Dredge...

"faen Dredge" You say as if the words came automatically from your mouth, sitting on a tree as you watch a fairly big armada slowly but surely approaching the disgusting pighole you call a village.

"Where you in the right?" an all too familiar voice comes from below the tree you're sitting on

"Damn right I was" you scowl as you spit to the ground "Damn the stubborn idiots that wanted to hole up in this place"

"We could have left whenever we wanted and you know they would have thrown us out any second" The voice says condescendingly as you step down from the tree

"The seed of doubt was planted in my head by those wenches, thank the gods I can see clearly now" You stutter a bit as you realize how useless that expression has become due to the dead of the gods

"Very well, I won't press on." the voice says as it knows that you aren't known for your open mindedness and ease of debate "But what is the course of action now?"

>1. "We gather as many people as we can and we leave, the son of yoxes will owe us for a good while"
>2. "Gather anyone that hasnt wronged us, even if the number is low. the rest can rot in hell"
>3. "We leave. Now"

"Gather anyone that hasnt wronged us" You say to your companion, a quick laugh followed after

"I can count them with my hands" the voice says mockingly, not many people are able to mock you without getting hurt in some way

"It dosent matter the number, they deserve a fair warning and a chance of escaping, the others can rot in hell for all I care" You growl as you look back at your companion, the only person that has remained loyal to you just as much as you have to them

>A massive Varl whose scarred face betrays a personality of a sleeping giant, who befriended you after you were the only one that wasnt scared by his presence
>A young fairskinned girl, who you have taken under your custody after her parents disowned her and her people exiled her
>An man no older than you who was the only one to remain by your side, even after you were casted away from social normalcy

>A young fairskinned girl, who you have taken under your custody after her parents disowned her and her people exiled her
>>

You look at the girl, her daintly face betrayed a maturity reached well before any girl her age, result of spending her life with you. Sometimes you ask yourself if you should have taught her to enjoy life a little bit more, maybe things would have gone differently, but everything is in the past now.

"You find the people, I'll find the supplies" You say to your protege as you gesture her to start moving, she gives a small nod of confirmation and leaves in a slight jog towards the small village, girl never liked to take things slowly.

as you look at your surroundings you wonder how to get supplies quickly and cost-efficiently

>1. go into peoples homes and take their supplies, bastards deserve this
>2. hunts some prey and recollect some berries, fresh food is always good

You dislodge your axe from the tree you were climbing and take the bow and arrow that were resting at the bottom of the tree, warming up with some swings from the axe before heading straight into the woods

One good thing of being left to fend for yourself is that you end up being average at everything, this including hunting killing without so much as a wince of disgust

It also helped that this was essentially your territory and you knew exactly where to find the best game

after a while of sticking pointy things at harmless animals, your pouch gets stacked of meat and berries, it's the best you can carry without being over encumbered

>You have enough supplies for 3 days of travel

some hours later you decide to check on your disciple, going down the hill you were in and getting near the outskirts of the pigpen, I mean "Haukstorp"

You still hope it means pigpen in some sort of untranslated language

as your view start to be filled by the front gates, your disciple sits on the snowy grass, as a group no bigger than ten stands around her impatiently

You consider your method of approach

>1. "Dredge are coming, people are going to die, pack your luggage and follow me, it's better that standing around and waiting for the dredge to kill you"
>2. "if you don't follow me, the dredge will surely find a way to end you, one way or another, it's about time we good people leave this hellhole"
>3. Look at your disciple, she was always better at talking to people than you

"Dredge are coming, people are going to die, pack your luggage and follow me, it's better that standing around and waiting for the dredge to kill you" You say in the best way you could, you were never that good with crowds anyways

small murmurs abound in between the group, you think that they may not trust you yet, but then again you tend to think a lot of things

"I'ts true" your disciple says as she looks at the unsure crowd "More than a hundred dredge are coming, I've seen about 20 of the big ones as well"

the murmurs transform into gasps as a mother hugs her child a little harder than before

A man, who you think his name is Harold comforts his wife as he looks at you

"Is this true? The governor would have told us if it was of such magnitude" his face showing a good amount of concern

"The governor can eat a load of dung for all I care" You and your Disciple say in unison, looking at each other before she continues her talk "Our opinion is more undiluted, The governor prefers a dead yet peaceful crowd, than a rioting group of alive fighters, remember he only sees us as numbers" The girl says as her chestnut brown hair flows slightly with the wind "Following us would be the best course of action, we have a hunter" she points at you "Supplies" points at your pouch "And strong willed men and women" points at the single dozen of people "It's a much better deal than waiting in line for a crumb of bread while the fat slob of Arvid eats a cooked turkry in front of your faces"

You just realized the girl knew the name of the governor, huh, guess she's been studying behind your back.

