In the last chapter Zheng Li arranges a marriage between Lu Fan and Du Ji's daughter. He begins to build military academies in Runan in the hope of building a strong central military base. Gathering troops, Zheng Li launches an attack on Jiangxia. When a man named Wei Yan betrays the city defenders, Jiangxia is easily taken. Cai Mao joins out of fright, Lu Fan accuses Wei Yan of treachery but you let the latter off the hook, and you release Huang Zhong after witnessing his might and loyalty.

--------

This quest is an RPG-styled game following the Three Kingdoms period of China and the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guangzhong. You play as a fictional character following through the events of the Three Kingdoms and hopefully rising to become an important player of with the famous figures. You will start off as a no-name, average character who can rise up through effort. Most of the characters and story will follow the events of the novel first, history second, the RoTK games third, and only a very small part will come from the Dynasty Warriors games (Mostly character personalities if suitable).

The goal of the game is to create an interesting story more so than win. While this game will not be harsh, mistakes and carelessness may result in the loss of your faction and even the death of your character. Sometimes circumstances may be unfair as not even Zhuge Liang could not save his kingdom after Shu lost Jing province. Still, thinking and common sense should get you through. Whatever the case, my goal is to hopefully see you create an interesting story more than conquering the entirety of China.

While Jiangxia has been captured order and pacification has still not finished. As Liu Biao was a generous man and treated his people well, you hear reports that not all of the populace is pleased with your presence and takeover of the commandery. At times like these rebellions may happen and you must ensure your rule is intact.

You hear news that Sun Jian has successfully taken Nan. Though initially Liu Biao held the advantage by luring Sun Jian's vanguard troops to an ambush, the veteran warriors of Sun Jian and his competent commanders were able to break free and push Liu Biao back to the city of Jiangling. Jiangling was sieged and after two weeks of battle, Huang Zu was slain by Cheng Pu. With morale plummeting after the commander's death, Sun Jian's forces broke through and captured Nan commandery and Jiangling city. He plans to rest all his men and pacify the area before he attacks Liu Biao again.

In any case you most pacify Jiangxia yourself. How do you pacify the areas?

>by the use of your military strength. Your troops will keep order and they shall make it clear dissent is not allowed
>through diplomacy with the nobles and ensuring they are kept happy
>spread word to the common people that you are a just and fair ruler

You decide that pacifying the nobles of the area would be a good start. They are the landowners and they can keep the rest of the people in check if you earn their loyalty. Remembering that the Cai family is very influential, you bring forth Cai Mao to you. When the man arrives he quickly bows and fills you with praise with a smile.

“Lord Zheng Li, what can I do for you? I, your humble servant, am most grateful that you have show my family and I kindness.”

“Sir Cai Mao, your clan is most influential here, yes?” you ask.

“Of course. The reason Lord Liu Biao married my sister was because the Cai family has been here for many generations and we are very influential.”

“Then would you be so kind as to help me by talking with the other nobles of Jiangxia? Earn their trust and loyalty for me and I would be grateful.”

“Of course of course my Lord!” Cai Mao says happily. You send Lu Fan together with Cai Mao to placare the people of Jiangxia. After a week you hear reports that Cai Mao and Lu Fan has successfully swayed the nobles to your cause. (+1 Pol).

One night you hear word that Cai Mao's sister, Lady Cai Shi has arrived to your office. She comes to your quarters in finely dressed silk, perfume, and makeup. You raise an eyebrow at her presence as Cai Shi comes beside you and begins pouring you some wine.

“My Lord, I am ever grateful for the favor you have show my family and my son,” she says as she pours warm wine in a cup. “Allow me to serve you in any way I can,” she says as she grabs a small fan and begins keeping you comfortable.

There should be no poison in the wine nor should she have any concealed weapons since you have made many precautions to keep the Cai family in check and to make sure they are not doing suspicious. Then the only thing Cai Shi is here for is well...

You look at the woman. She is almost in her thirties but she is quite beautiful; more pretty than most women you have met. Liu Biao likely did not marry her solely for political reasons. As Cai Shi pours you more wine, her hands lightly brushes off your own and it is quite clear she is attempting to woo you. Though you certainly will not take her as a wife, perhaps you can keep her as a concubine?

>let Cai Shi help you as a servant, but nothing more
>tell Cai Shi to leave
>keep Cai Shi as a minor concubine
>let Cai Shi please you tonight, but nothing more after that
>>

>keep Cai Shi as a minor concubine

If it's acceptable to her, not quite sure how it would be percieved otherwise. Concubine does mean chance for legal heirs, yes?

>>

I'm okay with going minor concubine so long as we keep a close watch on the Cais though, don't want them to become too influential.

You decide that it has been far too long since you had a woman, and your duties ever since you began leading troops has derived you of some worldly pleasures. You allow Cai Shi to continue her duties beside you and when time comes for you to head back to your quarters, you lift Cai Shi up and carry her.

“M-My lord...” she says surprised at your sudden carry. But soon she places a hand on your face and you take the woman to your bed chambers. Once you arrive Cai Shi takes the lead and begins undressing herself and you. She moves to you and embraces your body, Her body is warm and her supple breasts press against you.

“Let me take care of you my Lord, please relax...”

How do you pass the night? As a kindly lover or...

You are a romantic at heart, you after all wanted to marry a woman you loved when you last talked with Hao Xian and Yang Jing. You spend the night caressing Cai Shi and attempting fairy tail love making. Cai Shi seems amused by this seemingly understanding your young nature and idealistic idea of intercourse. Though you feel that Cai Shi wanted more, stronger interactions, she goes through the night without any complaints and does her best to please you. You make Cai Shi one of your minor concubines and she will be present to please you whenever you need it.

The time to depart Jiangxia and head back to Runan arrives. Who do you leave in charge of Jiangxia and what officers do you assign there? Or perhaps you would want to make Jiangxia your main headquarters instead of Runan?

Hao Xian, Yang Jing, Song Qian, and Han Fu are stationed at Chen.

>choose officers to govern Jiangxia
>>
>>581217
I'd take personal command of Jiangxia and let Du Ji take charge of Runan since we've secured his loyalty
>>
>>581217
kek, that fucking pic!

Lu Fan, Lu Qian, maybe Liang Xi?

You guys might make better choices...
>>
>>581217
Also please separate Cai Mao from Wei Yan. I think we should keep Wei Yan close by to build loyalty and keep him useful.

Zhang He would be a loyal and competent governor
>>
>>581245

But we want Zhang He close, he's our great general.
>>
>>581217
Take over personally with Liabg Xi and Zhang he. Song Qian Goes to Runan.

