Two Pokemon and An Egg

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics are up in the air. Suggestions are welcome. I want to try to move it a bit away from just having video game mechanics of trading blows.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Egg ???

Recently: You've come to the mountain edge of the first island with Laki, Keira, Valerie, Polu, and Hana. You helped fight off Slugma and Magcargo and contained them back into their rock enclosures. Mace has decided to join your team.

“How do you feel about the name Mace?”

Mace, your Roggenrola, nods assertively. He rolls around a few feet here and there energetically before trying to give Gobbs a high five. Gobbs just sort of lets it happen without caring one way or the other.

The group starts settling in for the night. The stars are bright and there’s a little fire going. Everyone loves the food you prepared.

Keira sits next to you on the log. The fire light is making her face paint really dance.

“So, where’s your egg from, anyways?” She gently reaches over to touch it.

The others all lean in to hear. Looks like they’ve all been a little curious about it.

“It’s from my grandpa’s daycare. He gave it to me.”

“Wow.” She gets right in your face and stares at you. There’s something unnerving about her innocent eyes behind that concealing paint. You still can’t tell if she’s wearing a tight shirt or not. She whips around and looks to Valerie. “Did your grandpa get you one too? Is it one of your traditions?”

Valerie shies away. “My grandpa gave me a yacht.”

There’s a round of audible surprise and awe

“It’s not a very big one! Really! Only four cabins!”

Her attempts to downplay backfire. Hana and Laki look especially impressed. You get the feeling that Hana knows the most about the outside world. She asks if it’s like the one in Giant Tentacruel Attack 4: The Smashening.

As they’re chatting, you notice that Gobble is taking food from Lillipup. Now Aron! He eats it in one bite before they have a chance to react.

Lillipup looks crushed. Aron looks ready to fight.

The others start noticing too. Valerie walks over and gives Gobble a quick bop on the head. Not enough to actually hurt him, but he does flinch from it. “Bad! Bad Pokemon! Don’t pick on Lillipup like that! She’s sensitive.”

Yeah, other people disciplining our Pokemon is a bit objectionable to me. Rest is just problem solving essentially.
>>
>>678735
Right I prefer Laki's fit hard set up. I also like her aggressive attitude.

You can like the other chick, I just don't see it.
>>
>>678735
She's super fit, I'm sure. Plus, the line about her eyes looking innocent behind her face paint evokes a nice mental picture. Plus, she's clearly interested in our learning more about us, or she wouldn't be getting so close and asking so many questions. We should take this opportunity to get to know each other better.

“She’s right, Gobble. It’s not okay to take things that don’t belong to you.”

Gobble looks up at you like you’re not making sense.

“He’s still hungry,” Keira says.

“Don’t need to be a priestess to figure that out,” Polu jokes. Gobble is already looking for more food.

You get up and start rummaging through your bag. You’ll be running out of food soon at this pace, but you still have your money your sister gave you. “I’ll just make some more. How’s that sound?”

Polu already has a handful of berries from his bag, and Valerie has a few poffins from her purse. “You sure, bro?”

“Yeah. It’s no big deal.”

The other two accept that. Their Pokemon do prefer your cooking to the other options, after all.

You put your pan over the fire and get to work. Using a campfire presents all sorts of new challenges compared to a stove. “Hey, Valerie?”

Valerie looks to you and cocks her head.

“Could you not discipline my Pokemon?”

She looks like she’s going to apologize, but changes her mind. “I didn’t really hurt him or anything.”

“Yeah, but that’s not the point. You-”

Laki gets up and puts you in a headlock. “He’s trying to say that it’s not your place. Aren’t you, Soft Hands?” She gives you a light nuggy. “But he’s too wussy to say it firmly.”

>No you’re not! Firmly tell Valerie to come to you first next time

Breasts are living beings in symbiotic relationship attached to their hosts. It explains why they seem to have a mind of their own in the way they move and bounce.
Girls aren't failing to eat ice cream, they're sharing with their breasts, who absorb the nutrients through the skin.
>>
[Looks like we have an even tie. Let's do a quick revote and eliminate all but the two most popular options. If this one results in a tie after 5 minutes, the next vote will act as a tiebreaker.

This is not a quote-only vote.]

You're not sure what to do. Your instincts tell you to appease Laki. You could apologize to her for not standing up for yourself. Yeah. That's a good idea.

But you also feel a faint surge of pride somewhere in your body. You want to prove you're not being a wuss. You want to tell Valerie firmly but politely not to discipline your Pokemon without your consent.

Agreed. I know neither of the girls meant it that way, but they're both being a little inconsiderate. We're not in the wrong, and we should establish that we're not a wimp.

>>
>>679011
Yeah, definitely. Like I said, I don't think either of them meant to come across the way they did. Laki is being unintentionally condescending, and Valerie seems to genuinely have not realized that someone might take offense to what she just did. She's a sheltered rich girl, and that's the extent of it.
>>
Oh man her arms are firm but her chest is soft. This is so embarrassing.

Your eyes fall to Gobble and Mace. They’re just observing, seeing what you’re going to do.

You won’t let this be how it is. You’re not a wuss! “Valerie! Next time you have a problem, you come right to me first, okay? Gobble is my Pokemon and I’ll handle it!” You face goes from stern to apologetic about your tone to stern again.

Valerie looks surprised, but accepting. “Okay. Sure. I will.” You get the impression she doesn’t hear the word ‘no’ very often. She doesn’t seem like she has bad intentions. More sheltered than spoiled.

Laki loosens her grip, letting you get out. “I’m proud of you, Soft Hands. Maybe I can make a man of you yet.”
Valerie turns to Gobble. “Are we friends?”

Gobble considers the question for a second, looks at Lillipup, and nods. Valerie looks to you first before patting him on the head.

“Ah! The food!” You quickly turn it over, narrowly avoiding burning it.

The groups enjoys a little more time by the fire without major incident. You get to know everyone a little more. Polu picked up surfing because of a movie that was filmed here when he was little. Keira tells you that because the film studio left a mess, the islanders were stuck with a lot of cleaning up. Her tone is upbeat, but you sense she doesn’t like polluting one bit. Hana watched it seven times. She’s a fan of that director.

I’ll even help you craft your first board.” He leans in closer. “And the girls, they love it, man. Almost as much as the guitar.”

“You play?”

“A little. I know a few chords, anyway. That’s okay because the main song from the movie only uses those ones.” He picks it up and prepares to strum.

“Nope.” Laki walks by and takes it out of his hands, gently setting it down. “You play that right now and nobody will get to sleep and Chatot will just hum it all the time.”

You and Polu talk more about the islands. Nothing big, but you get a better picture of it.

You sit down and talk to Hana, next. She’s gone back to being reserved again, You try to ask her about why she was trying to take the hit before, but she’s called away by her Togepi and apologetically avoids the question.

Keira plops down next to you. She doesn’t say anything at first. She just touches your hair cautiously. “Do you dye it?”

“No,” you scratch behind your head. “That’s just how I was born.” You adjust how you’re sitting. “So, do you see any legendary Pokemon around here?”

She cocks her head. “What do you mean, legendary?”

“You know, rare, really powerful Pokemon. They usually have some sort of mythology or and they’re really special.”

“Every Pokemon is special.” She laughs. “You’re strange.”

You change the subject and ask about her face paint instead.

“This? Oh right. You don’t have priestesses like us where you come from. That’s so sad...” She takes out a few bottles from her bag. “These are the paints I use for my face. They’re made from different plants around the island. The body paints are too, but those are more common because it doesn’t matter that they wash off in water.”

“So your face paint is water proof?”

She nods. “Of course! If it washes away, spirits might see my real face! A priestess's face is sacred.”

“So it disguises you from spirits?”

She nods again. “And people. They have spirits too. I’m a ghost, like a froslass or golett. Shhh.” She giggles. “But I’m a secondary for grass types too. I can do those rituals, but it’s not my focus.”

“So when you were talking to Mace earlier...”

(continued)

definitely not knocking it, my roommates would kill me if I did. You can make a lot of sushi rolls with it, great for hiking too.

