Welcome back to Demon Overlord Quest. Last time our hero, the demon Gneotho, learned of the demise of the previous Overlord of his home Netherworld, Potential X, and entered the tournament to take the title. However, the Seneschal of the Overlord, Brynn added a twist to the tournament. The Wheel of Destiny is a dubious device that unlocks the true fate meant for the user. From Gneotho's spin of the wheel, he was transformed into a stalwart Armor Knight (and also a girl!) Without much time to recover from such a change, our hero as flung into the first bout of the tournament against a Gunner named Doc Floofers. The battle was brief and straightforward for the tanky individual such as Gneotho. The second match was declared as the Gneotho returned to the main hall of the Palace.

Seneschal Brynn wasted no time in announcing the next match and sending the combatants to their arena dimension. Kain, who turns out to have been that blonde demon from earlier, puts up a fierce fight against the Skull, Hexagramaton. The male mage's spells are intense, but Kain's fury knows no bounds it seems. For the first time since your transformation, the attention is away from you and you have the ability to move about at your leisure.

What do you do?

>I took some damage, I should get healed.
>I should watch the match and gather information on my opponents.
>Mingle with the crowd. If I talk with them, I might be able to expose some weaknesses to exploit later on.

I'm thinking it was a bad idea to try to run today. Anyway, writing now.

You examine your body and shrug. You didn't taken any significant damage from Floofers, so there's no reason to go see a healer. Right now, Kain and Hexagramaton are in the spotlight, and it would be rude to no pay attention. You move closer to the viewing screen reaching over the North wall of the main hall. The combatants appear to be in some sort of bog. You don't know what the name of the arena was since you weren't paying attention to the announcement.

Hexagramaton is alternating between setting fires and fleeing from the expletive-spewing whirlwind of blades that is Kain. Despite her small frame, Kain is making deep gashes through just about everything the Skull throws her way. The Valkyrie seems to be gaining on her opponent.

OH! Hexagramaton has slipped in some sludge and landed hard on his back! Kain leaps into the air ready to plunge her blade through the squishy, muddy, magician, but Hexagramaton isn't giving up that easily! He puts a hand in front of him and shouts out.

"STAR!"

A blast of non-elemental magic surges forward right into the airborne Kain! Unable to dodge out of the way, the Valkyrie eats to whole attack and is knocked yards away into the murky waters! Hexagramaton takes the opportunity to turn the tide by standing back up and launching another Star spell. The incantation hits the water with an explosion. He launches another! And another! And another!

He stops, finally, alternating between panting and chuckling to himself. But Kain, covered in muck, water and her own blood, rises from the bog behind Hexagramaton and runs him through with her spear! The one, final hit is enough to bring down the Skull and he disappears into twin wisps of light!

The other contestants break out into a mix of applause, cheers, jeers and laughs. The filthy, bloody Valkyrie teleports back into the main hall before collapsing on the floor. She doesn't seem able to move much on her own, too exhausted from the fight. She snarls and glares at the Clergy and Cleric, garbed in the colors of the Palace, who collect her and bring her to the cordoned off area in the South West corner of the marble and gold hall. You squint at the tiny sign taped to the pillar near the section and are able to make out the word "Hospital."

Brynn interrupts the cacophonous commotion with the announcements for the next fight. "NEXT UP IS... HIDDEN MAUL THE SKULL?! Er... VERSUS... ZILRHAT THE PIRATE! THEIR ARENA IS... PIXEL GALAXY!"

The two combatants are teleported away.

Do you...

>Continue observing fights.

>Check on Kain.
>>
>>795343
You decide to congratulate Kain on her victory against the Skull. It takes a bit of effort, but you finally push through the crowd and trudge your way to the area designated 'Hospital.' It appears that this hospital is nothing more than six of cots behind velvet cords and a musical stand with the paper sign taped to it. It seems like this make shift clinic, like the sign up table, were last minute thoughts. Your observe the medical staff restraining Kain on the middle cot on the left side. The Valkyrie is snarling and cursing at them as the calmly ask her to stay still so they can heal more of her injuries.

How do you want to approach this?

One would think that demons are used to randomly change into different job classes and species considering that one that works for an overlord is usually reincarnated into prinnies or monsters on a whim of their masters. At least Kain should be glad she's not a succubus
>>
>>797637
>>797790
I actually didn't know that! That's quite helpful! Thank you for the info.

>>797873
Its less to do with reincarnating as much as what Brynn said about this particular way of reincarnation. Regular incarnation is a bit more controlled than what Brynn described the Wheel of Destiny doing.

Anyway, I'm back now, and I'll start writing immediately.

"Hey there, Kain!" You smile as you address the violently thrashing Valkyrie. She glares at you as you continue, "I wanted to congratulate you on your victory and see how you were doing." You playfully rock back and forth on your heels. Everyone pauses as they take in your sincerity. If you could visibly perform a record scratch as a person, this is what you think it would look like. Your nerves start to flare up at the incredulous looks from the Clergy and Cleric, but finally Kain replies.

"Bullshit. What do you really want?"

>No, I really mean it. That was a great fight!
>No, I really mean it. That was an excellent source of entertainment. Have you thought about being a gladiator?
>No, I really mean it. The whole thing was hilarious start to finish.
>You found me out. I wanted to see how great a threat you were to me.

"No, really," You nod in assurance, "It was an amazing fight. I was enthralled! You coming up from behind like that was crazy! You should have heard the crowd! Everyone was impressed, though I'm sure they'd never admit it. Have you ever thought about being a gladiator?" You gush a little about the battle and your thoughts on it. The healing staff lose interest and start to leave the two of you. Your positive praise makes Kain look a little uncomfortable. Is she not used to that? You remember her (or, really him at that point) having an air of superiority and looking like she could crush anyone around her. You don't press the issue right away. Kain stares at you for a while and you feel your nerves come creeping back.

"Also I wanted to some of these scratches fixed up before the next round." You smile sheepishly as the Clergy floats by. He snaps his fingers and magic heals you up to perfect health. You even think your armor is a little shinier than before. Before you can say anything, the petite male demon floats as quickly past you as he arrived. Kain's gaze doesn't waver like he expects more than that.

