What happens when an adventurer and dungeon keeper fall in love?

So the forbidden love continues.

Last time Avis the Adventurer got lost...again. To be fair he is really bad with directions. Despite having compasses even magical ones and despite being 'familiar' with the terrain. He still manages to get lost on a regular basis. On the plus side at least when he gets lost he tends to get so lost not even trouble or danger can follow him. He is special a getting lost like that.

Beyond getting lost Avis trained with some bandits in the art of being sneaky and backstabby. Beyond that Avis trains at the academy and tries to catch up on work as he fell behind when he and his fiance...were 'occupied' before she went on some kind of trip. Avis thus attempted to distract himself by throwing himself into training and work.

It helped he was too broke to afford any other type of distraction. At least until he stumbled upon a game involving a shadow, an undead shroomman, and a chef. Avis took part not only winning the hand but even acquiring the chef's services when Avis bet he would go on adventure to find a legendary ingredient and the chef bet his services.

Avis won.

Old Thread.

The adventuring expo is still several months away. As is the trip planned by some adventuring friends of yours. They plan to go about a month before the expo so as to give them time to investigate the finds they discovered and time to not miss it. Preferably before Hoz's girlfriend returns.

After enjoying the card game as a break and dinner you decide to go back to work. By now its getting rather late but you are a bit more then halfway completed. Shadow School wise you feel confidant in the combat skills section. Problem is the other skills of which are many that you are required to be practiced in. That bit has been causing you some problems.

You decide to continue working. The problem with shadow skills is there is quite a few of them and not all are related to backstabbing and sneaking. Stuff like thieving skills, counterfeiting, appraisal, deciphering, and other many useful shadow or underworld related skills. When your dungeoneering they tend to be..very very useful. Its also why shadow skilled are only behind magic in terms of most sought for adventuring parties. Problem with relying upon magic users is while they do have spells that can do the same thing a magic user only has so much juice which are better used in other ways.

Like healing for instance.

A guy who can swing a sword meanwhile is a dime a dozen. They are cheap and relatively easy to replace. A good thief meanwhile is harder and a magi most of all(damn their long ass training periods).

Basically shadows has an assortment of skills that are vital. Magi focus more towards knowledge, magic use, and general book learning type stuff. Think that those of the shadows have more street knowledge and such.

For adventuring party both are vital to have.

Be aware that it is getting quite late. Useful if you want darker and more shadow related knowledges at the adventuring academy.

I must remind you have 2 leads for shadow skills. 1 is Nova's Bandit Bandit. 2 is the adventurer academy.

You can also time skip and choose to focus on a single task or something. You wont be able to time skip certain things like dungeons but training is time skippable.

The adventurer academy shadow skills are 'supposedly' restricted due to pressures from the powers that be. Technically while its 'restricted' there is no actual restrictions because adventurers know that shit can get you killed. So while they 'officially' follow the rules in truth they are breaking them. Problem is the powers that be can't do anything about that without picking a fight with the adventurers. Not even gods have been known to getaway with that one.

Due to...the hostile reactions adventurers responded by providing advance schooling where there really is no restrictions in what can be learned, but that doesn't mean they went through the trouble of...wiping out all the troublesome and frowned upon information in their basic academy. They just made it so its not so readily available(in lesson plans that the outside powers are allowed to know about)

The teachers themselves are also notorious for being rulebreakers. They cannot give a fuck about the so called rules and will teach anything. Especially during 'tutoring' sessions where they don't have to abide by a lesson plan. Its also common for them to skip classes.

Most of the teachers are in fact semiretired adventurers. Instead of completely retiring they just chose to teach. The difference of how laidback they are is in fact the biggest differentiation between basic adventure academy and advanced. With the more laidback teachers setting in the basic academy.

So enjoy it while it lasts. The teachers in the advanced academy are bunch of unforgiving hard asses.

Skill teacher level is surprisingly equal its just in the basic academy they are more laidback and you have go out of your way to get the better stuff from them. Unlike in the advanced where they forcefully shove their specialized skills and knowledge up your ass and down your throat.

It saves lives though.

Anyway you proceed to practice your shadow skills late into the night.

Time skip and get 'well rounded out' by learning all the basics of Shadow School in the level we can before we are an actual apprentice. Once we have a well rounded basis and know all the skills we are capable of before we actually enter the school, we can try to specialize on other things

Several months later you practiced hard the entire time. Mostly due to not having much better to do that doesn't involve risking your life dungeon raiding.

Soon you hear the adventurer's expo will be commence. You also heard your friends planning to move now. Now especially hastened due to the soon to arrive priestess.

From Boo however you heard that Nova will be back quite soon. She apparently...had a rather rough trip. From him you also heard of a shadow academy that might be interested in you. Separate from the adventuring system good news is it wouldn't cost you your free enrollment from the adventurer resources. Bad news is that they wont be adventurer focused.

Ask our healer friend if he can keep a secret, I bet we've been healed by him and chatted during our many injuries while shadow training.

He's not the only one with an evil partner for life.

Invite him and his Priestess GF to Nova's place, if they swear to keep a secret.

One might ask why in the name of the GODS we are doing such a crazy thing?

. . .turns out VEK wants revenge for a month of his own dungeon core GF. And our close outside friend. Instead of us killing them like before, he has other plans in mind.

Shenanigans involving accidental application of jewlery and clothing to both us and the healer,GF on BF competitions over who can do it better and boyfriend performance, and Nova and priestess bonding occur.

"Hm would not be a half bad idea to seek advice from a fellow couple who is in a similar situation. As for gifts from a foreign dungeon new samples are always useful. Otherwise just get things that a young girl and or vicious warlord would like. Nova isn't that hard."

So you set out to find a certain priestess fortunately for you and most unfortunate for Hol. She came much earlier then expected and successfully caught him before he made his escape to a distant dungeon. When you saw them you noticed poor Hol looked like the life and hope had been sucked right out of him. Priestess meanwhile was positively glowing...

So you set out and then you had a good idea(and totally not because you thought you might get lost on the way there...again). Was that it might not be such a good idea to to take them directly to the dungeon...so you led the way to the bandit base.

Meanwhile at said bandit base a certain warlord with a freshly icy enchanted helm was sipping through a straw in a tankard.

"Rough trip boss," asked Boo.

"...A bit. Any word from the elites and how they are doing? Guess the ones who failed came back right?"

"Yeah boss...but there has been a bit of a situation..."

"...What situation?"

"You know that Shadow recruiter?"

"Ah...what about them? They shouldn't be causing us problems. I don't recruit their targets. So what is the problem?"

"They got word of a certain...young man."

"Ah so what of it?"

"Problem is I can't exactly explain it away, because you know Bascov you aren't exactly known for being 'gay'. While said kid is rather 'young' as well as a potential 'talent'."

"...Fuck and here I thought I could enjoy a break before i have to get some stuff arranged, work done, and another trip prepared...damn it. So not in the mood to deal with one of them."

"Well at least he ain't here."

"Yeah...but man I wanted to get laid. So i am guess shady is still around right?"

"Someplace nearby I would assume. They ain't exactly easy to shake."

"ITS YOU," shouted an Evil Priestess.

"...Wha- OH FUCK," Nova shouted in reply as she leaped up. "How did you fin-" Proceeds to notice you. "Ah...damn it today is SO not my fucking day..."

