/qst/ - Quests

>This is a quest taking place in the Fullmetal Alchemist setting, beginning at roughly the same time as the original story. However, some parts of the setting have been slightly altered. You will be playing as a Iskander Steiner, a young alchemist, who will develop based on the choices made by the players. Remember that write-ins are always welcome, and to have fun.

From your hiding place around the corner, you and Leah can see Scar and the Silver Alchemist begin to fight, Scar using his usual tactic of alchemically dismantling any of the attacks thrown at him. You were tailing Comanche to try and get an idea of where Scar might strike, but you didn't quite expect to run into this easily. Despite your fortune however, you see Leah tense up beside you.

"This isn't good." she begins. "We wanted to know when he'd be in town, and now we know. But the Lieutenant Colonel's plan requires a few hours for everyone to prepare. Not to mention, we're supposed to lure him out. If we get involved here, he might go into hiding, and we won't be able to bring him out when we need to. Assuming we can even handle him, that is."

The battle continues, and you can see Comanche's attacks having little effect, as Scar destroys them all. The Silver Alchemist is less than intimidated, but you know the second Scar gets a hand on him, it's over.

"We can't be sure that we'd even be able to save him if we tried..." Leah says, gripping her rifle tighter. "And even if we did, it might mean we lose our chance at executing the plan. So does that mean we just leave this man to his fate?"

You can tell Leah is conflicted. She's trying to talk herself out of it. In the time you've known her, Leah was never one to stick her neck out for strangers, but you can see her right now just barely holding back the urge to take fire at Scar. However, she's clearly waiting on a prompt from you before she takes any action. She doesn't want to jeopardize everything that your group has planned, or of course, your own lives. As she said, there's no guarantee that you could survive Scar alone if you did intervene.

>A.We're not about to let someone die if we can help it, even if we have to rework the plan. I'll head out to help fight, you provide cover

>B.Maybe a few shots will scare him off, we can still hope he can be lured out later

welcome back Laze, giving us the tough choice right out the gate, huh.

>B.Maybe a few shots will scare him off, we can still hope he can be lured out later

a limp wristed response perhaps, but I don't believe a killer like scar would back away from a hunt, no he's here for a purpose and were not ready yet.

It might interfere with the plan, but you're not about to leave someone to die. You sign as much to Leah, then tell her to provide cover while you go out there.

"Alright, then let's do it." Leah takes up a kneeling position with her rifle. "Be careful. Scar is no joke, and we just want to get him to back off. We're already going to be in trouble for putting him on alert, so let's try not to put him out of commission and make the plan impossible. Just keep your distance while keeping him away from Comanche until he decides to make a break for it."

While Leah gets ready to provide cover, you run out and expose yourself. Just in the nick of time it seems, since as soon as you leave your hiding place, you see the Silver Alchemist's peg leg shatter, and he falls off the railing he was on into the river. Scar was about to give chase, but he turns when he hears you approach.

"You?" he says, recognizing you from earlier. "You're quite a fool to try and face me again, after only just running away last time. But if you're so bent on it, then fine. I'll give you the salvation you desire. After I finish this one, of course."

Scar jumps for the river, as you see Comanche's head resurface. While swimming, he's practically defenseless.

Anything you created with alchemy, he could easily disassemble. You'll have to handle this the old fashioned way. You rush after Scar, hoping to hold him up and prevent him from reaching Comanche. You're able to catch him before he reaches the water, but you confidence in your fighting ability seems to outstrip your ability itself. Without even turning to look first, Scar whips around and punches you in the sternum, knocking the wind out of you. He follows up by sweeping your legs out from under you, and hitting you again, causing you to fall hard on your back. He then reaches for you with his tattooed arm.

"You're an impatient brat. Can't even let your elder have his turn first." Scar says, his hand inches from your face. "Struggle no more, and take your place at His side. Even a heretical alchemist like you can be redeemed."

Try as you might, you still can't move, and can't do anything to avoid his hand. In panic, your eyes dart over to where your only chance of survival lies, around the corner of the building you were hiding. Scar takes note, and jumps back just before a shot rings out. He runs over to the edge of another building, making sure he's at a bad angle for Leah to aim.

"I had my suspicions earlier..." Scar says, as you struggle to catch your breath. "You must have an accomplice back there. The same one that shot at me last time, no doubt. And I get the feeling that this time, you don't have any backup coming. Otherwise you'd be stalling like before."

