>Information

This quest takes place long before the events of The Last Airbender. Long before Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, or Yangchen. You play as a young Earthbender from a small village in one of the many Kingdoms scattered across the main continent. As a powerful villain strives to dominate the world, you will be forced to make choices that can stop it, aid it, or have no effect whatsoever.

>Rules

After each update I make, there will be a voting period of ten minutes. Once ten minutes have passed, whatever option has the most support will be the winner.

Write-ins are accepted, but only when specified If you see a write-in option, suggest whatever you like. If not, choose from the options I have provided.

Sometimes, rolls will be required. I will assign them, and they will operate under a d100 system. You will have three chances, and if one of the rolls succeeds, you pass. There are no crits, but I do take into account how much you succeed or fail by.

I reserve the right to veto certain write-ins, but will try to avoid doing so.

I hope you all have fun

Your first day wandering the great plains leading to the mountains is relatively peaceful, and quite enjoyable. The three of you take in the myriad of sights and sounds; from the multi-colored birds above calling out to one another, to boar-q-pines shrieking at one another in challenge before engaging in savage battles, to the occasional Ostrich Horse racing through the grass, you find yourself mesmerized by all of the strange and beautiful new things.

Lantana seems just as enthralled, and has a joyous grin on her face through most of the day as she observes all of the interesting creatures. Oftentimes, she'll ask Mauya what a certain creature is, or what a sound the three of you hear somewhere off in the distance is coming from.

Mauya, for her part, seems to find all of this far less interesting than the two of you do. As she's stated previously, she's been to these plains on multiple occasions, so from her perspective, they aren't all that special. She seems amused by Lantana's constant questions, but has the decency to give answers and explanations without becoming sarcastic or condescending.

On this day, no animals attack you, no soldiers try to kill you, and no monsters appear out of nowhere to start eating people. You simply walk with the two young ladies, talking about the sights and sounds around you, and enjoying the peace.

When night falls, the three of you stop where you are, deciding to set up camp.

Lantana puts down her bedroll, and climbs into it without creating a tent for herself, seemingly intending to camp out under the stars.

Lantana may want to camp out under the night sky, but you'd prefer to have a roof over your head this evening. So, you use your Earthbending to raise a tent, making yourself a nice little bit of shelter.

"Not bad," Mauya comments, admiring your handiwork. "That seems like a useful trick."

"Do you want one?" you ask the Waterbender.

"Sure, sounds great," she tells you.

Nodding, you provide her with a tent just like yours, using your Earthbending to raise two stones at diagonal angles, having them meet at a point and forming a crude tent.

"Thanks," she says, taking her bedroll and heading for the makeshift tent.

She crawls inside, climbing into her bedroll and trying to go to sleep. Lantana lies on the ground with her hands under her head, staring up at the stars with a smile.

It's been a long day, and you're absolutely exhausted. Your body pleads for you to let it get some rest. Despite this, you decide to take a moment to sit beside Lantana, who spares a quick glance before looking back up at the stars.

"Isn't it great?" she asks, staring up at the night sky. "In the woods, it's hard to just watch the stars like this. The trees can make it hard to see anything above you, and even if they don't, they block a lot of the other stars. But out here, you can see them all."

Gazing up at the sky, you have to admit that she's right. The view of the night sky is much fuller out here without anything to block out the countless stars shining above you. The sheer number of them is breathtaking, and you have to agree that it's an incredible view.

"Sei, thanks," Lantana tells you.

Taking your eyes off the sky, you look at her questioningly.

"I've been by myself for the last year," she reminds you, continuing to stare at the sky. "When I stopped at a village, I was never there for long, and the people I met...well, that didn't usually end well. I had to take care of everything on my own, and spend my time alone."

She looks at you for a moment, offering a warm smile. "Now, I'm not a lone, and I have someone to help me with all of this. So, thank you."

You tell Lantana that she's welcome, and realize that if you don't go to your tent now, you're probably going to pass out in the grass next to her. Wishing her goodnight, you get yourself up and make your way to your tent, falling asleep the second you lie down.

The next morning, you awake with a yawn, sitting up in your tent and climbing out into the light. As you rise to your feet, you look around for the others, but find Lantana's bedroll lying empty where she slept the previous night.

Her bag is right where she left it, and doesn't seem to have been disturbed in any way. You look toward Mauya's tent, but can't see whether she's in there or not.

There's no need for concern, right? Lantana's just gone out to get some water, or relieve herself. Convinced that everything's fine, you decide to just relax, maybe get some of your rations out for breakfast.

As you step away from your tent, you don't bother checking on Mauya's tent, or even taking much of a look at your surroundings. Approaching your bag, you hear nothing, and see nothing before something strikes you on the back of the head, causing you to fall forward as your vision gives way to blackness.

When your sight and consciousness return, you're standing, with your arms bound at your sides and your legs bound together. Attempting to move your body reveals that you've also been bound to some sort of large object, probably a pole. As you look around, you see Lantana bound to your right, and Mauya bound to your left, each of them tied to a pole with their arms and legs restrained.