You wait for the crowd's response, the first one to take a step towards you is Harold, gently dragging his wife and kids with him

"You have my blade" the stone faced man says as he looks at you with piercing blue eyes "I know of your perils with the village, you have survived this long for a reason"

Sooner or later most of the crowd joins you after being convinced from your disciple's speech, women gather around you as your disciple starts to talk with them in a serious manner, explaining them basic stuff about continuous travel and such, the men leave towards their homes, probably in the look for sustenance in the coming days

after a while, the husbands of each household appear with bags full of supplies that could last for a good amount of days

>You have enough supplies for 13 days of travel

>You have 14 clansmen on your side
>You have 2 fighters on your side (Including you)

Your Disciple looks at you with a calm gaze "Ready as they can be"

Now it was your job to take the first step

>1. Leave silently, no one needs to know about this
>2. let your disciple give march, you want to taunt the idiots at the village before you go
>3. "Not yet, one more thing left to do (specify)"

You start moving without the need to say a single word, your disciple on the other hand, is quick to talk to you in a hushed manner

"Okay genius, we have the people on our side, but now what? you think they're going to follow us if they discover we have no Idea where to go?"

Your mind paces for a while as it decides on which path to set on

>1. "We go to Sigrholm, It's defenses are great and the view isnt all that bad to be honest"
>2."We go to Wyrmtoe, Varl might be hard to talk to, but they're certainly tougher than your average person"
>3. "We keep walking until we find no more of them, then keep walking some more, until we reach Strand..."

>>63667
You start scribbling on a small scroll, using some blood on your hand to write down

"writing a will this early?" Your Disciple says

"No, much better"

The note idea was to give the others a chance by let them know to run. Then slapping it on a door kinda of thing. I guess we could start a journal. Starting with some optimism like saying "We will make it". Not sure if that would be out of character at the moment though.

"We keep walking until we find no more of them, then keep walking some more, until we reach Strand..." You say with an honest face, no point on lying

Your assistant face get's filled with something you want to call fear, but she's too tough for that, what you definitely see in her is a sense of dread, almost as if 5 years were taken from her

"So this is truly how we'll live? Running away from the inevitable until all of us fall?" She says, having a hard time believing her own words

You just nod as you throw the blood covered parchment on the mud "We always pull trough, always"

Okay gonna start writing now
>>
First Day taken, 13 supplies remain
>Morale is mildly high

You start on your way out of Haukstorp, some gazes looking at your group with confusion

It dosen't last long before a brute slams his shoulder on your chest "What in the seven hells do you think you're doing? did you think you and your little wench could pass off as humans in front of us?"

Your disciple just looks at the man for a while before ignoring him

You on the other hand..

>1. "We're leaving your sorry ass to rot in the snow! find someone else to kill!"
>2. "None of your damn business you son of a yox"
>3. Punch him in the face with all your might

No time for this crap. We got hell at our backs and snow all around us.
>>
>>64296
>>64287

You don't even need to fight the urge to deck him in the face, by the time he looks at you, a burly fist hits him square in the nose, making him bleed profusely trough it, causing gasps in the women and having most of the clansmen slightly retreating.

>Morale slightly reduced

Your Disciple takes the moment of shock to say to you "You just punched someone from the lumberjack guild y'know? Give him time to recover and we'll have a bunch of angry burly men running towards us"

>1. "Let them come, we'll beat them to a pulp"
>2. Take the initiative and beat the lumberjack unconscious, he can't tattle if he can't move
>3. leave the lumberjack but pick up a steadier pace, enough so that his friends can't find you

>>3. leave the lumberjack but pick up a steadier pace, enough so that his friends can't find you
Maybe they will understand when they see Dredge coming.
>>
>>64345
"We move faster now! this men want to hold us down like pigs!" You spit on the brute as he tries to get into a normal position, only falling again

Your Disciple shouts at the group "You heard the man, we move faster now!"

