General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics are up in the air. Suggestions are welcome. We'll be trying some new things out so I appreciate your patience as we fine tune it. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. I also want to try a more varied turn system so you and your opponent can do a few things in a row more often. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Budew)

Recently: You had a battle with Jane that you performed very well in, but ultimately lost. You got backstory on her beef with Laki. You made a Murkrow who trades things for other shiny things.

You glance around the dark forest. It’s still spooky, but not nearly as bad with another human around. Your pokemon, though, seem more confused than ever about your fit, dark, musclebound friend and her slurring speech.

“Shoft hams!” She puts an arm around you, pushing the side of your face into her chest. “What are yoooooouuuu doing all the way out here?” Her other hand plays your your hair.

Oh jeez oh man! Oh jeez some more.

I know lewds are cool and all but that probably isn't very important right know

Unless we ask about what went down with that shit with the fans and the quitting
>>
>>794884
I'm not entirely sure what it means that's why I asked gobble.

If it's what went down with Jane I'm also fine with it.

Maybe start with a silly question to test the waters and then move on to more serious stuff

Maybe, but I'd rather not do it at all. We need to find Valerie.
>>
>>794916
Yeah, we just learned a bit about her past with Jane and it'd be fresh in our mind. Plus given she's drunk after losing to Jane its not hard to assume that it might be part of the problem.

>>794926
But yeah, start off with other stuff first (like where she last saw Valerie) before getting to that. Don't want her getting mad and storming off or anything like that.

You gulp. Both from Laki and how close you are to the ledge.

“Come on.” You lean away from the ledge and she just sort of follows your lead. “Where did you last see Valerie?”

Laki laughs. “I think.” She hiccups. “I think she got a bit scared.”

You don’t know where exactly she’s walking you, but you keep pace just to avoid being dragged. “Scared of what? She she okay?”

Laki laughs. “She’s fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. You mainlanders. These woods are like, the shafest place there ish.” Laki tussles up your hair then points. “She’s somewhere that way. I think.”

It didn’t feel so safe when that Pokemon attacked, but you guess it turned out okay. You can’t see her face that well in the dark, but even you can tell she’s completely wasted. It occurs to you that you can probably ask her anything right about now.

“What’s your favorite colour?”

“Hmmmm.” She looks at you as you both stumble forward. “Gold.”

She seems receptive. What else are you going to ask?

“So, umm. How come you got drunk?”

“Drunk?” She gives you a funny look. “I’m not...ah yesh I am. You got me. You’re gooood.” She pokes your chest. “Shame reason why anyone does. It’s better than being shober.”

“Is it because of what happened between you and Jane?”

Laki kicks a rock. “Yeah! I thought I’d shut her up! She’s always on my case and I don’t even know why!”

“Well, you two do have a history.” You look back briefly to make sure your Pokemon are following. They’re glued to your ankles.

Laki yanks you back. “What hishtory? She’s been getting in my face since we met at the lab.”

Laki doesn’t recognize Jane? That could explain a lot. Or maybe Jane made it up. Or something else. You decide to move to another subject though and ask her thoughts on everyone else.

“Hm? Wellllll... Keira is nice. Most priestesses are weird, but friendly weird isn’t so bad. Kinda high energy though. That Polu is okay too I guess. Laid back. Doesn’t get in your face. A little obsessed with surfing but I can understand that.” She keeps playing with your hair. “Hana is too damn shy. And strong! It’s not fair!” She burps. “Wait. That’s mean. I take it back that’s super mean.” Laki spins you around. “I’m not a bad person. You don’t think I’m a bad person, right?”

“N-no. I don’t think that.”

Laki looks relieved. “Good. Becaushe Hana didn’t deserve any of what happened to her. I forgot why she was stronk.”

You guess Laki is a bit all over the place. “What about-”

“Valerie is scho damn hot!” Laki says. “Who has skin that smooth? Huh?” She grabs your hands. “Beside you. What do mainlanders do all day? Bathe in moisturizer?”

You’re face to face with her again. You gulp. “Do you have a boyfriend?”

Her face turns sour. “Why? You makin’ fun of me? I could get a boyfriend if I wanted! I just don’t want to!” She goes back to dragging you around. “Guys used to chase after me all the time, back before... before the games.” She harrumphs, then mumbles something about her confidence in making any potential boyfriend forget about those stupid games while making what you assume is some sort of weird salt shaker gesture. Must be a local cultural thing. It’s mesmerizing, though.

“What do you think about me?”

She stops walking. Her eyes change from being distant to smugly looking down at you like prey. “Now I get it. You blond little-”

CRACK!

Something splits a boulder nearby with an attack. You and your Pokemon nearly jump out of your skin. Laki grunts and squints her eyes at it.

Wait, that’s a Pokemon! You’re pretty sure you know that one, too.

“Hi.” You slowly and carefully approach.

It looks over to you and takes on a fighting stance.

“Woah! We don’t want any trouble.” You throw up your hands. It hesitates.

A man walks out of the shadows. “It’s okay, Golurk. I believe them.” He walks over to you and looks you and Laki up and down. “What are you two doing out here so late?”

Laki keeps as straight a face as she can. "Just going for a walk!"

He looks at both of you. You can see he's paying attention to how tussled the hair is on both of your heads and sloppy Laki's clothes are right now. “I...see.”

“I’m John,” you offer your hand to shake. The man looks at it for a second before shaking it. “And this is Laki.”

“An odd pair.” He remarks. “I am Lepo. And this is Golurk. Tell me, have you seen anything suspicious in these woods?”

“Like a crazy old man and his Ghost Pokemon cracking boulders in the middle of the night?”” Laki says. She doesn’t sound like she’s trying to be rude, just funny. But she’s not doing so well.