It's only then that you actually realize that there are several people standing in front of you; thin figures, mostly wearing armor, though a few wear robes or plain clothes. You quickly notice that all of them appear to be female, save a few young boys watching from afar, and some elderly men who also seem to be keeping their distance.

You're in a village, and you're a prisoner.

Looking around, you ask the two girls if they're alright.

"I'm fine," Lantana tells you, glaring toward your captors.

"Just peachy," Mauya snaps, doing the same.

"You know, attacking random travelers from behind and tying them up is very rude," you comment.

"Shut up!" a girl with a sword shouts, stepping forward and pointing the weapon toward your throat.

"Sansha, step back," a woman of older age but similar appearance orders, approaching you and your friends.

The younger girl relents, putting her sword away and inclining her head as she slowly steps back. "Yes, mother."

The woman before you isn't much older than your own. In her youth, she must have been quite beautiful; she's thin, with long, black hair, and deep brown eyes that seem to radiate a deep sort of inner strength. She has no weapon drawn, but like the other girl, she has a sword sheathed at her waist.

"Why are we here?" Lantana finally asks. "Are you working for Jungo's army?"

The villagers react with a significant amount of shock and indignation at the question, telling you that they probably are no friends of the former warlord or his army.

"We are not," the woman before you assures your friend.

"Then why did you bring us here?" the Avatar questions.

"To be certain that you are not, either," the woman answers calmly.

"Wait, so you ambushed us and kidnapped us because you just assumed that the three of us were working for Jungo?" Mauya demands, furious. "Are you nuts?!"

"Watch how you speak to her!" Sansha demands, beginning to take a step forward before her mother raises a hand, silently instructing her daughter to stand down.

"We cannot be too careful," the woman explains. "We've heard that Lord Gonho's forces were defeated. The warlord's army could reach us at any time."

If these people really are enemies of Jungo, then you should have a chance at talking your way out of this. The first step in that is obvious; you tell them that you're enemies of Jungo.

"Enemies?" the woman asks. "That would imply that you've fought him before."

"I haven't," Mauya corrects. "But, these two have."

"I've been running from his army for the past year," Lantana explains. "I couldn't always outrun all of them, so I got into plenty of fights. I met Sei here right before the army got to his village. We escaped, and met Mauya at a village across the river."

"Then they are getting close," the woman sighs.

"Maybe not," you speak up. "Jungo's dead. That might slow them down a bit."

Excited and disbelieving chatter erupts throughout the crowd. Some people sound hopeful, or relieved, while others sound extremely skeptical.

The woman in front of you, for her part, seems willing enough to entertain the idea, but the look on her face tells you that she isn't just going to blindly believe you, either.

"And how do you know this?" she asks.

"Well, Lantana's the Avatar," you explain, tilting your head toward the girl in question.

The majority of the villagers either burst into laughter, or angrily tell you to stop making up stories. The woman in front of you, however, stares at you for a moment, her eyes looking into hers.

"I'll humor you," she declares. "If this girl is indeed the Avatar, she should be able to provide it."

There's a lot of chuckling from the other villagers now, who all seem to anticipate some entertainment at watching the girl try to sell this "lie".

"Untie her," the woman instructs.

A woman steps from the crowd and fulfills the order, approaching Lantana from behind and untying the ropes that bind her. The Avatar steps forward, rubbing some of the spaces where the ropes were particularly tight.

"Now, demonstrate your powers," the woman instructs, seeming to be the only one taking this little spectacle seriously.

"Well, I only know how to bend Earth and Water right now," Lantana explains.

"Show us some, Earthbending, then," the woman tells her.

Giving a nod, Lantana stomps on the ground, thrusting a fist upward and pulling a chunk of Earth up.

"Someone, fetch some water," the woman instructs.

Lantana drops the piece of Earth she's ripped up, looking nervously toward you and Mauya.

"Relax," the other girl tells her. "You can do this, no problem. You're almost as good at Waterbending as I am."

Lantana gives her a grateful smile, then turns toward the crowd as a young boy brings a bucket of water forward, setting it down in front of the Avatar. He steps back, and Lantana takes a deep breath.

You observed her and Mauya creating small currents with their Waterbendeing yesterday, but as Lantana bends water for the crowd, you're able to appreciate the differences between the two elements.

Where Earthbending is all about simple, strong motions that reflect the unmoving power of the Earth, Lantana's current motions are graceful and flowing, much like the water she rises from the bucket. It follows her fluid movements, snaking through the air in front of her before she directs it back into the bucket.

She lets out a breath, staring down into the bucket for a few moments before looking up at the villagers, who regard her with wonder and surprise.

"Untie her friends, now," the woman instructs.

Another woman goes to free Mauya, and Sansha approaches you, releasing you from your binds.

"Sorry," she tells you. "We didn't know who you three were."

"Next time, you should ask questions before kidnapping people," you tell her.

The girl looks embarrassed, but her mother comes to her defense.

