“Happy Halloween!”

You enter the dorm's common room to see what is an incredibly packed room, filled to the brim with students from all three classes, most of them decked out in extravagant costumes. Saki comes rushing up to you decked out in some super-hero get-up with a wide smile on her face.

“Like my costume?” Saki asks. “I'm a superhero!”

“Yeah, it really suits you Saki,” you nod staring at her exposed midriff.

Saki pouts. “Ryoji, you have the wandering eyes of a pervert! Halloween isn't about wearing costumes to be ogled at by the guys in class!”

“You should tell that to Chihiro when we see her,” you smirk.

“Besides, the only reason I'm wearing this revealing costume-”

“-Not that revealing-”

“-Is because you turned down my Salt and Pepper couple costume idea!”

You sigh. “Sak, did you really think you could get me to wear one of those ridiculous costumes?”

“Just because you're a delinquent doesn't mean you should be too cool for Halloween!” Saki lectures, wagging a finger in front of your face. “You didn't even wear a costume!”

“Sure I did,” you reply. “I came as a spooky demon. Oooooh!”

You waggle your fingers in a ghostly manner in front of Saki's face. “Not funny, Ryoji!” she pouts. “But that's fine, I found a replacement for a couple costume!”

“And who's that?”

“Ta-Daaaaaaa!” You hear Akemi yell as she leaps onto Saki's back in a cute spandex costume. “I'm the adorable sidekick! I'm Buckemi!”

“See, it all worked out in the end,” you reply.

Saki lets out a yawn as you notice the bags under her eyes. She's been stuck working late on school projects and mission planning every night this week. Even when she came into your dorm room those nights, she would find herself falling asleep mere minutes into cuddling you. Poor girl must be exhausted.

“Are you sure you don't want to grab some sleep while you can?” you ask.

“What, and miss a spooky Halloween party with all my friends?” Saki smiles. “Not a... a...”

“Sak, you're drifting off.”

Saki jolts awake. “I'll be fine, Ryoji. Come on, let's sit down!”

As you move to find a place on the cramped couch, you find yourself bumping into a certain class 1 student. One you really don't want to see.

“Oh,” Kazuma sighs. “It's you again.”

This snot-nosed little brat again... well, at least you can have some fun teasing him. “Well, if it isn't my little kouhai. Gotta say, I'm very disappointed in you, kid. No Halloween costume? That's lazy.”

Kazuma raises an eyebrow. “I wore a badge with a pumpkin on it, isn't that enough?”

“Definitely not,” you reply.

“And what about you?”

“Demon.”

“Oh come on, that's cheating!” Kazuma yells.

You shake your head. “Well, I'm not going to spend the holiday arguing with you about your stupid rock-”

“It's more than just a rock!” Kazuma protests.

“-So, I'm going to mosey on over to where my girlfriend is sitting and actually have fun today.”

As you turn to leave, a voice calls out in the distance. “Kaz! Hey, Kaz!”

As you examine the presence of the voice, you see that it's two of Kazuma's friends, his ninja sister and her quiet friend that you've seen around. Both members of that club of his. The ninja girl is in some generic Halloween-y costume complete with pumpkin and devil wings, while the soft-spoken girl is looking rather unsure of herself in what appears to be a sexy Oni costume complete with short skirt and exposed mid-riff.

“Hey guys... wow, Mayu...” Kazuma mutters under his breath as he looks over to them.”

“I apologise for my appearance,” Mayu bows. “The only other Oni costume was even more revealing.”

“It was basically a bikini!” Kiriko laughs. “I thought she looked good in it, but Mayu refused to buy it!”

There's a brief silence as Kazuma continues to stare at Mayu. You can't tell if he's attracted or simply shocked to see this cold seeming girl dressing up in costume, but either way you find yourself with the opportunity for some good old fashioned teasing.

Kazuma's eyes widen in horror as Mayu looks on coldly. "No, he does not. That would be very foolish of him," Mayu replies.

"Yeah, exactly!" a flustered Kazuma protests. "I don't think Mayu looks cute at all!"

"Kaz, that's a little rude!" Kiriko gasps. "She's standing right here!"

"W-well," Kazuma tries to recover. "I think she looks cute right now... but it's the costume that I think's cute, not Mayu herself!"

Kazuma gets more nervous as he seems to begin digging himself further into the hole you dug for him. "I mean, Mayu is a very attractive-"

"Kaz, you're going red!" Kiriko laughs. "Oh, this is perfect! I always thought you two would make a good couple!"

"What?!" Kaz exclaims in a horrified voice.

"What?" Mayu mutters in a hurt tone.

"Yeah, my two best friends dating!" Kiriko laughs. "It would be really cute!"

"I..." Mayu mutters. "I don't want that."

Kaz glares at you as you give a victorious smirk before making your way over to the couch. Saki makes room by sitting on your lap, as you turn your attention to the couple making out right next to you.

"You two are getting a little eager, aren't you?" you chuckle towards Ken and Nanami. "You're starting to look like Rini and Kosuke."

Ken pulls away from Nanami for a moment and smiles, decked out in some sort of Kamen Rider outfit. "Come on, it's a party! Can't I kiss my girlfriend at a party?"