“Yes.” He replies flatly. “I’ve been told there have been some...disturbances. Pokemon that don’t belong here, upsetting the balance of the area.” He squints at you. “What’s on your face?”

He walks you over to the path as you talk. There are street lamps here again.

You lift your arm the way Keira showed you. “My friend Keira said this would protect me. She’s a priestess.”

Laki bursts into a fit of giggling. The man just looks at you for a moment. “That,” his stoic face contorts just a little, “makes sense, in it’s own unique way. This is very typical of young Keira, I’ve been told.”

“I didn’t even notice that before without the light.” Laki is cracking up. “That’s great!”

You smile on the outside, but on the inside you’re not so sure anymore. “I don’t get it.”

“There are many meowth in these woods.” He tells you. “Soon it will be time for the Festival of Giving.”

“Festival of Giving?”

He looks slightly annoyed that you have to ask. “Yes. Small children come and give gifts to the Meowth. They paint their faces and make a gesture to assure them that they understand them have good intentions.”

“So it’s not a magical-”

He glares at you.

“Nevermind.” You fidget. He’s scary. “Sir.”

He sighs. “My wife tells me I am not very ‘warm’ to strangers. Forgive me. It has been a frustrating night. I am no closer to understanding what is happening than when I started. Perhaps rest will clear my head.” He gives a brief bow before starting to walk away with his Golurk.

“Wait! Have you seen a girl our age out here? She’s blonde, this tall, has a Lillipup and a purse.”

“Yes. Down that way. She seemed preoccupied so I did not disturb her.”

This makes our new murkrow friend even cooler. He saw we were representing the East Side meowths in his West Side hood, and even though he was suspicious at first, he saw the value of putting aside our differences for the greater good and the acquisition of shiny trinkets.

It's a tale as old as time. It's a poetic and powerfully beautiful story about trust in the face of prejudice. We can all relate to judging books by their covers sometimes, but we can also relate to just wanting to steal a shiny bauble from some nerd we meet on the road. We can learn a lot from that shifty crow. Maybe there's a little murkrow un all of us.

“Good luck!” You wave. That guy seems alright. You and Laki start walking in the direction he pointed.

Laki picks up Bella and plays with her while you walk. She throws her up a few times and you try not to act nervous about it.

You yawn. It’s getting late and it’s been a long day.

“Laki? Laki?” You hear Valerie call out. “Sorry if I panicked. I thought about it and if it’s just a one time thing like you said, and nobody knows about it, then I guess a little experimenting couldn’t-” She freezes. “Oh. Herb. Hello.”

“Hi.” You smile and blink.

She plays with her hair and avoids eye contact.

Laki grins from ear to ear as she puts her arms around both of you. “Let’sh go back.”

The three of you and your Pokemon head back to the Pokemon center. It’s a pretty long walk, but you guess everyone is too tired to talk much.

“You know what a schtrong person does?” Laki lectures nobody in particular. “They know what they want, and they go for it!” Her hand grabs your chest for some reason. That tickles.

Valerie squeaks, but you can’t see why with Laki in between you both.

“What were you talking about before?”

“Uhhm. Nothing. Don’t worry about it.” Her voice is high pitched. She must be yawning. You yawn too. Laki removes herself from the two of you as you enter the Pokemon center. They have bunks here that trainers can use. There are little privacy curtains for each one, but you can still talk through them.

“I bet I can guess.” She must be talking about a contest routine. She was talking about that earlier. “Don’t worry. I don’t want to steal your thunder. We can work together.”

Laki and Valerie look at you. Valerie is shocked and Laki looks impressed. Valerie makes a motion to keep your voice down. Everyone is sleeping and you don’t want to wake them up. Good call.

“I’m just saying. We can share. I have a lot of good ideas for moves and accessories and costumes.”

Laki puts a hand on her hip while Valerie sits there, stunned at your generous offer to help. “Wow, Soft hands. You are a secret badass afterall, aren’t you?” She grins. “And you go after what you want, huh?”

“I can’t believe I’m hearing this.” Valerie finally says. “I’ve never...not with a boy, or a girl...I just, do you know what you’re proposing? I’ve thought about something like that, sure, but not for my first time. Herb, I had no idea you were so forward.”

Laki sits back on her bed with a knowing smile. “Oh, this is just delicious.”

Something is bugging you about her reaction. It’s not that big of a deal, is it? Is she talking about something else. Oh! You idiot! She was probably talking about cooking! Contest people are all about pokemon nutrition like poffins. Don’t look dumb. Just pretend that you were talking about that the whole time, too. “I don’t want to intrude. It’s just that I have a lot of experience with this sort of thing. Lots of oils that could help, too.”

“Please!” Valerie looks worried. “Keep your voice down. I’m as open as the next girl but people could hear us!”

Laki is holding back her laughter.

“Sorry.” You lower your voice. “If you’re nervous, I could just watch for now and offer pointers. It’s all about the timing.” Poffins can get really finicky if heated too long or not long enough. “Don’t worry. I won’t just leave you to clean everything up after. I know how sticky it can get.”

“I’ve gotta shay, he sounds really considerate. You couldn’t ask for a better teacher.” Laki gives two quick raises of her eyebrow to Valerie. You ignore it. It’s probably just Laki still being drunk and weird. “I know” she hiccups “I know it shounds crazy, but isn’t a journey all about doing new things and exploring? That’s the crap they were telling me, anyway.”

Valerie holds a hand to her chest.“I suppose. It just lacks an element of romance, though, doesn’t it? No offense.”

“Romance? Are you going for a theme with a lot of hearts? I know a great way to draw on poffins with this quick and easy homemade icing.”

Valerie’s face goes blank. She blinks. “What.”

“Icing. For the poffins.” You guys are still talking about that, right?”

