General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics are up in the air. Suggestions are welcome. We'll be trying some new things out so I appreciate your patience as we fine tune it. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. I also want to try a more varied turn system so you and your opponent can do a few things in a row more often. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Budew)

Recently: You had a friendly battle with Polu, you and Belladonna had a little adventure, and now you're going clothes shopping!

“How about I take you shopping, then?”

“I’ve never done that before. Okay!” Keira clasps her hands excitedly.

“Great! Let’s invite everyone!”

You invite Hana. She’s a little self conscious, but wants to come. “I guess I could get something for Togepi.”

“Valerie, Laki, do you want to come?”

Laki is asleep and leaning leaning heavily on Valerie. Her hands are getting pretty familiar with the thin blonde girl. “Mmmschmellzgooood.”

Valerie politely removes Laki’s wandering hands. “I think that could be quite fun.”

Laki finally opens her eyes and becomes fully awake with a snort. Despite her confident manner, she’s looking very self-conscious. “What are you looking at, Soft Hands?”

You avoid her harsh gaze. “Did you want to come with us to go shopping for clothes?”

Laki thinks, then springs up. “Awesome. Let’s go!”

You all head out to the clothing district. It’s only a few blocks away. You remember passing near it before.

Valerie chats you up about fashion. She’s dropped a few names you’d expect from someone that runs in her circles, but a few that are more underground. She seems to really know her stuff.

You arrive at the clothing district. It’s a little quaint, but you don’t want to say anything. It’s not the price that matters, it’s finding the right look for person. Hana has baggy, dumpy looking clothes that must be hot and uncomfortable. Laki’s clothes are actively downplaying her figure and making her look a little boxy. Keira is wearing a shirt many sizes too large that half-drapes over her grass skirt. These girls need your help.

She gives you that smile. That one you’re used to when girls get to know you. Like a harmless kid. “It’s so nice to have someone to talk to about all this. You’re not like other boys.”

I agree, but something I thought of is the fact that John has taken almost every opportunity to try and prove that he's manly, particularly in front of the girls.

Seems to me that he might have a complex about that. If that's the direction things go, it could be interesting to see how it gets resolved.

“I’m manly! I can prove it!” You rush into a nearby store. The girls follow. They have a wide variety of things from all over. You just need some stuff that will show your bold, assertive, manliness. You try on a few things quickly. Mace, Bella, and Gobble follow.

“Herb, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.”

You burst out of the change room. “A man’s feelings don’t get hurt!” You don’t really think that’s true, but it sounds like something a rugged guy would say. She didn’t actually hurt your feelings so much as she made you realize you’re not showing that masculine aspect of yourself. “Ta daaa!~”

You’re wearing a slick mixed suit, with a cape and bandana. Those two things are hard to pull off, but under the right circumstances, you can do it.

“Huh. That shouldn’t work, but it does.” Valerie tells you.

The other three girls look at you in total surprise.

“Wow!” Keira says. “That is brave!”

Hana is in open mouth shock. She looks very impressed and very scarred.

Laki rushes forward and rips the headband off of you. “Soft Hands are you crazy?”

You pose. “Crazy about uhh...beer and push ups and-”

“No! You idiot. A bandana means you’re representing one of the islands and you’re willing to take any challenge.” She leans in. “Any challenge. You’re free game for anything from a game of checkers to a battle to the death. You can’t back out.” She carefully puts the bandana down. “Not that anyone ever does death battles any more, but still.”

“Oh. I didn’t know.” You feel a bit foolish. “What about the cape?”

“It means you read too many comics.” She looks down on you and gives you a second look. “But I guess you’re making it work. Somehow.”

“Thanks! The trick is the lining. See, the colors...” You go on for a bit about it until even you realize that she’s getting bored. Keira keeps comparing what you’re talking about to different flower arrangements. Hana becomes more and more self-conscious about her large sweater and other things.

You and Valerie get to talking again. “We need to help them.”

She nods. This is a mission to save people.

>Start with Hana. She needs it the most

Kiera would probably be best first. Seems like she wouldn't mind.

Then hana, laki, valeria
>>
>>742857
That was my other choice. I just figured Laki would be harder if given time to think about reasons to refuse.
>>
Actually, I don't think we should dress up Valerie at all. I kinda want to make it a competition. We can both makeover each of the others and see who does it better.
>>
You put the suit and cape back. Mace seems specifically interested in the cape as you rack it.

“I don’t know...” she looks away. “I don’t mind blending into the background.”

“Nonsense!” Valerie tells her. “Look at you! You’re absolutely gorgeous!” She moves the hair out of Hana’s eyes. “Now let’s get you out of that sweater and let your natural beauty show.”

Hana shyly nods her head.

“Want us to go to the change rooms first?”

“Yes please.”

The group heads to one of the change room areas in the back. This place must not have a lot of theft because they have a few of them. It's just a grouping of stalls in a secluded area in the back.

Everyone sits on the little couch as Hana takes off her sweater. She has a light white tank top underneath. But what draws everyone’s eyes are the various burn lines and the stark black and metal arm.

You and Valerie exchange a look. This is obviously a tricky one. She’s also got the leg situation. You’ve only seen brief glances, but they follow the same black and metal pattern.

Hana holds her real arm with her fake one and stares intently at the ground.

>Find her something long sleeved but not as drab as the sweater
>Encourage her to wear a t-shirt and jeans. Denim won’t hug the metal leg rods that much so it won’t be as obvious

>She can go full cyberpunk with a trench coat and glasses. Own it to the extreme!
>I know! Ask Keira to paint the arm!

[I cobbled together some 3DPD examples to demonstrate. The sweater or shawl can be open, allowing some exposure of her collar, and can overall be tighter than her current sweater to complement her form. She can later ditch the shawl when she is more comfortable. Some tall boots would go nicely without the leggings.]

You and Valerie consult. This is a sensitive subject. Valerie wants to be more aggressive and get her into something that shows a lot of her body. You have a different suggestion.

“How about these?” You present a long sleeved shirt and light tan pants.

Hana looks at them, the nods. She was expecting a lot worse. “Okay!”

Valerie walks with Hana into the change room to help her get dressed. “Oh my. You’re quite cut. Aren’t you?”

Keira climbs up your shoulders and launches herself to the gap at the top of the changing stall door. “I wanna see!” There’s a loud thud as she goes a little too hard and flips over it. Belladonna follows under the gap at the bottom.

The three girls come out with Hana in tow. The tight shirt hugs her fairly generous chest. The pants still show a bit of the form of her hips but avoid showing the form of her legs.

“Is it okay?”

“You’ve got great boobs!” Keira tells her. “They look really good in that.”

Hana slowly covers her chest with her arms.

>Tell Hana she’s cute

Also. I think in a deep, dark part of her heart, Hana would get a geeky high out of dressing in full cyberpunk.

Gag outfit for Laki might be a princess of some sort.

Keira would need something to go with her face-paint, so maybe a skeleton

Hana is cyberpunk of course

Valerie should be something more punk, maybe like a punk-rocker

Polu should be Keunu Reeves's character from Point Break

Jane should dress as her favorite pokemon. Mainly because I'd to see never in something goofy.

That's all the bad ideas I've got.

>>
You grab a shawl and offer it to her. Valerie see’s what you’re doing and helps put it on Hana.

“There. Should be much more breezy.” Valerie says.

Hana walks over to a mirror. She forgets her self-consciousness at all the attention being on her and lights up. “Thank you!”

Laki smirks and leans over to you. “You’re so manly that you get girls to put on more clothes instead of taking them off, huh?” Her voice lets you know it’s just some good natured ribbing.

Before you put that sundress away that you were also going to suggest, she takes it. “I want it. Even if I don’t wear it... it’s nice.”

Valerie smiles. She’s totally going to wear it later.

Hana looks to you again. “Are you sure I look okay?”

“Yeah! I think you’re really cute.”

She stands there in shock while you casually put a few of the items you didn’t use back onto thier hangers. The staff can handle this sort of thing, but you don’t mind doing it.

You turn back to her. “Are you okay?” She looks like she’s sweating.

She gulps and nods. She just goes to sit back on the couch.

Laki stands up and stretches. “I guess that’s that.”

