A full moon. A starless sky.

It is so...calm. You ached for a good sleep.

Just close those eyes....

Let them rest....

Give them to me, young master....

.

Pain trickled from your eyes, A....a needle was sewing them shut with a thread. Your body, it hurts. Why is this dream so...real?
You can feel the pain, the blood pouring from your eyes. You can hear them too, four maybe five suffering with you but they screamed, withered.
You didn't

Your mind was slipping, almost disintegrating to naught. Self , you must recall Self....

You are a

Yes it is you...you who are you? A single name? any boon to your sanity? Where is the rest? . You were plummeting to an endless abyss above or below, you couldn't tell. Soon the screams around faded into nothingness . This nightmare....when will it end?

Open your eyes, young master, you are here....

.

This...this...something is wrong, why aren't you in your bed? why the grass below your feet feels so soft and real ? Why is this decrepit old man staring at you?

"At ease, young master, this...journey has taken atoll on your mind and body. Please drink this vial, it ought to smooth your nerves." the old man offered a small vial which had a stagnant, sluggish milky liquid.

"Drink it slowly, young master..." your mind was starting to clear up. the world around you became less blurry.

He helped you to stand up, you felt ....peace around you; clear skies, lush of green, the warmth of the sun caressing your pale skin. A manor awaited you to the east. You are beginning to accept it... This place is not a dream. Not your dream.

"Apologies for the rude awakening, young master, I am...the caretaker" he, despite his frail back, bowed to you.

"There is so many question to ask. I am aware of that There is no need to evade them, you are an Emissary the blood of Master Livendagen runs through your veins even. how is...the waking world these days, young master?"

They must be driven back to their duty in the waking world. they have no place here....This is your home now young master, would you like me to show the way around? "Follow me , young master."

The Caretaker showed you the exterior of this manor, everything was peaceful around you. That old statue was supposed to be this Livendagen fellow, he looked like a capable man. One that has seen so many hardships.

"Those are the graves of...unfortunate emissaries. Your name lies in one of these tombstones as well as your weapon."

All these names sounded foreign to you.

"Very well, please stand back, young master; allow me to retrieve your weapon."

The caretaker brought a shovel and started to dig. There was no corpse there; only a weapon covered in black blood.

It was a :

>Nailfinger: A short blade favored by cutthroat in the dreamless realms, incredibly fast and can cut bare flesh with ease. Trick: Serrate the blade for more bleeding damage.

>Grand Mildrah : A hefty mace with etchings of an unknown woman called Mildrah. Trick: the head of the mace can to released via a chain to resemble a powerful flail.

>Ivory Catchpole: A rather exotic weapon from a forgotten land. Perfect for subduing foes. It has no trick art and it is very fragile.

The manor was spacious and welcoming from inside. You don't recall seeing something that luxurious. The caretaker guided you through a maze of hallways to a small dining room. It had a table brimmed with delicious food just for you.

"Please, young master, do enjoy yourself." said the caretaker.

The old man stood idly as you wolfed down the food in an impolite manner, you couldn't help to notice a lingering stench from somewhere in the manor. you kept said thought to yourself for the moment.

After finishing the meal, you demanded answers. How and what/who brought you here, who are those gods of above and below. Other fleeting questions floated in your mind.

"I would rather allow Master Bildren to explain the matter of the fleeing gods. As for your former question, I am afraid...did brought you from your dream to Master's Livendagen's dream. It required a lot of strength for me to bring you here safety. This was no a choice i would prefer but there is no other way, An emissary must awaken the gods of above and below. The likes of you....so few and far between...I apologize for any inconvenience, young master."

The caretaker took out the empty dishes, he soon returned to you "The Pillar and Master Bildren wishes to see you, which one would you like to see first, Young master? Both are essential to your journey"

The caretaker silently guided you to Master Bildren's hall, this ...stench grew more and more pungent as you approached this hall.

"I would expect from the young master to mind his manners...." The Caretaker slowly opened the door revealing an abomination sitting in its sea of filth.

Witnessing this Master has unsettled you
+2 Insight

Bildren can be described as a headless bloated spider with arms and legs littering its filthy body. A black pus oozed from its many open wounds/pores. Currently it was drawing strange symbols on the wall with its mire.

"Master Bildren, The Young master is here. I shall leave you two...." The caretaker slowly closed the door behind you. You were barely capable of interpreting this....thing.

You could hear her voice burrowing in your head. "Fear not child of man, I mean no harm to you. Quite the opposite, really. I am Bildren, the goddess of duality of both Above and Below. Before we discuss our deed, I can ease your mind with some answers, young one."

"We are the children of the great one, we are to govern his realms and yet my brothers and sisters chose to forsaken their duty, something or someone has rallied them to do so. They fled here to the dream of the great one ever so changing and churning...."