>>581252
Cai Mao goes to Runan not Song Qian.
>>
Wang Yi is always an option since she has deep roots in Runan.
>>
>>581217
Cai Mao because he knows the place well, Du Ji as admin, Yang Jing, Lu Qian and Song Qian.
>>
>>581231
I want to finish up the Academy before changing our city. We want that thing built quickly to make use of our prosperous lands before it gets too chaotic.
>>
>>581217
Hmm

Runan has a good strategic position in between Chen and Jingxia, so we may want to settle there.

How plentiful and prosperous a land was Ningxia again?
>>
>>581267
Those are two officers from Chen commandery that we need to replace
>>
>>581277

Very good point. I was us Scholar Guy and Zhang He to finish academy.

Cai Mao or one of the Lu guys might do well.
>>
>>581217
Does Cai Shi view us as a joke now?
>>
>>581298
Ahhh, then just Wang along with the non chen choices. Thats a goodish mix there and we can support either city from Runan.

You know, I want to support this except Lu Fan's been such a great adviser to us that I'm not sure I want to separate him from our side. Is it really worth it to put him in Jingxia?
>>
Runan

Du Ji, Lu Fan, Liang Xi, Lu Qian
>>
>>581488

I like him there as our most trusted in that city.
>>
Then again I normally don't vote on this type of stuff because I suck at it.
>>
>>581500
We cant afford to be seperated from our chief advisor. Especially in times of uncertainty.

We should keep him with us. His skills are wasted just administering a peaceful county.
>>
>>581429
Instead of Lu Fan maybe Liang Xi so he can order the merchants to make the most and we keep our advisor.
>>
Wang Yi governs Jiangxia. Cai Mao, Lu Qian, and Du Ji help her out.

We need to leave a competent leader for leading troops in Jiangxi. Lu Qian who's an average schmuck is mpt enough.
>>
>>581538
Yeah that's how I kind of feel.

>>581421
>Runan

>Du Ji, Liang Xi, Lu Qian

And I suppose if we need one more send Cai Mao. I doubt he'll give us much trouble now, especially with his sister in our harem. It would be very unwise of him to turn on us now as long as we have her.
>>
We just committed a Cao Cao people. Let it sink in.

Okay.

Laughing yet?
>>
>Zheng Li takes Cai Shi for himself
>Cao Cao sends us a letter congratulating us and giving us tips and pointers on how to steal other peoples wives
>>
>>581577
No we didn't. Cao Cao forcibly took a woman and then threatened to kill Zhang Xiu. We fucked Cai Shi who wanted it probably so she can secure her own power and as a result helps Cai Mao as well who we know is a spinless guy.
>>
>>581569

Our main problem would just be that that county borders both yuan shu and liu biao.

Liu biao shouldn't be a problem in the future but it might be an avenue of attack for yuan shu.

Du Ji should have full authority in all civil matters but when it comes to war time, authority should shift to our commanding general there.

I'm thinking we should actually assign Zhang He there for the time being since the area is also at risk of being attacked. When we conquer more land that it is protected, we can assign a lesser general and leader.
>>
>>581599
It was a joke about Cao Cao fucking widows.
>>
>>581615
Everyone in the realm knows about Cao Cao and his strange fetish
>>
>>581615

Man everyone is yucking it up with jokes tonight.

Shit's going over everyone's head.
>>
>>581608
That's fair, I suppose sending Zhang He to monitor a border like that would be a good idea for the time being. He can be trusted to defend the province well in case of an attack
>>
Zhang He, Wei Yan, or Wang Yi guys. We need one competent general at Jiangxi. Stop sending only admins there and some archer dude.
>>
>>581421
>>Runan

>>Du Ji, Lu Qian, Zhang He

Du Ji as main Administrator, Zhang He as Military General and empowered with wartime emergency powers. Which means in war, he has full authority to what needs to be done.

After some consideration, I think we should keep Liang Xi with us where he can formulate economic policy for our entire kingdom.
>>
So Du Ji is governing Jiangxia, Lu Qian, Liang Xi, and Zhang He are going to help him?
>>
>>581694
Between Jiangxia and Runan, which area is more economically active/rich in commerce activity.
>>
>>581706
Runan.
>>
>>581713

Then I propose that we keep Liang Xi with us in Runan so that he can work his trade magic on a more prosperous area.
>>
>>581694
No Liang Xi he stays in Runan.
>>
After this campaign, I think we should consider taking Ying Chuan.

Its a small but well populated area which is traditionally a commerce and administrative centre.

It should also be easily reinforceable from our capital in Runan.

You train your swordsmanship and practice martial arts, finding that you haven't personally fought on the front lines and in duels for some time. Though you are a ruler and a leader, you cannot forget your roots as a warrior. (+2 War)

Wei Yan has certainly left an controversial debate among your officers. Lu Fan in particular did not seem to like Wei Yan for his betrayal of Liu Biao at Jiangxia. You decide to see if he is as treacherous as some people seem to be, and if he is, you can earn more of his personal loyalty. It was after all his ill treatment that he switched sides at the battle of Jiangxia.

You find Wei Yan at the barracks drinking with some of the lower-ranked lieutenants and sub-commanders. You see the man boasting.

“I have studied the Art of War and the stratagems all my life. I am one of the most able warriors and none can best me in personal combat. Yet, I was made to suffer a low rank and no one used my abilities when I served Liu Biao. Now that I have joined here, you all can be certain that victories shall be scored. Enemy lords can send armies three times stronger than mine and I can push them back with a snap of my finger.”

Wei Yan laughs out a loud, and the people around him force a laughter as well. It seems Wei Yan's compatriots seem uncomfortable. You had heard rumors and reports that it was Wei Yan's arrogance that had aliened his comrades back when he served Liu Biao.

“Come, come, drink up!” Wei Yan says as he urges the other men to drink. You appear before Wei Yan and the man stands up to greet you along with the other men.

“Ahh, Lord Zheng Li!” Wei Yan says with a smile. “Would you care to have some alcohol? The jar I bought from the markets the other day is finely distilled. The taste is most sublime.”

"I found myself quite thirsty actually," you reply. "I would be glad to take some drinks with you.Pour me a cup," you say as you sit before Wei Yan.

"Very good sir," Wei Yan says as he carefully pours some spirit on an empty cup for you. He looks at the other men and with a wave of his hand dismisses them. "Come on, off with you lot," he says to them. It seems they are more than happy to go as they bow to you and Wei Yan and quickly leave.

