Last time, we lost our brother, shared a beer with a faceless, evaded an upper management thin man, found out our brother was coming to us, managed to kidnap the soon to be mayor of Philadelphia with no casualties and got our ass kicked by a former XCOM ranger who is offering to train us.
The story continues soon.
I'll allow this post a bit of time to get bumped so all the old players can find it hopefully.
>>
just post op some of us are lurking....
>>
"I'd really like for you to train me, Luke. But I dont know what I would do if I was offered a position in XCOM." You say while biting your lip
Luke nods and motions for you to follow him.
"First lesson in your new training, interrogation. We have the mayor locked up in an old conference room and it's been delegated to me of course to find out what he knows." Luke talks quickly as usual and his walking pace is similar to his voice, you struggle to keep up.
You turn down a narrow hallway and stop at a set of double doors with windows on either sides, you peek in and see the Mayor laying on a table peacefully asleep.
"Looks like our friend has acclimated to his new environment just fine, lets change that. The objective is to get any intel we can from him about what ADVENT is planning for Philadelphia. I'll let you take lead, how do we handle this?"
>Good cop, Bad cop, a classic

"Let me get my tools. We're doing good cop, bad doctor."
Luke raises an eyebrow but nods and heads into the room telling you to come in whenever you're ready.
After retrieving a medical bag and surgical tools you come back into the room and see Luke and the Mayor with coffee.
"And this is my associate Dr.Lance Hardwood." Luke says motioning to you
"Hello Doctor." The Mayor says sipping his coffee
You dont answer and simply sit in the seat directly next to the Mayor and sit your leather bag on the table.
You begin removing your tools forceps, needles, a bonesaw, scalpels, and a small vial of saline solution. The Mayor goes a bit pale at the sight of the bladed instruments, you smile lightly and lean into the Mayor speaking at a near whisper.

"Let me tell you Mayor Codwell. While I am a man of medicine, the line between hurting and healing is very thin and unfortunately for you. I don't remember taking the oath." As you say this your fingertips lightly graze the instruments on your left, the mayor is beginning to sweat. A strong action now can help solidify his fear.

You slam the scalpel's needle point sharp tip inbetween the mayor's fingers and he recoils violently.
"I may not have taken the oath, but my companion here is supposed to keep me under control. If you don't want to talk I may remind my friend of his irritable bowels, besides our training bags are all breaking down I'm sure something fresh to hit would help the men work out their aggression." You smile sinisterly and the mayor remains silent.
You cock your head and feign hearing something.
"Is that your stomach grumbling?" You say to Luke
He takes the hint and rubs his belly
"Must have been all this coffee, please excuse me. He leaves the room.
The Mayor now wide eyed begins to sweat freely
"Please..I cant say anything, they'll kill me." He pleads

Administer a safe measure of adrenaline (or other stimulant) and tell him

"Have you heard of yew toxin, mayor? It's a rather subtle heart poison characterized by a unusually long metabolic chain. For a few hours you will only feel a sense of stimulus and anxiety, but once it finishes metabolizing the heart suddenly seizes up, swiftly killing the victim."

"If you cooperate, I assure you that I will fetch you the antidote to the dose I just gave you. If you are still uncertain, well, you still have about an hour or two to mull it over."
>>
>>784294
They will kill you. I will not.
I will do SO much more.

Don't jump straight to the fingernails guys, we need to draw this out.
>>
You grab the mayor by the wrist. He tried to pull away but your incredibly powerful grip prevents him from moving.
"The difference." You say stressing each word
"They aren't here with you now. I am and I can do so much worse than they can at the moment." As you say this you take your forceps and get a solid grip on his pinky nail.
"No, Please for the love of christ man please." He begs
You ignore him and pull violently seperating the nail from his finger, blood pools in the indent of his nailbed and he is now crying.

The mayor is whimpering so you raise your voice before continuing.
"See the thing is Mr.Mayor, they are not here with you. I am and I count at least 19 more nails, 32 teeth, 2 ears and a tongue I can rip off before I decide to finally kill you. So I suggest you cooperate, you put one hand under the table and wave for Luke to come in.
The door swings open and Luke stands there holding a new cup of coffee. He slams it down and yells.
"Jesus Doc, you already killed the last one you trying to start a collection?"
The mayor looks terrified and shrieks, "Okay fuck I'll talk just get him out please."
Luke puts a hand on his shoulder and gives you a nod and you take the signal to leave the intel gathering to him.

