Greetings, oh wise ruler!
Fifteen years have you waited to sit upon your throne, but at long last the moment has dawned - the realm is yours to command.
There's one small matter, though - I don't seem to recall the first thing about your country. Could you tell me a bit about it?

>Roll 3d100 for government type, resource and military strength
>Roll 3d10 for population growth, population size, and wealth
>Stability starts at 10, apply modifiers as necessarry
>Describe the basic fluff of your realm; the ruler, the faith, maybe some simple history. Just the bare bones, the rest will develop through the quest.

constitutional monarchy, fur and strength in numbers?
Or do you want one die at a time?
>>
>>792059
Are we working together? Or separate?
>>
>>792084
You have a Constitutional Monarchy! Though your powers are not as absolute as you'd like them to be, this at least means the peasants are unlikely to try to overthrow your rule.

Your country is rich in pelts! Perhaps it's foxes, or maybe bears, but anyway, your nation's furs are widely renowned.

You have Strenght in Numbers! Peasants are plentiful, so why not throw them at the enemy? This also means your population is at least Large.
>>
>>792095
Everyone runs their own seperate nation, though you can run a co-op if you want.
>>792093
You can roll all at once, dice rolls apply in the order in the OP.

>>792086
You are an absolute monarchy! L'etat, c'est toi! Although your powers are unlimited, the peasants might not take kindly to an 'arbitrary' ruler or a 'reign of terror'. Bloody nuisances.
Your country is a veritable breadbasket! The harvest seems to grow every year, and even the poorest man will find something to eat.
You have disciplined troops! This means that they're unlikely to run away, but the training of new soldiers does take longer. Use your army wisely.

>>792089
Your population is falling! It seems like your absolute power scares some folks away. You should try to attract new migrants.
Your population is average! At least until enough people leave, but that's a future worry.
You are penniless! Maybe taking the entirety of the treasury and using it to construct a giant golden statue of yourself wasn't the best idea...
>>

Your population is flourishing!
More and more meat for the grinder, eh?
Your population is average. It seems like the losses in combat and the growth of your population cancels each other out, perhaps?
Your kingdom is Ornate! Streets are paved, houses are whitewashed and even the slums can boast a temple or similar building. Not too shabby.
>>792126
I'm sorry, what did you forget?
>>
>>792128
I forgot the the set of 3 100's so I linked it. Sorry, it's still fairly early for me

I used paint.net to make it, but you can just draw a line with paint's paintbrush and I'll make it look good.

Your realm is an Aristocratic Monarchy! A small council of powerful nobles can vote on all state matters, but giving them this influence means you keep the most powerful men in your realm happy, King Linden I. A fine path between tyranny and powerlessness.
Your realm has Pelts! Looks like we're going to see some competition for the market!
Your men fight with Holy Fervour! Faced with godless heathens they will fight all the harder, but they'll waver when facing brothers of the faith. Deus Vult!

>>
>>792153
You are a Constitutional Monarchy! Shouldn't 'Law' be a thing that happens to other people?
Your kingdom is rich in Lumber! The wood from your realm is renowned for its durability, making it great for construction. It fetches a decent price on the market, by wood standards.
You have High-Quality Infantry! No mere peasants with swords, your footmen are elite and trained to the highest standards! [Instert Battlecry Here]!
>>792158
Your population growth is Stable! Your realm isn't growing, but it's not shrinking either.
Your poulation is Averge! It seems like your realm is the global census average.
Your kingdom is Prospering! Although some outskirts of big cities are run-down, this is rare; most buildings are in good state, and there is a significant middle class.

Of course I forgot the color and name. Well the color I wanted is red, and the name is The Kingdom of Portlage.

The island of Portlage, or what the inhabitants called The Torch, was a collective of warring factions and tribes for as long as anyone can remember. Nothing had changed, and if you told anyone it was going to change, well they probably would have burned you at the stake. It wasn't until a man of the name of Jakob Linden, son of the chief of the Mouari clan, the largest clan on the island, set out on a mission to unite his people and fully release their potential. Through 20 years of conquering and political maneuvering, the Kingdom of Portland was created, with each chief of the clans as part of the council. Linden then adopted the religion of Christianity to tie the populace together.

