The world is at war! A year ago the Holy Pantheonic Empire and its allies invaded the Kingdom of Ezirin. Things spiralled out of control with most of the continent's nations entering war. The last thing we did was ask Father-Mountain, the mighty Earth Titan, for aid - to make the earth itself defeat the Zhongi invaders. That, indeed, he has accomplished - but at a heavy price. As the earth swallowed a hundred thousand Zhongi soldiers, the very continent shook apart - volcanos erupted, landslides destroyed cities and mountain passes alike.
Our army stands, shaken. (Wait until the next post for options)

>>
The Plague and the subsequent Zhongian-Paitran war for Roggar affected the lives of many, among whom were the Lectre family. A set of nobles from Dragonstomb with a slightly sketchy background and somewhat... peculiar tastes, their businesses fell apart piece by piece as the Zhongian army occupied the city. Eventually, they paid to be smuggled from the city and fled, walking for miles before stumbling on the charred ruins of Riverhugger. Settling down for the night, they realised this was to be their new home. Not knowing the old name of the village, they gave it their own: Starling.

Having built up their new home successfully (as well as surviving an ecounter with a being of the Vast), William Lectre passed away peacefully at home, secure in the knowledge that the future was bright.

One of his sons, Chilton, ruled the town in his place and made efforts to connect with the elite of Roggar. In addition, thanks to talks with a centaur clan based within the kingdom, the Lectre family now owns the only public carriage business around.

Of course, things never stay so good for long. One of Chilton's sons, Anthony, spent years as a mere troublemaker, getting drunk and harassing people. After one particular journey, he returned home speaking of strange places and sights, telling his father all he knew. The next night, he tried to take the life of his brother, Mikkel.

Mikkel, enraged by the assault in the presence of his wife Runhild of Erden, brutally killed Anthony for the attack and disposed of the corpse. He himself disappeared after insulting the pantheon at a celebration hosted by the emperor.

His son, Dancy, now rules.

The norse are trapped between Frostfang hordes and Paitran armies.
The Zhongi remnants in Virinum have recieved reinforcements and are regrouping.
The black orcs have gained ground in southern Ezirin and their forces are strong and with high morale. The Mighty has gotten the minotaurs and the Ice Dragon back on his side and has kicked the Paitrans out of his land - it looks like the Mighty's hordes will face those of Geramakh.

The Southsea Alliance has taken several Zhongi islands and has destroyed much of the Zhongi fleet.
It's summer of 522. What should we do?

The snows were falling heavily in the year's last month - our tired legions, together with Paitran forces, met the norsemen on the field of battle and lost. It appears the men of Anglanorse are desperate, having abandoned their homeland entirely - a massive migration, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people, is headed southwards.
At the same time Paitras has had to deal with barbarians in the south - minotaurs have been raiding their lands, entire villages are destroyed or empty.
It's now the first month of 523. We've lost almost 80% of the troops we sent to Paitras - the norse have taken Archeport and all the lands east of it. The high elves and dwarves have withdrawn from the war. Food shortages in parts of Roggar are causing trouble as crime has risen, the collapse of much of our infrastructure is making trade hard and the winter is heavy.

Furthermore, we must accept that many will die due to starvation. If we use our soldiers to gather up all the available food in the countryside we'll atleast be able to decide who lives and who dies.

We've withdrawn the 3000 surviving legionnaires.
In Roggar currently the capital lies in ruins, infrastructure is in shambles, our treasury is drained and crime is high. Many militiamen, returning to their villages from the war, turned to banditry and theft - to provide for themselves and their families. Neighbours fight each other for scraps of bread.

You do well to vigorously improve the state of agriculture in our Kingdom and manage to attract some halflings to the Fork, which now has another small river, a result of the mountain's movement. Muttvile has also been chosen as the acting capital of Roggar.

Across Roggar, royal food shipments are prioritizing rural areas. This has prompted riots in the cities and larger towns, which are reliant on food imports. With harsh crackdowns from the Guard, the riots are squashed. Many urban dwellers are forced to leave the cities and look for a living in villages and hamlets. Schools are abandoned as children and teachers alike are needed on the fields.

Paitras, now standing alone, is struggling to defend itself against the Anglanorse coming in from the Landbridge, but that's not all - minotaurs, green orcs, ogres and humans of Ezirin are invading northwards into Paitras as black orcs stream into southern Ezirin.
Zhongian is facing economic troubles on a smaller scale than us, but they're only getting worse as Drezvak has joined the Southsea Alliance against the Zhongian Empire.

With their devastating loss of numbers and the sword of Juras during the war the Knights of Juras thought to turn to the state to replenish their order.
Their answer was a resounding no.
What few brothers remain bury the thousands of dead before gathering in the Grand Chapter house in Barnabus' Rest.
Their decision was a harsh but forced one. They would set aside their armor and become simple monks and priests.