You see Comanche has swam over to the bank of the river now and is holding onto the edge. he seems to be having trouble getting out, or maybe he's just hesitant to expose himself trying. You manage to get back to your feet. Scar knows whee Leah is now, and he'll likely do everything he can to stay out of her line of sight. Which looking at the area, is a decent amount of space. She's not in the best position at ground level. In fact, she's pretty exposed, if Scar wanted to go after her. You see Scar is still right now, weighing his options.

Comanche is still a sitting duck, and now that Scar knows where Leah is, she could be in danger too. You'll have to take it upon yourself to handle him. Just think of it like fighting teacher, except with longer reach, and getting touched by his right arm kills you. No biggie. You can turn that into a vulnerability, though. He'll always be looking for a chance to get you with his right arm. And with Leah providing you cover, you might just be able to pull this off.

Taking careful attention of where Leah can aim, you move towards Scar.

"I've heard of you too recently, boy." Scar says, as you approach. "The Silent Alchemist, brand new to the military. Were you already military by our last meeting, then? Could have fooled me. But all you've done is sealed your fate."

Once he's sure he's out of Leah's line of sight, Scar dives for you again. As you expect, he's heavy on his right side, and only supplements with his left. You put that training with the Elrics to work, and do your best to dodge. You try to bait the right when you can, intentionally leaving openings, while staying just out of his range. More than once, Scar stops just barely short of taking a bullet to the hand like before.

Your actual attempts to attack Scar are met with less success, as even though you focus on his left side, the one that can't disassemble you, it's perfectly capable of blocking or parrying anything you throw at it. Not to mention, he'd likely be able to keep this up for far longer than you. It takes everything you have just to keep him in a position close enough for Leah to pressure him from, and you're glad he doesn't have any cover. Any attempts to destroy the ground here right next to the river would also spell the end for any hopes of a fight for either of you, so you count yourself lucky.

After one instance of just barely dodging a shot from Leah's rifle, Scar backs off again. By this point, Comanche has pulled himself out of the river and is waddling away on a makeshift leg. Scar clearly recognizes that it's not worth staying here much longer. He takes one last look at you, and in Leah's direction before running down an alleyway.

Mustang needs to know about this straight away, but you also want to make sure you know how Comanche puts this across. You run over to the corner Leah was behind, then sign to her your plan. You'll inform Mustang, while she will go check on Comanche and be there when he reports this. You tell her to just say that you two were coming back from a date when you came across the fight, and to say that you left to chase after Scar.

"Right." Leah responds. "I'll tell you how things went when we meet back up at our room."

Leah grabs the bags you two had set aside, then runs after the Silver Alchemist.

Meanwhile, you head to the Lieutenant Colonel's apartment. He had told everyone where it was, so they could come to him anytime if they had urgent information. Plus it has the benefit of not being right near any other number of military officials that may or may not be on your side.

You find the room, then knock on the door.

"Who is it?" you hear from inside.

In response to this, you merely keep knocking, even getting a little beat going. Given you don't really have any way of identifying yourself, this will have to do.

"Okay, that's really annoying. You're gonna have to stop that. Can't even answer my ques-" Mustang says, as he comes to open the door. When he does, he sees you, and his face relaxes. "Oh. It's you. Well, I guess that's alright, then. I assume this is for something important?"

You nod, and the Lieutenant Colonel takes a look around to make sure no one else is here.

"Alright, get inside." he waves you in.

It's now that you notice Mustang is still in his uniform. As late as it is, he must have still only just gotten back.

"So what is it?" Mustang asks, taking a seat at the table. You do the same. "And why didn't you bring Crawford along?"

You bust out your notebook again.

You write down a note, starting with the fact that Scar is back in town, and you'll need to prepare. You go on to explain your confrontation, that you saved Comanche, and what Leah is doing right now. When you're finished, you slide the note over to Mustang, who burns it up after reading it.

"Well, I guess you did as well as anyone could have hoped." the Lieutenant Colonel sighs. "The Silver Alchemist will hopefully at least be grateful, but I'm not counting on him doing you any favors. I'd also like to hear from Leah once she gets back, but we can leave that for the morning. Now, the problem here is Scar. After a failure like that, we don't know if we can pull off our plan quite so easily. Patrols are sure to be up for a while, and while that can play into our plan pretty easily, it doesn't do us any good if Scar won't reveal himself. The good news is, he isn't injured or anything, so it's still perfectly possible for him to take the bait. I think it's still worth a shot. If he doesn't reveal himself in the next couple of days, we'll stop and try again later. The ready state we all have to be at for this plan isn't sustainable for long. Anyway, go get some rest for now. You look beat. get some sleep, and tomorrow morning, we'll see if we can't draw this guy into our trap."

