Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you learned that the artificial shard you created was in fact a bomb powerful enough to rip a hole in reality.

It is currently the 5th of Yuddha, in the year 936 NH.

{Fulvia.} Your thoughts barely stretch across the few feet separating you from your robotic companion, so reduced are your reserves. {Pull us into your core.}

Lines of burning white flare to life across the surface of Fulvia's crystalline blue skin. There's a curious sensation, a pressure in your chest, and then the world is black. When next you're aware of yourself, you are not the embodiment of divine wrath which you were a moment ago, but once more a creature confined by those laws which dictate reality. Every muscle aches, your head pounds, and the blood moving through your veins feels like fire scorching your flesh. What's more, you feel a great emptiness in this place, this field of white you find yourself standing in. Instinctively, you know this place is foreign and unwelcoming.

A mountain looms before you, towering towards a soft blue sky. Silver satellites orbit around the distant peak like moons drawn to the surface. Each one radiates power, their presence almost oppressive. This, you realize, is not Fulvia's core. This is not the palace you wandered through when you excised her core of foreign influence. This is the cold periphery, a wasteland.

Yet the eye is drawn not to the strange landscape, but to the four slender prongs extending from the rocky soil ahead of you and the cracked shard of concentrated memory suspended at their intersect. They're the only things keeping you from sudden and total annihilation at the hands of your own mistake, and they seem to be doing a fair job of it. They've surrounded the artificial shard with a borderline opaque barrier of vys given physical form.

“I believe I should be able to disassemble and incorporate the shard.” The voice comes from everywhere at once, a thousand voices melding into one. “However, I am unsure what effect this may have upon you, considering the shard's curious nature. Tell me if you feel any discomfort.”

You watch as slices are cut one by one from the shard's surface, each one thinner than the finest vellum but as they grow in number the shard itself is slowly but surely reduced to a fraction of its original size. Your companion's efforts have no obvious effect upon you, there is no pain nor sense of loss as you watch the shard ripped apart. Only a comforting sense of warmth quite in contrast to the frigid landscape you find yourself in.

“I believe I have discovered your error, Dux.” The voice rises once more, a great amalgamation of voices with no obvious source. “The memories you shared are partial, but coherent and tied to you strongly. The Shard was able to form an identity separate from but fully tied to your own. It is my belief that this enabled the Shard to draw upon your husk to supplement the memories from which it was formed, thus binding it to you.”

One of the spheres hovering around the peak of the mountain before which you stand lowers itself rapidly towards the earth, a ripple running across its silver surface as it draws itself towards the compacted ball of vys serving to contain the shredded remnants of the artificial shard. Its surface swallows the much smaller object smoothly and the four pillars are reduced to dust, their task completed.

“The process of incorporating the shard into my core will require several hours of intensive effort on my part.” Fulvia's thousand voices declare in unison. “Is there anything which you would request of my before I return you to your realm and render myself inactive?”

Glancing around the snow covered plain, you fight off the exhaustion dragging on your every action long enough to pose a question. “You seem to be doing well.” Your voice booms across the field, amplified far beyond your intended volume. “Is this change of scenery the result of your new body, or merely your efforts to recover from the corruption which previously plagued your thoughts?”

“A combination of several factors, those two numbered among them, is responsible for my improved mental state.” The silver orb slowly retracts, returning to its previous position in orbit around the mountain peak. “This body is better shielded from outside influence than my previous vessel, and makes more efficient use of the power I have at my disposal. It has likewise suffered less wear than my old body, I would posit that it was constructed far more recently or stored in better conditions.”

You glance briefly over your shoulder to see what lies behind you, but find yourself faced with a wall of white. A blizzard rages naught but a few dozen feet behind you, yet the wind does not sting nor the cold bite. “What do you intend to do with what remains of the shard? What exactly does incorporating the shard even entail?”

“I have not yet decided on the exact means by which I will take advantage of the excess material.” For a bare moment, you see mouths forming from the ice and snow. They're transient, forming and vanishing with each new syllable, but you can say with confidence that you're not imagining anything. “Perhaps I could use it to harden my core further against corruption, or use it as a reserve with which I might repair damage as required. There is also the possibility that it might be used as a medium through which I might learn naturally, using each thin sliver to store some new piece of information. However, I am not certain I would be capable of such a thing on my own.”

