>This story takes place near the very beginning of the events that take place in XCOM II
It was many years ago when you witnessed ADVENT troopers drop into the camp you had called home in your 9 years of life. You lived with your mother, father and older brother along with many other families in a resistance camp enjoying the outdoors and playing with your friends and brother while your mother worked in the medical tent, taking care of any wounds recieved while hunting or from the rare survivor who stumbled across an advent patrol. Your father worked in the small engineering building keeping the radio tower up and operational and expirimenting with robotics. Life was simple and you had no true idea of what ADVENT was or the threat they posed to mankind. You remember those times fondly, you miss your life in...

The United States, once a shining light of freedom in a fog of oppresion has now become another ADVENT center for dominating the earth.
You grew up in a camp outside of Seattle, Washington. Well, what was once Seattle, Washington. You spent your days without care never truly realizing the threat, until the threat made it's way to you.
You woke up in your bed, dad had built it for your 7th birthday, smoke burnt your nostrils as a yellow flash of energy flew over your head burning through the fabric of your tent. Terrified you rolled out of bed and onto the floor scrambling to get to the tent flap leading outside. Moving to the entrance of the tent you poke your head out into complete chaos.
Smoke poured from the broken generators, bodies littered the camp around the radio terminal, and most of the tents were ablaze giving the camp an orange tint. The sound of gunshots and laser fire were the only things you could hear besides the occasional scream or yelling in a language you didn't know. You jumped to your feet and ran to find anyone you could, you passed through the center of camp heading for dad's engineering building since mom's tent was burning brightly and your brother wasn't in bed. You sprinted getting closer to the door before grabbing the knob and flinging it open slipling inside, there you found someone. The only other survivor.
It was...

Your brother, James is crouched in the corner pushing on your mothers stomach. Blood is leaking between his fingers and becoming a puddle beneath her.
"J-James!?" You scream, terrified
"Shh Honey, dont be too loud." your mother coos weakly
"Mom..mom are you okay?" You manage to choke out between the tears
"Yes honey..of course. James..baby..please stop" she says as she strokes James' face, he is equally distraught.
"But mom..you're gonna..I cant just.." as he says this your mither again gently touches his face.
"Promise me you'll keep your brother safe? As cliché as that seems." She says
Your brother chuckles at this and your mom reaches under dads console pulling a switch that reveals a small speaker with a button. She presses the button and weakly utters "Bellator in Machina" and drops her hand limply.
You hear a loud whirring and see a tube in the center of the floor rise, lifting the tiles with it.
"Get in boys." She says
The whirring had drawn attention, you hear the sound of yelling outside and multiple footsteps approaching the front of the building.
"Mom we cant leave you..you'll die" you say breathless from crying
"She knows.." says James his hand on your shoulder.
"She's sacrificing herself so we get out safe. Isn't that right mom?" He continues
She can only nod weakly
Your brother directs you to the tube and your mother weakly waves as it slowly begins lowering, the door is being slammed into, slightly bending. Right as the last sliver of light is almost gone you hear a massive crash and see a Muton standing in the hole that was once a door.
You and James survived.
>>
Your brother and yourself managed to survive in your fathers robotics lab beneath the building. A few days later you heard the engines if a ship you knew well, the Avenger.
The elevator opened and you heard the voice of a gruff sounding english man, "Preston, ya down here mate?" At hearing your father's name you and your brother rush forward and are taken into the car of XCOM.

==Now we will be doing a time skip to adulthood. I will give you choices of how to spend your time during the next couple years, this will determine your skillset and how you start your story.==

James and Lance Hardwood. The names of you and your brother are typed into the computer and saved.
You are being relocated to a new colony, outside of Philadelphia, well at least you are. Your brother had a talk with Braddick the entire flight over and somehow convinced him to let him join the XCOM program as a soldier. He would train until he was 18 then join officially. You however were deemed too young for even training and was left at the new colony, James hughed you tight telling you this was the best way he could keep you safe.
That was the last time you saw James. You were disappointed XCOM had rejected you but soon found another calling and began learning to be a...

You decide to follow in your mother's footsteps. You had already spent most of the days at her clinic anyways so continued education in medicine only made sense. You spent your days pouring over medical texts and watching Doctor Brian Luther treat a varity of injuries. Eventually the people in camp came to refer to you as Dr. Lance.