“Laki...” Valerie turns to the older girl. Laki is already passed out in her little bunk, muttering something about a golden combo. “Excuse me. I need to die now.” Valerie quickly closes her bunk so you can’t see her anymore.

There's a long silence. You don't know what you did.

“Herb?”

“Yes?”

“...Nevermind.” Her voice is flat and empty. “Go to sleep.”

You hope you didn’t offend her. You decide to just keep your mouth shut and catch some shut-eye before tomorrow’s meeting with the professor. You hear Hana apologize as she stubs something when rushing to the bathroom before you fall asleep.

You wake up the next day surprisingly early. There’s some time before your meeting.

You do your best to enjoy the breakfast they serve, then grab a quick shower. You’re careful to clean Mace, but Gobble and Bella seem fine on their own. Bella likes the water and Gobble only tries eating the soap once before learning his lesson.

You give a quick good morning to the girls as pull up with some free reading material. Laki is nursing a coffee and looks terrible. Valerie has her head buried in a paper. Hana looks tired but very happy.

You read up a bit about the area. There’s also a trainer’s tips section that refreshes you on a few things. Nothing huge, but you never know when the smallest amount of information could be helpful. These little things add up. You get some more background information about Murkrows and Meowths. There's a rivalry there. They fight over shiny objects. Murkrow aren't usually on this island at all. They do share other islands, though.

You leave out the door to the professor’s. Keira volunteers to come with you. The two of you arrive just in time to see the professor running an experiment. “Hello there!”

Professor Palm asks you to place Mace in a small tube. “It’s a safety precaution. It’s necessary to find out what’s going on.”

Mace looks unsure about all of this.

“He says he’s fine, and that he doesn’t need to be checked out.” Keira tells you. “He can prove it with a battle.”

“Alright Mace. Just relax. This is a perfectly normal procedure. We’re just going to seal the tube, and increase the pressure. It shouldn’t feel any more uncomfortable than a slight pressing sensation like this.” He pushes down on Mace firmly but gently. “Then we’ll be able to read the exact output.”

Mace looks to you. “I promise, the professor just wants to help. You don’t get hurt.” Bella and Gobble watch as you assure Mace. You lean close in the hopes that only Mace hears this next part. “I promise I’ll make you fried noodles after.”

Mace hesitates for a moment, but trusts you and waddles in. The tube closes.

“Now, just wait a moment and...there.” Professor Palm is watching a readout. You can see Mace inside the tube look around as the air pressurizes around him. He looks startled, but fine. “Mace, please give us a small demonstration.”

Mace looks uncomfortable, but you urge him on with a gesture. He fires off a quick burst of energy and knocks himself backwards before quickly getting back up.

“Interesting. How do you feel?”

Mace makes a pose. He feels great.

The professor messes with settings and dials and has Mace do it a few more times to varying degrees.

“Yes, quite interesting.” He mutters to himself. “Oh, I’m sorry. We’ll get Mace out of there and I’ll explain exactly what’s going on.” He goes to turn the knob to depressurize the tube, but stops. Gobble bit it right off.

You look to the readout on the screen. The pressure is increasing quickly.

“Emergency shutdown!” The professor yells as he tries to get the digital display to respond. It seems frozen. “Damned installers. I knew they didn’t have any idea what they were doing..” He whacks the side of it.

You try to work the dial without the knob. It’s slippery and nearly impossible to get a grip on. Precious seconds go by while you fiddle with it.

Keira pitifully hits the glass with her hands, doing nothing. The professor is impatiently mashing buttons on the console. “Don’t panic. He’s a rock type and used to high pressures. We have time to figure this out.” He assures you and himself

Mace thumps against the glass.

“No! Don’t break that glass!” The professor yells.

You use the bottom of your shirt to grip the dial and twist. You have to really put everything into it, but it works.

“Good! Good. Steady now. Not too fast.” He carefully instructs. “Yes. Just. Like. That.” You all watch the number in the readout stabilize and start coming down. “Perfect. We’ll let that come down for a few minutes, then open it up.”

There’s a huge sigh of relief. The pressure on everyone in the room goes down with the pressure in the tube. You walk over to the tube. Mace is looking up at you. You’ve got some explaining to do.

[That’s it for now. We’ll pick it up early tomorrow. Sorry about the late start/slow speed. It’ll actually be early tomorrow and not Gobbletime(tm). Really!]

Laki has been confirmed for best girl.
>>
>>796963

>>
>>796963
Eh, this endeared me more to Valerie than Laki. Laki's coming off as sort of a desperate mess these last few threads, especially when we take her past into consideration.

Not that she's not a good character, because she is one. But getting plastered and trying to feel up and proposition anyone around - including teenagers, when she is physically an adult - is pretty skeevy. It's realistic for her situation, and it's good for speculative lewds, but it's far from a good character trait.

She needs to get her shit together before she's anywhere near "best girl" material. Being good friends, John and the rest of the crew will probably help her out with that, but that's a process.
>>
>>797582
I can't think of a better person to get her on track than Herb. It'll be interesting to see.
>>
>>797582
>Laki is coming off as a sort of desperate mess

That's what makes her such good fun.

She has issues, which makes her interesting and relateable.

Helping her work through them ought to make for an interesting sub-plot, no matter if it leads to romance or not.
>>
>>797634
>>797636
Oh, I agree completely with both of you guys. I like Laki a lot. I just don't see her as good dating material. I see her as an interesting character who can grow into a good friend as long as John and the others help her along.

The best part of >>796368 and >>796393 is that Laki conked out before realizing that we were talking about something entirely different.

