“You’ve almost got ‘em, Gohan! Pull harder!” Goku shouts excitedly.

“U-uurrrwwaaahhh!” your son shouts, pulling on a fishing rod and landing a fish the size of a bear on the shore.

“You got it! Yaaaay!” Peppa cheers, quickly bonking it on the head with her Practice Power Pole. Izumi giggles gleefully, riding Icarus above the scene.

You sit back, smiling at the scene with Chi-chi and your brother. Raditz sits curiously. “Huh. Never took you folks for the type to go fishing.”

“So that IS something they do on other planets.” Chi-chi comments, smiling like she just won a bet.

“What, you think Earthling monopolize on such activities?” he asks with a quick laugh.

Hard to believe that not too long ago your lives were on the line defending Brench. Chuu Lee’s been trying to relax as much as she can, given her newfound fame. Vegeta was furious with her when he found out what happened... but he seems to have accepted his loss, begrudgingly. Tarble and his wife should be meeting with the Brench leaders by now to see what they can do about the soldiers attacking their respective planets, and with his new Scouter you gave him he should be contacting you all again soon enough.

Things are probably going to get dangerous again, you don’t need your Foresight to see that. But for right now? It’s best to relax while you can. You all have earned a bit of peace and quiet.

You look to the long-haired Saiyan and ask, with a sly smile, “Say, Raditz, how are you and Tights doing?”

“Matchmaker Maple, no.” he grumbles. “We’re not dating.”

“So what ARE you doing with her?” Chi-chi inquires.

“Interviews, research, mostly.” he states. “She’s been very curious about what my life was like before I got here...” He seems to frown slightly, a tinge of regret in his voice. “...Well, and my change of heart. She’s piecing together some things on cultures outside of the Earth’s. Heh, her place always looks like it has a thousand different stories being written at once.”

“You sure you don’t think she’s cute, even a little bit?” you ask hopefully.

“Saiyans are very peculiar about their mates. Even Kakarot went for the ‘typical’ approach for us, in spite of our races’ colored past.” Raditz looks to you and laughs. “Out of everyone, Tarble is the outlier among us.”

“Keep me notified if you start looking, then.” you ask cheekily, standing up. Maybe if you ask nicely, Capsule Corp. could help set you up with a matchmaking business. Ah, that’s for later though... “Hey, monkey boy, toss me a fishing pole!” you shout. “Brobro, mind cooking up that fish for us?”

“Knowing the Saiyans here, I doubt one will be enough.” he jokes. Raditz and Goku don’t even protest, they just laugh along with him.

You sit down with Gohan, waiting patiently with the line in the water, ruffling your son’s hair softly. “Good job, sweetie.” He smiles up at you, then watches the fishing pole. A few nice, quiet minutes pass as your brother gets a campfire set up. Chi-chi does a stretch and starts to head over to her husband... when a thought crosses your mind.

“Say, Chi-chi, I’ve been thinking...”

“You do that a lot, Maple.” she responds in a dry, yet clearly teasing voice.

“Well, it’s about the kids’ schooling.”

She stops walking, then heads closer to you, Peppa and Izzy closing in as well. “Oh perfect! I’ve been meaning to talk with you about this too.”

I'm fine with whatever basic education with other kids they get.

Could we visit each martial arts schools and see which one the kids would be able to excel at in their own pace? Orin School, King Chappa's, Crane, Chin-Star, Panther-Fang.

The Royal Academy of Science is a neat place if our kids prove to prodigies I know they will be.

We could pick out tutors from each school and have the kids train with that person as well so we can rotate guest characters too.

I'm open to seeking Baba's advice and guidance.

She's our teacher as well and the kids would do well to learn under her. Peppa would probably love the monster gang under her employee.

We could also have them meet deceased family members and mentors while there too.

Baba could also use her foresight to see which path of education would be best for the kids too.

She sits down next to you, looking over the kids. “...well, Mark and Miguel had Videl going to a school in West City, with Pantea. It’s a bit far from all of us, but not too far that we can’t get there quickly.”

“West City, huh? And here I was going to think you wanted somewhere closer, like Orance Star or maybe near your dad’s village.”

“It’s just a thought.” she states bashfully.

“Or could try and see if Auntie Baba could hire some tutors, betcha she’s got the cash for it.”