"And... maybe since both of us used to be guys..." You trail off for a second before finishing your thought, almost embarrassed that you have to ask for help. "Maybe we could be allies. Make sure no one can try to take us out before the fights. We're both strong fighters, and Brynn can't stop other demons from bringing in outside weapons. At least not all of them." Kain blinks and stares hard at you. You tried to read him right back. It is healthy for a demon to be suspicious of others. After all, this is the Netherworld. The silence seems to stretch on for an aching eternity before Kain speaks again.

"Why? I'll just have to beat you eventually. Why not just take you out here and save you the humiliating defeat?" Such doubt...

"Because even a Demon Overlord needs allies and people they can trust. Wasn't one Overlord taken out by poisoned food, and another was shot while he was asleep? If you have no one then it doesn't matter how strong you are, you will eventually lose." Your expression and tone emphasize your point and Kain's eyes drop from you. "Ghraanus might have had the longest reign of any Potential X Overlord, but that was only a decade. Ten. Years. Kain, I don't know about you but I'd want to last much longer than that if I were in charge, wouldn't you?"

Another stretch of silence overtakes the two of you before Kain responds. "You... have a point. And having an Armor Knight body guard would make annihilating this tournament that much easier." You make a face, but he's acknowledging your point, so that's something. "Fine. We'll be partners. But just so we're clear, I'm not going to go easy on you when we fight." She doesn't smile, but you observe a certain tension in her shoulders dissipate.

The headmaid, another Cleric shoos you out of "her infirmary" since you are no longer in need of healing and have finished your conversation with one of her charges. A few more fights have finished in the first round. You look up to watch another bout complete and the next announced.

You decide to take this opportunity to observe the crowd and maybe gain some ammunition for the fights to come. The crowd seems to have separated into a few separate groups. Those that aren't watching the fight are doing something similar to you. They eye the crowd with mixed looks of arrogance and hatred... maybe a little jealously from a few. You walk through the crowds as they watch the fight or each other. The demon that had been transformed into a Bear stares directly at you as you pass by. You aren't sure what its thinking now. Its gaze is a little unsettling.

Distracted by the monster, you notice too late that you are about to bump into someone. The contact is light, but with enough force to make them take a couple of steps forward to keep from falling over.

"Sorry." A feminine voice rises from the demon. She turns around and you see a Cleric with dark circles under her eyes. Its strange. It seemed like when the Wheel of Destiny transformed a demon it completely changed their appearance to fit their new role. And as far as you know, every single demon who spun the wheel had been changed.

>"No I'm sorry I wasn't watching where I was going."
>"Watch where you're going, Cleric."

"No I'm sorry I wasn't watching where I was going."

Those that know how to heal know how to kill, be polite.

"You look tired, why don't you take a break?"

"Sorry I didn't see you there. I was distracted by that Bear over there." You look back at the Bear. It is still staring at you. It's starting to creep you out.

"Yeah that's Tank. He's always been like that. At least that's what I gathered." The Cleric brushes herself off and reflexively makes a motion like she was pushing up a pair of glasses. She doesn't seem to have noticed the tic, but its easy to surmise that it's something left over from her original form like the dark circles.

"You look tired. Are you okay?" You inquire.

"My, your a blunt one." She laughs a little. "No, I'm fine. Just a trophy for centuries of work in the arcane arts. Ohohohoho! Now dear, Gneotho, was it? I have a proposal for you if you care to hear it."

>Yeah sure.

>>798911
"Yeah, sure." You agree without missing a beat, which surprises the Cleric. "I'm guessing you were a witch before the Wheel of Destiny change?"

"Yes, well sort of anyway.." She says proudly in a matter of fact voice. " I was a sorceress and a powerful one at that. I had been biding my time in order to time my ascension to the throne; gathering information on potential opponents and whatnot. In another week or so, I would have made my play for Ghraanus.

"Anyway, I wanted to ask you to team up with me. While my magic is still quite powerful, I'm at more of a disadvantage here with the complete shift in magic available. You being an Armor Knight would be ideal to protect me from threats when we take out Brynn and end this farce of a tournament."

"Hahaha! Really, you think a Cleric and a Armor Knight can defeat him? No. If you were still a sorceress and had an army then maybe you could kill him. Now? Now you will have to max out your level and try to get a better reincarnation by not using that damn wheel. Overlords are taken out by trickery and a lot of power. Right now you lack both. You aren't close enough to him to poison him or make him fall, and you don't have enough power. Really, do I look like an idiot or something?"
>>
>>798970
>>What wait a second. Attack Brynn? Isn't he running this whole thing?

I just want to hear her version of the story. At least you don't know shit about Brynn and because in disgaea authority usually means being stupid powerful, so odds are that he could one shoot any overlord wannabe and does the tournament out of formality and to not fall in the usual chaos of overlord succession, although I could be wrong

You blink in surprise as she reveals her plan.

"Whoa whoa whoa, there! You want to run that by me again? It sounded like you want to just disregard the tourney and take out Brynn."

"That's exactly what I want to do." The Cleric looks you dead in the eye. "This whole thing is set up. A distraction created by Brynn while he and little goons to wear us down so he can sweep in and take the title for himself once the finalist is announced. I'm sure of it! Why else would he forces contestants to 'unlock their true destiny.'" She uses a mocking voice to emphasize her point. "The tournament is a ploy to destroy and disarm the majority of his competition. We haven't unlocked anything but a Potential disaster."

"But don't you think your aiming a bit high for a Cleric? An Armor Knight can only get you so far. He's a demon in power with a miniature army of his own. We'd get wiped out." You raise your points of concern.

"Well obviously I'm going to recruit more demons. I'm not an idiot." She folds her arms and makes a pout. "I've been looking into contestants and been weighing their worth. You just happened to be near the top of the list. Either you or the other Armor Knight."

You debate the pros and cons of just knocking her out and getting on your way before she pipes up again. "W-wait. Just hear me out here! I'm not even interested in being Overlord anymore. I just want my magic back. All those years and spells stripped away because of that old prune's desire for the title have left a bad taste in my mouth. Your look is unchanging and the Cleric sighs in resignation.