Mustang sees you off, and you head back to your room. No one is there right now, so you fight the urge to sleep until Leah finally gets back. Seeing how tired she is, you realize you must be at least that tired yourself.

As late as it is, you both need to know what's going on, or you won't be getting any sleep anyway. You tell Leah all about what Mustang said, and that starting tomorrow morning, you'll be carrying out the plan. After that, you ask Leah how things went for her.

"That old man wasn't really as appreciative of having his life saved as you would think." Leah sighs. "He spent nearly the whole time just complaining about Scar. Anyway, they were kind of skeptical of the story at first, but luckily I just had to show them what was in this bag for them to buy it. So I don't think we've aroused any suspicion yet. As for the military, they're putting Comanche under protection, and starting tomorrow, are having increased patrols. So we can only hope Scar still comes out for us."

After explaining things to you, Leah sets her bag beside her bed as she flops down onto it.

"I'm glad we at least get to sleep now. I'm so tired." Leah sighs again, working her boots off. "I need to get some rounds tomorrow morning before we try anything, to replace the ones I used today."

You feel the fatigue hit you as well, especially in your chest where you got hit. You make your way over to your own bed, and fall asleep in short order.

After a more restful sleep than you expected, you and Leah grab breakfast to fill up. Given how potentially busy you could be today, you'll want the energy.

You consider taking with the Elrics, but they should get filled in just fine one way or another. You and Leah hurry and eat, then head to pick up some more ammo for her rifle. Once that is out of the way, the two of you hit the town.

The idea is to lure Scar out, while Mustang and company keep the rest of the military's forces occupied. As you think about how to go about this, you and Leah notice Ed parading around, just generally putting on a show as he uses alchemy for every person's grievance he can find.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79uXZKUKFUs&index=38&

"That's right, I'm your friendly neighborhood State Alchemist, Edward Elric!" he boasts.

"That's not a bad idea." Leah notes. "We can only hope it's enough to lure out Scar. You try that yourself, while I keep an eye out. Hopefully between you and Edward, Scar will see fit to try something. If not, we'll probably have to wait until things cool down before we have any chance of luring him out. And at the very least, you can spend the day helping people out with their chores."

You and Leah head to an area of the city decently far from Ed and Al, so as to cover more ground, but close enough that either group could come to back up the other if they did run into Scar. Though you wonder how Yi and Bido will join up for the plan, since you haven't seen them at all. Well, it was up to Mustang to account for that, anyway. You and Leah go around town using alchemy to help people with things, and making sure to make a show of it, just like Edward. Hopefully this can draw Scar out.

You get to work going around town and finding people to help. There's no shortage of them, especially when they find out you're a State Alchemist helping people put for free. You spend a few hours repairing chips and cracks in walls, floors, or roofs, fixing a handful of broken watches, and other random assorted effects. You can't exactly brag after everything you do though, so Leah has to do it for you. You can tell she's out of her element.

"Wow. That is amazing how you fixed that watch an a mere second." Leah says, in an awkward attempt at promotion. "But that's only to be expected from a State Alchemist!"

She even tries waving her hands for extra oomph, but Ed clearly has her beat in showmanship. Whether that alone was the reason you're not sure, but after hours of random chores, Scar hasn't shown up. No word from anyone else, either. That could be a good or bad thing, you don't know. At the very least, in this part of town, you've actually run out of people asking you to do stuff, so you might as well move on.

There's still time left in the day, so you make your way over to another part of town and start to help out whoever you can there, using the same idea of drawing as much attention as possible. However, as you're working, you and Leah take notice of a group of soldiers passing by. You both hear something from them that catches your full attention.

"This was the area they said Scar was in, right?" one soldier asks. "I don't see any sign of him!"

You and Leah look to each other. This was part of the plan that Mustang described. He and Fuery would confuse groups of soldiers by giving them false directions when Scar shows up. This can only mean one thing. Since you and Leah haven't seemed to attract Scar, then the Elrics must have. The two of you immediately head in the direction you last saw them. However, with no way to communicate, it takes a while to actually find them. They're no longer in the area of town where they were working, but have now made their way to the train yard. You see the brothers, and Yi with them. No one seems to have taken much injury, which you suppose means that the stalling tactic worked. However, you can tell Scar is just getting more and more annoyed.

