>Information

This quest takes place long before the events of The Last Airbender. Long before Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, or Yangchen. You play as a young Earthbender from a small village in one of the many Kingdoms scattered across the main continent. As a powerful villain strives to dominate the world, you will be forced to make choices that can stop it, aid it, or have no effect whatsoever.

>Rules

After each update I make, there will be a voting period of ten minutes. Once ten minutes have passed, whatever option has the most support will be the winner.

Write-ins are accepted, but only when specified If you see a write-in option, suggest whatever you like. If not, choose from the options I have provided.

Sometimes, rolls will be required. I will assign them, and they will operate under a d100 system. You will have three chances, and if one of the rolls succeeds, you pass. There are no crits, but I do take into account how much you succeed or fail by.

I reserve the right to veto certain write-ins, but will try to avoid doing so.

I hope you all have fun

I'm ready to be.
>>
The village has been tense lately.

Normally a peaceful place, free of war, and even mostly free of crime, the village you call home has always been a wonderful place to live. Everybody knows each other, and virtually everyone treats one another with kindness. Sitting at the edge of a forest, and close to a stream, there is always plenty of exploring to do, fish to catch, and a myriad of other things to occupy your time, which is good, because there aren't many people your age living there.

You're fourteen years old, still quite young, but reaching the age where responsibilities are beginning to appear, and your free time is becoming more and more precious to you. Your parents run a small shop, selling hand-crafted trinkets to scrape together a living.

Your father is an Earthbender, and a veteran of the last war your kingdom fought in. He's known as a hero to the villagers for helping keep the kingdom safe and independent. Now, he's been called by Lord Ghonhu to defend the western border, as have most of the men from your village. In fact, aside from the elderly, you're really the only man in this village.

So, your mom's been depending on you more these past few weeks. Right now, she's sent you off to gather some firewood. You're in charge of preparing dinner tonight, so you don't have too much time to waste.

You can head to the North woods and probably finish quickly, or head South to the stream and see if your friend Handa is there.

There isn't any need to rush, so long as you don't waste too much time. You decide to go South.

The walk through the woods to reach the stream is usually pretty safe, but you stay alert. The forest always has its predator's, and you don't have any weapons on you. At least, no normal ones.

You're an Earthbender, one of the few in your village. Your father's taught you the basics, and you're pretty sure you could hold your own in a fight, but it's probably better not to take that risk.

Reaching the stream without incident, you find Handa, just as you were hoping.

She's the closest to your age in the village, only a few months older than you. Her parents sell fish in the village, which is why she's at the stream today. You notice the spear in her hand, and the small pile of fish at her side. Looks like she's been hard at work today.

Her back is turned to you, and she's wearing the simple brown clothing she normally puts on to do her job. Her shoulder-length brown hair blows as a small breeze comes through, and she raises her right hand, throwing the spear into the stream. When she pulls it back out, you see that she's managed to capture another fish.

As she turns to add it to the pile, you walk over, offering a greeting.

"Hey," she greets pleasantly, setting the spear down for a second. "What are you doing out here?"

You explain to her that you were sent to find some firewood, but you got bored and decided to come see her.

Her brown eyes narrow slightly. "Well, glad you think I'm more exciting than picking up sticks. But, I don't really have time to hang out today, there's a lot of extra work to do with dad called to the West."

She's told you that a lot these past few weeks. The two of you usually spend your free time exploring the woods together, or sometimes skipping stones when you don't feel like doing that. But, with the men of the village gone, the children and teenagers have had a lot more work to do, and the two of you just haven't had any free time.

There is a way the two of you can do your jobs and spend some time together. You offer to help her catch some fish if she helps you collect some firewood.

Her lips curl upward, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "I'm not so sure that's a good idea, remember last time?"

You vaguely remember the spear ending up in a tree, and falling into the stream when you climbed up to try and retrieve it. But, in your defense, you're pretty sure that only happened because she decided to scare you when you were about to throw the spear. Still, that doesn't keep her from bringing it up constantly.

"Thanks," she tells you. "But I only brought the one spear. We can hang out later, okay?"

That's that, you suppose. Agreeing to hang out later, you leave her to her work, and undergo the process of gathering firewood. It doesn't take very long, and you soon return to the village, placing the wood in its proper place.

Now, all that remains to be done is for you to find something to eat. Stepping inside your home, you pass by your mother, who runs the shop on the ground floor.

"Did you get the firewood?" she asks, looking away from a customer for just a moment.

