>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

You make sure all your things are packed, Sheik waiting for you outside your house. So, the Spirit Temple, down in Gerudo Desert. There’s a lot you’ll have to focus on when you get there, beyond the Temple itself. The Gerudo may be receptive to you thanks to Aveli’s efforts, but it wouldn’t be wise to let your guard down there in any case. Ah, and then there’s Horon, back with the Gerudo. Might be wise to make sure he’s aware of your change in plans.

Adding to this, you could go shopping before you leave town, you’ve got quite a lot of cash on you, even if you have been saving up for that Hookshot. It shouldn’t be too much trouble to get the rest of it if you work for it, but you’re fairly close now...

A. Sheik, I’m heading in to town to gather some supplies and equipment.

Time to go shopping: we have two empty bottles so at least one Red or Blue potion will help.

Maybe we'll luck out and find Viol in town so we can get the discounted Hookshot.

You turn to Sheik. “I shall go into town this morning to gather supplies, and inform Horon on my decision to travel to the Spirit Temple if possible.”

She bows her head. “Very well, Princess. I will keep close watch.”

“You do not wish to come into town?” you question to the young Sheikah.

She shakes her head. “I... would prefer not to. I shall stay close enough to you to keep watch, Princess, but I have no need to gather any equipment.”

“Do you need me to get anything for you, then?” you ask as you walk towards the town.

“I am suffeciently prepared.” she assures, darting into the trees.

You try to train your hearing onto her as she travels with you, the younger Sheikah girl doing her best to be ever so quiet. Ah, but you’ve spent all those years with Impa, you can recognize a good deal of the tricks Sheik pulls. She’s clever, skilled, but not quite to the level of your attendant. Then again, perhaps it is a good thing; Impa can be frighteningly sneaky when she wants to.

In Kakariko, you head into Madas’ item shop, the old adventurer greeting you with a boisterous welcome. “And if it isn’t one of my favorite customers, how are you this morning, little Termina?”

“Working to prepare for a trip to Gerudo Desert. I’ve gotten some information on the Shadow Temple, and the Spirit Temple would be a good place to hone my skills.” you explain, looking over the place. “Might you have suggestions on things to prepare for?”

Madas rubs his chin. “Spirit Temple. Well, you’d have an easier time getting in there than I would, that’s for sure. I believe a potion or two would be good preparation, let’s see what I’ve stocked up on...” He tells you, checking behind him. “While I’m at it, that Poncho is almost ideal for the climate there. Light, easy to move in, covers much of your body. Heavy armor will heat up quickly, slow you down, and attract sand in places you don’t want it to.”

“...thank you for that, Madas.” you respond dryly.

“Not a joke! Believe me, I’ve had to wash sand out of my-”

“I will keep that in mind for later.” You are going to do your best to keep those mental images away for as long as you can. “What about my shield?”

“The Hylian shield is built well, it’s not too heavy and cumbersome. If you feel like you need a spare wooden one, I’ve got it available.”

Madas finally has a selection for you to choose from. There’s a Red potion, full of cherry-flavored restorative goodness. A Green potion with a strong, magical kick with a strong lime aftertaste. A Blue potion that does a little of both, with some blueberry flavoring to help it go down better. A wooden shield, always good to have a spare. He also has a proper suit of armor, though it’s a bit on the pricy side, but wouldn’t hurt to have for later conflicts.

B. Buy a Blue potion (50 Rupees)

Well, you have two bottles, and you’d rather not have to spend all your money in one place. You buy a red and blue potion pair, filling your bottles up with them.

[Red Potion: Restores 8 Hearts maximum, serving size can be cut in half for 4 each]

[Blue Potion: Restores 4 Hearts and 4 Magic, serving size can be cut in half]

“By the way, Madas, have you seen a merchant in purple in town as of late?” you ask.

“Purple? Huh... now that you mention it, I might have seen someone trading with a Goron merchant last evening, you know the one. Might have already left town by now, though.” he tells you, rubbing his chin contemplatively. “I... think I know the one you’re talking about. Goes by the name of Viol, yes?”

You nod. “I had helped him earlier ensuring a safe trip to Castle Town.”

“Mmn. So you did, huh?” Madas mumbles. “I hear good things about his business. But the more I hear about the guy, the shadier he seems to me.”

“Pardon?”

“Well, he apparently was part of the war. But nobody knows whose side he was on. Any info on his past before the last few years is... sketchy. He doesn’t seem like a dangerous person, but... I’d say he has something he’s trying to hide.” Madas explains, giving a surpicious look in the vague direction of Castle Town. “...I know you have a good head on your shoulders, but always keep your eyes and ears alert. Especially with people like him.”

“I will keep that in mind, Madas.” you reply, giving a respectful nod as you get ready to leave. “Take care.”