"I'm to blame, not her," the woman tells you. "We've been a bit paranoid since the news of the battle reached us. I sent Sansha with a scouting party to look for anyone who seemed at all suspicious."

"And what made us so suspicious?" Mauya asks irritably, rubbing her wrists.

"We don't usually get too many people close to our village," Sansha explains. "Usually, when we see small groups of people around here, they're bandits or poachers."

"Poachers?" Lantana asks, looking toward the other girl.

"You probably saw a lot of animals roaming the plains," Sansha guesses. "Many kinds live around here. We hunt them for food, but sometimes, groups of people will come here from far away, capture dozens, or even hundreds of them, and then take them away to sell. Usually, they'll come here and start trouble while they're at it."

Lantana tilts her head to the side. "What kind of trouble?"

"They'll come here demanding food, water, weapons..." Sansha's mother lists off before frowning. "Female company, and they usually don't take no for an answer."

"We don't mind sharing food or water," Sansha clarifies. "But they demand a lot more than they need, so much so that, if we gave it to them, there wouldn't be enough for the rest of us."

"So, have they been giving you more trouble since the men left?" Lantana guesses.

Sansha's mom smiles, shaking her head. "No, that's not an issue. Every girl in this village is taught to fight."

Mauya's scowl turns into a look of surprise and interest. "Really?"

"My father-in-law believe it was important that everyone be able to defend themselves," Sansha's mom explains. "With so many awful people around, and Lord Gonho's forces nowhere to be found, we're on our own out here."

"Are any of you benders?" you ask.

"My husband is-was," Sansha's mom tells you. "He was the last in our village."

Sansha looks down. "But, we can still fight, even without bending."

Lantana gives her a nod. "I've seen plenty of warriors who were just as dangerous as any bender. Bending's just another weapon; it's how well you use it that matters."

Mauya rolls her eyes. "Right, because a sword definitely beats fire, or a giant boulder."

Sansha glares at the Waterbender, who doesn't seem to notice or care. Lantana puts a hand on Sansha's shoulder, speaking calmly in an effort to keep a fight from breaking out.

"Sorry, Mauya's had a long day," she tells Sansha. "She's not in a very good mood."

"Yeah, that happens when someone kidnaps you," Mauya tells her.

"What are you all going to do when Jungo's army comes?" you ask, trying to change the subject altogether.

"We'll fight," Sansha's mother answers. "We won't just sit back and let them take our village. We'll make sure they have a hard battle before they can take what's ours."

"You can't," Lantana tells her, turning away from Sansha. "The army is way too strong."

"We're warriors," Sansha's mom tells her. "We can't just stand passively by while some maniac takes our home."

"There's way too many of them," Lantana counters, desperation beginning to worm its way into her voice. You wonder how many times she's had this conversation. "You can't win."

"Maybe not," the woman admits. "But we can try. We can make them hurt."

"But, you'll die!" Lantana tells her.

The woman shrugs as if it's no big deal. "It's better to die on our feet than to live on our knees."

"That's just stupid," Mauya tells her, earning another glare from Sansha. "At least you're still alive if you give up or run away."

Sansha's mother turns toward Mauya, a probing look on her face. "Do you speak from experience."

You watch the Waterbender's hands involuntarily clench into fists, and Sansha's mother gives a knowing nod, not needing to say anything else to the younger female.

"Look, I get that you don't want to leave your home," Lantana tells her, sincerity and a great deal of concern in her voice as she steps toward Sansha's mother. "But if you stay and fight, you'll be killed, or worse. This is a fight you can't win. I've seen a lot of villages try, and it always ends the same."

"We aren't afraid to die," the woman tells the Avatar.

"You shouldn't be afraid to live, either," Lantana insists. "If you leave now, you may lose your home, you may lose everything but your lives, but you'll live to fight another day. And when that day comes, maybe you can take it all back. But, if you stay here, there won't be another day."

The woman stares at your friend, letting the words sink in for a moment. When she opens her mouth, you hope that Lantana's words have had an impact.

But, to your disappointment, that is not the case.

"We will not run," she declares. "We will stand and fight."

"They'll die if we stay," you tell her. "And there's a chance that we'll die, too. Then, who's going to stop the army?"

Lantana looks down, tears coming to her eyes. You remember how hopeless the situation was for your village when she stood and fought last time. Despite having failed to save countless villages before, she still risked her life to protect yours. Abandoning people in need doesn't seem to be something she's comfortable with, yet you know that there isn't any choice, and deep down, she knows it to.

"Alright..." she says, miserably. "We'll leave."

"Alright then, let's get going before the army shows up," Mauya says, looking around. "Where are our bags?"

Sansha points to a spot on the ground not far away, and Mauya goes to retrieve it as Lantana wipes away tears.

"Alright, then," the Avatar says. "Good luck, all of you. Fight well."

"We always do," Sansha's mom assures her.

"You know, before we leave, we could set up some walls and lay some pit-traps with Earthbending," you suggest.

