The Raiders

The pen glides across the vellum in slow, smooth strokes as you scribe the incantation into your grimoire. This is one of your own discoveries, not one of the many taken from stolen volumes gathered in countless raids over the decades. At least, you presume decades, as time is meaningless here. The slow progression of ink to paper, line to word, word to spell is soothing in its flowing grace and you take pleasure as the final inscription dries upon the calfskin paper.

“You should really invest in an enchanted tome,” the warm contralto of your visitor suggests.

Laying the pen down, you turn the padded stool to look at her. “What makes you say that?” you query, admiring the sleek copper-skinned beauty that is lounging on the pillow-fortified resting cushions. The golden chains and rubies she is adorned with glitter in the heat-less firelight of the bespelled brazier in the corner of the room.

Noting your gaze she smiles archly and languidly poses for you, her crimson eyes glittering under the mane of rich garnet colored hair. Utterly unnatural, but so is she. “You would be able to carry more spells during the raids than that volume would allow for, naturally. What is the point of having the ability to learn numerous spells and castings if you cannot access them all the time?” She pushes several pillows away, an obvious and unsubtle invitation to join her.

You seriously consider doing so as you turn back to check the ink. “I prefer it this way. Magical tomes are tricky business, and they also attract attention. No one thinks twice about a simple leather-bound book with naught more than an embossed cover, but gilding and gems and unusual leathers catch the eye.” You close said leather-bound tome and run your fingers along your mark. “That aside, I would dislike having someone demand a trade for such a thing after the spoils are divided and I have scribbled my own spells within. I prefer my efforts to be rewarded.”

Rising, you look at the transformed dragon lying upon your resting pallet and remove your heavily decorated sash as you approach. She smiles more brazenly, and plays with the chains that keep the long loincloth in place suggestively. “You are in an accommodating mood tonight, Yzia. Are you looking to expand your hoard with some of my own treasures and baubles?” It is more jest than actual inquiry; you have both earned more than enough to satisfy mere greed. Status, on the other hand....

“Is it not enough to have one of the most puissant of gish as my rider and companion?” she teases mildly, watching with eager eyes as you discard your belts and free your tunic from bondage. “Power is always arousing.”

You unbuckle your trousers and pull the tight leather from your body, watching her enjoy the show you make of it. Tossing your dark hair back over your shoulders as you rise, you make a warding gesture. “Only a dragon would think so,” you reply as you approach, lowering yourself to crawl across the thickly padded cushions to crawl towards her, over her.

Yzia laughs softly, her hands coming up to caress your firm breasts through the pale silk of your tunic. “You are so young,” she complains lightly at your dismissal of her claim. You make a soft, pleased noise, and lower your mouth to hers....only to be interrupted by a soft, vibrant hum inside your mind. Her eyes open, glowing faintly from within. “Seems my lady is jealous.”

“No, she is telling us that someone is coming down the hallway. Smells like Gero.” Even in her human form, Yzia possesses the uncanny senses of her kind.

[X] Have your Lady bar the way to him, as you are busy.

“Close the door, Siobhan,” you call out.

The the melodious crackle of shifting crystal and glass erupts from across the room as your lady materializes a nearly opaque wall across the open doorway to your cell. Yzia gives you a throaty chuckle before you quiet her with a deep, involved kiss, your hands sliding though her thick, gemstone colored hair. You press her legs apart with your knee and insinuate yourself between them, much to her eager delight.

“Akko, you are such a selfish girl....” she murmurs when you break the kiss, gasping for breath.

Allowing her to divest you of your tunic, you look into her glowing eyes of liquid fire, pupils like four pointed stars widening as she focuses upon your face. “Just because you are several centuries older than I, does not mean I am not several centuries old myself, you know.” Lowering your mouth to kiss her throat, she arches her back and rubs warm metal and hot gems across your pale skin. “Besides,” you murmur between kisses down her body, “a dragon....should never....ever....accuse someone else....of being selfish....or greedy.” Yzia gasps as you lock your mouth over the peak of a full breast and suckle insistently.

A deep bass hum erupts through the room and the crystalline wall shatters, the shards of the astral materiel fading quickly. You pause in your suckling to look up at Yzia, who doesn't look alarmed, only interested. That means you don't have to worry about a knife in the back, or that it is a knight or the supreme leader.

[X] Ask if this interruption is worth his life, and then continue adoring your dragon.

You lift your head slowly, eyes closing, and Yzia looks over your shoulder at the intruder. “Gero, you had better have a very good reason for interrupting me if you do not want to see your innards spattered all across the dueling fields tomorrow.” Letting your tongue lip from between your lips you circle with, and slide it over, the peak of Yzia's other breast. That elicits a soft sigh and some lovely squirming from the copper skinned beauty beneath you.

“Lord Dunzamn has accepted a request by a large kingdom of humans that we assault an elven nation they are at war with,” he says, after a few seconds of staring.

Flicking Yzia's nipple rather hard with your tongue-tip makes her giggle, and you murmur a rather distracted response. “So we are mercenaries now? That is disgusting and hardly worth telling me while I am busy.” You wriggle your way lower, kissing and licking the smooth, hard belly beneath you, your hands coming up to cover your dragon's breasts. Not out of modesty – she coos as you dig your nails into those soft mounds.

“He intends to raid both parties, and take every noble-born female in each land for ransom.” You close your eyes, wishing he would get to the point or go away. You distract yourself form vision of gutting him like you would cattle and feeding him to Yzia as a treat by playing with the shimming silver sphere in her navel with your tongue, much to her delight. “He is willing to grant the raiders slave taking privilege – one for every ten caught.”

Yzia and you look into each others eyes simultaneously. He may have just bought his life back.

[X] Takers choice, or the knight's choice? It makes a difference.

Giving Yzia's breasts one more good squeeze, letting her feel your nails digging into her soft human-like flesh, you wriggle back a little more, as she spreads her arms and legs, smirking at the warrior while you unhook her loincloth chains. You pull the chains off to one side, and she doesn't notice or ignores the sensation of the hard chains sliding from underneath her.

“Gero, if you have not gotten to the point by the time I have made Yzia close her eyes in ecstasy, I will see you in the dueling field in one turning, where I will cut you in half in three strikes, set fire to your still connected insides as your waist and chest float in opposite directions, and then feed you to Yzia while you are still alive.” Yzia giggles breathlessly as you wrap your arms around her thighs. “That should take about an alphabet's worth of licks.” Since your native tongue has about fifty sigils, that should be enough time for him to tell you what in the Dead Gods' Names he wants.

“I will give you your weight in void crystal if you assist me in taking twenty prisoners, and give you one of my slaves besides!” The hurried rush of his explanation would make you laugh if you weren't tongue deep in feminine musk and liquors and enjoying every second of it. The lack of an immediate answer prompts him to up his offer though. “Half your weight in void crystal and three weapons-weight in deep crystal!”

Yzia is watching your efforts, enraptured, but not so much though she doesn't point out one thing. “And....huuu....and my share?” she murmurs breathlessly as you work your tongue between the soft folds and heated petals attentively.

He seems startled, and then almost bellows. “TWICE AKKO'S WEIGHT IN VOIDCRYSTAL AND SIX WEAPONS-WEIGHT IN DEEP CRYTAL!”

You lift your head (flicking your tongue-tip against the pearl of your dragon's sex in doing so, making her throw her head back and close her eyes in bliss) and ask a question. “The knight's choice in slaves, or the raider's choice? Dunzamn is generous, but I am not interested in third or fourth best, in case you had not noticed.” Your Lady sings in your mind, reveling in your praise, and Yzia laughs, a throaty, liquid chuckle that ends in a shocked gasp as you plunge your tongue as deep as you can manage.

“Raider's choice!” He's almost panicking now. “I just want my choice of the two that we catch!”

Yzia would probably have laughed at him, but her hands are buried in your hair and her breaths are catching as you ply your skills upon her. You can practically hear him sweating bullets as you ignore him in favor of pleasing your dragon, and all your concentration becomes focused upon her. Five....four....three....

Yzia gasps finally, convulsing and undulating against you, pressing herself into your attentive mouth as you finish her. It doesn't take her long to push you away, though, oversensitive as she becomes after such a glorious climax. You laugh and roll onto your back against her leg, running your fingers across your shining lips and chin.

“Fine. Twice my weight in Void crystal, six weapons-weight in deep crystal, and the second choice of your slaves when we have caught a score and two for you. AFTER I have caught my own ten and one.” Gero is blushing and staring at you, like some childer might. “For the sake of the Dead Gods, Gero, go offer yourself to a breeder before you stain my floors.” Yzia laughs and he quickly bolts from your room, while she sits up and wraps her arms about your shoulders. “I think I will make a Soul Doll out of the void crystal, and stuff his soul inside it as a toy.”

“Forget him my love....shall we bathe and go see Lord Dunzamn?” She nibbles on your neck lightly and you tilt your head with a soft purr.

[X] Yes, I think that might be a good idea.
[X] ….what do you have in mind, you wicked dragon?

You turn your head and share her taste in a kiss, which she does not refuse; you have had other lovers who did, which you always thought was strange. When you finally break the kiss, you smile up at her, satisfied in your having pleasured her so well that you're willing t wait a bit. “What are you thinking, Yzia? You would not interrupt an evening's pleasure for some small thing.”

Her eyes brighten, quite literally; her pupils flare, the dark crosses becoming hot stars of white fire. “I want a princess....a true princess! Elven maid or human bairn, I want one or the other, Akko. If Dunzamn will tell us what kingdoms we seek to raid, it may be that I know the lay of the land despite this timeless place. Elves age slowly enough.” Her nails dig into your arms a little, but a little pain is nothing.

“A human maiden will no more age in this place than an elven maiden,” you point out to her, but she shakes her head.

“Not the point! The point is a princess!”

You can't help but laugh as you turn around, pressing your bosom to hers. “You may be centuries older than I, but you're no ancient wyrm with such wicked thoughts, Yzia!” She looks at you, but the nascent wrath fades as she realizes you are not making fun of her at all. “I want one of each, myself. An elf, and a human. Someone for my Lady Siobhan to possess even, if we can manage another ten and one of our own. So if one is your princess, it will be enough.” And you have to admit....a pampered aristocrat to play with in so many extraordinary ways would stave off ennui for decades, perhaps centuries.

Pushing yourself up you are gratified to see her eyes light up in an entirely different and less literal manner when she is faced with your dampened loincloth. Her hands slide up your hips and she divests you of the leather and silk, tracing the softness of your shaven sex. “Why do you do that to yourself,” she muses mildly, the rhetorical question mere musing.

With a wicked smile you run your hands along her cheeks, caressing her ears through the thick hair she wears. “Because I enjoy the terror the slaves express when I give them a silver razor to use on my body and tell them what will happen if they cut me.” She looks up at you, her eyes glittering with amusement. “You never chose me because I was kind, Yzia,” you remind her as she kisses your mons softly, her fingers covering the soft cleft below.

“No, I did not,” she agrees. “Would we could spend more time than merely bathing, but the spell will not last so long a that. I would not wish to put Dunzamn out by requesting he come to us.”

“Ah well....I am not impatient.” You take her hands and 'help' her to her feet; Siobhan provides you with a gossamer shift of rainbow material, making you smile for her. “Thank you, my Lady.” The ancient Silver Sword purrs in your mind, which apparently Yzia seems to find amusing as you walk to the bathing spheres.

Knight Dunzamn is one of those who serves the Goddess personally, and is no laughing matter. Still you have not been formally commanded or politely requested yet, so this is on your own terms – for the moment.

[X] Allow the meeting to be casual for the moment. (Social Arms and Minimal Regalia.)