She thinks that one over. “I dunno about that... I mean, I know she’s got a lot going for her, but what would that even be like?”

“Oh, you know, learning history from a mummy, biology from a vampire, astronomy from a gost. The basics.” Acer comments from afar, cooking the first fish with Goku.

“I’d just be happy with you kids getting an education. Brobro and I kinda had to be self-taught, for what little we didn’t have... well, a bit complicated to explain-”

“Downloaded?” Gohan questions, surprising you and Chi-chi. “Like, a computer?”

You ruffle his hair again and smile. “More or less. But we can’t exactly do that here. Plus, think of all the friends you get to make.”

Peppa and Izzy are positively beaming with excitement over that prospect. Chi-chi chuckles softly. “I guess we know their opinion on that.”

“What’s Acer think?”

“Was partly his idea, to be honest.” she admits, blushing slightly

“She came up with it, I checked on it.” your brother shouts to you. “It’s a good place.”

Being with friends is good, but touring the schools and looking what the general atmosphere is like can't hurt. Besides, it's not like they can't visit their other friends when they're not at school.

Aha, there’s a tug on your line! You and Gohan watch the water carefully. Yep, another giant fish, even bigger than the last! All right, wait for it... wait for it... NOW!

With a strong tug, you pull the fish onto the shore, Peppa quickly thwacking it. Izzy and Icarus land, the little girl grabbing the fish by the tail and taking it to her dad, Icarus holding up the other end as he walks with her.

The rest of the day is nice and peaceful. You and Gohan catch some more fish, cooking them with Acer and Goku. Raditz spends some time telling of a few adventures he had with the Galactic Patrol. Izzy’s apparently been spending a lot of her free time training Icarus to do tricks and fly around. Even with her able to fly on her own now, she seems to adore the little dragon.

With Goku giving the kids some training, you decide to visit the new Champ, teleporting to her and finding... Videl? “Ah, Maple! Sorry, I didn’t know you were coming over!” your former student’s voice calls to you apologetically.

“It’s fine, sorry for intruding.” you tell her with a friendly smile. “Just wanted to check up on the new Champ.”

Videl walks to you. “She’s been training me! I got permission from my dad.” the girl tells you, swaying slightly in her white gi, her pigtails softly bopping either side of her face as she does. “I wanna be as strong as her when I grow up.”

“At the rate you’re going, you’ll surpass me before you hit 18.” Chuu Lee chuckles.

“Girls, you should give it a rest! Lunch time!” a woman’s voice announces.

“We’ll be there in a bit, mom! Also Maple’s here, think you’ve got some extra tea?”

“You don’t have to.”

She shakes her head. “I insist.”

The three of you head back, Videl skipping along as you get to the house. Pippi flies to Chuu Lee, the bird perching on her shoulder. You look around the place. Mostly the same as it was last time you were here... save piles of mail, some organized, most not. And, of course... the World Champion belt.

Chuu Lee notices you spot it, then looks with you. “...It almost doesn’t feel real, Maple. Like... just the other day, I was a little girl wondering what keys had to do with martial arts...”

“Well, you’ve got a ways to go before you beat my record with them.” you tell her cheekily, Videl sitting down to start snacking on a meatbun.

“Heh, just hope I haven’t hit my peak by then.” she laughs. The redhead sits down, her mother pouring the girl a cup of tea. “...Has Tarble mentioned Vegeta at all recently?”

“Last I heard him and Nappa left the planet and are off training themselves to get even stronger.” Do have to wonder when he’ll be back for the Wish. “Something bothering you?”

“Less... ‘bothering’ and more just a feeling of unease.” she admits, taking a sip.

“You’ll be able to kick his ass again easily, Chuu Lee!” Videl praises.

“Miss Videl, language.” Chuu Lee’s mother scolds.

“...kick his butt.” she mumbles, hiding her face.

You sit back. “Unease, huh?”

“Yeah. I know he wants a rematch and everything, and he still earned that wish... ah, Maple...” She puts her cup down, fidgiting her fingers. “Please, be honest with me: was that the right choice? Going for what I did, instead of trying to stop him from using the Dragon Balls?”

We tell him the repercussions that the dragon balls hold and we offer alternative paths for anything he can possibly wish for.

Super Vegeta vs Super Godzilla for the water of youth.

Other paths of power more appealing to him with Baba's and our clairvoyance.

