Stage 135: What is best in life?

The look on the face of the young woman you call your wife as you stalk across the bed slowly is one of both trepidation and anticipation. Yui rolls out of your way (and incidentally into Akari's arms) as you crawl across the bed (careful not to ruin the thick silk blankets that cover it with your very, very sharp talons) towards the supple, well endowed Wood dragonette. You slowly lower yourself, your tail lashing slowly, your long, long hair sliding along the bed, your not entirely closed robe revealing lots and lots of pale skin. Your dragon's eyes of sapphire gleam in the reflection of her soft, sky blue eyes and she swallows nervously.

With a flick of your head and a soft rush of a cool breeze you pull your hair to one side as you slowly lower yourself to lie on the bed and roll over on your back, resting the back of your head on her warm, silk-clad belly. You reach out your hands and offer them, one taken by the soft, cool hand of your best friend and lover (pregnant with your child, as is the woman upon whose belly your head rests) and the other by your wife herself.

“Totally my turn,” you claim, to giggles, laughter, and at least one face-palm.

“Bakayaro,” your priestess claims, not entirely with enough annoyance to make it stick. You moves over, and lays her head on your belly, angling herself so her tail and ankles and tangled with those of Akari, whose head remains along your wife's thighs. Kiku-chan fidgets, playing with the hem of her boyishly (literally, it is made for young boys) sleeping kimono, and murmurs something in Ainu.

Your mother's tongue. What a strange thought.

Er Yin laughs softly, and releases her lover, who slowly makes her way to where you are, and curls up next to you and her sister, resting her head in the crook of your arm. You squeeze Kiki-hime's hand as Er Yin carefully moves to lie among you. Your tail wraps about hers, the fan caressing her side lightly.

“You won't be going anywhere for a while, will you, otousan?” This comes from Kiku-chan, rather than Kiki-hime, which surprises both you and Kiki-hime.

“Hey now, don't call attention to my relaxing at home with my family. Someone might hear you and decide I'm bored.” There isn't any more heat in your voice than there was in her mild name-calling. Yui-chan giggles, making you smile. “Did you have plans in the middle of the night that I should know about, Kiku-kasan?” She shakes her head against your side. In the interests of delivering a kiss to that head of soft hair lift your head high enough to nearly poke your eye out on her coppery horns; not cool.

A little more maneuvering and you manage to get a kiss onto her incredibly fine red hair before you relax once more and let Kiki-hime stroke your horns. “Well, as long as you don't suddenly vomit lava on me-” that startles Kiki-hime, and makes Yui look up at you to see if you are joking (you aren't), “-then I'm perfectly content to be right here.”

“'s not morning,” she murmurs sleepily.

Yui looks up at you and mouths the word 'lava' with a quizzical look on her soft face. You nod and she shakes her head, marveling at dragonette biology.

“Besides, I feel much better. I might even be able to sleep for a few hours, if Er Yin is willing to allow us use of her fantastically soft bed.” You're not joking, it's a really soft, warm bed, made all the more so by the lovely, beloved, and beautiful women draped all over it.

Er Yin smiles and kisses Kiki-hime's hand softly, making her blush rather brightly. Interesting; it's not just you. “I said it when first we met, all I have, all I am is for Horobi to use and enjoy.”

“Not quite like that, but I'm certain that's how you meant it,” you reply mildly, smiling as Akari's lips brush your still tender talons. “Right now, all I want, all I need, all I could possibly handle is right here, right now.”

“You too.” Murmurs Akari sleepily.

“No, Jesus Jones,” you reply, and she squeezes your hand – carefully.

Yui seems to be considering something, and hesitantly looks up at you. She clearly wants to ask a question, but she's reluctant to do so; her glance at Er Yin tells you it's probably somewhat personal.

“Remember what I told you about privacy, secrecy, and privilege, and you should be just fine,” murmurs Akari, a little less sleepily than before. Working with competent people training your people is going to spoil you rotten, you can tell.

“It's not anything you want to keep private, is it, my lovely one?” you ask curiously. Convincing Yui she could ask anything she needed or wanted has taken quite a bit of time compared to other people. She does blush at your gentle – and truly meant – compliment. “Because now I want to know what it is you want to know, because you are very strange sometimes, Yui-niji-chan.”