"Fine, then. Do what you must." She droops her shoulders just as your arm shoots out to sock her in the jaw. The buxom woman is thrown to the ground like a bag of potatoes from the force of your uppercut. A malicious grin smears across your face as you grab her by the hair and drag her across the floor. The crowd is equal parts uncaring and unawares as she screams out in pain and terror. "Please... please don't. No... I I was going to give it to you. Th-there's no need to do this! F-Fine you want to be in charge of the whole thing, fine! I-Its yours. Just let me go, please." She sobs and shrieks, afraid of what you might do to her.

Across the polished marble floor, you drag her squirming body to a darkened corner and toss her against the wall hard. She scrambles into the corner like a frightened animal, desperately clutching at her head. You rip one of the tapestries down and take the golden rope trim to use as binds.

"You're mine now. My desires are your desires. Serve me and be rich or betray me and suffer my fury." Your voice is cold and commanding, a far departure from your demeanor with Kain and even from earlier with this same demon. "If I become Overlord, I will let you reincarnate then, but I am not going to let and idiot like you attempt to form an army. You're a Cleric. Do you think they'd listen to a base class like you? Sure, this tournament is probably a trap or some kind of game for Brynn. Sure, you were a powerful sorceress before this affair began, but you aren't now. What would even have done if, by some miracle you won?" You loom down on her as she trembles.

"I... I was going to change myself back and leave this awful place. I don't want it anymore. The demons are stupid here. S-save you, of course." She switches positions to prostrate herself before you, like a minion should to their master. "Please.. don't kill me. I'll serve you, my lady... lord... whatever you want to be called."

"What is your name, my servant?" You ask gently while still retaining your air of power and dominance.

Consider listening what she knows about Brynn and try to research on your own about him in your free time. You are not a puppet to be played by any puppetmaster be a cleric or a mysterious man. If he truly plans to use the tournament to get rid of overlord candidates, some measurements must be taken. Also, the whole reincarnating people into random classes, because it is suspicious he would turn somebody who was a soceress her whole life into a healer, a role unfit for her.

"I want you to know, Anasael, I am not ignoring your plans. I am just taking them as my own and shaping them for my purpose. Now tell me what you know about Brynn." You stoop down on your knees to look the still shivering Cleric in the eyes. She warily shakes her head in understanding.

"U-um... Brynn isn't a powerful demon, but he has ingratiated himself to several of the past few Overlords of Potential X. Every time one of them died, Brynn stepped up to serve the next new ruler. Most likely, he was been the inside man of every coup attempted here; successful or failed. He has also had the ear of every Overlord he's served because of his aid in their rise to power. My theory is that he thinks himself finally strong enough to assume the throne himself. He probably orchestrated the unfortunate accident that befell Ghraanus. His true power is well hidden and should be treated as a credible threat for now. He has made allies of the servants of the Palace and as far as I have gathered, all are ready to fight for him should the need arise. Most of them exist at a power comparable to any of the demons here. That is a summary of the most important information.

She rambles on a little fast, but the information makes it's way to you without a problem. "Good. Now then, I can cover for you if your name gets called for the tournament. I want you to see about gathering me some superior gear for the assault. Oh, and give me the list of potential allies among the contestants." She complies with you quickly, handing you a notebook before scurrying away like a frightened cat.

You emerge from the corner greeted by a mix of stares. You shrug it off and look at the list:

Kain- Valkyrie
Gneotho- Armor Knight
Graive- Valkyrie
Maconon- Dark Knight
Nahiel- Fight Mistress
Lingo- Horseman
Tank- Bear
Dan- Armor Knight
Mystery Person 14?- Dark Knight
Cinderrun- Clergy

While you examine the list the next fight begins. It is the second to last fight of the first round. The final combatants after this round are announced early. Anasael versus Crack Addict (Warrior). It doesn't look like Anasael is going to win this tournament, though you suppose that doesn't matter. Though you do remember that you haven't seen any of the losers being teleported back to the hall.

It is indeed a good question to wonder about what happened to the losers. This Brynn fella is quite suspicious
>>
It disturbs you that you haven't seen Doc Floofers or any of the other losers reappear since their defeat and you put it on your immediate 'to-do' list. You just made her your minion, you'd be a poor master to lose her before she could prove herself useful. You decide to try to intervene on her behalf. You approach Brynn at the front.

"Yes, young lady? Do you have a question?" Brynn greets you with a friendly smile.

"I'd like to take the place of Anasael in the next fight. Cleric versus Warrior isn't very exciting, let alone fair." You decide the blunt approach is the best way. So far you have been exceedingly public with your altruism and trend towards alliances. And if Brynn indeed does have the whole Palace staff in his pocket, the Head maid probably reported your proposed partnership with Kain already, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

"Hmm?" Brynn muses to himself while staring at you with an unmoving smile. "I think I could arrange something like that. You're right about the fight being boring. Completely one-sided and not worthy of a fight in the tournament. Don't worry about it I'll be sure your little friend gets a fighting chance! Huhuhuhuhuhu!"

You blink with surprise. That was fast. For everything that you heard from Anasael, you expected him to put up more resistance to you messing with the order of things.

"Now run along, Gneotho! You have a match to get ready for!" He continues on, waving for you to move on. As you leave, the Seneschal addressed the remaining crowd. "ATTENTION PARTICIPANTS! I MUST INFORM YOU OF A CHANGE! IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE FIGHT BETWEEN ANASAEL AND CRACK ADDICT MIGHT NOT BE A FAIR FIGHT. AND I AGREE. SO I MUST ANNOUNCE A SLIGHT CHANGE. THE ARMOR KNIGHT GNEOTHO HAS VOLUNTEERED TO FIGHT FOR ANASAEL, BUT AS TO NOT ROB THE YOUNG CLERIC OF HER SPOT IN THE TOURNAMENT, I HAVE DECIDED TO INSTEAD COMBINE THE LAST FIGHT WITH GNEOTHO'S SECOND ROUND MATCH! THEREFORE BECOMING A 2 VS 2 BRAWL. HHUHUHUHUHUHUHU!"

Of course. Son of a bitch.

Shit. Your thoughts rush through your head. Most of them are filled with expletives and curses towards Brynn for the surprise, but some are of possible locations Anasael may have gone to. The hall is filled with more people than you remember, but its possible after sign ups completed Brynn invited other inhabitants of Potential X to spectate. Your search is mostly fruitless, but a few moments before the end of the current fight, you find her talking with two roguish looking demons next to a merchant cart. With a certain amount of surprise, Anasael notices you and your disgruntled look.