More Blightful puss poured from her wounds "I am the great one's watcher, I have no control on the world and yet my task is as important as their roles. I searched for able minds to awaken the gods, First it was this young one, Livendagen. We created this place with great sacrifices. It is ever so difficult to maintain a stable place in this shifting dream...."

Bildren kept scribbling more symbols " He was capable of awakening the gods, some persisted creating a twisted nightmare of their former selves here. Yet he stood strong against all the horror thrown at him.

That was till he left his dream, never to return. It was essential to find a replacement, young one. Few can interpret the planes of the great one. You are one of these few. Does other questions plague you mind, young one? "

Ignoring the rancid stench, you did as she said, you felt different undulating textures coiling around you hand.

x20 Quicksilver acquired
x 1 Pusblood acquired

"Consider this Pusblood as a gift, young one . The poor pillar girl can use some warmth. Give her my regards. The Caretaker shall guide you in your journey. "

Bildren went silent for a moment, you could hear faint whispers around you. You could feel her talking to someone else in the manor. It wasn't the caretaker for certain.

After a gentle knock, the Caretaker entered the room with a clean towel and some fragrants. You still had more questions brimming inside but you had a feeling that now it wasn't the time.

The Caretaker cleaned you good, the stench s mostly gone "The Pillar is waiting for you , young master. She is a gentle thing. She..."

The caretaker fell silent for a moment, he guided you without a word to a more pleasant hall with lots of statues like a gallery.

One however was alive.

Fused to a pillar, this woman was of cold stone. Yet her eyes....they were livelier than any woman you have met. Memories, some are coming back.... you....you...

The caretaker left in silence leaving you with the living statue "Hello warm one, I am a Pillar, a living embodiment of this manor. I felt your steps. I felt....your warmth as you sit on the chair while eating. I...we are alive, the whole manor is. I..."

She looked flustered as a response to your confession "I am sorry, Emissary. I-i am to aid you in your journey no more...no less. Warm my heart with blood echoes and i shall strengthen your mind and body in this plane."

"So warm....so...warm" Uttered the pillar, she was indeed too cold, "Embrace my bitterness , warm one, allow me to lend you my strength"

You felt ...better after the embrace, all the pusblood was immediately absorbed. Giving her a brief moment of inner warmth. But said warmth vanished in a tick leaving bitter coldness in its place.

She felt...somewhat sickly if that made any sense, you had a couple of questions to ask.

"I-i am fine, Emissary, The manor always serves the Master and his followers...for that is our duty to fulfill. There are....no-no there is only me for you, Warm one. Deliver my thanks to the Mistress..." The Pillar shied away from your presnece with the arrival of the caretaker. He guided you to the back of the Manor. A twisted maze of sorts awaited you on this end.

"Horror and madness runs amok outside of this dream, young master. I have staged a small area for your arrival. It will test your skills and teach you valuable lessons....that is of course if you want to, I can guide you to the Lamp instead, it shall take you to the first step of your journey. The first is a waste of ammo, unless we can be assured of getting more blood echoes than we expend killing it. Not risking dying is also an upside.

Withered Blood Flower:

This now withered Flower tends to grow in places where blood of the innocent mingles with the soil. The bloom the most around the bloodwards in both New and forsaken Oorlith.

You felt the hedges slowly moving , but whenever you look, they were still....watching you in silence.

Four men and women with warped faces and sewn eyes seemed to worship an amalgamation of these blood flowers which formed a pillar of corpses around a small body of water. you can almost hear it moaning and crying

None of these poor creatures paid any attention to you. they kept pouring water and blood on the amalgamation. It appears that they were almost soothing it. They were certainly docile , even if they had some misintent , they were too frail and sickly too attack you.

You gunned down the warped one by one with ease wasting eight bullets in the process. They warped didn't react to their comrades' death; they were but husks, useless ones.

The moans of the Amalgamation soon grew into a wail then a howl of anger and rage. The collection of the blood flowers uprooted itself revealing a greater corpse of a giant of sorts. various thorns sprouted from his cacrass.

This one however, had all of his faculties. It was aware of all the pain, all the anger.

You wiggled around like a worm to set yourself free. With no weapon to cut these thorns and vines, It was a difficult task to achieve.

Nevertheless, you freed yourself with minor cuts. That is all what mattered. The rot has eaten most of his legs, A tower of corpses, he might be but said tower is slowly crumbling from reckless and rage-induced movements. It is enraged from the recent death of the followers you slaughtered.

You wondered how the caretaker managed to implement all this danger in such close distance to the manor. Why these abominations haven't stormed the manor?

The towering giant took a moment to re-balance itself. Now is you chance, either flee from this madness....or bring down this abomination.

the world around you dissipated upon touching the lamp. You found yourself in another part of the maze. The Caretaker was waiting for you.