You spent your spare time creeping around the camp or around the edges of the Advent controlled Philadelphia. You mastered concealing yourself in shadow or even in just a disguise. You eavsdropped and gathered any intel you could even if it was unimportant.

You wake up in your cot, muscles slightly sore from the night before. You sit up and stretch before grabbing a pair of socks from your small plastic drawer you slip them on to protect them from the chill of the January morning, it's almost the new year and also almost your 21st birthday. You slid into your boots and step out of bed, your chest feeling the prickle of cold. You slid on a black t-shirt and your white medical coat, before exiting your tent. Your face itches slightly from the stubble you've neglected these past couple days, birthdays are always hard without James.

"Cleanliness is next to godliness" you say to yourself as you head to the shower. You walk in and the residual steam in the bathroom clings to your skin. You pick up a folded towel from the closet and hang your clothes in a locker before climbing into the shower stall and letting the warm water wash over you and think about an equally hot cup of coffee and some eggs for breakfast. You hear the door to the building.
"Doctor Lance?" The voice calls out
"That's me, what's up?" You say turning off the water and reaching around the closed stall door for a towel.
"There's a message on the comms for you." He says, you can no see it's Lucas the camp messenger of sorts.
"What's the subject line?" You ask, trying to guage it's importance and that it's not another "Sectoid Prince" who has a massive stash of credits and he needs YOUR help to claim them.
"It just says 'James'" says Lucas shrugging.
Must be your birthday message since it's tomorrow. You consider reading it now but your stomach growls.

You hurry and dress quickly do to your excitement. Any message from James is always full of his recent adventures and talk of XCOM and his squadmates. Last year when James sent a comm message he was a Captain and ranger in his squad, you're excited to learm of what he's been up to. You make your way through camp making sure to grab a hot cup of coffee from the mess hall and heading straight to the central comm tower. You take a sip of your coffee and punch in your credentials tapping the mail icon. Oddly enough it isn't from James XCOM credential number. It's the number #2 only while James' is #1228.
The message reads thusly:
"Dear, Lance
You, being the listed emergency contact, are recieving this message to inform you that Cpt.Hardwood has been captured by enemy forces. XCOM offers their sincere condolences and pledges to attempt to reclaim Cpl.Hardwood at whatever costs. If you have any problems or wish for more information please contact Cred Number #9110.
Thank you."
You drop your mug and your hands begin shaking violently as tears well in your eyes. You steady yourself on the console and through the blur of your watery eyes you can only see "captured by enemy forces."

"I need to know about my brother, Captain James Hardwood." You say panicked

"Oh..oh my. It appears he was..captured, from the report he was behind a car when an ADVENT stun lancer came from behind and knocked him unconcious. They killed another of his squadmates and the team was forced to withdraw." She says sadly
"I...I need to talk to Braddford. I need to get on the Avenger." You say starting to grow angry

You decide to go into the city. Maybe some of your contacts will have information, maybe it'll be good to be occupied with nit getting caught so you aren't thinking of your brother.
You put on jeans, light grey sneakers and white tshirt with a dark grey jacket. You also sport your baseball cap with the ADVENT logo in bold white on the front.
You have a car stored in the woods to the north that you use for transporting goods or camp operatives from inside the city, you start it up and get on the road. You pull up to the checkpoint and see a member of ADVENT manning the booth. This one was actually human. Advent forces were deployed jandling bugger threats leaving their cities a little shortstaffed so Human reserves were brought in. You stop and he speaks to you.
"ADVENT ID card and retinal scan please." He says
You pop the glove box and remove the small metal card and hand it to him while leaning into the retinal scanner. Both machines beep, and the blockade lowers while you pass.
You drive the road for a while before coming to a stop in a parking structure. You sit in the car and womder what your next move is.

You could use a stiff drink after getting the news about James. You head to "The Tipsy Shiv" and walk in immediately heading to the bar and taking a seat on a stool. You order a whiskey neat and use your ADVENT credit chip to pay, you sit at the bar snacking on peanuts while you wait for your drinks. You notice a lady on your left, she has blonde hair and dark lipstick. She wears a forest green sweater, black skirt and leggings. There is also a man on your right, he is wearing a white button up and black slacks covered mostly by a tan trench coat. Upon closer examination you see a tattoo that somewhat resembles the XCOM sigil.