"BASCOV I been hoping to run into you again! Now i can kick your greedy ass who cannot even shell out a single singed rusted coin."

"Oi how many times do I gotta say it," roars Bascov as he(she) picks up his large weapon. "I AM EXEMPT FROM YOUR CHURCH'S TITHE...Besides I already paid your pantheon's tithe."

"OH THIS IS MORE THEN JUST FAITH RELATED...ITS FUCKING PERSONAL BASCOV YOU GODDAMN ASSHOLE!"

"...Wait really? What for did I like kill your friend or robbed you something?"

"YOU KILLED NO LESS THEN FIVE DOZEN PRIESTS AND SPECIALLY HIRED ADVENTURING PARTIES ESCORTING KEY GOODS...AND KICKED MY PARTIES ASS NO LESS THEN A DOZEN GODDAMN TIMES. And EVERY fucking time we escaped was due to the sacrifice of our comrades!"

"...oh wow yeah okay then," states Bascov matter of factly as he loosens up.
>>
Rolled 99 (1d100)

>>617309
"So I guess it really is personal thing then...well its not like this is the first time this has happend."

Wait really? Come to think of there was that ambush that one time you went with the bandits...is that a REGULAR thing then?

"I Don't even know how the HELL you find out about what they carried Bascov...either way I am going to RIP the soul from your body and let you enjoy a NICE warm trip to hell! I will rend into your SOUL the name of EVERY follower of my Faith you have SLAIN and EVERY SINGLE FUCKING CRIME YOUR BEHIND YOU FAT GODDAMNED SELFISH ROACH OF A SMALL PRICKED ASSHOLE," roars the evil priestess as she starts casting spells. Unleashing a series of demons who gradually coalesce into temporary existence as they are summoned.

"...fat," whispers Bascov. "I AM NOT FAT," screams Bascov as he suddenly darts into very angry action apparently completely missing everything else.

"Ah...never call Bascov Fat," begins Sasha.

"No kidding...guaranteed rage button," agrees Boo as Bascov starts tearing demons apart with a single swing of his weapon while a foul litany of magic emerges from his lips as foul magics begin to arise around him.

"So uh...where is your girlfriend anyway," Hol suddenly remembers to ask as he apparently is actually cheering on Bascov.

"...You know...shouldn't you be CHEERING for your girlfriend instead," you reply.

"Psht as if that guy is doing me a favor!"

Awful quiet this time of day. I gather a lot of the loyal players are from a similar timezone.

>Go get Vek maybe he'll know what to do
In spirit of the continuing action, might we suggest a course of action?
"Vek, I have an idea do you think we could get their fight away from the witness of the other Bandits? We need to get them alone. Then when they are alone and away from the other bandit witnesses, we've got to find something to distract them from their fight. "

"Hoz, what is the ONE thing you know for sure your Priestess GF can't resist? You've known her for so long, I'll owe you a favor if you do it just do it."

Then we do the other thing we know our 'Bascov' can't resist. And without bandit witnesses maybe she'd be able to do it.

...or maybe Vek has a better idea. If he does listen to him.

Don't we have like 7 fatepoints left? Let's spend 1 to make it happen.

"Talk to Boo or Nisha. They can make the bandits scram. That or they'll eventually die due to getting caught up in it," answers Vek.

"Uh...well I know JUST the thing...but wait a second why do you want them to stop fighting? You any idea what this means to me! Especially should Bascov should win man!"

"Oho I know just the thing for am the mighty VEK...also it REALLY helps she been stranded for several months underground."

"Oh no..."

"OH YEAH BABY!"

"Goddamn it Vek not again..."

"Again? I got some special stuffed planned for you two..."

"But in front of friends I mean come on Vek..."

"Well if you don't those two seem very intent on killing each other!"

"You got anything to convince Hoz?"

"...Well those two are remarkably similar temperment I am sure i can figure out something."

"Then its up to Vek...now where to get changed..."

"What do you think bushes are for?"

"But it will be chilly..."

"Wuss."

Soon...soon two men showed up with their 'surprise'. Right on time as the two were rolling in on the ground trying to literally strangle each other to death. This however only lasted as long as the moment they noticed.

and it was SUPER EFFECTIVE~

As both stopped eyes widening...as they then much more slowly and unwillling to look at each other.

"So...Truce?"

"TRUCE!"

With that they swiftly got up and split off charging in your directions.

That was when you heard speak up with "Thank the GODS I already did something earlier..."

That was when you realized something very important...wait a second didn't Vek say he had something planned all along and how winded up she would be from that lengthy trip?

"VE~"

That was when Vek proceeded to start laughing.

"hahahahha oh I am GOOD baby."

"Vek...did you know those two would of reacted like that and create such an opening for you," asked Boo with Nisha perking up nearby to listen in.

"Bah no sadly it WAS a gamble...I figured bout fifty fifty chance of them hating or loving each other. Fortunately I won this bet. As for Avis...heh he wont be the condition to cause me any problems any time soon!"

"Ah I can already hear him screaming for a medic..." notes Nisha.

"Yeah not like that other couple...oh right they are both healers," remembers Boo. "man Vek you can be such a dick."

"Psht why do you think you fuckers and the boss love me so much!"

"So...how long is it going to be this time then Vek?"

"I would say in...bout a month? No wait Nova did some work with you bandits so not quite that long then."

"Are you purposelly trying to screw him over school wise?"

"Nah Nova would kill me for doing that. I am just trying to sabotage some stuff of his without pissing her off. School stuff is off limits."

"So why then..."

"There was a certain trip...now that trip is no longer viable!"

"Ah but the healer vek..."

Fuck it, we need to lick our wounds for a while so this healing has time to sink in.

Delve into our magical practice book and practice/refresh ourselves on Death Demon arts using a simulacrum of that Death Demon we fought in the Legendary Labyrinth. It's been a while since we did that, it's a crucially under-used resource.

Unfortunately for you find out from Hoz's girlfriend that they are already part of party. Some strange party that is a hybrid between usually opposed elements in hope that it could help relations between them. Hoz doesn't seem to hear the last part as he becomes horrified of the concept of being in the same party as her. That second half will no doubt sink in later...

She does say she doesn't mind lending him out to you on occasion, but she makes it abundantly clear that should he die. She will make sure there is a special place in hell for you. Should anything happened to him that displeases her she will do 10x to you.

For the first time he find yourself thankful over how laidback Nova is in comparison...

She was not amused when you said they could wait for the both of you. She says if you try any bullshit just you wait till you see what she has in store for you...

After that you went to see Nova. Only to interrupt a fight between her...and some shadows. 'Bascov' appears to be losing if the inability to strike back has anything to say about it.

At least until Bascov exploded...literally. Created a nice big smoking crater centered on an unharmed if dirtier Bascov and the shady character sticking out in the side.

"How many do i have to say he isn't technically one of mine Shady," speaks up Bascov pulling Shady out.

"Well now...how bout we ask him hm? Its a shame really you were always so reliable and understanding...till now."

"You try anything Shady and I'll start targetting your precious shipments! I haven't much bothered because i have better targets. But you keep pushing me and we'll just SEE how your bosses will like the fact that you made ol Bascov start targeting yours!"

"...now now Bascov no need to to play such hard ball...besides why are you getting involved with an apprentice adventurer? What did killing their seniors finally bore you so much you decided to start bullying their juniors?"

