You are Jason Fisher, 4th grader and best friend of a three-headed dog monster named Oscar. You and your father have recently moved from your small hometown in Virgina to Greensville, a modest sized city in northern Ohio. You have been enrolled in Lakeside Elementary School, and are still trying to adjust to the change.

Yesterday, you went to hang out at your new friend Tyler's place, where you finally encountered his monster; Delta, a human-shaped robot that can control technology. Oscar was none to pleased to meet Delta, and Delta didn't seem terribly happy to see him either, having tried to run the both of you out of the house. The squabbling was put to an end though by you and Tyler, when Oscar smelt that slime monster nearby again. You both snuck out to deal with it, but found the monster confronting that weird girl from your class, who you learned was named Ellie. Turns out Oscar was right that she wasn't normal, as she skewered the slime monster's heart with her sharp hair, before going back to digging through the trash can. When she found out you were there, she got very angry, but not for the reason you thought. She'd been eating out of a garbage can, and you found out she actually had run away from her foster home, and had been living out here for a week. Feeling bad, you stayed with her while Tyler brought back food from his house, then promised her you would see her again tomorrow at the park with new supplies for her.

You look over the contents in your backpack, emptied of school supplies and now stuffed with your room's spare blanket and a few boxes of animal crackers. Your dad agreed to take you to the park today, though you didn't tell him why you wanted to go. You told him you were bringing some of your toys with you, as an excuse to carry your bag along.

“I still don't think you should hang around that girl.” Oscar grumbles behind you.

“She ran away from home Oscar, what else could I do?”'

“Tell dad and let the adults handle it.”

“They'll just take her back to her foster home then.”

“And? Since when is that our problem?”

You sigh, and turn around to see your three-headed companion lazing on the floor, one head lifted up to speak with you. “Oscar, why do you hate her so much? I mean, she overreacted when we saw her eating trash food, but that's over already.”

“I don't trust monsters, and I don't trust Weird even more. Besides, she smells awful.”

You shake your head, and turn back to your bag. Oscar was always like this, he was your best friend but sometimes he really was a big jerk. Your backpack still has some room in it if you wanted to bring something besides the blanket and crackers, was there something else you should bring?

>Yes, grab some (write-in)
>No, we're good to go.

Spare clothes for Emma. Get some pants you don't like very much and one of Dad's gym shirts, or maybe that one you have with Gamma-man on it.

As you think over what else you should bring, a thought occurs to you; Does Ellie actually have any spare clothes? Come to think of it, she was wearing the same clothes you saw her wearing at school, and she's been away from home for a week. Maybe you should take her some spare clothes too.

"Hey, Oscar, you think dad would notice if I took one of his gym shirts?"

"Why?"

"I don't think Ellie has spare clothes, so I'm gonna bring her some."

"Jason, dad's way bigger than her, I don't think his shirt would fit anyways."

"...Oh yeah, that's true. Uh...you think some of my clothes will fit her then."

Oscar's three heads sigh in unison. "I don't know, maybe they'll be a little big but they'll fit better than dad's stuff."

You rise to your feet, and take a look in your closet. You've got plenty of spare shirts and pants you could take her, so you just grab the closest set. One pair of jeans and...hey, this is your old Gamma-man shirt! You forgot you had this, you used to love watching that cartoon! You almost hesitate to take it, you used to love this shirt...

"Are you seriously still holding onto that dumb shirt? I thought the cartoon ended last year or something."

"Hey! Don't call Gamma-man stupid!"

Oscar rolls his eyes, all six of them. He never did like Gamma-man as much as you, thought it looked really lame for some reason.

Well, Ellie would probably need this shirt more than you, and you haven't worn it in a while anyways. With a little hesitation, you stuff the shirt in your bag along with your jeans, zipping the bag up and slinging it over your back.

"Jason! Are you almost ready to go?"

"Coming dad!" You yell down the hall, and start making your way downstairs. Oscar rises to his feet, shrinks down, and hops into your pocket along the way, ready to go as well.

