>915501
Knowing when to diversify, sell out of, or abandon an investment is practically the definition of pragmatism.
>>
>>915512
Yes, and I'm saything that is not the time to diversify, sell out, or abandon this investment.

Why? We have just picked Mirriam up. Currently we know very little about her final value. Will she even be able to perform magic on a high enough level? However, her current value arises from her loyalty to us and her connection to her brother.

Neither of these things are of great value in and of themselves, beyond the potential they have for the future. Ben and Mirriam are quite nearly wrapped around our finger, this is worth something. It is certainly worth more than crossing a bridge, especially when it is far from our only option.

Deciding to 'diversify' as you put it, here, has the potential to lock us out of potential gains in the future. Now, we do not know if there will be said gains with Ben and Mirriam, but at the very least we should take steps to discover if this investment is worth keeping, or if it's value is minimal enough to be traded for something as small as this.
>>
>>915512
Well you're failing at the concept of risk vs reward.

We've put a good few days emotionally leashing the girl to us, and the process is not yet complete. I'd agree to whoring her out if we had her further along in our pocket, but as it stands, we'd lose her for fucking nothing.

This statement is VERY true for a reason. They guy arguing to rape Mirriam is very chaotic stupid.
>>
>>915520
>>915525
I guess I can see the disconnect now. You think that it's likely to cause her to abandon us here, whereas I suspect the opposite. In either event, the vote is already over so there's no real point arguing about it.
>>
>>915527
Just once I want to see a smart villian, who's not afraid to be 'nice' or to keep her 'promises', as long as it is in line with her goals and advances her power.
>>
>>915535

For the record I am entirely on board with that if people push for it
>>
>>915535
That, my friend, is called Lawful Evil. And it is my favorite alignment to play. You can still be a greedy, scheming prick, but you aren't a complete asshole and you have some sense of honor. Not only does it give you a high horse, but it allows people to actually trust you once and a while.
>>
>>915531
I think the disconnect here is that you think forcing her to whore out her body to a highway man won't cause her to leave or at the very least irreparably damage our standing with her.

Trust does not survive the absolute betrayal thereof. We -just- promised to keep her safe. Telling her to let this man has his way with her is not keeping her safe.

Now, I'd have no problem with, say, selling her body for an alliance with a demon lord, or even for advanced lessons in magic. Should sacrificing her and her brother grant us infinite cosmic power, I'd be all over that.

But, nigga, this is a fucking -bridge- man. The reward is no where near worth the level of risk, as minuscule as it might be. Furthermore, it's the height of capriciousness to take this action when we know that it would undo much if not all of the progress we made with her just last night.

Not to mention that rape victims are usually not quick to be physically intimate with people. If you want a more selfish reason, I doubt that 'Mary' is all that willing to share her future conquests. Would you want to sleep with a girl who'd been used by a common brigand?

I certainly wouldn't. I can't imagine anyone with the pride our character shows would even consider it.

This is what i've been arguing the entire time. I have no problem whoring the woman out, but I do have a problem whoring her out to cover a fucking toll. Certainly not an equal trade, with us losing by a long shot.

>>
how hard would it be to conjure a light source right in the assholes face and steal his sword?

>>
>>915565
>One man extracting a toll does seem rather simple to bypass, so there must be more going on...
>>
>>915565
seems more risky than just doing the kiss. If the guy'd any good we'll never get his sword before he stabs us.

And as of yet we have no white mage, so that's something we need to avoid.
>>
Fair enough, but I do hope people won't hesitate if the necromancer wants Merry as the prize for his teaching
>>
>>915571
Assuming we can trust the dude. Unless he's a White Necromancer, we're going to have to take everything he says with a grain of salt.
>>
>>915571
IF Marry is able to learn magic (fast enough to be useful) then that won't be my first choice. If it turns out she's unable I'd be down for it as long as we can ensure (or at least reasonably trust) that he's keeping his word.
>>
>>915576
Just demand getting taught some basic spells first before handing her over
>>
>>915571
No problem.
If that doesn't mean in a ritual sacrifice way. then we'll just get a new thrall for that, after all the leverage we get through her on her brother and through him on their family is very useful. We can always fall back to that hideout, always count on small support from there. As long as we don't have evil minions and a tentacle in every town, we will need that.

