You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

Currently, you've just managed to successfully negotiate the safe return of Scott and Arty from Felicity, while at the same time convincing her to take your data without verifying it.

Of course, you had to let her have her way with you in return, but the less you spoke about that the better.

Well anyways, you've got the data, and you got your crew back. What now?

>Better go and analyze that data.
>See if Scott and Artya are okay.
>Let Elizabeth and Carly worry about all that and eke out what vacation you have left with Tank.

You decide now was the best time to check in on Scott and Artya. Make sure that they were all okay.

"Elizabeth." You nod to your disguised spy as you covertly pass off the data drive to her. "Get this analyzed ASAP. I want to know what Felicity was looking for in here."

"Of course." Elizabeth nods back as she quickly shuffles off.

You meanwhile exit the spa, get yourself dressed, and head straight for the lobby, where Carly, Scott, and Artya are waiting for you. You see them at the bar, with Scott drowning his anxiety and alcohol while Artya just politely watches. Carly meanwhile just looks absolutely relieved as she hugs Artya from behind.

And in the background, you could see Tank in his full battle armor lurking, keeping a watchful eye on you all from afar.

"Hey, Scott, how are you holding up?" You ask as you take a set next to him.

"I nearly died!" Scott groans drunkenly as he downs another mug of beer.

HE'S JUST OVERREACTING. Artya scribbles on the bar, much to the annoyance of the bartender bot.

"We were taken hostage by PIRATES!" Scott wailed. "I was surprised they didn't just have their way with us!"

NOT ALL PIRATES ARE LIKE THAT. Artya scribbles, her tensed hand signifying she was a little more than annoyed with Scott's comment.

"Yeah!" Carly says in agreement as she sticks her tongue out at Scott.

Oh jeez, looks like you need to lighten up the tension between the two.

>They didn't hurt either of you, did they?

"Well, if it's any consolation, Scott." You point to your new set of twintails, which you had completely forgotten to undo. "Their captain sorta had her way with me."

"Jeez, really?" Scott gasps. "I didn't think about that... they look kinda cute on you, by the way."

"Ummm, thanks?"

"Ha! You look like a little kid now!" Carly snorts.

"Coming from the ACTUAL little kid." You retort.

Artya trembles and her mask rasps loudly as she's presumably doing her version of a laugh.

And that's when you realize Tank is right behind you, leaning down and glaring at you. Apparently he overheard what you said and he wants to know what exactly Felicity did to you.

"Why do you sound so bummed out at that?" Carly gives a smug grin.

"Oh right, I forgot to completely undo these." You nod as you let Tank untie your new twintails. As always, his precision even with his massive armored fingers was masterful. Soon enough your hair was back to its normal self.

And that's when Tank taps you on the shoulder and puts his hand in front of your face. There, wedged in between two of his fingers, were a pair of small electronic devices.

"The hell are those?" You blink.

"Those look like subspace trackers." Scott notes, still able to do his job despite his buzzed state. "Really high end ones, too. You can track their signal from a few hundred AU."

Tank points to your hair again, indicating he found those hidden in your hair ties.

"Clever bitch." You sigh.

"So what are we gonna do with those?" Carly asks.

Tank then looks at you, wondering what to do next. After all, this was going to be your least day here before you had to return to the Gullinbursti and active duty.

Well, this was your last opportunity to do something special with Tank while nobody was hovering over you!

"Hey Tank, how about we go do something?" You say as you wink at him.

Tank just nods silently.

"Ugh." Carly rolls her eyes, as she already sees through your intentions. "I guess I'll just chaperone Artya and Scott here. You two lovebird go on ahead."

"It's not like that, Carly." You huff.

"How about we go diving?" You suggest to Tank.

Tank pauses for a moment before nodding. Sure, why not.

"Nice!" You grin. You had always wanted to dive underwater at some point. You've heard it was similar to space walking, but far more interesting.

Artya finally manages to pull Scott away from the bar and they shuffle off to go wherever they were going, with Carly in two to keep an eye on them. Tank checks his datapad for a second to look up possible diving spots.

