Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls. But a dark cloud approaches, and times are about to change. A new chapter in the tale of Dark Gate Academy is about to begin.

“Kiss before I go?”

“No, Kiss when you get back.”

Those are the words that have sustained you these last three months. Kept you going. Through all the insane challenges, through all the beatings, all the broken bones... her. That damn librarian and her damn smart mouth. Nothing compares to her. Even now, as you find yourself barely able to breath, your nose busted and bleeding, your ribs in some horrendous condition, you sit on the cliff-face staring intently at the ring case in your hands. Damn it all... you should have taken a picture before you left. You'll never forget how she looks, but you could have used for something... a constant reminder of her presence in your heart. For now, all you have is this ring and her words.

“I'll never forgive you if you die, Akio.”

This whole time, you haven't wanted to disappoint her. There were so many times were you lay beaten and blooded, knowing that you just weren't tough enough, not strong enough to complete the training. That this was it, your uncle was right, you're too weak... that you were going to die alone, in the mountains, a failure and a disgrace to your family. But you pressed on. Against all rational thought you pressed on. You had to be the strongest. You had to be the toughest. You had to finish this and stand tall, a champion of the Naito name. You had to be the best. Because if you don't... Hikaru will never forgive you.

“Holy crap kid, are you still moping over that girl?”

You hang your head low as your uncle Naoaki's massive shadow looms over you. The giant joins you at the cliff-face as he sits looking out over the distance. “I gotta commend you for sticking to your guns at least. I don't get how you could bring yourself to stick to a single girl, even when you're far away from her. That's like a free pass!”

It's true, you've stayed faithful these past few months, despite Naoaki's attempts to sway you away. There was that seductive farmgirl you helped out with some lost cattle, with Naoaki trying to push her towards giving you a “reward” for your efforts. It didn't take much for you to turn the offer down. Then there was that time Naoaki brought a couple of... well, ladies of the night to the inn the two of you were staying at. One of them had blue-hair, and Naoaki assured you that you could call her, in his own words “Hikoko or whatever that chick's name is” during the act. Of course you turned it down, though you were left with the unpleasant memory of having to hear Naoaki playing around with both girls, screaming the name “Hikoko” over and over again from the other room. That mental image isn't leaving you any time soon.

All in all... your uncle is scum. He's cruel, violent, and wouldn't think twice if you died. He'd probably spit on your corpse for not living up to his insane, murderous standards. The only good thing you can say about your time training with Naoaki is... it's working. You feel yourself becoming stronger, more powerful by the day. You're several different leagues beyond what you were in the past. As it stands, you may just be the most powerful human around... besides Naoaki himself. You know he can still beat you if he went all out. And that's what tears you up inside the most.

“You know kid, your training's almost up,” Naoaki mutters, speaking in a more casual tone than you're used to. Usually, he's just barking insults.

“It is?”

“Yeah, I don't think you get how much stronger you've actually gotten,” Naoaki remarks. “Sure, it took you a lot longer than I hoped, but you've made some progress. I expect you to be finished up within the next couple days, maybe even by tomorrow! You aren't all useless kid.”

Naoaki pulls up his shirt, and uses it as a handkerchief as he coughs violently. His coughing fits have becoming more and more common an occurrence. At first, he was pretty sneaky in hiding them from you. These days he doesn't pretend to be fit at all.

“You okay?” you decide to ask.

Naoaki chuckles as he stares at you. “Wow kid, you really haven't figured it out yet, have you? I can make you tougher, but I can't make you any less of a dumbass.”

“Out with it.”

“Why the hell do you think I decided all of a sudden to give you this training?” he asks.

“You said there was a threat coming, regarding the-”

“And I was lying!” Naoaki exclaims. “How the hell would I know something like that? I can't see the future! Although, I've been sensing some crazy powers springing up lately... looks like the universe has a way of making sure I'm always right!”

You scowl. “You're serious?! Then why did you bring me out here?!”

“So that the Naito family doesn't become a long line of wimps!” Naoaki explains. “We're so supposed to be warriors, but my brothers were never up to snuff! So I had to mold you as my successor for when I go!”

“For when you-”

“Face it kid... I'm dying. And soon.”

>Good. I hope you die in pain.

>No you're not. You're too tough to die.

Naoaki scowls, before raising his hand and smacking you hard on the back of the head. His hand is like a jackhammer as it hits you, and you have to hold on tight not to fall off the side of the cliff. "Don't try and tell me when I'm dying or not, you little runt! I know when my time's coming, alright? If I say I'm dying, then I'm dying, alright?"

"Okay, geez..." you mutter. Even when you're trying to give the guy some support he manages to be a jackass.

"Anyway, don't spend all night daydreaming about all the positions you want the blue-haired girl in," Naoaki mutters. "After all, she's probably cheating on you for that friend of yours."

"Shut up."

"Touching a sore spot, am I?" Naoaki chuckles as he rises to his feet. "From what I remember of that girl, she was pretty forward. You think she's going to wait three months for you when there's a bunch of other guys she can hop on. You're nothing special kid, and you're going to feel like a real idiot for not jumping at the chance to have fun with someone else too."

You give no reply. You know he's saying all this simply to get a rise out of you. You've caught on to his game.

Nothing your silence, Naoaki huffs. "Fine, be pissy. Get some sleep, you've got a tough day tomorrow."

"You always say that."

"And it's always true, ain't it? So shut you trap and get sleeping."

Naoaki lays down on the grass at the top of the cliff, and you find a nice spot to do the same. Night where you actually sleep with a roof over your head are rare. You'll be glad to get back to your own bed, your bunk bed with your best pal Seishiro when you return to the academy. Not long now...

You wake up the next morning of your own volition... that's never happened before. In the past, every morning you were woken up by Naoaki screaming at you while stomping on your ribs. On time, he woke you up with a bottle of beer in one hand, a knife in the other, attacking you in some challenge, arguing that there'll come a day that you would have to defend yourself in your sleep from an angry drunken assassin. You managed to fight him off, with only a scar across the face to show for it. You'd be pissed off, but after seeing the thing in the mirror you realised you look pretty damn sexy with scars... even sexier than normal. Hopefully Hikaru will agree... oh, who are you kidding? Of course she will.

You sit up, and quickly realise that Naoaki is missing, what's more is that you notice the sheet of paper stuck to you. A message from Naoaki by the looks of it... seems he needed somewhere to pin it down so it wouldn't be blown away by the wind, but with no solid surface atop this cliff, he elected to staple it into your shoulder. You're amazed that you were able to sleep through something like that... shows how much tougher you've gotten. The pain was nothing to you.

You carefully pry the staple from your shoulder, before reading what it written in the note.