"Shut up Shady. You keep pushing it and I WILL start targeting your kind. Then you will all learn the hard way of why nobody can escape Bascov."

"...ah your really no fun Bascov."

"I had a long fucking day. Your just the second one to show up and count yourself lucky I was in a good mood."

Shady proceeds to look around at the devastated surroundings and smoking crater. "THIS is you in a good mood?"

"Oh yeah should see what I am like when I'm in a bad mood Shady..."

"I...would rather not. People still talk about that incident involving you and the now ruined city of Bershir."

"and yet you keep pushing me Shady..."

"Sounds interesting..."

"Oh i am sure you would of loved it. Full of stuff you adventurers would of loved but for me it was a real pain in the ass."

"Wish I could of been there."

"I wouldn't suggest it unless you got a good party with you and lots of supplies, but I am sure there is even more good stuff down there then what i grabbed. Wasn't strictly down there for treasure related reasons so its not like I concentrated on it."

"Oh really now?"

"Lots of goodies around so long as you know what to look for and get off the beaten path."

After that you proceed to use the book and the creepy death demon item to train in death demon arts. As for Shady's views of you...you don't really know.

We have this goal in mind: "become an adventurer!" and "get stronger" and "become a death demon". We know the goals, just not the specifics.

If you told us there's a dungeon that can teach us the skills we need to know, or to find a scroll, or that there was a path we could tread, we'd do it! But it's knowing those specific means to the ends we want that is hard."

I get the feeling that as a playerbase, we're very reflexive sometimes.

Think in Civ, when we notice there's a lack of food, we build farms. When there's a lack of power, we make biofuel.

The best way to help develop more goals and objectives for us as a player is to find out our weaknesses and work on them. And who better to know adventurer weaknesses than Nova?

So let's find out what we lack to be a good adventurer yet.

"A death demon...is something you wont become unless you lose your humanity and successfully pull of the demonic transformation. Which I can assure you is much easier said then done."

"For an adventurer...you just have to set out to become one. No schooling required...but it is useful to have."

"As for how to become stronger...train, fight, and learn that is how you can do it."

"If its a dungeon that is controlled by something like Vek they are very dangerous...much more dangerous then the mundane ones. Admittedly Vek COULD customize a dungeon to suit your needs but that sorta thing isn't cheap. Skill scrolls are also a thing."

You ain't a fucking outsider son, because of that you cannot bring out its full potential nor can you use it as well. Simply put they have nice early returns but later on its going to fuck you so hard. In other words IF you use it don't specialize in it or get into it too much. Its not worth it in the long run."

"Shadow skills wise...you ARE aware of Bascov right? Nova herself admittedly isn't too good at it...but your forgetting her forces and more importantly ME! For a small fee I can get you any skill scroll imaginable even if its shadowy or rare one? How do think Nova is such a bad ass? The gearing my friend is only half of it. "Adventurers...are basically nothing more then glorified outcasts...you ever SEEN the type of oddballs, heroes, and villains among them? Fuck tons of em man."

"The type of adventurers that give Nova problems are those that can power through her countermeasures, gear, and skill. Not very common but Nova is smart enough to use backup and stuff like myself among other tricks."

"Gear wise...that suit of armor of hers? Is actively massively cursed it devours magics among other effects. Much of her gear doesn't overlap all that well with what adventurers would want. Got a bit of bandit stuff I supplied to them that you might like."

"His death demon arts Vek had some martial and magics connected to it...what do we got for stuff like that?"

"Beyond necromancy? Not much...unless we go into undead arts.Problem is their stuff is even harder to learn for the living then their damned magics."

"Best bet with martial arts...are the dead or undead arts. You sure that is such a good idea Nova? Its very hard to learn for the living and often ill suited for them as well."

"That is the exception Nova. You know that. Besides he knows nothing of blood arts and is only a bit better with the bone arts."

"How about Death arts?"

"No."

"It is extremely powerful undead art and best of all it actually works well in the hands of the living. Problem is using it can very easily kill you or turn you into a husk. Its not commonly practiced despite its power and great age even by undead standards."

"Its a martial art pioneered by Necromancers. It has the unique ability to channel spirits of the dead. Its referred to necrotic because its the one further capable of spreading death and rot as well as bestowing resistances to such things to its users."

"The possession based martial arts that used the dead were created by the necromancers long ago to help their own forces. The necromancers have since created a few others but the possession is especially infamous."

I like the sound of that. Killing things and then growing in power from the death is basically what we've already been doing.

And we ARE a necromancer, rather than the living dead too.

Really, it seems like Dead Adventure Arts and Undead Martial Art of Death Champion are meant for the undead.

But we're alive.

So that leaves Death Camaraderie battle arts and Necrotic Possession arts. The first one is specifically said to kill is very easily.

>Archie Archenhousen of the Great House Archer

Archie Archenhousen was the eldest son of the Captain of the Elite First Friedmont Sharpbowmen Battalion of House Archer, and from a young age displayed all of the natural talent and inclination towards the ways of the Bow that would be expected of one descended from such stock. He was groomed and trained practically from birth by the finest martial and indeed magical tutors House Archer could provide, for it was discovered soon after his 5th birthday that he possessed the seed of magical talent. By the age of 8 Archie could easily shoot an arrow between the eye-slits of a knight's helm at full gallop while crouched atop a 10-ft pole and balancing a pail of water atop his head. This process of preparing young Archie to succeed and exceed his father's position proceeded handily for a period of 7 years, until Archie's 12th birthday at which point the youth uttered a single phrase while at a banquet with the heir-designate of House Archer. A single phrase that would go on to shape the rest of his life in dramatic ways. That phrase was thus:

"You know, I really think I might want to do something other than play around with a bow all the time."

The simple utterance immediately sent shockwaves through all at the banquet, rendering the entire ballroom silent. Seemingly oblivious to this, the youthful Archie (wittingly or unwittingly) proceeded to further dig himself into trouble by nonchalantly continuing:

"I actually rather like some of the axework that Master Ghurney has been showing me, and Mistress Mystry says that I'm practically a natural at illusion magic. Maybe...I don't know, a bodyguard or battlemage who uses illusions to assist in keeping his charges safe? Would you like that, my Prince? I've really always liked protecting people, but you don't get much chance when using the bow."

The banquet ended that night without violence, but it wasn't long before word had spread all through the Great House's powers-that-be that the son of the Sharpbowmen had desires in his heart other than practicing his marksmanship Astoundingly enough Archie's father, rather than ostracizing the boy, instead called in considerable favors and invested a great amount of personal wealth into inserting the child into the envelope of the Adventurers. Given the circumstances it seemed the only way that the boy could be allowed to live in relative peace and continue in the studies of what he wanted, and like a true father that was all the man wanted for his son.