You go back to the armory and find Mathilda to be freshly shined and hanging from a hook with your name above it. Fresh boxes of ammunition are at the bottom of the wall aswell, you shrug and grab your weapon before heading to the underground shooting range.
You want to practice your close quarters combat while firing, firing while sprinting, and maintaining focused fire.
Which would you like to focus on?
>Sprinting While Firing (Allows shooting while moving to a new position)
>Close Quarters Combat (melee attacks are a free action)
>Maintain focused fire (allows you to target specific limbs or points on an enemy for crippling or extra damage)

You work on your Close Quarters Combat involving a firearm against a few of the sectoid standing targets. You practice firing then dropping Mathilda going into an elbow strike before turning to fire again. After a couple of times you feel you have the motions locked into your muscle memory, you even try to learn how to disarm an opponent effectively.

You practice hard, placing the gun in the deciys hands and practicing kicking it out and firing and using Mathilda to smash it to the ground before firing point blank. You also take enough time to ensure muscle memory will complete the action if you start it. You head back upstairs and begin putting your weapon away.

You walk down the hall amd hear a commotion.
"Lance, I have news for you." Luke is yelling, his face is in a wide grin
"The Mayor squealed like a pig. He revealed some intel about your brothers train coming in, he has an ID Card that will let him get into the train station and into the boxcars themselves. Only problem is that it's held by his desk jockey secretary who's more afraid of ADVENT than he is." You sigh this is goid news but the location of the key card means more running you were hoping for a day to relax maybe.
"I've seen you work, let me show you how I work. Follow me to the Secretary's apartment and lets get that keycard." He begins walking off quickly as usual straight into the elevator.

You rush to keep up with Luke and get in the elevator as he sends it back upstairs.
You step outside, it's raining lightly and the air is darkened by grey clouds, Luke tells you to hold up and he walks across the street turning down an alley before you hear a dull roarx he turns the corner in a tri-car. The top comes off with a satisfying hiss and he motions for you to hop in. You fasten yourself in the backseat and he speeds off, the city and other cars fly by in a blue of disorienting light and color. You have a feeling this is the last chance you'll get to ask Luke any questions.

"What are you intending to do?"

Don't let him say stupid shit like "you'll see".

Yeah it's cute to say "just watch" and let us be surprised by it, but this is a fucking war here. One where we do not have the upper hand, and can't afford screwups from lack of communication.

If this doesn't rely on us having a natural reaction, it's outright stupid to keep us in the dark about it.
>>

Who hurt you?
>>
>>785726
It's fine. He wasnt telling me how to write it. He was insisting if Luke gives a vague answer that Lance press him on it for information.
>>
>>785726
Perhaps it's somewhat autistic to assume he might answer that way, but it's best to head it off with autism instead of making the QM waste another post on it.

At least, that's my logic on the matter.

"Luke, whats our plan? Doesn't the secretary have security around him at all times?" You ask
Luke simply chuckles and replies.
"We are deep cover operatives remember? Turns out my cover is part of the ADVENT-Human police force. Detective Luke Halts, I'm quite the sleuth." As he says this he flips a switch and an LED trim around the window flashes blue and red.
A few more minutes and tires screech as you brake sliding up to an apartment. Luke steps out and tosses you a silver badge on a chain, only saying
"Put that on and keep your mouth to yourself." He says getting a serious face and pulls out his own gold badge from inside his shirt.
You approach the door and Luke flashes his badge to the two Troopers and simply walks past.
You approach the troopers and do the same they wave you through lazily after getting a closer look at your shield.
You two ascend the stairway and Luke knocks on a door and it opens near immediately and on the other side an ADVENT Stun Lancer is gripping the hilt of his blade. Again you and Luke simply show the Lancer your badges and walk through.
Luke pulls you close.
"Wasn't expecting a personal guard. I need you to take him out while I have a chat with the mayor's lackey."
He walks away before you can respond, this isn't going to be easy and you can't risk firing your revolver you keep tucked in your waistband. What do you do?

