‘I think that before anything else… we’ll have to discuss things with the Admiral.’ You declare, deciding it would be the best course of action to undertake first. ‘Attendant, would you mind setting an appointment with him?’

The lanky attendant salutes, breaking into a sprint down the hall and out.

‘Do we want to do the others, sir?’

Your bulky attendant does bring up a good point. You could multi-task it, but

‘If he says no, then it’d be useless. I said I’d sort out the paperwork… but if I do everything else before I even ask him, he’s going to kick my behind all over the place.’ Taking the last few days into consideration, you didn’t want to step into anyone’s toes. ‘There’s a saying… it’s better to ask for permission than to have to beg for forgiveness after.’

It’s about half an hour later when the sound of the door slamming reaches your ears. The Admiral had arrived.

‘Admiral!’ You and your attendant raise yourself into twin salutes.

Striding over, decked in full uniform, the Admiral doesn’t look like he was in the mood for idle chatter. There was irritation in his expression… and you had the inclination to guess that you had something to do with it. He walks right up to you, boring into your eyes. You try not to falter; the manager looked smug enough as it was.

‘Commander, I thought I’d seen the worst when I had to overlook a transfer detail from the Court of Admiral.’ You wince – you’d forgotten about that little detail. ‘But wanting me to sign off on a pop singer on the premises? This is a war zone, kid, not a damn hotel!’

‘Sir, if – !’

Not a word, Commander.’

LEIA tries her luck.

‘Admiral, if you would – ?’

‘Young lady, I am too tired and too old for that lip.’ ‘Sit down.’

‘Yes, sir.’ She timidly replies.

‘Kid,’ he turns back to you, ‘send them on their way.’

>>614149
>>614156
You have to know the Admiral's personality and how you stand with him. Convince him through reason, logic, emotion and argument as to why she should stay. Reading through his past dealings with you and the Admiralty, as well as other crews, what do you think his angle is? What kind of person do you think?

Is he a professional, rough type more than a business man? Is her personal and forgiving? You can pick any of the 3 angles in the next few prompts, but you have to know him from as accurate an angle as possible. He might be 100 percent Personal, 50 percent Business 30 percent Professional 20 Percent or 60 percent Personal 20 percent Business 20 percent Professional.

YOU MAY REFER TO ME FOR HINTS as this is still an experimental mini-game system.

Still choosing this because he's irritated at us, says doesn't want civilians in a warzone, and has called us a bit of a pushover before. And his more personal side isn't gonna come out in front of civilians, so yeah, let's look pragmatic.
>>
>>614169
Since he's a career soldier, I feel like he has a very strong professional streak, though we've seen that he's also got a very personal, protective view of his subordinates. Still, LEIA isn't his subordinate yet, so I feel like the professional angle would work better at the moment.

You have - the Acting Mayor. He showed a professional decorum and had it out for you when you marched out until you started the waifu wars... which, actually, had him break into an all-out melee with the populace. So, this suggests-

He's highly professional... but not so much that he's above it all. He might have more in common with the low man than the high-rises.

‘I think that she’s able as any of us, sir, if I may be blunt.’

The Admiral rounds on you; you can barely keep it together. You had seen him this angry before once – and you’re not sure that you were willing to… get in front of the bulldozer that was his rage. He exerted a sort of pressure on you, one of authority and experience – and you feel very much small in comparison to him, despite being…

Oh, you lost weight. How wonderful.

‘Don’t take my looseness with your demeanor as an invitation to take a step, Commander.’ He shakes you from your reverie with a dangerous tone, making you gather yourself. You couldn’t afford to turn into a blubbering mess anymore than you already had.

‘I wouldn’t dream of it, sir, but,’ you stand firm, fixing his glare with an earnest gaze. ‘I think that she should be given the chance to serve the cause as much as you or I do. In layman’s terms, I think she should have the right to pay back what she thinks she owes.’

‘You’re saying she has use.’

You shake your head. You hadn’t meant it like that.

‘I’m saying that she’s as able to contribute to the war effort as much as anyone else has.’ You insist – he doesn’t budge… but you do see that his glare softens. ‘You told me yourself, sir, that we need as many hands as we can on deck,’ he grunts, prompting you to revise your approach, ‘in so many words. I think that she’s able to bring things to the table that we’re not able to ourselves. We’re not in the state to turn down any help – and I wouldn’t have brought this to your attention if I didn’t respect you enough to think that you wouldn’t be able to delegate it better than I would. I respect you too much to go behind your back, sir.’

‘It’s good to see you’re honest.’ He crosses his arms, his mustache bristling. ‘Are you even aware of what she brings to the table?’

‘She has two able hands and a boatload of charisma.’ You answer with confidence. ‘I have two staff members who can endorse her personally.’

‘Sh – She’s – !’ the bulky attendant steps up, his face uncharacteristically serious. ‘She – !’

LEIA immediately steps in, saluting… wrongly, but the effort is there.

‘I’m able and willing, sir!’ She declares, much to the chagrin of her manager. ‘If you’re willing to have me, I’m willing to serve like all the grunts out there. Whatever you need, I can give.’

She stumbles slightly, turning red – she gives a quick glance to your bulky attendant.

‘Well… not whatever. But a lot!’ She insists.

The Admiral sighs, giving you a look.

YOU MAY HAVE PERSUADED HIM A LITTLE

MECH, has the Admiral ever expressed any care for what the public thinks?
>>
>>614407
Nope. He doesn't care for what people think... but he has shown an annoyance at how narrow-minded people are when it comes to the KanMusu. His concern is with his Base and the defense of the realm, and he has shown to look fondly on his personal life and share his experiences with you a few times.

‘Besides… I think that we all have the right to make our own choice when it comes to this sort of thing.’ You press on, not willing to let go of the small momentum you’d garnered. ‘I think that she should have the right to make her own decision.’

LEIA’s eyes widen, her cheeks slightly red.

‘Sir, I think you understand. She’s already said that she’s willing to do whatever it is that we need from her.’ You repeat, squaring up to the Admiral. ‘You know that much.’

‘Being willing isn’t the same as being able!’ He grunts out – but you there’re small cracks in his voice. He doesn’t falter – not at all – but you can tell that he’s vesting too much emotion in it.

‘Wouldn’t it be worth it if it could make a difference, however, small?’ You argue, taking a firm stance. ‘You took a chance on me, sir, I think that we’re able to do as much as take a chance on her.’ You look to LEIA, then to the manager… then to your two attendants, strengthening your resolve. ‘If she wants to, we should at least be able to give her the courtesy of an opportunity to do good. We didn’t join this war with the idea to turn our backs on the people who’re willing to put themselves on the line when others aren’t.’ You slump slightly… you must’ve jumped through a few regulation barriers in the last five minutes. ‘I’m sorry if this sounds out of line, sir, but I’m afraid that I have to insist.’

‘Not afraid of a left hook this time?’ He raises an eyebrow at you.

‘From you, sir? Every single day of the week.’ You don’t miss a beat.

Again, you look to LEIA, giving her an assuring nod.

‘But she’s willing to give it her all – she’s stepping into this knowing that she might be turned into Abyssal chowder.’

‘WAIT, WHAT?!’

All of you look at her. You feel it… that small sliver of belief, crumbling.

‘We’re on the front lines.’ The Admiral answers crisply. ‘As far as the battlefield holds, anyway.’ She goes a little bit paler at the last word. ‘You did know about this?’

‘Um…’

You turn purple as everything around you seems to crumble…

‘I didn’t.’ She confesses, biting her lip… before staring right at the Admiral. ‘But that doesn’t change that I feel! Sir, I know I may not look the part… and frankly, considering present company… I’m not sure if I want to look it.’

Oh, she’s just trying to get a rise out of you now.

Oi.’

‘But that doesn’t mean that I’m any less capable. You need a nurse; you need a hand on the KanMusu, I’m ready and able… Hell, if you need a lounge singer, I’ll…’ She twiddles her thumbs. ‘d – do you need a lounge singer?’

The Admiral gives her a look... and bursts into laughter.

‘You heard her, sir.’ You give LEIA and your attendants a small smile – your lanky attendant even gives you a thumbs-up.

‘Yes, I have. That still doesn’t answer the question of just what we can get out of her.’

‘Admiral, sir, I think that in the run of things, that question is irrelevant.’

You really hope he doesn’t sock you one right now. You’d sounded downright insubordinate with that last statement – you’d give yourself a hit to a jaw if someone had talked to you like that.

‘Do you now?’

‘Well… not irrelevant, but I think that… well, given that she’s at least prepared to face the consequences, wouldn’t it be unfair of us to not take a chance, sir?’

‘You do realize that you were only given the job because everyone else we could get into a RAY bit the dust?’

Oh, he could get personal too.

Although, by the wrinkles on his face… he doesn’t quite mean it.

‘I never counted your amicability to have any weight in this, sir,’ he snorts, much to your chagrin, ‘I do however think that it’s not easy to earn it either. If anyone’s able to do the good you think they’re capable of… whether they have the skill or the will, they should at least have the courtesy to be given the opportunity. We’re nothing if we’re not at least stubborn holders in self-confidence.’

‘Appealing to my humor doesn’t do you any favors, Commander.’ He says flatly.

‘Then what about what you believe in?’ You honestly don’t know if you’re crossing a line here; but still, if there was a chance that he would be able to see things your way, you had to take it. ‘She’s not trying to stomp her way into a job – Admiral, we’re surrounded by people who think we’re no worse than who we fight. For goodness sakes, they thought the Yakuza were a preferable option to having our MPs patrol the city.’

‘Here we have someone who actually sought us out and believes in our fight.’ You gesture to her – you wonder if you sounded a little preachy at this point. ‘I can’t tell myself I’m not willing to at least give her the benefit of the doubt without calling myself a hypocrite.’

The Admiral’s shoulders slump.

‘This isn’t a sing and dance audition.’ He sighs, wavering slightly.

‘I know it isn’t, Admiral, sir,’ LEIA steps in, her lips thinned into a line… and she does look very much intimidated by him, still, ‘but if you’re telling me to sing and dance in cities inland and pretend that it’s all fine out here… then I would like to… respectfully question your judgment.’

He grunts, crossing his arms.

The Admiralty doesn't get their money through war bonds. They're private and operate on direct funding - however, since the unofficial split from the League of Nations, they've had to resort to other means of fund raising.

‘The people will like her.’ You point out, confident. ‘A few shows once in a while… it’ll be good for our image.’

‘That’s just dandy, isn’t it?’ He gives you a look – not one of anger, but one of disdain. ‘A small tune and a tapping toe – do you think that those are the kind of things I care for right now?’

‘But if we – ?’

He straightens his shoulders. You immediately keep quiet, not willing to risk his further ire.

‘Commander, does it look like I’m concerned on whether a 19 year-old girl can sing and dance?’ He bites out. ‘This isn’t The Gambling Lights and it most certainly isn’t The Showstopper of the South – we operate under a strict protocol. My job isn’t to care for what I can give to keep the masses happy – my job is to do what it takes to keep them alive.’

‘We don’t lose anything trying to reach out to people.’ You try to reason. ‘Maybe they’ll even start supporting us again.’

His face contorts – it’s as though you had suggested to him that you could fuel fire with water.

That is none of my concern.’ He raises a finger. ‘Nor should it be yours.’

You try to press your point, despite the protests echoing from the back of your head.

‘The MPs face scrutiny as they take their patrols, sir. It would be a good move to – !’

‘The MPs will always face scrutiny.’ He says, incredulous. ‘People don’t like authority – they like to know that they’re in charge even if it’s not even in their hands anymore. I took an oath to keep humanity safe, and as long as there are people to protect, that is where my concerns with them will be. To keep them safe and to keep the KanMusu under me alive. You’re telling me I should care about whether a lady in a halter top should keep them happy?’

LEIA jumps in, looking a little offended at the insinuation.

‘What does that have to do with anything?’

‘I’m running a military operation.’ He answers simply, hands behind his back and shoulders broad. ‘If I was worried about how people looked at me, I’d be a quivering mass.’ ‘I’m here to operate on the basis that every action I take may be the last that my KanMusu take.’ You find yourself agreeing – he did have other things that needed his attentions. ‘If a song and dance routine is what you’re trying pull here so the populace can get themselves on our side, you’re dead wrong. My care extends to my base and my men – and I suggest that you stop thinking the world of what people think of you.’

‘Yes, sir.’ You let out, a little deflated. ‘Understood.’

‘I assure you, I’ll take full responsibility, sir.’ You try to sound assuring, at least. You hope that it doesn’t throw him off too much.

What’s at the forefront of your thoughts, though, is how LEIA’s presence behind the Admiralty – behind the base – would contribute. As loathe as you are to admit it, at the moment, you really couldn’t think of her beyond that of a PR stunt… and that angle didn’t take too well with the Admiral.

‘I will, too, sir.’

To your surprise, your bulky attendant steps in, shaking like a leaf but very much looking like he had made his own decision regarding the discussion.

‘She’s… she’s my endorsement too.’ He declares, looking straight to the Admiral’s flat expression. ‘I don’t want her here, sir, don’t, but we need all the help that we can get. If it’s another set of hands or just someone there to make sure morale doesn’t drop… I’d like to take in the burden of pooling in my responsibility for LEIA – I mean… the extent of her contribution,’ you and the Admiral both frown as he stumbles through his words, ‘to this Base’s operations, sir!’

He snorts, giving the attendant a good-natured smile.

‘I’m not going to send her out there, if that’s what you’re thinking.’ The atmosphere immediately lightens at his words – he had taken a more casual stance now. ‘However… I’m not one to turn down someone so stupid to put themselves on the line for others – especially when they could go around parading themselves in that sort of get-up.’ He throws an unamused glance towards LEIA. ‘Your Uncle know you’re dressing like that, Young Lady?’

You’re reminded that, being an old man, he could be rather conservative at the most inopportune times.

‘I – It properly covers every – you know my – you know who I am, sir?’

‘Of course I do.’ He answers coolly. ‘The ex-Mayor was a good man.’ LEIA immediately lights up at this information. ‘Besides… I remember my first trip into this town… and how a girl that looked awfully like you tried to sneak away with one of my KanMusu’s assigned fairies.’ He pauses, humming thoughtfully. ‘I’m a bit fuzzy on the details… he’s your Uncle, correct?’

‘Yes, sir!’ She salutes. ‘On my father’s side!’

‘Then you must know from his own words I don’t give preferential treatment to anybody.’ LEIA nods at this. ‘You’re going to work as much as I require from anyone else here. We may not be able to fight the Abyssals one-to-one…’ he throws you an accusatory glance, ‘but that doesn’t mean what we do isn’t key. Every single bit counts. Do you understand me?’

‘Yes, sir!’

‘Commander.’ You salute. ‘She’s all yours. I’ll fill out the registrar.’ He turns on his heel, waving to his back. ‘Have a good afternoon.’

‘Sir!’

LEIA and her two friends share smiles. Her manager, meanwhile, sulks.

I'm sorry this is late, btw. My friend actually - and this fool is crazy - got wind of my tweet about a KanMusu X-COM game and we decided to give it a go... tabletop style. Spent the whole morning trying to come up with mechanics. So far, it's taken a lot more influence from WH40K and that new tabletop game where you PvE monsters.