Wei Yan hands you the cup of baiju respectfully with both hands and you accept. He waits for you to take the first sip before drinking himself. The alcohol Wei Yan bought is quite good as he stated; clear and with a cloying aftertaste.

"This is a fine drink, but you should try some of Chen's wine," you say. "Years ago Yang Jing and I started up the business. We grew fine grapes and after all this time we have grown a fine enterprise at Chen."

"That sounds splendid my Lord," Wei Yan replies. "Send me word when you wish to drink with me and I will be there in a matter of minute."

The both of you laugh and Wei Yan pours you more drinks. As the two of you drink some more, Wei Yan starts to grow a little buzzed. He begins to boast again.

"My lord, send me to eliminate your enemies. Give me but a thousand footmen and a few hundred cavalry to lead the vanguard and I will be able to conquer this land for you. Let me also be your champion and defeat any who would challenge your army to duels," Wei Yan says thumping his chest.

I would recommend not criticizing him right now. Drunkards and assumptions bring calamity when it comes to Romance and the three kingdoms and we don't have that strong a bond yet.

>>
>>582334

I was thinking more in the terms of friendly advice to him since i was thinking the same thing but he might take it wrongly as well.

I'd prefer for him to not cause more trouble for our troops and generals but I guess I we can over look it for now and tell him in the future.

>>582270

changing vote from >>582322 but if we can still nicely hint to him that he should tone it down, it would be best.

>nod along with Wei Yan and let him boast

If I could make a suggestion, why don't we let ourselves do a little bit of boasting too.

"I intend on doing plenty of fighting myself you know! Bah!"
>>
"I certainly do not have any doubts of your abilities and your skill as a warrior Wei Yan," you say. to Wei Yan who smiles. "However," you say raising a finger up to make a point. "You must be careful with your words. You have gotten in to trouble in the past because of your boasting. While I do not mind it, there are others in the force that do."

"Mmm..." Wei Yan murmurs with a frown. "I do not understand what is so wrong with speaking facts. Those with talent and abilities should be able to boast. I would not care if you boasted my Lord, for you deserve it. Nor would I care if lords Hao Xian and lady Wang Yi boasted either. Why do we keep such tiresome scruples of humility and the like? I find it all so foolish," Wei Yan says with a wave of his hand.

"Even so," you say. "A general must act with dignity and must command the respect of his soldiers and comrades. Let your actions and deeds speak, not your words. If can tone down the boasts and if you should serve well in battle, I shall surely promote you to a high position and let your name be remembered throughout history."

Wei Yan smiles at this and clasping his hands, he bows to you.

"Very well my Lord, I shall watch my words from now on."

With that done, what topic do you move on to next?

>ask Wei Yan which officers he likes and respects
>ask Wei Yan about personal matters such as his family
>ask Wei Yan what he thinks your next move should be

>>
>>582386

>>
>>582386
>>ask Wei Yan which officers he likes and respects
>>ask Wei Yan about personal matters such as his family

Suggest a night of drinking with Yang Jing and some of our other generals, such as Song Qian since we've had little enough of the lad in the story. Such a strong and fearsome lad should likely have some family in the same vein, just sayin'
>>
>>582444

Further, we might can goad Wei Yan and Yang Jing into a drinking contest, for morale and such. Yang Jing drinks him under the table, it humbles him slightly in a way that should hurt his pride.

“Speaking of your fellow comrades,” you say taking a sip from your cup. “How are you getting along with the other officers? Do you find the others kindred souls? It is my wish for my officers to get along with one another so that we may work more effectively.”

“Ahh well, I wouldn't know what all of the other officers think of me,” Wei Yan replies. “I am still new and have not fought battles with the other generals yet. But I do like Sir Hao Xian. He seems to be a capable and cultured man and I would very much like to become friends with him,” Wei Yan says. “Lady Wang Yi too is quite intelligent and finding a woman like her is a rare breed. In the near future I would very much like to discuss stratagems and tactics with her.” Wei Yan drinks up his cup and then lets out a small sigh. “I like Lord Lu Fan as well, but he seems to greatly distrust me. Perhaps you can speak to him in favor me Lord Zheng Li.”

“If you will show Lu Fan that you are capable and loyal, he will surely grow to trust you as well,” you say to Wei Yan. “Lu Fan is a man of principle and values. Make sure to keep your boasting down as we discussed and you two should get along as well.” Wei Yan nods at this and strokes his beard. You ask about his family next.

“I have two sons and a daughter,” Wei Yan says. “I am hoping that when my sons grow up to be of age they too shall be capable warriors and generals. I will not have my sons be incapable louts. If any of them seem weak or unfit to inherit my clan, then I shall disinherit them.” Wei Yan seems quite strict when it comes to his sons, perhaps a bit too strict.

“And what of you Lord Zheng Li,” Wei Yan asks. He leans in and smiles. “I heard you took Lady Cai Shi as your own recently. A beauty that one, wasted on the likes of Liu Biao. I was not one bit surprised when she clung to you after hearing of Liu Biao's defeat. She's quite a harpy. In any case my Lord, I heard you only took her as a concubine. Should you not be finding a main wife so that you may get a son to inherit your clan in the future?”

"I will marry later when I find a suitable wife I love," you tell Wei Yan who lets out a laugh.

"I hope that day will come soon my Lord," he says. "I do not think many lords have that luxury. Most marriages are political and most women would pretend love to gain status in your family Lord Zheng Li."

You hear your officers arguing and bickering one day. You come upon Zhang He and Lu Fan arguing with one another.

"I respect you Lord Lu Fan, but Emilia is a bland and boring character. If you were a patrician of arts like I, you would be on the Rem ship. How can you say she is not the best girl after episode 18?"

"I most respectfully disagree sir," Lu Fan says. "Emilia fights for the greater good. Rem was a terrible person and treated killed Subaru several times. It was only when he helped her that she returned kindness; Emilia was kind before Subaru even helped her."

"And yet Emilia could not even help Subaru in his more dire times. Certainly you agree with me, Lord Hao Xian?"

"I disagree with both of you," Hao Xian says with a shake of his head. "The true best girl is Crusch. She is respectable, commands authority, and is not waifubait like the other two."

"You all have shit tastes," Yang Jing roars. "Felt is the best girl. Look how cute she is and the way she told off those shitty nobles."