“Uh huh,” she agrees mildly with your comment of her being strange. You hope that doesn't become a habit like the one Akari has. “Nothing private to me, really....I was just wondering....” She turns over and rests her arms across your leg, looking at Er Yin. “How do you know so much about Horobi, Er Yin-sensei? I mean....isn't he Japanese?”

That is an interesting question. Kiku-chan even deferred to her on two occasions, as you recall.

“Not originally, no, Yui-san. Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado was called by another name among the Ainu, Poronitne Kamuy, which basically means 'the One who Comes over the Ocean.' He brings tsunami and hurricanes with him, and is considered something like a demon. The association with rain and storms made him the bringer of destructive rains, hence Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado. He is old, and more....myth than person.” Kiku-chan is breathing deeply and slowly, and you feel her drift off to sleep as Er Yin speaks her tale. She's probably heard many of them. “My pretty gem introduced me to the Koshinto ways, but I had been studying her people for a long time already, so I wasn't exactly unfamiliar.”

Yui smiles and her tail curls cutely. “And you're a scholar, so you scolled, right?”

“Learned, Yui-chan.” She takes your mild correction without comment or embarrassment.

Er Yin smiles and runs her free hand through the shimmering white-bronze hair of your herald's hair. “In my land, I'm expected by my caste and heritage to take up the protection of something precious and important. So when I made my way to Japan, and saw what was happening to the Ainu, I made them my charge, the precious thing I would protect. I met Kiku-chan on the mountain of temples, on Hokkaido. She was....not very different than what she is like now, to be honest.”

Kiki-hime giggles and you can feel her muscles ripple along the back of your head – though you do tilt your head forward; your horns are swept back, after all. “Onee-san has always had a temper and been very argumentative.” Not that this surprises you; she must have hated being helpless.

Yui looks confused and then her eyes widen. “You two are sisters?!”

You think back, and realize she's never been exposed to that information. “I rather thought Akari-niji-chan would have mentioned that, really,” you point out to Yui. “Yes, they are.” You remember that her vision isn't like anything human; she sees things more like a kami might, or a spirit might. And that being the case, well, Kiki-hime and Kiku-chan looked nothing at all alike when you were possessing Yui. “If it makes you feel better, they have different fathers.”

“Oh, that's okay then.” You're not quite certain what difference that makes, but you let it slide – for now.

You slip your hand free of Akari, lightly caressing her palm. She moves a little closer to you, as you call to your herald softly. “Yui, come here.” She smiles brightly, her obedience a choice, not a demand you make – and that is very, very important to you – and snuggles up to you....only to be snuggled up you by Akari. Yui wraps her arms around Akari as Akari lays half along her body, and Akari is almost half asleep as she does so.

Er Yin rolls onto her hands and feet, sinuously crawling around the bed the long way so that she can spoon against your wife's back, her arm sliding around the Wood dragonette's waist as she rests one hand on her sister's hair, the other along your horn, gently gripping it. It's a strangely comforting feeling; it occurs to you that dragonettes and dragonnes almost never target one another's horns in combat. It seems almost specifically something done by others.

“I hope no one minds I brought Fuuta-chan here,” you comment softly, more to invite potential dissent than expressing a regret. The responses aren't surprising at all.

“As long as she's really a friend, that's okay by me, aniki,” Yui murmurs softly. “She seems really nice. I want to talk to her more though.” Okay, so Yui-niji-chan has reservations of some sort, but is hopeful. That's good.

“If it is Ryukusa it can't be helped, “ your wife mentions fondly. Her trust in you is total, and you hope you can live up to that.

Er Yin murmurs softly and you feel your wife arch slightly behind you, then melt into the soft, rich voice of your Seer. “I believe she is honest, Ryukusa-sama, and that she will be a boon to us. At the very least, she is not a boon to our enemies.”

“That was what I thought. We should rest well, the next few days – things will be....quite a bit different than they have been.” You're no longer playing the passive game. Things have changed, but you have changed more. Also, you're tired of them setting you up, the fuckers. “I have two more people in mind to bring back with us, and another who wants to be my student, believe it or not.”

“Aniki, Akari already dresses up for you, why would you need another student?”