>A. Yeah, you just need to hunt something to eat

Telling her that you have, you ask where your dad's hunting spear is.

"Hanging on the wall in my room," she answers before turning her attention back to the man in front of her. "Be careful out there."

She doesn't say more than that; she has faith in you, and you know better than to mess around out there. Walking upstairs, you enter your parent's room, approaching the rack on the wall, which hangs below the head of a tigerdilo your dad killed some time ago.

All of the other weapons are gone; your dad took most of them with him, and your mother carries the dagger he left begins. His spear hangs alone, and you leave the rack bare as you remove it.

You've been hunting before, and there's plenty to eat around here, so you shouldn't have much trouble. The woods to the north are usually where you hunt, and, wanting to get this done with quickly, you decide to head there today.

Creeping around while making as little noise as possible, you keep your ears open, searching for any sounds that could indicate some sort of animal. For a short time, you hear nothing, but as you continue your search, you hear a twig snap to your left.

Stopping in your tracks, you slowly turn in that direction, finding yourself facing a tall bush, which begins to rustle.

Ignoring your instincts to attack or retreat, you instead remain still, readying your spear just in case it's a predator, but restraining yourself from throwing in case it's a person.

That turns out to have been a good decision, as what emerges from the bushes is indeed a person.

She's a girl, looking not too much older than you, with short black hair, and green eyes that widen in surprise when she sees you standing there with a spear. Her clothes are ripped and dirty, making it difficult to tell what their original color was, and you notice a twig stuck in her hair. She's probably been traveling in the woods for a while, or else has had a very eventful trip.

Eyes on your spear, she drops into a stance you recognize as one used by Earthbenders.

"Are you working for Jongu?" she asks, voice growing stern and eyes narrowing.

"Who?" you ask, confused.

"Jongu!" she repeats, her tone impatient. "The Warlord!"

"No," you tell her, not knowing who that is, but certain you aren't working for any Warlord.

The girl visibly relaxes, though she maintains her stance, and eyes your spear cautiously. Her strange behavior and disheveled appearance prompt you to ask her who she is.

"I'm Lantana," she girl answers, her stern and irritable tone fading somewhat.

Following her answer, you ask what she's doing out here.

"Hey, no fair, you asked the last question," she tells you, a small trace of suspicion working its way into her voice. "What are you doing out here?"

"I'm hunting for my village," you answer. "But you look like you've been out here for a week, are you alright?"

"I'm fine," she answers. "Wait, village?"

"About what?" you ask, not sure how seriously to take the girl.

"Jongu!" she tells you, growing more distressed by the second. "His men are going to be heading right for your village! We have to warn them!"

Whether or not she's telling the truth, you can't take that risk with the lives of your friends and family.

"Alright," you relent, turning and rushing back toward the village.

Despite clearly being exhausted, Lantana keeps pace with you pretty well, managing to stick just beyond you as you tear through the forest. No longer caring about being quiet, you make a fair amount of noise as you run home, so much so that a few villagers have stopped what they're doing, and look toward the woods as you and the girl emerge from the trees.

"What's wrong?" Handa's mother asks, approaching you with a concerned expression.

"The village is in danger!" Lantana explains.

Handa's mother regards the girl with a surprised expression. "And how would you know that? I've never seen you around here before."

"I'm not from around here," she confirms. "I've been running from the people that are on their way here!"

"Wait, you lead him here?!" you ask accusingly, feeling anger begin to bubble inside of you.

"No," she insists, holding up her hands defensively. "He's been heading this way for a while now, I'm just going in the same direction."

"Who's coming?" Handa's mother asks.

"Jongu," Lantana answers. "He's a powerful Warlord who's been conquering Kingdoms on the Western continent. Now, he's leading his army this way."

That would explain why your dad was called West. To reach your village, Jongu would have had to get through the defenses Lord Ghonhu set up on the border. You don't want to believe that something's happened to your father, so you ask the girl how Jongu's forces got past the soldiers.

"There weren't enough people to stop him," Lantana tells you, terrible regret in her voice. "They fought hard, but they were all killed or captured."

You feel as though she just punched you in the gut. Your dad's gone, if not dead, being a held a prisoner by some kind of madman.

"How many people does Jongu have?" you ask numbly.

"A lot," Lantana answers vaguely. "I don't know exactly how many, but there seem to be more every time he captures a village."

"Well, he's not going to capture ours," Handa's mother tells her, a determined expression on her face.