>Sharah'Vo the Outcast Alchemist

The diminutive 7th daughter to a Medicine Man father and a Shaman mother, Sharah'Vo was mostly ignored and left to her own devices from birth. Lacking the required size to participate in any of the hunting parties that the Fokyu'Up Tribe would regularly send out to of their treetop villages to hunt down the fierce beasts of their Mueke Jungle home, and displaying only a minor to moderate amount of magical talent that allowed her to learn the basics of amplification and modification bio-magic, Sharah'Vo was mostly relegated to either sitting and watching from the back of her mother's rituals and her father's medicinal workshop or being sent out to sneak through the treetop monster nests as best she could to acquire rare ingredients for her father's craft. She was always quite a bright child, skilled in coming up with unique ways to use her magical talent in conjunction with her father's medicinal and alchemical techniques, she was more-or-less lost in the sea of her other siblings and only paid attention to with kicks and shout when she failed in her assigned foraging duties, as was a proper upbringing in the Mueke. The only comfort she ever found was in the form of a hooded stranger who would mysteriously appear outside the family encampment whenever they were in the Fokyu'Up capital city, give her toys and play with her to prevent the other children from stealing them for a time. Though the figure would never speak his name, he always showed up without fail.

One day when fleeing from the monsters riled up by a failed infiltration attempt, Sharah'Vo uncharacteristically let her mind wander to the inevitable punishment that would await her back at her home. This was not typical of her, who usually hunched her shoulders, gritted her teeth behind the ritual medicine-man mask and focused on whatever needed to be done, but it happened nonetheless. Perhaps as a subconscious reaction to this thought of punishment her small brown foot missed the cluster of shrink-vines she had prepared as her means of escape from this situation and she began to plummet towards the jungle floor. There was just enough time for the young girl to register a thought of terror that she was headed towards the Forbidden Floor, where all the most hideous and vicious monsters that the tree-spirits had rejected from their glorious life providing limbs dwelled, before her mask cracked against a tree limb and everything went black.

When the young girl awoke she found herself nested in a shallow crater on a bed of dead leaves mingled with fallow dirt, her arm broken and aches and pains shooting all through her body. With a tremendous effort of will Sharah managed to sit up and was greeted by the sight of an enormous field of iridescent and softly glowing mushrooms.
>>
Rolled 83 (1d100)

This is the extent of the story that Sharah is willing to share. What is known by hearsay and rumor is that some months later she finally made it back to her family with a perfectly mended arm, only to be kicked out for having consorted with 'the evil of decay that lives below'. Some time later it's said that Sharah's father and mother both died in a mysteriously uncharacteristic attack by an apparently berzerked and unusually hulked up Gramphenbeast that had strange fungal blooms growing out of its hide. However, this is mostly attributed to her former tribe members attempting to give her a bad name, as by the time of the attack Sharah had already been ushered far away from the Mueke jungles and towards the path of an Adventurer at the behest of her strange hooded guardian.

Necrotic possession is actually more reliant upon getting possessed by the souls of the dead. Potentially it can easily provide great power...problem is it also means you getting possessed on a regular basis.

2 necrotic possession arts
3 death camaraderie battle arts.
4 undead adventure arts

Undead adventure arts it is then.

You have decided to settle on the undead adventure arts. Figuring your an adventurer and all so they should have everything you need right? When you selected your pick soon a manual appeared in front of you that appeared to be made of skin and bone. Even the writings contained within seemed to be off blood and the pictures inside it seemed to move with unholy life. As if souls were trapped inside them bequeathing upon them their realism...the other manual meanwhile is surprisingly drab looking book of dark wood and light bound hides.

According to Vek Undead Adventure Arts were created by undead adventurers. Some of which were made specifically for living counterparts while others had surprising utility for even the living. Vek is supplying you with two such manuals of varying difficulty. One of the manuals is made specifically for living its easier to learn but a bit weaker. The other on the hand was made specifically for undead adventurers...and what it contains just so happens to be also usable by the living to a surprising degree hence why Vek selected it. Only problem is its much harder to learn but also much stronger.

Vek says you can probably get away with learning the easier edition as only the best possible arts can compete with undead works. We are talking the level of immortals and gods are often the only ones that are comparable. Apparently the undead really do know how to make awesome shit given how much time they have on their hands.

The manuals apparently contain the basics of each.

You decide to sleep in this time. Like really sleep in. You only got up when Nova was about to go out on her nightly gig.

Since you decided to wait Nova decided to take you to the graveyard herself. It took a bit of walking at night before you found this graveyard. In truth you were expecting a series of tombstones and catacombs. What you got instead were mass graves and haunted battlefield.

With her guidance however you were able to avoid those skeletal soldiers and undead spectres moving about. Apparently she has been here quite a bit given how relaxed she is and how quickly she able to bypass everything. She advises if you need to come here again without a guide best do so during the day.

Soon she stops at some kind of alter that stinks of blood and decay. She seems to wait a bit before shouting out after taking off her helm revealing her true appearance, "MOSLEY AND MOLLY WHY THE FUCK YOUR RUNNING SO LATE?"

Shortly after that you heard a commotion as hulking armored figure marched out from the bloody mists and skeletal magi comes crawling out from the battlefield.

"Ah Nova what are you doing here? I thought you were busy doing that martial training of Vek's still," asks the hulk that reeks of old rotting blood and rusted metal.

"Mosley why the hell are you two running late? What gives?"

"In his defense my lady you been largely absent of late hence no longer the need to run on time," states the skeletal figure with hallow baleful lights flickering in its eye sockets covered in tarnished jewelry and decayed cloth.

"Ah...I suppose that makes since," admits Nova.

"Whose the twerp," asks the hulking figure as it...very scarily towers over you and you could see a small flickering light in its eye pieces staring menacingly down at you.

"I have a new task for you...and he is related to it. He has knack for the death demon arts you see."

"Oh then why do you need us? Need to summon a death demon tutor or something," mentions the skeletal mage. "Oh by the way I am Molly the big guy over there is Mosley I THINK he might have been a death knight at some time...or something. Honestly though I ain't ever seen a death knight like him so I ain't so sure."

"Vek thinks Mosley is a rare variant or hybrid," mentions Nova. "As for the death demon summoning while useful I want him trained in something that wont cause problems later on with mastery and usage."

"Oh I suppose that makes more sense," agrees Molly. "Well in that case big Mosley over there knows some good deathly martial arts. Seen him take on a giant a few times solo."

"He also needs necromancy lessons," Nova brings up.

"Oh really now?"

"Just look at this guy," Nova says pointing out Mushroom Headed bro.

"Hm..." hums Molly as she carefully examines him. "Nova...you didn't mention he's HELL of a talent with rots and decay natural magics

"...wait WHAT?"

"See this...its shroom magics...not many people have a talent with shroom, but you see this? Hybridization with both Demonic and Necromantic. Of both Necrotic and Nature? This is...BEAUTIFUL...sorry Nova your going to need to find a Decay Druid to teach him properly? Very rare to posses...so very rare. You can find people with demon talents thanks to the bloodlines however weakened but a gift for the rots...for natural decay? Now that kind of talent is even rarer then those blessed by the dead!"

"...Fuck me really?"

"Afraid so Nova. I can't teach that kind of extremely rare specialty. Fuck even I an undead magi barely even know a bit about it. Your very lucky you brought him to me and with that sample...that kind of talent very easily missed. Most if they can even notice it get it confused with a necromantic talent."

"Ah...well you CAN at least teach him necromancy right?"

"Certainly. I can even arrange for a demon tutors to make sure that talent with demonic magics don't go to waste."

"Hm...suppose having a better knowledge of demons could prove quite useful. So you do suggest I look for in regards to teaching him?"

"A Cancer Druid, Plagued Witch, Sick Shaman, or the previously mentioned Decay Druid will work."