>>

but she isn't an adult
she's at most 17 and still underage which is why she was trying to hide her drunkness from Lepo
>>
>>798133
Nah, Laki's in her twenties.
>>
>>798133
she can buy alcohol legally, and Gobble has said the drinking age is 18 for most islands

he's also said she's a couple years older than the rest of the cast, and John is 15/16

I'd put her at 19 or 20, but we don't really have exact numbers
>>
>>798155
a couple years older than Herb at 15 (which is what I see him has) would make her 17 and it was never said she acquired the alcohol legally and with the laid backness of the islanders in general I don't think it'd be very hard for her to get some without an ID.
Also her whole general demeanor comes off as a teenager that thinks they are already an adult and has o'so many problems that these young kids would never understand. At least to me it does.
So until we get an official age for everyone I'll stick with seeing her as 17.
>>
>>798183
I imagine them as 16 and 18, but maybe that's because I personally was nowhere near ready to start wandering the countryside at 15.

The tube’s pressure finally comes down enough to open it up. After a check checkover, you’re assured he’s fine. His hearing might be a bit off for the day, but that should wear off quickly.

Professor Palm looks furious. “I knew it.” He holds up wiring in the back. “They didn’t properly secure the safety disengagement unit.” He drops the cord. “I bet if I looked into it, those electricians wouldn’t even have proper certification. Nobody in this region takes these things seriously.” Strong words, coming from a native. “At least we have the recorded information. I can confirm exactly what’s going on.”

You reach out to pet Mace. He accepts it, but doesn’t lean into it. Gobble watches without changing his face. Bella is less reserved, and looks visibly confused. You promised he wouldn’t be hurt.

“I made a mistake. I’m sorry.”

He doesn’t seem entirely won over, but you can tell your simple sincerity means a lot. He’s still not happy with how things happened. The others don’t seem to blame you. You can see a slight realization in Bella’s eyes. From the battle with Jane to this; you’re not perfect. It seems vain and weird, but knowing that she thought of you as her perfect protector and role model and knowing she’ll never think that again, a part of you hurts. This must be how parents feel when their kids grow up.

Keira puts a hand on your shoulder and smiles. Despite the large gap in culture and not even being able to see her face, you still feel like she understands. She isn’t judging either. That picks you right back up

John, Mace. You have my sincere apologies. I’m going to call up the corporation and get them to send out someone from the mainland instead to look over everything.” The professor sliders his screen over. “Now, here are the readings.” He points to charts and things you can only vaguely follow. You were a decent student, but most of this is over your head. You do catch a few things here and there, though. He explains that Mace will continue to build up more energy. It’s fine for now, but he needs either evolve, or you need to get an item to contain it.

“What about training him to release it?” You explain about your match with Jane and how Mace was able to dodge using the energy release to thrust away.

The professor looks at you, then strokes his chin. “Well, a physical therapy approach might be possible, but I don’t think I’d feel comfortable recommending anything that hasn’t been clinically tested. I recommend you and Mace look into evolving.”

>Maybe he’s right, Mace. You should reconsider evolving

Get an item to contain it and regulate it at first and we will slowly ween him off of it to train use of it

>Thanks, but you want to try training him to use it

I'm sure with proper training, this can be used to excellent effect, but at the same time there's no sense in not procuring a restraint for if it doesn't pan out.

I support this.
We can practice after we know Mace can handle smaller amounts of power. And we can start from 0% energy

I wanna try the boost training, but it never hurts to have a fallback plan. Maybe we can use an everstone like it's a set of weighted clothes in some shitty anime.

You look to Mace. He doesn’t want to evolve. You told him you were okay with that.

“Thanks, Professor. But we want to try training to use it.” He raises a hand to talk, but you know what he’s going to say and keep going. “But while we’re learning, where can we get an item to help hold back the energy?”

“Well, I suppose you could get a modified Macho Brace. Or a Machoke’s Belt if you can find one. It might be pricey, though.”

“You can always get anything at the Take islands.”

The professor looks uncomfortable at Keira’s suggestion. “Yes. I suppose. If you’re looking for second hand items that would be the place to go.” He turns to you. “I’ll ask around for more legitimate sources. In the meantime, I recommend learning Explosion and using it whenever things become a little too hard to control. The local Pokemart may have a few TMs that could make things easier. It may be costly, though.” He thinks. “I’ve heard the local gyms are now offering payouts to those that beat them. They’re trying to encourage a more mainland style training culture.

You pat your pockets. You don’t have a lot on you.

Keira peers over. “What about those mushrooms from before?”

“Oh right!” You remember Valerie and Laki sold them for you. “I almost forgot about that.”

You and Keira head back to the Pokemon center. Valerie is teaching her Lillipup a little dance routine. She stops when she sees you.

“Herb.” She sounds weird. “How was your visit to the professor? You explain what happened. Her awkwardness goes away for now. “That’s dreadful! Are you alright, Mace?”

Mace does an adamant little pose.

You ask about the mushroom money.

“Oh! Oh my. I’m sorry, Herb. It completely slipped my mind. Laki asked me to give you your share.” She thinks. “I don’t quite remember how much it was.” She hands you a colossal wad of bills like it’s nothing. You know this has to be way more than possible. It seems like no big deal at all to her.

“There’s no way it’s that much.” You take a small amount.

Valerie smiles and laughs. “I’m afraid father is right. I suppose I’m not so great with money after all. Thank you for being honest.”

“I wouldn't want to take advantage of you."

Her mouth keeps smiling but her eyes do not. “I just don’t get you, Herb. I really don’t.”

You look at her, confused. “Did I do something wrong?”

She just sighs and pats you on the shoulder as she walks away. “No. No you didn’t. You’re very sweet. Confusing, but sweet.”

Does she mean that, or is that some sort of joke about poffins? You decide to let it go for now. You look at the money. You could maybe get the TM for Explosion, but you’d be broke again. You could maybe afford a Macho Brace, but you have no idea what sort of modifications it would need. You’re not even sure if this town has a lot of stuff. The thing you were reading this morning told you that Gwo Boss has everything the mainland has. But Keira tells you that Taki has everything for a price, too. Mostly second hand items, though.