Kid, I've been doing some thinking lately. I've decided that it's not enough to just pass on my legacy, especially when my successor is some vain little brat like you. Nah... I've decided that I want to go out with a huge bang, a massive violent bang. Something I never could have gotten away with when I still had a life ahead of me. At precisely 8pm this evening, I'm going to attack the village at the base of the mountains. You know, that place with the inn? I'm going to tear that place apart, destroy buildings, go on a big epic rampage. Hurt, maybe even kill whichever loser stands in my way, until finally someone's strong enough to put me down for good.

I hope you take this note as your final lesson kid. Life's a piece of crap, and I figure it's better to be remembered for years as a monster than the alternative... not being remembered at all.

Crap... that's not good. That's not good at all. It's still morning, you've got about 12 hours left... but there's no way you can stop him. He's going to hurt innocent people, all based on some cheap thrill? Something to give him a kick before he dies? Damn it all... even if you stand little chance, you still have to try. You can't let that happen.

"OH GOD! SOMEONE HELP!" a woman's voice cries out nearby. A hiker no doubt. This is not the morning you expected to have.

>I've got to help that woman first!

You don't have time to think. Someone nearby is in serious trouble and you have to help. Putting the problem with Naoaki out of your mind for five second, you pick up your spear and get moving the sound of the distress. There, you see a girl with brown hair in a thick ponytail on her knees, holding the head of an unconscious man in her hand as she cries out for help. You quickly see that there's an arrow sticking out of her shoulder.

"Don't worry, I'm here to help!" you call out, announcing your presence to the woman. "What happened?"

"I... there must have been a trap set..." the girl mutters. "We were on a camping trip and... I got hit with this, and a rock has knocked my boyfriend out. He... he's still breathing, but I can't move him."

Damn it, looks like Naoaki didn't get any sleep last night. Instead, it seems he's been setting up traps along the trail in order to slow you down. Now this innocent couple have stumbled into one of them.

"Don't worry, I can carry him," you assure her, hunkering down. "There's a town not far from here, with an inn. They'll be able to help out."

"Oh, thank you so much..." the girl weeps. "I'm so glad you came... wait... Akio? Is that you?"

What? How does she know your name? The girl lifts her head, and soon you see her face. You recognise it instantly.

"Michiko?" you mutter.

Michiko smiles. "Oh... so it is you, Aki."

Michiko Saji... she was in the class above you throughout grade school and middle school. A real sweetheart through and through, the two of you dated briefly. In fact, you're pretty sure she was your first girlfriend... and your first crush... and your first kiss... it's amazing that you can see her again. Then again, this is hardly a good time for a reunion.

"Aki... you look different," Michiko remarks. "Your hair's longer, and that... scar. I never expected to find you here in the mountains either. Didn't you go to a high school far from here? What are you doing here?"

>Dodge the question, focus on what's important.

"I guess it was fate," you joke with a smile, deciding to avoid answering the question proper. "Now, let's worry about you first. That arrow looks pretty deep in there."

"Yeah, it is..." Michiko mutters. "I'm just lucky it didn't hit me somewhere more vulnerable."

"You always were the lucky type," you laugh. "I remember you almost left me bankrupt after cleaning up in all the betting pools I made."

"Don't forget poker," she smiles.

"Okay, enough reminiscing on old times," you reply. "You're losing blood. We need to get that thing out of you. This is going to hurt."

Michiko takes a deep breath. "Okay... I think I've gotten used to the pain though."

"Get ready to double it," you reply, as you place one hand on her shoulder and the other on the end of the arrow, ready to pull it out. "You ready for this?"

"Just... let me count down," Michiko mutter. "Okay, 3... 2..."

On the count of two, you pull the arrow out, causing Michiko to yelp in pain.

"Why did you pull it out so quick?!" she begs to know, placing her hand over her wound and wincing.

"It's more painful when you're expecting it, trust me..." you reply. "Besides, you would have backed out at the last second."

Michiko smiles. "Wow, after all this time you still know me well."

"Hard not to," you smirk. "You left a real impression on me. So... this is your boyfriend?"

You look down at the man lying between you and her. He's out cold.

Michiko nods. "Yes, his name's Koetsu. We met in our first year of high-school, and we've been dating since. This was supposed to be a nice camping trip for our anniversary... but I guess when I'm unlucky, I'm very unlucky."

"Don't worry, we can get him to safety," You remark, hunkering down and picking up Koetsu before throwing him over your shoulder. He's pretty tall, but he's like a feather to you. "You can still walk, right? Come on, let's get you two into town."

"Thank you so much Aki," Michiko smiles as she rises to her feet, slinging her jacket over her shoulders.

"Hey anything for my senpai, right?" you laugh, as you begin to trek onwards to town.

"So... what's with the spear?" she asks.

"I was hunting with my uncle," you make up a lie on the spot.

"Hunting?" Michiko remarks. "You know, most people hunt with guns. Or bows. Not huge spears like that."

"I've been doing a lot of hunting lately," you explain. "I've been trying to switch it up."

"I see..." Michiko mutters. "So... how's life for you Akio? You look like you've been through some trying times? Is High school life treating you well? You got friends? Maybe a girlfriend?"

>Friends? I'm the most popular guy in school!

"Oh really?" Michiko laughs. "Well, I'd say you're still a regular braggart, but I suppose I did ask. What's she like?"

"She's amazing," you remark. "Her name's Hikaru, she's a librarian-"

"Wait, what?" Michiko laughs. "A librarian? Akio Naito is dating a bookworm? And it sounds like you're truly smitten by her! Could it be the cocky, tough-guy I knew has... grown up?"

"A little," you chuckle.

"I used to think you were allergic to serious relationships. Even when we were dating, you didn't care to take things further than seeing what was under my shirt."

"Yeah, well a lot can change in three years," you reply, carrying Michiko's boyfriend over your shoulder as you wander down the cliff trail into the village.

"Indeed... and after those three years, you just come swooping in to rescue us..." Michiko smiles, placing her hand gently on your arm. "My hero."

You awkwardly clear your throat. "So, this Koetsu guy I'm lugging around. You two have been together since first year?"

"Yes, it's our two year anniversary."

"How is he?"

"He's great," Michiko smiles. "He's so sweet and caring, but he's also a real go-getter! Oh... he's been out cold for a while now, I'm really starting to get worried..."

"He'll be fine," you explain. "I mean, he might have a fractured skull at worst, but he's still alive."

"I'm hoping for a little more than simply 'alive'," Michiko sighs. "Aki, are you sure that-"

You're interrupted by a howling sound, as from above you are swooped upon by a rather vicious looking pack of wolves. Damn it... the things must have smelled the blood. There's about six of them in all, and they waited for their chance to surround the three of you in a perfect circle. Something's off about them too... they're much bigger than the average wolf. All of them are huge. You ready your spear, prepared to fight them off. You know they shouldn't be any trouble for you, but you've got two defenceless and injured civilians to protect. You've got to make sure those two are safe most of all.

You lower Koetsu onto the ground next to Michiko. "I'll take care of this," you mutter, gripping your spear tight. "Stay down."

"Aki, you can't possibly-"

"Stay down."