"Feels so weird for you two to finally call each-other that," you mutter.

"You think that's weird?" Ken laughs. "How about Rini and Kosuke being husband and wife?"

"Yeah, that's going to take getting used to," you reply. "So what are you tonight, Nanami? I expected you to keep your pirate gear."

"On Halloween?!" Nanami gasps. "No way! This is a time for originality! Meet my new character... Nanami-san, the Rinin Samurai!"

"So you went from pirate to samurai?" you ask.

"Yep!" Nanami laughs. "I even wrote an extensive backstory for this one! I'll be sure to tell you it later!"

"Why not now?" you ask.

Nanami points to Ken, and you nod in understanding as the two return to making out.

"Saki, wake up," you sigh as give your snoozing girlfriend a light shake.

"Gah?!" Saki jolts awake before rubbing her eyes. "I wasn't sleeping, I swear!"

You scratch your head. Keeping her awake is going to be a real challenge. "Come on, let's stay on our feet and mingle."

"Oh..." Saki yawns. "Who with?"

You look around the room to see all the various groups at the party that you can mingle with.

You decide to check in on the group of the girls and Hiro. You're especially curious about Alice, who you haven't seen in a while. And from what you've gathered from Saki's sleepy mutterings at night, her last mission features a rather startling revelation... that strange group have some kind of ritual that separates an Archdemon from a host. Ever since finding out about it, your mind has been filled with curious thoughts... while Stranger has remained completely silent. Annoying, as you want to talk to him about something he said a while back... that he sensed an Archdemon among those on the campus ground. Perhaps a student? Who knows.

"Ah, if it isn't Ryoji Shida!" Chihiro exclaims as she welcomes you in a ghoulish purple dress that, to your surprise, covers her entire body.

"Huh, I was expecting something a lot more revealing," you mutter.

Chihiro gasps. "Now Ryoji, what do you take me for? I am a woman of class! And after all, that sweet religious boy runs away from me when I wear revealing clothing! I feel it's time I switched my strategy!"

"Right..." you mutter. "Well, I expected Nariko to be dressed as a sexy cat... instead, she's a sexy pig."

"That's right, I'm a cop!" Nariko winks as she bends over towards Hiro. "Hey Hirooooo! Have you been a good boy? Or have you been very naughty?"

Hiro pauses and thinks it over, decked out in what appears to be a kid's cowboy costume. "Well, I'd like to think I've been good, but I can't say for sure. I try my best, though!"

Nariko sighs. "Yes... right..."

"Let me guess, you dressed up your cats too?" you reply.

"Of course I did!" Nariko replies. "Little Daisuke is dressed as a devil, while little Ryoji is dressed as an angel! It's not representative of my thoughts of them, of course. In truth... they're both angels!"

"Sure," you roll your eyes, before inspecting Alice's blue and white frilly dress. "And who are you supposed to be?"

"I'm Alice!" She smiles.

"Yes, but your costume... who is it?"

"Alice!"

You sigh and shake your head. "No, who are you dressed as-"

"Alice in Wonderland," An exasperated Saki clarifies, sparring you from a confusing conversation.

You then turn your attention to Sayeka, who is decked out in a rather low-cut dress. "And you, Sayeka? What's your costume?"

"I don't know," the ever-reserved Sayeka replies. "Chihiro picked it out. I'm a little worried by the amount of exposed skin I can feel..."

"It's an appropriate amount!" Chihiro re-assures her, and you can see by how Chihiro's standards it would be. "Besides, you need to look as good as possible if that Taiyo boy shows up!"

"I'm not interested in that..." Sayeka sighs.

Putting aside Chihiro's attempts to set up her friend, you decide to keep your focus on Alice.

"Of course!" Alice smiles as you pull her away from the group for a brief moment. As you do, Alice calmly walks into you, wrapping her arms around your waist in a tight hug that takes you by surprise.

"Huh, what is this about?"

"I missed you," Alice smiles, as she hugs you tighter.

You're confused for a moment, but then smile and hug back. "I missed you too, kiddo." It's true, it's been a good while since you've last seen her, ever since she joined Class 1. The two of you have been through a whole bunch of crap together, and it's only now, seeing her again after a long absence, have you realised how much the little scamp has come to mean to you. "You doing okay in your new class?"

"Uh-huh!" Alice smiles. "I have new friends! I'm in a club! People like me!"

"Good to know," you smile, before you remember why you called her away in the first place. Can't get caught up with small-talk right now, you gotta focus on what's important. "So... these Demon Slayers had a ritual..."

"That's right!" Alice exclaims. "They wanted me to do it, but I didn't want to do it, so I didn't do it!"

Alice has a way of making things very simple, yet still managing to keep it confusing. "Why didn't you want to do it?" you ask. "Getting rid of the Archdemon, being fully human again, I figured you'd have wanted that."

"But Dreamer would die!" Alice exclaims. "I don't want that! I like Dreamer!"

You'll never understand the relationship Alice has with her Archdemon. Against all odds, she and that thing have become... friends. You can't even humour the idea of the same happening for you and Stranger. That bastard has screwed you over time and time again, you'll never have a healthy relationship there.