She looks to you. "Warn your mother, and anyone else you can find, we need to defend the village."

"You can't!" Lantana insists. "There are too many of them, you can't stop them!"

"This is our home," Handa's mother counters. "And we'll protect it with our lives."

Handa's mom may be willing to lay down her life for her home, but you believe what Lantana said; the villagers won't be able to stop this madman. As much as it pains you, you agree that you have to leave the village behind.

Handa's mother is not happy when you voice your opinion.

"We can't just run!" she tells you angrily. "Our lives are here, none of us have the money to just start a new life someplace else."

"You can't afford to stay, either," Lantana tells her. "Jongu will capture or kill anybody who doesn't pledge loyalty to him. You can either let him have your village, leave, or die."

"Or we can stay and fight!" she insists.

"Yunta!" you shout, getting her attention by making this one of the rare occasions where you use her name. "Think about this. All of the men were killed and captured by these people. We can't stop them with women and the elderly."

Lantana gives you a peeved look at that last sentence.

"If we leave, they may take everything, but at least we'll have our lives," you continue. "We can rebuild. Think about what will happen to you, Handa, and the other women in the village if they're captured by soldiers. Please, we have to leave."

The thought of what could become of her daughter seems to finally break Yunta's stubborn resolve. The determination to fight to the end is replaced with resigned sorrow.

"But, we can't outrun them," she tells you. "They'll catch us eventually."

"Not if I hold them off," Lantana tells her.

"You?!" Yunta asks incredulously, her voice going up a few octaves. "What are you going to do?"

"I've fought Jongu's men a few times," Lantana answers. "I should be able to keep them distracted for a short bit. Enough time for you to get a good head start."

This girl seems confident, but you really doubt she can just hold off an entire army by herself. You doubt staying behind would be of much help, either, but you decide to do it anyway, volunteering to help her fight.

Lantana shakes her head. "No, go with your family. One more person here won't make a difference."

"Your mother wouldn't let you stay behind, anyway," Yunta tells you. "She won't leave without you."

You see smoke rising in the distance. Either a forest fire's started, or the army's on its way. Either way, you're running out of time.

"It's my decision," you tell both of them. "I'm staying."

Lantana sighs, her shoulders drooping just a bit, as if she's already watched you die in this battle.

"Alright," she gives in. "But I'm in charge here; follow my instructions and we both have a better chance of staying alive."

"I'm telling you, your mother won't let you stay," Yunta insists.

"Then tell her I went ahead," you tell her. "Somebody has to stay and protect the village."

Lantana raises an eyebrow.

"Someone from the village," you clarify.

Knowing that she won't convince you otherwise, Yunta goes to round up the other villagers. As the people begin to panic and rush to grab whatever they can before fleeing, Lantana grabs you by the arm, dragging you to the nearby woods, out of sight of your mother or anyone else.

"Yea, my dad taught me how to fight," you tell her. "And, I'm an Earthbender."

She doesn't seem particularly impressed by that, but gives you a nod. "Alright, then do as I say, and we might be able to give the others a chance to escape."

"I could try putting up obstacles with my Earthbending," you tell her. "We could try to force the army in one direction, or just slow them down. But, I've never tried anything like that before."

"I'm not sure how much that would help," she admits. "Jungo has plenty of Earthbenders working for him, not to mention some Water and Firebenders."

That's actually kind of surprising. Most Waterbenders live in the polar regions, and most Firebenders live in the Volcanic Islands. Finding them on the main continent is supposed to be pretty rare.

"Still, you can help me put up some walls," she tells you. "They should be coming from the West, and in most of the battle's I've seen, he hasn't divided his men. He's just used numbers and strength to overwhelm his opponents."

"So, we'll leave the other directions open as escape routes?" you ask.

"Exactly," Lantana tells you with a nod. "We won't be able to hold them off forever, and once they push through, we're going to need to run as fast as we can."

"How many times have you fought this guy?" you ask, not really understanding how she could know so much about this Jungo and his army.

"I've lost count," she answers. "But, I do a little better every time I fight him. I've picked up a few things in every fight."

It doesn't look like any of her fights with this guy have gone very well. Yet, here she is, ready to go another round, and all to protect people she doesn't know.

But why.

"I probably shouldn't bring this up, but why are you helping us?" you finally ask, unable to stop from voicing your curiosity.

"I have a duty to stop men like Jungo," she answers. "But, so far I haven't done a very good job at that. So, the least I can do is try to protect as many people as I can from him."