------------
Your dad pulls into the park, a large wooded area with lots of camping trails leading further into the woods. There's a lake in the center of the park, with one of those signs telling people to watch out for amobas or...whatever they're called. Your dad told you what they were called once, but you forgot how it was pronounced, just that your not supposed to put your head underwater when the signs are there. There's also a dog park, though you doubt you could bring Oscar out there without scaring people, and a large playground next to the parking lot.

"Hm, doesn't look like your friend Tyler is here yet, his sister said they may be a while though." Your dad says, putting the car in park. "Why don't you go play with the other kids while you wait?"

"Sure thing dad." You respond, unbuckling your seat belt and climbing out of the car. You stop and bend over, pretending to tie your shoes, and ask Oscar if he can smell Ellie anywhere nearby.

"Yeah, I smell her. You're not gonna wait for Tyler?"

"Where's she at?" You whisper.

"Behind the bathrooms over there."

You nod, and stand back up. "Hey dad, I think I'm gonna go to the bathroom first."

"Oh, okay. Well, I'll be sitting on the bench here alright? Don't go outside this clearing, and don't go with any strangers, you hear?"

"Yeah dad, I got it." You tell him, walking over towards the bathrooms. Honestly, it got a little annoying hearing your dad say not to take candy from strangers or follow strangers to help them look for their dog. You have Oscar, the last thing you need to worry about is strangers.

You reach the bathrooms, and head around back. You don't see Ellie at first, only trees and bushes. "Ellie? Are you here?"

A moment passes, and soon you can see the bushes start to rustle. A familiar figure comes out a moment later, with a few twigs stuck in her hair, wearing the same clothes you saw her in yesterday.

"Hi..." She mumbles awkwardly. "Is your friend here?"

You shake your head. "No, not yet. His sister said they'd be a little late, but I brought some stuff like I said." You unsling your backpack and unzip it, pulling it's contents out and passing them to her. "Brought a blanket like you asked, but I thought you might need some other stuff if you're staying out here."

She takes the stuff one at a time, first the blanket then the animal crackers. She looks over the clothes you brought her curiously though. "Clothes?"

"Yeah, I thought you might like a change of clothes. You've been wearing those same clothes for a while, right?"

She doesn't respond, essentially confirming your suspicion. "They look a little big." She finally says.

"Sorry, was all I had. Try them on, see if they fit." You tell her, mimicking what your dad always told you to do when you went clothes shopping.

She takes the clothes and goes back around, into the bathrooms. A while later she comes back, wearing the change of clothes. The jeans are a little long, but they fit well enough. The shirt also fits for the most part, but the sleeves are a little too long as well, covering her hands.

"Yeah, they're a little big, but they should be fine."

"Thanks..." Ellie mumbles, picking her new blanket back up and rolling the boxes of animal crackers inside. With her new stuff gathered, she just sorta stands there, like she's not sure if she should just leave now or not. Now you kinda wish Tyler were here already, just so things would feel a little less awkward.

"So...how do you do that?" You finally ask, breaking the awkward silence?

"Huh? Do what?"

"That stuff with your hair. Tyler and I saw you kill that slime monster yesterday, how do that?"

"Oh. I just...do?" She says, as though she's not sure how to answer.

"Yeah, but how? Oscar said you had some kind of little monster, does that do it?"

"Little monster? What are you talking about."

"It doesn't work like that." Oscar speaks up, climbing out of your pocket just enough to poke his three heads out. "Weird are like parasites. They attach to kids like we do, but they climb in their ears and basically become a part of their kid."

"...In my ear?" Ellie says, as though this were news to her.

"Duh, you don't think normal people can use their hair like that, do you?"

"Wait, Ellie, you don't know any of this?" You ask.

Ellie shakes her head "No...All I know is I can fight with my hair, and sometimes I can feel when monsters like that one are around." She says, pointing to Oscar.

"Yeah, Weird don't talk. I'm not even sure if they can. They just find hosts to hide from bigger monsters, and give them monster powers to protect themselves."