"...All of those are rare as hell Molly give me a break."

"I am afraid that kind of gift is really just that rare. Most who go into that field have an unhealthy interest in disease and rot. They can help but the best would be the taboo natural death and decay magics. Necromancers also dabble a bit in it but even I know to not say I am neither a master nor skilled in such matters. Hence why I suggest finding him one of those creepy ass natural magi freaks who are into that sorta thing."

"...A natural magic user who delves into death and rot...fuck that is going to be a pain to find. I think I am gonna have to go consult with Vek."

"Actually...I may know somebody," speaks up Mosley.

"Really you numbskull then speak up already," bickers Molly.

"Who," asks Nova.

"You need to look for Rotten Plagued Doctor of Decay the Druid of the Damned known as..."

"Oh HELL no," curses Molly. "That guy...no THING is a monster! Didn't even have the decency to become undead or rot away with the embrace of death! You want THAT old freak? Even the MONSTERS and undead BOTH avoid that son of a bitch!"

"Who better," states matter of factly Mosley.

"Who the hell are you talking about," asks Nova this time with thinning patience.

"Oh I am sure you heard of him...he is a druid before he got kicked out by just about all of them...hell even most of the evil druidic orders couldn't stand him. Became a plagued doctor before establishing to Druid Order of Rotgut. Aka Gulgix Druldr of Maurith."

Eh, if we really have to choose one or the other we should really choose the harder one.

What's a little bit more time for a helluva lot more power? And we can always go back to learning the easier one once we've got the hang of the harder.

"that...crazy bastard who single handedly crippled the entire great empire of Sorith? Some say he was even the one who destroyed the entire place. He was a druid obsessed with death and decay but managed to keep his powers. He studied the ways of the cancer magi and plague doctor before establishing his joke of a druid order the vile Rotguts. You can't be serious," Nova actually stutters out.

Well to be fair...you also heard of that guy. Fuck EVERYBODY has heard of that guy. One of the most vile druids to ever live and was such a profaned magi that even undead and monsters both don't dare fuck with him. Hell you even heard the Outsiders payed their respects to him...so wait they want HIM to teach you? Come to think of it you could of sworn he was long dead. There was never even any rumors of him seeking immortality or taking the undead right...so how the hell is he even still alive? He was a real sick psycho according to all his horrendous deeds and even Nova fears that guy.

"he may have been such a vile sicko even the evil druid orders couldn't stand him but he is one of the only experts in existence who specialized in that kind of work...so Mosley actually has a point," admits Molly.

"I thought he was long dead? So what you want me to give him to the ROTGUT of all fucking druid orders?"

"They are one of the only ones who can properly teach the kid. The rotgut order of druids are some of the most vilest evil druids to ever exist but they really know their decayed natural magics. The exact type of learning your boy over there has a massive talent in, fuck they would probably take him by force if they knew about him," says Molly.

"Why though WHY should I trust them?"

"You trusted me yes Nova," states Mosley.

"Of course with the number of times you saved my life and helped me ou-wait a second...I don't recall you having any ties to them."

"I am an old undead Nova, I personally knew Gulgix...he was the one who helped 'improve' me. Back when I was a mere fresh death knight."

"Strange I don't recall him dabbling with necromancy much," states Molly.

"It wasn't his field of expertise but that of his lover. Some say she was the one who seduced him into that dark path..."

"Oh yeah the dark sorceress Zasha Valdur. She was one of my heroes growing up," mentions Nova.

"Yeah I knew her too...last I checked she went all lich and haven't heard much since," says Mosley. "What is important though she dealt in undead. He on the other hand preferred natural magics relating to death and decay. He is also still alive in the plagued lands of Maur."

"Maur...even I heard of that deathtrap of a place. Even monsters fear that place and undead tread lightly there. I will admit I am curious as to how he managed to stay alive for so long," says Nova.

"He is without a doubt an expert that could teach the boy over there an awful lot," says Molly.

"...Reaching him isn't very easy though is it now," asks Nova.

"I have my ways," states Mosley.

If you don't want his expertise good luck finding a suitable teacher."

In my defense you rolled a crit on an extremely difficult challenge with very narrowly focused requirements for it. Wasn't my fault a crit was rolled on a player invented action on something that resulted in something like that.

So yeah it resulted in MC have some extremely rare talents in an extremely rare(and hated) field.

Stuff relating to decay natural magics are a huge taboo both due to health reasons and because of connections it has to the 'unnatural' undead. Even evil druids shy away from it.

Anons just so happened to develop an action deeply related to that and other shady magics while rolling a crit no less.

Technically a lot of evil shit like that is either very rare or restricted. Often both.

Everybody has heard of those sick plagued fucks but despite everybody hearing about them they are in truth extremely rare. Both due to the difficulty of entering the field and because you obviously have a fuck tons of people hating your guts/wanting you dead.

Even necromancers aren't that common and the undead are only common in certain areas.

Monsters on the other hand are a MUCH bigger problem and much more common. Thing is though they ain't human(many of them were in fact never human to be begin with).

>>627253
"If Gulgix was really as evil as people make him sound...do you think there would really be so many people still alive given his abilities? Magics relating to death and decay...they themselves are not evil, but there are reasons why they are taboo."

"If one wishes to cure disease...does one not need to study and understand it?"

"Yet that type of 'healing' is acceptable...but in truth it is much closer to the 'forbidden' plague magics then people ever want to admit or realize."

"Death is a natural process...decay is too, but they are taboo and have strong ties with things like the undead and sickness. Hence why they are so frowned upon."

"Gulgix was either a brave or foolish enough man to ignore these taboos and stereotypes. He happened to be very good at it and lucky enough to stay alive."

"Well luckily for us Nova ever since you been spending so much type on martial stuff. We managed to save up enough juice to use the teleportation formation," says Molly as she starts to power it up.

"The coordinates are these here, fortunately for us Gulgix maintained his own teleportation formation," states Mosley.

"Good...very good. With this there is no chance for error! So long as its still there anyway," mutters Molly as she makes the adjustments.

"I'll need to also go Molly. Gulgix knows me and I can make the necessary introductions."

"Fine fine...still got enough juice for that so no problem. Well alright you two step on in and we are activating it in 3...2...1."

"FUCK how! I thought you said there was no margin for error?"

"Well...normally yes when there are two teleportation formations that are able to connect...but problem is that is assuming both are in good condition and its in the right spot."

"So what is the problem then?"

"The teleportation formation wasn't in good condition...it was able to connect but there was damage hence problems."

you attempted to fly up. Unfortunately it was both like the trees kept getting in your way to prevent you from escaping their embrace...that wasn't all of it. When you finally broke past the trees all you saw...was an ocean of dark trees. The sun itself somehow seemed weak despite not being blocked by the trees anymore.

>>629962
After that you decided to wander aimlessly. Hopefully your ability to get lost will somehow work for you on getting out. Sadly it didn't seem to work. No matter where you went there was nothing but eerily quiet creepy still trees...you couldn't even hear the wind rustling through the leaves.

It was so still...almost like death itself.

"I...am not sure what you mean. I don't really need to talk much ever since I became undead. Honestly there is much less to talk about when that happens."

>>630145
"...I do not know what you mean. We are undead we don't exactly feel the way you living do. All those desires...those feelings...all dead or in twisted mockery."