“Alright. First thing we’re going to do is get a Macho Brace.”

Mace nods. He’s keeping a good attitude.

“Then after that, let’s go check out that gym.”

Keira takes out her Tropius and hops on. “Sounds fun! Let’s go!”

She trots alongside as you walk there. She hands Gobble a banana that he’s reaching for as you travel. The two of you find a local accessory store and get the Macho Brace.

You secure it to Mace. “How does that feel?”

He waddles along. His speed is down a lot.

“He says he can get used to it.” Keira tells you.

Mace nods and puts on a tough facade.

Bella has been watching you closely lately. It’s like she sees you in a whole new light. Not a bad one, just different. You pat Mace on the head.

“First thing’s first. Let’s get some food in everyone.”

You make sure to get Mace some extra noodles while he adjusts to his Macho Brace. He’s getting a little better with it. Gobble is getting a healthy appetite. Bella doesn’t seem to need much at all, but she’s growing and you want to make sure she’s not missing anything essential. You and Keira enjoy some too. Nincada is fine with the very small amount Keira gives it.

With everyone fed and happy, it’s time to check out the gym. You find it without much trouble. Before you go in though, a trainer stops you. He looks like a mainlander, too.

“Woah. Slow down there. You’re a new trainer, right?”

“Yeah! I haven’t been to a gym yet.”

He stays in your way. “And you’re coming to this gym? Sorry buddy. I don’t think you’re ready. You and your girlfriend should go get some more experience, or you’re in for a shock.

“That’s not fair. Herb’s battled before. He’s really good!” Keira stands up for you.

“Is that so? Maybe you want to battle me before taking on the Electric Storm.”

>Sure. You’ll battle him
>You’re just here to watch
>That’s okay. You’ll take on the gym and see how it goes.

Are you baiting, or just ignorant?

There are people who do successfully recover from common forms of mental illness, even if the success rate is much lower than the proponents of mental care would have you think.

Saying that it's a lost cause is ridiculously premature when we've barely even had contact with her. You're making a dramatic judgment based on sweeping assumptions about the mental health of somebody we know very little about.

“Sure. I’ll battle you.”

He brightens up a bit. “Alright! Just be warned though, I’m an expert when it comes to electric types.”

He only looks a little older than you, but maybe that’s true. He seems really confident.

“So this gym is really tough, huh?”

“You bet! That’s why I’m the official assistant!” He glances over to Keira. “So what’s all that about. Is today a holiday or something?”

She gives him a funny look. “How long have you been here?”

“All summer.”

“And you haven’t met anyone like me?” She sounds genuinely surprised.

He shrugs.

“What kind of Pokemon does the gym leader have?”

He turns back to you. “I’ll tell you all about it, if you beat me! Let’s do a double battle with two Pokemon per side.”

“And what if you win?”

I mean, okay, but the fact that you can't recognize the signs of someone who has a problem doesn't mean I've got issues, friend.

>>800172
Oh, absolutely. I'm not saying she's definitely going to be portrayed that way in the future. It's just what makes the most sense given what we've seen of her so far, even setting this most recent event aside.

Gobble isn't one to shy away from things like this, so I have no trouble believing that he'd make one of the main characters an alcoholic.

Laki's showing a lot of signs of that sort of behavior, and it's not like Gobble would outright state it immediately, so there's a good chance that's what this is hinting at.

I like her too. But it's possible to like her without pretending she doesn't have a problem. The fact that people have been pointing out more of Laki's flaws than the other girls' - aside from Jane - is because so far she seems to genuinely have the most out of any of them. This is neither a bad nor a good thing. It just is. Gobble writes good characters, and she is one. Good does not equal flawless.

Not everything is about your waifu wars. For all we know, Gobble could end up with her not being an alcoholic at all. Just because I think it would make the most sense given what we've seen doesn't mean it will happen.

Just enjoy the ride and quit acting persecuted because people are pointing out flaws about the fictional girl you'd most like to have our fictional boy bump uglies with.
>>
>>800259
The two biggest whiners are the guys saying we shouldn't talk to her because they were in relationships with alcoholics before.

>>800241
“I hope you’re good at fighting. I want some beer money.”
Literally the third thing she said to the bird

she's pretty obviously written to be very bad with losing and tries to take away her feelings by drinking.
>>
>>800204
Laki has extreme self esteem issues because she choked in the settings equivalent of the Olympic games high jump. If you knew how much that means to Athletes you could forgive her a little bit of drinking.
>>800237
Her flaws are some of the reason why I like her. And we don't know if she is an alcoholic either. We know she's gotten drunk all of one time. Just because you use the phrase 'beer money' doesn't mean your an alchoholic. And your an idiot if you think that underage kids aren't having sex.

>>

I'm pretty sure no one said we shouldn't talk to her, and if they did, then they're idiots too.

The bottom line of my post was for people to quit worrying about others' preferences in fictional women and stop getting so defensive when people point out interesting and (seemingly) apparent character flaws with the cast members.

No one needs to white knight for these girls. They're not real. Someone pointing out a flaw in one of them is not a personal attack against you or your tastes.

“Sure, but how about these instead?” You show him your berries.

“Huh. Yeah. Okay. That works for me.”

He walks a good distance away. There’s an open compacted sand parking lot here without any vehicles at the moment. The weather is pretty normal. A few clouds float way high up and the slight breeze from the ocean keeps it from being too hot.

Keira adjusts her clearly braless tube top after she climbs up a concrete wall off to the side. She looks up “Go Herb!” Even with clothes, she’s still a bit distracting. You look to your opponent and you lock eyes. You both have a look of understanding. Yup. She’s not wearing a a bra. A lot gets by you, but not when it comes to clothes.