You wrap your massive arm around the aliens neck and squeeze. Trapped between your solid biceps and triceps the Lancer is helpless and before a long a low gurgle and a muffled crunching signifies the Lancers death. You sigh outloud and head to the door Luke had gone through, just as you reach it you hear shattering glass. You shoulder the door open and run into the room to see Luke holding a scrawny man with short sandy hair by his throat out the window, Luke begins wiggling the man before stating
"My arm is getting tired Arnold, I'm considering dropping your ass and spending my night searching for the card my damn self. Now last chance or you take the express to the ground floor." You see Luke's arm strsining and slightly shaking, he wasnt lying, he really cant hold him much longer.
"Detective, Okay! Jesus christ, it's in my book in my desk. I was using it as a bookmark, the code to my desk is 5325 now please let me down!" Arnold is begging while holding onto Luke's forearm.
"I'll let you down Arnold, unfortunately you've seen our faces and even if you dont talk, Sectoids will draw it out of you." Upon completing that sentence Luke drops Arnold, who goes down screamings in terror until a sound similar to ham being tossed against a wall echoes up through the broken window.
"Get the keycard kid, we're going to have some explaining to do." Luke says as he cuts under his eye with a shard of glass and ruffles his suit.
You get the keycard and pocket it before Luke tells you the play.
"XCOM Phantom Rangers broke in, I got in a scuffle with one and he caught me with his machete and escaped. You took a blow to the face and went out cold, they tossed Arnold and escaped while I fought the leader but when you went down I rushed to your aid and they all got away."
You nod and reply
"That makes sense, but you have injuries and I...don't...you're gonna hit me aren't you?"
Luke cracks his knuckles and grins in a grim sort of way.
"It's all in the name of authenticity Doc." You never see the sucker punch that puts you to sleep.

You wake up with the world flipped the wrong way around.
Groaning you lift your head and the world becomes right as you see Arnold's apartment getting farther away.
"What the fuck?" You mumble and then you feel yourself being let down gently.
"Sorry about that, Mate" Luke whispers as he leams you against a wall and you cradle your swollen cheek.
"The troopers bought our story though thanks your our injuries so, it was for the greater good." As he says this he claps his hand on your shoulder. You shake it off and stand up, you look at Luke and one question can't stop itself from exiting your mouth.
"What now?"
Luke smiles that grim smile again.
"Two choices, the train containing your brother is at a maintenance station 10 miles outside of town because of some 'accidental' damage to the cooling units. So we can either: Go investigate the train now, try and make sure your brother is out of the crossfire tomorrow, or we can wait and join in on the assault tomorrow and get him then."

"So if we were to go right now, obviously we have no guns, no back-up and no real escape plan. But if we managed to pull it off your brother would be safe as houses. If we go tomorrow then we will do the regular plan of sneaking into the train while the fight goes on, of course he coukd catch a bullet by the time we get there or something could go wrong and the train explodes or takes off." "We're going now. I'm not going to risk my brother."
Luke's grim face grows even more so somehow, he sighs.
"I was afraid you'd say that..we have to make a stop then, I have some gear."
You both get back into the Tricar and Luke stomps the accelerator and you're off, after a few minutes of quiet speeding Luke turns to you.
"I've got two suits stored in my emergency supply. I have a Skeleton Suit and my old Ghost armor. The skeleton suit is a little ragtag, the grappling hooks in both wrist launchers will be able to help you maneuver around the battlefield. The Ghost armor had to have the wrist launchers removed to repair the skeleton suit but it does have a cloaking feature making you blend into anything you're pushed up against. "Give me the ghost suit, you're more experienced with stealth operations. I'm going to need it to keep up." You say
Luke chuckles and nods as the car begins to slow and he cuts the wheel hard sliding into an alley way.
You pass through the alley into an abandoned basketball court where Luke stops the car and gets out.
"Follow me kid." Luke says as he enters a small storage shack made of sheet metal
You step inside as the light wire door creaks shut, Luke holds you a bulky plastic case and gets another for himself from beneath a pile of flattened basketballs.
"They're fingerprint locked so I'll pop em when we get there but there is one more piece of equipment for the two of us."
Luke turns and moves a net filled with dirty jerseys and picks up two items wrapped in canvas tied with leather strings, he holds both out to you.
"These are my babies, I'm trusting you with one. If you lose it or break it, I will beat the hell out of you." He says in what you hope is a joking tone.