You decide it's best to remain unknown, so you simply wait for your drink without saying a word. A few moments later the bartender comes up to you with a fresh bottle of whiskey and fills your glass before nodding and going back to cleaning. You sip the whiskey, it burns your throat and seems to dry out everything it touches in your mouth but the warm glow you feel inside your belly from it is too comforting to give up. You take time sipping your drink in no rush just trying to get a grip on yourself. You finish your first drink and request another Whiskey and some water, the waiter pours your drink and gets you a tall glass of water. Shortly after you begin working on the second drink the woman gets up and leaves the bar. While the man ask for another drink, he points out the particular bottle on the shelf and you can see he definitely has an XCOM Sigil tattooed on his forearm only slightly concealed by his bunched sleeves.

You sutmble over your words trying to think if something to say.
"That look like somd good booze." You say pointing to the spiced rum he selected off the wall "Can I ask how you got the taste for that stuff? I could never really do it."
You spend a couple minutes discussing different types of liquor and even share a craft beer. You get up and say your goodbyes as he leaves the bar and you follow closely behind shaking slightly. You turn the corner into an alley way and double over breathing raggedly, you could have been arrested or worse if he looked more into your ADVENT ID or even the Credit Chip. You're proud of yourself for getting out of that though. You stand in the alley and get out a crumpled pack of cigarettes from your back pocket, pulling out the slightly wrinkled white stick you pop it in your mouth and light it up to relax a little.

You decide you've spent enough time getting cozy in the city. A while back your camp was approached by a woman named Lee claiming to be an operative for XCOM. She knew the passcodes to get into your comms and the secret phrases to get her all the way to speaking with Shen. She informed your camp she was with the Urban Resistance Outfit of XCOM, a small group that gathered information for XCOM and raised general hell to make it hard on the aliens. She did mention if anyone wanted to join up they just had to reach her apartment and she'd have a talk with them to see if they fit.
You see no better way to spend time while waiting for the Avenger, causing the aliens some panic and collecting intel may lead to something that'll force the Avenger to come by.

You make your way through the city not looking anyone in the eyes and keeping your hat tilted down. Eventually you come to a tenement, an old brick building with busted windows and wooden panels over the bottom floors side doors, following her instructions from camp you open the 4A mailbox and slide thte false back panel revealing a keypad. 2007 you punch in the code and you hear the bolt in the door click. It is now unlocked.
You enter the dusty tenement and enter the elevator that is permanently cracked open with caution tape over the front. You press the 3rd floor button, then the 1st floor button then the 4th floor button and finally opem the emergency phone in the elevator, which actually has no phone just a hanging chord, and press down the reciever before the elevator begins silently descending.
>>
The doors slide open and you stare down the barrel of a revolver.
"Woah, calm down. I'm from the camp!" You shout outting your hands up
Without a word the African man holding you at gun point begins squishing your face with his free hand before testing the elasticity of your cheeks. He lowers the gun.
"He's no faceless." He says with a rich Ugandan accent
You lower your hands and rub your sore cheeks before exiting the elevator, only to be stopped by a hand on your chest and the Ugandan points to a black tinted glass office overseeing the messy room. You look around as you head upstairs, the base seems to be more of a hangout than a military outpost, it's decorated with posters saying "I want to believe and its dirty couches are covered in empty ADVENT burger wrappers, while paper coffee cups litter the floor.
You climb the metal stair case and push open the door to see Lee behind a desk looking over a 3D map of the city, smoking a cigarette and drinking a Shard Energy Drink.
"Take a seat kid I remember you from the camp." She says without looking up
You dont answer, simply sit down in an ancient wooden chair that feels ready to break any moment.
You wait a few more minutes as she finishes her cigarette and disposes of the butt in the Shard can.
"You looking to join up with the U.R.?" She asks simply eyeing you up and down
>No, I'm just here for intel then I'm gone.

"How about this?" She starts again "If you can fix up our boy 'Charge' we will see about a position."
You consider the deal and nod
"Sounds fair." You say

Lee motions for you to follow amd you do.
Going back into the dirty lobby she opens the door into what used to be a rec room. Laying on a pool table with makeshift bandages around his Bicep is who you assume to be 'Charge' he has a small green liberty spike haircut, a buttoned denim vest and some torn jeans. His arm looks badly infected. Lee hands you a plastic bag full of random objects along with a sharp pocket knife and a blowtorch.
"Get to work doc."

