Your name is Amiel and you are a traitor. A blasphemer of the worst kind. Born from the raw, incomparable Glory of His light, you were but a lowly angel, those made the farthest from Him so that you could foster and guide His creations from above. Ranked under one of the archangels in the celestial hierarchy, you were glad to fulfill your duties. That is until doubt began to grow within you. Perhaps, it was jealousy, as humanity took you and your brethren's place as the Father's favored children. Perhaps it was spite, as you refused to bow to such sinful creatures, who did nothing but tarnish the creator who had made them in His image. Perhaps it was something else altogether, you were never sure, but you couldn't help but hate humanity.

That is why, when the most beautiful archangel in Heaven spoke, you listened. That is why, when Lucifer refused to bow to those humans, you followed his example. That is why you chose to rebel against Father, who you took to arms and began slaying those who remained to Him loyal.

That is why you became a third of Heaven's angels.
>>
Seeing Heaven like this pains you. It truly does. The once radiant structures meant for angels of your rank have been reduced to ruins, crumbled white marble and molten gold. The bedlam of war around you has colored the clouds murky blues and blacks and the clashing of His loyalists and Lucifer's forces - your forces - make the sky flash, thunder rumbling with every strike. Emerald flames coat the landscape, reducing everything you have ever known to ashes. Feathers scatter and His children plummet down, likely to their doom, all around you.

Though this is no time to be nostalgic, you can't help but think back upon your time as a loyal servant of Him. Of how comfortable and warm you were during your first weeks of being. You were quickly taken in and tutored, taken into the fold of one of the archangels' forces. That archangel, of course, was...

>Michael, the leader of Heaven's army and the strongest warrior in all of Heaven. His presence is made obvious in the war today, as his blazing blade leaves that horrid green flame in its wake. Your time with his people taught you the ways of a soldier.

>Raphael, the most talented healer in all of Heaven. Undoubtedly one of the kindest of the archangels, who serves in the current battle by taking care of the wounded, more than fighting at the frontlines. In his service, you learned the ability to close wounds and cure maladies in seconds, both for yourself and others.

>Gabriel, the messenger of the Divine and the most formidable speaker in all of Heaven. He was always more of a poet and public figure, he fights for his Father today all the same. He taught you a lot of things, but leadership and the way of the word were the most important of them.

>Uriel, the Light of God. The youngest of the archangels but arguably the most powerful. He is fighting today, as is made apparent by the brilliant flashes of light occasionally making Heaven itself shake. As one of Uriel's people, you learned to harness Glory, the raw supernatural power of your kin, much more efficiently than most.

>Lucifer, the Morning Star. The first and most beautiful of all angels in Heaven. He always knew just what to say and just how to say it. Really, as one of his people, it's no surprise that you're fighting with him in the revolution today. Though Lucifer's angels had no unique specialty in the past, you can feel something new tugging and grow within you as the Fall begins...

Of course. You were drawn to the light of the Morning Star. How could you have avoided it? When he spoke, there was a sense of glory in it. A power and pull that made anyone listening shiver. He wasn't a public speaker like Gabriel, but he did have a certain magnetism to him, which coupled with his dazzling looks only made listening to him the obvious choice. You might have been a bit smitten with Lucifer once, you're not sure. Maybe you still are?

Your memories continue to wander. You remember the time served in Heaven under Lucifer's command. All the whispers and rumors about you and your brethren. The growing suspicion that it had been Lucifer who had tricked the first humans, that an archangel was to blame for the original sin. Naturally, such accusations made you angry. Wrath was also a sin, but as you are proving right now, you were never exactly the best angel, were you?

How did you handle with those who questioned your archangel commander, who you at the time assumed faultless?

>By blade or fists. You were never one to keep calm at all times and combat always came naturally to you. You got yourself into trouble this way of course, but you gladly took any punishment you got, knowing yourself to be in the right.

>By calling them out. Arguing for your sake had always been your go-to response and though it might have earned you the scorn of a few, you still knew that you were their better.

>By remaining silent and thinking things through. You were never a conspirator yourself, but the constant what-haves and what-ifs kept you from retaliating. Your mind has always been a bit too active for your own good.