You twirl the spear in your hand, before steadying it as you wait for the wolves to make the first move. You have to be careful, you're along a cliff trail, and have very little room to move, lest you go falling down the side. You wolves to your front snarl and growl at you but don't move. You make note of their hesitation, and their line of sight, and are able to realise that they're expecting you to be attacked from behind first. Unfortunately for them, you're well equipped to deal with it.

You hear a wolf leaping off it's feet, ready to pounce on you as you swing your spear around with a sweeping strike, hitting the wolf with the side of the spear and knocking it down the side of the cliff. Another pounces at you when you turn you back to attack the first, but you continue to spin in your sweeping attack, slicing the second wolf's stomach open as you do. It collapses in a bloody heap and dies yelping, as you note the rest of the pack looking hesitant to fight you. Not surprising, seeing as you took down two of their number with little effort.

Instead, you see a wolf charging towards Michiko, who is cowering on the ground next to her unconscious boyfriend.

"Aki, help!" Michiko calls out, crying in fear as the wolf pounces towards her, but you're quick on the scene, dashing in front of her and raising your spear high, piercing it through the attacker. It manages to position itself in such a way to reach at you even with a spear driven into the lower part of it's stomach, as is clamps down hard on your forearms with its teeth. You grimace as you drive the spear harder through the wolf, and eventually it's biting grip loosens up and it passes away. You shake the wolf off the tip of your spear, allowing it's carcass to roll down the side of the cliff.

With half of their numbers gone in the span of a minute, the rest of the pack quickly realise you aren't someone for them to be picking a fight with, and run off. You breath a sigh of relief, as you hunker down next to the shaking and shivering Michiko. "They're gone now. You're safe."

Before you know it, Michiko is throwing her arms around you and holding you tight, crying into your shoulder. "Oh god... if you weren't here Aki, we would be... thanks you so m-much..."

She's legitimately terrified and shaking hard. You decide to return the hug in an attempt to comfort her. "There, there... it's all going to be okay, Michiko. I've got your back."

Michiko pulls away from the hug, staring you in the eyes for a good few seconds. She bites her bottom lip hesitantly, before closing her eyes and leaning into you, her lip almost meeting with yours. You place your hands on her shoulders and push her back, while also tilting your head back to create distance from the oncoming kiss. "Whoa, what are you doing?" you ask in a panicked tone.

Michiko's eyes shoot open wide as she catches on to what she just tried to do. "Oh... I... I'm so sorry! I just... I got caught up in the moment, and..."

She looks over at her unconscious boyfriend, then back to you. "I love Koetsu very much."

"You don't have to convince me of that," you mutter, picking Koetsu back up. "Come on, let's go."

"So... you go hunting a lot, I take it?" Michiko asks.

"Yeah, of course. Can't you tell by the scars?"

"And the way you fought off those wolves..." Michiko sighs. "You know Aki, you were always great at coming up with lies on the spot... but your lack of hesitation is also your tell. You're much quicker to answer a question with a lie than you are when you're telling the truth."

"What are you saying?" you ask.

"Akio... it's fine," Michiko sighs. "You don't need to tell me why you're actually here, or why you have that scar, or why you can fight off a pack of wolves on your own... I'd appreciate it if you did, though."

>Tell her the truth

You take a deep breath. "Okay... I know this is going to be hard to swallow but... I'm training with my uncle in the mountains. The school I go to... Dark Gate... it's full of kids with superpowers, and I'm one of them. My dad and all his brothers went there too. I took the summer out to hone my powers with my uncle Naoaki."

"Naoaki..." Michiko mutters. "Isn't he the one you weren't allowed to see anymore?"

"Yeah," you reply. "He's kind of a psycho... and by 'kind of', I mean totally, and by 'psycho' I mean he's planning to destroy the village and kill some people tonight."

There's a long pause as Michiko stares at you incredulously. "You don't believe me, do you?" you ask.

"No, not at all," Michiko shakes her head. "Everything you said was insane, and I'm not going to humour it. Still... you don't sound like you're lying. Maybe you just got better at it."

"Well, I did get better at lying," you explain. "But in this case, I'm actually telling the truth."

"Keep your secrets," Michiko replies. "Let's just get to the inn so we can make sure Koetsu's okay."

You carry Koetsu over your shoulder, and walking alongside Michiko, you eventually make it into the village. You rush to the nearby inn. Entering inside, the owner instantly recognises you... meaning he instantly fears you. Breathing a sigh of relief once he realises the loud angry giant isn't with you during this visit, he throws his attention towards Koetsu, taking him into a back room to examine his condition. Michiko rushes to be by her boyfriend's side, as you collapse into a chair in the inn's lounge. You kick off your boots as you grab a pen and piece of paper from a nearby table.

You consider writing to Hikaru, updating her on your training... but it can wait. You've already sent her a letter almost every day since you started your training anyway, and you're yet to hear word back from her. Of course, Hikaru really has no way of sending anything back to you since she doesn't know your location, but that didn't stop Naoaki from constantly pestering you with the suggestion that she's ignoring you and has moved on to sleeping with Seishiro. All you can really hope for is that the letters have been reaching her properly. She'll hate you if she thinks you haven't been thinking of her.

For now, your main concern is Naoaki, and how to stop him from his oncoming rampage. You don't know if you can take him on properly in a one-on-one fight... though that's clearly what he wants. He mentioned in his note that he wanted someone strong enough to come along who can put him down... who else could that person be but you? You jot down several points on Naoaki... his potential weakpoints in the event of having to take him down. You're no match for his incredible strength, and while he might have terrifying agility for his size, you still have a speed advantage over your uncle. You could try to dance around him, outmanoeuvre him, but if he catches you even once... that could be it for you.

You also jot down the possibility of setting up a trap in preparation for his arrival, but you don't know if that'll work. For one, you don't know which direction he's coming from. Hell, he could be hiding out in the village right now and just be waiting it out until it comes time for his rampage.

"Having problems?" a voice from behind you asks.

"Yeah..." you mutter.

"Let me guess," the voice says again. You hear footsteps as and you see the figure of a small woman passing by and taking the chair directly in front of you. She crosses her legs and forms a triangle with her finger, pondering over it. "I'm going to say... something to do with family, correct?"

"Correct," you reply, continuing to jot down on the page.

"Oh, families. They can be truly horrendous sometimes," the girl laughs. "I've always subscribed to the theory that you should choose your family from the people you love... that's what I did, at least."

You look up to see the smiling girl, with blue-white hair and a blue jacket. She's really going all in on this conversation, huh?

"Sorry, who are you?"

"How rude of me," she says, outstretching her hand in offer of a handshake. "The name is Miyoko."

"Miyoko?" you ask. "You got a last name to go along with that?"

Miyoko shakes her head. "No. Like I said, I chose my family, and they chose me. A surname is reserved for those of the same bloodline. I find that... outdated, at the very least."

The tone of her voice is very regal, very polite. She's definitely not from this mountain village.

>Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Miyoko.

>Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Miyoko.

"It's a pleasure to be met," Miyoko relies with a confident grin, as you shake her gloved hand. "Mr...?"

"Akio," you reply. "Akio Naito."

"What a pleasant name!" Miyoko replies. "Akio... Akio... Akio... feels good on the tongue."

"Are... you flirting with me?" you ask.

"Oh dear me, no!" Miyoko chuckles. "Just making friends with a stranger. You know... I sense something in you, Akio."

"What do you mean?" you ask.

"You have a demon, don't you?"

You pause. A demon? Wait... does she know about the darkworld. "What do you mean, demon?"

"An inner demon?" Miyoko giggles. "That is the expression, right? Or would you prefer I said you have a monkey on your back? Are you the religious type? No mentions of demons, hell or darker realms than ours? I for one am very interested in all manners of the occult. It's a fascinating subject. The mythologies that surround the concept of an underworld, a place to harbour lost souls, is-"

"Is starting to take you on a bit of a tangent," you joke.

"Oh! Apologies!" Miyoko smirks, throwing a finger up. "My point is that it seems you're being plagued by dark thoughts, perhaps brought on by this family member of yours that you're writing about. Alarming pressure, feelings of inadequacy, lodged deep in the forefront of your mind. That's your demon."

"You sure talk a lot," you mutter. "Do you have any advice on how to deal with this stuff?"

"Oh, that's simple!" Miyoko explains. "When plagued by an inner demon, one must eradicate it. What use is there in keeping it around. No good can come from them, it's even there in the name. Demon is derived from the latin daemonium, meaning an evil spirit."

"I didn't realise this was an etymology lecture," you laugh.

"I'll have you know this is solid advice," Miyoko replies. "You see, the latin daemonium may refer to an evil spirit, but it also refers to a lesser spirit. Demons are lesser spirits, whilst we are in possession of much greater spirits. You should not concern yourself with a demon, then, for it is beneath you. It is easily vanquished. It's what I did to mine."

She sure rambles on, doesn't she?

"I guess you're right about humans have greater-"

"No," Miyoko interrupts. "Not humans. You and I. We are the greater spirits. Like I said earlier, I see something special in you, Akio. Something right about..."

As she speaks, she removes her glove, and leans forward poking her finger into your chest, pointing at your heart. As she does, you feel this overwhelming... surge. You can't explain it, but you just feel so much... better. Perhaps her strange pep-talk did more for you than you thought.

"... here." Miyoko giggles as she pulls her hand back and puts her glove back on. "I wish you good luck in slaying your demon, Akio. I'll be watching."

"Huh?" you ask, as Miyoko wanders off. "What do you mean you'll be watching?"

She ignores your question as she leaves the inn, a huge smug smirk plastered across her face. That was an odd encounter, to say the least.

As you sit in your chair, wondering what the hell just happened, you are approached by Michiko and a now conscious Koetsu.

"This is him," Michiko explains to Koetsu. "This is Akio. He saved us."

Koetsu smiles as he offers you a handshake. He's still leaning on Michiko for support, unable to properly walk on his own strength. "Thank you so much to coming to our aid. I understand you're an old friend of Michiko's. Thank you so much for keeping her safe."

>Don't thank me, you were in need. I was hardly going to ignore it.

>Don't thank me, you were in need. I was hardly going to ignore it.

"How can I not thank you?" Koetsu smiles. "You saved my life. More importantly, you saved Michiko's."

More importantly? Wow, this guy really thinks a lot of his girlfriend, doesn't he?

"It was really no problem," you insist. Usually, you'd be bragging non-stop about something like this, but you've just got far too much on your mind.

"Your life is just as important as mine," Michiko says. "If anything, it's more important. Oh, I'm so glad you're okay!"

Michiko cups Koetsu's face in her hands as she pulls him in for a kiss. A very long, very passionate kiss. You look away, but it's hardly surprising. Those two just had near-death experiences together, and you're sure Michiko is trying to make up for her little indiscretion earlier.

"Okay, so who's ready for some food?" Michiko asks. "We were walking for hours, and I think we all need a little food to keep our energy up!"

She's right, it took a long time for you to even make it into the village while having to take care of Michiko and Koetsu. You're only three or four hours removed from Naoaki's rampage. You remain in your seat, silently panicking to yourself as the inn staff bring several plates of food. You haven't eaten since yesterday, so it's a welcome sight. What isn't a welcome sight it Michiko constantly sneaking glances at you and blushing. It's making you feel real sorry for this Koetsu guy.

"So, you went to school with Michiko?" Koetsu asks, trying hard to get a read on you. It's obvious he's suspicious of you. Who wouldn't be? You're a heavily scarred kid carrying a huge spear. That's suspicious.

"Yeah, I did," you reply, munching down on food. "We knew each-other in grade school and middle school. Had some good times, too."

"I see..." Koetsu mutters. "I take it the two of you were close, then?"

"Yeah, kinda."

"In fact," Michiko replies. "We actually kinda dated for a while."

Koetsu squints his eyes at you. "You did?"

"Only for a while," Michiko laughs. "No need to get jealous Koetsu. Akio has his own girlfriend now, and I have you."

She takes his hand and grasps it tight, as Koetsu turns to her and smiles. "Of course... and I'm the luckiest man in the world."

"Yeah, you sure are a lucky guy," you reply with a smile, though keeping your eye on the clock attached to the wall. "But I think it's time I should head on."

"Head on?" Michiko asks, as you rise from your chair. She grabs you by the wrist, stopping you. "You can't just leave! You saved us, and we have so much catching up to do! We might not ever see each-other again after this! Please, can't you stay a few more hours? For me?"

"I'd very much like to know you too," Koetsu replies.

>Sorry, I really have to go.

Michiko pouts. "Really, that's it? After three years, you come out of nowhere, save our lives, and then... what? You expect me to let you disappear into the night after that? Aki..."

"I'm not disappearing into the night," you explain. "I have some things I need to take care of first. I'll be back, I promise."

You wander off, leaving the inn and wondering where your uncle could have gotten to. It's only a few hours until he attacks, and if you know anything about Naoaki, it's that he's likely to have lied about the time in the first place. He could be attacking much earlier... hell, he could not be attacking at all. Maybe it's all a way to mess with your head, one of his last challenges for you. Make you think he's going to hurt innocent people, when in fact he's just toying with you? Maybe the challenge is to see through his lie. Maybe not. You can never tell with Naoaki.

You run through the streets searching for your uncle. If he's not in the inn, there's no telling where he could be. He could be anywhere in the whole wide... oh wait, there he is.

Chugging down a glass bottle of booze and staggering out of an alleyway, you see Naoaki. You quickly approach him, and angrily demand to know what's going on.

"Is it true?!"

Naoaki spits and wipes his mouth. "Oh hey kid, you found me. You know, a simple 'hello' is pretty nice."