You both put that aside and get ready to battle. He stops for a second and stands up straight though. “Wait. I’ll throw out first, since you have your Pokemon out and watching.” He gestures to the three Pokemon standing around your feet.

“Go, Voltorb! Go Helioptile!” He throws out the two Pokemon and grins. “I hope you two are hungry for berries!”

Really depends on what Jane said to her, we don't have the full story, and doubt we'll get it from either character. Jane said that Laki ran off after she lost, which is the extent of our knowledge of the battle.

I don't think Jane would've talked much in a fight with the person she hates the most. She wants to be the best, and wouldn't use shitty tactics like pissing off her opponent. Jane cares about winning "correctly" too much
>>

I don't know, she hates us pretty highly (accusing us of turning everyone against her, which includes Laki) and was more than willing to call us losers, that we don't care about our Pokemon, us using underhanded tactics, us not training, us being unworthy, etc. etc.

Presumably a lot of the same went on.

Thank you for clearing that up.
>>
So Bella crits and GObble FPs someone hard.
>>
>>800743
Hopefully helioptile as it's part normal
>>
>>800747
A solid FP on Helioptile might be the first 1hko in the two quest so far.

>>
>>800753
According to a calculator, we can 1HKO a Helioptile up to 11 levels higher than us.
>>
>>800774
While normally I would
>calculators for the quest
That is a pretty big gap of levels we could fuck up.
>>
>>800780
Yeah, too many unknowns to say for sure. Guaranteed to hurt, though.
>>
>>800774
Well we don't really use stats and level are kind of weird in this quest
>>
>>800844
We use stats, they are just on a scale instead of exact numbers I think.
>>
You both yell out your attacks at the same time. This keeps either of you from hearing the other. “Gobble, Focus Punch. Bella, you cover him, okay?”

Helioptile starts running forward. Bella keeps herself between it and Gobble.

“They’re planning something! “Voltorb! Use Light Screen! Helioptile, hit it with Thunderbolt!”

Voltorb sends up a Light Screen nearly instantly. That thing is fast!

Bella manages to get in the way and take the Thunderbolt. She’s sent skidding back near Gobble.

Gobble opens his eyes. He charges forward and punches Heloptile. The electric Pokemon goes flying back and almost hits the other trainer.

“Helioptile!”

It’s eyes spin as it lays against the wall.

You look to Bella. She took a nasty hit, but thanks to her typing and good Special Defense, she’s okay. The force of knocking her back was worse than the actual damage. You meant for her to use a move to stop it, but she did a good job either way.

“Good job, guys!”

“Huh. You’re stronger than you look, I’ll give you that. But you’re in trouble. There’s no way either of you will be able to lay a hand on Voltorb. He’s just too fast! Show them, Voltorb!”

The ball pokemon starts zooming around the battle area. Gobble is having a hard time keeping his eyes on him. It zooms right by before he can react and then comes around for another pass. Bella is still getting up.

Definitely. We've got a solid team going right now. Also, I'm glad we've stuck to just those three for the time being. Gobble is a pretty chill little guy, but Mace and Bella definitely need some special treatment in order to get them to reach their full potential, and I think having too many pokemon on our team this early could take away some of that.

The murkrow we meet earlier will round out our teams weakness to psychic types and fuck over fighting types a bit more

This ought to be interesting.
>>
So what is the worst possible move? I feel like something worse than Explosion could happen, but I can't remember what.

>>800976
Murkrow is our "black market" contact. We trade with him.

Good ideas. Murkrow is awesome, and I could see a ghost being good for the team, especially to cover Gobble's weakness.

That said, who knows what we'll find? Limiting ourselves to just six seems like a good idea, though. One of the best things about this quest has been how much more fleshed out and individual our pokemon feel this time around, and I think sticking with just six will allow that to continue.
>>
>>801004
Well Bella is farther away than Gobble, Also thinking about it, a 1 on metronome is super bad. Not only did we get a 1 on our attack, but on the move we got as well. So he might just explode and touch nothing.

“Metronome!”

Gobble nods and waves his fingers. He summons up the power of any and all moves. He looks deep within himself and grabs a move out of thin air. You watch as he runs forward with a High Jump Kick!

He flies through the air with all the grace of a startled Tangula whose tentacles all wanted to go in a different direction. He flaps and flails as he crashes onto the ground.

Voltorb zooms by and zaps him with an Electroball while he’s down. It’s powerful move but the execution is sloppy. Gobble is very slowly trying to get to his feet. Voltorb zooms by him with a mocking noise and turns towards Bella

Bella looks ready to fight!

“Charge Beam!”

Voltorb hits Bella with a strong electrical attack. She’s pushed back again but not off of her feet. She breathes heavily. Voltorb looks charged up now, and even more dangerous.

You look to Mace. Mace is giving all of his attention to Voltorb. He looks deep in though. You don’t have time to get into that, though.

With that ball going that fast and not weighing very much, a few well placed bumps could send it flying. “Bella! Use Pin Missile! Lay them down directly in it’s path!”

Bella nods and fires! It goes off like a machine gun. You think one or two may have hit him, but nothing got where you wanted it to.

Voltorb comes around again. It’s trainer yells “Alright! Let’s finish them off!”

Gobble is up and ready. He doesn’t appreciate that.

Alright! You’ll only get one more shot at this. You need to make it count. You look to Gobble, first. He might be able to get a move off while Voltorb is coming around.

“Gobble! Focus punch! Hurry!”

Gobble concentrates again. Every millisecond feels like agony as you watch the ball coming around again.

“Swift!”

The Voltorb speeds by. It’ it’s wake it unleashes slower by unerring stars.