Why do I get the feeling that she'll be the best bet for learning aura if we go that route?
>>
>>679360
Wait what do we look like?
>>
>>679360
“Your priestesses don’t do that?” She frowns. “I can’t understand all Pokemon, but you get a good idea. If you want to learn, you can practice with Chatot!” She laughs again and climbs over you, skirt and all, balances on her shoulders, and hops onto a tree branch. She comes down a few moments later in a quickly fashioned hammock made of vines. “These trees aren’t that common. I like to use them when I can.” She settles in and her limbs dangle freely as she sways back and forth in the warm night air.

“Wait, can I ask you about your rituals?”

She yawns. It reaches an adorably high pitch. “Tomorrow. Sleep now.”

It’s finally time to turn in.

Valerie has some sort of instant deluxe tent. Hana sets up a small modest tent, but Valerie insists she uses hers with her, and Hana is too polite to decline despite her shyness.

Polu sleeps on his board. Laki grabs some large leaves and curls up under those to make a blanket.

You don’t have a tent or even a sleeping bag, so you guess you’ll follow Laki’s lead. You grab some leaves and curl up. Gobble curls up with you, and Mace eventually follows.

You wake up in the morning to the sight of Keira sprinkling some water on the ground, followed by a little sand and some mumbling. She’s got different facepaint on today.

“So, are we heading back?”

“We could, but there’s some caves if we keep going up. We can follow those out to the beach eventually. It’ll take all day, but we might find some mushrooms or stones.”

Laki likes the sound of that. “Those mushrooms sell for a good price. Foodies love them.”

“Let’s go to the caves!” You say enthusiastically. Mace leaps up with you.

Laki smiles. “Well alright, then. Let’s do it.”

The group goes marching up the hill. Hana starts making incredible speed, notices she’s ahead of the group, and slows down. She helps Valerie up a steep section instead.

Keira seems to just hop up the rocks along the side, humming some sort of tune. Her Nincada climbs over her body.

“It’s okay to go in these caves, right?” Polu asks her.

“Yup! There’s no restrictions here. It’s only on blessed Eelilee and a few other secr-” she cups her mouth. “Yup! It’s fine here.”

Polu looks assured. His Aron follows beside him.

You finally arrive at the entrance. You don’t have much in the way of supplies, but it doesn’t look that bad in there.

Laki snaps some large dead branches she finds on the ground, Keira picks some foliage and fibers and pours a little oil on them, and Polu ties them together. They all do it like pros without needing to even consult on what the other is doing. Hana awkwardly stands to the side, fidgeting on where she might be able to help. She’s just not needed, though.

“There. Three torches. That’ll do.”

It takes a short bit to get them lit, but they manage and in you go.

“So what’s in here, besides mushrooms?” Valerie asks.

Polu leads with his torch. “Lots of stones and rare rocks in these caves. Sometimes fossils, too. We might get lucky and just find a shard, but that’s really rare.”

“We’d only find one if the island spirits want us to,” Keira corrects.”

“We’ll probably find a bunch of Tynamo. They’re everywhere in the caves. Zubat, too.”

“Those aren’t the only Pokemon in caves.”

“Yeah, but they’re the most common.”

The cave splits.

“And here we are. This way has the most stones. Mushrooms usually grow on that side And. going deeper this way might have some rarer Pokemon. That goes almost directly to the beach.

“I want those shrooms.” Laki says. “Still need that beer money.”

“Beer money! Been money!” Chatot yells directly next to Laki’s ear, causing her to flinch.

“They do sound like a delicacy.” Valerie agrees.

“But guys! Rare Pokemon!”

“We could find fossils.” Hana lights up. “Real fossils!”

“We can split up,” Keira offers. “That way we all find what we want.”

“I’ll go with team mushroom.”

“I wish that was the team we had here,” Laki puts her hands behind her head. It’s such a shame she’s still wearing that sarashi. She’d look a lot better with something else. Still, the flower in her hair looks nice.

“Neat!” Keira declares. She hums and wanders off off down the fossil path without so much as a torch.

“Wait for me, please!” Hana chases after her.

Polu grabs a torch and looks to Aron. “Looks like it’s just us down this way.”

You, Valerie, and Laki go down the mushroom path. Lillipup, Chatot, Gobble, and Mace all come with you, out of their balls. Chatot has warmed up a bit and flies between people’s shoulders.

“So. I understand you’re a professional athlete.” Valerie looks up to Laki.

“Was.” She corrects. “ I understand you’re richer than a small city.”

Valerie looks away. “I’d rather not be known for that.”

“Yeah.”

You look down to Gobble and Mace. They stroll along just fine now, but Gobble might not be the best to have out for collecting mushrooms. You could just have Mace help without, but Gobble might take that personally.

Kind of like this for keeping Gobble from going wild here; just tell him that the mushrooms can be turned into even more food later (assuming we sell them) or be made tastier when cooked.

For Valerie, ask her if she has any hopes regarding her journey around the islands.

Also:

Gobble, and Mace

Watch that Oxford comma.

It should only be used to clarify a meaning if there's a chance of something being misunderstood, like a list of paired items like this: 'black and white, red and blue, and diamond and pearl.'

In that instance, the comma would be necessary to make sure the paired items weren't confused.

That's about the only place you should use an Oxford comma though.

You ask Valerie about her hopes, dreams, and goals for her journey.

“Oh! Well thank you for asking.” She smiles. “I’d like to do coordinating to be honest. Well, everyone is supposed to go on a journey when they’re young. Find out what they want to do even if they say they already know. But I suppose if I had to be specific about why here, I’d say I chose here because my father talked so fondly about it. He used to say it was a great investment, vispum and all, but after awhile all he’d talk about was the local customs, the natural beauty, and how magical he found it.”

“Someone like your dad said that?” Laki raises an eyebrow. “Huh.”

“Is that a surprise?”

“Yes!” Laki leaps at a mushroom, ignoring the question. “Oh yeah. It’s a big one!” She takes off her windbreaker and uses it as a bag to hold mushrooms as she starts collecting.

Valerie cautiously and daintily picks one up, like she might find it gross to touch. She starts getting into it after doing it a few times though. She sees you struggling to hold the ones in your arms and lends you her wide brimmed hat. “You can use it as a basket. I have my bag.”

“Thanks!”

You lean down to Gobble. “Now remember, we can sell these to get way more food later. And I can prepare some of them so they taste better.”

Gobble sweats bullets as he collects mushrooms instead of eating them. Mace does as best a job he can with his limbs. Given that, he’s pretty impressive.

You start getting a good haul when Valerie finds something. “Look at this one!”

“Wait! Don’t!” Laki rushes over to push her away. She gets a faceload of powder for her troubles.

“Eeeeeeek!” Valerie screams and hides behind you as a group of mushroom pokemon start pouring out.

Laki stumbles back a few paces and nearly falls on you. “Oh. Oh this ishn’t gooooood.” She starts to doze off.

There’s five of them. This could be trouble.

Valerie has her Pokedex out. “Paras, the Mushroom Pokemon. Growing out of the bug's back are mushrooms called tochukaso. The mushrooms grow with the bug host.”

“Let’s fight!”

Valerie nods. “Okay. If you think that’s the best idea. Come on, Lillipup!”

The mushroom Pokemon start coming at you.

Mace starts doing his own thing, firing rocks in bursts. Rock Blast, you’re pretty sure. Gobble looks to you for what to do.

Not the best of moves given they probably have Effect Spore, but Metronome could potentially make things worse in our situation.

>>680232
Yeah, we should really try and get Gobble some non-randomized ranged attacks when we get the chance.

TELLING A MUNCHLAX TO RAT A MINDCONTROL SHROOM IS A BAD IDEA

Tackling a mass of vstatus effecting bugs in a format where getting quadruple statused is a option is bad.

>>
>>680304
I think Fling could work; sure it technically would be a one-shot but Munchlax naturally learns Recycle which can recover it. Plus with training I imagine we link the two to create some sort of boomerang throw.
>>
>>680338
if we can get him to learn some of the moves available to him in TM's, we could easily give him ranged moves
>>
>>680338
Giving pokemon metal balls to throw at other pokemon probably wouldn't be appreciated in most battles.
>>
>>680338
I...would not be opposed to this. That's actually really clever. I keep forgetting we can have more than four moves
>>
>>680341
You're thinking in game terms too much. TMs are reliable, but we can also train via practice and study. Bookworms get the best attacks.