Your visit with Wei Yan is over and the two of you leave in good note, with Wei Yan promising that he will tone down his arrogance. You hear word that Liang Xi's endeavors with the northern barbarians has gone well and the wine you have bartered brings more income to your kingdom. (+1200 gold)

Other more troubling news comes however. You receive a visit from a villager at your audience hall who is crying and he bows in front of your presence. You ask him what his troubles are.

“My Lord, my village and several other outlying villages have been raided. Our homes have been burned and looted. Many villagers were slain and many of our women taken.”

This comes as a surprise to you. Bandits around your territory have never been a huge problem. You furrow your brows, who do you think is attacking your home? It seems mos to the raided villages were on the border outskirts of your territory.

>(guess the belligerents)

You consider the options and you believe it can only be the Yellow Turbans that you did not deal with or Yuan Shu who has recently expanded near your territory.

“The belligerents are either the rebel remnants or Yuan Shu. Lu Fan, what is your thoughts on the matter?” you ask your advisor.

“The only plausible answer is Yuan Shu my Lord,” Lu Fan says. “Most of the Yellow rebels have been dealt with and in our territories you have made certain to drive out any troublemakers and brigands. No Yellow Turbans would dare attack our lands.”

You slam the armrest of your seat. Yuan Shu has always looked down upon you and it was only inevitable your would come to arms. The villager in front of you bows and he asks you for help. How do you reply?

You order a servant to prepare transports of foodstuffs and a distribution of 100 gold to the victims of the attack. The villager bows several times and begins crying again, thanking you profusely and calling you the most benevolent lord. You kindly help the man up and lead him out the audience hall, and he leaves more gracious.

As the audience hall doors close your smile turns to a look of disgust and you look at your officers.

“The people shall be helped, but what will we do about Yuan Shu?” you say to your officers. “Ever since Guandong the man has been intolerable and now he would even attack my lands.”

“Their audacity cannot go unabated,” Wei Yan says fiercely. “Let us prepare for war and gather arms my Lord.”

Lu Fan places a hand on his chin.

“Though Yuan Shu is a petty and incompetent lord, he has always held a large army. Even when Cao Cao dealt him defeat he was still able to retreat to Jiujiang and has since been gathering troops to make his move. Though I do not fear him, going to war with him may take some of our resources and time. And there is still Liu Biao after all.”

“Liu Biao is finished,” Wei Yan says. “If I am correct, did Sun Jian not state to leave Nanyang in his hands? There is no reason for you to aid Sun Jian in retaking what is left of Liu Biao's lands my Lord.”

Wei Yan is somewhat correct. Sun Jian did say he was the one that would deal with Liu Biao's territories outside of Jiangxia. Yet, aiding Sun Jian could also win more trust. What do you do?

>declare war on Yuan Shu

Keep helping out Sun Jian, and then when Liu Biao is dealt with we can ask him to help us against Yuan Shu.
>>
>>594493
>>prepare defenses and patrols but no war, you need to focus on helping Sun Jian
Yuan shu's army is too large. For now, prepare defenses and purchase troops, while using what we have now to up our rep with our allies. Then, once Sun Jian is done, we can ask for aid in fucking up liu biao, and then bam, we've got more lands.

Plus, Liu Biao is an easy target. By sending troops against him, we can train our troops even further, so we have more elites supplemented by the dudes we purchase in the meantime to attack Yuan Shu
>>
>>594536

Depends on how much we like the envoy. Anybody we need to get rid of?

We need to build up some our selves. Lets finish the war going on and then we can focus of a new enemy.
>>
Though Yuan Shu is like a gnat poking your back, you fear that you may not be his match, especially with the number of troops Yuan Shu holds. There is still the matter with Liu Biao and you feel that you still need to send troops to aid Sun Jian. You order increased patrols and defenses but no preparations of war.

“But my Lord,” Wei Yan says coming forward to you and bowing. “Yuan Shu is an incompetent. He may have large armies but we have the more elite army and talented officers. If we do not keep Yuan Shu in check he will expand to the commanderies of Pei and Liang next. We should fight him for the outlying territories of of Pei, expand our own territories, and show the world our might. You cannot let that rat get away with attacks on your territory, and you are not Sun Jian's vassal.”

It seems Wei Yan is insistent on fighting Yuan Shu. What do you do?

You consider Wei Yan's statements for a moment. Certainly Sun Jian can take care of himself, and perhaps you are exerting too much effort towards his way. You already saved his life and it was by your efforts that he was able to take Nan commandery. To allow Yuan Shu go unchecked may very go against your favors in the near future. Drumming your fingers, you think about the decision for some time.

“...Very well then,” you say to Wei Yan. “We will begin preparing the troops and gathering arms. We will move our armies to Pei at Spring and then confront Yuan Shu there. As the one proposing the war, I expect you to produce results Wei Yan,” you say.

“Of course my Lord!” Wei Yan says with a smile and with excitement. “You will certainly see, we shall destroy Yuan Shu.

With that done you begin preparing for war and inform Hao Xian and Du Ji to send what troops they can at the eve of Spring 194. Yuan Shu hearing of your preparations begins to prepare his own army.

What do you do to improve your kingdom for the Fall season? You have been focused on building the military academies around Runan but perhaps you want to make more preparations against Yuan Shu instead.

>>
>>595068
If we can throw training all our troop surge a well I agree with this.
>>
>>595068
Basically, I'm thinking we should focus on quality over quantity. 1000 well trained, well equipped troops, led by an experienced and intelligent general, can easily defeat at least double, or more, of their number of conscripted peasants. At least, imo.

Also, meant to include training, because oh shit, we need to train *everyone*. Always.
>>
Just got in but I feel that going to war with Yuan Shu now is a mistake. Letting him take Liang and Pei opens his borders up to Cao Cao, potentially opening him to war on three fronts.
>>
I believe we heard of Yuan Shu taking people out with his crossbow units. Do we have anything to hard counter that?
>>
>>595279

Tower shields might do it, but I thought that was someone else agianst Gonsgun Zan
>>
>>595225
>Letting him take Liang and Pei opens his borders up to Cao Cao

Or you know we can take them for ourselves, and conquer Yuan Shu so that we can be strong. Will give us the coast too, which can open up further trade opportunities and a secured front.
>>
>>595298

If we're going to conquer a new area, I'd rather we not open another front. Since getting Liang or Pei opens up the front to Tao Qian.

Strategically, the best place to attack would have been Yingchuan if we wished to expand and not help Sun Jian.
>>
>>595312
We are on good terms with Tao Qian and he is too much of a cowardly old man to attack anyone
>>
>>595319
Didn't he get btfo by one of the Yuans? Pretty sure he's someones subordinate at this point.
>>
>>595312
We're in good with Tao Qian, if anything we can vassalize him or his lands in the future should they come under further threat from others.
>>
>>595331
No, he just had to give up some land.
>>
>>595331
He ceded some territory, but still remains independent.