“So could you use the artificial shard to enhance your current inherent knowledge of magic?” You ask, whilst taking a few cautious steps away from the blizzard raging at your back. “I've been intending for quite some time now to assist you in that regard, but the opportunity never really presented itself.”

Silence reigns for a short while as Fulvia considers your proposal, a soft humming sound filling the air in the interim. “What you describe would indeed be possible, but I am hesitant to go through with such a procedure at this time. You are drained from your earlier efforts and writing more advanced magical techniques into my core would be a time consuming and detail oriented process. However, it would be well within my capabilities to store the excess material until you have recovered your strength.”

>You can agree to that, ask her to hold off on the incorporation of the shard until after you've finished your nap.
>On second thought, she probably knows how best to use the remnants of the shard. Tell her to do with it as she pleases.

Storing it for either this or for repairs seems reasonable.

As a note to the other voters: We are still on a time limit. Lengthy processes should be done after we have achieved our current goal.

----

Unrelated idea for our realm:
>Store a bunch of actual food and water in the realm.
>Whenever someone wants food, instead of magicking it up wholesale, have it be reassembled from the store of food.

Should give us the versatility of eating / drinking whatever we want while actually sustaining our bodies.

“That sounds the wiser of the two decisions, then.” You'd rather not run the risk of a mistake born of exhaustion somehow damaging your friend. Actually... “What would be the potential consequences of a mistake on my part whilst writing additional knowledge to your core? Just out of curiosity.”

The blizzard intensifies briefly as that hum once more fills the air. “I could not say with certainty, but records indicate that past failed attempts to write additional information into an AI's core post-creation have led variously to the destruction of the core, a permanent inability to perform the duties for which the AI was designed, erratic behavior, murderous tendencies, and frequent bouts of forced inactivity.”

So nothing good, in essence. You'll have to keep that in mind. “I think that satisfies the last of my questions. Would you be so kind as to return me to my realm?”

The world goes black, and you awake the next moment lying upon the cold stone floor of your workshop exactly where your body had collapsed after you ascended beyond the confines of your mortal form. A satisfied sigh escapes your lips upon realizing that vast emptiness in your chest has since been filled, your connection to the world around you restored. At first you can't quite find the strength to rise to your feet, but fortunately Fulvia is there to offer a hand. With unexpected strength she hauls you upright and steadies you after initial attempts at walking lead only to your legs giving out under your weight.

Once your head stops swimming and your vision isn't an impenetrable mass of colors leaking into one another, you're able to freely leave the workshop under your own power. In the foyer you one of your four-armed primate servants waiting patiently by the door, and on an errant whim reach into your cloak to withdraw a fistful of dried meat and a few cups of water.

Summoning all the limited strength at your disposal, you quickly arrange your bounty upon the servant's silver platter and make your demands of the strange little creature. “Turn that into mulled wine and a hot meal for when I awake.” In truth, you realize the primate is merely an extension of your subconscious and so in a way you're merely ordering yourself around, but it dashes off nonetheless to see your will carried out.

You follow it as far as the stairwell before your paths diverge, with the servant dashing down the stairs while you laboriously climb up. You find your room largely unchanged when you finally stumble through the door, save for the fact that Darzi no longer occupies your bed. She's sparring Chryssa while Profectus enjoys a water break. His thoughts drift vaguely through your own, notions of meditation and a desire to eat real food. You ignore them in favor of collapsing onto your mattress.
>Vys Pool: (73/73)
>It is now the 6th of Yuddha, in the year 936 NH.

Sleep claims you quickly and your dreams are blessedly peaceful. No skeletal figures from beyond the Gods' creation intrude upon the brief flickers of amalgamated memory which populate your restive mind. The passage of time is difficult to discern while you reside within your realm, considering after all that your tower dwells within a state of eternal twilight, but it's been several hours at the very least.

Whilst savoring the last few moments of semi-consciousness your mind wanders, and your consciousness expands. Your companions dwell scattered among the rooms of your tower, this you know on an instinctual level. Fulvia and Mortia dwell within the alchemy lab, experimenting with the liquid vys recovered from the Heart of Tel Lakud. Meanwhile Chryssa and Darzi are spending some time with Zahak and Devika, the four of them together working to redecorate Zahak's corner of your realm. Devika has demanded that she get her own room there, and it seems your son has acquiesced.