Yzia, being a dragon, ignores what few social mores your people have; while her appearance is that of somewhat unusual human, she is no more human than you are. Most of your differences are under the flesh and in the mouth, of course, but the less observant would mistake you for human or even an undead one. They would terribly wrong, not to mention insulting, if they said so aloud of course.

The bathing spheres are not far from the living cells. Carved into the ancient stone brought to this place millennia ago, and grown and modified with psychic force and spellcraft, the Stronghold spans miles and contains a variety of environs. The bathing spheres are still one of your favorite locations. The cavern is cut into decorative mazes that lead to and from the entries and exits, each one having a wall surrounding it. Only movement by will is allowed here and with good reason; the spheres of water that are centered upon glowing gems of varied colors give up part of their mass to those who bathe or swim within them, and the excess must be flung off to the walls, where it follows the channels to be gathered by the Makers and cleansed before being returned to the spheres that float in the weightlessness.

If gravity were to be allowed, it would be quite a horrendous mess.

You and Yzia move to one of the spheres and immerse yourself sliding into the viscous water heated by the gem at its center. She slides her body against yours from behind and you spin in her arms, laughing noiselessly before kissing her quite thoroughly. Embracing your companion, you allow her to slide her hands under the gossamer shift to scrub you down with her nails, arching in pleasure as she very (very) gently bites your neck to keep you in place. Your reciprocation is problematic only because the many chains, intricately fastened to one another, get in the way. The bite you give her, the spurs of bone that jut from your upper and lower jaw digging into her inhumanly firm flesh, is much harder and equally harmless.

She uses thick oils to cleans and perfume your hair, scooping them from the gem in the center of the pool you are using; hers needs no such treatment, as it will only exist for another two turnings at most. Pulling the oils from your hair she slings them out of the sphere of water to float to the walls along with the water that clings to the globules of scented oil. Another couple joins you, a male and female of your own kind, though clearly lovers. They certainly do not act like a breeding pair, far too intimate. She looks like she could give as good as she gets, he seems more the quiet murderer kind, as he lacks scars. Respectable, if not glorious.

You and Yzia acknowledge them in passing, and they you, and nothing more; socializing in the bathing spheres is rare at best outside breeding pair concubines soothing irritable warriors, gish, and knights. Sliding from the water, you and she grip one another's hands and orient yourselves so that your feet will point towards the walls regardless of your direction, and you spin, gazing into each others eyes a pinwheel of potential death, magic, flame and beauty. Well, the last is definite. The others potentials oft realized.

The water that clings to you both is slung towards the walls, leaving you both warm and dry; then it us towards the center, where your troves are kept. Yzia glides around you, teasing with glimpses of feminine flesh and grace, her smile vicious and playful. You bare your spurs at her and she laughs at you, as you arrive at your trove.

Th crystalline wall melts away at your touch, allowing you both entrance; the gold, gems, cloth, weapons, furnishings, and tomes that litter the place organized according to your peculiar mindset as both warrior and spellcrafter. You open a strangely angular container that holds carious items of clothing, and you outfit yourself appropriately for turning where you'll have no duels nor expectation to be called to join a raid. The bracers you retain; they are armor enough for now; another sash, this one bejeweled and brocaded with your accomplishments and insignia of ranks and deeds, rather than your duties and weapons and chain of command. You really should have brought the other here, but Yzia is awfully distracting.

“Excuse me, Gish Akko; may I enter?” You turn to the entrance, half dressed; Yzia smirks and studies Warrior Falna with amusement. She thought she was too good to be your lover a few decades ago; the past few raids proved you the better. She's dressed in her full Regalia; armor, Silver Sword, raider's sash, a poignard. She looks impressive, for a Warrior.

[X] Call Siobhan to you, and then allow her entry; she can earn her time perhaps.

Siobhan, my Lady, my Love, I need you.

Her joy in your desire and need, even if it merely for her presence, is a resounding exultation on your mind. Yzia glances at you, smiling wickedly, and then settles herself on a pile of jewels and coins of gold and silver. Her movement catches Falna's eye and the Warrior gives the human-shaped dragon a studied look, giving her dangerous nature proper respect.

Reaching into the clothing container, you feel Siobhan – and your war-sash, kiss her quicksilver heart – along the side of the container. Placing the war-sash on a pair of hooks, you take out a brassier and fasten it properly. “You may enter,” you grant graciously. Falna steps inside respectfully, careful not to stand to close to any of your trove, or to you. “I trust you are not about to tell me I have orders. It would be very inconvenient for us both.” Yzia smiles and runs her fingers through the coins she is laying on, recognizing you don't necessarily mean that it would be inconvenient for her.

“No, Gish Akko,” she replies, which causes you to slow your explorations f the contents of the wooden device. She is being awfully formal for not carrying orders. Surely she isn't that afraid of you.

Surely.

“I have come to ask if you will consider me for a subordinate position.” Picking up a black silk blouse with lapels and belt hoops for your Regalia, you pull it carefully over your head and shoulders, arranging it once it is close against your skin. You then turn, and start strapping belts and sash to it. “I understand that you have had great success as a second for the Knights and those Champions who have required your services. I would appreciate the cast off of that glory.”

You can't help but let your lips curl into a slow, cruel smile. You take Siobhan from the wooden container and you are elated at how her eyes widen; it is not as though she doesn't have her own Silver Sword, but yours is....mmm....dedicated, is a nice word for it. Perhaps, enamored. Yzia pours a handful of gold into her mouth and chews, slowly, a bead of liquid gold dripping from the corner as the coinage melts.

[X] That is....interesting. Do you think you are worthy of me now?

“I suppose I should be flattered to be thought of as so highly competent that those who serve under me are bathed in glory as well,” you comment, giving her a wry smile – and being very careful not to bare the spurs of bone that seem to take the place of canine teeth in most other humanoids. You don't want to insult her that badly quite yet. Yzia might have been teasing you cruelly, but your time with Falna meant something to you, at least, even if it meant so little to her.

Also, Yzia is a dragon, and you can't really threaten her with your teeth, human form or not.

Pulling on a pair of black chamois gloves, that barely reach to your bracers, you study Falna carefully. She doesn't seem to have been bothered by the suggestive nature of your comment, so you decide to push a few other buttons, test the waters further. “You know, you were a worthwhile warrior before. I have little doubt you have improved your techniques and skills, at least some. Serving under me might give you a better appreciation for the things that I have learned.” Yzia snickers, and that does make Falna's cheeks color. “Still, I have some doubt. You truly think you are worth the time and effort I would be forced to spend upon you being under me?”

Falna's mouth twitches just a touch. “Since you have a mate, I was under the impression....” The look you and Yzia give her forestalls further comment.

When you both burst out with laughter she looks between the two of you, and her mouth positively writhes with the effort of not baring her spurs at you. “She is my companion, and I am her chosen rider, but she is a dragon....we are no more mates than you are a male!” Falna slowly forces herself into a state of calm. Sneering at her you walk towards her seemingly unarmored, and wearing only the most basic of Regalia at that. “I realize you might not have been interested in me as a mate, but I am of the mind that it was quite abrupt and not a little insulting to be cast aside for a slightly more capable Warrior, as opposed to having been told I was of lesser interest than you suggested. Even sharing unspoken or being told I was uninteresting and no longer worth your time would have been preferable to summary dismissal from your command as a form of rejection.” You incline your head, tapping the place where her badge had rested, replaced with your own. “It would have been more honest, at the very least.”

Her face colors and she takes a step back, her voice cool. “I can see that you are as passionate as ever. Should I reconsider my request?”

“Oh yes, I have always been that. Fairly honest in my demands for affection and generous with them. You, on the other hand, are cold, very very cold. I find it a touch....” You shake your head. “Pah.”

[X] Your request is granted. Get out of my sight.

She stands stock still, looking at you. You look at her, letting her see that this has an emotional investment for you, that you have feeling about this situation, not all good, nor all bad. “Attend.” You feel Siobhan become alert, and Falna's sword as well. Several others in the vicinity, the closest maybe thirty or so paces distant, the furthest you can sense three times that distance away, also focus their attentions upon you. “I accept Warrior Falna's request to be placed under my service until one or the other of us breaks said service under Attendance by the Silver Swords or the Silver Cord is cut.” The relief in her eyes is surprising, in a way. It must have mattered more than she though. Or she's going to assassinate you, but then, that isn't exactly a new situation.

Siobhan accepts the oath, and the other Silver Swords relay to one another the new chains of command. It will take a few hours for the knowledge to become commonplace, but the few that know are enough. Yzia grins and pps another con into her mouth before she rises, walking to you. As she draps herself long your shoulder, you narrow your eyes at Flana, who snaps to attend you. You slide your arm about the dragons hips and give Falna a hard glare. “Get out of my sight until you are called for, Warrior Falna.”

Her face flushes, but her eyes flick to the dragon in disgust, or fear....ah. That must have been her issue with you. Xenophobic, perhaps. Or maybe she's just afraid of dragons. Which anyone should be, but yours is at least talkative. With that last look she takes her leave, returning down the hall she approached from at a high rate of movement.

“You are such a drama queen,” Yzia murmurs as she nuzzles your neck.

Leaning into her, you slide your hand down her bottom and squeeze, drawing your nails along her impossibly firm skin, which earns you a soft sigh. “Staves off ennui, does it not, Yzia? Come, we have only a short while longer for your transformation to be maintained. I do not have anything prepared for shaping you into something suitable to sit in on a meeting with Lord Dunzamn.”

“I have heard he is stiff enough for me to sit upon in my natural form and enjoy it,” she comments and you swat her quite hard, which mostly hurts your hand.

“You do not talk about the Lord Knights that way, you insane beast,” you chide as you turn and kiss away the gold flake along her lips. “And stop eating my trove You have your own.”

“It doesn't taste as good,” she complains mildly as you and she move into the hall, pausing only to let the barrier reform completely. “Everything about you tastes better.”

“....stop teasing me, or I will take you aside and see how true that is.”

“Promise?”

“Depends. How badly do you want that princess?” You laugh as she darts ahead of you, though her lead is only momentary.

You traverse the Great Emptiness between the Centerpoint and the Blooms, and it is not long before you approach the garden where Lord Dunzamn is currently meditating in one of the more forest-heavy Blooms. You slow to a respectful speed, and land, settling for walking towards him. Even after millennia, the old ways stay with you. Without opening his eyes he lets you know he is at least open to discussion if not causal talk. “You smell like a cathouse, Akko. Those oils cannot cover up your debauchery.”

[X] He seems tense; but he did insult you, so lightening the mood is safe.

Lord Knight Dunzamn is ancient by most standards. His association with the power of Her Majesty has started to take its tole; his skin has paled, his ears sharpened, and his eyes burn always. The potency that it grants him is terrifying, and his merest touch can imbue horrors and curses too many to count easily. He might not be the Supreme Leader of this enclave, but he's close enough to become one of his own enclave.

Unless Her Majesty consumes his soul of course. You're not nearly that powerful yet, praise the Dead Gods Bodies.

He opens his eyes and as he does so his True Silver Sword opens her awareness of you. You feel a chill roll down your spine, and then Siobhan's awareness washes over you like a warm blanket. Dunzamn's blade finds that somewhat amusing in a calculating way, and her awareness leaves yours.

Despite that, Dunzamn's eyes look you over, taking note of new badges and honors on your lesser sash. Yzia gets a slow look over, and she smiles and runs her hand through your hair slowly, almost possessively, which earns her a faint smirk; his dragon is the elder of the two and she is no threat to a knight of his caliber. Just the faintest lightening of his brow and the tiniest hint of relaxation reassures you even more that he isn't concerned you are here to assassinate or challenge him unofficially. You help the idea along by taking his insult and running with it.