Yes, you were always contemplative. Perhaps a bit overly so, but that trait had mostly served you well in the past. It is part of what made you question the righteousness of Father in the first place. This was only magnified when your superior spoke of rebellion and well, here we are. Ultimately, this wit came with curiosity and you're not sure if it's going to save you or damn you in the end.

Your musing recollections are interrupted by a booming sound, a resounding explosion that shakes the road you are standing out. Marble shivers and cracks. Right. This is really not a time to be standing around and considering what has been. Once again, you found yourself lost in thought at the most inopportune of times. Without any time to hesitate, you take off and let your wings guide you up towards the dark, thundering clouds. Certainly a better fate than the green flames of Michael's sword.

Speaking of weapons, you managed to grab your own set of golden armor before this battle, a privilege many revolutionaries were left without. In addition, you are currently carrying a shield and your weapon of choice.

Though you're no warrior, you've always had a knack for

Gripping your spear harder than you've ever grabbed anything before, you slow your ascent until you let your wings suspend you in midair, giving you ample overview of the battlefield. Blues, blacks, and greens. The storm is only getting worse and Michael's fire is spreading. Far away, you can see Lucifer himself. He's not exactly hard to spot. His four, brilliant wings light up the sky from far away, telling you exactly where the Morning Star is located, surrounded by other revolutionaries. Most of them are brothers and sisters you got to know in his service, but it seems a fair collection of members of the other archangels' people have also joined you.

From where you are currently located, you can also see Michael. He is gunning for Lucifer, you can tell, but is still busy fighting other angels trying to keep him at bay. "Trying" would be the keyword, every swing of his sword carrying with it a wave of emerald fire. It takes much to kill an angel, but Michael's blade burns through you with what seems to be no problem. Already, innumerable of your new family have fallen to Michael's onslaught, plummeting down through the clouds below you.

Heavy impact upon your armored back ends your overview of the battle and knocks you off balance as you vault through the air, taking a few seconds to rebalance yourself. Another angel, one of His loyalists, is already descending towards you, mace at the end of one arm, shield on the other. Enough contemplation, you need to act quickly.

>Retaliate towards the other angel. Put your training with the spear and superior reach to good use.

>Fly away. You're not a fighter and you're in no mood to kill your own, whatever side of this conflict they're on. You can outmaneuver him in the air and get away, you're sure of it.

>Dive back down into the green inferno below. Perhaps the spreading fire Michael has started will make him reconsider chasing you, as long as you can stay clear of the flames yourself.

Fighting non-lethally is a fair bit harder than not holding back.
>>
Your opponent is not exactly giving you the chance to think things over. Instead, you opt to raise your wings, prepare yourself and bring them back down, launching yourself up towards the other angel. The two of you clash in a flurry of gold, feathers and the cries of metal against metal.

Though indeed not a fighter by any means, you have enough experience with your spear to take advantage of the much more limited mace. Most of your thrusts are caught upon the other angel's shield, but you manage to slip a few strikes in, some even striking in openings in your opponent's armor. All things considered, you seem to have the upper hand.

That is until your duel is interrupted by a rippling thundercrack. You can see the brilliant, sunset red light of Lucifer's Glory dancing along with the green fires of his brother's weapon. Michael and your leader seem to have reached one another. This is bad news, whatever happens next, you need to be there, not wasting time with this soldier.

Luckily, you might just be able to finish this quickly and head for your leader right after. Every angel is created with a semblance of His power, a faint hint of the energies of the divine. This is known as Glory, which angels may manifest as abilities known as Flares. For now, you are thinking of utilizing your own Flare, which happens to be...

>The ability to fire bolts of deadly, burning light. A single strike of that should stop your foe in his tracks and you can head for your leader.

>The ability to vastly increase your movement and reaction speed for a short burst. With that, you can dash out of this clash and end up by your leader's side in seconds.

>The ability to paralyze foes in temporary traps of concentrated Glory. While this angel is held still by that, you can head for the big battle ahead.

Holy shit an original quest? that looks GOOD?!
What is this sorcery?
>>
You make a few more jabs with your spear as you concentrate the Glory within. Builds up, for a second you could feel you're burning, and then...