8x8 board, each square can hold a set number of units and you start with enough points for 2 DDs. You level up a series of ships according to the mission that you're drawn. It's an interesting prospect and I'll get back to you folks on it to see how it goes.

‘Manager, you’re in contact with the agency, right? Let’s get down to that first.’

The manager gets to his feet, dusting off his slacks. He’d long since rid of his coat… and without the bulky thing, he looked like he could squeeze between the cracks of doors with no issue. He takes a thoughtful pose, looking at the outside world through the slightly dirty – you should really get to organizing a cleaning schedule – windows, his face as blank as before.

‘Hm.’

He lets out a sigh as he approaches you, his brows creased into a frown.

‘Well, it’d be silly to try to establish contact with them now,’ he declares, taking off his glasses and giving them a nonchalant wipe, his lack of respect for your more than apparent, ‘but considering that the Admiral has given you the responsibility of my client… I don’t think anyone will object.’

‘That’s a change of tune from you.’

‘Far from me not understanding your plight,’ he lets out coolly, hands behind his back, ‘I, too, have lost people I care about to the Abyssals. The fact that you’re at the forefront of the charge isn’t something that assures me any more than your apparent insistence at her staying, however.’

‘This is my choice.’ LEIA insists, sitting on the arm of the couch.

‘So what is it that you need for me to do?’ You get down to business; evening would come fast – it would be best to get this sorted out before night came along.

‘Well, let’s get the easy part out of the way first.’ He takes out a folded piece of paper from his back pocket. ‘First, there are my forms.’

He became surprisingly helpful, if a little rough, as soon as the both of you were seated on the couch going through the details. You couldn’t make out some of the jargon, but the manager was patient in explaining what applied where and how some of the forms worked. You don’t think you would have managed through this without him. Before long, there were only two folders left.

‘These are the concert dates, the boxes, just choose whichever one you wish for an excuse and the lawyers’ll enforce it. This is her decision – you’re just practically saying you’re supporting it.’ He gestures to LEIA to approach. ‘LEIA, if you will?’

LEIA sits down next to him, picking up one of the forms and thinning her lips. You knew the feeling all too well.

‘Now, I’ll sign it and it can end there – I’ll be the one sorting her affairs. If you do it, you’re going to have to act as a temporary go-between for LEIA. If you sign off here, they will know that LEIA is here, that she’s taken to your… side, so to speak. If you don’t wish to do so, her temporary disappearance from the music world will be explained at the agency’s discretion… and mine.’

‘Which one do you suggest?’

‘Anything that’ll make me take back the last hour of my life.’ He answers crisply.

‘I’ll co-sign it. Might as well get it out of the way.’ You sigh.

It’s not as if you had a lot of things on your plate, anyway, not at all. A part of you wants to wave a fist at the bulky attendant, but you realize, much to your embarrassment, that you had been a lot more zealous in your argument to have her on board than he had.

With the papers done, the manager gives you an oily business smile, getting to his feet and putting the forms into a spare folder your lanky attendant had procured.

‘All right. Now that that little matter’s settled, I believe that I’ll take my leave.’ He nods at you, then to LEIA. ‘Commander, she’s in your hands now.’

Your brows scrunch, your confusion mounting.

‘Wait a minute, don’t we have a few more things to do?’

‘I’d stay if it were needed, but I trust that you’d have a handle on things?’ He raises an eyebrow, you open your mouth to say something, but he follows up quickly enough that you only close it again. ‘I only deal with the official business, after all. My client’s well-being is now your responsibility.’

‘What about the letters?’

Letter.’ He insists, again, nodding to LEIA. ‘LEIA has the address of all the concert venues and organizers. You’re not writing to them, though – you’re addressing an official letter of absence to her fans.’ He dusts himself off. ‘Although I have to admit… by signing this, you know just what you’re getting yourself into.’

More work, more likely than not.

‘There’s not much to worry about. I’ll deal with the company, as riled up as they will be. You will be dealing with everyone else.’

‘And accommodation?’

‘That will be up to her.’ He says curtly. ‘Though, I suppose that you should at least be able to give my client a decent place to nap, at the very least. I’m aware of your limitations, but please don’t expect her to sleep by the side of the road.’ He smirks. ‘She’s a lot more delicate than she looks.’

LEIA bristles, but doesn’t retort.

‘So if you’ll excuse me, I’ll leave you to it. It’s late evening, I have to prepare myself for the abuse from my superiors at how much of a pushover I am.’

You really can’t help but chuckle at that.

‘Commander.’ He begins sincerely. ‘Please take care of her.’

He then points to your bulky attendant, his features creasing even further.

‘Don’t think I don’t extend the same to you.’

Your bulky attendant doesn’t say a word – adopting a steely gaze, he offers a curt nod to the manager. Finally satisfied, he gives a dramatic bow, picking up his coat in one fell swoop, walking down the door and waving one last goodbye to the four of you. LEIA and your bulky attendant share a knowing look before she turns to you, ready to get down to business. Things had gone smooth so far… maybe you could get away with this.

>‘Accommodation.’

Quick question, what do we actually have for accommodations besides rooms with sleeping bags in them and a single mattress the commander and Kaga share?
>>

Our complex has spare rooms used for storage.

‘Accommodation.’ You indicate your next course of action. ‘We’ll sort that one out for now – by the end of the hour, if it’s possible.’

Scrunching your nose, you lean against the desk; an immediate comes to you – and you think you might as well get it out of the way.

‘Attendant,’ you nod to the man in question, ‘wouldn’t she be comfortable bunking with you?’

The reaction is immediate. The both of them immediately cover their faces, their faces red at the very thought of it. Fighting down a smirk and a snicker, you look to your lanky attendant, who gives you a raised thumb and a wide grin, approving. It’s not long before they gather themselves though, and puffing their cheeks round on you like a pair of sweating red tomatoes.

HOW COULD YOU SUGGEST THAT?!’

‘All right, all right, it was just a suggestion.’ You raise your hands, calling for peace. That had been worth the rumbling eardrum. ‘You don’t have to explode on me, ma’am.’ You give them a gesture to sit. ‘Let’s get this sorted out, then – I know you’re insistent that you want to be treated like everyone else, but considering just who you are… I’m not so disrespectful that I’ll just toss you into a bed in some tent and call it a day. Let’s weigh the options. Attendant?’

Your bulky attendant points to himself.

‘M – Me?’

‘What do we have to offer her that isn’t too… out of sight?’ You frown, pondering over your choice of words. ‘I haven’t decided her posting yet – that’ll be done tomorrow when I get through the rest of the paperwork… but I’d really like to know what you guys have to offer up.’

‘Well, there’re the female staff camps.’ He suggests; you nod, taking it into consideration. ‘Department Head Ooyodo can fill out the paperwork if she decides that that’s where she wants to be.’

‘The female staff camp?’ Your lanky attendant chimes in, frowning. ‘Isn’t that really close to the beach?’

‘We’re not going to hand her over to a civilian shelter…’ You bring your hand to your chin, exploring your own options. ‘I was actually thinking about the MASH quarters. They’re safe, but they’re pretty far off…’

Commander.’

The four of you raise your heads to see Houshou. Oddly, she’s clad in what looks like a wool jacket over a bikini, a black bag slung at her side. You give her small form an appreciative look as she dips into a bow, greeting everyone.

‘Houshou?’

‘I just thought I’d tell you I’ll be performing attunement protocols until late tonight with Fusou.’ She bows again.

You nod… and with a smile, she’s off and out the door, humming.

‘H – Houshou-san lives here?’

>‘You are not going to like it here. I assure you.’
>‘The MASH quarters should work – I’ll ring up Akashi.’

‘She doesn’t live here… but she does have accommodation.’ You clarify, picking up one of the pieces of paper scattered around. ‘These are the Division barracks… and my makeshift office until they have the base properly rebuilt.’

LEIA looks around, letting out an appreciative hum… before dropping onto one of the chairs. You curiously observe for a few moments before it hits you just what must be at the forefront of her thoughts. You shoot a quick glare to your bulky attendant, mentally chiding him on not picking up on it sooner than you had.

‘I know what you’re thinking, but I have to strongly… protest, even with these circumstances.’

She shakes her glittering hair, giving you a curious gaze herself.

‘Why?’

Oh, you’re not prepared to explain.

‘Because it would be improper.’ You indicate, raising a finger. ‘Plus the fact that we would have to clear a whole room for you… and that the showers are… co-ed.’ She gives you a confused look… causing your cheeks to redden as you try to elaborate further. ‘We share the showers. All of us.’ Your embarrassment rises as you finish your explanation, wondering what you had done to deserve this. ‘Three stalls and no walls.’

‘You – you shower with your KanMusu?’ She gets to her feet, her eyes widening in shock.

‘It’s not as… lewd as it sounds.’ You weakly protest.

They can smell the bullshit across oceans, friend.

Luckily, your bulky attendant steps in.

‘It really isn’t.’ He insists. ‘Considering the nature of the Stream, I think the Commander’s bared a lot more than just his butt to them… and when you’re in there, everything’s just out in the open.’

‘What’s a Stream?’

‘A mental link.’

She adopts a thoughtful look… nodding in agreement along with her boyfriend.

You rub your temples.

‘Attendant, I appreciate you being in my corner, but shouldn’t you be arguing against the possibility that your girlfriend might be walked in on by your superior officer?’

He shrugs, prompting you to bury your face in your hands.

‘You really need to get this boyfriend gig down.’ You say crisply. ‘Really. Have you ever heard of NTR?’

‘They’re not mine!’

Everyone turns to your lanky attendant.

‘I mean… I… I don’t know what…’

‘Whatever it is, attendant, she’s not going to have a good time here. And as much as I would appreciate ogling the female form,’ you sarcastically offer, ‘I don’t think that she would be – !’

‘I’d be okay with it, sir!’ She insists, saluting. ‘If they can trust you do good and with their lives – I – I can trust you with my virtue!’

You groan.

‘You’re a match made in Heaven. Truly.’

‘If you scream when I walk into the showers I am putting you and your boyfriend in the same dorm.’ You point to the both of them, giving your best expression of the Admiral. You suspect you look more like a tired bulldog. ‘Do you understand me?’

‘Yes, sir!’ They chime in unison, saluting.

Your thought goes back to the morning… you had intended to clear a room anyway, but the clock – which stated that it was almost 4 by now and didn’t leave much room to blitz your way, makes you consider your next action carefully.

Instead of 1 new housemate, you had gained 2.

‘I haven’t quite decided… but considering that I might have another guest due this evening as well,’ you gesture to the doorway, ‘we don’t have time to do all this. Attendants, if you would assist in clearing one of the rooms upstairs?’ They both salute, again. ‘There shouldn’t be a lot of junk… and one of you will have to ask for a mattress or a sleeping bag.’

‘Wait, sir, didn’t you put in a request already?’ Your lanky attendant inquires.

‘No, I haven’t had the opportunity to finish drawing up a form just yet.’ You think back to your stalled attempt at paperwork. Perhaps you could get to that now. ‘It would be better if the both you would be able to clear up two rooms, actually.’

‘Why, sir?’ You raise an eyebrow at your bulky attendant, who apologetically looks to his feet. ‘Sorry to ask.’

‘Because we’ll be paying host to a guest of the Admiralty.’ You don’t elaborate further, shooing all 3 of them. ‘Now, the three of you get going. I need to get a move on with – hang on a moment.’ They stop in their tracks. ‘LEIA, I almost forgot… your letter to the fans. We’ll have to finish that by tonight if we’re going to have it outgoing by tomorrow morning.’

‘Oh, um…’ She turns to you, raising her hands. ‘I think I can handle that myself.’ She nods assuredly. ‘I’m not so helpless that I can’t write a public letter of apology.’

Your two attendants give each other knowing, flat looks.

‘You made a guy who confessed to you in freshman year cry.’ Your lanky attendant points out, almost tiredly. ‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone use the word sorry in that kind of context.’

‘I – I didn’t mean to!’

‘I think that’s the scariest part of the whole thing.’ Your attendant goes on, smirking at his wide friend. ‘That she unwittingly does it. Where would she be without us to take her down a peg, my good friend?’

‘Too true, my most excellent comrade.’

They both hold out fists… and bump them together.

‘YOU TWO – !’

‘All right. If you can handle it.’ You nod, waving her away to help the other two.

‘I can handle it.’ She insists, before pausing, nervously shuffling her feet as she regards you. ‘And sir?’

‘Thank you for giving me this chance.’ She drops into a bow – the sun shining through the windows makes the glitter a little bit more brilliant, and you can’t help but feel the warmth that she exuded. Regardless of how you felt about the task at hand, LEIA, at least… felt like she was a person that was worth the hassle to have on your side.

‘Of course, Miss LEIA.’ You rise to your feet, giving her a respectful bow.

She dashes up soon after, leaving you with both your piles – and in addition, your attendants. Although, considering the alternative – writing wishy-washy words to appease thirty year-old men and thirteen year-old screaming fangirls – you think that you’d dodged a bullet by leaving LEIA to sort through her affairs while you did yours. Picking up another supplementary form, you have to keep yourself from throwing up a cheer of victory as it designates the very items that you’d wished to procure by the end of the day.

SUPPLY REQUISITION FORM – OPTIONS

Filling out the form, you request for a few mattresses – one for your new staff member, LEIA, and another for your new KanMusu. As you write-in the last details, you feel a sense of irony at the back of your head – you’d just told Nagato last night that you wouldn’t dream of replacing her… and here you were, practically adding to her fears by having the very KanMusu she had felt threatened take up residence, however temporary, into your barracks. Flopping on your chair, you take note the next supply run from the maintenance crew, wondering just when they would be coming over to do another check-up. Although it was a trivial worry, the place was still a little shabby. You didn’t want it to go up in smokes at something as anti-climactic as loose wiring.

As you do your work, you hear the occasional swear word and the sound of large, heavy items clattering from the floor above, although, not so intrusive that you have to march on upstairs and tell them to keep it down.

About an hour and a half later, you’re shaken from your labors by a courier delivering the report on the upgrades. Taking the report, you hand him over the rest of the items for the day – including the requisition form, which they would hopefully have done by tonight – before flexing your left hand’s fingers.

A sense of accomplishment comes over you – this had been the first time you’d gone through this without your attendants playing support.

The evening was yours.

You decide to see the Admiral before you lose the chance to. Your attendants could handle the finer details without you.

Walking outside, you manage to hail a buggy dropping off a few KanMusu – it’s not the Old Man, but he does his job well enough; in no time you find yourself stopping in front of Mamiya’s, the Command Tent in your sights. Making your way past several maintenance crew members and voluntary army personnel, you wonder if it was such a good time. Several trucks are seen loading boxes and other sorts of items, rumbling on the way as you approach the large tent. Several of the smaller tents surrounding the Prep Dock are gone now, along with the masses of crates and cables that were once all over.

Walking inside, you immediately see the Admiral, barking orders to an MP. As he leaves, you approach the Admiral, dropping into a salute as he throws you a puzzled glance, evidently puzzled over your presence – after all, you had seen him this morning.

‘I’m sorry to bother you again, sir, but considering the hubbub over the transfers… I didn’t want to disturb you.’

He waves it off, gesturing for you to continue.

‘Fire away. What’s on your mind?’

‘I’d like a trip inland, sir.’ You answer quickly.

He leans over the large display apparatus – you notice that it’s now unplugged.