Nappa probably isn't happy with all this. What are some routes for him to take? Space Patrol time like Raditz? Ginyu Squad time and working with Kuriza?

“Champion totem happened for a reason, girl.” you remind her.

“M-Maple...” she mumbles out, blushing.

You cross your arms. “I mean it. I’m proud of you. As your former master, and your friend. Because... well, your reasons for it really show just how far you’ve come. You earned that Champion belt, more than I did.”

She looks back to it again and smiles softly. “...do kinda wish they made it a bit smaller.”

You laugh. “I know, right? I couldn’t wear the thing normally as a kid, and even now it’s a bit big on me. You’d have to be like... at least Mark’s size or Goku’s or something. Was kinda hoping they’d change it eventually for us girls, but nope. Bah, I should talk with them next time, get one that can chance size.”

Your little rant causes everyone in the house to start laughing. “Thanks for that, Maple.” Chuu Lee tells you sweetly.

“Though... now I have to know, someone else doesn’t quite think what you did was the best option, right? And you’d like a second opinion?”

She frowns. “...Piccolo is worried.”

Ahh, of course. “That Vegeta might do something terrible with the wish?”

“There’s a lot that could go wrong. Towa could try to hijack it. Someone else could find them first. Vegeta might destroy Shenron after having his wish granted. And then there’s what Kami learned...”

“I might want to bring that last one up with Vegeta myself. At the very least try to get him to learn something from Baba instead of wasting a wish on this...”

Chuu Lee takes another drink of tea, looking to a picture below the Champion belt. You see it’s a picture of her... and some other folks you vagurly recognize. Think they might be some of her friends, from her area. Next to it is... aww, one of her and Lapis together.“...let’s hope for the best.”

You nod. “Let’s work for the best.”

“Ah, speaking of working, think you might have a moment to spare to help Videl spar?” she asks, placing her hands together. “Please?”

The girl nearly... well, inhales what’s left of her meat bun and jumps out of her seat. “R-REALLY?!”

Videl’s Ki jolts upwards... and then a red aura flares around her. “KAIO-KEN!”

Don’t have your Scouter on you, but if you were to put it in a ballpark... she’d be hitting around 15,000. Damn, girl. You take a stance. “Ready when you are.”

She moves at you like the wind, trying for a jump-kick.

You’re ready for her attack, but even you are surprised by the girl’s tenacity. You block Videl’s kick, only for her to use the momentum from landing to try and aim another one at your face. You catch that one and back away. You then notice her build up more Ki shout out, “EAGLE KICK!” The girl’s legs fly at you like a bird of prey, pushing you back some more. She follows it up with a Ki-powered punch... wait, not just Ki, she’s putting some Magic into it too! “HAWK ARROW!”

You block just in time, but the force of the blow pushes you back ever so slightly. Videl then takes the opportunity to surprise you and grab you by your arms, trying to throw you over her shoulder. You let her follow through... but only to a point, breaking out of her hold, spinning yourself out of the way, and landing on your feet. “Amazing, Videl!” you praise the girl. Ah, but she isn’t giving up just yet. She tries one more time to rush at you... but you make an actual counter at the last second with her Kaio-ken running out of steam, you use the Izumi combo to take her down, but make sure to be gentle with it. “Though, looks like you need to work on your timing just a bit.”

Videl falls to the grass, pushing herself up again. She looks to you, panting. “Aww... ha... haa... a-already?”

You smile and rub the back of your neck. “Don’t sweat it, kiddo. Even I had to practice a lot to get used to the Kaio-ken’s limits. But your technique is great, I’m impressed!”

She puts her hands on her knees and laughs. “Haha... it’s cause I’ve got a great teacher.”

You look to your former student with pride. “You definitely do.”

You ruffle Videl’s hair gently. Kid’s getting stronger and stronger, Gohan and Peppa will have a real fight on their hands if they go against her again. Chuu Lee talks with her a bit about the Wind magic she’s been learning and adapting, commenting on how she’s handled developing her own techniques.

You cross your arms and watch the two practice some. Now that you think about it, Wind Magic does seem fairly versatile, with Chuu Lee, Peppa, and now Videl learning some of it. Maybe you should learn some yourself, some time. What surprised you all was a visit from, of all people, King Chappa.

“Ah, I figured that you would be here, Maple.” the former Champion comments.