So... he might have left already, but there’s probably a Goron merchant in town that could relay your message to Horon. Viol probably hasn’t gone too far though, you recall the time it took you to reach Lon Lon Ranch, and he might be there again. Could try scaling Death Mountain again, or maybe have Sheik deliver the message, if she’s willing...

You exit the shop, and then try to seek out the Goron merchant. He recognizes you, smiling and waving, then apologizing that he doesn’t have any more flowers for sale at the moment. You laugh softly, “No need to apologize, sir. I just wish for you to relay a message to a Hylian boy that’s currently at Goron city, if you would not mind.”

Agreeing to it with a cheerful smile, you explain who Horon is, and your change of plan to go to the Spirit Temple. The Goron doesn’t quite understand all of it, but assures to you that he’ll get the message across. With that out of the way, you leave Kakariko, meeting up with Sheik.

“Princess, have you gotten what you need?” the Sheikah questions of you.

“I have, for the most part. But on our way to the Gerudo Desert, I would like to stop at Lon Lon Ranch to see if I can meet up with someone.” you explain. “Will you come with me?”

Sheik gives you a hesitant look, eyes darting to your bag. “Mm. You intend to travel there quickly.”

The Keaton jolts out of your mask in a yellow flash, swirling leaves moving around the fox-creature’s body, tails swaying rythmically. “Hee-hee-ho! So, child, I see you have a guest with you this time. But you enjoyed the scenic route with Lynna.” its voice chuckles at you in a teasing, but not meanspirited way. “Ah... and it seems you have a very... interesting guest.”

Sheik noticeably gulps when the Keaton turns to acknowledge her. “Keaton. It is an... honor, sir.”

The creature walks between you both, increasing in size. “Do not fear. It is more than the Princess that we have kept our eyes on.” it tells her in a very calm, reassuring voice. “Many a secret is whispered in the winds. We hear all, but until the time calls for it, we are as silent as the air.”

You raise an eyebrow at the Keaton as you hop on its back. Sheik at least seems relieved by that statement, then turns to you. “It... seems I must, Princess.”

You take her hand and help her up. You then face forward. “To Lon Lon Ranch!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKMf5CQmzvs

The Keaton moves like lightning across Hyrule Field, darting back and forth. The wind in your hair, the sheer speed you’re going at, it’s exhilarating! ...and then you notice that Sheik’s arms are holding on to you for dear life. You turn your head to face her, the girl’s eyes glassy and... comically terrified. She seems like she’s trying her best to not fall off the fox creature. And to not curse the cruel fates that conspired to put her in this situation.

About halfway there, however, there seems to be a man riding on horseback that’s noticed you. And he’s gaining speed. Almost like he... is trying to race you?

“Sheik. Let me apologize in advance for this.” you tell the terrified Sheikah girl. “Keaton, let’s go at full speed!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaLfhzGOqaU

You feel Sheik cling to you even tighter as the Keaton starts running even faster. The person on the horse is clearly an experienced rider. No, more than just experienced. It’s like they have almost superhuman reflexes, and the horse with them has the speed and strength of ten.

But Keaton is no mere horse. The fox races ahead of them, and the both of you start to make a game out of it, taking a longer path to Lon Lon Ranch as you make this into a true race. You have Keaton slow momentarily so you can get a good look at the person pursuing you. He... wait, you’ve seen this person before! He’s the one who punched that Pehat! ...and his horse is wearing a helmet almost exactly like his own, right down to the eye-obscuring shaded glass, along with its blue harness and mild decoration.

You lock eyes with the person... a man, in his late 20s, maybe early 30s, then smile. You have Keaton travel at full speed once more, and leave him in the dust. You arrive at Lon Lon Ranch, the both of you having decided to take a lap around the place at top speed, a good few minutes before the other person does. Sheik is still clinging to you, trembling in terror, as the Keaton lays down to help you both get off it.

You step off, helping Sheik stand. She looks to you in mild shock, shaking. “...I... I would rather not do that again any time soon.” she mumbles, Keaton disappearing again into its mask. "The... the ground is still below me, right?"

You smile cheerfully at her. “Do not fear, Sheik, we can take a break and have you rest up after that. I again apologize, but... well, it seems someone gave me a challenge. I had to take it.”

A soft whistle can be heard as the person stops, the horse standing a short distance away from you as the person dismounts. “In all my years, I’ve never seen ANYONE move like that, kiddo. How did you and that... say, where’d your fox thing go?” he asks, looking around. “Ah, doesn’t matter.” He removes his helmet. “Captain Douglas, Miss...?”

“Termina.” you respond, bowing gracefully to him. “I am honored, sir.”

“Well, Miss Termina, just what the heck was that thing? I ask out of curiosity, nobody’s been able to keep up with Falcon here like that, much less outspeed her.”

“My apologies, Captain Douglas, but that is a secret of mine. In time, you may know, but I can’t just say right now.” you tell him with a soft smile. “You understand, don’t you?”