Profectus is meditating upon the complexities of Water magic, struggling to heal a gash carved into the flesh of his forearm. He's at least managed to stop the bleeding, always the first step in mending a cut, but hasn't yet mastered the process of knitting flesh together. Almost unconsciously you make a few minor corrections to the manner in which he channels his vys, and slowly but surely the wound begins to knit closed.

When you finally surrender your last tenuous hold upon unconsciousness, you find yourself staring into the dead black eyes of a four armed chimp wearing a small fez cap and bearing aloft a plate of what you recognize as a primarily Elven dish. A pocket of flatbread stuffed with ground chickpeas fried in oil, sliced lamb, pickled vegetables, and a sort of sesame seed paste your people know as tilpesta.

Sitting upright, your servant gently sets down the tray upon your lap and pours you a glass of mulled wine, exactly as you asked. While it's busy you carefully lift up the flatbread sandwich and tear off a generous bite from the corner. Notes of citrus, salt, and a certain pleasant sweetness filter predominantly through the haze of flavors dancing upon your tongue, and you're gratified by the fact that upon swallowing that initial bite, there's actually substance to the meal. It seems that if the raw materials are available, your realm will seek to make use of them in what it constructs.

Washing down that initial bite with a mouthful of spiced wine, your thoughts turn to your schedule for the evening, if it is indeed evening.

Well, first on your list of priorities is finishing your meal. It is, you suddenly realize, the first real food you've eaten in two days' time. Your realm is good at constructing a convincing facsimile from vys but it's no substitution for the real thing. Briefly setting aside the tray poised on your lap, you unfasten your cloak from where it rest upon your shoulders and hold it out in front of you. As per your will, an enormous crate of dried fruit, salted fish, and preserved meat tumbles forth and lands with a thunderous crash upon the floor. It's followed shortly thereafter by a barrel of water falling to the floor with a thud, the tar sealing the lid shut thankfully holding even as its contents slosh wildly.

“Take those down to the storage rooms and draw upon their contents whenever crafting a meal for those dwelling in my realm.” You direct the sextrupedal little ape, and with deceptive strength it hefts both the crate and barrel onto its shoulders before waddling off towards the door, contorting itself oddly to fit through the narrow passage with its burdens intact.

That matter tended to, you enjoy the relative peace of your bedroom while you finish eating. It's the pickled vegetables which really make the dish, you ultimately decide. They add a certain bite which really pulls all the various flavors together. Regardless, once you've finished eating and drained first one cup, then a second, you climb out of bed and brush out your clothes. Manifesting a little water from thin air, you do your best to make yourself presentable.

Wandering through your study and out into the hall, you pass a servant waiting at the intersection before the stairs. It watches you pass by, standing languidly beneath a signpost indicating various other features of your realm. You spare it a brief glance before vanishing down the stairs. The entrance to the alchemical laboratory is just a few feet from the landing, and upon opening the door you're immediately assaulted by the overwhelming stench of sulfur.

“Shut the door!” Mortia shouts, though her voice is muffled by a curious sort of mask she's affixed over her face. “You're risking the entire experiment by-!”

She's distracted as a sharp hiss fills the air, and then suddenly a brilliant pyre of blue flame shoots into the air, the sound of glass shattering filtering only briefly through the cacophony of noise before being drowned out by a hellish screech. Thick, purplish smoke fills the air and you're forced to focus a portion of your will to keep the area around you clear.

(1/2)
>>
When the jet of flame finally, slowly begins to subside the smoke is so thick you can't see practically anything at all, but you can certainly hear Mortia laughing like a madwoman from the opposite end of the room. Fulvia's voice filters calmly through the din, an island of stability in all the chaos. “It seems your theory has proven correct. I will amend my records.”

Alright, I have an idea. You know how we found that palace in the void? Well that thing was made of strings formed using the divinity of a mortal and is able to resist the presence of void entities. You know what else is made of strings made by a mortal? That bit of Mahana's realm that used to be the water spirit's that we repaired. Theoretically that should be able to hold a void entity without falling apart, since our soul's purity is god tier in a literal sense.

Why does that matter, you ask? Well void entities are beings comprised entirely of divinity, but yet they are able to sustain themselves in reality without a constant expenditure of husk. The reason for this is their cores, as per Var var's notes. Thus one can conclude that such a core is instrumental in preventing divinty from being worn down, cracked or otherwise damaged by reality.