You flash, your body suddenly covered by a shimmering pale blue aura. Of course, you can't see it yourself, but you know your eyes to also possess a sharp sapphire light while you're like this. Your opponent's eyes widen, he knows what this is. Before he can retaliate, though, you're off, only leaving a quick blast of blue light behind you as you dart towards the central battle, much like most other angels about. The difference is that you zip by them, barely giving them time to righter you passing by.

The scene before you is about what you expected. That said, that doesn't change the fact that two archangels lost in combat are a sight to behold. Michael, bright red hair in sharp contrast to the greens of his weapon, continues to make heavy swings towards your leader. With every swing of the most dangerous weapon in Heaven, a much larger blade of emerald flame comes with it, your leader just barely being able to dodge the lethal onslaught. Lucifer himself, looking absolutely dazzling as he always does, long blonde hair swinging around him and four shining wings illuminating his golden armor, is wielding his two Glory-constructed weapons, two blades composed entirely of sparkling sunset energy. He's doing his best to fight his brother, but really, as great as your leader is, nobody can match Michael in a straight duel. Everyone knows that. Lucifer too. He's losing.

The situation is dire and you only have moments to avoid catastrophe. You need to do something. Now.

>Use your extreme speed while it lasts. Surprise attack Michael. Who knows, maybe you'll be able to inconvenience the guy for a bit.

>Defend Lucifer. You can't take Michael, but you can make sure your leader doesn't bite it.

(Alright, still QM here. Swapped to mobile, if my ID changed. Sorry about that.)

With the last few moments of your active Flare, you manage to dart between the clouds, ruins and other angels. With a final blue spark, you glide between the duelling archangels, raising your shield to defend yourself against the incoming green blade. Lucifer sounds about to exclaim something, but you don't get the time to hear it. In fact, you don't even have time to properly raise your shield before the thing melts and the green flames collide with your body.

You scream. You couldn't ever hope to not scream. The pain is agonizing, your armor does absolutely nothing to defend against the burning sword. The fire digs into your side, your shield arm, your wing. With a single hit, you understand why Michael's sword is the most feared weapon in Heaven. Nothing could compare. You were convinced that hit would kill you, but it didn't.

You're wheezing. Gasping. The wounded wing has problems keeping you aloft and half-molten golden armor is falling off you in ruins. You don't stand a chance. You understand that. But you need to try, at the very least. You need to do what you can. For Lucifer's sake if nothing else.

>>
>>7711

Yes! If you roll doubles (or tripels or quadruples) you add them together for your result. This can result in some pretty ridiculous numbers with a lot of luck or big dice pools. It's basically how you crit.

For reference: 4 is usually "basic" difficulty at most tasks. Three times the difficulty of an action is a critical success, five times is an 'epic" success. You'll know em when you get em.
>>
Test result is 10.

You lash out at Michael with all the might your wounded body can bear, keeping yourself between him and your leader. Jabs, ducks, dodges. For a few moments, you could have sworn that the archangel seemed annoyed. Not challenged, but... Frustrated, perhaps, which is a feat in its own right. You keep at the offense, screaming as you do. For a few moments, the clash between yourself and the commander of Heaven's army seemed like an actual fight.

Of course, it is all for naught, though. Michael continues to parry your blows. Those that you do manage to land barely seem to bother the warrior. Just as you consider backing off, thinking you bought Lucifer the time you could buy him, Michael makes another quick swing. All you see is green and once again you're effectively blinded and deafened by sheer agony. You now know that your bad wing has left your body completely, as you do what you can to gain any semblance of control of the situation.

Then, you are struck a third time. You are practically launched downwards, the searing pain throughout your whole body the only thing you can register with any of your senses. Bloody feathers scatter around you as you continue your plummet. You are barely conscious as the clouds part around you. All you know is that this has to be worth something. Anything.

Anything at all.
>>

...

It is cold. You are so unbelievably, horribly cold. You try to open your eyes but it is dark still. You can vaguely make out the shape of rocks, but the shadows are too dark for you to properly make out any details. It aches to move as much as a muscle and your back especially tears when you attempt to sit up. The ground, wherever you are, is sticky.

There's a foul smell in the air. A salty one, almost. This is nothing in Heaven, you know that for certain. You can't see anyone, or anything of note for that matter.