‘Is this about the meeting with Taigei?’

‘This is more of a… personal excursion.’ You admit.

‘You know that I need you on hand, Commander.’ You wince – that had been a reason you had taken into consideration. ‘I can’t spare you off the premises as things are now.’

‘I know, sir.’ You reply, putting your hands behind your back. ‘But Quartermaster Tenryuu requested that I procure a few things.’

‘Can’t just send a supply requisition?’ He raises an eyebrow.

‘These items require a more… delicate set of fingers.’ You try again, hoping that he wouldn’t catch on. ‘She’d also like a pass inland so she can decide what to procure and what not to.’

‘You’re taking her shopping.’

Hope denied

‘Yes, sir.’ You sigh, defeated.

‘You know my policy.’

‘Yes, sir.’ Again, you nod.

The Admiral gives you a quizzical look… before letting out a defeated sigh and a bemused chuckle.

‘I’m not enthusiastic about it… but I am prepared to give you a full day’s leave in order to sort out these affairs.’ He points a finger at you. ‘However, I would also like to warn you, Commander, that the trust I put in you in regards to this… is not to be taken lightly. Is that clear?’

‘Yes, sir.’ You answer seriously.

‘I have a few dates in the immediate future that have transports clear enough for you and Tenryuu to take a trip inland. You’ll have to organize the return trip yourself.’

We could still talk to the Admiral about that while we're meeting with him. It would only be reasonable to at least ask what time he's planned to send us.

‘If you could organize it for the weekend, that’d be great, sir.’ You answer – you still need a few days to get things sorted out, and the weekend seemed to offer a good time frame. You could even get to write a memo if you didn’t manage to meet up with Tenryuu – in the odd event that would happen.

‘This one, huh?’ He picks up the timetable… before frowning. ‘Wait, that shouldn’t be there, that’s full.’ Grumbling over his mistake, he gives you another transport detail. It’s on the same day, but at a different time. ‘It’ll have to be the third one… the morning ride. This isn’t a limo service, so you’re going to have to huddle with the rest of the civilians.’

You give an understanding nod.

‘I understand, sir. I didn’t expect anything more than a ride inland.’ A thought hits you – one you hadn’t considered before now. ‘Although… how am I going to get back out here?’

‘That’ll be up to you. Cab fairs are expensive… if they even want to bother going past the first outpost.’ Your lips thin into a line as you remember just how expensive the bus down here had been. ‘Since we have some Army personnel on-base, maybe you can hitch a ride on one of those.’ He suggests – you take it into consideration. ‘I know buses aren’t going to be making their way out here anyway. We’re not exactly a tourist spot.’

You nod again.

‘So, it’ll be the morning… that’d be in… two and a half days?’

He lets out an affirmative grunt.

‘I’m not giving you an extra day off work. You get that one and I need you on duty.’ He points at you - again, you nod. There was no point in arguing for something that you hadn’t considered in the context. ‘We may be in better straits than we were two weeks ago, but it isn’t by much.’

‘Understood, Admiral.’

He adopts a thoughtful look, crossing his arms.

‘Do you have money?’

Oh, right.

‘I…’

Your mind drifts to the time in the alley, lying and clutching your head… your wallet, mysteriously gone as you regained consciousness.

‘Commander, did you really plan on going inland without money?’

‘I… lost my wallet.’ You admit, embarrassed.

‘Did you get a lost and found going?’

You turn a little more red.

‘I… may have neglected to.’ You bite out, giving a nervous smile. ‘It was on my first day.’

The Admiral’s face is one of incredulity. You really can’t blame him.

‘Your district should have something going on by now,’ he suggests, biting back a remark, ‘be sure to check on it every few days to see how much comes your way.’

‘Sir, I know I’ve asked for much, but… about the meeting with Taigei. I was wondering how soon you would be able to arrange it, sir?’ You’d had in on your mind for quite some time… the faster you answered Nagato’s worries, the better.

‘I was actually able to slide in a few time slots.’ He walks over to the smaller apparatus by the partition, picking up a folder and rifling through it. ‘Surprisingly enough, she has quite a few… openings.’

‘I’m sorry you had to deal with all the paperwork, sir.’ You rub the back of your neck – he had done quite a bit for you at this point. The least you could do was apologize for the inconveniece.

‘Organizing it isn’t the hard part.’ He grumbles, handing you a form. It had your name, albeit a little smudged, your fictional complaint and all the little details filled out on your behalf. ‘All I had to do was forge the fact that you had some grievances with mission parameters and wanted a direct line of complaint… the Court of Admirals considers it beneath them to sort those kind of things out. It doesn’t fit their bigger picture, so to speak. That’s where Taigei comes in.’

The big red letters APPROVED, along with a series of time stamps followed on the next page, typed up. They were dates. Dates of suggested meeting times.

‘She’s mission control?’ You frown – that sounded a bit of what the Admiral implied – to you, at least.

‘No, she’s…’ He pinches the bridge of his nose, looking very much troubled. ‘I over-simplified it. But she’s right up there.’ He throws you a worried gaze, apparently biting the inside of his cheek. You don’t say a word, waiting for him to continue. ‘I’d also like to remind you that she’s not someone you want to mess with or play a game around. Get to the point, apologize for the meeting and get what you need. If she asks questions, give short answers. If she engages in conversation with you, follow as much as you have to and get back on point.’

‘She sounds like a piece of work.’

‘She isn’t.’ He admits – albeit reluctantly.‘But she is dangerous.’

‘Taigei knows things. About how the Admiralty operates, how I operate… I don’t think there’s anyone on the roster that she doesn’t know more about than the people in question… save for you.’

He grimaces. You point to yourself, confused at that particular tidbit.

‘Me?’

‘As far as she’s knows… you’re just a name on a register.’ He taps your name on the form for emphasis. ‘That makes you an anomaly.’

A small realization comes upon you.

‘And me being an anomaly makes me interesting enough to pick up on.’

He gives you a warning look.

‘Don’t play the game, Commander.’

‘You all right, Commander?’

You shake your head, admiring the view of the small valley below. Riding in an army jeep hadn’t been what you’d expected when the Admiral had brought up the topic of transport, but you weren’t that choosy. It’d been almost four hours since you’d been on the road – the checkpoints going out hadn’t been particularly obstructive as they had been going towards Yokosuka. There had been few cars on the road… they had been more of a luxury the last few years.

The speeding scenery was nostalgic – the cut-in valleys, the green of the trees… you’d missed the countryside; you even spy a few paddy fields as the jeep zoom past, clocking at just under a hundred.

‘Yeah.’ You finally answer. ‘I’m fine.’

‘I’m sorry if I drive a little slow.’ The driver – a man slightly older than you with a a long face and a sharp nose to go with high cheeks – apologizes.

‘That’s all right.’ You assure him. ‘How far are we from HQ?’

‘Just around this hill, actually.’

As you feel the pull on your back… it comes into view.

The building was huge. Not so much tall, but it looked more like a titanic hilltop mansion than an administrative building. Even in the dark, you can make out the pristine white coat and the olden dome on the top to go with the regal pillars. The most visible thing of the whole structure, though, were the two flags on either side – one of the League of Nations, and the other of the Admiralty, indicators of their allegiance.

‘Quite a place.’

‘This used to be an old fort for the Sixth Lord of Sakura before it was converted into an administrative building during the Seventeenth Congregation sixty years ago. ’ He explains – he sure knew his history. ‘After the Twentieth Congregation, the Lords had a small scuffle over who really owned the place.’ He shoots you a grin. ‘Turned out, it’d entered into the public’s coffer long before the turn of the last century – it was public property.’

‘The Lords weren’t happy with that, I reckon.’

‘They weren’t, but they knew that if they messed with the Voice of the People, they’d be violating hundreds of years of tenets and bylaws. It would’ve been stupid to introduce anarchy over a single building, yeah?’ He shrugs. ‘Well, it was sold to the League of Nations with a few notes in place from setting a whole different precedent.’

‘I suppose.’ You agree, looking thoughtful. ‘If the gains didn’t justify the losses.’

Your jeep pulls up to the checkpoint post.

A guard walks out of the pillbox, flashing a lantern to make out your features. You flash your tag, showing your rank and station. There was no use telling him who you were going to see unless you were asked.

‘You’re expected.’

‘I am.’

The guard gives you a warm smile, walking into the pillbox. He talks into a microphone – an action to fully authorize your entry. At the sound of the beep, the grill drags itself open, prompting the jeep driver to put the vehicle into gear and into the empty-looking parking lot. There are few cars parked – although you spy a rather auspicious-looking convertible parked in a slot your jeep drives by. The front of the building was huge… and the building itself, befitting its nature as an old fort, was built right into the face of the hill. You’re impressed at the sheer architecture of the place – it was an incredible achievement, managing all this. It’s no wonder it had a past life as an ancient fortress; an intimidating and wondrous amalgam of marble and stone.

Your driver pulls up along the curb… right before the stairs leading upward into a pair of great big doors, complete with intricate pots and barrier designs. You observe the pots, the intricate details – you’d been wrong about this place being a mansion… you felt like you were walking into the Halls of a Lord himself. Taking an intake of breath, you manage to leap out of the keep, giving the driver your thanks.

‘I’ll be outside, Commander.’

You nod. You hadn’t expected more from him anyway… not that it crossed your mind to ask in the first place, either. Taigei was up there, waiting for you, it would seem.

The stairs are a little steep. You pat one of the pillars by the entrance as you push – the surprisingly easy – doors open, revealing an intricate lobby. The floor was checkered dark brown and black in large squares, an imperial staircase sitting at the back of the place you assume to be the Entrance Hall. To your left and right, several pieces of art and benches were present, along with paintings of ships, planes and rolling hills. You frown as you take it all in – this was quite a bit of luxury to go around.

To your right, you see… a pair of oddly-dressed men, seated in what looked like a small lounge, clad in bright colors and flamboyant suits – they didn’t look like anyone the Admiralty would have been involved with… but then again, seeing all this…

‘This is all going to count for nothing if the Abyssals get here.'

You’re shaken from your wonder by a young man, about your age, clad in uniform. He’s a little bit taller than you with a face like a fox’s, his form hunched over slightly. He makes his way towards you, his smile not quite reaching his eyes.

‘It does seem a little bit pointless if you look at it from that point of view, yes.' You reply.

His smile grows, if only a little.

'Pleased to meet you, Commander.'

He holds out a hand.

Tentatively, you reach out to his hand and shake it. He has a firm grip… but the texture of his hand is strangely soft and gentle.

‘I’m sorry, but… how do you know me?’ You pull away, frowning.

His eyes widen – for measure of widen, anyway – before he holds a fist to his lips, letting out a small, airy laugh. You can’t help but feel a little bit on edge

‘The uniform and the tags were a dead giveaway.’

‘Ah, of course.’ You turn a little red, embarrassed. Of course that would be how you’d be recognized.

‘I am a little bit curious.’ He frowns, eying you in a manner that you can only describe as calculative. It was as though he was sizing you up.‘I thought all the Commanders were, well… dead.’

‘Not all of them.’

His grin widens.

‘You would be – ?’ You hastily change the topic… besides, maybe if you could put a name to a face he wouldn’t be so intimidating anymore.

‘Agent to the Court of Admirals, at your service.’ he bows slightly, prompting you to do the same. ‘Although, it’s a bit of a misnomer… I actually report to the Grand Lieutenant rather than the Court. They really need to change the way these things are worded, don’t you?’

‘Agent?’ You latch on, frowning. ‘You mean like those… spies?’

Don’t play the game, Commander.

‘Oh, nothing that horrible or crude, I assure you.’ He insists playfully. ‘My people, we just do what the Grand Lieutenant or the Courts want us to do. No different than when you’re ordered on the field or assigned to administrative work.’

‘What’s the difference between you and the Court Representative?’

His smile unsettles you more than it comforts. Perhaps that is its purpose.

‘Who we answer to.’ He mentions cheerfully. ‘The Grand Lieutenant and the Court of Admirals may seem like a whole entity, but they both represent different arms of the organization. The Grand Lieutenant is the highest-ranked individual and answers to only the Court of Admirals, who may veto whatever decision he chooses to undertake, depending on its size and scope. They both exist so that neither may play with the power at their fingertips.’

‘Isn’t that counter-productive?’

‘Decades ago, Taiyouga manufactured a biological weapon that caused the deaths of tens of millions and none of the change that it had set out to do.’ He mentions coolly. ‘We prevent it.’

‘When you look back, it’s always easier to see where you went wrong.’

He rubs his chin, his gaze neutral.

‘It’s precisely because the Admiralty – the Court and the Grand Lieutenant believe in that… that this system exists.’ You’re not sure if he’s talking to you anymore. ‘The power of the fairies is more than enough to be at the hands of one man… or several with one agenda, wouldn’t you say?’

You don’t answer.

They act as a counterbalance to each other, a sort of dichotomy of a collective intelligence with a democratic decision vs. a man who takes things by his own valuation. ‘I’m actually here on official business.’ You get down to it. Sparing a quick glance, you wonder if the Admiralty could spare a few more details on their signs – South Wing and The First And Last Hall were hardly good indicators. ‘I’m looking for the Keeper – Taigei.’

He peers at you curiously. You look around for something else… wishing that there was at least a receptionist to greet you instead of this odd man. The closest thing you can find to a clue to where she would be were a few more signs that stated the locations of certain parts of the building… but no names.

‘That’s an odd reason to come here in the middle of the night.’

You rub the back of your head, remembering what you were here for… officially.

‘Well, I put in a request… I’m not particularly happy with a few things and the Admiral told me that if I had a complaint, she’d be the one to go to.’

He narrows his fox-like gaze at you.

‘Now that’s even odder.’

You shrug, playing dumb. He visibly relaxes as you take a more casual stance, before sighing heavily.

The grin returns now, more unsettling than ever before.

‘But if you’re really looking for her…’ he points to the imperial staircase, where you turn your head towards, ‘the stairs on the left. After you pass the portrait of the Lord on the horse, turn right at the overlooking balcony; you’ll know when you get there.’ You turn back to him as he gives you a small, respectful bow. ‘If she really is expecting you… I’m suspect she won’t mind.’ He snickers. ‘Much.’

Raising yourself from your bow, you see the Agent giving you a casual wave as he trots off elsewhere, humming a tune. You motion to call out to him, but relent – as easy-going as he seemed to be, he was right in that you presence here in the middle of the night was definitely one that garnered suspicion. You tell yourself to get this done as quickly as possible, moving towards the flight of stairs.

The place is huge. You had thought it to be large on the outside, but it looked like it could fit a whole town – the entrance hall was more of a hotel lobby than it had advertised on the signs. Remembering the words of the Agent, you go past the portrait of the Lord, going right onto the balcony and onto a classically-designed Hall… this was the North Wing, if the wooden sign hanging from above was any indication… and it seemed like you were in the right place, considering the row of office doors lined by the walls.

You walk down the Hall, glossing over the labels on the door, many of them had numbers and letters, many of them with doors… but none with a na –

Taigei – Record Keeper

You stop… and knock on the door.

A man, chiseled and in a police uniform, answers it.

‘You don’t like they sent you.’

‘I’m here on official business. Is Taigei here?’

