>"Well well, what do we have here...?"

You are Avaritia, Princess of Envy, inheritor of the empty Castle Golgoth, not-so-masterful Master of the Wylds, true royalty banished to the starless eternal night of oblivion and you've finally made first contact with humanity.

Introductions had been... rough, but ultimately you'd learned of where you were and more importantly, potentially valuable resources in the form of a Goblin tribe and a selfish witch who'd been run out of the village you'd... visited.

Ultimately you'd decided that, with a magical library full of books and scroll you didn't know what to do with, a witch would be a useful ally.
Maybe.
It remains to be seen.

Speaking of seen, you've been spotted by the very witch you'd been looking for.

Her cave behind the waterfall is dark, lit only by strange, glowing fungus and the unnatural green glow of the pipe she was smoking.
The witch herself is clad in a loose collection of poorly-stitched robes, covering dark skin and decorated with a number of totems and markings whose purpose you couldn't fathom. She breathes a could of now-pink smoke and looks at you with sharp green eyes. Eyes that remind you of the ones your snake-tail possesses. She seems... well, physically at least, older than you.

"And just who are you, /what/ are you, coming into my cave?"

Her voice is husky, probably worn down by her smoking. Maybe. You don't know.
>>
>>76896
But how to best respond...?

>A show of power! You already know that she's treacherous, best to make sure she knows you're powerful!

>Be respectful! You're royalty, after all, it wouldn't do to look like some savage monster.

>Say nothing! Let her make the first move, it might put you at an advantage!

You grit your teeth, showing off a mouthful of fangs, claws outstretched and snake-tail hissing threateningly. Drawing on your Vice Gem, a smokey green aura surrounds you, making yourself seem larger, less physical than you actually were.

But does she buy it...?

>Envy, 30/100

"I'm the Inheritor of Castle Golgoth, Mistress of the Wyld, exiled Princess of Sin! That's who AND what I am, witch! But above all, I'm powerful, and I've come to seek you out..."

The shadows of the cave flicker and shift as your voice seems to fill the space, empowered by your Envy. This woman has knowledge you want and she is NOT in charge here! You are true royalty, it's your right to have a servant like her!

The witch seems to shrink back, those venomous eyes flickering away from you for just a second, but it's enough for you to know she's sensed your power and she is afraid. Just like those villagers. Just like that priestess.

Good.

"I-I, ah, meant no disrespect, your... highness. I'm just not used to company. But forgive my rudeness, my name is Rosemary, and as you've said, I'm a... practitioner of the mystic arts. Would, ah, would you like some tea? I don't have much, but I could make us something while we talk, if that is what you're here to do?" Her voice is shaky, and you can see how she tenses as the shadows of the cave walls drift over her in an unnatural fashion.

>Take her up on the offer, be civilized?

>Reject her offer, tell her why you're here?

>Other Action?

>>

>Take her up on the offer, be civilized?

Your bared teeth shift from a snarl to a grin and you let go of your power, the shadows of the room softening as you straighten up from your primal pose.

"That would be lovely, thank you."

In short amount you're seated at what amounts to be two stumps an a large-ish rock, a poorly cared for cup of tea in your over-sized claws, steaming and smelling sweet.
The witch, Rosemeary, sits across from you on a stump of her own. As you wait, a realization comes to her and she takes a sip first.
Huh, must be trying to reassure you she hadn't poisoned it.
How kind...
Sniffing the drink curiously, you take a cautious sip.
Oh wow!
You go for another sip, only to realize that you'd just drunk the entire cup.

Rosemary seems to have relaxed, a bit. It must be some kind of comfort to her, sitting down and drinking tea, even when her company is the physical embodiment of a sin wrapped in monster parts.

"So, ah, Lady Princess, may I inquire as to the reason for your visit?"

That strained, nervous smile again.

It feels nice to be the one in charge.

What do you tell her?

>You're looking for an ally?

>You need a teacher?

>You want information? (What about?)

"I need a teacher."

THAT gets her attention. Rosemary sets her cup aside on the makeshift table and leans forward, eyes wide as she searches your face for... something.