After you kept on wandering for awhile suddenly Mosley made you stop and drew out his weapon.

"Bout time you made your move."

That was when you heard a raspy voice whisper in reply.

"You stink and other still lives. You stink despite being undead. You got no excuse unlike that breather."

"Tiss a shame I ain't no still corpse and still got a mind now ain't it?"

"You...dare mock us?"

"Mocking no...that would make it sound like you had something that was worth mocking still."

"How dare you stinking rotting soon to be still corpses."

That was when some ghastly undead started dropping down from the trees and starting moving among them. Even the previously still trees suddenly come to life as they reach grasping out in your direction.

"Looks to be a bunch of ghasts and dead trees....nasty thing dead trees. Will attempt to kill you from above and below. Ghasts are actually easier just harder to kill," states Mosley after he pulls a long axe out of his bulk with a burst of rotten flesh and explosion of strangely spelling gases/dust. A single blow of his was capable of cutting an undead in half...problem is they kept on coming anyway.

Which made him laugh.

"AH its been a LONG time since I last got to fight something with so much fight in em ahahah," so he cheers on as he notices the ghasts are hard to kill. He even easily avoided the tree attacks and cut down a few of them as well. The trees however unlike the ghasts stayed down.

"Hey kid if you know any necromantic or holy magics now would be the time to use them!"

So Mosley keeps on easily moving among the enemy and striking insanely hard. Despite their overwhelming numbers they are having a really hard time at striking Mosley. A few of the ghasts and trees meanwhile start to come at you instead. So you attempt to fend them...and become very thankful at how good a distraction Mosley is. "Any necromantic or holy techniques, you say, friend-comrade Mosley? Well not quite, but we'll give it our best shot!"

First of all, yank out our Supreme Scythe of Sinful Love. We've not gotten to use it yet actually and this seems like one of the few times we WILL get to use it and not really have to worry about it. Do our best to not catch everything ablaze though, control that power.

Don the Death Demon hood, but otherwise remain in our heavy armor. We're going to one-hand our scythe with our shield equipped.

Activate
>Demon Double
>Sacred Shield
and
>Sacred Sprint of Sons

Deploy the Seeker Halberd out with our Demonic Double (if he doesn't get a copy of our scythe) and have it start harrying the ghasts. It's the frontliner meant to draw their attention, meanwhile WE and Shadowbro should be using [Shadowstep] to flit around and strike the ghasts from the rear with [Shadow Strike] and [Death's Dream] to make sure they stay down. Finally, employ [Desecrate Dead] to keep us powered up and if any of the trees try to fuck with us then try to chop their limbs/roots off and use the Scythe's ice-flames to freeze-cauterize the stumps so they can't grow back.

Oh, if we find ourselves with an excess of power and Mosley's cool with it then use [Demonic Dead] to power him up.

His fighting style...despite being a big bulky smelly hulk he moves eerily fast and is quite agile. So agile in fact you swear you see after images of him striking multiple ghasts at the same time. Swiftly butchering them into a helpless form before finishing them 'off' into giblets.

Once he finishes them off you swear you heard him sniffle and hold back tears.

"man if only there were more of em..."

That very nearly made you trip.

Before long though he picks up some still moving and oozing giblets as he takes a sniff before swallowing it whole..and raw.

"Oh BABY its been SUCH a long LONG time since I last had me some nice partially ectoplasmic flesh and bone...so tasty and oh baby I got all this necro wood to burn."

"hahahaha...its been even longer since I could eat some BAROQUE version with the BEST wood...and its ALL fresh. FUCK YEAH."

Wait...he can't be serious right? You think to yourself as he starts collecting all the giblets into one big meaty oozing pile and starts up a roaring fire.

"AHAHAHAH BARBECUED GHAST MEAT WITH NECRO WOOD HERE I COME," Mosley proceeds to roar as he starts wolfing down a mixture of full cooked, partially cooked, and raw ghast meat before the roaring fire. "Oh baby...a special time like this calls for a very special drink to wash it all down with," he mutters as he pulls out an overgrown bottle with a explosion of dust and rust before pulling it open and taking a deep drink.

"OH YEESSS...now this...this is just perfect. Good food, nice place, and nice drink...ahh."

How he can consider what he is eating, what is probably a drink that has long gone bad, and that this is a creepy haunted ass forest as 'nice place' you try not to think too hard about.

"So...Mosley how did you learn to fight like that?"

"AH...oh right forgot you were here...ah if only Molly was here...then again if Molly was here she would rip my head off for wasting ghast meat. BAH just because they are a bitch to make doesn't mean eating them is a waste...oh right your question. Lets see here...how to explain."

"Alright. Kid when your an undead you no longer suffer the limitations of living. That combined with thereotically endless life allows the undead to fight insanely hard and spent so much time improving their skills they can as a whole only be rivaled by the immortals and gods...but you know what their problem is?"

"..."

"Its that they ain't dead son. They still got all that pesky living bullshit to put up with...but we don't. BUT they like to say oh we got arts and skills can rival you dead fucks!"

"Well DUH when your comparing the dead fucks to the still living fucks they tended to be alive for the same duration right? Problem is dead fucks aren't always undead fucks. They just be moving the goalposts yah see because they can't win for shit otherwise."

"...So how does this make you a better fighter?"
>>
Rolled 76 (1d100)

>>633827
"Because kid. Think ABOUT IT us undead fuckers can fight endlessly without rest and we can't be stopped like the living can! Living things have stuff to do they can't fight endlessly or really do anything endlessly."

"You throw in how hard it is to stop one of the undead...and how much time we have to get good. We are the truly ultimate fighters! How can you kill something that is already dead? How can you stop something that is tireless?"

"It ain't easy kid. Hence why I am such a damn good fighter."

"So...i can't fight like you without becoming undead?"

"Pretty much kid but let me warn you being undead blows. You know WHY we fight and practice things endlessly? We literally got nothing better to do besides sleep...and if we sleep then we die...again. Undead are undead because for whatever reason we can't rest its both our blessing and our curse."

"Of course people like yourself are unsatisified that answer. So they tried to use the styles and arts the undead created. Often with poor results. When undead created those abilities they are made in mind for something like an undead. We don't need to rest and ain't easy to kill again. All of which are extremely important things you living guys lack."

"hence why it tends not to end well."

"I am sure there are exceptions..."

"There are. A few undead accidentally created something sometimes admittedly on purpose that works BETTER in the hands of the living then the hands of the dead! Who would of thought? Yet even if you do that kid...you only got so much time to use it compared to one of the undead."

"So its hopeless then?"

"Its unlikely you can ever compete with something that refuses to die so easily kid. There is a reason why the only way to survive when the ancient undead fucks get off their asses the only way to counter them is through the immortals and gods. They are literally just that strong."

"Sounds like you guys should of taken over the world long ago."

"Heh yeah...but problem is kid the undead are fucking terrible at keeping track of time. For all your living flaws losing track of time...is something the living can't do. In the end that is what matters. It doesn't matter how strong you are kid...if you never show up in time to use it when it counts."

"...is that really the reason why?"

"Yeah it is."

"...That...is honestly kind of sad."

"It is kid it REALLY is. Problem with undead the older and stronger you are the more true it becomes. There is a reason why ancient undead so rarely show up. If those fuckers could ever actually keep track of time together you living fucks you would so SCREWED."