We should work on bringing him under us diplomatically after dealing with our current affairs.

You split your efforts in buildings your academies, building defenses on your borders, and training new troops. As you have distributed all your manpower in different areas, the results are lower than usual expectations. Small camps, watch towers, barricades are prepared around the borders of Runan in preparations for any invasion while local troops are recruited. The five hundred troops you recruit are immediately drilled and trained for the upcoming battle. (500 troops trained to Adept)

Winter comes and on a snowy day you find your concubine Cai Shi and her son playing around the courtyard. The little boy of eight is prancing about the snow as her mother watches. As you know, the boy is called Liu Cong and he is, or was the eldest son of Liu Biao. The boy is quite good looking and you hear he is okay at his studies, but nothing extraordinary. You hear that Cai Shi immediately has the boy's surname of Liu removed and changed to Cai as to show her change in affiliation towards your faction.

As you come forward Cai Shi bows to you and wraps her hands around yours. Cai Cong comes about, and asks who you are. The smiling Cai Shi looks down at her son and says,

“He is the lord of our land, and you must now treat him as you would a father.”

“Huh?” the boy says confused. “But I thought Lord Liu Biao was my father.”

Fuck it, if we become a father figure, we can turn him against his father. Play up the whole "That fucker left you and your mother here when he left. What a cunt, right?"
Plus, it gives us legitimacy to the people here. Have them see us being a good dude to our enemies and all should alleviate some tension.

I think the kid will be okay. Just need to watch to make sure his mother doesn't pull any shenanigans once we get a heir.
>>

>>
>>595576
We can expect shenanigans from the mother definitely.

I think he will become a good administrator at the very least. Something we need.

Perhaps we could put him through the school we built. If its a boarding school, he'd be somewhat free of his mother's influence for a while.
>>
>>595607
Agreed on boarding school.

I don't think the mother or her brother will try to betray us. But they may try to hurt or discredit any heirs and try to position the kid so he can become an adopted son. We definitely shouldn't allow that.

No harm playing with him though and cultivating him to be a good administrator or loyal officer.
>>
>>595607
>Perhaps we could put him through the school we built. If its a boarding school, he'd be somewhat free of his mother's influence for a while.

That sounds like a pretty great idea for when he comes of age.
>>
>>595623
Boarding school a good idea. I can deal with more administrators that have a chance to be competent.

It's be pretty sweet if he became genius level strategist.

Only to then inevitably betray us.

I'm totally expecting this, really. This is exactly her MO. We'll need to stymie her ambition and influence by either properly bringing Cai Mao under our influence or separating the two.

Military strategy could very well be a key part of it. For many big strategies to work, the lesser officers should be able to play their part and be capable of working out problems. 1000 warriors may seem good, but without coordination and competence to avoid falling into traps, it can lead to trouble.

Part of the reason the boy lost his father lies on your fault, and you find the boy pitiable. Besides, Cai Shi is your concubine, and that does entail that he is your son-in-law, even if he cannot inherit your titles and name unless you specifically allow it. You lean down and ask the boy how he is doing.

“The snow is quite fun, but mother will not play with me,” the boy says with a slight frown. “She says the weather is too cold for her.”

“Then how about I play with you instead?”

“Really!? Yes, come come!” the boy says holding your hand and pulling. For the next half an hour you play with the boy and allow him to have fun. You have a small snowball fight, a game of hide-and-seek, and you build small structures with the snow. As you play with the boy, you can see Cai Shi on the corner of your eyes smiling radiantly and with ease. You have come to see Cai Shi as a shrewd woman and it was obvious she came to your bed for her own political reasons, but right now it seems she is truly content.

When you finish playing with the boy, Cai Shi sends him back to her house to be bathed and cleaned. She seats you down at the main guestroom of her estate and personally pours you some warm wine and massages your shoulders. It seems she's taking extra effort in pleasing you for the day.

“...My Lord,” she says as she massages your shoulders. “I thank you for your kindness and generosity. I know you still view the Cai family with some guard, and I would do the same if I was in your position. I would not ask for us to be directly brought to your family. I only ask that you allow my son to inherit a few hundred households back in Jiangxia, and nothing more.”

You expected Cai Shi to ask for some favors at some point. You consider the issue, and the woman does not seem to be asking much. A few hundred households at Jiangxia means the Cai family will be a dominant force around the commandery but nothing beyond that. What do you say?

>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord
>reject Cai Shi, say the Cai family is strong enough
>>
>>595706
>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord

Maybe not the entire few hundred all at once... some sort of installment plan over a few seasons/ years as they prove themselves capable.
>>
>>595706

> FUCK No.

Only Cai who is going to get shit is our officer Cai, if he earns it.
>>
>>595706
>>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord
Meh, pretty sure that Cai guy we recruited is legit, and this'd get them further onto our side. Just gotta remember to reward Wei Yan well for shit he does so he doesn't see it as getting passed up for rewards like with Liu Biao
>>
>>595706
>>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord

Only once he comes of age. Also that he attend the academy once he becomes a little older.
>>
>>595706
>>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord

I think this is fine.

"When he comes of age of course. until then, have him study properly. If he has potential and goes through my academy properly, I will have him as one of my administrators."
>>
>>595706
>>595721
>>595738

Oh yeah, I assumed that was a given. I thought this was just us saying "
Yeah if he proves himself in his studies and becomes a good administrator, he can have them when he comes of age"
Essentially giving it to HIM instead of his mother, when he's a bit older. Instead of just handing a hundred households to the Cai family straight up
>>
>>595706
Perhaps in time. If he proves capable A's you up amd your brother.
>>
>>595706
>>reject Cai Shi, say the Cai family is strong enough
they're powerful enough as is. if Cai Cong does something with himself in the future, then we can reward him.
>>
>>595706
>>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord
On the condition that he earns them by studying well and becoming a respectful young man. We'll enroll him into our academy once it's done and if he does well he will have a golden future for himself.
>>
>>595738
This just say he is not old enough
>>
>>595706
>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord

Conditions must be met:
1) He must attend our academy and remain an upstanding and loyal gentleman
2) He will receive an education from both ourself, Lu Fan, and Hao Xian
3) When he comes of age, should the first two conditions be met, Cai Cong will receive the households over a 5 year period; should any member of the Cai clan usurp the legitimacy of our rule then the deal is off
>>
>>595706

Her family is plenty strong, we don't need the Cai family to have a strong hold right near Liu Biao. P.S take her, smart women are a turn on
>>
>>595706

>>
>>595706
>allow Cai Cong to inherit some taxable households as a noble lord

But >>595756
too. We should take measures to ensure that Cai Cong grows up to become a respectable man, and I think putting him through our military academy is a good way to help ensure that
>>
>>595767
I'm pretty sure that legal majority age was 16, don't quote me on that; so therefore the Cai family will gain those households fully when Cai Cong turns 21.