>>
>>792255
I was thinking about it, but religion is probably gonna be on the backburner for me.
So why don;t you give me a little backstory on the world. What year is it, what's the general history of the land?
>>
>>792261
Following the Christian Calendar, it is the Year 1349 of Our Lord - a time of progress and discovery, but also a time of warfare and plague. The Dark Ages of this world are drawing to a close, but its death throes still affect all realms. Plague destroys families and shatters nations, swords clash over land, honour, faith, or simple survival. The thunder of guns pierces the sound of steel on steel, new innovations spewing out ever greater instruments of death. In some laboratories hidden deep in the mountains or forests, experimental steam-belching monsters take to the skies or bring Men to the depths of the ocean. More and more is made possible through the powers of technology.
However, not all is scientific and rational. Armies of undead march onward to inevitability, great wizards destroy legions of soldiers, and enchanted weaponry is a prize worth destroying kingdoms over. A few brave, or perhaps foolhardy, souls have taken to combining mind and magic. Who knows what such innovation might bring?
Yet, magic and technology are not what defined this world. This world was defined by war. First, chieftain fought chieftain over hunting grounds; Later, king fought king over control of vital farms and resources, but more and more the power of individuals is waning as the State grows stronger.
The most recent change currently recorded was in the year 1345; known as the Year of Western Sails. It was in this year that strange ships came across the grand ocean Westward, bringing with them strange men, speaking a mysterious tounge. Some sought to trade, others to conquer, but from what little information is known about the West, one thing keeps coming back: these vessels are mere scouting fleets for warring kingdoms and empires across the ocean. Who knows what will happen?
It is in this age of conflict, be it king versus king, magic versus technology, perhaps soon East versus West, that you lead your nation to either greatness or certain doom.
Ave Imperiator!
>>
>>792292
Glad to see it's not the average Feudal system Medieval setting. It will be interesting to see how warfare will erupt in this quest. So are we gonna run it like a hard civ quest where we have to make decisions and we have a wade range of freedom to do it?
>>
>>792315
Yup! You have serious freedom in what you do, and I'll call for rolls based on your actions.
>>
>>792292
King Linden the First, it is your first day of kingship over Portland, and trouble is afoot at once.
Your Chancelorr leans over your shoulder as you sit on the throne and whispers "My liege, there is a nobleman of the southern coast here to see you. He looked... damaged."
>Let the man in for an audience
>Dismiss him, 'tis surely nothing
>Other (Please specify)
>>
>>792370
>>Let the man in for an audience
If he is a nobleman, then we must see him,or risk upsetting the council. Just make sure to keep a few armed guards around
>>
>>792385
You signal for the man to be granted audience, and the doors open. Your Chancellor's description doesn't quite cut it; the man's armour is ragged, his weapon appears broken and he has a massive cut on his face. As he enters, his breastplate falls to the ground.
"M-my King," he says, leaning on a servant for support. "The Southern Chieftains are... are revolting. They do not accept your rule, decrying you as weak, and have raised the s-standards of the pagan gods... They intend to march on the capital."
Your Chancellor pales at this news.
"Your Majesty," he says, "This is a dire situation. The South is critical to our empire. Shall I summon the Council?"

>Summon the Council

>Other (Specify)

>>
>>792428
Despite the dire straits you are in, you decide to summon the Council. Best not risk two revolts at once.
Fortunately, they are all in the castle, as it was your inauguration day. They are roused from their beds and, though grumpy, gather in the King's Hall for their meeting. Five men, of varying skill and trustworthiness, but all equal in that they are powerful enough to warrant a position on the council of five men plus the King.
You look around the table, and take in the men you work with:
>Lord Jashon, a lord of small lands but great ambition. His espionage skills and spy network are both the reason why he is on your Council and why he is so valued; if you want dirt or someone, or want to 'remove' somebody, he can arrange that. Just hope the Spymaster's ambition isn't aimed at the throne.
>Grand Chieftain Kruug, of the Prothor Tribe. Your most trusted general during the Unification Wars and owner of many lands. His gift for commanding men has salvaged more than one battle, and it was him who instilled the values of discipline in your men; this is why you gave him the position of Marshal. However, he openly rejected Christ the Lord, clinging to the pagan ways, and as such poses a direct threat to your authority.
>Bishop Walread, the first missionary to your kingdom and the head of the first and only cathedral on the island. His zeal is a mixed blessing; it has converted many of your headstrong followers to the true faith, but he has no patience for pagans who refuse to convert. He serves as your advisor on spiritual matters and as such is your Chaplain.
>Tirran Goldfingers, or 'Sir Tirran', as he proudly boasts. Originally a middle-class merchant peddling in fine furs, his fortune grew so large he was able to purchase lands and a title. He serves as your Steward, and a fine one at that, but you suspect his greed has cost you more than a few coins...
>Old Beda Ringhand, your trusty Chancellor. A man of soft words and reconciliation, he serves as your dignitary to foreign courts. He is perhaps not the most accomplished diplomat you could find in your realm, but the Ringhands have served your family faithfully for decades, and your men regard Old Beda as a sort of lucky charm.

