Mauya's departure effectively leaves you alone to watch over Lantana until she wakes up.

You're far from alone, as many villagers stop to stare at the unconscious girl, whispering about the amazing things she did with her bending. Like Mauya, a few even stop to get confirmation that Lantana is, in fact, the Avatar. You're as polite as you can be, generally giving short, direct answers to their questions and getting them to leave as quickly as possible. Finally being left mostly alone, you think a bit on what Mauya had said.

"It looks like she's been keeping secrets from you."

Lantana did claim that she only knew how to Earthbend, yet she used Waterbending against that monster, and it looked as if she used Airbending as well. She couldn't have just learned to use that kind of bending out of nowhere, could she?

A groan pulls you from your thoughts, and you look down to see Lantana's eyes fluttering open. With a gasp, she bolts upright, looking around frantically. When she sees you standing over her, she calms down, but looks extremely confused.

"Sei?" she asks in a befuddled tone. "What happened?"

Picking herself up, she gives you a curious look. "Did you beat the monster?"

Now, you're even more confused.

Nevertheless, you explain to her that she was the one who defeated the monster by using a mix of Earthbending and Waterbending. Lantana listens to your story, but you can tell she's having some serious trouble believing it, and unless she's a magnificent actress, her reaction tells you that Mauya was wrong about her keeping secrets from you.

"But, I don't know how to Waterbend," she reminds you. "And I've never done anything like that with Earthbending. How is that possible?"

You watch as she tries to come up with some sort of explanation, but it quickly becomes apparent that she isn't having any luck. In the end, she simply shrugs it off.

"Well, we're alive," she tells you optimistically. "I guess it doesn't really matter how it happened."

Lantana's trying to shrug this off as no big deal, but really only because she doesn't have any answers. You tell her that you'd like to know what's going on.

She sighs. "So would I, but I don't know how to figure it out. I mean, I think whatever happened happened because I'm the Avatar, so I don't really know who to ask about something like that."

That is a fair point. You doubt that you, or anybody else in the village would be able to tell her too much about what she did. The stories you've heard about the Avatar mentioned the ability to use all four elements, but Lantana says that she has to be taught to use the different kinds of bending. Maybe she's wrong, and she's known how to use all four all along, but you somehow doubt that's it. She seemed almost like another person at the end of that battle with the monster, and she claims not to be able to remember any of it.

"Sei?" she asks, drawing out out of your thoughts.

Lantana looks at you with a worried expression. "Are you okay?"

Lantana gives you a nod, and you decide to change the subject, telling her that, if she really needs to learn to use the other three elements, this village has a Waterbender.

Her face lights up with wonder, and the excitement in her voice sounds not unlike a child on their birthday. "Really? A Waterbender?"

"Yeah," you tell her. "Mauya."

"Mauya?" Lantana asks, sounding a bit surprised, but extremely excited. "Well, let's go find her, come on!"

She dashes past you, rushing through the village in search of the young Waterbender. You follow along as she makes her way from building to building, asking people if they've seen the other girl.

Eventually, you're directed to the river, where you see Mauya putting a fishing spear into a canoe.

"Mauya!" Lantana shouts, rushing toward the girl.

Mauya turns toward Lantana's voice, giving the other girl a confused look.

"Yeah?" she asks, curiosity in her voice.

"Is it true you're a Waterbender?" Lantana asks.

Mauya throws a look your way before nodding at your friend.

"Yeah," she answers.

Calming down a bit, Lantana asks if Mauya would be willing to teach her Waterbending.

Mauya fidgets a bit, looking somewhat uncomfortable. "Well, I'm not that great of a Waterbender. I only know the basic stuff."

"That's okay," Lantana assures her."I don't know any of it!"

"But, what about what you did to that monster?" Mauya counters.

"I don't really know how I did that," Lantana admits. "I don't even remember doing it."

There's really no way of knowing if you'll have enough time to actually teach yourself any new techniques, so you decide to simply practice what you know. What was it your dad used to say? "Don't fear the man who has practiced a thousand techniques once, fear the one who has practiced one technique a thousand times."

It's not quite a thousand times, but you do go through what you know multiple times, practicing everything from hurling rocks to making pits. How much time passes, you really aren't sure, but you figure sometime around an hour.

You work up a healthy sweat, and finally decide that you've done enough for now. It's been a long day already, and there's no telling what else waits for you. Calling it quits for the day, you make your way back to the spot where the two girls were practicing Waterbending.

Mauya and Lantana stand side by side, manipulating the water in front of them, pushing and pulling to create their own small tides. You somehow doubt that's all they've been doing for the past hour, and figure they must be ending their training with something simple.

"Alright, I think that's enough for today," Mauya says, turning to Lantana.

Your friend has a very disappointed tone when she next speaks. "Do we have to stop? This is great."

"Sorry, but I have work to do," Mauya tells her. "If you're still around tomorrow, we can practice some more."

"Yeah," you answer. "Can you help us get across the river?"

"Sure," Mauya tells you, strolling past you and Lantana as she makes her way toward a canoe. "That thing swam off, so we should be fine."

She throws her things into the canoe, and the three of you climb aboard, setting out across the river. This time, no monsters attack you, and no fishermen get thrown from their canoes or bore you to death with long stories. It's a simple, peaceful trip, and when you reach the other side, the three of you grab your bags, staring out at the landscape ahead of you.

There's no forest, not really even any trees to speak of. All you see is an endless, grassy plain.

"Wow," Lantana gasps.

Mauya rolls her eyes. "Trust me, it's not that exciting."

"Have you been here before?" you ask Mauya.

"Sure, plenty of times," she answers. "When people from the village get tired of fish, we sometimes come hunting here. These plains stretch all the way to the next river in the East, and the mountains to the North."

"Wow, I've never seen anything like that," Lantana comments. "Most places I've been were covered in forest."

You nod in agreement, while Mauya shrugs. "Well, you'll get to see plenty of it. I haven't gone too far; like I said, these plains stretch on a long way."

The three of you start North, following the river toward the great mountains which house the Air Temple. Mauya may take the place for granted, but you find yourself greatly enjoying the sights as you make your way. Birds of many colors fly high above, an Ostrich Horse drinks from the river, ignoring the three of you as you approach.

Boar-q-pines growl and fight one another in the distance, and you spot a Catgator plunging into the river to find its dinner. Lantana seems enthralled by all of this, and even Mauya seems somewhat interested. As for yourself, you can't help but whistle.

The three of you are in for an adventure.