Valerie and Keira grab her. “Oh no. You’re not getting out of it.”

Keira nods. “No way!”

Laki looks to you. Her eyes are questioning what you intend to do with her.

She’s tricky too. She has a very curvy figure, but her muscles are noticeably large, too. Keira has the figure of a model if she were taller, but Laki is a much harder challenge. Her tight sarashi makes it hard to estimate her chest. Both your inner fashion advisor and your boyhood drive makes you really want to know more about that.

I can kind of see where you're coming from: The Kat/Robin thing in the first quest went down pretty well because we bonded with Robin before any other serious options appeared, so all the following trysts became icing on the waifu sundae, as it were, rather than serious options to rival Robin.

That isn't the case in this quest, as there are multiple options available, and the idea of having one over the other isn't the foregone conclusion that it was in the first quest. Thus the opportunity for shitstorms to emerge from this matter is considerably higher.

I think it'll get better once we've moved away from literally the entire cast (except for Jane) being in one huge herd.

Don't think of these current silly things in terms of potential shitstorms. Think of them as us finally getting a chance to chat with all the girls and see who we like based on early impressions.

I was a hardcore Keira fan, with Laki as my second choice, but now I think Valerie and Hana are in a three-way tie with Keira for my favorite. These past couple threads have been good for getting a better feel for the girls' characters, and they've made me change my eventual group preferences pretty heavily.

I kind of agree, yeah. I like Keira a lot, and she has caused many a boner, but she's really hard for John to relate to on a personal level, and I think that might hold her back in the long run. I think a relationship with her could work, but I don't think John has the right personality to walk her through how to fit in with regular customs and mannerisms.

I still want to hang out with her and do cool ghost lore stuff, and even some accidental lewd things, because she seems to be good for that, but I think Hana and Valerie are probably better girlfriend options. They seem to get John pretty well.
>>
>>743249
Laki doesn't actually take that many big risk though. And she knows more island customs than us.
>>
At the risk of starting shit, I'll say that the more we see of her, the more I like Hana, but I've really gotten to like Laki as well over the last couple of threads.

Probably has something to do with the life-and-death situation with the Kabutops, but she's good for John.
>>
>>743275
Laki may be my last non-Jane choice for a girlfriend, but I still like her a lot. She's great.
>>
>>743262
Personally, I'm casting my lot in with Keira, Hana, or Polu.
>>
>>743262
I was talking more about traveling partners, not girlfriends. Let's explore the region a little more before thinking about that
>>
>>743275
Laki and Hana are pretty close for me.
>>
>>743275
Laki and Hana would be my top choices for traveling companions. Too soon to say about romance, but I have my preferences, but I try to keep them separate since John got to develop his own feeling about that stuff.
>>
>>743275
Maybe we can travel with Hana and Laki. They are basically two extremes, that can be fun.
>>
>>743279
Ah, fair enough.

I'd be happy with Hana, Keira, and Valerie all being our travelling partners. I think those three balance each other out really well, and all of them compliment John in some way:

John is more outgoing than Hana, more savvy than Valerie, and more socially-accustomed than Keira. Valerie and Keira both bring potentially cool lore to the table in the form of ghost stuff and Valerie's dad being a big deal here, and Hana almost definitely has more to her that we haven't seen yet.

So yeah, those would be my three choices. I think they'll make for a good balance of personalities.
>>
>>743189
>>Daisy dukes and a bikini. Just kidding! She’d kill you
>>A breezy, feminine dress
Sleek and flowing really suits muscles. Not sure why.
>>
>>743279
For travelling partners, we should try and go with Keira.

Besides that, Laki and Polu are both solid options.

Much as I like Hana and would like to see her along, she's not as much of an influence as Laki and Keira and she doesn't as yet have as much of a potential for getting us into interesting situations.
>>
>>743290
fuck no. We have to travel with Kiera. That innocence is way to fucking adorable. The try everything once and live life to it's fullest policies are literally the best there are.
>>
>>743310
Plus preiestess shenanigans would be cool. As would visiting temples and shit with her.
>>
>>743301
I think Hana is really interesting. Remember that she steped in front of everyone to stop that attack like we did. She is shy but brave.
>>
>>743310
Hana/Laki/ Keira could be fun.

Then again I can easily see

Keira/Polu/Laki or Keira/Polu/Hana

Keira's going to want to watch Spiritomb, at least until it gets checked out.
>>
We could just travel with everyone.
>>
>>743316
True but she's not as outgoing as Keira or Laki.

I like those two because they get us into trouble.
>>
>>743321
I'm partial to Hana, Laki, Kiera.
>>
>>743322
That would make shit worse and mean that character development is spread really thin
>>
>>743322
That sounds like really tough, to characters characters and to have good development. I think having three people besides John should be near the starting number with maybe more added on later in the quest. Besides the islands are small enough that Gobble said we should run into everyone often enough.
>>
>>743322
That would be the easiest solution.

But it'd also be the hardest for Gobble to balance.

>laki is actually our sexy strong independent fishnet wearing leatherclad gf the entire time
>>
>>743352
I like Laki, but I don't want her with us ALL the time.
>>
>>743335
Agreed. Keira would want to come with us, because she's taken an interest in us, so she'll probably ask to come with us regardless, and Valerie and Hana both seem more comfortable opening up to John; they both seem to find him approachable, at least.

Plus, they're probably the least independent of the others. Laki and Polu can definitely handle themselves on their own, so them going solo (or even teaming up) seems more reasonable than making Valerie and Hana head off on their own.
>>
>>743328
Maybe we need a person that gets us in trouble (Keira or Laki) and one more calm to compensate (Hana or Valerie). I think that is the best, I prefer Keira and Hana because I don't like Laki that much, but that's just me.
>>

theres a reason people typically travel in trios in stories

it allows for much more character development and a love triangle

I'll push for Keira and Hana or Polu as our traveling companions. Then Laki and Valerie can go together with the person that isn't in our group
>>
You look her up and down. Laki becomes a bit bashful at your examination. “What? What are you looking for?”

You keep looking her up and down as you stroke your chin. You glance over to Keira briefly, and decide it’s time to be brave. This is going be be so funny. “Stay right there.”

You come back with a few items. Jean shorts with that factory cut (you’d prefer cutting jeans yourself but this will do), a bikini top, a fishnet top to go over it, and a small, open leather jacket.

Laki puts you in a headlock. “You’ve got a lot of guts, Soft Hands!”

Valerie looks at it and then you. “Herb! That...actually, that might work.”

Keira leaps up. “Yeah! Do it!”

Laki looks at both of them. “You’re messing with me, right?”

Keira emphatically declares that she isn’t. Valerie says that Laki should flaunt what she’s got.

“Oh fine. Whatever.” Laki goes into the room to try them on. “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” Keira and Valerie follow to help.

She comes out with an aggressive waltz, then jokingly poses. “Alright. I did it. Now let’s move on to the real clothes.” She points to the track clothes you have set aside. The serious suggestion.

Valerie stops her. “Come on. Give us a twirl first.”

Laki glares at her, then you. “I get it. I’m not girly. Let's move on.” You try not to stare too much. Her firm, heavy chest pushes out against the bikini and fishnet. You see a hint of G-string peaking out above her dukes. Usually you’d call this a little trashy, but your pants are calling her a divine miracle.

Valerie holds an arm out to Laki as she goes back towards the changing stall. “That’s not what I meant.”

“It’s fine. We had a laugh. Let’s move on.”

You are right. I don't want Hana or Valerie going solo. And we need to think about objectives. Laki and Polu are more combat focused than us and are more likely to focus their travels in that. I don't think I want us to go full champion of the region with op pokemon

It says something about Gobble's ability to throw out hooks there's this level of discussion over it.

Means we'll win whatever way we go, but Keira and Hana seem like they've got a sweet\funny dynamic.

The real hard choice is Polu or Laki.

I'm leading towards Laki because Polu can be a little on the passive side, but at the same time, he's also got a potentially malicious plot-point with him.

“Nobody is laughing at you.” You tell her. “I think you look really...” Your eyes wander over her again. You’ve always been looking at fashion models but this body is something else. “You look so ho-” You look up at her face. “Good. You look uh, good.”