That actually seems to lift Lantana's spirits just a bit, and she nods eagerly at the suggestion. So, the two of you get to work, erecting massive walls, digging deep pits, and laying some traps. The army will find this battle a bit more challenging than they'd anticipated.

Finally, the three of you set out from the village. You pull the map from your bag, looking it over and finding the village. It seems that your kidnapping brought your further north, and saved you a bit of walking.

"Well, at least something came out of what waste of time," Mauya comments.

"I wish we could have stayed," Lantana laments.

"And gotten killed over a bunch of morons who knocked us out and took us prisoner?" Mauya asks. "No thanks."

"It's my job to protect people," Lantana tells her.

"And how many people can you protect if you end up dead?" Mauya counters.

"But it doesn't feel right leaving people who need my help," she tells you, her voice trembling with emotion.

"Dying doesn't feel right to me," Mauya comments. "If we actually could have done anything, then sure, we should have stayed, but there's nothing wrong with not sticking around to die."

"Live to fight another day, right?"

Turning toward the voice behind you, you see Sansha approaching, a look of determination on her pretty face. She marches over to Lantana, staring into the other girl's eyes.

"Avatar, please let me come with you on your journey," she requests. "I might not be able to make a difference for my village by staying, but if I go with you, I have the chance to take it back, or at least avenge it."

"It's your decision," you tell Lantana.

"Yeah, you're the Avatar," Mauya agrees, though her tone tells you that she really hopes Lantana says no.

Lantana looks at the young warrior, a small smile appearing on her face.

"We'd be happy to have you," she tells Sansha.

The other girl grins widely. "Thank you so much! I won't let you down, I promise!"

Mauya looks anything but happy to have the new girl joining your group, but your personally think that it's a good idea. The journey is going to be dangerous, and having more people who know how to fight is always a good thing.

"So, where are we going?" the new member of your team asks.

"The Northern Air Temple," Lantana answers, pointing in the direction of your intended destination. "The Airbenders are the only ones who were able to turn back this army. Maybe with their teaching, and Airbending, I can be strong enough to stop it."

Sansha nods, seeming to agree with Lantana's logic. "I've never seen an Air Nomad before. I've heard that they're reclusive and peaceful, but very powerful."

Lantana nods. "That's what I've heard, but the one I met....peaceful doesn't describe her. But she was powerful."

"You met an Air Nomad?" Sansha asks with wonder, frowning when she sees the look on Lantana's face.

"Yes," the Avatar answers. "She was part of Jungo's army."

"All the more reason to learn Airbending," Mauya suggests. "Fight air with air."

"Yes, if you have the same skills as her, plus your Earthbending and Waterbending, you should be able to stop her," Sansha agrees.

"Then, the sooner we get to the Northern Air Temple, the sooner we can deal with her and the rest of that army," Lantana says. "So, let's get going."

The four of you continue North, the atmosphere of today's trek far less peaceful and joyous than yesterday's. The knowledge that Sansha's village will soon fall hangs over everyone's heads, and the fact that she and Mauya clearly don't like one another doesn't really help things.

There is a brief moment of levity as you attempt to practice your Earthbending on the go, picking up small pebbles and attempting to launch them with great force. The idea is to create a surprise attack that packs a punch. Unfortunately, putting that kind of power into a tiny stone is a lot easier said than done, and your attempts to do so range from failed to ridiculous, and you're finally forced to stop when you accidentally provoke a Boar-q-pine into attacking you.

On the upside, when the girls take it down, you've provided with dinner for the evening, as Sansha gets a fire started and everyone works to cook the beast.

That night, dinner is delicious.

Evolved Stone Bullet: Compress a larger stone down to the size of a regular stone bullet, then launch it at the same speed, hitting with more force over the same area

The larger the stone you compress, the more difficult it will be to launch the final product at bullet-like speed, but the higher it's penetrating power will be.

However, since there's more stone to actually bend in that compressed bullet, you may actually have higher control over it in flight, allowing you to curve the bullet.

"So, we keep going North through the mountains," Sansha sums up. "And the Air Temple will be right on the tip of the continent?"

"Yeah, the Air Nomads apparently put their temples as far in each cardinal direction as they could while staying on the mainland," Lantana confirms, lying down and patting her full belly. "So, it'll take us a while to get there, and getting through the mountains won't be easy."

"It wouldn't be fun if it were easy," Sansha declares, sounding excited for the difficult trip.

"So, are we going to keep going for a little while, or should we stop here for the night?" Mauya asks.

"It'll be dark soon," Sansha points out. "We won't make it far once the sun's down. So, we might as well just rest up for tonight and get an early start tomorrow."

"Works for me," Mauya comments, rising from her spot by the fire. "Lantana, can you make me a tent?"

The Avatar groans, having just gotten comfortable, but still gets up and creates a small tent with Earthbending.

"Thanks," Mauya tells her. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight," Lantana says back.

"You two should rest, too," Sansha suggests, looking between the two of you. "I'll take first watch."

"Do we need a lookout?" Lantana asks.

"Did you use a lookout last night?" Sansha asks, smirking.