"O-oh um master I was just doing what you asked. These people are vendors for Rosen Queen Co. and I was just buying us some supplies. Did you need something?"

You fill her in on the current events.

"Oh... phooey." She looks defeatedly at you. "Well, you the boss here. What's our plan?"

"I can take the hits and dish them back out. Just stay behind me and keep me healed up. If I go down, we both go down. And neither us want to find out where the losers go under those conditions." You look at her with a serious face and she nods back in understanding. "But before we do that, we need to give ourselves and edge." You glance as the Rosen Queen merchants. "Hi there. I'd like to make a purchase." You smile at the workers, who then smile back.

You pick up your items, spending just about all of your Hel and hand a majority of it off to Anasael. She looks at the items and then looking back at you. "A-are you sure? That was almost all of your money and your only keeping the stick?"

"I'd be a terrible Overlord if I couldn't protect my underlings. Plus you keeping me alive in the fight keeps us both alive. Plus, I'm already tougher enough withstand most of what these chumps can do with the supplied weapons." You smile confidently and point at yourself. She stares at your wide-eyed for a moment a small blush forming on her cheeks.

>Anasael's Opinion of you raised to -40.

As you finish donning your gear, you hear a distant Brynn announcing the location of the next arena. "THE NEXT FIGHT IS ABOUT TO BEGIN GNEOTHO AND ANASAEL VERSUS CRACK ADDICT AND TANK! THEY WILL BE FIGHTING IN... CRAG MIRE!"

Even with the gear, Anasael looks worried at the announcement of the second combatant. Tank has already proved himself in the arena, it seems, and left quite the impression on her.

"Get behind me! We'll teleport into the arena in formation. They can't get the drop on us then!" You shout over the crowd as the teleportation effects start. Hurriedly, she obeys you clutching to your chest. You can feel her tense breathing and heartbeat on your back. The teleportation magic is swift and familiar now. The two of you land on your feet, though Anasael looks queasy. You forget that it is still her first time through. To ease her feelings you speak again.

"Don't worry. As long as I'm standing nothing can harm you. So just focus on keeping me that way." You smile gently at her and she nervously nods and tries to calm down.

>Anasael's Opinion of you raises to -38.

"What can you tell me about Tank?" You ask her as you keep an eye on the rust red, rocky cliffs that surround you. The whole area below the raised mesa you stand on is covered in a dreary fog the consistency of tomato soup. If the name is to believed, a bog hides under that thick mist.

"Tank was a Wrestler before the tournament according to my sources." The Cleric seems to get calmer the more she explains. "So not a lot of changes between that and his current class. He specialized in throwing things... and people. In his debut brawl, though he ripped the arms right off Sabiel the Martial Artist he was paired up against." Erk... this might be a tougher match than the one against Floofers.

You heard something once about wrestling bears. So different class or not, Tank should be your first target. Since you are fighting two oponents you should aim for a quick kill. His heart or brain, maybe wait until he opens his mouth and use the spear on his mouth to go directly to his brain? Whatever works. Since the spear is made of wood, the heart or the mouth then.
>>

>>Take the offensive

You decide that it would be better to find Tank before he or Crack Addict find you. You motion with your head for Anasael to follow. "We find Tank and finish him off first Crack Addict should be easy as pie comparatively." She follows close behind. You keep your spear at the ready and march forward.

The fog rises and covers the ground as you continue to the end of the mesa. The drop into the bog beneath is far and quite sheer. You narrow your eyes and grip your spear tighter as you slowly look over the edge. You nearly jump out of your skin as a brown paw tipped with bright red, glowing claws springs up onto the ledge. Before you can react, Tank the Bear pushes off the cliff and rockets into the sky using his insane arm strength. His face is nothing but red, angry, glowing eyes and a matching toothy grimace. You rest your spear on your shoulder and point triumphantly at yourself with your thumb. Behind your shoulder Tank's corpse rapidly disappears from sight eventually fading away completely with a small sparkle of light in the distance.

You're sure that the crowd back at the palace is erupting into pandemonium by now with such a move. For now, you'll have to settle for the solo applause of Anasael. Wait... why isn't she applauding? Why does she look so horrif-

"Lady Gneotho! Please don't die!" Your Cleric cries out as she casts a healing spell. The Ladle you bought for Anasael releases a blinding white light and you feel the jagged hole in your stomach knit back together. Coughing up a little bit of blood, you stagger back to your feet.

"Hey, hey, hey! I ran you through! Stay down like a good little girl and maybe I'll give you a place in my harem when I'm Overlord!" The Warrior named Crack Addict points at you with a crazed, irritated look in his eyes. "Did you think you were the only ones who thought to bring in special weapons?" He brandishes the blade. It looks even nastier than it did while it was stuck in your back. "This is the Blender! Designed specifically to deal with armored bitches like you! Geheeeheheheheeheehee! Surrender now and I might even make you top concubine! Maybe..."

You are unimpressed. Anasael's healing was top notch and you feel that, despite his supposedly superior weaponry, you could destroy him.

"Maybe but the problem with that is..." You start off, your arms folded across your chest, defiantly. From behind you in an angry voice you hear your Cleric complete your sentence.

"MY NAME ISN'T STUPID! YOU'RE NAME IS STUPID!" He shouts angrily at you as he charges this time. His sword is low. It looks like he is aiming for an upward strike. You have reach on your side, but he has greater power and a weapon that can cut through your armor like butter. Still, you have to try. You ready your spear and prepare to dodge around the attack. A blazing fire twinkles in your eyes as you see your chance! You use your exceptional strength to launch Crack Addict into the air with an upward strike with the shaft of your spear before leaping up after him. You strike through him once... twice... three times... four! Five! Six! Seven! Eight times in a blur of motions. You kneel as you touch down on the stony mesa. The white wisps that signify defeat don't even make it to the ground before they fade away.

"A weakling like you could never hope to be Overlord." You utter, casually leering at where your opponent used to be. You once again imagine the absolute chaos your victory has caused over in Potential X. For now, you have Anasael to fill that purpose.