"They were very nice about it!" Alice explains. "Well... I was told some would be mad... very mad... so we didn't tell them!"

"Right..." you reply.

Alice pauses. "You look like you want to say something, but you're afraid of saying it. Don't be afraid! Tell me!"

"You are?" Alice asks.

You nod. "Yeah. You made a very important decision, Alice. I don't think I could do something like that... I'm proud."

Alice smiles a wide grin as she runs in and hugs you again. "Oh, that's so nice! I'm proud of me too!"

Damn, you missed this girl. You're glad to know she's able to stand on her own two feet now, without you or Chihiro watching over her.

"Also..." Alice mutters. "I've been thinking... of seeing my sister. Maybe... talking to her."

You pause. "That could freak her out... but if it's what you want to do..."

Alice nods. "Right!"

"By the way," you add. "Have you... sensed anything lately? Has Dreamer picked up on a demon presence in the school for a second, then nothing?"

"You felt it too!" Alice laughs. "Yeah! It's so weird and spooky!"

"I'm guessing you're as lost as I am," you reply.

"Yep..." Alice chuckles. "Very confusing!"

You nod, as you and Alice return to the group... where Saki is lightly snoozing as she leans on Chihiro's shoulder.

"Oh, this is just precious!" Chihiro laughs. "Ryoji, look at this!"

You sigh, as you shake Saki awake.

"Huh?!" She exclaims as she jolts up again. "I wasn't sleeping! Who do you think I am... Sleepy... Sleeperson?"

"Great name," you snark. "Come on, maybe we should grab some punch."

You lead Saki to the food table. After opening a metal tray to reveal Akemi poking her head out from under the table with a boo, then asking for you to cover her up again for the others who come by, you pour some punch from the bowl into the cup and hand it to Saki. "Here, drink up. The sugar will keep you awake... or maybe having to pee will."

Saki sleepily nods as she raises the cup to her lips.

"Ah, Sak's enjoying some of the spiked punch!" Rini laughs as she leans her elbow on your shoulder from behind.

"Did you just say 'spiked' punch?" you ask.

"... No," Rini shifts her eyes.

You spring into action, leaping forward and slapping the plastic cup from Saki's hand seconds before it reaches her lips. "Gah!" Saki exclaims. "Ryoji, what the heck?"

"You don't want that," you explain. "Rini spiked the punch."

"You what?!" Saki exclaims in shock.

Rini shrugs in her witch costume. "I didn't do it! I don't know who actually spiked it, but I noticed there was alcohol in when I drank it... now I'm just taking plenty!"

"Underage drinking?!" Saki snaps, suddenly more active than she had been. You should have figured something like this would keep her awake. "Rini, how could you? That's incredibly irresponsible!"

"Pfft, come on Saki!" Rini laughs. "I can handle it! I'm mature! I'm married! I need to enjoy this before me and Kosuke start having kids!"

Saki gasps in shock at the idea, as you take her by the hand. "Come on, Sak. Let's get you some coffee instead."

You make your way to the kitchen area of the common room,where you can see that some coffee has already been made... by Rei. "Hey Kobashi, you look beat!" she brags while dressed in a blue dress belonging to some fighting game character. "What, can't handle your hectic schedule?"

"I'll get used to it..." Saki yawns. "But it's cutting into my love schedule with Ryoji."

"You have a love schedule?" Rei laughs.

"... No. Why are you having coffee?"

"I heard the punchbowl was spiked," Rei explains. "I'd rather stay away from it... for everyone's sake."

Saki smiles and places a hand on Rei's shoulder. "That's very responsible of you, Rei. Makes me proud."

"I don't need the approval of my rival, Kobashi!" Rei snaps. "But... thanks anyway."

"Nice costume," you remark.

"Thanks," Rei responds. "I thought it suited me. Isamu's in a ridiculous knight costume, he can barely move in it."

"I positively think I look dashing!" Isamu exclaims in a suit of cumbersome armour.

"You look like a block of metal," Rei explains. "I practically have to hold your hand all night. If you fall over, you'll be like a turtle on its shell."

"I think it suit me just fine!" Isamu laughs. "But still not half as well as yours! You look absolutely beautiful, Miss Arisato! Your magnificent thighs have never looked better!"

Rei blushes, as Saki pours herself some coffee and takes a drink. "Ah, that's much better..."

"So," Rei remarks. "This Yami guy... I've been thinking, and I want to know our policy on him."

"What do you mean?" you ask.

"Look, I've got nothing against killing the bad guys," Rei explains. "But we had no choice in killing Yamato, and we had to kill Settan to end the Endless Night. This guy... he's a piece of crap, but I don't know what approach we're taking."

"Right," Rei nods. "Just checking. Damn... it's always so much harder when I'm not given free reign to just slash through the demons. Pain in the ass..."

"I get that," you reply. "But there's a lot we don't know. The Archdemon possessing Yami is only one of twelve. The rest are still in The Darkworld, but it won't be long until another one decides to invade here as well. We need to gather as much information as we can from Yami until then."