Her face tells you that she’s having an internal debate about what you just said. Her eyes go up and down your body too for some reason. It finally settles on this smirk that’s half flattered and half like a predator looking at prey. “Guess you’ll say whatever you can to get out of those back rubs you owe me, huh?” She pushes you back to the couch, giving you a chance to sit there slightly leaned over.

"Gutsy little perv." Laki smiles as she goes to change into that track suit. It looks good. Lots of freedom to move, too. She’s surprisingly impressed at it.

“Do me! Do me!” Keira jumps up.

Hana gives a Keira a funny look for a second before shaking her head.

You look up and the energetic girl with the wild facepaint. That’s hard too. She has a more typical body from what you’ve seen (and you’ve seen a lot) but the colours give this another level of challenge.

“What kind of clothes do you normally wear?” Valerie asks.

She looks up at the taller blonde. “Oh. natural clothes. Cotton or leaves or paint made from berries and roots. Things like that.”

You and Valerie have a few ideas.

“What if she has just a cotton tube top.”

“I was thinking a sundress, but that works too.”

You both go over the smaller girl. Keira seems pretty conscious of you, but nearly oblivious to Valerie, despite valerie being the one to really invade her space and lift her arms and measure her. You guess even if you’re both mainlanders, Keira’s a lot more used to being around girls.

Keira tries on both. She changes in front of everyone before the girls can stop her.

She does these little hip wiggling dances for each. It’s a little hypnotic. In the end, she decides to go with the tube top, though. She likes the sundress too, and it flows around her majestically like wind over a field of barley, but she says she wants the least restrictive clothes as possible. The light sundress is good for more formal events, though.

It comes time to pay for everything. Laki rings her stuff up. Hana rings hers up, but Keira is looking distraught. “I don’t have any money.”

“I can lend you what you need.” You reach for the money your sister gave you.

“I’ve never been in money debt before but I heard it’s a common custom for your people.” She looks at it as you place it in her hand. “But I don’t know when I can get you your money back.”

“Then just work it off. You’ll figure it out.” Laki moves ahead.

Keira looks to you to see if that’s okay.

“Sure. That’s fine with me.”

“Thanks!” She lights up. “Most of the time we get meals from the people or temples. We only normally own what we carry with us.”

Your group heads to the place with smaller Pokemon accessories. Everyone chats for a bit.

Keira goes to Hana. “What can I do for a boy that’s worth this much?”

Laki and Valerie snicker while Hana awkwardly tries to come up with something to say. You don’t get it.

You arrive at the Pokemon accessory store. Clothing and things are just a smaller section. They have vitamins, Pokeballs of varying degrees of quality, poffins, items, and more.

“So Pokemon are allowed to use items here?” Valerie asks.

“Yeah!” Hana answers. “I watched a lot of tournaments in the hospital and I was surprised when some regions had no items.”

“Most items are more trouble to carry than they’re worth.” Keira adds. “Most of the time a Pokemon’s natural abilities are more than enough without worrying about having a lot of material baggage. That’s what trainers are for.”

Huh. Good to know. You don’t have a lot of money left, though.

“Don’t worry about it.” Laki tells you as she hands you some cash. “I sold that nugget earlier. Here’s your half. Don’t make a big deal out of it.” She forces it into your pocket.

Everyone goes looking around for stuff to get their Pokemon. Yours all crowd around you. You look at the money Laki gave you. It’s not a huge amount, but it should cover enough. You’ll have to choose how you want to spend it, though.

I don't know I don't see Jane as that bad.
She seems like the kid that tried to be cool by being a bit of a jerk but it backfired immensely but she was too embarrassed to admit she was wrong. And to help her get over all this she comes up with Herb being out to get her.
>>
>>744015
We just need to be super friendly with her every time we met.
>>
>>744030
I think that will have the opposite effect, maybe maybe a double battle with her as our partner
>>
>>744038
John and Jane alone traveling together. And impossible and fun situation.
>>
>>744059
That would be a great closed room episode, like john and Jane are lost in a cave together and wacky adventure ensues.
>>
>>744059
I'm hoping for a shipwreck episode

we lose all our pokemon, we have 1 pokeball between us, and must work together to survive and escape the island.

preferably with half a thread where we're stuck on a bit of wreckage
>>
>>744015
The problem is that she refuses to accept responsibility for her actions to the point of legitimate neurosis. She legitimately believes we are an evil manipulator out to destroy her attempt at getting a fresh start on her life, and blames us for causing her to be alienated from the people she tried to befriend. If she just admitted to herself that she's a fallible person who makes mistakes, she'd instantly be far more approachable.

I'd love to make friends with her, but jesus that's a lot of baggage that must be sorted out before that ever becomes an option
>>

I like the idea of being locked in a room with her for some time.
Maybe we'll get in some deep sea shenanigans together and be stuck in a decompression chamber for some hours.
Or have to go through some sort of spiritual cleansing to enter a certain temple or area that involves being locked in a small room over night.

You split most of your money between quality food ingredients, pokeballs, potions, some antidotes, and a few status healing items. Huh. The food is affordable but the other items are pretty expensive here. Must be the island economy.

You debate about what to do for the accessories you want to give your Pokemon. Should you buy something small now or make something with materials? And what ever happened to that mushroom money?

“And what does someone like you know about traditions?”

You peak around one of the aisles. Jane is there, cornered buy a group of people roughly your age or older. They’re all wearing the same armbands. You can’t read what they say, but this seems like the anti-outsider group you were told about.

“I belong here as much as anyone else.” She answers.

“Well that’s the thing. Not everyone else belongs here.” Their leader says. “You weren’t raised here. You’re a mainlander.” He leans over her. “But maybe we can let you stay if you’re willing to contribute.”

>Keep watching.

You run off to find Keira. Everyone listens to priestesses, right?

Your eyes scan all over for her as you run down the aisles. How can someone so colorful be so hard to spot?

There she is! “Keira!”

She looks up. She was doing some sort of blessing on some food. “Hi, Herb!”

You grab her by the hand and explain as much as you can on your way back.

“Nincada! Go find Laki!” She released her Pokemon. “We have to save those people from Jane!” She says as you both turn the corner. You’re not sure if she meant that the other way around or not.

When you do so, Jane is face to face with their leader in an intense staredown. A few of the members turn to face you and Keira.

“What do you think you’re doing, holding a priestesses hand?”

The leader stops trying to stare down Jane. “Hey, you.” He points to you. “You’ve got a lot of nerve, disrespecting her like that.”

“You again.” Jane glares at you.

You keep your mouth shut. You get the feeling that anything you say might be twisted or just plain not help.

“Who I hold hands with isn’t your business.” Keira steps forward. “What’s going on here?” The leader looks between you and Keira. Keira steps into his vision again.

He takes the edge off of his glare. “This half-mainlander here was being disrespectful. She’s a guest on our island and-”

“And how are we supposed to treat guests?” The playful Keira you know is gone. “‘But those that are greeted in peace are your brother. Feed them as you would your brother. Take their boats onto your land.’” She quotes.

He frowns. “But they’re not here in peace. They bring piracy and criminals to Take. And what about their pollution on Tabo. And... and almost all of Gwo Boss and their degenerate ways?”

From behind her, you can see Keira holding her wooden charm tightly. But she’s holding her ground and keeping her voice steady. “Did Jane do any of those?”

He keeps his eyes on hers, but says nothing. Finally, he turns to his crew. “Come on.” He signals for the to follow. Before he goes, though, he makes some sort of prayer motion to Keira. She mutters something and makes her own return motion.

He brushes your shoulder as he walks by. You hear one of them mutter the word “Haojin.”

After they leave, Keira slowly walks over to you and buries her head in your back. She’s shaking. “That was too scary.”

“Touching ghost priestesses, now?” Jane walks up to you. “Remember what I said before? Next time that I see you, my Pokemon and I are going to cream you.”

“What’s wrong with touching Keira?”

Jane puts her hands on her hips. “Don’t play dumb.”

Keira brings her head off of her back and composes herself. “It’s okay.”

Jane gives you and Keira a funny look before finally explaining. “Ghost priestesses have a special connection to the divine. She’s cleaner than you.”

You look at your clothes and hands. They seem clean enough.