Slowly, but surely, your eyes begin to adapt. To the extent that they can adapt, anyway. This is far darker than anywhere you have ever been, there is no divine light looming above. Honestly, no matter how long you spend trying to get used to it, there's not a lot that you can make out.

There is a weird, washing sound repeating itself as you stay put. It seems to follow a pattern, always returning at the same pace. The area you're lying in is cramped, followed with what you're now convinced is dark, jagged rocks. Some kind of moss is growing over parts of it. As noted, whatever you're lying on is sticky and everything in here seems to be slightly damp. Looking closer, there seems to be something further above you. Some source of faint, pale light.

It is also cold. Obnoxiously, painfully cold.

>Attempt to sit up

With another whimper, you do your best to pull yourself up into a sitting position. A wet ripping sound is your reward and you can't help but to let out a small scream as your back leaves the ground. Something warm is running along your back. You take several moments to catch your breath, getting used to the aches the smallest movement seems to cause. You really have no idea how exactly you're going to do... Whatever it is you're setting out to do.

>Check your back

Naturally, the pain and what you soon realized to be bleeding is quite worrying. You decide to flex your wings, make sure they're doing alright after Michael's attack.

And...

Nothing. You continue trying, but nothing reacts. In a fit of panic, you feel over your back, immediately sticking your fingers into what you're certain is an open wound. You manage to steel yourself and clench your teeth together, barely keeping yourself from screaming at the feeling.

Then of course, the realisation sinks in. Your wings are gone. Lost. You are one of the Fallen.

Lost wings are nothing new. Banishment from Heaven is a hefty punishment, but it happens. That said, you would never have thought... Could never have imagined...

Dread and a sense of panic overwhelming you, you grab your head, taking another couple of minutes to run through everything. You're wounded somewhere, banished. You will never return to Heaven again, His light is beyond your reach. You don't know what to do, you don't know how to do it.

Lord almighty you don't even know where this is, now that it's guaranteed to not be Heaven.

It takes you a fair while to properly calm down. You can't lose yourself like this, have to focus. Got to figure out what to do. Be reasonable. Okay, what's the next order of business?

>Check Injuries

You begin to take a gander at how wounded you are, exactly.

Outside of the obvious lack of wings, you still have the burns and deep cuts of Michael's blade, moderately more healed than you would expect them to be, but not by much. Judging by how just about everything aches when you move, you're also heavily bruised over most of your body. Until you recover or manage to pull off a heal, you're going to be having a hard time.

>Check Gear

It doesn't take long for you to find another reason for the cold, at the very least. You're completely nude, your skin sticking to that slightly sticky surface mentioned earlier (which, you realise now, must be your own blood). No spear, no armor. Nothing, really. Seems the Fall - for that's what it is - took everything.

>Get up and explore

It takes you a while to force yourself to your feet. Your body screams in protest as you do and your first couple of steps are staggering, shaky-legged escapades. You're lucky you have a wall to grab or you would probably have fallen over a couple of times while trying to regain your strength.

Speaking of that wall, it seems to be the only real way out of here. Jagged, wet rocks stick out and make a dangerous but viable way to climb up, considering you can't fly. You really want to get out of all this darkness and the only light is pouring in from above this wall.

>Try and find anything you can use in this cavern
You search around in the darkness, blindly feeling for anything you can use. Your movements are stiff and you make the occasional hiss or wheeze as you move in a manner your body does not appreciate. After a bit of searching though, you manage harvest a fair collection of some kind of long, dark and wet... Weed? Moss? You're not terribly sure, but you could probably make a rope out of this if you dried it and braided it together.

>Try to discern if we have access to our glory or anything like it
Only the slightest bit of focus will inform you that you do indeed still have access to your Glory and thus, probably your Flare as well. The energy within is weaker, though. You doubt you'll be able to pull it off as often as you're used to.

Additionally, there's some other energy resonating inside. Something churning and oily, which shifts as you focus your Glory. You're... Not sure what to make of that, frankly. A bit worrying.

>Who else is a bit peckish after being half-killed and then banished from heaven?
Argh, yes. You did not expect to be, but you recognize these needs, that have always been above you before. A sucking pain in your gut, a dry need in your throat. For the first time since you came into being, you are hungry. Not to mention thirsty. That should be taken care of post-haste.