"Easier said than done..." Rei mutters. "This guy is more dangerous than anyone we've ever fought before..."

"Have no fear!" Isamu boasts. "No matter how powerful he is, I will stand up to him like a true honourable hero!"

"Yeah, you did that with the last guy..." Rei sighs. "You almost got killed by Settan, remember? I was so scared..."

"You were worried for me, Miss Arisato?" Isamu smiles.

"Of course I was!" Rei yells. "You're my boy... I mean, you're my friend and you were almost killed! You really need to stop being so stupid and brave!"

"Happy Halloween!" Akemi yells as she hops up on you from behind, but fails to latch onto your back due to her now being in some sort of foam dinosaur costume.

"What the hell?" you ask. "First you were Saki's sidekick, then you were a head, and now..."

"I'm a pocket monster!" Akemi chuckles, waddling in her foam suit. "Rargh!"

"She... changed in front of me," A red-in-the-face Raiden mutters. "She... she didn't even give me a warning..."

"You need to calm down," you say to Akemi. "You're going to run out of costumes."

"No I won't!" Akemi exclaims. "I was left a whole bunch of them by The Great Pumpkemi!"

"The Great what-now?" Rei asks, raising an eyebrow.

Akemi chuckles as she explains. "The Great Pumpkemi! The spirit of Halloween, who visits the good children and gives them costumes for being nice all year round!"

"This... this is just going to be you in a pumpkin suit, isn't it?" Rei mutters.

"What?" Akemi laughs. "I'm not The Great Pumpkemi! What makes you think-"

"The name literally has 'Kemi' in it-"

"The Great Pumpkemi is a spirit that lives in everyone!" Akemi explains, giving a thumbs-up in her foam costume, before bouncing off to have more fun. She's really getting into the spirit of the season, no doubt.

Raiden looks on and gives a longing sigh as Akemi bounces on.

Raiden notices his smile, as he begins to blush. "Oh... I guess I am."

There's a brief silence, before Raiden decides to speak up. "Ryoji... I'm sorry."

"For what?" you ask.

"What do you think?" Raiden replies. "For... what I did to you. All those months ago. I realise it's far too late to be apologising... I was stubborn in my belief that I was doing what I thought was the right thing at the time... but it's about time I told you I'm sorry."

"No problem," you reply. "You were dumb, scared, and you panicked. You've made up for it since... it's water under the bridge."

"Still..." Raiden mutters. "It hurts to always know the horrible, unforgivable thing I almost did to one of my closest friends."

"Oh, so we're friend now?" you ask.

"Yeah... we are," Raiden replies. "You're my friend, as is Saki, as is Akemi... and that makes me happy."

Raiden looks over to Akemi and smiles once again.

"Hey, look who's here!" Rini calls out, as she pulls out a familiar face from through the hallway. "We've got a little visitor with us!"

Rui, the maid of Kosuke's parents. It's a safe night, so Rini and Kosuke dragged her up to the school for tonight's party. She's still dressed in her maid outfit, likely unable to find a better costume. Hey, it's a better costume than what you've got.

"Hey, look at this!" Rini laughs, pointing out Raiden. "The broody dude's a butler. Maid and butler, huh? You two could hit it off!"

"I don't think that-whoa!" Rui yells as Rini shoves her towards Raiden. She chuckles nervously as she brushes the hair behind her ear. "Well... hey."

Raiden looks over at you, unsure what to do.

Raiden gives a nervous nod as he turns his head to face Rui. "Right... hello, my name is-"

"-Raiden, right?" Rui smiles. "I'm a maid. I'm good at remembering names. You're with that cute girl... Akemi, wasn't it?"

"W-well, I'm not... with her, not in that way..." Raiden mumbles. "But... we're very good friends, yes. She... means a lot to me, and I might be falling in... anyway, you're Rui, right?"

You give a proud nod as Raiden stumbles his way through a conversation, but at least he's actually trying to be sociable.

As you approach Saki, who is now pouring another cup of coffee, trying desperately not to fall asleep, you give a smirk. "You're jittery already, Sak."

"S-shut up Ryoji," Saki shakes, spilling some of the coffee as she does. "I can make it, I know I can! I won't fall asleep! I'll make it through the whole night, and we'll cuddle until the sun rises!"

"I doubt you can manage it," you chuckle. "But I'd be pretty damn impressed. Good luck, Sak."

"Greetings!" Nanami yells as she approaches the two of you.

"No 'ahoy'?" you ask.

"Of course not, I'm a samurai now!" Nanami laughs. "Anyway, I was wondering what the next plan is! People are mingling... slightly drunk too, thanks to the mysteriously spiked punch, and I'm sure you have more plans on how to make this party great!"

"You bet I do!" Nanami laughs. "Okay, I'm going to gather everyone in a circle and we'll take turns telling some! Think of your spookiest story!"

"I don't know any," you mutter.

"Well, you'll know plenty by the time the night is up!" Nanami exclaims. "Let's get spooked!"