“Spiritually cleaner.” Jane clarifies. “She can touch other people all she wants. It’s assumed she either willing to get her aura dirty for her duties, or that she’s spiritually ready. If you touch her though, it’s like saying you’re equally as clean.” Jane seems to just be showing off her knowledge. “It’s presumptuous, even for you. And rude. A normal person touching someone like her is like a dirty person smearing themselves all over someone in a clean white suit.”

“I didn’t mean to be rude.” You tell Keira. “I didn’t know.”

Keira shakes her head. “I don’t mind. You have a nice aura. And besides, for Grass training we’re taught that dirt, the earth, is divine and natural."

Jane folds her arms and grunts.

“I think you owe her a thank you.” Oh jeez it's hard to meet her gaze. Please don't let her hit you.

Jane glares at you, but doesn’t fight you on that. She turns to Keira. “I’ve been studying.” She offers a similar prayer motion. She looks eager to show she knows all the customs.

“That’s really close.” Keira compliments. She still looks pretty shaken up from before, but she’s cheering up quickly.

“Close? Where did I screw up?” She looks over to you. “Never mind. Are we going to do this, or are you going to run to find another person to handle what you can’t?”

“Fine. Let’s go outside. Those earrings are really bringing out your eyes, by the way.” Your tone is still firm despite your words. “I’m glad you took my advice.” You try to glare back at her.

“I already knew that! It’s just a coincidence! I don’t care what you think!” She’s much better at being intimidating.

The three of you start walking out. Laki shows up with Nincada on her head. She’s confused about what’s going on, but Keira fills her in on the rough details.

“You’re battling? I want a rematch, too!”

“Whatever,” Jane says. “I can take you both.”

Yeah I feel one on one would be the best way. While she'd probably accept a double battle she'd probably just use it to reinforce her thoughts as us being a manipulator who couldn't beat her fair and square.

Not that I think our odds are any good; she's got type advantage on most of our team and has probably been way more focused on training than we have.

You’ll battle Jane first. Laki can challenge her after if she wants.

“The only challenge will be for the paramedics getting your Pokedex out of your colon after I jam it up there, if you interfere with another one of my battles.”

You consider yourself a patient person, but Jane is really testing that.

“Are you mad? Good. Show me your passion! No manipulation or games. Battle me!” She reaches for a Pokeball.

“Wait, what kind of battle is it?” Valerie and Hana have caught up.

“We won’t bet money, just pride.” Jane says. As she glances at your belt. “Singles. One pokemon each. How’s that sound?”

“How about two Pokemon each?”

Jane throws up her hands. “If you want. Just don’t cry about me beating you. Winning doesn’t make me the bad guy.”

You both take your places at the end of a small battle area. It’s a flat area of compacted dirt with two metal barriers near the middle. They’re both about two feet tall and three feet wide. This place must be used for small Pokemon battles a lot.

She reaches for her Pokeball.

Now this is the kind of stuff I like to see from Keira: these moments where she isn't chipper and excited humanize her quite a lot. We should follow up on how shook-up by this she seemed once we've dealt with Jane. Not that I want her to be serious all the time, but this is the kind of thing John - and by extension the readers - can relate to more easily.

Keira considers different things to be taboo or scary or embarrassing and the like, but she still obviously feels those emotions. This, along with both the facepaint conversation and the whole Spiritomb thing, have been good characterization moments for her.

“Go Tyrogue!”

“Go Bella!”

Her Tyrogue looks really strong. They must have been training non-stop.

Jane smiles. “Just about ready to evolve, aren’t you?”

Tyrogue demonstrates a few kicks.

Belladonna tries to do her own pose. She’s much more graceful and collected than when she first hatched, and she has battle experience, but Jane and her Pokemon look really tough.

If there’s one thing to be happy about, though, it’s the intense sunlight. This region seems to change between that and rain a lot.

She doesn't have protect, fake out is 100% accuracy, and her tyrouge is stronger, faster and more experienced. There's no way we're dodging it if it is fake out.

And if it is, we'll flinch and bella will be knocked out next turn without even touching tyrouge.
>>
>>745044

“Hit it with Fake out!”

“Bella just try to protect yourself!”

The Tyrogue appears up close to her. It moves deceptively and slaps the air in front of Belladonna, doing some damage and causing her to flinch.

“Don’t let up!” Jane encourages her Pokemon.

Bella looks shook up, but she’s still got a lot of fight in her. You don’t know how much of that was mitigated, but you’re guessing not much. It was worth a try, though.

“Use Tackle!” Jane yells out and points to the target. Tyrogue leaps at its opponent and attacks. It’s a strong hit that sends Bella rolling back.

“Don’t worry. We’ll have much stronger moves soon enough.”

“Mega Drain!”

Bella leans down and then shoots her head up. She pulls faint green bits of energy out of her opponent. It’s not great, but it’s working. It could use a bit of practice and polish, though.

“Good job, Bella!” You encourage her. She’s learning fast.

On the whole, while Bella got some health back, it wasn’t nearly as much as she lost. You struggle to think of a way you can turn this around. Tyrogue looks like it's pumped to fight.

"I thought you'd have better moves than this." Jane taunts. "I haven't even used my trump card yet."

“Let stop, Tyrogue! You’re way stronger! We’ve trained this move so let’s use it! Thief!”

“I believe in you, Bella! Keep it up! Mega Drain!”

“Thief!”
“Mega Drain!
“Tackle!”
“Mega Drain!
“Thief!”
“Mega Drain!
“Tackle!”
“Mega Drain!
“Thief!”
“Mega Drain!

You and Jane watch it happen before your eyes. Despite the experience gap, Bella is pulling ahead! Tyrogue is getting tired, but Bella seems to be able to keep her energy and her health refreshed by draining his. It’s a battle of endurance and Bella is winning despite the odds.

“That’s enough!” Jane yells. “You’re mocking me, aren’t you? Well I respect my Pokemon enough not to let you make a game out of this!” She retrieves her Tyrogue. He’s still got some fight in him, but he looks bushed. When he comes back, he'll probably only take one hit. “Go, Fletchling!”

The small, cute bird Pokemon appears just in time to lose some health from Mega Drain. Jane’s eye twitches.

Keira, Hana, and Laki look surprised. They’ve never seen this Pokemon before. You’ve seen a lot of them back home, though.

>Keep using Mega Drain. You’re on a roll and might even unlock something better

She literally believes we are an evil genius out to fuck with her in every way possible, including turning people against her and making a fool of her whenever possible.

The idea that she herself might be the cause of some of these problems is utterly ludicrous to her, it just *has* to be that one guy who ruined everything.

Given the blame shifting, seeming obsession and what Gobble has said so far, that's what it sounds like.

The question then becomes:

Emotionally abusive family member or dickhole partner?

Maybe this is a look at what Kat and Robin's relationship would've been if it had've gone wrong, in a certain sense.
>>
>>745711
After this is done, we should really invite her for ice cream or something, because either way she obviously needs a friend.

Honestly, she reminds me of some of the women who ran in gangs where I grew up. They acted batshit insane because they couldn't afford to be seen as weak, and they never accepted blame for anything, no matter how trivial.
>>
>>745730
Like they say, you've got to hit rock bottom before you can get back up.

Being beaten by Herb is probably going to be just about rock bottom.

>>
>>745730
Yeah, that's more or less the vibe I get from her too. Which of course means she would reject that invitation; especially if she lost because she would either see it as pity or some other ploy against her.

>>745750

>>
>>745684
[Hoping Tuesday, but looking at my work emails I'll be super slammed tomorrow and that will likely bleed over to Tuesday causing me to work late. I'd say 30% chance I can run Tuesday.]

>>745685
[Bella has Mega Drain down pat and she's loving this. Even if she's KO'd in one hit now, she'll still have fond memories about this fight. Sure, she got hit a lot, but weathering what comes is a plants life. She's managed to grow despite it. Her happiness and experience have been going very quickly.

Laki is impressed, hopeful that this means she can do well too, and a little jealous. Mostly though, she's just liking seeing Jane angry. What's Jane's problem with her, anyway? And what's with Herb. Is he a wuss or a secret badass? He gets this intense, focused look in his eyes when he fights and she can't tell if he even knows it.