“What’s the occasion?” you question, putting your hands behind your neck.

“Well, probably mostly the same as your being here, I’d assume.” He looks to Videl and Chuu Lee practicing. “Though I didn’t quite sense that she was busy with her student until I got close. Perhaps I should come back later. There is another thing I wished to do...”

“No no, w-we’re fine with it! Just doing some training...” Chuu Lee apologizes. “...er, wait, what else are you here for, sir?”

King Chappa smiles. “I wish to locate the Sacred Crown.”

She shakes her head. “Not yet, I’ve been saving that for another occasion. But...” she smiles down at Videl. “...I’d say she’ll be ready soon enough.”

Videl seems almost giddy over that... ah, wait! “You know, I’ll be back in a bit, I made a promise, and it’s about time I fulfil it.” You tap two fingers to your forehead, sensing for Gohan’s Ki. “I can point you to where Mount Rumble is, if you need directions, King Chappa.”

“I thank you for the offer, but I’ll make it.” he replies, looking to you curiously.

“All right, good luck!” And in a flash, you’ve teleported away from them. You return home and find your son sitting on a log outside your home... meditating? Huh.

Gohan opens his eyes as he senses you arrive. “Mama!”

You catch him as he jumps up at you, hugging tight. “Hey son, already learning how to do that?”

“Papa said you did it a lot to relax and focus.” he replies, setting down, his tail swaying happily. “Was taking turns training. Peppa’s turn now.”

“ESTEND!” you hear above you, spotting Goku and your daughter sparring with their Power Poles.

Gohan’s eyes light up estatically, the boy trying to hold back a gleeful shriek that you know could match even his sister’s. He resolves to simply nod... very enthusiastically. “Right now?”

“Yep!” You pat his head softly. Ah, to be young again... “Monkey boy, I’m about to get Gohan to go on a trip to Mount Rumble, mind if I borrow Peppa for a bit too?”

Goku blocks his daughter’s next strike with the Power Pole as he turns to you. “Ah, the Sacred Crown!” He then looks to Peppa. “How about it sweetie, wanna do some extra training with your mom today?”

She retracts her own Power Pole and flies down, landing right next to you and nearly bouncing on her feet as she smiles. “YES! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!~”

“Okay Champ, settle down a bit.” you laugh. “Grab on, kids!”

Locating King Chappa’s Ki, you and the kids teleport away, arriving on Mount Rumble... right as the man dodges out of the way, nearly catching you all in surprise with a bolt of lightning touching down. You back the kids away from it protectively, and watch as King Chappa continues his trial.

Gohan and Peppa watch intensely as the man dances around the lightning, slowly, but surely, getting faster, movements getting harder to track. Ah, just like your attempt with it...

The crown flies off his head, the aura of the Raio-ken surrounding him, sparks flying from his body. “Looks like that was successful, ey King Chappa?” you ask, smiling at him.

“Indeed it was!” he laughs out, testing his newfound speed. “And I see you have brought your own kids with you this time. Is it their choice?”

“I wanna get to be as fast as mama!” Gohan replies, Peppa still just about to start bouncing in anticipation next to him.

“Ah, if only mine were as diligent as any of you. Hopefully this will motivate them a bit.” He bows, powering down. “Take care, Maple and family.”

“You too, King Chappa! Nice meeting you again!” The three of you wave goodbye as he flies off, Gohan looking to the crown. Peppa seems like she’s about to bolt to it herself, actually.

Gohan sits patiently and prepares to listen, Peppa... trying to sit, but she can’t help but bounce on her tail slightly. Huh, surprising she’s already able to do that, guess she’s been training it on her own, too. You get her to settle down and listen, and then begin your explanation.

“The Sacred Crown is an object that allows one to train themselves to increase their speed dramatically, but in order to do it... you have to dodge lightning, just like King Chappa did.”

Gohan raises his hand. “Question!”

“Yes, son?”

“How does the Crown know?”

Ahh, smart boy. “The magic that is imbued in the crown draws lightning to it, but it has a kind of magical timer that is reset each time it’s struck. So, you have to not only be fast, but able to predict where the lightning will strike next and move accordingly. Quick in mind, quick in body.”

Peppa tilts her head, a little confused. “But what if I just run off the mountain?”