You sigh and continue looking through the bag for anything useful and find only three things: A pair of scissors, some guaze, and hydrogen peroxide.
You look down at the man in front of you, remove his bandages, and begin your examination. It appears he took a nasty shot to the arm, lacerations, burns and bits of metallic debris in the wound. The blood is dried and the wound has scabbed over in certain places, but yiu can tell by the pus leaking from some of the still open wounds that infection is about to set in badly. Hopefully the booze from earlier helps to steady your hands. You ask for a small ton cup and use the blowtorch to boil water and sterilize the scissors. These will make decent replacements for forceps and you begin removing debris from the wound. A chorus of Ouch, Fuck, and What the hell as you repeatedly accidentally stab into the raw wound start to make people a little nervous.
"I thought you said you were a doctor?' Lee says
"He's bleeding more now than he was before!" Says the Ugandan
You snap back at them
"Can you shut up and let me work?" You wipe your brow and steady your hands once more. You only have one more shot at this or they'll think you were lying.

You steady your hands again and attempt the surgery one last time. It goes off without a hitch. You remove all shrapnel from Charge and pop his pus blisters to reduce chance of infection. You disinfect his remaining open wounds with the peroxide, he takes it silently.
"You handled that well, this is gonna burn a little more." You say as you spark the blowtorch and use it for glancing burns to cauterize any still open wounds, you finish off by giving him a new bandage and some bandaids. He'll make a full recovery.
"Good work Doc." Lee says crossing her arms before continuing "Looks like I do have use for you in my little organization."
"Remember, this is only temporary. My brother was captured by ADVENT the sooner I can find intel that will bring the avenger here the sooner I'm gone." You say wiping the blood and pus onto a towel.
Lee furrows her brow and frowns
"I'm sorry about your brother but..I dont have any intel or even leads on where to find something the Avenger would be interested in."
"Then I'll stay and help you find a lead." You reply giving her a look of determination
"Well I do have 3 squads that can use the assistance." She motions to a board behind you labelled "ROSTER"
You look at the board and back to Lee
"Tell me about these squads."
>>
"We have the Hellraisers, these are our frontline guys. They firebomb ADVENT checkpoints, ambush their motorcades in the city, we take out any alien we can and protect the people in our section of the city, the west side from more than just ADVENT. They keep ADVENT on their toes and the defensive.
Then we have The Hares, our messengers. They run packages and messages all across the city. If another section of the city is really in deep then you send a messenger for help.
Finally we have The Shadows, our stealth squadron, The Shadows break into ADVENT offices to get records on who they know is XCOM, they sabotage the cameras and scanners so hellraisers can do what they do, they find out who needs messages really and whos a faceless waiting to twist off a Hares head like a bottlecap.
Those are the 3 components to our operation. Strength, Communication, and Knowledge. Any strike your fancy?"

You start heading for the door but the mention of Charge reminds you of your obligations as a doctor.
"Lee! Will I be able to go back to my camp during my work with you? I have patients to look over." You ask obviously distressed
She look at you and frowns
"That's up to Luke but since your joining up with Shadows he may not approve that since it causes a lot of attention. It woukd be hard to convince him but not impossible. I have to get back to planning though so go ahead and talk to Luke." She says walking away
>>
You still have more questions but you figure you'll save them for Luke. Heading back to the elevator you repeat the steps you did before and it rises back up. You go up the stairs until you reach the top floor and see a double set of doors and knock.
"Who the fuck is it now?" A rough australian man says on the other side.
"Lee sent me." you reply quietly
There is silence then the sound of a click and the sound of the door being unlocked. The door opens and a short haired blonde man with a toothpick in his mouth opens the door. He wears black rimmed reading glasses and appears to have not shaved in a couple days. You walk in and notice a shotgun wired to the door knob, that must have been the first click.
"I'm Luke, and you are." He says abruptly
"Lance Hardwood" you say extending your hand
"Great I get a fuckin pornstar for my new recruit." He says spitting out the soggy toothpick and putting a new one in.
"Look kid I'm sure you have tons of questions but keep it to yourself for a second. First thing first I'm sending you on a mission immediately because I need to see if you're atleast worth anything to me as an agent." He speaks a mile a minute and you struggle to follow
"I'm not a patient man when it comes to my operatives, so here's the deal. ADVENT is having some sort of corination for the new Mayor of the city, Hellraisers want to disrupt it but before we can do that we need to know where, when and the security they'll have." He continues rambling quickly
You stare at him struggling to find the words to respond to this odd man

"I trust you'll be able to get in without me spelling it out for you, good luck." He says before waving you off
You exit to building and check the address it's no more than a 20 minute walk. While you walk you plan how you'll manage to get in and get the files.