Keira is impressed at your affinity for bringing out the best in a Grass type. She's heard a lot of different things about mainlanders and people from other places, but she feels she could really connect with you. There's a culture gap, but you seem to have more in common where it counts. She hopes you're not weirded out or upset with her over not saying anything about touching her. She likes being seen as Keira first and a priestess second.

Hana feels a bit overwhelmed and a bit pumped, though she doesn't look it. You, Polu, Jane, and Laki all seem to be battlers that know what they're doing. She needs to figure out what she's good at before she's totally left behind. It's easy to go back to just hiding from the world and watching movies and shows all day, but she promised she's not going to be an observer any more! She's going to do something. She just needs to figure out what that something is.

Valerie is watching the fight with interest. She sees you as a natural rival for contests, given your fashion and cooking skills. You battle with Polu may have been a fluke, but seeing you do decently against Jane after she destroyed three of them before means she should probably keep an eye on you. She knew it wouldn't be easy to try to journey like a normal person, but she was expecting the competition not to be as strong compared to someone like her. Is that elitist?

The ice cream shop owner across the street is happy to see another battle in that yard. His wife called him crazy for setting it up and inviting the public to battle there, but new trainers on this island are always excited to battle and then have ice cream after. Best investment he ever made. Kids sure are fashionable these days.]

[Personally I expected Herb to lose to Polu and Jane. We'll see how things go next thread, but good choices and good dice have really helped. Maybe I have to up the difficulty a bit.]
>>
>>745852
We honestly expected to lose too. I'd say the difficulty is fine, just our immense amount of Nat 100s blows the curve. Not much you can do about that. Kinda like Oberon sweeping that one guy solo. Luck is luck.
>>
>>745852
The dice gods giveth and the dice gods taketh away. We got luck I feel. Though my rolls helped none. <.<

Also I think that Ice Cream store owner is a smart man and might be related to a cabbage salesmen in some way.
>>
>>745872
Nah, we're not going to ruin his shop. Can't be cabbage related.
>>
>>745852
Thanks for running, Gobble. Thread was especially amusing- was nice getting some dressing up going on.

Looking forward to the oncoming bits.
>>
>>745852
It's annoying how we've got to get these sorts of character reactions OOC or by word of god, but they add a lot.

And this might be selfish, but glad I'm not the only one out of commission tomorrow. I really don't like missing this.

And honestly, our luck so far has been bullshit. Upping difficulty really shouldn't be a problem unless the trend actually follows on consistently.
>>
>>745871
>>745872
[I guess that's true. We'll see how things keep going. Don't expect Jane to just roll over, though. She's got a few things to try, yet.]

>>745886
[Thanks for coming! The girls had fun. Herb is very non-threatening so it's easy to relax around him.]
>>
>>745919
Good, the lower their guard gets, the higher our sword will go
>>
>it's easy to relax around him.
And then we strike
>>
So I'm really interested in Keira, Hana and Laki teaching Herb more about their culture. But I feel that it's a bit one sided. So I was just thinking about things that could go on in herbs culture. So far I thought that while they're not super religious where he comes from any more. Some old customs and legends still happen and are talked about. Like for example, priestesses and priests are shaman/druids who believe that Pokemon are the spirits of nature. Marowaks and Cubones are especially holy due to their skull like heads denoting their affinity with the realm of the dead (which is just the place spirits go when you die). Preist and Prestesses wear masks that look like Marowak skulls for this reason. And Ghost pokemon aren't actually ghosts, but are the spirits that have the closest connection wit the spirit world. Legendary Pokemon are just the most powerful spirits and represent rather than embody their respective part of the world. E.g. Dialga and Celebii arn't time, but are powerful enough to control it. Or where given their powers by the being that can. This is assuming he's from PokeEurope and is a PokeCelt/German/Suomi/other.
>>
>>745925
Phrasing.
>>
>>745985
Pretty sure they know what they said.
>>
>>745998
I know I'm just being silly.
>>
>>745852
Well, Polu's spiritomb did have a tag on that made things easier.
>>
>>745871
>expect to lose
That is loser talk! I'm here for the yuge gains and victory!
>>
>>745954
I could really get behind something like this. Maybe not the exact thins you listed, but I like the idea of some cultural exchange going on.

You're right that lore dumps would be one-sided otherwise, and I think giving John the opportunity to share some of his culture would be a great way to avoid that.

I'm in favor of us being either poke-germanic or poke-irish. Both have really cool mythology and culture to them that don't often get attention.
>>
>>745954
>>746370
I think Gobble has been sprinkling in lore from our home region already. The reactions to things here and the times we know Pokemon that are rare here give us an idea of the region.
>>
>>746374
Oh, yeah there's definitely been some of that. I more meant mythology and culture, as opposed to just which pokemon can be found there.

You can't run Pokémon without crits though. And Gobble tends to be pretty reasonable with them. A single crit either way doesn't decide a fight.

Mawile has a fantastic design, so that one has my vote.

I can dig that. Look at that glorious bastard.

>>746536
Also this.

Fuck. There are too many pokemon that I want.
>>
>>745711
Honestly I thought it would be something more along the lines of being an outcast from her peers growing up. She's probably always thought that if only she were on Kaitwe, things would be different. But they aren't, and that has to be hard.
I can understand why John is sympathetic to her. They both moved here at the same time, away from everything they've known. If Laki hadn't come and found him, and helped him to get to know everyone, maybe John would be the one who's traveling alone.

Also, the main difference I seem to see between island and mainland religion is that on the mainland, religions tend to be very legendary focused. I can just see John as a Xerneas follower.
>>
>>746648
I don't think the mainlands are very religious at all, what they do have focuses on legendary Pokemon though.
>>
>>746648
Yeah. I like Jane. She's confrontational and has a lot of issues, but she's not a bad person. Worst she did was push John right after making sure he was okay.
>>
>>746680
As much as I hate Jane, it is only because nobody has done something actually bad yet. Everything is relative.

>>
What Pokemon would you like to see our friends get?
>>
>>746951
Someone get an Alola Muk down the line. They did mention Tabo had heavy pollution.

Val and Lilligant is a match made in heaven.

Hana and Tyranitar with her love of kaiju films.

Slowbro seems perfect for Polu to me.

I'm hoping Jane's third Pokemon is that Nuzleaf we beat.

Not really sure what would make sense for others.
>>
>>746951
I like the idea that Polu just stumbles into pokemon used by champions. So Beldum, Dratini, Feebas, etc.
With Keira, I'm wondering less what she'll catch and more what she'll do with Shedinja, since she can't train ghosts. I don't think we've seen her Tropius yet.
Valerie likes contests, so something like a Flabébé , oddish, or other flower mon would be suitable. Any cat would fit her pretty well too. (Come on Purrloin!)
Hana had, Togepi, right? She doesn't seem to know what she wants to do, so it's hard to say. Something about Solosis seems to fit though.
Laki is another one where her current team is more interesting than who she'll get. I'm interested to see how her relationship with Wailmer develops. Will she trade him away? Grow to love him? Fit trainers tend to use fighting types, so maybe a Scraggy, Pancham, or Croagunk? Spinda isn't fighting type, but might work in the "drunk boxing" sense.
Jane's team (with talonflame, possible Hitmontop) is looking very meta, so maybe something like Smeargle, Bagon, Ferroseed, etc.
>>
>>746843
>What qualifies as a bad person, in your mind?

She's doesn't intentionally cause problems for anyone else. The most wrong she did was push Herb in a puddle.

She's paranoid, but not bad.
>>
>>747089
>was push Herb in a puddle.
A puddle of vomit, to be exact.
>>
>>747089
She didn't want anyone to assist helping the Wailmer so she could get all the credit, and then stopped even trying to help it to try and battle people away. That's pretty intentional.
>>
>>747097
Dick move, but not THAT bad. All it will take is a serious issue to get the two to at least work together.

>>747109
That is her worst offense for sure.
>>
>>747109
>She didn't want anyone to assist helping the Wailmer so she could get all the credit,

She accused us of wanting to move it to take the credit, but her motivation could have been that it had to be though out first instead of just pushing it. She did go on about using your head to help.