“Ah, by the Dead Gods, Lord Dunzamn, I have not had a tabaxi slave to attend my desires in over three decades, maybe two score!” With a touch of hope you lean close. “If you happen to have been insulted by someone who has a tabaxi or catfolken slave or two extra, do let me be your executor of will, won't you, my Lord?” You lick your spurs, which makes his eyes widen a touch. “I would happily give you a hard share of such a bounty....”

He tries to keep a straight face, but fails and finally cracks a smile. “If you were a breeder, you would never lack for honors and badges, I would lay glass and crystal on it.” You give him a smug smile and stand up, looking down at him as he floats a few feet above the grassy walking way. “What do you want, then, if not to take slaves from less deserving?”

Yzia tenses behind you, and you would swear you can feel her tail lashing and her wings quivering. “I understand you are collecting elven and human aristocracy, my Lord Knight....I was curious as to whether or not you would allow me to lead a cadre in your raid. I think I could offer my body weight in voidglass for the privilege....”

Incidentally, Akko is a version of A-Ko, which is a stand in for the principle character for an anime. (A-Ko= A Character, B-Ko is B-Character, C-Ko, etc.)

So I'm calling the MC Anon by proxy.

We will most likely continue tomorrow night at near the same time, perhaps a little later.
>>
>>823123
As somebody unfamiliar with, um, whatever the MC is, could you link me to a crash course on the subject if possible?
>>
>>823140
The MC is a Githyanki, except humanized in most ways.

The githyanki is a militant culture of psychically talented being that live on the astral planes; they were enslaved by the powerfully psychic mind flayers (aka illithids) and broke free of their masters by developing psychic powers. Ther leader, Gith, eventually became a lich and partly a deity; the githyanki worship her as a goddess and their raiding is a way to appease her desires and sustain their culture.

Physically they appear uman, but their eyes tend to be yellow, red, or brown, an they have four 'fangs' that seperate their incisors from their premolars. These are spurs of bone that grow from their jaws and are collored slightly differently; they use them in emotional displays.

They live int he astral, where biological processes and time are nonexsitent - our heroine only appears to be in her early 20's; she's closer to 5 o 7 hundred years old. Breathing, eating, sleeping, and breeding are all suspended unless you use specific abilities to do so. Movement is by will as well. Theyalso have ties to a clan of dragons that assist them in their cross-planar raids, of which Yzia is part of (an adult, so a few centuries older than Akko, and still childish in a few ways).

>>

Two other interesting notes.

While the Githyanki entry in the original Fiend Folio is credited with the creation of the 'gish' class of character, fighter-magic user dual class characters, there is another class that the githyanki had before anyone else: the antipaladin. Githyanki Knights were actually antipaladins of their Lich-Queen, not simply fighters.

Second, Akko has a few psychic powers, like all her kind, so she doesn't see them as unusual or noteworthy, and will simply 'use them' rather than focusing on them like she will her spellcasting.

I have deliberately humanized the looks of githyanki in this story, using more of their culture than their actual appearance.

>>823150
Dunno. It's not impossible, certainly, but it is somewhat unlikely for the moment. But you're definitely going to get into a fight soon as you seek to catch enough aristocrats to secure your promised rewards and slaves.

On the other hand, it might be interesting to have a fight with a githzerai in the chaos of Limbo....and then maybe in the Astral Plane as well. Non-con sex is just a bonus.

Does the cessation of aging prevent the dragons from gaining age related strengths?
>>
>>823138
My I ask where this picture comes from?
>>
>>823396
I found it on /u/.
>>
>>823316
Most dragons cease aging and thus do not gain their age related powers - Yzia and her kind (which are outer dragons) are of this type.

Some dragons (Esoteric and Primal) do not suffer this condition, which makes the Astral a place to gain significant personal power. Unfortunately it's difficult to amass wealth because the astral doesn't have much, and what it does have is usually things like Githyanki strongholds and Dead Gods.
>>
>>823629
Seems like a hindrance for Yzia, what's her age physically compared to the total? Does she go hang out on the material plane now and then?

She does, as do many Githyanki raiders; they can take as long as several years or even as long as a decade to complete missions and raids in various planes.

Since time does not pass in the Astral, decades and even centuries can pass in the various prime material planes so the concept of 'time passing' is more a case of personal experience. Both Yzia and Akko are centuries old, though Yzia has a few more than Akko. The main issue is ennui and boredom, which can slowly overwhelm a person's sense of desire, need, and well being. Part of the reason that githyanki tend owards order and evil is because a sense of order staves off boredom through necessary duty, while evil keeps them sharp and on their toes, wary of assassination and power plays to disrupt their lives and status. Wealth is not nearly as important as things (and people) to do.

What I find terribly amusing about this complaint is that the same scenes could be written from a nearly male PoV.

Part 1, Session 2

Although it has cost you half your body weight in void crystal and two weapons weights in deep crystal – paid immediately – you have bribed your way into Lord Knight Dunzamn's chain of command as a cadre leader. Worth it, as you'll be receiving much more of both from Gero after the successful raid upon the human and elven kingdoms that Dunzamn has planned to assault in force to collect ransom for the return of aristocracy and leaders.

Yzia does recognize the elven Kingdom by name, though it has been well over four centuries since she had last been on a raid their in the passage of time for that existence. However that only means that she will know some of the elders and it is doubtful much has changed since last she was involved in a raid there. The downside, of course, if that they will remember the last raid. Tactically, it is unfortunate, but Dunzamn is not a fool.

You hope.

Now however, you have another problem, though it is less of a problem and more of an opportunity. Dunzamn has made it clear he wants you to run at least a full cadre; that would be a minimum of four raiders. Walking through the glades of the Bloom, you determine the most likely candidates. Gero and Falna, of course, are warriors. Yourself, a strong gish. Yzia can carry four people easily without issue in her natural form. So that leaves you with one more to select for the raid, with a variety of tools at your disposal to convince them to join your cadre.

“Who will you be courting next?” Yzia asks, moving ahead of you and turning to face you, gliding a few inches above the soft grass through the power of her will. You walk, simply because the feel of the loam and plant life under our feet is a pleasant sensation. Her quartered irises glimmer in the half-light of the Turning Gem near the top f the crystal dome that covers this Bloom of the fortress. “I will happily take yo there, but I cannot remain. We have only moments before I revert.”

“I am not courting anyone – my Lady and yourself are as close to that sort of behavior as I want to come.” She laughs and pirouettes slowly as you approach a gateway that will allow you access to the Astral Fundament itself. “I am considering a knight, I think, though there is that pretty Yashi to consider....”

“That illusionist? What an interesting idea. I do not recall you taking one of them on a raid before.” She lets you walk a little closer to her; her nails and hair are glowing from within, the spell of transformation she used wearing thin. A couple of quick steps and you catch hold of the chains that decorate her bosom, and she allows you to drag her to you for a slow, deep kiss and a slow, gentle caress of her taut belly. “Mmmn. I will look forward to the next time I may take this form. Or perhaps another.”

“No catfolken. That was a joke.” She smiles as you reach the gateway. The trio of warriors step away, allowing the maker to shift the metal bars out of your way through the power of his mental force alone. You move through the gate ad Yzia follows....and her spell fragments.

A burst of heat engulfs you as she takes her true form, a vast shape of claws, scales, wings, and horns. You feel the pressure of her existence against your mind, her true nature blazing in your mind; you resist it, though your eyes water and the scorching sensation along your skin remains. It is only her presence that does that; her heat and blinding radiance more a thing of spirit than of flesh. Shifting shimmers of gold flow along her ruby scales, and she circles you slowly.

Beautiful.

Come, my lovely gish, and I will take you where you wish to go. Her voice is as sweet and sultry in this form as in her unnatural one and you move to the thicket of horns and spines along her head and neck. They have been sculpted – not cut or carved, but through careful binding with bands and chains of crystal, grown – into a place where you may sit at the back her her neck and ride there.

The chains that adorned her human form have returned to their natural form as well, grips and semi-harness to be held fast and used to secure yourself in battle if necessary. Siobhan, seek Yashi. Your Silver Sword contacts others, and it is not long before you are given the sensation of a small, closed space in response. “She is in her cell, Yzia.” Wrapping the delicate seeming chains about one wrist and both your ankles, you let Yzia pull you through the mist of the infinite Astral.

Yzia's amusement at your change of mind echoes through your mind and body. It makes you shiver, not unpleasantly. You are so very easy, she claims, and you frame the image of Yzia in human form being tied to a set of crystalline frames and whipped. Her amusement is even more pronounced. That would be little more than foreplay, Akko.

“I know,” you murmur, eliciting more laughter as she swoops around and down the conical stems that lead from the base of the Bloom towards the spherical Center of the stronghold. “I will see if she has enchantments or necromancies to assist us. If her spells are not suitable, I will turn my attention back towards the knight.”

Before or after you have your way with Yashi? the massive beauty teases as she moves in a wingless swoop towards the column where the living cells of the spellcasters are. Her wings are of no use in this place, of course – it is by her will alone that she traverses the expanses of the Astral.

“Why not both? Knights are too staid for my pleasure,” you reply.

She pulls up and you unwind the chains from ankles and wrist, and move to face the massive dragon, her irises cascading fire from the burning white stellar crosses of her pupils.

[X] So what if she's a dragon, kiss her anyways.

You move closer, and she pulls back slightly, unable to focus on you so easily when you are that close to her massive maw. You follow however, unwilling to be denied what you desire. She allows you that movement and you sink below her thick facial plates to her actual maw. You lay your hands along her lower jaw, caressing the thick barbs and spurs that just from just below her 'lips'....and kiss her.

Her surprise is total, and she parts her jaws slightly in her shock; you lick the inner membrane along her glowing golden maw, ignoring the acidic, metallic taste along your tongue in favor of the pleasure of having shocked a dragon with a kiss. Tastes of mercury, you whisper to her in thought, your hands moving from lower jaw to upper, caressing the strangely smooth scales, and then letting your hands slip to touch ruby fangs that jut from within her jaw.

Such intensity for such a tiny thing, she murmurs back, her entire body shuddering hard enough that you pull back for your own safety. Fare the well, my precious plaything.

Are you so certain I am your plaything, Yzia? you tease, and then you laugh as she huffs mentally at you, before turning and moving towards the Center, where her kind are housed amongst their troves.

Finding an entry to the column is not difficult; they are well guarded but not invisible. Though only an idiot would attempt to break into the spellcaster's cells; the penchant for self-development that lead to the exodus from the masters' grasp holds strong to this day, and wizardry is only one more method of training the mind. Not nearly as potent as the psychic abilities, but far more versatile.

The trio of guardians at this gate includes a psychic and a wizard, as well as a young knight, bu your sash announces you outrank all three. They allow you entry, the rock folding away as the wizard incants a litany and plays with a small piece of clay, only to close once you have passed through. From there it is down a series of dimly lit halls, crystalline doorways shimmering with power, and a few open ones. The one you seek is also open, and you cease to move, instead choosing to stand upon what serves as a floor at the moment to study the illusionist you sought.

Short tousled hair cannot hide her elongated ears; she is old, but her skin and frame remain youthful. It is clear she does not spend very much time at all outside the astral. Standing before a full length mirror of simple glass backed by silver, she studies her reflection. Her eyes list to acknowledge you are there, the yellow of her irises pale in her age. Perhaps a thousand, maybe more? That is no indicator or power or skill of course.

Her sashes float in the air, and they tell you enough; she is capable of fifth order spells, so she is less powerful than you, but those marks, badges and honors she does have are largely in defense of the stronghold and include several raids against the masters and the [traitors alike, rather than against the material plane denizens.

Yashi smooths the almost translucent material of the void crystal-adorned gown she wears; her slender frame is a lithe shadow beneath it and you can see the beginning of the cleft of her buttocks exposed by the edge of the back. It pools slightly at her feet, silver beads and pearl-like water opals edging it. The pale milkiness of the voidglass along her upper breasts and neck, and along the back edge of her gown are shimmering with living blue fire in the material, while the sleeves are wide but closed. More silver beads and water opal fastens those to her wrists. She wears several rings, crystalline and metal alike, and you have little doubt there is much power there.