"...Wait, is that why I feel like I need to eat stuff with my hair?" Ellie finally speaks up.

"We don't call them 'Weird' just because, you know.” Oscar responds, rolling his eyes.

“Don't mind him, he's usually grumpy.” You reassure her. “Anyways, it's dangerous to live out on the streets with monsters running around, isn't it? How long do you plan to stay out here.?”

Ellie doesn't reply at first. She hangs her head, and takes a seat on the grass, blanket held in her lap. “...I don't know.”

You sit down next to her, wondering if maybe you shouldn't have asked. “Well, why did you run away in the first place? Maybe I can help or something.”

Ellie shakes her head. “You can't, I ran away because they just don't like me.”

“Why? Do you know?”

She nods sadly. “There are other kids that stay there, one of them used to pick on me. I got tired of it and fought back one time, but then everyone in the house started avoiding me. Not just the kids, but the adults too.”

“Fought back? Wait, was this...?” You recall a story Tyler told you yesterday, how someone apparently got sent to the hospital after picking on Ellie. Supposedly, no one saw what happened, just that she was standing over him and the kid blamed her.

She nods again. “Yeah. He was one of the kids at my foster home. I didn't mean to hit him that hard but...” She sighs. “Now everyone at home is afraid of me. Even the kids in school don't want to sit next to me.”

You're silent, not quite sure what to say next. “I mean, I'm not-”

Suddenly, Oscar starts to sniff the air, climbing out of your pocket. He's still small, so no one will see him, but he walks towards the edge of the woods and starts to growl. “Jason, I smell another one.”

“Really? Another one?” You're surprised, rogue monsters used to be really rare back in Virginia, you haven't even been here a week and you've found two already.

“Yeah. There's another one too, smells familiar. Think it's...one of your classmates, either kickball kid or his sister.”

Kickball kid? Oh, Ian. Oscar must be talking about that one kid you played kickball with at recess, Ian or his sister Samantha. What would they be doing out here?

You think about it for a second. "Let's wait Oscar, Tyler should be here soon."

Oscar groans. “Come oooon! The weird girl stole the last one, you wouldn't let me finish it when we first saw it, what if kickball kid's monster eats it first?”

“If that happens, then whatever. Aren't you usually the one that doesn't want to get involved with other monsters?”

“Cause you won't let me eat other kids' monsters, Unbound are the only ones I'm allowed to eat!”

“Look, it'll only be a few minutes I'm sure. Better safe than sorry, right?”

Oscar is almost theatrical in expressing his disappointment, sighing a little too heavily for it to be completely sincere, drooping his fanned tail like a sad dog, before finally sitting back down with his three heads resting on a paw.

“Is he always...?”

“Yes.” You answer, before Ellie even finishes her question. Still, you knew Oscar, he wouldn't stay down for too long, and if he was then a good dog biscuit always seemed to make him stop sulking.

----------
A couple minutes of waiting pass, and finally Oscar perks one of his noses up to sniff the air. “Ugh, finally, he's here.” He grumbles, rising back to his feet.

Sure enough, Tyler soon rounds the corner to find you, Ellie, and Oscar waiting for him. “Oh, hey guys. Sorry I'm late, my sister had to-”

“Don't care, monster hunting time!” Oscar interrupts, flexing his claws and pacing by the wood's edge.

“Huh? Monster?” Tyler asks, confused.

“Oscar smelt one out in the woods, along with one of our classmates. Either Ian or Samantha, but they both have monsters so they should be fine. I wanted to wait until you were here before we go after them.”

“...We? Does that mean she's coming too?” Tyler asks, still a little wary of Ellie.

“...I don't want my blanket and clothes to get dirty.” She responds, seemingly uninterested in fighting more monsters.

“Oh. Well, you can hang back if you don't want to fight. Tyler and I will be back when-”

“No more talk, fighting now!” Oscar cuts you off, swiftly growing back to full size and picking you up by your collar. You're tossed onto his back and barely have time to hold on before Oscar starts running into the brush. You have to look down to avoid being swatted in the face by twigs, but from the sound of crunching leaves behind you it sounds like Tyler and Delta are following suit.