Harold takes lead as the rest of the clansmen follow suit, going into a small jog while your Disciple goes in front and center.

You give one last kick to the brute before following suit

>Morale is now slightly high

The rest of the day is uneventful, the women and children slow their pace, while some of the men decide to become makeshift scouts

Harold is with his wife and kids, a smile on his face as he recomforts them

Your disciple is walking next to you, her eyes unwavering from the road, keeping up with the pace you have

>Talk to your Disciple
>Talk to Harold
>Have everyone rest for the day
>(locked) You have no carts for people to sleep in
>Keep walking, no matter who gets tired

You approach Harold, most men would doubt even following you, so it's a strange sight that he went out of it's way to follow you without a doubt

"Harold" You say as you approach the man, he wasnt that old, but his face showed way more years than it should, combine that with a clearly cut beard and a short black hair, he was a man of habits

Harold looks at you and nods "Are you here for discussing? or just talk?"

"Talk mostly" You answer, it didnt hurt to be honest once in a while "Just wondering why have you been so steadfast with us"

As soon as he hears this, Harold kisses his wife and she leaves with her kid towards the back of the group

"Thank your assistant" The man says as he looks at your Disciple "I have experience with people, I can see liars a mile away, and she was right, If I stay, nothing will ever actually change, our deaths will only happen more slowly"

You nod in agreement at his speech

"I can also see it in your eyes, You're used to this, used to running away, used to surviving" Harold talks as he looks back on his family, now conversing with other women "I need my family to survive this"

>1. "Your family is safe with us, it's a promise"
>2. "They will need to learn how to survive, just like me"
>3. Say nothing
>>
>>64453
Yeah I actually did forget this, haha. I only remember Godstones were vaguely safe, until they weren't. I even played it twice.
>>
>>64536
>2. "They will need to learn how to survive, just like me"
It will not be an easy road. Yet it will keep them safe. Bows for everybody!
>>

"They will need how to survive, just like me" Your words catch Harold unprepared, he says nothing as he slows his pace, he clearly ddoes not like the idea of having his family fighting

"Okay people! we're having a rest!, set up as many tents as you can, if you need help just ask us" You shout at the group as you slow your pace to a stop, Your Disciple noticing this and going towards you

"Who has guard duty?" She says with those cold eyes of her

>"Me, I've still got some in me"
>"You can do it, I'll get some rest"
>"Ask Harold if he wouldn't mind, Don't press him to do so"
>"Have some of the returning scouts guard, give them extra food as thanks"
>>
>>64605
>>"Me, I've still got some in me"
The girl is doing good work. She has earned the rest.
>>
>>64605
>"Me, I've still got some in me"
>>
>>64611
"Me, I still have some energy to spare"

Your disciple eyes you suspiciously before shrugging "Don't push yourself old man" as she leaves you be and starts to set up camp

>A day passes...well not really but you feel like enough hours have passed

You eyes are tired and your body is screaming for a nap, you honestly don't mind the tiredness that much, you've lasted longer awake

>12 supplies remaining

You wake your Disciple to wake everyone up, meanwhile you take as big of a rest as you can

>You are now the Disciple

You walk around the tent unsure to wake up the Old man, You guess he really forgot that we have to keep moving before the brute and his funky bunch of lumberjacks come for everyone and make us eat dirt

Altough there is the chance they might have left you guys alone, who knows it's not like you knew how lumberjack honor works

>1.Wake the Old man up, we should be on the road by now
>2.Check on everyone else, give the Old man sometime to rest

Better do it while we can.

It's been fun and I hope to see this continued. I need to sleep, later.
>>
>>64672
>3. Ask for the Clansmen to try and build some tools so that stuff like this does not happen again

An hour or two, then we wake him
>>
>>64693
You get out of the makeshift tent and head towards the clansmen, maybe someone is able to build things...although you seriously doubt it

after about an hour of talking you realize some things

1.most of the men were farmers

2. the idiots never tought about bringing the yoxes or carts, even tough they have a lot of them

3, there is a couple that worked as cooks, so hunting could be more successful if we have people that know how to actually handle food

Sadly, no one is skilled enough to make things like medical aids or stuff like that

You consider your possibilities

>1. Wake the old man up, we have to keep going otherwise conflict is inevitable
>2. The yoxes and cart could be extremely useful, we're not that far from town and if we're lucky we can get back without being seen
>3. Give the old man some rest and go on guard duty yourself, maybe you can see if you're actually going to be assaulted by people or dredge

You enter the tent and see the Old man sleeping

His face wasn't really that old, just unkempt and ruggish, you'd swear of he actually did something to improve his image, the guy would be having women left and right, exiled or not.