"Stop playing around," you mutter. "Are you actually going to do what you say?"

"What, destroy the town?" Naoaki chuckles. "Break some buildings, cause some panic, maybe kill a few people? Of course! But not until 8pm! I've got some stuff that I want to do before my last hours."

"And what is it that you want to do?"

Answering your question, a dishevelled and exhausted looking blue-haired woman wanders out from the shadows of the alley and passes by you. "That was great, Hikoko! Keep it up!" Naoaki yells after her.

"Are you serious?" you ask. "You're disgusting. And a monster."

"Good!" Naoaki claps his hands together. "Monster is the angle I'm going for!"

"Why do you want to do something like this?" you ask.

"Because you'll try to stop me," Naoaki replies in a matter-of-fact tone. "And if you're strong enough, you'll kill me and I'll die knowing my legacy is actually secure. And if you're not, then I get to be remembered as the monstrous giant who terrorised the village for years to come! And tell me, what good is life you can't be remembered? I demand to be remembered, damn it!"

In a strange way, you understand where he's coming from. Fame, glory, recognition... they are all things you have wanted to achieve in your life, a reward for becoming the absolute best. But this is not the way to go about it. It seems his dying mind is leading Naoaki to act even more insane than usual.

"Oh, how flattering..." Naoaki mutters.

"I mean it," you reply. "Uncle, you've taught me so much over the last few months, oftentimes against my will. You think I'm just going to let that be forgotten? No! I'm going to tell it to the world! When I come rushing in to save the day, fight off a horde of demons, and everyone's looking at me, asking me how I became so strong, you know what I'm going to tell them? I'm going to tell them that I was taught by none other than Naoaki Naito, the biggest, toughest son of a bitch the earth has ever seen! Your legacy will live on through me!"

Naoaki folds his arms. "You give a good speech, kid... but you have to know that's not enough for me. I need to know that you're as strong as I am... stronger, even. I need you to be able to beat me, to kill me. If you can't... then I haven't really lived on at all, have I?"

"Uncle..."

"Tell you what, Kid. I won't put this nice little village in danger," he replies. "You and I, we'll find a nice quiet spot out of town where we can have our big fight, okay? The only people that'll be hurt are you and hopefully me. You ready for that?"

"Yes, I'm prepared to fight you," you reply.

"Not fight me," Naoaki shakes his head. "Kill me. Come on."

"What, now?" you ask. "I thought you were going to wait until-"

"I'm done waiting," Naoaki interrupts, grabbing you by the scruff of your shirt. "We fight now. Training time is over."

Naoaki drags you out onto a wide open plain of grass along the road outside of the small mountain village. You take a deep breath and ready your spear. He expects you to fight him... no, he expects you to be able to kill him. You know you can't do that. Even if you could beat him, you know you could never bring yourself to kill him. But none of that matters, because you're going to have to defend yourself, as Naoaki clenches his fist and waits for you to make the first move.

There's only one thing you have over Naoaki when it comes to combat prowess, and that's that you're faster than he is, but even then it's not by much. Naoaki's still plenty swift despite his massive frame. For now, it's better to test exactly how fast he can react to your movements, test the exact difference in your respective speeds, and work around that.

You lunge forward at Naoaki, with full knowledge that he'll be able to dodge the incoming attack. He leaps to the side, and prepares to catch you with a swinging kick as he does. You were prepared for this, however, and easily roll out of the way of the attack, before making a move to poke him from behind with your spear once more. His reactions are still quick, as he spins around, blocking the attack by hitting the side of your spear with the back of his fist. In one smooth motion, he then lunges at you in order to take you down with a clothesline, but you duck under once again, twirling your spear into position and swiping upwards as you do, managing to slice across the upper part of Naoaki's arm.

Naoaki moves to safety as he admires your working. "Got the first hit in, that's a good start!" he laughs. "But you're going to have to do more than that! Come on, kid! I'm looking for the last and best fight of my life! I don't want you dancing and twirling that thing around like a pansy!"

With that said, Naoaki lunges at you, his fist clenched into a tight ball. You've eaten a punch from Naoaki in the past, and they carry enough force to knock you back a dozen feet at the least. It's like being hit by two trucks stacked on top of each-other.

As Naoaki comes charging at you, you leap to your side in order to avoid the oncoming attack... however, it seems Naoaki counted on you doing so, as he stops in his tracks and suddenly changes the direction of his attack in a hurry. The giant may be a brash moron when it comes to general life, but he's a genius when it comes to predicting his opponent in battle. He knows how to fight better than anyone. You aren't able to move out of the way in time, the most you're able to do is throw your arms up in hopes of blocking parts of the attack, and at the very least not eating a fist to the face.

The force of the punch is staggering, you swear you can see the air move around Naoaki's fist as he makes contact. You're sent flying back through the air at the speed of a sports car. You try to find you feet once more before being sent flying too far, but Naoaki isn't content with dealing out just a single punch. Instead, he chases after you as you fly through the air. He grabs you by the throat as he catches up to you, and slams you hard into the ground, or rather... through the ground, as the earth cracks beneath the force of the attack, creating a small crater beneath you. His hand still grasped around your neck, Naoaki raises you to his level before tossing you aside. At least three bones in your body are broken from that move alone. You can't take much more of his attacks.

"You're pathetic kid," Naoaki shakes his head, as you rise to your feet and clutch your spear. "I thought you could be the next me, but looks like I was wrong. You've got too much of your old man in you."

"What did you just say?" you ask, spitting out blood forming in your mouth.

"My departed brother Akiko's the only one who had a son," Naoaki sighs. "It's a shame it had to be him. If you were my boy, you would have grown up big and strong, a true warrior for the ages, but no... you were his. You're a pathetic weakling, just like your daddy was, boy. And that's why you're going to die a little bitch... just like your daddy."

After three months of horrible mental and physical abuse... Naoaki can consider the line officially crossed.

You can't let yourself get mad. That's just what he wants you to do. He wants you to lose your composure and get sloppy, but you're not going to give him the satisfaction. No, instead you're going to think about this rationally. You need to be able to beat him, and angrily rushing him isn't going to do that. No, you need to be smarter, target his limbs and remove his ability to fight.

You ready you spear as you make your move, driving it at Naoaki. He dodges the first hit, obviously, but you keep up with the assault, using your speed advantage to outmanoeuvre Naoaki, while looking out for the small openings in his attacks that give you the opportunity to drive your spear into his joints.

Despite your speed advantage, Naoaki is in top form and going all out, and manages to avoid most of your attacks. Eventually however, the comes at you with a kick which you duck under, and are able to poke him with a spear to the back of the knee. That ought to slow him down at least a little. Or so you would think, as Naoaki seems to be working through the pain. A slight dent in his movement, but he's still in mostly fine condition, as he comes leaping at you with both hands raised high, planning to pummel you into the ground as he makes his landing.