"Lady Gneotho! That was amazing! You truly are the best choice for Overlord in this tournament!" She shouts as she runs towards you. She skids to a halt a good foot and a half away and bows to you just as the teleportation magic takes the two of your back.

Just as you predicted, the crowd is going nuts for you. Brynn, too, looks completely energized by your display. "WHAT AN AMAZING FIGHT, LADIES AND GENTLEMENT! >>Bask in your well-earned praise.
We're a public figure now.
Putting Anasael into the spotlight won't do us any good. At worst the others will get this silly idea of doing actual teamwork into their silly demon heads and we can't allow that.

You raise your hands and smile proudly for the jubilant crowds. You laugh triumphantly as you leave the stage, Anasael meekly following behind you. You wander to the back as attention returns to viewing screen for the next fight. Finally with the attention off of you, you turn to your Cleric and address her.

"You did a good job out there. Your healing was critical to our survival. I couldn't have won without you, Anasael. Thank you." You smile gently and place your hand on her head. Her first instinct is to flinch- afraid of your raised hand- but she eases as she recognizes its benign purpose.

"T-thank you, my lady. I was only following your strategy, though." She turns her head away in a show of modesty, a faint smile appearing on her lips.

The two of you hear heavy footsteps behind you and quickly snap to the source of the sound. A petite girl with green hair approaches from the crowd. She wears a cocky, aggressive grin is plastered on her face. You recognize her as Kain instantly.

"That was one hell of a fight. Your name was Gneotho, right? It seems it was a good idea to partner up with you. I'm looking forward to our fight now."

>As am I
>You know it doesn't have to end with us fighting.
>Other?

>You know it doesn't have to end with us fighting.
Should tell her about Brynns plan to thin out his competition to be the next Overlord. The only problem is getting her to submit to us. I don't think it will be easy like Anasael
>>
>>803109
Did Anasael's opinion of us not change at all from that?
>>
>>803124
Oh yeah totally forgot to add that.

>Anasael's Opinion of you raises to -33!
>>
>>803119
"You know it doesn't have to end with us fighting each other." Your eyes dart around for eavesdroppers before you continue. "There's something rotten about this tournament and I think Brynn's behind it." Kain's eyes narrow as you mention it.

"What do you mean?" Her voice lowers as she stares you in the eye. "You think he's rigged it for a winner?"

"Yeah... himself." Anasael chimes in. You look at her and she shrinks from your gaze. "Sorry for speaking out of turn, my lady."

If you just stop and think about it for a minute: The old coot's been the one behind the rise and fall of so many Overlords by now. He's got to be sick of being only the second fiddle.
And think about how fast this tournament was set up. I literally stepped of the last Overlord's corpse.
>>

"We have good reasons to think he's using the tournament to get rid of potential overlord candidates. Have you seen any of the losers appearing after their defeat? I haven't and I doubt the proud demon species would simply sneak away from the tournament grounds in shame. And I'm sure that the winner of the tournament won't get any healing and will be sneak attacked by Brynn. I for one trust more in demons being open about aiming to become the overlord than in somebody feigning to not be interested in the title, specially somebody who was so close to all the previous overlords"
>>
>>803230
>We should beat the shit out of Brynn, force him to give us our bodies back before we do anything else. That would be a hell of a lot easier with the both of us stomping him.
>>

>>803230
Listen, when has anyone ever played fair here? Do you honestly think that he's going to pony up on his promise after one of us has taken out all the competition?
>>
I'm going to borrow a little from everyone's speeches, but this is the roll I'm using.
>>803295
"If you just stop and think about it for a minute: The old coot's been the one behind the rise and fall of so many Overlords by now. He's got to be sick of being only the second fiddle. And think about how fast this tournament was set up. I literally stepped of the last Overlord's corpse." All three of you pause and look over at the remains of Ghraanus. A fly buzzed around his head before landing on one of his milky eyes to rest. Everyone's gazes return to you as you continue. "We have good reasons to think he's using the tournament to get rid of potential overlord candidates. Have you seen any of the losers appearing after their defeat? I haven't and I doubt the proud demon species would simply sneak away from the tournament grounds in shame. And I'm sure that the winner of the tournament won't get any healing and will be ambushed by Brynn and his goons. I, for one, trust more in demons being open about aiming to become the overlord than in somebody feigning to not be interested in the title, specially somebody who was so close to all the previous overlords"

Kain bounces her head, juggling the facts and suppositions you presented before her. She doesn't seem like much of a thinker, but people can surprise you.

"Join us, Kain. Be my blade and I'll be your shield. With our combined power, we can overthrow the tournament and take the title. Once it is securely in our hands, we'll decide amongst ourselves who is worthy of being Overlord." You, of course, are confident that you are the superior fighter. Kain mulls over your proposal for a minute silently before coming back to you with a response.

"There really isn't much change between our original partnership and this one. So I'll accept... for now. I will be Overlord." She makes her opinion known with a pointing gesture.

>I look forward to it, but if I win that battle, you will bow to me.
>I look forward to it, but if I win that battle, I will destroy you.
>I don't want it to come to that, but I will be Overlord.
>I don't want it to come to that, but I must be Overlord.
>>

You smile at her warmly. "I look forward to it, but let's put a wager on it." Kain's eyebrow raises with a spark of intrigue. "If I win, you bow to me and become my underling."

Kain giggles, but quickly stops, her cheeks flush at the sound of her own laugh. It's... kind of cute. "Erm... I accept. I'll show you how strong I truly am, then. When we both have our normal bodies and powers back." She grins at you again and nods before returned to the crowd.

"Interesting play, my lady." Anasael pipes in once again. "Kain would make a fine spearhead to your coup."

Anasael's words just barely reach you as Kain's parting words take you into a realm of introspection. "Huh? Oh yeah. Its... all going according to plan." You wave dismissively to your Cleric and return your thoughts.

Do I really want to go back to my old body? I... kind of like my new form.

Your hands follow along the outline of your buxom figure. You feel the cold steel on your fingers as well as your own warm flesh; soft to the touch, but incredibly firm and unmoving.

"Um... My lady?" Anasael chimes in again in an attempt grab your attention. "We have some time to kill until the next fight. What do you want to do?"

>What DO you want to do?

"Eh... want to go for some icecream? My treat."