You don’t question why a chiseled man with a mustache wearing a uniform too tight for him was there to answer through the crack of the door. You feel a little bit of envy towards the abs that are shown past his hitched top, but you try not to stare… no, you’re more focused on the odor that seems to seep through the door. The man gives you a quizzical look, smiling kindly as he widens the gap, gesturing you inside.

‘Eh, not bad.’ He shrugs. ‘Maybe you’ll grow into it.’

The sound of moans, slaps and cries fully reaches you, undeterred by the solid build of the door. The policeman – who you quickly realize is not a policeman – slips you a wink and makes way for you. Your throat grows dry as you try your best to not hurl from the mix of sweat, spit, breath… and sex.

Including you, there were six men in the room.

There was only one woman.

Seated on the floor, one man underneath her, nude, covered in a liquid and humming in joy is who you assume, being the only woman in the room, is Taigei. You feel yourself weak in the knees, the surprise overcoming you more than the stench seemed to… although, it could be argued that it did have a helping hand. They men were all of varying age and build – your estimates put them from their late teens to their early sixties, if the hair and wrinkles were any indication. Each of them wore a troubled, stone-faced expression as she, who you guess to be Taigei, works them with her body, riding a red-headed man’s member and having her face stuffed with another.

She doesn’t pay any attention to you. You don’t think that she’s even noticed you, so entranced she is in working the member of the standing man – a blonde that had about a decade on you, wearing a heavy chain, a chest full of hair and unfashionable, tacky sideburns. Not that Taigei seemed to care. Lost in a haze of lust, she pumps herself up and down the man under her – switching to someone who seemed the youngest of the lot – he looked about the age of your attendants, at the very most. Taigei looks up to him with lidded eyes – you notice he looks a little apprehensive… although his lower half apparently held no such inhibitions at being swallowed by the nubile, buxom young woman.

You absently wonder… she seemed to be about Houshou’s height – it was hard to guess from this angle.

Your eyes finally meet seconds later.

Oh… I didn’t know they had the variety option.’ She smirks, giving the older gent a loving lick. ‘Be a dear and – ahn – sit on the couch… I believe that I’m a little… stuffed.’

Miraculously, you return to your senses.

‘I think I’ll wait outside until you’re done, ma’am.’

You head back for the door, your face scrunched in disgust.

‘Hey, where are you – ?’ The not-policeman gives you a worried gaze. You lift your tags to indicate that you weren’t part of whatever entourage she had up for the night, making him reach back the arm that he had held aloft to keep you from leaving.

Instead, he opens the door for you, nodding to someone – probably Taigei herself – as you walk into the hallways, the door closing and locking behind you with a soft click. You let out a huge sigh, bringing your hand to your forehead, wiping away the beads of sweat that had formed; you had expected to be sealed in a room with a KanMusu that knew your intimate secrets and be able to read you like a book… not the lusty woman that seemed to inhale and worship the male essence in all its raw quantity.

Behind you, through the walls, your ears pick up on the sound of moans, cries and curses, causing you to flush and mutter to yourself as you wait patiently for the KanMusu to, in the most careful of words, enjoy her purchase. Your mind, somehow, thinks back to Houshou and Kaga’s own tryst with you; the aftermath of Kaga’s entry into your Stream.

About an hour later, the door opens, causing you to straighten up. It’s the not-policeman again… in the buff, but it’s him. You can tell by the mustache. You don’t give anything away,

‘Hey, um, Admiral dude? You’re up.’

‘It’s Commander.’ You grumble as he moves aside.

‘Yeah, she’ll… see you now.’ He gives you an apologetic grin.

They were still at it. On her back, legs spread, neck craned, with a man at each end, thrusting into her with reckless abandon, there she was.

She wasn’t done. Somehow, though, she had deemed it fit to have you brought in under

Behind you, the door closes, automatically putting you on edge. You observe her with your one good eye, taking in her actions – you don’t show any emotion; as hard as it is for you to keep a hold on your senses, especially the smell, you find yourself strangely… adverse to the act. You cough loudly and hotly, keeping yourself in check.

Keeper Taigei.’

The both of them stop, sliding out of her as though they had merely set down their pencils in the middle of work.

Covered in their essence, leaking and reeking of it, she sits up, giving her breasts a good rub, shooting you a poor attempt at seduction.

‘I take it that you’re – ah part of my weekly… indulgence… Commander?’

‘No, ma’am.’

‘Would you like to be?’

The rest of the room chuckles audibly as she pushes herself off the table and onto the wooden floor, the pitter-patter of fluids apparent as she makes her way to you.

‘You can use any hole you want. I won’t tell a soul…’

‘If it’s all the same to you, ma’am, I’d like to get down to business.’

She doesn’t seem to listen to you, though. Approaching you, you find the stench of sex and sweat almost throwing you into a delirium – you ball your hands into fists as she hooks her arms around your neck, drawing you in. Her lips don’t quite touch yours… but you do all you can to keep your head from dipping and starting something you’re sure you won’t forgive yourself from finishing. You feel her hot breath on your chin, her fingers playing with your ear as the men around you, still nude, watch the both of your with voyeuristic fervor.

All right,’ she chirps cheerfully, releasing you and turning to the rest of the men present. ‘You may leave, gentlemen. I believe I have another agenda on my hands for the rest of the night.’ She flashes you a subtle smile, making her way, still nude, to her work desk. ‘Thank you for your time.’

They grumble, nodding. The youngest of the lot, the handsome brunette, however, is reached over by Taigei… who gives him a plant on the cheek – he grimaces as he raises a hand to her chest, pushing her away and reaching down to pick up his clothes. Houshou’s words echo even clearer now; even with Taigei’s quick smirk, you could tell that she was a little affected by the reluctance of a return gesture… and a small part of you does want to frown on it, but…

You also remember the Admiral’s words. You couldn’t afford to let your guard down with Taigei.

Sitting down on the couch, you wait for them to get dressed. Taigei doesn’t, however, sitting on the edge of her desk as she observes the men dress back up in their flamboyant, spangled clothes. You make out one of them had a zoot suit, the red-head donning tight spandex with a pair of boots, the hairy-chested man donning a construction worker’s outfit… and the not-policeman in his impossibly tight uniform.

‘We hope you enjoyed yourself, Madam!’ They drop into a respectful bow, making Taigei raise her dainty hands to wave at them… still covered in their spunk.

As they make for the door, you find a hand on your shoulder.

‘Hey, dude,’ the not-policeman winks at you, slipping you a card… which, for some reason or other, you take, ‘if you’re interested… there’s always a clientele for your kinda bod.’

You really hope he didn’t imply what you thought he was getting at.

The door closes, leaving you with a room that reeked of more than just sex, a mess of paper, rubber and whatever unmentionables… and the one responsible for it all, Taigei.

‘So… this is about the complaint you lodged the other day, hm?’ She begins playfully.

‘You know that’s not why I’m here, Taigei.’

Still nude – and not bothering at all to cover up and propping herself her on the desk – she throws you an off-putting smile. It eerily reminds you of the Agent and the Grand Lieutenant, enough that your guard immediately raises. She has no regard for her state of dress… nor does she for the chaotic manner that her office had adopted in her session of indulgence. You don’t rise to it – you tell yourself not to rise to it.

‘Do I?’

She giggles melodiously behind a dainty hand, blood-red eyes flashing at you dangerously. You don’t make your move just yet, waiting for her to hook onto the conversation. You couldn’t afford to give away more than you already had – the Admiral’s warning rings clearly in your head; it’s the one thing that keeps you from indulging in any of her light, inviting gestures.

She makes her way to you again, resting her hands on your knees, bringing her face close to yours. Again, you will yourself to stay the course – she is testing you; that much you can make out. The stench, the sway of her hips and her hot breath on your lips, the inviting eyes… they’re all there to dig into you, to shatter your resolve.

Raising a hand to your cheek, your disgust creeps on you, her hands, still fresh with the scent and the essence of the other men, drags along your cheek. She snickers in amusement at your frown, but otherwise, you don’t react, turning your features away to her.

She lets out a disappointed sound, tracing a finger along your chin.

‘Here I was, thinking that there was something so very urgent about the requisition delays that the Commander himself would bother traveling inland to lodge a complaint.’ She says in a sing-song voice. ‘Now what could he be here, interrupting my little treat to myself.’

‘Are you telling me you don’t know anything?’ You finally voice out, your voice barely audible.

‘Maybe.’ She replies, amused.

You grab her hand, pulling it away.

‘Then would you say that I’m wasting my time being here?’

Taigei bares her teeth in a threatening smile. Your hand halts mid-movement – the strength of the KanMusu comes into play as her wrist moves and her hand is once more underneath your chin, her fingernail digging into your skin.

Careful.’ She warns.

‘I understand that you keep the records of every mission that the Admiralty’s assigned, and I want to ask you about one record in particular.’ You mention quickly.

‘Oh?’

‘There were two Battleships involved. Yamato and Musashi.’

‘Yamato and Musashi are MIA.’ She says hums, digging further into your flesh. ‘That is the record that is stated.’

>‘That’s all there is, then.’ END TASK

‘You know that’s not the end of it.’ You push on; Taigei’s brows furrow at this – and she pulls her finger away. ‘Queries into their status beyond that are met with no answers. There are no details on the mission, none of the one who was in command of it nor are there any official orders for a rescue party. Call me an idiot for thinking it, but that sounds kind of suspicious, right?’

‘It does.’ She says, still in that dangerously sweet voice. ‘What else can you tell me?’

Before you can react, she’s all over you.

Taigei straddles you like a mount, her thighs either side of you and her arms locking behind your neck. The stench – the mix of sex and arousal – almost drives you wild; your body, despite your protests, responds to her. Your hands grip her waist as she grinds against the fabric of your pants; she’s dripping and inviting; it takes all of you to not jump on her there and then and claim her as you had Takao, Kaga, Houshou, and… Nagato.

This was for Nagato.

Don’t you forget.

Get… OFF!’

Her eyes widen in surprise as you push her off you. For a moment, you think you see hurt cross over her stained features, but you really can’t help it. You had had enough of the brow-beating, the dainty steps and the hoops. You had come here for one thing and one thing only: the truth. Taigei’s dancing around you like an imp on eve had upset you to levels you hadn’t thought possible to reach without a some physical interference… but here you were, glaring down at her prone form, looking up at you in shock.

You wipe at your cheek, spitting onto the wooden floor, your frustration coming to a point. The stench is raw and invades your nose as you consider her, breathing heavily. Pushing her off had taken a lot out of you… and you’re not sure, as she gets to her feet, whether it had been such a good idea, seeing the livid red of her eyes. You chuckle, baring your own teeth. You don’t care if she put a hole in your chest right now – it wasn’t in you to play the ringmaster. You had been told to be direct… and that was what you were going to do.

‘Do you have the files on their disappearance?’ You collect yourself, returning her livid stare.

‘No.’

You turn around, growling and straightening your uniform. That whole trip for nothing.

‘It’s not written.’ She voices out.

You turn around, and see her clutching herself, shivering and wiping the stains on her forearm.

‘There is no record of it because the records don’t exist. The files… they’re all here.’ She taps her head, throwing you a pitiful grimace. You don’t return it, still angry. ‘The operation they undertook was a failure… but…’

You have 5 minutes, Taigei.’

Taigei wipes the stains off her bare breasts, pouting as she does so. You don’t flinch, your lips thinning into a line as you wait for her to begin briefing you on the details. Sordid as you suspect they would be… it would at least – or you hope, anyway – be the truth, or failing that, as close to it as you could get.

‘Do you know the reason we were utterly decimated by the Abyssals this time?’ She grins, turning around and shaking her bum as she moves to one of the many bookshelves you now notice lined the office. You had failed to notice – and you don’t beat yourself over it, seeing how shocking the scene had been when you’d barged in – that the office was actually rather decently set up.

The place was a lot bigger than you would’ve accounted for, with pristine wooden floors, old fashioned bookshelves and a decent fan on the ceiling, slowly turning. Spacious, with a desk that made you green with envy, wooden settings that gave the place an atmosphere more befitting a study rather than an office of an orgy participant. You wonder, absently, why the place was so temperate, considering it was right down a corridor and the place was built into the face of a hill, but shake it off.

You get back to the question… and an expectant Taigei, who, while still naked, held a folder in her hands. It was easy enough to find an answer; even your attendants and the maintenance crew could have elaborated on it more than you could… probably.

‘We were stretched thin.’ You reply. ‘The Admiralty didn’t build on their foundations enough and left themselves open to an attack. The brass got overconfident and we ended up losing more than we set out to do.’

She lets out a small giggle, setting down the folder as she skips her way to you, bending over as she smirks, not two feet away.

‘A tactician’s answer. It’s hard to see past that tub – hm, no, that would be unfair. You’re not quite that big…’ She gives your belly a tentative glance – you don’t rise to it, merely returning her look with one of yours. Sighing, she twirls around and rests her palms on her desk, smirking. ‘But back to the topic – it isn’t wrong, but don’t you wonder what kind of movement would have made the Admiralty so overconfident it let itself go that far?’

She spreads herself slightly. Either to tease you or to throw you off guard. It could have been both, easily.

‘People make mistakes.’ You answer, almost automatically. It was only logical for it to turn out that way ‘The bigger the scope, the more vicious the backlash.’

To your surprise, Taigei throws her head back in laughter. There’s amusement there… but also a cruel, cutting edge to it. It was the laugh of someone who reveled in their superiority; of those that carried the cards and not afraid to let those before their eyes dance on their terms.

It finally subsides as she picks up the file and approaches you, the laughter replaced by a smile so bright you could almost call it sincere.

Almost.

‘I think that’s the first opinion of yours I agree with.’ She winks at you, biting the edge of the folder as her eyes flash ‘This is the place I get to watch it all – !’

‘I’d like it if you could get back on point.’ You cut her off. You didn’t have time for another one of those tirades.

She pouts childishly, but complies. At this point, you honestly wish that she’d put something on to cover herself up.

‘The Grand Lieutenant and the Court of Admirals agreed on a series of strategic, off-the-books, joint strike missions. There were three Forces that registered in the participation of that little endeavor. The Vice-Admiral and Admiral of Ominato… and the Admiral of Maizuru.’

‘I thought the Grand Lieutenant was in charge of Ominato.’ You frown, confused.

She nods cheerfully.

‘Oh, he operates out of there when he wants to… it’s not often, but when he’s in the mood, that’s his go-to site.’

‘So why the secrecy on a joint operation? Why would it be off-the-books?’ You round on the point; that had been why you were here – if it had been a joint

Something clicks at the back of your head… something that you didn’t want to acknowledge.

‘A number of reasons.’ She hums, bringing a finger to her lips. ‘The key point of discussion would be that they didn’t want certain parties to know of the context of the operations.’

‘I’m losing my patience.’

‘Come on, Commander, take a moment to think… really, really think.’ Her eyes take a manic gleam as she ‘We’d never had this much success before… the most we’d been able to do was give a few fishing trawlers a clear day and a route back. What do you think would’ve changed so much that we would have been able to push so hard, so far… and why do you think that the Admiralty would have it so cooped up that the only answers you get are three letters on a piece of paper? Who would the Admiralty have to answer to?’ ‘What could they have done to think that two of their Battleships were well worth the secrecy in return?’

‘The fairies.’ You frown, remembering your first encounter with the Grand Lieutenant. ‘Whatever they were doing, it had something to – !’