The village has gone silent, and you don't see anybody there anymore.

"Come on," the girl tells you. "Let's get ready."

The two of you walk side by side to the western entrance of the village. The trees on either side form a nice natural border for the wall that the two of you will have to make.

"Yeah," you tell her.

Standing side by side, the two of you raise a large chunk of Earth from the ground below, one solid piece creating a wall that blocks off the Western entrance to your village. It was pretty easy for the two of you to set up, which makes you worry that it will be easy to tear down.

"Maybe we should try making hidden pits or something," you suggest. "We're dealing with Earthbenders, after all, and we need to slow them down."

Lantana looks at you as if that's the first intelligent suggestion you've made today.

"Good idea," she tells you. "Do you have anything to cover the holes with?"

You recall the firewood you've gathered. That might work.

The two of you create a series of scattered holes behind your wall, and cover them with sicks and branches. Anyone who looks closely will know what's going on. But if the Earthbenders pass through your wall and march forward, a few are bound to fall in.

You hear a horn blowing in the distance.

"Here they come," Lantana warns, raising herself on a pillar of rock.

Doing the same, you see the approaching army. Hundreds of soldiers march toward your walls, lead by a man in armor riding on top of an ostrich horse. Most of the soldiers seem to be wearing basic armor beneath their clothes, and most of them carry swords, axes, or hammers, though a few don't seem to have weapons, which leads you to believe that they are benders.

The man on the ostrich horse looks up at you and Lantana. He has a dark mustache, a short beard, and an armored helmet on his head.

"So, Jungo was right," he comments, staring at Lantana. "You decided to try and defend this village. Good."

This guy may not be Jungo, but he seems to be the one in charge of this attack, so you're gonna take him out here and now.

Using your bending, you rip a chunk of stone from the pillar upon which you stand, taking care not to do so in a way that will cause it to collapse. It's not very large, but it should do its job.

You bring the stone up, and with your bending, hurl it at the man, striking him in the head and knocking him clean off his ostrich horse, which rears up and cries in surprise.

Latana chuckles as two soldiers run to check on their fallen superior.

Your attack doesn't seem to have killed him, but it sure does look like it made him angry.

"Get them!" he orders dizzily. "Kill them both!"

A pair of the non-weapon-wielding men step forward, combining their strength to rip a large chunk of rock from the ground, which they then proceed to send flying up at you.

Also folks, there are a number of ways you can use bending to kill the shit out of people.

Bending mud, dust or sand into people's lungs through the mouth and nose to suffocate them.
Bending a rock into their body through the mouth, anus or an open wound and destroying their internal organs.
Opening the earth beneath them and closing it behind them as they fall.
Accelerating a small pebble to extreme speeds like a bullet rather than a large boulder.
Encasing their limbs in stone and ripping them apart.
Crushing their windpipe with a ring of stone around the neck.

Be sure to come up with as many new methods as possible.
We need options.

Quickly dropping the pillar you stand upon, you avoid the stone, which sails over your head and lands on top of one of the small homes nearby, an unintended bit of destruction that gives you an idea.

Using your bending, you create a second pillar halfway between yourself and the ground, jumping down on top of it before turning back to what's left of your large pillar. Stomping on new pillar and moving your arms, you break a large chunk off of the larger pillar, and hurl it blindly over the wall.

Screams from the other side alert you to your success.

Meanwhile, a colossal rock heads for Lantana, who stands her ground and punches it, breaking it into tiny pieces which she then proceeds to launch back at the invaders. Then, you see her gasp and quickly drop her pillar, looking up as arrows fly overhead.

"Well, they've probably forgotten about the other villagers," she tells you as the wall in front of you shakes.

"Is it time to run?" you ask her, throwing another chunk of stone over the wall.

"It's sooner than I was hoping for," she tells you. "But I don't think that wall's going to hold out much longer. Hopefully we can get out of here before their archers can start taking shots."

"What if we built a dome?" you ask. "If they think we're inside of it, they'll focus on that and won't see us running away."

Lantana glances nervously toward the wall, which continues to tremble. "Too risky. If we're going to run, we should do it now. Otherwise, we'll just have to stand and fight."

"Then, let's run," you tell her.

Giving a nod, Lantana rushes East, and you quickly catch up with her. The wall behind you begins to crumble, and you suggest that the two of you pull up some pillars to make it harder for them to aim.