Naoaki comes charging at you with his fist readies, but it was foolish of him to telegraph his attack like that. It seems the minor pokes and prods with your spear have started to infuriate him, causing him to lose his composure as he demands that you act like a brute on the battlefield yourself. But you know as well as he does that this isn't the way to take him down in combat. You need to outclass him, not outpower him. Maybe not be the physically stronger fighter, but still the better fighter. He comes down on you and you re-position yourself and ready your spear, using your newfound opening to drive it between his ribs as he comes down. With the force he comes down on you, the spear lodges in deep, causing a very sizeable hole in your uncle's chest... in fact if he weren't so massive, you would say that you obliterated his entire ribcage. At the very least, you're certain you've punctured a lung.

Naoaki gasps for air and coughs up blood as you pull the spear from him. He staggers around in clear pain... the first time you've ever seen him in this kind of condition. Still, he's not going to give up until he can no longer breathe. There's still just that bit more to do before you can end this fight for good. Still... you don't know if you can take things that far.

"Nice shot... I'm actually kinda proud of you for that one," Naoaki gasps. "But I'm not dead yet kid. You gotta hit me with something better than that. So do it... hit me with your best shot."

You know one move that could keep Naoaki down and beaten, but... you've never properly pulled it off before. The Deep Impact, as Naoaki called it... his most powerful attack, one strong enough to cause massive craters in the earth, with such an impact radius that it's near impossible for an enemy to escape it. He tried to pass it on to you, but to pull it off requires truly remarkable strength in the user, an incredible raw power coursing throughout the body of the user. Naoaki has that power, but you could never match it... until now. This time, it's going to work. You're going to pull it off. You believe in yourself. You are Akio Naito, and you have far surpassed your uncle. You've far surpassed any human being on the planet. You believe in yourself, you know that in your heart of hearts... you are the best fighter on earth. You've reached the pinnacle you always dreamed of reaching... and now it's time to prove it.

With the power of your hind legs, you leap far above Naoaki's designated battlefield. You ready your massive spear in your hands, pointing it downward, directly at Naoaki. You take a deep breath as you wind your arm back, before thrusting it forward, plunging yourself back down to earth, guided by the weight of your weapon. You feel the air against your face become more forceful and violent the more you pick up speed on your way down, and your spear begins to glow red hot before bursting into flames as it makes it's decent, like a meteor crashing into earth. Then topping it all off with a warrior's cry.

"DEEEEEEEEEEEEEP IMPAAAAAAAAAAACT!"

You crash into the ground atop Naoaki, and everything around you is consumed in a flash of white. You're blinded by the force of your destruction, and everything around you burns. As your vision returns, you see that the field you were fighting in has been replaced by a massive crater, and Naoaki lays beaten and bloodied on the ground before you, gasping for air. It took so much out of you... but you did it. You won. You're the most powerful man.

"Never thought you had it in you," Naoaki gasps. "Now... finish it. Kill me. Let me go out like a proper warrior."

"I don't want to kill you," you reply, holding your spear back.

"Then you've failed..." Naoaki replies, spitting up a glob of blood. "You've got it all kid, except one thing... the killer instinct. Without it, you can never be a fighter like me."

"Maybe I don't want to be a fighter like you," you fire back. "Maybe I want to be something better than you. I have no reason to take your life."

"Then how's this for a reason?" Naoaki gasps. "You know that girlfriend of yours? You know those letters you were sending her? Well, I took every one of them... and I burned them. Not only that... but I sent her a letter of my own, pretending to be you... dumping her. Told her you weren't ever interested in coming back, telling her to move on... I bet she did. I bet she moved right into the loving arms of that best pal of yours."

You clench your fist tight. Hikaru... she didn't receive a single one of your letters... and she thinks you left her. This bastard... he's pathetic.

"Got you angry enough?" Naoaki. "Face it kid, you hate me. I've put you through nothing but hell these last three months. If you're not willing to kill me, how the hell will you be willing to kill when it matters? I'm dying soon anyway, so it can't even hurt your conscience that much. >Don't kill him.

"I'm not like you, Naoaki." You shake your head, as you loosen your grip on your spear. "I became stronger not so that I could be a killer, but so that I could protect the people that matter to me. I don't give a damn if I failed your challenge, because I was never working to pass your tests... only my own."

"You're a real brat, you know that?" Naoaki mutters, unable to pick himself off the ground.

"Yeah, I know..." you smirk. "Just know, despite everything, I'll be thankful for everything that you taught me. I owe you a lot, uncle. I'll never forget you."

"Heh... never thought an insolent welp like you would be the one to surpass me..." Naoaki groans. "Fine. Do things your way. You beat me... you're strong. That's enough to make me proud... Akio."

Hearing what may be the first, and almost definitely the last kind words you'll ever get from your uncle leaves you with a smile on your face. You plan to help him to his feet... but for some reason, you can't move a muscle. You're frozen stiff. Perhaps it's an after-effect of the Deep Impact move, but you're unable to budge a single part of your body. Soon, you hear slow clapping from behind.

"Well done, Akio. You actually did it. I'm sure you're grateful for that little boost I gave you," the voice says, as a familiar girl with blue-white hair steps into your frame of view. "I told you I saw something in you."

"Miyoko...?" you mutter. "What are you doing here? What's going on?"

"I like that. Having many questions is the sign of an inquisitive mind!" She smiles, as she turns her attention to Naoaki. "I'm so glad you were able to soften him up. I could have done it myself, of course, but I was very curious to see your power, and I didn't want to rob you off your sweet closure. Nobody likes an anti-climax. And this way, I don't have to murder your uncle to get what I want! Isn't it fantastic when everybody wins?"

"The hell are you...?" Naoaki gasps, as Miyoko hunkers down next to him.

"Just sit tight, old man..." Miyoko smiles. "Just taking something that you stole from my home."

Miyoko reaches down into Naoaki's pocket and pulls out... a stone? That's it?

"That old thing?" Naoaki remarks. "That's just a stupid old souvenir. I've had it for years!"

"And yet you held onto it all those years, no matter how far you travelled," Miyoko teases. "Surely you can't deny the kind of power you feel from it?"

"You're not human, are you?" you ask.

Miyoko tilts her head as she stares at you. "Now that's just rude. I'm human as one can be! Just... with a little extra. Anyway, I best be taking my leave. Do be a dear to your uncle in his last moments. He may not be perfect, but if you aren't kind now, you'll regret it the rest of your life."

Miyoko disappears into the night, as you feel yourself regaining control of your body. You rush to help Naoaki to his feet, but as you do he pushes you away, electing to stand on what remains of his own power.

"I don't understand what happened..." Naoaki mutters. "But it's not my problem, is it? I'll die without knowing, so I shouldn't stress."

"Naoaki..."

"You're still here?" Naoaki chuckles. "Go on, kid. Training's over. You failed... but I'm sure you'll tell everyone you passed because of your morals or whatever. You know... you really are like Akiko. Your father was a good kid... I miss the hell out of him."

"I'll always remember you, uncle."