The young Caretaker grabbed a serrated rifle from a nifty case, it had many joints and contraptions. Nothing like a regular rifle "...you have missed the most vital lesson of them all. Death . >Aim at a certain body part, shoot [-1 QS, Success +80]
Upper torso is easiest to hit, and should interfere with his usage of relatively long, heavy weapons like a rifle or spear.

Regardless, we ought to close in to engage him in hand-to-hand immediately after, so as to further use his weapon's length against him, or else simply grapple the weapon away from him.
>>
>>815363
We have no close range weapons though right?
>>
>>815365
It would at least put us on a level; our fists should hit about as hard as his fists.

In contrast, the options are to fight at mid-range, where he continually pressures us with his spear while we probably run out of ammunition, or to fight from afar, where he can just snipe us with his rifle.

Despite our not having any especial close range options, it is the best option of the three, especially if we can grapple his weapon away from him and then retreat to use it against him.
>>
>>815392
I think moving around quickly at midrange and shooting him would be much more effective. Punching him isn't gonna do shit
>>
>>815398
I would disagree. He is stated to have more experience and skill than us. It would likely be far easier for him to pressure us with his chosen weapon than for us to pressure him. And it would likely be easier for him to hit us while both of us are moving - because both of us WILL be moving - than for us to hit him.

And I'm certain this isn't the first time he's had to do this.

The best way to stand a chance of winning is to alter the circumstances of the engagement so that he cannot use is preferred method of combat - that is, to render the weapon he favors ineffective - and to do it unexpectedly, so that we have the most chance of overwhelming him before he can react.

And, as I said, stealing his weapon from him and using it ourselves is probably a good idea, if at all possible. Him punching us probably won't do shit to us either, but an actual fistfight would be the last resort.
>>
>>815340
>>815349
The caretaker didn't dodge when the bullet went straight through his shoulder. The man [red[ did no bleed [/red]. He didn't even stagger "Nicely done master, you aim with firearms is improving...."

In a blink, the Caretaker closed the distance scrapping your midsection with the edge of his spear. A furious kick sent you flying to the ground.

"However, An emissary should not rely on a single weapon..The world is brimmed with tools for the emissary to use .An emissary should not underestimate his foes...." Your vision was getting blurry, your belly felt like it was burning, a green bile was bubbling near your recent wound.

"An emissary should know when to retreat and when to fight...An emissary trust no one and expect the worst from every one, even myself young master."

A piercing shot went straight through your chest, you collapsed on the ground, wheezing in pain. "Finally, An emissary should accept death....as an inevitability or perhaps as a mean for progress . Please Close your eyes, young master. you have done well. "

YOU DIED

Not really. I had just assumed that they would give some kind of static or scaling bonus on related rolls (giving a +20 bonus to hitting with a firearm with 20 Bloodtinge), for instance, but that has its own problems.

As it is, I think it seems somewhat uncertain what the benefit of actually raising a stat is (as opposed to, for instance, purchasing a ton of quicksilver). The standard method of minmaxing a single weapon that you would regularly use in a Soulsborne game doesn't seem to work here.

It was time to visit this room the caretaker talked about. A room brimmed with lamps, It shall serve as a warping point to the outside world. Some lamps were twisted and coiled around themselves, most of them where unlit.

Only four showed radiance, A crude etching covered the poles, each with a different name: Milkwood forest , New Oorlith Bloodward , Tainted grounds [/blues] and Blackwood Quarters

Perhaps have quicksilver be a renewable resource, similar to Estus Flasks, that regenerate at lamps (or whatever checkpoint you use here), and sinking Blood Echoes into it increases our carrying capacity, or grants us some other improved effect?

As it is, all our confrontations so far that we've been able to use the pistol in are ones that have occurred at relatively close range, where a melee weapon would have worked just as well. As the pistol expends a limited resource, it should either deal vastly more damage than a melee weapon or offer some other benefit that a non-quicksilver-expending weapon doesn't give - for instance, the ability to eliminate enemies from extreme distances with no chance of counterattack, or completely bypass certain encounters, or enter otherwise inaccessible areas, or parry spam.

Keep in mind that QS is also used for Arcane
>>
>>815775
That was the main problem I was talking about. But it is the simplest method, and can be simply balanced by making some DCs harder, as one would expect against bosses and later enemies, while having the easier enemies and obstacles become increasingly trivial (as they should, once we become sufficiently experienced).

There are other rolling methods, but most wouldn't mesh well with the established rolling scheme (requiring differently-sized dice than the ones we are using, or some such) or are overly cumbersome (requiring MATH, or other tiresome things).
>>
>>815804
I like that plan a lot better.

The caretaker could not look at you straight in the face " Back when Master Livendagen has lent his body and mind to Master Bildren, She and I staged this...place out of his dreams. We....twisted this part of the dream. The area is contained by myself mostly. Master Bildren cares little about children of man she only follows the Great one's commands...."