>>
>>748726
Type spread mostly. We don't want to be too focused off the bat. Ket did ere towards psychic and dragon at the end, but that was mostly due to Bs catching a legendary for the former and unexpected fun interactions plus evos for the latter.

Okay, I don't remember if gobble ever gave a yes or no on omake, but here it goes.

You can't believe how long it feels since everybody's been together like this. Valerie's been on the competition circuit for a while now, Laki's been helping Hana with her film project, Keira's been on a Pilgrimage, and Polu's been training up in Eelilee. That's left you to wander a bit. Not that you mind of course. Your Pokémon are great company. But your friends... you guess you've missed them more than you realized.

Speaking of Polu, he was the one who invited everybody. Apparently his family owns a tiny strip of beach out here on Akenaki, with a little two-room surf shack on top. It's mostly reeds, but it's up off the ground and has a solid roof for when it rains. It's a cozy way to spend the end of a great day.

The girls have cleared out the storage room, and you're staying with Polu in his bunkroom. Laki had said something about "not giving your dad any more ideas" and "not letting your pervy ass try any shenanigans." Please, as if she's not the shenanigans prone type. If anything, she and Valerie should be separated. You noticed the way she eyes Her up and down. Well, you noticed eventually.

Regardless, you've changed into your pajamas when Polu walks in and starts stretching. He's really put in a lot of work making the most of this day for everyone. He's dug a barbecue pit, given Val and you surfing lessons, and even set up a bunch of beach furniture.

"So, Herb, you've been here a while now. How have you settled in?"

It's a good question. You have to admit that somewhere in the back of your mind, you were a little nervous when you first flew in. Mostly you were excited, but it's still hard, leaving behind all your old friends, a whole bunch of your family, all the culture you've known. But it's been made pretty easy by the fast friends you've made. Actually, it's a little scary to think about, but...

"You know, I think you guys have really made this place feel like home. I can't imagine what would have happened if Laki hadn't come and gotten me after Belladonna's egg got fractured, helped me start to get to know everyone. I might have just headed off on my own, ended up angry and alone like Jane."

You are Laki, and you've just heard your name through a thin reed wall. Oh, this is going to be interesting. You make a shushing gesture to the rest of the girls, and put your ear to the wall. Val, Keira, and Hana follow suit.

You are Herb. You're getting a little introspective now.

"Yeah, Laki's been great at getting me outside of my comfort zone. Keira's taught me so much, and really helped me focus on doing what I want. Val's always there when I'm homesick, or excited about something that nobody else seems to be. Hana's easy to open up to."

"Jeeze bro, have you ever spoken a harsh word?"

"Like, five times? I think? Like your one to talk. You're a pretty friendly guy yourself, especially with all the cute girls."

"Tch, yeah, whatever bro."
>>
>>749283
You share a laugh. Polu leans forwards from his seat.

"But no really, you're an empathetic guy." He pauses. "Can I share something personal with you?"

"Of course!" You know you aren't Polu's oldest friend, it means a lot that he's opening up to you. He gives a conspiratorial glance around the room, then gets right up to your ear. You doubt anybody could hear him even if they tried.

"Don't tell anyone, especially not any of the other surfers, but I'm... I'm a paddleboarder." You're not sure why this is so important. "Nobody takes a guy who paddleboards seriously in the surf scene. It's considered a geriatric's passtime." Oh, so that's it. You smile, lean back, and give a quick tap tap to the side of your nose.

"Hey! Don't worry about it. I totally understand where your coming from. I won't out you." And it's true too. You certainly know what it's like to not be taken seriously.

"Hey man, that's great to hear. I thought you might understand." You guess as long as you avoid saying anything specific, it's okay if you two keep talking at a normal speaking voice. "Actually, if you wanted, I could maybe show you...?"

"Sure!"

"Great, I think you're gonna love this bro." Polu reaches down and starts pulling straw out from the middle of the floor. Underneath is a huge surfboard, with a glossy gold inlay. It easily stretches from one corner of the room. It's actually really impressive.

"Whoa! Oh my god! That thing is huge! How'd you pack that thing in? Where'd you even get that?"

"From my dad, bro. Had it all my life. You like it?" Yeah you do. The design on this thing is wicked. But if it's a family heirloom, you'd better be careful with it.

"Can I touch it?"

"Go ahead and touch it as much as you like, bro. It's not every day I get to show this thing off." You guess that's a pretty good point. You hold out a hand and feel along the glossy surface, and it's every bit of smooth as the sheen suggests. But for some reason, the grain looks really rough. It's probably a pretty old board.

"How'd you get it so smooth?"

"Just gotta wax regularly bro. It takes some determination, but I think it's worth it. Makes the whole thing look a lot better." You hope you're not being too intrusive, but... it's such a stylish board!

"Do you think I could... you know... get on? Try it out?" That's funny, sounded like you heard something from the girls' room just then. Keira must be having a hard time settling down.

"Hah! Man, I was hoping you'd ask."

"Is there anything I should know first? I don't... really have too much experience with this sort of thing yet."

"Nah, just go ahead and do what feels natural." Okay then, just gotta hop right on.
>>
>>749286
"Alright, here I go..." As you get your second foot on though, the board starts to wobble. "Whoa! Holy hell, I wasn't expecting that! Oh! Wow!" It takes a couple of minutes, but eventually you get a feel for it, and you start to quiet down with concentration. You're just about ready to step off when you slip, and hit your ass on a knot in one of the support beams as you back up to steady yourself.

"Jeeze man, you really got into that. You gonna be okay?"

"Yeah, I'm gonna be fine. I'll probably feel it in the morning though." Man, Polu's such a good friend. "Actually, do you think maybe I could..." It's your turn to give the room a glance. Polu leans in to hear your secret. "I actually really, really love marmite. A lot of people say that indicates a dull palette, I just can't get enough of the stuff. Would you try some?" Polu leans back.

"Hah! Of course bro, I'd be happy to." You go and get your trusty jar and spoon, and hand it over to Polu. "Oh! Wow. I wasn't expecting it to be..."

"To be?" You hope he's not already disgusted just from the smell.

"To be, well, black." It smells pretty strong, too."

"You know, if you don't want to you don't have to-"

"No! Relax man, I do. Just let me get started here." Polu starts spooning the marmite around in the jar, testing the consistency by picking up a spoonful and plopping it back down into the jar. Shlip. Shlop. Shlorp. It takes a couple of minutes of sitting in silence, watching Polu puts about before you decide that nothing's going to happen. You sigh as you decide to let the poor boy off the hook.

"Polu, I-" Polu shoots you a determined look and shoves a whole spoonful in his mouth!

"*cough* Oh fuck! *cough* it's so salty!"

"I'm sorry, I should have warned you earlier!"

"No, it's fine, *cough* I just wasn't expecting it. I actually kind of like it."

"Polu, you don't have to say that for my sake."

"I'm serious, man!"

"Well thanks for doing that for me anyways."

"What are bros for, bro?" You smile and laugh a little while Polu gains his wind back. "I'm gonna clean up a bit now." He starts to cover up the paddleboard. "I'm really glad we got to know each other like this tonight."

"Me too. Can you imagine how embarrassing it would be to talk about these things with the girls?" Actually, they've been pretty quiet for a while now. At least they can't have heard anything important.

"Yeah man, I can imagine. Come on, let's get some fresh air before bed." As you exit, you notice a smudge of marmite in the corner of Polu's mouth.

"Hey man, you've got some you-know-what right here." Oh, it seems like Laki had the same idea, she's leaving the girls' room too. Polu hurriedly wipes the marmite off of his face and onto his fingers, which he sucks clean. Wait, something seems off about Laki.
>>
>>749288
So anyways this has definitely been one of the top ten gayest things ive ever done. I hope I made it apparent just what the girls could hear. This ship probably won't happen so I had to get it in somewhere. Goodnight, hope it was funny, and yes, in my version of events John went to bed kind of aroused and didn't know why. Laki explained nothing.