Her pale eyes glance back up at you as she lays a delicate hand along her perky breasts; her nipples puffy in her apparent and entirely false youth, but not peaked. She looks back at her reflection, studying it in silence once more. Nubile, yes, but not a single hint of her true age save her eyes and her badges.

[X] Remain where you are, and introduce yourself formally, with interest displayed.

You lean against her doorway, which prompts another of those long looks, and let yourself smile slowly. “When Gish Hadal said that you were more capable than you appeared, I expected a wizened ancient, or a battle scarred veteran of long siege.” The raider had told you of Yashi when you were asking about the tactical use of illusionists against the masters. It seemed strange, back then, that illusion was the most cultivated combat spellcasting technique, only second to the more generalized wizardry.

Yashi lowers her eyes to the floor when she speaks, and it is only a single soft word in a voice that sends shivers down your spine. “Flattery.” Dead Gods but you want her to read to you for an hour! It would probably bring you to orgasm.

Shaking off the glamour, you salute her, touching the fingers of your left hand to your forehead. She watches you in the mirror, lowering her hands to her side. “I am Gish Akko, Illusionist Yashi. I wish to formally request your serve in a raiding cadre under my own command.” You let her see that you are not just asking abut that, though – she is shapely, and surprisingly delicate. You knew she was delicate, but you were not expecting her to be unaged.

Siobhan hums softly in your mind (and from the look on Yashi's face, hers as well), prompting a glance down the hall. A knight and two warriors, undoubtedly looking for a fourth as well. Turning your attention back to Yashi, you're somewhat surprised to see her looking at you from the mirror still, rather than turning around. Standing tall you politely ask “May I enter, Illusionist Yashi?”

Her old, pale eyes glance down at the floor, then up at you again, still focusing on you in the mirror. “Yes.” You wonder what exactly that terribly sensual voice would look like if she made an illusion out of it. You kind of wonder what it would be like to fuck her voice, actually.

Yashi suddenly smiles, a tiny, almost adorable little smile.

Ah. It's not an ordinary mirror.

Age is relative in the astral plane. 100 years passing in the astral is almost meaningless, unless you're hunting things and killing people and fighting your way up the ranks and in status. Spend 20 years in a material plane and it will age you harder, but githyanki age slowly anyways (350 is an elderly age for them).

What that means in Yashi's case is that she's spent almost all her time on the astral, possibly three or four thousand years, but what she has been doing has gained her enough experience that she's nearly an equal to Akko (in other words 10th-11th level) who is a 400-700 year old professional raider with enough rank to order low-level knights around (around 12-15th level).

Siobhan, lock the door after us, if you do not mind, my lady. The amusement that she takes in creating a crystalline barrier to the outside world is made up of equal parts eagerness and malicious glee; she, at least, thinks they were going to be troublesome. Thank you, darling. Her delightful purr is more an emotion than an actual purr, but it is still a pleasant thing to feel from her.

Though her eyes never leave you, Yashi draws both hands to her chest in the silent, deliberate grace that the ancient possess. Her fingers are all tented at her cleavage, as you deliberately walk towards her, framing your intent to seduce her clearly in your mind. Her cheeks slowly color, and the more graphic you make your intent the more excited her body becomes. Her expression never changes, no, but her eyes widen slightly, and her cheeks darken a bit and her nipples most certainly push against the light material of the gown. You can see the slight shadow of dark hair crowing the gap between her legs.

Expending some of the arcane force at your disposal, you transmute one of your most potent defensive spells into one which requires no gesture nor incantation to cast; her eyes widen ever so slightly, especially since it is one which transmutes your flesh into adamant hardness. Your smile becomes arch, and it takes a bit of effort not to bare your spurs possessively towards the slender mage.

As you approach you slow, standing behind her and to one side, looking at her in the mirror. It apparently does nothing for you; you could, you suppose, use a cantrip and try and determine it's true powers and command phrases, but you have a lovely creature dressed provocatively before you. It is exceedingly rare for your kind to indulge in such appearances; only the makers usually do so with anything approaching regularity. Raising both hands you lay your fingertips lightly along her shoulders and she shivers, her eyes fixed upon the mirror, fixed upon yours in the mirror.

“You....are an extraordinarily dangerous person,” you murmur softly, tilting your head and breaking eye contact, if only so that you can look along her ear. Many tiny piercings and delicate chains, all platinum and opals and moonstones. Down to her throat. More platinum, beads of silver and droplet shaped pendants of milky fire opal and glistening blue water opal. “I am under the impression,” you continue, your breath hot along her ear, then against her throat, “that you were expecting me. That you intended this.”

She looks down, but doesn't speak yet as your hands slide to the back of her neck....then down the soft, supple flesh along her back. Delicate, fragile flesh. So weak, so vulnerable seeming.

Seeming only.

Her eyes come up, pinpoints of blue-white flame growing within them. Arcane sight, without a doubt. Not currently in your repertoire, though you have access to it. You step into her and she takes a sharp breath, stiffening as you slide one hand along her belly, along the silken material that feels almost slick against her skin, while your other hand slips along the delicate cleft at the uppermost part of her derriere, and the lowest point of the dress. “I suspect you are old enough that you no longer have a preferred kind of lover....” There is a hard rap that makes the crystal ring. “....Save that they are strong enough to do as they wish in your favor,” you hiss wickedly finally looking into the mirror, gratified to see that her expression is both fearful and hopeful. You let your fingertips slide lower, under the crystal-encrusted edge of her dress, between the bare crease of her buttocks. Her breaths are faster now....

Another sharp rap, stronger; a gauntlet, of which only the knight had on. It makes the crystal sing in pain.

You loosen your broadcast to include Yashi and the trio of warriors. The illusionist is trembling delicately before you, and even a little against you, her eyes downcast once more. This time, however, she is looking at your hand upon her belly in the mirror rather than the floor. You're not entirely sure why, and her eyes come up to meet yours in the mirror immediately when you slip your gloved hand between her derriere and her dress, cupping her bottom gently but firmly, letting your thumb stroke the soft curve. So soft, so incredibly soft. It is almost strange, feeling flesh not toned by exercise or warfare.

Yashi, you declare, making her flush at the informality of your thoughts, is both spoken for and taken. She is joining my cadre, and I am introducing her to the rewards of having done so. A more private reassurance that you will reward her generously in other manners only makes her eyes lower to the floor. Slowly you work your index and ring finger into the softness of her cleft, parting it gently and carefully from beneath. The dry leather transfers the heat between her legs quite nicely, but will take some work to make wet enough to slip inside her.

Are you willing to speak out against one of Her Majesty's highest servants to stake your claim, Akko? A strong projection, but you suspect that is the limit of his psychic ability. The duties of a knight leave little time for the cultivation of true talent, be it magecraft or psychic power. You also do not recognize the 'voice'. You did recognize that he is not your better from the trophies and honors on his war-sash; but that doesnt mean he has a lower status necessarily. Only Silver Swords between them, and he did feel the need for an escort.

Could go either way at this point.

You work your fingertips up and down her soft cleft, exploring and stroking the delicate petals there. She forces herself to breathe slowly and surely, trying to keep calm in the face of your gentle onslaught. You smile and look at her downcast eyes from the mirror, and press the pad of your thumb against a much tighter, more infrequently used passage; instantly her eyes jerk to meet yours. She stiffens....but she does not try to escape or squirm to avoid the touch. You tighten your embrace, your fingers splayed across her belly, others gently working their way deeper into her moistening sex.

You may have to keep these gloves as a trophy.

[X] Ask her if she wishes you to duel on her behalf.
[x] He didn't lay claim on her for Her Majesty; he's bluffing.

You bare your spurs in a grin that would have made Gero shit his trousers, were such a thing possible in the Astral; the sight only makes the delicate githyanki in your arms flush more proudly, and she finally begins rocking her hips to match your movements against her soft, damn petals. “Is this how you stave off ennui, Yashi? But arranging fights between warlords and knights for your body and power?” You mostly mean it to tease, perhaps only lightly accuse, but she presses down onto the fingers that stroke her sex.

Yesss-AHN!” The tears are immediate, and real, but she doesn't try to escape your grasp as one hand covers yours along her belly and the other clutches at your sash, grabbing at any support you might give after you drive your thumb deep into her derriere's open, without preamble or warning.

The gentle strokes of your fingers in her softer, more open cleft resumes and she whimpers softly as she squirms in your grasp. “Very rude. But I certainly cannot fault you for it.” To be wanted for ones power and one's body, deep into the long ages of an near immortal lifetime? Totally understandable. But that doesn't mean you have to be nice about having been used so!

Have I not already done so, Knight? I saw you approach, I know who gives you your power and what it is meant for. And since you know my name, I do not have to tell you that you are not the first of your ilk to trouble me over a simple matter of cadres. You push your well moistened leather-clad fingers deep inside your illusionist's body, and she cries out softly, her spurs digging into the lip she bites as she struggles between the pain of the unwanted intrusion and the pleasure of the desired one.

Sliding your hand up to one firm, youthful seeming breast, you grasp it tightly and she locks her hands about your bracers, clinging to the glass and silver decoration of them as you lovingly bite her ear, tongue playing with the studs and chains. Yashi makes another lustful, plaintive cry. As you can tell, we are terribly involved at the moment. Arrange a duel or got gone from here, knight, and take your escort with. A slight edge of threat to your broadcast is met with anger, and outrage.

From the noises your victim makes, I contest that you are abusing one of the spellcasters that Her Majesty desires to serve in Lord Knight Dunzamn's raid. Oh, he is trying to pull rank and order on you, how cute. Though he has gotten the attention of all the Silver Swords in the area, including his own; fine, two can play at that game. And you're better at it than he knows.

Yashi turns her head, pulling her ear from your gentle bite and leaning forward, allowing you penetrate her more deeply with your fingers (and, to her pained cries and your amusement, your thumb) as she kisses you fervently, her tongue pierced with sharply cut gem-studs no less than four times if you are licking everything correctly (you are). I avow that if you enter the chamber that my willing lover and I share, that you will be met with spell, power, and sword, and leave less a member of your cadre and bleeding out, though not maimed. you can feel the dismay of his guards, purposefully projected to you by each one to inform you they do not approve of their leader's actions.

Good. That means you can force one or the other to owe you a strong favor for not making good on your claim to kill one of them. Of course that doesn't men they won't fight if he orders them to – he is their leader, after all. Since Silver Swords have been informed, and it may not be a formal duel, the altercation is a matter of record. The winner will be in the right, and the loser....well, you had better not lose.

Her delicate and experienced hand slips between your own legs, rubbing your sex eagerly through your clothing, and making you break the kiss with a surprised gasp of your own. No longer playful, you now fuck the beautiful illusionist, clutching her breast and stroking her deep and hard with two fingers as she squirms and moans before the mirror that you are both totally ignoring. “You....are so....going to be mine....for a good....long....while....Yashi!” You hiss the words into her ear and she shudders against you, nearly on the verge of a powerful climax.

Dead Gods damned drama queen!

You slow your work, deliberately keeping Yashi from tipping over the edge of pleasure into ecstasy; you further push that peak away by firmly pulling at the tormented opening your thumb is pressed deep into. She jerks, only to cry out in real pain, though she doesn't try and pull away again. You begin thrusting with your fingers once more, purring happily in her ear as she squirms helplessly. Despite your momentary cruelty, her fingers work busily, pushing the twist of silk that yo use for a loincloth out of the way and pressing the leather of your trousers firmly against your bare nether lips.