But before you can approach, a figure jumps out into the middle of the conflict. A rotund man, bald with a big nose, the ground shakes as he lands.

"You?" Scar blurts out at the man's appearance. "Damn. This thing had to show up now?"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOiG4A2Vkp4&

"You're giving us a lot of trouble!" the fat man tells Scar, in a cheery voice. "So I'm supposed to eat you!"

As he says this, the man sticks out his tongue. There, you see the symbol of a snake eating its own tail.

"The Ouroboros..." Edward notes. "It's just like that woman."

"That's right." you hear, as a woman steps out into everyone's view. She's exactly as Al described, with an Ouroboros tattoo of her own on her chest. "You boys really need to stop getting into trouble. You're making things so much harder for us. You just stay back. Gluttony, only eat Scar. Then we can leave."

"But Lust, I want to eat more than one person!" Gluttony whines. "What about the one in the cloak? He's not important, right? Can I eat him?"

He points to Yi.

"We don't know who that is, but he can't be any good." Lust notes. "Sure, go right ahead."

"Oh boy!" Gluttony cheers, as he opens his mouth wide, and dives for Scar.
>>
Alright, that seems to be where we're stopping today. Now, I have something going on tomorrow, so I can't run. So to make up for this, I'm gonna run super long on Tuesday. I'm gonna start at like noon and run for like ten hours, at least

So these two are the ones you wanted to lure out. The military's "secret weapons". As you suspected, there's more than one person with the ouroboros tattoo, and you doubt you've seen the last of it now.

Gluttony has jumped at Scar, who holds out his right arm in defense, and grabs the fat man by the face. You expect that to be the end of it, but even after Scar uses his usual trick, he jumps back, still alert. As if he's expecting it not to work. Sure enough, Gluttony's mangled face reforms quickly, and he's right back on the attack, pressuring Scar.

"What the hell..." Ed mutters. "He won't die. What is he?"

As he and Al start to step forward to join the fight, the woman, Lust, holds her hand out in their direction. You see her fingernails extend to a ridiculous length, and one touches the skin of Edward's neck. Another pierces straight through Al's outer armor and into his body, you imagine scraping against the blood seal inside him. Neither of them attempts to move another inch.

"You boys stay right there." Lust tells them. "I'd hate to lose a sacrifice, but I won't let you do as you please. Be good boys and just sit tight, okay?"

You can see the frustration on Ed's face, but he won't risk Al's life. He gives in and resigns himself to watch.

"So the ones with the tattoo are immortal?" Leah asks. "The military must have deeper secrets than we thought. We were supposed to capture one for interrogation, but there are two... Since they won't die, we either have to take them both, or let one escape. The former may be impossible, but the latter could end up very bad for us. I suppose the one solace we have is that they don't have any official connection to the military that they can divulge, so fighting them isn't going to be held against us. I hope."

You take one more look at the situation. Yi ha joined Scar in his fight, apparently attempting to take whatever advantage he can right now. Against an undying enemy however, they seem to be making little progress. Ed and Al are held up by the woman, and unless something is done, it doesn't seem they'll be able to help at all. You don't know of any other backup coming. You and Leah have managed to stay unnoticed so far, so the two of you could turn the tide here.

There's no question. You need the help of the Elric brothers if you want to even the odds here. You tell Leah as much, and she agrees.

"I'll find a way up to a position where I can provide support." she tells you. "Be careful."

Leah leaves, and you think about how to approach. You need to separate Lust from the brothers without getting her attention. If she sees what you're doing, she can try to make use of her hostages. You decide to bank on the brothers themselves. If you give them an opening, they should be able to take it and get free. Hopefully after this, they'll be more prepared for her and won't get caught again.

You approach carefully, until you get as close as you can without being noticed. You're behind a train car, and from this distance, you should be able to separate them just fine. You clap your hands together, and press them to the railroad tracks. Lust is standing close enough to them that you can use them to get her off balance. You free a portion of the tracks, then move them in an arc, sweeping Lust's feet out from under her. Ed noticed your strategy as you did so, and was able to jump back away from the nail that had been holding him hostage. As he did so, he dived for Al, who was still seemingly immobile, pushing him back and out of the way. He was able to get Al to safety, but the way Lust fell meant her nail left a bigger hole coming out than going in. You see it leave a large gash cut into the front of his armor. Even after getting free, Al doesn't move, and Ed takes his head off to check his seal.