He unwraps the left bundle, revealing a long thin blade that seems to almost shimmer in the dim light of the shack. He then unwraps the right bundle showing a thicker blade which he gives a flick that extends a sort of built in axehead.

He also receives two sheaths, a hip sheath for you and a back sheath for himself before he leads you out of the shed and back to the car. You both get in and Luke goes to start it up before turning to you.
"Any last requests or questions? Once we go we can't really turn back now that we have all the gear with us."

"A few..what do I do if you die first off." You ask
Luke keeps a neutral expression and only says
"You run like hell."
"And if I die..get my brother out, please." You plead while Luke maintains his grim expression.
"Of course, Lance. You can count on me."
You nod, satisfied Luke would honor your wish. Another thought crosses your mind and you grin.
"Luke? How much are we going to have to apologize to Watcher for making his job harder tomorrow?"

Luke finally breaks his grim grin with a sly grin
"A while back Watcher decided he couldn't be arsed to wait for me to shut off security at an ADVENT peace keeping station so he busted in leaving me to deal with a squad of Stun Lancers. I could turn on lightbulbs by touching them for a week after that. So a little revenge should square us up."
As he says that he pulls into a dirt patch on the side of the road.
"Change into your suit here and we'll head up on foot." He points off in the distance and you see a small series of buildings flanking either side of a large train, an occasional blue glow comes from the side where they are working on the side of the train.

You and Luke slowly make your way through the sparsly wooded area approaching the Maintenance station. The train now clear in your sight you can see one of the train guards moves to the front of the train, previously shrouded by shadow the guard was now in the light of the train's massive headlight.
A sectoid leans against the train typing on its wrist-pad lazily looking around before going back to the wrist-pad.
Luke signals you to follow him and he moves left into denser foliage.
You hear yelling and about 15 feet in front and to the left of you a door flings open and..

You and Luke both move forward, you move the beanches out of the way and grab one engineer from behind choking him.
You hear nothing from Luke's side, no twigs, no rustling leaves, no muffled gagging like you're dealing with. In fact when you look over Luke is already wearing the bulky Engineers suit and the body of the engineer is gone.
As the engineer goes limp and unconcious you pull his body into the brush and dress yourself in his clothes.
Both of you are now disguised.
Unfortunately the entrances into the train on this side are all locked and the only way in is through the doors connected to the repair platform.

"Well Luke, lets head for the break inbetween the train cars. We can hop up on the platform and get in from there." You say
Luke nods and motions for you to lead. You slip inbetween the building and train car until you reach a point where there is only a small set of hooks attached to eachother to keep the train held together as it travels. You step over the hook and heave yourself onto the platform.
"HEY!" You hear a voice yell
You and Luke freeze as a man with a clipboard marches over to you
"About time you two got here, we've had a problem with the internal heat detector for a fucking hour. The third traincar back has problems go back there and make sure we dont have to buy a replacement for the damn thing." He turns and aggressively walks away while you and Luke simply look at each other.
"We have our excuse now at least." Luke says
Luke begins walking towards the third train car. When you reach it he holds the ID card to a small blue scanner, a small series of beeps go off and the smooth black exterior extends with a hiss and slides to the side revealing the interior of the train car.
"Sweet Christ." You hear Luke mutter as he stumbles back

You take a closer look in and your stomach drops, shrouded in the swirling fog, caused by the colling agent being pumped into the train, is a series of tanks glowing a light green and inside them are people. Judging by the medical screens on the exterior...these people are all dead.