Soon, Oscar brings you to a trail, and you're able to look up again. Deeper and deeper into the woods you go, following the trail for most of the way. Finally, Oscar leaps into the air and you break past a screen of trees, landing in a grassy clearing...just a little too late.

Sure enough, Ian is here, along with what appears to be his monster. A very large creature, hovering above it's child. It has two large fists, a long cape, and apparently no legs. It seems to be perpetually on fire, and while vaguely humanoid in appearance, it's head is certainly not human. In front of it, collapsed on the ground, is another dead monster, this one long and gangly, looking almost like a humanoid tree, but not quite. Ian and his monster turn around in surprise as you and Oscar burst into the scene, landing a good distance away from them.

“DANG IT!” Oscar shouts. “I TOLD you it'd be gone by the time we got here!”

Behind you, you hear the sound of brush moving, and soon Tyler and Delta enter the scene as well. Ian's eyes glance over to Tyler as well, and a smile spreads on his face.

“Oh hey, didn't think you guys would be here, how's it going!”

“Uh, hey Ian. We're doing fine, thought there was a monster here so we came to get rid of it, but...”

“But nooooo, we had to wait for Tyler to get here! You see what I mean Jason? If we didn't bother waiting we'd have it, but now look!” Oscar continues to gripe.

Ian tilts his head. “Wow, sounds like your monster really wanted to fight.” He says, seemingly unsurprised to see that you and Tyler also have monsters.

“Yeeaaah, he's always like this.” You explain awkwardly.

A grin spreads on Ian's face, his hands resting proudly on his hips. “Well hey, this guy was kinda boring to fight anyways, I don't mind fighting if you wanna! I'll even let your monster have the one we killed if you can win!” He offers, the giant monster hovering over him putting his fists up in a dramatic display, the fires around it burning brighter at the prospect of another fight.

"Oh. Uh...sure?" You respond, honestly surprised that Ian not only doesn't seem surprised to see you and Tyler with monsters, but that he's also perfectly willing to fight, seemingly just for fun.

"Wait, can I?" Oscar says, surprised you're actually okay with this.

"So long as you don't hurt Ian. Or his monster, too much." You tell him.

"Uh, what about us?" Tyler asks, pointing to himself and Delta.

"You can fight too, Dis is pretty strong." Ian says proudly. Dis? Is that his monster's name?

You climb off of Oscars back. His teeth are curved in what almost looks like an intimidating grin, simply chomping at the bit to finally eat a rogue monster again. "Just try to keep up." He says to Delta, other heads growling at their floating opponent.

Oscar runs forward, towards his fiery opponent. He leaps into the air, over a giant fist that might have otherwise punched him right into the ground, and he tears at the monster (Dis?)'s strange, cylindrical head. The monster shouts, a strange sound that sound more like a burst of flame, and swats Oscar away. However, Dis is in for a surprise. Around the spot where he was bitten, glacial ice starts to spread across his face, seemingly unhindered by the flames burning around him. You were familiar with this effect; It happened to everything Oscar bit.

As Oscar lands, however, he starts to whimper a little. A closer looks shows little sparks of fire burning on his faces, quickly snuffed out but still notable. It seems this monster has some ability that hurts whatever touches it.

Delta, who had been standing back up until now, starts to rush forward. However, before he can really enter the fight, Oscar notices his approach and steps in his way, growling angrily.

"Back off, this one's mine!" He yells, turning his attention back to the fight.

>Multiple monsters

Sharp claws it is. As a side note, the actual hit location is decided by the number of paired dice. (so two 4's will hit their 4 location, and three 9's will hit their 9 location). You can try to hit a specific location if you want to, although you take a -1 die penalty on the roll. I'll add these rules to the pastebin later.