You kick him on the belly, making his eyes flutter a little bit before closing them again "We can have more time"

"I don't think so, no" You reply quickly "We could always leave your rickety ass in here"

"Watch your word kid, or I'll smack them off of you" Old man says in a hardly threatening manner, getting up from the covers and getting out of the tent "You're the one taking this off" Old man says as he points to the tent

Of course you were going to take the tent off, I'ts not like he would

>You are now the old man

Even tough your quick nap ended abruptly, you have enough energy to go back on track

"1 hour for you to get everything ready!" You shout at the crowd as it starts waking up kids and other people "In 1 hour we leave!"

You see one of the scouts trying to climb a tree and failing incredibly badly

A woman is trying to take off the tent but with no avail

Your Disciple is helping set everything up for the road

Harold seems to be playing with his kids, some kind of leather ball being thrown amongst them

>1.Help the Clansmen climb up the tree
>2.Help the women organize everything
>3. Try to take one last power nap by the side of a tree

You push the women out of the way rather crudely, and start taking off the tent yourself, this is purely childs play for you and end up taking off most of the tents, the clansmen that didnt know how looking at you as you do your magic, you don't really like having all these people look at you, even if it was less than 8

"Ready over here!" Your Disciple shouts as she has some burlap sacks over her "Your side?!"

"Done!" you shout back, realizing that this had just become "your side" for so reason "Okay everyone! time to g-" You words are cut short by the distinct sound of an arrow cutting air

You take no time to push anyone next to you to the floor, the other clansmen looking at you with confused looks

"DOWN!" Your voice shouts as everyone complies, on the corner of your eye, yo see Harold taking a one handed axe and a shield while he intructs his family to lay on the floor

"There! Arvid! There's the desserters!" a man says as he holds a bow and arrow on his hands

Arvid? Arvid.... As in Arvid the Governor?

......

Damn it all to hell

And that's ACTUALLY it for today, dunno when's the next time I can run, but when I can I'l try
>>
>>64860
Interesting run, thanks for extending for a while. I like this setting.
>>
>>64860
Well this will be fun to deal with next time.

I feel we could talk this through depending on the Governor's troop numbers. It will be hard otherwise with two fighters. Plus people getting hurt will not be good with limited supplies.
>>
Since this is a very slow board I'll type in the next post and hopefully will be able to answer later
>>
You look at the massive crowd of people behind the governor, about 120 behind him, but you can see he only has about 3 or 4 fighters, mostly due to the village never actually fighting bandits or raiders in the past

"Stand down men!" A jolly voice comes from behind the archer, a fat guy with a frivolous fur coat appears, having a white beard with it's matching hair "Don't you know that these men are still part of Haukstorp?" he says

You don't really answer, but you turn your head to see your Disciple carrying your bow and arrow as well as your axe, she's hiding behind a tree with the weapons, she was never much of a fighters, but she looks at you trough the mud and hunched women

"Stand up my clansmen! Do not follow this man! While it is true that we have to retreat for some time, please don't fall upon the spiel of this monster and his perverse assistant" Arvid says like he was rehearsing the speech a while ago "We do not want you to perish in the hands of incompetent foragers who don't know about social survival" Arvid expresses as he moves his hand like some sort of lousy messiah

Now that's just baseless

there are 4 fighters on Arvid's side a fight could be winnable but moderately hard

Arvid seems hellbent into getting the people on his side, so democracy wouldnt be a great option unless you know what you're doing

You could try to convince you group to not follow this guys words

Worst case scenario is you're left alone with your disciple once again, with some supplies and just the road ahead

>1.Fight the governor with bloody axes and bow and arrow
>2.fight the governor with words (Your disciple taking lead of course)
>3. "Fine. Go ahead and serve the madman if you want, We'll stay with the supplies"
>>
>>66409
>2.fight the governor with words (Your disciple taking lead of course)
>>
>>66409
>>2.fight the governor with words (Your disciple taking lead of course)
She has been studying when we were not looking.

Right now we have the edge in survival skills. We had more time spent on keeping alive then most. While we are an outcast it has made us strong. At times like these we are needed at the head not some a-hole following our trail.