He nods, an inquisitive look across his face. “I can accept that. Though I will say you seemed quite focused on merely riding, you were rather stiff, and your friend there...” He looks to Sheik, herself leaning against the wall outside of Lon Lon Ranch, panting heavily. “...I take it she’s not done much riding, period.”

You give Sheik an apologetic look, rubbing the back of your neck. “Well... my aunt, Yuga, has ridden horses before, but she’s never given me more than basic training with it. We don’t actually own one, so there was little chance to. Mostly she wanted make sure I was well-rounded in being able to take care of myself.”

“I see, I see... well, Miss Termina, there’s more to riding than just transportation.” he states. “Especially with how organized the monsters have gotten as of late. Fighting on horseback... or, in your case, ‘foxback’, could mean life or death in some cases. You might be able to outspeed them, but speed won’t always be what you need to survive.” He crosses his arms and smiles. “I could help you learn how to better defend yourself, if you’re willing to learn.”

>A. Certainly, Captain Douglas

Now that’s enticing. Better combat skills, while riding... ah, if only you weren’t busy at the moment... “I certainly would, but sadly now is not the best time. I wouldn’t mind seeing a quick demonstration, if you are willing.”

Captain Douglas grins and puts his helmet back on, then whistles to his horse. The animal gallops to him, but he stands perfectly still as it picks up speed. You take a step back... then see him jump into the air and flip onto his horse, the beast not even flinching, galloping away. He rides with the horse, moving in a circle, then makes a quick jump of a dismount, landing right in front of you. “That, for example. Knowing how to quickly mount and dismount can keep you in control of a fight, especially when you’re surrounded.”

‘Now that IS impressive.’ Keaton’s voice whispers in your mind. ‘Perhaps after your business with the Spirit Temple, child?’

You give Captain Douglas an impressed look. “I will certainly consider it, sir. And there are more like that?”

“Lots more. That’s one of the more basic techniques to it.” He calls for his horse again, heading in to Lon Lon Ranch. “If you get the chance, try for the races too! Good money, and a good test of your skills!”

“I shall keep that in mind, Captain Douglas!” you reply, waving to him as he leaves. You next turn to Sheik, who seems to have finally recovered from what you put her through. You place your hand on her shoulder gently. “I am truly sorry for that, Sheik.”

“Y-you didn’t know...” she breathes out. “I... I should be the one apologizing, I am better trained than that...”

“Well then, shall we be on our way?” you ask Sheik with a friendly smile.

Very glad to hear that.

As far as Temples go, there are technically 4 more left, but also some other major "events" along with them. Spirit, Shadow, Sky, and Time.

The other major places of interest are at Lake Hylia, Snowpeak, the Gerudo Desert, and the Oktorok Swamp.

Sheik trusts you, but she is concerned over your safety, for a number of reasons. Foremost as a Sheikah, she is sworn to protect you with her life. She's not as experienced as someone as Impa, as mentioned, but no less driven to ensure your safety. She also has some personal reasons for wanting to keep you out of harm's way.

And so far, is there a favorite partner y'all have had? Aveli, Lynna, Horon?

You make your way to the Milk Bar, keeping an eye on the two men as they talk. “Sheik, are you thirsty at all? Wouldn’t hurt to get a drink right now, I’m feeling a little parched myse-”

Sheik’s eyes widen slightly. “I shall retrieve a drink for you at once.”

You sigh softly, looking down. “That’s not what I-” ...and she seems to have vanished. You keep walking in the direction of the Milk Bar, an eye fixed on Viol. Though you’re not really trying to eavesdrop, you can catch some bits of their conversation. Seems to be... something concerning trade routes needing more protection on the way to Lake Hylia. Incease of monster activity, and something keeps spooking the horses used to transport goods from the Ranch to Lake Town.

“As you requested.” Sheik’s voice comes almost out of nowhere behind you, handing you a glass of milk.

Viol seems to have caught notice of you, and finishes his conversation quickly. You hear a guarantee he makes with Talon, something about a... small cannon? Viol then casually walks towards you, smiling. “My my, Termina, one of my favorite customers. What brings you out here again?”

You take the glass of milk. “Thank you for that, Sheik, but... you didn’t have to. I have my own money, after all.”

“My apologies.” she replies, bowing to you.

“Looks like you have a new friend as well, Termina.” Viol notes, looking over the cloaked figure next to you. “Regardless, what brings you back here?”

“You, actually.” you start. “I am curious about a certain item I wish to acquire, and am wondering if you have it for sale.”

He has this... wide, almost smug grin on his face. “Miss Termina, if it isn’t, then I can have it within but a day’s time. What might this item be?”

“A Hookshot. I saw it available down in Gaebora Town, and a friend of mine managed to show me just how valuable it is as a tool. Might you have one for sale?”

Viol contemplatively rubs his chin. “Yeah, that’s about where you’d find it... hrmn. Sadly I don’t have one on me, they’re not exactly common tools. But, like I said, I could have it brought to you within a day!” he declares... then gets this look in his eye. “...standard discount applies, though... I could drop it to 150 Rupees, if you are willing to help me with something.”