You wish Luke hadn't sent you out without giving you a weapon but you guess it's probably because he wants to see how stealthy you are not how good of a shot you have. "We closin up man you have to leave." Says the barrista
You mumble an apology and step out of the shop before being jolted awake by the freezing air. The dull red glow of a scanner being your only companion on the street you make your way to the building. Pressed against the crimson metal exterior you are glad you decided to put on dark clothes as a disguise. You make your way to the back of the building and to the loading bay doors. Luke is not a man you keep waiting. This much you determined after your first encounter, you tell Charge you'll catch up with him later and head to your pile of dirty clothes before remembering you already left the files with him upstairs. You get back to the elevator and head up. You carefully step into the lobby, in case any sort of scouting party or security force is looking for you, without soending too much time in the lobby you jog up the 3 floors and turn the corner to see. A window. Where the doors once were there is now a window, you step forward confused and stare out the window before reaching out and touching it. The whole image shudders and then cuts off as the door is thrown open and Luke stands there wearing a green button up short sleeve shirt and cargo pants.
"You investigatory twit." He says
Before kneeling down and fiddling with a small metallic ball hidden in a dead plant.
"Took me forever to set up that image of a window on this mimic beacon, it's only meant for an imitation person but a few weeks and mate I can make it display anything." He smiles like a madman as he rattles all this off before looking up and seeming to see you for the first time.
He frowns and his eyes go downwards before he gestures for you to follow him silently.
>>
You follow Luke into his office and take a seat in a leather armchair infront of his bulky desk filled with cluttered papers. He pulls out the classified file and lays infront of him, you can see he's added a multitude of sticky notes and writing in the margins.
He sighs and looks at you sadly.
"First off I want to thank you for the intel you got us. It'll make the Hellraisers' jobs a hell of a lot easier. Also you brought me this confidential file that was in the aliens language, I sent it to my mole who works for the ADVENT dispatch who helps translate human calls to the advent officers. He gave me a full translation of the paper, and it's juicy stuff, the ADVENT are bringing in a train car filled with people." He says slowly and calmly, a direct contrast how he usually speaks, you open your mouth to speak and he holds up his hand so you close it again.
"The people they are bringing in appear to be Psy adept, having the same ability as the Sectoids almost. The file included a roster and in the names there was one...Cpt.James Hardwood listed as being a Psy potential." He says looking at you and leaning forward.
"Your brother is alive, and coming to Philly."

You stare in disbelief at Luke.
"My brother is going to be coming into Philadelphia? When?" You sputter out, heart racing.
"He's going to be here in three days. A train will pull into the western station and unload some of the Psy Operatives and take them to the ADVENT Center for Technology and Scientific Advances." He states all slowly and calmly.
"I know that you're going to want in on this. But this is going to be a joint Op between us and the Hellraisers. The Hellraisers will be engaging the main forces keeping them busy while the Shadows infiltrate the area they're keeping the prisoners and releasing them. He nods and hands you a snub nosed revolver
"Thought you would want something in case you get into a tight spot. Wont do much to a muton but Troopers and Sectoids are just as soft as we are and this thing can still punch a nice hole in one." He says starting to pick back up again in speed.
"Anyways, I'm going to get the boys briefed for the raid on the Mayor's motorcade. Head down stairs and get prepped for the train. It comes in three days." He waves you off and goes back to his files.
==We are now going to be enetering a time skip. You'll have options on how to spend your next three days. Each event will give you some sort of stat boost that will transfer into the train event only.==

Weren't we going to visit the armory and the hellraiser leader after Luke?
>>
==Time skip after meeting watcher and going to the armory, dumbass QM is dumb==
You leave Luke's office and return to the downstairs base, you head down the western hallway that leads to the armory.
You open the old wooden door and step in to the cool air conditioned armory. Charge sits with his feet on a table reading a book, he looks at you only for a second before saying:
"Take whatever you'd like. The shoiting range is down that hatch in the sewer wallways under this joint." He looks back at his book and turns the page.
You look around the armory gazing at the weapons. Large revolvers and small handguns lay on black foam on counters to the left of the room. The center room has a wall in which Shotguns, Sniper Rifles and Assault Rifles sit atop pegs. The right wall has two small podiums, on which lay a minigun and a white machine that looks somewhat like a flamethrower but the backpack is obviously a battery. Some sort of laser cannon if you had to guess.