There was a painful pause "Master Livendagen honed his skills against everything we threw at him here. We have done....terrible things to men and women of the waking world. We twisted them and brought them here against their will. Unlike you or Master Livendagen, their minds are too frail to comprehend this plane of existence. I....am not proud of my past. Please young master, I don't wish to speak about the past anymore."

You had more questions about these new areas but the caretaker was not in the mood to talk anymore.

I think I will end it here for today. Again, thank you so much for your participation.

hello.

It all depends on the weapons in hand(s). Currently with our Middens Pistol (Flintlock ) and our Nailfinger (Shortblade), we resemble the highwayman from darkest dungeon.

Some weapons will require to be wielded by two hands while other's trick mode can alter between ranged and close combat like the caretaker's rifle.

The Caretaker suggested easing your mind a bit by relaxing outside while he finishes some tasks in the manor

Again, Even with these graves, you felt peace and tranquility as you gave rest to your body and mind.

Nature,Raped and Violated , in the favor of industrialization and progress. Smokes of black Clouds of grey, covering the horizon...A fleeting memory echoed inside your mind. You....you....

You heard some whispers from an unknown source, they were awfully similar to the ones you heard while meeting Bildren for the first time. Another Mystery into the pile....

You felt someone or something licking your trigger finger. There was no suspect to be found.

The time for rest is over.

.

The Caretaker haven't set foot outside of the dream. Everything he knew was from Livendagen.

That was years, maybe decades ago.

Time is but a meaningless concept here. The Caretaker assured you so. As for the four areas, The old man spoke about them in brief:

The Milkwood forest is supposed to be an area devoid of violence and bloodshed. The humans living here willingly (or unwillingly) in the dream chopped down the majority of the forest, only a small pocket remain unscathed and untouched by man.

The tainted grounds used to be part of the Milkwood forest. Deforestation combined with the seas of corpses there created a cesspool of blight and disease.

The Blackwood Quarters used to be a part of Old Oorlith, the place is now mostly forsaken according to master Livendagen. Milkwood would be processed in this small working city

New Oorlith Bloodward is a cruel place; when the old Bloodward proved to be ....less efficient, a new Bloodward was constructed in New Oorlith; away from the stench of death of Forsaken Oorlith.

You world around you disappeared , you found yourself an among withered crops in a field.

Blackwood Quarters

The Lamp trickled Quicksilver for you to use. You wondered why the caretaker failed to mention this important note.

QS slots replenished 7/7

This land oozed with a black tar-like substance, It was vicious and thick with no smell and with a dull texture. Black Skies watched this desolate field. No sun, No moon with an endless abyss Above.

You could hear the distant sounds of crows and something...else. You were not sure what it was. The barn next to you troubled you the most; you heard some struggle between some beast and a very deranged woman "Ooooh~ this one i like it.....squirm a bit for me. You slowly approached the barn with your weapons drawn, The main double door was half opened. You took a quick peek.

A horrid scene awaited you.

The Deranged woman was covered in old blood, she barely wore anything of worth; just some tattered robe. Eyes, lots of eyes sprouted all over her skin. Some were human....others of different origin. She had a tool belt, it had lots of crude tools of iron, jagged, rusted and irregular.

She was on top a deformed crow . It had a vestigial human arms which sprouted small feathers. This crow was asymmetric and as big as a human adult. Its beak had teeth at random spots.

Currently the woman was carving its eyes out. She sensed your presence, you could feel it.

In a blink, she turned her head towards your direction revealing an eyeless face with lots of bulges. She had snitched them all...her eyes and the eyes she installed in her face.

"Hmmm? hmmmm, I....I oooh~ Is that you Livendagen? Aaaah, it has been quite a while. Yes, yes , yesss Ooooh, have you come with a gift for me? I....I cherish your presence, my dear..."

"ugh. you....are one of those Emissaries Livendagen talked about,no? yes, your clothes, I have seen them before. I see everything, I have been in amany places my dear"

She left the bleeding crow, sheathing her tools before circling around you like a watchful hound "Livendagen was a precious man....never to break a promise, never to harm the weak....such a pretty boy. You might just fill his shoes, heheheeee~"

She did want to touch you out of curiosity but it seemed like she was restraining herself "I am Histianne, ooh i love this name. Livendagen gave it to me...he gave me a boon to hold on to you see. Histianne thrashed her rage against the bleeding crow pulverizing it with an array of red tendrils summoned from the ether. She was not satisfied with this display of arcane, she ravaged the corpse with her carvers and other crude tools muttering nonsense in the mean time.