“Degenerate creature,” you whisper with real heat into her ear. “Far, far gone into your desperate....ah....” She licks at your throat and you lose what you were saying in favor of kissing that tender, tiny mouth, playing with that rather exotically decorated tongue.

Siobhan growls a warning in your mind as the trio unsheathe their swords, and as one hammer on the crystalline barrier. It doesn't break, though it won't take long at all for them to burst the created material apart.

Though you want to bring her to climax, you make her work towards yours, denying her release. “Happy now, pretty thing?” you whisper in her ear after breaking the kiss, hinting that her age has made her inhuman. She shudders, terribly, terrifically excited in spite of the insult. “You've officially pitted your new lover against one of the Knights in mortal combat....” She bites her lip, the one of her spurs drawing a tiny bead of liquid sapphire blood to light. You shudder and lick it away, her fingers grinding, pressing, yours slipping easily in and out, her breast bruising, clutched tight....

Another crash and you speed your efforts, and she does so with hers; both panting, your eyes closed, focusing on those clever, greedy fingers, her small frame in your cruel clutches. She starts to convulse in your arms....and then you feel the rush of blood, the quivering pulsations of your womb, your center, as you (FINALLY!!!) reach a climax of your own. Trembling, you feel her body tighten around fingers and thumb alike, her lips parted in tiny, harsh exhalations, as she is allowed to enjoy her release.

A third crash of silver against crystal, and you kiss her once more, softly, much more pleasantly, tasting the sharp tang of the bluish liquid that serves as blood for your kind. “Entirely degenerate,” you accuse softly, and she smiles shyly....and then cries out plaintively as you pull free of her soft body, carefully, so as not to ruin her pretty dress. Yashi goes to her knees on the padding of the floor, and turns so that she looks up at you with eager daffodil colored eyes.

There is a smear of darkness along your glove – her blood, nothing more – from your cruelty, but she takes your hand in hers, and gestures slightly, cleaning it, your body, and your clothing of sweat and other smears of her blood. You draw Siobhan as you turn away from her stepping between her and the trio of warriors. One more strike and they will be in.

Yashi wanted a show and to feel needed...well, now, by the Dead Gods, she will get it all!

I'll give more detail at the end - needless to say, Akko is confident she outranks everyone in her vicinity in terms of combat and in efforts to raid and battle on behalf of the stronghold, and that she should get away scot free if she wins.

>>827543
Akko has spell levels 1st-4th, but only a very few of each level.

Yashi has spells available from 1st to 5th level, but only a few each of the mid level, and only a couple of her highest level ones. She is not part of the battle - unless she suddenly decides she is, which will also make her a target at that point. Attacking Yashi right now is against the rules, she's "the victim" or "the lover" and not part of this 'contest' except as a bystander.

Empowerign Siobhan is automatic. You have to chose not to do so to gain the ability to cast a second spell from any of those listed. Akko will be able to empower her later. You may also chose to empower Siobhan differently (this choice will give Siobhan a bunch of extra damage abilities) but you do not get the second spell.

[X] Write in: Breath of the Solar Dragon + Phantasmal Killer, Empower Siobhan in a moment.
>Note: Spells not used remain in her repertoire, and she has a number of other spells that will be called up as needed during battle, including those for use in Spellstrikes or as part of Spell Combat.

Siobhan is a powerful weapon in her own right, and while you usually intensify her power during a fight, three on one is a bit more chancy than you prefer. Also, you promised a death.

Baring all four spurs in a rictus grin, you invoke the power of Dragon's Breath, one of Yzia's scales dissolving into burning sparks and golden mist and swirling into your mouth. The barrier shatters as the trio hammer the weakened crystal with their Silver Swords, and the Knight and the male on the left charging at you. The one on the right hesitates as he sees your aura explode into bloody light, the arcane force you garner and pool in it erupting as you speak a word and make a viciously abrupt gesture at him. The other two try to halt their movement, but it is too late. You open your mouth impossibly wide, and exhale a shining bolt of raw solar energies, the entire room cast in burning light or utterly black shadows from the white hot line of blazing death you pour upon the fools.

It amuses you even more that the Knight, who had clearly protected himself against fire, finds himself still burned and scorched from the radiance of Yzia's breath. Your companion only has red scales, she is not even remotely related to the chromatic breed of wyrms. The other fellow half collapses, his armor scorched and his flesh seared black and torn away in ragged patches of blue and white muscle.

The warrior who had held back screams, once as the shadowy figure slides over him around him, then settles behind him to loom over his body. The poor fool arches his back, grabbing at his head. His eyes bulge in terror and then he goes slack jawed, falling to his knees, then onto his face, dead. It doesn't take much to guess at what he thought happened, and what may as well have actually happened.

The Knight slashes at you, his blade glancing off of yours then slamming into your side; the enchantment of the bracers and the spells woven into your aura hold off the deadly weapon for the moment; you take a side stance, presenting Siobhan and he recoils, laying both hands on the hilt of his bloodthirsty blade. The other warrior struggles to his feat, but his assault is half hearted and misses you entirely.

Siobhan is no less thrilled, her exultation in the battle resounding in your mind and urging your own to the fore.

[X] Empower Siobhan with Speed and Keenness, then hit the Knight with all your strength and deadly speed; fortify yourself with a Cold-Fire Shield.

You narrow your eyes, and bloody light erupts from your shoulder, crawling up your arm in a rush to surround Siobhan. Her edges take on a ruby sheen, and she feels light and delicate in your hand, despite being a hand-and-a-half blade of silver with a core of heavy quicksilver. The Knight' dark saffron eyes widen and you smile that rictus grin at him. “I can tell you've never fought a gish before....tell me, how does it feel to be blessed of Her Majesty and discover that there are still those who can compare?”

The other warrior takes his blade in both hands as well but you are on him in a flash, your blades slamming together with uncanny speed as he defends himself. The Knight hisses in anger and gapes at you, showing his spurs in anger and shock as you block his blade almost too fast to see despite using your Lady one handed. You make three quick gestures and chant a few sharp words and violet flames erupt around your body, flickering madly and scorching the hand of the warrior when he manages to give you a shallow slice across the arm; he is shocked by how shallow the slice is, for your skin is stronger than mere metal; his burn is cold and white.

Backing further away, the warrior calls out loudly. “Attend! I yield, and claim myself in the wrong!” The Knight hisses angrily, but the thrum of the Silver Swords is enough; he may have to pay you a price for his part in this. If he comes for you again, he will be judged whether he kills you or not.

The Knight lunges and you dance back feeling the sword spill off your spells even as it glances off your arm and bites down as the freezing flames bite deeply into his hands. You dart in and stab him deeply in the shoulder, but he blocks your second strike. “Damn your eyes to any number of forbidden hells,” he growls as he backs away warily. “Attend....I yield, I am in the wrong.”
>>
>>827691
You stand up straight as the Silver Swords take heed of their capitulation. “I claim one weapons-weight in void crystal from each of you, and the death of your companion as only my due.” It's less than you could ask for, but still a painful price. The Knight bites down hard as he bares his spurs at you, and you lick yours, which just makes him hate you all the more. “Now get out, and leave me and my lover in peace, servant of Her Majesty!” He turns, stalking away from you and his defeated cadre, while his escort moves to the dead githyanki, muttering a litany for what must have been a friend.

You will have to be very careful of him; he was not prepared this time, but next time – and there will be a next time – he will be ready. Then again, this is what keeps you from ennui and the slow degradation of your will. You imagine that Yashi will also have to be especially wary.

A delicate hand waves past your shoulder and a thick pane of solid obsidian appears across the doorway of Yashi's cell. You turn to her, and she looks at you with those pale yellow eyes, ancient in a youthful face. Her gown is a bit mussed, and her hair is a bit more mussed from your nuzzling and affectionate licks and nibbles to her ears and neck, but she is still lovely. She offers her hands to you, palms up and eyes glittering with pleasure, cheeks flushed.

Take me,” she says in that rich, lovely voice.

Apparently, you put on a very good show.

I really appreciate the eroticism of this story so far. Most of your smut is a bit out there for me, Ryukusa for all I love it feels more romantic than sensual when it gets to smut (appropriate of course), and Tale of X for example just didn't hit the spot for me. I dunno why, maybe the focus on d/s lifestyle kind of de-glamorized the whole thing by making it feel more rote or something.

Also, adventuring is fun so hopefully we get some of that too.

Actually, XS, I assumed that the MC was male at first. Good job!

So. Notes on biology.

First of all, the blood. Githyanki (and by inference, the githzerai) use hemocyanin for blood. This makes their oxygenated blood bluish and their unoxygenated blood clear. This also means their blood is more like lymph than actual blood, and give them their pale coloration (in this scenario). This allows them to deal with low and high pressure situations with ease, as well as allowing their blood to remain fluid at a wider variety of temperatures. Their musculature is therefor more like that of arthropods and and cartilaginous creatures, with less fatty tissue and a lot denser muscle mass, meaning they are slightly stronger and faster than their lean builds would indicate.

Their eyes are yellow, crimson, and brown in coloration for much the same reason - crimson eyes are actually less blood filled, while brown and yellow have more and more blood flow respectively. Their ears tend to grow throughout their lives (as human ears do) so a good indicator of age is how long and pointed and serrated their ears are. This is not the case for their noses, which leads to the oddity of 'missing' noses.

As a githyanki ages, their skin becomes more and more pale, eventually showing their muscle tone though their skin, leaving them with a parchment yellow coloration. They also become even more lean, but unlike humans their skin does not continue to grow over their body as they do, leading to tightening of the skin along their limbs, faces, and torso. This is what causes the 'noseless' look among truly acient speciments.

Their hair is usually shaded from brown to black to obsidian or silver-grey. It tends to become thinner as they get much older.

These things are important because biological activity is suspended in the astral plane, meaning there is no growth, no breathing, no digestion, no excretion, no procreative ability. This also means poisons are useless until the leave the astral, meaning they're rarely bothered with by githyanki unless they are assassinating someone. Thus, Akko use of the word "breeders" does not indicate heterosexual, but literally a caste of githyanki who take pains to become/cause pregnancy. the effort and toll this takes on a githyanki makes it a lower caste activity, which is where the insult comes in.
>>
>>827900
Huh, that's pretty cool.
>They also become even more lean, but unlike humans their skin does not continue to grow over their body as they do, leading to tightening of the skin along their limbs, faces, and torso. This is what causes the 'noseless' look among truly acient speciments.
So do they have less bone/cartilage in their noses to start with or is it just all smooshed in there painfully after a while?
>>
Love the detail you put into your quests settings XS. Cause I don't remember all of this from the monster manual if I am not mistaken just remember "Enemies of the mindflayer this, hate other race that."

Githyanki "government" is based on two separate systems which rely on yet a third system to function properly. From the Lich Queen, there extends Strongholds, which range in size from the "cadre" (1-4 githyanki), to a "lattice" (5-10 individuals, usually lead by a Leader), to a Lair (21-30 individuals, with a Supreme Leader at the head) to an actual stronghold containing several hundred warriors and supported by a thousand or more lower castes. These massive Stongholds are the Githyanki cities (a large one is depicted here).

The first and most prominently recognized system is the Meritocracy-Achievement system. This system is based on three precepts: survival, obedience to Her Majesty, and achievements for the Stronghold. Since the githyanki are primarily a raiding civilization, survival is the paramount measure of a person's worth. Despite that, unlike gnolls, in whom cowardice is consider a virtue, the githyanki, who have bred themselves into being vicious psychic warriors in order to escape the yoke of their former masters, it is a matter of survival of the fittest and smartest. Knowing when and how to retreat is important, because githyanki tend to be very violent.