"Oh, don't get all sappy on me!" Naoaki laughs, then coughs. "Just hurry and go home. Find your girl... Hikaru... and you charm the pants off of her. You earned it, kid."

"Where are you going?" you ask.

Naoaki sighs. "I can't get a warrior's death... so I'll settle for the next best thing. I'm going to find a nice, quiet spot in the mountain, and let myself die digging my own grave. That's not a bad way for me to go out, right?"

There's a tense silence between the two of you, before Naoaki gives a reassuring nod. "Goodbye kid... do me proud."

You take a deep breath, as you and your uncle part ways for the very last time. You make your way back to the road leaving the village, as you are stopped by a familiar face.

"You're leaving, aren't you?" Michiko asks.

"What are you doing here?"

"I saw it all," Michiko explains. "The fight with your uncle. You weren't lying earlier... that really is your life."

"Yeah... it is."

Before you know it, your shirt is being grabbed by a frantic Michiko. "Take me with you!"

"What?"

"Michiko... this isn't the life for you..."

"It could be," Michiko replies. "It's what I want. I want this life, and I want to live this life... with you. Please, remember all the fun we had together back in the good old days? I miss you, Aki. And I know you miss me. Please... I'm begging you. I want to come with you."

>No, Michiko. This life isn't safe for someone like you.

"But... but you can protect me!" Michiko cries. "I'll be safe as long as I'm with you."

"Michiko... no." You shake your head. "This life isn't for you. Only a select few can live it, and even then we're constantly at risk. Go back to Koetsu. He seems like a good guy. Don't throw that away for some thrill."

You turn to walk away, as Michiko continues to call out after you. "What? You... you can't just leave me like this. I can't go back to my regular world when I now know yours exists! Please Aki, I don't care if it's dangerous! I can brave it out! I... I can learn to fight! You can teach me! Please!"

"Goodbye, Michiko."

Michiko pauses as you walk away from her, before calling out once more. "I'll tell people! About you, about your uncle, about your school! I'll tell anyone who'll listen! I won't let it be a secret! You hear me, Aki? I won't!"

You shamefully shake your head as you walk away from her, likely never to see her again. Poor girl... she must have grown tired of her stagnant life, and she looked to you as a saviour, someone to sweep her off her feet and bring her into a magical world of thrilling adventure. That's how it looks to her on the surface, so it's understandable she'd go crazy longing for it... but she has no idea of the kind of horrors you have to face.

It was difficult seeing her like that. You remember her as being a sweet, collected person, not obsessive and forceful like that... then again, you've changed a great deal over time yourself. Once you were the cocky egotist who cared for nothing more than the fame riches and glory that came with being the best in the world... now you realise there's much more to life than that. Sure, you're not going to shy away from a little bragging, and you'd be happy as a rich man, but it's not what comes first in life. Your friends, the people you love... they're the ones who come first. And now... you'll finally be able to make it back to them.

>Three days later

Three days straight of travelling the roads, hitching a ride whenever you could, and you find yourself not far from the academy. In fact... you find yourself standing just outside Chishiki, Hikaru's hometown. You remember visiting there once during your first term, in order to ask Hikaru's parents for the permission to date her. They declined, but Hikaru eventually made her own choice to be with you. Though as you enter the town, you realise that there's a real commotion going on... one involving your classmates... and a demon.

"Did somebody order a hero to sweep her off her feet?"

That's the line you use as you land the finishing blow on the creature on behalf of your friends. The perfect line to use to charm the pants off of Hikaru. She stares at you, frozen in amazement that you're actually, truly standing before her... you're pretty shocked too. She's just as beautiful as you remember... no, she's even more beautiful.

"Akio...?" she mutters, staring at you in shock.

"That's me, babe."

Hikaru staggers up to you, reaches out... and slaps you as hard as she can across the face. "You damn idiot!" she yells. "You disappear for three months! Three months! I don't hear anything from you in all that time! I cry myself to sleep at night thinking you died, and... what? You just swoop in, spout a cheesy line and expect me to jump your bones?"

"I was kinda hoping on it," you chuckle, before taking another slap to the face.

"Oh, you make me so angry!" She yells. "Not even an apology? Is your ego so big you thought all would be forgiven? I was worried half to death! I thought the guy I loved was gone for good!"

>I know, Hikaru... and I promise I'll make it up to you. I'm sorry.
>I sent letters, babe... but Naoaki burned them.

Naoaki... it's been days since you finally parted ways with your uncle. It leaves a sinking feeling in your stomach when you realise that he's likely dead by now.

"Of course he did..." Hikaru mutters. "He sent me the fake letter too, right?"

"Yeah..." you reply. Good thing she recognised it as a fake. Hikaru's smart. "But still, I promise I'll make all of this up to you."

"You better!" Hikaru exclaims, as she slaps you across the chest in anger. "You had me worried to death! You stupid, cocky, egotistical..."

Hikaru throws her arms around you, and presses her lips up against yours, kissing you passionately. "Oh Akio... I missed you so much."

"Same here, babe..." you mumble between kisses. "I could barely live without you."

As tears stream down from Hikaru's face, it begins to pour heavily with rain. All the better, you always imagined having one of those romantic kisses in the rain... just like out of the movies.

You grab Hikaru by the hips and raise her up, and she wraps her legs tightly around you as the two of you remain embraced, furiously making out.

"This is making me sick," you hear Shinji's voice mutter.

"Don't like it, look away!" Hikaru snaps at her brother, before returning to you. Keeping her up, you place your hands on her behind as the two of your swirl your tongues together.

"Ryoji, this is getting very lewd..." you hear Saki's voice mumble.

"It sure is, Sak..." you hear from Ryoji. "Can't look away, though."

"Yeah, now that's more like it!" you hear the voice of Rini Tozawa cry out. "Damn, Hikaru! I never knew you were such a sexy beast! Now you're doing it! Go crazy! Pick up the slack Akio! Take her right here!"

That odd piece of affirmation from one of the class delinquents is enough to break Hikaru from her passionate spell, as she hops off you, awkward and embarrassed, but still holding on tight to you. "I'm, uhh... sorry you all had to see that..."

"Akio... is that really you?" you hear an all too familiar voice call out. Your best buddy in the world... Seishiro.

"Yeah Seish, who else would it be?" you smirk, and pretty soon you're mobbed by a hug from the guy, who almost shoves Hikaru out of the way to get to you. "Bro... I can't believe you're back."

"Come on, you really expected me to be gone forever?" you laugh. "Come on, you know me better than that."

"Still, it's really you! In the flesh! You're hair's looking kinda girly, but still! You're back, and I... I just want you to know that I love you, pal."

"Love you too, buddy."

"Well, no... we-"

"Then what are you waiting for?" you laugh. "Get on that!"

"Good to see you're not dead," Ryoji nods. "I don't mean to brag, but I had faith you'd be on your way back."