By then our power base will have expanded so that a mere 500 households will be a pittance.
>>
>>595048
I think you forgot the 1600 gold from our wine trade with the north men.
>>
“Very well,” you tell Cai Shi. “But only once Cong comes of age and he is given a full education. If he proves himself worthy he shall inherit households around Jiangxia and be enoffed as a lord. You must make certain he grows up to be a man of virtue and intellect.”

“Oh thank you my lord, thank you,” Cai Shi responds happily as she bows to you and wraps her arms around you. As she shifts her body to yours, her hands urge you to move towards the bedroom and you follow through with the temptress. If there is one other thing you learned of Cai Shi, she is a damnable fan of carnal pleasures.

You now have another season of preparation to fight Yuan Shu. You hear word that Hao Xian and Du Ji are preparing their troops and shall send you reinforcements as Spring arrives. What do you focus on for the Winter of 193?

Gaining support coudl be done as well, but training is more important. We've lasted this long by focusing on small numbers of baddasses instead of large numbers of peasants, and it's worked out thus far.

Maybe add in demonising Yuan Shu in our lands. Make it out like he personally burned women alive while raping their fields. And Salting their homes.

You begin a call for mobilization against Yuan Shu. You spread word of the misdeeds Yuan Shu has caused with his raids, speaking of the homes he burned, the women he has kidnapped, the fields he has looted. You gain the aid of the villagers that you helped and they help spread of the atrocities that Yuan Shu has committed.

Anger against Yuan Shu and support for your brings for many men to your army. Two thousand men join your cause, though they are inexperienced and untrained. You do what drilling and training you can but you do not have much time to get them up to speed. (500 of the volunteers turn adept)

As the ice and snow melts, and the first day of Spring comes, you mobilize your troops and call for your other lands to gather the troops at Runan. Hao Xian brings three thousand men of mixed spearmen and archers and Du Ji sends Zhang He and Lu Qian with fifteen hundred footmen that was mustered in short time.

Your troops: 1000 Elite, 1000 Veteran, 1650 Trained, 1000 Adept, 1500 Green

You hold provisions for about six months, You begin your march towards Pei commandery where you also hear Yuan Shu has mobilized twenty thousand troops under the command of generals Ji Ling and Zhang Xun. As you make camp near the fields of Pei, dire news comes to you. An envoy from Tao Qian.

“My Lord!” the envoy says bowing. “I come to you to ask you for help. Cao Cao has begun an invasion of Xu province and Lord Tao Qian does not think he can hold out!”

You are surprised by the news and ask him how this invasion came to be. Apparently an officer under Tao Qian by the name of Zhang Kai killed Cao Cao's father. The envoy insists Tao Qian wanted to treat Cao Cao's father well, and it was only Zhang Kai who did the murder and fled away to the north after stealing the Cao family goods. In rage, Cao Cao has begun a massive invasion of Xu province. Word already comes that several villages have been laid waste by Cao Cao's armies and many people are being slaughtered.

Just as Tao Qian's envoy says his piece, an envoy from Cao Cao comes. He bears a letter to you and when you read it the contents state:

“To Lord Zheng Li,
I hope this letter finds you well and in good health. A year ago you and I promised friendhip and neutrality, to hold peace and not attack one another's lands. And so I have honored that pact and never attacked you even when you fought with Liu Biao.

Evil spreads across the land and Tao Qian, the villain of Xu province has slain my father. My wrath shall not be held and I will not rest until Tao Qian's head hands from my walls. I have heard that you are in mutual friendships with Tao Qian and while I respect your friendship, know well that I will no abide your presence should you aid Tao Qian.

Keep away from the affairs. Let the tiger and wolf keep to their dens and not encroach upon the other's territory. I pray you shall see wisdom in this matter."

The envoy of Tao Qian begs you to send assistance, in light of all that is good and to aid the people of Xu province. You are about to go to war with Yuan Shu, can you spare some thousand troops to save Xu province?

>you will stay neutral. apologize to Tao Qian's envoy

>>
>>596159
>you will stay neutral. apologize to Tao Qian's envoy

We have to sit out.

We're still at war against Liu Biao, we're on Yuan Shu's doorstep, and there's no way in hell we can go toe-to-toe against Cao Cao with a third front.

One front and one war at a time, we'll stretch ourselves thin if we do.

Also tell Tao Qian's envoy that we can't step into what id basically a blood fued.
>>
>>596159
>you will stay neutral. apologize to Tao Qian's envoy
>>
>>596159

>Apologize to the envoy, but no troops can be spared.

We can't afford to let troops go at this moment, and any we send will be of little effect against Cao Cao's armies.

Yes, we'd be holding up our friendship. But at what cost?

Pragmatism must win out here. Any men we send will be defeated, and we may lose whoever commands them.

In addition, weakening our position here will lead to our defeat at the hands of Yuan Shu.

We'll lose everything if we try and aid Tao Qian.

Leave Tao Qian's fate to BENEVOLENCE! Hopefully BENEVOLENCE! will come to his aid like he did in history.

We can't help but will accept him as refuge if he lose
>>
>>596256

This may give Cao Cao a good reason to attack us next. He says he wants revenge for his father's death. It's personal.

We might be able to shelter his family, but definitely not Tao Qian himself.
>>
>>596256
This is the worst possible choice since Cao Cao may just come after us next.

We either help him, gain his goodwill or deny him completely.

I believe we can spare one or two thousand of our greener troops.
>>
>>596248
Actually, why not simply aid the common people? Set up refuges for misplaced farmers and tell the envoy that they can come in case of the worse outcome. Meanwhile, send a letter to Cao Cao.

'As per our argreement we will not enter this battle and keep to our own fronts. However, if any refugees or civilians come here, they will be given shelter as we have done for others. If the man who killed your father comes here however, he shall be captured and brought to you so justice will be served.'