Taigei grins widely.

‘Alchemy.’ You feel sick saying the word. ‘They were synthesizing fairy alchemy.’

‘Yamato and Musashi were the first to be outfitted with the new generation of KanMusu weaponry.’

Your blood runs cold as she hands you the folder… and you see the big, red words that send shivers down your spine.

‘Based on your past mission experience, I think you’re aware of its failed sister project.’

‘It rings a bell.’

It rings too many for your liking. You didn’t want to return to that time if you could help it.

‘Compared to your failed retrieval op, this project was a resounding success.’

She gestures to you to open the folder. There were no photos – of course there wouldn’t be – the files themselves had black ink struck through them so no one would misuse the information. It wasn’t thick or heavy and the only things that you could make out were locations: Aquarius, Nordal, Gatsby… places the project had visited, no doubt, along with red and purples stamps with the words REVIEW on them.

‘How did the Admiralty get away with it?’ You question – if you had been able to stumble onto one of the bases – granted, on their call – then there would’ve been others who would’ve blown the whistle where you hadn’t? ‘They couldn’t have expected to manufacture independent weaponry for the KanMusu without getting at least one alarm bell running.’

‘Because the fairies would never think that you humans would be capable of such a perversion.’ She snorts, smirking as she taps your chin. ‘Isn’t the irony just grand?’

You don’t return the sentiment.

‘What else can you tell me about this?’ You press on; as long as she was talking, you might as well put something else on the table. There was no harm in being a little bit more curious – you had the folder in your hands, as it was.

‘The project went by the name of RED SON. The Admiralty – the last Grand Lieutenant, specifically – started the project on a small scale; there were initial tests, of course… I don’t think you want to bother with the details, but they ended up being unsuccessful. There was a huge failure rate when they went about implementing the synthetic alchemy into cores… especially without the help of the fairies, it took a lot of patience to find the right kind of calibration.’ She explains, her voice taking a more serious tone than you’d expected. ‘It turns out the more powerful the core, the easier it ease to force a synthetic attunement procedure.’

You give her an incredulous look, finding it hard to imagine Nagato’s friends willingly going with this – she had been so direct and so honest with you… for Yamato and Musashi to put themselves on the block for any of this of their own volition…

‘They went with this?’ You press on, hoping for a clearer answer. ‘Yamato and Musashi?’

‘Division Commander,’ she chides playfully, her eyes playing the part of a hurt‘despite what you think, all this bravado, all this openness… we do as we’re told.’

She closes in on you, hooking herself around your waist and pulling your bodies together.

You turn away, reluctant to look into her shimmering orbs, lest you forget yourself.

I do as I’m told.’

TBC
>>
‘What about the mission?’ You press on, undeterred. ‘If they didn’t want to bother with a search they could have just listed them as KIA.’

She giggles, nuzzling you. If it had been anyone else, you would’ve probably returned the gesture… but seeing just who it was that had pressed herself against your chest, it only makes you feel a lot more uncomfortable – and the smell only made you want to push her.

‘Oh, you’re a smart one.’ She says cheerfully, looking up into your eyes. ‘Now we get to the interesting part of this mystery.’ ‘Both the Admirals and the Vice-Admiral in who were placed in the task force were killed in the Abyssal assault. Although, you don’t need me to tell you that.’ She pulls herself away, half a smile still upon her features. ‘Still, the Admiralty still thinks that they’re recoverable… at least we know where they are. It’s good to know that they’re healthy.’ She sighs melodramatically. ‘For whatever measure of healthy it is, anyway.’

Taigei absent-mindedly brings a finger between her legs, a sickening squelch sounding as she drags a knuckle. You don’t look down as a heavy-sounding splat reaches your ears. She moans, biting her bottom lip and looking at you with a pair of half-lidded eyes.

‘They undertook a black operation to intercept what they suspected to be a large invading force. It turns out… they were right. There was a Princess located in the straits – she’d somehow slipped by the warning system and caught the Admiralty off-guard.’ You grit your teeth as the scene plays in your head, praying that they would not move as you thought they would. ‘The joint force was overconfident, of course… the Admirals and the Vice-Admiral perished at the hands of the Princess, no quarter given and a dozen KanMusu met their ends.’

You grimace. Of course the Admiralty would take that course of action.

‘Why wouldn’t have anyone picked up on that, then?’

‘Because within 24 hours, the Abyssal counterattack happened.’ She looks at you incredulously. ‘The Admiralty saw it as an opportunity to cut their losses and return to the status quo – KanMusu die so that humanity might live. It is the accepted way of things.’

You keep your emotional part from latching on – you were almost there.

‘So where are they?’ You try not to sound too hopeful, but your arms flailing by your side tell more than your words could. ‘The straits? Why wasn’t there a rescue force sent – ?’

‘Division Commander… how can you miss just why things are as troubling as they are?’ She smirks, bending over. ‘You see, they were recovered… before any could organize one.’

Your eyes widen: The Straits.

‘They’re in the hands of the Haszad Union.’

‘There’s no Admiralty branch there.’ You frown, confused.

‘Mm-hm.’ Taigei hums absent-mindedly.

‘The Haszad Union refused to be a part of the Fairy-Human talks.’

Even as the words left your mouth, you found it to be a horrible excuse.

‘Oh, that’s a misconception.’ Taigei educates you. ‘See, Basilius and the Haszad Union could not come to terms with how the power of the fairies would be used. The Government of Haszad was especially annoyed that… they wouldn’t be allowed to… benefit from the Admiralty’s progress.’

Taigei smirks as the words sink into your head.

Benefit?’

You find yourself angry – angrier than you would have thought yourself to be before. They had lost millions in the last fifteen years of war against a foe that they wouldn’t have stood a chance against without the Shamans or the Fairies… and that was what the Haszad Union wanted? Benefits? Their oceans were being swallowed by a dark tide, their coasts turned into mass graves and the one thing that they had on their minds was how they could gain from the deal? You feel your veins popping – your prosthetic clenches as you grit your teeth, feeling the urge to just sock someone in.

Taigei, reading the mood, thankfully moves away from you, resting her form against the desk.

‘They wanted the fairies to share their knowledge with them as much as they did the Admiralty and the Shamans. The Shamans, therefore Basilius, refused to comply and thus decided that they were not needed – lest that knowledge fall into the wrong hands.’ She says, her face for the first time taking a stern expression. ‘Which is why the Vanzer Kingdom and the others were given permission to contact the fairies.’ She snorts. ‘So you see, they didn’t refuse – they were in fact, kicked out of the talks. They were only allowed to say that much at the gathering of the League of Nations to save face.’

You couldn’t believe your ears.

All this… in the name of self-interest?

‘It’s all very, very convoluted.’ She adds, ‘I don’t think I have enough paper in here to fill out whatever agenda was on their minds.’

‘It would have been nice to have a few more allies, though, considering where we are now.’ You grimace.

Even you don’t buy it. You don’t know why you say it… why defend something so utterly selfish? How could you do it?’

‘After what you’ve seen from the Admiralty,’ Taigei’s voice takes an odd tone now, and she approaches you slowly, ‘do you really think having that knowledge out in the open would have made it any better for us?’

No

‘I…’ You look away. ‘I don’t know.’

Her hands cup your cheeks.

‘Oh, dear Commander, how optimistic of you.’

We still need to figure out where the Yamatos are exactly, assemble a human team to deal with people in the way, talk with our KanMusu and choose some of them to deal with the Abyssals on the way, find a way to sneak past the Abyssal blockade and get to Haszad, possibly modify the RAY because it's our only transport so far, get Yuubari, Akashi and the Admiral's permissions to modify the RAY and undertake the mission, figure out a way to hide our absence from the rest of the Admiralty, and then actually do the mission.

We're probably looking at more than a few days preparation.

>>
‘The Admiralty is all right with this?’ You let out, incredulous.

She cocks her head to one side, reveling in your naivete.

‘The Admiralty has been trying to negotiate their release.’ Taigei answers crisply. ‘So far, they’ve shut down almost every attempt at establishing more than the most basic of communiques – and given just how long it takes to correspond with the mainland, there’s not much that has been discussed since their… detainment.’

An anxiety that you hadn’t expected to come over you… does. You’re not sure why this had suddenly felt so personal for you; why the way things had happened, how they had happened… it was unreal. You’d watched films before; there’d always be that one hero, a grizzled policeman or a soldier who was always asked to turn in their badge – and how they’d break down just what they thought the badge meant, what it symbolized, more than the men and women behind it, more than the organization.

You don’t know why the thought comes to mind at a time like this.

Maybe it was because just how much the badge was a part of you now… and how you were a part of it.

‘How are they?’ You say softly.

‘Alive.’ She smiles again – and again, it doesn’t quite reach her eyes. ‘That’s the only answer the Admiralty’s given. However,’ she brings up a few fingers, making an act of counting them down. ‘Considering that they’ve been away from the hands of a fairy or a Commander… it’s safe to assume that whatever that the Haszad Union has subjected them to… they’re not going to last longer. KanMusu are not meant to go ungrounded for so long… and with their Admiral gone…’

‘Have they used all possible channels?’ You ask again, curious. ‘There must be someone at the League of Nations that can help them? What about one of the Shamans?’

Her eyes widen and her cheeks puff, before she lets out a bark of laughter that leaves you flustered and embarrassed.

‘Are you honestly going to believe that the Shaman is not going to wonder just why in the world a nation that has no say in KanMusu matters are holding them?’ She says, a venom in her voice that you hadn’t heard from before. ‘How about about how they ended up in the Straits? Why there had been an intercept course on a Princess that went unrecorded and covered up?’ She throws her head back again, giggling madly. ‘How would the Fairies react?’

‘What can we do, then?’

‘Nothing.’ She giggles. ‘Although, I suspect your Admiral might have a few things to say about that course of action.’

After a few moments of silence… you decide there’s nothing more she can tell you.

‘Wait.’ She calls out to you. ‘Before you leave… I think I deserve a little something.’

She presents herself, spreading her cheeks so wide you can see the white dripping from her gap.

‘Indulge me.’

‘Thank you, Miss Taigei.’ You avert your eyes. The words of thanks are more out of courtesy than outright appreciation, but you put them out anyway. ‘I’m sorry for taking so much of your time.’

You got for the door.

‘Commander, leaving so soon?’

A hand grabs your free wrist. Not quite pulling… but enough of a grip that you would need a show of force to detach it properly – reluctantly looking back, you see Taigei, a cat-like grin playing upon her features as she looks up at you with her prominently glazed features with a look that seemed to beg for you to stay… but felt dangerous enough that you let your guard up. Taigei wasn’t forcing you to stay, no, but she didn’t seem like she was keen on the idea of you leaving her wanting after interrupting her orgy and throwing her off on every attempt to entice you into her bosom.

Maybe you would have, once upon a time.

Let go.’ You say, simply.

She does.

‘Please send the Admiral my greetings. It was so hard to part the way we did.’ She chuckles darkly, moving away. ‘Oh, and one more thing, Commander… I believe this KanMusu is on your base, so if you could pass on the message, it would mean the absolute world to me…’

‘I’m all ears.’ That much you could do, you suppose.

‘Please tell Houshou that I miss our little get-togethers. They’re just not the same without her.’

You feel your throat tighten at the mention of Houshou’s name as Taigei drops into a respectful – or an attempt at it – bow, licking her lips as she rises her head to meet your eyes. You give her a curt nod, making her giggle and straighten back up. She moans as you leave the office and enter the hall; the men from before were nowhere to be seen… on the wall, you spy that it was already past 10. You hadn’t realized that your excursion here had taken so long.

‘Goodbye, Commander.’ She says in an amused tone of voice. ‘And good luck.’

Taigei continues to giggle as you leave her door and make your way to the Entrance Hall.

It isn’t that long until you’re there – the only people you see being a pair of guards, not MPs, handling rifles and giving you acknowledging looks while you make your way down the stairs and past the large doors into the cool night air. Your driver, upon seeing you exit the building, drops into a formal salute.

‘Sir!’

‘Back to Yokosuka. We’re done.’

You hop into the passenger’s seat as he does the same into the driver’s.

‘You can go ahead and take a nap, sir.’ Your driver says as he revs the jeep’s engine. ‘I’ll wake you up when we get back.’

You decide to take his advice. There would be a lot to do tomorrow morning – you would have to talk to the Admiral and the Vice-Admiral… not to mention decide on how to tell Nagato that her friends were used and effectively left as political leverage, but for now…

‘Thanks.’

Sleep

END DAY 22
>>
>>630947

A question, how are relations between our nation and the union as of now.
>>
>>630949
It's shaky. Haszad's main quarrel is with the Not!Africa continent, whose geo-political state changes so rapidly there are no real borders. Haszad doesn't have that large a presence as a naval power and have no use for fisheries outside of luxury and are very much rich in resources.

The public story is that they did not wish to take part in the Human-Fairy alliance, but now you know better. Still, Haszad and Taiyouga tolerate each other - there's not much bad blood left... but they really don't like that they were kicked out of the alliance when the League of Nations didn't give in to their demands of reaping the benefits of the alliance for their own gain.

tl;dr "How dare you treat me like that".
>>
>>630958
What does taiyouga stand to lose if we do a black ops attack to free the two girls. As in ties, trade relations etc.
>>
>>630975
That's what you're going to see the Admiral about. There's no way you're going to pull this off being gung-ho. I think, even as meta-gamers, you Questers know that much.
>>
>>630980
well first its seeing the worst case scenarios and working backwards from there till a suitable solution is found.
>>
>>630981
thats war, hoss
we are going to put full on, no frills, war material on a country that might take it as an act of war

the term deniable assets comes to mind
we need a TEAM of solid snakes here

and fuck me if i know where to get em
>>
>>631028

Honestly, it depends on how bad the overall situation is.

A war with the union isn't that horrible when you consider that they'll have to traverse Abyssal and princess infested waters just to land troops. If the strategic situation is bad enough that we cannot sustain or consolidate our situation without the two yamato classes, it would actually be preferable to swipe the two back and deal with the fallout later.

Of course, this would be a worst case scenario.
>>
>>631049
indeed, this we have to avoid

but the deiable assets, someone, or a group of pepole, going metal gear solid on it
its not 100% a goverment screaming "WAARRR" situation epecialy if they have to uncover that they have captive 2 superbattleships

we could work that
>>
>>631049
>>631059
The Union doesn't have neither Shaman support nor any Kanmusu, meaning that they really wont be able to retaliate, so deniable ops would be our best bet in saving the Yamatos, but we should still be prepared for open fighting if needed.
As for the team we need to talk with the VA since he is the only ranger we even know, with him and the Admiral potentially helping us we might stand a decent chance at pulling this off, that is if we can find where their being kept at first.
>>
>>631065
since this is the clostest think to black ops i know, who do we involve? this is kind of stuff that marks you forever in the court of admirals

im not saing that VC is a bad idea, he is probably our best chance, but he cant do it alone, who teams with him
>>
>>631065

The liability goes both ways. Kanmusu are forbidden from attacking humans. This means our girls can't join the assault.

We'll be stuck with just infiltration in and out with only human tech and the RAY. If we have to go loud, the girls can't fight.

>>631069

With any luck the admiral and Vice probably can pull on some trustworthy folks we might be able to use. Surprisingly, the GL himself might support this operation.