"Yeah but that is never going to happen is it?"

"Pretty much. We are strong enough to keep kicking even without the ancients but we aren't strong enough to completely take over without them either."

"Man what a let down one of the greatest threats to life itself...isn't ever going to actually happen."
>>
Rolled 91 (1d100)

>>633872
"Oh don't be like that kid. You never know we might get lucky and someone actually manages to bother the ancients enough for them to mobilize in mass or against all odds some of them decide to get off their collective asses at roughly the same time."

"...Like I said real disappointing that one of the great threats to life itself is actually a joke. I can't believe more people don't realize that..."

"Good luck trying to convince them kid. One of the greatest boogieman is the Undead. We are so fucking terrifying and strong we are right up there with the Monsters and Outsiders!"

"...That is because people are idiots and assuming you would actually able to use said ancients."

"Yeah...but hey at least we got potential!"

"So...is there really no way?"

"Kid I am just a variant death knight...but the necromancers would know."

"Hm how so?"

"You know that possession arts you passed on?"

"Yeah supposedly its super strong problem is it was created by the living and I wanted something stronger."

"You think that was the only thing they invented kid? You think the NECROMANCERS of all people hadn't noticed that problem too?"

"Wait are you saying there is actually a way?"

"I know they found a way to do so temporarily. They called it the Death Changed. Problem was its strictly temporary unless you wanna die for real."

"Holy shit really?"

"How do you think Death Champions are so insanely strong despite still many of them still being alive?"

"...They use Death Change?"

"Exactly. That and some very powerful styles. Often undead or necromancy based. Originally many death knights...actually started off as one of the living. What happens is they chose an order of the Death Knights. Over time...they had the bad habit of dying problem is due to them being a Death Knight...they came back. In fact I am from one of their Orders."

"Holy shit really?"

"You think I ended up this bad ass at once? I started off as a living Death Knight. Eventually I died, some time after that I ran into a powerful necromancer and Gulgix. They both had some 'ideas' for improvements. Some time after that I and Molly ran into your girlfriend Nova."

"...How much time exactly between all of that?"

"Honestly I have no idea anymore. I really wasn't joking about that whole losing track of time. I don't even pay much attention to empires and kingdoms because of how often they fall being replaced by another."

"...You any idea how much time that takes?"

"To an undead its nothing at all kid. Hell we barely take noticed of the gods being replaced."

"So there really is way then..."

"Hah its temporary kid that was the best you living can do."

"Still be temporarily as unstoppable as an undead is something else..."

"That it is...especially when you combine it with UNDEAD arts to maximize the benefits!"

"So what Order were you part of?"

"I was an member of the Knightly Death Order of the Crimson Chrysanthemum."

"Was?"

"...Back when Death Orders weren't outlawed we existed."
>>
Rolled 13 (1d100)

"What happened?"

"The powerful don't like it when somebody else is able to endlessly store up powerful fighters with good reputation. After awhile they went after us....not to many of us are around anymore because of it. Its been a long time since I last ran into another Death Knight...even longer since said Death Knight was from my Order. These days...most death knights are just knights who refused to die because of some honor they still needed to fulfill."

"I barely recall hearing about the Death Knight orders. I didn't realize you were so old as to be one of their members..."

"Yeah...like I said kid. Most Death Knights these days are just some Knight who refused to die."

"So that order is where you learned to fight and become so strong?"

"Pretty much kid. I learned an awful lot as a squire and I been a Death Knight long before I actually died for real."

"How old were you before you died for real?"

"130."

"Holy shit you weren't a human one then..."

"I was actually."

"...What? How?"

"An interesting possible side effect is increased longevity."

"No shit...wow no wonder they went after you so hard."

"Yeah exactly. Now the only Death Knight Orders still around are the faith orders."

"So how much ass kicking did you do while you still drew breath compared to now?"

"Mostly the same."

"Really how?"

"Kid the only thing that changed a bit was my body. Most of the skills and experience I still had when I was alive."

"So you...could kick this much ass even when you were alive?"

"Well not in the long run I will admit. The biggest advantage i gained when I became undead was sheer endurance. When I was still alive...I would get tired. The later improvements only helped a bit with toughness, strengthening, and agility, but they weren't a huge difference in the amount of ass I could kick."

"Fuck me you must of been a monster..."

"Hah I been a monster since i was alive kid. This transformation turning me into a monster? Not by a long shot."

"Were the Death Orders really that strong?"

"Well I would admit not all of them...but many indeed were. You gotta remember kid our members had a hard time dying off for real."

I'm starting to see why powerful undead lords like Dracula spend SO much money and investment to build these giant and elaborate clock towers.

So they make sure their undead aren't lazy and keep track of time!

Hey genie, are you still up I got some questions.

I really like your Expo on the undead, they're very interesting.

It makes sense now why the Brood consider the Undead their polar opposite and a major enemy, because they are in many ways on different ends.
One grows through evolution, adaptation, and change, always altering to a new form.
The other is constant, sometimes stagnant, adding to their skills but as the dead do not evolve or adapt, always remaining the same just more powerful.
The Brood is alive, and living beings have their limits.
The undead is not alive, and lack the limits the living have.

"Mosley, What about some of the undead who try to keep the fun aspects of living?

Take vampires, for instance. They can still feel pleasure with their skin, enjoy the taste of a. . .blood meal, the wind in their hair. Some of them even sleep in their coffins.

Are there any undead out there that try to 'cheat' by getting all the good things in life, eating, sex, rest. . .while still being dead? Like being an immortal, only dead instead of alive.?"

"Vampires if they drink enough blood can mimic the living, because of that they get those sensations back...which is very addicting."

"Vampires are unique like that. Most undead who experience 'sensations' aren't like that. Problem with undead who still have those is its ALWAYS twisted. Warped. Perverted..."

"Its a mockery of the real thing and its big reason why undead seem so insane or evil."

"The other half being undead is not good for the mind. Its why we suck at keeping track of time so much and so many undead become increasingly deranged as they age."

"There is a reason why so many liches are so insane or evil. When they turn into a lich they vastly underestimate how much damage it does to the mind."

"Those undead exist though...and are by far the most dangerous to the living. Such undead who can feel sensations no matter how twisted a mockery or how 'real' are the exact type you must avoid at any cost."

"Even the most demented and deranged undead who don't have those sensations are far less a threat to the living then them. Vampires are a particularly well known example...but haven't you noticed that while they HAVE those feelings...there is something off about it all? They are twisted? Warped mockery of the real thing?

"The dead aren't suppose to feel what the living feels. So when we DO get it...its terrible terrible curse, because it cannot escape being twisted due to the sheer wrongness of the act. Its impossible for the dead to feel what the living feel. So what we get instead...its twisted mockery of the real thing."

"never forget. The undead no matter how convincing the show...how convincing the desire are NOT alive. Whatever they feel that is based off the real living thing...is never untainted."

>>634001
I spent a TON of time on the undead because of how much I hated HATED their presentations in current fiction.

Its like one of my biggest pet peeves and its SUCH FUCKING BULLSHIT because of what undead would be like if they weren't mindless cop out.

Mosley is only providing the basics and only some of it.

>>633994
"Unfortunately such efforts only work on the younger undead and vampires. As undead age they become increasingly detached and often demented."