"Al, are you okay?" he asks. "Come on buddy, speak to me! Ah man, the seal got scratched a little bit."

"Brother..." Al's voice comes out quietly. "I feel weird."

"Al! you're okay!" Ed responds. "You just hold on, you're gonna be fine."

Lust breaks the railroad track that you made coil around her legs, then gets back to her feet.

"Of all the people that keep getting in the way, it had to be another sacrifice." she complains. "We're so close to the end, but you just keep making it harder for us. I might just have to make it so you can't make trouble any longer. There are ways to do that while keeping you alive."

The woman extends her nail again, ready to try and pierce you with them. You get a bit closer to the Elric brothers so you can work together to defend, as well as making it easier for Leah once she gets into position.

Ed might not be much help if he's distracted, so you leave him to what he's doing and face Lust yourself. The goal is to restrain her, and normally you'd be careful about not killing your target, but if she's anything like the other one, that could very well be a non-issue.

Lust points her fingers toward you, and you scramble to dodge. They're fast, and they can all come at you from slightly different angles. It's like fighting someone with ten guns that can aim them all at once and has infinite ammo. More than once, you just barely avoid getting impaled, and receive a cut along the side of an arm, leg, or your face. You'd be using alchemy to restrain her, but you don't have time. Every second that you can spare goes to throwing off Lust's aim enough for both you and the Elric brothers to avoid taking any serious damage. You disrupt her footing, or push her arm slightly, and this way, you manage to stay alive. But you can't keep this up for long. Lust can attack far quicker than you can defend, and you're only getting more tired while she is not. At one point, you try to transmute, but are too slow. You see a nail heading straight for your chest, but it stops as a familiar sound fills you with relief. You're able to move back and watch as the hole in Lust's head where she was shot regenerates.

"That girl that's always with you is here..." Lust sighs. "And now the brothers are back up. I might actually have to start worrying here."

You look behind you to see Ed and Al walking up to join you.

"Thanks for covering us, Isk." Edward says. "Just had to patch up Al's seal, but now he's good to go. So where were we?"

A glance over to Gluttony shows you that Scar and Yi are getting tossed around like rag dolls. They seem to be avoiding getting caught by Gluttony's jaw through sheer grit and determination, but the rest of his attacks are taking their toll.

Before the brothers go any further, you knock on Al's chest to get his attention. Once he's looking, you point over toward the battle with Gluttony. He gets the message.

"Alright, I'll help over there." he says, leaving Lust to you and Ed. "You two be careful, alright?"

With that done, you and Edward face off against Lust.

"So, we gotta capture her." Ed mutters. "The big problem is those nails. But I think I have an idea for that."

Ed transmutes his automail arm into a blade, and you look around the train yard. You'd like to be able to negate her regeneration if possible, and a corrosive material would be your best bet. You see a tank car that's probably filled with gasoline. That would be easy for you to transmute into a number of compounds that would keep Lust's regeneration working overtime. You and Ed will just get her close, then your plan should go off without a hitch.

As Lust extends her nails to you and Ed again, Ed gives the both of you some more breathing room by parrying a few of them. Lust makes some effort to dodge Leah's shots as well, but it keeps her from focusing too much on you and Edward. Together, you manage to pressure her into just the spot you want. You clap your hands together, then touch the tank car. It's actually kind of complicated to separate some gas from the rest, reconstruct it into an acid, and get it out of the tank and onto Lust without screwing up, but you're able to do it. As soon as it hits her, her skin starts to dissolve. She immediately starts regenerating, but the acid will stick around for a long time. It's slowing her down considerably.

"Perfect!" Ed yells, clapping his hands. "And now for the finishing touch!"

Edward uses alchemy to raise some pillars out of the ground, imprisoning Lust. He drives two of them through her wrists, and uses them to point Lust's hands upwards towards the sky. She can't point them at anybody this way. She's now immobile and harmless, and the acid should keep her regeneration busy for a while.

"Hey, we did it." Ed wipes his nose with a grin. "Looks like the others are doing alright, too."

You look over to see Al on top of Gluttony, weighing down his shoulders, while holding his arms behind his back with some cable. Scar is standing some ways away, catching his breath.

"Excellent. We've managed to subdue them." Yi says, sitting against a crate. He checks his leg to find a gash across it. "I might have a way to destroy these immortals, but I must tend to myself first."