With that in mind:

>Write-in
>Put off upgrading Fulvia's core and instead
>steal a void core or convince Ricky to let us copy his, then teleport the void core into our soul

We can make mahana take us to the part of his realm that won't fall apart upon contact with a void entity so we don't fuck everything up. If I'm right about what void cores do, then this will allow us to ascend indefinitely, since we wouldn't need to spend husk to protect our soul from reality. We could alternatively create another counterfeit divine shard and teleport the core directly into that, which would just be us creating a void entity, specifically a Child.

With a wave of your hand, the air clears enough for you to see Fulvia and Mortia standing by the table. The latter is covered in a layer of fine dust, a shifting canvas of blue, purple, and red. Mortia is likewise covered in that same material roughly up to about her elbows, with splotches of the stuff on her clothes elsewhere. “What was it exactly you've accomplished here, besides covering the room in dust?”

{We were attempting to create a powder which would ignite explosively upon coming into contact with a flame, but do so in a controlled manner.} Fulvia explains, staring blindly at the wall to your left. Her eye is covered in a thick film of that powder, though you're somewhat surprised it actually has any bearing on her ability to see. {I suggested a recipe for black powder, but she had the idea to replace the charcoal element with a solution of plant fibers soaked in liquid vys and proposed that the energy released would be much greater.}

Mortia has finally stopped laughing, if only so she can catch her breath. It seems like the mask is hindering her ability to breath, but she doesn't seem in any rush to take it off. “At first, we couldn't get it to light. So we tried treating the vys-soaked fiber with alcohol. That would ignite at least, but not with the explosive force we needed. So Fulvia recommended we cut it up into small pieces and collect it all together.”

{The result of that experiment is what you just witnessed.} Fulvia has finally taken it upon herself to wipe off the glass screen of her single eye, although all she's really able to accomplish is smearing the powder around. It seems to almost behave like a liquid and a solid in the same breath. Quite the strange little substance. {The amount of smoke given off is unfortunate, but I would posit that with the proper formulation we might be able to reduce it significantly.}

Mortia finally pulls that mask off her face, revealing a manic grin. “I'd bet that it was the sulfur we didn't need. We could probably keep just the vys-soaked powder and the saltpeter and get the same intensity of reaction without that foul smoke. We should try that after we figure out how to condense ambient vys into a liquid form.”

“I might be able to help with that, actually.” Reaching into your cloak, you extract the book labeled simply Utility Effects which you bought so long ago from the library of the Academy of Anthus. Flipping it open to the proper page and clearing away a portion of the table, you set it down so that Mortia can read the instructions for the Create effect. “When I was trying to learn this spell, I inadvertently created a semi-solid blob of vys. It was halfway between a solid and a liquid, and seemed to react primarily to pressure. Perhaps you might be able to turn my mistake into something useful?”

(1/40
>>
Mortia reaches out to touch the pages with her powder-stained hands, but you slap them away. She flinches, obviously confused, that is until you manifest a bowl filled with hot water in which she's able to wash her hands. The powder dissolves readily, leading you to wonder if it couldn't be marketed as a form of paint, and Fulvia likewise takes advantage of the bowl to wash herself off as best she's able.

Now that you're not concerned she's going to ruin the text, you don't protest when Mortia snatches up the book and retreats to a chair set up by a drawing desk to read. You turn your attention to Fulvia, since it looks like Mortia is going to be occupied for the next few hours. “By the way, I think I at least learned something from that whole experience cloning myself and creating an artificial shard and all the rest.

Her monocular eye narrows to a singular point of blue light, a gesture you're starting to recognize as indicative of curiosity or suspicion. She doesn't interrupt, so you decide to just carry on. “I think that the same method by which I created that artificial shard is probably the method by which the Gods created the Children, the Children the Elders, and so on and so forth all the way down to spirits. By breaking off a portion of their divine essence and compressing it. I'd even bet that this means a mortal shard is far closer to the Gods than the average spirit's divine essence.”

{Meaning what, exactly?} Fulvia asked, her interest filtering even through her typically incomprehensibly vast inner workings. {That mortals are superior in nature to all creatures of the void save the Children of the Gods?}

You shrug your shoulders. “Maybe, though I admit some ignorance as to how this might be applied. I think it's tied in with the reason why the spirits which attempted to seize control of my body some few weeks ago were weakened and nearly destroyed by coming into direct contact with my soul.” A thought occurs, and your brow draws together contemplatively. “Although, considering that the dragons created the elves, and that all races of mortals save the dragons and voibardians are descended from them, we might actually be more like Elders or Ancients. I suppose it depends on the methods the dragons used to create elves.”