“Then the lightning would follow after you, and might hit you if you aren’t fast enough with your reflexes. The crown won’t be easily removed, too, until you get hit too many times or dodge enough of the bolts. Think of it like... well, when you two tried playing ‘the floor is lava.’ You’re ‘dead’ if the lightning hits you.”

“THE LIGHTNING IS MADE OF LAVA?!” Peppa exclaims, causing her brother to giggle.

“N-not quite like that, Peppa.” Oh sweetie... “Now, we’ll determind who goes first by... Jan Ken!” You make the symbols for Rock, Paper, and Scissors with your hand. “Ready?”

Gohan and Peppa stand, facing each other and nodding. “Uh-huh!”

“Go!”

“JAN!”

“KEN!”

Peppa goes for Scissors, smiling confidently at her brother.

But Gohan? Gohan goes for Rock. Good, reliable Rock.

Your daughter sulks slightly as Gohan approaches the crown, pulling it up and placing it on his head. He stands tall, waiting patiently. And then, the clouds above start to rumble...

Lightning strikes down, but Gohan manages to step aside. Not quite as easy as you did it, but he catches on quick. Lightning strikes again, and Gohan successfully predicts it and dodges. And again, and again. Peppa watches him quietly, at least for her, as he dashes away from bolt after bolt, each one getting faster and faster... but so is Gohan.

After the last bolt lands, he backflips out of the way... and the Crown flies off his head. He did it. You look to him with a wide smile. You kinda knew he had it in him already, but it doesn’t make you any less proud.

Gohan looks at himself, the aura of the Raio-ken surrounding him. “...Mama, does this still work when I go Super Saiyan?”

Gohan nods, powering down. “Okay mama. I’ll get really, really good at it! Promise!”

“That’s my boy.” you say with a smile, giving him a hug. “Now, Peppa, are you ready for your turn?”

You look back, and your daughter isn’t there. She’s already at the crown, taking it and placing it on her head. “Like this, mama?”

You sigh. “Well, certainly has the speed for it... all right sweetie, now pay close attention!”

The thunder above rumbles through the air. All right, this is it... Peppa sways a little, not really able to stand still. The first flash of lightning strikes down, and she only barely dodges it. It strikes again, Peppa moving out of the way, but her movements aren’t... they leave a bit to be desired. She’s almost more on instinct than technique, and that can only get her so far...

“PEPPA!” Gohan shouts, catching his sister’s attention. “THE LIGHTNING IS LAVA!”

“Gohan, don't dis-!” You start to protest, but, somehow... that works. Peppa dodges the next bolt of lightning, much more focused. And the next one, and the one after that. One after the other, your daughter starts to get faster, more aware of her movements. Her steps soften. Quiet as the sky...

“HA!” she shouts, making one more successful dodge, the crown on her head flying off. She stands for a moment, soaking in this new technique. She clenches her fists... and does a little victory lap, circling the mountain a few times. Faster than lightning!

You look down at your son. “Well, looks like you helped her get it, kiddo.”

He rubs the back of his neck. “Sis... just needed to focus, is all, mama.”

‘An... odd way to focus, but hey, I was a kid once too.’ you think to yourself, watching your daughter land in front of you. The kids look to you happily, then lock arms and dance with one another, cheering that they did it.

With that bit of training complete for them, you next take some time to...

“Well, aside from him eating so much that I’m sure he has a black hole in that tummy of his, he’s been good.” Shao replies.

We can combine machine gun punch with phantom kick. 'Machine Gun Kick' (Lightning)

Izumi Combo and Change the Future into 'Future's Combo' bonus if we do with our fore sight.

If we learned Yamcha's ki blast thrust, we can combine it with our hallowed rush for an even more effective punch.

If we can work on a fire version on name argument charge move we could start doing better fire spells and maybe even add it to our melee moves like our lightning. Fist of the Mahogany Flame!

“And we are done with this conversation.” Keli grumbles, face going as red as a tomato, running her fingers through her silver hair.

You give her a nervous smile and try to switch things around. “On the earlier point, what about the Crane School? I heard that you guys have been busy lately.”

The two women nod. “Up until just recently, Tien’s been working double time with us. Hah, Bisa and Lao have probably been going through even more than usual, the two have been trying to catch up to Chiaotzu’s level. Lil’ guy’s gotten really tough.”

“We worked hard back on Brench, he’s probably been super motivated.” you speculate. That, and you just know he’s been trying to impress Lazuli a bit...