Okay, now she's starting to weird you out.

"Stop that. What are you doing? Why are you looking at me like that?"

Your sharp reply snaps the witch out of her... whatever she's doing.
"Ah, I'm sorry, Princess. That just isn't what I was expecting. It's not every day someone finds my cave through the wards I set up and simply asks me to teach them, let alone a dem-er, princess."
She recovers from her shock quickly enough, leaning back in her 'seat' and lacing her fingers together.
"If you don't mind my asking, why do you need a teacher? And I'm presuming not because you need help learning how to read."

"Actually, I do, in a way." You get a chuckle out of her confused face.
"Back home there's a library full of old books that I can't read. My caretaker says that without magical training, they at best be useless to me, and at worst they'd be dangerous. That's why. I need you to teach me how to use those books."

Rosemary quircks an elegant eyebrow.
"And why should I do this? What could you offer me?"

>Threaten her into service?

>Help her get revenge on the villagers?

>Promise to bring the books to her to keep, so you can learn together?

It might be risky, you could end up giving her a lot more than you'd meant to, but even if you do you're sure that she believes in that little demonstration you gave her earlier.
Even if you were still feeling drained...

>Envy, 25/100

"How about this. Every book or scroll I bring you, you get to keep? Imagine, a whole library to yourself. The things in my Librarium are old, very old, and with magic, old books mean good things, right?"

The witch seems to consider it, a hand under her chin. She's probably already made her decision, she's just stretching it out to make you worry.
You KNOW she's dragging it out when Rosemary takes a 'thoughtful' sip from her still-warm tea, setting it aside to inspect her nails.
"Hm... very well. I suppose it might be worth my time, princess. But, if I'm going to have a student, I'll be needing a name to call her by, won't I?"
She gives you a smug little grin that make your claws twitch.

"...Avaritia, my name is Avaritia..."

"Well then, Avaritia, why /do/ you wish to learn magic, hm?"

>For power! With your power combined with magic, you could trounce anything in a fight!

>Because she has it, other people might have it, and you want to have it too!

"It's not fair!" You stomp a hoof. "People out there have access to this power, well then I want it too! I don't even care if I never get to use it, I just want to learn, to have it for myself!"

>Envy, 35/100

Rosemary seems taken aback by your response, before she smiles, softer than the smug grin she was sporting earlier.
"You really just want to learn, hm? Well, I suppose a selfish reason is good enough. Very well, Princess Avaritia, you have your teacher. Bring me a book and I'll do my best to teach it to you."

Yes!

You don't bother hiding your grin, pleased to make some progress in this world, even if it's with someone you don't entirely trust.

"Alright, teacher, I'll bring you your book. But I'll need to go back home and get it first"
And that will probably take time, if just getting one from the Librarium is difficult. Plus, a little time to recharge wouldn't hurt.

You both shake on the bargain, equally pleased with the deal, before you stretch and consider what to do next.

Quick question because I'm stupid and couldn't find the answer elsewhere- is having lots of Envy a good thing or a bad thing? I'd presume that considering we're the personification of it, it's a good thing, but...
>>
>>78212
Envy is good! Being in your home dimension recharges your Sin, but committing actions born of Envy will also grant you some, with differing degrees of severity.

You're tempted to seek out the Goblins, but as it stands now, you'll want to be at your best.

Besides, you promised your new teacher a book and the chance to be back home would be nice.

All that leaves is to figure out how to travel back...

Maybe you could force a portal open with your power?

It's worth a shot!

>High Success!

Eyes shut tight, you imagine the world in front of you was a double door, your fingers forcing between the halves and wrenching them open.

The air crackles with your familiar emerald energy, wind sucking forwards through the crack in reality you're slowly opening.

You WANT to go home! You drive that need, that command into your claws and rip your arms in opposite directions, tearing a ragged, man-sized hole in reality.

>30/100

With a triumphant grin, you step through, the world distorting as you re-enter your familiar throne room. Within moments your faithful attendant is at your side, buzzing with questions as you bask in the familiar feeling of your exiled home.

Finally~