The classes gather around in a circle around the couch, with many significant others sitting on knees to make room. You hug tightly into the snug and caffeine fuelled Saki, as Rini sits on her husband's lap, Nanami sitting on Ken's... even Rei sees the need to make space, but instead opts to sit on Akira's knee. Akemi sits on Raiden's lap, who surprisingly doesn't kick up a fuss about it, as he continues to chat with Rui.

"Okay, I'll start off!" Nanami exclaims, as she regales you all with the tale of a man trapped in the middle of the ocean in a boat on a misty day... except the end of the story seems to imply that he wasn't actually alone, a beast of some sort swimming below him.

"O-oh... t-that's really scary..." Hoshi mumbles as she nudges closer to Reiji. Reiji hesitates to place his arm around her to comfort her, but works up the courage to at the very least pat her head.

Lilo then manages to egg Maro into telling a story about a hiker who finds an abandoned cabin in the wood0s on a dark night. He stops in for the night, and despite being unnerved by all the creepy portraits hanging on the walls, their eyes almost seeming to follow him as he moves, he gets a pleasant night of sleep. When the hiker wakes up in the morning, he is horrified to discover there are no portraits on the walls, only windows.

"Oh, I have one!" Hikaru smiles as she raises to her feet from Akio's lap.

"Umm, are you dressed as a member of The Order?" Reiji asks, adjusting his glasses as he examines Hikaru's costume.

"What?" Hikaru asks. "No! It's from a videogame!"

"See, not even that nerdy transfer student recognised your costume, babe!" Akio exclaims. "I knew you should have gone with the slutty librarian costume I bought!"

"I'm not a transfer student..." Reiji sighs in defeat.

Hikaru shakes her head. "Just shut up and listen to mine, okay? Right. Close your eyes and imagine this..."

You close your eyes and comply with Hikaru's orders.

"You wake up in your living room. It's the middle of the night, black outside, aside from the light of the moon, which shines through the glass of your window. Suddenly, you hear a knock on the door, so you go to inspect it. You make your way to the front door and answer it... but there's nobody on the other end. You're confused, but you figure it must have been the wind. That, or kids pulling a prank. Anyway, you decide to head to bed, so you lock the door, close the window, turn out all the lights and make your way upstairs."

There's a long pause in the room, before Rei speaks up. "And...?"

"No and. That's it. That's the story."

"I... don't get it," Rei mutters. "Where was the monster?"

"It's subtle," Hikaru explains. "Just give it some thought for a minute."

There's a brief pause, before Satomi lets out a horrified scream. "Agh! I just realised! Hikaru, that's horrifying!"

Hikaru nods in pride as you raise an eyebrow. You still don't get the scares, but whatever. Soon, that creepy girl from Class 1 pokes her head from the shadows of the corner of the room and speaks up, raising her hand. "May I?"

Kaiya wanders into the centre of the room, staring intensely at everyone in the circle surrounding her. You figured that the worst that can come from this is that you'll get more of her insane ramblings that make no sense.

"Eclipse has fallen," Kaiya explains. "Now sun and moon struggle in the sky. Which will set, and which will rise?"

Yep... more gibberish.

"Uh-huh..." Kazuma sighs. "Got any more for us?"

Kaiya turns to Kazuma with daggers in her eyes. "Darkness descends upon a shadow and the shadow is enveloped. The one who pulls the strings shall look into the void and make their choice, while The Emerald Phantom haunts the hands of the clock."

"Right... she's kinda killing the vibe," Rei mutters. "Can we boo her off?"

Kaiya snaps her head back to glare at Rei. "The broken candle goes out as the golden champion turns to tin. It has been seen. Not by one, but by two."

Sayeka turns her head away, an upset look on her face. "Make her stop... please..."

"Okay, I think you're done, Kaiya!" Nanami exclaims, as the smiling Kaiya slinks back to her position. "New rule! If you don't bother to wear a costume, you don't get to tell scary stories!"

Doesn't need a costume... Kaiya is already scary enough on her own.

The horror stories continue in full force, eventually ending as Hoshi busts out a punch of disks with classic horror movies on them. You're surprised to see Hoshi is such a big fan of horror movies, but you suppose it's her own little way of trying to boost her courage. The party continues as the movie plays in the background. Eventually, you are pulled away by an unexpected face... Sora's.

"Excuse me for bothering you," Sora explains. "I know I don't speak up often... but I have something I must request of you."

"What's that?" you ask.

"I would like you to meditate with me now," Sora explains. "In order to contact with the Stranger. There are questions that we require answers to."

Sora nods. "Thank you. I must admit, I have come to fear this Yami person in time."

"Really?" you remark. "Huh, I figured you were the type not to fear anything. Always so calm all the time."

"I should explain," Sora mutters. "I do not fear this man himself. He is simply a troubled individual, with what I expect to be an unfortunate past. However, I do fear what he can to those I care for... my classmates... my brother... I've already lost much to men like him... with minds like him."

You nod in understanding. "Yeah... Yami's dangerous. More dangerous than anyone else we've fought so far... and with him comes more. More Archdemons who can follow in his footsteps."