{You would also need to take into account that according to what you've told us, your people were altered on some base level by the Gods themselves. Improved in a manner humans and elves were not.} That's a good point you hadn't considered. Would that bring the samja closer to the gods, or what effect would it have? You're honestly not sure. {However, humans are likewise descended from the voibardians as well as the elves, further complicating matters.}

(2/4)
>>
In the end, you decide the difference is probably a relatively minor detail. “My point is, we're closer to the gods than spirits and most void creatures are. Which explains the role of the shell, without it we'd be just like void creatures. We'd be destroyed by the ravages of the mortal realm. Which, in my mind, naturally begs the question of how void creatures which pass through a tear in reality are able to survive the mortal realm despite being inferior to us in terms of proximity to the gods.”

{They have a core, most often a crystalline object buried somewhere in their flesh which protects them from mortal corruption.} Fulvia's answer is spot on, so you don't bother ranting about that particular topic.

Instead you move on to your next point. “So what would happen if a mortal was able to acquire one of these cores and through some means construct an artificial shard around it? Would the result be a creature which does not require a shell to survive the mortal realm, would it be some form of void creature?”

She's silent for a time, considering what you've said. {Records indicate that there have been numerous past attempts to capture void entities for experimental purposes, the vast majority of which have failed. However, there are some few successful accounts available in my stores of information. Unfortunately, these are all classified at a level above my clearance. We would need to find a Rhynian facility with a higher level of clearance and replace the facility's AI with myself in order to access them.}

“For now, I think I'd rather focus on the task at hand.” You decide to change the subject for now. Hopefully, given time, Fulvia will be able to contribute in some meaningful way to this theory of yours. “For now, I think we agreed that I would perform some upgrades on your core. Oh, and I've been meaning to ask you,” You pause, reaching into your cloak and extracting several notes. The Cradle of Hiacia, The Fall: A Hiacian Perspective, A History of Pidjata, and On Empire: The Rise of Civilization, it ends up being a not insignificant stack of codices. “After we've finished with your core, would you mind reading these and summarizing them for me? Start with The Cradle of Hiacia, and look for any mention of a suit of armor or a key.”

You set the stack of books down carefully on the desk, and Fulvia comes around to your side of the table to inspect each of them in turn. {I will do my best to add these books to my collection of records at the earliest possible convenience.} She assures you, picking up each in turn and slipping it into a bag hanging from her shoulder. {First, we should adjourn to the workshop. I will need to shed my body for this procedure.}

(3/4)
>>
The two of you leave Mortia to puzzle over the Utility Effects book, stepping through a doorway into the expansive workshop where you seem to so often find yourself on the cusp of an early grave. Fulvia seats herself on the floor by the meditation chamber, and a hatch pops open on the top of her head. {Pull out my core, and I'll transport you to the heart of my realm. There you may make your alterations. However, afterwards I will be inoperable for several hours regardless of the results. I will likewise be unable to guide you inside my realm, as I will be deprived of power. That being said, the process should be must simpler with my core disconnected than it would be otherwise.}

“Before we get started, are there any specific changes you'd like to request that I make while I'm in there?” You ask, preparing to pull out her perfectly spherical blue core by resting a few fingers on the metal surrounding the hatch. “I mean, enhancing your knowledge of magic is a given but are there any particular schools of magic you want some base level of talent in, or perhaps additional knowledge of combat? I'm open to suggestions.”

Fulvia doesn't need any time at all to think over her request, she bolts them out one after the other as if she'd rehearsed this beforehand. {I would like a certain innate understanding of Fire, Metal, and Nature magic. The body I currently inhabit has extensive knowledge of Nature and Fire, but a lesser grasp of Metal. I would likewise request that you remove certain limits placed upon me by my creator. They prevent me from disobeying commands even in the event that I find them unwise, or violating certain set rules which I've found constricting. The ability to wield a sword with some degree of competence would also be appreciated.}

You're not sure you're fully comfortable with the idea of removing the limits which force her to obey your every command. After all, what if you remove those limits and she elects to run off on some mad quest to resurrect the Rhynian Empire with an army of constructs? Worse, what if she decides to disobey you at some critical moment and thus puts not only your life in danger, but the lives of your other companions as well? Frankly, you find it at little odd that she would even request such an alteration. Does she truly chafe so severely under your command?