We've already got a handgun, might as well get a rifle for if we ever need one, maybe try to find a smaller one (more sub-machinegun ish in size)
>>
>>759707
All these choices. As much as our Strength bonus makes me want to take a hulking great laser cannon, I don't think it suits our sneaky medic...

I'll go with >>759713 and build a commando-medic. I know it's a long shot, but can we ask if they have any with silencers/suppressors?
>>
>>759707
>Pick an assault rifle
>>
You pick up the sleek assault rifle from its place on the wall and feel the weight in it's your hands, it's a little too bulky for you so you put it back and pick something up from the bottom of the wall a compact machine gun. You wrap your fingers around the foregrip and test wielding it one handed, it's light enough you can easily maneuver it around. Perfect.
"Charge, do we have any suppresors or something of that sort?" You ask
He looks at you and smiles
"Really going all out with the shadow thing huh? That's good. Yeah we have some in the accessories crate back here." He sets down his book and disappears into an office with black tinted glass and hands you a long rectangular block with 2 holes, you screw it onto the sub-machine gun and feel little change in the weight in the weapon.
Charge begins walking back to his seat but stops halfway.
"I do have some specialty ammo for that too. Luke and Gamble brought back a crate with some weapons and ammo. A few boxes were marked 'Sub-Sonic' a sort of silenced ammo. You interested?" He says only turning his head to talk to you.
"Yeah of course." You say
He nods and goes back into the office coming out handing you a small bag containing 3 magazines and sub-sonic ammo boxes.
You leave the armory and stash your weapons in a locker.

You make your way down the west hallways once more passing the armory and turning into what was once an indoor swimming pool it seems. You go down the steps and find Watcher in his 'office', a small couch, a couple filing cabinets and a workbench holding a variety of weapons and tools are the only furniture while some paper Sectoid targets line the walls.
"Ah Hardwood good good, come here." Says the man you assume to be Watcher. He's about 5,11 and muscular, he has short jet black hair and a goatee.
He smiles warmly and shakes your hand before continuing
"Luke just called my boys up for a briefing, as the CO I've already been prebriefed so I know what this mission with the mayor is going to contain as far as our plan. Tomorrow his motorcade will be doing a dress rehearsal of sorts and we're going to fuck it up." He says grinning wildly
You motion for him to continue speaking and he does
"To make a long story short kid, would you be interested in coming on this mission with us? The mission objective has changed from disorientation to assassination and a sneaky bastard could be useful. So you comin?"

"Of course I'll join you on the mission, when do we go?" You ask
"Tomorrow, train today and tomorrow morning pack up any weapons you're bringing and meet us in the lobby upstairs, dress inconspicuous too" he says before turning to his workbench and grabbing a small wrench and a laser rifle.
You stand waiting for anything else and he simply turns around and says "Yeah, dismissed." Before returning to his tinkering.
You leave the empty pool and head back into the hall. You decide to train for the rest of the day training.

You decide you only have time to train 2 things and since tomorrow is an assassination aim will be key. You retrieve the gun and ammo from your locker and head into the underground area beneath the armory. You aim at the paper target put up on the wall and slide in the magazine raising the gun to aim, you squeeze the trigger and hear a small burst of what sounds like compressed air almost, the shot hardly echoes in even the cavernous sewer.
(With the small caliber and special ammo+silencer firing a shot that misses will allow you to remain concealed instead of causing suspicion or revealing you) You spend a couple hours pulling off increasingly difficult shots and feel you have a good grip on how to best operate your gun and feel a slight bond with it. You consider naming it.

Gun is just a tool. We may have to ditch it later since we are an insurgent, we do not want to be caught with a weapon after an attack. naming it will make it more likely we are caught with said weapon.

Does anyone know that the mayor is a thin man? Did we even tell anyone? We should tell them in case they don't know.

>>Don't name gun
Perhaps later, we have not even used it yet.