We and other deniable assets move in to extract 2 super battleships. If we win, we get the two yamatos back along with their previous investment into fairy weapons. If we fail, they can just write us off as rogue elements and bear no repercussions.
>>
>>631074
as i see:
Vice will have to do the heavy lifting, so needs a hand
us, we stream the yamatos, and get them out, unless its a bad idea, plus the yamatos cant be in a good shape
we still need transpr and support, and someone that knows the place itself whould be usefull
>>
>>631074
>>631085
As i see it the Admiral will handle all the cover up and other background tasks, the VA might be able to get some rangers together or generally people he used to know that dont want to feel useless anymore, we're obviously gonna bring our division for the trip there and back since we wont be getting past the abyssals otherwise. As for support our best bet is Akashi herself, or any other support Kanmusu aside from our usual stuff.
Lets also not forget that Kanmusu are forbidden from harming humans, but I dont think that applies to lifeless objects so they might be able to support us if the need arises.
>>
>>631089
i think we should cut bringing kanmusu,
actually hosho has medical knowlege and is a carrier, we could use her to cover our backs

epecially because if we bring akashi on "a trip" the amount of alarms it will activate must be huge
>>
>>631085
>>631089

>but I dont think that applies to lifeless objects so they might be able to support us if the need arises.

I'm not so sure on that last point. Just Takao pointing her weapons at the thugs almost got her into some serious shit. Flinging iron at the vicinity of humans, even if only to target structures, is going to be alot worse and i'd rather not chance something like that.

We still have a day before the sub comes, if us, the Admiral and the vice together have no idea on where they might be held, I'd suggest we take the next day to go on a 'recon mission' near the union shoreline. Kaga or Houshou should be able to fire off recon planes for us to try and get a fix of their position and the surround base layout so that we can better plan out our extraction plans.
>>
>>631098
The real issue here is how soon we launch this operation, since right now most of our heavy hitters are in cooldown, and we have no idea what the abyssal presence between us and the Union, that alone could cut this mission short.
>>
>>631115
the launch is ASAP, the moment we get the team we launch,
as for the abyssals, we might have to risk it
>>
>>631121
Its not as much of risking it as it is to be prepared, thankfully we still have Takao and Shigure around for fighting, and Houshou for recon, the question is who the 4th member is,The Bad Luck Magnet or the Newbie
>>
>>631123
>implying we have any luck whatsoever
>>
Outside, you hear the sound of rumbling thunder and the pitter-patter of rain – you can even make out the sound of the waves from this side of town… in these barracks. You rub your temples as you rise from your sleeping bag – newly-issued, along with the new set of toiletries that sat by the door – and look around. It was still dark, still early… there isn’t much light, but on the wall, you make out the time… it was 0620. To your right, you see Kaga splayed all over the mattress, lightly snoring. You rub your eyes, yawning as you unzip the bag… instantly welcoming a cool sensation upon the skin of your legs.

‘So it’s raining…’ You grumble, rubbing your jaw.

You quickly shut your mouth, training your eyes to the stirring Kaga… who goes motionless again. You look to the dark ceiling; this was the first shower you’d had in days… more precisely, the first sight of rain since you’d been at the MASH recovering from your wounds. There’d been dark clouds here and there, but rain had been scarce since – you muse that some poor soul in the mountains now didn’t have to worry about sacrificing a rabbit to bring about the raincloud.

Getting to your feet, your decide, for once, to get a headstart on the KanMusu. Granted, the days as a Commander in the Admiralty weren’t anywhere – or rather, didn’t imply – near what a military cadet or an active duty grunt would be up to do, making rounds around the camp… but it never didn’t pay to not set one as an example. Especially now that you had LEIA around, you think that you now had a sort of obligation to show that you were worth as much trust as she had asked you to place in her.

You rub your shoulders as the cold fully hits you now, before you pull back your flesh hand from your metallic forearm. That had been an exercise in futility, if there was one. You flex your prosthetic – you’d grown fully accustomed to it in the last few weeks… you’d thought that it would have been cool to have one back then, but right now it didn’t feel any different from having a normal limb.

Albeit, one made of Kantai Steel and pretty much resistant to almost every form of physical pain imaginable.

Again, you rub your left shoulder, throwing a glance to Kaga – she was still asleep. You snort; for once you wanted to show that you weren’t mooching on her hair care products. Stripping yourself of the standard issue pajamas, you throw them onto the corner by the door and go into the dark corridor…

Where, curiously, you see that the light for the washroom is open.

You approach the toilet, not caring – it might just be an early riser, all things considered… then again, it could be one of your two new arrivals… one of which who you hadn’t met yet.

Iowa had arrived yesterday, if the memo on your desk was anything to go by. Not to mention LEIA being here...

Ya'll remember we got the ORB gear right? So long as we keep our team low-powered, the RAY flying low and with a whole lot of luck we may be able to get to the Union under the Abyssal radar.

Of course there's still the issue of actually finding the Yamatos. If the description of coastline devastation is true, then we'd need to go deeper inland to get to them.
>>
>>631420
is it on our storeage still? well, if it is we can cross the sea with some undercover escorts
>>

Remember it disables all weapons on a Kanmusu virtually leaving them naked, not to mention the issue here also being our RAY is visible, not enough to get us caught when doing missions near our own shore but probably enough to get caught when crossing to a different land.
>>
>>631424
yeah did think that...
hosho and some radio equipment will foot the bill in case of we need suport at ground

when going there hosho and a strong DD whould probably be strong enough for abyss patrols, and weak/small enough to not trigger any alarms
>>
>>631424
IIRC our RAY is stealthy enough to keep the Abyssals from realizing it's immediately there. Considering we'll be crossing Oni and Princess-infested waters, avoiding Abyssal patrols entirely might be better.

‘LEIA, is that you?’ You call out into the washroom. You weren’t quite willing to shock her in your birthday suit just yet.

‘Who’s LEIA?’

Immediately, a woman pops out of the washroom, clad in a towel.

It’s not LEIA.

The first thing you notice about her is her height – unlike Nagato and Kaga who were about your height and came just short respectively, this woman had about an inch or two on you. She gazes down upon you with an entrancing pair of eyes – there seemed to be a shimmer, not a metaphorical one, but an honest-to-goodness shine to them, like twinkling stars, peering at you somewhere between confusion and curiosity. There was a quality of playfulness to her, even with the scrunched up expression that she had on her, the frown not quite vanquishing the energy and vibrancy of her person. Her face was heart-shaped, foreign and exotic… features neither young nor old, but for you, she is very much the picture of a – and you really couldn’t help but think this – beauty queen. Far from you to take into stock one’s looks… but the closest you could relate this woman’s looks were to those old pageants where they went on stage, giggling pretty faces with not an ounce of intelligence between them.

Her hair is long, thick, fluffy and very light yellow. With your back against the dark and her framed against the light of the door, it looked like a mussed up fluff of cotton more than a head of hair. That’s not even going to the fact that, to go along with her size… she was rather built in all aspects; it was an intimidating combination of beauty, power and experience.

As much as it was your first time meeting her… you could tell that that body had seen its fair share of punishment and war, those eyes even more so.

‘Uh… um…’ You gather yourself, raising. ‘Good morning.’

‘Good morning.’ She raises a hand into a formal salute, still looking down on you. ‘Commander, I presume.’

‘Um, yea – !’

‘Battleship Iowa.’ She says in a neutral tone, offering her hand for you to shake. You numbly do, noticing her grip is a lot stronger than Nagato’s had been. ‘I’ll be your guest for the foreseeable future, sir.’

Now that you saw her… you could understand why Nagato had been so intimidated.

‘Welcome to the First Operations Division.’ You manage with a nod.

Iowa’s lips thin into a line and she walks back into the washroom, you following her. She moves to one of the sinks, looking into the mirror and brushing her hair away with her hands, frowning. You set up right next to her; she doesn’t bother acknowledging you, throwing her reflection a series of troubled looks, sighing and muttering under her breath as she tends to herself.

‘How are you feeling?’ You inquire, concerned.

After being at sea for more than three weeks, you would’ve thought that she’d need more than just a few days to feel right as rain. She stood before you now, while not quite the picture of health, very much in the opposite kind of condition you’d expected from someone that you and the Vice-Admiral, along with your respective crews, had pulled in from the clutches of the deep. Her eyes showed tell-tale signs of being a little bit more tired than one should usually be… but it was still dark and barely past six; no other person would be so chipper with the rumbling thunder outside and the now-heavy patter of the rain.

‘How do you think I’m feeling?’ She finally answers, turning to you.

There is a small edge to her voice; one that showed an adversity to contact. It reminds you, strangely enough, of Nachi’s antagonistic tone, only rather than insulting, there was something a quality that craved distance to it. She didn’t want you to bother her. Your first instinct is to shut up and get to brushing your teeth, but considering that she was, under all circumstances, your guest, you can’t help but stand your ground on this one. You move to press further, despite all warnings not to.

‘I don’t know.’ You answer honestly. ‘That’s why I’m asking.’

She doesn’t reply.

You think that, for now, this is enough. Three weeks without anyone to talk to and Abyssals on your tail would be enough to make anyone a mess of rudeness and snappy comments. The fact that she hadn’t lashed out at you the moment you’d opened your mouth was what you perceived to be the sign to stop… if she wanted to open up to anyone, even if it wasn’t you, it would be on her own time.

Brushing your teeth, you remind yourself that she wasn’t one of yours… merely a temporary guest until the Admiralty got her sorted out. It troubled you slightly to think that there was a similarity to doing what you thought would be a Submarine’s job – by Nagato’s and Takao’s description of it – but at this point… you just hope to roll with it.

She brushes her hair back and heads past the partition as a crack of thunder sounds loudly outside, leaving you to finish up. The shower sounds almost immediately after. A few minutes later, you finish up yourself; tossing your towel and to the rack, stepping into the group showers to start your own ritual.

Iowa hums under her shower, ignoring you. Not bothering to bother her anymore, you rest your back against the partition after you turn the knobs.

She finally turns, and your eyes meet…

‘EEK!’

She shrieks, covering herself up huddling in a corner.

Wh – What do you think you’re doing?!

‘What does it look like I’m doing?’ You frown, putting your hand under the shower and smirking. As much as you liked to play along, it was still the early hours of the morning; you finally had a head start, a definitive one, on the other KanMusu and you didn’t feel like relinquishing it one bit. ‘I’m having a shower.’

Iowa’s expression almost makes you take a step back – buck naked, her eyes are wide open in fear and shock with her right arm covering – though by the size of them she could use another – the span of her chest as best as she can. Her left hand was shoved right down between her legs, her thighs pressed together as though she was trying to hold in a toilet run. It amazed you that despite the sheer size – never mind the probably class advantage that she held one you – that the closest thing you could relate her to at the moment was a cornered, frightened kitten.

You pay it no heed, though, stepping underneath your own shower head and pouring the contents of your newly-issued shower gel… you let out a disgusted face as it makes contact with your palm. It’s an odd, odorless, viscous, black liquid gel and you have half a mind to drop it onto the shower floor soon after. Still, beggars couldn’t be choosers, and you couldn’t well walk back wet and partway through a shower to mooch Kaga of her toiletries again… there were limits, after all.

Don’t you have any decency?!’

Iowa’s shriek catches your attention again, and her features, scrunched with disdain and… fear? Was she scared of you or something? Impossible. Why would she be afraid of you when she could knock you seven ways across town?

‘Yes.’ You answer bluntly, going back to your shower immediately. Despite having met her mumbling responses not moments ago when you were brushing your teeth… you find that the situation had been more preferable than the hysterics she was dispensing now.

‘Get out of here, now!’

You frown, now feeling your own annoyance rise. She had been perfectly fine shutting you down and now she was making demands of you? You turn to her, adamant on making the point that despite her being the guest, you were still a Commander.

What your eyes see as you turn to her, though… is an expression you didn’t quite expect to see on a KanMusu that Nagato had deemed threatening enough to her station.

‘Just get out of here, please!’ She practically begs, seemingly struggling to hold herself up. ‘Please, just go… please!’

It actually looks like, despite the drops of the shower distorting your view, that she’s in tears.

Your first instinct is to approach her and ask her what the hysterics were about… but as soon as you raise your prosthetic, you see that she shrinks even further. The shock is gone from her eyes, immediately replaced with fear. She huddles herself even tighter, shivering even more violently as she holds herself up. She looked the part of a cornered animal… but in her gaze you see the one thing that you hadn’t expected any KanMusu to have – you had seen them cry, rage and laugh.

You’d never seen one with the creep of resignation behind a pair of such brilliant blue. Sighing and chastising yourself, you bring your prosthetic down and turn off the shower.

‘Fine. All right.’ You raise your other hand as a gesture of compliance, feeling immediately guilty – whatever it was, your presence wasn’t going to make it any better. ‘Take it easy.’

She nods frantically – the desperation in her actions only make you feel much guiltier than you already were before, being the unwitting instigator to garner this sort of reaction out of her. You don’t question it any further – now wasn’t the time – seeing as she wanted you gone from her sight as soon as possible. She slowly pushes herself off the wall; you roll your shower gel bottle and shampoo over by her feet, turning around to leave.

Iowa looks at the bottles in confusion.

‘I see you don’t have any soap; no use taking a shower if you don’t have something to wash yourself of.’ You explain – it’s a gesture of apology from you… for whatever it was that you did. ‘I’ll just use it when you’re done.’

You leave the shower, grabbing your towel and heading to the sink area. On the other side of the partition, the only sound that you can hear is the pitter-patter of the water against the floor… and the occasional crack of thunder outside. You sigh, running a hand through your hair – this was not how you’d envisioned your first meeting with a KanMusu. You could have gone through the normal comedy routine of a yell and the exchange of barbs, but this? Iowa didn’t just look at you with disdain – that you could handle – she had looked at you and felt scared?

The more vain part of you suggested that it was probably because you were still quite overweight.

After about 20 minutes of contemplating just where you had gone wrong, leaning against the sink counter, Iowa steps out… clad in her towel, her expression as neutral as it had been before.

‘I’m sorry about that, sir.’ She doesn’t look at you – you can barely hear her as it was. She looked like she had just finished crying.

She motions to leave.

‘It’s all right.’ You assure her softly, nodding and pushing off the counter. You look around – it’s a wonder that the scene hadn’t woken up the rest of the barracks; Iowa herself has a firm grip on her towel as she turns around, ‘Would you mind telling me what that was all about?’

Y – You should know!’ Her cheeks turn red as she clutches the edge of her towel, keeping it from falling. It’s quite an effort, considering her bosom.

‘I should?’ You frown, now confused.

Immediately, she rounds on you.

‘Walking in on a girl like that!’ She angrily spits out, making you back up. ‘I swear, it’s men like you that give guys a bad name!’

‘I don’t get it.’ You frown now, hands on your hips. ‘I shower with my KanMusu all the time – there’s nothing…’

You trail off – any more and she would have picked up on the lie.

Just keep digging; just keep digging; just keep digging, digging, digging…

‘O – Of course they won’t mind! They’re your Squadron!’ She sniffles – sniffles.

‘I don’t think I get the significance.’ Really, you don’t. You feel like an idiot for saying it, but you feel like it would be better to get more clarification on the matter rather than just trudge through with guesswork. ‘I apologize. I’m barely three weeks into this job and… I’m not aware of all the details concerning KanMusu culture. Maybe I should be a little bit more sensitive about these things.’