Dis pulls back his fist, and throws a massive punch at Oscar. Oscar, however, is too quick. He leaps into the air, and the fist crashes into the ground below him, creating a small crater. Oscar lands on his hand, runs up his arm, and slashes the massive monster again, leaving grievous wounds behind. Dis reaches for his face, and the floating creature falls onto the ground, seemingly grumbling in some strange language.

Ian looks actually surprised by his monster's defeat. He's not worried, anyone with a monster would know that it takes a lot more than that to actually kill a monster, but it doesn't look like he actually expected to lose, let alone so quickly.

"YEAH!" Oscar proudly shouts, his other two heads pointed to the sky, howling. "No one can beat me, moron! Now I-"

His words are quite suddenly cut off after something seems to slash at his leg. He yelps in surprise and leaps back, sniffing the air for whatever did that.

"Who's there?! Why can't I smell you?!" He yells into the woods, and soon he receives an answer.

"My my, what a loud dog." A voice calls out from nowhere. Then, seemingly from thin air, a new figure materializes between him and Dis. Another monster, this one different. It appears almost like a very well-dressed human woman, standing at normal human height with normal human appendages. However, something feels very wrong about her. Her voice seems to echo from all around rather than her directly, and she wears a strange mask with black eye holes that don't appear to have anything behind them. In her hands are a series of thin strings, almost like the kind you'd see on a puppet, a few stained with red blood, specifically Oscars.

A moment later, another figure comes out of the bushes, this one more familiar. Samantha, Ian's sister, steps out from the bush behind the new monster. “Honestly Ian, this is why I told you not to run off on your own.”

Her brother laughs nervously. “Heh, sorry. It's not what you think though, the wild monster's already dead. These are their monsters, see?” He tells her, pointing towards you and Tyler.

Samantha looks over, noticing the two of you for the first time. “Oh, you two? I figured Jason must have had a monster, but Tyler, you too?”

“Wait, how did you know I have one?” You finally ask, wondering why no one seems surprised to know you have Oscar.

“Our monsters said a new monster came in last week. You're the only new kid in class, soooo...” Ian clarifies. Oh yeah, that's true. You suppose it wouldn't be that hard to figure out you have a monster in that case, provided their monsters actually mention there's a new monster.

Oscar growls. “Listen here, I beat the big guy fair and square. That Unbound is mine!” He asserts, barring his teeth.

“Oh dear, what an aggressive mutt. Perhaps your master should consider buying a muzzle for you.” The new monster taunts, holding a hand before the mouth on it's mask.

“Madame, don't taunt them please.” Samantha says, stepping up next to the masked monster. “Ian, is Dis okay?”

The large monster cradles it's head as though it has a headache, but gives Samantha a thumb's up.

“Alright, good. Lets get back home then before mom and dad find out we're gone.”

“Fine, fine.” Ian says, following after her. Dis follows suit, picking itself off the ground and floating after it's master. Before they reach the treeline, however, Ian turns back and gives you a happy grin. “Good fight Jason, you'll have to tell me how your monster got so strong later!”

“...Alright?” You respond, surprised by how gracefully Ian is taking his monster's defeat. Regardless, the two disappear into the treeline, supposedly returning home.

“...Well that happened.” Tyler says, summing up your thoughts quite nicely.

“That it did. But now, CHOW TIME!” Oscar shouts happily, pouncing on the dead monster and tearing into it's oak-like flesh.

>Monster consumed!
>Monster upgrades will be handled at the end of the thread.

Tyler looks a little grossed out to see Oscar start eating, but honestly you're unphased. It's not the first time he's eaten a rogue monster, so you've learned not to get too grossed out. A while later, however, another person enters the clearing, this time from behind you.

“Guys...” Ellie says as she enters the clearing, stopping to catch her breath.

“Oh, hey Ellie. I thought you were staying behind, is something wrong?” You ask. Did she run all the way here?

“I think...your parents are looking for you.” She says, after she's caught her breath some.

“What?”

“There's two adults walking around the park, yelling your names.”

...Oh crap, how long were you gone?