Lust probably isn't going anywhere, so you head over to the others. Specifically, you check on Yi. That wound on his leg looks pretty bad. You pull up to him as he's drawing an array of some kind.

"Ah, Iskander. That was quite impressive." he tells you. "I'm ashamed to say I had much more trouble fighting mu opponent. But we've managed to pull through. My other concern though.. Is that Scar man. The array tattooed on his arm and his disassembly are very similar to the technique developed by my ancestors. Someone like him, who hates alchemy so could never have done the research necessary to make it. He must have gotten it from someone else, surely. But the question is why. I'm a bit intrigued."

He finishes his array, then you watch as the wound on his leg closes up.

"Ah, that must be alkahestry." Al notes form his spot on top of Gluttony. "It was mainly used for healing, right?"

"Gluttony! You need to eat that one! Right now!" Lust, still immobile, calls out to her partner. Leah takes another shot at her head, but it doesn't keep her from talking for long. "Even if one of the sacrifices gets in your way, we can afford it! Open your gate and eat the alkahestrist right now!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXH3-j5vdxA&

"Okay, Lust. I'll do it!" you hear Gluttony say, from his position face down on the ground. "And then I'll make you stop hurting Lust!"

Al and Gluttony start to rise up, and you see what look like giant rubs coming out of Gluttony's body, pushing against the ground and bringing Gluttony to his feet. Al falls off his back, and tries to hold Gluttony's arms with the cable, but he breaks loose. In his chest, you see a void, and an eye very similar to the one you saw when the Gate opened for you. Gluttony turns to you and Yi.

"Now I will definitely eat you!" he shouts.

You're not about to become someone's dinner. This guy's mouth is a whole lot bigger now, but you plan on making sure no one goes in it. You quickly clap your hands, then use alchemy move the stone of the ground to trip Gluttony, then restrain his ankles. He stumbles forward and falls right on his face, but something strange happens. The ground disappears out from under him, leaving a gigantic hole. He totters over the edge, before falling in, the ground you held his feet with crumbling into the abyss.

"Just what the hell was that?" Ed asks, carefully going over to inspect the hole. "Everything directly in front of him just disappeared."

Yi gets up, and he along with you and Al go over to look. You can't see any sign of Gluttony down there, or even the bottom.

"Well, I guess that's one way to get rid of him." Ed shrugs. "I was wondering what we were gonna do, since we only needed one captive anyway."

"So brother, I can transmute without a circle now, too!" Al boasts. "When you applied more blood to my seal, I regained my memory of seeing the Truth."

"Is that so..." Ed replies, seeming not very happy for his little brother. He hangs his head and lets out a heavy sigh. "So you can do that now, too..."

Just then, another person emerges to join your group. It's the Lieutenant Colonel. You didn't expect him to come out here himself.

"Good work, everyone." he tells you. "you managed to capture one of them. Though I can see they certainly don't seem like regular humans. This is some brutal work you had to do here to contain them."

He looks over Lust, and examines how you and Ed restrained her.

"Getting them both could potentially have been even more helpful, but I understand if that's a bit too much to ask. he goes on. "Judging by the hole, that matter seems to have resolved itself."

You have some things to ask Mustang, but you're concerned about Scar. You don't want him trying anything. You grab Al and Yi, and point them over to watch him. Scar isn't making any movements right now, he's probably still weighing his options. But just in case.

You then head over to Mustang and Lust, while Ed joins you. Breaking out your notebook, you write out your questions and concerns. Starting with Gluttony, who you explained was the other one.

"Right. I too doubt that's the last we've seen of him." Mustang answers. "But we don't really have the luxury of going after him. Time is a bit too tight. The rest of the military's forces are a few minutes away from finding this place at most."

You mention that Lust seemed to use "sacrifices" to refer to State Alchemists, and posit that that's why they've all been called to Central recently.

"Sacrifices, you say?" he rubs his chin, looking over Lust again. "Sacrifices for what, I wonder. I'm sure we'll be very interested to learn what that's all about."

Lastly, you question how you're supposed to transport Lust.

"If I'm right, Hawkeye should be here any minute. I'm sure it won't be long." the Lieutenant Colonel tells you. "And Lust here isn't going anywhere. You've got her completely helpless."

At this point, Mustang plunges his hand into Lust's chest. He pulls out a red stone. A Philosopher's Stone, no doubt. It's pretty big, too.