There's always Fire orbs and Poison barbs

Iron Ball is a legit item though.
>>

Seeing how well Rock Blast is doing, Valerie hatches a plan. “Lillipup, use Helping Hand!”

Two crawl forward. One hits Lillipup with Spore. Lillipup just sneezes and continues on.

“It must be his ability.” Valerie says. “Stay in there, Lillipup!”

The other hits with Fury Cutter. Lillipup yelps and jumps back. Then it growls.

Mace easily knocks one out. Another approaches from his side though.

“Tackle! Quick!”

Gobble leans forward and runs at his target. He crashes into it with his shoulder and knocks it back.

The Paras attacks back with a Poison Powder. Gobble’s been poisoned!

The fourth comes from behind and his Mace with Leech Life. He shrugs it off.

“Good job!”

Laki snores and rolls over on the cave floor. You actually feel relieved because she seems fine other than being asleep.

Huh. Where’s Chatot?

It’s pretty chaotic in here. Mace continues his blasting assault. His rocks take out another Paras.

“Lillipup! You use Tackle, too!”

“Tackle! Again!”

Lillipup tackles the nearest Paras and pushes it into a rock.

Gobble rushes the one he was fighting. The impact from his extra weight knocks it out and sends it back a few feet. Two mushrooms from it fall off. It shakes it’s head and stumbles away. It’s in no condition to fight any more.

“Way to go, Gobble!”

He grunts back.

“Alright! Pokeball, Go!” Valerie throws one at the Paras her Lillipup tackled. It’s absorbed in a brilliant flash of light. It bounces, wiggles, and wiggles agian.

While that’s happening, the remain Paras seem to be loosing their nerve. They’re not quite running away, but they’re not attacking any more, either.

I'd like to group up withat least Keira and Laki for the long term. The others are neat enough to be fun additions every once in a while, but a smaller group seems better.

Keira can be John's lore guide/eventual crush, and Laki can be our bro-tier big sister friend who teases up about our crush on Keira. We can learn about the region and the cool spiritual stuff, go ghost hunting and earn some shards, win badges alongside Laki, and be a great team.

And Gobble can eat all kinds of new and exciting foods along the way. He can plot his tour of the islands by remembering all the new delicious treats he tried in each place.

“Rah! Ah!” You pick up the torch to try to intimidate the remaining Paras. The lighting in the cave shifts drastically with each loud, heavy woosh. “Rah!” Your voice isn’t as fierce as you’d like it, but it gets a bit harsher when you remember that Gobble’s been poisoned. You’re almost entirely sure that Laki is just asleep, but if she isn’t...

“Rah!” You swing harder and move forward.

That seems to do it. They scatter off. A few Rock Blasts crack against the boulder they scurry over as they run.

Valerie sits down, relieved. “Are you okay, Lillipup?”

He barks.

She turns to you and Gobble, reaches in her purse. “Come here, Gobble. I’ll give you an antidote.” She pauses and faces in your direction. She covers her eyes from the bright torchlight. “If that’s alright.”

>You don’t have to ask to help my Pokemon, but thanks

“You don’t have to ask for that. But thanks.”

Valerie nods, happily making a mental note. She applies the antidote and Gobble looks instantly relieved. If you get into another fight with something tough, he might be still be in trouble, though.

“What do we do with Laki?” She checks your fallen comrade’s pulse. You don’t think she really knows why she’s doing it other than it just sort of being something you see on TV.

Laki reacts a little by pushing her head up to get petted before falling back into a deeper sleep.

“C-cute.” Val blushes. She debates if she should do it again and decides not to.

Mace, Lillipup, and Gobble gather your mushrooms back into a pile. You notice that the they’ve included the different coloured ones that fell off the Paras. Chatot flaps back and lands on it, treatig it like a bed. Guess it didn’t go far.

Valerie tries to lift Laki up, but she stumbles back and barely regains her balance enough to keep the older girl from getting a face full of cavern floor. She sets her down.

Let’s see. You could both probably carry her, but you couldn’t balance the mushrooms and would have to leave almost all of them behind. You might be able to manage it yourself while Valerie carries the mushrooms, but you’d be slow and very vulnerable and very tired. One of you could go for help while the other stays.

I know.

The good time will be that much better if you have dark times to contrast them. In a quest, or roleplaying in general, I like having significant events that make a player rethink his actions, his past, present and future, and his own convictions and personality.

It may be a bit soon, but all the more time to play with the situation.

I don't want it to happen as John obviously, but I want it to happen as a player in the meta sense.

“I’ll carry Laki. You and the others can take the mushrooms. How’s that sound?”

Valerie looks you up and down. “If you think you can manage.”

You manned up earlier, and you’ll do it again! You’re not a wuss! You lean down, put her arm over your shoulder like so, bend at the knee, and...up be go. You stumble a little but quickly manage to get a firm balance.

“Wow. You’re pretty strong.” Valerie lifts the upturned hat full of mushrooms. “But don’t tell Laki I said that.”

You look down at Gobble, who seems impressed. “Remember, we can turn those mushrooms into money for more food, and I can cook them too.”

Gobble nods. He looks at the mushrooms and sweats a little more before deciding that he’ll only use one hand for those and the other for the torch.

You and your group start walking. Yeah. This is going to work. You’re actually making good speed. Your upper body muscles are aching and you’re sweating, but if you shift her weight around you can manage.

You look at the cave walls as they glitter in the torchlight. Valerie looks too. It’s really pretty.

And then you stumble on a small rock. You lean a foot back to balance but you just don’t have the strength or coordination to pull it off. Not like this. You overcompensate and run forward down a hole.

You, Laki, and your egg go tumbling down. The last thing you see is Gobble, Valerie, Mace, and Lillipup fading from view as you slide down.

You wake up. You have no idea how long you’ve been out. You’re pinned and can’t see. You can sort of wiggle an arm. Everything is numb.

“Hello?” You nearly whisper

No answer. You shiver at the way it echoes in the cave you can’t see in. You push to move out but get nowhere.

Something hot breaths on your face. You freeze up.

It breathes again. Hot, warm, close to your face.

After a few moments, you start to wiggle your arm some more. You can slowly move it. You pull it up your body and already know what’s on you when you get most of the way up. It’s Laki. Laki and her hard then soft body. She’s still asleep.

You hope your egg is okay. You can’t even see. She’s covering your eyes.

You’re have under her and half somewhat under what you guess is a weirdly shaped stalagmite formation.

You wiggle around to get your arms loose. Nobody should have leg and abs that tight. And man, her sarashi must be holding a lot back.

Focus!

You really hope she doesn’t wake up and get the wrong idea. Your body is definitely acting the way any hotblooded young man’s body would right now. In your nervousness, you mentally joke to yourself that you might have better luck pushing her off with that instead.

You get your arms in position, tell yourself that this just happens to be the best angle (it is, but still) and push.

The angle makes it tricky, but after a slight adjustment you easily lift her up and gently push her over! Yes!

Laki partly wakes up and curls back on top of you. “Mhph. Warm.”

You laugh to yourself and push again. This time you’re angled with your back against the rock a bit more and you crack a long rock off as you push Laki aside. You get up quickly, panting, with a broken off stalactite in hand like a club.

And that’s when you see it. A Kabutops. Halfway between the two of you is your egg.

You thought they were extinct. That you could only find them with fossils. These islands must have a lot of secrets like this.

It looks at the egg again, then you and your rock club. You stare back.

It decides it’s not worth the risk of angering someone as strong as you and wanders off.

You exhale, then check the egg. The cave light is very faint, but your eyes are adjusting. The moss on the walls and ceiling seems to faintly glow. It vanishes any time there’s a sudden sound, though.

The egg seems fine. You can’t feel any new cracks. But you’re not sure. It wiggles, so that’s a great sign.

Laki rolls. She should hopefully be awake, soon.

You take a small inventory of the situation. You’ve got one empty Pokeball. You remember reading about survivalists being able to crack them open and use one of the thingies inside to start a fire, but you’re not really good with survival stuff or gadgets.

You’re starving and feeling weak. You might be able to gather some of those root plants to eat. They probably taste pretty bad, but they look like a root you’ve used in cooking before. At least, under this light.

Laki might be thirsty. You know you are. Maybe you should try to give her some water.