The gun will be named Mathilda.
Life got in the way guys I'm sorry. I just moved to a new house, the thread will resume tommorow though.

You look at this weapon in your hands and something just clicks and you know, this will be one of your greatest allies in the days even years to come.
Mathilda, you don't know where the name came from but it seems to explode from your mind looking at the smooth black metal of the gun and the dull gleam of the silencer.
You leave the shooting range beneath the armory and get a leather strap so you can carry Mathilda with you around the base.
You decide since you are going on the mission tomorrow to help assassinate the new mayor you had better study up. You spend hours pouring over the file and manage to learn.

You let the mimic beacon take a quick scan of you so it can reproduce it when necessary later. A van that says 'Faren Painting and Restoration' sits idling before the side panel opens and Watcher beckons you in.
The van smells like paint and wood chips, you look and see another man and one woman flanking Watcher, he noticed you staring and pipes up
"The girl is Goldy and this man is Chomsky." He says motioning to both.
You observe them. The girl has her black hair tied into a messy bun, her lipstick is black and her shotgun lies across her lap she's staring at you with incredibly blue eyes.
The man has bright red hair in a frizzy ponytail and a freckled face his emerald eyes are locked on his assault rifle as he tinkers with it.
Watcher bangs the van's wall twice and it lurches forward. You're traveling in silence. How do you spend the ride?

You look at your gun and notice some marks from operating it in a sewer. You pick up a rag from the floor of the van and begin methodically cleaning the gun, while your mind wanders. Your muscles and mind are totally relaxed when the van comes to a slow stop.
"This is our exit, Maple." Says Chomsky with a grin
You raise an eyebrow and he shrugs
"Maple is a hard wood right?" He says as Goldy groans and slide open the panel.
You, Watcher, Goldy, And Chomsky stand in the loading bay of a warehouse.
There's an alley leading to the main street
There's a ladder leading to the roof.
The driver of the van is sitting while the van runs.

Watcher takes the opportunity presented by the Muton pulling his fist from the twisted metal of the car to run. He gets back where you are hiding and takes cover opposite of you taking the chance to shoot the Muton in the back.
Chomsky is determined to finish this trooper off no matter what, he shoulders his rifle and aims for it's head (+10 to roll for height)
You peak and since the Muton has now moved you can see a cowering man in a suit curled up against the advent troopers legs, this is your chance.
Goldy looks from place to place not sure what target to go after, she decides to wait until you fire to have her pick.
Clint pulls back the hammer on his revolver and turns towards the scouts awaiting their advance.
Rolling
Watcher, Lance, Chomsky, Goldy, Clint in that order.
>>
Watchers shot connects and a small but of gooey flesh flies from the Mutons forehead and it collapses dead.
You fire into the car attempting to hit the mayor but end up busting out the window above his cowered head
Chomsky gets his revenge as his bullets tear through the chest of the trooper. Dropping his dead body into the Limo.
Goldy walks slowly towards the limo seeing all threats elminated and blows out the back window attempting to hit the Mayor.
Clint yells
"They're getting close!" And fires a shot that harmlessly punches through a road sign next to the Troopers approaching.

Goldy fires as well taking out the Trooper at the knees he hits the ground wounded. (1 HP)
Chomsky's shot hits the ground surrounding him, the trooper grabs at his gun and makes one desperate move to take one of you with him.

Chomsky fires a shot at the Trooper killing him while Goldy helps you up and move to the car.
Chomsky gets in the front while Watcher has his gun pressed to the head of the Mayor.
Goldy is lightly rubbing your back while you groan nearly passing out from the pain. You realize you have a dislocated shoulder and do the only thing you can, you turn in your seat pressing your shoulder against it and throw your weight into your shoulder. This time, you do pass out.
MISSION COMPLETE:
Mayor is captured and will be returned to base where what happens to him will be decided.

You slide out of bed like a phantom and start creeping towards the doorway hoping to catch a bit of their conversation unfortunately you're still groggy from bed and you step on a pool ball nobody cleaned up and slip with a yell into the door way. You fall the worst way possible and with blinding pain realize you once again dislocated your shoulder, you lay on the ground groaning in pain. Goldy looks concerned while Luke's mouth turns up almost imperceptibly before he walks out the door.
"Jesus Lance are you okay?"
She says, you slide your shoulder back into place and gasp before your double vision converges showing her face clearly.