150? That’s less than half of what it costs in Gaebora Town! ...there’s a catch to this.

That IS a good deal, but there’s definitely a catch. “That something being...?”

Viol adjusts his tunic slightly. “Monsters have been attacking convoys headed to Lake Town. I’d like to hire you to help ensure the safety of the next one headed there. It shouldn’t take too long, and I know you’re quite skilled, Miss Termina. Standard fare would be 100 Rupees, but since you want that Hookshot, I can just add that to the discount. And again, I guarantee that Hookshot will be in your possession within a day. Sound like a good deal?”

Well... Lake Town isn’t too far away, and it technically is on the way to your eventual destination, not much more of a detour than Lon Lon Ranch is. And sure, it would save you some money, but it might also be a good way to help the people of Hyrule directly. At the very least scare away the monsters that have been attacking the convoys for some time.

Sheik seems to give you a wary look, standing closer to you.

“What monsters have been attacking? The usual Bokoblins and Moblins, or something else?” you question, recalling the rather disturbing encounter you had last night with the Stalfos trying to rise from the ground before sundown.

“Mm, minor groups of Bokoblins, but coordinated by what seemed to be Darknuts. And aided from afar by soldiers that seemed to possess small cannons.” Viol explains. “They would use the cannons to set up ambushes, spook the horses and try to gather people in tight circles. Some get lucky and escape at first sign of trouble, but the attacks happen almost at random. It’s hard to mount defenses against that. I myself can pull some strings to get a mobile cannon to guard the next convoy, but the more help that they have, the better are the chances for success.”

You smile. “I couldn’t agree more, then. I shall agree to this request, Viol.”

“A pleasure doing business with you, Termina.” he says, shaking your hand.

You feel Sheik move closer to you, the girl glaring at Viol suspiciously. “...if you believe this is the correct choice, I shall help as well.”

Viol tugs at his collar. “Ah... so you two are working together. Well, Miss...?”

“I do not ask for payment from you. My mission is linked to Termina’s.” Sheik states bluntly.

The merchant raises an eyebrow, but gives an understanding shrug. “If only I could get help like that more often, I'd have enough money to buy prosperity for all of Hyrule.”

You and Sheik wait out the preparations for the convoy, Romani spotting you and greeting you gleefully. Her eldest sister reminds her to behave around guests, but she does get in another demonstration of her archery skills. Slowly but steadily, she’s improving. The kid seems to have a bit of a talent for that kind of thing.

With the convoy finally readied, five wagons of supplies in total, plus an extra cart carrying a small cannon, you and Sheik make your way towards it. Viol seems to head in the opposite direction, assuring you that he’ll get the Hookshot for you in no time.

You pull out your Crossbow, making sure it is ready to use at a moment’s notice, getting into one of the wagons with Sheik. She sits with you quietly for part of the way... a bit too quietly, for your taste. You give her a friendly smile. “You know, you don’t have to treat me like that.”

She looks up quickly. “P-pardon?”

“What I mean to say is... I’ve been taught how to fend for myself. I do appreciate your help, but I also notice how you’ve been acting. I am not some helpless Princess in a foreign land.” you say in just a quiet enough tone to not catch anyone’s attention.

Sheik tries to hide her face. “I... am truly sorry. I beg you to forgive me for my behavior.”

You sigh louder, then laugh out a smile. “Sheik, that is what I am talking about. I know you haven’t been around me as long as... Auntie Yuga...” you force yourself to say, keeping Impa’s name far from your mind. “But you don’t have to be so formal around me, nor so protective.”

“...you ask difficult things of me, Termina.” she replies quietly, hugging her knees to her chest. “But I will try my best to accomplish them.”

Ah, if only you could talk with her without sound, let your mind directly speak with hers. “Let us start with just trying to get to know some more about each other. Nothing too big, just some small talk, to help ease your worries.”

Sheik tries to relax herself. “I... would not mind that. Just know that just as you have your secrets... I have mine.”

A fair, but interesting statement. Well... you start off with something small. “I know you spend a lot of time training your mind and body, but even Auntie Yuga knew there were times when she needed to unwind. What do you do your downtine, Sheik? What do you find fun?”

The Sheikah girl stares at you like a terrified deer. Of all the things she seemed she had prepared for, that was clearly not one of them. She then hugs her legs to her chest again. “...promise not to laugh?”

Aha, and so the ice starts to break. “I promise.”

Even through the covered face and hooded cloak, you can tell that the girl’s face is bright red from embarrassment. Her voice is almost a hushed whisper, even your ears can’t pick up what she says the first time. And on repeat... “...romance novels.”

You smile kindly at the Sheikah girl. “That’s adorable, but understandable. Do you have a favorite series, or book?”