Sora takes you to a corner of the room as the rest watch a classic giant monster movie about some jet-powered turtle or whatever, and sits cross-legged, asking that you do the same. You do, as Sora closes his eyes and begins to hum. Now, you must clear your mind of everything, all but your thoughts of The Stranger."

You shut your eyes and begin to focus on Stranger... come on... come on Stranger... you focus and focus your mind on calling him, until finally... you find yourself within a space within your head... which is looking much less like a black expanse of space than it used to. A sofa, a desk... seems Stranger it trying to make this imaginary expanse feel that bit more homely.

"Stranger!" you call out within your mind. "You here?"

Before you know it, a presence creeps up on you from behind. A strong, menacing presence, a dangerous presence, coming in from right behind-

"BOO!" Stranger yells from behind you, almost scaring you out of your socks.

"Dammit!" you yell back, clutching your chest. "You asshole!"

"Sorry, couldn't resist myself," Stranger chuckles menacingly. "It's the season, after all."

"Well, you can make it up to me by telling me why you've been so silent lately," you mutter.

Stranger shrugs. "I... I've been working on something."

"Working on something?" you ask. "What, in my head?"

"Yeah..."

"What the hell are you working on?"

Stranger glances around. "It's... a secret. Look, It's a surprise, but... you might like it, okay?"

"I don't believe a single word you said."

"You shouldn't!" Stranger chuckles. "Doesn't make it any less true."

There's a long pause between you and Stranger, before he speaks up again. "So, that ritual..."

"Yeah..." you mutter.

"You've been thinking of going through with it, haven't you?" Stranger asks.

My name's The Stranger, I'm the Darkworld God of paranoia, and you went and surrounded me with friends."

"And yet you don't sound angry or bitter about that," you reply.

Stranger shakes his head. "I hate that I'm happy with this. Being a part of you is... confusing."

"Well, in time you could not be a part of me," you explain. "You could be dead. Sounds like motivation to start playing ball and give me the answers I need."

"Sounds like a threat," Stranger laughs. "It feels good to know that you're not above handing a good ol'fashioned threat."

"You're treating this like a joke," you reply.

Stranger nods. "Because it is. Face it, Ryoji... you need me. You're nothing without me."

"Other way around," you reply. "You're nothing without me, Stranger."

"You still haven't taken the stone from that kid," Stranger mutters, changing the subject.

You let out a sigh. "No, he's a stubborn little bastard."

"A lot like you, then."

"He's nothing like me!" you yell.

"... I felt it again."

"Felt what?"

"The power," Stranger mutters. "That sudden burst of Archdemon power on campus, before inevitably disappearing seconds later. It's so intense, like one I've never felt before... and it's here. It's definitely someone here. Could even be in your class. Could even be Saki."

I can't help but think the agents are a herring, but it's better to look at both options.

I don't think it is one of the government guys.

We need to look at this logically. How fast does possession take? Are there ANY tells, like perhaps staring off into space when you have a conversation, or slightly longer than normal pauses between speech, like the response is on a lag timer? I feel like there's an easier way to narrow this down, we just haven't applied methods to it.

"Seems un-trusting, don't you think?" you mutter.

Stranger chuckles. "Who cares about that? At the end of the day, you'll know the truth and that's all that matters, isn't it? Call me paranoid, but I think you should at least consider it."

"I trust my friends a little too much to go stabbing them with needles," you mutter. "Besides, if this demon can hide their presence from you, who says they can't make their blood look human?"

"I'm just offering a suggestion," Stranger remarks. "I'm yet to hear you suggest something better. Just... think about it. Now, stop talking to me. I have something to work on, and you should be enjoying your party. People are drunk by now."

Stranger snaps his fingers and you find yourself being pushed out of your own head. Your eyes shoot open, as you see Sora meditating across from you. He slowly opens his eyes and lets out a sigh. "You didn't get the answers you seek?"

"No," you sigh. "But whatever, I'll have better luck next time."

You rise up to your feet, as you look out towards the party... damn, Stranger wasn't joking. Looks like everyone had a little too much of the punch. Especially Rini, who is now holding onto a distraught and jittery Saki, gushing about her feelings.

"Saki, I loooooooove you!" Rini slurs her speech. "I know I can be mean, but I wanted you to be my maid of honour because... because you're so important to me! I don't have a sister, and you don't have any sisters either... so I thought... you could be my sister? And I could be yours! Because we're like sisters, and I like teasing you because you mean sooooooo much to me!"

"That's... really nice of you, Rini..." Saki gives a somewhat confused smile. "And... I'm happy to have been your maid-of-honour. You're... you're like a sister to me too, Rini. You're one of my best-"

"Aaaaaaand you've got a butt that won't quit!" Rini giggles, as Saki lets out a sigh. "And don't get me started on your chest! You might be even bigger than me by now! Oh, you're soo freakin' cute, I just want to kiss you... you know what? I'm gonna kiss you!"

Rini leans in close and before Saki has time to react, Rini is planting her lips on hers. Saki's eyes widen and she begins to panic, as many in the room, yourself included, begin to stare. Saki pulls Rini away, as Rini wipes her mouth.

"Oooohh... you're not that bad!" Rini laughs, her nose red. "Ryoji, you're a lucky guy! When are you gonna lock my sister down and marry her?!"