It is true that we are not the best with people. We are honest with our feelings and words, even if it hurts.
>>
>>66409
>>66439

"Hey! The only monster here is the fat pig I have in front of me!" You shout at the governor "Do you honestly think you are fit for the walk ahead?!"

"In fact, I do" Arvid says condscendingly "We have multiple hunters for the trip, all experts in foraging, as well as a medic and a carpenter" The governor explains "We also have enough yoxes and carts so that people van alternate between seeping and walking"

Okay, you need some of that stuff

"But can your men kill someone in cold blood? can your women ever love them again after they come home bleeding without an arm because the dredge attacked them without expectation?" Your Disciple intervenes, meanwhile some murmurs appear behind the crowd "We were made strong by pure survival, while you sit and daydream about the plans for the following weeks, we make sure everyone lives as well as they can everyday, no sugar coating, and no hand holding, you can have your clansmen if you want Arvid but know that they shall remain weak until the dredge swallows us all..." Your disciple stops for a second before talking again "And may we remind everyone, who was the one that decided to feast on a deer by himself when he was chosen as the new governor? surely a man that does not share his rations wouldn't work as much of a leader, would he?"

Holy hell, that girl is making you proud

The governor looks suddenly less Jovial than before, looking at both of you with expecting eyes

At least you have assured that your clansmen won't leave you

"No" Arvid says as he looks at you menacingly "you and all your deserters can rot in hell" he says before walking towards you and motioning his group to move forward

it takes about 5 minutes for everyone to pass you, by the end of the 5 minute mark, you see a man pulling a yox with a cart somewhat filled with two families and some supplies

"I'm new around these parts" the man with the yox says "So I do not know why you secrete hatred to the masses, I've been told you were a dangerous man and to keep my distance, so I did" The man has stopped altogether, "But your conviction as well as your speech has made me see you in another light....is it true that you want to save everyone here?"

"Everyone who hasn't wronged me deserves my loyalty and protection" you answer "You could be one of them

A full minute passes before the man nods "then you have my cart, hopefully it will suit you well"

>you now have 24 clansmen on your side
>you still only have 2 fighters
>you now have 16 days of supplies

you shake the man's hand and shout at your group "Those who are tired rest on the cart! those who aren't continue marching! We're heading to the high pass so get prepared for mountains!" You shout as you step into the cart to get some much needed sleep

>3rd day

You start walking slower for a while, moving your head around in search for Harold, You have'nt spoken with the man at all, but it seems the Old man is somewhat fond of him.

The thought of the old man being fond of someone makes you further believe that the gods are dead and everything can happen now.

As you find Harold, he seems to be holding his kids hand kindly and tenderly, like a loving family man. Hopefully he will be the last one to break, you're sure everyone will break sooner rather than later

Even you

"Morning" You dismissively say to Harold as he looks at you, his body towering in height over yours, not like it was a strange sight for you.

"Madam" Harold says as he nods at you

"What can you tell me about yourself?" You ask Harold as he looks at you somewhat surprised, he takes a few seconds to answer.

"I was a mercenary, killing people for gold, body guarding princes and merchants alike, Was considered expendable by many, proved them wrong on that regard" The man says as he takes a longing gaze at his wife "But that's all in the past...Now I just want to keep my family safe with a smile on their faces"

"You're certainly succeeding at that...It is quite....admirable" You respond, you wanted to say wonderful, but that kind of optimism often gets you nowhere "I won't disturb you no longer" You say as you take lead once again

>14 days of supplies remaining

You have just entered into the high pass, rocky terrain inbound, Your Disciple sitting in the cart as he looks for anything of interest

as you walk you can hear a scream, you turn your head quickly and see a man shouting about breaking his leg and throwing curses in the air.

A quick check shows it's just a superficial scarp, whatsoever, the man still insists the he should be left to rest for a while so he can recover

You slap him Behind the head rather forcefully, throwing him somewhat off balance "You think this is some kind of game?!" You roar at the man, making everyone flinch a little "Because I have no time for them!"