"No..." Lantana tells her.

"Remember how well that went for you?" Sansha asks.

Lantana gives a laugh. "Good point. Alright, wake me when it's my turn."

Sansha nods, turning and looking toward the South, resting her hand on her sword as she begins her watch duties.

It probably won't be comfortable sitting up straight for the next few hours, so you pull a rock out of the ground for Sansha to lean on. The girl gives you a look of gratitude before leaning on the rock and resuming her watch.

With that settles, you approach Lantana, asking if she'll practice Earthbending with you.

"We only have a few hours to sleep," she points out. "But, I guess we do need to practice when we can."

She rolls over, then gets onto her knees, punching the ground with both fists. As you watch, Earth rises up to surround her arms and fists, covering them in rock. Lantana then picks herself up, turning toward you and taking a few steps back.

"Alright, I'll defend," she tells you. "Use whatever attacks you want against me."

Lantana begins moving immediately, avoiding staying in one spot so you can't drop her into any pits. You aren't sure what she plans to do as far as defense with those stone fists, but you do know that, if she decided to hit you with them, they'd hurt a lot.

But, you don't plan to drop her in any pits, and you don't plan to get in close. What you plan to do is give the Stone Bullet another try. So, you lift another stone, holding it in your hand and slowly levitating it above your palm.

"That again?" Lantana asks, dancing around. "What are you even trying to do?"

You explain to her that, by putting the same amount of force into this that you would a larger rock, you should be able to deal a lot of damage.

"Alright, then," Lantana says, getting into a defensive stance and raising a stone-covered arm. "Show me what you've got."

Focusing, you hurl the stone with all of your power, and hear the sound of rock smashing against rock, and see chips of Lantana's stone fly from her arm. Her eyes widen, and she looks down, surprised.

"You weren't kidding, that would have left a nasty welt if I didn't have armor," she tells you. "That could make a good sneak attack, nice work."

When you're shaken awake several hours later, your eyes open to the sight of Lantana kneeling over you, her eyes tired, and her voice soft when she speaks.

"It's your turn to keep watch," she tells you sleepily. "Wake Mauya in a few hours."

Lantana retreats from your tent, turning and slowly moving toward her own. You're sure she'll fall asleep the second she hits the ground, just as you did. As you crawl from your tent and look around, you see that the other girls are sleeping soundly. The fire has long since gone out, leaving only the moon and the stars to provide you with light.

It's your turn to keep watch; what should you do?

There's plenty of time to kill, so you might as well make the most of it and get some Earthbending practice. You've been getting better over the last few days, but you're going to need to keep improving if you want to be useful in stopping this army.

Lantana's Stone Fists were pretty impressive. Last time you tried, you weren't able to properly make use of the technique, but now you've got a few hours to work at it. So, it's worth a shot.

For the nest few hours, you practice the technique you saw Lantana use, and finally, you manage to get it perfect. You slam your fists against the ground, and coat your arms in rock, making your punches far more devastating, and giving you an extra layer of defense on your arms.

As you prepare to remove the stone from your arms, you hear a hiss to your left. Turning toward it, you see a jet of fire heading right for you. You raise your rock-covered arms, saving yourself from being scorched. Lowering them, you hear laughter.

A man with short, black hair, brown eyes, and a funny looking bear approaches you. He's wearing armor that marks him as one of Jungo's former men, and accompanied by nearly a dozen other armored individuals.

"Well, a young Earthbender camping out in the middle of the wilderness," the Firebender observes. "Seemingly travelling with others. Would I be correct in assuming that you have three companions? A Waterbender, a young woman from a recently conquered village, and the Avatar."

"No, you wouldn't," you tell the man. "Who are you"

"My identity is not what's important right now," the man answers smugly. "What is important is that you very much match the description of the young Earthbender who killed Warlord Jungo. Quite an impressive accomplishment, my young friend. Unfortunately, that also means Jungo's replacement wants you dead."

The man hurls another blast of fire your way, but you quickly pull up a wall of Earth to stop the attack.

"Guys!" you shout to the others.

Sansha's the first to respond, emerging from her tent with her sword drawn. She quickly rushes to your side, turning her back to the wall in order to watch for anyone who tries to come around it.

"You want to do things the hard way, then?" you hear the Firebender ask. "Very well, Shing!"

The wall separating you from your foes is quickly torn down, and you get the feeling that a large, bald man with a scar on his head is the one responsible, judging by the way he grins at you.

"Well, that's one woman accounted for," the Firebender observes as Sansha turns to face him. "And, given how closely she resembles the woman who attempted to drive us away from that village to the South, it would seem my previous guess was quite accurate. That just leaves the Waterbender, and....."

Lantana's tent is ripped asunder, pulled apart into two large, rectangular pieces of Earth, which are then thrown right at the Firebender's head. The man leaps and rolls out of the way of the stones, smiling as he ends up in a crouch.

"The Avatar."

"Oh, this should be fun," the bald man says, stepping forward. "I've always wanted to take a crack at someone like her. You're supposed to be the master of all four elements, Avatar. Let's see how your Earthbending compares to mine!"