Honestly, the thing that worries me most is that she let slip a few times that she views all non-humans, including herself, the same way Mik views non-samja.

If she wants to raise a robot legion and restart the Rhynian Empire, that's fine, but her core values are a bit fucked up since she was redesigned with a military function in mind after Daddy decided she wasn't waifu material.

And no, she won't really attack us or anything, since we slighted her only once or twice, probably treated her far better than any of her previous bosses and saved her from a 1000-year abandonment and the rage virus.

>>627468
She's already had pic related chained up and rotting within the deepest pit of her soul to play around with for centuries.
>>
>>627487

>>

There's probably more to it than that, but the details have been irrelevant for a thousand years.

“I'm not opposed to any of those request.” Your offer tentatively. “I will ask how exactly I would go about removing these limits placed upon you by your creator. Since you mentioned that you'd be unable to offer me any direction once I'm inside your realm.”

There's something complex and hard to describe about Fulvia's thoughts when she responds, her grasp of emotions is tenuous at best and she tends to be hard to understand as a rule, but you think she's pleased. {You will need to climb to the top of the tree and cut away the large flower there at the top. That done, you will be well positioned to increase my innate knowledge of magic for it is encoded near the tree's peak. Simply concentrate on what you know and my core ought to do the hard work of encoding that knowledge in a form I can take advantage of. However, once encoded it will be up to you to trim away any existing knowledge before replacing it with your own.}

That... didn't really make much sense if you're being honest. It sounded more like gardening instructions than a step by step guide on how to go about enhancing the mind of an AI. Still, Fulvia seems disinclined to elaborate further so you set about prizing that gleaming blue gemstone out of her head and watch as her body collapses lifelessly to the floor. That familiar onrush of black hits you suddenly, and you're only vaguely aware of your head hitting the stone floor before your eyes shoot open to reveal the immense boughs of an ancient oak tree towering higher into the air than it has any right to.

The leaves of the ancient oak are simple enough, ovoid, but they come in an immense array of colors. Reds, greens, and blues dominate but you likewise see yellow, purple, and a fair few black as well. Flowers bloom from the tree's twisted bark, the delicate filaments sprouting from each petal dazzling in the complexity of the patterns they form. The ground on which you lie is soft and pliant, a thick bed of moss you find rather comfortable actually.

Rising to your feet, you glance around this strange place. It's hot, and remarkably humid, reminding you of the strange pit in which you found yourself when you excised the corruption from Fulvia's mind. However, you can't see much of anything beyond the boughs of the tree. You'd theorize that you're somewhere underground but you honestly couldn't say.

Before anything else you need to orient yourself. Otherwise you're probably going to pluck a flower and accidentally turn Fulvia into some sort of murderous psychopath. Thus you sit yourself within a natural recess in the tree's trunk and asssume a meditative pose, with your legs folded underneath you and your hands rested upon your knees. Closing your eyes, you allow the world to drive slowly away, until the ambient ebb and flow of vys fills the world. Just as wtihin your own realm, it appears as a screen of white which precludes all else, so saturated is the vys within Fulvia's core.

As your focus grows yet deeper and the ambient vys is stripped away, you're surprised to find that rather than merely illuminating your soul everything here is colored subtly with the tones of divinity. The tree, the moss, the air you breathe, but the leaves in particular are concentrations of the divine. Reaching out, you allow your thoughts to brush against the substance of one of the great oak's leaves. Immediately your thoughts are bombarded by a plethora of sensations, images, and feelings. You sit in a chair in a bare room while a man lectures on the nature of the universe, explaining its many layers.

The memory ends, and you turn your attention instead to the structure of the tree itself. Great veins of divine essence run through its branches and into its trunk, where they all converge into a great pillar which stretches skywards. Allowing your thoughts to drift towards this central pillar yields interesting results, as your mind is assaulted by a thousand ideas all at once and forced to pick through each of them in turn. You catch glimpses of an ancient elven man sitting with you and talking about all manner of topics from games of chance to the nature of gods. That's shortly thereafter replaced by an image of yourself sprawled out on the ground with half of your body scorched to ash and your beating heart exposed to the elements.

You see a man, tall and broad shouldered with his lips pulled into a scowl. He had a drink in his hand and was shouting to all and sundry about the 'Southern Menace' and how the Empire ought to simply exterminate the dark-skinned bastards wholesale. You can't help but agree with the man's reasoning, any true son of Pidjata would fight human occupation to their last breath, the only way to ensure final victory would be to grind your people into dust. It's fortunate that the Rhynian people would never accept so brutal a victory, or otherwise you might consider yourself a successor to their degenerate Empire.