Actually, looking into weather a bit, there are a bunch of weird interactions and asymmetries. Like, sunny weather doubles the effects of "growth." Like, castform has a forme for rain, sun, hail, and other, but not sandstorm. But sandstorm still has an effect on weather ball. Rain boosts water moves 50% and sun boosts fire moves 50%, but sandstorm boosts the special defense of rock, ground, and steel types 50%. Hail just doesn't boost things without specific abilities. Rain makes hurricane and thunder hit 100% of the time. And so on. Castform has a whole load of tactical depth.
>>
>>752265
>sandstorm boosts the special defense of rock, ground, and steel types 50%
Only rock types get the boost.
>>
>>752265
Weather is fun like that. One thing we need to keep in mind is that that changes weather could be shorter duration here if it doesn't match the extreme changes.
>>
>>752360
See this is exactly the weird asymmetry I'm talking about. Three types give immunity to sandstorm damage, three types are boosted by the sand force ability, but only rock gets the defense boost?
>>
>>752854
Ground and Steel don't need it as much as rock.
>>
>>752866
That's fair. But it's still tricky to keep track of. Even just using weather ball on castform is complicated. Normally it has a base power of 50. So in normal weather, castfirm will be normal type, give it stab, and that will make 75 bp. In sun, the base power doubles. The move and castform become fire type, so it still gets stab. It also gets a boost from being a fire type move in the sun. This makes the base power 225. Castfirm's weather ball in the rain also has a base power of 225, for the same sort of reasons. In hail, it's 150. In sandstorm it's 100.

Looking at castform, it's actually a pretty good pokemon for beauty competitions. And I think the only tms it wants are sandstorm and thunder.
>>
>>752893
Oh, and solar beam
>>
>>752893
>>752911
That's a pretty good argument for it. I like the idea of a Pokemon that can fill a lot of different roles. Especially if we want to focus more on having less.

Castform seems like a really good idea, now. It helps that they're cute and small, too.
>>
>>753048
Actually, now that I think about it, and since gobble seems to be making a point of keeping us informed of our environment, there are opportunities for other weather effects not included in the games.

For instance, did you know that in gen 4 there was a glitch called "acid rain"? It was all 4 weathers mashed together, and most pokemon were damaged by all of them. This meant those pokemon lost 1/4 max hp every turn. I'd like to see acid rain deal the normal 1/16 per round, heal poison types 1/16 per round, and deal 1/8 per round to grass, water, ground, and steel types.

Water spouts, tornadoes which touch down over water, can bring with them animals which live in the water. Then it rains frogs, or fish, or jellyfish. I'd like to see this as a move which must be charged, but then both boosts water type's defense and reduces non-water types speed. Or something. It's a weird one.

Alternatively, a locust swarm could do something similar with bug types instead of water types.

It would be cool if going from rain to sun caused a rainbow which boosted fairies somehow.

Ash fall should do something, but fire type already has sun. Ghost maybe?

Moonless night would be good for dark and ghosts.
>>
>>753514
Ash fall might just ruin electric type moves like mud sport.

>>753580

Actually if I recall, Dan seemed to get some sort of bonus in bright areas as a steel type.

Your opponent would have to waste a turn switching to their defogger, then use a turn actually using it, or instead eat several turns of shitty damage

>>753822
>owlbro has the shittiest signature move
The only ways that could be useful is if it either has another move that does something amazing on crit (which would be a neat synergy), or if it's an attack that does decent damage instead of being a pure support move like it sounds to be, or if it guarantees crits for the next several turns instead of just one.
>>
>>753870
It's also useful for breaking through defensive boosts. Basically gives the next attack "chip away" in addition to raising damage.

>So Gobble work still a pain?
It's nuts. But I won't be working Saturday. Work ebbs and flows, but mostly flows. I'm quitting over the next 3 moths and they'll be phasing me out, so I'm hoping I'll have more time to run. But they say a lot of things so we'll see.

> Any mons you really hoping we might run across?
A few, but honestly it's more about the individual. Before IVs were really understood, there was a sense that every Pokemon was individually a little different. I've always liked the idea of Pokemon that go outside of expectations and do their own thing.
>>
>>755338
As much as I love stat autism, when it comes to the quest format I was thinking just having a general sense of stats was best. Like going from: Worst, Bad, Mediocre, Average, Good, Great, Amazing
>>

Any prospects on a new job?

Will you let us make new moves again later?

I'd like a Dragonair. Always loved the sleek, simple yet elegant design.

I'll go going to school for about 5 months. There's a two week time around Christmas that will be wide open for me and I'll run pretty much whenever I'm not sleeping.

Could Belladonna learn a poisoned variations of vine whip?
>>
>>755486
Fun Fact: The Roselia family never actually learns Vine Whip (or anything similar); not even as Roserade, the "It has whips" Pokemon (according to its Pokedex entries).

So yeah, that's something that deserves to be changed from the games I feel. From there I don't see why not; Roserade's whips are said to have poisonous thorns on them anyway.
>>
>>755561
Yeah, other ideas is to create a poison weather effect and call it nightshade rain.
>>
>>755642
The only possible benefit I'd see to that would be a Poison based Weather Ball. Otherwise it seems like a bad idea given it'd poison friend, foe, and spectators alike when something like Toxic / Toxic Spikes should be good enough without risking the well being of everyone around us.

On the subject of poison though - I think it would be neat to train a Venom Drench effect onto some of Bella's poisoning moves. Anything not immune would be seriously weakened in a single shot.
>>
>>755703
>it seems like a bad idea given it'd poison friend, foe, and spectators alike

Well it might not inflict poison. Hail doesn't cause frozen. But on the other hand, if it did cause poison, it'd be pretty cute to have herb hand out umbrellas to everybody before the start of a match. And even if we did have to pull it out in an emergency and everyone got poisoned, that's exactly what aromatherapy's for, right?
>>
>>755728
I think they'd appreciate not being poisoned in the first place; but that's just me.

Frankly, regardless of how it works I don't see it being worth it outside of really niche applications like throwing poison Weather Balls. Nothing else on our team would benefit from it, and frankly I don't think Bella would much either; if anything, sunlight is what she should be focusing on in terms of interactions with abilities, attacks, etc.

Though this is just the opinion of a guy who doesn't get the fascination some people have with making a weather team. Especially not a weather team where there is zero synergy from one weather type to the next.
>>
>>755850
I can understand weather not being your thing, but what exactly do you mean by "no synergy from one weather type to the next"?
>>
>>755642
I just have to say, poison rain sounds like a really fucking terrible idea.

Yeah, we could probably do it, and it would probably be effective in battle, but this seriously sounds more like something Team Imperium would do with their mutant pokemon. I imagine it would fuck over the wildlife and environment wherever we use it (even if we do it inside or something, because that poison has to go somewhere), and it would piss the fuck out of anybody who sees it used because we would be poisoning the land that they live on.

I cannot see this being even remotely sane or worth it.
>>
>>755642
Gotta agree with the others. Fuck the unnatural Acid Rain.
>>
>>755850
Weather is just an idea for down the line. We would need to get more Pokemon that could benefit from it than two to make it a team wide gimmick.

For now though we need to hopefully win this battle and do a training session with Mace since we still haven't done that.
>>
So how about that new trailer huh? I wan but expecting grass/ghost. Tapu z-move is cool. Psychic terrain looks fun. Battle tree looks fun.
>>
>>756264

>>
>>756264

>>756311

Do you think we'll beat Jane?
>>
>>757152
we're 2v1, we should be able to beat her if we don't fuck up the rolls

We can also use best rock against her fletchling, which is a very good type match for us
>>
>>757152
Well, by forcing the fist switch in a 2v2 match when both members have 3 pokemon to select from, we've swung ourselves a pretty large advantage. This way, we're able to best react to her team building. We've already chosen Mace, so mace vs. fletchling is looking pretty good for us. After that we should have a 2v1 if she decides to give tyrogue another chance.

But we should keep in mind that other trainers, especially one as competitive as Jane, can take advantage of the quest battling system, as well as general pokemon mechanics.

Because her tyrogue knows theif, we know that she has access to TM moves. There's not much that scary that fletch king has access to, but we could be in trouble if it has Steel Wing. Alternatively, we might get unlucky and have fletchling be really close to leveling up. It could k.o. Mace with a worst case scenario 300 base attack flail, evolve from the victory, and then belladonna is faceing a fletchinder. I assume that evolving grants some health back, more so than just the change in base stats.