"No, let's make another wall!" she tells you, stopping and spinning toward the collapsing wall in the distance.

Stopping and turning, you help her pull up a wall before beginning to run once again.

"That should give us enough of a head start," Lantana tells you as you dash down the trail away from the village. "Now we just need to find a good place to-"

A massive wall of stone suddenly rises in front of you, forcing both you and Lantana to stop dead in your tracks. As you begin to turn, a second comes up behind you, then a third to your left.

You find yourself boxed in as several figures emerge from the forest.

At the front of the group are two men who look better equipped than the man who lead the assault on your village. They wear more solid-looking armor, that's also quite form-fitting, probably making movement easier.

Behind them is a tall, imposing man with dark-hair, an intimidating gaze, long, black hair, strong-looking armor, and a cape. A scar runs down behind his left eye, which shines with a mad delight along with the right.

At his side stands a person with a dark, hooded cloak that obscures all features, other than the fact that they're apparently pretty thin.

"Well, look at this," the man with the scar says happily. "We've finally got you, Avatar."

Avatar?

Lantana glares at the man, her hands clenching into fists, and her green eyes narrowing with anger.

"I have to say," the scarred-man continues. "I was expecting more. The stories say the Avatar is an amazing master of all four elements, an unstoppable force empowered by the spirits. But all I got was a little girl trying to play hero."

Lantana begins to tremble with anger, but keeps her mouth shut.

"Still, you've managed to be quite the little nuisance," the man tells her, shaking his head. "A few of my men would probably like to have some words about the injuries you caused them."

"What about the injuries they caused all those people?" Lantana demands, finally reaching the point where anger overrules self-preservation. "They got what they deserved!"

The cloaked figure steps forward, but the man with the scar raises a hand, causing the figure to halt.

"That's their own fault," the man tells Lantana. "If they'd just surrendered, we all could have got along just fine. But, they chose to fight, and, well, in any battle, there has to be losers."

Even if Lantana is the Avatar like this guy says she is, this situation does not look good. She hasn't been able to stop this guy yet, and now she's tired and cornered.

With escape seeming impossible, you decide to ask what's going to become of you.

"Fair question," the scarred man remarks, temporarily taking his attention off Latana. "And its answer largely depends on you. You're an Earthbender, and from what I saw, you can hold your own in a battle. You could be useful."

He points to the ground at this feet.

"Take your offer, and shove it up your ass," you tell the man.

Lantana sniggers, while cloaked figure readies to attack. The scarred man scowls, backhanding you across the face and knocking you to the ground.

"You'll die like the rest, then," he declares.

Suddenly, he leaps back as a wall of rock separates you from him.

"Hey, your fight's with me, leave him out of this," Lantana declares.

"Don't worry, you'll be joining him," the man tells her.

"What? You mean you're going to use your whole army to take down two kids?" she challenges. "And here I thought you were supposed to be strong, Jungo."

Peaking from behind the wall, you see the man scowl, and the cloaked figure turn toward him.

"She's trying to goad you, Jungo," it speaks, revealing itself to be female. "Don't let her bait you."

"Sure, you could have your army beat me," Lantana admits. "But wouldn't you rather do it yourself? Think about it, you'd be a legend!"

"Yes..."Jungo agrees. "Jungo, the might conqueror who single-handedly defeated the Avatar!"

"So then, you and me," Lantana suggests. "If I win, you let us both go, and your army stops here."

"And if I win, I have the pleasure of destroying the Avatar, and my army continues East," Jungo tells her. "Very well."

It sounds interesting but I wouldn't want to be punched in the face with a pebble in our mouth. As far as the protags future combat style I hope for an aggressive unarmed attacker with hard hitting or strategic earthbending. Or metal bending.

Also we need a name, I warmed up to Sei

"Do you really think you can win alone?" you ask the girl.

"I'm not sure," she whispers to you. "But there's a better chance of us getting out of here if I try. So just sit back and watch, or see if you can find a way for a quick escape."

"Drop the walls," Jungo instructs.

The man at his side do as he commands, using Earthbending to drop the walls that keep you and Lantana trapped. Of course, that doesn't much help you, as soldiers surround you at all sides.

"Men," Jungo addresses his soldiers. "You have all fought hard at my side with the hope of uniting the continent under one banner! Your faith has not been misplaced, and I will prove it by destroying the Avatar here and now!"

The soldiers begin to cheer, and the people Jungo arrived with back away, giving their leader some space for the fight.