>>
>>803582

Part of me wants to says you want to experience the wonders of the world of girls and girl on girl love, but for the sake of plot let's say that the idea lingers in your mind (and triggers a flag for lady overlord ending) and you decide instead to level up a little by training, maybe with Kain even Totally not a date as the other anon said. After all the rules doesn't say you have to be in your default level.

"I think some training is in order." You snap yourself out of your somber thoughts and reply to your minion. "We are all strong, but so are our opponents. If Brynn is out to get rid of us all, then we need to be even tougher. Especially if he splits us up." Anasael gulps and shivers nervously at the thought of being alone in a fight against someone else like Crack Addict.

You observe her form again, though in a different light. The way she holds herself is unsure. You watch the curves of her hips and her breasts... You feel heat in your cheeks and you think about... things... you could do with your Ana.

Your... Ana... pressed against your own bosom the heat of her skin caressing you as you comfort her...

No. Its not the time for that. You're in the middle of a conspiracy!

"A-anyway," You continue, "There's a lot for us to do. Your new task is to find us a way to train up quickly before our next match."

"Oh is that all? I think I have just the item!" She giggles and produces a dark, glass sphere fulled with swirling purples, blues and specks of white light. It looks like... a miniature galaxy. "This is my Personal Netherworld. A pocket dimension I created in my centuries of studies in the arcane arts! Ohohohohoh~!" She proudly laughs once more at her own accomplishments. Time moves at a much different pace there and was essential in my studies from then on! "What's more, it is fully staffed by my loyal servants. They aren't fighters, but they are wonderful cooks and butlers."

"And you've had this the whole time?" You ask.

"W-well... I wasn't quite sure I could trust you. Your first impression was..." She trails off, a little embarrassed.

>I'm sorry. It was just a show of power to establish dominance.
>I had to wrest control of the mission from you and it was the quickest way to do it.
>What happened, happened. Anyway, we need to start training as soon as possible.
>>
>>803739
>>I'm sorry. It was just a show of power to establish dominance.

She already knows you would fuck the shit out of anyone who gets in your path, now its time to improve her opinion about us with a sincere apology. We are all demons here, so its normal to get rough sometimes, but an apology is nice too.
>>
>>803739
>I had to wrest control of the mission from you and it was the quickest way to do it.

"Plus your plan was basically suicidal anyway. Everyone who got reincarnated by that damn wheel just isn't strong enough as a result."
>>
>>803739
>I'm sorry. It was just a show of power to establish dominance.

Plus I wanted to make you mine.
>>
>>803739
>I'm sorry. It was just a show of power to establish dominance.
I didn't really know you that well, and ... It's pretty much the only way I've ever entered into, or have entered others into alliances.

>>803764
That too.

>>803757
>>803758
>>803764
>>803778
You avert your eyes from her momentarily and speak. "I'm... sorry. It was a show of power. Your ideas were alright, but There were flaws in your plan I knew I could fix with me at the helm. No offense, but a coup is only as strong as it's leader; and you were reincarnated as probably one of the least combat-effective classes in the Netherworld. Plus I didn't know you that well and... you know... we're demons. It was the easiest way to gain a guaranteed beneficial alliance. Its not a good excuse, but you deserve an explanation." You sigh your speech. It feels like a weight has been lifted from your chest now.

You look back at her. Anasael's eyes gaze at you softly. "I... Thank you, my lady."

>Anasael's Opinion of you improves greatly to -10!

She chuckles slightly. "You know... you're right. I wasn't thinking clearly when I was planning the coup." She playfully places her hands on her hips. "But its not like I was planning to be the spearhead. I'm more of a puppermaster than a frontline fighter. That's why I tried to recruit you. You were going to be my star player and poster girl." She laughs again. "But it looks like you're just as adept at pulling strings as I am. Maybe even a little better." You laugh with her this time for a time.

She puts both hands on the glassy orb an chants a spell. The two of you are instantly transported into Anasael's Personal Netherworld. The layout reminds you of a mix between a dusty library and a negative copy of the Palace's main hall. In place of the alabaster marble, the walls and ceiling are made of obsidian and granite. Where there was gold tracing, there is silver and iron. It keeps its sense of royalty, but the design feels much cozier. Like she said, there are numerous servants rushing about the Netherworld. You see Prinnies, Maids, and other monsters as well as a few demons of various classes talking with each other.

>This is amazing!
>Its quite impressive.
>It'll do. Good job.

(all choices come with head pats)
>>
>This is amazing!

"Why did you even enter the tournament anyway? You could have just hidden here until the next Overlord died then use the confusion to leave Dimension X."

"Wooow! This is amazing, Anasael!" You place your hand on her head again. Her recoil is considerably lessened. "You really made this?! Why did you even enter the tournament anyway? You could have just hidden out here til Brynn kicked the bucket himself."

"Well... like I said, this place functions at 1/100th of normal time. An hour in the real Netherworld is just a little over 4 days in here. If I waited around for Brynn to die, I'd probably just as wrinkly as he is now." She explains as she walks you through the library area and to the central fountain in the main hall. A large, glowing sphere spins lazily atop a golden spike. "This is the portal out as well as a way to monitor the outside world from the point where we entered." Your Cleric points to a green-colored Prinny wearing a sea captain's hat who salutes you and her.

"Lady Anasael, dood! I am proud to report that everything is running at optimal levels!"

"This is Captain Barrabus. He's the head butler for my Personal Netherworld. He oversees most of the day-to-day operations needed to keep the place up and running while I'm away." She explains to you before turning to the Captain. "This is Lady Gneotho. Listen to her as if her words were mine."

"Can do, dood! Welcome aboard lady Anasael's Personal Netherworld, Tartarus!"

"Good." You respond, nodding your head. "Now then..."

>"its time I train!" (Its time to get into traits and powers!)

>"its time I train!" (Its time to get into traits and powers!)

"Let's Itemworld that cardboard armor, is CARDBOARD so we should be able to beat the Boss there."
>>
>>804022
What would be the responsibilities we'd have to fulfill once we become overlord, or to put in in a broader sense, what would be the situation we'd find ourselves in if we became overlord?
>>
>>804022
>"its time I train!" (Its time to get into traits and powers!)
And this>>804042
>>
>>804022
>"There are a few things I need to research." (Two free questions to Quest Prinny with straightforward answers. As long as they don't completely spoil the plot, of course.)