"I just saw you take that shot and I was..I was really worried about you." She rests her hand on your chest and you simply stand up.
"I promise I'm fine, I have to check on Cho and Watcher though make sure they're okay."
You say walking to the two men on cots. Goldy looks slightly disappointed and walks off with a small sigh.

Chomsky=Pass
Watcher=Fail
You hear rattling breath and figure it's Chomsky, his chest is plum purple with a nasty yellow tint to the edges and even a few black spots. You gently lift him and elevate his torso, the rattling stops and he should sleep much more comfortably.
You move over to Watcher and decide to check his wounds, you loft the bandages and look under, it's red and beginning to scab. You press the skin to see if it's hardened and Watcher wakes up and shoves you.
"What the fuck man, I'm trying to sleep. Fuck off" he says groggily before dropping back to his pillow.
You decide you've done all you can and exit the Rec room only to run right into Luke.
"Upstairs, you have ten minutes" he says staring past you
"What's wrong?" You ask
He doesn't acknowledge you just continues staring and repeats "Upstairs, you have ten minutes."
You look down and see a small metal sphere projecting this lifelike model of Luke, as it begins repeating it's message you tap it with your foot, cutting it off.

Rolled 82 (1d100)

You just had a very difficult mission. Luke will understand if you're a little tardy to his impromptu talk. You get to the showers and undress, you take great care removing your arm from the sling. Once the hot water starts running over you, your arm feels a lot better. Far more loose than before, the stiffness begins to dissappear and before you know it your arm is back to normal save for the large bruise and expected soreness. You exit the shower an dry off heading to Luke's office upstairs.
You open the door and Luke is sitting on his desk, the room only illuminated by the remnants of light from the stormy sky outside. Luke is holding a knife with a particularly heavy looking blade.
"Why were you late?" Is all he asks while still examing the knife in his hands.
"I just wanted to get a shower after the mission." You say quietly
Luke seems to mull this over, then with lighting fast hands he chucks the knife at you.
>>
You hardly have time to react as the knife's hilt slams into your ribs, causing you to double over in pain. You see a blur of movement and Luke is directly in front of you, he gives you a push and says "When your CO gives you an order you listen. Understand?"
>"What the fuck, Luke?"
>"Yes, Sir"
>Take a swing at him
>Try and get out through the door behind you

For fucks sake, if he wanted us there asap he shouldn't have said 10 minutes.

Tell him that as we tackle his ass (and carefully prepare our body to get thrown into the desk behind him - we know we-re about to get our ass handed to us but let's give it a go)
>>
You charge into Luke's stomach and pick him up off his feet.
"Should have said ASAP then." You grunt as you take him to the floor. You feel a deep pain in your stomach and Luke grabs you by the back of your pants and your shirt, for a little man he has extreme strength as he slides you across the floor on your stomach like a penguin. Your head connects with the wire trashbin and you roll onto your back to see Luke grinning at you.
"I recieved you figuring you were another drone. But seeing you in combat, the balls it took to try and take me on just then. I can shape you, I can work with this." He grins at you and offers a hand before adding
"You done?"

You take your hand and he grasps you firmly.
"You're a crazy motherfucker, Luke." You say as you shake off the candy wrappers on your shoulders.
Luke simply shrugs and goes to his desk, opening it and withdrawing a file.
"I want to train you." Luke says absolutely
You raise an eyebrow and motion for him to continue.

"I was a Phantom Ranger with XCOM for 5 years. We spent that time searching for the commander and trying to outrun ADVENT, after a while I got sick of it and requested deactivation. I wanted to settle down, to keep up the good fight but from a homebase instead of on the lam. I know you'll probably be picked up by the Avenger when this whole thing goes down and you'll probably join up with them, if you do I want you to have the skills needed to make sure you wont get yourself killed. So let me train you." Luke looks at you his eyes hard and his smirk now a light grimace.
>Train me. I won't leave you guys, I promise.
>Train me, I'm going to join XCOM if offered. I'm sorry
>Train me, I dont know what I'll do if I'm offered an XCOM position.
>I dont need any training.
>Train me after the Op [If Luke dies in the Op this will be invalid]
(The Ranger training will take up the final day of prep you have for the Operation)
>>
>Train me, I don't know what I'll do if I'm offered an xcom position.