You sit down with your little egg and hold it gently in your lap. It’s cold shell makes you shiver, but you keep it there. If you’re cold, whatever’s in there must be freezing.

You wait, keeping a sharp eye out for anything else that might want to come near.

The egg cracks.

You swear you didn’t do it! What!

It cracks again. Oh! Oh wow! It’s hatching!

You try not to interfere. You just hold the egg in your lap and whisper encouragement to it.

Something moves behind you. You breath a sigh in relief as you see it’s Laki. “Ahhh” She yawns. “I don’t know what I slept on, but that was the best sleep of my-”

She blinks.

“Where are we?”

You briefly fill her in while holding your egg. Whatever’s in there is taking it’s time getting out. Laki seems to be taking it relatively well, but that might just be the fact that you’re both watching something magical happen together. She leans over your shoulder and watches.

Finally, a little Pokemon pushes all the way out.

Hey! You know this one! It’s Budew! But it’s colours look different than you remember.

It makes a cute noise and looks up at you and Laki.

Laki gently pets it. “I’ve never seen one of these before.”

They must not be on these islands. “Hey there.”

It snuggles against your hand.

You smile and laugh and play with it for a short while. Even Laki is having a good time. But that comes to an end when your stomachs start to growl.

It’s a really tough choice, but you decide to go with safety first.

“Sorry, girl. But I need to put you in a ball for now, okay?”

She looks up at you with some confusion, then Laki, then makes an agreeable noise. You tap it with your Pokeball.

Laki stretches. “So you really scared off a Kabutops?” She narrows her eyes. “You? You’re not just lying to impress me, are you?”

You laugh shyly. “Well, I think I got lucky.”

She playfully pushes your shoulder and smiles, like she thinks it's cute. “Whatever you say, Soft Hands.”

“No really! It happened!”

“Yeah huh.” She picks up your stalactite. “Feels weird.” She comments more to herself than you.

The two of you walk down the cave. You try to keep relatively quiet, since any sudden noises cause the glowing miss to blink out. You ponder a few names for your new Pokemon to keep your mind occupied from something other than watching Laki walk ahead of you. You ultimately think it’s best to not make any final decisions for a little while longer. You want to give her a name that suits her personality.

Laki mumbles something about hoping Chatot is okay, but it’s cut off when you reach a fork. The left part of the cave looks like it’s flooded a bit. Laki dives down, checks it out and comes back. She tells you that there are lots of air pockets and that this will eventually lead out to sea.

The right path looks like it goes upwards. You think you can faintly hear something up there, but the echoes make it hard to get a clear sound. Whatever it is, it doesn’t sound like people.

>Alright. Let’s go left
>We should go right
>We’ll split up. Whoever gets out can find help

>>
>>683421
Last quest we had a Kingra with very high evasion, but only moderate speed training. Gobble also said it would be possible to train Mace to be like the Bellsprout from the original anime.

>>683430
Sawsbuck is really just a bit too slow. Moveset and attack wise it does alright.
>>
>>683401
>>We should go right
>>
>>683401
>Alright. Let’s go left

It's really tempting to go right, but we don't have any poke balls and it's likely to be something strong up there.

Let's just get out and hope there isn't an Octillery or something in the tunnel.

Or that Kabutops.
>>
>>683401
>>We should go right
Let's go it the direction that doesn't reduce both mobility and ability to breathe.
>>
>>683401
>We should go right

Right now we have the makings for a pretty good entry hazard team.
>>
>>683420
Add mudslap and sandstorm for chip damage while lowering enemy accuracy. Maybe also toxic to actually knock shit out.

>>683430
It has a pretty decent movepool at least.
>>
>>683401
>We should go right
Kabutops probably went underwater.
>>
>>683421
Add in moves like flash, sandstorm, and explosion and shit starts to get crazy
>>683435
I forgot what bellsprout did in the original anime

I just always felt that sawsbuck had a horrible moveset
Maybe that was me being bad
>>
>>683435
>Sawsbuck is really just a bit too slow
95 base speed is pretty fast actually. The problem is its below average bulk, but now that I'm looking at it it's really not a bad choice at all.
>>
>>683470
Too slow for what it wants to do.

>>683469
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx-Tb6Wdx94
Shitty video I found. Basically dodge lord with minimum movements.
>>
>>683469
>horrible moveset
Swords Dance, Jump Kick, Return/Double Edge, Horn Leech, Wild Charge, Megahorn and even a few techs in Leech Seed and Thunderwave.

>>683479
Only if you go full Smogon, and in that case 100 Attack is more lacking than 95 Speed being that frail. In this quest it could work perfectly well. Hell, it even gets Chlorophyll.
>>
>>683479
That bellsprout is a fucking champ
>>
>>683479
Looks like Bellsprout learned Martial Arts, like Akido or Judo.
>>
>>683494
I figured if we were talking comp we were being full smogon. But if Gobble says a NFE can work then anything could work.

>>683500
That + Guerrilla Warfare is what I want Mace to become. Roll with attacks for a Dempsy Rock Wrecker.
>>
>>683479
Man, haven't seen Judo Bellsprout in years. Good memories.
>>
just noticed that budew are not native to these islands, nobody will realize that we have an awesome shiney.
>>
>>683479
nerf judo

why didn't ash just use his charmander?
>>
>>683522
Charizard at that point, and the whole thing with him was that he was an asshole that didn't listen to Ash.
>>
>>683516
this is what we get for choosing bad luck

I can see John becoming a Breeder or a Ranger by the end of the quest, both seem to fit him
>>
>>683507
Yeah, Sawsbuck is not for comp. Still, I thought it was worse than it is, so I was pleasantly surprised.

As for the quest and our rock, the Ground-type master of the Elite 4 in the previous quest had a Nincada that was pretty much what we want Mace to become.
>>
>>683522
Because he's Ash and he can't type advantage out of a paper bag.
>>
>>683522
Would just dodge it all
The only thing that stood a chance was muck hacks
Also the fact that he didn't have a charmander
>>
>>683542
Muck had type advantage and he got wrecked!
>>
>>683555
Muk won the battle.
>>
So, let's talk about the abilities our Pokemon have.

>Gobble
He doesn't have Immunity, that's for sure. Gobble also name-dropped the phrase "Thick Fat" when describing him once so that's the most likely in my opinion, but he could still very well have Gluttony.

>Mace
We really have no clue, but if my theory is right and the "stalagmite" we were using as a weapon was Mace, he probably doesn't have Sturdy, so it's Sand Force. I could just be a tard though.

>Unnamed Shiny Buddew (My vote is we name him/her with a fashion theme, but we should wait a bit.)
Literally no info whatsoever, but I personally dislike Natural Cure, and because it has low defense/health, I think Poison Point would be better to discourage things from hitting it with physical moves. It could have Leaf Guard, which I think sorta sucks, but when it becomes Roserade that turns into Technician which increases the power of moves with a power below 60 by 50%. Could open up nice options.

>>683516
That just makes it double super rare.
>>
>>683559
Ah, that video was edited like the bellsprout won, my bad.
>>
>>683555
Well, that and the writers really like taking writing advice from GW where Ash is concerned:

Maintain the status quo, essentially.

It'd explain why the poor bastard keeps getting dicked over at the League.
>>
So what's the best way to achieve judo bellsprout level of hacks

I say we get a fast as fuck Pokemon and train them both until mace is able to dodge most of there attacks

Any other ideas?
>>
>>683569
The stalagmite is probably a fossil.
>>
>>683584
That is a pretty good way of doing it. We could also try seeing if he could learn to dodge attacks like Aerial Ace or Feint Attack much later on.
>>
>>683584
I'm not about fast rock at all really.

I want to make him UNBREAKABLE, all this dodging shit is for the WEAK.
>>
>>683569
Gobbs definitely has thick fat, normally Roggenrolas have sturdy, so I think we assumed Mace does.
>>
>>683601
Best Rock being a dodge lord makes sense though. Gobble can be our tank every hit Pokemon.

“We should go right.”

Laki puts a hand on her wide hip and looks you up and down. “Alright. If you say so.”

The two of you make it up the winding steep incline. With every step, you feel close and closer to freedom. In fact, the cave is starting to look brighter.