>Do you want to change any Councilmembers> (Please Specify)
>>
>>792496
Lord Jashon, I want information on the lords that have revolted. I also want some connections inside of the revolting kingdoms. Even a blacksmith or a jester is needed.

Grand Chieftain Kruug, even though you are pagan, you are trustworthy and the best General here. You will lead the Army to recapture the southern Territory from the rebels.

Bishop Walread, after this rebellion is put down, I want you to focus your attention to the Pagan territories. I do not want any bloodshed or voilence, just constant religious pressure.

Tirran Goldfingers, we need unity here more than ever. We will host a fair inviting everyone from all over the Empire to Invictus to further solidify the unity that I have created.

Old Beda Ringhand, I want you to go to the South and find out what they really want. We have no desire to make a deal, but buying time will prove incredibly helpful to Kruug.

Everyone in my court seems fine so far, but I have my eye on Tirran, and I want to look into getting a Lord for trading. My goal is to further improve our economy and expand.

Lord Jashon nods, smiling as he smokes his pipe.
"It will be done. You'll hear when I have anything." He was never a man for grandiose speeches.
Grand Chieftain Kruug, on the other hand, is as large a ham as they come.
"Pagan or not, I am loyal, my liege. These traitors are not. They know honour nor duty, rejecting the most sacred principles of our creed, yet they call themselves followers of the old gods? I will have their heads for you, my liege!" He slams his fist on the table.
Bishop Walread solemnly nods. "I will have these pagans see the light, my liege," glaring at Kruug and emphasizing the words 'pagan' and 'light'.
Tirran smiles. "A fair, my lord? Very well, I shall begin preparations immediately." He starts muttering in himself. "Dancers... wine, too..."
Old Beda coughs, and then smiles. "Very well, young King. I shall leave on the morrow".
As the Council leaves to go about their duties, you're suddenly left alone, with no advisors. You wonder what you should do.

I want to go over the Economics of the Empire. Of course our main export is furs, but I would like to expand that. I wan't to locate any veins of metals, or any fertile grounds for farming. Our streets will be paved in gold

From Dhakir, the eternal city, a great empire has been ruled since time immemorial. Unfortunately, many of the sultans were mad, and at one point the nobility rose up and imprisoned the Sultun until he agreed to their demands for a parliamentary system. So was the House of Viziers founded. The current Sultan Akkan finds himself far less powerful than his distact ancestors. Still, he rules, so it could be worse.

The people of Dhakir enjoy a mediterranean climate on the coasts, and are well off, even if the sultanate's golden age has already passed. In particular, the hardy cadamia trees which grow in this land, even in the depths of the inland drylands and deserts, are famed for the strength and durability of their wood.

After several fairly standard petitions, mostly about peasants claiming redress against perceived injustices by their lord, you come across an interesting case; an ugly , tough-looking man comes in, next to a scraggly, frail person. You soon learn that the latter used to be the slave of the former, working in the countyside farms, where slavery is still common practice, to the city, where it is almost unheard of. Since you do not yet have a council and there is no clear precedent or law on slavery, you have here an unique chance to shape your nation.
>Return the slave to his master. Slavery will be codified in law.
>The slave made it to the city, so he is a free man. The countyside will have slaves, the cities will not.
>Barbaric! Outlaw slavery.
>>793068
You seek Lord Jashon - or rather, you wait until he finds you; finding Jashon is an almost impossible task. He suddenly appears next to your shoulder, almost supernaturally quiet. "My lord, I bring joyous tidings," he whispers in his quiet voice. "The rebellion is not as strong as it appeared to be. It is but a few chieftains and their men, not the entire South. Furthermore, many of the rebel soldiers doubt their cause. I believe that if we... incentivize some of them with promises of power, gold or land, they will try to overthrow the turncoat chieftains and stop the revolt with minimum bloodshed. What say you?"
>Very well. An estate for every man that brings me their leader's head!
>Excellent. A sack of gold for every dead traitor chief!
>Make it known that any who bring me the head of their rebellious commander will be knighted.
>No, let us think of another ploy.