You and Luke stare in hprror at the dull glowing stasis pods.
You take the first step into the train car, the fog has settled near your ankles and goosebumps raise on your skin as you look at the pale grey faces in the tanks.
You examine all the medical screens and it's quite obvious these men are dead, as you wonder why the aliens keep a train full of dead people Luke walks up from behind you.
"Lance, Look at this." He hands you a small book. The small book contains the names of all the subjects in the tanks and the names were put into groups that were accompanied by another name ones you could not read however.
"Do you know what this means?" Luke asks you, his face that deathly serious look
"These are soldiers..what we call Psy Zombies. Those strange names must be the Sectoid Commanders who can raise those entire groups for a squadron of already dead soldiers."
You sigh and mutter "Jesus christ"
"We have to get this back to the resistance if we attack tomorrow we will be demolished by this force." Luke says
You pocket the book and motion for Luke to follow you when you hear the sound of lurching metal and the hiss of brakes being disengaged.
You see through the open side panel that the scenery is slowly moving past you, the train is in motion.
"Damnit, We have to get off and get this back to the resistance." Luke says moving for the door, you grab his arm
"What about James?" You ask
"If we managed to find him and if we could even get him off this train there's no way with an extra person we could get back to the city before the train arrived and the assault began. We have to leave him."

When the professional who readily advised a high-risk improvised operation tells you that something isn't feasible and will only get you killed, it's best to swallow your emotions and listen.

Besides, if this information doesn't get back before the assault, then the assault force is kill.
>>
You feel your face redden with anger as you go to argue but the look in Luke's eyes say it all, staying is suicide.
"Fine, Lets get this info to Watcher and the Hellraisers and make sure we're ready for the train.
Luke nods and you both hop out of the train and make your way back to the car, as you drive Luke pulls over next to the tracks and gets out. You try to ask him what he's doing but without looking he takes a grenade and throws it at a nearby tree, the explosion knocks the tree onto the rails and Luke climbs back in and resumes driving.
"We're going to need every delay possible if we are going to be ready in time." Is all he says to you.

You arrive back at the base around 6:45 AM.

You and Luke go downstairs and he goes to head away from you with the book.
"Luke where are you going?" You ask
"I'm taking this to Watcher and Lee, it doesn't take two to deliver a message I'm sure you can manage to find something to do while I relay this intel." Luke says dismissively

You decide you'll play around a bit, see if any inspiration hits you while practicing with your new gear.
You get used to the light weight of the blade perfecting stabs and slashes but on one lunge you must accidentally activate the suits stealth capabilities.
You realize after practicing a few more times that by moving your arm a certain way you can turn the dial on your shoulder that activated the suit's environmental camouflage.
(You can now cloak immediately after performing a melee attack, this coupled with your melee attacks costing no actions is a valuable tactic)

You exit the training room when you feel you have a solid grasp on what you have dubbed The Shadow Strike.

An ancient PA crackles to life and Lee is heard over the system.
"All members in any combat role are to report to the common room now. This is a mandatory meeting, all Hares are to report to Fleet for their assignments and all Shadows are to report to Luke's second in command Mark. That is all."
You hear this and begin scratching your head wondering who the hell Mark is, when you hear Luke.

You nod and follow Luke trying to keep up with his ridiculous pace.
As you enter the common room at least 10 people not including, Watcher, Goldy, Chonsky, Lee, Charge, Luke and Yourself are there, Luke pushes through the small group and stands infront of everybody with Lee and Watcher. He motions for you to stand next to him so you too advance to the front of the room.
Lee speaks up and the low murmurs are immediately extinguished.
"You are all here because you are all we have. You are the only thing keeping ADVENT from setting their feet on the table and using Philly as a spa. In 5 hours a train will be stopping in the Western ADVENT Station, this train contains 50 dead bodies that will be controlled by 5 sectoid commanders."
Another murmur breaks out over the crowd and Lee again silences it.
"Yes. It's true, ADVENT can bring back the dead and control them. Thanks to Luke and Lance we have a book telling us the exact forces we will be facing on the train as well as the cargo. In addition to their undead legion ADVENT is also bringing in components for street scanners that will make our lives extremely difficult, as well as what we believe to be a small number of Psy Sensitive Soldiers they have captured from XCOM. We will be intercepting that train, killing the sectoid commanders, destroying the scanners and rescueing those Psy Soldiers." She pauses and loos down before continuing with less bravado, "If we begin to take heavy casualties out last resort will be to blow up the train station with a high explosive incendiary missile that was created by Watcher, even if it means civilian casualties or the loss of those XCOM on board the train. Any questions before I give out everyones specific assignments?"