Up and up and over and up. You finally see a cave exit!

“Wait!” Laki whispers and puts a hand out to stop you. You’re a little self conscious of how not fit you are compared to her. “Look” She points up. Her expression shows absolute horror.

A living ceiling. It moves and makes small noises. How can that even be possible?

"We can sneak out." You whisper.

“Alright.” She leans down. “Don’t. Make. A. Sound.”

You and Laki start walking forward. Things go really well. The two of you manage to get about half way without a sound and you’re feeling great.

Laki stops and you bump into her.

“Why’d you stop?”

She points down. There’s something shiny embedded in the rock. She starts stealthily digging at it with her hands.

You keep an eye out nervously. You push down the urge to try to rush her. But come on. Let’s go!

She fishes it out and holds it up at the light. It’s a golden nugget! Laki grins at the little thing and starts walking forward. But she slips. The nugget goes flying from her hand and she flies through the air.

You rush to stop her fall. Despite how worked your muscles are and how everything aches, you catch her in both arms as you’re forced to run forward without making a sound. You leap off a rock into the air and grab the nugget with your teeth before landing soundlessly on the cavern floor in a full run.

You make it out of the cave into the warm, bright sunlight. Gingerly, you set the older girl you were princess carrying onto her feet as you go to your knees. Oh man. You’re bushed.

She looks down at you, stunned and impressed and maybe even a little helpless looking.

Don't worry about it. It's early in the quest, and it's not like Gobble isn't aware that a lot of people like Keira, so she's not going to be written off as an option before being given plenty of chances for this sort of thing, too.

Obviously this increases Laki's chances of developing a crush on John, but overall I think this brief character arc is more about her learning to respect John and take him seriously than about romance. Because cool as she is, up until now she's been treating us like a little kid, and that was something John seemed to resent. This is probably more about that.

Besides, dorky John is fantastic, and we should take every opportunity to offset our badass rolls like this.

You frown. Her flower is all lopsided now.

Without thinking about it, you pull her forward into the light a little bit by pushing her closer to you by the small of her back. She blushes moves however you direct, letting you do what you want. Huh, she must know what you’re doing. You reach both hands to her head. Your hands work the flower in her hair. When it’s done you give a confident smile and back away.

You toss her the nugget. She catches it with one hand but keeps her eyes on you. She’s got a funny look on her face. Must be shock from getting that nugget. It’s probably worth a lot.

You turn around and start walking.

“J-John. Wait. I-”

Your legs give out and fall right on your face into the soft dirt. The only thing that really hurts is your pride. The adrenaline must have faded away because you’re exhausted. She offers a hand and a grin. “Come on, Soft Hands. I got you.”

She doesn’t wait for your consent. She just picks you up and puts you on her back.

You’re too tired to give much of an objection. You just rest and try to keep your hands somewhere appropriate as you think about Budew and your other Pokemon and Valerie. You hope they’re doing okay.

“Herb! Laki!”

You both look down the beach. The group is there. Valerie and your Pokemon, too.

“Way to save the day, Laki.” Polu gives her a high five. “Dude, you okay?”

Besides the new blow to your pride, you’re fine.

“Guys!” You slide off Laki’s back and hug your Pokemon.

Valerie joins in, then hugs Laki. “I thought you two were hurt!” She sighs. “Guess you’re too tough for that, huh!” She reaches out playfully but cautiously and gives Laki’s arm a squeeze. Hana looks too shy to say or hug anyone, but she’s visibly relieved.

“Uh, guys. It’s really not what you think.”

Keira looks over you and blinks. “Your egg hatched.”

“Yeah!” You take out your Budew. “Here she is!”

The group crowds around. The small Pokemon looks up at all the new faces. She gets a little scared though, and runs between you and Laki. Everyone laughs at the adorable little Pokemon. Laki looks really curious about her. “What a unique spirit!”

Laki offers you the stalactite. Except in the sunline, you can see it’s different. Bone coloured.

Hana goes up close to it. “This is a rare bone. Did you find this? It’s worth a lot.” She quotes a number that even makes Valerie’s eyebrows rise. You’re pretty sure that could buy a truck like your moms.

Keira looks at it. “If it’s a bone, you should take it to Eelilee island. The elders should have it in case it belongs to something important.” She turns to you. “I mean, that’s what I’d do. You don’t have to follow my beliefs. They always told me not to push them on others.”

“Well, it was really useful for scaring off that Kabutops. But I don’t need it anymore. Sure. They can have it.”

You feel some eyes roll at you. “Did that really happen?”

“I didn’t see it.” Laki looks to you. “But I believe it. He was pretty badass back there.”

The others treat her like she’s being sarcastic and picking on you.

“Are Kabutops native to the Loanah region?”

Keira nods. “Yup! Hana told me that they’re extinct in other places. I never knew that.” She eyes you and Valerie with just a little suspicion, but doesn’t say more.

Polu decides to step in. “So. How did everyone do? Catch any new Pokemon?”

Keira releases a Pokeball. “Say hello, Tropius.” The large Pokemon seems friendly. Oh nice, it’s growing really big bananas!

Polu shows his two Pokeballs. “I found a Larvesta and a Spiritomb.”

“Two? Wow!” Valerie runs over to him.

The normally relaxed Polu stands tall. “Well, it’s all thanks to Aron, here. He’s the real hero.” He looks down at his Pokeballs. “I probably won’t be keeping Larvesta. I just caught it so I can release her on one of the volcano islands.”

“But this is a volcano island.” Keira says. “It’s just not as warm.”

Polu laughs. “The things you learn on a journey.”

“But you live here.” Valerie says.

“I grew up in Puku.”

“Really? You don’t seem like you do.” Hana says. “I mean, sorry if I’m stereotyping.” She becomes self conscious.

He laughs. “Nah. It’s it’s true. Lots of older retired people cranky about everything. But they’ll teach you a lot if you don’t try to introduce them to new stuff.”

Valerie puts down a bag with the mushrooms. She must have gotten the bag from the others. "Here. Didn't lose a single one!"

Gobble stares at them. He’s practically shaking with restraint now.

“Hey, we’re near a temple, right?” Valerie says, pointing to the large mountain island for some reason. “The pamphlet said they all face Eelilee.”

“That’s right.” Keira says, impressed. “But it’s a pretty long walk from here.”

It’s getting late and nobody seems to be throwing out any particular suggestions.

“Well, if everyone is okay with it, how about I cook up some dinner and we head back tomorrow?”

There are no objections there. The group really likes your cooking.

“Glad your egg turned out okay. Soft Hands.” Laki passes by you and tussles your hair. “Hey Polu. Since you’re so lucky today, why don’t you luck us up some firewood?”

He laughs and walks off into the trees by the beach.

You toss Gobble a few mushrooms as a reward for his willpower. He gulps them down instantly and happily.

The group seems eager to help out. Valerie insists on pitching in her fancy foods she was carrying. Hana quickly dices everything you need. Keira wanders into the brush and comes out with a hum and some roots. She has a pestle and mortar and quickly mixes them with some of your spices. She insists it’s all perfectly normal ingredients when Laki asks. They have a nice zing! You add them in.

Whew. That went quickly. You call everyone for food and they eat in a way that almost makes Gobble look refined. You take that as a compliment.

The group thanks you and Laki talks Hana into doing the dishes. Laki does end up doing the drying, though.

You’re pooped. Your muscles ache and you’re stuffed from over eating. If you go to bed now, you can probably get some training or something else done before it's time to go.

You play with your Pokemon for a little bit. Budew loves the attention. Mace seems a little cautious of her at first, like he’s worried she’s going to hurt him. He warms up a bit and plays a little game where he rolls away when she gets close. If she actually does get a little too close he stops playing and really books it, though.

Gobble sniffs her a few times. He seems neutral towards her when he sees she doesn’t have any food. He doesn’t mind or even pay her much attention as she walks over him when he lays down. She knocks loose a crumb and he tosses it into his mouth with down with some joy.

Budew wanders over to Laki. The athlete looks like a young mother as she plays with the little Grass type Pokemon. She tells you she’ll look after her for a bit so you can wander. That’s great. You wanted to chat with some people. You can come back to Laki when you’re done.

You head over to Polu first. Mace rolls up beside you and you pet him. “So how’d you manage to catch a Larvesta and Spiritomb.”