>Easy dive. Relatively shallow water, but you'll be running into lots of other tourists.

"Hey, how about this?" You point to the section on the map flagged as a shipwreck. "That looks interesting."

Tank gives you a curious look, wondering if you're sure. That shipwreck is a dangerous place, especially for beginning divers.

"Hey, I took some dive training." You pout. "Plus you'll be there, right?"

Tank shakes his head but acquiesces.

"Anyways, I heard that there might be treasure hidden in there, right?"

Tank shrugs. According to the brochures, the ship crashed here decades ago, or maybe even up to a century. Either way, it was long enough that nobody really remembered what the ship was or why it was here, much less how it crashed. Of course, there were plenty of salvage missions and exploratory dives, but nothing of particular value was found.

However, there still sections of the ship that remained unexplored or sealed, their secrets yet to be uncovered. Maybe they held something valuable or dangerous, or nothing at all?

Tank shakes his head again. It's obviously just bullshit written by PR guys wanting to draw in more tourists.

"Well, it's working. I'm genuinely interested!" You grin. "Come on!"

Tank finally nods and the two of you make your way back to the marina. This time, you stop by one of the stores renting out diving gear. Tank of course takes his armored dive suit. However, you have a couple more options...

>Bare skin. The most extreme diving challenge.

You decide to pick out the wetsuit. You figure even with the tropical climate, the deeper water would be pretty damn cold. In addition, the wetsuit was streamlined enough that you would be able to move fairly freely, especially in the narrow confines of a sunken starship.

It of course is a bit of chore to get the damn thing on, but the clerk playfully points out that he's seen a lot more customers have more trouble.

It... it was the breasts, wasn't it...?

ANYWAYS, now that you and Tank were kitted out, you rent out a small yacht and start making your way over to the sunken ship site.

Again, you sit on the open deck and enjoy the warm tropical breeze as Tank drives. However, on the way, Tank turns, obviously curious. Were you really going to search for sunken treasure?

"Well of course!" You grin. "Who says Carly can hog the pirate spotlight?"

Tank nods absentmindedly and halts the yacht, lowing the anchor to keep it in place. Looks like you were at your destination.

Tank, already wearing his dive armor, is the first over, you suspect so that he can check the water to make sure its safe. He drops in with a loud SPLASH, dropping a bit of that water into the boat and on you. He disappears for a while, before his head pops back though the surface, his armor activating small antigrav drives to keep his armor buoyant. He gives the all clear signal.

You recall your old swimming classes in the academy, and try to ignore the old memories your abject jealousy of your classmates whenever you all stood around next to each other with swimsuits on...

ANYWAYS, you leap off the side of the boat in a perfect feet first dive, plunging right into the water. You can immediately feel the warm tropical water splashing up against your wetsuit, and you close your breathing mask over your head before dipping down under the waves.

Tank likewise powers down his antigrav drives as his armor begins to sink him to the bottom. You have your own little antigrav drive looped around your waist as belt to control your own buoyancy.

And that's when you see it. A school of what look to be fish heading towards you. You quickly pat Tank on the shoulder and point, and Tank looks over, instinctively pulling out a pistol, just in case.

"Wait!" You yelp to Tank, pushing the pistol so it wasn't pointing.

As the sea creatures got closer, you began to see that it wasn't a school of fish, but a pod of dolphins!

Fucking sweet!

Now, you weren't totally sure if these dolphins were native to Palm Isle, or if they were imported here for tourism purposes. You honestly wouldn't be surprised at either possibility. The dolphins don't even hesitate and start circling around you playfully, doing barrel rolls and spins.

A few even pass close by and rub their bodies against your wetsuit, at least until Tank bats them away.

"Tank!" You scold.

Tank glares at the dolphins. He's read the stories about how they were the RAPISTS OF THE SEA, and he wasn't letting any of them near you.

"Don't be silly, Tank!" You roll your eyes. "That's just an urban legend."

Tank is not convinced.