“Fighting student, Yui-chan, fighting student. She wants me to teach her to fight. Told her I have someone better to teach her, but she's not going to come after anyone, which is good. One of Akari's cousins – no, two of them. Ryuu Gii also.”

“Kanako? You think she will?” Akari sounds dubious; must be because she's half asleep.

“Well, I have the feeling it's going to be all one way or the other with her, and she's on the tipping point. So I have to try.” Kiki-hime's hand strokes your horn slowly, and you relax, kissing both Kiku-chan and Yui one last time, and sighing softly. “Someone has to help them when no one else will, right?” You murmur with your last passing thought being that she is either going to come to your side or die fighting you.

You only hope it's not a premonition.

you wake up surrounded by bodies. Only Yuuhi and Kiki-hime are awake. Yuuhi-chan is outside Er Yin's door – you can hear her breathing. Kiki-hime is straddling your waist, her hands parting your robe and looking down at you with softly gleaming eyes of sky blue.

It's very, very early morning.

Her eyes move up, and she smiles archly, proud of herself, and with good reason. She managed to straddle you without you waking up, which is not an easy task. You would have said it was impossible, but you've been having some unusual things going on lately.

Her hand move down, parting your robes even further, baring your breasts for her to look at. They're not nearly as impressive as hers or Er Yin's, but you like to think you are nicely endowed. Certainly not modestly endowed, to be sure. Her fingers linger on the edges of your robe, sliding down them as you look up at her calm and trusting.

But not stupid.

She is a blaze of light in Fire Eyes, the strength of Wood in growth and resilience. Weirdly it is the lesser Yin of the five elements, only Water being of deeper Yin. That is what makes it the medium of growth and strength through weakness; it rebounds and restores, rather than bends or breaks. She is beautiful, and you can see the life within her as well, nascent, hardly a whisper, but still there. You can also see how her life, her strength, is tied to those around you, and their own strengths feed her and at the same time draw from her.

Ryuu Kiki is the tree that nurtures and supports your family, the warm life that your darkness always seeks and is sustained by, even as you nurture her.

You close your Fire eyes and slowly slip your hand from between Kiku and Akari (how did that happen?), careful not to wake Kiku and to disturb Akari as little as possible. Akari-niji-chan doesn't quite come awake, but she does rise to that awareness on the edge of it; unconscious but most definitely neither helpless nor safe. You tense and Kiki-hime stops moving, holding very still for you, aware that something is wrong and willign to do whatever you need her to do in order to allow you to protect her.

You pause, stoking Akari's hair, caressing her horns, until she falls back into a more normal sleep.

You relax, and that lets Kiki-hime relax. Your hand moves to her belly, caressing, feeling the softness of her skin, the warmth of her body, the flow of Chi and blood through her meridians and her arteries – wait.

Glancing down her lovely, shapely form you look at her; you see nothing unusual, but you can feel her Chi flowing, feel the movement of it through her body, just like you can feel her blood. You can't feel that from the others, only her, but you can definitely feel it in her. The few milliseconds it takes you to experience it is enough; you can come back to the mystery of why and how later. Now, you smile and slide your hand higher.

You relax, just basking in the warmth of your family and their love – and lust, you have to admit it – for you. And each other too, because currently Er Yin is tangled up with Yui-chan, while Kiku-chan is curled up between your spread legs, on top of your tail (so warm!) with her sister's tail now clutched in her hands and between her legs like a favorite stuffed animal.

You remain so for a while, just breathing in their varied scents and perfumes, reveling in the silk (note to self, warn Er Yin about Fuuta-chan's skin), and just feeling loved and protected. It's a strange feeling, a new and wonderful sort of thing, to feel protected by their presence. A whisper through the Void brings your other protector in, and she slips inside with a silence that you would be impressed by, if her tail weren't swishing back and forth.

Rather than sitting seiza, Yuuhi goes to her knees next to the bed and lays her own nodachi along the edge of it, resting her arms on it. In the dark her eyes glow as well, strangely gentle pools of crimson light with slits of darkness within them. She seems perfectly at ease with the array of bodies on the bed, though you are all decent as far as you know. “Aniki; I'm glad you are okay. Kiki-dono was kinda upset at you.”

Smiling and stroking the soft fuchsia hair of your wife, you grin at her. “I've bene forgiven, it seems. Anything to report, Yuuchi?”