He looks at you confused. “Bro. I thought you knew. When you weaken a Pokemon, you can catch it with a ball.”

“No, I meant, aren’t those really rare?”

He shrugs. “Larvesta’s aren’t really rare. They’re not super common or anything, but they have healthy numbers. Spiritomb though...” he pulls up a Pokedex. “Huh. I guess they really are rare.”

He throws out his Pokeball. “Say hello, Spiritomb.”

Keira shrieks and scrambles behind a rock. The group runs over to her. She’s breathing heavily and clutching a wooden charm in her hand. “That’s what a spiritomb is?"

He shows her the Pokedex entry, but she nearly runs from that, too. She starts to quickly put on more facepaint. “They’re so angry!”

He frowns. “It’s just one Pokemon.”

“No! No it’s not.” She holds her chest to try to calm down. “That’s a whole village’s worth of haunting. We need to get the elders. The supreme elder!”

The others, minus Valerie, look like she’s being a bit extreme.

Polu seems like he holds Keira’s opinion in high regard. But he also really seems to like his new Pokemon. “I can put it away if it’s bothering you.”

She shakes her head. “No. They shouldn’t be able to see me like you. I’m safe.” She leans around the rock. Spiritomb does seem to look at her differently than it looks at others. “Your Pokeball needs to be blessed at least a hundred times. I might be able to do a few times.”

Polu walks over to it. He pets it. Or at least, he pets the thin air around it. It seems a little perturbed, but it doesn’t mind. In a weird way, it almost seems to like him. “Can’t I keep it? Spiritomb’s not so bad.”

Spiritomb looks like a regular cutie to me! Besides, aren't all pokemon potentially dangerous anyways? That's why there are trainers. If it was too powerful for him to handle he wouldn't have been capable of catching it.

It seems like trying to calm Keira down, trusting Polu's capability, and going to an elder in the morning aren't mutually exclusive, which is nice. I think a combination of those makes the most sense.
>>
>>685081
>>She should relax. It’s a Pokemon and he’s a trainer
>>How about they take it up with an elder to decide

On one hand, we should probably trust in Polu. On the other, Spiritomb is potentially dangerous.

>>685125
Spiritomb are an amalgam of 108 spirits imprisoned in a stone out of fear over what they would do if they were free. I know that there aren't really any innately bad/evil Pokemon, but Spiritomb comes pretty close.

Also they're pretty great, so I'm kind of glad to see one even if its not with us.
>>
>>685205
Its worth noting that spirtombs are created by the 108 spirits, not being bound to the tomb.

So spiritombs range from being personal hells to being prisoners of tyrants, or even just being pranksters.

“It’s okay,” you put a hand on her painted shoulder. Hana and Polu exchange a look when you do that, like you’ve done something improper. Keira doesn’t seem to mind, though. “It’s a Pokemon and he’s a trainer. You don’t have anything to worry about.”

She looks between you and everyone else. She peers out at the Spiritomb. He’s starting annoyedly at Chatot. The little bird is chittering away at him.

She holds her wooden charm close to her chest. “Well...okay. He does seem fine. It’s just that stone.” She points to the trapezoid rock that Spiritomb is projecting out of.

“I promise I’ll take good care of it and won’t let anything bad happen.”

Keira looks the surfer up and okay. “Okay! You’re telling the truth. But just in case, I want to give it a tag.”

Polu nods in approval, and Keira gets to work with special paints and a strip of weird looking paper. The others disperse to do their own thing.

“What is that?”

She sticks her tongue to the side of her mouth as she carefully mixes the paint and makes intricate lines. “It’s a symbol for an arrow target.” She tells you about it in detail, but a lot of the words seem foreign to you. The general idea though, is that these tags were used in ancient times so that people could ward off angry ghosts by being able to physically interact with them. It’s a ring target.

She walks over to the Spiritomb. It glances at her briefly, but let’s her go about her business. She leans down and places the tag on it’s rock. When she’s done, she pokes it.

She rolls back over to you. “There. Now if something happens, we can catch it.”

You feel a bit bad for Polu. A Ghost type Pokemon that can be touched is at a disadvantage. He doesn’t look like he minds though. And maybe Keira will change her mind about it later.

She frowns. “I don’t like being the party pooper. But spirits are serious business.”

“Do all ghosts make you feel that way?”

She laughs. “No! I love them! I just wish I could train them.” She points to her face. “They won’t be able to recognize me as a living human. To them, I’m just another ghost.” She opens her arms wide. “They’re all around. Ghost type Pokemon can see lots of them.”

Well that’s not going to help you sleep tonight.

so anyone got any ideas for special training for belladonna (if that's the name we decided on for budew)
I was thinking we could work on making her poison especially deadly, so that regular poison becomes toxic poison and toxic becomes something really nasty...
or we could do a technician boosted crit ninja with razor leaf, crit training and hazards. though roserades phys attack is bad...
I also think we should give her goggles as her item so she can work with Mace in sandstorm conditions if we set mace up with that anyway, plus would probably look good.
>>
>>685487
id like to train her as a fast striker. Have her poison an opponent early in, maybe with poison spikes, then needle them while staying away from their attacks with ranged ones
>>
>>685487
>>685501
A fencer when she evolves
>>
>>685511
Agreed.
>>
>>685511
well more of a magic swordswoman considering her base 125 sp atk and base 70 physical attack...
>>
>>685487
Since it seems like we're collecting tanks I would say set her up to be a poison staller
>>
>>685487
If we're focusing on poison maybe try and add a Venom Drench effect to all of her poison attacks to seriously weaken foes. Roserade can learn that naturally, so it might not be too tough. Beyond that she should also be able to learn a good number of support moves as Roselia so maybe that could be an alright fit too.
>>
>>685511
probably the best way to explain it

considering we got it from our grandpa, could it be a left over from the work of Hornbeam? Kinda depends when this is set, but we know it's after the finale.

If it is a leftover, she can have a few useful egg moves.

Shame she doesn't learn any sword themed moves naturally
>>
>>685533
Our speedster appears to be a pebble.
I dont think smogons going to help us, at all.

Though a Smogon trainer would be a solid character concept.
>>
>>685558
We're not going to be Paul.
Paul's a cunt
>>
>>685558
well then if we're going purely thematic rather than statistical... we could have her learn bullet seed then up her shot count to 10 rather than 5 via firing shots from both bouquets, make her a speedy agent type...
>>
it's 6am I think I should probably sleep now, If you guys do end up nicknaming Budew I like the name Aeslin, not to sold on Belladonna
>>
>>685568
I said CHARACTER concept, not PLAN.

As in, a person like Paul would be a interesting ENCOUNTER. Someone who uses their phone to obsessively check stats, bases their own strategy off pretested methods and routines rather then the conventional on the fly adaption we normally see.
>>
You ask about her scavenging skills and the mortar and pestle.

“Oh that? I guess you get used to it. We pass by a lot of useful plants, but I only need a little. I forget that you probably have different plants where you're from.” She sighs. “That must be really fun, scavenging on the mainland.”

“Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever really scavenged. Well, I picked some berries around my grandpa’s place, but that’s probably it.”

She giggles. “That’s so strange. Part of my training is mixing lots of remedies and cures. Oh! That reminds me.” She leans around the rock. “Hana! Did that tea help you with your period?”

Hana stares back from across the beach, then shrinks into an embarrassed ball.

Keira produces a small vial from her bag. “Life before this must have been terrible.”

She must be more isolated than the others. They seem to have a much stronger grasp on the outside world. As you chat with Keira, you come to learn that she’s spent almost her entire life in mostly the same place. It’s some sort of all girl’s temple.

You ask about the bone.

“I’m not really sure what it is. I looks like a big tooth. But it might be from some poor creature here that was never sent to the next world. Whenever someone or their Pokemon dies, we take them to the Great Portal.” She looks into the distance. “Sometimes bodies are lost at sea or something. But in those cases we can make a doll of them and use items they had an attachment to in life.”

You ask about the tags.

She talks while she tries to do a handstand against the rock. “I can make a few, but it’s mostly ghost related. My sect is in charge of ghosts. I minor in grass related affairs though and I can help in those temples too unless it’s a major ceremony.” She explains that there are sects for each Pokemon type. Their temples are scattered all over the islands. Each of them has a clear line of sight to Eelilee mountain, though. Many are on coasts, but some are on their own mountains or just barely able to see directly there.