"We're supposed to bring her in alive, if possible," the Firebender reminds the large man.

"I won't kill her," the bald Earthbender promises, slamming his fists together. "Just break her."

"So, who's in charge with Jungo dead?" you ask. "That Airbender girl?"

The Firebender chuckles. "Good guess. Yes, the Warlord's right hand has taken command of the army. And now, things are going to be quite different. Under her leadership, we'll soon claim the entire continent. And then, who knows?"

"Not if we have anything to say about it!" Lantana declares, stepping forward.

"Yes, Kalana suspected you would feel that way," the Firebender tells you. "That's why she sent us. Shing, if you would."

The bald man begins to step toward Lantana, but you quickly put yourself between the two of them, challenging the larger man to fight you instead.

Shing laughs, glancing back at the Firebender. "What do you say, boss? You take the Avatar, I take the Earthbender that killed Jungo."

"Very well, that sounds like a fair trade to me," the Firebender answers, gesturing to his men, who begin to surround the three of you.

"Not really," you whisper back, focusing on Sansha's rock. Shing watches you closely, raising an eyebrow in curiosity as you pull off a chunk the size of a pebble. "Are you sure you can handle the rest?"

"Not really," Lantana answers honestly.

It's not a very good situation. There are at least two benders against you, and ten other fighters of unknown ability. They have you surrounded, and seem to be confident enough to have one of their strongest people play with you alone while the others deal with your friends, including the Avatar.

"We can take 'em," Sansha assures the both of you. "Just aim for their faces, or the weaknesses in their armor."

"Like where?" Lantana asks, looking around at the soldiers.

"Their armpits, for one," Sansha tells her. "Not to mention their feet. Get some hits in there, you can throw them off their game no problem."

"So, little man," Shing addresses you, slowly beginning to approach. "Have you said your goodbyes? Can we get this started?"

His stance is powerful; he makes himself as unmovable as a mountain. And with his towering figure, he looks like a mountain before you. He's solid and powerful, an embodiment of strength. But, every person has a weakness, and men have a very specific one that even a big guy like him won't be without.

Taking aim, you launch the pebble, but not at his head or his face. Instead, you aim for the place most men dread being hit in above all others, and send the pebble flying right between his legs.

Shing's eyes bulge as the pebble hits its mark, and his hands fly down between his legs. He drops to his knees, tears forming in his eyes as his entire body trembles with pain.

"Wow," Sansha remarks. "Stone cold."

Lantana throws back her head, laughing, and the Firebender loudly orders his men to attack before firing a jet of flame toward the Avatar. Lantana ducks beneath the attack, pulling up a rock and kicking it toward the Firebender, who nimbly moves out of the way before attacking again.

Meanwhile, Sansha rushes toward the oncoming soldiers, ducking beneath a horizontal slash of a sword before stabbing up with her own and impaling the soldier, the blade entering his head chin and coming out the top of his head. She catches the man's weapon as he releases it, and turns her attention to the other warriors.

Shing, meanwhile, begins to growl with unbridled fury, and removes his right hand from his crotch, clenching it into a fist and punching the ground in front of him. As you watch, Earth rises to not only coat his fists, but his entire body, creating a rock armor that covers him completely, save a small hole for his eyes.

"I will break you!" he promises, charging forward.

Your opponent has surrounded himself in rock, making damaging him with most attacks very difficult. But, he's fighting an Earthbender, so covering himself in Earth is probably not a very wise idea.

You step forward, attempting to crush him with the rock that covers his entire body, and you immediately feel the stone beginning to respond to your commands. However, Shing notices as well, and quickly pushes the rock off of his body, rising it above his head in chunks, and preparing to hurl it at you.

But, before he can strike, a jet of water hits him in the face, catching him off-guard and throwing him onto the ground. You look behind yourself to see Mauya approaching, a grim expression on her face.

"That was all my water," she warns, crouching beside a fallen soldier and picking up his dagger. "So, I won't be much more help in this fight. Sorry."

Shing gets back up, glaring toward the young Waterbender.

"You want to play, little girl?" he asks. "Fine, I'll kill you both!"

He rips a massive chunk of Earth from the ground, hurling it toward you and Mauya.

You need to avoid that attack at any cost. Quickly, you wrap your arm around Mauya, pulling her against you and readying yourself to move.

"What are you doing?!" the girl demands, beginning to squirm against your grip.

Ignoring her, you wait for the boulder to begin its descent toward the two of you. Once it reaches the proper position, you launch yourself and Mauya from the ground, leaping over the projectile and landing safely on the ground as it goes on to smash one of the soldiers Sansha is fighting.

The warrior girl spares a glance toward the boulder, shrugging at her good fortune before returning her focus to her other opponent.

Letting go of Mauya, you look toward your enraged opponent, who begins to raise another rock to attack you with.