The crowd looks at you with half scared looks, you decide to compensate your outburst by getting the man up from the floor

"Get on the cart, rest and heal your scrape, for it is nothing more than just that" You scoff at the man as you lift him up and set him on the cart, spiting on the floor to show your anger at the man

>13 days of supplies remaining

7 hours later of a slow walk pace and the scouts are nowhere to be seen, Harold voices his concern while two wives start to frantically ask where their husbands are, almost shouting at you to stop the group and wait for them. Due to the small size of the group, their worries can be heard by everyone and the morale quickly starts to drain

"set up camp, we don't leave anyone behind" You say as you slow your pace, everyone following suit

You wait for some more hours until 1 scout comes back, his right arm missing and his right eye swollen, tears on his face as he stumbles over his wife

Shrieks cover the camp as the clanmen hide and Harold gets his axe and shield ready, his wife hiding with his kids inside the cart

the wounded scout shouts "Dredge! The dredge are coming!" His coughing distorting his words

"Dredge?! We left them behind, almost 3 days behind!" You say as your eyes widen in worry "how the hell can they get here so fast?!"

"It's a new group! It's small but they're definitely coming towards us! Ten at the least" the man says coughing blood into his wife's clothes, passing out, on her lap, his breathing stopping suddenly, even tough the woman is shaking him violently, you know what happens next.

>-2 Clansmen
>Morale lowered
>You have 22 clansmen in total

You consider your possibilities

>1. Wake up the old man and prepare Harold, have everyone start moving with you in the lead, they can repel some of the dredge

You head towards the cart and shake the old man, waking him up. He looks at you about to slap you in the face until he sees your look of worry

He suddenly gets up and out of the cart, taking his axe and bow and arrow once he hits the mud "What's the situation?" He knows that if you worry then he should worry

"About 10 dredge, we lost 2 men, Harold is ready to fight" You say as you walk with him towards Harold

"We might pull it off, take the rest an-"

"And move forward, yes, I'll take lead as you take them on" You already knew what he was going to say no point in losing time letting him talk

Old man eyes you before smiling "I'm not going to die here and you know it" He knows you well, your expressions are pretty much an open book to him

You just nod to him before shouting to the rest of the group "Okay people we're leaving! Harold! go and talk to the Old man! everyone else, take your things and follow me!"

"Move move!" You shout at the group as you move forward in a brisk pace, everyone following suit

you can see the Old man looking at you in the distance as you start to turn a corner on the road

after 2 or 3 hours of fast walking you're not sure if you're out of sight or not, you know he's hard to kill, but you don't know how hard, You slow your pace and start praying for the best

>12 days of supplies remaining

You sit in the cart as everyone starts setting up tent, it's been 4 or 5 hours since you last saw the old man and Harold, you can see the mercenary's wife being consoled by other clanmen alongside the widow of the former scout, trying to make them pay attention to something else

The waiting seems to itch you, it seems to itch you really hard, even after you stopped about an hour ago...

you take your time to tell the clansmen to be alert at the surrounding area, keeping a calm demeanor all around, and immediately running forward if they see something out of the ordinary. You tell them that you'll be leaving in search of the old man and hope his rickety ass isn't dead

You tell them a lot of things, but by the time you start walking backwards towards the battlefield you start forgetting all of it, beads of sweat start running from your forehead, and your eyes start to water up, your mind goes through all the hardships that you spent with the old man, how he defended you and raised you like a child....

You start to make a grimace of fear, hugging your self in a vain attempt re balance your mind.

>2 hours later

You keep running, breathing heavily as the cold sweat gets mixed with the actual sweat, you were always a fast runner, it helped you get away from the rocks and peebles being thrown at you from the other kids. Up until this day you never felt true tiredness, your face had already turned 2 shades of pale, your brown hair had been drooping in front of your face, blocking somewhat your view, and your greenish robes were horribly dirty from the soil. It is in this state that you see him...

The Old man having his bow in one hand, it's string being pulled by his bloody mouth, on his other arm was Harold, barely standing with his axe sheathed and his shield high, slightly bleeding from his gut, in front of them 3 stoneguard dredge (The ones that where the size of a regular Varl) in front of them, 4 of them in the ground and another 3 dredge of normal human size with their faces on the soil

You honestly don't know what to do

You start shouting at the top of your lungs, Old man turning his head to see you, his jet black beard covered in blood and his unkempt hair filled with mud and leaves

"You faen idiot! what are you thinking?!" He shouts as he drops Harold and start throwing up to 2 arrows a shot, even tough the dredge don't actually fall for the distraction, Old man becomes a pure beast incarnate, taking more than 3 arrows from his quiver and shooting them at the dredge, everytime one of them swung their axes, he would dodge it and swing his own two handed axe himself, all the while cursing you for being such a stupid idiot and how you shouldnt be in places were you could die so easily, going into great lengths about how a small child like you wasnt even able to carry 25 kilos of meat during hunting season.

