"Well... I've been through worse, monkey boy." you laugh weakly. Looks like your injuries are healed, but you might still need some rest.

"You were in over your head." Piccolo grunts, walking out the doorway behind Mighty Mask.

"H-hey, that's not fair!" Chuu Lee protests.

Piccolo looks to Vegeta with a glare. "...don't think I'll let you use the Dragon Balls, Saiyan."

The Saiyan prince, leaning against a wall, chuckles. "You believe you'll take me down, Namekian? You fools should have learned from her mistake. Don't make promises you can't keep."

"Don't be so sure you'll be the one in the finals, Piccolo." Mighty Mask tells the Namekian with... an odd sense of familiarity as he says his name.

You sigh, turning your attention to your kids. Gohan looks at you sadly, but... there's also a look of understanding in his eyes. Peppa meanwhile is glaring at Vegeta, and you can feel how angry she is.

"Save your breath. The boy saw it clear as day. Any 'next time' will just have an even worse result for you." Vegeta mocks, catching the attention of everyone.

Goku and Chuu Lee stand, eyes harshly focused on Vegeta. But your daughter... a golden aura erupts from around her, her hair standing on end. For a brief moment, Vegeta's eye has a nervous twitch as she stares him down as a Super Saiyan. You put your hand on her shoulder, shaking your head. "Peppa, no."

She clearly wants to protest that, but as you gently squeeze her shoulder, she relents. "...yes mama."

You sigh in relief, then, after making sure Peppa's turned away, look to Vegeta. "Good match. Congratulations on your win."

Your daughter is surprised, Vegeta just giving a dismissive snort. Peppa powers down, floating up to you. "Buh why?"

You ruffle her hair as it changes color. "Because being mad about losing helps no one, and shows disrespect. He won, and it's nice to congratulate your opponent when winning." you explain to her. "...by the way, Vegeta, still planning on using the Dragon Balls? That might be a bad idea, all things considered."

"I earned it, didn't I?" he retorts, approaching the window to watch Piccolo's match.

You stand, stumbling slightly. Goku catches you and helps you up as you walk to the window as well. "You seem to have found the answer yourself. Why waste a wish on it?"

Vegeta just looks on silently, Mighty Mask and Piccolo staring each other down. You focus on the match yourself. Piccolo seems exceedingly confident today. "A fair warning, I'm not going to hold back. A shame you had to face me in the first round."

"A shame?" Mighty Mask asks. "I've waited for this for quite a while, Piccolo. It's just my luck it happens so soon." He then... powers up?

"Let the third quarterfinal match BEGIN!"

You focus on Mighty Mask's Ki. This is... nothing like what he had in the Prelims. He seemed like an above-average human. But this... this is different. In fact, you're not even sure he IS an Earthling at this point. Power Level is... at least 10 million now. And climbing.

Piccolo seems to have realized it as well. "You... what ARE you?"

Mighty Mask laughs. "A masked fighter seeking vengeance. If you can't figure it out by now..." He blitzes at Piccolo with ferocious speed. "Then you'll learn soon enough!"

Piccolo guards the first attack, pushed back slightly but redoubling his focus. Goku and Chuu Lee watch the fight intently as you look back to Vegeta. "What IS your wish going to be, now that you've won it? We could get that question answered a less costly way, you know."

He snorts dismissively again. "Something worthy of my victory, make no mistake. I'll be the strongest of Saiyans... and I won't fall prey to the same mistakes Kakarot and Raditz made."

Goku looks to Vegeta with a frown. "Mistakes, huh?"

"I will gain power on my own, Kakarot. And I will show you low-class warriors that you got lucky." he retorts with a grin.

"It was more than luck." Goku replies with a confident smile.

"...you know Vegeta, it sounds like you actually haven't made up your mind." you comment. "Well, maybe you could use the Dragon Balls for something else. Ooh, like a cool starship! You know, something that really stands out, something that'll let you cruise the stars in style!"

For a very, very brief moment, it almost looks like Vegeta considers that. He then frowns and focuses back on the fight.

"KAIO-KEN! TIMES TWENTY!" Piccolo roars, the red aura surrounding him blazing outward, the Namekian gaining the upper hand... for a moment. His opponent is strong, astoundingly so, probably stronger than Freeza. But at this point, so is Piccolo.

Mighty Mask fires a barrage of Ki attacks at Piccolo, the Namekian easily swatting them aside... only for the blasts to return back and strike Piccolo in the back. His opponent follows it up with a knee strike to the jaw, launching Piccolo into the air. The Namekian stops himself, then smirks.

As his opponent flies at him, Piccolo fires an MP Buster and scores a direct hit, leaving an afterimage and countering as his foe keeps flying towards him. Mighty Mask stops himself before he goes out of bounds, then floats back into the ring. "Hmnh. Same trick as before..."