“Oscar! We've gotta get back to the park!”

Your three-headed friend looks up from the dead monster, a scrap of tree-trunk colored meat in his teeth. “Already?”

“Yeah, dad's looking for me, come on!”

Oscar tosses the meat in the air, gulping it down in one bite, then runs over. You climb onto his back, and help Ellie climb onboard as well. Soon, Oscar and Delta are running back the way they came, towards the park.

---------
Oscar and Delta drop the three of you off at the edge of the wood, behind the bathrooms. You all walk out into sight, and soon you spot Chloe and your dad, calling yours and Tyler's names. Soon they notice you as well, and come running over.

“Jason, where have you been?!” Your dad demands, relief and anger mixing in his voice.

“Tyler, I told you to stay in sight!” Chloe likewise scolds your friend.

You both look at each other, silently wondering what to tell them. Ellie, meanwhile, hangs a little bit behind you, not entirely sure what she should say, if anything.

"We were...playing with our new friends. This is Ellie, there were two other kids but they had to go home. We just weren't paying attention and wandered to far." You tell them, coming up with the best excuse you can; Not quite a lie, but not quite the truth either.

>Face 1+0 Connive. Auto-fail.

Your dad looks suspicious, and you can't help but get nervous. You never were particularly good at lying, and your dad was like some kind of human lie-dector; He always said it was because he's a dad.

Your dad looks over at you, then looks over at Ellie. He sniffs, and blinks in mild surprise, possibly noticing that Ellie smells.

"Chloe, would you mind if I talked to Jason and his new friend alone?" He asks, and Chloe nods, though she herself looks a little confused.

With the three of you alone, he crouches down and looks at Ellie, gesturing for her to come closer. "Well hi there, you must be Jason's new friend. Ellie, was it?"

She steps closer, but looks about as nervous as you are. She nods, unable to give a verbal response.

"That's a nice shirt, do you watch Gamma-man too? My son Jason loves that show too."

Oh crap, your dad is onto you.

"Y-yeah, I watch it all the time." Ellies says, not looking your dad in the eye.

Ooohh you're so caught. Ellie doesn't know that Gamma-man stopped showing a year ago.

"Really? It looks a little big though, your parents might want to take it back and get a smaller one. Actually, where are your parents? Do they know you're here?"

You can almost feel Oscar recoiling in your pocket as well. You're so caught, you can already tell. It seems Ellie realizes that too, as she just starts to hang her head in silence.

"Dad, it's...complicated." You intervene, hesitant to tell him everything, but knowing you can't say nothing.

He raises an eyebrow, a look of concern starting to spread on his face. "...Ellie, do you mind doing me a favor and rolling your sleeves up?" He asks, although you're not sure why he'd ask that.

Ellie looks as confused as you, but obliges. Her arms are fine, devoid of any marks, and your dad seems a little relieved for some reason.

"You never answered Ellie, are your parents around?" He asks again.

"...No."

"Did you come to the park by yourself?"

"...Yes."

Your dad thinks for a moment, apparently wondering how to handle this. Finally, he looks up at her again. "Alright then. Well Ellie, why don't you do me a favor and tell me why you came here alone? You're not in trouble, I promise, just go ahead and tell me what's going on."

--------
Your dad sits with you and Ellie, listening to Ellie as she explains her situation. Obviously, she doesn't tell him about how she sent a kid to the hospital, but she does explain that she felt unwelcome and has been away from home for a week. Your dad frowns at that, and asks if her foster parents ever came to check on her at the school, to which she shakes her head. He stands up and thinks to himself for a moment, then sighs. He asks you to wait here for a moment, then goes over to talk to Chloe again. You can't hear what they're saying, but Chloe gasps and looks over at Ellie with concern. They talk a while later, and finally your dad comes back.

"Ellie, do you know your foster home's address?"

Ellie nods her head.

"Alright. Well, you know I can't just leave you out here alone on the streets, it's dangerous. Jason, show her where the car is, I need to make a phone call real quick."