But it’s not fast enough. Gobble’s fist comes down on the ground as the Voltorb is doing it’s pass. You have to move your feet to stay up. Keira falls off the wall she’s sitting on and into a bush.

And Voltorb bounces way out of control. He hit’s the underside of an overhanging tree branch. Then the ground. Then the cement wall. Then the side of of the nearby building. Then the wall again. Then the ground again.

Gobble watches in satisfaction as the Swift hits him. He goes down with a content smile.

Bella is hit too, but she stays up. Voltorb is stunned and coming to a very confused, spinning stop. He’s still in the fight, though. Whatever move Bella uses, you feel like it will have at least some small impact on her development.

“Voltorb, quick! Finish it!” Voltorb is still shaking it off and figuring out exactly what happened. It traveled a mile in thirty feet.

“Bella! Mega Drain!”

Bella leans forward to let her buds aim. She pulls an incredible amount of energy out of the Voltorb. She’s like a vampire, draining it of everything it has. When she’s done, Voltorb is a tired, exhausted husk.

“Voltorb!” The other trainer yells out. He runs to his Pokemon, then picks it up. “Voltorb. I guess we won’t have to worry about using Self-Destruct for a while, huh?”

Voltorb’s eyes smile.

Keira runs out of the bushes. “Good job, Bella!”

Bella looks ecstatic. You run over, too, and put her and tell her what a great battle that was. You go to Gobble and do the same. He’s conscious, just in no condition to fight.

Keira gives you a quick hug, then a high five. “That’s how it’s done, right?”

You nod. She gives Bella and Gobble one, too. Bella is confused by the pat on her buds and suspicious of the hug Keira gave you. Gobble gives a slick ‘down-low’ rebound before slumping back to his resting position. Bella waddles over and snuggles her big protector.

The trainer comes up. “A bet’s a bet. I’ll tell you whatever you want to know.”

He gives you a general overview. It looks like a normal arena, but there are a few inches of water that the Pokemon stand in. There’s a water cannon that fires at the nearest target and soaks them.

“A lot of trainers come in and think because they have ground types that’s all they need. But the water cannon acts like the move, Soak.”

You nod along and make a mental note to look that move up after. You guess by the context at what it does, though.

You ask about any particular Pokemon or strategies to watch out for. He tells you that he typically uses three or four and does double battles, but will accommodate challengers if they’re polite. He changes up the Pokemon he uses, except for one in particular.

“You want to watch out for Heliolisk.” He tells you. “He baits people into attacking, then jumps and uses Electrify. They fry themselves. But a lot of his Pokemon have Volt Absorb, too. There’s some really advanced stuff going on here. He usually does a double battle. If you don’t know a lot about these things, it can really mess you up.”

That’s good to know. There’s a lot to keep in mind with a setup like that.

“Is there anything I can do about the water cannon?”

“Don’t get hit by it.” He jokes. “But I guess you could try blocking it or hitting it with an attack.”

“Is that okay? Breaking it like that?””

“Nah. It sucks. Who do you think fixes things around here?” He points to himself. “But a gym leader doesn’t put anything in his arena that he isn’t willing to see get wrecked. It’s part of the job.”

“Hey, can’t I ask you something else? How did Voltorb get so fast?”

“That speed is our pride!” He grins and throws up a flexed arm. “But it wasn’t easy. Voltorb’s are naturally fast, but we took it to the next level. How did we do it? Well, you ever see those toy balls with the Buizels? They do that by having a motor inside that spins. We spent so much time training his outer speed, but the extra stuff comes from inside. Voltorb here learned to spin his energy on the inside. The price is maneuverability, though.”

You absorb the information. “Thanks. I’m going to go heal up and do some training.”

“Just don’t lose. I’ll look terrible.”

[That’s it for today, folks. Thanks for coming. I’ll answer any questions that I see while the thread is up. Not sure when I can run next. Work is going to be crazy tomorrow and I won’t know if that will spill over to the rest of the week or not until get into it.]

Good luck with work!
>>
>>801940
Thanks for the session.

By the way, how did that discussion of poffins and contests affect Valerie's view of us? Or is it just one of those things where she wants to forget it ever happened?
>>
>>802039
Wait, I did think of a question. How long has everyone else known each other for? Lake and Keira seem to get along really well, and Polu's a sociable boy, but Val and Jane are new. I'm not sure if they got here the same day as us or a month ago or what. Hana's naitive, but as I understand she has only recently begun to be sociable again.

Also wondering how long she was in the hospital for, and if she was a shut-in afterwards, but that's probably better learned in-character.
>>
>>802049
I doubt it had any sort of negative impact on how she sees us. It seems like she's still pretty embarrassed because she's realized that she's not really against the idea of sleeping with us or Laki, or both at the same time. At the same time, I think it also reinforced her understanding that we're a naive but sweet, well-meaning kid, who can be a little single-minded about stuff he's passionate about, which I suspect is part of why she likes us so much.
>>
So Mace only has to wear the Macho Brace until he learns explosion naturally, right? Roggenrola learns it at level 40, so it might be a while, and get a little frustrating for him. On the upside, he's going to get huge gains.

Also, I really want a training sequence where Gobble just uses metronome over and over.

Bella's almost learned everything she can as a budew. It's almost time to have the evolution talk.

Wow, I'm really loving all the development were getting for our pokemon. It's going to be interesting getting glimpses into our friends's relationships with their teams. I want to see what Laki and Wailmer think of each other.
>>
>>805801
We can also try giving Mace training to use his energy as a stat boost according to Gobble. I agree, Pokemon interactions are great.
>>
>>805812
I want to see Mace dramatically reveal that he was fighting with weights on the whole time, but now sees the need to unleash his true power.