Isn't this a world wide war, how many civilians can fit in one train?
Also the loss if some "promising" soldiers who managed to get themselves captured is worth it to keep and established rebel cell in the area rather then go completely blind and leave the area with no useful resistance.
>>
You keep your mouth shut and watch Lee divide the groups into teams of 3 and one team of 4 with Charge as the leader.
Lee approaches you while everyone sorts themselves out and she shakes your hand before saying.
"Lance, I wanted to talk to you. Me and Luke had a discussion and well. You've done good work for us, you led us successfully and I think you're a damn fine agent. The fact you have more to lose than any of us if this goes south ensures that you're going to give 110% So I'm going to let you take a personal squad with you to secure the XCOM Psy operatives. Whoever you don't choose will be another team devoted to taking out the Sectoid commanders and destroying the scanners on board. But I need to know now who you are taking with you, also you dont have to take 3 if you think just you and one or two other people can handle the mission that's fine it'll only give those on the frontline a helping hand." Civilians will be in and around the station. The missile will cause a large fiery explosion and anything in its blast range will not survive.
ADVENT, Also is constantly telling the world that XCOM and its affiliates are terrorists.

"I only need Luke." You say confidently
You see Goldy's face drop slightly while Luke's remains the same neutral face of determination.
"I'm ready when you are." That is all he says, you and Luke go and sharpen your blades and ensure your guns are loaded.
"Feels good to go into something with a plan." Luke says with the hint of a smile playing his lips.
You grunt in agreement as you work your brush through Mathilda's Barrel ensuring the weapon is fully functional for the upcoming fight.
"But we had probably make a plan before we start celebrating it." Luke says as he places a Mimic Beacon down that displays an over head map of the area.
==Planning==
While changes can be made to a plan on the fly, the plan you decide to make will help me write the mission the best I can it will also determine how the mission goes for the front line forces.
=======
"We can either start at any of these three points. With the main force, From the forest a bit behind the train, or from one of the rooftops of a nearby building.
After that we have 3 ways we can plan our infiltration.
We can go loud, it'll be a hard fight and take a while but it will also take pressure off the front lines and leave us clear to come back when we extract the Psy.
We can try to swing above them, this is the fastest way but we will probably catch some attention and we wont really be able to do much dangling from a grappling hook.
We can sneak in on foot. This method will take longer than swinging but be faster than fighting, of course if we get caught we will have a fight on our hands and we could even trigger reinforcements which will make it harder on the guys upfront. Not to mention we will either have to sneak with half a dozen men or fight our way back to the front lines for a safe evac." Luke blazes through all of this but your many times listening to him you manage to catch it all.

Feel free to mix and match plans or even write in your own for the actual infiltration plan. The starting locations are set in stone unfortunately. Overhead map of the area to come shortly.

Start from the rooftop.
We observe from there and wait for the main force to attack before infiltrating the train away from the fighting. Once we find the troops, we will need to assess how many of them are in a suitable condition for combat and either exfiltrate via stealth or push through to the main group accordingly.

It's 5 sectoids controlling a shit ton of zombies. That coupled with the main force should be sufficient distraction. We can sneak right by the main fight and get to the back of the train where the soldiers are likely to be. We'll be on the ground and ready to fire at stragglers, plus have cover in the woods. That coupled with our suit abilities will be more than enough to seize control of that side of the train. If we find the soldiers in the back we can push to the middle of the train. Main force can push through the enemies to the middle of the train. We all meet up and push out to evac

The shot connects and the Sectoid flies back off the train car. You hear panicked shrieking as other Sectoids come crawling from the Station and train itself, the assault force begins to aim when a low whire reveals two cylinders raise from the train and a series of large thuds echo over the plain separating the station and the residential area. Two large robots jump from the cylindrical tubes of the train and hit the ground raising their large weapons. The assault team moves to get in cover behind the occasional rock or tree and as they stand facing off with the ADVENT forces, another unit emerges from the Train. He points to the sectoids, then to the Assault Force and as the sectoids begin shaling mildly a purple glow eminates from their eyes and mouths as the train takes on a low purple glow. A low metal creaking can be heard, it steadily grows louder until it sounds like tearing metal as the side rips open like a cheap can and hordes of palid ashy corpses also with purple eyes come tumbling out over each other and begin a dead sprint towards the assault team.