>>596159
>you will stay neutral. apologize to Tao Qian's envoy

There is no way you can help Tao Qian. The battle with Yuan Shu will commence and you feel that you cannot spare any troops or you will only make it harder upon your own forces. You apologize to Tao Qian's envoy and tell him there are no troops that can be spared.

“Then there are no good men left in the world!” the envoy cries before he leaves.

Word reaches you that Yuan Shu's army is close by and you march out your armies. You meet Yuan Shu's force on the fields of Pei, mostly flat lands of dirt and rock. On the vanguard of Yuan Shu's armies are generals Ji Ling and Zhang Xun, and way back at the center in a decorated chariot of plumes and many horses is Yuan Shu's carriage. Most of Yuan Shu's forces are comprised of infantry with some thousands of horsemen. The front of the army moves apart as Yuan Shu comes forward.

“Foul villain, wretched rat from the gutters!” Yuan Shu shouts out to you. He is dressed in pompous decorated armor and a jeweled sword points at you. “You would dare declare war upon me? Heaven shall strike you down for your treachery. You were nothing but a worm among dragons back in Chenliu and that has not changed today.”

How do you respond?

Calling it right now.

Cao Cao sent soldiers disguised as Yuan Shu's soldiers to raid our villages.

Cao Cao also sent raiders disguised as our soldiers to Yuan Shu's villages.

Both us and Yuan Shu have shit for Intrigue. We both squabble and Cao Cao attacks Tao Qian while we're busy.
>>
>>596479
Totally possible.

What do if we both say we didn't do anything to each other here.

Do we call off the fight?
>>
>>596479
But Cao Cao couldn't have planned for Tao Qian to have killed his father. The timing doesn't work.
>>
>>596490
It does. If he killed his own father.

Honestly though, it doesn't have to be with regards to the invasion of Xu. Just having the two of us fight depletes our war potential and makes us easier targets in the future when he comes to war with us.
>>
>>596479

Nice in theory....for modern day communications.

The timing is too close, too off. It takes days for messengers to get around. The timing needed to organize raids framing us and Yuan Shu to coincide with the invasion of Tao Qian is too tight.
>>
>>596501
True, but

>>596487
Even if this happens. How can we call off the fight now? I doubt Yuan Shu would allow us to withdraw soldiers so we can aid Tao Qian. He would strike our territories while our army is mobilized.
>>
>>596389
>>state justice shall be paid for the raids Yuan Shu has committed on your lands
>>
>>596490
Yeah, but it's highly likely that he had planned the ruse but with Papa Cao dying it became a golden opportunity for Cao Cao to execute "Annex Xuzhou" plot at 200% Plot Power.
>>
>>596511

It would be convincing Yuan Shu that someone was trying to kill both of us off and that if we still went to war knowing somethings wrong, we would simply be playing into their hands. That it would be best for us to retire to our lands and not fight and deplete our men.

Also we don't have to send our entire army to Xu. We could split them for defend, most head back, a third remains for to march for war.
>>
>>596502
Call me paranoid but it's one of the Stratagems from the Art of War.

Something something "make your enemies fight each other and then swoop in and kick their shit in", really abbreviated the line there.

Also Cao Cao has scarily competent officers like Xun Yu and Cao Ren. Who's to say that their forces are hypercompetent enough to pull this ruse off?

It's totally Cao Cao doing this. We need to kick Yuan Shu's face in fast and start marching to help out Tao Qian for this bullshit.

It is exactly because he is treacherous that he might see what has happened. And knowingly stepping into a trap someone might have laid for you is utter folly so it does have a chance of happening.

Still, balls not in our court as of yet. We'll need to see how he reacts to our accusation before we act. If he demands fighting immediately, we're shit out of luck.

>“The only plausible answer is Yuan Shu my Lord,” Lu Fan says. “Most of the Yellow rebels have been dealt with and in our territories you have made certain to drive out any troublemakers and brigands. No Yellow Turbans would dare attack our lands.”

Lu Fan is not the equal of a Cao Cao or Xun Yu in that case

I'm suggesting everybody change their votes to #2 and see how Yuan Shu reacts.

Yuan shu general Ji ling and Zhang xun is not that great lets end this quickly just throw some insult and demand duels.

"I, the villain?" you state. "You have raided my lands and looted my territories when I have never once attacked you. I shall see justice done today for the people you have killed that was under my protection. Prepare your armies Lord Yuan Shu, swords shall be broken today."

"The lands you possess were never yours to begin with foul peasant. Better the resources to come to my hands than be squandered under your hands."

Yuan Shu orders his carriage to be drawn back and his army prepares to battle. You return to your army.

You see Hao Xian and Yang Jing together looking across the battlefield on one side of your force.

"I cannot wait to dash that bastard's head against the rocks," Yang Jing says. "Too long he has insulted us and never paid the price for it."

"I am eager to do battle as well," Hao Xian states. "Look upon their troops and formation. They lack discipline."

The drums begin to beat and from the enemy ranks comes a warrior clad in armor with a shield and blade on his arms. He beats his chest and issues a duel to your armies.

"Under the orders of Lord Yuan Shu, I shall kill any man brave enough to fight! Come cowards!"

Do you send anyone to duel or yourself? If so, then who?

Going by the RoTK games, Lu Fan barely has 80 in Int and Pol.

Xun Yu and Cao Cao are in the 90s for both Pol and Int.

Also pic related.

Familiar with it, and thought of it at first.

But the timing is too off right now.

It's also far too obvious.

If someone's playing Yuan Shu and us off each other...it's not Cao Cao.

If anyone, it's Liu Biao. To prevent us from aiding Sun Jian.

Liu Biao isn't smart enough for this. Cao Cao is not only a great strategist himself, but also possess other advisors who are just as good.,

Wei Yan is better as a commander, not a fighter.

He's no slouch, but certainly Yang Jiang is a "Powerful warrior" and probably superior when it comes to duels.

I say we give him the duel because we wanted him to earn merits in this first battle. After that, we can default to Yang Jiang and Zhang He.

Hence more hedging bets, sending someone to crush the opponent and let Wei Yan gain merits through leading troops instead so we dont lose him on the off chance this is someone pretty strong.

“Wei Yan!” you call out, and the boisterous warrior appears before you. “You were the one that called for this campaign and you have asked before to give you the chance for merit. Go out and take this man's head.”

“Yes!” Wei Yan says as he rides forth with his iron spear one hand and his horse thundering across the plains. The enemy champion comes forward as well and spinning his sword declares,

“I am Yue Jiu, know my name!?” he shouts. To this Wei Yan laughs.

“I do not remember the names of every useless pawn. How can a man such as myself be bothered to hold useless information?”