The funeral of Balor Hawthorne was a grim affair. Very few actually stood in attendance - not out of people being denied entrance, but most nobles didn't care about the son of a demon dying. They didn't even have a body, so they just lay his prized possessions to rest.

A priest came and said a few words - after all, Balor fought for the Pantheonic black orcs. This was followed by two speeches. Barnaby's was as follows.

"Balor - you were my maddest son, and not one to shy away from a fight. Alas, we parted harshly. I shouldn't have begrudged your wishes - then again, they landed you in a coffin. For what it's worth, I'm sorry."

Soon after came Scathach's speech.

"Well fuck. I expected you to go out in a fight, but I didn't expect ya to get keeled by a bunch of fucking orcs. *visibly tearing up* Well, you weren't the best da in the world, but you were mine."

And with that, Balor was lain to rest within the Catacombs of the Madmen, a funeral site within Thornebush. Around his grave were planted poppies, and his epitaph read -

"Balor of the Evil Eye, Balor, first of the Fomorians."

Barnaby payed attention to his son despite the madness... and the Fomorians would be the physical embodiment of his son's legacy. That is, if it could even be done.

All efforts are put on feeding our people.

In 525 Emperor Rabolep Ondalan escaped captivity and made his way to the Imperial Capital. He secured peace between Ezirin and the Empire. The norse migration south continues. The largest wave moves like an army - probably because it is composed of the survivors of the Anglanorse armies, primarily. They've taken numerous cities from Paitras. Smaller waves have sought refuge in the Pantheonic lands - the halfling kingdom is welcoming them - the halflings are not facing economic troubles like the other nations at the moment.

With that I'll leave you for the night, we'll continue tomorrow
>>
>>877208
Well, my islands were attacked during the war - I will accept refugees.

If any are willing, they would be most welcome in Thornebush. While it's a longer journey, they would be near halfling lands.
>>
>>877208
No.
Only some of the few good-looking lasses that the inbred Norse have to serve as concubines.
>>
>>877208
No Norse allowed here. Send them back to the north.
>>
>>877208
"I'm close enough they can stop by the shore and walk to my lands I can take maybe a few thousand if they are willing to fight for their new homee if the accept my deal."
''I'll try and find some of the former Anglanorse soldiers and officers to find out just what the hell is going on up there."
>>
>>877208
As long as you don't cause trouble and promise to accept me as your lord, aye.

Refugees are welcome in Nayte. Hellsflame could use a couple houses, former soldiers would be put to good use, and skilled craftsmen are always valuable. I could use a couple ships to start up a navy as well.

(Night Civ, fun session today, despite my salt)
>>
>>877208
Yes to refugees and Randalf told me he will also accept to refugees.
>>
>>877208
Sure I guess

I need some extra livestock
>>
>>877208
Yes
You are welcomed in my lands kinsmen.
Trolls are disgusting creatures as the book of Ledevlast written by Cassius the 9th says.
>>
>>877208
I will also allow any Norseman with a ship/ships to settle on my lands, and pay them handsomely for their services.
Raiding the Zhong is very profitable, I must say.

While I lack territory by the sea I will still accept refugees that make their way to my lands.
I can always use some more soldiers, workers, craftsmen and farmers in the fields.
Furthermore, their loyalty will be only to me and not to those wrinkled old councilors who constantly complain about my gallant leadership of the order. That alone is reason enough to accept their warbands into my service.

>>877232
7 - the first wave of refugees settled on Kerguelen, where they soon went mad and entered a berserk rage, slaughtering all others on the island. The current state of that isle is unknown to you.
>>877250
93 - 2000 warriors and their families arrived in the Citadel.
>>877264
97 - A dozen longships and several small transport boats, led by an old naval commander from Anglanorse, arrived in Hellsflame, some heading down towards Hell's Crusade, Venice and Firsthold. Two thousand norse warriors have settled on your lands and some have expressed a desire to raid the Zhongi.
>>877283
39 - several hundred refugee families settled in your fishing villages, where conflicts have erupted between them and the locals who not long ago had been victims of raids.
>>877283
71 - Gregariport and Gregaridock recieve 5000 refugees.
>>878624
32 - about 3000 norsemen came to your lands - they settled in Tholach and have created their own part of town. There's been some troubles between them and the locals.

"Well, no matter! We all know why we are here lads, so lets get the pleasantries out of the way and get to work!"