“Can anyone use that paint?”

She rolls over your legs in a somersault, then stops to face you. She seems amazed that this is even a question to you. Not in a condescending way, but in a way that makes your way of thinking seem so alien to her. “It takes years of training. I can give you a mask, but it’s not as good. I can act normal, but you’d have to be really convincing to pass, and even then if they get close they’ll see through it.”

You’re learning a lot. “If you want to train Ghost Pokemon, can’t you just remove your face paint” You lean over to touch it.

Her eyes go wide. “I barely know you! They warned me about outsiders!” She clutches her charm and backs away. “You seemed so nice and selfless, too!” She runs away around the rock.

“Keira!” You look around the rock. You didn’t mean to offend her.

Like, the most intimate thing you could ever ask.” She touches her cheeks and shakes her head. “Ahh! Just thinking about it!” She giggles. “I can’t believe you asked that.”

You chat for a bit before she tells you she needs to get ready for bed. You get up and head over to Hana.

Belladona isn't super great, I think people are just latching on because it was basically the first and only suggestion they've seen.

Dilettante, Gardenia, Damsel, Heroine, Rosebud, Bud, Buddy, Friendo-pendo, all of these names are also options.

We need to know the gender, I've only been assuming female.

I think Jane will be fine. I was worried after our initial confrontation with her but this session has mostly resolved my issues with her.

She can't be best girl. She wears facepaint.

>>685780
I find cute boring. Can't help it, I think I got an overdoes from Robin last round. Laki having a mean streak being /fit/ sold me. Granted someone new could come along and we're about to speak with Hana. Although I'm skeeved out by amputees.

Because I'm just coming into this late I have to ask, can't we take the fossil to the professor? See if he can't identify it? Or maybe revive it if they have the machine for it here. Would be nice to have our own one of a kind fossil Pokémon.
>>
WHo's Jane? I can't remember her character.

>>685804
I can't account for everything when we are approaching a 12 hour run.

No, Jane fucked off a long time ago, that's why her and Laki haven't had a problem in awhile.

Valerie was the one that disciplined our Pokemon.

Robin was my favorite from the previous quest, but Keira's pretty different from her already. I was expecting facepaint and body paint to be a thing for me, because to be honest, I usually think it looks dumb and not at all sexy, but Keira sort of makes it work.

Besides, Keira has already shown her capacity for teasing us easily matches Laki's. I think there's a lot to her that will come out once we've been traveling with her and Laki for a while.

Someone without arms and legs is sad. You can pat them on the back and talk about how brave they are and how strong they are, how what's the word.. I'm tired.. encouraging/something to that extent.

But overall it's sad and depressing.

>>685854
Eh to each their own. She does literally nothing for me. You can say she makes it work, but we can't actually see her wearing it so..

I don't find the priestess thing particularly interesting, granted I don't find the failed athlete background too interesting either.

hana is missing at least half of her limbs, with possible burn scars as well. We obviously don't know the details, but Hana in particular is an amputee with prosthetics
>>
>>685879
Agreed that fetishising amputees is creepy, but it's still worth remembering they're human as well.

The want doesn't go away just because someone's lost a limb or has a mental disability.

That said, if you're going to write something about intimacy involving amuptees or someone with a mental handicap, you'd better do a damn good job of making it believable, if only so you don't have to deal with the shitstorm if someone gets offended.
>>
>>685879
I used to work at a movie theater with a guy that was missing a hand, he strongly disliked it when people would notice and say "I'm sorry =(" and other stuff like that.

Patting someone on the back for missing a limb is fucking insulting, they're not brave for it. Thinking it's sad is also fucking insulting, the trauma is over, treat them like they got back up, which they did.

The reason you're having such a strong negative reaction is because it's all wrapped in pity for you, which is the kind of thing that generally makes people with disabilities feel like shit.

Not caring beyond thinking it's kinda hot is much healthier way of seeing things desu, though I personally don't share that fetish.
>>
>>685901
car accident was the cause, most of those don't explode and when they do the occupants don't usually survive so i'd say burns are unlikely, though shrapnel scarring is possible.

hana seems more like bionic bro material anyway
>>
“Hey!”

She looks like she’s still trying to disappear. “Ha! That Keira, right? Always saying...prank things.” her voice trails off in sync with how her eyes go down to the ground.

Oh right. She’s probably still embarrassed about that. You already forgot. “So, did you find anything in the caves?”

“Oh. Yeah!” She puts down her backpack. ”I found a cover fossil. I want to get it to town right away.” She smiles. “I’m really excited to see a Tirtouga. Not just because of Space Carracosta Versus Mecha Tentacruel, either. I like all Water Pokemon. It’s my favorite type.”

“Oh yeah. I’ve seen that one. It was pretty good.”

She goes from shy to full passion. “Pretty good! I love Del Tauros’s movies. That one’s in my top 15 at least!”

You two talk for awhile about movies. She’s seen everything you’ve seen, and the director's commentary, and the making of film. She doesn’t say it directly, but after awhile you put together that it’s because she had a lot of time in the hospital and not many things to do. She subtly checks a small thing on her wrist. You didn’t get more than a quick glance at it, but it looked like a LED screen with readings of some sort.

Her passion fades a little. “It’s getting late, but I really liked talking to you. Polu only likes the one movie and most people here don’t watch any.” She pauses. "But it's not just that. You're really nice."

With that, you head back over to Laki with your Budew. She was bouncing the little thing on her knee, but now she seems half asleep. She leans against a large tree.

>Collect your Pokemon and go to sleep.
>Ask Laki how she’s feeling. She had a rough day.
>She doesn’t seem like she takes Keira’s position as seriously as the others. Ask her about that

I think the main appeal to Hana right now is that she's a cute shy girl, if anything the artificial limbs are like a design quirk and not all that important other than it is probably important to her backstory.

Not sure if cross questing is frowned upon, but a silly suggestion for Hana, she should get shark skin themed prosthetics.

This is the correct attitude to have.

It's not to the same level, but I know a guy who lost an index finger when he worked as a trucker.

He doesn't care a jot about it and he's a funny guy. Got a few stories about using it in pranks as well, which are hilarious.
>>
>>685970
Hana's kinda growing on me more than Laki, not gonna lie. I mean, Laki is great, but a dorky kaiju-loving girl is a powerful concept. Hana might be my new second place girl, right after Keira.
>>
>>685986
That's amazing, I'm sure with a little ketchup he can freak out people good. Hahha
>>
I got my fill of cute and shy with Robin. though the kaiju movie nerd bit has moved her up the rankings a good deal, laki's still at the top for me so far.

but it's only thread 4, waaaaaayyy too early to route lock, hopefully we learn something about Valerie next.
>>
>>685999
I think Laki and Hana are the two I find the cutest, but I think Keira is also a cute. So far I don't see much downside really to those three.

then, once all the girls want john, we force them to have pokemon battles to win his love
>>
>>686000
He's actually done that.

Working at a diner years after he lost the finger and this one customer was being a dick, so he dipped his finger in it then went and asked the guy if he'd seen a finger in his food because his was the last dish out.

The guy got up and left without paying.

He got away with it because his boss found the whole thing hilarious.
>>
>>686019
I still like that idea one anon posted where our pokemon each think a different girl is best for john... also we might meet a potential waifu later who joins the party, sorta like clair last time but without the harem stuff.
>>
>>686008
>but it's only thread 4, waaaaaayyy too early to route lock, hopefully we learn something about Valerie next.

Very much agreed, on both counts. Keira may be my current favorite, but that could change, and it's too early to count anyone out.

>>686013
Maybe all three of them could come with us. One of the reasons I thought Hana and Keira would be a better pair of companions was because those two seem to have a dynamic that Laki doesn't really have with either of them. Really, Laki doesn't seem to have much of a dynamic with anyone aside from John and Jane. The former can't carry her character development alone, and the latter is clearly not a friendship. That's why I said she seems more like a big sister than a romantic interest. She seems like she's less of a teenager and more of a young adult compared to pretty much the entire rest of the cast.
>>
>>686033

>>Ask Laki how she’s feeling. She had a rough day.