"Please help," Saki meekly squeaks.

You shake your head and pull Saki away to the couch. Saki lets out a yawn as soon as she sits down and begins to drift off once more.

As she does, you are accompanied on the couch by Seishiro.

"Dammit..." Seishiro sighs, practically inviting him to ask you what's wrong. "Not having any luck with the ladies tonight."

"How is that different from any other night?" you ask.

Seishiro grumbles. "Because tonight is a special night! It's a party, and it's Halloween! A night of romance!"

"It's actually a night of scares," you explain.

"Whatever," Seishiro grumbles. "I just need a girl to focus on. I don't know, Ryoji... who'd go for a guy like me?"

Akio and Hikaru were there too, and while they were making out, I just apologised for being shitty to her earlier... then we just sorta talked about feelings for a while, and then... held each-other because it made the both of us feel better... you know, normal stuff."

"You... you're joking, right?" you sigh. "Look, Satomi's cute, right?"

"In a weird way, yeah."

"Go talk to her."

Making it a straightforward as possible seems to have done the trick, as Seishiro moves up from the couch and makes his way over to a slightly inebriated Satomi, who is sitting down on a wooden chair to avoid the dizzies. "Hey nerdbutt," Seishiro smiles as she approaches her. In a shock to everyone, Satomi burst up and wraps her arms around him, planting her lips to his.

"Whoa, what are you doing?!" Seishiro exclaims, pulling away briefly.

Satomi blinks. "Engaging in a romantic connection and giving away my first kiss. That's what you came over here for, right?"

Seishiro pauses. "... Oh yeah. It is."

Before you know it, Seishiro is on the chair while Satomi is straddling him. As you look around, it seems to be the make-out hour for everyone. All of the real couples are going at it of course, but you notice more than just that. Maro is actually making out with Lilo in public for once, and is actually placing her hand on her behind as he does, putting a lot more effort into than you expected. The tall guy from Class 1 seems to be making out with another brown haired girl, while that boyish girl looks on sadly. Most shocking of all, as you look in the far corner of the room, you see that Hoshi is leaning into Reiji for a kiss... but then she quickly passes out from the alcohol, and the ever-responsible scholar carries her to her room. You're certain there's plenty of others who are going at it, as there is a suspicious number of students missing from the room.

"So..." Nanami smiles as she pulls away from Ken. "How did you like my samurai character?"

"I thought it was really cool," Ken laughs. "But I definitely like you more when you aren't wearing the armour."

Nanami giggles as Ken turns red when he realises what he said. "Wait, that came out wrong. I meant when you're more being yours-"

Ken is shut up by Nanami whispering something in his ear, something that lights his face up greatly. "You... you mean it? You're ready for that?"

"Ken, you innocent boy!" Nanami laughs. "I've been ready since day one!"

Ken approaches you, and clasps his hands together. "Ryoji... I hate to ask, but can Nanami and I have the room to ourselves tonight? We're gonna... you know... for the first time..."

"Thanks man," Ken smiles, as he looks over to a giggling Nanami, who is tipsy and standing in the entryway to the hall, giggling as she attempts her best sexy beckoning gesture with her fingers.

"Nervous?" you ask.

"Of course," Ken sighs. "First times are always nervous, but... look at her. I couldn't ask for a better partner. I just hope I can be a good enough man for her... not just tonight, but in general."

Ken gives you a nod, and you nod back as he rejoins Nanami and the two retire to your room.

"Looks like we need to find a new place to sleep," you mutter.

"Mmm... sleep..." Saki smiles, her eyes closed as she rests her head on your shoulder.

You lift her back to her feet, as you look around the room. You look to the kitchen as you see Chihiro with Makoto, the two of them clearly having had some of the punch... yet Chihiro isn't making her move. Instead, she's simply pouring a glass of water for Makoto.

"Oh, it is absolutely dreadful that you got tricked by that punch!" Chihiro sighs. "Drink this, it will make you feel better."

"This is awful!" Makoto's sister cries in distress. "We'll have to pray hard every morning to wash away this accidental sin! Are you okay, Makoto?"

"I'm okay..." Makoto smiles, drinking down the water. "Thank you..."

You smile warmly, before stepping out into the hallway. Kazuma seems to be talking to one of his friends, some girl with brown hair who talks a lot yet doesn't seem to be drunk, as the both sit leaning against the wall, while you see the ninja girl comforting the oni costume girl, who appears to be drunkenly throwing up into a bucket. Some people can't handle their drink... and by 'some people' you mean 'most of these idiots'.

You step outside with Saki only to be welcomed by a comforting sight. Isamu is standing with Rei out on the porch of the dorm building, a blanket draped over their shoulders to shelter them from the cold. Meanwhile, Akemi is sitting on a pumpkin, wearing a long hat, with Akira helping set up the fireworks behind her, and Raiden looking on with a smile. Rui is standing with Raiden, but she is eventually pulled back inside by a drunken Rini and Kosuke.

"Behold!" Akemi yells as you step outside. "It is I, the Great Pumpkemi! The spirit of Halloween!"