Reacting quickly, you use your Earthbending to manipulate the ground beneath Shing's feet, causing his legs to spread further apart and throwing him off of his balance. He falls forward, and the boulder above his head falls down toward him. He tries to roll out of the way, but the boulder lands on top of his left leg, crushing it utterly.

Shing howls in pain, punching the boulder and shattering it into pieces.

"Wow, you really crushed him," Sansha comments, coming to stand beside you.

She's covered in sweat, and her blade is quite bloody, but she seems unharmed. Apparently she was strong enough to deal with those soldiers on her own.

"Must you insist on doing that?" Mauya asks irritably.

"Doing what?" Sansha asks innocently, looking toward the other girl.

It's time to finish this bald bastard once and for all. Stepping toward him, you rip up a large chunk of rock, which you quickly move to hold over his head. Shing stares up at it for a moment, then turns his head to stare at you.

There's no fear in hi, in fact, he looks impatient.

"Do it," he tells you. "I've failed."

That's all the encouragement you need, and you ready yourself to finish the broken bender off, but Sansha puts a hand on your shoulder, shaking her head.

"Hold on a second," she tells you. "We should get whatever information we can from at least one of them before we kill them all."

"And you didn't leave any of the weaker soldiers alive?" Mauya questions.

"Sorry, I was aiming to kill, not wound," Sansha tells her. "I like to end my fights decisively."

"Well then, what about the bender Lantana's fighting?" Mauya suggests. "She seems to have the fight pretty well under control."

Sansha might have a point. If Lantana kills the Firebender, and you kill Shing, then you could be throwing away a good chance to get some valuable information. Moving the boulder away from Shing, you drop it on the ground beside him.

Before he has the chance to move against you, or make any sort of attempt to attack or escape, you coat his arms and legs in Earth, keeping him pinned to the ground and unable to move a muscle. Once that's done, you turn your attention to Lantana.

Mauya's right; Lantana's got this.

She's completely armored in rock, just like Shing was. And, that technique seems to be of much greater use against a Firebender than it is against an Earthbender. The Avatar nimbly dodges and blocks various blasts of flame using her Earthbending, ripping up a rock and kicking it toward the Firebender, who ducks beneath it and jumps, kicking a powerful fire blast at the girl, who launches herself over the blast, and over him, using her Earthbending. As she lands behind him, she turns and kicks a chunk of rock at the back of his legs, throwing them out from under him and causing him to fall painfully onto his back.

Quickly rolling over to his knees, he thrusts both fists toward Lantana, trying to burn through her armor with another attack, but Lantana quickly spins out of the way, quickly rising rock up to cover his hands, binding them together and casing them in stone, leaving him unable to attack, at least for the moment.

"Nice moves," Sansha comments.

"We should question him," you tell Lantana.

The Avatar gives you a nod, encasing the Firebender's legs in stone next, immobilizing him completely. She drops her armor away, and confidently strolls toward the defeated man, towering over him and staring down with a serious expression.

"Alright, how did you find us?" she demands.

The man doesn't immediately answer. Instead, he chuckles to himself, raising his head to look up at the girl.

"Isn't it obvious?" he questions. "We captured a few people from that village. It wasn't hard to make them talk."

"What did you do to them?!" Sansha growls, starting toward the man and looking ready to stab him.

"Hold on, Sansha," Lantana gently instructs the other girl. "So, you tortured them into telling you which way we went. Why did so few of you come?"

"Kalana wanted the army focused on Gonho's capital city," the Firebender answers. "She wants him dealt with before he can put together an army of refugees, or get help from one of the other kingdoms. Of course, now that we've failed, your situation just got even worse."

"What do you mean?" Lantana inquires.

The man grins in a way that makes you question his sanity.

"Well, there's two possibilities," he explains, sounding delighted by both of them. "Either Kalana will come after you herself, or, more likely, she'll send the hunter."

"The hunter?" Mauya asks, sounding completely unimpressed.

"Yes, an Earthbender so mighty even Jungo feared him," the man explains, struggling to hold back laughter. "None of you will stand a chance against him."

I would suggest we change directions, since they know where we're going now, we should go to the other air temple instead.

As a bit of redirection, even travel that direction for a day and set up camp before continuing in our real direction.

And perhaps we should consider creating an underground cave to spend the night in from now on, sealing the exit until morning.
It's nice and warm past a few feet underground anyways, so we won't even need a fire.

You feel the urge to comment that Jungo and Shing both thought that Lantana and yourself were no match for them, but then again, this guy mentioned that even Jungo feared the person he's talking about.

"We beat Jungo, and we beat your friend over there," Lantana tells the Firebender, giving voice to your thoughts. "If we work together, we can deal with whoever Kalana sends."

The man laughs, making it clear just how highly he thinks of this hunter's skills. He may have been confident in his ability to win this battle, but this is something else altogether. He seems to take the suggestion of your ability to stop this hunter as if you told him you could fight a volcano.

"You've never fought anyone like him," the Firebender assures Lantana. "He's unstoppable. In fact, some say he's not even human. Avatar or not, you won't beat him."

"We'll see about that," Sansha tells him bitterly.