Her face becomes as red as her eyes as she quickly looks down. She mumbles again, and you ask her to repeat. “There... are a few I rather enjoy. The Maiden of Roam. Ashei’s Rose. Lucina’s Awakening.” She fidgits slightly. “Ah... my true favorite is probably one from Labyrnna, the White Witch.”

You raise an eyebrow at that last one. You are fairly certain you’ve heard of that book series before. Rare in Hyrule, and slightly controversial because of the-

‘As much as I would hate to interrupt some much needed bonding, you should be aware that foes draw closer.’ Keaton’s voice calls to you. You grip your crossbow tighter, smiling at Sheik.

“Well, I wish we could talk some more about that. You seem to have read quite a bit, Sheik. When this is over, maybe we can share some of our collections.” You stand, peeking out the back of the wagon. Squinting hard, you see a few figures in the distance... things in armor, given the noticeable shine, pushing something, keeping pace with the convoy...

“Keaton, let’s take them down!” you command, jumping from the wagon as the Keaton bolts from its mask. You manage to land on its back almost expertly, riding with the giant fox towards your foes. They come into view... a pair of armored Knights, with a Bokoblin entourage carrying powder for the cannon they were about to use against the convoy.

Their shocked reaction makes it clear that they definitely weren’t expecting a sight like this rushing towards them. Keaton lunges at one of the Knights, knocking it over and slashing at it with its tails, you in turn slashing at one of the Bokoblins nearby. Keaton starts to move again, carrying that momentum it got from the lunge and getting away before the other foes can retaliate.

One of the Bokoblins looks like it’s about to throw a spear at you... only to get a pair of throwing daggers in the face. You then set down a Bombchu as the Keaton makes a pass at your foes once more... which travels directly at the powder bag that was being carried. The thunderous BOOM echoes past you, the canon they were about to use completely destroyed.

You travel back to the wagons quickly, Keaton slowing its speed slightly to match the now-frightened horses. You spot Sheik staring at you with amazement. You smile at her, but you know this isn’t the end of it.

Out of the corner of your eye, you spot a Darknut riding what seems to be a gigantic wolf. And it’s gaining on you. Slung under its arm is...

...

It's carrying a cannon of its own!

Thanks boss, see ya
>>
>>752200
To be fair, most of Zelda's rolls have been bonkers.
>>
>>752200
Well the boss was pretty tough. Maybe it will, Impa was keen on us staying away from the Shadow Temple.

Sheik is too cute
>>
>>752185
Glad you got to enjoy it, at least.

I'm honestly surprised myself. I intended that to go a little bit longer, but you rolled high.

>>752200
>>752207
>>752208
>>752209
Thanks for playing!

Dungeons will definitely be harder, this is technically a sidequest. You're just doing even better at it than I thought you would be. Keep this up and you might get more than a Hookshot at the end of it.

And again, glad to see y'all liking Sheik. Honestly I was a little worried when I introduced her that she might seem a bit out of the blue.
>>
>>752216
Nah, you've pretty much been hinting all quest that Zelda would be meeting a bunch of different allies, so it's not like it's a surprise someone new came along after Horon left.
>>
>>752216
Well she was, but we took it in stride. I like that she is earnest and doing her best to fulfill her roll, and her interactions with Zelda have fun, especially whatever Sheik expected us to be like versus what she is getting.
>>
>>752223
>>752229
Honestly, my biggest worry over introducing Sheik is that it would mean people feel a bit cheated out of it, since normally that's a part of Zelda as a character when she appears. I wanted to do this to help differentiate the Zelda you're playing as as "your own" Zelda, if that makes sense. So that while you can get some of the Sheikah skills, later down the line, y'all wouldn't feel like you "have" to, as a Zelda. There are some other reasons too, but we'll get to them when we get to them.

Hearing that this is working out is a relief to me, and means I can work a good dynamic out of this.
>>
>>752237
Yeah, she's nice being a distinct character
>>
>>752243
I agree with this anon, Sheik is fun and adorable as her own character. Wonder how she'll do when we get to the Gerudo Desert and meet Aveli again, since she knows our secret too.

Hey Kato, I don't know if you've noticed this, but I've seen this trend for the last few weeks of someone downvoting your threads on the archives at random. Usually seems to happen on Wednesdays too. I bring this up because it really does seem to be random threads, starting with your most recent ones and then hopping all over the place spamming downvotes.

You have Keaton keep up its speed, taking aim with your Crossbow. The Darknut rider seems to respond by steadying the cannon they wield, taking aim at you directly. At the last possible moment, you and Keaton move out of the way, dodging the blast and returning fire with a Crossbow bolt, right in that thing’s eye!

It almost loses grip of its cannon, the wolf it’s riding on slowing slightly as you fire another bolt at it, getting it right between the armor plates in one of its arms. Desperately, the monster tries to reload its cannon, untying a bag of powder by mouth and steadying it with its still working arm.