She panted heavily "Hah...hah, This damn wretched vermin...hah. I....ugh. No, no, no, this is not how you treat a friend of a friend. Give me insight and i shall trade some Arcane arts with you...better yet carve me some exotic eyes and i will reward you. "Any eyes you feel that they will fit my body, Men, beasts ....gods. It doesnt matter. Please, have my carver, it is a very delicate process my dear. I need those nerves intact....."

Eye Carver

A crude instrument used by the woman of eyes, it can be expanded to carve the widest of eyes

Her many eyes flickered out of the sudden "That damn caretaker sealed my eyes to 'protect' them as I arrived in his playground. Without eyes, one will fall as a victim to the spreading madness...one must see everything. You must understand this. Few eyes in this world can see the truth...if you can bring them to me,i can easily set you with a new pair. Trust Histianne, This one knows best...."

The sound of croaking crows briefly interrupted her "Livendagen found me as a waste thrown for him to slay, I still had some of my faculties. He...took pity on me. He sneaked me out of his dream nourishing me with his own blood. I owe this man more than my life, my dear. And so i helped him and he helped me....till he simply vanished. I can't see him...anymore" A trail of sadness ended her sentence.

A smaller crow found its way in the barn. The woman of eyes paid little attention to it " I travel a lot, I know some secrets and wonders here and there. This one is for free, There is a bloated crow in the field it has a weapon tucked in its gullet, beware....it is fond of ambushes and overwhelming its prey. I haven't entered the city itself but it is in ruins from the tar that washed over the eastern half of the city...."

Perhaps more blood echoes ought to make her spill more secrets.

Histianne paused for moment "You can not comprehend the simplest of my arcane arts, my dear...come back with more knowledge so we can trade madness for madness!"

With that said, you thanked her for time, you exited the barn. Eyes pinned to the east where the fallen quarters stand.

You left the woman of eyes in the barn, she has literally and figuratively seen a lot. She will be more than alright without you.

Pitch as black, you could barely see what is ahead of you. No sun, no moon to guide you. All the oil lamps and candles are long gone in these parts....all but the lone and fading solidarity of the dream lamp.

The Abysmal skies watched over this diseased lands. Naught a star lights your way. your mind is troubled

Wilted corn surrounded you, It was mostly black and sickly. This once-arable land has seen better days for certain.

You can feel them, Tappings of a hundred finger, unforeseen, unending. The sickly corn wavers signalling in imminent assault of these foes.

They were everywhere, behind you, in front of you toying with your fragile existence before ending it.

You chose to ignore it; there was no need to chase it.

As you moved to the east, a flare of blue light shined in the south like a blazing star leaving a faint tail of blue in its wake. Another riddle in these mysterious land....

Finally you have escaped the long coils of corn and tar. in the clear horizon you found a dangerously large number of twisted crows with the one Histianne warned you about laying on its back pretending to be just another corpse.

Most of these crows were asleep if that made any sense.. Either that or they are too lazy to watch their surroundings. The land ahead was painted in gruesome red. Perhaps, they had just finished a feast?

Some near the south noticed the blue flare, they were too lazy to pursue this strange source of light. Your eyes spotted secrets and wonders among the bloated flock, their numbers might be too frightening but a careful step might just allow you to slip by unnoticed.

You did found an what is left of an arm in this bloody field with a strange firearm.

Nakisakebu

A black Arquebus from a far away land with an engravings of something sinister, requires two Quick silver per shot. A devastating two handed weapon with great firepower and decent range.

Some of the crows were starting to gain awareness of the situation around them. The largest of them all was still pretending to be dead.

A sure shot went straight through the bloated crow's temple. Sadly its skull was too thick for a single bullet

The time for mere pretending was over, the beast was enraged by this grievous, head ringing injury. Most of the flock angrily wobbled towards a single man, you couldn't see him well even with all the lights in the skies.

He had a lot of firearms. The short, the long , the small, the bulky...you name it. He was also in chains for some reason.

This suicidal man has intentionally drew the attention of a whole bloated flock of these abominations. This might be just one lucky coincidence.

You wondered whether he had a plan or he was simply trigger happy. It didn't matter, few small crows are too lazy to move, they are but sitting targets for you.

You splattered the brains of one of the crows with one lucky shot. The largest of the crows stared at your soul for a second before hurling towards the sharpshooter ignoring you in the process. It croaked in anger at your general direction, about four small crows accompanied with eight larger crows were scathing the blood soaked soil yearning for your warm blood.

You only had four Quick silver left

You had to deal with those pesky vermins first. You slithered between your sluggish foes only to land a stab here, a thrash there. They had little time to react.

The fourth of the smaller crows managed to nib your leg while you were too busy slaying its kin. The recent wound will cripple your movement. A sharp bullet whizzed next to your feet ending the miserable life of the last of the smaller crows.