“But what do you mean ‘until recently?'” Goku asks.

“It’s why we have some time off. Tien, Chiaotzu, and Launch have gone looking for something. Not really sure what it is, seemed to involve some kind of... forest, or something?”

You arrive on the Lookout with Gohan, Peppa opting to spend the day with her father. The boy walks with you as you approach the main building, Mr. Popo waving to you two politely as he waters some of the plants. Your son looks around curiously, but quietly, as Trip and Kami greet you.

“Greetings once again, Maple.” the aged Namekian welcomes, a smile appearing on his face. He seems to be in high spirits today. “So what is this thing you wished to speak with us about?”

“I noticed something interesting when I was following Chuu Lee and Vegeta’s fight, more specifically about Vegeta’s Ki.” you comment, looking to Trip. “Something familiar, too.”

“Familiar?” the woman questions.

You cross your arms. “Remember that thing you did when Goku was fighting Turles? Right after you healed me?”

“Ah, I recall. I was able to use the Samma Samadhi to help him finish that fight.” she explains.

“Well... from what I could sense, whatever Towa was doing to Vegeta was a lot like it. Not quite the same, and my memory is a little fuzzy from that day, but was similar enough to make a connection with the two.” you inform the woman.

“...she couldn’t have...” Trip mumbles out in disbelief. “Maple, what else do you recall from it?”

Now that’s a curious reaction. “Well... Chuu Lee seemed to be able to overcome it on her own, and Vegeta was subconsciously resisting it from what I could tell. It was making him even more violent than usual, though.”

“Maybe it was hurting him?” Gohan asks you, drawing everyone’s attention to the boy. “If it was making him stronger, but hurting him, he could be trying to stop it.”

The Namekian raises his eyebrow. “Your son brings up a good point. Miss Sanzo, what do you know of this?”

She bites her lip and looks down. “...if it’s what I think it is, Towa may have perfected a very powerful, and very, very dangerous ability that demons created in the past. Or... potentially recreated it.”

Guys, I have this neat idea for a new ki attack!

Okay, so it's sort of like the Supernova/Spirit Bomb in that we need to make a big ball of ki first. Instead of throwing the ball after throwing ki into it, we do the Cross Strash from the Dragon Quest manga on it to make the energy shoot out towards our opponent in an "X" or Cross shaped wave of sharpness.

I call it the "Egg Wight Templar"!

You nod. “He managed to get Prince Beelzebub to learn it, and he almost killed Towa with it.”

“The technique amplifies the negative emotions within someone, enhances the power of their inner demons, and destroys their heart. Spike has used it to kill people before. Only those truly pure of heart are immune to it.” The grip on her staff tightens. “The Noble Eightfold Path was developed to bring people away from that. But even it has to play by... the ‘rules’ of the universe, so to speak. Just as one can work to better others and help them reach new heights, so too can one find ways to corrupt and manipulate.”

You tilt your head as you take all this in. “So... what you did to Goku helped him get stronger by... amplifying his purity?”

Trip nods. “In a sense. Son Goku is indeed a pure and noble person, heart empty of evil. Even at the apex of his anger, he still has that same heart. The Samma Samadhi works best with people like him. And on the opposite side of the coin, you have individuals like Vegeta, hearts full of malice and hatred. Unlike the Samma Samadhi’s ability to strengthen the purity of one’s heart, what happened to him forced power out of him, more than he has naturally... but also takes it away, slowly. Towa in true possession of this ability, something that should be a relic of the past, is a terrible thing.”

“I see... so, does this mean you have a way to counter it? I mean, I assumed the Samma Vaca would work, but is there anything else we should know? And Gohan brings up a good point, especially with what you mentioned; was it hurting him?”

“The Samma Vaca does indeed work, but as Chuu Lee discovered, the boost granted by this demonic power has its limits. It... in a sense is like the Devilmite Beam, but much more controlled and far more insidious. Granting power like that too quickly can destroy someone’s body, so it has a sort of... ‘cap’ if you will. She managed to overload the cap to it, cause it to spill out. But... this also means that all the power from that fight has gone right into Towa’s hands.”

Is... there some way for Beelzebub to use that kind of power, but in a more positive way? Like... I don’t know, like how we use the Raio-Ten or something...”