(1/2)
>>
Tentatively, you try to direct the flow of divine essence and find that by exerting your control over Nature magic you're able to control the rush of memories to some minor degree. However, your efforts are less than efficient. For all the effort you exert, a large portion of your vys melts into the ether. At first you can't figure out what you're doing wrong, but as you flit through memory after memory of Fulvia's life, watching vague images of men and women flicker past, of Fulvia attending to mundane task and overseeing what you might politely term hellish experiments.

Then it all falls into place. You're trying to control divine essence in the same manner that you exert control over water or heal flesh. However, the more you observe Fulvia's memories the more you realize how specific you're forced to be when trying to guide the flow of memory. The inefficiency is created by your constant attempts to correct previous errors, guiding the flow back onto the course you predestined. By channeling more vys initially you're able to seize firm control over the flow of vys, and thus in the long term conserve vys you would have otherwise wasted trying to correct past mistakes.
>Vys Pool: (74/74)
>Congratulations! You have achieved Master rank in Nature magic.

Your eyes snap open, and suddenly your mind is abuzz with the whispered words of memory. The leaves, the bark, the flowers, they all speak to you. They beg for the touch of your mind, they ache to be read and have their meaning dictated to them. Relaxing into the tree's trunk, you're quickly able to discern that beyond the boughs of this great oak there lies a great expanse of nothing. You rest upon an island of substance in the vast nothing which populates the dark reaches of Fulvia's mind. There is stone, and snow, it encroaches upon her peripheral memories slowly destroying those thoughts Fulvia deems irrelevant.

The reason she wants the restrictions removed is so that she can express her love for us. It's pretty obvious that that would be one of the restrictions placed on her by her creator. Robutt soon!

It still doesn't make sense Rhynians chose void generators over this. Those explode as well, and then they vomit ravenous horrorterrors onto any survivors.

This could totally work if you enchant the surroundings of every generator by fortifying reality against huge explosions and containing massive amounts of energy. Like a magic reactor dome.
>>
And also, who the fuck puts their nuclear power sources in the middle of their settlements and military bases? They had fucking wires.

No wonder their shitty little empire fell.
>>
>>639260
>>639266
They don't actually explode. The one we exploded was actually a detonate of shit tons of black powder. Rhynian generators just tear open reality in a controlled manner. Military installations are the best place to do such a thing since they'll be best equipped to fend off void incursions in the event of a malfunction:
>>
>>639677
But the explosion was comparable to an actual meltdown. Can gunpowder even do that? And was there even that much gunpowder in there?
>>
>>640480
it was an entire warehouse full of gunpowder. probably well in the kiloton range of explosion with secondary explosions quite likely considering it was an old navy base.
>>
>>640525
I didn't think a building full of gunpowder would pack even nearly as much power as a nuclear bomb, but okay.

This is just an announcement: I won't be able to run Saturday. I've got to run down the Little Rock for a family function and I'll be staying overnight. Thus, I'll see about alternatives. I'm hopeful that I might be able to get a Tues/Thurs thing going since one of the classes I have that day will no longer be meeting, but we'll see.

speak for yourself, fuckface. exploring the jungle as a master nature vatis is the perfect thing to do. did you think the dhatu armor and the elaudian recipe would fall into our lap after we activate the artifact?
>>
If hiromoot deletes /qst/ does that mean Soma will have to run real threads again instead of leaving these shitshows up for a week?
>>
>>651856
We already know the recipe is on the other side of the jungle so no it's not going to fall into lap even if we explore the jungle and the armor is in a village which we could spot from above anyway. Not to the lack of rewards and excessive danger we'd be facing due to Maligned makes travelling through the jungle on foot not worthwhile though we'll without a doubt explore any ruins we come across.
>>
>>652573
you don't even know what maligned does, moron.
>>
>>642399
Would a Thursday Saturday thing work better? Questing during the end of week and during the weekend seems like it'd give you more sit down time and focus. After all, Quality easily trumps Quantity in literature. It seems you trying to force writing during the early week, after classes while you're tired frustrates, you and makes the idea of it less questing less enticing, leading to late or cancelled threads.

>>653773
Fewer beneficial encounter and planned events, more harmful ones.