The sharpshooter has acknowledged your presence, he wished to aid you with his superior arsenal while dealing with the greater threat

Only four larger crows remained, they circled around you in the dark, their infested beaks are ready to rip you apart.

You couldn't fend yourself from the talons and beaks of your foes. A gash in your neck signaled your end.

YOU DIED

Quicksliver has been rifled.

Your dead corpse was reanimated near the lamp; you will never gain a true death, you are bound to this dream....this nightmare.

You woke up once more near the lamp, the barn upon was empty and abandoned, save for the two crow corpses. of course....

The sharpshooter was waiting for you, upon closer inspection, he did had a bloody chain with one loose end around most of his body with various ornamental lock, He had two pistols, a blunderbuss , a rifle and even a small handcanon weighting him down. A mask of iron was pressed deep in his face leaving an awful mark around it. Silver dots littered his bald head. He looked a bit tired but that was all, no apparent injury on him.

What is Insight? what is petty drops of blood? pebble! useless pebble! My blood runs with silver, it is more than a tool for cleansing. It is a way of life and worship Here, have this...."

He stared at your newly acquired Arquebus "Now, I riddled new holes in these beasts so i can have this weapon i have been looking for....I have this collection, see, and this lovely thing ought to swim endlessly in my fountain of silver. I have an eye on your pistol but i respect her and you buuut....I implore you to give me the Arquebus. "Do you hear that?" Your Pistol, Silver, became serious for a second. You did hear a distant buzzing sound from an unknown direction.

After claiming the eye, you continued marching to the east. High and ruined walls awaited you, their very base was corroded with this black tar. The main gate was closed shut. All the small holes in the gate poured more of this black tar.

"I don't like thi-" Not a second later, something or someone has rammed the main gate with full force. The sounds of a hundred chain rattled alongside a distorted chorus of gurgling children. The chains bound what or whoever was on the other side.

White sickly tongues forced their way out of here. These distorted voices suffered immensely to form a coherent sentence "L...L.e...a....ve.....u.....sssss"

Histianne inspected the eyes, she wasn't impressed with the crow's eye but the centipede's eye caught her attention. "Not baaaad, not bad for a first time....you must be more careful with the tiniest of nerves, they are delicate and fragile....now, where shall i put youuu~?"

The woman of eyes inspected her skin looking for a vacant spot, eventually she had to partially disrobe herself to pluck out a less important eye near her left thigh. She paid no attention to you as she snitched the new eye with absolute precision.

Her eyes twitched in excitement, some kept flickering while others simply rolls back. Eventually, The woman of eyes had to sit down "Thank you....this...ahh yes, a marvelous treat. Here, soak yourself with your reward....don't fret now; better eyes means better rewards..."

Ask about herself, shoot the breeze, ask questions about her craft or for tips about surviving in this place - I really just want to chat with NPCs at this stage.

Also, ask what kind of arcane secrets she would trade Insight for. It would be nice to know the stat requirements before heading off to level up.

That's not really how the Souls/Bloodborne series works.

Say something bizarre that sounds profound instead.
>>
>>831434
That's because, in the context of a video game, especially an action RPG, dialogue is severely limited by the nature of the medium.

Meanwhile, in a tabletop RPG or a quest - where NPCs aren't limited in dialogue by what has been programmed into them, but instead controlled by an actual person on the other end - conversations can be a lot more freeform. Here, the main reason an NPC would be unable to talk freely with us would be that they don't want to.

If we're going to be discovering these mad, insane worlds and places, I should very much like to discover those people who live in them as well.

According to Histianne, Colours determine the quality of the eyes...whatever that means....

"Your memory is surely lacking, no? I have told you before; this vermin in the dream twisted me to be another doll for Livendagen to slay in this vile maze of his. The poor lad took pity on me sneaking me out of his dream. He nourished me with his blood . I....I don't remember my past. It is all gone....you don't remember as well do you?"

The woman of eyes sympathized with you; both of you share the same pain "It doesn't matter now, this....mangling done to me has awaken a lust...for eyes and insight. Why attempt to fix myself while i can twist myself even more? There is no going back now. All these eyes....we forge our arts together to survive."

You asked Histianne about any tips in this harsh world "Oooh, I simply adore your naivety, i told you before; nothing is free. Give me your insight and i shall share my secrets and wonders with you. Don't frown, that is the way of things....Your mind is still dull my dear. My arcane arts are mostly offensive, you won't comprehend them at this state. "

>Petrified Pus [300 Blood Echoes each]: Pus of ages produced from Bildren's endless flesh, Returns the emissary back to the dream

>Revelation [Arcane required 20, 5000 Blood echoes ]: An Arcane art fashioned from the flesh of Bildren, Bloats the target's flesh. Any foe who will die from this terrible art will turn to an effigy for the goddess of duality.