A slow, but steady recovery for our economy; Zhongian's sea trade is crippled and signs of internal strife show; Geramakh has sacked Ezirin, the Kingdom burns, as the centaurs have once again attacked The Mighty; Paitras has allowed more norsemen to enter in exchange for protecting the border - a significant portion of Paitran army and naval forces at this moment are norsemen(with something similar being observed in Roggar, by the way).

News from the West

The Selaven, are now in a vulnerable position
It appears they are at war with the big Empire to the west. (Fishtits strike back)
And the Yuleyas still old god worshippers
>>
A&B

In the north, a new King of Anglanorse has risen - the High Jarl of Ozlakmar, Dans Ozlak has made the norsemen gather their forces once more and strike back at Frostfang. The Lightsteel dwarves, who had been on the side of Frostfang, were allowed to pass through Anglanorse and have taken up their own fight against the Kingdom of Kragnaal. The norse have retaken part of their lost territory and for now Frostfang seems to be kept at bay.
The Kingdom of Ezirin appears to be crumbling.

On the home front, we've invested a lot in rebuilding our roads and our capital. Progress is underway.

Military reforms - We are facing tough times economically and politically and may have to adapt. Vote on each matter
1.Legion size:
A.Lower
B.Keep the current(5000)
C.Increase
2.Equipment - outfitting our current forces is very expensive and resource-consuming, especially heavy infantry and heavy cavalry
A.Keep the current equipment - we'll make up with quality for our lack of quantity!
B.Aim to find a balanced solution - abandon the most expensive types of armor for instance
C.Adopt to the times - armor is an expensive luxury, should be reserved for the best
3.Change legion composition:
A.Keep the current system(Legions are based on their role, not race)
B.Fully mixed and equal legions like before
C.Race/culture based legions
4.Balance of power between the Royal Army and the factions
A.Raise the amount of troops a faction can sustain
B.Reduce the amount of troops a faction
C.Keep the current cap(5k)
5.Financing royal troops
A.The Crown will take care of all expenses(current system)
B.The Crown will provide every soldier with their initial training and equipment, but it is their duty to maintain and/or improve it afterwards
C.The Crown will provide every soldier with training - equipment must be provided by the soldier.
D.Other
6.Fortifications
A.Encourage nobles to construct fortified centers of governance(castles)
B.Continue having cities as our main ruling centers

1. A Lower Legion size. We're economoically 3/10.
2. B Balanced solution. As above.
3. C Race/culture legions. Let people specialize in what they're good at/built for.

Legions remain the same, though equipment will be streamlined - we've abandoned the production of expensive things like steel armor(such as the segmented cuirass)

The crown continues to finance the royal army and factions can maintain up to 6k professional, full-time soldiers(Here I would like to remind you all that if you want to have lots of high-quality troops it'll be costing you a lot)
Castle construction and use as administrative centers is encouraged - urban population centers only make up 10% of the Kingdom's population at the moment.

We've outfitted a new advance legion and a new defense legion, giving us 15 000 standing royal troops.
The Roggarian Mark has had to be debased, with the Mint making coins that contain smaller amounts of precious metals to artifically increase our monetary supply. We're having financial issues and are deeply in debt.

Forgot to use this image last time, baka

Our current mines are maintaining production, we've cleared out and restored mine shafts that we previously had lost. In the area of the new volcano we've unearthed copper/zinc deposits.
Ezirin has secured a peace with the centaurs and black orcs after many years of fighting, ceding lands and riches. Anglanorse holds the line against the Frostfangs.
In Paitras a civil war has begun - the Norse-blooded men of the Anglamarch sacked Dominas and killed the King. Zhongian is also embroiled in a civil war while still under foreign invasion. Maldam Kragnan has defeated the Lightsteel dwarves in battle, securing his rule over the dwarves.
Emperor Rabolep has asked that we aid Paitras. As the richest part of the Empire, the halflings have been investing in their own defences in recent years.

Paitras? What has Paitras done for us?
We Vaesgyolans may carry more Paitran blood than your average Roggarian, but one thing is clear: we'd give our lives for the latter.
When the Norse warlords took our lands and slaughtered our people, did the Paitrans come to our rescue? No. They left us to die. When my forefathers pledged loyalty to the Empire, and fought for a reform that never was accepted, where were the Paitrans then?
We bled for them and we got nothing in return but misery.
So, Halfling king, I'll reply to you in a way that can be understood even by your half-sized brain.
Fuck right off.

In local towns and cities of Roggar, a crier has come forth. His message is as such;

"Humble citizens of roggar, I am Julian Assange. A humble human, just as most of you. I've lived all my life in Gardengrove. Working the fields. But no longer. A perverse heathenism has pervaded Roggar. You may have heard of Virism, a seemingly harmless cult grown by one of the local lords. However, there is more at work. My Organization, promptly named Risky Leaks, has obtained troubling information. I flagellated, and fasted for 10 days and 10 nights, and the gods came to speak to me. Virism is not just some harmless cult. It is a dangerous cult grown by several lords of Roggar, to obtain the state of ascendant godhood. Those gods in the cult, they are masquerades. Each and every one of them, they are in fact living beings on this plane. The Gods gave me their associated groups, and I will tell them you.
First, the Hawthorne's. The makers of this cult.