"I'll be taking on your workload, Lust." Mustang says, as he swallows the stone whole. "You've done well, but this seems to be the end of the line for you."

"Three times the work, Envy?" Lust asks, as she starts to turn to dust. "I hope you can handle it. Don't buckle under the pressure, now."

Lust disintegrates completely, and before you or Ed can react, the Lieutenant Colonel punches both of you in the gut. You and Ed both keel over, as that was far from an ordinary punch, His arms were coated with some kind of hard black substance. You look up to see Mustang change to a different shape, a thin man with long spikes of hair. You see a shot from Leah bounce harmlessly off his head.

"I only suspected that you were working for Mustang, but thanks for confirming." the man grins. "Oh boy, first time back home in years, and I get to let loose! Just have to get rid of that pesky Scar now. And the other guy was an alkahestrist, right? Him too. Gotta make it quick though, those soldiers are coming."

Envy walk away from you and Ed, toward Yi and Scar.

You're angry. Everything that everyone did to pull off this operation has gone to waste now, because of him. You clap your hands and press them to the ground. Pulling materials from everything you can, you start to form every dangerous compound you can manage. The most reactive materials you know, that you would never want to touch your flesh, under any circumstances.

This takes quite a bit longer than a normal transmutation however, given all the different sources you're pulling from. In the meantime, Envy has made it over to Yi, and is fighting against him, Al, and Ed, who followed. Scar is still standing over by himself, and you think he must be too injured to fight, if he's still trying to stay out of it. Yi and the Elrics try with all their might to wail on this guy, but it's as if their attacks are doing nothing. They seem to bounce harmlessly off his skin, which shines with a black sheen.

They survive however, long enough to see you about to pull off your attack. They back off, then the Elric brothers transmute the ground to form a barrier around Envy. You bring up all your transmuted material right there. All the acids, and alkalies you could make, and put him in with them.

While your plan was as successful as you hoped it would be, you didn't quite get the result you wanted. That cocktail of yours should have just about obliterated anything made of flesh, there wouldn't even be anything left to scream. But Envy was still alive, shouting out at you.

"You damn humans! What do you think you're doing?" he yells. "I am a homunculus! You're beneath me! And I will become the greatest homunculus of all! I will surpass Pride and become a being second only to Father himself! And you insects won't stop me from taking what is rightfully mine! I won't stand for it!"

Suddenly, something spikes out from inside the barrier. You all have to dive to dodge them. They cut open the barrier, revealing its occupant. Envy's body is still in one piece, though it looks like he's taken a beating. The black sheen of his skin is cracked all over. That's not what should have happened, though. If he was made of flesh, the reactivity would have destroyed him. Whatever is covering him must be absurdly nonreactive. The damage done to his body seems to have only been from the materials you put in there reacting with each other.

However, Envy doesn't seem keen to take any more punishment regardless. You all hear footsteps approaching, and Envy dives into the hole left by Gluttony.

"I won't forget this!" Envy yells as he jumps down. The sound of him eventually fades away.

A car drives up to your group, with Lieutenant Hawkeye at the wheel in civilian clothes. She looks around to see no captured target, and scoffs. "The patrols are almost here. Don't worry about this setback, we still have more opportunities. Just play it cool, and we'll be fine."

She drives off, just in time to miss a large group of soldiers.

"There's Scar!" they shout. "Don't move!"

The soldiers all take up positions surrounding Scar, with their weapons trained on him. By this point, Yi has already slunk away into the shadows, and avoided the soldiers. Leah has also come down from her perch, and joined up with the rest of you. You watch as Scar is surrounded. He doesn't look like he has any hope of escape, even though that was your plan. You had hoped you'd still be able to use him to try again, but perhaps it's for the best.

Just then, a small figure hops in front of Scar. It seems to be a little girl, with a tiny panda on her shoulder.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGXCjIX6w64&

"You've gotten yourself into a lot of trouble, haven't you?" she asks, pulling out some strange knives. "We'll have to retreat."

"A little girl?" one of the soldiers says. "Wait a minute, that girl is-"

She spins, as tosses the knives into the sides of a couple train cars. She then draws an array with her foot and places her hand to it. In an instant, there's an explosion, sending smoke everywhere. Your eyes sting, and you can't see anything.

"Was that alkahestry as well?" you hear Al ask.

Eventually, the smoke clears. Scar and the girl are nowhere to be found. Even though that was part of the plan, you wonder if Bido even managed to follow them. You didn't see sign of him at any point.