Just wondering how Brynn's reincarnation wheel worked. Did they keep any of their older skills at all, or this was a special kind of reincarnation that completely resetted everything and left them as completely new and fresh units? Because he must be quite powerful to pull such manipulation of the usual reincarnation methods.
>>
>>804035
They aren't literally made out of cardboard you know. They are actual demons in the armor. It's fucking weird.
>>
>>804042
Giving orders to idiots and many assassination attempts.
>>
A bit of clarification. Training in this case will be handled off screen. For the most part this is skill allocation.

The questions are an exclusive option from training as Gneotho is 'researching' the answers to the asked questions.
>>
>>804095
In that case consider my vote>>804046
for just training
>>
>>804095
Still, we should probably find out exactly what being an overlord entails at some point.
>>
>>804118
Eeyup.
>>
Okay... As I count things. We're tied at 2 to 2. Anyone going to break the tie?
>>
>>804196
How much time would researching take? As in, how much time would we be taking away time from training to research?
>>
>>804211

Same here. I would refrain from researching if it takes too much from our training time to get buff (and impress the ladies with our sexy and strong body)
>>
>>804211
Training will consist of placing three skill points into stats/abilities. Gneotho choose to do 'research' you will only be able to place 2 of the three points. You do not lose the point, but it is held in reserve until your next opportunity to train.
>>
>>804228
What if we ask both questions? Do we only have one skill point to allocate then?
>>
>>804244
If you choose to research, you use both questions. You will be allocating, at the least, two points.
>>
>>804251
Will we be able to research in the future, or will we always have to come back to the pocket dimension?
>>
>>804263
The option will always be available whenever you come back to the pocket dimension to train/research
>>
>>804268
Hmmm... I'll switch to train. We're going to need to have all the stats we can get if we want to win this bet.
>>
Yay consensus
>>
Next time we should bring Kain-chan to train as well And work in a strategy to make her like and WANT to be the cute girl permanently
>>
>>804306
I concur.
>>
>>804035
>>804046
>>804286
"It's time to train." You smile confidently and the Captain salutes you.

"Very well, dood! I'll gather up the toughest demons and monsters our staff have to offer. Just... if you could, please don't kill them, dood. Its hard to get everything done to standards while shorthanded, dood."

--And as the screen fades to black for a training sequence, we move to the numbers portion of our game. Here are Gneotho's stats:

HP: |||
STR: ||
DEF: |||
MOV: |
Weapon Ranks:
Sword: C
Spear: A
Axe: B
Fist: D
Staff: E
Gun: E
Bow: E
Armor: B

And her skills:
Hero's Shield: While Defending, protect allies from all attacks. (Even if they are across the map!)

You have three (3) points to spend on stats and skills. You can upgrade stats or Weapon Ranks (WR for short) (a 1:1 ratio boost) or you can spend points to upgrade skills

(1) Synch Guard: While Defending, nearby allies gain 10% damage resist.
(3) Develop Overload Skill: A unique skill that develops in powerful demons destined to become Overlords. After accumulating enough power in a battle, the skill can be unleashed, but only once per battle. Typically there are 5 types of skills, though their exact powers vary. Full Map Attacks, Final Skill Finishers, Ally Booster Skills, Over-mode Transformations, and Enemy Draining Skills. At the outset of creating an Overload Skill, you must decide on what time of skill it is.

>>
>>804368
Hmm... Decisions, decisions. Should we enhance STR and MOV, to make us more balanced, or pump it into STR and DEF to try to Minmax?
>>
I don't think we should justy pour it all into the Overload Skill. I feel like our STR could be higher, as well as Synch Guard.
>>
If you guys like STR and DEF I'll happily switch my MOV and HP votes. I agree though Overload is the next thing we should pick up
>>
>(3) Develop Overload Skill
Over-Mode transformation.
>>
>>804433
We should pick up Overlord later, but for now, I'm thinking STR and Synch Guard... Maybe DEF as well. Our opponent is offensive right?
>>
>>804446
Our High stats are HP: ||| and.
DEF: |||

We could put one point in STR: || to make it III. Then the rest in MOV since we are really slow.

There is no point in increasing stats that are already high when we are going to do solo fighting.

And we need speed if we are facing a valk.
>>
>>804466
Hmm. Good point. I'll go with that.
>>
>>804466
I'll switch my support to this then
>>
I don't see the point of upgrading stats if we have a different class down the line which will have inherently different attributes to it.
>>
>>804489
I like being a Tank do we really have to switch? Would we be able to to reallocate our points?
>>
>>804489
Because right now it would really help? We can't reincarnate yet. We don't have the machine and we haven't maxed our level yet.

No one expects a fast Armor Knight after all.
>>
>>804489
>>804506
>>804510
If and when you reincarnate you will be able to reallocate points used to up stats. However the will be considered free-floating stat points rather than generic skills points and can only be used for stat upgrades.
>>
>>804510
>not putting shoes on literally all of your characters
>>
>>804523
And stat upgrades can safe your life!

Plus we will be fighting sole next so a support ability is useless and the Overload Skill while useful would make us a direct target.

Better get it later.

We could ask Kain what was her forte in her previous life because it looks like being a cute girl with a spear as default weapon isn't exactly what she was used to before. That MK art does look really bad to me, though, I swear the cutaways never looked that bad in game.

Our Valk friend after an upgrade...
>>
Since I've gotten off topic this seems like a good place to end the session. You've met important NPCs, uncovered a conspiracy, fought a bear, became a badass, and gained a headquarters/hub world.

Think about what you'd like to see as Gneotho's, Anasael's and Kain's unique forms. I'll be doing some drawfaggotry at some point soon and some descriptions would help.
>>
>>804694
I mean what's stopping us from just wearing whatever we want, regardless of our class? It's not like we're actually in game.
I've never played a Disgaea, so I don't know if the outfits have buffs or whatever?
>>
>>804732
Once we get protagonist status we can pretty much wear whatever we want.
>>
>>804728
I'd like Gneotho patting Anasael on the head if you could.
>>
>>804742
We'll see what's in the cards.