"Its extremely for a undead to shrug off the effects of undeath on their mental state. Its even rarer for an undead to keep doing so as time passes on. They always give eventually...always. If they really are that good they just become more detached then deranged."

"Unfortunately I wasn't that good. Even with 'improvements' its something me and Molly both struggle with. Molly was relatively lucky lich when she turned. She knew a bit about how powerful undeath was to the mind. Not pleasant even if you know what to expect."

"Me and Molly...we aren't like most. We knew what we were getting into...but it still eats away at us. We are just much less deranged then our brethren a big part why was due to us knowing ahead of time, but that doesn't ensure your safe."

"Its because of how twisted undead feel and the effects of death on the mind results in undead being so hated."

"Its for good reason. If an undead is lucky they don't have sensations which is a very VERY good thing. Its because those sensations...they are NOT the real thing."

"They will NEVER be so as the dead aren't meant to feel what the living do. Even the undead this is so as we are between...because we ARE between we can feel that SOMETHING."

"Problem is that SOMETHING is never the real thing..."

"You throw in how hard death and becoming undead is to the mind...well there is a reason why so many undead are insane and or evil. Especially as they age..."

"It becomes harder to hang on...harder to escape the effects. The younger undead claim the hardest part is the turning...but the old undead you know what they say?"

"The turning is EASIER then the weight of the ages."

"THAT is what they say. Keep in mind they ALL say that! Our most POWERFUL and ANCIENT undead ALL admit its TIME that eats away at them more then being undead itself!"

"Time eats away at your memories of life...eats away at your attempts to resist the twisting of 'feelings' that you may have if your unlucky. If your luck you still have to deal with the damned detachment and becoming ever more demented...there is no escaping the weight of TIME."

"That is why the older undead sometimes like to sleep...and some never wake back up again. The weight of undeath...it is impossible for the living to understand."

"Because living...living is sensations. The undead realize this more then anyone. As they either chase it endlessly...a mockery that reminds them of the real thing. Or do their best to forget possibly going so far as to sleep...and never wake back up."

"The weight of the ages...is far heavier then the weight of becoming undead. It will eat away at your mind no matter how powerful...or how slowly it occurs. There is no escape...but slumber."

"But if you sleep as an undead...there is good chance you may never wake back up. The undead...we are the awake dead for a reason. If we fulfill that reason then there is no problem...but what if we haven't yet?"

"The reason why liches became liches for instance is their magical research..."

Some undead are admittedly forced to be awake...others forget the reason why."

"An undead as long as they exist they are limbo between life and death. They must either resist the chase the sensations of 'life' and the calling of 'death'. For the undead there is no escape."

Thus ends the Genie's simplified summary of the undead.

"I am not allowed to teach it if your not a squire of a Death Knight lad. As a Knight we are only allowed to teach a prospective Knight as in Squire or Potential Squire."

"You want what I have? Then you must BECOME a squire of Death! You sure you wish to make that choice?"

"I do indeed know of a few knightly orders...some of them have indeed managed to survive, but should people realize what you are. Then you are going to make some very powerful enemies."

"The necromancers are indeed a good place to work...but be aware they specialized in magics. They only dabbled with the martial stuff...but things they created from mere 'dabbling' is something else no isn't it?"

You either have to make the diplomatic checks or become a squire. Either way you will gain a bounty on your head and if your a squire he'll personally suggest some still operational knight Orders who have survived without running the Faiths.

Write in can help a LOT when it comes to checks requiring word to be said. If its well written bad rolls don't matter at all and even bad crits will be heavily weakened

So what do?

Also I have announcement to make. The Genie is about to get put on some drug trials to help fix what is making me so ill. However they are the type that is makes you sicker before you get better. So I may be unreliable for the next month.

HOWEVER the Genie has an absurd drug tolerance and I have found that running this everyday is actually pretty easy for me. I may still have stuff to do is its not entirely reliable but I still do it no?

So what i am trying to say is Genie may get sicker and I will try to post in a daily thread for playing unless something crops up for instance.

Dur that time you can make plans in thread and ask Genie Genieverse questions meanwhile if its not an outright action.

If you can at least get the OP going, we'll do the rest.

Oddly enough with no longer doing civs and the way threads work here in /qst/ is perfect for me when I do quests to the point where I can do it EVERYDAY I can run. Granted there will be breaks but apparently this quest season when not considering drug treatment can be called a marathon!
I am so willing to run everyday so long as the health is with me if its not make plans and I can provide info with Genieverse stuff best I can.

I doubt /qst/ could work for me during civs we will have to see.

I just CAN'T to try out the post apoc quest and cloak quest.

So...MARATHON it is then?

So anons when should we start a new thread? What standards should we abide by.

Basically when make new thread?
>>
>>634252
I like the precedence you have now. Just have a thread up ASAP when the last one goes, and update. . .when you can update and we have a turn. We generally know things pick up at around 6 pm est, since that seems to be when most of us are able to tune in and make an action.

Basicaly, a thread all the time erry time, and we just post along.

I am just asking anons to with this so there will be more game time. I would try to do it by myself but with my poor health I can't really. if i do end doing it for other quests and not this one.

As a scum sorcerer one might expect spells that would ruin food or foul others belongings but in the more advanced cases one would think that you may be able to bog our opponents down in filth or even infect them with minamally some sort of blinding or burning scum but in the most extreme I could imagine flesh eating scum, iron rot, or even madness

You decided to press onward to Gulgix. Mosley for his part swiftly devoured the remaining mountain of giblets before packing away the remaining lumber. Claiming its very valuable to necromancy and dark arts.

So you proceeded to wander aimlessly. This time however you both remained unbothered. Seemingly the forest has learned its lesson...for now. Mosley however for some reason tends to pause or a bit as if pondering on something or lost...and sometime lags behind as well. You could hear him muttering a bit.

Which ends when you came upon a strange sight...of some kind of flickering orb of light orbiting a particularly grotesque large tree. Upon seeing that Mosley stops and stares at it.

"...Well shit."

"You figured out where we are?"

"Yeah...you could say that. FUCK I was really REALLY hoping we didn't end up here of all fucking places."

"What is here?"

"...This is the Plagued Dark Woods of the Evil Elves...in the Warlands."

"Warlands FUCK not the war lands!"

You heard of the war lands...everybody has. Its the worlds biggest most unstable hellhole yet resource rich. Some say the reason why its so rich is because of all the spilled blood fertilizing the lands and strange powers used to generate otherwise rare materials.

"I was REALLY hoping this was just an ordinary patch of haunted woods..."

"Why seems pretty typical to me."

"Kid problem with these woods is they got elves..the bad kind of elves. Far worse then even the dark elves."

"That bad huh?"

"...Yeah that bad. this breed of elves are considered evil even by dark elf standards. See that got a little TOO interested in dead life instead of living...such as trees for instance."

"So necromantic elves? Lovely I can see why you really wished this wasn't so. We wouldn't happen to be too far from Gulgix right?"

Try the other compasses, we have 3, the treasure, marking and seeking. Asuming our other two compasses are working we should be able to triangulate our current location or at least get our bearings and figure out north. Worst case call nova on the speaking stone and get her to remotely track our current location then we can use the compass's misleading readings to know exactly what the counterspell does and compensate our route based on that knowledge. Basically decode the encription in a more modern sense.