Even if Bella did end up beating fletchinder/fletchling, she'd still have to eat at least one hit from tyrogue, who I believe was faster.

Overall, we've set ourselves up for success, but fletchling is too unknown to say for certain.

In Internet culture, the 1% rule is a rule of thumb pertaining to participation in an internet community, stating that only 1% of the users of a website actively create new content, while the other 99% of the participants only lurk. Variants include the 1-9-90 rule (sometimes 90–9–1 principle or the 89:10:1 ratio),[1] which states that in a collaborative website such as a wiki, 90% of the participants of a community only view content, 9% of the participants edit content, and 1% of the participants actively create new content.

How hard would Mace REEEEEE if he accidentally EVo'd?
>>
>>758123
I can only imagine he'd be devestated.

It does bring up a good question - how intentional is evolution? Zappy Dan seemed to evolve against his will, and Eevee positively ran from that fire stone. But neither of those were bog standard level up evolutions.

I feel like if Mace starts to evolve, whether it be against his will or in some sort of attempt at heroic sacrifice, we need to shut that shit down with the pokedex.

In fact, we should probably make sure that Gobble and Bella understand what evolving would entail for them. I expect Bella to want to grow up, and I hope she'll wait until she's learned Worry Seed.

Gobble I'm not so sure about. I think I'd like him to meet a snorlax and talk about it first.
>>
>>757995
good in other internet communities, but I think quests are different. In quests, participation is rewarded, as it lets you influence a story you've become invested in. This makes more people post than in threads on other boards

though if you look at how the poster count rockets up for a big vote, it would seem we have very many lurkers
>>
>>758247
Oh, I absolutely am more likely to vote for something if I have a stronger opinion on it. If I'm not confident about a choice, or don't care how it goes, I'll just let you guys handle it.

I try to vote on every choice I'm present for. I'm a fan of Gobble QM style, so I try to be vocal if I can. Tho I tend to lurk when I've fallen behind a thread or such because of work or school.
>>
>>758666
I only jumped onto this quest at the start of the elite four, but the style of this quest is super inclusive and I've gotten into the habit of commenting and voting and trying to toss out stipulations, alternatives or new options whenever I think of them because it leads to discussion and often times more options.

That and Gobble is really good about taking on board all input where possible, so it makes for a really good group-storytelling endeavor.
>>
>>758745
I agree, I started back at the beginning of Gobble's first quest and I've always been surprised by how well Gobble interacts with everyone.
>>
So we've got one more day to kill before the next thread starts up, what do people think everyone's theme song is?

I like something chill for Herb, like "No Rain" by blind melon or "What I Got" by sublime. But those might work better for Polu instead.

Come to think of it, it probably takes a few songs to get a sense for the character- most songs have a theme but characters have a few. It's hard to find one song for a character. It'd probably have to reflect something really cute to their personality, like what their outlook on life or guiding philosophy is. It's probably be easier to start there and work backwards.

Hana is very much about moving on and self-discovery right now.

Keira pulls from the live-hard die-inevitably tenants of her clergy.

Laki... she had a clear goal, but now I'm not sure whether she's getting the nerve up to try again or reluctantly looking for some new source of meaning.

There's plenty of songs about being rich, but that's not really what Val is about. She seems pretty confident in who she is, (as much as a kid can be), she's more about how she'll confidently show that off to the world.

Jane's desperate to be accepted as a naitive. She's about getting in touch with her roots, but what she needs is to learn to find validation from within.

Not sure what to say about Polu other than "chill dude." Either that kid needs to find some ambition, or we need to get to know him a bit better. I suggest we take him on a date.
>>
>>759285
I'm going to attempt to give every character an Avantasia song:

Jane is probably 'Lost in Space' and 'Master of the Pendulum'
Keira seems like 'Wake up to the Moon'
Polu is 'A Restless Heart and Obsidian Skies'
Hana is 'Draconian Love' and 'The Story ain't Over'
And Laki is 'Unchain the Light' with maybe some 'Mystery of a Blood Red Rose'

Herb is 'Babylon Vampyres'.

For the last, you need to listen to it and then think of the playerbase to understand why.
>>
>>759450
And I forgot Valerie.
Hmm...
I'm going to go with 'Dweller in a Dream', although I don't think we've seen enough of her to really tell.

Avantasia gets kind of existential and philosophical, but riches aren't a theme they deal with much.
>>
>>759285
>That last point
Polu does have a goal though. More than Herb at least. He wants to take on the gyms to get better so he can deal with people that cause problems. Given Polu wanting to release Volcarona and Spiritomb being so volatile I could see him ending up as a Ranger with Aggron as his fully evolved partner.
>>
Can Jane be redeemed?

What would it take? Unflinching attempts at friendship? Beating her so badly she has no choice but to do some serious reflecting? Hot dickings?
>>
>>759792
A mix of a few things.
>>
>>759792
Change can really only come from within. All we can do is try and give her a chance.
>>
>>759834
>only come from within

So the hot dickings, then.
>>
>>759927
It's not the dicking in your pants that matters, it's the dicking in your heart.
>>
>>759792
She's built herself a fortress of paranoia, rationalizations, and bravado that she uses to reinforce that her beliefs and actions are always correct (or at least necessary), and this lattice of beliefs needs to be broken before she'll start to come around. Above all, she needs to somehow be made vulnerable, then be met with sincere comfort and acceptance so she can see that the people around her aren't going to abandon or betray her for failing to be Superwoman.

That said, there's not much that can really be morally done to put her into that position. She has to fail of her own accord rather than because of any manipulation, because if we try to manipulate things or break her down she's just going to turtle harder and refuse to reach out because we'll just be affirming that her beliefs are correct.

We have to keep trying to connect with her, and hope that we'll be there to help her when she inevitably goes too far and everything crumbles down around her.
>>
>>759981
Or we could just leave her alone.
She goes off and does her thing, we do ours, and hopefully never meet again.
>>
>>760302
The size of the islands and conservation of detail makes this unlikely. Chances are we'll be interacting with her plenty more regardless of our relationship. Might as well try to make friends.
>>
>>760302
Wishful thinking, but it isn't gonna happen.
>>
>>760323

There are ways to force those interactions. It's not really in Herb's character to do those sorts of things tho. I know of at least one character that would know exactly that to do with Jane.
>>
>>760378
Gobble has said that the islands are small enough that even if we don't travel together we will meet all the trainers we started with often enough.
>>
>>759981
Hopefully we'll have a chance at showing her some kindness after we beat her ass with Mace.
>>
>>760355
you don't understand how narratives work, do you?
>>
>>761059
Although to be fair, this is far from a traditional narrative. Most of the time plot elements don't vary depending on who the audience is and how lucky they are.

I imagine Laki wouldn't be as impressed with us if we didn't pull off all those cribs that seem to happen whenever she's looking. In a novel, those events wouldn't have felt earned. But because we rolled them, they're super satisfying.

If we made a point of it, I'm sure we could avoid Jane. But that sounds like the boring option to me.
>>
>>761202
agreed, but ultimately, Gobble is still the author, and he makes the story that we get to vote on.

And with the amount of characterization the core group has had, I doubt any of them are going to fade away into the background. It would just feel cheap, like if we just ignored all the plot points to fuck around with the waifus and surf
>>
>>761246
Yeah, a lot of the responsibility for an interesting story falls to us to make interesting decisions. I'm not sure I'd like to see what would happen if we just ignored all plot hooks and character arcs. It'd at least make things less enjoyable for gobble, I assume.
>>
>>761271
The last time people ignored plot points, Hornbeam happened.

As to making interesting decisions, that's entirely what that first vote regarding getting between Jane and Laki was about, along with falling for Laki and Keira's little joke with the hula skirt.

It's shit like that that's going to make this fun, kind of like Kat's pickpocketing.
>>
>>761339
We didn't ignore Hornbeam though. We let other people deal with him after fighting him off and yet he just kept escalating.

Anyways yes, things are looking to have some interesting moments.
>>

Yeah, they all have beaches, but I guess those ones have the biggest beaches. They're definitely sand, at least. Who knows, maybe we'll get cool desert episodes. Maybe by then Bella will be ready to meet some cute cactus boys. If I'm lucky we'll get to see some cool ground types.