The baring of the bone spurs in their mouths, much like the baring of teeth in animals, is a sign of aggressive behaviors, while licking them is a victory sign and framing them with the lips is a sign of fear or shock. Displaying one or two, rather than all four, is a sign of weakness or excitement. Smiling at a githyanki is not an aggressive act, however - it is not the teeth which the githyanki look for, but the spurs of bone, which are darker and less smooth than their actual teeth. Vampires and catfolk, on the other hand, had best be careful.

Obedience to the Lich Queen of the githyanki is required. She has become more powerful, and in doing so allows her people to gain more power than once they had, but she will still consume the souls (and some say the minds) of those who become too close to her power. As a result, obedience is also considered to be important in displaying humility and acceptance of the rule of others over one's fate. This allows githyanki to accept defeat with equanimity - where other githyanki are concerned. That doesn't mean there will not be revenge, plottign, or back stabbing involved. It only means they are capable of accepting and admitting they have failed, and doing something about it later as opposed to immediately, something which confuses the more violent warrior cultures they encounter.

Achievement for the stonghold are measured mostly by successful raids. What is achieved can include a suprrisingly wide variety of thing: Foodstuffs (and food producing seeds and or stock!) can be, on occasion, more valuable than gold and gems. Gold is relatively easily com by for the githyanki and is general considered decoration or artistic value. Weapons and armor can be of varied value.
>>
>>827950
The cartilage tends to wear down, but yes, it can be painful. Many have it - and sometimes their noses - removed. This is a mark of venerability and strength, mind you - such creatures are often many millennia old
>>
>>827980
Ouch.

>>827975
Hmmm, I notice that the negotiations and demands made in the quest so far have all been very material. Since this system seems very materially based on contributions to the stronghold/group as a whole rather than a matter of diplomacy or the like, are immaterial benefits (favors, cronyism/general favoritism, reputation, etc) either valued less or simply not really attainable in this kind of way? E.g. there doesn't seem to be any way to trade your way into good standing or the like, is that right?
>>
>>827975
Actual wealth is measured in weights of valuable weapon and armor building materials, or large and hard to replace gemstones (The varieties of corundum and emeralds are the most prevalent of these. Diamonds, oddly, are not.). Void crystal or voidglass is an easily enchanted glassy metal that has a shine similar to that of moonstone. It is useful for weapons, armor, and constructs. Deep crystal is a far more valuable mineral that can also be forged into weapons, but is much more difficult to make into armor as multiple pieces tend to resonate unpleasantly with each other (and if not properly treated by an expert, dangerously for the wearer). It is psychically resonant and accepts psychic enhancement and power easily. Adamatine is rarely used for armor and weapons - it has much greater value as building material and defensive installations.

This brings us back to achievements. It is worth something to be given body-weights and weapon-weights of material, as reward or as bounty from a raid, as customization of weapons and armor is paramount to githyanki health. More on this later. Resources secured, battles won, and other awards are added to bandiolier-like sashes of woven metal or incredibly tough hide or cloths, and displayed prominently. War-sashes are an easy way to declare alliances, victories, gifts given, and recognition by superiors. Armor, Weapons, and Sashes are "Sword Regalia". The casual sash, or duty-sash consists of allegiances, achievements for the stronghold, and personal successes and gifts, and serve as a status symbol and declaration. Both sashes indicate a githyanki's place in the Chains of Command.

The Chains of Command are as follows: Her Majesty -> The Supreme Leaders -> Lord Knights -> Knights, Gish (including Eldritch Knights, Magus, Psychic Warriors, and Unchained Monks), and highly recognized Spellcasters/Psychics ->Warriors and Spellcasters (including psychics such as Psions and Psychics) ->Murderers and Skulkers (Unchained Rogues, Bards, and Slayers). This is enforced both by personal power and the potent tool by which the Lich Queen enforces order: The Silver Swords.
>>
>>828017
Getting to that now.
>>
>>828027
The Silver Swords of the githyanki (and the githzerai, for that matter) are a work of art and a subtle, pervasive means of enforcing order.

A knight receives his Silver Sword at 6-8th level. A gish receives theirs at 7th level without fail (this discourages the Esoteric and Black Blade disciplines of the Magus). Upon receiving the title of Lord Knight (15th level Antipaladin), Lord Gish (19th level) or Supreme Leader (any level) a githyanki receives a True Silver Sword (by which it is meant the sword is true, not the silver in it). A True Silver Sword may be bestowed by Her Majesty at any level as well. Loss of one results in fates worse than death and immediate mobilization of an entire stronghold to retrieve it (200-800 githyanki descending upon a place is a BAD THING).

Silver Swords are all intelligent, all empathic, and have at least two powers. True Silver Swords are awesome artifact level weapons to be feared. But more importantly, all Silver Swords are telepathic at planar range - with each other and the Lich Queen only. This may not be the case with the Silver Swords of the githzerai, who do not make True Silver Swords.

This means that favors, bargains, deals, duels, declarations of emnity, and other intense and non-material 'goods' can be traded and relied upon to be assured in a complex network of favors and granted boons that is watched over and adjudicated by the Silver Sword wielders - and the Silver Swords themselves. Calling attention to oneself via telepathically (usually with associated speech, but not always) askign for a Silve Sword to attend - whether or not a githyanki personally owns one - automatically alerts any Silver Swords nearby to the intents and oaths and desires of those who do so. As a result, non-saction duels, assassinations, and other non-material means of advancing ones station are catalogued and verified by the network of Silver Swords, allowing a large amount of personal freedom to be maintained in a heavily regimented society.

This has the largely unknown drawback of allowing the Lich Queen to keep a scorecard of such matters, leading to being devoured if one develops too much strength.

This is the first system of meritocracy and advancement.

The second is a caste based system that supports the military system. It consists fo all the civilians who perform support for the stronghold: breeding more githyanki, farming, stock raising (not easy in the Astral plane), construction (usually through magic or psychic power), and other menial tasks. Despite the existence of a caste system, one can chose to leave it and become a member of the warriors, but this is rare for reasons that will be explained. The castes are interconnected and subservient to all warriors. Slaves can be caste members, but are not githyanki, and therefore of lesser value than even the lowest of breeders and stock raisers. this does intimate that slaves can become warriors, but this is difficult and rare.
>>
>>828091
The only way an Ex-Slave is allowed to wield a Silver Sword is if he is a Lord Knight. This puts said ex-slave directly under the auspices - and control - of Her Majesty.

Life as a caste member is hard work, long toil, and relative safety and comfort. Githanki warriors leave the caste members alone for the most part - they are expected to do their duty, and as long as that duty is done and done well, they are left to their own devices. Slaves, on the other hand, are not so kindly regarded (i.e. ignored). They are property and tools, and playthings. Caste member githyanki have a realtively easy life maintainign strongholds, fortifying defenses, creating art, nurturing plants and animals, and generally just making sure the strongholds are maintained, cared for, and protected from general decay and random acts of destruction or infestations astral vermin (low powered demons and devils and angels, annoying bits of strange life, or the occasional psychic phenomenon). Serious problems are dealt with by warriors and skulkers.

Castes are controlled by Caste Leaders, who often have tools respective of their trade that have ties to the Silver Swords - often rods, wands, daggers, brooches, bracelets, or other tools and innocuous objects. This allows the favors and duties and needs of the caste members to be seen to (and lets the Lich Queen keep an eye on them) as well as providing a mean to deal with unruly slaves overlooked by warriors.

With the power, prestige, and wealth of the githyanki warriors being what it is, there is a reason so few githyanki caste members seek advancement into the warrior system. The reason is surprising imply, yet horrifically complex and pervasive: Ennui.

>>828091
Sounds like the Lich Queen has got a good thing going with this Silver Sword system. Well, I guess their recipients aren't complaining either. Most anyway.

The construction of a Githyank Stronghold is basically a sphere of metal or stone (The Center), or more rarely psychically/magically created materials, with anywhere from three to dozens of columns (The Colums or Stems)of stone, each topped by a large platform (Blooms) which may or may not be domed by crystal or metal or other, stranger materials There are well guarded gateways in the Columns and Blooms; there are large open portals in the Center, which is where the dragons associated with the githyanki make their homes.

These are usually from the same family of Solar Dragons that have had ties to the githyanki since their escape from the masters. Occasionally other kinds of dragons will make similar pacts of assistance and mutual aide (always lawful, usually neutral, sometimes evil, never good), these being typically Outer or Imperial breeds, and rarely, very rarely, the Astral dragons of the Esoteric types. The red and gold coloration of the Solar dragons is what leads people to erroneously believe that red dragons have ties tot he Githyanki, but red dragons are actually too unpredictable, greedy, and malicious. Underworld, and Vortex dragons are those most likely to forge close ties to the githyanki warriors. While it is seen as a pact between equals, no githyanki presumes that they are an individual match for a dragon. The dragons often chose specific githyanki to be their liaisons (much as Yzia has Akko) and will worth most closely with and cooperate most easily with these Companions.

The wealth is actually secondary to what the dragons gain from the association. What they truly gain is a gigantic Habitrail filled with fun creatures to watch and play with. Dragons do not carry anything like the Silver Swords or True Silver Swords; her Majesty gives them other kinds of treasures to full that role, and usually without informing them of this. The precious few ancient wyrms among them find it cute.

The greatest threat to the githyanki is not Astral Storms, githzerai raiders, mind flayer hatred, or heroic adventurers. what truly threatens the githyanki as a people is ennui.

Whats Ennui!?
>>
Withing the Stronghold are large spheres in various easily accessed locations that change colors very slowly (small ones are available - they cost 200 GP, are fist sized and shed illumination as a moonrod, and weigh one pound [100 go to create, needing a 50 gp moonstone, the dancing light and prestidigitation cantrips]). A complete cycle from one color through the 10 primary colors (white, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, ultraviolet, black) is a Turning. A tenth of a turning is approximately ten minutes in a prime material plane's existence, so a single full turning is 100 minutes. Four and eight tenths Turning is an 8 hour space of time, enough time to recover spells and begin healing deep (statistic) injuries.

Healing and Resting are disciplines that the githyanki have developed to prepare for spells/psychic power/arcane power to be recovered without actually sleeping, while healing must be forced in the Astral plane, where it (like sleep) does not occur naturally. Since eating, drinkign, and breathign do not occur either, it take effort and discipline to manage any of these things (and eating and drinking must be managed carefully, since excretion does not happen naturally - it must be forced as well). Naturally, most Githyanki only bother with the resting and healing aspects of these issue. It does make anal sex of all sorts quite safe....and makes scat play all but impossible. Vore is also relatively safe - aside from the only creatures large enough locally to indulge in it eat gold and flawed gemstones as snacks, both of which liquefy in their mouths, which says something about their digestive systems. Since sleep is unneed, eatign is unneeded, healign takes effort, and the vast expanse of the astral plane is largely empty and without thread, the githyanki have a serious issue: not much to do aside from raids. As a result, distracting oneself in a timeless infinity where you are functionally immortal and trapped with hundreds or thousands of volatile warriors becomes a full time effort.

The creation or weapons and armor and tools of magical and psychic warfare can take up much of a warriors time. Many of them study diligently enough to become crafters of magical items and tools (Master Craftsman Feat). Carign for weapons and the study of tactics and strategy are paramount as well. But with eternity ahead, social interaction becomes the most distracting and fun thing to do.

Githaynki are all drama queens.

Slaves, valuable building materials, and status games are paramount for the mental health of a githyanki warrior. Caste members work constantly, meditate, and maintain their duties, or practice their defenses against intruders. But the militant arm of the githyanki (most anyone not a caste member, in other words) must keep their minds occupied in other ways. Staving off ennui is necessary for the survival of the species, for it leads to despai, suicide, or rash and foolhardy actions.