10 minutes later, the Old man sits on the corpse of one of the massive dredge and sits on it, breathing heavily and almost passing out, he motions you to come over, and you dutifully do. Yet at the second you get close he slaps your face "Told....you...to move forward girl...."He says with a tired and gravely voice "Carry him" he points at Harold "Let's go" he says as he uses your shoulder to get up, almost failing to do so as well

>11 days of supplies

You lead the march as you're headed towards what you think is the middle of high pass.

Your Disciple is in conversation with some of the women, a rare sight for you

A lot of people are tired and it seems the clansmen really need a lot of rest

After a while some tents are set up and you're sleeping comfortably in your own, You can see you Disciple entering and sleeping by your side without a word spoken

>10 days of supplies left
>Harold is has been healed
>Morale is slightly low

You wake up to see most of the clansmen talking between them, the widows sitting alone with their kids, hopelessly trying to smile in the face of adversity

Your Disciple steps from the tent and waves lazily at you "I talked with the women, they said that this was happening because we didn't have a banner"

You never actually thought about the banner, mostly since the whole concept of escaping the village didn't really leave you with a lot of time, having a Banner would unify the group as an actual caravan as well as raise some morale, and who knows? maybe some luck could smile on us if we have it waving on top of the cart. On the other hand, the creation of such a banner would be difficult and could consume some supplies

Your Disciple laughs a little "We don't have gold Old man, are you going senile?" she says tauntingly, turning her head and heading back once again to the group of women, going into the cart for supplies.

>9 days of supplies left

You lay in the same tent as yesterday, feeling some sort of uneasiness for being grounded too long, supplies are now in the single digits and if you don't hunt anything is going to be a bad time.

"Old man!" Your Disciple shouts at you from outside the tent, hoping to get you out of your hibernation

"Am I never going to have a good rest with you lot?!" You shout, semi furious that you haven't woken up on your own for quite a while "I swear to the gods I'll kick each and eve-.....oh"

In front of you lies a quite large blue banner, it's sides marked with white markings, each of them giving a small story of each clansmen, your markings as well as your disciple's markings were sewn with a dirty yellow cloth.

"I took some liberties with yours, missed the time you decided to sp-" Nobody needs to know that girl! you cut her off with violent cough, making her shut up like she planned to shut up anyways, a small smile showing up.

"Anyways, everyone is ready to go and just waiting for your call" You Disciple says, already taking lead, she knew you wanted to get out as soon as you can.

>8 days of supplies left

"For what is this conversation" A Varl clad in armor says as he towers above you, his horns curving somewhat and an eye patch on his face, his face shaven and his red hair tied in a tight knot, a massive 2 handed sword sheathed on his back, clearly he was the leader of the group "We are busy young miss, business trip you see"

"They're part of the caravan now, no point in letting them die to the dredge" You say as you look at the slaves "Tell them this, and say that they are welcomed to the group"

You can see some fighters widening their eyes, their surprise being evident, the Varl while not as surprised, still looks a little bit apprehensive "Hmm....Very well, but they should be set apart from my men....for the upkeep of order"

Order? what exactly happened?

after a massive beating you gave to your disciple for not informing you the fact of the bigass group that decided to join, then the subsequent daily report, you walk outside the caravan, the Varl you were told was Roksild already walking at the front, his yellow banner waving beside yours, his fighters behind his back most of the time.

you see another varl walking amongst the fighets, a massive beard as well as matching blonde hair hitting up to his spine, walking amognst the men like just another soldier

You see the slaves walking more around the back, sticking together, talking in hushed tones and giving everything a second glance, it kinda irks you out

Harold is with his family with the clansmen in the middle, he dosent seem his usual self, not that much joy in his face right now, rather there's more apprehension, in fact most of the original clansmen are more careful to their surroundings, taking looks from behind their backs as well as looking at the fighters

from one of the carts (The fighters brought one with them) emerges your disciple putting some cold water on her black eye "I'm telling you, it's going to be fine, trust me" she seems more annoyed than hurt

>Argue with your disciple for a while