“Prince Beelzebub has already found a method of that. He is able to absorb the strength of darkness into himself, but only draws from it benignly; he doesn’t steal people’s strength to fuel himself.” She chuckles softly. “He’s a very noble young demon. Well... for a relative definition of ‘young.’”

“Heh, he’s definitely a step up from Shura.” Wonder if he and Princess Misa have been doing anything of late...

“Mama, are you gonna stay here?” Gohan asks.

Trip chuckles. “She does not have to stay, little one. But... Maple, would remind me how far you have gotten up to, please?”

“Samma Vayama.” you recall.

“So you have two steps to take left. Samma Sati, and the Samma Samadhi. So do not worry, it may take a couple months at most, but I will not keep her from you.” she replies sweetly to your son.

Gohan gives a relieved sigh. “Thank you gramma Trip!”

The woman’s cheeks redden slightly. “G-g-g-gramma?”

Gohan tilts his head. “Papa always talked ‘bout you like I do with mama, so you’re like papa’s mama, so doesn’t that make you gramma?”

“I... assure you, Gohan, I am not like your father’s mother.”

You look to your son, the boy mumbling ‘Auntie Trip’ to himself a few times. “A future we’ll keep bright. That’s a promise. Anyway, he might have a different gramma if things go well with dad. So, where do I start, Trip?”

She straightens herself out once more. “Your next step is Samma Sati. Right Mindfulness. It is the ability to recognize that no matter how one may live, one’s mortal life is an impermanent one. A time will come for us all, and even though there have...” she looks to Kami. “...been ways to circumvent that temporarily, creation needs destruction in order to continue the cycle. Birth, death, rebirth. It is through recognizing these limits that one can work to go beyond them for the sake of others. Maple... what are your limits? What do you see as holding you back from this Right Mindfulness?”

...Huh. That’s a good question.

Well I died once thanks to Robo Kold and got back thanks to the Tree of Might's Sap. So death in itself isn't so bad. The fountain of youth also holds a way to extend life and a means to cheat death unless ended unnaturally.

The Dragon Balls have always been a fail safe but even then those are finite and so are the Namekian Dragon Balls as well.

A natural death is perhaps one thing that mostly holds us back. Dying without any means of returning as apart of the cycle and accepting that there's not reset button is something that'll probably come way too late.

Dying too early perhaps is an another but we know an alternate version of our self dies at near our age anyway in the Hatchiyak attack on Earth.

Accepting we may die, and our death not doing squat is probably the biggest fear. Mirai Gohan held the weight of Mirai Maple's death on his shoulders and I don't want that to happen to Gohan and Peppa.

You hear Popo talk about some kind of model kit thing, but double down on your thoughts.

“Well... I have a habit of looking to the future, and trying to ensure that it’s a good one, to start. Even if it sometimes doesn’t work out as intended, like...” You clench your fists. “When Acer first died.”

“What else?”

You rub the back of your neck. “Ah, on that point, I guess I don’t really... have much to fear of the afterlife? My brother’s been there, I’ve been there thanks to King Cold, my teacher visited us, Goku’s grandpa visited us... I even got a body when I went there. Plus there’s the Fountain of Youth that the Kaiju are guarding that can extend out natural lives like dad did. Sure the Dragon Balls are... finite, but they’ve been a failsafe for us many times before.”

She sits on the lookout floor in a meditative pose, and motions for you to do the same. “So, you see yourself in a predicament where death does not have the... sting it does for other people... but what else about accepting this comes to your mind?”

“That’s... another good point. Brobro and I are Wild Cards... kind of because we a bit of an abberation made by him. Last hope of a dying race... and I want to leave a legacy for them. I want us to go out on a high note, not... not end up one of some tyrant bent on universal domination. Trip, is that wrong?”

“Don’t ask if it’s wrong, Maple.” she instructs. “Ask yourself if it’s holding you back. Ask yourself how it’s holding you back.”

“...I know what’s at stake, I guess. And I struggle to accept failure with it.” you summise. “Heh. Ironic, I guess.”

The woman smiles at you. “It is never an easy pill to swallow. But... you show promise, Maple. More than I did when I tried to accept it the first time...” she admits shyly. “I believe Tien has struggled with this as well, but... he pushed past it. Meditate on this for a few days: you can accept the possibility of failure, and still work to prevent it.”

“I’ll do that, Trip. Thank you.”