“You shall pay for that with your head!” Yue Jiu shouts as he charges forward. The two fight several bouts, but it is clear after only a few engagements that Wei Yan is the superior warrior as his spear slams across Yue Jiu's shields and nearly knocks the man off balance several times. Wei Yan smashes the side of Yue Jiu's head with the blunt end of his spear and the man's helmet comes flying off. Seeing that he is defeated, the enemy warrior turns around and begins to flee as he drops his sword and shield. Wei Yan charges forward and catching up to Yue Jiu, spears him straight through his chest.

Shouts of joy erupt from your side of the battle and Wei Yan returns victorious. Yuan Shu calls for an order of attack, screaming that the duel was inconsequential.

>charge your army forward, personally fight at the front lines
>harass the enemy with your archers as you pull your army back and back
>make a strong defense line and hold position
>>
>>596718

“Charge forth!” you cry as you raise your blade in the air. “The one who brings me Yuan Shu's head shall be rewarded with a hundred households to his name!”

Your troops shout and they march forward to meet the enemy with your at the helm of charge. Wang Yi and Wei Yan rides besides you while Hao Xian and Zhang He takes the main flanks of the army. Your spearmen charge forward in a tight formation and when they reach the enemy, a hedgehog of spears destroys the frontal enemy troops and the enemy formation is broken apart immediately. Your horse gallops forward as you slash right and left, leaving a swathe of blood. You see Wei Yan leading a group of elite men to cut apart a section of the enemy. You see Wang Yi nimbly jump across the enemy lines and using her agile body she slices apart enemy soldiers.

The battle rages on for some time and it is clear that your forces have the advantage. Hao Xian and Zhang He both successfully clear the flanks of the enemy, and soon enough Yuan Shu's army is put to route. The first skirmish of Pei ends in victory for your side.

Yuan Shu: -4000 troops
Zheng Li: -300 green, -200 adept, -200 trained
Hao Xian: -200 troops
Zhang He: -200 troops

Well its more to secure our borders and ensure peaceful relations with the Suns.

>does the actual wife's son come first in succession?
Don't take my word for it, but I believe so. It goes like Wife -> Favored Concubine -> Other Whores.

Also when we pick up our Wife, we need to prevent backstabbing from the concubines. They're treacherous bitches, trying to get their child to be heir.
I'm thinking something like "If anything happens to wife or her kids, we'll put the lot of you to the sword."
>>
>>596969
Cai Shi is a concubine. Unless you specifically say otherwise, her sons will not be eligible to be heries. And unless you never produce a son from an official wife.
>>
>>596997
Would prefer not to put something that drastic in place.

>>596998

With regards to the academy, does it have sections to teach upcoming admin officers or is it only dedicated for military? Will we need to set up another school for administration if the second is the case?
>>
>>597003
Military.
>>
>>596992
You first.
>>
>>597003
We'd still probably need to keep an eye on them. Like Cai Shi, she's already trying to weasel more and more for her son. I'd bet Lu Bu's fancy headdress, she's going to keep trying to chip away more and more until he's basically Heir.
>>
>>597005

Damn. Looks like we might have to eventually begin planning another set of public schools.

We could combine it with a proposal for standardised examinations in our areas of control to identify good candidates for administration duties.
>>
>>597012
Oh definitely, we'll watch them. However this is the first request shes made for her son. Lets see how it goes and if she does push again, we'll admonish her.

Of course, if he does show good work and promise in the future, loyal service will still be rewarded.
>>
Man, if we keep and maintain our alliance with Sun, this wont be the three kingdoms era. This will be the two kingdoms era. We'll roll over most, even the cow and BENEVOLENCE.

And then if there ever is a breakdown in relations, we have the absolute worst war in chinese history.
>>
>>597060
depends on how the lines are drawn. If we get the east and Sun gets the west, we are actually better off. Fertile lands, access to some of the more developed cities, and the rivers would be ours. Problem is, it'd make Sun Jian and his family hard to remove since a lot of natural barriers are that way too.
>>
>>597060
>>597093

I wonder how long or how many generations it would take for mutual trust between both sides to break down and lead to war.
>>
>>597005
I'm coming in late to propose a military improvement. It goes like this:

>Test every crossbow in our army for how much it has to be elevated to send the bolt to certain predetermined distances
>Equip the crossbows with simple devices to determine elevation angle.
>Train our crossbowmen to use these devices
>Train the best crossbowmen to determine distances and call them out to their units

This should do wonders for our shooting accuracy.
>>
>>597135
I dont think we can reasonably come up with this with our int.
>>
>>597143
Hope Lu Fan can.
>>
>>597146
Perhaps but I think he'll be focused on politicking and strategy.

Even Kongming only improved the repeater design, not come up with an entirely new system.
>>
>>597135
Researching new tech is too complex, just build blacksmithing/armory too produce better quality weapon and armor our army.
>>
I just had a thought. Can you imagine Zhugeliang under the Sun Banner. He does reside in Nanyang.
>>
>>597156
>>597152

It's not actually a complex tech. The "device" could be as simple as a stick with paint marks. What's hard is to come up with the concept itself.
>>
>>597135
stuff like this reminds me of how almost every civ starts. with some asshole trying to get us to start mining for iron or develop agriculture way earlier than we should realistically be able to
>>
>>597164

Wasn't Zhuge Liang pretty against joining anybody, and thus either outright told them to fuck off, or avoided them when they came to visit? It's just, he'd likely heard tale about Liu Bei "historically", and the dude visited three times and just sat around calmly and waited(apparently), so that's what drew Zhuge's attention to BENEVOLENCE!
>>
>>596908
Thanks for running man
Glad to see our war with Yuan Shu is off to a good start and that our relationship with Wei Yan and the Cai's is going well

>>597209
I'd assume back in Ancient Chinaland, refusing a noble/lord was basically spitting on his face, and they had this weird thing about respect. So if he refused them they'd be all assholish, but when liu bei came he was chill and shit because he was a fucking peasant pretending to be a noble because he was a fucking villain ffs. So Zhuge Liang was all "Whaaaaa? This dude's showing me some respect. I'mma see what this chiggas deal is."

13. T’ung Jên / Fellowship with Men

THE JUDGMENT

FELLOWSHIP WITH MEN in the open.
Success.
It furthers one to cross the great water.
The perseverance of the superior man furthers.

THE LINES

Nine in the fifth place means:
Men bound in fellowship first weep and lament,
But afterward they laugh.
After great struggles they succeed in meeting.