I don't think Sirena is the type of person to suck a random guy off for something as minimal as this. If the kiss doesn't work we just won't cross the bridge I think.

We need to 'learn' zombie magic first, preferably on acceptable targets, to get Mirriam used to the idea. That shouldn't be too difficult, the body's of dead animals would be a good place to start.

You hook him with a sly smile and saunter up to him, swaying your hips in an enticing manner. "I'm afraid I don't have any coins on me, good sir," you say in a flirty tone, "but I'm sure we could come to another arrangement."

He seems all too pleased with that. He pulls down his collar and says, "I like the way you think, sweetheart. C'mere."

Despite his initial charisma, once you get up close you see he's really nothing special. His breath is rather terrible, too, which distracts you slightly as you kiss him. He's also got very little tact, as his hands go right for your ass to grab two generous handfuls of your ample cheeks. Merriam gasps and puts her hand over her mouth, but doesn't say anything.

You focus on pumping the magic up into your lips. The kiss is willing, so he meets the criteria, and soon enough he loses his aggressive nature and seems more confused. He leans back and you wipe your lips. "Now, I'm sure that was good enough for a toll, wasn't it?"

"Why... I think so," he nods. Your smile widens; the easily-swayed fool. "But my mates are gonna..."

"You'll make an excuse," you reply. "We'll pay the toll proper when we come back. We won't be long. You want to see me again, don't you?"

He nods with a dull smile. "Whatever you say, lady."

You look back. "Come along, Merriam!" She quickly runs up behind you and the two of you walk off past the man and onto the other side of the river. "See? That wasn't so bad, was it?"

"How did you do that?" she asks. "Did you... use magic?"

You wave a hand. "Men are so easily swayed when you know what to say and do."

"Oh, that's a relief," she smiles. "I'm glad you know what you're doing, Mary. I was worried one of us would have to..."

"Nonsense," you reply, pulling her close and kissing her cheek. "Not for a bridge toll."

She smiles and nods, sighing in relief, failing to realize the implication of that sentence; while you wouldn't sell her for something as trival as crossing a bridge, the idea of using her in such a way for a much greater gain is far from off the table.

The two of you move on, and in the distance, you start to see signs of what you are looking for...

I'll make a new thread shortly. I'm going to make a character pastebin with our spells and current items.

Well, this was an unexpected surprise! I started this quest on a whim, struck by sudden inspiration to play with a villain main character. I was frustrated with another, non-quest related writing project, and this isn't the quest I usually run.

I usually operate under the trip of Damashi, and I run Mortal Kombat Konquest, like at >>893032

My Twitter: https://twitter.com/DamashiKonquest

Partially why I started this off without a name and just a trip. I wish that person who jumped the gun in archiving the thread wouldn't have had "Veejay" as a tag, but that's not a big deal.

I wanted to see if this would take off, and it seems like it did, so I'm more than happy to continue it. I'm having fun with it and it seems like a lot of you are, too.

I don't feel like I have a problem running another quest; I've been thinking of switching on and off for a while now with something else and this quest could do nicely for that. I won't drop one completely, but I might do them on a bi-weekly thing, switching from one to the next.

I'm not asking you at all to follow my other quest if it's not your thing; I consider that one a more narrative-driven episodic thing, and this one a sandbox. If you don't want to follow my twitter for updates, since I will put out updates for MKK when it comes out, you can join a discord chat I just set up. I'll put updates for this quest in there exclusively.

Discord Invite Link for this quest: https://discord.gg/HBz5u9v

Anyway, new thread coming shortly!