Her tail picks up speed and she smiles at your pet name for her. “Nu-uh. Everything is soft and quiet and dark and warm and really really nice. Peta says you'll have to give her playmate a hand. Chisato-san is having trouble with her bosses. Not right away though. But sometime soon.” Her ears lay back. “We'll need their help rilly soon.” Soon can mean a lot of things to an enlightened immortal, but you're definitely putting that on your list after dealing with Enma-Oh.

Yuuhi-chan shakes her head and carefully crawls up onto the bed, picking her way around the bodies with overcautious care, her tongue-tip sticking out between her lips as she tries to manage. She manages to get close enough that you can trace her soft lips and warm cheek. “Nu-uh. But I think the weird slimy things are kinda cool.” The landlord's maintenance crew are definitely slimy, but you're nor really sure about 'cool'. But then, it's Yuuhi, so it really can't be helped.

You place your finger along your lips and kiss it, and then you reach up and place your finger against her lips; she responds by kissing your finger and softly and lovingly as if it was your lips. It sends a shiver down your spine, as a matter of fact. “Thank you, Yuuchi. We can talk more tomorrow.”

“Can we have sex tomorrow too?” It's asked with the bright eyed patient innocence of the mentally impaired. Definitely not what you expected from her.

….you know, typically, this is the kind of situation that you would discuss with just about anyone else before making a decision. The thing is, when you first met her, she was so terribly....distraught when she leaped across the table and hugged you, crying like she'd found you after you'd been lost forever. Even after you had been lost in an alien hell for two hundred years and with the trauma that an eidetic memory retains so well, the way she felt in your arms was even more helpless and fragile and lost than you felt upon your escape and return home.

And you don't think it's just sexual, either. Not with her. It's not like it is with your family. There's something fundamentally different in your feelings for her and about her. Still....the truth is the truth. But better safe than sorry.

“If it were anyone but you, Yuuchi....” You shake your head. Fortunately she seems to understand that you're not actually saying anything to her at the moment. Her point of view might possibly be more fucked up beyond all recognition than Yui's is. “Why do you ask?”

“Because I love you and it would be good for us to have that together.”

….you know, that was possibly both more adorable and creepier than you could have possibly anticipated.

“You are an utterly adorable weirdo, Yuuhi-chan. I love you too; yes, we can make love tom....what do you mean no?” She's shaking her head.

We should just have sex.” The fact that she's speaking in such plain terminology is weird, but the fact that she's so earnest is really kind of disturbing. “I still love you though,” she adds, almost as an afterthought.

“I know you do, and I do love you too. But you mean, tantra, or some Taoist thing, don't you.” She nods her head rapidly. “All right Yuuhi-chan. Though, I would still like to make love with you, you know. You mean a lot to me too.”

Yuuhi-chan blinks, and then starts turning red. Like, really, really red. Inau-kun levels of blushing. Her ears spread wide and her tail almost floofs out completely and sticks straight up. You smile up at her, and quickly prevent her from having a stroke (if an enlightened immortal can even HAVE a stroke!) as she carefully insinuates herself among your family and snuggles close to you. Well, as close as she can get with Yui, Er Yin, Kiku-chan, Akari, and Kiki-hime all together and surrounding you.

Despite the crowded bed she snuggles in a little, and sighs happily, and immediately drifts off to sleep.

And for once, you follow right after.

Kiki would go further and explain that the kami, when not incarnate, exist as potentially realized existences. The act of manifesting removes the potential and replaces it with actualization. Physically embodied kami are always actualized. In addition, mthere are four states of being for any kami, and two of those states have to do with whether or not they are actualized or potentials. The other two have to do with attitude, and Ryukuza has encounter Amaterasu-Omikami in both states now.

Thank you for continuing to run this quest, I'm a tenth of the way through and it's the densest, best paced and most fascinating fluff-and-cuddles quest I've ever laid eyes on.

Er Yin's is the coolest. To think I was worried about her being redundant. I should've gotten the hint after the last three times I immediately grew to love new harem members.

Her intro scene was amazing. Anticlimactic my ass, I caught on to the juju Kiki was calling up in the bath, and was vindicated once it was revealed she didn't know what the fuck she was doing with her wood eyes. Having it come back around in a really tense moment with huge weight behind it is the kind of thing quests are made for.