‘Damn right you should.’

Damn right you should.

‘So would you mind clearing things up for me?’ You inquire with an honest tone. ‘I don’t like thinking that my first direct assignment from the Admiralty would have it out for me after the first meeting. I’ll apologize again if I need to, but I need you to make it clear how I’ve gone wrong.’

Iowa grumbles, gritting her teeth.

‘The Stream.’ She bites out. ‘Why do you think they’re okay with seeing you buck naked? When you’ve gone through – or expected to go through that, of course seeing you like that isn’t going to count for nothing.

You open your mouth, before remembering Houshou’s, Kaga’s… and everyone’s words on just why they were so casual around you off-hours. You turn a little red and pinch the bridge of your nose, chastising yourself from forgetting that particular detail of your relationship with your Division members. You meet her – now slightly softened – gaze as a thought itches at the back of your head.

That still didn’t explain the fear you’d seen in her eyes.

‘Is that why you were so scared of me back there?’

Iowa looks taken aback by your inquiry. You move to say something more, but find the words stuck in your throat as her whole form trembles. Her eyes shimmer with a dangerous glint, and you brace yourself to be throttled something fierce as she takes a few steps towards you, one hand balled into a fist – in frustration, in indignation… in whatever emotion that she was showing now. You feel yourself ball your own prosthetic hand, ready to put up a block if she followed through with the implied threat.

She doesn’t, but she does get right in your face – a warning look to keep away from whatever curiosity you had over the matter.

That’s none of your business.’ She snarls – the way she bared her teeth, it looked like she was going to bite a chunk out of you.

She turns on her heel, but not before giving you one last glare over her shoulder, disappearing down the dark corridor and leaving you to your lonesome. Taking off your towel, you head for the shower.

It had looked like such a good start to the day, too.

Smooth, Mr Commander, you chide yourself, don’t you just know the right things to say?

Outside, the thunder crackles loudly.

I meant in the RAY during retrieval but then I realized that's pretty unlikely.

Let's gather what we know about Iowa:
Admiral received her call for help. Why him specifically? He didn't appear to know who it was from.
She served before but did she operate in same way as our girls do?
The wording on Iowa's explanation was a bit weird
>When you’ve gone through – or expected to go through that, of course seeing you like that isn’t going to count for nothing.
>expected
Maybe something happened before she entered someone's stream? or maybe she has a warped understanding of what it is.
There must have been some pretty heavy trauma.
She's uncomfortable with "men like us"
There was a specific reason she's the only Vanzer boatgirl.
The fact that linking is done in the RAY is a hint.

From that I have a couple ideas but it's late and I'm barely awake.

Maybe when she served she was always directly controlled by her commander. That was said to be very traumatic and akin to rape for kanmusu.
Maybe that's it, maybe I'm overthinking it but speculating is fun.

In the dark, you manage to put on your formal uniform without waking up a Kaga. An incredible feat, if you would say so yourself. Grabbing your memo – the one that you’d left to say that you were heading for HQ, and had to hand back in this morning – you make for the door, again into the dark corridor. It’s empty as it was before… outside, the rain just goes harder and harder; you can actually hear it beating against the walls of the barracks now.

The wind had picked up as well.

You make your way down the stairs – the clock by the landing states it’s not even 7 yet. You walk down to the Common Hall, clean as a whistle; even your desk looked like it had been given a good shine. A flash of lightning strikes outside – the wind’s stronger than before now… but it’s not a storm worthy of a warning; just some really bad weather. You flick on the lights to give you a better look at the room – you never knew when you would just step in something unsavory. After working in a kitchen, you weren’t quite willing to take chances.

You make your way to the kitchen counter to set up your breakfast – there had just been a re-stock last night while you had been away with your visit to Admiralty HQ. Maybe there would be something other than the usual frozen gruel that they had for the MPs and the crew members on-site. Taking out the knives – which you lament at being horribly below standard – and the bowls – which were only one size – you try to make the best you can with what you had.

The flash of lightning outside startles you… and the loud thunder that follows makes you drop the bread knife onto your foot, handle-first. You grumble as you bend over to pick it up, annoyed that such a simple occurrence had made you –

‘Cooking?’

You scream. Not like a little girl, of course.

It was Iowa again – of course it was, she had been the only soul you’d seen this morning. The others, if they were even stirring, wouldn’t even be in the showers by now.

‘That’s cooking, sir.’ You sigh, moving to give the knife a good rinse. Tea. It’s the word that comes to your mind – not because you had a particular inclination to it, but because the Admiralty, for some twisted reason, had a rather good batch in their MRE and supply cans. ‘And yes, I am. Breakfast. And tea.’

You frown and wonder if your last boss hadn’t rubbed off on you more than you’d thought.

You turn the faucet on, pouring water into a nearby kettle. After turning on the switch, you dig through the cupboards again, this time looking for the tin that held the tea leaves. You recall that they were –

‘Would you mind if I have a cup, Commander?’

>‘I’m not sure if you’d like it. It’s human made.’ (Warn)

‘No, I don’t.’ You reply softly. ‘You’re going to have to wait, though.’

‘I don’t mind.’ She returns a gentle smile… a little forced, you find, but you take what you can get. Having started off on the wrong foot so badly, it was all you could do for now.

You immediately go off, looking for an extra mug. There weren’t any cups around – opening the bottom cupboard, you frown as you realize that this particular part of the kitchen space was anything but properly maintained; you don’t even know why you’d looked here… there hadn’t been anything stashed here by your or the KanMusu. Grumbling, you raise your head and – make contact with the wooden top, a resounding bang hitting your ears.

You swear under your breath. They may have been old, but they were sturdy.

‘Need help?’

‘I’m fine.’ You bite out, coarser than you’d intended to; she may have meant well, but as an ex-kitchen-hand, it was a little bit irritating to have your domain entrenched upon. By a guest, no less. Even if you were a failure and a reject, you still had your pride in certain things. ‘Just… looking for a mug.’

‘You don’t need to bother if it’s such a – !’

I just said.’ You turn your head around, throwing her the most pleasant look you could muster. ‘I’m just looking for a mug.’

She snorts, looking away.

Getting to your feet, you open the top cupboard, where… you had always taken the mugs and cups from

You let out a low sound as the kettle whistles… and bang your knee against the still-open doors of the lower cupboard. You wince and clutch it, biting your lower lip – these things were sturdy – it was a wonder that the building had been abandoned in the first place. You muse that maybe you could hack off a panel and use it to beat one of the Princesses into submission.

Iowa leans over the counter to gaze at your crouching form, tearfully rubbing your kneecap, but otherwise not saying a word. For that, at least, you’re thankful – you didn’t know how far word traveled from her mouth, but considering the gossip that already went around town that involved your endeavors…

You get to your feet, Iowa’s eyes still trained on you walk – no, hobble – your way to the kettle. Grabbing one of the cans off the counter, you open the lid with your knife, depositing the contents into both mugs before pouring the hot water into each of them. One for Iowa, and one for you.

‘Thank you.’ She says honestly, a small smile on her features.

You drink yours – it burns your lips a bit, but compared your pride…

‘My dad used to… do this for me every morning.’

Iowa stares into her mug.

‘Your Dad?’

You barely catch your jaw, so shocked you are by the reveal. You hadn’t expected something like that to come to light, of all things; the most that you’d expected after that debacle upstairs had been her to let out some snide comment about how she’d seen others do it better, but this… this was a complete and utter surprise.

My Dad.’ She smiles – there is a joy in the upturn of her lips, but there is a tinge of sadness, mixed with what you could only suspect as pride in her voice. ‘Although, if you met him, he’d probably have you say Admiral, sir.’

‘Oh.’ Your cheeks redden – you felt a bit dumb right now, not picking up on the impossibility of it all. Still, this did seem like a safe enough avenue to find out a little bit more about Iowa. Hopefully it wouldn’t result in an obituary. ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t… that was a little crass of me to…’ You scratch the back of your head, nervous. Iowa, for the most part, doesn’t seem to mind as you try to clumsily say your words. ‘He sounds like quite a guy.’ You manage, trying to zero in on the topic again. ‘What’s that about the tea?’

‘He didn’t want me to stay on base after my summoning.’ Iowa giggles, looking into her mug. ‘He kept yelling how if they had me cooped up in that tube after every operation, he told them to get me something stimulating.

‘Them?’

‘The Vanzerian Admiralty.’ She forces a smile, turning her mug. ‘They were very… possessive of me.’ She bites her lip. ‘After a year of arguing – and when they knew they couldn’t get a replacement, they caved in and I… moved in with him off-base. To his house. He was an old man, you know… fat, big nose, beady little eyes… huge voice. Bigger temper. I think people were more scared of him than any of the Court Representatives.’

You snort, smirking.

‘And every morning when we weren’t out at sea, he’d make this tea – not like this – and go on and on about how it should be made, how it should be made… how the leaves should be grounded. Said that just because I was from Vanzer I didn’t have to be uncivilized when it came to the ceremonial and spiritual side of tea preparation.

‘And one day, when he scolded me and went off… I… I called him Dad.’ Her eyes brighten as she recounts the memory to you.

‘What did he say?’

‘He said Yes.’ Iowa snorts, her shoulders shaking. ‘And since then, he was always Dad to me.’

Iowa’s smile falters a bit; she looks away from you, her expression troubled.

‘What happened to him?’

‘He…’ Iowa begins…

Before she takes her tea in one gulp, setting down the mug.

‘Thanks for the tea.’

The thunder rumbles outside as you motion to say something… but ultimately relent. This was more than what you’d expected from idle conversation. Instead, you take her mug away – she wasn’t asking for more, anyway… and it didn’t look like she was going to bother with another. Iowa moves away wordlessly from the counter, in all likelihood heading back upstairs to sort whatever it was that she had on her mind.

‘Commander?’

You look up to see Iowa, averting her eyes from you, struggling to say something in the middle of the floor.

‘Look… I apologize for acting that way in the showers.’ She reluctantly lets out, ‘I know that you didn’t mean anything by it.’

You wave it off quietly. Iowa drops into a small bow, moving into the hall and up the stairs.

Spying the clock, you make out that it was barely past 7. There was still plenty of time for you to set up something fulfilling for breakfast; with the intention of at least checking on the possibilities, you peer into the storage unit, making out whatever it was that had been set for your to plunder. In one corner you spy two packs of rolled-up Tanaka Salt – even in the temperate state of the unit you can make out its smell, and it was off-limits – right next to a pack of eggs… you could probably make something simple like hard-boiled eggs with that, considering that there was a small bottle of soy sauce on the door of the unit.

There was an assortment of vegetables too – each and every one of them delivered yesterday – carrots, celery and beans… but what really took your attention were the eggplants. It had been such a long time since you’d had boiled and sour eggplants for breakfast… and you actually had a nice mug of tea to offset it, too! Not to mention the options of beans with eggs. But there were also the ration packs on the shelves… you were a man of the Admiralty now; you couldn’t dwell on luxuries forever.

You bite your lip, wondering if you did have time for anything that complicated.

The thunder rumbles, almost in response.

It was raining quite heavily outside… and rather early. You don’t think anyone else among the civilians and the crew would be up – and you definitely know none of them would bother running around. Maybe you could actually afford to treat yourself to something heavy.

That is, if you were in the mood for it anyway.

Scrambled eggs.

They’re the first thing that comes to mind on a morning like this. On a rainy morning by a violent sea, there’s almost nothing better for you to start it all off with some nice scrambled eggs. You had the stove, wonky as it is… and you had the tools to do it. Grabbing two eggs, you hit both of their shells with the blunt side of the blade – the yoke and the white pours right into the bowl with no issue. The real challenge of the matter was doing this without butter – you’d always like some butter in your scrambled eggs.

Maybe that’s why you were so round.

Or had been. Upon inspection in the mirror before, you’d somehow managed to tone it down a little bit. For one… you didn’t have enough width on your belly for two Admirals. Maybe one and a half if you stretched it.

You fire up the stove, setting one of the pans – one of the two issued – on top of it. A nice, heated surface would do. Meanwhile… you could get to stirring. Grabbing one of the small forks – as if there were any others – you take to stirring the batter. A part of you goes back to the Tanaka Salt – the curious, creative chef part of you, if there ever was one – but you decide against it. After that debacle at Mamiya’s you don’t think you want to repeat the event for yourself. You stir the mix a little harder; this particular pair of eggs were a little thick.

Almost on instinct, you turn to the stove – your pan must have been heated enough by now.

You pour the contents into the pan, a light, satisfying hiss reaching your ears as you do so.

You move to grab – you freeze; you’d forgotten to take out the fish slice. Cursing, you open the cupboards to grab one – a small mistake for others, but considering that you had been in the kitchen once upon a time, this was an embarrassment of epic proportions. If your fellow kitchen mates had seen you now…

They’d laugh at you, like they always did.

You gather yourself; you weren’t a kitchen hand anymore… you were a Commander. You are a Commander. A member to the first and only bastion of humanity’s defense against the Abyssals… you would show poise and –

‘Oh, come on.’

You’d forgotten to lower the fire to tepid. Your eggs were heating up too quickly without your stirring… you were about to end up with an omelette. You quickly turn off the fire – your eggs were indeed closer to an omelette now than they were scrambled… you could even see the annoying shade of brown. Still… they were salvageable; it’s not as if you were in the position to be choosy – there were people outside who wouldn’t even be able to touch an egg, let alone eat it.

Cooking on the heat, you’re done within 10 minutes… and set the scrambled meal on your plate.

‘Are – are those scrambled eggs?’

‘Houshou?’

Houshou, clad in her white sleeping kimono – barely out of bed but looking as elegant as ever – stands before you, hands in front and her hair down. She looks a little disheveled, tired… but yes, still very much the picture of elegance. Must be in the way you carried yourself – you don’t think you could ever pull it off as well as Houshou did.

‘Good morning, Commander.’ She greets you with a bow, as she always did. You return it with a nod.

‘Good morning.’ You greet her right back, swirling the mess of eggs in your bowl. ‘You’re up early.’

‘Well, I couldn’t exactly sleep in this.’ She looks to the heavy shower outside; you follow her gaze, agreeing silently.

As if supporting her answer, a bolt of lighting strikes across the sky. You can almost make out the whole ocean, churning and crashing like some sort of chaotic battle front, wave against wave against the shore. The thunder follows after – you can feel it shake the whole barracks.

‘Weather get to you, too?’ You inquire. Another rumble shakes the place, making you frown. ‘Looks like my earlier assumptions were off… this is a storm.’

‘It’s not that bad.’ Houshou assures, propping her elbows on the counter. ‘Compared to how the weather’s been on some of my old operations, this is kind of… refreshing. Calming, even.’

You tap your eyepatch, confused at the insinuation. Had Houshou actually said she liked the weather?’

‘You like storms?’

She hums, looking up at you with those sky blue orbs, hazed in melancholy and want…

‘In my past life I was a ship.’ She sighs wistfully – despite it being part of their name, you never really got around to ‘It may sound a little masochistic to you, but being rocked by the waves? There’s no feel like it. To go back and forth, with the winds and the tide, the men on board yelling and praying that the waters don’t swallow them whole, clinging to me… just thinking about it makes me…’

She trails off, humming in satisfaction. You drop your fork into your bowl, feeling the red come into your cheeks.