You have Keaton strafe as you take aim once more with your crossbow. You focus your sights on the Darknut once more... and THERE! The bolt lands right in the monster’s other eye, blinding it completely. You then gather your Magic, a ball of flame building up in your hand, and fling it at the monster! It catches the powder in its hands as it explodes, amplifying it even more as it engulfs the creature and its mount. It’s gone, for good, this time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeJOTgIVHDk

[Crossbow: 7/10 Bolts]
[Magic: 4/5]

You head back to Sheik, who herself has successfully fended off a group of Bokoblins from the wagon. You have Keaton slow its movement and enter, the fox returning to its mask once you’re inside. “Looks like that was the last of it.” you tell her, sighing in relief.

“If nothing else, that display will cause them pause before they try another round like that.” she comments, sighing as well.

You move towards the front of the wagon, calling to the drivers ahead of you. “Does anyone have any injuries? We think the worst of it is over, for now.”

“Horses are spooked, but they’re calming down. That was some nice work back there, Miss! Horon has quite an eye for talent.” the driver ahead shouts back.

You sit back in the wagon. Let’s hope that really IS the worst of it. Sheik sits quietly as you rest. Heart’s still racing a bit from that excitement, should get what relaxation you can in. You spot the Sheikah girl looking out back for quite some time as the wagons move across the landscape.

“...there must be another reason you took this job.” Sheik comments, finally looking back at you. “It’s more than just the Hookshot Horon promised you, right?”

“Viol, Sheik.” you correct her, chuckling softly. Though... thinking about it, they DO share quite the resemblance...

“I-I meant that!” she blurts out, hiding her face once more. “But... really, why did you go along with this?”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAVn71rNImI

“I do it for Hyrule’s sake foremost.” you tell her, sitting up. “The monsters are getting more aggressive, more bold, more cunning. If there’s even the slightest thing I can do to help the people of Hyrule stay one step ahead of them while I complete these trials... I will do everything within my power to help them. Every little bit counts; this convoy for example, by helping ensure the supplies it has end up at Lake Town, it means both that more people have confidence in routes like this, and that they can be better prepared in case troubles come closer to home. I...” You look out the other side of the wagon. “...I remember what we went through during the war. How many people suffered because of it. I’ll do everything I can to pervent something worse.”

Your ear catches the sound of... sniffling? You quickly look back to Sheik, the girl still hiding her face. Sheik mumbles out, as far as you can tell, “You’re truly noble... far more than he was...”

“Sheik? Something wrong?”

She quickly rubs her eyes. “It is nothing, my apologies.” She turns back to you, a much softer look from her eyes fixed on you. “Hyrule needs someone like you.”

“I admittedly am only one girl.” you quickly comment, just to make sure any suspicion is drawn away. “Hyrule needs many people... brave people, courageous, wise, and strong. The most I can do on my own is to help bring them together.”

The ride gets quiet again for a short distance, and you bring up the conversation you were having earlier with Sheik, the novels she likes to read. You have at least read Ashei’s Rose, the tale of a brave young warrior from generations’ past, and the rose in a book that would change her fate... ah, supposedly inspired by true events, but “inspired” is probably putting it lightly.

You and Sheik start to notice the wind pick up outside... though you’re not sure how it would. The weather isn’t due for any storms. A strong gust of wind causes the wagons to shake, and... suddenly it’s as if a gigantic shadow has covered the area. You instinctively hold your crossbow tight. You’re too close to have trouble return now.

You take a look outside cautiously. There’s... nothing on the ground, at least, but when you look up... Goddesses. The size of this creature in the skies... it’s a dragon, almost as big as an entire castle, soaring high above you. Its serpentine body seems to slither in the air as its massive wings glide it across the skies.

Sheik stares up at it in amazement. “You... you don’t think it’s after the convoy, right?”

You watch as it flies, not picking up speed, but not slowing down either. It seems to be trailing you... observing, maybe. It doesn’t try to descend, but it sure is starting to spook the horses. The carts move along faster, the driver letting out a surprised grunt as he feels the jolt of speed.

>A. Watch the creature, do not attack it
>B. Warn the driver, it could be hostile!
>C. Take aim with your crossbow! If it gets any closer, shoot it!

I'll support attempting to diplomance the dragon.

Might as well. Perhaps we can get him to back off, or perhaps there is another job that could be had.

You look to the dragon calmly. You’ve heard stories about them before, how they can be wise and understanding creatures... but seeing one even from as far away as you are from it would terrify most people. You try to focus yourself, then speak to the dragon, “We wish you no harm. We merely bring what is needed for the people of Lake Town.”

Sheik stares at you like you’ve started talking to a field of grass. But in the skies above... the dragon seems to back away, slowing its flight as the horses gallop faster. You then feel... a warmth in your hand, your eyes blurring for a moment as what feels like thunder echoes inside your head. ‘DANGER COMES TO THIS LAND. THE DESERT WINDS TURN BLACK, FILLED WITH DECAY. THE HARBINGER OF DEATH WILL RISE AS THE SUN SETS.’