And have a beam struggle.
>>
>>805833
Who needs a beam struggle when he can zip around?
>>
>>805840
Wait, zip around like Ironman or zip around like Voltorb? Because while either of those would be cool, and both seem to have a bit of precedent, I have a special fondness in my heart for lasers.
>>
>>805857
Well we won't find out until we try to train him for it. I imagine it would start off as Voltorb, but once he had enough power to become a Gigalith he might be a flying dynamo.
>>
>>805868
Well Boldore evolves through trade so if he can become a Boldore he has enough energy to be a Gigalith.

What sort of costumes would be good for a contest? I think that we could make a superhero theme work pretty well, but it's hard to brainstorm without knowing the format.

If we win this next gym battle, we should take some of those winnings and buy a couple tickets to a local contest and spectate.

We should bring Hana, since she's not sure what she wants to do, and we haven't gotten any one-on-one time with her yet.
>>
SAND STREAM GIGALITH. I know Mace won't evolve, but my favorite rock line got a huge buff.
>>
We now have all the Pokémon raw stats and moves for S&M. Soon they will be easy to read.
>>

Like Pokemon actually hunting and KILLING other Pokemon in the ecosystem instead of normal happy fun times where everyone gets along and nobody kills anyone

>>
>>807478
Yeah that works fairly well with our team and its an alright attacker in its own right.

Plus given Ribombee basically makes its own food with Pollen Puffs (and maybe Honey Gather) it could probably help with cooking / distracting Gobble. Not sure how many people care for that, but I enjoy trying for a theme.

>>802049
>By the way, how did that discussion of poffins and contests affect Valerie's view of us?
She's extremely embarrassed and hopes Laki doesn't remember anything. It was also the first time she thought of Herb as a guy instead of just another trainer. That doesn't mean she's fallen for him or anything, it's just that she didn't register him on her radar for that at all before. A seed has been planted.

But since Herb turned to to be single minded on contest stuff, she sees you as a huge potential rival for contests in general.

Sooooo
Godpod is fucking insane
He has a signature move which is just bug type fake out with lower priority and no flinch and can only be used when he first comes out but has 90 bp

This is compensated by his special ability which allows him to automatically switch when he goes bellow 50% and with the leech life buff you can do things like but your health back up over 50% to set up again
Combine this with ridiculousy high physical attack and you have a monster
>>
>>807900
pretty much, he'll be great with assault vest and maybe life orb. Maybe even band

But I can see your point of reptitive themes
>>
>>808073
I also just want a faster Pokemon on the team. Even with trickroom, you can't have it up constantly.
>>
When we were first thinking about what we might do way back in the post-quest, I was thinking we could be a bug-type expert. It seems like between gen 5 and 7 alone it's looking pretty good. Might have to do a mono bug run after I beat Sun.

if they are, I'll be happy to get either one. They would fill holes in our team, and are cool pokemon thematically. I love how Wimpod grows into a badass, which I see being a possible parallel to Herb's character growth in the future. Cutiefly seems like a great accomplice to Gobble and can provide a rare ingredient for Herb's cooking.

If any cool bug types show up, I'll be pushing hard to befriend it
>>
>>808510
Oh yeah. I was kind of tempted to push for a paras back in the cave, but of all the bug types, it's not one of my favorites.

>>
>>808696
Why not? Honestly curious, they're not the worst designs by any means.
>>
>>808738
Mostly because since I haven't used any of them yet, I know the release for S&M is soon and everyone will beat it in a month but since I haven't played it I haven't built any preferences that one gets for mons while you play through the game. Also there are already lots of mons to choose from

Something I saw by reading S&M Pokemon info, Cutiefly reads "auras" of living things. I don't think it is suppose to be exactly the same as the other Aura stuff since it doesn't learn Aura Sphere, but fun to note for those anons that liked the aura idea.

It would be interesting if it was viewing the same aura, but did so through a different lens. Like rather than type, it saw stats or ability or egg group.
>>
>>809230
Well it mentioned how its own aura was flowerlike. So it could see people as different types of plants maybe.
>>
>>809233
I wonder what everyone else's auras are
>>
>>809233
Actually there's a lot of different meanings and connotations and symbols behind different flowers, so it could be that it reads auras in the language of flowers. Which would be cool. It could make a bouquet of your soul.

Gobble, how does Canada feel about Trump? and would Trump make Loanah great again?
>>
>>809352
Loanah is already great. I'm totally not biased for the region and its name at all.
>>
>>809322
I wonder if that's kinda like what auras look like to Keira

Hey Gobble, where did she pick up the aura reading? Is it unique to ghost priestesses, or do all of the monasteries(or whatever the native word is) teach aura reading?

Nobody saw it coming. We are currently working on a wall to keep out Lena Dunham, Amy Schumer, and other similar celebrities that said they'd move here.

>>809356
It's a great name. Many thanks to the anon that suggested it.

>>809654
You'll have to ask her!

>We are currently working on a wall to keep out Lena Dunham, Amy Schumer, and other similar celebrities that said they'd move here.

Don't worry, we'll keep the trash here for you.

We memed a man into office, I'm proud and disgusted at the same time.

I really want to keep the EPA. I'm scared.
>>
>>810425
>keeping them out
I hear maplestan requires a marketable skill to immigrate in anyways, so I don't think you have anything to worry about there.
>>
>>810425
Thanks for using it. I'm still flattered that it was thought good.

Keep an eye out for all the new butts since we have a whole new world of Pokegirls.

The paris agreements are fucked, but at least the TPP is dead.
>>
Never thought I'd say this, but I'm excited to get the TM for Leech Life.
>>
>>813051
>TMs
I don't think this region has exactly those.
>>
>>816610
We had the option to buy the TM for explosion, and I'm not sure how else tyrogue woukd have learned theif.
>>