>Seek the loyalist Viziers.

Random arrests and executions are what got the House of Viziers made in the first place, so best to go the more diplomatic route. I've not been a mad sultan like my old grandfather was, so there's got to be some viziers who are still loyal. If I could get a few to speak out for me in the House of Viziers I might be able to get an odd few arrests swept under the rug.

This sounds interesting, I'm going to try this out.

The Northern territories are the legacy of a great and powerful culture, known as the Northmen, which lived along the plains of Árósar around fifteen thousand years ago. Then, a large flood happened, taking with it much of the old plains, and covering them with water. This forced to tribe to reach new lands along the Northern coast, and several splinter groups quickly formed, such as the Rivermen and Foresters. After a few thousand years of squabbles between the disunited peoples, the Gulaþingsmænn peoples were united under High King Hannibal I, and marched upon the other peoples, conquering them and setting up vassals, which would form the great dynasties that rule today. This kingdom, known as Gulaþing, lasted for five thousand years according to ancient histories, until the Sögnfirðingr tribe, which had invented steel weapons beflore the other tribes, invaded and burnt down the lands of Gulaþing. Then they enslaved all of the descendants of Hannibal, and for a hundred years they forced them to build their cities for them, the first and largest one Being the capital, Ísavík. The Ísavík palace was said to be built only by the best of their craftsmen, and would that explain how it has managed to stand for the last 2500 years without much damage. At some point in the last millennia, the great dynasties untied in a quest to bring all the Northmen under their banner. after centuries of fighting, mainly around the lands of the river Tjors, the Northern Commonwealth was born, and the Northmen kingdoms of the Foresters and Rivermen made into marches, marked with crimson borders on the map.

Now, the kingdom sits in relative isolation, as the great dynasties squabble over the throne. The current leader, Kári IV, is of the Seldælingar dynasty, which rules the lands of Arnarfjörðr and the nearby firths. Will he bring stability to the realm?

Forgot to say anything about religion. The people in Dhakir follow a dualistic religion, with a God of Light/Life/Fire/Order and a Goddess of Dark/Death/Ice/Chaos. The religion focuses on balancing the two sides, as if either god becomes too powerful and overcomes the other it will end the world. There is a well established system of temples and a priesthood with a solid rank system going form standard priests up to the Grand Hierarch, who advises the sultan and viziers on religious issues.

Oops, yes, your council. Thanks for reminding me, sorry for forgetting.

You summon your Council. It's a fairly small Council, consisting of three men and you, but it works. They're all rather furious about you passing a law without calling them, though. Your Council consists of:
>Kythara, a former leader of a tribe of hunter-nomads, now the Militarist, in charge of all military matters. She is headstrong and almost never retreats, but inspires her men into fighting off far greater armies successfully.
>Ythren, one of the nobles that manage farms. Though not a great trader, he has a keen eye for running a country - he helped you with many of your reforms - and is thus the Economist, charged with economic affairs.
>Quell, the Diplomaster, in charge of all things diplomatic. He has somehow managed to keep everyone outside your realm thinking it wasn't falling apart until you stepped in, so he is very competent indeed.

>Do you want to change any Council members?

You decide that the best course of action is agressive expansion.
To this end, you meet with Kruug He suggests using our navy (shit, lemme make a table for that in a minute) to launch raids focused on several points in close proximity of each other to cause the enemy to focus troops there, before storming the coast on another beach entirely and seizing the enemy's capital before his army can react. However, he does request that you send Jashon to gather intel.
Speaking of which...
Your Spymaster approaches you, smiling.
"My liege, I believe I know what favour to ask of you."
You raise an eyebrow. "What is it, then? Land? Gold?" He shakes his head.
"Not at all, it's just one very simple act. I'd like you to propose a law." You ponder this. Whilst the Council must approve every law before it takes effect, only the King may propose new legislation. He passes you an envelope.
"My suggestion is in here. You could, of course, reject this idea. I could, certainly, demand another favour. But I would be very..." - he picks his nails with an unnervingly sharp knife - "dissapointed. My lord." He adds the last two words in an afterthought before leaving you, not even giving you the time to demand an explanation.
Spymaster:
>Open the envelope, let's see what he wants.