You hold your head in your hand. “H-harbinger... of... what...?”

‘SLAY THE HARBINGER. BRING ITS FACE TO THE LAKE’S MOUNTAIN. DO NOT DELAY.’

You fall back as the dragon seems to speed away, leaving you far behind. Sheik catches quickly, panic in her eyes. “W-what was that?! Are you all right?”

Your mind is in a haze... agh... how did it do that? But... it seems the message was clear enough. “S-sundown... ahg... we have until sundown. We have to get to the Gerudo Desert by sundown.” Though... face? You look out of the wagon once more. It’s not quite evening just yet, but unless you budget your time wisely, you might not make it to Gerudo Desert in time...

“Here we are! And not a moment too soon!” the voice of the driver announces to you in relief, the wagons slowing. You and Sheik exit the convoy, heading to greet the driver. He takes a look at the wagons, one after the other, as you spot the entrace to the lakeside village. In the distance... ah, Mount Hylia. Wait... is that where the dragon went?

“Hmm! Not a scratch on them! And save that last scare, you two ensured a smooth journey.”

“I am glad to have been able to help.” you tell the driver.

“You were more than just help! In fact... hrm. Well, I only have one of these-”

“I wish no payment.” Sheik tells him. “She was the one who ensured your convoy’s safety, truth be told.”

“Modest girl, are ya?” he laughs. “Okay, just a moment...” You watch as he opens up a compartment underneath the middle wagon... and presents you with a [Piece of Heart]!

Perfect! Just what you needed!

“If you two are going to stay in town, I could recommend some places that might be worth your time, at least until Viol shows up.” the portly man comments, rubbing his chin.

>A. Thank the driver, but let him know you can’t stay for long; tell Viol you will be at Gerudo Desert by sundown

“I thank you, but sadly we can not stay for long. If it wouldn’t be too much trouble, could you pass on a message to Viol? We will be traveling to the Gerudo Desert, and should be there before sundown.”

The driver nods. “Ah, then rest assured, I’ll let him know. Though... that’s quite a place to be traveling to. Mind me asking why?”

“It was our goal from the start, but it seems we have to hurry along. Thank you for the gift you’ve given, and take care.” You and Sheik start to head off.

Keaton appears out of its mask, walking with you both for a moment. ‘Ah, that grump never was one for conversation.’

You turn to the fox. “You know him, Keaton?”

‘I know many things, child.’ it responds, growing in size once more. ‘Though it seems that he still has his old habits. Never really tries to get to know people, always straight to business. Though I cannot blame him, in this situation.’

“What do you know about it?” Sheik asks, waiting for you to get on before she hesitantly follows after you.

‘Hee-hee-ho! Oh, that he was not always the only dragon in Hyrule.’ the Keaton responds, chuckling softly.

You start to connect the dots. “...there is another, and that is what he’s worried about. No... WAS another.” That... oh no.

The Keaton chuckles once more. ‘Clever child. Shall we be off?’

“There’s no time to waste!” you state, readying yourself. Sheik holds her arms around your waist as the Keaton starts to run, darting back on to Hyrule Field.

Sheik seems to be doing better this time around, though she’s still clearly not at all enjoying the speed Keaton travels at. Still, she tries to make the best of it. “Princess... what exactly is it the dragon told you?”

“That a ‘harbinger of death’ will rise at sundown. And based on what Keaton just told us, that being is another dragon... or was one.” you explain, the grass getting more and more sparse as the Keaton heads west.

You notice her arms hold tighter. “It... you really think such a thing is out there?”

“Goddesses do I hope I’m wrong.” you reply, the Keaton heading into a valley. You come across a small canyon with... the bridge connecting both sides out. For a moment you aren’t sure you’d make the jump... but Keaton alleviates those fears easily by clearing it with minimal effort. Though the jump it makes does seem to terrify Sheik further.

Finally, the fox slows, allowing you and Sheik to dismount. You help the Sheikah girl stand, her legs still trembling. She thanks you... then stands before you defensively. A pair of Gerudo women are up ahead. “Stay where you are and state your business here!”

“I am Termina, ally of Aveli. I come to the Gerudo in peace, and to your aid.” you respond, standing calm but focused as you spot the two women walk closer.

“We did not call for any aid.” one of them replies bluntly. You see the grip on her spear tighten.

“But your name is familiar, ‘Termina,’ as is the name of our young sister. We ask again, what is your business here?” the other asks of you, a stronger sense of curiosity in her voice.

“A darkness comes to your land and to lands beyond. I wish to stop this threat to your people.” You approach calmly, letting Sheik ease herself a bit. “Monsters wish the return of the Demon King. I can attest to this personally, and Aveli can substantiate my claims. I come here now to offer my aid.”

“And who is the cloaked figure with you? We don’t care much for those who hide themselves like that.” the more agitated one questions, pointing her spear at Sheik.