"Ryoji!" You yell, hugging him as well. "You're back from the Darkworld! I DO mean to brag, but I always had faith you'd find a way out of there! How's my rival doing?"

"Stressed," Ryoji replies.

You pull away, and take a good look at Saki, before giving a salute. "Boss. It's good to see you again."

"What, no hug for me?" Saki huffs.

"Whatever you say, boss." You smile as you wrap your arms around Saki and hug her tight, lifting her off her feet as you do.

You're not surprised that there's a lot going on right now, it seems you arrived during the heat of battle. The rain seems to have cleared up very quickly, and you see Hiro tending to the wounds of... some kid with glasses. You don't recognise him. He must be some transfer student. Either way, he's getting patched up while Hoshi dotes on him.

"You've finally returned," Shinji mutters. "I have to admit... I was wrong about you Akio."

"Yeah, I was secretly amazing this whole time," you brag. "Perfect guy for your sister, right?"

"I wouldn't go so far," Shinji mutters. "But... it's good to see you back. You're definitely good enough for her."

That's likely the highest praise you'll ever get. Of course, Shinji isn't the only member of Hikaru's family you find yourself dealing with...

"Hikaru? Shinji? Kids, is that you?"

"Oh, my little baby Satomi! What are you doing here?!"

The Shirai siblings and Satomi's parents, stepping outside onto the streets after the apparent "Tornado" that tore through the town, welcoming their children and their friends after they chose to visit at the most inopportune time. While they may be heavily traditional types, at least Mr and Mrs. Shirai are very hospitable, and after all of the destruction are more than welcome to invite everyone in for tea.

"So... Satomi," Hikaru's mother smiles, sitting next to Satomi's own mother at the table. You had no idea that despite their falling out and rivalry, their parent's remained close and friendly neighbours. Granted, they're likely under the impression that their daughter's still get along fine. "How is school? I'm sure you and Hikaru are having the time of your lives!"

"We..." Satomi mumbles, taking a look towards Hikaru. The two share a small smile amongst each-other. "Yes, we are."

"Oh, that's so good to hear!" Hikaru's mother claps her hands together. "You kids are like sisters! Nothing could ever pry you apart!"

"Akio... you look very different," Hikaru's father remarks, a stern expression on his face. "You have a scar now."

"Nasty accident while hunting with my uncle," you explain.

"I see..." he mutters. "I suppose while you're here, you'll be asking permission to court my daughter again, correct?"

>Actually, I was planning to ask permission to marry your daughter.
>I don't need your permission. We're already together, sir.
>No, sir. I need to prove myself to be a good man first.

Reiji bullying is good. He has the Star doting on him though so he's probably more than okay.

Whew, Seishiro a bold confessing like that!

>No, sir. I need to prove myself to be a good man first.

Hikaru's father grins as he sips on his tea. "Now that's what I like to hear. Keep up that spirit, and you may earn our permission yet!"

Here's the point where you expect Shinji to spill the beans on you and Hikaru to his parents like a little tattle-tale... but he doesn't. Not a single word from the loyal dog of Class 3, just a knowing nod in your direction. After you finish your tea, Hikaru asks to speak to you outside for a moment.

"Yeah, babe?" you asks as the two of you step out onto the front porch.

"What the hell was that crap?"

"Excuse me?"

"I need to prove myself? Come on! You're Akio freaking Naito! You're the best fighter in the world! You've got an ego the size of a blimp! I get that you're just trying to be civil for my dad, but you can at least try to be genuine!"

"I was being genuine..." you mutter. "I know I brag a lot, but I still have to prove to you that I'm a good man."

"No you don't!" Hikaru scoffs, placing her hands on your hips. "Akio... I already know you're a good man. You're better than good. You're a great man... a hero! You have nothing left to prove to me."

"Babe..."

"I love you, Akio." Hikaru lets out a weary sigh. "Quite a few times I told myself I was a real idiot for letting myself fall in love with you... but I'm not. For all your boasting and bragging, you're honestly a much better person than you think. You're not nearly as cool as you think, trust me... but you're an amazing and loving person Akio. You mean so much to me."

"You mean a lot to me too, Hikaru."

Hikaru smiles. "Hey... do you still have that ring?"

You hastily pull the ring case out of your pocket. "Yeah, of course. I held onto it... it's a really expensive ring."

"Good..." Hikaru mutters. "Hold onto it a little longer. Because... when we're of age, and when we graduate... I think I'd like to marry you?"

Hearing that lights your soul on fire. "Really? Wouldn't I have to get your father's permission?"

Hikaru shrugs. "Yeah, but you've got almost two years to do it. I'm sure you'll wear him down eventually. It worked on me."

"Hikaru... I'm so happy to be back here with you."

"Me too..." Hikaru smiles. "Now, don't screw this up."

"Wouldn't dream of it."

It's all over... well, not the battle with the Darkworld. That's only just beginning. But your journey to become stronger, to become more powerful in order to protect those you care about... to become a better man, it's finally reached it's conclusion. You silently thanks Naoaki for all that he did for you, and hope that the stubborn old bastard managed to find some peace in his last moments. You hold Hikaru tight as the two of you stand on her porch. No matter what comes next. Whatever challenges stand in your way, it'll all be fine. You'll overcome.

Because you are Akio freakin' Naito, and you're back for good.

Thanks for playing! Unfortunately, I'm going to be very busy this week, which leaves me unable to run until next weekend. But next thread will be a rather large one, as we take part in the School Arts Festival event, so expect hijinks. Lots and lots of highjinks. Until then, I'll try to finish at least one of those many OVAs that's been left on the backburner for a long time now during the week.

Akio's back, with surely happy times ahead for him and Hikaru, but the real mystery lies in Miyoko. Who is this woman? What's her game? And what does she want Darkworld gems for?
>>
>>620977
It'll actually be Seishiro leaving to train with his sea-faring Aunt.

Yaaaaay!

Yaaaaaaaay!

Going to need that schedule booker!

>PQ
I am torn. She's either the leader of the Nishi/Utako/Tattoo group trying to collect stones to keep them away from Yami.

OR

She's one of the 12.

I am leaning towards the former as of right now.

Oh and great thread Book! Akio continues to be great.
>>
>>621004
Thanks for running. I am looking forward to the festival episode(s?)
>Player Question
She wants the tuna can.
Serious answer the demon girls who are not actually demons are probably a third party, they don't seem that evil but they will probably clash with the DGA students a lot until they get befriended... or killed.
>>
>>621004
Nah the real mystery is when Mountain man will make his heroic return, cause as we all know it's impossible for him to have actually died.
>>
>>621004
>>Player Question
She's probably working with Io to gather up magic minerals to sell to Kaz for more power ups. I'm definitely 100% serious with this guess.
Or she could just be another member or the leader of Nishi and friends. But that's just my back up choice, I have little to no faith it's actually true.
Thanks for running Booker, it was pretty fun playing Akio and I'm looking forward to the next episode for all those festival shenanigans.