Secondly, the Lectre's of Starling.

Thirdly, the Rangers, who might I add have come under scrutiny for housing the recently deceased Emperor Senan.

Fourthly, the Order of the Dragon Guard.

Fifthly, The Duke of Virnium.

Sixthly, the Goblin Trinket Guild.

Seventhly, the Dreck Warband.

I cry to you, plead to you, citizens of roggar! Carry my message to the pontiff, to the churches, to the slums and to the Emperor! Let them know what has infected Roggar. Should I die, let it be known I died a faithful of the Pantheon. Thank you for your time.

Meanwhile in Roggar:

My Lords and Ladies! The Church has made a discovery on the issue of Virism! The goal of the this cult is none other then the deification of it's heads! It has been support and grown by this so called "Cult of the Damned" which includes such notable as the Dragon Guard, Hawthornes, Ogrogradh, Goblin Tricket Mongol, Ranger Grandmaster, Lectres, Duchy of Virinum and Oceanus the sea elf. All are expected to report in for questioning to as to their part in this conspiracy! Deification is at it’s core soul magic and has been banned in Roggar for good reason! Virism has been herby labelled a harmful cult and banned in Roggar!

"And now you see"
A tide crashes hard into the beast, about to devour the ship on which Scathach stood - an old priest of Gyolas on the deck is hard at work, putting his entire energy into this attack. The Hawthorne demoness stopped thinking at that moment, her heart truly full of purpose, for the first time since she could remember - she grabbed a harpoon from the deck and leapt off the ship, onto the beast, the tide propelling her forward - she pierced the kraken's heart, ending its life.

The two surviving sea elven ships fled. The repentant daemoness climbed aboard our last, barely floating longhsip.

On Sicilius, the largest island, we encountered the local resistant movement, which greatly aided us in ousting the pirates. The Godric forces took and secured Angel Isle. Valyria was the toughest nut to crack, as that is where the pirates were keeping their troops and ships - we lost thousands of men fighting for that island, but after several months the colonial campaign is over, a costly victory, but a victory nonetheless.

Upon her arrival into the port, Scathach spoke to her father of the miracle she had witnessed during the battle, and just what she had done.

Upon hearing of his granddaughter's repentence, Barnaby declared her no granddaughter of his, and told her Balor would have viewed her as a traitor.

The two began to argue, and that led to a fight. Not ones to come unprepared, Barnaby brandished Kogal's demon blade, while Scathach brought out a blade not seen in centuries - the blade of Rowan Hawthorne.

Dueling in the ice fields of Mukava, there can only be one victor here.

Months later, Barnaby was challenged by his great grandson, a mortal named Cernunnos.

Aged 49, he was an interesting thing - A Hawthorne, but one trained in nature magic by Divata's Daughters, although he withdrew after they murdered the Trusted Adviser.

Learning of his aunt's fate, Cernunnos sent a formal challenge to Barnaby, one that was taken up. The two hope to settle it like men, in the Gladiatorium, once again to the death.

Moving to immediately disembowel his opponent, Cernunnos hoped to redeem his family in the eyes of the Gods with a single blow.

"To all my peasants, I say this to you - I have no clue of my predecessor's tax rate, but I am reducing yours to the regular 10% rate, with no more taxes coming from me.

On top of that, I am reducing the amount of men I field from 4K to 1K. This is an attempt to keep costs down while keeping the school running, and also an attempt to stop us getting involved in any civil wars personally. I truly hope this will enable us to flourish where others will not in the coming years...

as for manafuel - yes, the rumors are true. My predecessors, the damnable fools they were, used mortals to power their ambitions, and they sold it to others as well. The galentine caskets they used will be washed out and melted, to build a monument to Charodei - with the War Council's help of course. It will be erected in the center of my port of Thornebush, where I hope to create a Grand Temple to Charodei as well. In time, I hope to truly make the Hawthornes great."

(Pic related is what it looks like, without all the color of course.)

Carthic was surveying the costs of Roggar to find a site to build REDACTED while he was in Castile, he noticed strange rumors of the city's founding. A little bit of detective work and he found something. The documents of one, Sofia, who lost a case centuries ago and was sentenced to death. But the historical value wasn't the gem of the pile. It was a list of Heretics that inquisitors has to be carful of. Carthic came out of that room a changed man, and made haste back to victory.