“I am but an ally to Termina.” Sheik states. “I will remove any weapons in my possession if you need me to.”

The two give her a curious look. “...you say such things, in front of Gerudo. But to do so is a false claim; you can not remove all your weapons, for your body is one.”

Sheik looks mildly shocked by that claim. “While that may be true, I too wish no harm upon your people. I am more shield than blade.”

The two Gerudo women look at each other, then nod. “Very well... Termina and ally, you may come.”

You and Sheik sigh in relief, giving a slightly more casual walk with the two Gerudo as you enter the desert proper. You do take a moment to look back, then bring up... the obvious question. “...is there a reason your bridge is out? I ask because it was more than a little difficult getting here without some help.”

One of them stops for a moment, and you can hear her mumble “Again?” under her breath. She looks at you with a sharp eye. “Help, you say?”

You tilt your head, pointing to Sheik for a moment. “The question still stands.”

“Hmnh. Then we may have even more reason to believe your claim, Termina.” she says, looking forward again. “It seems that some creatures are up to their old tricks.”

“‘Old tricks?’” you repeat. Now there’s a curious comment.

“It happened before, many times. Removing that bridge... bah, I bet it’s that bastard flame again.” she grunts out gruffly.

...and this isn’t making any more sense to you. “Forgive me, but I am unfamiliar with any ‘bastard flames.’”

“A warrior cloaked if fire, dances around like some annoying asshole and does things like that to annoy us, always trying to bring out a new challenger.” She grips her spear tighter, a manic grin appearing on her face. “Oh I’ll get him this time.”

The other Gerudo hangs her head, giving you an apologetic look. Finally, you spot before you the Gerudo’s stronghold, their main city. And looks like you’ve got time to spare, though it is evening. You better make your point quick, Hyrule's depending on it...

All right folks, that's it for this thread. I’ll be around for questions and such, like usual. Did y’all have fun with this thread? Would y’all like to do a longer thread like this again?
>>
>>755616
Thanks for running, the side quest was fun but that dragon was kind of ominous which is nice since we have been doing dungeons leisurely or without haste. This gives us a reason to move quickly. Honestly I'm a little excited.
>>
>>755616
Thanks for running! Yeah, with the new post limit and the slower board longer threads work pretty well.

Katon, just hold are you?
Termina, would you marry the hero in green if he returns and for some reason is your age or older?
Sheik, are you one of the king daughters?

It was a fun thread.

I had a lot of fun, Kato, thanks for running. Would love to see longer threads like this again.

Thanks for playing! And glad to hear, I'll try to do this again soon.

Also I do plan to have the Spirit Temple be more of a challenge than before, hope y'all enjoy it.

>>755645
Horon may or may not have a fear of Gerudo women.

>>755643
Keaton has possibly met multiple previous Links.

Sheik would refuse to answer and just sort of stare angrily. For you have just called her a bastard.

And I'd like to know your thoughts on this, how do y'all feel Zelda thinks of the Hero? Or anyone else, for that matter. I have my own opinions, but I'd like to hear yours first.
>>
>>755749
well, i'd say she sees the Hero as an idealized concept of a person, as hero's tend to be, but with a streak of cynicism born from the practical nature she's shown so far. She realizes that ideals and courage alone aren't enough to save everyone, careful consideration and the power to back up your decisions are just as important.
fuck, i'm rambling... time for bed.
>>
>>755749
>>
>>755749
I'd mostly agree with >>755799
I don't think Zelda has any feelings for any kind of hero and wouldn't just develop feelings for one out of the blue. She does have some lingering regrets, maybe, for the hero who died ensuring she'd escape the fall of Hyrule, but nothing romantic.

Also Lynna is best girl.
>>
>>755749
How the heck are the gerudos gonna steal, uh, I mean woo boyfriends with the bridge down?

Seems like an issue, also how do the Sheika and Gerudo feel about eachother? Being warrior peoples
>>
>>755942
Oh shit, that's probably why that one Gerudo was mad about the bridge being out. And if Horon was the one who burned it down last time, it's probably WHY she's so mad.
>>
>>754627

>“I admittedly am only one girl.” you quickly comment, just to make sure any suspicion is drawn away. “Hyrule needs many people... brave people, courageous, wise, and strong. The most I can do on my own is to help bring them together.”

Wonderfully written. When I read this, I immediately heard Marlon Brando saying, "they could be a great people Zelda, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way."

I do agree quite a bit with these statements, based on how you've reacted to situations thus far. Very interesting.

>>755942
Sheikah are for the most part not hostile to the Gerudo, though there has been bad blood a few times in generations past. Currently, the Sheikah respect the Gerudo a good amount, while the Gerudo are generally wary of the Sheikah, but not actively hostile. Their approaches to warfare are quite different for the most part, but some Gerudo find the Sheikah skills at stealth and subterfuge to be very useful in some situations.

>>757556
That is a very flattering comparison, anon. Thank you.