"Ah, you're just like the others from your village," the Firebender tells her. "Full of fire and foolishness. You'll die just as pathetically as they did."

Sansha rushes toward the man, raising her sword.

This is not something for you to interfere in. It's not your village this man took part in wiping out, and you aren't in charge of this team. If anyone has the right to interfere, it's Lantana, but she doesn't seem inclined to do so, either. She steps back and turns her head away, closing her eyes and letting Sansha do what she needs to do.

Mauya turns away from it, but the expression on her face tells you that she isn't holding this against Sansha.

The girl stabs downward, her blade entering the man's body between his shoulderblades and passing out the other end. It's a fatal strike, but she doesn't stop there. She pulls her blade free and stabs again, and again, and again, then starts hacking, and slashing, crying out with grief and rage each time, until finally, she drops the weapon and collapses to her knees, burying her face in her hands and beginning to sob.

You want to do something to comfort Sansha, but you really don't know how. You don't fully understand what she's feeling. Your mother is alive, and you don't know your father's fate. She's just been told flat-out that her mother was killed, probably after being tortured. There isn't much you can say or do for that.

But, maybe killing another of the people involved with what happened to her mother is a step in the right direction. Without another word, you use your Earthbending to life the boulder beside Shin, and drop it on his head.

Everyone's silent, save Sansha, who continues to sob with grief. The sun begins to rise, casting new light and warmth onto the scene, but somehow, you don't feel any warmer, and things don't exactly seem bright.

We should work on improving the stone bullet.
First off, we need to keep a sack of bullets on us at all times, so we can bend them without any lead-up.

Second, we should shape the stone, instead of just using plain pebbles, we should be using balls or sharp shapes like elongated diamonds that allow for piercing.

Further, compressing the stone down to increase it's density will allow it fly straighter and do more damage on impact.

And of course, we need regular ol' practice, so that we can fire them at higher and higher speeds.

I have a bit of an idea as to how we can use stone bullet and stone fist at the same time.
We could just use the index finger of the armor on stone fists as a bullet.
We could even put a ton of spin on it before firing for extra penetration.

Putting spin on it only adds stabilization during flight, not extra penetration.
We can already control it to some degree during flight, since we're bending it in midair to begin with.

Adding rotation would just be wasting energy that would better be spend speeding it up.

The energy of it's spin still has to come from somewhere.
In that case, it'd gain rotation by losing forward speed as it bites into the air.

You're still just slowing down the bullet to make it turn.
Again, it doesn't need to rotate, we can control it's flight path directly.

That's not fair. Our universe needs a good, strong God of Suplexes, and Tofoo would be perfect.

Stone is hard, if it's going fast enough to penetrate their body, it'll already shatter on impact.
It won't mushroom out like metal, but rather it'd fracture into smaller pieces, probably with similar effect to a wax shotgun slug, which breaks apart on impact, delivering all of it's energy at efficiently at once.

He's already a well-respected, eternally-young-looking martial arts master who has saved the world several times, and is part of the richest family on the planet

Then again, Ganta is kind of a pussy.

But his son is a disappointment
>>623203
Sadly you aren't wrong. Pussy Mc's are the worst

>>623211
He's one

And he's already a hueg disappointment. Throw it away and do it again

Vegeta, please

He was right in that regard. Bulma is a terrible parent in the way she raises children. Awful fighters, semi-productive members of society but awful fighters

If Tofoo has any say, that boy is living up to his damn potential.

>Earthbending is one of the most diverse of the bending arts [...] Earthbending differs from the other bending arts in that it maintains a distinct balance between offensive and defensive capabilities. Earthbending uses a balance of strength and defense to overwhelm opponents.

>The principle of jing is the essence of battle strategy of all bending arts, with a total of eighty-five possible actions. Positive jing occurs when one chooses to fight, while negative jing is when one chooses to evade. The earthbending discipline stresses neutral jing, which involves listening, waiting and attacking at the right moment

So I've been thinking, if we learned to sand bend, would it be possible to change it to glass? Sorta like how water benders change water to ice. If we could, it'd be be devestating if combined with the bullet

>a storm of glass shards

truly, the next evolution of war crimes.
>>
>>628548
I would be surprised. Modern glass isn't just any old sand and heat, it's silica sand, which I imagine you would have a very hard time separating from the rest of the beach- desert- whatever. Even if you don't care about making good glass and just want to throw funky shards of green tinted stuff at people, sand has to pass 3,200 F (1760 C) before it becomes molten.

We should totally team attack with a fire bender though.
>>
>>628679
We could likely produce quartz shards by ourselves before going to the point of glass/obsidian

>1760 C
That temperature is for chemically pure silica -->Fused quartz. For Soda-lime-silica glass (window glass), it's 500-600 C, which shouldn't be too hard to attain (A campfire goes on average at 850 C), while for glassmaking in Ancient Egypt, a savant mix of quartz and plant ash was heated at about 750 C. In those cases, we're talking about utilitary glass (windows, containers, art), not scrap to be thrown at people.