>Bloated Fangirah [20 Bloodtinge 20 Skill required 10000 Blood echoes ] : A spraying device fashioned from the flesh of Bildren, A sprays molten flesh upon foes, can use either Quicksilver or Bloodechoes. Any foe killed by this weapon will be offered as an effigy to the goddess of duality.

>Fleshless Lake [2000 Blood echoes], A rune fashioned from the endless flesh of Bildren, Slightly strengthen's one's flesh against bleeding and poison and light attacks. The emissary will be offered as an effigy for Bildren upon death if he has this rune equipped.

The room of statues was a bit dim when you arrived. Most of the lamps weren't lit for a good reason.

Pillar was having a moment of respite, closing her stone, cold eyes. She quickly opened her eyes upon sensing your arrival. Ashamed of her innocent deed, she looked away "I-i am truly sorry ,emissary, my eyes will be always opened waiting for your arrival....and embrace...."

The flower you gave to the Pillar turned into cold marble. It sits on next to the Pillar " I...I felt your death. It hurts....so...so much , warm one. P-please , If your wounds are too much to bear, forfeit your task...return to my embrace; it will mend all of your wounds."

How has she been holding up? Bildren seemed to indicate she was somewhat distraught following our recent death.

Should we be giving her the Pusblood we just received, or is there some other use for it?

>Level up (up to six times leave you with 429 Blood echoes)
Since it seems we're going for Arcane arts at present, I'll say +6 Arcana.

By the time we can trade with Histianne, we ought to have enough for one more level up to the presumable threshold of 15.

Needless to say, we'll probably need to pick between Strength and Skill if we ever decide to go for a melee route.

Eh, for what it's worth I think the pacing is fine tough we are quite early in the quest
>>
>>831593
Pace seems fine for an open-world sort of game. Note that, from a narrative standpoint, if there is some kind of underlying plot that we ought to be advancing, we'll probably take some time to get to it at the current rate.

In any case, things are moving decently enough to not seem stagnant right now. Understandably, events are only happening as quickly as we effect them, which is currently not terribly fast - though once we start acquiring significant power (and possibly attracting the attention of beings who will actively seek us out or act against us), I might hope the pace will pick up correspondingly.

Run whatever times are most convenient for you, OP.

One thing that I should note is that, at least from my perspective, stat and weapon purchases are somewhat blind for us at the moment. As you might tell from the most recent update, we're all basically doing guesswork as to what effects our stats will have.

At this point, stats have no clear benefit aside from allowing us to use different weapons, which have similarly nebulous differences in effect between them. The opportunity cost of actually buying a weapon to test it out is rather high, given the many other things we could invest in instead.

Perhaps the differences will become more noticeable later on; but right now, between the Nailfinger and pistol, the only effective difference we can see is that we trade of Quicksilver for increased chance of success (and it's still unclear whether that's actually due to the weapon itself or the stat used). As it is, we have no idea what the effective difference between 15 Bloodtinge and 16 Bloodtinge is.

The gist of the matter is that, with purchases being as blind as they are, I hope you don't mind or find it surprising when our character inevitably becomes a horribly unoptimized mess of randomly-bought stats and weapons. Admittedly, buying everything ever wouldn't be the worst thing we could do, because finishing a Soulsborne game always comes second to making your character as fashionable as possible.

Also, how soon can we expect the inevitable waifu boss battle?
>>
>>831659
thank you for your input, anon, truly appreciated.

you mean the pillar? Midden's Pistol? Histianne? I will not endanger the plot for the sake of Waifus (They are not my primary concern, really). Every NPC is bound by a certain fate, some are influenced by the MC...others not so much.

So back to your question, this 'boss battle' is an uncertainty at best. Should it serve the plot then so be it (The waifu had actual goals which conflicted with the MC's goals.)

I will be honest, I am not into that kind of thing, the whole waifu pandering thing. If my previous actions proved otherwise, then apologies, this is not my intention. Every character has a purpose AND coexists within the plot.

Well, shit
That fly is soooo going to get punched
>>

we will start in a few minutes
>>
Again, you were reborn near the Forest's lamp. This damn fly has tricked you, it will pay the price real soon.

You recalled your promise to Ayne, You are not wanted here, you were certain that these spiders would attempt to tear you to bits.

Still, you felt an strange aura in this place. Mayhaps there is a god here? waiting to be awakened by your blade? Afterall, It is your sole duty.

For some reason, you felt the need to respect your promise. It was also for the best; forging enemies this early is not a bright idea. You silently touched the lamp vanishing from these peaceful forest.

.

You found the caretaker waiting for you outside of the lamp room. He looked somewhat impaitent "Young Master, May I discuss something with you....in private?"

>Accept
>Politley refuse

"Very well, follow me, young master."