‘So, yeah, these are scrambled eggs.’

‘Human style?’

You break out into an immediate apology.

‘I’m sorry, I can get to the stove if y – ?’

‘There’s no need.’ She giggles, raising her hand and giving you a wide grin. ‘Really.’

‘I’m sorry I had to drop everything onto your lap yesterday.’ You blurt out your apology. ‘Things came up and I know I should have told you personally rather than just drop a note.’

‘It’s quite all right.’ She sighs, grimacing. ‘I was a Vice-Admiral once, you know… I know how things are when you’re on call. It’s not all barking orders and playing the boss.’

You chew on your eggs, agreeing.

‘Anything go on last night that I should be aware of?’

Taking another forkful of egg, you might as well catch up on what had happened while you were off-base.

‘Well… nothing to note… although, you might want to put in a good word to the logistics crew that stepped in today. I would’ve made them something nice, but I can’t, you know… cook for people. They were very nice moving all that furniture out and dusting… but I didn’t want them fumigating anything without your permission.’ She bites her lip, looking thoughtful. ‘Their crew number is on your desk; maybe you could do that later?’

‘Consider it done.’

It was always nice to know there were people willing to go above and beyond just to be polite. Maybe you could put in a note there later thanking them for the new shower gel and shampoo, too. You don’t think Kaga would have minded to continue sharing the shampoo… but you suspect people were giving you funny looks because of how girly your hair smelled. That just didn’t fly.

‘Nagato’s still in the MASH, but she’ll be back tonight.’ Houshou lets out with a grumble. That piece of information makes you frown – she’d been practically eviscerated and was to be out after barely a few days? ‘I cleared her forms when you were gone, but Akashi told me that she’s going to need a little bit more time for her stamina to get back to what it was before. The Oni really took it out of her.’

‘Why’s she being released?’ You question, incredulous.

‘She wants to get back to work as soon as she can.’ That was Nagato, all right. ‘She seems to be under the impression that you and the rest of the Officers on site are, as I quote, a bunch of pushovers unable to say no.’

You chortle – that’s what the Admiral said about you.

‘Hey, that’s what the Admiral said about me.’

Houshou bites her lip, saying nothing.

‘You’re not disagreeing.’

She forces a smile.

Houshou.’ You say her name with betrayal in your voice.

‘I told her about Iowa being our guest,’ she quickly continues, ‘she seemed all right with it, but told me to keep an eye on her.’

‘Nagato doesn’t trust her?’ You’d expected that, a little.

‘More like… Nagato wants her to feel at home.’ That, you didn’t expect. ‘This is all new to her and I understand… after what she’s been through, it’s going to be hard, but as long as she’s here and we can help… I think Nagato’s on board with that. I think all of us are.’

The both of you share a look.

‘And LEIA?’

The energy saps right out of her at the mention of the name.

‘I… I’d really like to skip that topic.’ Her sentences are hesitant and broken… and she puts up a force smile. ‘But she is… comfortable,’ She cocks her head to one side. ‘and a very. Nice. Young. Lady.

You choose not to pursue it.

‘I saw your performance during open mic night. What happened? The day pucker you out?’

It strikes you that this is probably the first opportunity that you had since the time you returned from the rescue mission to actually talk to her about that forgettable performance of hers. While you didn’t want to give yourself too much credit, you thought that the small duet by the beach had done the audience a lot more in terms of sheer enjoyment; in comparison, Houshou’s presence during Open Mic Night garnered a few harrumphs, a succession of yawns and very light applause. You’re no critic, but the contrast was a little too jarring for you not to single out.

‘A bit of that, yes… and I just couldn’t get the energy to play otherwise.’ She sighs, resting her chin on the counter top. ‘When I finally went on stage… it was more of a chore than it was fun.’ She laughs mirthlessly.‘I don’t think I’m cut for the big top.’

‘I thought you were okay.’

Houshou throws you a tired look.

‘You know, when you lie your eyes widen a little… and you get a little hitch in your throat.’

‘I’m sorry,’ you grimace – trust Houshou to be one of the few to be able to read you like a book, ‘you were boring, if I’m being honest here.’

She laughs, rolling her head and resting her cheek on the counter.

‘I apologize.’ She really does; in fact, you think there’s a little too much apology there. ‘I think I played it a little safe.’

Safe?’

She grimaces again, sighing and tapping the surface of the counter.

‘I actually had second thoughts about not having you join me.’ She says honestly; you find that it’s a rather sweet thing to say on her part. ‘But I wanted to stand on my own two feet, for once.’

‘I embarrass you?’ You offer, grimacing as you chew on your breakfast. The eggs weren’t as soggy as you would have liked them to be.

‘Of course not.’ She chortles, smiling in melancholy as she pushes herself up, throwing you a loving gaze. ‘I just… I just wanted to go out there and do my thing. I can’t keep leaning on you for things that don’t involve sex.’

You choke on the latest forkful of egg, prompting her to run around and give you several pats on the back.

‘Wow, just lay it all out there, why don’t you?’ You turn to her, your eyebrows creased. ‘Don’t you have any sense of holding back?’

She responds by running a hand up your thigh… very… slowly…

‘I think I’ve made my intentions apparent by leaving the door to my room unlocked.’ You did not need to know that. ‘You can use any hole that you want… the answer’s always yes, my dear Commander.’ She hums in delight, her touch running shocks down your spine. ‘I’m your little whore whenever you need that itch scratched. Just spread me wide, and – !’

H – Houshou!’ You squeak.

No. That's a bad idea. It wouldn't do anything for the dialogue, and let me tell you why:

In pretty much any military, you call a person by their rank, not their name. The only people who call officers by their last name are LTs, and nobody fucking likes them. It isn't weird to call somebody by their title, people do it all the time.

I'd rather the Commander's name remain ambiguous than have him be literally the only named Admiralty officer in this quest.

Google 'height weight chart male' they're not perfect, but it'll give you a good idea of how overweight our character is when you keep in mind the average height of a japanese male is about 5' 7".

That sounds about right honestly. I weigh 215 and I'm maybe 6'2". Most of it is muscle, but I'm certainly a bit fluffy from recent inactivity. And if the Commander's weight is mostly fat instead of muscle, it makes sense that he'd be a big guy.

And what happens to land that falls into a Princess's sphere of influence? Does it get sunk under water?

THE FOLLOWING OCCURS BETWEEN DAY 7 AND DAY 8

‘Back when I was in the forces, we would’ve been sent to the brig and shot behind the shed for even thinking of pulling off what he did. I still don’t know if he’s just an idiot traipsing through the damn tulips or if he’s an instinctual warlord.’

The Admiral groaned, dropping onto the couch of the now-defunct Yokosuka Police HQ. The place was half-blasted by Abyssal forces… you could get a clear view of the nearby plaza from where he was seated, where several workers did their magic on the town of Yokosuka, hoping to get the place up and running as well as it was before. Before him, in a chair with a broken spine, The Vice-Admiral was seated, the Commander’s folder in his hands. He leafed through it, letting out sounds as he went page to page.

‘We can’t be choosy at this time… it’s going to be a while before we get the talent searchers back up, never mind a whole new batch.’ The Vice-Admiral reasoned. ‘He’s got issues, but nothing that we can’t iron out over time.’ Scrunching his lips thoughtfully into a frown, he adds, ‘Nothing the KanMusu can’t iron out over time, either.’

At the mention of the words, The Admiral took off his hat, rubbing his temples and giving it a good sock. The Vice-Admiral grimaced at the action… no doubt he must have imagined the hat as the visage of the incapacitated Commander. When he got out of the MASH, there would be Hell to pay.

‘We don’t have time to iron out the issues.’ He grumbled. ‘I don’t have time to iron out issues – I need my Commanders now and I need them competent! Not ones making me fill out damn excuse forms that have me spitting at the brass at how I have the damn situation under control!’

The Vice-Admiral crossed his legs at this declaration; a reflex to hide his amusement.

‘He’s dumb as a brick when it comes to protocol but spouts it like it’s a Prophecy; he engaged in hand-to-hand combat with three armed men and beat the tar out of their gang leader in single friggin’ combat in front of his own gang because he saw it as an option when he could have cut his losses and just bent over a little bit more, and – and – !’

‘You like him.’ The Vice-Admiral accused, smiling.

‘God Almighty, I do.’ The Admiral groaned regretfully, burying his head in his hands. ‘I don’t like how he got my men hurt, but he sure as Hell knows how to ad-lib. I saw the jaw on the old Boss. Makes me wish I was there myself.’

They both shared a laugh.

Maybe there was some hope for the pup yet.

‘He’s still a moron, though.’ said The Vice-Admiral, nodding grimly.

‘A pushover.’ chimed The Admiral.

‘Think he’ll learn?’

They shared a sigh as The Vice-Admiral closed the file.

Neither of them dared to answer.

As much as Kaga was loathe to admit it at times, Zuikaku was indeed her best friend. She wasn’t her oldest friend, but the both of them had scraped through things on and off the battlefield often enough that there was probably no one other than each other they would confess things that they would otherwise find uncomfortable to say in public. For example, Kaga, despite being a Carrier, had a great fear of heights; Zuikaku, in comparison, loved human reflex weaponry – rifles, pistols, shotguns… it was a secret she kept from even the fairies and her past Shamans, the ISSF and the Admirals she had been assigned to. There was no one that they would rather have by their side than each other.

So here they both were, in the late evening, sitting on a rock by the beach… watching several handsome, strapping men in tight, tight swimming briefs show off their oiled bodies and spike a volleyball to each other over a makeshift net.

Well… that wasn’t entirely true; Kaga and Zuikaku had just finished their report to the ISSF and were sitting around when the handsome, strapping men in tight, tight swimming briefs had showed up and began blaring their naughty music and flexing their muscles. Being a woman who finally belonged – at least, who believed she did – Kaga didn’t throw them a glance as often as would have before. Not that she didn’t… as steady as the Commander’s stream was… abdominal muscles weren’t that easy to be tired of getting an eyeful of.

Zuikaku, however… wasn’t fooling anyone. Even with that thick book out and her nose buried in its browned pages.

‘Go down there and talk to them.’ growled Kaga, pinching the bridge of her nose. Zuikaku responded by giving her a look of disdain before going back to her book. ‘One of them. All of them – I know you’re not reading that damn book, Zuikaku!’

‘Oh, Kaga, when are you going to stop stepping over my happiness?’ She turned to her friend with a bright smile – one that only made Kaga return it with a look of disgust. ‘I’m not ogling the form of the male persuasion; they just happen to be in my view on this fine day – even if we do not have the seas in our grasps, do we not, at least, share in all else?

‘Do you like the one in the red or the green more?’

‘Yellow.’

Zuikaku, red, covered buried her face in her book.

For the next hour, Kaga did not shut up.

Thats what happens when your ships are cute girls

We would have a very fabulous squad and practice jojo poses all night. Our commander would also need to be buff though.

A lot of people died. And the world is huge - even for a force as big as the Abyssals, crossing oceans and starting offensives is no easy feat. The death toll is upwards of 100 million at last count - it could easily be more. Most coastal cities are gone.

Hey, MECHANIC, I just want to know exactly what was going through your mind when you wrote out scenes like sex with Houshou and Kaga or the Nachi shaving scene. Because the former is an acknowledgement of casual sex, which is honestly unusual in a questing format, and the latter is something I never thought I'd see in any media.
>>
>>643885
Nothing unusual with the former. With the latter, I wanted the Nachi encounter to show just how the Stream rendered the sexual part of the skinship moot... and develop the positive aspect of the relationship between them.

Casual sex is a regular thing. Being a Muslim, I'd be naive to think a girl or guy could actually go through social hoops without even a little acknowledgement of the sexual aspect. There's no way man or woman would throw away that part of the structure. If it were true, we'd all be monks - it's just a part of social culture.

Really? Because 4chan/the internet would have everybody think the opposite, that ya'll are a bunch of oppressive prudes

When I leave the hospital. Baby cousin in bad shape and was admitted. Haven't been in mood to write. Everyone worried.
>>
>>644793
Oh dear. Is he gonna be alright?

Real life comes first.
>>
>>644792
We are prudes. We just know the reason behind us being prudes better tha ln others assume. The Quran preaches a healthy sex life - but only between a man and a woman, and even then, between wife and husband. It's supposed to be a sacred act, but we're not stupid to assume that people don't do it outside of the rules stated - but that's their business.
>>
>>644793
Sorry to hear that man. I hope he gets better soon.
>>
>>644793
Woah. Hope your cousin gets better man.

By baby you mean younger or actual baby?
>>
>>644798
Trouble breathing with a rash all over her body. It actually looked like the scene from Outbreak.

And by baby cousin I mean BABY. Her 3rd birthday is in 3 days.
>>
>>644815
Fuck. Look after your family mate. Take the time you need.
>>
>>644815
>It actually looked like the scene from Outbreak
Jesus Christ. Take all the time you need man.
>>
>>644804
Remember the main ones that 4chan (mainly /pol/) has a problem with are the ones who want Sharia law to supersede the national law, the ones who come Europe for the benefits, and of course the Snackbars who want to kill us.
>>
>>645199
/pol/ has a problem with everyone.
>>
>>645199
Sharia Law only affects Muslims. If you don't live in a country under the caliphate you cannot enforce it.
>>
>>645282
There are those who push for it outside of it. In essence its the people who move to a new country and then bitch because its not like the place they came from
>>
>>645204
and that's the beauty of it. Full of all sorts of people from all over the world with different viewpoints. Even if those viewpoints involve the destruction and genocide of a country or ethnicity. Just want this election to be over with so things go back to normal.
>>
>>645584
/pol/ is always like this. Im sure they will find something else shortly after
>>
>>645581
Muhammad PBUH said not to do that. We forget Christians protected Muslims at the time Muhammad SAW was starting up.
>>
>>645610
He had SAW movie made?
>>645608
There's always going to be something. I think the Indian/Pakistani thing is going to be the next focus if it's at the same level after the November.
>>
>>645610
Zealots man. they pick and choose what parts they want to follow. ISIS is smart enough to take advantage of Europe's PC culture inability to speak out against Islamic culture to slip on in set up shop. Thankfully their stupid enough not to be able to pull anything big.
>>
>>645632
SAW is short for sallā llāhu ʿalay-hi wa-sallam, like how PBUH is used after uttering the name
>>
>>645640
ah, I was imagining a SAW movie Islam style. I'd watch it. Or is that basically ISIS execution videos?
>>
>>645642
Nah, the usual motive of the SAW villain is that those that survive are grateful for being alive. Though I can see this being twisted into a Muslim psycho doing it to innocent people.

Now let's not go any deeper into this rabbit hole and move the topic back to ships and girls
>>
>>645646
Wanna try the game itself but can't arsed to put in the work to make it in english. I should really learn Nip.

Got some really good news. Baby cousin is stable and she'll be allowed to leave in a day or two. Rash should go down in a week or two and the red will be fully gone in a month. The breathing, which was the most worrisome, has been taken care of. According to the Doc it was an allergic reaction to one of the new sprays my uncle used around the house, but she'll be fine. That means I'll be able to start the next thread in several hours.

Sorry for the wait; I'll try to get to it.
>>
>>645962
Great news to hear. That'll be a load of your shoulders.