I should mention my preferred medium is graphite, so most will be monochrome work.
>>
Well since you asked I've been thinking of Caster for Ana, except with glasses
>>
>>804747
Sexy.magical girl armor then?
>>
>>804728

Oh, they are getting unique classes and titles too? Good, that would mark the moment we stop being generic classes and becomes main characters.

Gneotho definetively has to be shapely, with a nice butt and a generous bust and emanate an aura of sexiness that makes it impossible to resist becoming a minion of her. Also, have sharp eyes with long eyelashes that makes her look like she's used to get what she wants when she wants.
>>
>>804732
Outfits change color based on the rank of the class. Character design and outfits change based on what class you are. Actual in game clothing (such as shoes, glasses, and even muscle items) are not represented on the character model except weapons.
>>
>>804757
Our original form was a man, Kain too. I was trying to look for some manly man pics for Kain been thinking Conan for Kain but I feel it's too much
>>
>>804757
>tfw Gneotho was a dude until you faggots came along

>tfw you can't give anyone shit over it since the character was entirely undefined save for male terminology being used for them

I want to reee but have no autism.

Nah Anna will end as a Witch. She meets all requirements. Is really stupid that in Disgaea is an exclusive class anyway.

Mmm...

Bookworm Witch, requires Loyal Minion tittle and mastering all Mage classes.
>>
>>804774
Find some character art and post it either for Gneotho or Kain
>>
>>804778
oh god the size what have I done.
>>
>>804774
It was a random roll dude. We just chose to embrace it.
>>
>>804780
Witch isn't an exclusive class, though.
>>
>>804791
A random roll by you fuckstains. Who are altering the natural order of things by fucking with brain chemistry of the MC to further your own disgusting fetishes.

>inb4 rumors spread of tranny Overlord
>inb4 cucked by real Protagonist characters

I'm just fucking with you.
>>
Well, boys, I've still got some time. I can answer a few questions about the worlds (Potential X and the Personal Netherworld) or anything that isn't pertinent to the plot.
>>
>>804784
A Saber Lily lookalike from Fate would be hilarious for Kain exclusive class.
>>
>>804836

Are tournaments to choose the next overlord common in Potential X or this was an unique situation?

How much older overlords lasted consider that the one who lasted ten years was considered a record?
>>
>>804836
What are the major factions in the Dark Assembly of Potential X?
>>
>>804857
>Are tournaments to choose the next overlord common in Potential X or this was an unique situation?
Its been a recent phenomenon in Potential X for the past century or so. Due, in part, to the revolving door of Overlords.

>How much older overlords lasted consider that the one who lasted ten years was considered a record?
The average reign of an Overlord in Potential X is around 3 years and 8 months. The shortest reign was 5 minutes. He was known as Yusef the Quickly Usurped. Ghraanus was particularly strong and, more importantly pragmatic ruler. Potential X actually prospered under him.
>>
>>804887
You think you'll be here same time as usual tomorrow? I ask because it's election day.
>>
>>804887

Shit, even if Gneotho becomes an overlord, the position could be lost super fast. Good thing we are working on getting relatively loyal allies
>>
>>804886
>What are the major factions in the Dark Assembly of Potential X?
Demons in the Assembly have separated by class. Magic, Monster and Martial Factions are all fierce rivals, though Monster tends to be the deciding factor on votes due to their wild card nature.

>>804900
>You think you'll be here same time as usual tomorrow? I ask because it's election day.
Mostly the deciding factor for that will be how much I need to work on projects for classes.
>>
>>804907
No ruler can rule alone, a rule set in stone for mortals and demons. Gotta have those key supporters in order to keep that power base.
>>
>>804980
I mean, Baal could probably be an overlord by himself.

Or any Disgaea protagonist after anyone plays the one of the games and even half of the post-game stuff.
>>
>>804980

Indeed. Any brute can become an overlord through sheer power, but it takes alliances and loyal vassals to stay in the power.
>>
>>806557
A leader with no followers is not a leader at all.
>>
>>806575

Yeah, just like it happened with Laharl, who always has issues with former vassals of his dad finding him unfit for an overlord. Hopefully Gneotho will fare better
>>
>>806600
And Etna outright killing him in Etna mode.
>>
So we need to claw our way to the top, force lasting alliances, spread fear of our power and be pragmatic. What else do we need to be a good and lasting Overlord?
>>
>>806842

Pull a Laharl-chan and become a popular idol, permanently this time. And sell merchandising to fund your army as a side thing to do.
>>
>>806842
propaganda, we're the strongest and cutest overlord!
>>
>>806852
>>806860
Okay cool, but I want a harem of cute girls
>>
>>806842
Be beautiful and wear clothes that look good. Turn Kain into the girl side, rig the reincarnation machine so the results are always female.

>>806872

Hence why we will rig the reincarnation machine.
>>
>>806919
How would we even go about doing that though?
>>
>>807042

If Brynn can rig his own reincarnation device to produce completely random and resetted level 1 results and make it pass as "fate", surely Gneotho can as well. Now the tough part would be to make Kain embrace being the cute girl. Maybe prove her that as a girl she will be stronger than she could ever be as a huge and buff blonde dudemon? Or I dunno, maybe a demon's personality is influenced by the type of demon they reincarnate into?
>>
>>807070
Well... the easiest way to go about doing that would be to have her fal in love with us and make it clear we wouldn't be into him being a dude. She seems like someone who would have to see marked advantages to being a girl if we want to keep her happy. Wait... we'd have use over this machine that can change your genetic makeup through magic or whatever right? How about we use the machine on others, but we find a way to implant an ingrained sense of loyalty or attraction to us? I mean it can change your body, why can't it change someone's brain? We'd have to test it on Kain, but we could say that the machine isn't working correctly, and wait until the alterations have taken effect. Should it work we'd have a means to create perfectly loyal soldiers, under the guise of giving them more power. Oh, and possibly a new waifu.
>>
>>807115

Speaking about relationships, we have yet to have an approval rating score with Kain. Gneotho got Anasael's approval from a bad -40 due the forcing her to become a vassal to a more manageable -10 (We should still work in that, wouldn't want her to pull a quick one on us for still not earning her complete loyalty) but we don't really know how much Kain trust us, at the very least she must have a positive opinion no matter how low it is to have considered teaming up with Gneotho and like how she handled the battle against tank and crack addict
>>
Oh wow new thread.