Akko's adventure is essentially the players following one moderately powerful githyanki magus' attempts to keep herself occupied forever

Ennui is the doldrums, the boredom, the nothing to do woe is me eventually facing an effectively immortal being who literally has no need to eat, sleep, dream, drink, or breathe and is still truly mortal and ages like a mortal (albeit a long lived one).

The elan, a race of beings that were mortal and were transformed into unaging humanoids by psychic rituals, are very careful to select only particularly mentally resilient and imaginative adventurous types for precisely this reason. And the githyanki have chosen this militaristic life of effective immortality for one specific reason: so they can eventually wipe out the entire illithid race.

That is all for today. I hope you've enjoyed this completely made up and 93% whole cloth reimagining of the Githyanki.

Feel free to steal what you like.

Here's a question, XS? Can we select specific parts of the nobility to avoid and specific parts to target to make things a bit more interesting on particular shard of the material that we'll be invading? Maybe make life a bit more interesting, trim the rotten bits, take a few that would be wasted otherwise, and leave things a bit more dynamic and interesting?

Nothing like invasion and war as a form of art. Said piece should stave off ennui for quite a while.

You may indeed, though you will have to follow the Supeme Leader's (in this case Dunzamn's) orders in general (i.e. if he tells you to target a specific area, family, or person, you'd better do it or have a VERY good excuse for not doing it).

The attack will be carried out by a Lair's worth of Githyanki including four dragons (two of whom will be a fair bit older than your Yzia) and the campaign could take several months.

The members of Akko's ciurrent cadre are Gero, Falna, and Yashi, who will ride Yzia. You might be able to add one more, but probably not anyone who wears heavy armor (which, by the way, Akko can wear without issue other than a loss of speed and slight mobility which she usually mitigates with magic).

That wasn't the ending - that was the begining of the final battles.

the ending was when they locked the gods and outsiders out of the prime material plane so that they would leave the soul-bearing races such as humans, gith-whatever, orcs, and halflings alone allow the non-soul bearing races (elves, dwarves, etc) to grow beyond their influence and eventually gain souls.

Humans were spawned from the far realm. Dragons were created by gods and outsiders to wipe them out. Dragons said, "they've wiped out everything thrown agaisnt hem so far, fuck that; we're working with the humans now."

I wonder how the breeding works. I mean, pregnancy and child rearing clearly doesn't jive with astral immortality. Do they hang out on a mortal plane or are there magical work arounds? What does "Unchained" mean with Monks and Rogues? And is there a stigma against Githyanki monks due to that being the favored class of Githzerai?

Also, when a Githyanki gets a True Silver Sword, what happens to the Silver Sword they had beforehand?
>>
>>830957
>It would be more complex due to them having more free will and weider variety. Was there a specific kind of giant, or generalized giants you were interested in?

Well mostly it was just there Mythos in general, my buddy explained it pretty succinctly to me "Every Giant born, is born with the knowledge that their gods are dead."

Could you imagine being the inheritors of such a mighty legacy? A legacy reduced to ruin and ash, as the little folk scramble over the ruins. Could you imagine seeing your fearless and wise leaders the Storm Giants lose their purpose as they retreat under the seas? Or maybe watching as some of your kin twisted over the millennia into misshapen and monstrous caricatures of what a Giant IS?

I dunno XS, they've held my fascination for a while
>>
>>830966
The PF versions of Rogues and Monks are as bad as the originals, but the PF Unchained versions are a great deal more effective than their core counterparts. UC Monks have automatic access to the Ki Powers of the Qigong monks (hence their classification as gish), and a number of additional powers and abilities as well (they also use the fighter BAB, and are quite fearsome ompared to most other versions). There is no specific stigma in being a monk per se; most githyanki monks are external martial artists and warriors, as opposed to the ascetic and inner strength practices of the githzerai.

Each Silver Sword is usually forged and crafted individually, though there are inevitably some spare swords due to attrition. Those Silver Swords that desire a new wielder are often 'informed' by other Silver Swords of worthy people and their status, nature, and foibles. It is considered an honor to be chosen by such a weapon. Otherwise, the forging and creation of the weapon is done by the Master Smiths, Leaders f the weapon maker's castes; even if the would-be wielder can craft the sword on his own, the Master Smiths must attend to give the weapons it's power and intelligence, and the secret of the destroying power that they have against silver cords is never shared under pain of being devoured by the Lich Queen.

A True Silver Sword MUST be forged individually for the wielder, and those few that have lost wielders are dismantled and the raw materials purified and prepared for a new forging process.

Given their biology, it should come as no surprise that githyanki and githzerai are oviparous.

They lay eggs.

While this would seem like a step backwards on the evolutionary chart to most any biology student, there are a few things that make this a survival trait for the species. First, this reduces the gestation strain on the githyanki; it is quite difficult to tell when a githyanki is pregnant aside from the fact that she eats more, and increases the protein in her diet (this is also the only time they will crave milk and yogurt - githyank bones tend to be dense). The mother carries the egg for five months, only the last of which tend to have any difficulties or be obvious. During the latter two months, however, the mother's ability to use their innate psychic abilities become minimal, much of the effort going to towards protecting and strengthening the embryo, instilling a form of education upon the embryo, and instilling protections in the egg shell itself.

At the time of laying, the egg is an oblong, leathery-seeming capsule about three to five inches in diameter and seven to nine inches in length. The process takes about an hour, during which the mother must remain still (note that this does not mean helpless). If she she moves during this time the chances of it killing the egg are near to absolute, save at the end, where permanent injury to the embryo is more likely. Once laid, the mother tends to be tired, but not exhausted; the egg slowly hardens over the course of the next few hours, so the mother usually remains to guard the egg and the child within. At this time her power return, slowly restoring as the last few protections and instructions are given to the embryo.

One hardened, the now milky colored crystalline egg is incredibly durable, resistant to temperature changes and physical damage. It is also resistant to psychic and magical assault. The embryo gestates for another five months and the egg increases both in size and in clarity, until it is an oval about fifteen to eighteen inches long and eleven to fourteen inches across. This growth is due to the embryo drawing psychic power to itself and literally forcing the egg to grow as it develops. During this time, the eggs are potentsources of psychic energy, and must be protected lest brain moles, cerebral parasites, intelligent grey oozes, cerebral slimes, emotion oozes, intellect devourers, and other psychically active threats devour them. When the embryo is ready to be born, it dissolves the egg in a final burst of psychic energy, and is a spindly, mobile, and rather feral looking githyanki, fully capable of sustaining itself and instinctively protecting itself with the wicked bone spurs and tiny, sharp teeth....and instinctive psychic abilities instilled by the mother.

During the next 5-8 years, they must be trained: housebroken, kept from assaulting perceived threats, and otherwise brought from a feral state into a more reasoning state.
>>
>>831085
The Silver Sword they have is either given to someone worthy, or broken down to be reforged, or used as the basis of the new True Silver Sword. This depends largely on the desires of both Sword and wielder. The githyanki do not like leaving such weapons lying idle, as people (adventurers) have this very bad habit of wanting them for their very own for some reason.
>>
>>831100
So since the hatching process is based on the will of the embryo, it's not possible to "stockpile" eggs in the otherwise kind of static Astral Realm?
>>
>>831100
Once they are trained to a reasoning state of mind they have usually grown to the size of human preteens; their diet is largely carnivorous with small amounts of fruits and vegetables as supplements until they reach their early 40's and have achieved near-to-full growth. From the age of 8 to 40, they are trained, drilled, taught, and mercilessly instructed in the life they will lead forever more. Aptitudes are assessed, refined, and their skills are honed and they are prepared for the long war. Only then are they brought into the Strognhold proper.

As to where tis takes place, deep within the Strongholds, there are astral curtains that lead to the demiplanes where the breeders do their work to support the githyanki race. Here they breed, lay eggs, and train the young. Time passes normally in this place, meaning a father can breed, return to the strong hold, and a tenth-turning later meet his full grown son or daughter as a warrior or caste member. This has the potential to be somewhat disconcerting.

Stock breeding and gardening are slightly less troublesome; certain Blooms are designed with enchantments and psychic infusions that allow biological processes to proceed normally for creatures and plant with no intellect to defend themselves from the pervasive auras that allow lfe processes to progress normally. Naturally, this precluds githyanki eggs, as they are very well defended against such influence. This also means that poisons still fail to work against people in these areas (it works fine on the plants and animals). Large crystal 'suns' are provided to prmote health for the stock animals and plants that require it, though there are some that do noth (the underground dwelling rothe, the rapidly growing infinity vine, and fungal foodstuffs for example). Water must be made or imported from elsewhere, as must all other sources of nutrition, along with the earth and loam to grow things in. There are castes whose entire function is specifically to gather water and rich soil fro elemental planes or uninhabited worlds of the material planes; these are often supported by the influx of raider provided raw materials and goods.

No, as that will cause the biological functions to cease, but not the mental functions - you would end up with a mindless or insane husk of a monstrosity, since the biological growth of the brain would cease while the mental health would continue.

This is how intellect devourers where born: githyanki embryos caught in eternal entrapment, their psychic powers consuming their flesh, leaving them as little more than a brain and four limbs, hungering for existence in physical bodies as they were meant to have.
>>
>>831005
I'll consider it. There are almost as many kinds of giants as there are kinds of dragons now.
>>
>>831118
This is really neat. I really like how you figured out how a race could live in a timeless expanse and still maintain structure.

Did the Githyanki feature in the epic-length campaign you mentioned earlier?

>>831123
Horrifying but also cool. So do the Githyanki seek out and destroy Intellect Devourers with with the almost the same zeal as they do their other enemies, or do they do their best to pretend like Intellect Devourers don't exist unless the creatures actually get in their way?
>>
>>831125
The original intellect devourers were created when a smaller Stronghold fell; the resulting abominations of the neglected eggs were mad, insane things, lusting for sensation and experience, and fled the astral as a small swarm, splitting off to varied material planes, and losing their connection tot he astral and to their progenitors. The githyanki who were sent to recover what they could from the broken tonghold simply assumed the eggs had been destroyed, taken, or otherwise removed.

They have no idea what truly happened.
>>
>>831125
Yes they were one of the four races that possessed souls and had no ties or creation myths to the gods that resided in the outer planes (their one goddess was self created, and not truly a divine being on the scale of the gods).
>>
>>831137
In the campaign, what were souls good for? It seems like the default setting has them ultimately amount to little more than raw material for mass-produced Outer Planar Outsiders, which is kind of existentially terrifying regardless of alignment, but seeing how your campaign went, I'm guessing that's not how they're "meant" to be used?
>>
>>831141
Complicated question. Also, backwards.

First there were the outsiders, natives of the outer planes. Then the gods descended and took over control of much of those planes. The outsiders warred against the gods. The gods created the races - dwarf, elf, gnoll, orc, gnome, etc. The gods gained power from worship. By corrupting the races into acts aligned with the planes the outsiders hailed from, the outsiders gained potential new outsiders. This escalated rapidly.

No one knew who conjured, summoned, or released humans. But they were a goldmine. Their worship was worth much more to the gods, their deaths worth much more to the outsiders. The war continued. Until some enterprising outsider or diety did the math. The number os human/halfling/half-elven/half-orc/githyanki/githzerai souls kept coming up short when calculated against the numbers of their deaths. Very short. And each time a generation passed, the humans grew more clever, more powerful, more dangerous to their neighbors, more involved in other races , corrupting them and making them pay attention more to the material world than their gods and the outsiders. They were quickly becoming a plague upon the worlds.

It was discovered that a human soul reincarnates if it is not sufficiently corrupted and not sufficiently invested in the deities. And it takes potency from each previous life (this is why humans had no level limitations in AD&D; no god to restrict them, and more spiritual growth with each previous life lead). So the humans were literally nascent being of power, things that could outstrip outsiders, perhaps even gods in their strength with time.

Ever wonder why there were so many damned horrible monsters in D&D? Weeeeelllllll......