And oddly enough, you notice one of the dolphins nudging you with its beak. You turn to look at it and it dives down toward the sunken ship below. You fully deactivate your antgrav drive and swim down to keep up. The dolphin swims around to one end of the ship and points itself at a small point where the hull met the sea floor.

And that's when you see it. A small opening that had been rent open by a rock or the force the crash, almost completely hidden by the sand. You would have totally missed it if the dolphin hadn't pointed it out to you.

"You want me to go in there?" You ask the dolphin, forgetting that it probably couldn't even hear you, much less understand you.

Yet the dolphin make a nodding noise.

"Do you even know what's in there?"

The dolphin shakes its head. You somehow get feeling this is like talking to Tank.

Tank then touches down behind you, the weight of his armor causing a huge cloud of sand to billow up from under his feet. Looking at his armor, you could tell he wouldn't be able to fit through the hole. If you wanted to go in, you'd have to leave him behind.

The reason Tank is scarred and stuff is because when they were doing the genetic psyker experiments on Sam there was an accident and he got caught in it, causing both the scarring and the mental link. Some kind of spooky psyker explosion.

"Okay..." You take a deep breath to calm yourself. "Tank, you stay watch out here. I'm gonna go in and check this out."

Tank puts a hand on your shoulder out of concern.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine." You grin as you check your air supply. You were still good for an hour. "If I'm not out in thirty minutes, then you can barge your way in."

Tank nods and reluctantly lets you go. With both him and dolphin watching, you wriggle your way inside, the combination of your wetsuit and small stature making you the perfect size.

And then you were in. Of course, the interior was pitch black, so you activate your flashlight and start looking around. And then something catches your eye. A sign covered in coral and moss. You brush it aside to see a set of faded and corroded, but still recognizable, words.

You decide to follow the sign leading to the data archive. You're not sure if there's any salvageable data in there anymore, but, well, it can't hurt to try. Fortunately, the door to the archive looks to have been jarred open by the crash, meaning you didn't have to pry it open yourself. You swim further inside and immediately see the rows of servers, holding who knows what within their corroded circuits.

However, everything was dark and unpowered. You sort of wonder if there was even anything to recover, or if these servers would even turn on.

And that's when you see it. A small, bright orange panel that had a manual lever with the faded out label:

You pull the lever.

For a few seconds, nothing happens. For a brief moment, you think the whole system had broken down.

And then a hum, and you see a screen, an ancient 2D display, wink on.

DATA RETRIEVAL ACTIVATED. POWERING UP REACTOR CORE.

And the whole ship begins to hum with power as ancient lights and machinery begin to wink on.

DATA RETRIEVAL PROCESS INITIATED: 10%

Well so far so good-

And that's when all the lights go red, and you start feeling the water getting warmer. You see another flashing screen and glance at it.

WARNING. REACTOR COOLANT SYSTEM OFFLINE

INITIATING MANUAL COOLING. MELTDOWN IMMINENT.

So that was why the water was getting warmer. The ship was attempting to dump its excess reactor heat into the water around it. If you stayed here too long, you'd be boiled alive.

Just a few more seconds... You eye the progress screen with anxiety as both the meter and the water temperature climb. It was absolutely sweltering now, like you were in a spa. Your wetsuit was also starting to shrink and contract due to the heat, further squeezing your body.

DATA RETRIEVAL COMPLETE

With that, the console ejects its black box, which funnily enough was bright orange. You grab it and start swimming frantically for the entrance point. However, by this point, the water temperature was starting to scald you, even through your protective wetsuit. Everything just start feeling so heavy and your movements were getting more sluggish...

Your vision was starting to blur, whether from the heat or your goggles clouding over, you weren't sure, but you knew that wasn't a good sign. You struggle for the exit as the water starts to boil. However, you see the figurative and literal light at the end of the tunnel as you near the hull breach. Tank is already there, reaching his armored hand through. You grab it, wincing as how hot to the touch his gauntlet was. Tank easily pulls you through, but it's getting hard to breath now and you're too dizzy as your vision starts to black out.

The last thing you remember is the sensation of floating...