Oh crap, is your dad taking her back to her foster home?

>"Dad, that's unfair! She doesn't want to go back!"

Your heart sinks. "Isn't there something else we can do? She really doesn't want to go back..."

Your dad pauses for a moment and sighs. "I'm sorry sport, but I'm not sure there's much else we can do. It's too dangerous for a kid to be out on the streets, especially with some of the news going around."

Ellie hangs her head, and you do too. Your dad looks sad, but turns his head away and tells you to go to the car. Ellie doesn't move at first, but you tap her on the shoulder to get her attention and you both start trudging towards the car. You think you hear Ellie starting to sniffle a little as you get up to the car, but you open the back door and let her get in. You don't climb in though, not yet at least. You never were good with people crying, it always made you feel bad as well, and you couldn't think of anything to say that might cheer her up, so you give her some time to herself instead.

Your dad watches you go, and pulls his phone out of his pocket. You see him dial a number, and he starts to pace a little, waiting on the other end to pick up. You watch him, and when he turns around his eyes meet yours, sad, and he looks into the car where Ellie is likely starting to cry.

He sighs, adjusts his glasses, and seems to hang up. Then he dials another number.

You can't quite hear the following conversation, but you're able to make out little bits and pieces of what your dad is saying from where you are.

"Yeah, it's me...one of my son's classmates...foster home...Yeah...Uh huh...A week...Well what am I supposed to tell them? ...Uh huh...Full? Really? ...Come on John, I know there's something you can do...What? Me? John, that's...No, I'm not saying that, but is that...Uh huh...And there's really no others? ...Alright, fine, you're right...First name Ellie, last name I'm not...long hair, goes to...You found it? Alright, and your certain that...Alright...Okay. I appreciate it John, really....Alright, I will. I'll call you then, bye."

Your dad hangs up, and starts walking towards the car. The expression on his face is a little hard to read, what was he talking about? He tells you to get in the car, and you oblige. He's in shortly after you, and takes a deep breath before he turns the key in the ignition.

-------
The car drives down the road in silence. Ellie says nothing, and neither do you or your dad. You spend the majority of the car ride looking down at your shoes, yelling at yourself for not picking a different shirt. When the car finally stops, however, you look up and are surprised to find that you are sitting in your house's driveway.

"...Dad?"

He unbuckles his seatbelt, and turns around to face Ellie, who looks just as confused as you do. He pulls his glasses off, and immediately you can tell something serious is coming. Your dad never took his glasses off unless things were serious.

"Listen, Ellie, I really can't let you just stay on the streets alone. You understand that, right?"

She nods her head.

"Alright. Well, at the same time, I don't think it's right to take you back when your foster parents didn't bother to look for you after a week. I got off the phone with someone I know, and I've made a decision. Jason, would you mind if Ellie takes the guest room for a while?"

"Here? Wait, is she moving in?!" You ask, completely surprised.

"Just for a while. None of the other foster homes in town have available space, and her old home is going to be under investigation soon, so I've gotten permission to give her room and boarding until space clears up at another foster home. That is, if you're okay with that Ellie. I can take you to the police and they'll find another place for you to stay if you prefer."

Ellie looks absolutely dumbfounded by the unexpected offer. For a moment she just stares at your dad from under her black bangs, until she realizes she's been asked a question and stumbles to find her words again. "N-No, I don't mind...Are you sure it's okay though?"

"I'm sure. Like I said, it's only temporary, but your welcome to stay with us in that time if you want."

It's a little hard to tell with her eyes under her hair, but you think you can see her eyes start to well up with tears again, but this time for an entirely different reason. She only manages to nod her head, unable to form other words.

"Alright then. Here, this key opens the front door. Go ahead and let yourself in, just remember to close the door behind you alright?"

She takes the keys and climbs out of the car. You hear her sniffle before she closes the door, and see the faintest hint of a smile on her face as she walks past your door up to the house.

Your dad takes a deep breath, and massages his temples. "God, what am I getting myself into?" You hear him mumble, just loud enough that you can hear.