"Stand back," Lantana tells you.

Taking some steps back, you watch as the battle begins.

Lantana stomps, thrusting her right fist upward and ripping a chunk of Earth from the ground. Spinning, she kicks it toward Jungo, who obliterates it with a punch. As the stone falls to chunks around him, Jungo directs them back toward Lantana, shooting dozens of smaller projectiles right at her.

Lantana pulls up a wall of stone to defend herself, then pushes it toward Jungo, who launches himself over it with a pillar of Earth, landing on the other side and stomping.

The ground in front of him trembles, rising slightly. This continues in a line until it reaches Lantana's right leg. Jungo makes a pulling motion, and Lantana's right foot is dragged away from her left, causing her to fall off balance and toward the ground in front of her.

Jungo rips up a large chunk of Earth, throwing it at Lantana with the intent to crush her flat, but the girl slams her fists against the ground, then thrusts them toward the approaching stone, sending two pillars up in a diagonal path to intercept the stone.

As the rocks collide and shatter, Lantana gets back up, using her bending to slice four disks off the pillars and bring them to her. They begin to spin around her, positioning themselves to shield her from further attack as she rips one of the pillars from the ground and hurls it at Jungo.

The warlord dives out of the way to avoid being crushed, only to see two disks spinning toward him. He creates a wall to stop the disks, then pushes it toward Lantana, who dives around it, only to be struck with another chunk of Earth that sends her rolling back.

She ends up in a crouch, watching as Jungo starts toward her.

She flings her last two disks toward him, but he rips up another chunk of rock that stops them both. He hurls it at Lantana, who tries to dodge, but isn't fast enough to avoid being struck and thrown to the ground.

Jungo laughs, stepping toward her as she picks herself back up.

"Don't give up," you implore Lantana.

"I won't," she promises, stepping toward the approaching warlord.

Jungo brings up two more rocks, hurling them in Lantana's direction. Once more, she brings up a wall, which is quickly broken apart by Jungo's projectiles. However, the warlord can't follow up, as the ground beneath his left foot suddenly gives out, opening into a large pit into which he falls.

Lantana stomps forward, pouring rock and dirt down into the pit on top of her foe, seeming to be attempting to bury him alive.

The girl is breathing heavily, between her exhaustion and the hits she took, you're pretty amazed that she's still standing. Yet, somehow it appears that she's won.

Dirt and rock explode from the pit, and Jungo rises out on a large platform that soon towers over the Avatar.

"I've had enough of this!" he declares in a rage. "You are going to die!"

Lantana's made him angry, and that's made him careless. It's a long way down from where he stands. Atop that pillar, he may be difficult to reach for most people, but against Earthbenders, he's made a very stupid mistake.

Stepping forward, you interfere in the battle, stomping on the ground and moving the ground beneath the pillar, causing it to tilt toward you. As Jungo begins to slide forward, you break off a chunk of the stone he's standing on, causing him to fall.

As he plummets, you see his head turn toward the cloaked figure, who watches passively as he races toward imminent death. With a final scream, Jungo strikes the ground, going still as his men look on in horror.

Lantana recovers from her shock quickly and yanks toe colossal pillar down, bringing it crashing to the ground. Dust is kicked up, and the loud crash startles the mounts of some of the soldiers.

"Come on!" she shouts, grabbing your wrist and rushing down the path.

"We need to lose them in the forest!" you tell Lantana. "Their arrows will get us out here!"

As if to prove your point, an arrow whistles past your head, striking the ground in front of you and Lantana. Spinning around, the two of you erect a wall and push it toward the oncoming soldiers before making a run for the forest. Just before you reach the treeline, a wall rises to block your path.

Stopping in your tracks, you turn to see a trio of unarmed men launching toward you.

"Keep them off me for a few seconds!" Lantana tells you, getting into a stance. "Let me take care of this wall!"

If Lantana needs a few seconds, you can provide that. Stomping on the ground and making a yanking motion with your hands, you pull the Earthbender's legs out from under him, causing him to fall to his back and his rock to drop down toward his head.

The other two men catch the strong with pillars that rise diagonally all around the fallen bender, trapping it before it can crush the one who brought it up.

A crash behind you alerts you that Lantana's brought down the wall, and the two of you rush into the woods, dashing as fast as you can away from the pursuing army.

The soldiers don't venture far into the forest, and you think you're in the clear after a few minutes, but then, you look behind you to see someone rushing in your direction.