>Sultan Akkan debates faction leaders and sends feelers to the army

What was intended as an attempt to diplomatically engage your opponents turned into furious blustering and empty threat-making when none of them even deigned to talk to you. You actually had to pin a Vizier to the ground to get an answer, and that 'answer' was him spitting in your face. Such open hostility means the Viziers are very, very certain of their power, and you are in very, very much trouble.
What's worse, news of this un-Sultanlike behaviour reached the army, which now mainly seems to support the Viziers. How will you salvage the situation?

As your Councillors start angrily demanding an explanation, you put up your hands in a reconciliating gesture.
"Friends, comrades, please! I meant no harm when I did what I did and I bear none of you ill will. However, we must not forget simple pragmatics: our kingdom is looking better by the day, but still is very fragile. If I were to leave the throne room in the middle of petitions to ask my Council for help, that would damage what little faith people have in the government. Perhaps my actions were rash, and I offer a sincere apology to all of you, but I do everything I do for the good of the realm!"

The Law of the Sea is whatever they can gather from the ship-wreck itself. Once another man grabs/recovers it, it is there own propriety and it is the gods who gave that.

However if taxes were to be hiked for a small period of time due to him being unable to claim the goods well and the villagers have it well clearly they can suddenly afford to pay it. Blood-shed is unneeded as the Noble will get back the money either through taxes or the men recovering it. However if either side wishes to fight, then they will fight it out and if it spirals both sides will be cracked down upon for defying the rule of the sea.

>Ask the temples for help.

If the viziers and the army can't be trusted the priests are my best chance at allies. They can make sure the commen men are on my side.

Well, guys, this was awesome, but I'm getting really tired and I fell it's affecting the quality of my QM'ing, so I'm going to archive this thread and call it quits for tonight. If I find the time, I'll run again tomorrow. For now, good night to all of you. It's been a blast.
Alternatively, if you all want to go on, one of you can take over as QM. I don't mind.

Say we'll duel her but not to the death. We can't afford to lose a competent council member like herself after we've literally just got off the brink of collapse. We need to hold together (Say all of this so she understands how bad it is)
>>
>>794187
>tfw finally get in
>QM has to go

Feelsbad. Any Idea when you might be around again?
>>
>>794187
See ya QM thanks for thr run.

I am

Mind telling me the value of having Tributary's? Isn't it better to own land directly then have indepent vassles?
>>
>>794564
Vassals will want independence rather than to usurp my throne, and allow me to have a relatively secure border

Speaking of safe borders, want an alliance?
>>
>>794607
At the current moment, I don't see much of a reason. Once I've secured my tower targets.. well that'll be something else.
>>
>>794667
>tower targets

What are those?
>>
>>794678
Two* The Island off Fort Managwhere and That coastal dot on Not! Greece/Italy.
>>
>>794687
Oh whoops, thought you were Ish's character. Still would you ant to trade? I got some fish and lumber if you want.
>>
>>794830
Someone mentioned me?
>>
>>794830
I would have no issue once QM comes back and I know what the fuck i'm currently lacking and all that.

Yeah, just got back.

MFW got max wealth, and almost max population and growth.

And a food resource, and excellent infantry and a republic.
>>
>>795113
GrandMaster Thanatos, Will you be alright if I take that Island off you're coast to set up a Trading city/fortress.
>>
>>795127
The one off the coast of Mangawhera?

No. That shit's gonna be called Stewart's Island.

Anything that is highlighted in my colour on the map is my rightful clay or sea.

Oh yea since we are literally right next to each other want to form an alliance and such?
>>
>>795258
It would be my pleasure. It would help me in my western focus, and will allow greater trade between us.
>>
>>795284
Wonderful it'll also allow me to focus on my southern expansion.
May we both prosper.