It was perhaps the first time you took these old stairs to the second floor with the caretaker. This floor wasn't lit at all; layers of dust and dirt, cobwebs....clear signs of intentional negligence.

The Caretaker guided you to a small room with a hefty lock. Said room was charred and black, it had many hollow frames, ...burnt frames with no portraits.

"In here, the manor will not hear our conversation. Now, I will delve straight into my request. Master Livendagen have...slipped some unfortunate souls out of this dream without my permission. He thought he could 'save' these twisted souls. I believe Master Livendagen was mistaken....a rare instance, I am aware."

The Caretaker pulled out his smoke pipe relieving himself with some tobacco "I am certain that some will survive the horrors outside. My request is rather simple:End their misery, their purpose has ended long ago with Master Livendagen's departure. I will give you a rune to identify them , it will also help you, young master..."

"Wise choice, young master, Thank you."

The Caretaker gave you:

Motherless Lake

You felt like you should explore the maze more; the caretaker did speak of treasures there for you to claim.

In the lamp room, The caretaker has activated a twisted lamp which ought to bring you back where you were outskilled by the old man.

.

As you have arrived, more wrapped abominations of men awaited you, they seemed to worship a bloodstained patch where your blood was spilled.

A mark of coal and black blood was etched upon the foreheads of the failures. Some could not withstand the twirling pain, others crawling towards you with a glimmer of hope to end their suffering

You poured Silverblood on the corpse, It twitched violently before melting among the hedges. The stew of flesh and vines formed a pulsating gate of flesh, it pulsates with twisted forms of life beyond your comprehension.

Man I just reread the whole thread and the short stories and I still have no idea
>>
>>838202
It's quite possible that we simply haven't yet chanced upon any knowledge relating to it, given how open the exploration of the world has been. Also, the short stories' contents aren't really things we ought to know in character.

The other anon's guess is a decent one. At the very least, we can reasonably assume that it's some kind of god. It might possibly even be Bildren herself.

But we have no way of knowing for certain.

To ask about the maze and how it was made.

Incidentally, were we able to see anything before we died? Were we even still attached to our body?
>>
>>838219
Follow the sound of weeping.

I feel like we're not making any real progress, just dying pointlessly. And I have no idea what's really going on
>>
>>838240
>>838242
The Pillar was indeed the source of these. You couldn't help but to notice a minuscule crack, at the very base of the pillar.

"Warm one, It....it hurts...So much, the pain...."

You asked the Pillar if there is anything you could do for her, she simply shook her head "Warm one, please stay safe...I ...I apologies for a-any inconvenience.I-if weeping troubles you then i will keep it.....inside."

>Say something to the Pillar
>Go to The Caretaker

>>838242
he already told us before, he and Bildren build this maze based on the dreams of Livendagen. The caretaker twisted the maze so it can be a training grounds of sorts

our existence was basically gone at this point we were in a void with ______
>>838255
We are not.

Maybe because i gave a large ground to cover. Currently, we have a lot of loose ends. Do you want me to railroad the quest? Sometimes linear experiences can be better

The quest is steered by the players,.
>>
>>838273
I feel like we need a little more direction from you on how to proceed but other players might disagree
>>
>>838273
Let's go kill that fuckin fly
>>
>>838273
>Say something to the Pillar
She needn't hold it in; that would only pain her all the worse, would it not? Please, if there is anything we can do to help her, she need only say so.

We... regret that 'not dying' is not something we're particularly capable of doing at present, though.

>he and Bildren build this maze based on the dreams of Livendagen. The caretaker twisted the maze so it can be a training grounds of sorts
That would imply that the maze was here before that. But didn't Bildren mention they had also created 'this place'? Can I assume that to mean that this entire 'dream' was created from Livendagen's, and the maze was present before that, in some other (less twisted) form?
>>
>>838273
Also, I have no objections to the open-world style, but I guess some other players might prefer a faster pace.

As it is, we're amassing power at such a glacial rate that we'll probably still be no credible threat to anything 3 threads from now. If that's the intention, that we be a tiny insignificant speck beholden to beings far greater in power than we are, then go ahead.

If, instead, we're supposed to soon be gaining power enough to challenge them, then perhaps a slightly quicker pace of events, or a tad more guidance might be necessary.
>>
I am sorry anons, i feel tired after five hours. sorry for not achieving any palpable progress. we will have to end it for now.

thank you for your participation

>>838285
alright.

our main objective is to find and awaken any god we encounter. Some areas has gods of above and below, others don't. either ways, we will have to search the starting areas looking for these gods.

>>838300
your interpretation is correct.
>>
>>838313
we barely scratched the surface even after a week. this is probably not a good sign.

>>

I suppose the question I should be asking would then instead be "How was this dream made?"

And perhaps "What exactly is Silverblood?" as well.

I wonder if I'm anywhere going anywhere useful with this line of thought.