The cloaked figure from before is running toward you at great speed, and a glint of light alerts you as she produces a small dagger from her right sleeve.

As the woman comes running, you decide to go with the strategy that seems to have been the most effective in dealing with your foes. You use your Earthbending to manipulate the ground ahead of the woman, moving it as she steps there, and causing her to fall forward.

The dagger retracts into the woman's sleeve, and she throws her legs upward, landing in a handstand. At that moment, Lantana hurls a chunk of rock at the figure, who springs off of the ground and flips over the rock, bringing her dagger back out and drawing a second from her other sleeve.

She points the two blades, one toward you, and one toward Kalana, remaining otherwise motionless.

Whoever this person is, they're quite agile, and you doubt those daggers are for show. It's time to make it impossible for them to run.

Like Lantana did against Jungo, you attempt to collapse the ground beneath the woman's feet and drop her into a pit. As the ground begins to stir, the woman dashes forward, hurling the dagger in her right hand with deadly accuracy, aiming right between your eyes.

A wall of stone, courtesy of Lantana, is all that saves you, and the two of you find that such a defense won't last for long, as the mysterious woman leaps over it, landing behind the two of you and leaping, hooking her left foot behind your head and throwing you to the ground.

As she lands, Lantana, hurls a stone at her, but the woman spins out of the way, tossing the knife toward the Avatar. Luckily, Lantana is already on the move, and the woman's knife throw results in nothing more than a glancing blow to her cheek.

From your current position, you have a good opportunity to throw your foe off-balance, but not through bending.

Pulling in your legs, you kick at the legs of the other person, knocking her off her feet and causing her to collapse on top of you. You take a swing at her head, but she recovers quickly and parries the strike, pushing against your chest and getting back to her feet.

As the woman takes a step back, Lantana creates a wall behind her, keeping her from retreating any further. Then, another wall separates you from the attacker, and you can hear two more rising.

The hooded figure is boxed in.

Lantana walks over and grabs your wrist, helping you to your feet. "Alright, now let's get-"

A wooshing sound from inside the box gets your attention, and you watch at the cloaked woman leaps out of it, jumping to impossible heights as she reaches the altitude of the trees.

Moving her hands around, she pulls in her right arm, then thrusts it toward you and Lantana. The next thing you know, some sort of invisible force slams into your bodies, throwing both of you to the ground as the figure begins to descend. You watch as her fall suddenly slows, allowing her to land comfortably on both feet.

"Nice try," she compliments, raising her hands and getting ready for more. "But you won't be escaping this time."

"No way...." Lantana gasps as she begins to pick herself up.

Or we take a long ass time to slowly dig a tunnel to minimize vibrations and sound.

If that doesn't work one of us will start launching rocks big enough that she can't use her bending to launch back to us while the other tries to trap her
>>
>>587773
Vibrations are an earth thing. I think we should be safe tunneling away
>>
>>587773
Or we just spike the shit out of her when she tries to bust through.
>>
>>587782
Depending on how deep we go she might still feel it. Don't want to underestimate her. Then again I'm a paranoid ass
>>
>>587773
Why run? We can take her if were smart, we already are hiding inside a giant dome of earth that we can bend. If she gets inside them we can just have spikes coming out from all directions
>>
>>587790
What if you just create a tunnel under the dome and seal yourselves inside, so the dome is empty but there's no hole inside.
>>
>>587791
>Why run away
Because we're trying to get away not kill everyone we meet.

Also she's really dangerous.
I don't think we can take her.

"Lantana, help me make a dome," you tell the Avatar.

Nodding quickly, she works with you to raise the Earth that surrounds you, performing a protective shell around the two of you. This woman is not an Earthbender, so she shouldn't be able to attack you once you're in there.

Attempting to stop you, the woman produces another dagger, hurling it at your throat, but stone rises just in time to stop it, saving you from certain death, and allowing you to finish creating your dome.

Wind howls outside of your improvised fortress, demanding that the Earth move out of its way. But, the proud Earth stands strong, refusing to bow to the wind's demands. Your defenses stand.

"OVER HERE!" you hear the woman shout outside. "BEFORE THEY ESCAPE!"

"We need to tunnel out of here," Lantana tells you, creating a hole in the ground.

Coming to her side, you combine your bending power with hers, widening the hole and making it deeper, until it's large enough for the two of you to drop down into it. From the hole, the two of you create a tunnel, and use it to head away from your dome. As you leave, Lantana fills the original hole, which should make it nearly impossible for the enemy to track you.