Piccolo lands on the ring, dropping the Kaio-ken momentarily and doing his best to recover his body while his opponent lets him. "So. It is you." You sense Piccolo start to prepare for his next attack, but there's something different about it... "Tell me... how the hell are you still alive?!" Piccolo demands. "Tien and I were there, Kogeki! No one could have survived that!"

Piccolo's declaration catches everyone by surprise. You recall the name. The Heran who was guarding Korin. And... he's right, if what he claimed was true. Mighty Mask chuckles maliciously. "Ah, Tien, that other thorn in my side. It's too bad he managed to disqualify himself. No matter... he will pay as well." Kougeki brings his hand back, charging a Ki attack... and while small, there's something awfully powerful about it. As if it's packed with several times more energy than it should be. "As for how I'm alive? Well, my benefactor was kind enough to pay for the Medical bills." finally he answers as he taps his gut.

"Towa." you mumble.

He looks towards you with a glare, a slight boom of an explosion audible from the Tournament floor, which draws his attention away.

You teleport to Towa... who is much farther away than you thought she'd be. Outside the city limits, on a small, familiar mountain. And she's viewing the Tournament through some kind of projection. "...interfere with his match, you say?"

"Yeah, don't do that. Please." you ask nicely, looking around. "...no white-haired muscle guy with you this time?"

"Mira is..." she noticeably hesitates before answering you completely, keeping her face away from your own. "...busy, at the moment."

Sssssuspicious. You approach her, eyebrow raised. "So, your handiwork?"

"Kougeki is helping me test something, little Tufle girl. And I must say, it's working spectacularly. Gero will be happy with the results." she states with a sly, devilish smile.

"SPIRAL BOLT CANNON!" Piccolo hollers, firing a tightly focused beam surrounded by a gigantic spiral of electricity, over twice Piccolo's own size in width. You watch Kougeki... not even try to dodge it, catching the beam and somehow dissipating it. You then see him dash behind Piccolo and...

You flinch slightly as you see what happens next. Kougeki delivers a chop to Piccolo's arm... that slices it clean off from just below the shoulder. With his free hand he grabs Piccolo's now detached arm and starts... just wailing on him with it. The crowds are horrified by this. Piccolo is finally smashed back onto the floor, panting heavily. He then lets out a roar as he regrows his arm.

"You really believe I'd interfere with Vegeta's match?" Towa questions, finally looking you in the eye with a smug, confident smirk. "Oh you have no idea just what you've done all on your own."

You glare at her. What YOU'VE done? ...wait a second...

"Why thank you. Such confidence you have in me, Towa. And here I was thinking that you didn't care." you reply, trying to think all this. The screen turns back to the match. Kougeki's torn away his shirt and buffed up slightly, his hair turning a much more reddish color. And... his skin has gone completely green.

"Looks like that glamour can't hold his state like that. I'll have to work on it some more..." Towa comments, then taps the screen away with her staff. "Well, I have what I need, little Tuffle girl. I thank you again for all your wonderful help."

She's going to vanish again.

You fail to grab her before she vanishes again. You sigh loudly and try to gauge where you are. The place... looks familiar, but you're not-

"MAPLE?!" Raditz's voice shouts to you. You turn to face him, spotting Chiaotzu and Krillin, all three of them wearing armor belonging to the PTO. "What... what are you doing here? Who was that?"

There have to be some other races with their own super tech out there somewhere under pto's former command. Tuffles just had the cellphone analog and a few other bits from what I can see.

Anyway, considering our loss last time, we need to consider methods to gain more strength. Perhaps it is time to revisit old techniques, like meditation and seeking the esoteric (think Mt. Rumble or the Ultra Divine Water), in addition to physical training. Also, we should probably push ourselves with the Kaio Ken and endurance for our forms further, get to the point where we could Kaio Ken x10 and Raio Ten maybe.

It closely resembles the dice system from German Hollow Quest, which I am generally content with.

Though it seems like Hollow Luck is more in style now than Tuffle Luck these days. But that's more of a Super RNGesus issue more than a dice mechanic issue.

Chuu Lee seemed to imply that maintaining the transformations over long periods of time was the way to go here. Kinda like how Goku & Gohan did for their SSJ training in the Cell Saga.

We could also try and get together with King Kai and other notable Ki users and try and figure out how the Kaio-ken (and by extension, the Raio-ten) technique actually messes up your body.

The bad news.

I came way too damn close to losing... basically everything? Computer's REALLY gone to crap. I won't be able to run again for a while, so consider this thread over.

The good news.

I managed to back up everything I could, and thanks to the help of some friends I should be able to run by Friday, Sunday latest. I just need to clear my browser history about 50 times before then. Or probably not, the worst of it is exceptionally vanilla.

I am so, so sorry about all this, and hopefully we'll be able to pick everything back up again soon.