The gods and outsiders colluded. They made monsters, made monsters to make monsters, and offered incredible boons to worshipers (clerics and oracles and priests and such) and offered immense power to those they corrupted (summoners, sorcerers, witches, paladins, antipaladins, etc). It wasn't working. Finally they came up wit things that could think and were nigh unto gods in power and told them to wipe out the soul-bearign creatures.

The dragons took one look at how things were going and said "Nope!" and immediately took to helping/guiding/nurturing/challenging/allying with humanity. They saw the situation for what it was - human were a cancer but they could be lived with. Gods and outsiders were a threat to everything, because once the souls were gone, there would be no need for monsters at all.

A human soul isn't something the humans posses. A soul is something human bodies are possessed by. And it grows and learns from each successive existence. Until....well. Let's say the gods were doomed.

That is really neat and I would buy that book series. Is this quest set in the same general cosmology (though presumably pretty far before the conclusion)? Because if so, (either way, really) thank you so much for sharing it with us.
>>
>>831150
Same general cosmology, yes. Because why not.

And you're all welcome. If it inspires and gets you to think and interested in GMing and playing, then my job is done.

I have an ecology for Dark Folk as well.
>>
>>831154
How do you keep getting to be more and more cool? Your mention of Solar Dragons spurred me into looking into Pathfinder's Bestiaries and those guys caught my eye because they're so intriguingly WEIRD. They seem to be (at my count) three different races that exist more or less in symbiosis, that cover themselves completely (though each race has their own style) seem to seek little more than spreading discord, goddamn explode into light when they die (despite at least the lesser ones being easily blinded) and yet they're not undead, fey, or outsiders, but instead seem to be just really strange humanoids no one seems to understand.

Would you mind explaining, or are you saving that for a one-shot on a rainy day/really slow night at work?
>>
>>831157
Huh, and now that I bothered googling them, it looks like they actually had a couple books which at least featured them beyond the bestiaries.
>>
>>831159
So they do have an established backstory instead of just being a prompt for GMs, bit I'm still interested in what you write for them

Dark Folk are to humans what drow are to elves - a corruption of the natural order that exemplifies everything wrong with humanity. Though they seem to be native to the plane of shadow they are not. They have acclimated to it (as humans tend to do) but the substance of the plane of shadow is not merely inimical, it is willfully malicious.

The Owb do not play a role in this ecology except as hangers on - they are an alien race (perhaps even the literal will of the plane of shadow itself).

When humans began to inhabit the Shadow that Abides, their children were poisoned by it. The signs were obvious, but not nearly enough to cause them to flee to the light or destroy the unhappy births. Smaller, stunted, pale things with a malicious, cunning nature. All the better to survive in the darkness. The next generation was worse, more stunted, more quiet, lighter of flesh and bone, yet no less strong. Much much more malicious and cunning; but there was a slight difference between the males and the females a well. The males were stockier, tougher, meaner; the females were more slender, delicate, graceful, and silent. The males were alo far more protective of the females and the females far more capable of manipulating and coercing the males. By the time the previous three generations had passed, all that remained were the two kinds of Dark Folk - Dark Creepers, and Dark Dancers.

The degenerate race no longer spoke, save in soft growls, high pitched titters, hateful grunts, and appreciate cooing. They were thieves and murderers, sneaking, skulking, and living in the strange ruined reflections of the real world. they shared thoughts, were of the same mindset, and spoke no words, only knowing what was needed and wanted and desires, and living to fulfill those desires and needs as best they could.

Then a new birth; a stronger, hot fleshed babe, stronger of limb and with eyes that burned like blue coals. This babe grew up stronger, less silent, but fare more deadly; the hot fire of his flesh channeled magic. He could speak, haltingly, strangely, and did so - words from a different age. His will was stronger, he could impose it upon the dancers and the creepers; they would obey him. He was likened unto a god. Some of his children were dark creepers, other dark dancers. Few were like him. But others f his ilk were born to other creepers and dancers. So rose the Dark Slayers to power.

The organization of the dark folk to the will of this new breed made them more dangerous, more wicked, more hated. And in time, one of the dark slayers begat a new kind of child upon a dark dancer, and it was a beautiful baby boy. Beautiful, as no other child of their kind had been ever. His eyes were obsidian tinged with color, a barest green tinge to the blackness. And he was strong, much stronger than the slayers were upon birth. Not merely of body....
>>
>>831162
She could refuse him nothing; the dark creepers worshiped him as well, as did the other dancers He was beautful, his will a shining beacon for their kind. His will benth theirs to his desire, and he desired little as a babe, as all babes do. They cared for him, brought him gifts. When he was half grown, it was clear he was a throw back to the height and strength of humanity, despite his shadow-poisoned flesh. The dark slayers discovered him, nd came for him....only to discover his will surpassed theirs. while the dark creepers and the dark dancers served and obeyed the slayers, they worshiped this new creature; they would kill and die for him. And his will overwhelmed the dark slayers; he could command them and they would obey, reluctantly, hateful but they could not disobey.

The first Dark Stalker came of age. Unlike the slayers, the creepers, and the dancers, dark stalkers were born both male and female, and their wills overwhelmed all beneath them. To each other they were bother and sister, sibling and rival. Their emotions were human emotions, but tainted by the poison of shadow within their bodies - they lusted, they desires, they needed, they wanted, and coveted. They commanded the creepers, slayers and dancers to fetch and kill and steal and serve, a nebulous hive kind focused on the sole purpose of exalting the slayers and servng their needs. The dark stalkers would fight and hunt and murder and kill. When they mated dark creepers and dancers were born of the union, and sometimes dark slayers.

And then the abomination was born.

It was strong, and obedient to the will of the stalkers, but it was strange, as the others had been. It's flesh more deeply tainted, it's life more closely tied to the Shadow which Aides, the plane of shadow itself. And these creatures had power as well - not over the dark stalker, but over shadow. they could call upon it, and it would answer sending denizens and being to their will. They were the ulitmate result of the shadowy poisons of the place the dark stalkers ruled: the dark callers. They could summon representatives of the plan of shadow to consult with the dark stalkers, whose pride remains resolute, but whose twisted desires and sinister pleasures are often in concordance with the desires of the plane of shadow itself.

The population of the Drk Folk has stabilized; the dark stalkers mate mostly mong their own kind, producing only the rare dark stalker or dark caller child to replenish their numbers; the dark creepers and slayers mate with the dark dancers, producing their own kinds, or the occasional dark stalker (and sometimes the dra stalkers will mate with the lesser for the sheer perversity of it, and the results of such union are unpredictable). The will of the dark stalkers is absolute, their desires inciting action from their lessers, conscious or not; though it is nothing so simple as telepathy, it seems that way, to outsiders....
>>
>>831168
It could be said that since I live on the East Coast and do not have. a night shift job, this wasn't exactly the most prudent choice, but I don't have any regrets. Thank you for writing and reminding me just how much fun tabletop games can be.

I hope the rest of your shift is uneventful if you're working, and if you're not I hope you're making the nocturnal lifestyle work for you.
>>
>>831168
The advent of the Dark Callers catapulted the rise of the Dark stalkers to full power. They rule through desire alone, the all male creepers and all female dancers obedient in every way. The all male slayers are reluctant but obedient; service to their strange masters is rewarding, as much as they hate it, for a stalker's pleasure is pleasure to all who serve him or her.

A single stalker is attended by numerous others; a few callers, always, a number of slayers, and dozens, sometimes hundreds of creepers and dancers. It would seem that the stalkers varied desires would create conflict, the strange hive-mind of the lessers in their obedience enforces cooperation among them, though the slayers oft rebel, seeking to serve in their own way unless directly commanded. Living gods among their diminutive, twisted forebears, the stalkers rule with the power f life and death, pleasure and pain, and are self serving egomaniacs seeking only to please themselves in sybaritic lifetimes hidden away in decaying ruins of shadow. But when their desires become more wild, more intense, the world of light and warmth quickly becomes a battleground. For the stalkers are not weak, slothful masters but brilliant, demanding, deadly masters, who lead from the front when they deign to make their will known.

The dark folk have no names. They do not need them amongst own kind - will is enough to inform them of whom is wanted for what purpose and how. Even the dark stalkers merely take titles. The Dancer, the Empress, the Yeoman, the Boor, the Bastard, the Wench, the Slattern, the Darling, the Provider, the Thief, the Master....they take their tile by their nature and their mindset. When you merely need look or glance at another to inform them of your needs and wants and wishes, why worry over the naming?

Things which are precious to the dark folk are somewhat less so to the dwellers under the sun; pale metals, such as platinum and mithril, yet white gold and silver moreso. Dark emerald, deep red rubies, rich garnets, sapphires of the deepest blue, yet flawed, racked, occluded, are prised even more, and a milky occluded quartz recieves more attention than a flawless diamond might. But their clothing: the layers upon layers of dank molding rags of the creeper and their precious paired daggers. This gives way to body baring ribbons and bells and jewels for the dancers and wicked wands and rods that serve as weapon and badge of office. The robes and scarves and tattered dresses of the creeper gives way to old cassocks and heavy stoles and darkened hoods and gilt chased miters of the callers. But the stalkers....brocaded silks, tight body clinging leather, weapons of sleek, deadly design, poets shirts and sequined vests and glitter-lined cloaks; their masks of cloisonne-chased porcelain, painted silver, and enameled and burnished steel. Every day is masquerade, and why not? They have nothing more than their twisted, petty, cruel desires to fulfill.

I'd say sorry for keeping you up, but I'm not.

Well in the traditional lore they're all born with a sort of genetic level understanding of their place in greater Giant society. The "Real" Giants are Hill (which are dregs), Stone (artisans typically), Frost (warriors and sailors), Flame (warriors and smiths), Cloud (pseudo-nobility/wizards) and finally Storm who are the largest and were their wise leaders.

In the ages before recorded time the Giants and their gods made a civilization that was the most magnificent that there ever could be, then the Giant gods quarreled with the Dragon gods and well.... The two races warred upon eachother, basically destroying the Giant civilization and killing all the gods in the conflict bar Tiamat and Bahamut.

The lesser giants Ogres, Trolls, Ettin etc, are all freaks of nature and spawn of degeneracy that arose from millennia of existence without their gods.
>>
>>831265
I can work with that. Or something similar to it.

Really, the line does say it all, and everything stems from that fact. My first thought on considerign, "Every giant is born knowing their Gods are dead," was "why would you feel your gods death even from the moment of birth?" The answer being, "because a god is your caretaker, even before your mother is." And if a race of beings who are taken care of by their gods has suuffered the death of their gods, what were they before? Caretakers themselves, of course. But what happens when those who take car eof you have died and can no longer serve you?

You suffer for their loss, and rage against it by turns....
>>
>>831171
Wait, how do the Dark Folk sustain themselves in large numbers without raiding the human world? It seems like most creatures that live in the plane of shadows are pretty strong and very malevolent, and yet it doesn't seem like the Dark Folk serve anything but the whims of the Dark Stalkers (who themselves kind of unconsciouly carry the covetous and corrosive will of the plane itself)?

I know that that is in no way the takeaway you were going for, but after careful consideration, in the extremely unlikely event that the opportunity arises, capturing a Dark Stalker and breaking her spirit could be good fun.
>>

Forced role reversal is always fun for you.

Dark folk are an underappreciated low level threat, and something like a githyanki raid across the underdark or through the darklands of shadow could very well cause something like that to happen....

My opinion, though.
>>

It's also a long term project when it involves something with an ego so massive it literally can command life and death from those whom follow it - you know, like a Supreme Leader has over all the githyanki in their stronghold.

Breakign that kind of spirit is an exercise in patience, self control, and inviolable self restraint.

Akko may not be capable of the self restraint required.