"They got away..." one soldier, likely the leader of this squad, scoffs. "Make sure a description of that girl gets out. If anyone sees her, she's to be apprehended immediately."

"Yes, Sir." another soldier replies, before heading off. They also set a couple of soldiers to inspect the hole, before talking with the four of you.

"We're going to be needing reports from you all on this incident." you're told. "You understand. We've got two cars here we can take you back to headquarters in whenever you're ready."

You and Leah turn to the Elrics, and see Al facing away. He turns back towards you quickly, holding his head for some reason.

"So anyway, I guess we'll see you guys around, then." he tells you. "Things may have not worked out this time, but I still think we did a pretty good job."

You and the brothers go your separate ways, and you and Leah end up back at HQ. You give your reports, giving them only the information you want them to hear. They eventually accept it, and let you go without issue.

"What a day." Leah sighs. "I didn't expect things to get that hectic."

There's no time to waste. Mustang needs to know what happened immediately. Though you suppose Yi or the Elrics could fill him in, but you don't want to be left out anyway. At least to tell your side of the story.

You and Leah head to his apartment, then negotiate your way in. Ed and Al are already here, along with Lieutenant Hawkeye.

"Good to see you two." the Lieutenant Colonel says. "The Elrics haven't been here for long. The only thing I've really been told so far besides that we couldn't capture anyone has been that I've been impersonated. We'll have to be extremely careful from now on."

You decide get right to your biggest concern before you worry about disclosing anything else. You sign to Leah, who relays it for you.

"Sir, your involvement in this incident has been revealed." she tells Mustang. "How exactly will this impact you? If the higher ups in the military really know about this, then it's only a matter of time before they take action against you."

"I'm still not entirely sure, myself." Mustang replies. "I'm still expecting the worst. However, if what they said about needing alchemists as sacrifices was true, then I don't think my life is in danger, at least. However, I expect to be watched like a hawk form now on. This is the last time we'll be able to meet in my apartment, and any future meetings we have to discuss strategy must take place elsewhere. Somewhere not so easily compromised. This is a one time incident, and it ended in failure. We are going to give them the impression that we intend to leave it at that, understood?"

Everyone nods. You and Leah go on to explain everything that happened, with Ed and Al chiming in occasionally. You cover the abilities of the homonculi, as well as everything that they said.

"Homunculi. Artificial humans." Mustang mutters. "We know of the existence of at least three of them. Gluttony, Envy, and one called Pride, supposedly the strongest one currently. And we know they consider themselves beneath a 'Father'. It's not a whole lot to go off of, but it is something. We'll have to keep doing what we can to uncover exactly how high up this goes. And trust me, this wasn't a total bust, so don't feel too bad about what happened. You all did a good job. We will get to the bottom of this, and we will keep this country safe. Whatever plot the homonculi are involved in, we won't let Amestris fall prey to it. You'll meet with Yi tomorrow to discuss our next move. Make sure not to arouse any suspicion. As of now, I don't have any word of action being taken against us within the military. If we're lucky, we haven't been considered to have stepped out of our bounds yet. Our next moves will be subtle, until the time comes to go all out. You're all dismissed."

"Yes, Sir." Leah, Hawkeye, and the Elrics say.

The five of you take your leave of the Lieutenant Colonel's apartment and head to your own places for the night. And not a moment too soon, either. The events of today have left you totally drained. As soon as you enter, you flop down on your bed.

"Did you think things were going to get this crazy when we joined?" Leah asks, face down on her own bed. "Cause I for one, keep being taken by surprise."

Despite the rhetorical nature of the question, you almost try to reply anyway. But you're too tired. You just let yourself drift off to sleep.

>Enemies
Scar still plans on killing you, obviously

Lust hated you

Envy hates you and wants to make you suffer next time you meet

Gluttony doesn't think about much at all

>Peers
Still bros with the Elrics, especially now that you've pulled off some sweet tag team shit

Yi is quite impressed with you after today

Mustang is glad to have a talented subordinate that will do what he's told and won't talk back

>Envy hates you and wants to make you suffer next time you meet

yeah dropping every acidic, poisonous/corrosive gas, alkali material we can create on to a person is going to earn you some enmity

Is it weird I want to lure Envy into a killzone we prepared, snap our fingers while he's monologuing to get his attention, then smile before setting it off? I really want to see the look on this face if that ever happens.