"The best time of year!" Rei cheerfully yells, as she snuggles closer to Isamu."

"That's right!" Akemi exclaims. "And it's now time for my Halloween fireworks display, as is Pumpkemi tradition!"

"You're so amazing..." the tipsy Raiden mutters, his inebriated brain forcing him to speak the truth. "I... I love you."

There is an awkward pause, before Akemi gives a cheerful laugh. "Of course! Every loves The Great Pumpkemi! She brings joy into the hearts of millions around the world! So Ryo-I MEAN, LITTLE BOY, are you here for the fireworks?"

"Yay!" Akemi exclaims. "Enjoy the spectacle of the fireworks! Now, I, THE GREAT PUMPKEMI, must take my leave! Happy Halloween!"

Akemi runs into the dormitory, before running back out in a few seconds later, having changed exceedingly quickly from her hat and cape and into a new outfit, one featuring some very familiar clothing and some make-up to make her face paler. "Hi everyone, what did I miss?"

Raiden smiles as she steps out, and you can even hear him let out a small laugh. "The, uhh... Great Pumpkemi was here."

"She was?" Akemi exclaims, her eyes lighting up. "Wow! I passed by her inside! She told me all about you guys... and what you said!"

Raiden's eyes widen as he realises what Akemi's getting at. "About what I said..."

"Oh, Raiden!" Akemi laughs. "The Great Pumpkemi told me to tell you that she loves you too!"

"R-Really...?" Raiden mutters.

"Yep!" Akemi gives a thumbs-up. "The Great Pumpkemi loves all the good children of the world."

"Good children, huh...?" Raiden smiles, before offering Akemi to share his blanket. Akemi snuggles in close to him, as the holiday-themed fireworks go off in the sky. Pumpkins, black cats, witches... the words "The Great Pumpkemi is great!"

"Hang on..." Raiden mutters. "Are... are you dressed as me?"

"Yep!" Akemi giggles. "Funny, isn't it?"

"Yeah... it actually is."

"Isamu..." Rei mutters, warmed by her blanket. "You... know how much you mean to me, right?"

"Of course!" Isamu chuckles. "And... I'm sure you know how much you mean to me too, Miss Arisato."

"Yeah..." Rei smiles, before turning her attention to a neglected member of the group. "Akira! You wanna get in on this blanket action?"

Akira hops in to join Rei and Isamu in watching the fireworks, as you feel the always pleasant sensation of kissing on your neck.

"What's this?" you ask with a smirk.

"An apology," Saki mumbles, as you drape a spare blanket over yourself and her. "I'm sorry I wasn't more... awake for all of this."

"It's okay," you smile. "You're sleepy, it's forgivable. Besides, I got to see you get lewd with Rini."

"You're the worst, Ryoji..." Saki giggles.

"I'm sure we'll get a chance to be more romantic a few days from now," you reply. "We're meeting my parents after all. I can't wait to introduce you to them... and to know them myself."

"How are you going to introduce me?" Saki asks.

"I was thinking something along the lines of 'This is Saki Kobashi, head of Class 2. Granddaughter of the principal, lover of the rules, all round pain in the ass most of the time... but I love her, and she's the entire world to me.' How does that sound?"

"Perfect..." Saki smiles. "Ryoji... I'm scared."

"Scared?" you ask. "Well, it's the season for it."

"I'm serious..." Saki sighs. "This Yami is running loose, and... I don't think we're all going to make it out of this one."

"Don't worry," you reply. "We always pull through. We're not just a class, we're a family. Nothing can hurt us, no matter what stands in our way."

"I hope that's true..." Saki murmurs. "Ryoji, I love y..."

And she's out like a light. Even shaking her lightly isn't enough to stop her snoozing. She held on as long as she could, but you suppose it's time for the two of you to retire for the night.

You spend the night holding Saki close in her bed, while a drunk and sleeping Hoshi mutters surprisingly lewd things in her sleep. What a crazy party... looks like everyone just got caught up in the season, having some good old teenage fun. It's great when you have the time to not worry about Archdemons and the end of the world... and just enjoy being a kid.

In the morning, you make your way to your own room. You knock on the door, asking if it's safe to come in, and Ken tells you to proceed.

"How was last night?" you ask, as you see Ken sitting by the bedside desk.

"It was... amazing," Ken laughs. "I mean, I could have been better... didn't last as long as I thought it would... but we had fun! She was laughing, I was laughing... and I know I made the right choice with her. Our next time will be even better, I'm sure."

"Congrats," you laugh. "Where is Nanami?"

"In the shower," Ken replies. Good thing he did, as you were just about to use the bathroom yourself... that would have been awkward.

"By the way," Ken mutters as he point out a small lockbox on the desk. "I didn't notice this last night, but someone must have left this here during the party. I think it's for you."

You raise an eyebrow as you cautiously approach the box. Attached is a small note.

"Ryoji Shida, this is safer in your hands than his." - Mayu Nakatoni.

Curious, you open up the box... and inside is a blue gemstone... that gemstone.

You pause. This makes things either a lot simpler... or a hell of a lot more complicated.