>"Dad, are you sure this is okay?"
>"Is everything alright? You sound worried."

You unbuckle your seatbelt and lean over the console, giving your dad a hug. The worried expression on his face starts to fade a little, replaced with a warm smile as he hugs you back.

"Sorry for going ahead with this before asking you, sport."

"It's fine dad."

"I know, but still, I feel like I should have-"

"Dad, it's fine. Really."

He pats your back and puts his glasses back on. "Alright, thanks son. Go on ahead and help Ellie get situated, I still have a couple calls I need to make."

You nod, and climb out of the car. It was because of moments like this that you really loved your dad, he always seemed like the coolest guy on earth. You still remember when the adults brought you back to him, and told you you'd be staying with him again. You cried, kind of like Ellie did when your dad said she could stay. You would have to thank him sometime for all the stuff he's done, but for now you head back inside the house, to show Ellie where everything is.

The dark forest is lit solely by the crew's flashlights, as they investigate the clearing under the cover of night. Men in hazmat suits examine the scene, while people in black kevlar vests guard the perimeter, armed with assault riffles. A lone figure stands out amongst them, dressed in military Class A, his rank and ribbons displayed proudly.

"Major, we have positive identification." One of the men in hazmats reports.

"Don't make me beg then, lieutenant, what did you find?"

"Two confirmed monsters, one positive match. The positive match has been identified as subject #246, now deceased."

"Eaten by the other monster, no doubt. What about the other one?"

"Unknown, sir. We found a blood sample, but unfortunately all we've confirmed is that the source was neither human nor animal in nature, although it is red like normal blood. We've narrowed it down to 107 possible subjects based on it's color, but we'll need more samples to positively identify the specific subject."

"Search the surrounding area then. If you can't find enough samples, set it aside in case we find more traces in the city later."

The man in the hazmat suit salutes, and returns to work. Come morning, the crew would be long gone, with no trace left behind of their presence, or of the supernatural fight that took place here. The crew was unable to identify the second subject, although they were able to confirm that at least two other uniedentified monsters were present at the scene. The samples were put away for later use, and an alert was put out that all unidentified samples must be brought into the lab shortly after discovery, under the Major's direct orders.

The organization placed Greensvile under it's Watch List, and a team was assigned to keep an eye on any supernatural activity within the city.

Alright, gonna call it a night here folks. I'll handle human and monster upgrades in the next post, but story-wise this should be the end of the thread. I'll hang around for a while after everything's been handled, feel free to ask me questions if you have any or else post them on my ask.fm if I don't reply after a few hours.

Thanks for playing! Hope you all had fun, and I'll see you guys next time!

We can't upgrade our body?
>>
>>680191
Not quite. Holy Sword Quest had moments where you were having good times with your friends, and then other moments when you had to deal with the brewing demon war. This quest will probably be a bit similar.

>>680209
>Where did you come up with this idea what ar your insperations
I actually got the idea from an RPG system, which the quest's system is based on (hence why it's a tad bit clunky. I'll see if I can smooth things out where needed). It's called Monsters and Other Childish Things, the premise being that your character is a kid who also happens to have an eldritch monster for a best friend, the same set-up as here.
>Also whay happened to poor Tyler he was carted off and we didn't see him after that
Your dad kinda stepped in to handle the situation, and Chloe essentially went "Oh. Come on Tyler, Mr.Fisher will handle this, we probably should get in the way."

>>680192
>Remind me,did we know anything about this from the previous threads?
It's been mentioned once before that Jason's parents are divorced. It was in Thread 2, this was what it said.
>>You don't like talking about your mom, she and your dad got divorced a while ago. You were too young at the time to remember everything, but you remember your mom told people some really bad things about your dad that weren't true. Your dad was really sad for a while after that, but he cheered up after you started living with him for good. She hasn't called or visited you ever since, and to be honest you can't say you miss her.

Also, I saw that last thread, thanks Drawnon! Always happy to see your stuff.