Late, but eh

I still like Laki more than Hana. Hana is way too close to my own reality
>>
>>686043
To clarify my last point, there seems to be a degree of separation between Laki and the rest of the cast, John included; I used the older sister comparison because it feels the same as if your older sibling came along to something you and your friends were already doing. No one would pbject, and they'd be nice, but they don't really fit in with the others, because they have less to relate with.

Not saying we should drop Laki, or even that this is a bad thing (it isn't), just that this is how I see the character so far.

>>686044
I never knew I wanted this, but now I do.
>>
>>686057

>>
>>686104
I'm actually kinda hoping for a sort of rotating cast. It's not like everyone's going to want to go to the same places for the same amount of time, the group can just split up and meet back together on different islands. That we we get to know them all and how they interact with each other.

“How are you feeling? You had a rough day.” You sit down next to her as she hands you your Budew.

She laughs tiredly. “You're sweet, Soft Hands. But that just makes me want to pick on you. You've got to cut that out. I-” She yawns. “I cause you nothing but headaches, give you a terrible day, and you come here checking in on me. ”

“It’s okay. You didn’t mean to do anything. Plus I’ve never really been all that lucky.”

She laughs again. This time with her eyes closed. “Me either, despite my name. The two of us together can make a vortex of bad mojo.”

“Can I ask you something? How come you don’t seem like you take Keira as seriously?”

She sighs. “Ha. You really love bad luck, don’t you? Don’t you know that being close to a priestess without being part of the clergy is bad luck, too? She deals with spirits all the time who can’t see her. Who do you think they’ll target instead? That is, if you believe in that stuff.” She adjusts more so she’s not as upright. “She’s a nice enough girl. I don’t have anything against her. But she’s deep into it. And to be honest...” She thinks back. “To be honest, when I went to those games, I saw so many different peoples and-” She opens her eyes and looks around. “Ah. Forget it. Maybe I should talk with Keira some more. I guess I have a lot of questions.”

You look around. Keira has applied a lot of extra face paint. She sleeps on the far side of the group from Polu. He’s on his board again. Hana and Valerie have retired to that fancy super tent.

You retrieve your Pokemon before dozing off. You notice that Mace and Gobble seem to not approve of how close you’re sleeping to Laki. Budew looks like she thinks you belong there, though.

Your heavy eyelids drag down and your head slumps against a shoulder. Good night.

Now that I could get behind.
>>
>>686207
See, Laki being John's gateway into lewd I can see happening, in a sort of 'we're not an item, but I want this' sense.

With Laki as the initiator.

The tension is there after all.

As to the second, I kind of get the feeling that'd be Hana so far.

Valerie is kind of meh and Keira is more a bro sort of character like>>686198 said.

If Hana or Laki don't end up being an item with John, I get the feeling it'll be someone we meet later on.
>>
>>686227
Nah, I can pretty easily see Keira and John ending up together later on. Not for a while, though.

>Gobble used your idea.
>>
>>686281
This anon gets it. Exactly what I wanted to say.
>>
>>686261
Could be cute. That would work for any of the girls, really. I got the impression John is like a year younger than the rest of the cast; not counting Laki or Jane, of course, who are older than the rest.
>>
>>686281
There's chemistry there, I'll grant, but to begin with I can see them as a sort of on and off relationship.

At least, initially.
>>
so continuing the Aura discussion: what do you think Laki, Hana, and Keira's aura's are

For Laki I'm thinking Fighting
Hana might be Water and Steel
For Keira... Ghost and...grass or psychic
>>
Since Budew seems to be backing Laki, who do you suppose Gobble and Mace are rooting for?
>>
>>686339
Food and rolling, respectively.
>>
>>686339
Gobble for Valerie. She saved the mushrooms and can buy huge amounts of food.
>>
Shit I fell asleep, thanks for running Gobble
>>
>>686339
Hard to tell with Mace right now, but I think he would want us to fly solo. If he doesn't want to evolve because it makes people lazier can they can't do the stuff they use to he may not like relationships.
>>
When is Gobble getting belly rubs? He deserves them after a good battle. Likewise, Mace deserves a good polish to make him look snazzy, and Bell deserves a nice watering and a nap in the sun. Pampering our pokemon is something we should do.
>>
>>686562
Well considering we have had our Pokemon for 2 or 3 days, I'd say we have plenty of time to pamper them.
>>
>>686546
gobble hasn't shown any preference yet, but I can see him driving john toward Hana or Valarie. Valarie is rich and can buy him lots of food, though that assumes pokemon understand money. Hana could make food at super speed, essentially setting up a conveyer belt for him.

If he changes each day based on whose given him the most food, hilarity will ensue
>>
For anyone who said they couldn't really picture Keira, just imagine Phoebe with paint. That's more or less what she looks like. They're wearing about the same amount of clothing, too.
>>
>>686594
Goddamn. Gobble committed the ultimate sin by making at least 3 good waifus. The waifu wars will be savage
>>
>>686825
I'm aiming for 2 out of the 3 at the moment. Good luck boys
>>
>>686825
I really don't see the appeal in Keira.
>>
These islanders are hopefully liberal enough to gain 'benifits' with out losing things like friendship or more
>>
>>686848
She's weird, cute, and mysterious cause of the culture difference. I think half the fun of her character is learning more about the setting as we do.
>>
>>686873
>I think half the fun of her character is learning more about the setting as we do.
We can do that with literally anyone. It's the same exposition and exploring either way, sans a little temple info that we'll learn eventually.
>>
Waifus aside for a moment, we haven't had a battle yet against a trainer. We need to do that soon, whether it's against a rival or a rando.
>>
>>687061
I'm sure Jane will want revenge when we next see her.
>>
>>687071
We should probably train our team a bit, Mace and Gobble have some combat experience but Bella does not. Maybe even have then learn a move. I'd rather visit that temple though, but we are short on supplies going to town might be a good idea.
>>
>>687124
Maybe when we give the temple the bone they will give us some traveling supplies if we ask.
>>
>>687133
whats our current inventory?
>Backpack
>food
>trusty frying pan
>(hopefully) extra clothes
>>
>>687124
>>687133
Exploring is nice, but next morning a short training session would be nice. The only move we know Mace can do right now is Rock Blast.
>>
>>687141
Sounds like we have a sewing kit and an array of spice, but pretty much that seems it.
>>
>>687124
Heading into town for supplies should be the first order of business. After we get our to do list done then we should look into training or battling
>>
>>687147
we need to make some money so we can get enough food for gobble and fancy clothes

and a good bug out bag

if we travel with Keria though, we probably wont need to get a tent or sleeping bag
>>
>>687171
We may want one just in case. Keira or no, we won't want to sleep outside of it rains.
>>
>>687209
These are tropical islands so we might just need a tarp in case of the rain, cold won't be as big a deal I think
>>
>>687215
A tarp and maybe a big water resistant bag for our Pokédex or other electronics would be a good idea. Maybe also get a rain poncho for if we have to travel in rain and we should be set. We don't need any expensive camping supplies.
>>
>>687259
>other electronics
Still need to ask about that phone.
>>

subtract the guns, and this would be a pretty solid bag for John

we should keep the machete though, we are in a tropical jungle after all
>>
>>687284
I don't think we need that much.
>>
>>687291
it really isn't all that much, once you take our redundancies like the walkie talkies and the radio. Our pokedex and phone are enough for that role. Everything else is common camping gear. We can even replace the sleeping bag, provided we learn how to make hammocks from Keira
>>
>>687284
I like first aid kit, rope, bug repel, spade, flash light, but I'm sure we've got most of the rest we need.
>>
>>687376
a camel pack would be important too, heat stroke is a possibility in a place that can go above the dew point, especially for a nonnative
>>
I'm liking this prep talk, having comfy pokemon journeys are best done well prepared.

same, comfy is important

as are lewdbins

I like the cut of your jib sir.

Had more to do today that I thought. New thread in a bit. Sorry about the delay.
>>
>>687637
>Australian Diglets
>>
>>687443
I imagined we had the means to carry water already. Like at least a canteen, but I guess a camel pack couldn't hurt.
>>
>>687637
No worries, Gobbles. I'm about to start my shift at work so I'll have to read it later. Have a fun thread!