---

The next time you open your eyes, you're blinded by harsh white ceiling lights.

"Oh dear, it looks like you're conscious now." Natalia says smoothly.

"Nat...?" You groan as you look up to see your doctor. She's wearing the standard doctor's coat, but over some rather skimpy summer wear. It was obvious that she had been called over in a hurry.

"You've been quite the naughty girl." Natalia tuts. "Swimming near unshielded and active reactors like that? Not only did you get some rather nasty burns over most of your body, but you also picked up some minor radiation poisoning."

"What, really?!" You go pale.

"Oh, don't worry, it was nothing serious. At least nothing that couldn't be treated by me." Natalia reassures her with a hint of smugness.

"Where are we, anyways?" You look around.

"PalmSec's private hospital." Natalia explains.

Wait, that meant-

Oh crap.

"SAAAAAAAAAAAAM!" Luc wails as she barges through the doors, ready to bear hug you.

"I'm sorry, but the patient isn't ready for visitors." Natalia forces a smile as she grabs your academy friend by the ear, stopping her in her tracks and drags her back towards the door. "I don't want you making her injuries worse."

"But waaaaaait!" Luc cries. "Saaaaaaam!"

"Don't worry, I'll see you soon!" You grin as the door closes.

And that's when you notice something in the room.

"Tank." You acknowledge his presence.

Tank just glares at you. He was PISSED.

"I'm sorry for making you worry like that." You sigh in resignation. "I realize what I did was real stupid, risking my life for some data that might not even useful."

Tank just looks on silently before quickly striding over to you. You wince as you're briefly afraid of what he might do.

And that's when Tank pats you on the head with his armored hand. He could never stay mad at you. You're his Captain, after all.

But he's still taking charge of your care. Natalia recommends that you stay in bed for at least another day before she's sure you can be safely transferred to the Gullinbursti.

"Well, that's good, I guess."

"So, did we get anything useful out of that black box or not?" You ask.

Tank shrugs. He handed it over to Elizabeth, but apparently a combination of age, exposure to seawater, and the extreme temperature caused a lot of damage to the black box. A majority of the data was corrupted beyond repair, but once Lida and Scott come back, they might be able to glean something from it.

"Ah, shame." You sigh. "Well, it looks like I gotta spend the rest of my vacation here, I guess."

Tank nods.

Still, it would suck to still be bedridden this whole time, and your body ached and stung all over from the burns.

"Hey, Tank, Nat wouldn't happen to have anything..."

Tank sets down a vial on the table next to you. Apparently Nat already knew you were going to ask something like this and made something in preparation. Of course, Tank was not enthusiastic about you willingly using yourself as a guinea pig for Natalia's experiments, but he wasn't going to stop you.

"Thanks, sweetie." You coo as you take the vial and down it.

The moment you drink the vial, you begin to feel immediately better. In fact, your skin no longer hurt so bad when you moved it.

"Ahhhh, so you tried the concoction?" Natalia appears next to you, scanner in hand. "At least it worked as intended. Actually, a little better than that!"

"What did it do?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Well, in addition to mostly soothing your current burns, it appears to have made your skin more burn resistant!" Natalia smiles. "Isn't that wonderful?"

"Y-yeah, I guess." You nod. You guess that could be kind of useful.

"Anyways, Tank, shall we go? The Captain needs her rest." Natalia continues.

Tank nods. He'll keep watch outside.

"All right, see you soon." You grin.

You watch Tank and Natalia leave, and the door slides shut with a silent hiss. Well, almost silent. You can still hear Tank and Natalia doing their best to keep Luc out.

You still feel a bit bad for making Tank worry like that, as well as fiddling around with a crashed ship's systems. If it weren't for Tank, well, you'd probably have been boiled. You gotta remember to thank him somehow for that.

However, your thoughts are interrupted with a loud yawn. Looks like one of the side effects of Natalia's concoction was to make you a bit drowsy. Seeing as there was no reason not to, you let yourself drift off into oblivion.

You were going to be pretty busy from here on out, after all.