The two of you are cast into darkness, blindly moving ahead toward an unknown location. Still, you've escaped death for the time being, things have calmed down. Now is a good time to voice questions or concerns.

reminder that the assassin at least, knows what we plan to do.
she might find us if we don't do a double-triple-reverse-backsies feint and make it look like we already popped up somewhere when we didn't.
>>
>>587855
As long as we collapse the tunnel behind us I don't see how they could follow us.
>>
>>587860
We closed the hole in the floor of the dome, but she expects us to do that.
She knows we're going to tunnel out, so we need to make it look like we finished tunneling and escaped somewhere, essentially doing the same thing twice.

She won't expect that.
>>
>>587873
What I'm saying is there is 12 directions we could be tunneling, if we just collapse the tunnel as we go they will have no idea which direction we went.
>>
>>587873
Further, we need to close up the tunnel for several meters, not just close up a thin wall, so if they try to dig at it with earthbending, it won't look like anything is there.

We should also turn left or right after that and continue closing it up for another few meters, so that if they tunnel straight ahead, they won't find us since we'll have changed direction.

>>587879
That's essentially what i'm saying as well, i just want to try and trick them by making it look like we've already surfaced first.
>>
>>587889
I guess, the feint seems unneeded to me though.

"So, how come you only used Earthbending back there?" you ask as you work your way through the darkness. "I thought the Avatar was supposed to be the master of all four elements."

In front of you, Lantana sighs. "It's not that simple. The Avatar isn't born knowing how to use all of the elements. I came from a family of Earthbenders. What I need is to find some people to teach me the other three; water, fire, and air."

"So, where are you going, then?" you ask.

"The Eastern Air Temple," she answers before pushing further into the rock.

"Why?" you inquire.

"When Jungo started conquering the continent, he turned his forces on the Western Air Temple," Lantana explains. "But, after a day, his army turned back. The Airbenders are the only ones who have been able to stand against this army."

>A. But Jungo's dead, so is that really a problem?

"But, Jungo's dead," you remind her. "So, is that really a problem?"

"Someone else is just going to take over," Lantana tells you, certainty and dread in her tone. "This isn't over, not by a long shot."

"Well, it would be nice to have a counter to that crazy Airbending lady," you admit.

"Yeah," she agrees. "I just don't get it. I thought the Air Nomads never left their temples, and definitely didn't get involved in wars."

It is strange. You've never seen an Airbender in your life, either. But, if they're anywhere near as dangerous as that woman was, they may be able to make Lantana strong enough to defeat this army.

The army. They'll be looking for you now. You killed their leader. If they find you, they'll kill you, and anyone connected to you. Your mother, Handa, nobody will be safe with you around. But, if you go on alone, you won't be safe.

"Can I come with you?" you suddenly blurt out.

The sound of Lantana's movement stops, and you can feel her eyes on you.

"I get the feeling they're going to come after me, whether I'm with your or not," you tell her. "So, it's easier if there's two of us fighting instead of one."

Silence passes in the darkness, until Lantana turns and resumes her work on the path. "Alright."

You step beside her, and aid her in her work.

"You fought really well back there," she tells you before pushing ahead. "I might not have made it without you."

"I don't know about "great", I did have to save you a few times," she points out in a somewhat smug tone.

"Yeah, you were rock solid," you tell her.

The result is far more laughter than you were expecting, far more than such a stupid pun really warrants. But, you can tell that it's genuine, and when she finally stops laughing, you ask her if she's okay.

"Yeah," she tells you, sounding like she's in slightly higher spirits. "I just haven't laughed and joked around in a long time."

"How long have you been running?" you ask.

"I think it's been about a year," Lantana answers, the joy vanishing from her voice once again.

A year? No wonder she looks the way that she does.

"You know, the Northern Air Temple is closer," you tell the girl. "Why not go there?"

"I came from the far West of the continent," Lantana answers. "North of there, there was only ocean. Going East just seemed easier to me, but if we are where I think we are, maybe we should just head for the Northern Temple. Anyway, we should be far enough away by now. Let's go back to the surface and find a place to sleep."

"How about we make a fake exit to confuse the army first?" you suggest.

"Alright," Lantana agrees.

The two of you follow your plan, creating an exit the army will think is where you escaped, then continue moving on before making your real escape to the surface, and closing the exit back up.

Side by side, you and Lantana walk deeper into the woods, preparing for a long journey.
